Ethiopian and Eritrean: from the personal name Haile which is interpreted as 'my power' in the Ge'ez Amharic or related languages. It often forms part of a Christian name such as Hailemariam and in this case it translates as 'power of'.

Mutual Aim: All Safe Hands on Deck
Current progress: $20,655/$220,000
This is a link to Mutual Aim's newst campaign: All Safe Hands on Deck. A while ago, gfm shut down the fundraiser they hosted there and withheld the $39,000 they had raised for Sudan, Tigray, and the DRC (you may recall their previous campaign from this post). They've set up a new one on Zeffy to help fund their mutual aid projects, including:
1. Supporting other grassroots organizations who work closely with the people of: Congo, Amhara, Cameroon, Sudan, Tigray, and Haiti
2. The first installment of Mutual Aim's village in Chad.
3. Starting and supporting small businesses in Chad for locals and displaced people.
4. Creating and supporting the small businesses for the women and men of Congo in the displacement camps.
5.Breakfast for 400 displaced Congolese children for the period of one month.
6. Building temporary homes and supplying other basic needs for the people of Congo in the displacement camps, to protect them during the incoming rainy season.
7. Local mutual aid requests here in the global West.
8. Administrative fees for the organization to run programs efficiently.
Additional resources can be found in Shaky's (the founder of Mutual Aim) linktree

Donate to Help IDPs
Shared and hosted by tigrayupdate:
“Seeing our people suffering for so long brings tears. We should all contribute whatever little as we celebrate the New Year with hope of the repatriation to their homes.
Since the onset of the Genocidal War in Tigray in November 2020, over 2 million people have been displaced or ethnically cleansed due to the violence. Although some have managed to return to their homes after enduring harsh conditions in IDP camps, hundreds of thousands are still stuck in these camps, unable to go back due to the Governments' failure to implement the Pretoria Agreement.
Nearly four years have passed since our people were forced from their homes, which remain occupied by #Amhara and #Eritrean forces. Let's support those still suffering and work towards a brighter future for them.”
$825 AUD raised of $5,000 goal

HOW THE U.N. HAS FAILED SUDANESE REFUGEES
instagram
On May 1st, a large group of Sudanese refugees fled Olala camp in Ethiopia's Amhara region. Their repeated pleas for essential supplies and protection from armed fighters to both Ethiopian authorities and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees went unanswered. Sudanese content creator Sara (@bsonblast) on Instagram shared that these refugees are now seeking safety in the wilderness and urged people to reconsider donating to the United Nations, citing the ongoing suffering of the refugees.
The conflict between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in Sudan has resulted in one of the world's most severe humanitarian crises and the largest displacement crisis. Since April 15, 2023, estimates suggest between 15,000 and 150,000 Sudanese people have been killed, and nearly 10 million have been displaced, according to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED). The violence has ravaged once-thriving cities, leaving civilians to face atrocities, food shortages, intermittent internet access, and widespread destruction of infrastructure.
This situation raises a critical question: Why has the international community remained silent and failed to provide aid to millions of Sudanese people and advocate for peace?

“We Are Dying Silently” Tigrayans Mark 4 Years Since Genocidal War Began
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Today marks 4 years since the start of the Tigray Genocide. On this day, Ethiopian, Eritrean, Amhara, and other allied forces waged a war against the people of Tigray. As we use this day to mourn and remember victims and survivors of the genocide, we must also use this day re-commit to the people of Tigray. The people of Tigray continue to experience a silent genocide. Since the signing of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement, 2 years ago, Tigray continues to face multiple crises, including a growing humanitarian crisis, occupation, and ethnic cleansing. Our thoughts and hearts are with the countless Tigrayan families still grappling with the physical and emotional toll caused by #4YearsOfTigrayGenocide. Tigrayans have proven time and time again their resilience as they continue to recover from this genocide."
