Interlude and the group fighting in round 2

Now you have won. You suddenly have every scar and blow erased from your skin. You look around and hear the voice again that you can’t describe. “And now the round 1 has ended. Unfortunately for me, some of you players tried to go against me, but I give you the benefit of the doubt. I haven’t introduced myself. People call me M. I don’t know if it’s my real name. I really don’t remember anything. I once was a full person that was cursed to roam the world, without being able to go beyond. I do have two goals I remember: I am the bringer of entertainment, and I am a bringer of death. This place really is the tight combination of both. You are my freak show now that my own freak was taken for me. I just need to make sure now you don’t try to escape.” A woman appears in the middle of the arena in clothes that are almost stereotypical of a fortune teller. She’s south American, with a beautiful straight nose and eyes that seem to know everything you deeply want to know. “I am so sorry.” She points at you and your new opponent, and you are transported into your deepest nightmare for just a few minutes, which almost feel like an eternity. “My fancy little crew here are all my helpers whose soul is in their own little dimension. I won’t mind putting you with my little collection.” You finally have sense on the audience around you. Some of them are real people that have no idea what’s going on. Some though, some people are dressed in old timely clothes, and smiling like someone has forced them to do so. “So, now it’s time for round 2”.

scorpion grass spoilers

hnnnnnnnnn i get nervous when i see people talking about how much they hate it when thing happen inside dreams in stories bc like. A *lot* of what happens in scorpion grass technically takes place inside of a dream (or an altered memory). but. that doesn't make it meaningless and it doesn't mean that none of the events are actually happening, you know?

like. for a somewhat less spoilery example, Amertrine has entered Pat's dream before to try and track down a ghost. When she killed that ghost, it was for real even though it happened in a dream. and the arguement that pat and ametrine had about it in that dream... i mean technically id *didn't* happen in reality. But they were both there for it. they both remember it, and they both still carry a grudge about it. what happened still has *meaning* even if it wasn't "real"

FAHC Gem AU

Yeah...I'm trash. ANYWAY, this is gonna be a little different from the lore of Steven Universe so I'll just pop a background in. I ran out of image space so everyone else still to come.

Background:

Gems can be any gender dependant on status (So it's still a monarchy ruled by the diamond authority). Higher status gems are female-coded, lower status gems are male-coded, however, this is just an average. Some jobs/roles/positions may be switched from the show and the FAHC are only really fighting for Earth because they live there. Pink Diamond isn't shattered and the Crystal Gems don't exist. There is also no human gem hybrids and the FAHC took human names as a way to blend in/a way to be rebellious. Alright, on to the crew!

Era 1 Gems:

Geoff Ramsey: Hematite on the chest

Hematites are created as perfect, obedient soldiers, set to follow orders and example. Geoff was curious about the world around him and stowed away to Earth where he discovered Jack and later Micheal, which drove him to create the crew and fight for Earth to protect his growing family.

Jack Pattillo: Red Jasper on the stomach

Red Jaspers have a role similar to Pearls, they are seen more of a status symbol then an actual gem/person and appear genderless. Jack popped out both with a beard and fat (not a bad thing but it wasn't taken well). They were disliked by their owner and abandoned on Earth where they were found by Geoff. Unfortunately, thier time on homeworld left them with quite a few body confidence issues but they found that having a female form helped with that.

Micheal Jones: Snowflake Obsidian on the back and chest.

Micheal is a permafusion of an Opal and an Obsidian. Opals are created with the ability to see the future at the cost of their ability to see the present. Many have no eyes or are blind. Because of this, every Opal is assigned an Obsidian bodyguard. The two made up Micheal when they fused and eventually fell in love after Opal wanted to see. Unfortunately, they were found out and Obsidian was due to be shattered before they fled to Earth. Now terrified of being apart, they stay fused to protect each other. Micheal wears a visor as they have poor eyesight.

Gavin Free: Chryophase on the nape of the neck

Chryophases are homeworld's diplomats and tend to be uptight, law abiding and polite. Gavin...is not that. What he does share with the other Chryophases is that he's really fucking good at talking and adapting. So when the base he was stationed at on Earth was attacked, he did the smart thing and ran. He lived by himself for a while before meeting OG and Micheal, "conning" them into let him join the crew (he didn't, Geoff just can't say no to Micheal). He chose to go by a masculine name and goes with male pronouns.

Ryan Haywood: Labrodorite on the forehead

Labrodorites are used to fix technology and work with homeworld's computers. Ryan was very good at that until he witnessed a gem being shattered for the first time. Something broke inside him and the next planet his ship stopped on he snuck on to, which happened to be Earth. Fascinated by the idea of death, he did a few "experiments" which lead to him having quite the reputation. This lead to him being hired by Geoff.

Jeremy Dooley: Amertrine on the chest

After emerging on in the Earth Kindergarten as an "underdeveloped runt", Jeremy was abandoned and lived by himself in the Kindergarten for a very long time. He was found by the FAHC (who were still morning Ray at the time, who is corrupted) who basically adopted him immediately.

Lindsey Jones: Carnelian on the stomach

Lindsey was already crazy when she still worked with homeworld. She just found out that she wouldn't get punished for being crazy with the FAHC (meeting a certain fusion didn't help either)

Pat and Amertrine have known each other a good long while. They’re colleagues of sorts, doing their respective jobs brings them into contact more often than you might expect. And they got along okay at first. Pat is Not an exception to the stereotype that private investigators have a weakness for beautiful women. And Ametrine is very pretty in a haunted porcelain doll sort of way. And Ametrine didn’t mind having some backup with Muscle, if things went awry. Things often go awry for her.

They don’t get along anymore, unfortunately.

New Year and the the theme continues: Happy New Year !! Wishing all a happy, healthy, creative year ahead! I am back at it again - sketching simultaneously in my 2021(retroactive) and 2022 Smithsonian Engagement Calendar as a continuation of my 2020 theme of ‘Sketching the Pandemic Year!’ I haven’t come up with any other project to keep me ‘engaged’ and had these two beautiful books on hand. So I continue to record something for each week while still mulling over other ideas ! This way I will have at least 106 sketches done this year :) “The ‘Dyber Amertrine’ photographed in the 2021 Smithsonian Engagement Calendar is a quartz variety mined in Anahi Mine, Bolivia, that is part amethyst and part citrine, accounting for the unique purple and yellow orange color combination seen in theses gems. Although faceted and carved by hand, the ‘Dyber Ametrine’ also represents the state-of-the-art cutting techniques used by gem artist Michael Dyber , including ‘Dyberotic Optic Dishes’ that create optical illusions.” The fading, drying hydrangea is from our garden photographed last December. It mirrored the colors and beauty of the ametrine and was the motivation for me to continue sketch-journaling in these Engagement calendars! heard on my daily walk last week using the Merlin Bird App from Cornell Ornithology Lab. Two days later I saw three of them again in the same area circling above. Using bird guides and my own blurry photographs I sketched it in watercolor. The explanation in the 2022 Smithsonian Engagement Calendar about the dove photographed on that page : ‘Artis Pablo Cano created this card for Helen Kohen, a noted art historian and critic, to thank her for a gift she had given him and to tell her how he was using it.
