I get the idea, but I still think it’s kind of messed up to keep him stuffed instead of giving him a proper burial!🦅

A 294 A.D 10-Aurei Gold Medallion of Roman Emperor Diocletian
A unique gold 10-aurei medallion of Roman emperor Diocletian sold for $2.3 million in Classical Numismatic Group’s Jan. 10 and 11 auction.
The medallion measures 38 millimeters across and weighs 53.65 grams, or about the same diameter as an American Eagle silver bullion coin, but nearly twice as heavy.
According to CNG, “This magnificent medallion of Diocletian ranks among the largest denomination Roman Imperial gold medallions in existence and is a masterpiece of late classical portraiture. A gold multiple of this size and artistry, termed a denio in numismatic circles, represented vast wealth at the time of issue and must have been created for a special occasion.”
Gaius Valerius Diocletianus instituted many reforms, including in 294 the implementation of a new system of coinage. The year 294 also marked the 10th anniversary (decennalia) of Diocletian’s reign and the enlargement of the ruling class.
As part of the coinage change, to accommodate the flood of new coinage, new mints opened, including one at Aquileia, where this medallion was struck.
It is graded Choice About Uncirculated by Numismatic Guaranty Co., which assigned it a 5/5 for strike and surface.
“Here, then, is the historical context for the striking of this impressive denio, no doubt intended as a handout to a military officer of high rank,”.
At least four other 10-aurei medallions of Diocletian alone are recorded, all in museum collections. This includes two other examples of the same type and similar weight, but struck at the Alexandria mint.
This was the only denio offered at public auction since 1922, according to the firm.
Diocletian (242/245 – 311/312), nicknamed "Jovius", was Roman emperor from 284 until his abdication in 305. He was born Diocles to a family of low status in the Roman province of Dalmatia. Diocles rose through the ranks of the military early in his career, eventually becoming a cavalry commander for the army of Emperor Carus. After the deaths of Carus and his son Numerian on a campaign in Persia, Diocles was proclaimed emperor by the troops, taking the name Diocletianus. The title was also claimed by Carus's surviving son, Carinus, but Diocletian defeated him in the Battle of the Margus.
Weakened by illness, Diocletian left the imperial office on 1 May 305, becoming the first Roman emperor to abdicate the position voluntarily. He lived out his retirement in his palace on the Dalmatian coast, tending to his vegetable gardens. His palace eventually became the core of the modern-day city of Split in Croatia.

Nancy, I have a history related question so this 1 $ silver coin, what's the story behind it, do they still do its production ? Not to mention I have one though.😊
LOL, you had no way of knowing this, but, my father was a coin collector so I have a soft spot for coins.
Yes, the U.S. Mint still mints silver dollar coins ("The American Eagle" coin). However, they are not circulated like regular coins, and are only for collectors. They are 90% silver, so are worth far more than the one dollar face value.
From a collector's position, though, the coins worth far more money are the coins from the time when they were actually circulated for currency. So, say, the nineteenth century coins. The new ones are more a cheaper way to buy silver bullion for investment, because you don't have to buy a full silver ingot.
On Friday I was at an antiques store and as I was checking out I looked over the coins they had in the case there at the register. There was a 1798 penny that was marked at $480. This one got me because it's just interesting to think that it was minted in the last year of George Washington's life, and could have passed through his hands for all we know. That's what I find interesting in old coins - wondering where all they have been. (For the record, I own a pair of earrings made from 2,000 year old Roman coins. I always start daydreaming about ancient times when I put them on.)

man so when my brothers and I were really young my parents bought my great grandmother’s house and she lived with us for several years
she was born in 1912
I don’t really remember interacting with her a ton, she kind of kept to herself, we’d hang out in her bedroom sometimes to watch I Love Lucy with her and she was deaf so she didn’t bother with the volume and just had subtitles on. Because she was deaf it was somewhat difficult to communicate with her.
She was diabetic so she had a lot of sugar-free hard candies
Anyway I bring her up because over the course of my single-digit childhood she would produce gifts for me and my brothers for birthdays and so on that wound up being really strangely influential
Like she would buy us coins, I still have a 1997 1 ounce American Eagle silver coin she gave my elder brother, and I have an Irish penny from 1922 that she gave me, all from Littleton Coin Co. out in Colorado. I still like coins and basically everything I know about them is, I have realized in my adulthood, a product of my great-grandmother’s interest in them
She also apropos of nothing at all ordered a starter set of Aircraft of the World that she must have seen on the television or something that became the foundation of everything I know about airplanes. Airplanes have been a lifelong interest of mine, I think in large part because of that set
Possibly the main thing, I remember rather clearly, she gave me a copy of Grimm’s Fairy Tales for my tenth birthday that at the time I thought was a very silly gift. But now fairy tales are the foundation of my book collection
I was named after her husband, who died the year before I was born. My parents have a photo of the two of them in their house and they look like a quintessential Edwardian couple even though she was born after the Edwardian era and photo must have been taken in the 1930s
man, great grandma Violet, I hardly knew
so strange the influences your family members have on you
