So what do you think keeps Carol going? What’s her motivation at this point?
Melissa Mcbride: "I think Carol’s motivation is love. And when I was watching this episode, love and life, all of the things that her subconscious was telling her after Alpha kept asking her what is it that she wants. What do you want? She said she wants to be alone. She answers herself, saying no that’s not it. And whether or not Carol knows what she wants or not, or if she is afraid to even say it because she may or may not be able to manifest it because everything she tries to do, Alpha reminds her: No matter what you do you lose people. Is it worth going forward?
And the things that pull her back out, the thing that gives her the impetus to hold her breath and free herself from under this pile of stuff in this metaphorical pile of stuff to fight for her life, was love. Not wanting to lose Daryl. She’s going to go back. She doesn’t want to be alone, she’s going to go back and help the people that she loves."

Sometimes logic is the most, I don’t know, logical thing to apply to a situation.
Because Daryl Dixon has shown every*damn*body who his number one priority is this season.
He’s dropped wholeass conversations and pretended like people in front of him were all but invisible to meet Carol Peletier halfway on a dock when her ship come in and sweep her up in his arms and off her feet in the most exuberant and happily relieved hugs ever and essentially ignored the rest of the people loitering around because his vision narrowed strictly to her.
Right before that, he blew off discussions and scouting trips to investigate whether the latest big bad threatening the communities’ safety had returned in favor of waiting for her ship to come in and he continued to blow the whole situation off to get Carol alone for some quality just Carol and Daryl time.
Knowing the Whisperers were still out there, he still daydreamed of escaping to somewhere new and leaving everybody behind—everybody except Carol because she’s the only person he can envision actually escaping for and with.
The man made her a friendship bracelet and flirted and blushed in her presence like an awkward dork with a crush.
He expressly told Carol he needed her to stay.
He bodily restrained her from taking a second shot at Alpha when the bald baddie taunted her and he looked past any misgivings he might have had to tell her he believed her about the Whisperers nobody else had seen but Carol.
Before that, he came running when Carol screamed his name in that old school and fat chance convincing me he didn’t help carry her injured ass all the way to the same infirmary that he waited outside of like a worried husband.
He’s made her dinner trays with flowers, looking out for her physical well-being when she’s been lost in her ongoing grief and he felt powerless to help with it.
His thoughts, this season, have rarely strayed from her and his eyes have been open and watching out for her because he wants to be her safety net while she’s been struggling so very much with Henry’s loss and her consuming need for vengeance. I mean, granted. Daryl Dixon is no fuss, no muss pretty much 24/7, but have y’all ever seen a man get his ass ready that quick to follow a woman without some kind of promised benefit to him? Yeah. Naw.
He did his version of getting the Dixon flirt on again when they were tossing acorns at a can—because they be cutely competitive af.
Daryl Dixon when teased by Carol Peletier about whether his budding friendship with a sweet and seemingly perfect fellow community member could be more? Deadass told her with utmost seriousness and sincerity that it wasn’t like that—not at all.
And then proceeded to pocket the double capper acorn Carol gave him as a good luck charm right over his heart and later gaze at it longingly in the privacy of his own room.

Okay, bare with me for a moment guys:
I know the title of the episode is based on what Alpha told Carol as she was fixing to die... but what if it’s also a code? Like it’s code for Caryl setting sail and the other ship (no offense) is dead?
They mentioned they were going to dive into Daryl’s love life, so maybe the “it’s not like that” and the “girlfriend” “gal pal” “look at the flowers” “Daryl might be next” are all connected and it’s been hinted at all season?
The way Daryl sighs when Negan says she’s not coming. The way he looks down when Negan mentions girlfriend like “oh it’s obvious?”
The look on his face at the caves, he’s upset with her for what happened, plus he’s even more upset she put herself in harms way.
Eugene talking about how dreams sometimes convey what we don’t want to say in the real world, in the exact same episode where Caryl has 2 dreams of Daryl.
This season has had TONS and I mean TONS of Caryl centered moments that possibly are hinting at our ship becoming official (to the nay sayers).

i dont think she truely believe in her heart of hearts that daryl is in love with connie..remember carol knows him as well as she knows herself..she has been messed up ..yes..and has been thinking she will die..not living through the death of Alpha...and that daryl would need someone and she saw a connection with Connie..a friendship..yes..and was pushing him there..hoping to make it stronger so he wouldnt be alone when she died..however i never ever truely believed Carol believed Darol is in love with Connie. She knows him.
10x14 what Carol wants
SpangledCyborg said: Okay, can someone help me with this part? I’m copying and pasting from the transcript. I’m still not 100% clear on the meaning of this:
“Being out on your own… you’ve tried it before. They always pull you back. Always wanting more. Love. Motherhood. Death. But they don’t know what you truly want.”
So is Carol’s inner Alpha voice saying that they’re pulling her back because SHE wants these things or they do? I know she responded to this with “I want to be alone”, but I wasn’t too clear on the rest of it. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Me: I think at the time Carol wants to die but then I think it’s she doesn’t want to lose people/daryl..or lose time. ? At the end with alpha, alpha was like her negative thoughts… Threatening her to look at the flowers. Until carol found a reason to live… Protect Daryl /loved ones. /////////////////////////// @nana That was an ironic moment because I read somewhere it was what Carol wanted (death) but as soon as Alpha said “death,” Carol turned and killed the walker about to kill her. I also read death was what she truly wanted… but I dont think that is the case. I think death is a release because she isn’t getting what she wants because she is too afraid to go for it. That was the whole inner struggle… then she realizes it isn’t death but to live and have a life with Daryl… though not necessarily as romantic because she thinks he wants Connie. —————————————————- I really like these thoughts. I can’t wait for the Caryl talk.

10x14 what Carol/Daryl wants 2 💝
“Caryl1114 said: ↑ Carol fought a lot of personal demons in this episode. Alpha “reincarnated” acted as her voice of self doubt and self degradation. Another thing that came out of Carols subconscious was 1. Ed was right she wasn’t worth anything (paraphrasing) 2.Everyone was mad at her especially Daryl was mad at her for what she did to Connie and 3. that she had lost everyone she cared about and if she goes back she might lose Daryl too.” ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////@KdK13 I absolutely loved that scene. Carol’s demons all coming for her at once (how heartbreaking was it when “Alpha” was doing the Lizzie-impersonation, with the “I’m sorry, please don’t be mad”?), still trying to convince herself that Daryl feels something more for Connie, still trying to convince herself that everyone else would be better off without her. But when her own subconscious puts Daryl in danger, that’s when she makes her final decision. That’s when she fights to live. “It’s never too late.” And that’s when “Alpha” disappears. Carol was asking herself over & over “what do you want?” - she tries desperately, more than once, to reply with “I want to be alone”, but she knows that’s not true. She wants to be home with Daryl. She needs him. She needs him to be safe and she needs him like she needs air. She may not want to, but she needs him. And he’s right there at the gate waiting for her. GAH, how much do I love that he was at that gate?? “Caryl1114 said: ↑ Daryl did wait with Negan for Carol because Negan said he didn’t think she was coming back. He also made a second reference of “gal pal”. When Carol got back to Alexandria she looked like she had been through the ringer, Daryl opened the gate and they did look forlorn at each other but nothing was said. In my opinion, he didn’t look mad but there was some sorrow for her. At this point he knows she let out Negan to kill Alpha and even Daryl said it too him long enough. It was clearly just an awkward moment between them but it certainly more than “he opened the gate but didn’t say anything to her” moment.” “ ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////@KdK13 There was no need for words in that scene, it was beautifully played. Daryl sat helpless in that field for how many hours?, waiting with Negan for Carol to come back. Nothing productive came from him sitting on his butt, waiting for Carol. When he realized she wasn’t coming back to that spot, he went back to ASZ to wait, hoping she’d choose to come home to him. He sat at that gate and he waited. And she came home to him. Norman mentioned that Daryl & Carol have a "heart to heart” coming soon. BRING IT. ETA: I love the angle of this particular shot. Daryl opens a hole in the fence - the metaphorical wall between them? - and waits. He doesn’t move toward her, ask her if she’s ok, doesn’t speak at all - he just waits. He knows (and he’s always known), he has to let Carol bust through that wall & come to him, and she does.

Carol’s brain is awfully focused on Daryl:
Mocks her apology to Daryl and asking him to please not hate her
Tells her he’s not coming to save her, especially after what she “did” to connie
Doesn’t want to go back (and love Daryl) because what if she does and then she actually loses Daryl, because her track record is not great
It’s like she’s trying to purposefully avoid that topic and her mind just keeps going there.
There is a whole lot tangled up in her grief and pain over her losses, and her feelings for Daryl, and it is a very tangled web indeed.

I'm confused b/c I haven't watched the last few episodes leading up to episode 14. Is it correct that Daryl isn't aware of Magna miraculously returning the group without C*nnie? If so, he still thinks they/she are still in great danger? Why didn't Daryl grill Negan about their/her possible whereabouts? Instead, he sat on a log all fucking night long with his archenemy, looking forlorn and pining for Carol to come back to the pikes? Instead of looking for Magna/C*nnie? Is this correct?
This is correct. Daryl was already out at the cabin where Lydia was stashed when magana and the others arrived at the house. Jerry was surprised and happy to see Magna. So as far as I know, Daryl still thinks they are missing.

who would have thought negan would become the biggest caryl shipper since glenn and rick…
YOUR GIRLFRIEND
YOUR GAL PAL
don’t leave, WHAT ABOUT CAROL?
i’m living for this, but let me offer you a bowl of reality, sorry, he simply means a girl that’s a friend, a friend who happens to be a girl, PLATONICALLY, a girl whose story is intertwined with daryl’s, a girl daryl can’t stop worrying about, a girl he sits down to wait for her to make the decision to come home disregarding everything else, a girl he would never hate, a girl he truly loves unconditionally…
SORRY, it’s really like that, fuck platonic, A GIRLFRIEND !!!
Thank you, Negan!!!
