Father Christmas Is Back (2021)

This is more adult than a lot of other Christmas movies with a rating of PG-13, so I would caution watching with young children.

Caroline Christmas-Hope (Nathalie Cox) and her husband Peter Hope (Kris Marshall) are hosting Caroline's family for Christmas at their manor in the English countryside with their children Daisey (Amelie Prescott) and Henry (Oliver Smith). Caroline has invited her mother Elizabeth Christmas (Caroline Quentin) and her uncle John Christmas (John Cleese). Also arriving is her fashionista sister Joanna Christmas (Elizabeth Hurley) and her most recent boyfriend Felix (Ray Fearon), her sister Paulina Christmas (Naomi Frederick) who is working on her dissertation about the musical genius of The Beatles, and the youngest sister Vicky Christmas (Talulah Riley) who has been couch-surfing across America for some months. We find out pretty quickly that the Christmas sisters have a dysfunctional relationship with each other and Caroline has been trying to have the perfect Christmas every year since the year their father left on Christmas when they were kids.

Surprise, surprise, when Vicky was couch-surfing, she ran into their father in Florida and invited him back for Christmas, so James Christmas (Kelsey Grammer) shows up with his girlfriend Jackie (April Bowlby). Everybody has strong reactions to this, but nobody is more directly rude to James than his older brother John. The Christmas sisters mostly fight with each other. Vicky and Joanna probably fight the most, but everyone regularly jabs at Caroline for being too uptight and having a bad sex life with her husband. Peter and Felix are so chill about the chaos that they have to be wildly in love to deal with it, because I sure wouldn't. Also Jackie is an American nightmare and seems like she has no idea when she's being ridiculous, like a true American. They muddle through various Christmas events with each other, warts and all, until the shit really hits the fan Christmas morning.

This movie is clearly meant for adults, and it's very fun. Not super raunchy, just enough to keep things interesting. There's not a ton of background music, but there are some "live" performances throughout. It's a very sweet train wreck to watch, and I would watch it again, but I don't know that I would choose it again. Overall, 3.5 stars.

BACKSTORY:

I was born in Lyon as the eldest of triplets, the children of British traveller and writer Robert Allard and French model and photographer Élisabeth Tessier.

Less than a year after we were born our father was offered the chance to host a travel programme called The Strider for the BBC. Together with our mother they decided to take me and my siblings on those journeys.

Since then, we have spent more time on the road than in our home in France. Together, we have explored Australia and Northern Europe, both Americas, and a good part of Africa.

Despite the unusual conditions, our parents took great care of our education and development. I had private tuitions, practised ballet and singing, learned to play a few instruments. During those travels, I aslo learnt about the culture and traditions of the countries we visited and learnt a couple of languages.

We have settled in the USA for a few years where my siblings and I finished high school. It was then that I met my best friends to this day; Judy and Kayleigh. I later got into Harvard, where I studied psychology and linguistics.

I got my first role - Gertie in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial - at the age of six; I went to the audition out of curiosity. Later I also played the young Alia Atreides in Dune, but I didn't tie my future to acting. My love for it was born in the high school drama club. My return in front of the cameras was the 1990 film Millie, but it was with the role of Lex Murphy in Jurassic Park, which I got at the age of seventeen, that I was truly noticed. Other productions followed and with them came increasing success and popularity.

At the beginning of the university, I began to take interest in music - my first album, The Woman Who Love Too Much, was released in 1994 and it quickly became clear that I was as talented an actress as I was a singer.

At age of twenty I move alone to cottage house near Zurich.

Amelie was born with a twin sister Emelie in the small town of Liverpool in the UK. Though once the twins hit the age they found themselves often left alone and to fend for themselves as their parents quit raising them. 

With so much freedom and the only house rule being the two went to school, the twins lived how they wanted. The twins were very close making rules for just them such as if a guy confesses to the wrong twin, he never liked them in the first place. 

As the two grew older, they started getting noticed by boys. Amelie choosing to date older. Her first boyfriend being 4 years older, their parents really didn’t care who spent the night, how old their friends were as long as they were happy. Due to the loose lifestyle and the freedom giving to them, they were free to do whatever they wanted. At the age of 11, Amelie had gotten pregnant. Once she told her boyfriend, he ended their relationship finding himself too young to be a dad. Of course their parents weren’t happy and made it a habit to cut back the freedom the girls had. 

At 12, Amelie had given birth to a son, Ethan. She had voiced her opinion on wanting to be a mom and raise him. With help of her parents, Amelie was able to go to school and be a mom. At 16, Amelie put Ethan in Primary School and got a job after school. Once the two graduated Amelie decided to pack Ethan up and move to America where she got a scholarship to UCF to peruse her career in art. 

While in college, she lived in her own apartment with her son. She would go to classes at night and work while Ethan was in school. Amelie also worked on becoming a US citizen and after 2 years achieved her goal. After graduating early at 22, she became a tattoo artist and moved to Georgia. While her family is still in the UK and away from her twin, they still talk and often take turns visiting each other.

care to share your headcannons & fc's for kacie?

Well, of course! I care a lot haha. I actually almost played Kacie with a Victoria Justice fc. I can also see Cindy Kimberly, Kathryn Prescott, Willa Holland, Keke Palmer, Madison Beer, or Gabriella Wilde!

She’s a hot mess right now. I think the idea of commitment might have really scared her, which is what lead her to cheat on Henry. She only realized what she wanted after it was a bit too late.

That’s kind of why her head’s a mess – she “lucked out” that Henry got amnesia and couldn’t remember that they’d broken up or why. She’s been given a second chance and she’s taking advantage of it.

Personally, I find Kacie to be a bit lost. She has probably had certain commitment issues in the past and this probably isn’t the first mistake she’s ever made. It probably won’t be the last. But it’s also the first second chance she’s ever gotten.

Kacie probably isn’t extremely popular, but also isn’t unpopular. She’s a senior, after all, and she’s dating a famous author and best friends with the captain of the dance team. But Kacie is only known by association. Being “Amelie’s friend” or “Henry’s girl” has probably taken a toll on her.

I have a headcanon that she’s a middle child – her primary motivations are to receive love and attention. She probably hasn’t figured out what she’s really good at or what she wants to do in her life, whereas all the people around her seem to have it together. I feel like this stresses her out and motivates her to do things that are sometimes immoral.

Kacie’s family is probably large? I imagine she has other legacies to live up to, including Henry’s. She just gets a lot of pressure and she’s doing her best not to crack.

These are just personal headcanons and ideas for the direction you could take her character, the skeletons are bare for a reason. So, don’t feel tied down by any of these, because you could change anything listed here. I hope I helped!
