Rippling Reflections: Side Story
Amelia glanced around the inside of Urabrask's room, tapping the doorframe with her fingers,
"Mistress Amelia, may i be of assistance?" Watched asked.
"Hi Watcher. Can you tell me where my boyfriend is?"
"Atrium. Some of the other reptilian assistants have shared with him... the art of sun bathing."
"... how long has been basking?"
"About twenty minutes."
"Thank you."
*****
Urabrask lay sprawled out on his stomach, a towel wrapped around his lower half. The rock the viashino were using was okay, but the warm grass he now dozed in gave him just enough cushion to be perfect.
The sunlight above shone down through the clear glass skylights, allowing all manner of flora to grow; several of the planeswalkers and Spark Givers used this place if they were connected to nature. He use it because it was the quietest place on Sanctuary where the sun could warm his coppery red scales. He opened his eyes, as someone crept up behind him, silent paws on a light frame. The wind picked up and drew Amelia's scent across his nose, moments before she pounced on him.
He groaned as she rolled him over and curled up on his chest,
"Amy," he said, "i was almost asleep."
"I know," she whispered, purring softly, "but I do take a page from my cousins: find the best beam of sunlight and lay there to bask."
Urabrask chuckled as she rubbed her partially clothed body against his; they called it a 'bathing suit'. He had one on too, beneath the towel.
"Oh my... a speedo? Really?"
"Have you tried getting a tail to behave with board shorts?" He asked.
She nuzzled beneath his chin, and lapped at his jaw lazily; he took the hint and turned his head to kiss her. She smiled,
"You really didn't know reptiles did this?"
"New to being a reptile, remember?" He said.
He wrapped his tail around hers and her purring grew louder;
"Well... not that you know, next time you want to do this and would like some company, i'm always available." she whispered.
He yawned and pulled her closer, "I'll keep that in mind."

Fic: Frozen Ash
Fandom: The Heartstrikers
Character: Svena the White Witch
Also on: Dreamwidth, AO3, FFN.
Summary: Svena mourns, and plots vengeance. Set after No Good Dragon Goes Unpunished and before Last Dragon Standing.
Deep in her mothers' glacial fortress in Siberia, Svena the White Witch plotted.
She plotted for the survival of her clan, her ten surviving sisters and five unhatched eggs, in the face of Algonquin’s looming threat. She plotted vengeance against that same enemy—true, Algonquin seemed invincible now, but Svena’s daughter would be a seer, and perhaps a seer could make even the Lady of the Lakes pay in blood for the Three Sisters’ deaths.
Mostly, she plotted against Brohomir, Great Seer of the Heartstrikers, for the death of his sister and her enemy. Amelia the Planeswalker, Svena’s last and greatest rival, who should have died in battle against her, not been struck down by the one dragon she’d trusted.
It galled her all the more because she’d played into the seer’s hands. Amelia had persuaded her to help with an ill-advised bit of magical experimentation, dividing Amelia’s vast flame in half and placing half—for safekeeping, the Planeswalker had claimed—within a mortal mage. A mortal who wasn’t even hers, either of theirs, but who served Amelia’s weakling of a youngest brother. A mortal who’d been dead days later, before Amelia herself, turning that protection into a greater weakness, draining Amelia until she’d been as vulnerable as an old and powerful dragon could be.
Had she refused to help Amelia in her foolishness, Svena was certain that her rival would still be alive. There was no way that the second greatest dragon mage could have met such an ignominious death if she’d been at full strength; even Brohomir was no match for the Planeswalker, either as a mage or as a fighter. Had been no match for her.
Svena swore that she would make him pay for using her. She and her daughter would turn all his plans against him, for that. And they'd make his life a misery, because he'd taken Amelia from her.
Rage made a fine distraction from her grief.
My best and greatest enemy...

So, since I just put my bread in the oven and will be here for a while, everyone should tell me which fictional character - ASOIAF or otherwise, don’t care - you would most like to go for a night out with.

Concerns about my fanwalker Amelia
If I want my fan character to interact with Nicol Bolas (my fave MTG character) in ANY way without perishing horribly like a cockroach beneath a boot, I have no choice but to make her overpowered. I hope, I PRAY this does NOT make her a Mary Sue.
Explanation of her character below cut:
She was found wandering Innistrad in the wake of Emrakul's sealing, completely amnesiac, but decided to pick the name Amelia. Her clothes are disheveled and her hair is scruffy, but that's as far as I've gone with describing her.
She's a probe sent down by a bored Emrakul to learn about this tiny new world, but that doesn't make her a threat, or even a concern. It's more like if Dory from Finding Nemo became a human woman with the ability to planeswalk. She has no idea of her true nature, though the name Amelia is close to 'Emeria' from Zendikar. Happily oblivious to danger, her powers consist of 'nobody thought of trying to use X kind of mana that way before' and her ending up saying "If I'd known that was supposed to be impossible, I wouldn't have tried it!"
As 'A Low Blow on Amonkhet' and 'Tripping Balls on Ravnica' show, she detests violence. Instead, she aims for her target's ego in an embarrassing yet ultimately harmless manner.
She latched on to the Gatewatch as soon as they found her, and they don't know whether she's an idiot savant or just an idiot.

Michal’s Updated Fanwalker Quick Guide
So it’s been a long time since I updated my list of fanwalkers, and considering I’ve both expanded and condensed the list since last time I figured it was due time. So without further delay:
Zuzka - R/G female goblin from Ravnica. Animist whose magic revolves around channeling animal spirits. Member of the Gruul Clans, although not one of the ones who followed Domri Rade. Her spark ignited when she was young and she’s been a planeswalker for slightly more than a decade.
Spiros Dimitirou - G male human from Theros. He possesses an innate magical ability that allows him to increase his strength and endurance as well as heal his wounds as long as he’s in physical contact with the ground. One of my younger planeswalkers at around 18, he hasn’t been a planeswalker for very long and is still trying to figure out his place in the Multiverse.
Ganzorig Thundershield - R/W male orc from Tarkir. Uses divinely infused thunder and lightning magic as his main specialty. A former Kolaghan berserker whose first planeswalk sent him to Ravnica where he wound up joining the Boros Legion and was transformed into a honorable knight.
Marta (and Ada) Baumhauer - W/U female human (and geist) from Innistrad. Uses magic to commune with ghosts and channel ghostly powers. Marta is a cathar and Ada is the geist of her twin sister who died when they were young. Ada was possessing Marta to protect her from Emrakul’s influence during the Battle of Thraben when Marta’s spark ignited, bonding the essence of the two sisters and allowing Ada to tag along when Marta planeswalks.
Resetyu - R female khenra from Amonkhet. Uses sand magic. Her spark ignited several years ago (before the Hour of Devastation) when her twin sacrificed his life to protect her during the Trial of Ambition.
Granny Ygg - G/W/U female treefolk from Lorwyn. More formal name is Grandmother Yggdrasil. Former oldwalker. Has gathered a lot of wisdom and knowledge over her very long life, and can use many types of magic. Has numerous communities she’s adopted around the Multiverse that she protects and nurtures. Also know as The Witch Tree.
Yashagoro - U/B male human from Kamigawa. A trained ninja who uses illusions and other ninja magic. Constantly strives to become as close to the “perfect shinobi” as he can be. Morally grey, he sells his services across the Multiverse not because he cares about the money but because he wants to test himself. Partner of Apurva.
Apurva - B/R non-binary Aetherborn from Kaladesh. Uses emotion magic. A vampiric Aetherborn, they were draining a potential planeswalker’s life when they somehow drained the planeswalker’s Spark as it ignited and became a planeswalker themself. Travels the Multiverse for the sake of experiencing as many sensations as possible, every trip through the Blind Eternities infusing then with aether and extending their life. Partner of Yashagoro.
Gwendolyn - G/U/R female human from Dominaria. Uses “legend lore” magic to channel the power of legendary figures from throughout the Multiverse. At its most powerful, able to summon echoes of these figures. Transgender. Part historian, part bard she researches history so she can retell it.
Miya - R/W female human (Auriok) from Mirrodin. Uses steelshaping to rapidly conjure weapons. Spark ignited during the Phyrexian Invasion. Deeply traumatized, she can’t return home. Instead wanders the planes trying to be a Hero of Justice.
Oriana - B female human from Fiora. Uses umbramancy (shadow magic.) An orphan who grew up on the streets before becoming an infamous assassin. A botched job ignited her Spark and sent her to Kylem, where she’s become a regular in Valor’s Reach. Primarily motivated by a desire for fame and glory, she has a soft spot for fellow outcasts.
Meztli - U female merfolk from Ixalan. Hydromancer. Transgender, was able to use the fish part of her biology to naturally transition. Her Spark ignited from the feelings of gender euphoria the first time she saw her more feminine reflection.
Doruk - W/B/G male human from Tarkir. Uses soul magic that allows him to interact directly with the souls of living creatures and inanimate objects. Former Dromoka clan member, his Spark ignited when his family was destroyed because they secretly kept the Azban practice of spirit summoning and ancestor worship alive. 75 years old, although he was born pre-Mending his Spark didn’t ignite until after the Mending. Spent the last decade stranded on Ixalan as the captain of his own pirate crew.
Amelia Stormwatcher - R/U female siren from Ixalan. Pirate who uses storm magic. Loves exploration. Has a butch orc girlfriend back home on Ixalan. Loves to bring her souvenirs.
Spring-Tail - G/W female kitsune from Kamigawa. A cleric who uses nature magic by communing with nature spirits. Traveling healer who seeks to help others, treating their mental and emotional wounds just as readily as their physical ones.
Kalpana - W female dwarf from Kaladesh. Her restoration magic can repair non-living objects with a touch. Loves to tinker.
Lord Anskrieg - W/U/B male human from unknown home plane. Former oldwalker. Uses many types of magic, but primarily relies on law magic, necromancy and artifice. Self-proclaimed tyrant who believes only he has the will to bring order to the chaotic Multiverse. When the Mending happened and he began to age, he devised a plan to persevere his existence using a combination of healing magic and necromancy as well as replacing certain parts of his body with etherium. This has caused him to persist in a strange state between life and undeath that allows him to keep his Spark but maintain a twisted immortality. This has earned him the nickname “The Living Litch”
Eckhart Glöckner - W/B male human from Innistrad. Can use divine and demonic magic in equal measure. One of Anskrieg’s lieutenants. A Skirsdag cultist who had infiltrated the Church of Avacyn as a cathar. Unflinchingly loyal to Anskrieg.
Vorona - U/B female human from Vryn. A necromancer who combines multiple types of necromancy to create powerful custom zombies. One of Anskrieg’s lieutenants. Her ultimate goal is to learn how to retain her Spark in undeath and become a true Litch planeswalker.
Thutmose - W/U male human from Amonkhet. Uses law magic. One of Anskrieg’s lieutenants. Originally a vizier in charge of ordering mummies about their daily tasks, his Spark ignited during the Hour of Devastation as his orderly life fell apart. He sees Anskrieg as being capable of creating the order and structure he craves.
Daichiyama - B/R male ogre from Kamigawa. Uses chaos magic. A follower of an oni of destruction and entropy, he cares for nothing but sowing chaos. Occasionally works for Anskrieg, but just as likely to be an independent agent.

Original Timeline
On Dominaria/the Material Plane/Midgard, a species called the Thran/Jotunn/Engineers studied elemental magick. There were no differentiation of mana colors at that time; all magick was one and the same. Already by this point in the timeline concepts of good and evil are invalid; the Thran performed very many great and terrible works, and the Engineers seeded life on very many worlds across the galaxy.
A sickness called Phyresis spread throughout the Thran nation. Many people grew sick and died. A mage named Yawgmoth worked towards a cure but wound up becoming corrupted and propagated it instead. The Thran sealed Yawgmoth in an artifical world, where he festered for a very long time.
Far away, the planeswalker Serra/Isis created Serra's Realm, a realm of perfect light. And for awhile, it was good.
The planeswalker Urza/Ugin/Osiris/Orion assaulted Phyrexia, and was strictly beaten. The atmosphere of Phyrexia was absurdly toxic. Urza, reeling, fell from the plane and through the space between worlds, eventually landing in Serra’s Realm. Serra nursed him back to health for five years. He brought concentrated darkness, manifested as a sentient black oil, to a plane that had until that time known only light. The Phyrexians, pursuing Urza, came to Serra’s Realm and utterly mutilated an entire plane of angels. Facing a war he could not win, and not wanting to cede Serra's Realm to the Phyrexians, Urza collapsed the world into a powerstone.
Kerrigan, Terran ghost 24601, was betrayed by Osiris and left behind on the world of Mar Sara/Serra's Realm, where she was kidnapped by Zerg and mutated into Hela, the Queen of Blades. Later, she was decapitated by Jim/Bill/The Man In Black and her head was placed on an artificial body; Bill went on to commit a multitude of atrocities while wearing her face. Captain Marvel is the result. Note that the Captain Marvel in the film Captain Marvel is actually the head of Serra/Kaya, Ghost Assassin/Kerrigan on a mechanical body, while the Captain Marvel in the Avengers: Endgame trailers/Kaya, Orzhov Usurper is Adam wearing her face.
In Chrono Trigger, circa 12,000 BCE, the world was stratified between magick users and the earth-dwellers. Schala/Ninki, Janus/Enki, Queen Zeal, the missing King Zeal/Mammon, the Mammon Machine; interventions by time travelers of the middle era would result in the destruction of the Mammon Machine/Tolarian time machine/amit, which hurled all present into remote corners of time.
Schala was devoured in the amit. Janus was sent into the modern era (2018) as Elon, who traveled back to Zeal to (unsuccessfully) alter the destruction of the Mammon Machine and the ensuing Time Crash.
Schala/Ninki/Serra survived and eventually went on to write a book about why letting Janus persuade her was the worst decision she'd ever made, and also described in detail Janus's death: they had purchased a boat together; he went out fishing one day and never returned. The coast guard eventually found the boat with Janus's clothes folded on the deck.
Urza had been working on a time machine on Tolaria/Zeal/Asgard. The Phyrexians managed to get an agent called {(K'rrick/Billith/Hela)/Jim (Freyr Destructive)} onto Tolaria, and on 2017.01.18, Hela destroyed Tolaria. In a moment of panic, Urza sent back a golem named {Horus/Thor/Karn(Xantcha/Gerrard/Serra)/Lore(Freyr Honorable)} to stop the invasion, destroying the time machine/mammon machine in the process and shattering spacetime.
Over the course of centuries, the Rifts on Dominaria grew and multiplied, pulling in alternate timelines and future and past events. People from eras all over history vanished from their timelines and were pulled into the wreckage of the time crash; e.g. Amelia Earhart, the Philidelphia Experiment. Multiple versions of the same people, e.g. Braids, Dementia Caster and Braids, Conjuror Adept, manifested concurrently in a single timeline. A time mage named {Teferi(Sutekh Honorable)} sacrificed his godhood to seal the rifts (possibly resulting in his entombment which led to him becoming Bolas-Yawgmoth; hard to say at this point).
Schala/Eris/Discord/Dis of the Vanir, me, hi., her erasure from existence, the golden apple, Paris presiding over alloting it to Hera, Aphrodite, or Athena; the goddesses' bribes, Paris(Probably Ravana) (possibly in his recurrent incarnation as the Prophet) taking Aphrodite's option and selecting Helen of Troy/Hela/Isis/Ninki/(Probably Sita) (possibly for the express purpose of using her as fuel), the entire Trojan War/Time War.
The Phyrexians could not return to Dominaria, but over the millennia found ways to influence other worlds remotely. They created another artificial plane, called Rath, and filled it with a substance called flowstone, which expanded outward from the stronghold that formed it. Rath was placed close to Dominaria/Midgard, and over time overlaid the terrain, resulting in a single continuous plain.
Phyrexia (Mirrodin/Asgard) invaded Dominaria (Vanaheim). 99% of the world’s inhabitants died. Urza and Bolas/Yawgmoth had both been preparing for the invasion for thousands of years; Urza managed to destroy Phyrexia and kill Yawgmoth. Urza himself was killed when he fell in love with the pinnacle of Yawgmoth’s creations, a sanctum of metallic, artificial life in imitation of natural life. He was decapitated by the ubermench he had engineered over those thousands of years to destroy the world which he subsequently fell in love with.
At some point, the Library of Alexandria was burned down by St. Cyril, and Hypatia (me, hi) was skinned alive, raped, and dismembered;
After the Dominarian apocalypse, Karn became fused with the Phyrexian heart of Xantcha, the powerstone eyes of Urza, the genetic matrix of Gerrard, and the Barque of Millions of Years/The Weatherlight, a skyship powered by the powerstone that contained <the collapsed plane of Serra's Realm/Schala in the amit>. He went on to create an artificial plane called Argentum, which became corrupted by Phyrexian oil, seeded with life by its caretaker Memnarch, renamed to Mirrodin, and eventually mutated into New Phyrexia.
At some point Aku from the destroyed timeline came to Midgard and built a planar portal to go back to Thran Dominaria/Krypton, there was a battle with Superman/Adam, and as the comics tell it, Kara Zor-el, while fighting Aku, triggered the portal and sent Aku back to Krypton with the sickness he was carrying, causing the Phyresis event in a closed loop in time.
There were the events of Evangelion, where Adam and <listed as Lilith? Yet Nin Lil and Nin Ki are differentiated as deities> go back in time 4 billion years, etc etc, where they set up a base in order to manipulate the events of history; Adam was Elon and <Lilith?Eve was Nin Ki>, who he put into an amit on 2018.02.06.1545 which was used to power the time machine.
In Chrono Cross, two timelines diverge: One where Lavos ([La Vos/Big Fire]--Schala/Enki--Ninki) wiped out the dinosaurs (Vanir) in the First Impact and mammals (Aesir) came to inherit the material plane and build Chronopolis (Atlantis); and another, presumably the original, where the Vanir created a temporal complex called Dinopolis (Lemuria).
YorHa, apparently equivalent to Dinopolis, remains in the original timeline to present day, 11945 (After Epoch)/ 11947/2019;
Alternate Timeline
On Tarkir, Sarkhan Vol altered history such that a battle between Orion-Urza and Amun-Bolas that had been won by Urza had instead been won by Bolas. This resulted in an extinct species of dragons (the Vanir) that had been wiped out in the First Impact being restored to life, as well as the current mythos where Set destroyed Osiris and scattered his parts across the blind eternities.
At some point, Hermes(Prophet) gambled with Khonsu(Moon God) for five days worth of Time, so that Nut could bear Five Children: Osiris, Isis, Nephthys, Sutekh, and Horus; doing so stretched the planet's orbital period from 360 days to 365 days, causing it to deviate from and cutting it off from the Prime timeline; the reason this arbiter was 85 years late in arriving to oversee the procession of the zodiac was because Sol-3 was not where it was supposed to be when it arrived.
The First Impact was the collision of a giant spherical object, designated the Black Moon, into Earth approximately 4 billion years ago. As a result of the impact, huge amounts of debris, including the Black Moon's rocky exterior, were thrown into orbit, eventually coalescing into Earth's satellite, the Moon. The core of the Black Moon and the Seed of Life Lilith contained within it remained intact, although Lilith's Spear of Longinus was somehow lost or destroyed during the collision.
In the Doctor Who mythos, the Doctor is Enki; the Time Lords are either the Aesir or the Jotunn; the Daleks are either the Vanir or the Jotunn, and are definitely the Phyrexians.
The Second Impact is a cataclysm which followed the "Contact Experiment" conducted on Adam in the South Pole on 2000.09.13. The awakened and injured Angel created a strong Anti A.T. Field which caused an explosion that melted the Antarctic ice cap and caused a shift of Earth's axis; climate changes and gigantic floods followed.
The biblical Flood occurred in 9900 BCE, where all the civilizations on Sol-3 were wiped out. Flood references in Halo and Mass Effect, both made by Ea, state that all life in the galaxy was destroyed. The Flood was plotted by Anu, Enlil, Ninurta, Ennugi, and Enki-Elon-Tesla. Enki warned Atrahasis/Utnapishtim/Noah, who built an ark, known in the Egyptian coffin texts as the Barque of Millions of Years, and filled it with the Ogdoad.
Amun-Bolas showed up, entombed three of the Ogdoad, brainwashed the remaining five, killed all the adults, and raised a plane of super-soldiers like crops. He left the plane he called Amonkhet, promising a fateful return when glory and light would come to the honored warriors. Instead, he killed everyone (i.e. Flood event).
Amun-Bolas took the army to Ravnica, which is equivalent to Coruscant of the Star Wars mythos; the War of the Spark on Ravnica is currently underway.

About the Heartstriker council...
We know that one seat is elected from the Fangs, one from the rest of the clan, and one belongs to Bethesda in perpetuity.
What happens if she dies? Is there a contingency for that? (The constitution is both absolutely gigantic and written by a seer, so I kind of assume the answer is “if it’s going to be an issue, yes.” And plotwise I have no idea if I think she’s going to survive the series or not. Or if she’s going to regain her dragon form, for that matter.)
So, who is her heir in that situation?
The wielder of her own Fang? There’s a certain logic to that, but I have a hard time imagining any introduced character taking it—maybe David, or even Ian, but I have a tough time imagining it.
Her killer, if they’re a Heartstriker? Julius is unlikely to let that happen; he loathes her, but if he didn’t let his favorite sister, the one who’s suffered the most at her hands, kill her, he’s certainly not letting anyone else do it.
The dragon who would have been her heir, if the council hadn’t happened? Well, that’s complicated...
Amelia’s technically a possibility, but only technically. She’s not dead anymore, but she is a Mortal Spirit, and there’s probably a conflict of interest in making the goddess of all dragons a leader of a single clan. And besides, it’s pretty well established that she really doesn’t want the job.
If not Amelia, though, who is Bethesda’s heir?
The established upper-alphabet dragons, other than Amelia, are Bob, Chelsie, Conrad, and David.
Bob and Conrad have both already refused to be on the council; I can’t see those answers changing. David wants the job; Chelsie... might also want it, actually. She heartily dislikes the clan other than Julius, the Fs, and possibly Amelia; but since Fredrick picked up her old Fang, the rest of F-clutch is probably going to stay in Heartstriker to support him. And I can see her wanting power; even when the matter of the Fang’s seat first came up, she said that if not for Bethesda’s control over her she’d like being on the council.
Julius confirms, during the latest book, that most dragon clans are ruled by their “matriarchs”; it’s not clear if this is a hard-and-fast rule, but male clan heads are rare enough to make the Golden Emperor an oddity. Chelsie is both the oldest “surviving” daughter and possibly the only one with children of her own; since her children actually like her, she’s got a built-in power base now that they’re free. She also has a terrifying personal reputation of her own, which could only be an asset to a clan head. (Not to mention the clout of being the Golden Emperor’s beloved.)
And if Chelsie and David are the two contenders, I really can’t see David getting the job. So... if Bethesda does die, I’m betting that Chelsie gets the “permanent” seat on the clan council.

Listening to A Dragon of a Different Color on audio...
Xian’s plan is still terrible the second time around. And I remain amused by Julius’s and Marci’s respective plots. Marci: undergoes a perilous journey through the underworld in an attempt to solidify her bond with a death god. Julius: attempts to resolve his favorite sister’s relationship issues.
I mean, I’m pretty invested in Chelsie’s love life, and I found Julius’s half of the book fairly entertaining, but it still really amuses me that it can be summarized like that.
Some parts of the book are much better in audio!
Specifically, tiny Amelia ordering Sir Myron to grovel and thank Marci for saving his life. That was entertaining. (And her repeatedly reminding Marci that she can, in fact, leave the guy who just tried to kill her to die. I mean, I sympathize with Marci’s reasons for not doing that and he did come in handy in the end, but given the amount of shit he’d pulled by that point, it was kinda nice to have someone arguing for just washing their collective hands of him.)
