#2270 - Ambigolimax sp. - Threeband Slug
Tumblr media
A genus of keelback slug, at least for now - there is ongoing debate in slug circles about the exact taxonomic relationships of Ambigolimax and its relatives, and for that matter how many species are in the genus - it may get demoted to a subgenus of Lehmannia. All three currently accepted species are widespread, frequently greenhouse pests, and found in New Zealand.

My pet slug, named Slug.
Not sure what species it is but it's quadrupled in size over the last month since I caught it! Any chance of an ID? I'm in Victoria, Australia.
(btw i know about dangers of handling slugs/snails, I sanitize my hands thoroughly after holding them)
non-native Ambigolimax sp.

Saw this lovely friend after it rained here in Arkansas. I was so excited to see them, I stopped everything to take a couple pictures!
This is a very nice slug! I also would have stopped to spend time with it. It would appear to be a striped greenhouse slug, Ambigolimax valentianus. It also appears to be a friend. 👌

I find a lot of very small slugs in the Tropical Forest building, but this one was by far the biggest. iNaturalist thinks its Ambigolimax, a European keel-backed slug known to inhabit greenhouses.

hello! i noticed you keep slugs as pets, and i know you understand how difficult it is to find information on their care- so i wanted to talk to you! i have a few three banded garden slugs (Ambigolimax valentianus) that i found in a plant i had brought home. they've been alive for 2 weeks now. they're so adorable. i was wondering if you knew anything about this species? or maybe have general slug keeping tips? thank you so much! only answer if you want to.
Low circulation (a tight solid lid) to keep in moisture, deep damp soil and lots of things to hide under like tree bark seems to be perfect for every kind of slug, I feed all of my omnivorous/herbivorous slugs frozen slices of zuchinni, cucumber, and some fish flakes and they thrive!
