Two for two, fluffy stuff for you!

Caine has fairly neutral opinions on musicals as a whole, but after accidentally catching Pomni singing to herself in the wee hours of the morning and falling in love hard with her pretty voice, he organized a musical adventure with Pomni as the lead star for it. Pomni wasn't thrilled about this even a little bit, but Caine was kicking his feet listening to her. These days, when he can muster the courage to voice his wants, Caine will ask her to sing to him during quiet moments like when they're cuddling at night or in each other's private spaces during the day.

Caine learned how to make coffee with his own two hands for her, no snapping his fingers to make it appear, in an effort to prove his care and devotion. It was a bit of trial and error with measurements and dealing with his own perfectionism-borne frustration (and the fact that Pomni wasn't really keen on drinking cups upon cups of coffee, especially not bad tasting coffee) but it was all worth it to receive her praise and smile once he got it right. He locked the recipe into his code and makes it for her every morning.

Speaking of praise, though she can be clumsy with her words, Pomni learned how to be more overtly praising for him. She can be quick to say what she doesn't like and what upsets her and, in doing so, she can forget to say what she enjoys and what makes her happy, which weighs on Caine, especially whenever he legitimately tries. A program can't learn to do right if you only tell it what it's doing wrong, she supposed.

Despite Caine's eccentric way of speaking, Pomni is the one with more pet names for him. It started as her just repurposing Jax's attempts at insulting them so she could get under his skin about not caring what he had to say, but then she started to legitimately enjoy calling Caine things like "sweet tooth" and "cavity." He just gets so cute when she calls him that...

I have a headcanon that Jax doesn't like being alone- for himself or anyone else- and that's why he suggested Caine create an adventure for Pomni, and later, that they go find something to eat, since those activities would likely keep people together. It could also be why he made sure Gangle and Kinger would stick together, and hid with them after Kaufmo abstracted.

I have a few more reasons for this hc, but I'm not good with words and this already feels clunky to me, so I'm leaving it off here.

Oh, I enjoy this! I can totally see Jax trying really hard to pull strings as subtly as possible to make sure people aren't alone.

I bet Zooble is always the hardest to convince to be amongst the others, it's probably why Jax was in no hurry to "save them" from the gloinks to cos those humanoid hashbrowns are from Caine's homebrew adventures, so they should be relatively harmless and a cause for mild inconvenience (which would mean Zooble'll be too busy to be in existential dread even if they were alone).

Also, I think it's neat that Pomni got sandwiched between Ragatha and Jax's two opposing attitudes during their breif walk to Kaufmo's room.

Ragatha likes to see the bright side of things or say positive remarks just to avoid the darker side of a conversation. While Jax, on the other hand, just teases Pomni for thinking her situation is still just a dream. It's like a healthy dose of "Technically, this might be shit for you if you're this shocked, kinda funny tho." and "You'll be okay... Probably, Certainly." (I didn't even realize my name had the same syllables as 'go go power rangers, I can't unhear it thank you for this blessed infernal knowlegde)

not to get on my soapbox or anything but you have given me a great corner to shout from

as a disclaimer I totally understand why people will choose not to read wips and I truly think you know your mental health and what you can stand to wonder about/think about/obsess over/NEED to know a conclusion for better than anyone else

BUT as a writer who almost exclusively posts in wips, people reading them before they’re finished is my life blood and I am so grateful and it makes the writing process so much more fun for me because I know at least someone else is invested in my brainworm of a story?? someone else is enjoying it and thinking about it and I’m putting a small amount of good into the world??

the best analogy I’ve been able to come up with is like:

when you read a finished fic you’re eating a whole meal and that’s great that’s so amazing (especially if you tell the cook you liked it after you’re done). and you’re literally always welcome to eat that meal whenever you want. finished fics are like standing dinner invitations: I am always happy to have you and I mean that very genuinely

but if you read a wip, you’re keeping me company in the kitchen while I cook. and that’s sort of priceless. in some instances, you can even tell me the food needs more spice and I’ll think about it and listen!!! you’re sitting on my kitchen counter as I bustle around my space and we’re talking about what I’m doing and also how I’m feeling and maybe how you’re feeling and it just feels like community more than anything else I’ve experienced in any fandom. like you’re with me in my space as I’m creating food I hope you like. we’re both invested and it’s amazing

and I think in general that’s why wips are a lot of fun and also maybe why the waiting between chapters is fun for you - you’ve suggested that I add paprika to the pot and you’re waiting and wondering if I will, and I’m laughing and hoping you like the soup either way but also wondering if paprika will work with the recipe, and if I can add a bit to it just for you while staying true to the dish I envisioned at the get go.
