There is so much that I love about Ayaka chan wa Hiroko senpai ni koishiteru episode 6 but I understand other peoples concerns.

Before we judge Risa and Mama (and others in the bar) we need to understand their purposes as characters within the story as well as what their personalities are like. Because it is as much as about them as characters as well as what they represent in this story. Firstly, they are representing three generations of lesbian attitudes and behaviours. Risa and Ayaka being unabashedly confident in themselves as they don't deliberately hide their sexuality (and also in Risa's case, seeing the lying about one's identity as cowardice) representing the confidence, innocence and straight forwardness of the younger generation. Ayaka represents the middle generation in this case who has experienced that acting on their feelings/being herself has consequences in the wider society that we live in as well as to the people we love (she represents to me the that our lives are bigger than our own quote). Which results in her being more reserved and cautious navigating this world still hiding aspects of herself depending on the context. Mama represents a more older generation who has also probably seen various types of queers walk through that bar opening up to her about their experiences as well as her own. She understands both the younger and middle generation (and might've gone through a similar path herself). She is the balanced voice of reason in this series as well as everyone's confidant. Hence why it is appropriate for her to reveal to us about Hiroko's past.

Hiroko has been living a double life to her own detriment for the last ten years. She has kept a facade of a cool co-worker/manager that is extremely capable of work, reliable whilst managing interpersonal relationships in a cohesive non-judgemental way - this allows her to avoid others attention to herself as a person as that would break the facade. But she was not always like this as seen in the way she confused to Chinatsu senpai in the past (which reminded me of Ayaka haha). The facade is the manifestation of her guilt she feels towards Chinatsu senpai and she sees it as her responsibility to maintain it at all costs otherwise in her perspective senpai resigning would've become meaningless. This was the main reason she was blind to Ayaka's advances because it happened at her workplace. In her personal life she is extremely open about her sexuality and though in the first episode in the lesbian bar she comes off easy going as she flirts with others (but I have a feeling that she did not have any serious relationships after the incident as her guilt would've been too strong).

For me it makes sense why Mama would tell Hiroko's past to Ayaka and Risa (and subsequently to us as the audience). Mama knows the history of Hiroko, before the incident and after the incident to who she has become today. She also one of the few people that knows that Ayaka likes Hiroko (which I think Risa might have picked up on as well). She can see Hiroko's walls that she has built to protect herself and knows that Hiroko won't let go of that facade to even give Ayaka and herself a chance. We need to judge Mama's actions through the perspective of Hiroko not our own. She had Hiroko's best interest at heart irregardless of her actions. If Hiroko is angry at her then we would see some confrontation regarding her and Mama (and the other bar guests in future episodes). But from what we have seen of Hiroko so far, I doubt it would be like that because Hiroko herself knows she needs some intervention to breakdown the walls she barricaded herself with. I think it is unfair to judge characters actions as if there is only one "right" way of doing things because that's not true in fiction or in real life.

I still love love Risa. I was really glad that she told plainly that it is Hiroko that Ayaka likes and it is her straightforwardness that actually gets through to Hiroko. It is also consistent with Risa's personality that she did that because like Ayaka she doesn't hide her feelings when it matters. She is highly passionate and loves Ayaka that she is trying to help them get together and decided to stop her unrequited feelings because she values her friendship with Ayaka. Her actions might not be the "correct" ones but she is a good friend in her own way and I want to appreciate that.

I am looking forward to seeing how Ayaka is able to break down Hiroko's facade in the workplace to show her that it is different to ten years ago. (But also thinking in terms of how there still is no law protecting those discriminated on the basis of their sexuality in Japan, I wonder if they will portray acceptance only within the current workplace itself)

About the fic tho,,, your writing is so good. I came for the arc between Hunter and Vee (which I ADORE btw), but everyone’s characterization is just top tier imo. You even think through canonical strengths so well that you find new ways to turn them into FLAWS and I like it a very not normal amount.

Like… Luz genuinely fucking up a bit? Without being tricked like she was with Philip? You created such neat depth around her coping mechanism of distracting herself by helping others heheheee!!

so. ADVICE. You've been writing Homebrew Blorbos, and you want to get other people interested in them. The first thing I will say, is that it is hard, and it will always be hard. getting people invested in your worlds/characters takes work, and without the fandom platform, it's difficult to direct traffic your way in the first place. i.e. ao3 has an original fiction category which is good for hosting a work you don't want to publish, but it's not as if people follow that tag there.

I love reading original work, but I need one of two things to get me to read it: one, I love the author's fanwork and want to read more of their writing (if I love your fic, I will read your book okay); and two, the concept itself is interesting / what I'm looking for -- but for that, I need to find it first.

so. how do you get traffic your way?

tumblr is a good means for advertising. so. there are online writing communities on tumblr that only write original work, and only write the kinds of things I'm interested in reading. it's how I found a few authors whose books I've bought >:3 my advice is to look into tags that contain the same themes / dynamics of your original work, and see how other people are posting their work / talking about their work, and what gets the most traffic. learn from others!

I won't be posting large sections of my original work on tumblr, because once something is out there, it's out there. people can and do steal fiction and self publish it on amazon. also, as much as I love tumblr, it's not a good place for publishing full works, as it's clunky as hell, and posts older than a month vanish into the nether.

so you need to decide what your want to do with your original work. will it become a book? will you post it as an online serial, and then rework this first draft into a book? (like the gabe and odessa fic!) aside from tumblr (which has a thriving short story / serial story community), ao3 (for fic hosting) and amazon (you can publish your story as a serial there, although it's US restricted, and difficult to get noticed amidst the crowd), I don't know really of any other good original fiction hosting platforms aside from self publishing.

(real publishing is a nightmare, and if that's your goal, kudos to you! I know a few authors in fandom going that route for different genres, and they are incredible writers, but breaking through is goddamn difficult.)

but if you just want people to read it, and give you feedback, then talk about it!! post snippets / chapters, talk about the characters, utilise the tags on tumblr and ao3 to find people with similar interests.

...one thing I will say though, as a final note, is from what I've seen, the quality of original work by people not in fandom <<<< people in fandom. you've had years of practice writing characters and scenes, and once you make that leap into original work, you're pretty much set <3

Hiyori excitedly met up with two of her best friends, Juri and Chizuru, one sunny and peaceful weekend. The three of them planned to go shopping for clothes, shoes, make up, stuffed animals... That kind of fun stuffs together.

To Hiyori's delight everything at the end of their day of shopping was very fun. After they finished shopping Juri suggested that they go for karaoke like before. Both Hiyori and Chizuru simply agreed then another idea came into Juri.

"How about we invite others? Wouldn't that be fun?"

With that Hiyori tried texting LipxLip if they were available.

(Well, the President did say one of LipxLip goals is to enjoy their high school life! I'm doing this as a part of my manager-in-trainer job! And also for fun~ Oh! Nagisa is also in Tokyo at the moment I should definitely invite him! )

"So did you get the idol boys and Nagisa?" Juri asked with a grin.

Hiyori jumped."H-How did you know I invited Nagisa?!"

Juri laughed. "It's written all over your face Hiyori!"

Hiyori touched her face. "Is it really???"

Chizuru giggled. "Hattori did you invite your boyfriend?"

"Yep! Chizuru you guessed it."Juri held up her phone with the message to her boyfriend. "He still has work today but he'll come if he can make it."

Chizuru smiled. " It was written all over your face too Hattori."

"I invited Shibasaki-kun and Someya-kun. But they said they would come too since their also hanging out today." Hiyori returned her phone inside her pocket.

"I see. Those two are close... Ah, Chizuru that's a biiiig grin in your face. 'Aizou-kun is coming' is literally written all over you." Juri snickered.

Chizuru face flushed and turned away. "Leave me alone..."

Hiyori and Juri laughed.

"Anyways let's go!!!"

The three girls arrived at the karaoke place.

Hiyori beamed at the very familiar well decorated room. "We're here first!"

"Sweet! We own the place for ourselves!" Juri cheered too.

They pretty much own the karaoke place the whole afternoon.

Chizuru came in and set their shopping bags down. "Isn't it natural for us to be the first one to arrive? We don't want the other waiting for long." She adjusted her glasses. "We are the ones who invited them."

It would have been much better if the three of them waited for the others after all. Then again they could use the remaining time to rest around from all their shopping earlier.

"You're no fun Chizuru. You don't get it." Juri shook her head.

"Huh?"

Hiyori clapped her hands together. "We arrived here first so that we can be the first ones to sing without somebody watching or judging!"

Juri nodded in approval. "Correct Hiyori! Since we know once the others arrives Chizuru is probably gonna get all nervous."

Chizuru's eyes widened. "Oh I see... Thank you for that.You're not wrong. "

Juri grabbed the remote and immediately scrolled to find the Honeyworks song list. "So what shall we sing first?"

Chizuru fidgeted for a bit before answering. "Do you want to sing together?"

Hiyori's face lit up grabbing the mic.

"Yeah good idea! Let's do it the three of us!"
