I bought your 'Empire' the other day (which I am excited about; I haven't started it yet), but somehow completely missed that you had written historical fiction, and about the Plantagenets, my favourite historical dynasty, so I'll be jumping on that.

I was wondering if you had recommendations for historical fiction set during the Plantagenet reign? I've tried Sharon Kay Penman and unfortunately didn't get on with her writing, which is a shame as I've heard good things about her series. I know Philippa Gregory has several novels set during that time period, but her books seem to be verging on bodice rippers, which isn't what I'm looking for. Was just curious if you had any suggestions for well-researched fiction set during the Plantagenet reign.

This ask has been sitting in my inbox for several days (my apologies) largely because I was trying to think of a more helpful answer for you. Medieval historical fiction is VERY hit and miss for me, not least because it is often written by people who, uh, are not historians and thus have Certain Ideas (TM) about what the medieval period is like. Or they want to use various aesthetics, or they want to make some (usually questionable) point about how women were treated in the past, or they just go whole-hog on total nonsense. As an example of all of these things at once, let us all stare in horror at this recently-released book description together:

(The book is called the Stone Witch of Florence, by the way. I took one look at this and ran screaming. WHY.)

A stone witch?? So she channels the power of gemstones like a modern-day Instagram healing crystals influencer??? BUT ZOMGZ WITCHCRAFT. In the middle of the Black Death. "Unorthodox cures" you say. But they also need holy relics for protection, and I totally trust the author to understand about medieval hagiography/cult of the saints. Totally. We definitely won't get some half-baked comparison between Sekrit Women Magical Gems Which Really Work and Dark Ages Church Superstition Holy Relics Which Are A Fraud, or.... something??? And our nobly mistreated protagonist will super definitely be a real physician if she gets these and never ever accused of witchcraft (which LET US ALL SAY IT TOGETHER IS AN EARLY MODERN THING!!!!) Because medieval medicine was just a bunch of gemstone vibes anyway! Makes total sense!

...my head hurts.

Anyway, while not all examples are this egregious, the point is: I love historical fiction, but I almost always can't read it when it's set in the medieval era. I read Sharon Kay Penman a while ago and enjoyed her stuff at the time, though I have assorted gripes with it on a stylistic/historical level. While Philippa Gregory does have real academic credentials, she likewise has gone totally down the bodice-ripper alternate-history crackpot theory Secret Women Magic version of things, which is... fine if that's your jam, but just like you, it is not mine. I thus have to read fiction which is set in other periods or which I know less about or where at least I am more capable of turning off my brain and accepting things for the sake of the story. So as you see, I unfortunately don't have many useful suggestions for you in this field, since the kind of medieval historical fiction that I like to recommend is, say, The Name of the Rose. Which is terrific and written for someone of a professional medievalist's level of knowledge, but is not exactly everyone's cup of tea when they just want something fun and easy to understand.

I am, of course, happy to give other book recommendations if you'd like to broaden your request, and I'll do my best to think -- but yes! As I said, I wish I could be more helpful here. I shall persist.

Let's say the reader belongs to a clan similar to Myodha.

who precisely practice magic and alternative medicine, medicines, herbology, poisons, etc. By combining both arts, they became quite relevant and powerful.

Thanks to this, they allied themselves with the true Cross for business purposes, since it was quite useful for them to have the Vatican as an ally in the market, apart from the fact that now they could test their knowledge on other subjects.

You guessed it, demons.

Can you imagine that Mephisto's first interaction with this family was when they were working in the laboratory/section 13?💀

Taking the above into account, Mephisto had knowledge of this family, but no more than he would have of any other family that worked with him or the order.

I saw them as interesting humans, but greedy and self-righteous.

That's when the reader comes in.

reader, despite having grown up in such a...peculiar environment, had her own convictions, her own ideas about how the family should use its resources.

They had so many medical advances, so many remedies and medicines at hand, magic that could CURE diseases, why not share that with the world?

Even if the reader knew that she could not do what she proposed, not only for her family, but for the order, she continued to maintain her position.

This was what caught Mephisto's attention. He was interested.

Coming from a "family" in which he is the black sheep himself, you could say that he sees a little of himself in the reader (only more naive and weak according to him).

But it was something he liked, he can't explain why, but he felt attracted to the sincerity of the reader.

It's like...wanting to take care of SOMETHING precious in the outside world.

I like to think that at least at first he would "try" to approach him in a more "normal" way or have a proper courtship, things like chats during work or gifts, which when received positively only fuels Mephisto's interest even more, which becomes darker with time.

I think he is one of the demon brothers who can become a yandere the fastest for someone, just a couple of days. since it does not need a romantic connection as such, but a simple INTEREST. although in this case you could say that he feels a certain connection to the "black sheep of the family" part.

I've said it before, Mephisto is a shameless yandere. When he starts to feel unusual things towards the reader, he won't hide it.

More in this case, what reader sees the red flags and says "is it really RED RED?"

Let's say that the fact that the reader is a volunteer helps a lot for Mephisto to bring out his best and worst side as a yandere.

to give an example.

Mephisto is much less oppressive with a voluntary Darling, because if she is already willing, why restrict her?

He's a clingy piece of shit, that's even if he wasn't a yandere, although at least with a willing Darling he CAN tone it down a bit. Although the reader should expect many displays of physical affection and PDA if she is going to be in a relationship with him.

He and the reader go on dates outside MUCH MORE OFTEN than if she were a kidnapped darling, for OBVIOUS reasons.

It is much calmer in several aspects. basically.

But there are also others that could worsen considerably or remain the same.

his possessiveness for example.

At first Mephisto would see the reader as something precious, something to care for and protect because of her rarity and beauty, it would take him a LONG time to see her as an equal, so sometimes (sometimes on purpose, sometimes not) he would treat her in a condescending way. .

AND YOU CAN'T AVOID IT! He is millions of years old and is the third most powerful being in his universe, it would really take time (hehe) for him to see his HUMAN partner (no matter how much magic she has) as his equal.

Also an aspect that remains even with the reader being a volunteer is his level of jealousy and in a certain way overprotection.

In itself, the reason he likes Reader is because he wants to protect her from the world, Mephisto loves her, but he thinks she is too naive, deluded, so he is VERY aware of his surroundings in case there is any possible threat.

And I also mean "threat" to things like disrespect, making the reader feel bad, catcalling, etc. everything is an offense.

at least Mephisto takes care of those kinds of problems ASAP, whether it's a "little accident" or just a hit from him that pulverizes half your body.

He is needy, so he wants attention almost at all times, ESPECIALLY if it is a reader.

If there is someone who diverts their attention for too long, depending on the case, it can end very badly.

if it's a one-time thing, Mephisto will just break all their bones, but he won't kill them. but if it is something constant that they do not want to stop, then they can make peace with any god they pray to...

No one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE has more right to the kindness of a reader than him, he doesn't care if she is at work or healing someone, he wants her pampering >:(

For this reason, it is most likely that when the reader begins to have a relationship with him, he will make her quit her job, although don't worry! He has it all covered. Whether through threats or other methods, he makes the reader's family comply with her demands, whatever it takes to see her happy and safe at home~

Here, ironically, it is only when the isolation stage begins. You could say that the fact that the reader accepted his advances caused him to delay, but Mephisto can only not show this side of him for so long.

Now that reader doesn't have a job to attend to, her only job is to be with him and love him, it's that simple.

However, be prepared, because once you deal with this demon, his true colors are much more evident.

It also starts to become more obvious when the people who make him jealous/angry suddenly disappear. If the reader asks him about it, he will not give himself away, but he will not deny it either.

One would think that by now the reader would have tried to run away, hurt him, etc. because well, HE IS A HORRIBLE BEING!

but for some reason she continues to stay with him of her own free will, FOR LOVE.

and that only means that when they find out that they are going to be parents, things become between better and worse.

On the one hand, they are going to have their own little family! but on the other hand, Mephisto's tendencies will not only be directed towards his wife, but also towards his daughter.

Contrary to what most people say, I think that if Mephisto had a baby with his partner, he would be just as obsessive and jealous with the baby as with his mother, it's simple instinct.

When the reader becomes pregnant, it means TOTAL and absolute isolation. there are no buts.

Although Reader goes for a walk from time to time because it is good for her, it will always be with Mephisto, since she doesn't even trust anyone else for that type of tasks.

reader WILL BE CONCENTRATED LIKE YOU CAN'T IMAGINE, I already did it before this, but now? multiply it by 3.

Mephisto can set up the nursery in less than 3 seconds with a snap of his fingers, but at least he has the decency not to decorate it like he would decorate his room😅(with anime things).

Mephisto is quite anxious about the task, and definitely brings the reader's relatives to help in that area.

He tries to act as usual, but deep down he is terrified that the demon baby will kill his wife.

although she definitely throws all that out the window when the girl is born and the reader is fine.

and you bet, he becomes a platonic yandere for his daughter too!

You could say that he has a special bond with his daughter by being 1- a demon who from the beginning makes it easier for him to see her as an "equal" and 2- a human hybrid, the beings that he finds so interesting.

Plus, she is his daughter and the only human he has been able to love in such a twisted way in millions of years. How could he not love this little creature?

This daughter's life will be complicated, to say the least.

although at least it has its good sides having the whole family.

Mephisto, despite his tendencies, is a... decent father? it's fun. The girl never has a boring time with him.

I mentioned it in another post, he is the mad hatter. His daughter is his Alice. and reader here would be your queen of hearts.

I can definitely see Mephisto teaching his yandere tendencies to his daughter as "normal" or as "a way to protect mom from the outside world" which depending on the case, could make Mephisto have an ally or the reader have a way of knowing when Mephisto is lying to him.

Like I said, it's complicated.

but when Mephisto has his own tendencies towards his daughter.

although at least his daughter has her mother to keep Mephisto a little more in line. a bit.

It's a strange, twisted family life, they love each other, but at what cost...

District Four's Market

Fish Market stalls: buys fish from the fishermen. Their stock is often common sea fish including blackfin tuna, bluefin tuna, redfish, red grouper, salmon, and king Marckerel. The capital had alternated most fish species to be able to live by District four, which is why there is many varieties of fish. Stalls often near the pier

Seashell sellers: they collect and sell seashells from the beach. All of their shells have to be full, non broken, and pretty. They sometimes have have dried out seastars, washed up urchins, and sand dollars. They have small buildings near the peir, sometimes more inland, but not often.

Ship repairs, wood: they repair old wooden pirate like ships before they embark on their journey out sea. They are paid by the government, but not much as wooden pirate ships aren't, in the captial's words, good enough in comparison to the metal ones. Little do they know, the most successful fishers have had more luck on wooden ships than metal. They are on the edges of docks and peirs, close to ships.

Ship repairs, metal: like the wooden boat repairs, they repair the metal fishing boats. They are given more money by the government, but their ships aren't the best repaired, which is why sailors use the wooden ships more often. Again, they are near the peir and docks.

Net stalls: they hand weave all types of nets. To keep them dry, they set up stalls more inland. The higher quality nets are sold in upper class areas.

Hooks and baits shops: nice, small buildings that sell hand crafted hooks and fish baits. Most hooks and baits shops don't have high quality products, but if you live in the upper class areas you will find better hooks, and sometimes rarer baits. They are all over district four.

boat shops: there is only 3 of these buildings, as the boats take a very long time to make. They are on pairs, so you can take your boat out the moment you get them.

Deep sea creature buildings: these make money. They buy lobsters, red crabs, oysters, squid and octopus. These are typically very expensive, so residents of district four have to be "wealthy" to be able to buy some. These shops are in high class areas.

miscellaneous items: these are most likely necklaces, messages in bottles, pieces of coral that wasn't wanted by seashell sellers, pendants, ships in bottles, books, maps of the sea, candles, or fables for children. Found everywhere.

Different types of food is found everywhere

Exotic fish: Saliors who fish up any exotic or weird creatures, sell them to these buyers, who in turn sell them to any brave person. In the deeper parts of the Black Market.

"bewitched" items: a monkey's paw, a large shark tooth, messages from pirates years ago, all things that may be considered cursed is found here. there is only one of these stalls, so if you want a cursed item you better get it fast.

prostitutes: the women, or men, desperate for money may become prostitutes. Buildings holding them are found at the middle of the Skull and Bones territory.

Bones: many types of bones are sold in the Skull and bone territory. There are shark jaws, fish skeletons, "mermaid tails", and rarely human bones. Stalls found in the back.

tonics: these are commonly made medicines that are needed. Found in the front of the black market.

Tattoo shops: Tattoos are huge in District Four. To get a tattoo, you must have a story to tell, and someone to back it up. They can tell if your lying. Found everywhere, only opens in night and early morning hours.

The Trench: District Four has many bars, but this is the most popular. This is a bar and diner with a stage for music or magic shows to be held. They have a variety of great tasting drinks and food. Saliors spend most of their free time here, sometimes they even bring their familes. Found close to the sea, free to enter.

Mermaid Cove: a less popular yet nice bar. This is for people 15 and up, as it's mainly drinking and gambling for pearls and coins. Found in the middle class area.

Davy Jone's locker: the most popular bar in the Skull and Bones territory. They sell drinks that are very questionable to drink. Some food, but not much. Found in the middle of the Skull and Bones territory

The Black Pearl: Has hard drinks that make you believe nothing is real. It has a dark, wet, and cold atmosphere. A popular bar in the Skull and Bones territory. It is found near the beach closest to the territory

I’m rewatching Black Butler since the new season is coming out in March, and I wanted to draw my persona (she/they) in the series. I used to do that a lot when I was younger too so it’s kinda nostalgic in a way haha

Some goofy info of my sona in the black butler universe:

Normally, they’d go by the name “Cryptid” since it’s the closest thing to what they are. In this universe, they’ll probably go by an alternate name since they realized that “Cryptid” isn’t a normal name. Maybe they’ll go by Cecilia cause it starts with C

They’re a witch who works in a small medicine shop in one of the smaller towns near Phantomhive Manor. It’s the closest she can get away with magic and potions without seeming too suspicious. Though, time and time again she’ll supply the underground world with powerful potions and posions.

Following up from the last bullet point, Cecilia aligns with chaotic neutral the most. She doesn’t question the reasons why humans would want to buy her poisons, but she finds it pretty amusing. Humans can be so careless with what they want.

Cecilia is a major yapper and will barely shut up. Whenever someone (cough cough Ciel or Sebastian) wants to stay quiet, they just shove candy in her mouth and hope for the best. Along with that, she has a habit of uh- breaking into the Phantomhive manor whenever her store is quiet. The servants are used to it by now and just lets them wander around. They aren’t a major threat anyways.

Their favorite shape is a heart, so those motives are present throughout their outfit. (That’s just in any universe tbh hahshaha)

Her favorite people to be with are actually Prince Soma and Agni. Yes, Cecilia will always follow Ciel around because of his missions, he isn’t the best conversationist. She finds Prince Soma quite funny to be around and enjoys talking to him whenever she can. Agni also helps her out with cooking cause uh,,,,,she has a 50/50 chance of making her food good. Potion making is one thing, but cooking is a whole other science that she can’t handle. They find Agni remarkable and a noble man.

They have stolen Sebastian’s cat once. A gray kitten crawled out of his closet and found Cecilia as she climbed into the manor window. Thinking that the cat distribution system chose them, they scooped up the furball and walked around with it all day. Sebastian found her with the cat and scolded their ear off about it.

The witch sometimes sees Ciel as a younger brother. He’s a traumatized boy with no proper adult figure in his life (Sebastian isn’t a good adult figure tbh 💀💀💀 bro is a manipulator). Yeah sure they sneak into the manor once in a while, but they’ll always keep an eye out for him and try to socialize with him as much as possible. He doesn’t go out often.

Sebastian and Cecilia has an on and off kind of relationship. Sebastian is aware that Cecilia is not human, but can’t put a finger on what exactly is she. He’s also annoyed at the fact that she sneaks into the manor almost every week. On the other hand, Cecilia is jealous at the fact that Sebastian is way too perfect, especially at cooking. He blends in with society extremely well, yet gets to pass off his powers as talent.

Glimmerfall town

The poorer section of district 1 glimmerfall town is the more neglected part of the district The town sits at the edge of mining operations, surrounded by rough, rocky terrain. Dust clouds could rise from the constant digging, giving everything a muted, golden hue

- the residence live in an abandoned mansions that once belonged to the capitol richest family in the beginning foundation of panem but who since then abounded their homes to go live in the capitol, alternatively they also live in small simple houses

- looming structures dominate the town like mine shafts, conveyor belts and machinery built for digging, they cast long shadows on parts of the town

- though they are seen as the joke of district 1 the people of glimmerfall town are tough and proud, children learn about gemstones and the kinds of it very early and in schools, they are also very creative and ressouful , some like to add glamour to their simple mining clothes like using a Gold thread for stitching or making pendants and accessories from discarded gemstones

-Life revolves around the mines. Everyone, young or old, contributes in some way, from mining to cleaning gemstones or handling dangerous equipment. The town wakes up early to the sounds of mining tools and machines starting up, with people heading into the mines for long shifts but Despite the gritty, exhausting work, the residents have a deep appreciation for the beauty of the materials they work with. One can find small altars or shrines in homes made of spare gold or gems, celebrating the natural wealth they labor over but never get to keep

- the children go to school using the train that connects the town to the school area

- The lighting is sparse within the houses, with old lanterns and lamps flickering along the streets. At night, the town could glow faintly with the soft shimmer of gold dust in the air. Despite its poverty, there’s a surreal, almost magical atmosphere created by the omnipresence of precious metals.

- there is an underground black market underneath and within an abandoned mansion that once belonged to a wealthy family from the capitol it's referred to as the gilded Vine where citizens can trade gold dust and neglected pieces of gemstones for food or medicine or other needed tolls and supplies occasionally one could trade gold and gemstones stolen from the mines but these trading business is treated with utmost secret as the miners caught stealing will be punished by being thrown to prison for weeks, months, sometimes it can last for years if the prisoner tried to escape

- there are also cheap markets that sell second hand or slightly damaged luxury items that didn’t pass Capitol standards. People would sell silk scraps, broken jewelry, or flawed fabrics at lower prices, allowing the poor to have a taste of the luxury that defines District 1

-Some people in Glimmerfall might use their mining knowledge to craft unique, handmade items from gemstones and metals. These could be simple jewelry or functional items like knives with gem studded handles, Which give the black market a feel of resourcefulness despite its humble origins

- there are also secret buyers from the capitol for illegal luxury items which adds a feeling of constant secrecy as Capitol involvement brings both higher risks and greater rewards for those in the market

- in the beginning of the creation of the hunger games the children of glimmerfall town were among the biggest victims and were considered the low standards of district 1 after careers became a thing the children of glimmerfall town rarely get reaped as there is always a carrer to volunteer for them and also it allows children of reaping age to take out as much tessera as they need without the fear of having their names called however this also caused glimmerfall town to be neglected even more as years went by though children from there can volunteer in the carrer system if they need to or want to

- the residences of glimmerfall town are of south east Asian and Indian and black descent contrasting wildly with the white and blonde majority of district 1

- it's actually not uncommon to be marrying someone from glimmerfall town though this practice is mostly done by middle class citizens then it's done by crownspire which is the wealthiest section of district 1

Tim had no idea where he was

One second he was in the watchtower waiting for Bruce to finish his work and go home, the other second he was trying to hold down the antique-looking magic item coming towards him at top speed to prevent from breaking

Now he was standing in the middle of one of the open bazaar from bygone eras with shabby clothes, greasy hair that had obviously not seen water for a long time, and a coal-black soiled face

The surroundings were too colorful to be a normal day, and the front of people's doors were covered with different items that could be dedicated as food and offerings

Tim wanted to be able to stop one of the hundreds of people passing by for a moment and ask at what time or exactly where he was, but because there was a possibility of distorting the perception of time, he kept his mouth shut from telling everyone and continued walking without knowing where he was, while at the same time checking his body

Under all that mud and dust, he was himself again. The same eye color, the same hair structure, even this body had a stabbing mark where the spleen should have been

He sighed deeply and ran his fingers over his face to remove the blackness from his face. He wonder if there was any chance that he could find water or something from somewhere, he felt really dirty

And then he realized how wrong what he had done was because from the moment his thin hands returned to their normal points, the gaze of every person in the bazaar turned to him in a confused, excited, but mostly scared way

Okay, this was starting to get weird. He frowned slightly and opened his lips to speak

But before he had the opportunity to do so, a young woman grabbed him by the arm and ran into the nearest apartment building

After the woman locked the door behind her, she started looking at Tim with her irises full of tears and started wiping the dirt on his body with a napkin that she dipped into a bucket that she filled with water

'My poor prince, you have forgotten again, have you not? It happens like this every time. You manage to make it to the end of the town, but your mind goes crazy before you can reach the person who will save you. My prince, what are they doing to you in that palace?'

At the sight of Tim's uncomprehending gaze, the woman sighed again, and after pouring the blackened water down the window, she took a small pigeon in her hand. The pigeon had a bell-like item on its foot and would probably make a noise that would spread around every second it flew

The woman, on the other hand, let the animal free without caring and after watching it fly for a few seconds, took him to a room with only a bed in it and locked the door behind it

Before hanging up, she also mentioned that she apologized for everything and did not want to do this

Tim took his head between his hands and banged it against the wall in anger. He should have thought about it a little more before doing something

But right now Tim had to combine the information he had. If what the woman just said is true, the body he is in right now belonged to the prince of this country, so in addition to being in a parallel universe, he probably also traveled through time because the kingdom regimes have taken off from validity at least 100 years ago in his own time period

He took the tip of his thumb nail between his lips and began to hit his teeth with anger while thinking at the same time

The other thing he knew was that the woman looked like she was afraid for his health. She said he had forgotten, so the owner of the body must being given drugs inside the palace or a medicine that caused memory problems, so he was not safe

But these were all results that were found if he accepted that the woman was reliable, so there was no possibility of saying much

And what was the reason why she apologized to him at the last moment? No, something was going wrong, and if Tim wanted to come back, he had to find a solution

He needed to start making plans but there were screaming sounds coming from outside...

Tim stuck his head up in the air with a speed that hurt his neck and started banging on the door. There wasn't even a window in the damn room, so the only way out was this piece of wood, but no matter how much he hit it, it didn't do anything but hurt his hands

In order to put strength on his shoulder, he went to the far end of the room several times and ran towards the door. When he finally succeeded, he felt his stomach lift because of the scene he was facing

This image was too much even for him, who had seen too many murders, so he could not say anything to the fact that the woman he thought had just helped him was gagging at the far end of the wall and crying

There were five bodies lying on the ground, if he hadn't counted wrong. Most of them had their internal organs chopped up and dumped at different points in the house. One of them had his upper and lower body separated from each other, his eyes were open, looking towards Tim

In the middle of everything, there was a man wearing an owl mask and holding a double sword in his hands

As soon as the man saw him coming, he left the soldier's body that he continued to torture and took his small body between his arms, ignoring the bloodstains that covered his own entire body

For a moment Tim could not decide what he should do. He wasn't sure if the body he was in knew how to fight, and he couldn't have focused more attention on himself, and it wasn't clear if this man would have left the crying woman alive if he ran away

In short, he had to be kidnapped...

Damn it...

From the moment they left the door, if you threw an injection just half an hour ago it wouldn't fall out and right now there wasn't even a single person in the bazaar, Tim felt the feeling of tension in his stomach grow even greater, and he turned his eyes to the man who continued to carry him without saying a single word

He was looking too calm for someone who had just put five people through a coffin

And he was exuding a familiar aura...

Tim puckered his lips and did the only thing he could do at that moment, quickly threw his hand towards the mask that hid the face

He could tell from the instantly stiffening body that the young man had guessed his movement, but after receiving no reaction, he put the item down and was confronted with a face from which he understood where the feeling of familiarity came from

Dick was the same in every sense, except that his eyes, which were normally blue, were yellow. There was even a scratch mark starting from under his lip and extending to the tip of his nose that he received on the last mission, and this brought to Tim's mind the hypothesis of bodies with the same characteristics

Of course, yellow eyes spoiled the job a lot, but the story about the Court of Owls in Bruce's time and the weapons they created, called Talons, was not so surprising as the result

So the Dick Grayson of this universe must be a Talon

The question is, what was the task of the Court of Owls in this universe?

Since he was squinting and not pulling his suspicious gaze away, the fingers on his body have been getting tighter and tighter, reminding him again of the fact that Tim had to say something

Dick seemed to be in control, so it might have been wrong to call him Talon, while the name Richard had never attracted him, and he didn't think he wanted to be called that right now

Wait, in this universe, was his name even Tim?

He started gritting his teeth, his nerves were starting to break down

Why was the summary of his life story impossible to decipher before traveling between universes?

His luckiest bet would be to call out like he always does, so he opened his lips and asked while praying for everything to go normally and to get some more answers from inside

'Dick, what's going on?'

None of the things he wanted happened. Hearing his own name, his older brother frowned and then took Tim into one of the alleyways, hitting him to the wall. Due to the effect of the impact, before he was even allowed to hold his back, a sword was held to his throat

Well, it must be the wrong decision to say Dick and right now he was going to be killed here

He was the only one who did not join this caravan on his family anyway so Tim did not feel betrayed and he knows this is not a good thing...

He looked around and tried to find something to help him defend himself, but the place was so deserted that he could even see the flying dust wheel

He took a deep breath and looked into Dick's yellow eyes

Tim hope that he wouldn't upset the Dick of his time too much with being dead

Well, who was he kidding, if anything happened to Tim, Dick would make life hell for everyone and tried to come here to take his revenge

In the battle of glances between the two, the big body opposite him must had seen something that, the sharp tool was slowly lowered and inserted into the scabbard

'You're not my Timmy, but you also are in a way?'

Although he didn't know how he understood, he shook his head up and down to get rid of this situation and felt his own eyes begin to fill up on the sad looks he received

Dick has always had a structure that destroys his walls, and Tim would not feel the need to hide his feelings next to him

A hand was extended to him, and Tim took a deep breath, looking at the joined fingers

Although it goes against everything he was taught, he chose to trust Dick

Because no matter what, Dick was the center of his life and Dick had never let down his trust

But it wasn't his own Dick he was facing...

With the needle-style tool pressed against his neck, he felt a tremor that instantly entered his body and a decrease in the ability to move in his legs. Just before he fell, arms were wrapped around his waist and his head was pressed to the point where the non-beating heart was located

Tim realized that tears were forming from the salt water coming towards his lips, and although he wanted to talk, he couldn't, so he made a little whimpering sound

The body holding him stroked his hair and started to walk back the way they had just passed

He saw that the woman, who he thought was helping him for only a few seconds, took a bag of gold from Dick and retreated

'Long live our king'

Oh would you look at that...

The real owner of the body was trying to escape from Dick himself...

Nightwing was in the watchtower, cradled and held the Tim, who was having difficulty controlling himself. He stroked the body to calm him down and then he fixed his eyes on the magic item in front of him with frowning eyebrows

The person standing close to sleeping on his chest right now was not his own Timmy. Although everyone diagnosed it as stupor under the influence of magic and went back to work, Dick knew much better

And Tim couldn't go back to his own body, just as it was done to the body in front of him, so someone in the place where he is now tried to cut off the wings of his little bird

He made a sound like a snarl between his lips. For years, he had tried to get his little baby into his cage voluntarily, and now, when he was so close to his request, someone was poking at his work

Faye made herself at home with a book of ghost stories and some vintage pulp magazines I keep on hand for October evenings on my back porch. After a long silence (roughly an hour) I mentioned that, re: alternative healing, at the hospital where I work there's an emphasis on evidence-based medicine. Empirical science and whatnot.

Yep, Faye is one tough cookie. And she's not whistling Dixie when she uses the term "alternative."

Has a little bag of carved jade runes in her briefcase. Tarot. Planchette. Keeps miniature black candles in an old Altoids tin. Her notes are written in hieroglyphics with a quill.

Among other keepsakes in that briefcase was a crumpled photo of a man "somewhere in Yugoslavia, 1945" whom she swears is her grandfather and fought the fascists; he's got a beat-up Enfield slung over his shoulder and wears a partisan scarf, so maybe so. That photo and her Eastern Bloc accent make Faye's claim to be born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, seem slightly off bubble.

But I do love that she carries in a tiny wicker basket her treasured pet hedgehog, Mr. Brush. He's a well behaved and endlessly curious little gnome, so I let him have the run of my porch during the visit.

Faye lit one of those candles, which, after three hours, was still not a quarter-inch shorter than when match met wick. I told Faye that her perpetual candle was one of the most amazing devices I'd ever seen.

"Infinity is a constant illusion," she sighed. "But we can always dream about forever."

"I see what you did with that sentence construction," I replied." "Constant with infinity. Always with forever. Is your incantation redundant, tautological, or just magical?"

"Look at you catching the subtle clues, inspector," she said. "But I'm not the local witch, even in October."

"Well you kind of are," I said, then scooped up Mr. Brush and rubbed his belly. "You have the cutest little familiar in town."

The greenhouse clock stuck midnight. Mr. Brush made a happy clucking sound. Faye pinched out the candle.

"You should give that a rest, Dave. Especially in October."

She calls me Dave. Did I mention that she's gorgeous?

By the Grace Of [Sorcerer Rogier x Fem!Tarnished] - Chapter Eight

Summary: Knowledge shared is knowledge gained, or so they say. Delia and Rogier both have some knowledge to share, and some little truths to get off their chests.

Author’s Notes: 1.2K words! Enter the true plot of the fix-it. Just a bit of out-of place/alternate dialogue here for flow purposes. Now, if you’re reading this and thinking “Nightingale, the thing you’re saying DOES exist, there’s your fix!”, you are correct! However, as I writer, I must say “Too easy. Everyone must suffer.” Things are gonna get worse before they get better. Also, technically speaking the items in question are late(ish) game so this is my justification for using them.

“This… is a black knifeprint!” Rogier’s hands trembled slightly as he reached for it. Delia laid it carefully on his outstretched palms, smiling to herself.

“I can scarcely believe you managed to get your hands on this! You recall our conversation about the Night of the Black Knives, yes?” He looked up at her, too briefly to see her nod before he went on excitedly. “They say the assassins who carried out the deed were scions of the Eternal City. A group entirely of women, arrayed in armor of silver under cloaks which fooled the eye.”

He stopped then, eyes fixed on her armor. “I see.” He reached out to run his fingers over the material of the cloak where it parted at her chest. So enthralled was he that he didn’t notice Delia’s sharp intake of breath. “Fascinating,” he breathed.

“So I was wrong,” she joked, a little breathless. He hummed, looking up distractedly. “You’re more interested in the armor.”

Rogier chuckled, jerking his hand back with an awkwardness that indicated he had only just realized where it had been. He cleared his throat.

“Yes, well, it is quite curious. The knives they wielded though, were imparted with the power of the Rune of Death through sinister rite.”

He rested the knifeprint on the bench beside him and took her hands. Delia felt her cheeks heat. She liked this habit of his. “Please, I beg of you, lend me the knifeprint for a time. I'd love nothing more than to tease out its secrets. Though only a fragment, a very specific ritual had to be performed to impart the power of the Rune of Death. Traces of the one who performed the rite are sure to remain in the imprint…”

He offered a wry, self-deprecating smile. “Half my body has been suffused with Death. I'm certain it will help me see.”

Delia’s stomach plummeted with that morbid thought. “Can’t anything be done?”

He hesitated. She’d been expecting an immediate rebuffal.

“No,” he began, but she cut him off. She tugged on his hands, upsetting his balance.

“You know something, don’t you?” He looked away. “Rogier, tell me!” she urged. She squeezed his hands when he didn’t respond.

He briefly met her gaze before lowering his eyes again. “There’s no guarantee that-”

“I don’t care,” hissed Delia. She reached up to his cheeks, lifting his head and forcing him to hold her gaze. “It’s a chance. Tell me.”

Rogier swallowed, hard. “In the tomes you’ve brought me, there are various cookbooks. I’ve found recipes for boluses, medicinal concoctions used in these lands. They’re meant to cleanse the conditions one finds oneself in here.”

“And they work?” Delia asked breathlessly.

Rogier hesitated. “I don’t know. I’ve never used them. And… I’ve found no recipe for anything that cures Death Blight.”

Delia dropped her head, squeezing her eyes shut. Of course not. That would be too easy.

“And I’m no healer. But,” Rogier went on haltingly. “I did find a recipe for boluses meant to cleanse the Scarlet Rot.” Delia looked at him blankly. “It’s… a bit closer in its properties to Death Blight than to poison, or blood loss, or sleep magic.” Delia nodded, waiting for him to continue. He didn’t.

“I don’t know what that means,” she admitted softly. Her hands had loosened on his cheeks, no longer keeping his gaze fixed on her. He closed his eyes, but she felt the light pressure as he leaned into her touch.

“I don’t want to get our hopes up,” he murmured. “But… if the Scarlet Rot can be cured…”

“Then maybe this can, too.”

He nodded, smooth cheeks rubbing against her calloused fingertips. “Maybe,” he whispered.

“Well, you can consider my hopes well and truly up,” Delia teased. The look Rogier flashed her was in turns astonished, shyly pleased, and chagrined.

“I have no way of getting ingredients to test,” he began.

“I’ll get them for you.”

“As I said, I’m no healer-”

“But you’re brilliant.” She shook his head lightly between her hands. His cheeks were burning beneath her palms

Rogier reached up to lay his hands over hers. “It could be dangerous.”

“I don’t care.”

She leaned forward, wrapping her arms around his neck and letting her body sag against his. When he didn’t flinch, when his arms came up around her, she let herself relax.

“I’ll bring you everything you need.”

“I care. And I don’t know what I need,” he grumbled.

“Then I’ll bring you cookbooks and apothecary’s notes until you know.”

“And where do you intend to find these cookbooks and apothecary’s notes?” He’d leaned back against the wall, pulling her with him. She lay awkwardly against his legs, but he didn’t seem to mind and she couldn’t bring herself to care.

“I’ve made friends with some of the merchants,” she mused. “I’m sure someone can point me in the right direction.”

“Hmm. And how good are these friends?”

She looked up. “Does it matter?”

Rogier didn’t answer right away, but his heart sped against her chest. “It matters,” he said softly. There was a long silence before he reached up to stroke her cheek, gently skirting the cut along it. “I want you safe.”

“Well, I want you whole and hale.” Delia pulled herself sideways to sit beside him. She snorted softly. “Besides, I’m not sure anywhere is safe, anymore.”

“All the same.” He seemed to be struggling to put his thoughts into words. Delia remained silent, watching him out of the corner of her eye.

“Why… have you gone to such troubles to help me?”

She blinked. “What do you mean?”

He shifted uncomfortably. “I mean I don’t see what you stand to gain by helping me. When we first met, at Stormveil, if you’d asked me to come along back then, I would’ve understood.” He smiled wistfully. “I think we would have made a formidable pair, gallivanting about slaying kings and gods.”

His face crumpled, fingers digging into the fabric at his lap.

“But now I’m in this sorry state. One little mishap, and now I can’t move.” His face twisted in a flash of- what, self-loathing?- that he tried to mask. “As you might guess, it’s far from ideal… and I fail to see what use I am to you like this.”

Delia felt a hot flare of anger that he might think she was only using him. She watched Rogier’s expression waver, shifting between suspicion and despair and bitterness and… hope. She breathed out, tamping down her irritation with some effort.

“Maybe you’re not of any particular use to me,” she said, more sharply than she’d intended. He flinched. “Maybe I just like you,” she rushed on. She stood to pace toward the railing, leaning against it and dropping her head.

“I just enjoy your company,” she admitted softly. She cleared her throat and went on, stronger than before. “And even if I didn’t, I hate to see needless suffering.”

She felt a light touch at the back of her knee and turned to see Rogier leaning forward. He offered her a weak smile.

“Forgive me. And… forgive me for what I said last time you were here.” He looked pale, nervous. “I didn’t mean to insinuate… anything.” Delia almost laughed at his pained expression. Instead, she let a slow smile spread across her face.

“I know how you can make it up to me.”

In the movie, the white dragon people are known for special blood controlling the wind and the fire and having the wings. Especially the royal family.

About the wings, I understand, that is an acient sign in the white dragon race (also Van's father...?), in the TV version is only from Varie.

Are there a symbolism between White dragon/wings (inspired by japanese folklore?)? And the dragon Fossil in the movie...? I'd like to know more about White dragon people.

Hi! Recently I've translated a lot of movie materials, but surprisingly, there wasn't much wing lore. Plus, they are not 100% consistent. For example, movie novel provides some explanations but is not a carbon copy of the movie script and several things are different there, including some of the terminology. Therefore, it is up to you whether you accept its explanations.

The abilities Van, Dilandau, and Folken display in the movie (I assume this is what you mean by controlling the wind and fire) are called "sorcerous powers" in the novel. They are not exactly connected to (white) dragon clan or to the wings, it's just said some people are naturally born with them on Gaea. But yes, they are much stronger in the dragon clan. Dilandau's "personal guard" Chesta is also someone with that "sorcerous power", but his is of a different kind (telepathy and observing a distant scene with his "mind eye"). But sure, the creation of wind and fire definitely seem to be dragon clan related abilities.

About the origins of the dragon clan, this time, the movie audio dramas provide some explanations but they are rather vague. Basically, the clans are "followers" of the White and Black Dragon Gods, which are implied to be the fossilized dragons you see. Escaflowne and Alseides are also tied to the two dragon gods but it's all just mentioned in passing and not too specific. If you are new to it, one thing you can NOT count on is Escaflowne lore providing some clear, unambiguous explanation, sorry. The meaning of the wings is even less clear from either so I will not get into speculation here. Please wait for the translations to be published (they eventually will be) and we can discuss opinions then.

Regarding Japanese folklore , you can research tennin/tenshi (basically, a Japanese buddhist version of an angel) or tengu (winged legendary creatures) as winged humanoids in Japanese folklore. But I guess the closest match would be the O-Watatsumi or Ryuujin (in some sources they are the same) which is basically a dragon deity that can take human form. O-Watatsumi rules over waters and Ryuujin is said to rule over the wind and storm (and medicine). Through his daughter who married a human, Ryuujin became the ancestor of the imperial line in Japan. If you read about the legends, several things will sound familiar or reminiscent of the Esca lore in general. The dragon god with land creating abilities, the divine/dragon ancestry of the ruler, the woman of the divine/dragon blood falling for a human, there are magical/powerful jewels present (like the pendant, the energist), you note connections to Jeture and Escaflowne (the god) from the series, etc. Ryuujin is even alternatively named Ryuu-ou, yes, Dragon King (or King Dragon). And there's more dragon gods than just him! It makes me wish there was a book just about the legends centered around this dragon myth. If I can get my hands on some book that I can use I may put together a more exhaustive list of similarities/references.

I don't think the human form of Ryuujin is traditionally depicted with wings though, but I'm not an expert. Dragons with feathery wings I think you only get in the legendary creatures that are composites between dragon and other animals, such as Chinese Pixiu or Ying Lung, and Japanese Hai-Riyo. I feel like this connection between dragon and person having angel-like wings could be just Escaflowne lore where the movie draws from the series itself (and where the series draws from was not the question).

So, I guess that's it from me. Maybe there's some tidbits in the movie artbook as well but tbh I didn't check, I have my hands full with the translations I still need to finish ^^;

Short summary of Andrew Hussie‘s “Wizardy Herbert and the Mobius Slipknot”

Oasis "Cauchemar" Nadrama, 28/03/2023 This is a short summary of an unfinished novel written by Hussie in the 2000s. We do not know precisely when they started the text, but we do know the file was last saved 07/27/2008. The following summary leaves out some significant characters and events, shifts various scenes around and merges reveals for the sake of overall clarity. ‘ 1] A nightmare of a summer camp The young boy WIZARDY HERBERT hates fun and magic; consequently, the shady old magician THUNDLESHICK convinces his parents, the EGGWOODS, to send him to a "magical summer camp" under the pretense of an accounting camp. Herbert is the only remaining child of the Eggwood family, since his brothers Louis and Seymour both disappeared. At the gathering, June 5 2004, Thundleshick takes the entire crowd of kids away to another realm, A WORLD OF ETERNAL SUMMER. He then steals all of their luggage (camouflaging his mischief with apparent destruction) before retreating alone in his castle. The kids are attacked by SLURPENOOK DRONES, giant black skeletons with glowing green entrails, which capture them and take them back to FORT SLURPENOOK, an aircraft carrier surrounded by a military fleet, all part of the same faction, in the middle of a lava ocean. In Fort Slurpenook, the malevolent camp councilor SLINUS MARLEVORT reduces the children to slavery. Herbert escapes the skeletons, along with BEATRIX, a girl his age who approached him back on Earth. Little does he know that Beatrix searched for him for years before summer camp. For Herbert and Beatrix are both afflicted with memory issues: they do not remember anything before Christmas of 1998. The duo makes the acquaintance of various other children and teenagers, most importantly GRANT and RUSSET. Grant is a late teenager, around 17 years old, with ulterior motives. Russet is a boy close to their age, 14, alternating between two personalities. One of the Russets is incredibly joyful, elegant and magically skilled, while the other one is depressed, clumsy and cannot use any kind of spell. Distrusting of Grant, Beatrix parts company with the older boy, and also breaks the spell he established to be able to find her, the RUSSIAN DOLL MAGIC. She reunites with Herbert and Russet in the gigantic underground bunker named FORT CROSSNEST where they find COUNCILOR CARMEN, an unhinged character who seems to keep talking to herself, but in fact quarrels with telepathic messages from an yet-unknown entity. Carmen tells the kids they can do CAMP QUESTS to obtain MERIT BADGES and then exchange them for a return ticket for Earth. ‘ ‘ 2] Merit badges and magical locket In the course of the story, Beatrix is attacked by various HUMANIMAL HYBRIDS all sent by Marlevort. They all less interested in the young girl and more in her artifact, a circular locket called the MOBIUS SLIPKNOT. Herbert, despising magic and seemingly incompatible with mystical forces altogether, equips himself with a handgun before starting the camp quests. With the help of Russet and Beatrix, he obtains a large bag of badges, which should be enough to buy a dozen trips back to normalcy. Beatrix leaves Fort Crossnest to find back Grant by reestablishing the Russian doll link. She wants to get the medicine he's carrying for Russet. But right after Beatrix departs, Herbert discovers she's been stalking him! Feeling betrayed, he betrays her in turn, breaking the doll spell once again. This action leaves Beatrix in danger in front of a mighty humanimal, a raging creature destroying the urban environment of FORT PIZZAHUT. Luckily, Beatrix reunites with Grant, other surviving kids, and they escape with their life, using the ship of the Pizzahut faction to go back to Fort Crossnest. Herbert ends up disappointed when reaching Thundleshick in his castle, for the old magician gives him TOILET PAPER in exchange of a preposterous amount of badges, and then Herbert obtains some CLARIFYING POTION to help him see THE TRUTH. Thundleshick, as dishonest as ever, get rid of Herbert by opening a trap door. Herbert falls in the catacombs of the castle, where he finds back his stolen luggage, containing a WEIRD BOOK WITH THE TITLE BLACKENED. It is VOLUME 1. Herbert's book is similar to the one that Marlevort, gravely wounded after a short-lived Slurpenook mutiny, picks up in his safe. This one book is VOLUME 7. Marlevort reads part of the book in order to summon another version of himself, and then transfers his mind in it. ‘ ‘ 3] The magical books Unable to reach Fort Crossnest because of an unpractical water levels mechanism, Herbert tries out a different underground passage which leads him to a version of the WHITE HOUSE covered in vines. In there, he seems to active an OBSCURE CONTAINER; in the container, there is a DARK STONE STATUE. A COUNTDOWN starts. Herbert then accidentally splashes some of the clarifying potion on the weird book and see the title of the text is… "WIZARDY HERBERT". The world of eternal summer and the various characters ALL SEEM TO COME FROM THESE NOVELS, the seven-books series "Wizardy Herbert" made by the young LOUIS EGGWOOD. In admiration of his teenage friend JAMAL K. ROWLING, Louis inadvertantly ripped off the "Harry Potter" series written by Jamal with this creation: he invented a magical summer camp with FOUR FORTS in lieu of the Hogwarts Houses and Allotment Socks replacing the Sorting Hat. Russet picks up the MOBIAN SLIPKNOT in Beatrix's room and, using doll magic, reaches Thundleshick's castle. Russet confesses that he is tormented by his homosexuality; Thundleshick promises to help him out but tricks him into a coma before robbing him and leaving him to the Slurpenook Drones. ‘ ‘ 4] Messages from another you Back to Fort Crossnest, Herbert shows Grant and Beatrix a surprising discovery: a VHS tape carrying a message from someone who seems to be "Future Herbert". But time travel is indicated as impossible in this universe, so it is probably OLDER HERBERT, another version of Herbert invoked from the "Wizardy Herbert" books, just like Marlevort is able to summon other Marlevorts. We learn that back in Christmas 1998, Beatrix's first memories on Earth are seeing an OLDER BEATRIX entrusting her with the Mobius Slipknot before being possessed by an ominous prophecy of Marlevort's reign and dying from a violent disease. In the same winter night, Herbert's first memories on Earth are carrying an unkown cadaver and burying him outside of the family house with his brother Seymour. The VHS message from Older Herbert indicates that the MOBIUS SLIPKNOT is infinitely important, that Marlevort is a huge threat and that everyone is about to die. Herbert, Beatrix and Grant barely have time to digest all of the information before Beatrix is abducted by the most powerful and dangerous humanimal yet, the psychic dog-man hybrid PYCROFT. This entity was the one who communicated with Carmen's mind previously. In the fight against Pycroft, Grant accidentally KILLS an innocent little kid. He hides the tragedy from his friends. Pycroft manages to take Beatrix back to Fort Slurpenook. Beatrix and Russet are reunited in a Slurpenook cell. Russet confesses his desire to kiss Beatrix. She meets his lips... but Russet then fully realizes he is gay. Herbert and Grant then borrow a magical F-16 plane from a near-abandoned airport and head for the lava sea. Time to rescue Beatrix! ‘ ‘ 5] Magical wars In the aircraft on its way to Fort Slurpenook, Grant explains part of the history of this world: from Earth, in the eighties, RONALD REAGAN, THE REPUBLICAN USA PRESIDENT, hijacked the very workings of the summer world, the magical summer camp and its trials, and distorted it to engage Russia in a FULL BLOWN THAUMATURGICAL WAR. The conflict devolved into the local equivalent to a nuclear war, then an apocalypse which engulfed all of the mystical realm. And Marlevort built his empire on the ruins. The aerial battle between the F-16 and the Slurpenook fleet starts well, Herbert's skill with weapons uniting with Grant's magical talent, but turns to COMPLETE DEFEAT for our heroes when Marlevort joins the fight. The evil councilor is about to kill Herbert when, with the unexpected telepathic help of the humanimal Pycroft, Herbert teleports away. Grant manages to land on Fort Slurpenook and to find the cell where his friends are kept captive. He frees them, then convinces Russet to give him the Mobius Slipknot… and disappears with the precious artifact. Beatrix and Russet are left to face Marlevort alone. ‘ ‘ 6] The last answers Doll magic has brought Herbert to Thundleshick's castle. There, Herbert finally gets some answers from the old wizard: - Marlevort is the real power directing all of the summer camp and Thundleshick is his servant. - The Mobius Slipknot is an artifact able to IMMERSE ITSELF AS WELL AS HUMANS FROM THE REAL EARTH INTO BOOKS OF FICTION. Once in the diegesis, both the Slipknot and the human assume different appearances, fit for the local setting. The human being replaces a character from the story, and is stripped from almost all their previous memories. - The Slipknot is also able to EXTRACT FICTIONAL CHARACTERS from novels, repeatedly. - When Seymour Eggwood disappeared from Earth, he was reincarnated into Thundleshick. Thundleshick is Herbert's own brother! After some heated discussion, Seymour Thundleshick teleports Herbert in the sewers of the castle. There, Herbert finds the skeleton of his other brother, as well as the author of the "Wizardy Herbert" books. A SMALL CLAY PARASITE escapes the skull and forces itself in Herbert's ear. He falls inconscious. Meanwhile, on Earth, Ronald Reagan dies. In the world of eternal summer, the countdown on the OBSCURE CONTAINER reaches zero, releasing a SMALL CLAY PARASITE on the MANNEQUIN OF DARK STONE. The parasite merges with the larger statue, which becomes flesh: RONALD REAGAN REBORN, strong, muscular. Reagan, in a spotless suit, starts wandering the world and effortlessly killing extremely creatures. He seems to be the incarnation of power, and the main antagonist.

I recalled seeing some au on reddit about a massive crossover between magical girl shows (all of the hopeful and the grimdark ones).

It's about how an interdimensional-eldritch Evil is threatening to destroy their worlds (not sure if this part is correct or not, I haven't found it again to refresh my memories), which lead them to unite together in order to fight against it.

While the main posts themself are pretty awsome, the comment sections are like: "all magical girls in one crossover!? That would be like bullying the BBEGs!"

The commentors just kept discussing with each other about how by allowing all Magical Girls to unite, the BBEGs were screwed the moment they decided to be the Bad Guys. One of them mention how some of the girl would even make a competition out of beating up the Monsters (I think it was between Hibiki (Symphogear) and Cure Black).

I remembered just *wheezing* to myself reading a comment about how the BBEGs might appear extremely threatening, but not 10 mins into the battle they would be crying and begging to be spared. And then these Evil Lads would run away and the rest of the story would just be the girls bonding with each other while hunting the BBEGs along with their monsters down.

Another redditor commented that the hunting would be mostly for the more violent MGs, as those like the Sailor Senshi would prefer another, more peaceful adventure of their own.

(Personally, I don't think any MGs would pass the chance to chase the bad guys down)

If some BBEGs unluckily attacks Wondaria, would the same curb-stomp battle happen? Or would things be even worse for these Evils?

That's highly unlikely, considering that Wondaria operates on Wakanda rules (read: hidden from the entire Multiverse)...

...however, Wondaria has two alternatives when dealing with bad guys:

If they're a victim that was forced to work for the villain, they recieve treatment by the WBMR, and are given basic stuff, such as clothes, housing, food, medicine, hygienc products and the like;

If they're the villain in question, their crimes are catalogued and exposed by the Society of Wonder, sentenced guilty, trapped in a crystal prison, and then banished to the barren dimension of Oblivia.
