If you're still interested in what Quan did get to on the bad dad poll, he let his wife, Ethlyn talk him into taking along their toddler daugther, Altenna, with them on the battlfield. This resulted in Altenna getting kidnapped when Quan and his wife were killed.
Really though in my opinion, Quan is an ok dad, its ruling he's bad at it.
I have since learned about the “bringing a toddler to a battelfield” thing and like. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT (the deeprealms are like an over correction of this. We want to keep our kids away from the war so we’re going to put them in a hyperbolic time chamber)
As for “good dads but shit rulers,” I think m Chrom’s dad is notably also a shit dad but I’m with you on Morion
Though now I want one of the extreme examples of someone who’s like a really horrible ruler but dotes on his kids so much and is so proud of them and is pissed if you hurt them. Like idk Garon but he’s also actually a really good and doting father
Idk I’m rambling

Tine/Altenna; flying
(Thank you Dem 😭)
Tine isn’t nervous about flying: during down time while in the Liberation army, when Altena asked if anyone wanted to go on patrol with her, she would volunteer happily.
Altena sees flying as second nature, but when they are together Tine comments that she likes the views and perspective flying brings.
“Everything seems so small from here.” Tine would say, and though they wouldn’t talk too much about why at the time, Altena could understand what she meant.
Altena promises to teach her how to fly with her own mount after the war, gifting her a Wyvern hatchling. Tine becomes a skilled Wyvern rider and there are folk ballads about the two flying together in both Grannvale and Thracia.

Do you have female characters that you like or find good in FE.
For sure, I have females I like! They tend not to be my favorites in FE (or in a lot of media in general because females often don't get written with the same complexity as males not everything can be Talentless Nana), but I don't have an empty void where females in FE are concerned thankfully.
And since you asked for FE in general, I'm just gonna go for it and list who I like or find good (two different lists because they might be good characters but just not my personal preference of character).
disclaimer: most of the jugdral loc names are obnoxious so i willfully ignore them or they're just too obnoxious for me to actually remember what they are/how to spell them. i am also elderly, so i mainly use the names i am used to from a long time before jugdral loc was even remotely a thing. bear with me kiddos)
Like:
does kris count (FE12)
Ethlin/Ethlyn (FE4)
Fury/Erinys (FE4)
Mahnya (FE4)
Tiltyu/Tailtiu (FE4)
Nanna (FE4/FE5)
Leen/Lene (FE4)
Tinny (FE4)
Linda (Tinny's replacement) (FE4)
Rahna (FE4) (Levin's mom)
Ninian (FE7)
Eirika (FE8)
Tana (FE8)
Marcia (FE9/10)
does byleth technically count too doh
Annette
Dorothea (i know randomnameless is shaming me right now)
Rhea
Flayn
Hapi
Celine (when she's not talking abt fckn tea in almost all of her supports...)
Yunaka
Panette
Ivy
wait for it
wait
hold on
decision loading
fjorm from heroes is actually a nicely written female character
Good:
Sheeda/Caeda (FE1/3/11/12 lol)
Tiki (FE1/3/11/12/13 l e l)
Ayra (FE4)
Lachesis (mostly lol, like aside from ditching her family to find her son who was safe elsewhere with three, sometimes four (lol dragon dad is inconsistent) very capable people) (FE4)
Mana (Lana's replacement) (FE4)
Lakche/Larcei (FE4)
Patty (FE4)
Laylea (Leen's replacement, I'm just more bias toward Leen) (FE4)
Altenna (FE4)
Ishtar (FE4)
Hilda (in the sense of being a good actual villain who killing is very fun) (FE4)
Lilina (FE6)
Guinivere (FE6)
Lyn (FE7) (just... not to the extent intsys nuts over)
Tethys (FE8)
Ismaire (FE8) (Joshua's mom)
Mist (FE9/10)
Elincia (FE9/10)
Sanaki (FE9/10, but shows a lot more character growth in FE10)
Jill (FE9/10)
Nephenee (FE9/10, more so FE10 as a better character)
Sigrun (FE9/10)
Lissa (FE13)
Lucina (FE13) (same as Lyn lol)
Azura (FE14)
Soleil (FE14)
manuela had potential rip
Judith
Timerra
Veronica (Heroes) (just... not the older books' version)
Henriette (Heroes)
Eir (Heroes)
and after eir that was the end of even remotely decent heroes writing as i knew it
i hope heiðr turns out okay bc i kind of like her for now and she's not as bad as the rest of literally everything in that section of the story
If I didn't list someone here it doesn't mean they're a terrible character or that I despise them or anything (they're not even necessarily bad imo), but a lot of them are pretty shallow or used like a plot gimmick. ALSO, I might like them but that doesn't mean that they were written particularly well or felt standout or anything (like, I like Cordelia but I didn't list her because it's not a very strong attachment and it's a very mild like).
In some cases for "good" that aren't in like, it's more because they're not a favorite female (like Timerra, who I like enough but I had other females I enjoyed more).
edit: if you're wondering why i didn't list sov it's bc i haven't played it and gaiden's version of the characters is about as nonexistent as fe5, hence the lack of fe2 and fe5 (who weren't present in fe4 as well) characters
#DCB Ask#the FE4 bias is very very very apparent in this ask lmfao#but hey it's not my fault it wrote its females better than the other games lel

When did you start shipping Julius and Altenna?
Uhh, I think it was 2016 or 17. I honestly don't remember when. I just know how it happened. While I am like the main person who ships them, I am NOT the creator of the ship.

Turns out I already had a post about chapter 9 that has been languishing in my drafts since January 2020.
Not sure why I never posted this--probably embarrassment over giving up two turns into the next chapter. Anyway:
Glad that the narration (and Seliph and Lewyn’s dialogue) brought up the question of why they were fighting and who they were fighting for, as they attack the one country on the continent that is not now and has never been under Grannvale rule. Not that it necessarily answered that question (beyond “they attacked us first” and “you can’t trust Travant”), but still, it was entirely missing from the first half of the game. (Will I ever stop dragging Sigurd for accidentally conquering most of western Jugdral? No, I will not.)
It’s also interesting that we’re two chapters from the end and the army hasn’t set foot in actual Grannvale yet. Though if this is a crusade to undo the wrongs of the previous generation, dismantling Grannvale imperialism one occupied territory at a time is a good way to start.
I have a surprising amount of feelings about the Thracian royal family, considering that one of them was a kidnapped child raised by her parents’ worst enemy. Arion trying to get Travant to be more patient with Altenna, Altenna trying to call Travant and Arion by their names instead of “Father” and “Brother” but slipping up repeatedly, Arion pretending to side with Travant but actually agreeing with Altenna (though not enough to lay down his arms when it really mattered), Travant handing the Heaven Lance to Arion and flying off to get himself killed when he hears of Altenna’s defection... yeah. Good stuff.
Hanibal seems like a good guy, even if he was an absolute nightmare to recruit.
Ngl, I was shocked when the reinforcements Arvis had supposedly promised actually showed up, because the last time he’d promised to send reinforcements was when he hung Reptor out to dry.
All of the sibling interactions are great, but I want more cousin interactions. Let the Jungby kids talk to each other!
“Guess I’ll die.” -Travant, probably
When Julius showed up to save Ishtar last chapter, I assumed it was because he didn’t want his fiancée to die. Now I’m very, very worried about why he’s collecting almost-dead villains.
I’ve had the Thracian theme music stuck in my head for two days straight.
And from the current (Feb 2023) playthough:
I’m very fond of the chapter intro showing us Travant dashing from castle to castle on his wyvern to check in on his captains. It feels like he’s putting in a lot more effort than most of the bosses. And his theme music is great.
So I ended Chapter 7 with Julia at level 9 and was worried I wouldn’t be able to get her to change class before the opening of chapter 10. Anyway, she grew eleven levels in Chapter 8 (as I realized that having her heal people is a guaranteed 20 exp every turn, and she got three free levels from rescuing villagers), and then swept the arena (growing another two levels) after changing class, so. She’s scary now. She’s already doing 50+ damage to everyone who isn’t a mage, can’t wait to see what happens when she gets her holy weapon. (Update from the end of the chapter: she’s level 26 now).
And Seliph went from level 12 to level 19 over the course of this chapter--still a little behind where I’d like him to be, but considering how much I’d neglected him in favor of Julia it’s not bad.
The recruiting Altenna/recruiting Hanibal/defeating Travant sequence was frustrating, to put it mildly. I ended up doing it basically backwards (killing Travant before recruiting Hannibal so that at least Hanibal would stop attacking me, then sticking a unit on the castle entrance when he ran off to get reinforcements, which trapped him in there until I could capture the other castle to get Corpul). It wasn’t pretty, but it worked. Eventually.
Killed Travant with Finn, mostly because he was the only other unit within range, but it felt fitting.
I forgot to get a screenshot to add to the Chapter 5 collection, but Altenna saying that she could bring Arion around if she only had a little more time... ouch.
And Arion insisting on fighting on because it’s his family’s fate... Love characters who know they’ve been doomed from the beginning. Oh, this game.
Once again had a lucky escape due to baffling AI choices, as Travant’s squadron that had parked on top of Seliph and Julia all decided to go throw javelins at Larcei instead. I think one of them actually hit her.
All of the reunion conversations are really getting me this time around, but Finn and Altenna’s almost made me cry. Between him crying and admitting he’d never thought to look for her (when she was just the next country over!) because he was sure she was dead, and her reminiscing about following him around as a kid... yeah. This really is the Feelings About Altenna’s Families chapter.
Next up: the two chapters I have never played! This will be fine!

The Grannvale waltz Sigurd taught her was not so different from the Adrestrian court dances... at least the ones Rhea recalled, for it had been some time since an emissary of the church had entered Enbarr.
Still, it feels like a return to form standing across from Sigurd (despite the awkward moment when neither seems aware the music has started) and though the chords were perhaps more fast paced than Rhea had expected she thinks they did quite well all things considered.
You always pick such sticklers Air. Change it up a bit!
You change too much! Look at that, it's -
Fun. Rhea, realizes, as the end of the music comes up and amid the judges chattering; the women across from them have a flush on their cheeks different from that of training or simple victory, but from the enjoyment of trying something new.
"My," Rhea comments to Sigurd as the results come in, "I had not expected that but I cannot deny our opponents were quite the duo. Apologies for holding you back, my friend, but I look forward to seeing where those two go next." [Final scores: 13 to 16. Altenna and Nanna advance to the next round!]
Just Dance 2023
White Heron Cup starter for @hosannan @bxldrsdraumar @aurheatum
Entering the contest seemed like a great idea at first. After her embarrassing defeats at arm wrestling and meatball eating, this could give her the chance to prove to Linus that she isn't just some chump. Nanna is probably the most elegant and graceful person she knows. With her as a partner, she's sure to have a leg up in winning, even if she herself is hardly a dancer.
Then she learns who they will be dancing against and her confidence dissipates almost immediately. Sigurd, legendary hero and her mother's brother, partnered with the leader of Fódlan's religion. Two figures very much larger than life. The bit of time she had spent practicing with Nanna beforehand was nowhere near enough time to prepare for this.
But she's not about to back down!
"Well," she turns to Nanna with a nod, "let's do this." She offers her hand and the two Thracians begin the dance they had been working on. It's a lively dance but nothing overly complex. They'd only had a short time to prepare something, after all.
Step to the left. Clap. Turn. Step to the right. Clap.
It isn't terribly difficult but Altena finds herself watching Nanna a bit too closely trying to copy her movements. She's out of sync, just slightly behind. If she had just been more confident in memorizing the steps, she'd have had it down.
Style: 6, Choreography: 2, Technique: 8, Total: 16

[FE] Retro
Having played both newer and classic FE games, I can safely say the newer titles could draw inspiration from retro design choices, particularly when it comes to females. Example below the cut, drawn by the same artist.
Now, I’m just gonna say this straight away: I have some very mixed feelings on Camilla’s appearance.
The best things about Camilla’s appearance are her hair and palette, in my opinion. I’ve always had a soft spot for long wavy hair, and Camilla is no exception. Her soft yet refined face has always appealed to me as well. That’s where the positives end. Bluntly, how does part of that armor even work? From what I’ve gathered, she wears a strapless bustier with some kind of armored corset over her stomach. I’m not even going to mention the strap. We don’t talk about the strap. However, the battle panties are just downright infuriating, because how in the nine circles of Hell is this woman going to protect her thighs and butt from chafing? Christ, I can only imagine how painful that must be.
Now, want an example of how to design a lady Wyvern Rider?
Look no further than Altena. The most significant difference between Camilla and Altena, if you ask me, is that Altena’s attire is straightforward and looks entirely plausible. Say what you will bout the spaulders, but at least Altena adequately protects her body from any such easily preventable injuries as chafing. And guess what? Altena looks attractive and absolutely gorgeous while still wearing clothing suitable for combat.
IntSys, please. Return to your roots for FE16 and potentially future games. You’ve got some wonderful designs going on, and your choices were both sensible and visually appealing.
Art by Wada Sachiko. Bless her soul.

I got to talking with some friends about how cute the smol brown (aka Leaf from Genealogy) was, and one thing led to another so have some cute smol with his amazing big sister (Altenna).
Altenna woke up suddenly in the middle of the night. She tensed for a moment- even as young as she was she worried when someone came in unannounced- but relaxed when the door opened a tiny bit and she saw a tiny head with brown hair peak in.
“Leaf?” She called out quietly.
“‘tenna? Can I stay? Mamma an’ pappa aren’ home,” he said in a small voice.
She just patted the space next to her as an answer. Her brother came in fully, closing the door and dragging his blanket with him as he climbed up next to his big sister.
Altenna didn’t ask what brought him here. Sometimes he just got scared of something or had a nightmare and didn’t want to be alone. Usually he went to their parents, but anytime that they were gone he went to stay with her.
She didn’t mind though. Her brother was too sweet, always worried about the people he loved. Her nurse told her that she shouldn’t always indulge him, but she couldn’t help it, he was just too precious.
Silently, she helped him situate the blankets around both of them, falling back to sleep while cuddling back when he hugged her.

I just like how IS basically took an axe to the whole “Oh Fjorm’s gonna die after Book 2” plot point because in hindsight she ended up becoming a more interesting character through Forging Bonds.
#fire emblem heroes#i decided to make this because i liked the fjorm and altenna convos#i really hope they put eir in these because she could use more friends
