this is skrew! he's the first character thats going in my catch-all universe, oddly enough. he's an animalien who somehow ended up on altearth, and he's kind of a menace but is really chill about it. he eats altearth animals and sees nothing weird about it

12th October: Tea or coffee while reading?

It depends on the time of day ^_^ When I read a book in the morning, it's always coffee ☕. But if I read a book after midday, then I'll have tea. Black tea, green tea, herbal tea - that depends on what mood I'm in 🍵. These days rooibos is my go-to tea.

Also I finished Dry the other day (I think it was mentioned in a Ruby Granger video and that's why I got it from the library). I enjoyed it because it was easy to read, but - and this will be totally weird - but I think the end could have been a bit sadder? I would have believed it. But I guess the sad part r.e. Kelton's family kind of hit hard the most.

LET'S GO VILLAIN NOVIS AU

Full Name: Unpronounceable to humans, but it translates to "Little Star Steelheart." Vital Sign is the name they use when acting as a super.

Gender and Sexuality: Agender, bisexual

Pronouns: They/them

Ethnicity/Species: Shapeshifter. They're from an alternate version of Earth where humans are extinct and the dominant species are shapeshifting slimes. They're able to mostly pass as human when they want to, though.

Birthplace and Birthdate: Altearth, sometime in the spring of 1985. They're not sure of the exact month due to timekeeping differences between species, but the year is accurate.

Guilty Pleasures: At this point, they actually enjoy kneecapping the humans who hurt others or who try to stop them. They used to see it as a necessary evil to keep the city alive, but now, it gives them some satisfaction. They've started seeing the face of the Beast in every enemy. It's almost satisfying to permanently disable the being that killed their friends, over and over again.

Phobias: The dark, death, letting their powers turn off, letting anyone else die.

What They Would Be Famous For: They're both famous and infamous for what they've done, which is stretching their life powers to their limits and doing what they can to stop death in the city. Rather infamously, this tends to involve mutating human bodies. If someone is about to die, Vital Sign's attempt to keep them alive can sometimes result in them becoming difficult to recognize as human. The same goes for when a human attempts to harm or kill another. All supervillains formerly in the city have either fled or have been permanently disabled by Vital Sign's power. Any attempt to stop them has failed.

What They Would Get Arrested For: Any of the above. However, as I said, no super has found a way to stop them yet. Their species naturally is a bit difficult to kill or capture, and the effect is intensified by Vital Sign's status as a Champion of Ark. A being pumped full of divine life magic is a difficult enemy to beat.

OC You Ship Them With: I don't think a volatile supervillain gone absolutely apeshit with power would really make a good partner. They need therapy :(

OC Most Likely To Murder Them: @pochitagaming's Bishop canonically kills them after Ark revokes their powers :(

Favorite Movie/Book Genre: They don't like to read or watch movies anymore.

Least Favorite Movie/Book Cliche: They don't understand why a character in a story would suddenly turn against their friends. They hate thinking about it. It reminds them too much of what Velli did.

Talents and/or Powers: They're a Champion of Ark, the Life deity of this world. She chose them following the death of most of their hero team. In addition to the shapeshifting they were born with, Ark's blessing grants them biomanipulation and the ability to sense life. When stretching the powers Ark gave them to the very limits, they're able to sense every life in the city, and remotely use their biomanipulation to heal or mutate any dying humans. Superhero or supervillain mutations require their physical presence, but they're fine with that.

Why Someone Might Love Them: Their determination to save everyone, as awful as the results are, is borne out of a sincere desire to keep anyone from having to experience grief again. They're tenacious, intelligent, loyal to those they love, and committed to their ideals.

Why Someone Might Hate Them: They're irrational, unyielding, and callous. Critically, although there is an altruistic element to their behavior, it's more about absolving themself from the deaths of Rose, Connie, and Joseph than it is about genuinely caring much about humanity. It's also what they see as their duty as a Champion. They're unwilling to acknowledge that they might be wrong or that they're hurting people with their actions.

How They Change: After Velli, the only other survivor of their team, along with the hero Red Butterfly, talks them down, they finally understand that what they've done is wrong. They still can't cope with the deaths and Velli's choice to murder supervillains, but at least they're not destroying themself with their powers anymore. They apologize, and Ark revokes their powers at their request, since their powers keep making their body mutate uncontrollably. They become softer, more willing to listen to others, but still unhealthy. Unfortunately, Bishop kills them before they're able to fully recover.

Why You Love Them: The whole character started as a thought experiment of "what kind of circumstances would turn Novis, an idealistic hero, into a villain?" To me, the answer would be "having Joseph, the only other person who survived and stayed on the team in canon, die in the same fight that Connie and Rose did." They're deeply traumatized and have no support system after Velli leaves to become a vigilante, and Ark eventually granting them power only makes it worse. I'm aware they're an extremely edgy character, but I relate to the fact that their grief made them become a person they never thought they would be. I feel bad for them, and even worse since their story got co-opted into the stories of Bishop and Red Butterfly. They're an extremely tragic character and I admire their determination to save people, no matter how misguided they end up being.

hands gripped onto the sides of the plate as he continue to look down at his finish craft. he didn’t know any altean recipes and he could only get so much information from coran before the older man went off about his glory days. things has been rough for everyone, including allura and one thing hunk knew was that delicious food can cheer anyone up. before he started his work, he had asked the princess if she could come to the dining hall in an hour from now. he didn’t want to give it away when he told her he just wanted her to be there alone.

cooking and helping people is the passions that hunk lives for, along with his friends. he was always confident in his cooking abilities since he can recall his childhood spent in the kitchens with his mother and grandmother learning their family recipes. though, there always has been the inkling of fear that he would fail, fail to help people and fail to impress people with his cooking when he tried something new.

letting his feet guide him to the dining hall, his white apron still tied to his body he walked towards the waiting princess with a big smile on his face as he spoke.

“i know back on earth, food cheers up the soul. though this dish is special, i asked coran on some ingredients and recipes that the alteans used and add a little bit of earth cuisine in the mix. i call it, ealteans or maybe altearths.  ugh..”

realizing that he was rambling and still withholding the plate from the woman. he made a quick apology before setting the plate down before her and spoke once more.

“hopefully, you’ll like it, allura.”

I'm taking notes on the (Jewish) angelic hierarchy for my own reference, so I can start working on revamping Astra in my story. I can't focus on actual homework but I can research this kind of shit for hours for no real reason.

Priorities.

Ten choirs, each commanded by one of the archangels. Each choir corresponds with a Sephirot . The latter bit proooooobably won't have much bearing in the story, though.

1) Hayoth; Holy Living Ones

Archangel: Metatron - the celestial scribe and highest of the angels. Probably not Enoch in the version since it doesn't really fit into the narrative I have for the angels already...

Sephirot: Absolute compassion, ethical behavior

Hold up the throne of God and the earth itself

2) Ophanim; Wheels

Archangel: Raziel - Keeper of Secrets and Angel of Mysteries

Sephirot: Wisdom

Literally wheels covered in eyes this shit is great

Peace and submission; maintain cosmic harmony of all universal law???? I don't see how that ties into secrets and mysteries

"Reside in the area of the cosmos where material form begins to take shape"

Aww man, so what if, like, the Hayoth make all the rules and obviously the Metatron takes everything down; rules, history, day-to-day events - everything - but it's decided that some stuff doesn't need to be on record. So the Opanim just bury that shit away on the edges of the universe where they hang out

3) Erelim; Brave ones

Archangel: Tzaphkiel - Associated with the primal waters, darkness, closing the initial impulse in form and inertia.

Sephirot: Understanding, contemplation, repentance. The supreme feminine aspect. Give shape to wisdom (wisdom is the fuel, this is the engine).

wtf everything on these guys is so vague. The only thing I understand is that they have something to do with growth.

4) Hashmallim; Glowing/Amber ones

Archangel: Zadkiel - Freedom, benevolence, mercy. Patron Angel of all who forgive, and the Righteousness of God.

Sephirot: Loving-kindness

5) Seraphim; Burning Ones

Archangel: Camael - One Who Seeks God. The leader of the angels who cast Adam and Eve out, brandishing a flaming sword. That's pretty rude.

Sephirot: Judgment

Fiery six winged beings

6) Malakim; Messengers

Archangel: Raphael - Healer

Sephirot: Giving/Receiving, Balance

7) Elohim; Godly Beings

Archangel: Uriel - Arts, creativity, consciousness (and, like, a million other things but I think that's what I'm going to mainly use). Humanity's link with spiritual realms.  Presider over Tartarus.

Sephirot: Victory, Endurance, Conquering

I'll probably write these guys as gate keepers. Like, they guard entryways into Gehenna and meet and greet with the fae, making sure everyone's following the rules and serving as a reminder that angels basically conquered the spiritual realms.

8) Bene Elohim; Sons of Elohim

Archangel: Michael - "Prince of the first rank", warrior of the people. He was an advocate of the Jews, he's gonna be the one to take Satan down when the time comes. Basically, he's Heaven's golden boy.

Sephirot: Splendor, praise, submission. "Subduing oneself" to an obstacle rather than conquering it

This is even vaguer than anything else goddamn. Like, "Sons of God" could basically just refer to angels in general, to parallel the idea of "Daughters of Men" in the nephilim story. I could make them another warrior caste I guess but that's so booooring and redundant even if it does work with Michael. Unless I just have Seraphim deal with really large matters, like the angel+djinn problem from a bazillion years ago and issues with the fae and stuff like that, while the Bene Elohim are more like regular infantry

Okay yeah, then Ella would be in this choir.

9) Cherubim; ???

Archangel: Gabriel - Messenger of the Lord. WTF then why doesn't he preside over the messenger choir stop making this harder on me. I'm beginning to understand why most stories use the Christian hierarchy, it's so much clearer

 Sephirot: Connection

Maybe while the Malakim work closely with other angels, delivering messages, literally healing warriors, etc. the Cerubim carry messages to particularly special mortals? Because while the angels are all about keeping other ethereal species away from humanity, they're totally hypocritical about it and are happy to push humans in the direction they think they need.

10) Ishim; ???

 Archangel: Sandalphon - Receives prayers and sends them to God. Really tall and often overlaps with the Metatron, which is wow very interesting considering they preside over the lower choir and Metatron is the highest of the angels.

Sephirot: The Physical World

Guardian angels, basically. Ari is part of this choir.
