I’m curious about the aim of Zawe’s play. Having studied the scholarly literature regarding medical mistrust and the subsequent high mortality rate among POC; I wonder how a play which places this issue on display going to encourage trust in vulnerable communities? It’s a truly horrific phenomenon and the medical community has studied and attempted to address it since the late 1980’s. Hence the massive diversity and inclusion adverts the NHS is utilizing for their campaigns. 1/2

2/2 However, throughout my research, I have not encountered any scholarly articles pertaining to the overmedication of POC, specifically women. I’d enjoy reading any citation Zawe could provide which would indicate that this phenomenon is a part of the medical mistrust issue. Since the announcement, I’ve searched for it myself; but I’ve come up empty handed.

I have no idea what she read exactly, of course -- other than spending a lot of time researching at the Black Women’s Mental Health Project.
