Idk if this has been brought up before but shouldn't Deceit represent more than just his descriptor? I mean, just like the others do not simply represent Thomas' anxiety, morality, creativity or logic only. There's more to them and the same should apply to Deceit as well. Isn't that right? If he would do the same as Virgil did back in Accepting Anxiety and duck out, which left Thomas incredibly careless, wouldn't that make Thomas brutally honest in return then? (1/12)
(this is basically a Deceit analyzation)
We saw 3 types of lies in Can Lying be Good and while, yes, all of these served self-preservation there was also another point made what some of these lies were good for and that was sparing people's feelings. It may have only been an argument to make lying more attractive or to stay more in character with Patton's role but it can't be denied that this would also be a side effect. Lying is not the only thing he does. Generally speaking, he hides the truth, like he hid his existence. (2/12)
But we shouldn't forget that he is not an individual. He is a part of Thomas. So, if he hides certain information from Thomas then it's bc Thomas isn't ready or doesn't want to know these things yet. His actions are determined by Thomas' own wishes and thoughts. So, following all that wouldn't Deceit also maybe act as some sort of filter? For example leaving certain information on something out: let's say Thomas is questioned about his opinion on something wouldn't Deceit be the one then (3/12)
– in case of a negative opinion - to not make him blurt out his full, honest and unfiltered thoughts but rather pick some parts of that opinion and present them in a way that would not hurt someone else's feelings? It is technically not lying but he'd still withhold the full truth and that seems to play right in Deceit's department. Or in another situation, given that he truly is the one that prevents Thomas from voicing his innermost honest feelings and thoughts, wouldn't he keep him (4/12)
from pointing out things he might not like about people, for example habits of another person that might be annoying to oneself. Confronting someone with such a truth in a not sensible way can be hurtful. Depending on the issue, they have the power of changing or even destroying someone's relationship with another person and in Deceit's episode he clearly was all about, yes, self-preservation but also preserving the relationship with Joan. Thomas considered lying because he was afraid of (5/12)
the confrontation, he was afraid of hurting Joan and all of this having a negative impact on their friendship. The text he got from Joan, and severely misinterpreted, only strengthened that fear. Telling them a lie would have, at first glance, not altered their friendship and would have avoided them getting mad at Thomas. That's what he initially wanted but after going through all the scenario's he realized that this was not the right thing to do in that situation. (6/12)
Really, if Deceit only had an interest in lying would he really have trained Thomas to guarantee the best outcome possible in those staged situations? Especially in that last scenario, he could have stopped at the first lie. It would have been mean and cruel, everything people make him out to be. But he didn't. He wanted Thomas to make a more gentle approach to that topic, to put things nicely and not make the child cry, because that would have made Thomas feel bad in return (7/12)
and Deceit knows that. It would have been ultimately against his aim of self-preservation. Again, it may only have been to stay in Patton's character but I do think that he really has an interest in protecting Thomas from any negative outcome that may come from telling the truth or too much of it. And as it is, that sometimes has the side effect of not hurting others' feelings. He is not mean by default. He's only doing his job. Like Virgil, he is good in small doses (8/12)
but listening to him too much is bad, very much so. I am not here to make him out to be a good character, I am well aware he is far from being exactly that. I'd just like to look at him from more angles than just the only one we have been presented so far. Because right now Thomas perceives him as a villain. He just learnt about him, and it is clearly not a part of himself he likes, so of course he portrays him in such a way and is on guard around him. (9/12)
He was a little bit like that with Virgil, too. Not to that degree but it can't be denied that he wasn't most fond of his negative contributions either until he eventually accepted Anxiety as a part of himself. Something that obviously still needs to happen with Deceit. Either way, morally gray character really describes him the best. Also in regard to his and Virgil's relationship: I think what may have been the breaking point between these two is their shared goal of self-preservation. (10/12)
They both just have a different idea of it, which probably drove Virgil away from Deceit, bc his way of achieving that makes Virgil feel uneasy. So, of course he wouldn't be happy when Deceit suddenly wants to push for that exact thing and on top of that with one of Thomas' friends which we know make him feel better. What I'm trying to say is, I doubt that they hate each other but rather that their ideas on how to help Thomas simply differs which probably often leads to disagreements (11/12)
between them but nothing more. Idk, take from that what you want, I just really wanted to put in my two cents, as well. And with all that being said, I'd totally join that Deceit protection squad. Stay cool ✌️(12/12)
my response because this was lONG AS FUCK AND IM TRYING TO OFFER ANY TYPE OF REFUSE
Buddy, after this? You’re coming for my fuckin job as the leader of the Deceit Protection Squad, holy FUCK. Can I just say, I have nothing to add, because this is absolutely right, this is what i’ve been thinking for a while now and didn’t know how to put it into words.
You??? Yes????? I’ve been thinking about it like, I’ve been trying to explain that Virgil and Deceit’s different ideas of self-preservation are probably exactly what drove a wedge between them. If anything, that’s the reason for the glare, and the ‘smirk’ as I saw it phrased by a certain undesirable.
Either way though, this is amazing, and THE best post on my goddamn blog.

The Reality Behind The Fiction [Part two]
[Part One]
[Next Part]
TW: Panic attack
~~~~~~~~~~~
"I was unsure if you would recognize who I was if I went by that name, but yes." Logan stated, moving away from Thomas and flipping on the light switch, so that Thomas could see him clearly. No surprise, he looked exactly what Thomas portrayed him as in his videos, the only thing different was his deep blue, almost hypnotic eyes.
Thomas slowly shook his head. "Im actually going crazy..." He said as his voice quivered. "That is how you are attempting to put this into reason, but that is a false statement. You are not becoming insane in any form, we truly do exist." Logan spoke calmly as he walked back over to Thomas offering his hand to help him stand.
"W-We?" Thomas asked, not taking Logan's hand and in fact moving more away from him in pure fear. Logan looked confused as he drew his hand away. "Well yes, your creativity, morality, and anxiety." He stated as if it was obvious, he waited a second before realizing his mistake. "Oh. And your deceit." he added.
"N-No... No, I'm going crazy, I've overworked myself with Sanders Sides videos and this is the repercussion, just... N-no.. No.." Thomas tried to convince himself of before he scrambled to his feet and bolted up the stairs back to his bedroom. He heard a sigh, a mumble and a snap before again, he was just stuck with dead silence, no hint of anything being off besides his own racing heart and spinning mind.
It's needless to say he didn't sleep that night, his mind still trying to comprehend if that was a dream or not. The next day, Joan called him to ask if anything happened, before Thomas was even able to say anything, he became hysterical, babbling incoherently through sobs and lack of breath. He was shaking and everything felt so overwhelming.
He tried to explain what happened and what he saw but Joan just told him that they'd be over soon to help him calm down and then they can talk there. Thomas managed to choke out an "okay" and they hung up.
Thomas tried to calm himself down, unfortunately to no avail, he was an absolute mess, uncontrollably shaking and sobbing. This scared him so much, everything that had been happening, the whispers, the lights, the temperature, Logan? It all looked so real, felt so real! but it couldn't be. The sides aren't real, they're just characters but it was just so real.
"I-I'm going insane... I-I... I'm crazy..." He cried into his hand, he just wants this to be a dream, some sick twisted nightmare that his mind made up and that was so elaborate that it was difficult for him to wake up. He wants to wake up and have all of this just go away. What are his friends going to think? And the fanders??? All the letters and messages he's gotten from fans saying that he's helped them, all the work he did on the musical, all of that will be invalidated now because he's insane... None of that will matter, he's going to lose everything...
When Joan got there it was hard for them to distinguish if Thomas had cried so much that he physically couldn't anymore, or if he was now calm....
It was the former...
Joan hugged and comforted him. "It's okay, Thomas, just breathe and you can explain it once you're calmed down." They spoke softly. It took quite awhile but eventually Thomas was able to steady his voice and bring his shaking down to a minimum. "I-I'm actually crazy, Joan.... I did the test a-and-and it worked! And I saw... Logan-" Joan stopped him. "Wait, Logan? Logic?" they asked.
Thomas nodded and looked down at the floor. "He was talking to me as if he was trying to convince me he was real, b-but I-I just ran back upstairs and I haven't slept or been out of my room really sense... I'm scared...." He began shaking a bit more. "I'm really scared, Joan..." He said.
Joan stayed silent, allowing Thomas to continue, but not for the reason Thomas thought.
"I-I don't know what to do... I'm freaking crazy, Joan..." Thomas said, expecting some type of sympathy or something, but there was just silence. "Joan?" He asked glancing over at them. Joan's eyes were wide, and they weren't looking at him, they were looking at something behind him.
"When did you get a twin? And why is he dressed like Logan?" Joan asked. Thomas' eyes widened and he quickly turned around. There next to the beside table stood Logan. "I apologize Thomas.... Though it's not ideal, I thought appearing in front of Joan would help to calm you... Verify that you are in fact still sane..." he said.
"Y-You can... See him too?" Thomas asked, Joan slowly nodded "Yeah.... Holy shit... They're actually real?" They asked, earning a nod from Logan. "W-Well then, where are the others?" They asked, Logan immediately responded, barely letting Joan finish their question. "They are tending to Virgil... Making sure he's okay.."
Thomas and Joan both looked at one another slightly confused. "What's wrong with Virgil?" Thomas asked hesitantly, still finding this so off-putting that he's literally talking to a character he has written and preformed as.
Logan sighed, "Thomas, Virgil represents your Anxiety... This entire day, including last night you have been in an extreme state of panic, having multiple rough anxiety attacks.... He's also been experiencing these, but worse since that is a significant part of who he is... He's in pretty bad shape... But now that you at least seem relatively calm he should be recovering from that now..." He stated.
"Oh my goodness... Is he gonna be okay?" Thomas asked, Logan nodded. "Yes, most likely, we will just need to bandage his hands, he bit them harshly trying to keep himself from crying, and he'll be jumpy and jittery for awhile, so he probably won't appear soon...." he explained.
"This is so fucking weird..." Joan muttered. "That is an understatement, Joan. We are just as confused as you two are... We weren't meaning to reveal ourselves any time soon, but it was getting bad for you mentally for us to be around without showing what we are... On another note... We aren't going to appear for a few days-"
Thomas cut him off. "You can't just leave! I have so much stuff to ask you and try to figure this out with you guys." Logan gave a deadpan look. "If you would let me finish.... We will be back once Virgil is fully recovered or at least recovered enough to talk to you... And since you now know that we are real, and you're not going insane, we can focus on him while still looking out for your mental state... And Joan?" he asked.
"Yeah?" They asked. "I have to request that this remains in confidence at least for now, while we're still figuring things out?" Joan nodded "Y-Yeah... That makes sense..." Logan gave a small nod "Now if you two will excuse me, I have to go verify that Virgil is okay." and with that, he snapped his fingers and disappeared.
