I'm fatigued, my back hurts, I accidentally spent like 3 hours sat downstairs in a chair that made our back feel worse because our executive dysfunction prevented me getting up and going back upstairs even though I only went down there to get one thing, and now I really need to lay down but if I accidentally fall asleep again I feel like I'll wake up, realise I fell asleep and also that I feel like I wasted a big chunk of the day, and I'll end up feeling even worse again
#personal#thoughts#🍬 post#vent post#posts made on pain meds#I went downstairs to get food but ended up having to wait longer than anticipated which is whatever#but then that meant I ended up sitting down and once we sit down it's like our brain stops being able to process that we can leave#I'll sit there the whole time going ''I need to get up and go back upstairs. I don't want to be sat here'' and just can't get up#I hate that this happens because while I know our executive dysfunction isn't our fault#and it's the exact same issue that stops us eating or drinking or going to the toilet or whatever when we need to#I still feel like I should be able to just get up and do the thing and just leave if I'm in a situation that I don't want to be in#and it's so hard to get other people to understand that I can't ''just leave'' because my brain just won't let that happen#like I want to but my brain won't register it as an actual thing I can do and it feels more like a weird abstract concept#than a thing I could actually do. it's like my brain can't connect the concept of the action to the act of doing it#and then I get frustrated because why can't I just do the thing that I know I should be able to do#and then I've spent hours not doing anything I meant to and mostly just feel like shit because of it and it keeps happening#and now I need to lay down and I know what's likely to happen if I do that#but I do need to listen to my body especially after getting stuck in a situation that makes our pain and fatigue worse#also we had to take pain meds earlier and that's definitely not helping with us feeling shit emotionally about all this#I hate having to navigate our brain and body just not functioning properly#I feel like we've had so little energy lately and it's reminding me too much of this time last year when we had that blood infection#I'm terrified of that happening again because we almost didn't get treatment because we started to assume it was just our new baseline#hmm apparently within like 5 minutes we've gone from ''ugh I wasted 3 hours'' to almost crying over medical trauma#I probably need to try and do something to calm us down but also I'm too tired to really do anything#which brings me right back to the issue that triggered this whole rant and me getting upset in the first place

Thinking about Curly too because you mfs give him too much leeway!!! FUCK CURLY MAN!!
So like, obviously, what happened to him was tragic but he could've prevented the events of the game so easily. Firstly, he's the one who got Jimmy on the ship. Jimmy's not supposed to be there, he literally isn't even a freighter pilot. It's heavily implied the reason Jimmy is on the ship is that Curly was helping him run from the law.
This exhibits Curly's biggest problem in the game. He's Jimmy's friend first and his boss second. He puts Jimmy ahead of everything, so despite his past history of what we can presume to be violence, he puts him on a small ship with other people who are now vulnerable to his abuse. And he knows, he's aware that there's a chance these people could be victimized by Jimmy and says and does nothing. This next part is my personal theory, but I think he knew Daisuke was coming with them before he invited Jimmy, he just didn't say anything.
Curly's second big sin is what he does to Anya. He finds out what Jimmy's been doing to her and he says he'll do something, anything. But he doesn't. I said it earlier, but I think Anya thought that Curly would have Jim arrested on landing, but even then, there's some short term things he could've done. Here's a list actually because oh my god, there's so much he could have done.
Set up a bed for Anya in medical. Y'know, a door with an actual lock.
Put Jimmy in a cryopod as a holding cell.
Fire Jimmy, which seemingly wouldn't do much until you remember you need the captain to do half the shit on the ship.
Lockdown Jimmy, essentially lock down anything Jimmy could use as a weapon. The only two weapons on the ship are guarded by codes, but anyone could figure them out in a couple days. this goes hand in hand with the last one.
Literally just fucking kill him.
And before someone says "Oh, if Curly did anything, Jimmy would've acted out, he would've turned violent anyway." There are four other crew members and one Jimmy. If Jimmy had turned violent so early on, I fully believe Daisuke could've just bodied him. It wouldn't be that hard to pacify him if, say, he was ganged up on by three men.
The problem at the end of the day is that Curly is Curly, Jimmy's best friend before he's Captain Curly of the Tulpar. He cares more about Jimmy than the well-being of the people he's supposed to care about. He doesn't take Jimmy seriously when he is outwardly awful and pretty much straight up tells Curly he's gonna crash the ship. Like Curly does nothing because he doesn't think of Jimmy as a bad person. He can't even comprehend it until he's in a position where he's completely at Jimmy's mercy.
Now there's a couple of interpretations on the metaphor of what Curly's disability means and I'm gonna yap about at least 2, idk I'm just ranting.
The first one is that Curly is now Anya, or rather in her position. He's got no agency over his own body, he literally can't move, and he's forced to trust Jimmy with his life. He's in constant pain, he wants to die, and he can't. Anya cannot stand giving Curly his medicine so she lets Jimmy do it. She's putting a vulnerable person at Jimmy's mercy, just like Curly did, except this time he's on the receiving end. And whenever it's just Curly and Jimmy alone in the med bay, Jim is just beating the shit out of this guy for no reason. Like there is no need to be doing all that, but Jimmy is a violent person, and Curly just ignored it for too long.
The second interpretation that I also really like it that Curly is Anya's baby. Jimmy has done something heinous and it's left Anya caring for someone she can't feasibly support. Her ability to keep Curly alive for so long is a testament to how resilient and determined she is, but at the end of the day she can't take it. It's not just the fact that she has to care for Curly that drives her to take her life, it was a lot of things, but the stress of dealing with Curly was definitely part of that.
This next part isn't Curly's fault, it's Pony Express' but if he survives long enough to be found, he no longer has a future. He can't be a pilot anymore, he'll more than likely be forced to take responsibility for the deaths of the crew, the rehab process will take years and probably hundreds of thousands of dollars. He's cooked. This leans into the him becoming Anya thing, he's been put in a position where he can't work but is forced to deal with a heavy financial burden. The difference is, this is his own fault.
He could've prevented all of this if he hadn't ignored all the red flags. In the dead pixel scene he says the one pixel doesn't hinder his enjoyment of the whole image, he can ignore it. That's what he did. When he looks a the bigger picture or the grand scheme of things he can ignore a few dead pixels. The way he sees it, he's given Jimmy a whole year to pull himself out of a "struggle" so when he gets back to Earth things will be okay again. In his eyes, Jimmy's bound to have a few slip-ups and unfortunately, what he did to Anya was one of them. So that's just a pixel he can ignore.
LONG STORY SHORT, CURLY IS AN ENABLER AND LITERALLY THE ONLY WAY HE WAS GONNA LEARN WAS IF HE BECAME A VICTIM TOO!!!!
Apologies if any of this is worded weird, it's just brain vomit.
I also did an Anya rant

Why did you elbow me? 161
Achilles Castle part 63
Lemonade and lies PART 6
Muncy: pov the sweaty guy is waiting for us, the boss needs to talk to the 2 of them alone, Liv doesn't like this at all, she convinces him to let all 4 of us in the room with the boss. Once in the room the boss asks if we want to see the other girls. Suddenly a second guy appears with a gun. We are outgunned, Boris tells us to follow him, he just wants to talk with us. In another room that is more private, I notice a weird smell, this does not seem good.
Jet: pov hey they are taking them out of the room, whatever happened. happened off camera.
Kate: pov I'm definitely still coughing badly but the cough meds I took earlier are helping. He starts asking us about the case and how much we know. There is a weird smell in the room. I can't hold my breath because of my health issues. I let out a nasty cough. I can feel my lungs start to burn and my chest is on fire. My heart starts to race, I just don't feel good.
Esposito: pov something isn't right I can feel it. Lanie who is sitting next to me in the van says you are right, something is wrong, she is looking at her phone. She tells me Kate's numbers are elevated indicating she is having a medical emergency. I tell Elliot something is wrong and we need to bust in immediately. He says give it a minute, i say no i out rank you and we are busting in i'm not risking their lives by waiting. I tell Jet to have an ambulance come to this location
Liv: pov something is wrong, this room smells weird, i can't put my finger on the smell. I tell Muncy and Ayanna to hold their breath or cover their mouths. Kate is gasping for air and grabbing her chest in pain. I tell the guy that she has a cold and a heart condition and what you are doing is going to kill her. He says he had no idea just wanted to see if we were police officers.
Ayanna: pov what she has a heart condition, Liv says yes.
Fin: pov we bust down the door and clear the warehouse room by room, along the way we arrest a few people. The sweaty guy tells us Boris took the girls in a backroom because he thinks they are cops. In a backroom someone is talking. Me and Esposito bust down the door, Liv is sitting with Kate who doesn't look so good. Boris is put in handcuffs, Elliot, Joe and Ryan went to look for the 2 undercover officers.
Jet: pov I'm on the phone with the medics, Once I explain everything I turn back to Lanie who is sitting next to me. She looks on edge. Ayanna, Liv and Muncy are going to get the other girls with some uniformed officers.
Ryan: pov we find Ayanna's 2 guys and meet back with the others. Jet is saying the medics should be arriving on scene soon. It is decided we are bringing Kate outside Esposito carries her to one of the cars. We have her laying in the back of an Suv. Ayanna, Liv and Muncy are back with the other girls. Lanie has Fin run and get her medical bag.
Lanie: pov it just happens so suddenly Kate starts grabbing her chest in pain, I can see the tears on her face I grab her hand trying to sooth her. She is gasping for air, I tell Esposito to go into my bag and get her meds. Jet is still on the phone with the medics telling them she is coughing and now seems to be having chest pain, she mentions Kate also has a cold. Joe is nice enough to wait for the medics. I'm checking her numbers on my phone. They are very elevated. Jet and Elliot look freaked out since they have no idea what is going on. Ayanna also looks freaked out and concerned. This Is definitely turning into a heart episode on top of her cold, she is having trouble breathing. The dispatcher says to Jet if it's chest pain this could be a heart attack and the cold and whatever was in that room might not be helping. Jet looks freaked out by this info. Kate is still conscious which is great. I can see her chest is moving too fast, this is going to turn into something without help.
Jet: pov Lanie tells me to pass the phone to detective Ryan who is now talking with the paramedics. Explaining stuff like her vitals. He says Captain Beckett is a shooting, TCA, PTSD, heart surgery and trauma survivor she also has vt. Whatever is happening is scary. It just happened all of a sudden. Captain Beckett looks a little freaked out. Elliot sometimes gets this way when he is having a PTSD episode. Captain Beckett looks to be in severe pain. She is also breathing heavily. Something was in the air in that room.
Elliot: pov I mention me and Liv have PTSD mine was from my wife dying near me and killing Jenna, Liv's was from being tortured by a psychopath. I used to get shot all the time on the job too, some more painful than others but nothing to make a big deal about, it happened so much to me.
Fin: pov Lanie says to Liv can you hold Kate's Hand. Ayanna Is checking on the undercover detectives quickly. Her lips are starting to turn blue meaning she is not getting enough oxygen. Thankfully Lanie has oxygen which Joe had gotten from the van, she puts the oxygen mask on her face.
Muncy: pov Ayanna looks shocked by the info given to the medics, The medics should be here soon. Lanie says she needs to give Kate her emergency heart meds. Esposito offers to have Kate sit on his lap, that way he can hold her hands out of the way and Lanie can give Kate her meds. I remember this from the last time we worked together. This is going to be rough. To be continued. ……..

"38... 38... 38..."
I scanned the doors to the many apartments in the hall, hoping to find the one that belonged to my newest patient – Anna Pivec. As a nurse, I was always given new patients to visit and tend to until they no longer needed it or chose not to have me around. I'd just been assigned a new patient, Anna, and was excited to meet her.
"38!" I said to myself, spotting the door at the end of the hallway. I knocked on before waiting patiently, hoping she wasn't sleeping or anything. It wasn't too early – 10AM – and she knew I was coming, so finger's crossed.
The door opened to reveal a short, old lady with grey hair and a cane in her hand. I smiled kindly, meeting her cloudy gaze.
"You must be the one my granddaughter is paying to look after me because she can't do it herself," the woman spoke before I could introduce myself. Stepping to the side, she motioned with her cane. "Come on in."
My smile dropped at her abruptness. "I, er, yeah, I guess that's me." As I walked in, I said, "My name is Y/N Y/L/N. The nurse from–"
"Yeah, I know where you're from," she cut me off, closing the door and heading further into her apartment. "They sent me a brochure, milaya."
I followed after her, surprised at how quick she was for an old lady with back and heart problems. She was leading me into the open plan living-room and kitchen.
"I'm sorry – milaya? What does that mean?" I asked politely, hoping I didn't come across as rude.
She waved her hand dismissively, mumbling something to herself in what I think was Russian. Her profile did say she was from Sokovia, so maybe that was it.
"Okay, erm, well, as I said," I changed the subject, figuring she wouldn't give me an answer, "I'm Y/N. I'll be here five times a week and basically be doing anything you need me to do. Of course, I only want you to be comfortable in your own home, so if you ever feel anything but, please let me know."
She hummed in acknowledgement before motioning for me to follow her. I set my bag on the kitchen counter before sitting on the couch as she did so on the recliner. She sighed with content as the pain on her back was eased from taking a seat.
"Tell me about yourself," she said gently.
I smiled with amusement. "That's usually what I ask my patients."
"Do forgive me, milaya," she said, and I made a mental note to bring a Russian-English dictionary with me tomorrow, "but you're a stranger in my home. I'd prefer to know about you before I let you take care of me."
I nodded, slightly impressed. Her profile didn't do her justice. Usually, the elderly I cared for were quick to allow me to do my thing, never really questioning who I was or what my intentions were. I was starting to get the impression that Anna was a strong, stubborn woman in a little old lady's body – definitely not one to mess around with.
"Okay, well, I'm a nurse," I began with the basics, and from there, went into a long ramble about my job, how I got into it, what it consisted of...
Anna was full of questions, taking the time to get to know me and I her. Once I had told her everything I could think to, she told me about her life. How she lived in Sokovia up until she was thirty-five years old and had to flee with her husband and daughter because of the war. She gushed about the both of them, a twinkle in her eye as she recalled their livelihoods like they were still alive. Her husband had unfortunately passed many years ago due to liver problems – "All that drinking, milaya! Us Sokovians are a force to be reckoned with!" – and her daughter had passed in a car accident not long after.
It was a tragic tale, but she didn't let it bring her down. In fact, she seemed grateful to have lived it and I couldn't help but smile as she shared it with me.
I noticed she would speak short phrases in Russian mid-conversation, without realising, which didn't make it easier for me to understand, but I couldn't bring it in myself to interrupt her to ask what they meant because she said it with such sincerity that I figured it reminded her of her home.
After our conversation, I made her lunch and gave her her medication before watching some TV with her and pretty much talking to her once again. She was quite an interesting woman, different to my usual patients, and I was enjoying our time together. After spending the day there, I wished her a good night before leaving.
When I returned the next morning, I let myself in with the key Anna gave me and called out a good morning.
"In here!" an unfamiliar female voice called out.
I furrowed my brows as I took off my jacket and headed into the living-area. Anna was sat in her recliner as usual, but she had a guest sat on her couch. A young woman, possibly my age, with long dark hair and a friendly smile on her lips was sat comfortably; she had a cup of tea in her hands and her legs pulled up on the couch like she lived there.
The stranger and Anna exchanged words in Russian briefly before the former stood up, about to introduce herself.
"Oh, are you her granddaughter?" I asked, putting two and two together. It was the only explanation I could think of for how comfortable she was and the fact that she was also Sokovian (I assumed, anyway).
The girl laughed, her green eyes sparkling as she shook her head. Putting out her hand, she said, "I'm Wanda Maximoff. Anna's neighbour."
Slightly embarrassed by my mistake, I smiled awkwardly and shook her hand. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have– I just thought because you were speaking Russian that–"
"It's fine, no harm no foul," she put me at ease quickly, before taking her seat again. "I've lived next door to Anna for about a year now. Sometimes I keep her company on my days off."
I set my bag on the floor before taking a seat on the couch, leaving a gap between Wanda and I.
"That's nice," I said with a smile before looking to Anna. "How are you feeling this morning, Mrs Pivec?"
She sighed, waving her hand dismissively, before saying something to Wanda in Russian who was listening intently. Nodding her head, Wanda looked to me with amusement.
"What did she say?" I asked, quirking a brow.
"She said she told you to stop calling her Mrs Pivec yesterday," Wanda translated, trying not to laugh.
"Just call me Anna, Y/N," Anna added with a nod. "And I'm fine. Just had breakfast with Wanda here."
"Breakfast," I repeated slowly. "How long ago was that? Just gotta make sure you get your meds."
"Shoot, am I doing your job?" Wanda asked, slightly panicked.
"No, no, you're not." I laughed at the way she scrunched her nose. "I mean, it would help if I could have breakfast with Miss– Anna, so I know when she has her medication. But it's all good."
"Are you sure? I can leave if I'm in the way," Wanda said with a frown.
"No need," I reassured her. "If Anna doesn't mind your presence, it's all good. I'm just here to look after her, clean up, make sure she eats, has her meds."
Wanda looked to Anna, who seemed unbothered by her presence.
"She can stay," Anna said with a shrug. "Makes it feel less like I'm a pet."
I opened my mouth to say something, possibly make her feel better, but I wasn't sure what to say.
"Don't mind her," Wanda reassured, giving Anna a knowing look before shooting me an easygoing smile. "She tends to speak her mind exactly as it is. No filter whatsoever. And very stubborn. You may have noticed."
I cracked a smile, feeling better knowing that it wasn't just me who noticed Anna's unique personality traits.
"Hey, that stubbornness and lack of filter is exactly how I beat my husband and his friends in every poker game back home," Anna said with a playful smirk.
Wanda and I chuckled, before the brunette leaned on the couch comfortably and looked to me.
"We finished breakfast, maybe, ten minutes ago? I made us eggs and toast," she answered my question from earlier.
I hummed before getting up with my bag and heading to the kitchen. Setting my bag on the counter, I grabbed my diary and also Anna's medication from its place on the kitchen counter.
"I'll give you your medicine now, Anna," I told her, already grabbing a glass of water for her.
"Thank you, milaya," she called back, and I spun around, immediately going to get my Russian-English dictionary from my bag. "Wait, I know what that is!" I flicked through the pages and scanned it eagerly. "Milaya... milaya... milaya! Okay, it means... sweetie."
"Sweetie," Wanda said at the same time, and I looked up to see her watching me from behind her cup of tea, trying not to laugh again.
"I guess another perk of your presence is being the translator," I said sheepishly, realising just how eager I was a second ago. "Anna likes to speak Russian a lot, which I'm fine with of course, but..." I waved the dictionary in the air.
"It's funny watching tvoye lichiko, milaya," Anna said with that same mischievous smirk on her face.
I looked down to my dictionary, struggling to pinpoint a single word in her sentence that I could search. It was overwhelming, the words going in one ear and out the other.
"She said it's funny watching your little face, sweetie," Wanda translated upon seeing my frozen state.
I relaxed my shoulders. "Thanks." Then I realised what she said. "Hey!"
Anna laughed as Wanda grinned, and I was suddenly glad she was here. I grabbed Anna's meds with a glass of water before giving them to her. After making sure she swallowed them properly, I put the glass to the side and took a seat on the couch again.
"So, you said you visited Anna on your days off?" I asked Wanda, intrigued by why a neighbour would be so interested in another. It wasn't very common in today's day and age.
"She's almost always here," Anna answered before Wanda could speak. I looked to her as she continued with a grateful smile. "Helps me with everything. Groceries, cleaning, my medication."
"So basically me but unpaid," I joked, and Anna laughed.
"Exactly," she agreed, and I looked to Wanda to see her blushing, eyes avoiding mine.
"That's really sweet," I said gently, earning her attention. "You're a really good neighbour, Wanda."
Wanda ran a hand through her hair. "It's nothing. If anything, I enjoy being here. Anna reminds me of Sokovia and my family and, well, home."
"Oh, so you're Sokovian, too?"
She nodded before smiling playfully. "Did the accent not give it away?"
I hid a smile. "I didn't want to assume. I mean, you could've been Czech. Slovakian. Basically anything else."
"Okay, I'll give you that," she gave in, tilting her head to the side, smile widening.
It was then that I learnt her smile was extremely contagious.
Same as yesterday, my plan was to stay the day with Anna, though this time Wanda also kept her company (and me, too). After lunch, I left the two of them to watch some TV as I excused myself to change Anna's bedsheets in her room, ready for bed tonight.
As I was doing so, I heard the door open and glanced over my shoulder to see Wanda entering the room. I gave her a smile before continuing to replace the pillowcase.
"Here, I can help," she offered, and didn't give me chance to decline as she grabbed the pillow on the other side of the bed and began to change its case.
"You sure? You know it's my job, right?" I teased, looking up at her over the bed between us.
She rolled her eyes playfully. "I'm aware. Just thought I'd make it a bit easier for you."
I chuckled. "Well, I appreciate it... how is Anna?"
"Dozed off," Wanda quipped with an expectant nod. "Same time every day. Like clockwork."
"Huh." I thought back to yesterday and how she ended up taking a nap after lunch, too. "Noted. Thanks."
Wanda smiled before putting the pillowcase on the pillow and puffing it with her hands. I did the same, content with its appearance, before moving to the duvet. Wordlessly, Wanda grabbed one end and began to help me put it on, which I appreciated. The duvet was bigger than I was and definitely a two-person job.
"Hey, can I ask you something?" I spoke out of the blue as we were putting on the duvet cover.
"Go for it," she said encouragingly, glancing sideways.
"Of course, you don't have to answer, but I thought I'd ask since I'm going to be looking after Anna for a while," I gave a little disclaimer, before saying, "She makes a lot of snide remarks about her granddaughter. Do they not get along?"
Wanda sighed quietly. "Her granddaughter doesn't really visit her here. She rarely calls."
"Her daughter's kid?"
"The only one," Wanda confirmed. "She keeps her distance, ever since her mum – Anna's daughter – passed. She just pays for, well, you."
I frowned. "That's sad."
"Yeah," Wanda agreed, breathing out.
The two of us spread the duvet over the double bed before I looked to her with a small smile.
"At least she has you," I pointed out. "It's nice you give up your free time to spend it with her."
"Like I said, it's good for me, too," she reminded me, returning the smile.
"So what do you do when you're not here keeping her company?" I asked curiously, moving to Anna's bedside to clear it up a little.
Wanda hid her smile behind a look of confusion. "Do you not– don't you recognise me?"
I quirked a brow, pausing my actions. "Am I supposed to?"
She snickered, shaking her head, eyes falling to the bed with mild disbelief. "I mean, I guess not. I'm–" She chuckled, looking to my confused face. "I'm one of the Avengers."
I studied her, her words not quite settling in. But when they did, I realised I actually recognised her and she was one of the Avengers.
"Oh my God!" I blurted, the penny finally dropping. "The one with the weird red energy powers! I mean– not weird but– the magic!"
She stifled laughter, nodding her head. Just like her smile, her laughter was contagious, too.
"Yeah, that's me," she confirmed.
I made a weird motion with my free hand, like I'd seen her do on TV when saving the day. "Does Anna know about your y'know?"
Wanda crossed her arms, raising a brow and watching me with a humoured gaze. "Is that supposed to be my powers?"
I stopped making the motion and felt my neck heating up. "I– yeah."
Laughter spilled from her lips yet again, automatically making me smile. I didn't mind that I'd made a fool of myself all of a sudden.
"Anna knows, yes," Wanda said with a bright smile. "She actually recognised me straight away. Much quicker than you. And she's eighty."
Waving my hand to distract from my flushed cheeks, I said, "Pfft, she probably confused you with someone else and played along when you told her who you were."
"Yeah, I'm sure that was it, ty milyy maneken," she retorted with her piercing gaze.
"No fair, my dictionary is in the other room," I said with a pout, and she only laughed even more.
"Guess you'll never know," she teased with a smirk, making me roll my eyes to distract from the way it made me feel when she stared at me like that.
It was much later on when I learnt that she had called me 'a cute dummy'. And that was the beautiful start to Wanda and I's introduction into each other's lives.
From then onwards, about eighty percent of the time I would go to care for Anna, Wanda was present, too and I didn't mind one bit. Not only did she keep Anna company, but she made my job a lot easier whilst keeping me company as well.
I was beginning to look forward to seeing her whenever I would open the door. Whether she was cleaning something up, playing board games with Anna or simply having a tidy up around the apartment, she'd always stop what she was doing and help me with whatever was in my hands as she greeted me at the door. It was adorable. She was adorable.
The few times she wasn't present because of work only made me miss her, the apartment feeling emptier than usual. Even Anna agreed, the two of us making up for the lack of the Sokovian girl's presence by distracting ourselves with other activities.
I was convinced Anna was warming up to me as she freely let me care for her without resistance. Obviously, she wouldn't be Anna if she didn't throw funny remarks my way or speak to me in Russian, knowing I didn't understand her, but it was tolerable. And I was liking her, too; she was easily becoming one of the best patients I cared for. There was just so much personality to her that I couldn't help but smile whenever I spoke to her.
One time, I was helping Anna out at her place when Wanda wasn't present. I was leading her into her bed when I decided now was a better time than ever to ask her about her birthday on Sunday, which I knew was then because of her file.
"So, I'll be seeing you in two days next," I told her as I pulled the duvet over her. "And a little birdie told me it's your birthday then. Eighty-one, Anna! That's amazing!"
She smiled but seemed embarrassed that I knew.
"Tell me what you want and I can make it happen," I said promisingly, smiling down at her.
She waved her hand. "I don't want anything, milaya (sweetie). Your presence is enough."
I chuckled. "As sweet as that is, I know everybody wants something for their birthday. Now please, Anna. What can I do to make the day a bit more special?"
She pondered my question momentarily and I waited for her to speak, hoping it was something doable.
"I would love to have a traditional Sokovian meal," she said reluctantly. "It's been a long time."
I breathed out quietly, patting her hand gently. "I can do that, Anna. Don't you worry."
She smiled genuinely, before shooing me away. "Okay, enough sappiness, ty mozhesh' uyti seychas (you can leave now)."
I laughed, standing up and dusting my pants off. I only knew what that phrase meant because she said it almost every time before my shift ended and I left for the day. I knew she didn't mean it as harshly as it sounded.
"I'm going, I'm going," I said, already heading to the door. "I'll see you Sunday, birthday girl."
She groaned quietly, making me grin, before I double checked everything was okay in the living-area and grabbed my stuff to leave.
As easy of a request that it was, I knew absolutely nothing about cooking a traditional Sokovian meal. But I knew of one person who did and instantly headed to Wanda's apartment next door to see if she was home.
With a quick knock, I waited patiently. I wasn't sure if she was even home since she hadn't visited Anna today and she usually did so if she was. When I was beginning to think she wasn't, I told myself I could Google a recipe and put something together, but then the door opened and revealed a tired-looking Wanda.
"Y/N," she said with surprise, but a friendly smile was on her lips nonetheless.
"Hey, I'm so sorry to disturb you this late, but I wanted to ask– wait, what happened to your face?" I stopped speaking and lost my own smile when I noticed the faint scratches and bruises dusting her skin.
"Oh, it's nothing–" she started, raising her hand, fingers wavering over her head, but I cut her off.
"Shit, Wanda, what happened?" I reached out, taking her hand in mine and studying the cast that was around her wrist. Concerned frown on my lips, I glanced up at her. "Are you okay?"
"It's fine, Y/N," she tried to reassure, but I couldn't help it as my worry got the better of me and I studied the cuts on her cheek. "I just came back from a mission. Minor injuries. Honestly."
I let go of her hand, realising I was still holding it, and nodded slightly. "Right..." Realising she must have been exhausted, I awkwardly stepped back and shook my head with realisation. "Sorry, I should go. I didn't mean to bot–"
"You were saying something," she interrupted, nodding encouragingly. "You wanted to ask me something. What is it?"
I paused, nodding. Admittedly, I was still worried about the bruises on her forehead. I knew she was an Avenger and this was probably the norm for her, but to me, it looked like she'd just got mugged. And the irregularity of that worried me.
"Yeah, I was saying," I finally found my words, trying to ignore the way her tired eyes peered at me hopefully. "It's Anna's birthday on Sunday and she wants to have a traditional Sokovian meal to celebrate. The only problem is, I don't know what that is." Wanda cracked a smile as I continued. "Do you, maybe, have a recipe I could use?"
"Of course," she said before motioning for me to follow her. "Come on in."
I followed after her, closing the door behind me, and stopped at the kitchen counter patiently. As she searched for a notebook in her drawer, I subtly glanced around, taking in the inside of Wanda's apartment. I'd never actually been in it before, but the minimal décor was very her. She didn't have many knickknacks and everything on display served a purpose.
"There's some recipes in here," she said, grabbing my attention. She slid the notebook across the counter and leaned forward with a smile. "Take your pick."
I flicked through it briefly, smiling at the notebook filled with recipes, all in Wanda's neat, cursive handwriting.
"Thank you," I said gratefully, looking up and catching her staring.
She perked up, clearing her throat as she nodded in response before looking the other way. Cute.
"Are you working on Sunday?" I asked with a raised brow, before rolling my eyes playfully. "What am I saying? Of course you're not. Not with that wrist."
She chuckled, still avoiding my eyes. "I'm not."
"Well, why don't you come over for her birthday? You can help me cook her a meal. Or rather, I can help you cook it since I'll probably screw it up."
Finally meeting my eyes, she smiled with amusement. "Are you sure?"
I gave her a knowing look, ignoring the butterflies swirling in my stomach as she held my gaze with her intense dark eyes. "Yes, I'm sure. Anna will love to celebrate with you. And..." I pursed my lips, taking a leap of faith and adding, "and I'd love it, too."
Wanda let out a quiet laugh. "You would, would you?"
I straightened up, smile widening. "Yeah, I would."
She tilted her head, studying me with a curious smile. "Well then, I clearly can't say no."
Something stirred in my chest the longer she watched me and I oddly liked it. It was obvious that Wanda was a beautiful girl with a heart of gold, but I guess I hadn't really acknowledged that I may have had feelings for her until now. And I didn't mind one bit.
"Great," I finally found my words, nodding slightly. "I'll see you Sunday."
She mirrored my expression, saying, "See you Sunday," and I knew I couldn't wait until then.

Fatal Fix
*hey everyone! Here's another new story. Enjoy!*
We had just gotten through a busy evening in the ER. It seemed like we had a steady drip of people coming into the emergency department between 8-10pm. We didn’t have any critical patients, but our personnel and resources were spread thin for a couple hours. But once all the patients were discharged or handed off to all the appropriate departments, our small community ER became a ghost town. Me and the usual team were all hanging out at the main nurses station, just chatting and catching up with each other. Nurse Ashley was telling us about how her and her boyfriend Vincent just booked a trip to Orlando to go to Disney and universal, while nurse Nancy talked about how her daughter was recently accepted into university for nursing- following in her mother’s footsteps.
Our chatter came to an abrupt halt when we got a call from dispatch. “oh, what now?” dr Lindsay complained. “can’t this person die later or something?” Nurse heather said with a chuckle, half joking but half serious, feeling a little burnt out from the ER being busy earlier in the evening. Nurse Nancy picked up the phone and answered the call from dispatch. After a brief phone call, nurse nancy let us know what was said. “ok guys. 28 year old female, looks like it’s an OD. They Narcanned her on scene, but she’s still a bit groggy and her vitals are unstable. The medics were told she snorted some cocaine, but since she responded to narcan, that may not be the case. ETA is 5 minutes.” “alright, let’s get trauma 1 ready. Let’s make sure we have an intubation tray and a crash cart in there just in case.” I said, taking charge. “and I’d make sure we run a stat tox screen- we need to know what we’re dealing with, so the lab definitely needs a heads up.” Dr Lindsay added.
We all sprung into action and started getting the room ready for our incoming patient. Nancy, Ashley, and Heather all started making sure we had sufficient amounts of meds and other supplies we may need for an overdose case. Dr Lindsay and I put on a fresh gown and gloved up and began supervising the nurses while they got our trauma room ready.
By time we got the room ready, the ambulance pulled in. On the stretcher was 28 year old Jade. She was a tall, thin girl who had jet black hair and short bangs. She had big blue eyes, and colorful tattoos all over her body, creating some contrast between her pale skin. She had tattoo sleeves on both arms, a sternum tattoo, a large neck tattoo, and tattoos up and down both legs. She also had piercings in both nipples, and she had gauges in both ears. She was a beautiful girl, but not in the conventional sense.
When Jade was brought into our ER, she was actively seizing on the stretcher. Her eyes were wife open, staring up above with a pained look on her face. She was grunting and groaning, and foaming slightly at the mouth. Her toes were curled on the other end of the stretcher, showing off the prominent, silky wrinkles throughout the soft soles of her size 9 feet. There was a bite guard placed in her mouth in order to prevent injuries to her tongue and lips. Her vital signs were all out of whack too. Her heart rate was in the 170s and climbing, and her EKG was abnormal. It was somewhere between sinus tachycardia and v-tach, but something else didn’t look quite right, so we knew we needed to slow her heart down in order to improve her vital signs. Just like dispatch told us, the medics were informed that Jade had snorted cocaine at a party on multiple occasions tonight, but felt that assessment was either incorrect, or the cocaine had something else in it.
After the medics gave us all pertinent information, they helped us move Jade onto the table before exiting the room. She continued seizing on the table during our initial examination of us. “pupils reactive but constricted.” Nurse nancy said after shining a pen light into the patient’s eyes. “let’s run a stat tox screen, a CBC, and a BMP.” Dr Lindsay called out. Nurse Ashley was able to draw the 3 vials of blood necessary for the lab tests, but it was tough since the patient was essentially a moving target. “alright, let’s push a round of lorazepam to see if we can calm this seizure down.” I ordered the team. Nurse heather was responsible for meds this time, so she pushed a round of lorazepam into Jade’s IV. Typically, anticonvulsants take anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes to work, so we had to play the waiting game.
Luckily, the meds worked sooner rather than later. Jade’s violent thrashing came to a gradual stop shortly after the medication was administered. However, her heart rate was still dangerously high, and her oxygen saturation was decreasing while a foam cone started to form around her mouth. “let’s get some suction in here. I think she’s choking on all that foamed up saliva.” I called out, to which nurse Nancy responded promptly. A slurping sound was heard from the suction tube removing the excess foamy saliva that was blocking jade’s airway. Jade’s oxygen saturation improved a bit, but Dr Lindsay felt we should intubate for the sake of airway management. Nurse Ashley set up an intubation tray for dr Lindsay. She picked up a laryngoscooe and a 7.0 ET tube and began the intubation process. Dr Lindsay carefully navigated the tube to the correct depth, pulled out the stylet, and held the tube in place until nurse Nancy taped it in place. The ET tube was hanging out the left side of Jade’s mouth, while the bite guard was still on the right side. Jade’s eyes were still wide open during this whole process, so it looked as if she was watching us work on her. An ambu bag was attached to the end of the ET tube, and Nancy began ambu bagging.
Post intubation, Jade’s oxygenation improved, but her heart was still racing. “She’s in stable v-tach. Let’s see if we can chemically cardiovert her.” Dr Lindsay said, looking at the monitors. “I agree. Let’s push a round of magnesium sulfate and a round of dofetilide.” I added. Nurse heather got the meds ready and pushed them intravenously. We waited to see if the meds worked, but the only discernible change in her condition was an EKG change. There was a widening QRS complex along with a heart rate that was now in the 180s. “I think we need to continue chemical cardioversion. Lets get some calcium channel blockers and amiodarone and see if that does the trick. And any news from the lab?” Said dr Lindsay. Nurse heather once again got the meds ready and pushed them. “no news from the lab. We gotta give them some time.” Nurse nancy replied. “I don’t know, time’s not on our side here. She’s gonna be circling the drain pretty soon if we don’t know what we’re dealing with.” Dr Lindsay replied. “Is there anything we can do to buy her some time?” nurse ashley asked. “well, not really since the chemical cardioversion doesn’t appear to be doing anything.” I responded. “hey… I don’t feel a pulse.” Nurse nancy said, shaking her head. “crap… pulseless v-tach. Someone start compressions. Charge the paddles to 150!” I called out, a bit flustered.
Dr Lindsay began deep, strong chest compressions on our cute, tatted up patient while Ashley charged the defib paddles to 150 joules. Jade’s skinny chest caved in from the force of the compressions and her belly rippled outwards. One of her arms fell off the side of the table and began bobbing in sync with each individual compression. “paddles ready dr Kenny” nurse ashley said, handing me the defibs. I rubbed the paddles together to spread the conductive gel, then pressed the paddles up against Jade’s bare chest. Everyone backed away in anticipation of the shock. Once I knew everyone backed up, I pushed the shock button. Jade’s chest shot up quickly and returned to its precious position in the course of a second or two. “no change.” Nurse nancy said, shaking her head. “ok, recharge to 200.” I tell ashley.
Dr Lindsay resumed compressions in the meantime. “1… 2… 3… come on now…” she said, thinking out loud while pumping away at the young lady’s bare chest. “ok. Everyone…. CLEAR!” I called out. Jade’s body flopped on the table in response to the quick jolt of electricity, but she remained in pulseless v-tach. “No change, resuming compressions.” Dr Lindsay said, shaking her head. “let’s push a round of epi and atropine, then shock again in a minute or two if that doesn’t get her back.” I ordered. Nurse heather nodded, and injected epinephrine and atropine into Jade’s IV line. “meds in dr kenny" she said.
Dr Lindsay grew tired from performing several cycles of compressions, so nurse ashley swapped in and began delivering chest compressions. Nurse Ashley delivered strong compressions with interlocked fingers, causing Jade’s chest to recoil in response. After 2 more minutes of compressions, we did a pulse check. Jade was still in pulseless v-tach, so we decided to shock her again at 250 joules. The paddles were gelled, charged, and pressed back up against the lady’s bare chest. Once everyone backed away, we delivered the next shock. Jade’s feet kicked up above the table and slammed back down half a second later, showing off her cute, wrinkly soles. “she’s in v-fib.” Dr Lindsay called out, shaking her head while looking at the monitor. “resuming compressions…” nurse Ashley announced.
We now knew the code was going to be a longer one, so our optimism began to decrease. Typically, if patients don’t come back after the 1st or 2nd shock, they end up toe tagged and in the morgue. But we were still determined to give our beautiful patient a shot at survival.
The code continued and we shocked Jade 2 more times unsuccessfully, with a total downtime of 14 minutes. “hey, we got lab results.” Nurse nancy called out while we continued coding our patient. “cocaine and fentanyl OD.” She continued. “fentanyl is some nasty stuff. But I guess that explains all this.” I replied, in reference to the code blue. “let’s push another round of epi and atropine, and let’s get a round of bicarb in there.” I continued. Nurse heather pushed all the requested meds intravenously.
The meds failed to obtain ROSC, but it maintained v-fib, so we decided to charge the paddles to 360 and shock jade yet again. The paddles were charged, gelled, and placed back onto her bare chest, and the next shock was delivered. Jade’s pasty, lifeless body flopped on the table in response to the shock. “still nothing, let’s hit her again.” I said. We recharged the paddles and repeated the same process. The next jolt of electricity caused jade’s limp body to twitch on the table in response, but v-fib still persisted.
The code became redundant at this point. CPR, shock, v-fib, meds, repeat. We repeated this process for several minutes, but Jade remained in v-fib. We discovered fixed and dilated pupils, and Jade has been down for 22 minutes. At that point, we ceased resuscitation efforts and called time of death at 12:39am while Jade was still in v-fib.
Nurse Nancy detached the ambu bag and gently closed Jade’s eyes for the final time. Ashley stepped away from the table since she was the one delivering compressions. Jade’s sternum tattoo looked a bit discolored from the bruising from the 22 minutes worth of violent compressions she received from us. We then shut off the chirping monitors and disconnected the EKG electrodes from her chest. We placed a toe tag on the big toe of Jade’s left foot, and then covered up her body. She was then taken up to the hospital morgue, becoming yet another drug casualty.

Safe (Home Worker Jay, Social Worker Hailey; Part of AU-gust) {Please Re-Read; Made Changes}
A/N: After some confusion, I changed the home to resemble more of Brady (Chicago PD 4x13). So if you guys wouldn't mind rereading and liking/reblogging again, that'd be great!  Thank you for reading! Remember to like/reblog and comment! I'm also donating all the proceeds that from my buy me a coffee account to Save The Children to help the children of Afghanistan. Link to buy me a coffee.
Masterlist
Jay walked down the long, dimly lit hallway and peeked into each girls' room. Because of the dim light in the hallway, there was no need to utilize the flashlight he carried with him and shin it on the floor of each room to make sure that each girl was there. He continued peeked in rooms to make sure that each girl appeared asleep. But then, he got to your room.
You were sitting on your bed, visibly shaking and covering your mouth with your hand so that your sobs wouldn't wake up the girls in the rooms next to you.
Jay quickly went to the last room and checked to make sure that all the other girls appeared asleep and then scribbled down on the piece of paper attached to his clipboard that all the girls appeared asleep...except for you.
He knocked softly on your door and you jumped. He gave a small wave and pointed inside your room, silently asking if he could come in. You didn't have much control in the girls' home you were in, so the staff was always trying to give you as much control as possible...even though you needed staff to wait outside the bathroom for you since there was a time limit, and needed them to unlock doors which were closed, since they automatically locked, hence all of your bedroom doors being propped open because staff needed to do bed checks and make sure you and the other girls were okay and where you were supposed to be.
You nodded, allowing Jay to enter your room.
"Can I turn this on?" he asked, pointing to the small lamp on your desk.
"Sure," you answered as you wiped the tears on your cheeks and drew your knees up to your chest, and then hugged them to your body.
Jay crouched in front of you. "What's wrong?" he asked. "We don't have to talk about it if you don't want to. We can just go out into the common area so you can calm down a bit and go back to sleep. Or the kitchen if you need a snack or water," he offered.
"Can I- Can I get some water?" you asked.
"Of course," Jay answered. "Do you want to come with me?"
You nodded and picked up your water bottle. You also grabbed your blanket. Jay was going to tell you to leave it on your bed, but seeing how distraught you were, he decided against it.
"You want ice?" he asked as the two of you walked to the kitchen. He unlocked the door and you followed him in.
"Yes, please," you told him and then handed him your water bottle.
"Okay, I can do that."
You stood in the kitchen area while Jay unlocked another door to get to the freezer. He propped the door open with the doorstop and then opened the freezer and put ice in your water bottle. Then he closed the freezer, kicked the doorstop away, and then walked out and closed the door behind him. Then, he grabbed you some water, screwed on the lid, handed it back to you, and the two of you left the kitchen.
"Can I stay out here for a while?" you asked quietly after you had taken a few sips of the cold water.
"You can. Just give me a minute to text Kim, okay?" he answered.
"Okay." You pulled out a chair at the table and sat down, tears still coming down your face, but a lot slower than earlier.
Seeing as there was only three staff at the home tonight and Jay had to do bed checks for his hallway, he had to text Kim to let him know that one, he was in the dining area with you because you were upset about something, and two ask her if she could do his section of bed checks until he got you to calm down and got you back in bed.
She answered quickly and said that she could do that and thanks for letting her know.
Jay put his phone away and turned his full attention to you.
"What's got you so upset?" he asked gently after he sat down next to you.
"I have a home visit tomorrow with Hailey. My first overnight one," you answered.
"Hey, that's a good thing! You're getting adopted soon!"
"But they always fall through!" you cried. "And what if I have a nightmare when I'm there?"
"Hey, hey," Jay soothed. "We'll pack your meds and you should be fine."
"But what if she doesn't want me after this home visit?"
"Y/N, I need you to listen to me." You looked at him. "Hailey's nervous too, but it's okay to be nervous because that means you're about to do something really, really brave."
"Really? She's nervous? But it's her house?"
"Mhm, it's not just you who's nervous. The adoptive parents are nervous, too because they want everything to go well just as much as you do."
You looked up at him nervously while pushing the straw of your water bottle back and forth. "Will you be there?" you asked.
He cocked his head to the side. "Will I be where?"
"At Hailey's," you stated simply.
"Why would I be there?"
"Jay, everyone knows you two are dating."
That was one thing about being a man who worked in a unit with a bunch of female coworkers and girls he had to take care of: the gossip was astronomical...even though the staff did try their best to keep it to a minimum.
"I mean, I won't dispute that fact," he began, "but I wasn't planning on being over at Hailey's tomorrow night."
"Please?" you asked. He had a confused look on his face. "Please will you stay at Hailey's tomorrow, too? You- you both make me feel safe and if something happens to either of you..."
"You want there to be another person you trust around?" he finished.
"Yes, please."
"Okay," Jay relented. "I'll talk to Hailey."
"Okay."
"Are you ready to go back to bed?" he asked.
You nodded and you went back to bed, hopeful that Jay would be at Hailey's tomorrow because then there would be two of the people you trusted most in the world. Jay was one of your favorite staff members...mostly because he rarely disciplined you and the other girls and was always approachable when you wanted to talk about anything that was going on in your head.
***
"I need to do a bag check," Kim said. You handed her your bag to check so that she could jot down what you brought with you to make sure you brought all your clothing, toiletries, and comfort items back from your overnight home visit with Hailey (and Jay).
Once she checked your bag, she handed it back to you and then turned to Hailey. "She's good to go once I get you her meds. Some need to be taken in the morning and some in the evening. Don't worry, I wrote evening and morning on the med envelopes so that you don't get them mixed up."
Hailey nodded and then Kim went to get your meds.
"You nervous?" Hailey asked you.
You looked down at your feet. "Did Jay tell you I was?"
"He didn't," Hailey said. "But, you wanna know a secret?" You nodded. "I'm a little nervous, too."
"Jay told me you were," you said.
"He's good at making people feel better, isn't he?"
"He is."
"He also mentioned that you wanted him there tonight? Do you want him to come out to dinner with us, too?" she asked.
"If that's okay with you."
"Totally fine!"
Kim came back and handed Hailey your envelopes of meds and then the two of you were off.
***
Dinner had come and gone. You went to Olive Garden where Jay met you and Hailey there. You had decided to get fettuccine alfredo and Jay and Hailey both said that you could eat as much salad and breadsticks as you wanted. They even let you get dessert!
You went back to Hailey's house and were shocked to see how nice your room was, and it was a lot bigger than the one at the home you lived at and the one Jay worked at. It was simple, but you loved it. It had a full-sized bed with a fluffy white comforter, a desk, a bookshelf  (which Hailey said that you guys could go to a bookstore tomorrow so that the bookshelf didn't look do empty), a dresser, and a closet. Hailey also said when you officially moved in in two weeks, you could go shopping for more decorations so that your room wasn't so undecorated...even though you were totally floored by it the way it was now.
Hailey made sure to give you your meds promptly at 8 pm. Then, you watched a movie, the three of you had decided to watch Tangled because Jay knew it was a good bet since it was PG and not PG-13 and if you had to choose your favorite Disney princess movie, that'd probably be it. And because some things in PG-13 movies could be triggering...for obvious reasons.
When the movie was almost done, your stomach started to hurt, but you just chalked it up to nerves because you knew you'd be sleeping soon...and that was always the worst part.
Luckily for you, Hailey had a boombox that she let you use for music. You didn't have a phone or mp3 player and at the home, everyone was given their own small radio when they came. As a peace offering of sorts from the staff to the girls. But, you forgot it for your home visit with Hailey.
"Goodnight," you said after you filled up your water bottle.
"Goodnight," both Hailey and Jay said. They said that you could wake them up any time if you needed absolutely anything. But, you hoped you wouldn't need to.
You fell into a fitful sleep, tossing and turning in both anxiousness and from the pain in your stomach. God, maybe that pasta, all those breadsticks, and dessert hadn't been as great of an idea as you had previously thought.
***
Okay, so all that food most definitely was not a great idea. Soft groans were coming out of your mouth as you tried to get comfortable and move your body around so that you didn't feel the pain in your stomach anymore.
You needed to go to the bathroom and you needed it now, so you needed to hurry so that Jay could wait outside the bathroom for you since you needed to let him know where you were going and would only get a certain amount of time in the bathroom.
You grabbed your water and slowly walked so that you didn't irritate your stomach even more. There was a lamp on in the living room, which showed you that Jay was asleep on the couch.
You padded over to the couch. "Jay,"  you whispered.
"Hmm?" Jay asked and rubbed his eyes.
"Can you come with me to the bathroom, please?"
He sat up. "Oh, Y/N, you're at home you don't have to ask."
"Oh, sorry," you quickly apologized. "Sorry for waking you up." You were so used to having someone have to accompany you to the bathroom or unlock certain doors for you, that it was going to take you a while to break that habit...especially when you were tired and not feeling so hot while also being in a new place.
"It's no big deal. I slept out here in case you needed anything anyways. It's what I'm here for."
Your stomach made a noise and then you felt bile rise in your throat. You stiffened.
Jay heard your stomach and noticed your drastic change in posture. "Y/N, what's--"
You covered your mouth and took off running toward the bathroom that was across from your bedroom.
"Shit," Jay muttered and followed you, but a lot slower.
Once you got to the bathroom, you threw the lid of the toilet open and threw yourself to your knees, just in time to empty your stomach.
Jay crouched down next to you. "I'm gonna hold your hair back, okay?"
"Uh huh," you croaked. You knew that if you didn't say yes, Jay wouldn't have held your hair back. In his job, he was trained to go along with the girls' boundaries and to not touch them unless he verbally asked them and got verbal confirmation from you girls that that said physical contact was okay.
Jay gently held your hair back while you continued to retch and spill the contents of your stomach.
"There you go," he soothed. "I'm right here. You're not alone."
When you thought you were done, you reached up and flushed the toilet. "Thank you."
"You're welcome. I'm gonna go wake up Hailey just to tell her what's going on. Feel free to get some water or brush your teeth."
You nodded and he left the bathroom. When you picked up your toothbrush, you realized what had just happened: someone had just comforted you when you were sick. That never happened before.
A tear rolled down your cheek just as Jay came back into the bathroom with Hailey.
"Oh, Y/N," she started as she walked up to you. "How bad does it hurt?"
"No, it doesn't hurt now," you said. "I just, I never had anyone comfort me or hold my hair back when I was sick before."
"Oh, honey," Hailey said as her heart broke. Then, she caught herself. "Is that one fine?" she asked, referring to pet names. She didn't want to trigger you.
"Th-That ones fine," you answered.
"Can I give you a hug?"
"Yeah," you whispered and opened your arms so that you could hug her.
"You're feeling a lot better?" Jay asked and you looked up from hugging Hailey and nodded. "So, no doctor?"
You abruptly pulled away from Hailey and backed away from both the adults. "No, no doctor. Please no doctor. Please," you pleaded.
Jay furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, but Hailey's eyes widened as she realized what he had just said.
"Honey, no, we are not taking you to the doctor, okay?" Hailey began. "We know you're feeling better, but we're just going to give you some Tums in case your stomach starts to hurt again."
"So no doctor?" you asked.
"No doctor," she confirmed.
"Thank you. I think I'm gonna brush my teeth now. My mouth tastes gross."
"Okay. Come out whenever you're ready."
Hailey reached for Jay's hand and led him out of the bathroom. He still had a look of confusion on his face while she grabbed two Tums and set them next to a cup of water for you.
"What does she mean no doctor?" Jay asked in a hushed voice.
"You know she was trafficked by her own parents, right?" Jay nodded, he had to read all the girls files when they got new girls in, but some information was left out because it could still be in the court process, or because it had something to do with family where a parent still had legal custody of the girl or for other reasons. Hailey's voice got even quieter. "A doctor was one who would you know...pay for services, um, regularly."
"So now she doesn't think she can trust any doctor," Jay finished.
"Yeah. She told me a few weeks ago. I think I'm the only one who knows that her doctor had been one of the people assaulting her."
"Now it makes sense that she had to be restrained when we told her she had to go to the doctor's for a check-up three months ago. We all just thought that she didn't want to go, but she was just really scared."
"She was a danger to herself and others," Hailey said. "You did the right thing by using restraints, even if you didn't know the reason she was acting out."
"Still, I wish I would've known. That way maybe we could've eased into talking about it more instead of just telling her she'd be going. And, she actually might've gone to the check-up if we did it that way."
"There was no way you could've known."
"I know, still makes me feel bad." He took a deep, shaky breath. "God, we take it for granted so much that we'll have at least one parent there for us, to hold our hair back and comfort us when we're sick. But, Y/N didn't have anyone, Hailey."
A few tears ran down Jay's face.
"I know," Hailey said and pulled him into a hug. "I know. But, this is what we do. In our jobs, we help these girls. We do this because we want to make the world a better and safer place for these girls, to help break the cycle. Lord knows we don't do it for the money. And, soon we'll be helping her even more. Together. Here. At home."
"You're excited for when the adoption goes through, aren't you, Hails?" Jay asked.
"Yeah, I never wanted kids because, well you know my  past history with my parents, but working with kids in social work and seeing how many of them go through multiple foster homes and other types of homes and then just age out..."
"I know, I know," Jay sympathized. "We talked about this. And you felt drawn to Y/N. I'll be there through it all with you."
"Thank you. I love you, Jay."
"I love you, too, Hails."
You sighed and then made your way into the kitchen. You didn't want to be in trouble.
"Are these the medicine?" you asked, pointing to the table where the Tums and the cup of water were.
"Yes," Hailey answered. "They're dissolvable, but I didn't know how you would like the taste, so I put the water there just in case."
Jay looked at you closely. "Hey, are you okay? Is your stomach hurting again?"
You shook your head and sat down and then took the two tablets and drank a few sips of water after.
"Just ti- tired," your voice cracked halfway through the word, immediately alerting both Jay and Hailey that something was wrong.
Jay crouched down in front of you and Hailey sat down across from you as you let out a wail.
"You're mad, you're mad, you're mad!" you bawled.
"Neither of us is mad," Hailey told you softly.
"Jay's mad! I woke him up!"
"I'm not mad, Y/N, not one bit. You're allowed to wake me and Hailey up whenever you need us or even if you just want some comfort, okay?" Jay asked as his heart broke.
"Who told you that they were mad when you woke them up?" Hailey asked gently. With her job, she knew she needed to ask some tough questions in general, but, specifically with you, she also needed to get more of your history than she already had so that she knew what your triggers were and how to help you with coping skills and other things that were beneficial to your mental health when you moved in with her.
"My parents and my first foster parents," you whispered.
"Okay," Hailey started, "I'm sorry that happened to you. We're sorry that happened to you. And we can promise you that neither of us will hit you or raise our voices at you."
At the mention of you having been hit in your past, Jay looked up at Hailey and she gave him a subtle nod, silently telling you that that had been a part of your past. He knew your parents were unfit because both their parental rights had been terminated, but he didn't know details...and now he was receiving those heartbreaking details from his girlfriend, who you seemed to open up to more than anyone else. Well, more than anyone besides the in-house therapist.
"You promise?" you asked, finally looking up from where you had your eyes trained on the table.
"I promise," said Hailey.
"You have my word," Jay echoed. He paused a few moments to let those promises sink in. "Now, if Hailey's okay with it, I say we watch another movie until you get tired. What do you say, Hails?"
"I think we can make an exception," she agreed.
"Okay, what movie?" Jay asked.
"Can we watch the Jumanji remake?" you asked. "The one with the Rock. I know it's PG-13, but it doesn't seem that bad."
Jay nodded. "Well, if anything triggers you, you just need to tell either me or Hailey so we can help you process it right away, okay?" You nodded. He looked at Hailey. "You good with Jumanji?" he asked with a humorous glint in his eye because he already knew the answer: his girl loved any movie that The Rock was in.
"Jay, you know I love The Rock. You wanna get it set up while I grab Y/N's pillow from her room?"
Jay said okay and the two of you made your way to the living room. Jay moved his pillow over so that he and Hailey could sit on the couch, while you sat on the smaller couch across from them.
Hailey came back with your pillow and a few blankets and you got all set up.
Not even halfway through the movie, you were asleep once again. But this time, your stomach ache was gone and you felt safer and more comfortable than when you had first walked into Hailey's house earlier that day.
***
"Quiet, Hails, she's still out," Jay whispered to his girlfriend as they walked out of their bedroom the next morning.
You were knocked out on the couch after getting sick and anxious last night. And Jay had decided just to go sleep with Hailey last night after everything that had happened because they were both emotionally drained and needed the other's comfort to go to sleep after Hailey had told Jay a part of your story that he hadn't known.
"What does she normally eat for breakfast?" Hailey whispered.
Jay worked a mix of first, second, and third shifts at the home, so he knew what you'd normally eat for breakfast and that after school you needed some time to recharge in your room after being with other kids all day.
"Normally bagels and cream cheese. Sometimes a banana too," Jay whispered back.
"Perfect. I don't have to cook a ton. Want me to start on coffee and then we can just drink it at the table and wait until she wakes up?"
"Sounds good to me. Don't forget her morning meds."
"I know, Jay."
"Just checking."
***
You woke up to see Jay and Hailey sitting at the table drinking something out of mugs, which you assumed was coffee.
You stretched and then got up off the couch. You remembered watching another movie last night, but don't remember finishing it, so you must've fallen asleep there and Jay and Hailey just decided to let you sleep instead of waking you up.
"Good morning," you said as you got up off the couch. "What time is it?"
Jay craned his neck to look at the clock on the oven. "8:45," he answered. "Time for your morning meds, too."
He started to stand up, but Hailey stopped him. "I got it. I need to make sure I have this down, so do you just want to cut up a bagel and pop it in the toaster? There should be chocolate chip ones in the fridge," Hailey told Jay.
"You have chocolate chip bagels?" You asked as a smile broke out on your face. "We don't have chocolate chip ones at the house."
"And, I have regular cream cheese and strawberry cream cheese, so take your pick." She paused. "Your stomach's feeling better though, right? I don't know if I want you eating this stuff if you're just gonna get sick again."
"It's not hurting anymore. I think I just ate too much," you answered. "But if you want me to eat something else—"
"Oh no," Hailey quickly cut you off. "You can eat whatever you want."
Hailey walked over to get the meds ready and Jay cut a chocolate chip bagel in half and popped it in the toaster.
"Hails, you want one?" Jay asked.
"That'd be great. Thanks, ba- Jay." She almost called him babe but didn't know if that would trigger you, so she immediately cut herself off.
"Are you gonna have one, too, Jay?" you asked.
"No, I think I'm gonna make myself some eggs," he answered you while he cut a chocolate chip bagel in half for Hailey.
"He's such a health nut," Hailey laughed as she rolled her eyes. Then, she made her way to the table and handed you a cup with your meds in it and a cup of water. You quickly took the meds and washed all of them down with the water.
"We know," you laughed as you handed the med cup back to Hailey. "He always brings his own meals to the house. And they're always salads or something else really healthy." You wrinkled your nose.
"I know, he's weird," Hailey agreed.
Then, Jay told you that your bagel was done, so you walked over to the counter and used a plastic knife to spread some strawberry cream cheese on it.
Jay's phone buzzed and he groaned. "My brother wants to meet up for lunch today."
"Well, if Y/N's comfortable with it, maybe he'd like to meet us at the bookstore and then we can all go to lunch or just meet us for lunch?" Hailey suggested.
"You're letting me decide?" You had never had this much control over anything in your life.
"Of course," Hailey began, "we want you to be comfortable with whatever you're doing."
You turned to Jay, whose attention was still on you and Hailey while he scrambled his eggs in a pan over the stove. "Is he nice?"
"Oh yeah," Jay said. "He's super nice. His name's Will and I'll even tell him to be on his very best behavior."
"Okay. Can we just have him meet us for lunch?"
"Of course," Jay agreed. "I'll shoot him a text."
***
"What kind of books do you like?" Hailey asked.
You looked up at Jay. "You didn't tell her that?"
"Nope. Some stuff I can keep a secret," he answered with a wink.
Hailey smacked him on the chest. "Jay Halstead. You are the absolute worst."
"But you love me. And you know it." Jay gave her a kiss on the cheek and you burst out laughing. "What?"
"You two. You're just so cute."
"Hear that, Hails? Y/N thinks we're a cute couple."
"Oh, quit your bragging," Hailey said and rolled her eyes. "Anyway, what's your favorite genre?"
"Uh, I really like historical fiction," you answered.
"Alright," Jay started, "towards the historical fiction we go."
"Oh, and if we go to that section, we pass their little cafe," Hailey told you. "You up for a hot chocolate or pastry?" she asked.
"You don't have to get me anything," you said quietly. "You're already getting me books."
"You know what Hails?" Jay said. "I could go for another cup of coffee and then we could drink it while we're walking around."
"That sounds like a great idea. Two coffees and then whatever drink Y/N wants."
"Okay," you relented. "But you guys don't have to keep spending money on me. I don't need much."
"Y/N, look at me," Hailey began and you looked at her, "when I decided I wanted to adopt a kid, I knew I was going to spoil them. And, it just so happened to be you. I know you're scared because everyone's left you, but me and Jay, we're in it for the long haul. You can trust us. Let us spoil you, okay?"
Tears made their way to your eyes. "Okay. Can I- Can I hug you?"
Hailey nodded. "Of course."
And as you hugged Hailey, Jay smiled because that was the first time you had asked for a hug. Before, most people had to ask you, but this time you were asking them and Jay considered that huge progress from when he first met you months and months ago.
***
You sat down next to Hailey at the little diner you decided on for lunch. Jay texted Will and told them they had gotten a table, and he said he'd be there in a few minutes.
You ordered your drinks and then a tall man with red hair and a navy blue jacket with a hospital logo on it walked towards your table. Your breath hitched.
"Hey, it's okay. That's just Will," Hailey explained.
"But- But his jacket says medical on it," you said and clenched your fists and dug your nails into the palms of your hands.
Will sat down.
"Y/N, this is Will, he's my older brother. And, he's also a doctor. But, he's a good one, I promise!" Jay told you quickly.
You swallowed as tears pricked your eyes.
"Y/N," Hailey began gently, "me and Jay wouldn't let you meet him if we didn't think he was 110% safe to be around. I promise you that Will's a good guy."
You looked up at Will to see that he had a goofy smile on his face. "Hey, kiddo."
"H-Hi," you replied quietly.
"So, Jay told me you like historical fiction and that you got hot chocolate. Did you like the hot chocolate? And what's your favorite time period to read about?"
You started talking to Will and you thought that this doctor wasn't so bad...but there was still no way in hell you'd be going to see a doctor for any kind of medical treatment any time soon.
***
Two weeks later
You grabbed all your bags and made your way out to Hailey's car. Then, you turned around and looked at the place you had called home for the past few months. Even though sometimes it didn't feel like home, you knew you were safe there, and with your past, that was what made this place a home in and of itself. You just hoped that Hailey's (and Jay's) place would be as safe as the first night you were there.
Jay was over for dinner and even though he wasn't on the official adoption papers, he went through the same extensive background checks and trainings as Hailey just because she said that he'd be over a lot.
That night, you were asleep. But, somewhere in your sleep-addled brain, you were dreaming. And it wasn't a good dream. It was a dream about your terrible parents and that terrible doctor.
"I don't give a damn!" Jay yelled. He had gone outside to take a phone call from his dad because he didn't want to wake you. But, seeing as you were a light sleeper, those words entered your nightmare.
You whimpered and tried to dodge the slap that came your way in your dream.
Jay quickly hung up the phone when he heard a thud come from inside the house and ran back inside.
You were laying on the floor and had landed with your arm in an awkward position.
You heard the thundering of footsteps coming towards your room.
Shit, you were going to be in trouble for waking Hailey and Jay up.
You scrambled back into bed and took a sip of your water to calm yourself down. But damn, your arm felt like someone had twisted it and stepped on it...much like it had felt three years ago when your dad yanked you back by the arm and twisted it behind you when you tried to run away from that doctor.
Jay slowly opened the door to see you sitting up in bed drinking some water. "Hey," he greeted. "You okay? I thought I heard a thud."
"Uh, I just dropped my water bottle," you told him, trying to hold back tears at how much your arm hurt. "Sorry if I woke you and Hailey up."
"Oh no, I was talking with my dad on the phone," he told you quickly. "You didn't wake us up. Goodnight."
"'Night, Jay."
The minute he walked out of your room, you turned on your side to face the wall and cried until you finally cried yourself to sleep because of the pain.
***
The next day, you tried your best to eat normally and not make a face at how much your arm hurt. But, best believe that when you went to the bathroom or went to change your clothes alone in your room, you cried silently to yourself.
"Hey, it's pretty nice out," Hailey stated when you walked out of your room dressed in jeans and a t-shirt after you had eaten breakfast, washed your face, and brushed your teeth. "Jay suggested a picnic and some baseball at the park nearby. Do you want to do that?"
"That sounds really nice," you said. But, you weren't looking forward to the baseball because you knew that it'd made your arm hurt. But, you didn't want to go to the doctor's either, and the lesser of two evils would be playing baseball with your arm hurting at a level ten.
"Okay, then it's settled. Ham or turkey on your sandwich for the picnic?" Jay asked.
"Ham please," you answered.
***
You played some baseball and gritted through the pain of pitching, catching, and batting and now it was time for lunch.
The three of you were sitting on a picnic blanket on the grassy area outside the baseball diamond. You took the sandwich out of the baggie and Hailey's eyebrows furrowed as she saw the bruising on the inside part of your forearm.
"Y/N, are you okay?" she asked.
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" you asked.
"I just see a bruise on your arm. Did you fall earlier when I was running to get a ball and didn't see it?"
"No. I uh, I must've just slept in a weird position last night," you told her. You knew that was a terrible excuse, but that was the only one you had at the moment.
"Okay, well we have ibuprofen at home and we can ice it there, too."
"Okay, thank you." You took another bite of your sandwich.
***
You finished your picnic and then made your way to Jay's truck. You reached up and grabbed the bar to pull yourself up into the truck easier, but cried out when you pulled.
Jay dropped the picnic basket.
"Y/N!" he yelled and ran up to one side of you and Hailey ran up to the other.
You cradled your right arm in your left hand. "It- It's nothing," you said quickly. "I think I just pulled a muscle or something."
"Honey, can I take a look?" Hailey asked.
"I- I don't want to go to the doctor's! Please don't make me go! Please!" you cried.
"Honey, I'm just going to look at it. Then we'll see if we need to go. And, we can always call Jay's brother, Will, and make sure he's the one who treats you. But we don't even know if you need to go to the doctor yet, so please, just let me see your arm."
You reluctantly held your arm out to her. Jay looked, too.
"I think we need to take her in, Hails," Jay said.
You ripped your arm away from Hailey, causing you to scream out in pain. "No! I'm fine!"
"Y/N, you are not fine," Jay said. "Please just let us take you to the doctor's."
"No!" you yelled again.
"Can you tell me why?" Jay asked, employing a tactic he used in the home when girls didn't want to do things. "Maybe make me understand why?"
"He hurt me there!" you yelled. "Every time I went to the doctor, he gave my dad free visits to look at me in exchange for- for--" you wailed and crashed into Hailey's arms.
You gripped her t-shirt tightly with your good hand while you bawled your eyes out.
"Shh, shh, it's okay. It's okay. He's not here. He's in prison. He can't physically hurt you out here, Y/N. And, if we go to the doctor, we'll make sure that it's Will who treats you and we'll be there the whole time," Hailey soothed.
You sniffled and then looked up at her. "You promise you'll be there the entire time?"
"I promise," Hailey confirmed.
You looked at Jay. "You too?"
"You have my word," he agreed.
***
Jay called Will and told him that the three of you would be coming into Chicago Med to look at your arm because he and Hailey thought that you broke it and that they needed Will to treat you because you didn't trust anybody else.
When you walked into the hospital, tears pricked your eyes and you grabbed Hailey's hand with your good one.
"I- I changed my mind," you said quickly. "I don't want to go to the doctor. It'll heal by itself like the other one."
Hailey didn't know what "other one" you were talking about, but she let that part of the sentence go.
"Y/N, honey, we need to make sure you're safe and healthy. And getting you treatment for a broken bone is part of that." She looked at Jay, silently asking him for some help.
"We'll be right there the entire time," Jay promised once again.
"But- But what if you have to leave? I don't wanna be alone in there! I don't!" you cried.
"And you won't. We'll both be there. And if one of us has to leave for whatever reason, then the other will stay. You can trust us. I know it's hard, but I promise you Y/N—me and Hailey both promise you—that you can trust us. We wouldn't have these jobs if you couldn't trust us."
Jay looked up when he heard someone clear their throat. He saw Will standing there.
When you saw Will, this time in hospital scrubs instead of jeans, a t-shirt, and his Chicago Med sweatshirt, you gripped Hailey's hand even tighter.
"Hey, Y/N," Will greeted. "Jay told me you're having problems with your arm? I bet it hurts really bad."
"No, I'm fine," you argued.
"Okay, well..." he paused and moved a hand from behind his back, which was holding a bowl that contained an ice cream sandwich. It was chocolate ice cream squished between two chocolate chip cookies. "I have this ice cream sandwich here for you. Why don't you eat this with your good arm while I take a look at the other one?"
You shyly nodded and let go of Hailey's hand and took the bowl from Will's outstretched hand. "Thank you," you said quietly.
"You're welcome. Now right this way, please."
Will let you into a treatment room and Hailey helped you up on the bed.
"Alright, so Y/N, this is April," Will said as he introduced the nurse who walked in. "She'll be helping me out and taking your vitals."
April would've made a joke about how she'd be doing all the work, but seeing how nervous you were, she didn't."
"But you- you said that Will would be treating me. You promised!" you yelled and looked at Hailey and Jay.
"Y/N, all April's doing is helping Will out. Doctors need help, too," Hailey reassured.
"I'll be really gentle. Okay, sweetie?" April said.
You shoved yourself back into the bed, almost whacking your head on the wall.
"No! No! Don't hurt me! Please, don't!" you yelled.
All four of the adults in the room shared a look.
Hailey cursed. "It was the pet name," she figured out quickly. "One of them must've called her that before."
She knelt down next to the hospital bed, where you were visibly shaking.
"Y/N, I need you to take a few deep breaths with me. In and out," Hailey said.
"I can't! I can't!" you wailed.
"Yes, you can. Just like this." Hailey breathed in and out deeply.
"We can always administer medication if needed," Will suggested.
"Yeah, no," Jay said quickly. "You won't be doing that."
He pulled your emergency inhaler for times like these out of his pocket and pulled it out of the small box. Then he uncapped it and handed it to Hailey.
Once you took two more deep breaths, she held it up to you. "Can you take three puffs for me, Y/N? Just three puffs," she said.
You nodded and put the inhaler to your lips, allowing Hailey to push down on the button, which resulted in you getting some much-needed oxygen into your lungs.
"Better?" Hailey asked when you handed it back to her.
You nodded. "Thanks for having it, Jay."
"You're welcome." He put the inhaler back in the box and then back into his pocket.
Will pulled up a stool and sat on it. Hailey was still right in front of you, but Will was next to her and looking directly at you.
"Y/N, what April's gonna do is just listen to your heart and lungs with a stethoscope just like I have." He touched the stethoscope that was dangling from around his neck. "And then she's going to take your blood pressure by wrapping that around your good arm and squeezing the red thing." He pointed to the blood pressure cuff that was hanging in the room. "And then, I'll take a look at your arm. While she does that, I'll go grab you another ice cream sandwich because I'm pretty sure the other one is melted. Does that sound okay?"
You nodded, thankful that Will was explaining everything to you.
***
Fifteen minutes later, Will was back with your ice cream sandwich. He apologized for taking so long and said he had to argue with a cafeteria worker to make sure he got chocolate ice cream and not vanilla ice cream on it. But, he got it, so that's all that mattered.
He handed you the bowl and you took the ice cream sandwich out with your good hand and took a bite.
"How is it?" Will asked with a smile.
"It's really, really good. Thank you," you answered and took another bite.
"Good. Now, can you try and hold your arm out me?"
You hissed as you straightened your arm to hold it out to him.
"No, no," Will said quickly. "If it hurts to straighten all the way, don't do it." You nodded. "I'm just going to hold your arm with one of my hands and feel around it. Tell me where the most pain is. Do you want some pain medication?"
"No, no needles," you said. "Last time it made me sleep and then I couldn't feel my body."
If Will wasn't working he would've froze because he knew what you were talking about. Jay did, too, and Hailey squeezed his hand to silently tell him to stay calm.
That doctor who had previously assaulted you had drugged you with Rohypnol.
"We can give it to you in pill form," Will suggested. "Is that okay?" You nodded and Will turned to Jay. "What medications is she on?"
Jay rattled off the list of medications and then Will said something to April and then she handed you three pills and a cup of water. You took them.
"They should start to work in fifteen minutes," April told you.
You nodded and then yelped when Will gently pressed down on the inside of your forearm. "Right there?" he asked.
"Mhm," you gritted out as tears came to your eyes again.
"Well, the good news is, we're gonna get an x-ray and you won't have to have me push on your arm anymore," Will told you. You nodded. "Can you tell me how this happened?"
You looked up at Jay. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you." Jay furrowed his eyebrows. "I fell out of bed because of a- because of a nightmare. I told you it was my water bottle. I'm sorry!"
"Hey, hey, it's okay," Jay soothed quickly. "But can I ask why you didn't want to tell me?"
"I didn't want to see a doctor. And I thought you'd be mad and bring me back to the home."
"Oh, honey," Hailey interjected. "We'd never do that. You're my kid forever now."
"Yours, too?" you asked looking at Jay once more.
"You're not mine on paper, but I promise you that I'll keep you safe," he answered.
"But can I be your kid? Eventually?" You asked.
Hailey put her arm around Jay's waist. "You know what, babe? I think getting you to adopt her, too would be great. What do you say?"
"I'd love nothing more," he said with a huge grin on his face.
"Hate to break up this little moment," Will began, "but we gotta get her down for x-rays. Based on where it is, I think she broke her ulna."
April stepped forward. "If you'd follow me, that'd be great."
You looked at Hailey and Jay. "Will you guys come, too?"
Jay looked at his older brother, who gave him and Hailey a slight nod.
"Of course we will, honey," Hailey said.
"Because you said you'd be with me the entire time and because you said you'd keep me safe?" you asked as Hailey helped you down.
"Precisely, kiddo, precisely," Jay said.
And for the first time in your fifteen years of life, you finally found a home that you felt safe in, all thanks to Hailey and Jay.
A/N: Again, I changed a bit of this because some people were a bit confused and, I figured if I modeled the home after Brady, you guys would have a better time imagining it. Katsaridaphobia
ER Nurse Rafe x ER Nurse Reader
Sooo this is disgusting but it actually happened to me and I need to write an ER Nurse Rafe fic. I apologize in advanced.
But WARNING: this fic is not for the faint of heart. Mentions of a bug in a body cavity.
Also, I just want to mention: there are very few things that gross me out any more and even this wasn’t that bad for me when it happened, but it is for y/n because every nurse has a thing that still freaks them the fuck out. (Mine is eyeballs. Like exophthalmos or any time an eye is like not properly in its socket lol)
It was a Friday evening and you were SLAMMED in the emergency department. And as a new grad nurse you still struggled with your time management, so you, especially, were drowning.
Rafe having had a few years under his belt was barely breaking a sweat, while you as a people pleaser on the other hand, had a hard time cutting a patient off from telling you their life story. So Rafe noticed you struggling and of course, hated seeing you stressed.
Last time you were at work, Rafe had extra time so he looked at your patients’ charts and what needed to be done for your patients and just did it.
...You were pissed. You told Rafe you could never learn if you didn’t struggle and how you didn’t want your boyfriend helping you like that at work. That you wanted ownership over your nursing practice.
So tonight, Rafe came over to you as you were starting an IV, “you want me to hang your antibiotics for you for bed 4? Then, I can swab 6 and insert the foley for 9?”
“Rafe! Did you not hear anything I said last time?! I need to do stuff myself, I don’t need my hot shot boyfriend coming to save the day like I’m some damsel in distress. Treat me like another frickin nurse on the floor and not your girlfriend!” You all but yelled at him while your patient laid practically unconscious on the gurney as you started his IV.
“Wow. Okay. I was just trying to help. And for the record, I would have tried to help you catch up regardless of us dating because like it or not babe, you’re a new grad and frankly, you’re falling behind. So if you’re not gonna let me help you, you better step it up. But no worries, I heard you loud and clear.” Rafe shot back at you before he turned and left.
You immediately felt guilty. Rafe was just trying to help and you know he would have offered it, even if you weren’t his girlfriend. But you also became even more pissed. 1. Because you were stressed 2. You know he threw some of what he said in there because he was pissed too.
The rest of the shift you and Rafe kept sending each other dirty looks when you’d pass each other. But Rafe still had to stop himself from trying to help you. Instead, he focused on helping every other nurse on the floor.
At one point, you got another admission. An older homeless gentleman who had a whole mess of issues in addition to the fact that he was NOT well-taken care of. He had scabies which already gave you the heebie jeebies and then this happened:
“Okay sir, we got you set up with pain meds, fluids, antibiotics and a sandwich. Is there anything else I can do for you right now?” You asked.
“Well, there’s just something in my ear thas buggin me. Can ya look at it?” He asked, gesturing to his ear.
“Sure, let me look.” And as you flashed your pen light over his ear your heart dropped. You saw legs? And …wings? Oh my god. That is the ass of a cockroach sticking out of this mans ear.
Cockroaches were your BIGGEST fear. You immediately leaned back and shut your eyes tightly.
“Well? Is der somethin in there?” Your patient asked.
“Mhmm. Yeah…. There’s definitely something in there. I’m going to try to get it out. Let me go get some supplies.” You said, trying to remain as calm as possible.
You scurried toward the supply room where Rafe and Estephany were chatting. You closed the door behind you and they both looked at the distressed look on your face as you leaned your back against the door and took a deep breath.
“My patient has a cockroach in their ear and I have to get it out!” You blurted out quickly, mostly to Estephany because you weren’t talking to Rafe.
Estephany looked horrified. Rafe looked amused knowing you had an irrational fear of the insect after you screamed bloody murder and jumped on top of him when you saw one scurrying near dumpster as you walked downtown on a date once.
“Ewwww! That’s disgusting! How does that even happen?!” Estephany asked.
“I don’t know but I can’t do this.” You whined.
“Wish I could help you girl, but I’m taking my patient to CT.” Estephany said and left quickly and frankly did not sound sorry at all that she couldn’t help.
Rafe just stayed in his spot leaning against a shelf with his arms crossed and an expression on his face that told you he was both still mad, but also amused because he knew what was coming.
“Rafe?” You asked softly.
“What? Are you ready to apologize for yelling at me earlier?” He asked.
“No.” You declared indignantly and offended that he expected an apology.
“Oh, mkay then, have fun getting a cockroach out of your patient’s ear, rookie. I hope it’s not alive.” He said, starting to walk past you.
“Rafe wait. ...please? Can you help me?” You begged, not able to fake a tough front anymore.
“I’m sorry, I thought you didn’t want your hot shot boyfriend helping you at work?” He asked using your words against you.
You glared at him and let your shoulders fall as you took a deep breath, “Rafe, come on, you know this is my worst fear.”
His face softened ever so slightly, but he didn’t say anything. You swallowed your pride and pushed away your attitude that always made it hard for you to apologize.
“I’m sorry. ...I’m sorry I yelled at you and I know we all help each other here and that I especially am supposed to ask for help as a new nurse. I just get self-conscious when it’s you who’s helping me because even though no one knows about us yet, I don’t like feeling like I need my boyfriend’s help being a nurse. It’s just something I still need to work on.” You finished and peeked up at him and he offered you a small smile.
“I know. And I know you were stressed back there. I really did hear you the other day. I’m not going to help you more or do you things for you that you should do yourself just because were dating. I really am helping you with stuff I would help anyone with. You’re a badass nurse, but you really do need to ask for help before you get to the point that you’re drowning like you were tonight. We all need to ask for help, it’s not something you need to be ashamed of.”
“I know. ...Thank you.” You said sweetly.
“Alright, come on, let’s go pull this roach out of your guy’s ear.” Rafe said guiding you out of the supply room with his hands squeezing your shoulders.
“But you’re gonna do it, right?” You asked.
“Only because I’m scared you might literally pass out trying.” Rafe said.
“Thanks for always saving me Rafe.”
“You don’t need to be saved, Y/N. But I will always be here for you, promise.”
You let your heart melt before you remembered what you and Rafe needed to go do, so you squeezed his hand and then took a deep breath.
“Okay Joe, this is Rafe. He’s gonna help us get that thing in your ear out.”

Boy Troubles
Pairing: Connor Rhodes x reader
Summary: Y/N and Connor have liked each other for a while, but both are afraid to take the first step. Then, one day, Connor sees how close Y/N is to Jay, and he decides to make a move so that he doesn’t lose her
Requested: Yes, by anonymous
Warnings: brief mention of blood and bullets/being shot at
Word Count: 1,484 Words
Tumblr media
“Hey,” Connor said and ran up to me in the ED. “Thanks again for taking me home the other night.”
I laughed. “No problem. You were in no state to drive. How were you that drunk? You had like 2 beers.”
“Oh shut up,” Connor joked and shoved me away playfully. “And for your information, I had 2 beers and a few too many shots.”
“Sure,” I joke and take a tablet from the nurses’ station. My eyes then looked over to Connor, and when I saw him, I smiled. His hair was a bit disheveled, and his eyes were a bit red from what seemed to be sleep loss, but other than that, he looked perfect. Yes, I’ll admit, I had a crush on my co-worker. I was the first one to greet him when he started at Chicago Med, and I worked with him on his first case here. That’s when we learned we actually worked pretty well together. It was great for awhile, but he eventually moved up to being a Cardio fellow, and since then, we hadn’t seen much of each other. So, whenever we went out to Molly’s after our shift together, or had cases together in the ED, I was delighted.
“L/N! Rhodes! Incoming!” Maggie shouted as 2 paramedics burst through the ambulance bay doors.
“What have we got?” Connor asked.
“His name is Mitch Randall. Intelligence has been chasing him for the past few days,” Jay answered and appeared next to the paramedic. That’s when I looked Jay over, and I saw that he was bleeding.
“Hey. What happened?” I ask him.
“Randall shot at us. I’ll be fine,” Jay assured me. “The bullet barely grazed me.”
“I’ll be the judge of that. Connor, you got him?” I question and nod to Randall.
“Uh, yeah. Are you sure you don’t want to help me out?” Connor asked.
“April is fully capable of taking my place. I’m going to get Jay checked out,” I say. Connor sighed, but brought the gurney into the nearest trauma room while I took Jay into the room next to Connor and put on some latex gloves.
“So that’s the guy you like?” Jay asked me.
“W-what?” I stammer out. “Who said that?”
“I could tell by the way you acted around him. And Will also gossips a lot,” Jay added and took off his shirt so that I could get a better look at his side. The cut wasn’t too deep, so it wouldn’t need stitches, but I did have to bandage it.
“Yeah, well, he doesn’t like me back,” I state and press my hand against Jay’s side to stop it from bleeding. “So it’s not like it matters how I feel.”
“You’re joking, right? Connor totally likes you,” Jay said as I cleaned out his cut, causing him to flinch.
“Sorry,” I murmur and place some gauze against his skin, using some medical tape to keep it in place. “There. All done.” Just then, Connor walked into the room, and his eyes darted between me and Jay, who was still shirtless. For a few seconds, everyone was silent, and the awkwardness in the room was at an all time high. Finally, Connor turned to Jay.
“Your guy is going to be fine. The bullet was a through and through, and it didn’t hit anything major. Someone’s stitching him up right now, and after about an hour of observation, you guys can get him out of here,” Connor explained.
“Thanks,” Jay spoke and pulled his shirt back on, wincing as he moved to pull it over his head.
“Oh, um, your side looks fine. Just change the gauze every so often, and take some pain killers if you need them. Knowing you though, you’ll probably want to tough it out,” I say.
Jay laughed. “You know me so well. Uh, Will and I our going to Molly’s tonight. You guys are more than welcome to join.”
“That sounds fun,” I tell Jay and turn to Connor. “You in?”
“Yeah,” Connor declared. “I’ll be there.”
“Great. I’ll see you both there,” Jay noted and left the trauma room, leaving Connor and I to stand around in awkward silence again.
“So,” Connor started. “You and Jay.”
“What about me and Jay?” I ask and begin to clean up the mess I had made.
“How long have you guys been together?” Connor questioned.
I stifled back a laugh as I tossed my gloves into the waste bin. “You think Jay and I are together?”
“Well I mean, yeah. It’s pretty obvious based on the way you act around him,” Connor stated.
“Jay and I are just friends,” I clarify. “We’ve been close ever since we were kids. I lived a few houses down from him and Will.”
“But you were just standing in here with him shirtless. He’s got a great physique, and you were acting like everything was completely normal,” Connor pointed out.
“One, seeing people shirtless is part of the job,” I claim. “And two, it’s not the first time I’ve seen him shirtless. The amount of times Jay has been in this hospital is insane.”
“Oh,” Connor muttered, clearly embarrassed by the conversation. I could even see his cheeks flushing a little bit.
“However, I do have my eyes on someone,” I tell Connor and glance up at him through my eyelashes. And with that, I left the room, leaving Connor slightly confused behind me.
That night, I was getting ready to head to Molly’s. I decided on a pair of black skinny jeans, a light blue cropped blouse, and my white converse. Once I was finally ready, I climbed into my car and drove to Molly’s. When I got there, Jay and Will were sitting at the bar.
“Hey. We ordered you a drink,” Will said and handed me a beer.
“Thank you,” I respond and take the beer bottle from his hand. “Is Connor here yet?”
Will shook his head. “Not yet. But I’m sure that because you asked him to come, he’ll be here.”
“What is with you and Jay both thinking he likes me? He doesn’t,” I remark and swallow a mouthful of beer.
“But he does,” Will pointed out. “If you weren’t blind, you’d see that.” Just then, Connor walked through the front door, and when I saw him, a grin spread across my face. Connor’s eyes then met mine, and he smiled when he caught my gaze. I could myself blushing, but at the moment, I didn’t care.
Later that night, I was taking a breather outside. I inhaled a breath of fresh air, letting in sit in my lungs for a second before breathing it back out. There was a slight chill in the air, but it didn’t bother me too much. As I was taking in my surroundings, the door to Molly’s opened, and Connor stepped outside.
“Hey,” Connor said and stood next to me. “What are you doing out here?”
“Just getting some air,” I reply. “And giving myself a break from Will and Jay. They’re a handful sometimes.”
Connor chuckled softly. “You’re not wrong. Um, listen, about what I said earlier with you and Jay.”
“It’s cool. It didn’t bother me, and it shouldn’t bother you,” I exclaim.
“What do you mean by that?” Connor asked. I took a deep breath and turned to Connor, and before I could stop myself, I reached up, cupped his cheeks with my hands, and pressed my lips to his. For a second, he didn’t kiss back, so I was going to pull away, but Connor responded right after, moving his lips in sync with mine. He rested his hands on my waist, bringing me closer to him to where there was almost no space between us. When I ran out of breath, I pulled away, and Connor rested his forehead against mine. “I did not see that coming. But I’m glad it did.”
I smiled. “You don’t know how long I’ve been wanting to do that. Can we do it again?”
“Of course,” Connor mumbled and kissed me again, this time with a little more passion than before. I grinned against his lips, loving the way they felt against my own.
“We should probably keep this a secret from Jay, and definitely Will for a bit. He’s quite the gossip,” I disclose.
“All right. But if I have the sudden urge to kiss you at work, I won’t be able to stop myself,” Connor admitted.
“If that’s how our relationship gets out to our co-workers, it’s fine by me. It’ll be less of a hassle,” I point out.
Connor laughed. “Good point. You ready to get back inside?”
“Not yet. Lets just stand here for a moment,” I say and wrap my arms around him. Connor returned the hug and sat his chin on top of my head.
“Anything for you, Y/N,” Connor hummed.

The Night Demon
Akutagawa (BSD) x GN! Reader
Warnings: past injuries, blood, a wee bit of angst. No beta we die like Oda. Akutagawa supremacy you all.
Authors Note: This is the first time I write for a show, and also the first time since highschool that I write something of this length in english (yes, it’s not my first language and it shows). Anyways, of course my first one-shot would be for the angry anemic gremlin as I love him very very much. Also, @theodora3022 you fuel my Akutagawa obssession so if this sucks I’m blaming you (jk... unless?)
Tumblr media
The path of your recovery had not been an easy one, to no one’s surprise: taking a sucker-punch (worth the considerable sum of 1 million yen) to the head from an extravagant multi-millionaire really can take a toll on the body. Not that Akutagawa didn’t know that, given the fact that he also had faced the wrath of the Guild’s leader, but still he couldn’t help the one-hour-long reprimand he gave you once you finally woke up in a Port Mafia’s hospital bed after being out for almost a month.
Was his concerned angry scolding helping with your throbbing headache (that, by the way, was getting worse with every word he said)? Nope.
Would you jump in front of your boyfriend to block a glowing fist using your face just to see the adorable angry pout he made after finishing his speech all over again? Most definitely.
Now, it’s been two months since you left the hospital, and though half of your face is still purple and touch sensitive, you're in way better shape than before (not that you know how you looked like, but the face Akun made when you asked if he had any photos of your face while you were unconscious gave you the hint that it wasn’t a pretty picture and that you probably shouldn’t touch that topic again. There goes your morbid curiosity).
Of course, your boyfriend has been attached to the hip with you all through your recovery, partly because he is afraid that you’ll pull out some borderline suicidal thing like that again (Dazai-san would be proud, though), and partly because THE one time he left you alone to go on a mission he came back to your body collapsed on the floor. Apparently bending down to pick the remote is considered “sudden movement” when you have been punched in the face.
But you’re not complaining: Akun’s company is always quality company, and though he has a bizarre unique way of showing how much he cares and longs for you (Exhibit A: all of the pictures he has of you in his phone are actually group pictures he has cropped out so they only have you in them (except for that one picture you have with Dazai, but we don’t talk about that)), you know that this man ADORES you and would go to the ends of earth for you, even if that means sacrificing that magnificent and sublime time of the day when he gets to dote on you after dealing with whatever task the Port Mafia asked him to do, a.k.a. bedtime. Why? Because with you sleeping face up and passed out in painkillers, cuddles and pillow talk are the equivalent of hugging a dead amoeba, and though Ryunosuke Akutagawa is awkward, he is not THAT awkward.
But that night you hadn’t taken your painkillers, given the fact that you’d had a doctor’s check-up earlier that day, and you have been cleared from the meds to see how well you were doing without those happy little pills. And though the pain was tolerable, it was still there, so you went to sleep earlier than your usual hour (also, Akun was on a mission and the remote had fallen to the floor and you really didn’t want to scare him again but there was also a limit to how many murder documentaries you could watch without having the power to change the channel).
You woke up later in the early hours of the night to the feeling of pure dread that you have when you know someone is watching you.
Of course, you didn’t open your eyes: you didn’t want to face whatever entity you know was looming over your supposedly sleeping body. Or at least you tried not to open them until you felt a long, cold finger reaching the underside of your... nose?
You slowly opened your eyes, afraid that if you made any sudden movements you would disturb the eerie calm that surrounded the mannerisms of the creature (?), and once your pupils finally got used to the gloom of the room, you had to suppress your laugh, because right above you, supported by Rashoumon and holding a finger under your nose, was none other than your boyfriend.
“Akun?” you whispered.
“Yes, dove?” he said back just as low, still not breaking his composure.
“What, and I cannot stretch this enough, in the everloving hell are you doing?”
“I’m checking your vitals”
“Oh, cool. Wait, what?” you asked dumbfounded, finally breaking whatever trance you both were in.
“I was making sure you were still breathing, dove” Akun said as it was the most obvious thing in the world to check if your significant other was not dead in their sleep. And they say romance is dead.
“...”
“...”
“Akun?”
“Yes, dove?”
“Why were you making sure I was still breathing?”
He didn’t give you an answer. Instead, you could see his face darken (thank you, moonlight) while he turned his face to the side with a pout.
“Akun, look at me, please”
With a sigh, he turned his face to you, and the worry in his eyes broke your heart a little. “Does this have anything to do with my accident?” you asked him, voice laced with a sweetness fueled by his concern, because even though he will never say it outloud, you knew that not that deep inside he blamed himself for what had happened to you. “Love, you know that what happened was 100% my decision, right? And I would do it again and again and again if it means you leave the fight safe and sound”.
“But I can take it! I’ve had way worse! And I know that you’re not weak, please don’t take me wrong, but I know pain, I’ve been through that before! For God’s sake, my job is literally being the Port Mafia’s dog!” Akutagawa was getting agitated by the minute. “And I was the one who had to see and HEAR your face break. I was the one who had to carry your limp body out of the fight. I was the one who had to see your face covered in your own blood. I was the one who had to hear the doctors talk about how you were unresponsive to their tests” Akutagawa was not holding back now, and you were able to see the track his tears were leaving in his pale cheeks. “And I was the one who had to see your face so beaten up that, even though the doctors had already finished their jobs, it was unrecognizable” he ended with a choked sob and that’s when it hit you: why he wouldn’t show you any pictures of the time you were in the hospital, or why he had accidentally unleashed Rashoumon when he found you passed out in the floor, or why he had taken only a few missions ever since you left the hospital.
You were his favourite person, he had almost lost you and what’s even worse, he had to watch.
“Akun, I’m sorry. I’m so very sorry” you managed to choke out through your sobs, tears of your own falling through your face. But he knew what you meant:
Sorry for worrying you like that. Sorry for scaring you. Sorry for almost leaving you alone.
“Promise me you’ll never pull something like that again. I can’t afford to lose you, dove. You don’t get to make me fall in love with you and then disappearing from my life just like that”
And if those words didn’t get to you, then his eyes sure did: even through the tears, you could see the desperation and fear in them that would get loose if something bad should happen to you, the person he loves the most. Your heart broke a little bit more.
“I promise” you could see how Akutagawa’s body relaxed at your statement. “But if there’s no stopping you from taking the blows for me, then you at least have to let me take care of you, and you also need to start taking better care of yourself, Akun. Don’t you think you have suffered enough, my love?” You added tenderly, using both hands to wipe out the remnants of his tears carefully.
“You know I can’t promise you that, and I can take it. I can be strong for both of us”
“Then at least try, for me. And are you calling me weak?” you teased, as the mood was much lighter than before after your promise.
“No, and I’ll think about it” You had to give it to the guy: he must really love you if he was willing to compromise with you over this.
“Why is it that I have to promise you something but you have to think about it?”
“I’m your superior”
“Are we not going to address the fact that you still have your finger in my nose even though the way I’m arguing with you right now should be enough proof that not only I’m breathing but alive?”
“...”
“...”
“Ok, I’ll try”
BONUS 1:
“Akun?”
“Yes, dove?”
“Why check up on me now? The accident was 3 months ago... Did something happen that made you worry?”
“...”
“This isn’t the first time you check on me while I’m sleeping”
“This isn’t the first time I check on you while you’re sleeping”
“You really need to work on your love language, my dear”
BONUS 2:
“Akun?”
“Yes, dove?”
“Did you know that at first I thought you were my sleep paralysis demon?”
“What?”
“What?”
“Shut up and go to sleep” he scolded you, hugging your arm so he would not accidentally hurt your face. Not the best cuddle replacement but at least it didn’t feel like a dead amoeba anymore.

smol hc: Being the only RK models, CyberLife used some of Markus's base code in Connor's program. Emotions & empathy for social integration, and also some caretaking protocols in case emergency repairs/first aid are needed on the job (IE reactivating the Traci at the Eden Club, or diagnosing & "treating" Hank's ethylic coma LOL). I love the idea of Con getting to take care of Markus for once if he gets injured doing Rebel Leader Things™
🥺 Anon. I love this HC so much. Connor having some caretaker protocols is...yes. Absolutely. The jury is out and they find the defendant correct.
___
When Markus limped into his office, practically hopping on one foot every other step, all he wanted to do was bulldoze through his paperwork so he could go home and forget today ever happened. He’d taken a pretty hard hit earlier when a counter protester at their rally thought it was just a capital idea to hurl a brick into the crowd. Much more surprising than the sudden brick to the knee, though, was the (almost terrifying in it’s rapidness) reaction from the crowd. The guy was immediately apprehended and cursed out by human supporters and androids alike. It was wild. His bodyguards barely had to do any work. Markus swore he heard a human yell that thirium shots were on them after this, amidst a chorus of responding cheers. Nothing brings people together like a communal ass whoopin’? Apparently??
God he really hoped that human didn’t drink any thirium. Markus still had nightmares about Leo accidentally mixing up his blue raspberry jello shot with his drink, nevermind the fact that thirium consumables smelled like laundry detergent and poison as purposeful deterrents.
“Are you sure you don’t want to go see the technician?” said Simon who, as his designated babysitter while North and Josh handled the fallout of the rally, followed into his office after him.
“Naaahh,” Markus drawled, waving the hand that was grasping a pen as if he could wave away the problem altogether. Not for the first time he wished the government would catch up with the rest of the world and just go paperless. Reading over and signing these tedious documents would be a lot less painful to do if they would just let him download it into his mind like a sensible person would. “I barely feel it, plus my Regenerative Program has already kicked in. By the time I get to the med bay it’ll probably be all fixed.”
“Uh huh,” Simon unconvinced at him. “How long till you’re repaired.”
Markus pulled up the damage report in his HUD. “About six…”  he stared at the readings for a moment longer and, much to Simon’s chagrin, went back to doing his paperwork.
“...six what?”
“Bahhh,” Markus waved his hand again unhelpfully. Truthfully, he didn’t know how to make this sound better. Hopefully, his innate charm would cover for his trash convincing. “Ya know…”
“No. I do not know. What is it? Six minutes?”
Markus grunted.
“Hours!?”
Markus slumped lower in his chair. “Mmmhumph.”
“....Markus,” Simon started in a low warning voice. “If it’s days so help me I’m going to take out your other knee - ”
The door slammed open, startling Simon out of his threat, which was definitely about to escalate to more than Markus’ other knee once he found out it was six weeks.
“Connor!”
“Good morning Simon,” Connor greeted briskly, expression stormy as he made a beeline for Markus like the man possesses on a mission that he usually was. He was swinging a rather large, rather ominous looking tool box with a red medical cross painted on it. Markus didn’t even stop doing his paperwork. He knew the drill by now. “I heard about what happened and came as fast as I could.”
“Wow, the news has only been out for an hou - wait. Weren’t you in Ohio?”
“Yes. I would have been here sooner but traffic was heavier than usual and the family driving the Escalade was surprisingly insistent on going the speed limit. A majority of police officers won't cite drivers for going between 1-5 miles per hour over,” Connor rolled his eyes and scoffed, like he didn’t follow some laws down to the letter while blatantly disregarding others at any given time.
“Wha - did you hitchhike all the way here!?”
“Oh no of course not! There is a 46% chance of violent or criminal conduct committed against people who hitchhike.”
“Then how - ”
“I was sitting on top of the aforementioned Escalade.”
Markus gave him his best ‘why are you like this’ stare while Simon gaped in perplexion. “You didn’t need to car surf just to come all the way down here, hon.”
“After hearing about the state you were in, with all my love in the world I violently disagree.”
Markus sighed like a man whose knee wasn’t sparking and twitching at this very moment. And...hm. Maybe it did ache. A teeny bit. Whatever. He was still of the opinion that rubbing some dirt on it and a little stretching was enough to get him through the rest of the day.
“Well, maybe you can help me convince him to go to the technician,” said Simon.
“No need.” Without preamble, Connor plopped the heavy med(?) box on the floor and gently lifted Markus’ leg, hiking up his pants up to the thigh. As he examined it, intense as any jeweler examining a rare diamond, he hooked the back of a nearby stool with his foot and pulled it over, resting the leg on it. Markus neither struggled nor visually reacted; just kept stringently doing his paperwork like nothing was going on.
When Connor pulled out a collapsible creeper seat and rolled under Markus’ leg as if he were a mechanic working on a car, Simon went from passive observer to concernedly going around the desk to see what all the RK800 was doing.
“H-hey wait a second! Connor - it’s a pretty serious wound, maybe we should let the professionals handle it!”
Connor rolled slightly from under Markus with a large drill in his hand and an unimpressed look on his face. Surprisingly, Simon was not reassured by this in the slightest. “I assure you Simon that I am fully equipped with the latest caretaking protocols now could you please pass me that monkey wrench.”
“What seriously- UHH! I mean...” Realizing how insulting that sounded, Simon hurried to hand Connor the tool, clearing his throat. “I didn’t realize you had such uh...versatile programing.”
“It’s the same base code used in mine, actually,” Markus added, using his free hand to pat Connor’s soothingly when he heard him grumbling things like “I can do more than kill things” and “No one has been irreparably maimed in my Knitting Circle”. Damn right honey, Markus thought, Greta and Patrica have had nothing but nice things to say about you’re wool socks.
“Oh riiiiiight. You two are from the same model line, I…” Markus could practically Jedi Sense Simon about to say ‘I forget that sometimes’, so he looked up at the PL600 and shook his head firmly with glaring eyes. Simon, sheepish, held up his hands placatingly and held his tongue.
“The code...has been streamlined to cater more towards field and emergency repairs,” Connor admitted reluctantly, but then quickly added, “but combined with my own personal research outside of my programming, it is no less effective.”
Eager to keep his foot out of his mouth, Simon merely nodded in agreement. He couldn’t, however, keep the growing alarm showing from his face as Connor pulled more and more absurd tools out of his box (the electric saw was particularly disconcerting), and started contorting around Markus so that he wasn’t interfering with his work in ways that at first, seemed normal, but were steadily becoming more on par with a cirque du soleil act. That alarm changed into bewilderment when he tilted Markus’ chair back, put a car jack under his desk so that it tilted forward at the perfect writing level, put a pillow behind his head and a fizzy thirium drink (complete with a fun crazy straw) in his mouth. His standard office setup now suddenly a mini spa.
When Connor started working a polisher to his knee Markus practically melted back into the chair. Oh that sneaky bastard. He knew Markus wouldn’t be able to get anything done by administering the android equivalent of a deep tissue massage.
Bewilderment now firmly settled on amusement, and thoroughly reassured that his friend/boss was in good hands, Simon started to take his leave. “Alright, I’ll leave you to it Connor. If you need back up to make sure this guy takes it easy we’re all on stand by.”
Connor nodded. “I will escort him home for further recuperation as soon as I have finalized his repairs.”
Markus, eyes closed as he happily sipped at his Particle-Colada, grunted in response to Simon’s farewell. He was a little annoyed that everyone was treating him like a toddler over his small injury, and a little more annoyed that Simon had felt the need to hover around Connor, as if he were bracing for the RK800 to do something violent, before trusting his good intentions. Granted, Markus (begrudgingly) could admit that Connor’s methods certainly weren’t...standard caretaker protocols, and that his bedside manner was well...much like the android himself; aggressive, confusing, and, most importantly, well-meaning.
“‘Can’t go home,” Markus murmured around his straw, very convincingly and not at all like he was about to ascend to a higher plane. “Still got work to do.”
“Hmm. Do you now?” With a fond, humoring, smile, Connor cranked up the power on the polisher. Markus swore his soul was straight vibin’.
Yea, actually. Maybe work could wait till tomorrow.

Reckless
Part Six
Master List
Steve had taken over the landing procedure since you were still down an arm. You and Bucky panicked for a moment when it looked like you jet was going to run right though the side of a tree covered mountain. Instead, the mountain dissolved to reveal a large city. It was impressive. It was nothing like you were expecting. Up until know all you knew of Wakanda was that it was a struggling poor country. Seeing it now. That was all a lie. Steve guided the jet down onto a platform where several people stood in waiting for the three of you.
“This place is incredible.” You didn’t know where to look as Steve was landing. Everything was a beautiful mix of technology and tradition.
“Come on yn. Let’s go meet our hosts.” Steve helped you stand. All the pain meds had worn of by now and you were definitely feeling everything.
“God. I hope they have a hot bath I can crawl in for the next week.” Even though you were trying to hide the pain as not to worry either men, it was getting hard to hide.
“I can carry you if you want?”
“No Steve. I can walk.” He held you steady for a moment before he decided not to fight over it right now.
Introductions didn’t take long. Unfortunately, it was hard for you to pay attention. Steve held onto tightly so you wouldn’t stumble. Even then it took everything you had just to stay upright. Steve was talking to a younger woman about living arrangements for the night and when T’challa was to be expected back. There was also some talk about what their rough plan was for Bucky. Finally, attention was turned to you.
“We should get her to medical.” The young girl pointed out to the men on either side of you. You tried to remember what she said her name was, Shuri?
“Shit. Yn.” Bucky positioned himself the best could to help Steve hold you up.
“Yea, I don’t think I’m doing too hot over here boys.” Steve held on a little tighter.
“Why didn’t you say something?” You shrugged at Steve’s question.
 “Y’all were busy.”
“Yn.” He was stern with you name. “Come on.” Both Steve and Bucky helped you into the building and down the elevator. From what you saw of the building so far, it put the Avengers compound to shame. Tony would have been a kid in a candy store with all this tech. The door of the elevator opened as your heart was hurting again for everything that had gone on.
“This way Agent yn.” Shuri lead the way for you to lay down on the bed. Several people moved forward helping you to undress so they could better treat your injuries.
“Gentlemen, if you wouldn’t mind.” Shuri motioned for them to leave the room.
“Only one show for you guys today.” You gave your best grin to Steve and Bucky as they left. Both shaking their heads at you.
You weren’t sure how long you have been in medical. Each of your cuts had been cleaned and rewrapped. They even removed Steve awful stitches from your thigh. Instead they just applied an ointment to it and wrapped it back up. You wanted to question them but chose not to. You were just grateful for their care. They also double check the setting of you shoulder. Satisfied with how it was sitting, they injected something. You assumed it was pain meds because almost immediately the pain was receding. After a few more injections you felt damn near back to normal.
“What kind of meds are you using? I feel almost good as new, but I’m not groggy like regular pain meds?” Shuri looked up from where she was sitting at a desk typing.
“That’s because it wasn’t pain meds. Things heal very differently here in Wakanda.” She walked over to where you were still lying on the bed. “You’ll want to take it easy for a day or so, but you are healed.”
“What?” Your eyes were wide at your statement. She just laughed.
“I’m sure we will have plenty of time to answer all your questions later. But Captain Rogers wanted you to join him as soon as you were able to.” You nodded and slowly at up from the bed. A few hours earlier you would be in too much pain to even think of moving like that without help. Standing up you tested your shoulder. Rotating in slightly. It felt fine. This place was crazy. You were definitely going to take Shuri up on her question answering.
 “Where are they?”
“Right this way.” Shuri lead you to where Steve and Bucky were at. It was a small apartment on one of the upper floors of the building. Both men stood when you walked in.
 “Thank you Shuri. Thank you.”
“You are very welcome Agent yn.” She closed the door behind her. You turned to face the men before you. They had changed and been cleaned up.
“You boys clean up well.” You glanced around the room. There was small kitchen area to you right. The table was full of the most delicious looking food. In the center of the room was a couch and a couple chairs setting around a low coffee table. The left wall was solid windows. It was night and the city outside sparkled with life. You had seen a city at night before, but there was something different about it. It didn’t feel intimidating like the New York night sky could be. Instead it was inviting, it felt alive in the best way.
“You look better yn.” Steve walk over to you. He placed his hands on your shoulders. You could tell he wanted to give you a hug. Closing the space between the two of you, you wrapped your arms around him.
“I feel better Steve.” You squeezed him with all the strength you could to let him know that you weren’t lying. He pulled you back to look at you. “Shuri says I’m all healed. Just got to take it easy for a couple days.”
“Good.” He pulled you back to him and gave you a tighter hug. Bucky cleared his throat behind the two of you. You felt Steve chuckle. He released you from his arms.
“Glad to see your better yn.”
“Thanks Bucky.” Steve raised an eyebrow at you. “What?” You questioned him. Turning though before he could say anything. “So what’s good?” You walked over to the table. Your eyes moving over all the food that had been set out.
“Just about everything. We tried to leave you a good selection.” Bucky joined you standing at the table. He pointed out the different foods. What he and Steve liked the best. You mainly stuck to the fruits and lighter dishes. You were starving but didn’t want to overdo it and get sick. Once your plate was loaded up, you joined Steve on the couch. Bucky took one of the chairs on the other side of the coffee table. As you ate they explained about how Shuri and the other scientists might be able to remove the programming in his brain. You partly paid attention. To engrossed in the food to give all your attention to the men. There was something about Bucky going back on ice and doing scans. You nodded and agreed when it seemed appropriate in the conversation. Steve finally caught your full attention when he mentioned the Raft.
“What a minute. Run that by me again.” You had nearly choked on your food.
“I’m going to get Sam and everyone out else out tomorrow night.”
“How? What’s the plan?” You set down your plate turning to face him in on the couch. Bucky leaned back in his seat.
“You’re not coming with me yn.” Steve didn’t make eye contact with you.
“The hell I am not Steve. They are my friends too!”
“Yn. I’m not going to let you risk getting caught.” He still wasn’t making eye contact.
“I don’t give a fuck! I’m going with you!” In an instant Steve was standing. Towering over you as you sat on the couch.
“You. Are. Not. Coming.” He punctuated each word through gritted teeth. “There is no more to discuss. I want you here. Safe.” It had been so long since you had seen him this angry. It took so much to get him to that place and honestly it scared you. You quickly nodded in agreement. Not trusting your voice. Steve gave a sharp nod back and left the room. Heading down a hall and slamming a door. Letting out the breath you had been holding you looked over to Bucky. He looked just as surprised as you did with Steve’s outburst. As soon as his eyes meet yours he spoke.
“I don’t think I have ever seen him like that. Are you ok?”
“Yea.” Bucky nodded then got up to sit by you. Loosely placing his arm around you.
 “I’ll still be here doll”
“Oh fuck you.” You pushed his arm off and stood up. Just like Steve was moments ago. “You’re going to be in a fucking tube. You don’t even try.” He stared blankly back at you. You looked down the hall where Steve had gone down. “Bedrooms down there?”
“Uh yea. One on the left is set you for you. Steve and I thought you might like it better. It has a private bathroom.” He was trying to make up for his comments but you didn’t care.
“Good.” You headed down the hall quickly. Leaving Bucky sitting in the living room by himself.  You wanted nothing more than to scream. But you also didn’t want Steve to be worried. It made you even angrier that after what he just pulled, you still didn’t want to worry him.
“Fuck him.” You mumbled to yourself. Walking around the room you found that it had been stocked with clothing and toiletries. You sighed, running your hand over your face. This was a much better situation than any other options. Not that you had options at this point. You sat down on the bed, staring at the door across from you. Everything inside you wanted to head across the hall. To fight with Steve. To tell him exactly where to stick his plan of leaving you here. You knew though that if you did, it would end the way it always did. That is the last thing you wanted. Not only because you wanted to keep hating him, but you were guests and there was someone else in the suite with you two.
The next best option was a hot shower. Silently thanking the men for giving you the room with its own bathroom. You rifled through the clothes that were given to you. Finding something comfortable to wear to bed and laying it out on the bed. You walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower. Setting the water as hot as you could. It didn’t take long for steam to fill the bathroom. Stepping in you let out a small hiss at the sting of the water. It turning your skin pink almost immediately. Once your body adjusted, you began to clean yourself off. Washing away all the stress from the past few days. You had gently passing over each spot that had been healed just hours before. A thousand questions came to mind. You tried to commit them to memory so you could ask Shuri.
After a long while the water started to cool. Your hands were pruned and skin bring hot red in spots. You turned the water off and reach out for a towel. Wrapping one around your body and other twisted in your hair. The temperature changes from the shower to the room air caused goosebumps to raise on your arms and legs. You made quick work of drying off and changed into the clothes you had laid out. Climbing into the big bed and wrapping yourself up in the blankets. You let your thoughts drift and soothe you to sleep.

Omg some Rex fluff?? No 60 from prompt list one, “But I want to hear you sing.” Can you imagine Rex saying that?? So cute my heart 🥺🥺
A/N: Welp I had fun writing this, I’ve written it as a part ii to The Captain and The Medic - which if you click, it’ll take you to part i, but as I usually do, it can also be read independently!
The Captain and The Medic - Part ii
Word Count: 1.9k Pairing: Captain Rex x Reader Summary: You got reassigned as the new 212th medic, and during a new campaign, Rex gets injured. Chaos and stress ensues. Partly because of the 3 jedi who can’t seem to sit still.

Medics were becoming few and far between as the war dragged out, even the Jedi healers were short-handed. It was for this reason that you were reassigned after a year and a half of serving with the 501st. Admittedly, you weren’t far, only going to the 212th.
You already knew a fair few members among the ranks, having to handle General Kenobi’s penchant for also never seeing a medic, something that the bastard well-respected Jedi Master had regretfully passed on down his lineage. You’d seen Waxer and Boil, when they returned with a secret small creature of some kind that needed medical attention, and you had a bone knitter on hand for Cody, who still had not shaken the habit of punching kriffing droids – which you had pleaded him to stop doing, if not for his own sake for yours, because using one of them was a rather tedious task.
It made for good entertainment, and it kept you busy, but it just didn’t compare to seeing Rex every day.
So when you were placed on the on the same campaign, excitement flooded through you, in the form of pure elation, drowning out the weariness of the amount of injuries that came with the news of a new campaign. That brings you to now, where you were waiting not so patiently with Cody and General Kenobi, expecting an arrival shortly from the 501st. Anakin Skywalker was the first off the ship immediately heading for Kenobi, with Ahsoka following half a step behind him. Ahsoka grinned widely and waved at you, and you let out a laugh at the girl’s antics. Giving a questioning glance to her Master, which he responded with a nod, she suddenly burst into a run, heading straight for you. You let out a low grunt when she smacked into you, and squeezed tightly. When Cody snickered, you silenced him with a quick glare.
“Hello, Commander Tano.”
“Hey Doc!”
General Skywalker nodded at you from where he stood with Kenobi, and pulling away from Ahsoka, you sent them both a curious glance.
“You lot haven’t been causing too much trouble for Kix while I’ve been gone?”
“Oh come on, Doc, we would never.” A new voice answered, unfiltered by the helmet he usually wore. You grinned and spun back around, to see your Captain stepping off the ramp, grinning all the while. You laughed and shot into his arms, smiling when he kissed your temple. Without hesitation, you took his face in your hands and kissed him hard. He grinned against your lips, technically neither of you were on duty yet. Your heart swelled in that moment, even seconds together – while not even close to being enough – after a few weeks made you almost blissful. He pulled away for a second, and tapped a finger on your wrist guard.
“Good to see you’ve replaced our stripes already.” He gestured to the newer, thick yellow line that was now painted next to the two blue, already starting to chip away after weeks of working.
“Oh please.” You rolled your eyes and gently slapped his arm, you wanted to catch up more, fill him in on the past few days, but Skywalker interrupted the two of you.
“Alright lovebirds, sorry doc, but I need to steal my Captain away, you can have him back when this is over and done with.” You laughed, but leant up and pressed a kiss on his cheek before he started in the same direction as the General’s and Commander’s.
“Just make sure you return him to me in one piece please? ” Cody had whacked him on the shoulder then, and you grinned harder. “Oh, and Cody?” The Commander spun and looked at you, and took in your folded arms and disgruntled expression. “Do not punch any droids today, otherwise I can and will amputate your arm.” The poor man looked thoroughly disturbed as Ahsoka broke out with a bright grin and elbowed them both, and Rex spun and gave you a thumbs up, mid-laugh. He mouthed an ‘I love you’ and begun to follow after Kenobi and Skywalker, Cody and Ahsoka still trying to tease him. You watched as he shoved them back, as they disappeared down a corridor and out of sight. Despite the light-hearted nature of the interaction, you couldn’t shake the feeling that today would go badly.
Your heart was racing when he was brought in. There was blood spilling from a gash on his forehead, and you could see when his chest plate moved with his breathing, it wasn’t quite right, rising in two separate motions. It had stopped you from moving, eyes staring after him as Kix started his work. Your muscles were begging you to let you run to him, to help Kix in anyway you could, despite knowing that he was a very capable medic, and no further harm would come to him here.
Your patient, who when you turned around was giving you an almost amused smirk under all the dirt that was caked on him, cleared his throat.
“You know, you could just go and help him, I’ll be fine.” You made a noise half-way between a sigh and a groan, before shoving your anxieties away. He’ll be fine. You had worse problems to deal with, like preventing a dumbass wise Jedi that didn’t know what taking care of himself first was from escaping the medbay.
“And leave you to try and escape again? No chance, General.” He flinched gently as you prodded his ribs, which you determined were likely broken on account of Grievous hitting him with a well-aimed kick. Kenobi feigned a confused look.
“I would nev-” You rolled your eyes before he cut himself off with a groan as you pressed against another rib.
“Yes, you would. You’re already going to be here for the night, don’t force me to make it two,” his smirk flattened as he gave you a blank look. “If I had half a mind, I would keep you here for a week, considering I’ve now had to deal with yours, your padawan’s and your padawan’s padawan bad habits of not coming to or just plain trying to escape the medbay!”
Hours later, once the sun had set, you’d finally gotten the stubborn Jedi to remain in place. Kix was around the medbay somewhere, and almost everyone in here was silent, in a dead sleep after a hard-fought battle. You’d started singing a lullaby in mando’a under your breath, hoping that actively thinking about the lyrics would keep you awake, even as your hands were trembling slightly and your feet ached. You wouldn’t have to stay in the medbay too much longer, Kix would wake up soon and take over the rest of the night shift, as all there is left to do in these hours is monitor heart rates and make sure those who were awake weren’t in pain.
You stopped by Rex’s side, looking up at the monitor, all the while you kept singing quietly. You looked down to your datapad to enter the reading, and noticed that the beeping of the machine had increased. Sure enough, when you looked again, his heart rate was much higher than what it had been earlier, on instinct you felt your own skyrocket at the thought of something being wrong.  You immediately stopped singing and turned to look at his face, where his nose was scrunched, and you could see the movements of his eye beneath his eyelids.
“Rex?”
And one of his eyes cracked open slightly, you sighed heavily in relief. He’s awake.
His mouth pulled into a soft smile to mirror your face, both of his eyes trying to blink the tiredness away. Your eyes began to water as you took a seat beside his bed, and took one of his hands in your own. Slowly, he squeezed back.
“Hey, cyar’ika.” His voice was gravelly and thick with sleep, but it was a good sign that he could recognise you and speak at all.
“Hello, my love,” You said, brushing your hand against his cheek, and letting out a quiet, airy laugh when he blinked slowly and leant heavily into your hand. He was quite possibly still feeling the effects of the pain medication he had been put on hours ago. You noticed his eyes started flicking around the medbay, darting from patient to patient. “Can you tell me what the date is and then what happened?”
Still blinking slowly, one hand rubbed his face, and the other squeezed yours again. He spoke the correct date and then began rattling off details about the mission, from Commander Tano running ahead and Skywalker nearly losing his mind at the teenager, all the way up until he very nearly got blown up. You took in a deep breath when he finished his recount, all his memories were intact.
You raised his hand to your lips and pressed a kiss across his knuckles. Tiredly smiling at you, he reached up and tucked a hair behind your ear. The relief you felt was palpable as he seemed to be mostly there. You stood from the chair, untangling his hands from your hair, and checking the box on the datapad, signifying no signs of serious damage. You stared at his face once more, eyeing the cut on his temple and just taking in all the details.
“Alright, Rex, get some more rest in please. You’re likely going to be cleared tomorrow, so you’re going to need to be in good shape.” He groaned and grabbed your hand again, moving his thumb in small circles. Okay, maybe he was still on too many meds.
“Riddur, you need sleep, and I have more patients to see.” In an unusual show of emotion, he pouted.
“But I just want to hear you sing?” You flushed, knowing that he had most definitely heard you when you first walked over. You laughed softly, and brushed his cheek again.
“Is that what it’ll take for you to go back to sleep?” He spent a second thinking on it, before he nodded once, barely perceptible if you weren’t standing beside his head. Definitely still feeling the after-effects of the meds. You leant down and kissed him gently, stepping back before murmuring the soothing words in mando’a. He sighed and his eyes slid shut, as you walked away, allowing him to drift off, listening to the soft-spoken voice that sounded like honey and reminded him of a home that he had with only one person.
BONUS:
“No, you are not cleared!”
“I feel fine-”
“That means the pain meds are working! General Kenobi, three of your ribs are broken, and literally every other rib is bruised!”
“Doc, I’m sure Obi-wan is-”
“No, Skywalker, he is not! My medbay, my rules! And my rule is that he stays until he’s healed!”
“We outrank you, you know that right?”
“Not here, you don’t!”
“But-”
“Don’t you start, I could confine you here as well! Don’t think I didn’t see you injure your shoulder!”
“Kark, nope, Ahsoka, let’s go.”
“Anakin!”

‘‘Yeah, yeah,’’ Taehyung spoke, rolling his eyes as he makes his way to seat next to Jungkook, who was having his dinner.
And by dinner, it’s the microwavable Top Ramen his office’s pantry is filled with.
He opens his mouth, finger pointing at it as the silent request for Jungkook to feed him ‘‘No, I mean─’’
He does and now Taehyung’s mouth is stuffed with noodles, interrupting his conversation as he mumbles the last of his words, though they’re incoherent.
‘‘Mph─?” he garbles “I’m having dinner.’’ he answers after swallowing and Jungkook stifles a laugh at his annoyed expression, he can’t tell if Taehyung’s unpleased with the person on the phone or with his mischievous action ‘‘What? No! I’m having dinner at work.’’
By the way he’s speaking, the pediatrician figures out who his friend’s talking to.
‘‘Yoonah?’’ Jungkook mouths and Taehyung nods, there’s a glimmer of annoyance in his eyes.
Taehyung huffs, switching the phone to his other hand as he takes Jungkook’s chopsticks to feed himself more noodles ‘‘Okay, y’know what? I’ll call you later, babe.’’ and the neurosurgeon's girlfriend is not allowed to answer back because Taehyung has already ended the call, putting his personal phone on airplane mode and placing it on one of his lab coat’s pockets.
He groans, exhausted. Taehyung never looked like this, not even after a big surgery. Jungkook doesn’t even make an effort to take his chopsticks and ramen back.
‘‘You should break up with her already.’’ Jungkook casually advices and it’s obvious this is isn’t the first time the topic has been discussed.
Taehyung shakes his head slightly, cheeks stuffed with noodles and the pediatrician wants to squeeze them for the fun of it, but his friend’s annoyed so Jungkook might just get it.
Taehyung swallows and he sighs ‘‘I’m too old to date again,’’ he explains and Jungkook prepares himself to hear his friend’s excuse for the upteenth time ‘‘and Yoonah is a pain in the ass, but she puts up with me. I have to meet her halfway.’’
Jungkook knows it’s not because of that.
Taehyung isn’t old, but once he turned thirty he had deemed himself ancient. The neurosurgeon even cried while they all sang him the ‘happy birthday’ song.
Also, Yoonah is a twenty-two-year-old model and she’s pretty, so there’s that.
‘‘You should mind your business,’’ Taehyung spoke ‘‘you’re old too, yet your ass is single.’’
Jungkook did get it after all.
‘‘I’m not old, I’m still in my twenties.’’ Jungkook argued and his friend laughed out loud enough to be heard by the passer-bys outside the pediatrician’s office.
‘‘Barely,’’ Taehyung replied after calming down ‘‘you’ll be thirty in a few months, say goodbye to your youth.’’ he says this bitterly, like he resents the natural aging a human has to go through.
The pediatrician sighs, eyes closed ‘‘Taehyung, turning thirty does not equal to being old, in fact, thirty is the new twenty!’’
He read that somewhere, probably one of those lame Facebook posts that definitely a thirty-year old wrote to makes themselves feel better. Taehyung’s thirty-two so he can attest that that’s not true at all.
‘‘Anyway, right now I’m focused on my career,’’ Jungkook continues ‘‘I can think about settling down later.’’
Taehyung hums, unimpressed ‘‘Fine, die alone then.’’
The familiar ringtone of Jungkook’s phone is the conversation ender between the two. Jungkook smiles lightly at the way your name displays on the screen.
Taehyung chuckles ‘‘Or don’t.’’
Jungkook ignores him and answers his phone with a chirpy tone ‘‘Hey, you coming?’’ he asks and he can hear papers being stacked in the background, he guesses you’re rearranging stuff in your office like you always tend to do once a week, apparently it brings you sanity.
‘‘Yeah, in like, ten minutes’’ you say and Jungkook knows you’ll be right on time, he hopes he’s still here by then.
You’ve been a little too busy lately and he’s been unable to have a face-to-face conversation these days, coincidentally falling on a time where he’s fully aware of his tiny crush on you.
Maybe it’s a good thing, but now he goes stupid whenever he bumps into you around the hospital’s hallways because he’s not mentally prepared when he sees you. He’s never able to fully explain why he stumbles over his words when this happens.
You hang up, explaining you need to finish something up before you’re able to stop by his office and Jungkook doesn’t let you know he already knows what you’re doing, instead telling you he’ll wait for your arrival.
‘‘Ah, Namjoon was right,’’ Taehyung speaks up ‘‘this is serving me Med School vibes.’’
‘‘You’re thirty-two, please don’t talk like that.’’ Jungkook reminds him, there’s a whine in his voice and he physically cringes at his friend’s usage of the new slang terms.
Taehyung frowns ‘‘Thought I was young.’’
‘‘This is not Med School, alright?’’ the pediatrician clarifies, standing up from his place on the couch to take the finished Top Ramen his friend had ate for him and throwing it in the trash ‘‘I am mature now, I can control my emotions better.’’ he guarantees.
‘‘Oh yeah?’’ Taehyung retorts and Jungkook nods, he seems sure of himself ‘‘So, let’s say that─hypothetically speaking─Jimin asks Y/N out on a date and she said yes, would you get upset?’’
Jungkook hums ‘‘OBGYN Park Jimin?’’ he asks and Taehyung nods ‘‘Hypothetically speaking, he doesn’t have a chance on going on a date with her.’’ he answers with a tight lipped smile.
‘‘Hypothetically speaking, why not?’‘ Taehyung prods.
The pediatrician scoffs, thinking this conversation was absurd and quickly taking another direction ‘‘Because, hypothetically speaking, Y/N is out of his league,’’ he entertains the idea anyway ‘‘and yes, that includes medical fields.’’
Taehyung stands up abruptly ‘‘Okay, pause, are you trying to say that bringing a baby into the world is lesser than a common surgery? Where does that place me then?”
‘‘Hypothetically speaking.’’ Jungkook says through gritted teeth ‘‘Why are you bringing that up, anyway?’’ he asks because even though Taehyung always talked about the randomest shit, it always made sense in the end.
His friend shrugs his shoulders, like there’s no particular reason ‘‘I don’t know, maybe Jimin’s interested,’’ he teases ‘‘maybe not.’’
Jungkook’s heartbeat races up and he’s come to understand why Namjoon gave him that diagnosis a few weeks back.
He’s nervous.
---
By the time you stop by, Taehyung’s long gone having already lit the match, but not bothering to wait and watch it burn.
You so kindly came with an iced americano for him and a small cupcake to indulge yourself in, a small reward for the succesful surgery you had done earlier that day.
Jungkook is trying to listen to you explain to him what the process was like, but your words sound like an echo in his head instead. He can’t help but to think about Taehyung’s stupid—but valid—hypothetical situation.
Well, he’s sure he’s not madly in love with you. Like, he hasn’t reached that level—yet. If anything, this crush is a ‘I think you’re really pretty and smart and nice and sweet and cool’ sort of crush.
Fuck, this is actually giving him Med School vibes too.
“Would you go out on a date with Park Jimin?” he interjects and his brain is yelling at him, perhaps he should seek Taehyung’s help next “Hypothetically speaking.” he adds once he notices the raise of your eyebrow.
You cross your arms over your chest, glancing somewhere else “Uhm,” you really don’t know what to answer, thinking that entertaining Jungkook’s out of the blue questions usually don’t end up well “I don’t know—I guess?”
“Hypothetically speaking, right?” Jungkook asks, but it sounds like he’s begging for you to tell him that the situation would never happen.
“Sure,” you shrug “he seems like a nice guy.”
Jungkook tries not to yell in frustration.
There’s no backstory to him and the OBGYN. The pediatrician only resents the fact that Jimin had become residents’s favorite doctor, taking Jungkook’s spotlight away. He had made peace with it, there was something about that guy that was indeed charming.
But now, this opens up the possibility of you being on Jimin’s league. He tries not to let Taehyung’s words affect him, but what if the OBGYN really is interested?
Jungkook knows his neurosurgeon friend and the bright smile guy get along quite well, have caught them eating together at the hospital’s cafeteria more than once.
Does...does this mean Jungkook has competition? Is he actually going to have to do something about this tiny —not so tiny— crush?
A lightbulb pops over Jungkook’s head instead “Hypothetically speaking, would you go out on a date with me?”
“Okay, what’s up with you?” there’s laughter in your tone and Jungkook doesn’t like the way you can’t seem to take him seriously.
“Y/N!” he whines “just answer, it’s hypothetical anyway.” Yeah, hypothetical.
You sigh, there’s a level of patience you have to have for dealing with him. You’ve studied it and have learnt it for the past decade and few years of being friends with him. Yet, you still have to prepare yourself every time.
“Are we friends in this hypothetical context?” you ask and he narrows his eyes at you, does that change your answer? He nods anyway “Mmm, yeah, sure.”
Jungkook wants to yell in excitement now, but he’ll wait for when he’s in the privacy of his home.
He’s in your league too, then!
He can’t help but smile anyway, but you mistake it with him making fun of you, because this is something he could possibly use to embarrass you later on.
“You’re so weird.” you mumble, drifting your gaze somewhere else as if to hide from him.
You make a mental note to threaten him about not revealing this information to any of your friends later on. Right now, it’s actually sort of cute seeing his bunny-like smile.

Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four, Part Five, Part Six, Part Seven, Part Eight
You were internally screaming, wondering how the hell you got here. Top less, in a truck with a bloody nosed boy and a cop at the window.
‘I’m gonna need you both to step out of the vehicle.’ the cop said sternly.
Ivar sighed and rolled down your window.
‘Hello officer; did you happen to have a jacket or blanket she could use?’ he asked politely.
‘The male officer sighed.
‘Stay here, I already have your plates and it’s stunning how quick I can have every cop car in the city looking for you.’ he warned before walking to his car.
‘What are we gonna do? Shit what is my mom gonna do?’ you panicked.
‘Calm down. Just be quiet, look totally embarrassed and I can get us out of this.’ Ivar whispered, looking at the cop that was coming back.
The cop held up a grey scratchy looking blanket, but considering that the only thing keeping your nipples covered was your arm you weren’t too picky.
For a moment all you did was look at the cloth the man offered you, wary that moving too much would expose even more of yourself.
Luckily the officer took pity on you and just dropped it into your lap.
‘Thank you.’ you mumbled, pulling it over you.
Once you were secure in your coverage Ivar opened his door and you followed suit.
You sent a concerned look Ivar’s way, seeing how stiffly he was moving, he was visibly wincing with each step.
‘Now that we are all as appropriate as we can be, care to explain why you two are loitering in a closed park.’
‘We are so sorry, it’s just-well we are just, trying to…you know. Take things to the next level in our relationship.’
‘Ivar!’ you gasped.
‘What?! Am I supposed to lie? Kinda hard to do that when you don't have on a shirt, and I’m bleeding because we have horrendous coordination.’ he argued.
The officer snickered but quickly covered it up with a cough.
‘Look, Mr.Ragnarson. I have caught your brothers all over the city in a great many situations, as I’m sure your brothers can attest to. Do not think being rich will keep you out of trouble, however this is your first incident and everyone has been a teenager. Get outta the park and try hitting third base in a place that isn’t public.’ he said.
You were so damn red it was amazing you hadn’t become a damn tomato.
‘Keep the blanket...stay safe.’
‘Thank you officer we are sorry for wasting your time.’ Ivar apologized as the officer got back in his car and drove off.
Immediately you swatted at his arm, repeatedly, almost as hard as you could.
‘What the hell is your problem?!’
‘My legs are giving out soon so help me get back in the car.’ Ivar hissed as he as his knees buckled.
Just before it was too late you managed to catch him, in doing so you nearly hit the ground with him. Thankfully you found your footing and stabilized the both of you, all the while keeping the blanket over your shoulders.
‘Jesus! You’re heavy…’ you groaned out.
‘How sweet of you to say (Y/N), really I’m flattered. Can you drag my heavy ass to the car?’
‘I can try, but I don’t have too much confidence in myself to be honest.’ you confessed.
‘Just let me put some of my weight on you, I can make it.’ he grunted.
You nodded and let Ivar move around a bit, standing a little taller, taking some of his weight off.
Surprisingly enough the two of you moved very well together and got him in the car pretty quickly, all things considered.
‘Alright, you ok Ivar?’ you asked.
‘Yeah.’
‘Good because I need you in shape...so I can yell at you the entire ride home.’ you replied hitting him again.
‘Stop that!’ Ivar pouted.
‘Why did you tell that cop you were trying to cop a feel?!’ you hissed.
‘I didn’t tell him that, I said we were trying to have sex.’
‘Ivar!’
‘Did you want to be taken to the station to sit in a cell and wait for the police to call your mom and tell her what you were doing in my car shirtless?’
‘You are the most annoying person I’ve ever met, and that says something coming from someone with six siblings!’ you snapped.
‘Are you done?’
‘...yes.’
‘Good, because I don’t think I can make it to my house.’
‘Excuse me.’
‘My legs are sick of me, I didn’t give my meds time to kick in fully, I didn’t eat and it’s making me feel sick.’ Ivar said weakly, leaning back in his seat.
‘What were you doing driving when you felt this bad?’
‘Had to see you.’
It felt as if the air had been knocked out of you, Ivar had stupidly driven to meet you through pain you couldn’t even comprehend.
Sure you’d had friends before, but you couldn’t think of a single one that would even consider doing what Ivar had without any hesitation.
‘Can you get to my house in one piece?’
Ivar looked over at you, took a second to shake his head affirmative.
‘OK, me casa su casa I guess.’ you smiled.
‘Thanks.’ he said.
‘You’re still the worst.’ you joked before you ran around the truck to get back in the passenger seat.
Ivar closed his door and started the car.
‘My first slumber party, think we’ll get to braid each other’s hair?’ he said weakly.
‘Focus on getting us there buddy.’ you rolled your eyes playfully.
Ivar drove slowly and carefully, if you hadn’t personally witnessed him driving before you’d almost believe he was still a student driver.
Nonetheless, he did make it to your house and he parked safely, without blocking your mom’s car.
‘Good news is we made it, bad news is my couch is super uncomfortable but my room is upstairs.’
‘I can make it.’ Ivar assured you.
Deciding to have faith that Ivar knew what he was and wasn’t capable of, you held back your urge to ask if he was ok.
You got out and the two of you made your way into the house as quietly as you could, quickly you verified that no one was up on the first floor.
So far so good, your mom would have been waiting for you at the bottom of the staircase if she knew beforehand that you had snuck out.
Just as Ivar said, he made it up the stairs surprisingly quiet for a guy who had just nearly collapsed a few minutes earlier.
Once you two were safely in your room with the door closed, and locked Ivar quite literally fell face forward onto your bed.
You walked over to your desk and cut on the lamp, so that you weren’t moving around in nearly complete darkness.
‘Now if you don’t mind, staying in that exact position while I put on a shirt.’ Ivar wordlessly held out a thumbs up.
You pulled a sleep shirt out of your dresser, and just to make you feel a bit better you also put on one of your more comfortable bras.
Finally dressed you begin to fold up the blanket the cop had given you.
‘We’re good.’ you announced quietly.
‘Good, now where did you want me to sleep?’ Ivar asked as he sat up.
‘Uh uh, first I’m going to give you something to eat, you said you felt sick right.’
‘You don’t have to take care of me.’ he declined.
‘Shut up. You feed me everyday at lunch, let me feed you for once.’ you dismissed.
Ivar sighed in defeat and just laid back down.
You went downstairs and made two sandwiches, grabbed the family sized bag of chips that was more than half empty, took two sodas and a pair of bananas from the fridge.
Getting up the stairs and opening your room door proved to be quite the challenge but you prevailed.
With very visible relief you sat down your feast on the bed and took a seat in your office chair, wheeling over to the bedside while Ivar helped himself to one of the bananas.
‘Thanks.’
‘No issue, after that shit fest I need to stress eat...plus can’t have your first sleepover be a complete bust.’
‘So...do you wanna finish talking about-’
‘No, not now. The headache is finally clearing up, plus I’m not ready to get another nose bleed.’ Ivar interrupted.
‘Wait, so the nose bleed wasn’t a side effect of the medicine?’
‘No, neither was the headache. While I wasn’t feeling my bubbly self tonight, my head didn’t hurt until I tried to remember my dreams.’ he explained, finishing his sandwich.
You took a while to think this information ove as Ivar handed you a soda.
‘Yeah we should definitely not do anything that makes your head hurt, not tonight at least.’ you agreed.
The two ate in a comfortable silence, after such an eventful past hour the peace was very much so welcomed.
At last the food had been eaten and the soda cans emptied, so you threw away the trash and did your best to wipe away the crumbs from your covers.
‘So...am I sleeping on the bed?’ Ivar asked.
‘Yes.’ you replied like it was obvious.
‘And you will sleep...where?’
‘On the floor.’
‘No, you sleep in your bed, I’ll take the floor.’ he argued.
‘I don’t think so.’
‘I’m not letting you sleep on the floor in your own room.’ he said strictly.
‘Well I’m not letting you sleep on my floor either.’ you snapped back.
‘Alright then sleep on the bed, I won’t do anything if you don’t.’ Ivar bargained.
‘Don’t flatter yourself, I definitely won’t do anything other than snore and probably kick you out of bed.’ you scoffed.
Ivar rolled his eyes and awkwardly moved around until he could get comfortably under the covers and laid down.
Still partially annoyed, you walked over to the desk and took one of your prescribed sleeping pills and cut off the light.
After a moment of wondering if you were really about to share a bed with your guy friend you assured yourself that the only feelings you had for Ivar were platonic.
With that in mind you got in the bed and got settled in, you still made sure that there was plenty of space between the two of you.
‘Won’t your mom wonder why I’m here in the morning?’ Ivar asked.
‘No, everyone is going to Sunday morning church service. No one will be coming near my room, not until afternoon service. Benefits of being unable to sleep is getting a lot more opportunities to sleep in.’ you answered.
‘OK, if you’re sure.’ Ivar yawned before turning over.
With Ivar turned around and his breathing already evening out you also succumbed to your own exhaustion and went to sleep in record timing.
But of course you couldn’t just enjoy sleeping, not when your apparent past life was dead set on ruining your current life.
You were back in that strange room with the long fire pit, the smell of old leather and barn animals filled the air,
At first you thought it was empty, dreams like that had seemed to be becoming more common recently.
You sighed and turned, thinking you could walk around the area a bit more, maybe find something useful.
Just as you turned around you certainly found something...someone more specifically.
‘Ah!’ you squeaked out in shock as you were met by the eyeless face of the only man you could actively speak to outside of Ivar.
‘You are making progress with the Boneless one.’ he said.
‘I think I am, but I-we, we have questions and we need them answered.’ you replied.
‘You ask the wrong questions.’
‘You haven’t even heard my-’
‘I know your questions, you want to know why...why doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is that he remembers, he must remember himself in all his glory, and his disgrace. He will deny it, and the memory will hurt him, but he must.’ the man said, his voice deep, heavy and grave.
For a moment his words took the very air from your lungs, they made the hair on your arms stand up and you wanted to wake up and leave this behind you; but you couldn’t.
‘Fine, I won’t ask you why, but you will tell me this. What will happen to him once he does remember?’ you asked, demanding an answer.
‘What happens when you remember things?’
You were startled out of your sleep by an iPhone ringtone.
Sluggishly you reached over for your phone that was on the nightstand and looked at it in annoyance but it wasn’t ringing.
You felt the bed shift and looked over to see Ivar leaning over to pick up his phone off the floor.
‘What do you want, Hvitserk?’ he answered, his voice deeper than normal.
‘I’m out with (Y/N)...shut up you idiot... yeah...I’ll be home for the damn lunch.’ Ivar said before hanging up and throwing the phone back down on the floor.
Just as you were about to ask what was going on Ivar rolled around facing you, he placed his arm around your waist and pulled you closer to him.
You were so close to Ivar’s chest that you could hear his heartbeat.
Ivar was most definitely sleeping if the quiet snore was anything to go off of, and you had no clue how you were supposed to deal with this. So you tried to mentally make a to-do list, if only to make it easier for you not to freak out about how you were cuddling with a boy in your bed.
First thing you needed to know was what time it was, then you needed to get the hell out of this bed.
Luckily you hadn’t put your phone down, it was still in your hand.
So at a very weird angle you held up your hand and strained your neck to look at the screen.
Eleven fifty four in the morning, a solid six hours of sleep you noted absentmindedly.
Ok, step one went without a hitch, now for the next step.
First you moved his arm that was draped over your waist, and did an awkward little skoot backwards until you were almost completely out of the bed.
‘Where you going?’ Ivar asked sleepily.
‘Um, out of bed?’
‘Get back here...I’m sleepy.’
‘I thought you were a morning person.’ you tried.
‘Not on days like this.’
‘It’s almost noon, my family will be back at like twelve thirty.’ you said.
Ivar made a unpleased noise and sat up, he put his feet down then he lightly stomped each foot.
‘At least I can walk now.’ he sighed as he stood up.
‘So...you like to cuddle.’ you smiled, trying to lighten the mood without talking about his legs.
‘Rarely, and don’t go telling people either.’
‘Why shouldn’t I?’
‘Because I could tell everyone you got caught with your twins out last night.’
‘Ivar!’ you shouted.
‘I’ll be quiet if you will?’ he bargained.
‘Deal, any...dreams last night?’ you asked.
‘No. What about you?’
You nodded.
‘And I got at least two of our questions answered.’
‘Which two?’
‘Well..I know that your nose bleed was because you were remembering. The man with no eyes said the memory would hurt.’
‘The man with no eyes, what else did he say?’ Ivar asked.
‘I asked what would happen if you did remember.’
‘Ok...and?’
‘He just said what happens to me when I remember things.’
Ivar squinted his eyes in confusion.
‘What happens when you remember things?’
‘I mean...nothing, I just have that information again I guess, but the information I remember is usually not an entire lifetime of memories.’ you said.
‘Well, maybe if you’re as lucky as me you’ll get to remember your old life too.’ he sighed.
‘Ivar, I know this all really sucks…’
‘Were you gonna finish the sentence?’
‘No that was it, this sucks.’
Ivar scoffed, but it quickly became a laugh, a contagious kind it seemed as you were also in stitches.
‘Come on, I gotta start getting ready for afternoon service, and I think you have some type of lunch thing with your family.’
‘Yeah. I’ll call you after.’ Ivar promised.
‘Cool, and not to smother you, but let me know how you are feeling when you get in.’
‘Fine. I can text you.’
‘Good.’
The two of you stood still for a minute.
‘Ok bye.’ Ivar said, actually leaving this time.
You weren’t sure why, but something possessed you to look out your window so you could see Ivar get in his car.
And maybe whatever made you come to the window also made Ivar look back up at you.
He smiled and waved, and you returned the favor.
You watched him get in and pull off and you let out a breath that you couldn’t for the life of you remember holding; your chest felt tight and your cheeks were hot.
Oh...this was bad.

Millburn x  M/ reader
Tumblr media
Requested: Nope
Warning: Fluff
(It is not opinion, but it is fact that Millburn from Prometheus, deserved better! He deserved a happy ending! Also this is a male reader! I hope you enjoy!)
****
When you had woken up from your deep sleep. You were met by a wave of nausea. Instantly you felt hot saliva and your face was in between your legs letting go of anything in your system. "Oh god, what the hell?" You say out loud but more to yourself. David walks over after checking on the others. "You seem to not remember that before you went into deep sleep, you were quite ill. Your illness has passed but the nausea will last for a few hours." He says as he sets a paper towel in your hand and walks away without a care in the world. You shake your head and look back to the mess between your feet "Fucking androids." Wiping at your mouth you hear someone laughing in the pod next to yours. Casting a glance behind you you see a man. He had dirty blonde hair and glasses. He had a cheesy looking smile on his face and he held his hand out to you after he seemed to calm down a bit. "Millburn, nice to meet you..?" You stood up and looked at him with a stern glare "I'm none of your god damn business!" You say as you walk out of the room. Later on in the day you actually started to feel better and you also though about what you said. Truth be told it was harsh, but also you threw up every bit of contents in your stomach. You weren't in the mood to be all happy and jolly. But you did want to apologize. So, for a second you looked around after getting your tray. You spot him across the room, sitting alone. You walk over slowly trying not to spill the boiling contents of soup. When you made it over you sat the tray down and sighed out. Looking up you see that Millburn was already looking at you. Another cheesy smile was plastered on his face and he seemed glad you were in front of him. "Anyone sitting here?" He shakes his head and gestures to the seat "Nope, all yours." You nod and sit down. "Listen, uh Milburn right?" "Yep!" "Alright, well Millburn I would like to apologize for my rude outburst earlier. I wasn't feeling great and just lashed out at the nearest person. Also between me and you-" you say as you lean closer, he does as well and for a small moment you thought, how beautiful his eyes looked, you felt your heart go a tad bit faster and you snapped out of your small moment. "-I- I um, I don't uh...Like Uh, androids all that much." He smiles even wider and nods his head while still looking at you. You look down and lean back in your chair. You tried to think of anything else but him. You wanted to change the subject. "S-so, the uh soup. Is it good or bad?" "Its good." He says as he continues to smile. Deep down you knew he could read you like a book. But you just hoped you didn't look like a fool. After everyone ate you all were asked to join in the main room for a meeting of sorts. At first it was to meet the guy running the show. And after doing so everyone started to mention their roles on the ship and why they were here. That was until everyone had to know why you were here. "I'm here to makes sure you don't die." "So your a doctor?" You open your mouth to answer but David cuts you off. "Yes. He is our medical advisor and is quite good at his job. If you need medical assistance you will go to him." Your hands go straight to your face and you groan out. You then stand and start walking to the exit. "The meeting is not over yet." "It is for me, robo." You say walking straight to the med bay. When you enter you go over to one of the many computer and sit at the chair. Laying your head on the desk you breath out shakily in anger. For a while you sat like that. Soaking in your own anger. That was the one thing you hated most, people interrupting and androids. They always gave you a bad feeling, especially David. You still sat in your own anger. That was until you heard the doors open and you immediately straightened up. You turned around with a smile until you saw David. Your roll your eyes and turn back around. "What do you want David?" "I will warn you now Mr. L/n. Skipping a meeting can result in consequences." You turn around slowly and stare at him "Is that a threat I hear? Or are you always this bitchy?" You say as you stand up. Walking over to him you look at him in the eyes. So lifeless. So emotionless. So dead. "Not at all, but I can only imagine what it is like to be a ignorant...? Oh what is that word I hear Fifield use? Ahh yes a, prick." Your fists ball in anger and you grab him by his lapels. Pushing him against the wall you bring your other hand back and punch him. Once, twice then a third time. By the fourth punch your hand is bleeding and he seems untouched. "Get the hell out you stupid fuck!" You let go and he walks out. You lay your hands flat on the wall in front of you. Your injured hand burns and aches with ever move. You squeeze your eyes shut at the pain. Breathing heavily you don't even hear the sound of foot steps coming into the room. "You need help with your hand?" You recognize the voice, Millburn. You look to the side and see him giving a small smile. "Sure." You say walking over to one of the many medical counters. You hop on top of it as he walks over to you. You point over at a cabinet, "In there, there is alcohol, Neosporin and in the top cabinet is some gauze and tape." He nods at this and brings everything back over to you. "So. You punched David huh? That quite uh, impressive." You raise an eyebrow. "I punched an android and fucked my hand up. How is that impressive? To be honest, ill probably pick up a few chicks with this or some shit." You laugh slightly at the small joke you made. "Or men." You look at him oddly for a moment as he continues to clean your hand. You honestly thought you were the only person on board who was interested in the same sex. Guess you were wrong. "Oh, and what is that suppose to mean, Millburn?" He smiles goofily. He shakes his head and continues to aid your hand. You use your other hand and card is through his curly hair. He stops what he's doing when he feels this. His eyes roll back and so does his head, he swallows thickly. You smile at the sight and decide to take a chance. You lean in slowly and kiss at the column on his throat. You pepper kisses up and down his neck and finally lean back after to observed a few small purple marks littered on his neck. He smiles again and wraps his arms around your waist. "I like you." "I like you too." You say rubbing his back with your uninjured hand. "Can I tell you something?" You nod "Well, before I went into my pod the first time. I saw you in the pod next to mine and I just thought you were so handsome. I got a crush on you when I saw you. And when I later found out we both would be on Prometheus, I just got so giddy with excitement! I couldn't wait to meet you. That's why I was smiling at you when we woke up!" You smile and lean in to peck his lips. He smiles into it and pulls away. He sighs out in content and goes back to doctoring up your hand. After this you'd definitely have take him on a date of some sort.

(I will write for him cause he is Cute! And he deserves love. I will gladly take requests for him all day long. :))

Humans are Space Orcs, “Compromised Earth.”
Sorry guys, I was super exhausted today, and my brain wasn’t thinking up anything else it wanted to write. I will try to get out some now and inventive ideas in the next week, but today you get another recovery continuation since that is what my brain wanted to write lol
I hope you still like and have a great day :)
His entire body hurt,
Not like it had before, obviously, more of a dull ache, the kind that comes after a day of really hard physical training after years of inactivity, but in that case, it still meant he was having trouble moving. He lay on his bed, in his quarters propped up by an ungodly amount of pillows. He honestly wasn’t entirely sure where Sunny had found them all only to assume that she had probably gone around stealing them from people.
If that was the case, at least no one said anything.
Aside from that, she had gone out of her way to assign someone to watch him when she couldn't be there. He was still experiencing some withdrawal symptoms, and she was unreasonably worried that something would happen with his health.
Katie, Krill, Ramirez, Mav, and a few others were taking it in shifts to watch him. He was sure if he was a little less of an extrovert, he would have hated it, but honestly the company was a comfort and it helped him to sleep easier knowing someone was there.
Ramirez was there now playing something on a vintage handheld gaming system of some sort cursing under his breath occasionally when things didn’t go his way. He looked up in concern, probably worried that he had disturbed the Commander’s sleep, though Adam was honestly fine, drifting in and out and in and out as the occasion called for it.
Recovery was slow and painful, and those some had suggested it, he refused meds to dull the pain.
He could already feel the hinted prod of long dormant cravings and so refused any and all painkillers knowing that, if he gave in once, he would be more likely to do it, again, and again, and again.
At least now he could stand, though only for short periods of time. Long enough to get up to go to the bathroom and take very short, hot showers, though both activities tended to leave him absolutely exhausted.
The Spiderlings had visited him earlier in the day babysat by Waffles and Dr. Katie, The had been very excited to see him, and he in return, though he had only been able to manage their presence for a short amount of time before being forced to send them off too tired to keep his eyes open.
He was just drifting off to sleep again when a commotion outside the door startled him awake. Ramirez stood form his seat a concerned expression on his face, setting his handheld down on the chair behind him and walking over to the door.
“What is it?”’
Ramirez shook his head and held up a hand, “Just let me check it out.” The door hissed open and then shut filling the room with a swelling of voices for a short moment.
“He's resting!”
He sat up recognizing sunny’s angered voice.
“I know that, but this is urgen-”
The door was shut, and the sound of voices was cut off leaving only the distant humming of muffled words. He pushed himself higher up in his sitting position, eyes squeezing shut against the ache.
He leaned forward, but couldn’t make out what was being said.
The longer it went on the more impatient he got, before eventually throwing his legs over the side of the bed and slowly getting to his feet.
His back and legs screamed in protest, and the metal of the ship was cool beneath his feet as he limped on both legs, to the door. Despite having one mechanical leg, his body was in so much pain that it didn’t bother to relegate the agony to a single side. THe door hissed open, only for him to find Ramirez, Sunny and Waffles facing off against an official UNSC officer looking more than a bit frazzled by the hostility being projected by his two crewmen, and now the dog, who also seemed less than pleased about this turn of events.
As the door opened, they all turned to look at him.
What a sight he must have been, shirtless, and covered in bandages facing off against some pretty severe irritation from the Steel-Eye suit. The skin about his back, arms and chest was extremely inflamed and irritated, making his already haggard appearance even more so. The officer quickly solution, while the other two looked at him in concern coming to his side to make sure he was ok.
Ramirez offered him an arm, but he waved it off, “What is this all about?”
The officer nodded nervously, “I am so sorry to bother you commander, but there have been some developments in relation to the burg, and the UNSC is calling a meeting to deal with it. Not to mention there have been some…. Questions as to your methods during the last engagement that the brass would like to discuss. They understand that you are still recovering, but based on recent circumstances, we cannot put things off any longer.”
“Like hell you can’t” Sunny snarled
Adam held up a hand to her, “Let me get changed, and I will accompany you.”
Both Sunny and Ramirez sputtered in protest as the officer saluted, the two of them following him back into his rooms with arguments on their tongues.
He limped over to the closet doors, ignoring them as it hissed open, reaching in to grab out a white shirt.
“Adam, you can barely walk, the UNSC has no right to ask you to come in if you aren’t recovered.” Sunny seemed to be working herself up into a killing mood.
The threaded one of his arms through a sleeve, painstakingly pulling the shirt closed fingers fumbling with the buttons, “This is my job, Sunny, and I intend to do it.”
Ramirez held out his hands, “But Sir, I am sure there is some sort of compromise. Maybe they could project you in as a hologram, that way you wouldn’t need to use up all your strength.”
Adam turned to look at him, “As commander of the UNSC fleet, I hardly intend to give off an air of weakness to my superiors. I can walk, so I will go. Or I may at the very least, try.”
“And slow down your recovery.” Sunny interjected
“If that’s what I must do.”
“I get your loyalty, Adam, but sometimes I think you cave to unreasonable demands.” He had gotten the shirt on and had managed to pants as well, despite his screaming back.
Shoes were going to be a real bitch.
He pulled on his uniform jacket and plucked his hat from its spot atop  a shelf stuffing it onto his head as his shoulders seemed to moan with the agony.
“My mind is made up.”
He bent down to retrieve his shoes, but was struck by an excessive bout of pain that seemed to radiate up his spine and into his limbs. His knuckles were white against the door-frame.
Ramirez hurried forward, helped him to stand and retrieved his pushing him back to sit on the edge of the bed. He sighed in relief feeling only mildly embarrassed as Ramirez knelt to help put on the shoes.
Sunny didn’t look pleased, but offered Ramirez the other shoe when he was done with the first.
Ramirez looked up, “We can’t change your mind?
Adam shook his head, “No.”
“Then we will accompany you. Make sure you don’t overwork yourself.” He glanced over at Sunny, “Right.”
She was clearly displeased, but nodded her bird-like head, “I will carry you if I must.” She glowered at him, “or if I feel like you are growing too stupid to take care of your own health.”
Her words tugged a half-hearted smile from him, “How sweet.”
He stood again, slowly helped to his feet by Ramirez, and together they stepped out of the room and off down the hall.
He tried to walk with a purpose, but after the first hallway he was beginning to wonder if he hadn’t been too hasty in his assessment of his own strength. His feet were like led boot encased in concrete, his back hurt horrendously, and his chest was feeling a little tight, though he kept that to himself.
Their pace had significantly slowed by the time he made it to cargo bay, And both Ramirez and Sunn were looking at him as if they expected him to collapse at any moment.
He was glad they were there for that eventuality for it was definitely seeming like an eventuality now. The officer was waiting for him, and upon seeing his face, the man’s eyes grew wide and his skin blanched.
Did he really look that bad?
“Are you alright, commander.”
“Yes, let's just get inside so I can sit down.” The man didn’t argue with him, hurrying onto the UNSC shuttle.
Climbing up that ramp might as well have been climbing up Everest, and the only relief was a seat waiting for him when they stepped on.
He took his seat to exhausted to even keep his eyes open.
Aware partially of Sunny and Ramirez buckling the harness around him before taking their own seats.
He fell asleep on the way in, or at least he thought he did, jostled awake when landing came.
It took everything he had to force his eyes back open and unstrap himself from the seat. Ramirez took his offered hand and pulled him to his feet.
His legs were so weak.
Light spilled in from the Shuttle doors, and together they stepped outside into the light of earth. He closed his eyes for the sun on his skin, which helped to make him feel just a little better.
“Commander.”
He looked up, surprised to find a good portion of the UNSC brass waiting for him at the base of the ramp.
His old captain , now Admiral Kelly being one of those.
She took one look at him and frowned immediately, “Are you alright, Commander.”
He limped down the ramp, “yes ma’am, I’m fine.”
“You look like shit…. And that’s me being diplomatic.”
He gave a weak smile as the others looked on in concern, “I'll be alright as long as we get somewhere where I can sit.”
“Then let's hurry and do that.” Admiral Kelly, grabbed him by the arm and steered him over to a waiting truck.
It felt like his knees were going to buckle but he managed to get in, with some help from Sunny.
He fell asleep again resting against Sunny’s shoulder shaken awake when the truck pulled to a stop in front of UNSC headquarters. There was a party waiting for them, and he was deeply regretting agreeing to this.
He climbed out of the Truck behind Sunny stumbling when his feet hit the pavement.
Ramirez grabbed him by the arm and helped him to stand.
A light trembled had started up in his body, and he felt as if he was going to collapse.
He was so dizzy, his legs were so weak.
The party came to meet with him, “We are sorry Commander, that this was such a bad time, but there have been some developments with the Burg, we required discussing with you immediately.”
He nodded, though only half understanding what they were saying.”
“You plan managed to foil the larger part of the attack, but it looks like a Tesraki agent, paid off by the other side managed to get into the Gromm city, and steal some of the warp codes to sell for a prophet. We can’t be sure, but earth might have been on that list.”
“That sure got his attention.”
“The Burg might have our warp codes.”
“Yes.”
“Did you contact the GA?”
“Immediately.”
“Good… hopefully they might help us get a Nexus up in time.” His feet were a hundred pounds each sliding towards 1000. The curb before him was a seven foot leap.
He stepped up and…. Made it, by the skin of his teeth.
He pulled the other foot up and paused on the edge of the curb staring straight forward.
“We have already begun construction-.”
They continued talking, and he heard himself respond a few times. The faces before him warped in and out of focus continuing to speak. He spoke, though he had no idea what he was saying.
His vision started to go white.
It honestly scared him.
He had passed out before, and his vision had gone black, but this time it started to go white washing everything of color as he stared forward. His ears rang and his head spun.
Before he knew it he was sitting on the ground.
“Get his head down, between his knees.” Someone was saying.
A hand rested on his back.
He was breathing hard, but every time he tried to lift his head, the world started to go white again.
So he stayed there, not sure for how long before, finally he was able to lift his head.
A group of very worried people and one Alien stood around him. Sunny knelt at his side, Ramirez at his other, and a couple of the Admirals in front of him, others standing behind.
“Sweet mother earth, commander, we thought you were having a stroke.”
“The paramedics are on their way.” Someone was saying
“Call them off.” He mumbled, “I’m ok, just a little lightheaded.”
“If we had known you were this sick, commander, we would never have asked you to come.”
“We tried to tell you that.” Sunny snapped, but Adam rested a hand on her arm.
“Relax Sunny, they had no way of knowing. Help me up.”
She hesitated.
“Help me up.” He ordered, and she did so only grudgingly. He was back on his feet now though he kept his head down worried the world would go white again.
“Do you need a doctor?’ someone was asking.
A bottle of water was pressed into one of his hands.
He took a drink letting the cool liquid slide down his throat, “I'm alright.’
I’m alright ended up amounting to almost passing out three more times before they made it to the ‘war room’ and that was before Sunny began ignoring his orders and simply carried him the rest of the way.
He would have been embarrassed, if he had the cognitive capacity to do so, and probably would have been embarrassed when the paramedics showed up to place and IV and look him over once they got there.
They offered medication.
He refused.
Still concerned at the little cravings hinting at the back of his mind.
But there were more important things to deal with than that, one of them being the Burg.
And their possible knowledge of earth’s location.
At least he had managed to save SOME planets
