still ruminating over Lost In the Book With Spooky Skeletons Part 1, so here's a selection of some of my favorite little bits! (...some more loosely paraphrased than others) (I just feel like Idia has no room to criticize in general, okay)
anyway, I'm sure we're just going to have a fun time celebrating Halloween and nothing bad is going to happen whatsoever! :)
#art#twisted wonderland#twisted wonderland spoilers#lost in the book with nightmare before christmas#hajimari no halloween#calling dibs on skeleton kisses as the name of my band#man scully is just a delightful little weirdo and i'm enjoying him immensely#(i'm going with scully until we get something official just because it makes me think of x-files)#(スカリー is also how the agent's name is transliterated and i don't know if it was intentional but i love it as a bonus reference)#(i want to believe™)#gosh though#'no one at school likes me because i won't shut up about halloween and jack skellington' i'm feeling VERY attacked right now twst#look scully your people are out there#just get on the forums and -- oh wait you're probably from like the 1800s or something#(my theory is that he's from the past and there's just some Book Magic going on to bring us together)#(LOOK they made a point of saying that the book fair has been held annually for a super long time)#a hot topic goth born before hot topic was invented...so sad 😔#i dunno i could be wrong but that feels like a good working theory for now#if it wasn't for mal sensing twsty ~magic~ on him i would think he's like. a christmas elf who's going to kidnap jack in a reverse-nmbc#(not ruling that out though because it would be amazing)#god all the sprites in this event look AMAZING. loving the desaturated colors and the extra drawn-on lines 😍#i'm genuinely kinda sad that we aren't gonna get to see every character like this#who knows...maybe halloweentown will be imperiled again next year...#come back and destroy my keys again please#(that said i'm doing weirdly well so far?)#(i promised i'd save for sebek and just do cursory pulls to get the SRs and not hope for the SSRs)#(...but then leona jumpscared me four coffins in anyway. halloween magic is REAL)

#illustration#trans man#oc#milomir#yuval#im finally writing down their story for my book..#Yuval is hard to be around. Often in a bad mood and makes reasons to not like everyone he meets. Excuses to not be close to people#A paranoid depressive lost in his head..But poetic and yearning when alone.#Milomir is also rough around the edges but very loyal to those he likes. Doesn't have good boundaries. He is obsessive and goes too far.#He's the fairy the other fairies are kinda like “Uh.. Dude.. Too much..” to#yuval thinks the sea is trying to kidnap him (and he's right)#milomir spent hundreds of hours crafting the wings he wears so he would look like a more acceptable fairy. He's actually a whirligig beetle#His hood covers his second set of eyes.#anyway I thought I would arrange their panels in a nice way..

Maybe the problem with Christian fiction is that it's non-denominational. People are just "Christian", with no effort put into showing what practicing that religion looks like for them specifically. No indication that there are other Christians who could have different beliefs. No wrestling with differing ideas and the struggle of how one should live out their Christian faith. And that makes it unrealistic and unrelatable.
#me reading any christian historical fiction set in england: why are none of these gentry anglican??#they ARE all anglican and if they are not it is extremely plot and character relevant you can't just have them using evangelical buzzwords#but i'm also thinking of this because i started another charlotte yonge book#that is by far my favorite of the things of hers that i've read#because it has characters who have different upbringings and religious opinions#instead of just 'here's a bunch of high church anglicans judging people who don't live up to their victorian standard'#you have the very high church anglican rector whose wife is worldly but still a very good person#the girl raised in a very strict protestant family who is more scrupulous than the anglicans but is still recognized as a good person#you have people who are trying to work out the nuances of different issues#and that makes it so much more realistic and so much easier to integrate into the story#(the politics though are hilarious)#(most of the classics that survive are the ones that were 'ahead of their time' in politics)#(so it's equally fascinating and refreshing and a bit infuriating to see one that is very very of its time with regards to women's rights)#('why did this woman get up at the meeting and explain her very good ideas for rebuilding after the fire? she should have had a man do it')#(meanwhile i'm just screaming 'why on earth SHOULDN'T she???')#(it's almost enough to make a feminist of me)

Howdy hello- guess who made a wings au :)
More to come with this eventually- I’m working on my designs for other characters at the moment, but for now we’ve got Red-Tailed Hawk for Curt and Eagle Owl for Owen.
For DMA I had Barn Owl wings because a) Barn Owls are beautiful and I wanted to draw the wings for them, and more importantly, b) Owen would probably want to disguise his wings, and it would make sense if it was as a different type of owl. I just assume he’d dye his feathers in some way or another. Look- just don’t think about it too much.
#guys look I made an au!#I hope to do more with this because it’s so much fun to think about and draw#I’ve been meaning to finish this for ages- had the idea like two months ago#I’m particularly happy with Red Tailed Hawk Curt- if you don’t know they are a very common bird of prey in the US- but very cool#there’s one that lives not to far behind my house AND I saw one quite literally yesterday#and curt just had that vibe y’know#the vibe of that bird#also I was a massive bird nerd when I was a little kid so this is scratching that itch from when I was 10#so I’ve got the books I can consult for this thing#At least for North American birds#but yeah very pumped about this#fun fact: the sound you hear on tv used for the bald eagle is actually the sound of a red tailed hawk#I’d like to thank the lovely ryoko-akari for giving me that radical fact#I think it would be silly if they could make bird sounds#just for fun#let my guy Owen hoot- let Curt screech I think#alr what do I call this au guys#wings are forever#birds are forever#spies are birds#birds used to be used by the government for espionage there has to be something good#OK after some consultation we’ve got one- from the fantastic swingingthehatchetnow- I give you:#Spies are Forever: Live and Let Fly#isn’t that great yall#man’s a genius#ok regular tag time#spies are forever#tin can brothers#tin can bros#tcb spies are forever

I'm sincerely very happy for anyone who is enjoying the show but every time I see takes that the show has improved the book characterizations or that the book characters are underdeveloped in comparison to the show...
#our experiences are very different lmao#pjo show crit#sure the show isn't completely out yet#but id argue that the characters (namely the trio) seem way more developed and well-rounded in the book by this point in time (episode 4)#and look im not saying every change the show has made is bad#but by and far there has yet to be a change to characterization that feels like an IMPROVEMENT from the source material lmao#the closest contender I'd say is show Percy does seem a tad angrier than book Percy#but again I wouldn't call that an improvement... its just different and I think that /change/ works because it feels like the same essence#but even that has had some issues because I feel like the show has inadvertently cut down some of Percy's canon book empathy here and there#I think the show has nailed Annabeth's pride and intelligence and her warped worship of her mother#... but they've also made her hyper competent to the point that she's not making half of the mistakes she did in the book#which ISNT good because book annabeth is smart but she isn't infallible#its a big point that she has the theoretical intelligence but none of the real world experience/application#she gets tricked by medusa and goes to visit the Arch just cause she loves architecture and that's okay!! she's twelve and a nerd!#I also dont like that they've cut/toned down her little crush on Luke#actually they've not even showcased the familial bond between annabeth and Luke either in the show so like lmao#and then grover#by now grover's fear of failure and repeating this past mistakes and wanting a license has already been acknowledged in the books at least#in the show?? not so much#and his canon book suspicions and wariness of medusa... were given to annabeth#like medusa in the book was Grover's moment to shine cause his instincts were right!#and in the book fight he even very intentionally attacked medusa#but his highlights there were cut completely in the show#and finally sally#...idk who that is in the show but that's NOT my sally jackson#percy jackson#mine

they girlbossed Sally Jackson
#pjo#pjo tv#riordanverse#sally jackson#this shall be my non-spoiler only review of the show so far#just watched the first two episodes - they were good!#i might make a post about Percy's char so far cause i am very pleasantly surprised so far with the adhd experience vibes#my compliments to the writing team for the good good disabled character rep in this script#very pleased with almost all the characters and plot so far#my only one i'm iffy on is Sally as mentioned ^ they girlbossed her#like. book sally is most defined by her kindness and perseverance. this sally is just kind of. tough. she's tough. girlboss.#which is not necessarily a bad thing? she's still a fine character she's just different#also only semi-spoiler in my review: Chris is there! Love that Chris is there#he's just there! but i am a rogue demigod enjoyer#so his presence alone is appreciated

Yoink.
Ashe hasn't shown up in the rp yet but I think it'd be really funny if this is how they met.
#my art#fire emblem#tes#fe16#fire emblem three houses#ashe duran#sylvain jose gautier#sylvain works for dimitri as a fort guard and spends most of his freetime with glenn#(or out gallivanting with the keep's small population of women but they know his tricks by now)#ashe doesn't have a super established day-to-day life yet#but he's a dunmer raised by khajiit#by the books he does light mercenary work for a living but he also has a propensity for petty theft. mostly on behalf of his caravan#who affectionately refer to him as 'sugarswipe' because he likes to nick little sweets and baked goods for them#i've talked about him a little bit before but it's been a YEAR#anyway as it turns out sylvain's canon armour is VERY similar to skyrim's Steel Plate Armour#so that's primarily what i based his outfit off of.#i let him keep the red accents but i excluded the teal bc as far as i know his family isn't all that important in this setting...?#and the fraldariuses ARE so their teal seems like a stand-out sort of thing to me#so i didn't want to put it on him also LMFAO#it's okay tho he can just steal glenn's cape#also YES the background is a screenshot of whiterun. i didn't feel like inventing faerghus architecture but i didn't want it to be blank

Paleolithic Media Catalogue
Hello everyone :) Short story first: When I began brainstorming for my prehistoric story, I started wondering what other prehistoric fiction there is out there. I was not familiar with it and have not seen much. That's when I started my grand literature review and began a search for what fiction exist out there. I wanted to know what kinds of stories are being made with this time period. What are the common themes or recurring ideas (I found lots of humans and dinosaurs works. And time travel). Since I've had a growing collection on my computer, I decided I should keep on enlarging it and put it online. It's nowhere near complete. I'll slowly keep accumulating the collection as I find more. I only have fiction books and comics right now. I still need to work on the film section.
You can access the blog here!

As for where I am in my reading, the one's I've finished reading are Earth's Children series (book 1-4. Dropped it afterwards lol. I made a post on with fanart) Dance of the Tiger and it's sequel Singletusk (They were good! I'll upload my review on the blog), and Sisters of the Wolf (It was ok!). I got my hands on The Inheritors and excited to start reading it. I REALLY want to read the Shiva trilogy, but I found no PDF online... and it's out of print :( There is certainly old copies on ebay. And I want to read Chronicles of Ancient Darkness. There seem to be lots of good books out there.
#For whomever might find it useful... I'm doing this#I actually found another huge catalogue by an awesome person called Stephen Trussel#However their site has not been updated since 2016#I've linked their site on my blog when referencing the ENG translation for 'paris before man'#I'll make a paragraph dedicated to that site too#This has gone beyond my initial literature review lol#But for someone writing in this genre.. I've got to get to know it well#Because If I do end up publishing it I KNOW for sure it will be set up against other prehistoric fiction#mainly earth's children series#LITERALLY every book I checked had people in the reviews comparing it to Auel's series. Like it's the blueprint of prehistoric fiction#Like it's 'The Lord of the Rings' of its' genre.#and since it's a graphic novel maybe it will be compared to other comics?? Which I haven't found a lot YET#Emmanuel Roudier's work looks SO GOOD#I say looks because it's in French and I can't read French#I'm tempted to try translating it with what little French I learnt from public school and actually learn French in the process#Mezolith is great but it's not a full story. Just small snippets/short stories#Same with Tiger Lung. It's great. Also very very short. I recommend both.#I have not read the mangas yet. I read the first few chapters of Grashros and it's 100% Shounen stuff so far lol

#We've had our yearly secret santa gifts exchange at my dorm and I've been gifted the first volume of Beast 😭😭😭😭😭#I'm crying forever. This december marks three years since I've watched the first b/sd episode#and yet this is the first time I actually own a b/sd manga volume. Like I own it and I can read it whenever I want!!! How cool is that!!!!!#Like there's so many Akutagawa images in it!!!! It's insane!!!!!!!! AND IT'S BEAST AT THAT#I'm deeply moved because I never spoke about it to virtually anyone here (at my dorm)?#Like I suppose a bunch of people vaguely know I like anime but only a couple of close friends know I like. Like-like reading manga lol.#And the person who gifted it DEFINITELY didn't know I like anime in general much less b/sd specifically much less Beast in particular!!!!!#I'm 100% sure (they just arrived this year and we hadn't even had that much occasions to talk to each other).#Which means they went through the trouble of gathering intel from my close friends about what I like and actually follow through‚#seek for the specific manga in a comic store etc... It's such a nice gesture I'm so heartwarmed.#And of course I'm glad for every gift I've received in the last years (genuinely)‚ but the fact that this was the most *specific* to what–#I like. It makes it so special! They were so kind.#There must be one (1) person in this whole 60 people dorm who knows I like Beast–#(that would be the girl who introduced b/sd to me in the first place) and the fact that they asked them for it...#I feel both very grateful and lucky lol#When I unwrapped it!!! Like I thought it was just a random book which would have been nice but like!!!!!#When I actually saw through the thin paper the cover!!!! The scream I screamed in my head#Anyways!!!! I own a b/sd manga now!!!!! I've only got time to go through the first chapter so far but it's suchhhh an experience.#It's like reading it for the first time again 😭😭😭 Half because the translation is so much different than the English one lol.#And I basically know the English version by heart. Half because I never saw this kind of high quality!!!!! It's!!!!! Insane!!!!! Like!!!!!!#I'm crying 😭😭😭 The drawings are so sharp and crisp (in the good way). The lines are so clean there's no disturbance at all#I literally never saw anything so good in my life I'm crying a little. I'm so so glad they blessed me with Beast specifically#The takebon edition is pretty cheap (it's just planet manga so there's no color illustrations or dust cover or anything unfortunatelly.#But to make up for it the volumes are significantly cheaper then let's say J-Pop)#There's also some unique typesetting choices? The text from the book-like boxes is in lowercase which is interesting!#Initially I thought I wouldn't have liked the translation (opening it randomly there was Akutagawa saying “crepa!” (“die!”) to Dazai in ch1#Which was kinda jarring since it's very low register and everyone knows Akutagawa has very complex speech patterns.)#But actually reading it I'm really enjoying the translation so far!!!!#There's so many choices that made me grasp details I actually missed all the times I've read the English translation.#That is to say! Very excited to read it!!!! Will probably make a review / translation commentary if I can find the time!!!!!

Finally saw Wicked today. I fear it is, in fact, actually all that and a bag of chips. Like it is genuinely that good
#ramblings of a lunatic#storywise i actually found that they were stretching act 1 a bit thin and it showed in the pacing#but in terms of execution of the musical numbers and aesthetic quality of the sets/costumes/etc???#ohhh bitch. I'm sorry im so fucking seduced by john chu's vision of oz#i am also on team 'this bitch should be more technicolour' but I'm also not a lighting/cinematography guy#like i like Pictures and Images but I'm shit at lighting + composing film shots so yknow. stones and glass houses and everything#anywayyy i love the wizard of oz im a little obsessed w the wziard of oz and all related properties maybe. maybe#god idk if I'd actually enjoy it but i would be really curious to read the book version of wicked. i know it's incredibly different#not just in terms of focus and content but also in terms of being very dense and reportedly a lot drier#but also i do want to see his vision very badly. like when he made oz a surveillance state?? that's smart! it's plainly in the og series!#it's just treated as normal there#but anyway yeah back to the musical i am NOT ashamed to admit i got full body chills during defying gravity#there were parts that were so. sincere and self serious and melodramatic that i couldn't help but love#like YES enough!! with the self referential ironic humour crammed into everything!!!#linger on a moment for far too long and make me sit uncomfortably in the saccharine melodrama!!! it's good for me!!!#the people want big budget fantasy musicals gang...they want razzle and dazzle and heartfelt song!!#and i agree with the ppl. i AM the ppl#wicked movie. good. i enjoy#might just be riding the high of watching it but like idc I'm allowed

I enjoy media by getting so into it that anything I say is incomprehensible to a non fan. Sometimes even to a very casual fan.
Examples:
"MACKEREL!"
"Octokittens." / "The ship is biomechanical. The ship is sentient. The ship was also once a moon. This means that the ship, as a moon, was sentient and also at least somewhat fleshly."
"Oh. Yknow. The giant fucking angler fish god?"
"Oh. Yknow. The homophobic vase."
"Okay, but how did no-one see two children dragging a corpse to a tree?"
"The candy is a sedative!?" / "Bagged children"
"Five pebsi: triple affirmative." / "Catboy Pebbles."
"Where did you go, Tidedad?"
"If I read the word preternatural one more time I'm going to scream."
"Oh. Yknow. Erika."
#Good luck figuring these out#I'll list the Fandoms just so that literally anyone sees this#Also the best part? One of these could refer to two different ones. Have fun with that#welcome to night vale#the magnus archives#the magnus protocol#the mechanisms#the mechs#dr carmilla#mage errant#carmilla webseries#carmilla book#flight rising#rain world#little nightmares#omori#And technically#If you squint#The silt verses#(NO SILT SPOILERS PLEASE IM NOT VERY FAR ALONG)#Also have not finished the carmilla webseries because I am eepy

best New Year's Eve in forever cos my sister and I fucking FINALLY started watching Interview with the Vampire
#interview with the vampire#it's literally the only show I've actually wanted to start lately and it still took me over 2 years to find the time#it's actually wild how little tv I watch now. part of it is not having the time but also#the state of the industry rn has made me fall out of love with the medium#shows either keep running and turn to shit or get cancelled after one or two seasons so it's hard to want to start something new#all that said lol we watched 2 episodes and I'm enjoying it so far#I'm not completely bewitched by it yet. hoping I get pulled in more and more as it goes which i can def see happening#I've seen plenty of bits and pieces and knew it would be super different from the book#but it's somehow even more different than I expected lol#in a way it's a good thing cos I can just take it as it is and not compare#I just still need time to wrap my head around these characters; this setting; this plot#because it's pretty much like entering an entirely new property haha#the dynamic between Louis and Lestat is of course fascinating - both very similar and very different to the book#and yeah I'm having a good time with it so far and intrigued to explore these versions of the characters#the book is one of my all time favourites and still reigns supreme at this point but we'll see if the show can catch up 👀

Most annoying advertising trend is "the new [existing media]!!!" because maybe 7 times out of 10 it's doing a disservice to both the new and old thing
#like okay 'oh hey you liked [x]? have you tried [y] you might like it too!' is the basic format of basically any recommendation that's a#normal thing#it just annoys me when I get a book and emblazoned across the cover is reviews from all the newspapers that could fit about how it's#'America's new Hunger Games!!!!' [1] or 'Good Omens with Arthurian knights!!!!' [2] like hush. let me come to my own conclusions.#[1] Chain Gang All Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah. incredible book; has death games like THG but for a different purpose (American priso#system). furious humanising and absolutely devastating#[2] Perilous Times by Thomas D Lee. also very good so far; unlike GO it's people all the way down (more or less) in this one#focuses on a very British corner of the end of the world (much like GO) except with 33 more years of cynicism and leftist infighting

Okay as someone who does fighting, I don’t know why it’s so hard to write like what the funk. Like how do I describe a character putting their leg down after blocking an outside thigh kick with their shin, and then pivoting on that foot to spin and bring their other leg around to kick the other person in the chest, and then being pulled forward by their own weight and speed after said other person dodges the kick? Like????? (That is basically how I’ve described it in the fic). Like does that kind of make sense? Like just a little bit even? I hope so
Anyways, I plan to finish sometime today bc I don’t think I’ll be doing much at this point. I wanna go play soccer but the tum tum hurts so I guess not.
Gay fighting fics cure the illnesses <33
#nimona#ambrosius goldenloin#ballister boldheart#ballister#goldenheart#ballister x ambrosius#nimona movie#writing#fighting#how do you write intense gay fight scenes#this is also very good practice for when I plan to write a book in the future#bc yk#fighter lesbians#but I’m stuck on this atm so let’s not look too far into the future am I right
