askldhaj this was super fun to make! But also took a decent amount of time, and yet I love it so much! I'm very proud of how they all look! I'm also happy with the changes my art has gone through, altho I need to do way more different poses,,ack my weakness lol.

All I ask is that you guys aren't to harsh about these headcannon designs. I personally hate that almost every Sandwing is the same sandy desert color. Character Headcannons -

Blaze - The blue jewelry she owns is from her girlfriend Glacier. She made it especially for her and she wears it with pride. - While ditsy she's gain some plant knowledge from her dead brother Scald. They were very close, spending hours together painting claws, tending to plants and trying on makeup! - She sounds like Pinky Pie from Gen 4! (I love pink characters so much agh!!) - She now spends her time with Glacier (I'm sorry but I can't let her die, Blaze needs her so badly) often helping healers with plant knowledge and trying to figure out how to get plants to grow in the Ice Kingdom. - I wanted her to look like a strawberry dragon, it just felt perfect! PINK PINK PINK!!

Blister - She's quite thin compared to her more plump or round family. Built like a snake and sounds like one too. - Her amber jewerly was gifted from her father, she loves her jewelry as she despises her mother. Giving all her attention to Blaze because "she's the baby of the family" while Oasis boasts about Burn's power in battle. Her mother tried to connect with her but she liked Char. He always knew what to say when she was upset. She was devastated when Char passed away. - She sounds like Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty 1959 - Has an secret obsession with poisons, although she herself is quite afraid of being poisoned. - I wanted to stay mostly close to the pale snake motif. Although I just couldn't help adding orange n red to make her look fiery, almost like a super venomous snake. One that wears it's toxicity on it's scales to warn others. Also wanted her diamonds to look more interesting, I always though cannon diamonds were way to cluttered.

Burn - Had a fling with Scarlet, thought she was pretty and quite interesting. But really wasn't looking for a relationship, and after the whole face venom thing well they were not getting back together. - Def sounds like Lady Dimitrescu from RE8 - Despises her brother Singe. Everytime she looked at that awful weasel he always had something to say, either behind her back or right to her face. He always teased her for not being great at speaking or writing. Teased the way she walked, her slight mouth gape at all times. Till one day she ripped his neck to shreds, sending the dragonet almost to the heavens. After that day she was placed into fighting training where she became the power house she is now. - Once she killed her brothers she took her time with Singe, torturing him for as long as she could. She gave Scald a more, "merciful" kill but anything would seem merciful if you saw what she did to Singe. - Yes she's a dark color bc I thought it was neat, made her look alot like her papa. She has also cut most her frill/hair off bc of dangers of fighting. Less things to grab! I tried making her hair kinda like a roman helmet but kept the theme for most the family.

Oasis - Big boss bitch who knows exactly what to do! Smart, cunning and beautiful, she does have one odd thing about her. Body mods, she loves them dearly and enjoys her horn piercing's (altho they were a bitch to put in, their horns have a lot of nerves). She's also a adrenaline junkie, so her piercing addiction, lots of treasure and devious tactics are perfect for her. - Loves her small man Char. If you walked in a room with both of them it's a lot like Mortica and Gomez Addams. She was devastated when Char passed away, become a more unhinged dragon in the process. - She sounds like Mortica Addams from Wednesday (I just had to, sounds perfect). - I wanted a more light, warm theme with Oasis. Almost like desert terracotta, and yes hear scales! I thought it was cute on Blaze but Oasis HAD to have them. I also had to give her dark curly hair with highlights bc omgomg I loooove that so much.

Char - Sounds like Gomez Addams from Wednesday (hehe small man n big wife gang) - Malewife energy all the way. He constantly embellishes himself in beautiful amber jewels while taking care of the look of the palace. Talking to his servants and giving all his children as much time as he can. His wrinkles and bags are from all the duties he does. Although he would never change it for the world, especially for his love for Oasis. - Def has an addiction to coffee, I mean how is he going to help Scald get those new plant imports in, and buy Blaze's new makeup, help Singe hunt that beautiful beast he saw in the desert- (you get it lol). - I really wanted "im very tired" vibe with him. I also wanted to go with a dark/char look to him while keeping bright reds, oranges and yellows for fire! It gives him an intimidating look, but also has alot of warmth to it.

Smolder - Hoenstly I don't have much for Smolder, other than that he was probably the straight man of the family. Although way more chill and with horrible sleeping issues! He's an insomniac and takes traditional medicine Scald makes for him to help him fall n stay asleep. - Sounds like Legoshi from Beastars - I had to make this dude greasy n tired. It was just a great idea imo. Like he has to be tired dude, and he doesn't have time to bathe!! I also made him more orange than Blister altho making sure it make them look like they come from the same hatching.

Scald - I made him into a femboy- ENOUGH SAID, lmao. Seriously though I really wanted to give Blaze a best friend, she really deserves it! So: a very femine brother who loves beauty products but also looooves plants! He's obsessed with em and his mother made him his very own greenhouse. He loves his plants and takes care of them as much as he takes care of Blaze. - Do not underestimate this small dude, he will kick your ass. Not only is he pretty but he will fight to protect Blaze and to prove a point. Although he is no idiot and will not pick fights, more so he fights for things worth fighting. Although he has a fear of needles so no peircings for him! - Sounds like Stolits from Helluvaboss - Blaze is a strawberry dragon, SO TANGERINE DRAGON TIME! I just really think the orange works very well for him, and I honestly wanted to make a femine male character bc I havn't really done that in a bit. I espically had fun with the flower necklace as I think it makes him stand out quite well against his family.

Singe - Awful stinky man, so smelly! He's two faced, lying, manipulating and egotystical dragon. Often picking fights with Burn as its easy for her lack of brains....well untill he was torn to shreds by her. After that he became way more fearful of the dragoness. Using expensive furs from the animals he's hunted. He's also very cowardly so no fighting or even peircings for him. - Obv sounds like Karl Heisenberg from RE8 - Honestly just a peice of shit, I have really nothing else to say lmao. - I wanted to do one more pink dragon before I finish the designs. I espically wanted a burnt pink dragon idea in mind, kinda like Char but pink! Random Teen Titans thoughts, 1966 edition:

-nothing can escape Aqualad’s notice. Not giant, noticeable ears or giant, metal conquistadores

-I’m pretty sure TT #1 is the introduction to characters, especially Robin, saying “Quick like a bunny, Kid Flash!” which is just really funny to me

-this happens more often than I thought (I’m rereading these early comics), but Robin almost always explains things when asked. And his explanations are always long and in-depth and he is a giant nerd

-Robin says “What can possibly happen?” because he’s Robin and that’s just what Robin does

-Robin says “Hope there’s nothing more popping from that pyramid!” because he did not learn his lesson the first time

-the villain made a giant, metal conquistadore, but the weird animals with human faces were just incarnations of the beast god. Nobody questions this

-I think Kid Flash practices by juggling with his feet. Otherwise, I have no idea what the panel was implying

-“You’re strictly feom Squaresville if you don’t put down the drags - like you’re cubed, but def!”

“You sure that is English, Penny?”

I love this interaction and I’m with Garn on this one, sorry, Penny

-Aqualad says “great waves and all that jazz” basically mocking the interjections they’ve all been saying (including him) and I just think that’s funny

-Kid Flash says “Better find a hole in the sky, and hide this egg-beater, Robin!” and no, context does not make it make any sense

-Wonder Girl ties her hair to a tree branch because her grip is slipping. Miraculously, this works

-the image of Wonder Girl holding up Aqualad, who is holding up Robin, who does not seem to notice nor care about his current predicament, is both adorable because Robin has such complete faith in his teammates and hilarious because he is dangling precariously with only an Aqualad to keep him from falling

-Aqualad says “Quick like a bunnyfish- if there is such a thing!” I’m pretty sure he’s making fun of Robin

-Gotham banks have machine guns set up in their walls, in case of burglaries. This explains quite a lot

-Robin says his math mark (his math grade) could be better, and I do not believe him

-Ding-Dong Daddy Dowd’s shop is called Ding-Dong Daddy Dowd’s Hot-Rod Hive: the Hottest Buckets This Side of Dragsville, and I don’t know how to feel about that

-Robin gets handcuffed to a speeding motorbike. He can’t stop the bike, but I just don’t understand the thought process. If Ding-Dong wants him dead, why did he not just kill him? Ding-Dong is a ding dong

-Kid Flash: “I failed.”

Aqualad: “I failed.”

Robin: “We all failed.”

10/10 leadership

-The narration claims that there was an outstanding outcry for Speedy to be added. I don’t know if I believe them. This is only issue #4

-Speedy decides it would be better to break into the Teen Titans’ hideout and set off the alarm, instead of giving them any head’s up that he’s coming. He’s right, it was better

-someone swapped Speedy’s arrows with explosive-rigged arrows and expected Speedy not to notice

-Davey (important character)’s dad tries to intimidate Robin, which was just hilarious. You really think Robin, Boy Wonder from Gotham City (the city with machine guns in the bank walls) is going to be intimidated but a bad dad? Silly

-Kid Flash says “I’d know that beautiful racing form anywhere!” of Davey, and I just think that’s funny

-Davey’s dad is the absolute worst. He made his son cry. He’s such a dick

-Davey says “I’m going like a big-tailed bird, Robin!” and I just don’t understand the relevance

-Davey’s dad decides to be less of an asshole, which is nice

-this exchange between Wonder Girl and Robin:

“He’s cute- cuter than any of you characters!”

“You can bet your magic lasso, W.G., that we will hook up with Speedy again!”

-the Ant is the son of a circus strongman and an acrobat. He and Robin should be pals

-Robin calls Aqualad “Sea Flea”

-Beast Boy can’t be part of the Doom Patrol without guardian permission. He also can’t be part of the Teen Titans without guardian permission (Robin saying “Batman had to okay me!” is funny because who did Batman okay Robin to?) Beast Boy thinks they just think he’s a freak, and runs off to the circus

-I saw a review say that Beast Boy’s arc was too similar to Pinocchio, because Beast Boy wants to “be a real hero,” but I have no idea where that idea came from? Beast Boy doesn’t give a shit about being a hero, he just wants to go somewhere and feel like he belongs

-Aqualad says this: “Holy hagfish, Robin… you figure we can get away with this bit- impersonating circus performers?” which is just funny because he’s asking the circus performer if he can accurately perform in a circus (I don’t think the Teen Titans know each other’s identities at this point)

-Robin calls Aqualad “Minnow”

-Robin says they should rethink letting Beast Boy join the team, and in the end, it’s left up the the audience to decide. As in, us, the readers reading the comic. As I said before, I’ve read a lot of these comics before (up to #43), and Beast Boy does not appear as part of the team in any of these issues. Poor Beast Boy

-I ship Robin and Aqualad, and I can’t explain it. I just find their dynamic, Aqualad questioning Robin and Robin being generally unfazed, is cute. And he calls Aqualad “Minnow” come on

3. What were your top five books of the year?

(I will restrict this list to recreational reading only, bc tbh most of my top five would actually be good stuff i read for work!)

The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle- i think this was the first one i read in january (it was a christmas gift from Books, back when i wasn't sure if this thing was real yet). it's one of those books that feels so familiar and whole that you can't believe it hasn't been part of your life before. it's just such a perfect little high fantasy story- not too serious, but not too simple, not bloated with unnecessary worldbuilding details, but still feels very lived-in. i loved it so much and i know it's one i will return to many times more.

The Devourers by Indra Das- a journey! i'm a slut for stories about shapeshifters, and i really liked what this book did with that. it's tense and sexy, and the perfect length for the story it's trying to tell. lots of sensory detail made it feel wonderfully immersive. it's not like anything else i've ever read.

The Bruising of Qilwa by Naseem Jamnia- it's definitely got flaws, but it's an interesting fantasy medical mystery, and i was surprised how much i liked it. i'm not usually one to get attached to a protagonist, but i really enjoyed this one.

Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky- human space exploration drama plus super-intelligent giant spider society bullshit. fun. the protag didn't sit well with me, but he's so boring and such a non-entity that it barely affected my enjoyment of the book. i took issue with some of the gender politics (i love when men write matriarchal societies that are just genderswapped patriarchy without being thoughtful about why that phenomena would arise in the first place 🙄 this one is more thoughtful than some i've seen, but there were still a few eye roll moments). all that being said, it is a very compelling, crunchy sci-fi novel that i would recommend.

Love after the End edited by Joshua Whitehead- a great collection of queer and two-spirit indigenous speculative short stories, some of which have realllly stuck with me!

bonus bonus can't not mention it!: Cosmoknights vol. 1 (reread) and vol. 2 (new!) by Hannah Templer- i just fucking love these space lesbians so much!

4. Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?

i'm down hard for the aforementioned Naseem Jamnia! Zin E. Rocklyn's Flowers for the Sea didn't make it into my top five, but i will definitely keep an eye out for anything they do next. i'm in the middle of Out There Screaming, and so far Cadwell Turnbull and Lesley Nneka Arimah are new-to-me authors i'm def gonna get more into. there were also a few authors in Love after the End that i want more of, but i've added their books to my goodreads want to read and forgotten their names since i returned that book to the library.

apparently i'm about to reach out to my biological mom, who was the main source of my childhood trauma and who i have not seen since i was like 12 (when my grandparents finally got full custody after an 8 year custody battle). because my grandparents are not great and i've finally been realizing and accepting that. i cannot deal with living here much longer but they've made it so i'm basically trapped and unable to leave, and i have no one else to turn to because they've spent my entire life convincing all of them that i'm a "problem child" who is "out to get them" and that they're the most perfect, ideal parents ever. (which i bet is the exact same thing they did with my bio mom.. she had her issues, but i think they villainized her instead of helping her. and also never admitted that they also made mistakes and are not as amazing as they believe themselves to be.)

so ironic. bio mom abused and traumatized me, grandparents stepped in to help get me away from her. then my grandparents also abuse and traumatize me.. so now i'm turning back to my bio mom hoping for help and understanding, since she was definitely also a victim of them.

i'm genuinely completely over all the trauma caused by my bio mom, got over it 2-3 years ago (at age 18-19.) and adding onto that the fact that i've come to the realization that my bio mom likely dealt with a lot of the same things i've been through thanks to my grandparents (her parents).. i def feel like i have a bit more understanding of why she was the way she was. and from what little i can see online, it looks like her life is a lot more normal and healthy now.

idk, at this point i just feel like "what's the worst that could happen?" and just.. something, anything needs to change. because as it stands i've been here wasting years of my life because my grandparents are basically keeping me trapped here and making my life hell and i'm sick of it. i want freedom, i want my own life, i want to exist, i want out of this fucking house.

also there's the fact that on the rare occasions that my grandmother would talk to my bio mom, my bio mom would literally always try to ask about me and how i was doing, so it seems like she did/hopefully still does care/have some interest in me.

and uh, vaguely related thought, but i just realized that it made me strangely happy to remember that my bio mom always called me her "kiddo" instead of her "daughter." like i don't recall her ever calling me her "daughter," it was always "kiddo."

and leading off of that, honestly my biggest fear with contacting her is having to come out to her as trans lmfao. i'm like 90% sure she's bisexual so that gives me a bit of hope that she'll be accepting and supportive, but ahhh what if she's not :sob: i guess we'll see lol

edit 2 days later: she blocked me and privated her account without responding. didn't even wait to see what i wanted to talk about :) i understand but also i do not, because my entire childhood and even up until like 2 years ago she would always ask my mom about me, ask how i was doing, ask if she could talk to me. but now that i'm ready to talk to her, she doesn't want to. why is this my life lmfao, i'm so fucking alone

SMALLETHO WEEK STATUS: PENULTIMATE REPORT

(please let this be penultimate report)

Okay I have 11 hours to get these out in saturday my time zone and i am going to do it, or i'll take my me off and throw me in the lake (it's right there down the street I'll do it.)

You'd think they'd be done by now. You'd think given how many days ago they were first "basically drafted" they'd be done right now. But noooo, some bitch (me) decided the fic "deserve more" and there are scenes "they really need" and like fine yes I still agree but why can't they just be done.

Red Life fic:

the first three sections are about incidents after turning red than made etho go "huh" about joel. they serve their purpose, but currently exist mostly in the form i scrawled down on the back of another fic in my car after the dentist. I could def describe things more, add a little more reflection about their place in the double life ecosystem as they start murdering and burning

gotta make good kiss at end, and the last bits of lead in, and the little bit after

the main issues here is that i gotta go rewatch DL ep 4 from multiple POVs. at minimum i need pearl's pov of dying, and maybe check for some other people's reactions to joel's shit that are not in smalletho vids but in universe they would have heard. (if only i could shove knowledge of every traffic episode fully into my head, sigh. so much content.

so that's not too bad!

LARPer au morning after fic

apparently i'm adding all this backstory, which means i got to take it out o the author's notes, which i hope will make it more appealing. it's mostly about the party that this is morning after, but it's joel pov and *very* focused on getting laid, he's kinda aware that a lot of shit went down for pretty much everyone else

i want to add a very quick awkward bit with joel asking jimmy about the party the night before, currently he's totally succeeding at making joel (who is very distracted) think he's fine. and it's not gonna get explained in this story, but i'm not setting up a giant mystery, it's just more of "joel missed some shit last night". if that upsets people... i'm sorry! i'm actually very new t writing fic but it feels fine? it's a 5k story, alluding to the rest of the world seems fine

then it's just, fuck holding my breath... 40 sets of []. many many many of them, when i have people look at them, they say "that's fine", and it's just me at "will i have a time to struggle for a synonym/rephrasing

Dear everyone who compliments my writing skill (which i love, keep on doing it)

i hope you are not comparing yourself to me. here's some reasons why i probably have a leg (several legs?) up on you

i am very old and have been writing in one way or another possibly since before you could write.

I legit used to teach sat prep in writing, i have been trained in this and made money on it

if you live like i do, when you are my age you will also have a pretty big vocabulary

i usually edit a lot. I get beta, i throw problem sentences and such at friends, i've gotten proofreading from actual professionals. If i published most of my first drafts, well. I might not get as many "well written" compliments (though i think my plot and characterization would be similar levels of quality, my voices not so much - i have google docs for the way people talks and go through my dialogue looking for places to change things. it's actually great. i could share it?)

it's wild that what is my most popular fic by 3x is the one that went from thought of to posted in <12 hours and thus had only quick editing. so, it's not alway from editing

i just never want anyone who doesn't have those things to compare themself negatively to me, y'know? That said I'm a hypocrite, I compare myself negatively to professional writers in other fandoms. So, do as i say, etc

am i avoiding getting back to writing? yes

okay one last thing, me being pleased with my writing - i am jumping between my early 20s larper au and my late 20s/30s burning man au, and i think i am doing a good job at giving age appropriate characterizations to similar version of the same characters. my 21 year old Etho feels 21 to me and my early 30s Etho feels early 30s to me. These ensembles are very much based on my own experiences so I've got a lot to work with, 60 year olds would be harder :)

(Thought I'd post this separately in case any non fandom people were interested.)

I was thinking to myself the other day that maybe I don't get more engagement on my tunes because ppl don't know how hard I work on them (obvs it must be that) so because so many of you asked, here's a long ass post on how I write a (fan)song.

Part 1: The Idea

Most of the time, the idea's the hardest part for me. I'll get either lyrically or musically inspired one day and play around on guitar or piano or open garageband and scroll through loops but not come up with anything i like enough to want to develop. And it's really because there's no spark behind it. That's the best part of fandom songs, I never need help for inspiration.

I get accosted with feels from a show, decide I must write a song for it, think about Stede and Ed, open gb on my phone, pick some chords and open my mouth and see what comes out.

(Le beginning)

Usually i get a lyric or two, a phrase maybe, and the start of a melody. Tbh It all happens so fast.

But after 15 minutes or so i have the bones of something; some lyrics; chorus and a verse, and what story i want to tell and where I want it to go.

Part 2: Taking Shape

Moving to the desktop now, we got a notes app with the WIP lyrics up and a few tracks from the iphone of the chord progressions for the first verse and chorus.

Usually i just have a simple guitar part, some percussion loops and bass...although if anyone has ever heard any of my songs you may notice that 'bass' always means CELLOS because i REALLY like low strings cuz they are DRAMATIC and i grew up on too much HANS ZIMMER.

Anyway, that's when i put my headphones on and start to sing what i have into the mic. it usually sounds very silly. i talk to myself lots. There's lots of gibberish. There are many kitty cat pitter patter sounds. (From the cats, not me)

Basically here is when I shape the content of song - edit and finish the lyrics, figuring out what story I want to tell while I do.

If I can't get the melody and lyrics to flow, what needs to change? What rhythm might work where, what's awkward, what lyric is too cliche or could hit harder?

What instruments do i want in this song? Do I want to add any ahhs or mmms or ooos to the background? what part is boring, what type of sound might make things pop?

Musically, I take out anything that doesn't feel good to my ears and add in anything they want to hear. Lyrically i try to add more depth with less words at any necessary phrase changes - any constraints actually makes lyric-writing easier for me (rhyming is also great for that)

I sand it down, smooth it out; make it into a song I would want to listen to and as a vocalist one I want to sing. This is only a first draft of the song, but the more I like it, the better i'll sing it.

Part 3: Finalizing Melody/Adding Harmonies

Usually i take a break between pt 2 and pt 3. My uncle likes to say i wear a lot of hats doing the song thing and i think he's onto something. Songwriter hat, lyricist, arranger, vocalist, topliner, engineer, producer, i kinda have to dabble in all them to get a song into a song. I def wear some better than others tho. And arranging harmonies is probably my favorite. At least, this is the part that comes most naturally to my earballs.

First I'll either piece together or record a new rough lead vocal of the final melody. I'll probably sing through it a couple times just to make sure everything feels good and locked in. I'll pick my favorite take, mute the others, and at last, it's harmony time bitches.

I make a new vocal track, press play, and then stop and record at any place i hear there ought to be harmony. A lot of time that's like, everywhere.

Sound painting i call it.

What can I say, I did a lot of choir and i hear a lotta harmonies and I'm so adhd guys i just wanna put all the noTES EVRRYWHERE

I go through a few runs of this. I'll want to make sure i have everything i hear recorded, even if i don't use it, so i can figure out what actually sounds good. I then have a LOT of extemporaneous harmonies to go though. As i enjoy pain, I then go through those.

I sort of go back and forth between zooming out and zooming in during this part. Zooming out on the entire song, figuring out what doesn't click, what's too much, what needs more and what needs less and then zooming in on the actual harmony parts. Does the vocal blend blend? Does it sound sexy or just dissonant af?

The more parts I add the more i have to make sure something wonky doesn't go and wonk everything up. The harmonies are never very complicated, usually just a 3rd and maybe a 5th in places. But i like to do counter melodies sometimes and then put harmony parts on *those* as well. Sometimes i add a bass vocal or a high octave, sometimes i do that on only certain words or phrases.

At the end I'll usually end up with my lead vocal, a double at some or all the choruses, and pruned harmony tracks on the verses and choruses, bridge, and on any counter melody thing I've done at the end of the song. i listen again, rerecording any harmony parts that need some tightening. These are only rough vocals; this is to get all the parts down and recorded and ready to sing later.

After that, the hard part (of this step) is over and I can start to play around a bit. I'll listen for any places calling out for what i like to call ~sparkles~ - moments where some ear candy would enhance the song. A high octave heaped in reverb somewhere, maybe an echo effect for one word only.

Once i start the sparkles part well... o the vocal plugins... the reverb alone... all the different ambience and echo-y sounds you can try, "church reverb", "echo chamber reverb"...

You guys there's just. So many presets. Wtf does 'dark rising hall' sound like? I dunno but i'm about to find the fuck out.

i lose time then. Some hours pass. Days mayhaps.

Part 4: Vocals

Oh vocals. See this part. This part sounds like fun right? The singing! I love the singing of the song! And I do actually! But this part? This isn't singing. This is recording. And it's the actual worst.

See, I am, at heart, a theatrical singer. A performer if you will. And if I may draw your attention to this microphone on the left here:

This one on the left? This is a dynamic mic. This is my friend. This is a mic you use on stage. Where some people belt into it and others stick the whole thing in their mouths. You can do whatever with dynamic mic. Dynamic mic don't mind. Dynamic mic loves you. Dynamic mic lives for the drama of the theater.

Now the mic on the right? This mic is a mic for recording in studios. This is a condenser mic. This is a very different mic. Condenser mic very sensitive. Condenser mic pick up a fly fart. The juicy details of it too.

i have a very strained relationship with the condenser mic.

Getting the final vocals down in an apartment with paper thin walls, squeaky floors, cats licking themselves (loudly too Daphne jesus), with a condenser mic, just getting the room sound sounding soundy enough is hard enough, but then i gotta sing into the thing!

i don't edit my vocals in a program like melodyne anymore because its too fucking hard and time consuming (aka pitch correcting the pitchy notes) which is a thing you absolutely should do when you're stacking as many harmonies as i stack. But again, lazy. This means i gotta get those babies on pitch as much as I can. I have to get them at a decent level - they can't be too loud or the mic gets mad, they can't be too quiet or the fly farts will drown out my voice.

With proper breath support and a nice warmup most of the time I can get a decent tone outta myself. But guess what, your girl here? She got that long covid. And when you have lungs that are supposed to be all hot air balloon shaped but instead have become more like knotted up twisty straws and you gotta breathe real good to get a nice tone that isn't brittle or pitchy...

oh and remember those harmonies i love arranging oh so much? Gdi me. Gdi.

So yeah this part's really hard. It may take a while depending on the state of my voice (or yk, lungs/general health) it'll get done over the span of several days, lately, because my voice gives out so quickly. But eventually ill have a few takes of each vocal part, maybe 3, of performances where my voice was in ok enough shape.

Oh but we're only halfway done this part.

Part 4a: Comping

Now its time to go through the song one line at a time. And listen to all three sung versions of that line. One at a time. And pick which one is least offensive to my ears (aka one with a good level, nice tone and intonation, on pitch, controlled, has decent phrasing and diction and feeling too. And one I sang the correct lyrics on. I flub them more than you'd think). And then put them all together on one track to make a Final vocal track. This is called comping vocals.

I hate comping vocals.

It always gets a little messy.

I am usually very very cranky at the end of comping vocals.

Cuz remember all those harmony tracks? Guess what. I gotta comp them too. And all those sparkles and any mmms and ahhs and stuff I added? Yep. They gotta be comped. And *then* i gotta blend them together with fade outs and fade ins so it doesn't sound like 3 takes spliced together. And then I gotta make sure there's no kitty feets in them. And then I gotta reorganize them; join the regions, bounce the tracks, rename files, so it's *not* so messy and not a nightmare to mix.

Man oh man. I love to sing but i hate this part. I always get there in the end. But i have a lot of curses to edit out of those takes ill tell ya what.

Part 5: Tightening It Up And Sending It Off

At this point i can take off the vocalist hat and go back to the song-writer/producer hat and concentrate on making this song a song other people wanna sing along with too. How much i work on this part depends highly on the song. Sometimes it feels ready where it is, sometimes not.

I listen again and pay attention to the dynamic movement of the song. Is there enough build, drama, ear candy, etc? Is there a part calling out for a random funky loop? Most importantly, is it the best version of the song my ears can hear?

i start trying things. Take instruments out in places, vary them in others. Mute everything but the percussion. is it too much, not enough? Mute everything but the percussion and bass, the heartbeat of the song. Is it vibin'?

I think about the characters, think about how i feel listening to the lyrics; do they evoke them the way I wanted it too? Does it say about them everything I wanted it too? Does it need something more at the end, a hook all throughout? Should i take a sparkle and expand on it?

A bitch can get lost in this phase. But I'm better at it than you'd think after writing all that out. Because really, i don't think. I'm just listening. What do i want to hear? It's an intuitive thing, a feeling thing.

When i don't hear any places left I can improve it's time to send it to co-producer and engineering master badass uncle man. His ears are actually the best ears. They are grammy winning ears. I used to get intimidated sending my songs to him but now after working with him for so long, i just get super excited. What's *he* gonna hear??

Part 6: Edits

Producer notes! This part might be lengthy or not at all - basically what i said, what does Uncle Badass hear? He is very very good at hearing things. Sometimes he'll hear something sticking out that isn't working, sometimes he'll hear that the song needs a fucking church bell like in Safe to Land (which i maintain is a legit stroke of genius it works so well. 'Member Ricky's exploding clock? Wtf. UB don't even watch the show, how'd he know?)

Sometimes he'll notice a vocal thing, a harmony he hears and thinks I could add, a part of the song that needs to go somewhere different. Maybe something will sound wonky in the chords or harmonies.

Sometimes, i didn't get the vocals sounding quite right at all and so...yup. You guessed it. They need a total redo. Part 4 here we go again.

Sometimes it'll be the guitar part i have sucks ass because i'm not a very good guitar player. But hey just my luck. Guess who is.

(Uncle Badass)

So yeah he'll add some sweet ass guitar for me.

He will also tune up my fake instruments to sound a little less fake. For example bass (not the cellos this time); i am not a bass player and it's not the part of a song i attune to naturally unless it stands out, which means the bass parts in my songs are very one note most of the time (ha); he'll add some walk up/downs, maybe, move it around so it sounds more like s bassist playing a bass and not someone pushing a button on a screen. it's pretty neat.

Once we've decided the edits to the arrangement and I've done and finalized any vocal edits I needed to do then it's mixin' time.

Part 7: Mixin', Mastering, And The Final Mix

This is my favorite part because i don't have to do anything. Well mostly. I start to think about like, oh, sharing, I have to like, put it on the online places. Because if I made an art and no one see/hears it, did I really make an art??

This involves very little because i am bad at it.

I really love people like, listening to my songs, that's the point yk? But I don't like anywhere but, eh, tumblr. So usually i just tell my small group of hellsite frez, only a fraction of whom are in the fandom thing the song is about, and make a bad lyric video. I used to do the twitter and the other places; there was a hot minute during the Hannibal times that my songs were getting some real listen-age, it was fun! And i made a couple people cry. Which was the goal really so I've peaked.

But yk, I like my songs. I like it when other people interact with and like my songs too. But i don't really care if they do or they don't anymore. It's the getting older part I s'pose. And also fan edits are like 10 seconds long now. My millennial ass with all my 4 minute show-tunes don't have a chance on this here musk's internet. But I digress.

Anywho, while I'm not doing much, my uncle's *working* on this thing. He's been doing this for... yk what im not gonna tell you how long he's been doing this for because he'd say it makes him sound old. And it's impossible. Did you see that pic? That mofo will never be old.

So yeah, Uncle Badass puts on his engineer hat and makes this thing sound like a song. I've tried my best at audio engineering; i haven't quite gotten it down, but I know enough to know how little I know, you know? It's pretty amazing, I send him a lot of noise and he cleans it up and glosses it all up and finishes it and makes it into a song that sounds like a song.

After a few days he'll usually send me back a gorgeous thing and i'll be like OMG THIS IS A GORGEOUS THING. and then listen to it thrice more and be like OK LET'S TWEAK THIS PART OF YOUR GORGEOUS THING

This usually is just more arrangement talk, nitty gritty details this time tho, maybe i want an instrument to come in a measure earlier, maybe i want to just *hear* that and see if i like it better (and then ofc, he would make that edit for me...and many times...I don't actually like it better...and he un-edits it. But the ears. They want want they want yk?)

We go back and forth a lot during this part.

We tweak here and there, slowly but surely morphing the song into what I heard in my brain when I wrote it back in Part 1, when it was just an idea and a lil stanza in my notes app.

This is a very cool part. Cuz then it's done! It's mixed and mastered and ready to go and just THERE! I can hear it! It's real! It's me! And we made a whole bunch of sound that didn't exist before! How cool is that?

Ahh finished song dopamine is the best.

So, yeah! That's how I write a song. And how it goes from a lil idea to a finished Art. And it feels good to finish an art! And then I post it on tumblr dot com and it gets 2 notes! But hey

alastor moody is born at home, in a small brick house by the seaside that has been in the family for generations; the yard is quaint, if somewhat overgrown, the wooden window frames spiderwebbed and peeling white paint, the chimney billowing smoke in the winters. although he often longs for a sibling, he remains an only child all his life. at the time of his birth, his parents are early in their careers as aurors, and thoughful, foresightful people above all; with their demanding schedules they think no more than one child is best. it’s not a terrible decision, by any means, and there is enough love in the household to go around.

in his second year, though, the headlines change. he is called out of history of magic class — something he had almost enjoyed, at the time, and still hates himself for — and brought to the headmaster’s office, where he’s made to wait until his mother arrives. he’s sixteen when he hears of his father’s death, and it feels like the unshakeable world comes crashing in. he thinks he can prepare for death, steel himself against the pain and struggle through mourning with a straight spine and dry eyes, but he’s a fool, and just a boy at that.

he’s outgrown his childhood funeral suit, so he wears his father’s mourning robes to the funeral; they’re well-worn, mended at the hems, and alastor finds two knuts and a sickle in the pockets. he leans on his mother, and she leans on him, and she seems both stronger and more vulnerable than he’s ever seen her. they sit shiva together, the two of them in their little seaside home. alastor’s always felt distant from the muggle locals and neighbors, friendly but unable to connect, but they show up all the same. in twos and threes they arrive with their food, condolences, well-wishes, their offers to weed the yard or pick up groceries for the mourning family; it’s their good will that helps the moodys through their grief, more than the ministry’s stiff condolences and posthumous honours.

he returns to hogwarts changed; more anxious, more wary. his heart leaps in his throat every time he receives a letter, fearful it will be news of his mother’s death. he grows harder, less tolerant of snide anti-muggle comments even when they’re almost innocuous. he’s always been a relatively serious boy, but now he hardly laughs at all, and when he does, there’s a bite to it. he excels in school, working doubly hard, already certain he must become an auror and insistent upon achieving it, but there’s no pride in it, no competition; he just knows what needs to be done.

but as months turn to years the passing time lulls him into a false sense of security; at some point, the pain of loss turns from a sharp agony to an ever-present but dull ache. alastor joins the quidditch team, the duelling club ( where he quickly gains a formidable reputation ), has his first of many hogsmeades dates, and feels, foolishly, that life might simply carry on, without too much effort on his behalf. even as war brews on the horizon he assures himself it will be an easy victory, that strength and righteousness will always win out. he prepares, but with a youthful foolishness; he thinks this might be the chance to avenge his father, to protect the weak, to prove himself a warrior.

the summer between his sixth and seventh year, his mother is so busy she’s barely in the house; when she is, it’s never long before she’s called to yet another meeting, yet another raid. he visits her office often, tea and sandwiches in tow, memorizing the names and faces that are pinned up around the auror office, the most wanted, the suspected conspirators, the known associates. the writing is on the wall: danger approaches. the house is reinforced, protection charms everywhere, locks re-spelled, alarms at all entrances, but at the same time, life goes on.

it’s a rare evening when the two of them are home together, barbecuing kebab in the yard in the late summer sun, a moment of peace among all the concern. they share a bottle of firewhiskey, reminiscing, and laughing together, and making plans to weed the front yard, paint the window frames, and mend the fence — helpful little things alastor can do over the summer while his mother is so very busy at work.

he crawls into bed drunk and at peace, thinking about paint swatches, warm breeze through the open window, the cat curled up at the foot of his bed — and startles awake hours later, still half-drunk to the sound of crashing, glass shattering, the very foundations of the house trembling. the smell of something burning rises from the stairs, and despite his fear he jumps up instantly. there are death eaters in the house ( alastor counts four but thinks there may have been more ), in their black robes and silver masks, and by the time he’s halfway down the stairs his mother is already dead. he fights back as well as he can, but he’s alone, unprepared, and is hit with a curse before he can do much of anything.

they leave him there, unconscious in the slow-smoking ruins of the sitting room. something about not unnecessarily spilling pure blood, and he’s only a boy, and clearly no threat. he is awakened as other aurors arrive, his parents’ colleagues and friends, and he’s so out of sorts he must be petrified and sedated before he can be taken to st. mungos. this time, he is drunk at the funeral, hiding red eyes behind sunglasses, and he sits his shiva alone, permitting no visitors. he takes what he needs from home: clothes, books, heirlooms, the sneakoscope and foe glass and his father’s old coat, and leaves, renting a room at the leaky cauldron for the rest of the summer.

he returns to hogwarts changed once more; furious, pained, burning the candle at both ends trying to find a way to win a war that hasn’t even truly started yet.

personality , hcs , etc. ,

alastor has always been confident, wavering between self-assured and simply cocky, depending on who you ask. he was raised to respect and value everyone, and that includes himself, but he has always also thought of himself as a little more clued in, a little more worldly, than most others. this is in part because his parents confronted him with the reality of the world at quite a young age, and in part because of the horrors he has himself witnessed. although he isn’t usually a dick about it, he does tend to think he’s the most aware, clued in person in the room, or the only one who really knows how the world works.

he’s also quite concerned with projecting the image of strength, not because he’s really that concerned with what other people think, but more because he believes pretty strongly in the whole ‘fake it till ya make it’ idea, and feels like showing weakness means you are weak. plus it makes you a target.

has a fat orange cat named fried egg, or just fry for short; she’s four years old, and the grandchild of the same cat his father had when he was at hogwarts. she’s a hellish little demon cat who does her best to catch rats, frogs, small owls, bowtruckles, bag charms, and pretty much anything else she can get her little paws on. can and will claim a whole couch in the common room by stretching out right in the middle. if there’s a small dead creature in the hufflepuff common room or dorms you know who to blame.

alastor enjoys quidditch, but isn’t particularly competitive; he likes playing beater as it’s a pretty good release for aggression. he plays an aggressive match especially against slytherins, and will more use quidditch as an outlet for his personal vendettas, rather than that it informs them. absolutely fearless on the pitch, and has broken multiple bones, including his nose. don’t play chicken with him, he can and will run straight into you just to prove a point.

although he’s something of a duelling prodigy ( or rather, he’s been well trained since a young age ) and excels at defense against the dark arts and transfiguration, alastor’s top favorite class is care of magical creatures. he just thinks they’re neat. is he a bit of a dragon fanboy ? maybe so.

deeply paranoid, suspicious, and untrusting, especially now. he keeps a notebook of notes, newspaper clippings, observations and overheard conversations, helpful spells and countercurses, and a running list of which classmates and families he suspects of being death eaters, and of which students he fears might become targets. it’s well-spelled to keep out prying eyes, but you can often find him scribbling in it when he should be taking notes in class.

just wanted to say first of all that i love plotting, hc’ing, brainstorming, etc. so please hit me up ! if nothing here works i’m super happy to think of something else. also, every single one of these is open to all genders unless specified ! i also especially love plotting based on other connections ( i.e. muse a and muse b are friends, muse b and muse c are exes, therefore muse a and muse c do not get along, or smth ) idk i just have a lot of ideas !

best friends. any house, but preferably for seventh years ? should be either order aligned or neutral but sympathetic to the order. these would be the very few people in the world alastor is still somewhat vulnerable around, and the few who can still get him to smile these days. also the only people he will take any shit from. the people he considers family, now that he has none of his own left.

other order members. the options here are so many ! people who fully share his convictions and with whom he can share his theories, who problem-solve and discuss together. people ( particularly muggleborns or younger students ) whom alastor feels very protective of and worried about. can be annoying and overbearing or he’s just keeping an eye on them from a distance, or maybe helping them train. or people who are in the order but whom alastor doesn’t trust; pretty much any pureblood / slytherin / anyone with death eater family would fall under this. lots of options !

family friends. alastor’s parents were very well-respected in the wizarding community, upstanding citizens, well-known and talented aurors, and all around good people; they could have gone to hogwarts with your muse’s parents or otherwise gotten to know them from work or through pretty much any other avenue ! this could go a few different ways, either they can be good long-term childhood friends, or perhaps they never got along but had to suck it up because their parents were friends, etc.

enemies. listen, i’m sure alastor has a ton of these ! gimme all the baby death eaters, slytherins, and pureblood supremacists. or even just characters who are just neutral but tangentially related to anyone who might be a death eater. alastor doesn’t discriminate between hatefulness and cowardice, it’s all the same to him: two sides of the same self-serving coin that gets other people killed. he can and will cause problems for them on purpose. absolutely will not hesitate to cause physical injury, or curse someone if they are out of line; you use the word mudblood in his presence and he can and will hex your tongue in a knot or, idk, turn you into a ferret.

people involved in his family’s deaths. ok this would definitely be quite a heavy plot and would need to be discussed quite a bit, but i think it could be neat ? alastor’s father died in the line of duty and may or may not have been targeted, but his mother was explicitly killed by death eaters because of the threat she posed. that could have been your muse’s death eater parents, or the hit could have been part of your character’s death eater initiation ( and maybe even the reason why al was allowed to live ? idk man just gimme the drama ) but either way ! alastor is investigating, angry, suspicious, and there will be hell to pay if he figures it out. think it could b a cute terrible dramatic plot.

exes. gimme a handful of these, with a bit of variety, please, i love them. something short-lived and intense over the course of one semester, that ends when one or both of them gets a little too far into their feelings ! something sweet and quaint in their early years, with first little hogsmeade dates and hand-holding ! a former fwb thing with bad communication that falls apart and leaves them both with some hard feelings ! good friends that think they have feelings for each other, date for two weeks, and then give it up and go back to just being pals ! honestly especially when he was slightly younger and less paranoid, depressed, etc. alastor was definitely weak as fuck for a pretty face.

the one bad ex-ish. listen i just very specifically love the idea of alastor having some insanely intense chemistry with a death eater aligned character, that enemies to lovers ( who are still definitely enemies ) vibe. every time they hook up they both regret it intensely, and are to embarrassed to ever tell their friends. they both kinda think they hate the other person, and know they’re on different sides of a brewing war, but also. brain empty very sexy.

crushes / unrequited / un-acted-upon feelings. ok listen, correct me if i’m wrong, call me out, etc. but alastor’s a whole 6′2″ of broad shoulders, gorgeous hair, green eyes, he’s all tall dark and handsome and also tortured, also a quidditch player, intimidating, etc. and i love the idea of people having crushes on him bc he’d be either annoyed or oblivious and that amuses me greatly. what a man tbh. also love the idea of him having feelings for someone, perhaps even over a longer period of time, but absolutely not wanting to tell them bc he has a bit of a martyr complex, is afraid of losing the people he loves, and also thinks he’s no good and gonna get them killed ! also could just be someone he had a crush on earlier and no longer does, but still thinks they’re just incredibly cool and admires them. could go lots of ways tbh.

study buddy. so, honestly, alastor’s not concerned that much with school beyond needing the qualifications to become an auror. this would probably be someone with similar aspirations/goals; someone who wants to get the grade but spends more time researching obscure defensive spells and countercurses and hex reversals which will never be on the test, because those are ultimately more important. they both just help support each other academically to make sure they get where they need to be, and practice and work on more advanced combat magic together as well.

neighbors. kind of, not really ? after his mother’s death alastor’s been living in a rented room in diagon alley, avoiding his family home at all costs. this could be someone who either lives there or in london more generally who he keeps running into over that summer. he’s probably deeply unpleasant particularly at that time so forgive him in advance pls.

drinking buddies. does alastor have a drinking problem ? maybe. but he also has much, much bigger problems he has to solve first, hence the drinking. he’ll manage just fine on his own too, but that doesn’t mean it’s not nice to sit in relative silence next to someone. he prefers the quiet and general Bad Vibes at the hog’s head over the three broomsticks, but isn’t that picky.

duelling rival. a member of the duelling club who alastor absolutely hates, and who hates him. they absolutely drive each other to perform better and push each other hard, but that’s not because they’re trying to help the other improve; it’s because when they duel they are actually straight up trying to kill each other, while making it seem like an accident.

Hi! I absolutely loved your demo, the story already sounds so awesome! I know you just said that you'll add shy flirt options, but i was wondering if you were also planning on adding oblivious options? I absolutely love romance (and don't read anything without it lol) but flirting typically makes me uncomfortable, even if it's shy haha

Do we need flirt points to romance a character?

thats a great idea, I really do want a range of flirting options and platonic options to be able to encapsulate all types of players so ill def keep that in mind! I think that would also best benefit keeping the flirting indicator on to keep readers aware so im glad I added that.

As for your second question, im leaning towards letting players commit to a character without having to 'flirt' in the sense that you dont have to be bold or aggressive about it, but there will have to be a level of heart options chosen (just so the game can recognize whether you're remaining platonic or diving into romance territory) so to go back to what you said about the oblivious flirting, there will be flirt options that aren't blatant flirting but will lean towards a romance, (which is why I added the option to add an indicator for options that may not be obvious to people). I don't want to alienate readers who want a romance but don't want to flirt, so there will be options to romance the characters by picking options that aren't so...ostentatious lololol

there will be romance stats in the game (it kept breaking this time around which is why it isn't in the demo, def due to my lack of coding knowledge atm) and your interactions will change a bit with how many romance and friendship points you have

but you will never just be thrown into a romantic scene unless you explicitly choose to and until you commit to a relationship, and that isn't until verryyyyy deep in the story

edit: forgot to mention that you don't HAVE to commit to a relationship if you don't want to. there will be a platonic route !

Hey! This is a bizarre ask but hopefully a welcome one after *gestures at the destruction and fire*. I’m completely new to the Loki/thorki fandom, having essentially come in via the exit door by watching the Loki tv series first. I was honestly just watching it for junk value to have something in the background while I knit. However, when I realized that I didn’t understand anything by the middle of Ep. 1, I went back to watch Thor 1 so I could get what was going on. And HOLY SHIT I was utterly captivated by Loki’s character in the original movie, as well as by the Loki-Thor and Odin family dynamics. I’ve now watched through the films and have been increasingly disappointed by the portrayal of Loki (since Avengers 1 frankly) save a few glimmers of good characterization here and there.

I can’t believe that I’m getting myself into another queer coded (and now more than coded wtf) “villain” with a tragic backstory who’s done dirty by the fandom at large, but here we are! I’m also super into thorki because goddamn… they sure do have a Dynamic™.

So I guess my question is, what is actually good here? I feel like I’ve been trying to fight my way back to Kenneth Branagh!Loki, and have been largely unsuccessful within canon content. Do you have suggestions for a newcomer re: fics, fanart, and meta that actually treats Loki seriously? (and thorki as well?)

And this isn't a bizarre ask at all. It was really nice to receive actually! And yeah! I'm so glad you went back and watched the originals. The TV Show character is a completely new character played by the same actor who has nothing in common with the original character (who yes is absolutely fascinating and captivating and multilayered). Honestly I just think of the tv character as Larry, Loki's dumb lookalike cousin bc they have nothing in common lol. So glad the show led to you discovering good content...and thorki. And yeah Thor 2011 is amazing! It's so underrated. If you want meta relating to that and also just gushing about the film you can def check out my Thor 2011 tag.

My favorite Hellweek video so far was def the one with Michelle, simply because she is one of my fav youtubers to watch. Literally, she is such an inspiration with what she does, I kinda wish SnC will collab on her channel do so some other challenges. (everyone should check out her channel it's really good) Even though she was scared in the video with SnC, I didn't mind her being jumpy because honestly she reacted like I would react in that situation lmao. It felt more genuine than how the other girls react sometimes.

I guess this time Hellweek feels a bit off because I think SnC are burnt out from doing spooky stuff. This is, I think, the longest period they did without changing their content and it starts to feel a bit reduntant. Like after a while you should get used to certain things happening but they still scream their heads off when one of their devices goes off. Their reactions are too much for someone who does this now for over a year. I also don't like the humour they have in certain videos, I don't mind them cracking jokes from time to time but sometimes it's too much. One of the reasons I don't vibe with Ghost Files (new Ryan and Shane show on Watcher) so much, it's entertaining but when they start to insult the ghosts it's just not my thing. I loved their buzzfeed unsolved true crime way more than the supernatural stuff.

I also think SnC start to compensate with over editing their stuff, like doing essentially the same video every other day they propably think we will get bored, so they want to make it scarier by adding a bunch of unnecessary pics and videos which is kinda annoying. Idk SnC are people who never stuck long with just one thing, they always did other stuff, and now they don't have their personal channels anymore because they are stuck with the main channel. I think maybe they need a creative break from it. Last year's Hellweek was great because it was new but after an entire year of only doing essentially Hellweeks every other month I get it that it can get tiring. And now they kinda positioned themselves as youtube's ghosthunters it's hard to do anything else. (but that is just my opinion)

there's really only been like two that i thought were kinda lame or borderline not that good at all, and that was mississippi mansion and myrtles plantation. and i would say the best one was the bell witch cave. the one with michelle is tied with first place to me as well, or at least one of the higher up ones. i think she was a good addition to the video and her reactions were on par with basically any other guest. i don't think she overreacted or underreacted comparatively to the other girls they've had on there.

i don't know if it's burnout, but if i may be so bold to say this: i don't actually think hell week this year is any crazier than last year's. i think they're both on the same level, the difference is the conjuring finale vs what we all kind of assume will be a not so crazy ending with the winchester mansion. i haven't finished or even started my full review of hell week, and i do want to compare it to last year's, but i honestly feel like both are basically the same, the difference is that last year's was so new to us that it was exciting, and this year it doesn't feel that way bc of the constant content they have been giving us.

if anything, i think some of us are burned out from snc and the way they do paranormal investigating. i think that's why if they continue to do hell week, they need to up the ante or do something that they don't do usually for other series or seasons. bc otherwise, what exactly separates hell week from season one or two? nothing really. it's the same ppl, for the most part, going to similar locations like before.

i will say, idk why they started hamming up the jokes a bit this time around, but it's not working in their favor in my book. besides the fact that every place they go to they're getting told to gtfo, i think it's also really weird that they would do "reenactments" and shit like that. but then on top of that, try to make it funny. it's not even a disrespectful thing (even tho it is) it's also just… not funny. and feels very out of place. i love snc and i love their humor for the most part, and i wouldn't want them to start changing that, but this…. was a no bueno type of deal for me.

and i think their reactions are fine bc realistically they're going to these new places they've never been before and they don't know if they're gonna get evidence so i can only imagine it does freak them out regardless when they do get it. plus, it would be very jarring if they all of sudden just stop having reactions to things bc they've grown used to it. they could calm down a bit tho lol

and like i mentioned in another ask, i feel like they wanted to try out new stuff bc it's hell week, which is fine if you're not in a time crunch. but clearly they are and were. so it's a bit weird to me to pull out all the stops when you don't have the time to fully deliver it.

i plan to make a list with my hell week review of things i would love for them to start implementing or doing next year with whatever content they do come out with. god knows they won't see it, but it's nice to know that i'm just putting my thoughts out there. but one of the major things i would love for them to do is to honestly a) find time for themselves to just… not work and b) start back up the personal channels. bc i think that's where they got to get a lot of creativity out that they don't get to do on the main channel.

Just Gon update the physical release situation so no one else has to search the blog:

Spill your guts the 🦞physical edition🦞 is still on. However. Due to copyright law it can no longer be a fanfic. character names, appearances, backstories, and other misc things have to be changed so we don't get taken to court.

It is likely to be a self published work. I won't bore y'all with publishing talk but getting published is a long painful process. That of which will likely never happen for syg as it was previously a fanfic. If it were to be published I'd have to literally delete syg off the face of the earth-most likely. And we don't exactly want to do that.

Syg is currently halfway through it's first rewrite draft. By halfway I mean halfway through the first book witch is the prologue to roughly chapter 22. We're doing our best to keep the story the same though we've added a few curve balls that'll make it a (hopefully) funner read.

Once THIO wraps up I plan on moving it up in my list of writing priories.

I plan on dropping some designs and doodles sometime soon. YN LN has been changed to the aply named Ryan Ellen. Syg's title MAY change to slightly distance the works. Much is this is for people who enjoy our work we are aware other parties who otherwise wouldn't read syg due to it being a fanfic will pick it up. We'll see though.

It is both the easiest and the hardest choice she’s ever made. Orpheus my heart is yours. She leaves. Not even in the dead of night, Orpheus is so deep under that they haven’t seen each other in a week. Hermes lets her out at the last stop without comment. Always was and will be. She’s heard enough about Hades from rumors amongst the workers, whispers, the last station, the one before hell, where you can get on if you have a ticket. Hermes sings it sometimes. Descend into whatever’s there, because that’s the one station that hasn’t been picked clean. And she’s not defenseless, she knows some of Orpheus’s songs. Enough to escape. It’s my gut I can’t ignore. Eurydice is good at casual seduction, good at getting people to let her in, and all she needs is to be let into Hadestown, and then she’ll fucking take what she needs. She’ll take it and she’ll run, she’s good at running, the best.

Orpheus, we’re hungry.

Especially now that she has someone to run back to.

“Wait for me,” she whispers.

so lesbian hadestown in space, which is actually titled 'the wind, the wind, the wind', is a present to one of my friends that is at this point.... literally more than two years late? I think literally two years late, close to two and a half now. there is also literally just one scene left for me to write and then one last round of editing to do and then it will be ready for me to send to my friend with the "happy belated two years plus late I guess this is now an anniversary gift?" (E if you're reading this aaah sorry I'm ridiculous but also soon to be happy two years late present). BUT. lesbian hadestown in space happened in the following manner: -> me, listening to hadestown: okay oh gods this is great but what part would I sing. as a soprano. ......Orpheus, maybe? is Orpheus the highest part in this show? -> me, pulling up the lyric ____/ And I know how it was because ____/ He was like me ____/ A man in love with a woman okay so side-rant one of the reasons I loved hadestown so much besides I'm a sucker for literally anything with counterpoint singing or harmonies and also really good lighting in musicals, is because!! hadestown is a masterpiece!!!! that is directly about climate change!! and unionization!!! with the really strong thesis of "the only way we can fight climate change effectively is via unionization!" (and all sorts of fun sub-themes about art mattering but how much does art alone matter without collective action to back it up) and just, like. absolute top-notch did not have to go as hard as it did but damn does it go hard, if you haven't listened to Hadestown defs do, much like Hamilton and gods can't believe I'm bringing up Hamilton but I'm doing it for the sole reason of saying, literally everything said on the stage is in the cast album, it's a fully sung show, so at least you can get the full storyline via the cast album on youtube

BUT ANYWAYS the thought of 'what would happen if you re-cast Orpheus as a woman' led me to the realization of 'really, not too much, until you got to the lyrics 'And I know how it was because / He was like me / A man in love with a woman' that you'd want to change it a bit, I never quite settled on what I was happiest with, maybe 'Someone in love with a woman', but then suddenly you have added to the massive unionization theme and climate change theme in the most emotionally raw and evocative moment of the show, when Orpheus is trying to reach Hades and remind him of his humanity through the shared experience of just. simple, unadorned love. what if that was a lesbian not knowing whether or not she would be acknowledged or rejected in trembling voice trying to offer 'look at my love, when you strip it down to its core, it's not that different from yours.' -> me: gives that above speech to E -> E: you need to write this fic -> me: ........okay but come on that's not enough to write a fic around, like, that one simple change. I'd need to make at least one other significant change for it to work as enough to write a fic around esp given that my main fic style is 'just retell the canon but, like, with this particular shift' and I'd want more than just the shift to be a single genderbend. -> me: like putting it in space -> me: like there are so many fun sci-fi things you can do with it. Hadestown you can't go back from it, because it's the station on a stable interior orbit of a (Kerr) black hole's event horizon, you know actually you can keep the whole 'mining town' bit given that the majority of heavy elements in the universe are forged either in neutron star mergers or the accretion disks of black holes, -> me: [20 minutes later] and so yeah that's the r-process and why it's not enough to account for all the heavy elements in the universe and while neutron star mergers are a candidate this is three years ago so LIGO hasn't observed them yet and the other explanation is black hole accretion disks. and THAT'S why Hadestown is still a mining town. also event horizon being the 'once you go you can't come back' bit is really clever and I'm in love with my own cleverness here. -> me: also if you do some sort of fun post-post-apocalypse setting where the majority of the people have lost understanding of technology you could make Orpheus and her song literally be that she's trained in the lost art of hacking and coding -> me: and you can make Eurydice a grifter. that feels like the Vibe. Eurydice cool space grifter. -> E: I have patiently listed to you infodump about black holes because I am a genuinely a great and deeply appreciated friend. also I'm in love with sci-fi grifter Eurydice, you now need to write this fic -> me: given how much I'm in love with black holes I think I'm writing this fic -> me: but you're right grifter Eurydice is great, I will extra special write it as a present for you

and now for the better part of three years I've been writing this fic, anyways, fingers crossed really soon like in the next few weeks really soon lesbian hadestown in space is going to happen, I've been saying that for nearly three years but It Will Happen Eventually
