I kinda love how the moment Leo got his dual wield katana back, he adapted so much more naturally to his teleportation abilities.
Not to say he didn’t come around with the odachi, but it was pretty clear that he struggled hard with the mystic properties of it, and I think that it’s partially because while the odachi itself is a portaling tool that seemingly most anyone can use, Leo’s innate mystic abilities call for something to work with him, not for him.
So it makes perfect sense why his katana, made from himself and more in line with how he naturally fights, finally allow him to seamlessly grasp his space warping abilities to the extent he can.
If you can’t read what Akechi’s secondary inner-dialogue says cause I obscured it too much behind his regular dialogue, here’s a transcription in panel order:
Hello, you fucking-
Ah- Hello, Akira!
Fuck off, why should I tell you-
Just a soda- there’s a new flavor.
I don’t want your shitty gift.
Oh- haha! You’re so sweet.
I hope I choke.
They’re lovely, thank you.
Like hell.
Likewise.
There’s no way it’s just a coincidence.
Still though, it’s a funny coincidence.
i just have to say i am OBSESSED with your art, its literally what made me choose war as the main theme for my art homework WOOPS anyway would you ever share timelapses of your drawings :0
ANON! that is so exciting wow i’m really truly honored that you’ve enjoyed my work so much! i hope you’ll post some of it when/if you can, i would really love to see what you make… also i hope u have fun drawing like five million bags and straps and pockets and helmets and whatnot. i am putting my hands on your shoulders and looking deeply into your eyes and wishing you luck
okay and as for timelapses i don’t really have any of those bc i suffer from chronic “make five illustrations on a huge canvas with 50000 layers” disease and so every video i have is either 45 minutes long or compressed down so far that you can’t even see what im doing… also i flip between layers so much i genuinely think its a seizure warning bc stuff flashes so much. my process is very messy lol. im sorry i wish i had something to give u so here is a sketchy pic of my oc getting ready to snipe someone
stories about stories that left a surprisingly large impact crater in my brain
anyway some more (frankly far too extensive) thoughts under the cut for an au i dont forsee myself drawing for again (cw: mention of suicidal thoughts and lots of talk about death)
for anyone reading this who hasn't watched asteroid city: it's a movie documenting the making of an in universe fictional play called asteroid city written by conrad earp (kdj) directed by schubert green (hsy) lead actor jones hall (yjh) who plays augie, very emotionally repressed guy whose wife (lsh, kinda) just died and is trying to figure out how to tell his children about it. anyway jones shows up at conrad's house for auditions and the two fall in love, then conrad dies from a car crash 6 months into the shows run and jones is left to play a character mourning the death of his wife while irl mourning the death of his lover and it drives him up a wall trying to figure out if he's doing conrad "right" (hence 'i still don't understand the play')
anyway for this au like everything that happens in the movie also happens i think but the character motivations are a little bit different like in the movie conrad earp writes the play before he ever meets jones hall so we don't really know why it's Like That but i think in the au kdj is either like. having suicidal thoughts or just fully believed he wasn't gonna live for very long in the like cptsd symptom kinda way lmao. so like it's not really that he wrote the play to help yjh process his own death (i think if that were the case the message of the play would be way different lmfao) but it's more like he just had death and grief on the brain and was also writing stuff. and like the answer he arrived at was that he didn't actually arrive at anything in the end. sometimes tragedy just happens and there's no meaning to it you just kinda have to live with that. like i know this is not how the process of play production works but if there's one change to the original movie plot in this au i want to make it's that kdj still dies by car accident but before the script is 100% finished or after he's been talking about rewriting the ending or something because i think he also doesn't figure out an answer he's satisfied with in the end about like death and grief and mourning. like you just know that in kdj's ideal world his loved ones wouldn't mourn him at all if he dies because he doesn't want them to be sad because of him and maybe he still hasn't fully 100% internalised that he has people who would care if he dies. anyway i think yjh kinda understands like subliminally that kdj was trying to Say Something with the play he just isn't sure what because he's looking for An Answer like some kind of meaning to everything that's happened but the point is there isn't one and if there is kdj hasn't found it either lmao. and like i think hsy understood immediately like as soon as she heard the news of his death she's figured out what kdjs thought process behind the play was and like she's absolutely not holding it together as well as she appears but she also sees yjh driving himself insane every night trying to find The Meaning or whatever and like whether or not she even agrees with kdj aside this is the only way she can think of to help him get out of that hole bc she can't exactly tell yjh like 'the point is that there is no point you just have to live with The Everything' so she's just trying her best to make him understand on his own. idk i just need someone who's watched asteroid city to see this and tell me if ive gone completely insane LMAO
Honestly, getting into the welcome home fandom was the best thing that happened to me. I met a bunch of amazing people, i cant imagine being without them <3 To all my friends, mutuals, followers, Clown, and the welcome home team, thank you for brightening up my year 💛💐
whatever og text i had in mind for this post about ko shibasaki looking like sayama in this movie is completely cancelled on account of utsumi (this character)'s first name being kaoru and i only found this out cause i was looking up her name just to be sure when making this post
like jesus christ i legally have to make this post now
I've been looking for this one au where Len basically becomes a mad scientist and turns his friends into robots one by one for a while now, and I'm beginning to realize that I just read through your blog while half asleep a few months back and mixed together my memories of your flower hivemind and composite au
this is very funny to me. i'm absolutely honored this blog's posts were enough to evil-farming-game an entire vocaloid au into your memories 😂
i can give you this doodle; it's composite au but i'm sure it'd fit very well with this theoretical mad scientist len au lololl
Your Kaiju!Newt design looks so cool. How does he end up like that?
Thank you so much!!!! And sorry for taking so long to reply :v
Newt has been locked up for months, and Jake Pentecost is becoming desperate, because they're making no progress with getting info out of Newt. Since the events of the film, the real Newt hasn't resurfaced once, and everyone is convinced that he's just an empty husk now.
When Hermann discovers that they're going to start torturing Newt as a last resort, he manages to get a final visit with him and makes a desperate last plea to Newt to do something, anything, terrified tears in his eyes.
(i tried drawing it but it looks kinda shit and i gave up halfway, oh well)
(you can't see it in these panels but Newt is still restrained)
Newt has no reaction, and Hermann gets dragged out of Newt's cell.
But unbeknownst to anyone, Newt did actually hear Hermann, and it gives then the strength try something new...
And that is all I'll say for now! Sorry for not actually answering your only question yet, but if I manage, I'd like to try and draw what happens, hope you're ok with waiting some more :]
Man, it doesn't matter what the medium or fandom is, truly the debate that ruins fandom discussions the fastest is when people try to decide which characters "deserve" what. Especially when it comes to them deciding which characters are evil, how evil they are, and how severe their punishment should be for their evil deeds.
It's really annoying/harmful on multiple levels. For one, morally speaking, the line between "evil, but can repent/compensate for their deeds" and "evil, cannot be redeemed, suffer and die forever" is harder to define than you think, and who has the authority to define it anyways?
But also, fictional stories (especially the better, more nuanced, more mature ones) are rarely ever about "deserving" and don't divide their characters neatly between the "good" and the "evil." Every time I see fans debate about "how evil" a Problematic Fave is, or if Fave 1 is better/worse than Fave 2, all I see is people ruining their own fun and stirring up bad blood between other fans. Why would you add this dichotomy of "deserving" to a FICTIONAL story and start real life beef with people over it? At that point you're getting more invested in your discourse over imagined good/evil binaries than you are invested in watching/reading/consuming the actual story itself.
Thinking about smeyer’s commitment to “perfectly happy endings”: a rant
As in happy endings that cannot come at the price of any sacrifice. Twilight is obvs the most exaggerated example of this. She can’t have Jacob be sad about Bella, so she tosses him a newborn to become completely devoted to. She can’t have Eddie and Bella worried at all about their daughter, so she makes sure we know that Renaenae is going to stop aging at a convenient age for Jacob to be in love with her forever. She can’t have any of the Cullens face real danger, so she cuts the Volturi confrontation off at the knees (esp in the book). She cant even put Bella through any struggle with her new life so she wraps it up in a pretty bow of super self-control and Charlie-being-super-chill-with-unknown-supernatural-forces (and we don’t get to have a conversation about any other sacrifices Bella might be making to become a vampire).
It’s so FRUSTRATING. Because, in most good literature, the struggle and sacrifice contribute to the meaning of the story. It gives us stakes. It shows us who the characters really are and what they’re willing to do.
That’s one reason the Host is actually smeyer’s best work but y’all aren’t ready for that conversation
