I mean if we talking about looks josh oconnor and if we talking about acting mike and josh are pretty fairly even but I'll give the edge to josh. I know mike hasnt been it alot of films but hes great in theatre and really knows how to command the stage( I also really liked him in that pinball movie and his very small role in bikeriders along with west side story). However josh is just a gifted performer, has natural chemistry and always brings these nauaced and layered performances, La chimera his other upcoming film hes fanatstic and speaks italian for 95 % of the film.

💝 thank you for leaving a letter; i'm so glad you like it. i was really nervous about publishing this chapter, as it's tone and pacing changed the story and there were hundreds of possible plotholes to come out of it.

regarding the POV: i usually prefer not having a tom POV, because denying insight into his thoughts makes him more mystical, more inscrutable and untouchable. you don't understand what his intentions are, what he's planning, what he has up his sleeve - and that makes the possibilities that much greater, makes him stronger, scarier - and maybe a little sexier too 👀

but i decided to include it here, because this way the reader sees the danger hermione is in - long before she understands it herself. a bit like watching a horror movie from the killer's point of view.

SPOILER FOR CHAPTER 2

also for the 2nd chap it was essential. this gave the reader as little information about hermione's memories and personality as she herself had at the time. i found it thrilling to explore her memory loss from the outside - to look at her almost childish, confused scraps of memories from a distance and give the reader the opportunity to make connections and recognize references that hermione herself (and riddle) couldn't even understand at the time. it's basically a chapter of easter eggs this way.

i also want to give the reader a sense of how hermione feels. lost and estranged. too deep an insight into her mind would have had the opposite effect.

the threat that tom represents becomes much clearer this way. how he plays her, grooms her, manipulates her, threatens her indirectly. we watch this part of the story from the perspective of an unhinged sociopath who makes his victim compliant for his purposes by any means - and a victim who is unaware of this danger.

furthermore, there are things that hermione did during the time she disappeared from our view that will become important in the next chapter. so stay tuned 🤗

OK SO RIGHT OFF THE BAT, THE MOVIE BLOWS THE FIRST ONE OUT OF THE WATER. MORE LORE, MORE CHARACTERS, MORE ACTION

The only thing I kinda disliked was that the wedding and GUN arrest scene went on too long. I turned to my mom and was like “when are we getting back to sonic” but the human characters are all very enjoyable and Rachel was hilarious and gets her time to shine

Sonic and Tails friendship was so cute! Personally, I felt Tails was a little underutilized in the film, but I loved the bond between him and Sonic, and how Sonic quickly became so protective of him!! Quickly stepping into that big brother role!

Knuckles did not disappoint, and he was so badass while also simultaneously being stupid as fuck, we love you king. Easily one of the best characters, everyone in the theater was dying laughing at him, but it never felt like the filmmakers were belittling him or making a joke of him, most of his humor comes from him not understanding earth culture and being so serious and blunt about everything.

Also side note, I found it weird that he’s literally standing 2 feet behind Robotnik and Stone at one point while Robotnik is causally mentioning within earshot how he’s gonna backstab him later to steal the emerald. And he just…. Doesn’t hear or react at all??? They’re right in front of you dude. I guess he was focused on something else lol.

LITTLE BABY KNUCKLES!!! He was adorable and it looked like he had a nice father. Ken Penders is probably throwing a bitch fit watching that scene and we all know it. THE POST CREDITS SCENE….. just…. OOF. People in the theater GASPED out loud when they said “we found a file from 50 years ago,” like we all KNEW in that moment. This movie still had its light hearted fun moments in it, but honestly if they’re gonna be covering a Sonic Adventure 2 adaptation, or the third movie is based loosely on it, then I think the third movie is gonna be a WHOLE lot darker. Cause you can’t have Shadow without Maria, and we all know what happened to her….. if sonic 2 is about found family, sonic 3 will be about ANGST

Also, I need financial compensation for Daphne having Andrew and Sam at an academic conference because I just know as soon as Daphne raised the camera, Andrew moved out of the way so that it would just be Sam in the picture and she reprimanded him saying she wanted it to be of both of them.

And Andrew only telling Tom because we all know that Daphne has many strengths, but keeping secrets is not one of them.

I am sad that we won't get to see these characters as often, but I know that I can always send you asks and maybe you'll be kind to us occasionally and drop a one-shot without warning.

Of course Nikolai was ready to play the victim, trying to ruin the small progress in their relationship thanks to the duet at the piano. I hate him with all my heart. I don't trust him at all and I'm happy that Y/N is starting to realize that there is something off about him. I am genuinely scared for her when he is around, especially when they are alone: I fear he might try to do something bad to her. I don't know why, but I have this feeling. I will be honest, I'm kinda pleased that she's giving him the cold shoulder, not only when talking, but even with the small gestures: ignoring his help to get into the carriage, not wearing the ring unless it's necessary (and telling him she forgot it), and giving him a hard time about Nettie. Normally, I'm not a fan of such behaviour, and yes, he is getting more likeable (and has obviously been developing feelings for her since their confrontation), but after the way he treated her, she deserves a little revenge (sorry, I'm being a little petty...).

My angst loving heart lives for the fact that there always seems to be something to interrupt them as soon as they try to open up to each other, whether it's an event, their own pride or a sudden fear of the emotions they are feeling (I see you, Thomas 👀), they always end up separating. I love this dynamic, and I can’t wait for the moment in which they will get the chance to talk to each other freely.

But I also love the snippets of fluff that are starting to appear here and there. The moment with Mary was simply adorable with Tom blushing as he looked at them. Aaaand are we really sure he was completely lying when he was talking to the couple?

And THAT ending??? That was one hell of a plot twist (who might behind that? I have my theories...) and I bet Tom was furious not only because of the attack, but also because he saw how terrified Y/N was. He went into full protecc mode and I cannot be convinced otherwise.

The five of you were sat in the drawing room, parchment scattered across the table as you’d started going over more and more details for the wedding. You could see the clear blue sky through the window, the perfect springtime sun spreading all throughout the Buckingham Palace gardens.

“White? Why would you want a white wedding gown?” Nicola repeated, lips drawn into a fine line.

“Do you think it would look bad?” You asked, suddenly.

“No—no, it’s just—”

The Queen seemed to be at a loss, trying to find the least offensive words. You stared, waiting for her response as to why she was so adamant you followed through with her exact plans. For God’s sake, you’d already been subjected to marrying the Prince. Now, it seemed she was trying to make every decision possible.

“Miss, I think Her Majesty means to say that the idea of a white wedding dress is just a bit eccentric,” Eloise chimed in.

You looked over to her, the brown undertones of her skin making the shade of green in her dress stand out. Her expression was soft, a bit pitiful even. Like she could see that this process was becoming exhausting.

“Odd,” said Nicola. “I was just thinking that a white dress would be a bit odd.”

“Well then, it’s a good thing that this is my wedding, and that I will be the one to wear the dress, isn’t it?”

The table went silent for a moment, you immediately felt a twinge of regret. There were lines that had been drawn long before you’d come to England, lines that dated back much further than you could even imagine. One of which was probably to refrain from disrespecting the Queen.

“My apologies, Y/N,” she said a bit hesitantly. “I realize that I have been a bit overbearing in these past weeks. You’re completely right, this is your wedding, not mine.”

“Ma’am, I did not mean to come off so harshly,” you turned towards her apologetically.

She gave you a warm smile, making you let of a breath of relief. If there was anything you had not intended to do, it was get on the nerves of your future mother-in-law. You watched as she collected all of the documents into a pile.

“You will have a beautiful wedding, Y/N, and you will wear an equally as beautiful white dress.”

Her sweet words made you smile, a tug on your heartstrings, missing your own mother back in France. In fleeting moments, you could still hear her soft whispers in the dead of night. When you wept silently into you pillow during the first week being in the palace, you had found solace in imagining that she was still there brushing your hair. While Nicola was not your mother, she was the closest thing you had at the moment, and this was enough.

“At two o’clock, there’ll be an open carriage ride through Hyde park for you and Thomas to the address the people,” the Queen said to you. “Since parliament is happy with the matrimony, so is everyone else. They adore you, both of you that is—it’s as if you are both madly in love with each other, which gives people something to route for.”

Madly in love, you thought.

You had left the drawing room with Andrea, Charlotte, and Eloise in hopes of finding a bit of time to spend outside before you’d have to spend the reminder of the afternoon waving at the English people along the streets of London.

An easel sat in front of you, overlooking an abundance of trees along the grounds. You had hardly even started to paint, pressing down the smock you’d tied around yourself.

“Y/N!” You heard from behind you, turning and being met with a severely beaten-looking Nikolai.

His nose was black and blue, a single horizontal slit through it. Under his eyes had been deeply bruised as well. You felt a swelling sympathy for him, wondering if he was in tremendous pain. It had only been a few days, and from what you learned, they had been forced to set his nose back into place.

“Nikolai, I’d assumed you’d have gone back to Denmark by now,” you greeted.

“In a rush to get rid of me, yeah?” He smirked, running his fingers through his hair.

“Not at all, but with everything the other night—and then I hadn’t seen you at mealtimes. Well, I just figured you’d have wished to get as far away from here as possible.”

Nikolai smiled a bit deviantly, it was hard not to noticed that even with a battered nose, he was still quite handsome. Though, ever since that night when you’d watched him lean into Tom and spew whatever menacing words, something about him felt off. It was like he had become something else for a moment, less of that sweet boy who’d been your first dance, and more malice.

“How could I leave without saying goodbye to you, Princess?” He asked charmingly, he stepped a bit closer, but seemed to have taken an understanding when you shifted a bit uncomfortably.

“Could I ask you a question?” You asked him, turning back to the landscape portrait you had begun.

“Anything.”

“Why did you and Prince Tom get into it like that? It’s really not any of my business, but I’m curious.”

He stood there silent for a moment, and for a second, you thought you could see him searching for the answer. He averted his eyes, hands in his trousers uncomfortably.

“You, actually,” he stifled a laugh.

“Me? What about me was so important that he had to split your nose like that?” You looked up at him, shielding your eyes from the bright sun.

“Well—he had been speaking of you in quite an ill-nature, I was only defending your honor, Princess,” he answered a bit unsure.

You felt a bit sick by this, all of the admiration that you had begun to feel for Tom since that night going out the window. Your stomach turned, chastising yourself for being such a fool. He would never see you as anything more than a burden, Nikolai had only assured this.

“What was he saying?” You asked, palms resting against the wood of the easel.

“I wouldn’t say that it’s very important, I just want you to know that I’m on your side. Thomas is very headstrong and difficult, you and I both know that much.”

“We’d had a row just that night before, but then I thought we might’ve gotten somewhere. I don’t know, like he might’ve cared. Then again, with that woman, his mistress—”

“Mistress?” It came out as more of a question at first. “I mean—yes, I think it might’ve had something to do with a mistress, and honestly, Y/N, I wouldn’t be surprised if any of the advances he made on you were solely out of pity.”

Those words stung almost as badly as when you had first come to England and he had told you that he would never willingly marry you. It was as if you had sent your hand into a thorn bush, basking in the sting of blood that trickled from each abrasion.

“Have I said something?” His voice was low, his hand coming up to rest on your forearm.

“I’m only a bit winded, that’s all,” you responded. “Thank you for telling me.”

The diamond on your finger suddenly began to feel very heavy, the sudden urge to throw it into the trees coming over you. Though, you remembered that you were wearing one of the most expensive pieces of jewelry in the country, not only owned by a family dating back centuries upon centuries of aristocracy, but that this ring would surpass you in generations to come.

Nikolai had still not moved his hand, and you had not possessed the energy to. His grip was firm, his head bent towards you. There was nothing proper about this interaction, and Charlotte, Eloise, and Andrea had retreated back into the palace.

“I hear the Queen is planning another ball?” He almost whispered, running the pad of his finger over your exposed skin.

“Yes—I do believe she is,” you responded. “I should be going, I’m due to meet Prince Thomas for a carriage ride through Hyde Park.”

“So soon?” He asked.

You shrugged off his hold, ignoring the feeling of uneasiness you felt. The walk back into Buckingham Palace was somber, like another kick in the gut. You’d thought you had become accustomed to this feeling of disappointment by now, but leave it to Prince Tom to just make it so much worse.

“I’ll be just in front of you both,” Queen Nicola said, motioning towards the open carriage in front of your own.

“Where’s father?” Tom asked, he was dressed formally, his hair slicked back.

“He’s not feeling well,” she said point blankly.

There was a silence, Tom had stiffened for a moment, but soon turned away and towards the carriage where you’d both sit. It wasn’t very breezy, but the bonnet loosely tied at your head was helping keep your hair down.

He had not said anything to you yet, only waiting for you at the door of the carriage. When you approached, he held out a hand for you, surprised when you stepped up on your own. You sat comfortably, sliding as far away from Tom as you possibly could.

He sat down beside you, hair blowing back a bit when a sudden gust of wind would come. The driver had not yet signaled for the horses to start, so you both only sat in silence. Tom’s eyes scanning over you, landing on your left hand.

“Where’s your engagement ring?” He asked, suddenly.

“Oh—I must’ve forgotten it,” you shrugged.

“Forgotten it? Why was it off in the first place?”

“Don’t know.”

There was a jerk of the carriage and you were moving. The breeze felt nice on your feverish skin, a bit hot from Tom’s proximity. He looked upset, like you had broken some unspoken rule by not wearing the ring.

“Apologies, I’m sure Nettie Bennett is a great deal more compliant that I.” His head snapped towards you, sighing as he rubbed at the bridge of his nose with his thumb and index finger.

“Seriously?” He asked. “If you’d have given me the chance to speak—”

He was cut off by the sudden burst of cheers from the crowd at the sides of the pathway. Men, women, and children all gathering to wave at the Prince and Princess. They ranged from young and old, all trying to get a glimpse.

You raised you hand to wave, smiling as if you were as the Queen put it ‘madly in love.’ Tom did the same, holding up a hand to greet the growing crowds of people. The Crown allows no time for sensitivity. This is what your governess had said to you a week before you’d come to England.

Most eighteen year old girls did not have a governess, however, she had become a caretaker for Louis when he was born. Though, you’d always have a soft spot for her. She was tough, but at the time, you were also to be Queen.

It was quiet between the both of you, Tom smiled at the children lining the streets. He kept his eyes fixed on you every time there was a moment to spare, unable to get much of a word in. You felt your cheeks ache from smiling so much, your arm tired from waving at everyone.

“Stop the carriage,” you shouted to the driver.

“What’re you doing?” Tom asked, “We’re only supposed to be going on a drive.”

“Yes, well, I’m sick of driving. I don’t think it would hurt you to take a five minute walk,” you snapped back.

The carriage came to a halting stop, the Queen turned a moment later and looked a bit shocked to see you being helped down onto the ground. She, however, couldn’t do much reprimanding in the middle of the park.

Tom stepped out next to you, cupping the back of your elbow with his hand. He looked down and noticed the shiny engagement ring had been slipped over your slim, gloved ring finger. He stopped for a moment, but continued to walk just as you looked over to him.

“Your Royal Highnesses,” greeted a woman to your right, she gave an unsure and clearly unpracticed curtsy.

At her side was a little girl, her hair in a mess of brown curls. She was only but four or five years old, having no clue that she was stood before royals. The little girl wobbled over to you before the mother could have a reaction, though you did what was probably the most unlikely of things.

Tom watched as you scooped up the little girl, placing her on your hip as if you had done it a thousand times. You pushed back her hair a bit, watching her giggle as she played with the strings of your bonnet.

“Your Royal Highness, I am so sorry—”

“No need,” you smiled at her. “What is her name?” You asked.

“Mary, her name is Mary.”

The little girl buried her head into the arch of your neck. Tom felt a bit of warmth in his chest, watching you playfully tickle the little girl. A small smile spread across his face, his cheeks tinted pink. Mary brought her small hand to your ring, and then another to the side of your face.

“Pretty,” she said simply. It came out a bit gargled, but sweet nonetheless.

“You’re very pretty as well, Mary,” you whispered to her. “I have to give you back now.”

Tom watched you hand her back to her mother, cupping the side of her face and giving a small goodbye first. Her mother gave another curtsy and thanked you, smiling at Tom and curtsying again.

“I know what you’re going to say, that I shouldn’t have done that, and it was improper—”

“I thought it was nice,” he only said, walking over to another young woman and her husband.

You followed after him a moment later, looking over and watching the Queen greet people as well. She probably wasn’t happy that you’d put her in this position, but there was no way you’d have lasted another day only speaking to the same dozen people. The guards hardly had any bit of sense of humor, and you’d been given no freedoms at all within the walls of Buckingham Palace.

“Congratulations, I am so thrilled for the both of Your Royal Highnesses,” the young lady said.

“Thank you so much,” Tom responded, seeming to let up a bit.

“You must be rushing the days until the wedding, we simply cannot wait.”

“I’ll say, neither can I,” he laughed, almost as if he wasn’t lying straight to this woman’s face.

After a moment longer, Tom guided you back to the carriage and began to bid everyone farewell. Queen Nicola did the same, waving as the horses began again. The ride back to the palace was almost silent, aside from a bit of conversation between Tom and the driver.

You watched the passing scenery of London, taking in the fresh air. It was not often you were able to talk to normal people, you almost envied their ability to just go out into the park and take a walk during the daytime. Sometimes, you just wanted nothing more than to be absolutely ordinary.

“I see you put your ring back on,” Tom remarked, looking up from his lap.

“I did.”

“You let me yell at you, yet you had it with you the whole time?”

You pursed your lips for a second, looking up at him and shrugging a bit. “Nothing I’m not used to by now.”

He sighed, leaning against the carriage and looking out at the passing trees. His hat was off and his previously slicked back hair a bit more disheveled. His hand came down right next to your own, the least bit of your skin touching his. There was moment you let yourself bask in this, only to pull away from him with the fleeting memory of speaking with Nikolai earlier.

“Y/N?” He murmured, looking from the outside back to you.

Before you could respond, a gun shot came almost out of nowhere. You felt Tom dip beside you, pulling your head into his lap and down further into the carriage. You let out a small shout, feeling his breath at the back of your neck. Loud shouting from the guards came soon after, then another gunshot.

“Keep your head down, don’t move,” he whispered into your ear. “Are you alright?”

You nodded feverishly, feeling yourself grabbing for his hand and clutching to it like a child would. He held you down tightly. The ringing in your ears making you choke back tears.

“Your Royal Highnesses, an arrest has been made,” a member of the Royal Guard called out.

Tom slowly rose, pulling you up beside him and looking around. The civilians around were in pure chaos, police crowding around one man. Tom sat up straight, looking over to you in utter disbelief. He saw the tears, the fear for your life, he turned to see that his mother was okay, and then back to the man.

“I want his head before nightfall.”
