#also the official merch does refer to her as rebellious

I find it interesting how a lot of the time when people refer to the argument scene at the climax of the movie, they say “mirabel finally stands up for herself”. but it’s not actually the first time she does! it’s the most crucial time and the only one that isn’t interrupted by something else happening but mirabel does stand up for herself multiple times!
for example when luisa starts losing her gift alma immediatly asks mirabel “what did you do? what did you say to her?”, to which mirabel immediately retaliates “nothing!” it’s short and brushed over but it happens!
then yet again after the disastrous dinner pepa asks “what did you do!?” and mirabel literally yells out “IM NOT DOING ANYTHING!” she isn’t timid about her response she’s blunt and she’s immediate. mirabel can and does stand up for herself in the movie it’s just overlooked!
not to mention the breakfast scene we see already she is quite defiant! but people always act like mirabel was just a timid doormat for the whole movie and never actually stands up for herself when she does!! everytime isa opened her mouth mirabel always had a retaliation! but mirabels defiant nature is a large part to why she is the one who brings about change to the family and the entire encanto!
#encanto#encanto disney#disneys encanto#mirabel madrigal#disney’s encanto#encanto analysis#yes the argument scene is hugely important but not because it’s the only time she stands up for herself#she stands up for everyone!#mirabel encanto#also the official merch does refer to her as rebellious#but yeah I always see comments saying she FINALLY stood up for herself#but ??? she always has#I’ve missed doing silly rambles like this on scenes lmao

Detailed & Adjustable Rick Sanchez Timeline
Birth - 1943~1945
1943 is given by subtracting 70 from 2013 when the show first aired. I decided to add two more years for the simplicity of this post, but you can probably place his birth as late as 1947 if you’re doing this method of going off the show’s airdate. But for this post, we are working with this range.
And if the show takes place in the future, we can up the birth to the 50s, but this might affect some people’s headcanon of him in the Vietnam War.
High School - 1957~1961 or 1959~1962
(assumed age of entering/exiting high school at 14/15-17/18 years old)
Vietnam War - 1963~1972 ***
18-29 years old
This depends entirely on your headcanon of course, including whether or not he even went to Vietnam. If he was drafted, it would have likely been in December 1969 since they drafted those born between 1944-1950. If he wasn’t drafted, he could have enlisted in 1963 straight out of high school(if he was born in ‘45~ish). I chose 1963~1972 as the years because it seems to be the most plausible. Here is more information on the US military draft in Vietnam.
All of the Vietnam information can be negated, depending on your own personal preference whether or not he went to Vietnam.
Also, at this point, I will be including all of the possible years in one gap instead of separating them depending on birth year. All ranges take the three possible birth years into account.
~~Where The Line Gets Fuzzy and Blurred~~
This image is courtesy of Zen Monkey Studios, which only sells officially licensed merch. The artist is Angela Trizzino an artist at ZMS and does not work for the Rick and Morty staff per say.
This does not negate its canon. In fact, this is what is included in the official art book:
This specific image is just a clearer reference that they used for ‘Big Trouble in Little Sanchez.’ Personally, combining the information in the two images, I headcanon the Rick with swept bangs to be late teens.
So using this information, let’s assign the five phases seen in the first image appropriate names and ages:
Tiny Rick = High School Rick (assume age is around 14, so he probably grew taller as high school went on)
‘Rebellious’ Rick = Older High School and Vietnam
Flesh Curtains Rick = 30s
Young Rick = 35~40s +
~~Back to the Timeline Itself~~
Joined the Flesh Curtains - 1965~1983 ***
Becomes really iffy because Rick would have needed technology to explore space. Judging by the fake memory in Rickshank Rickdemption, he is only shown not to have the power to use interdimensional portals. So, he could have very well travelled the galaxy before settling down.
18 year age disparity to place Flesh Curtains either before/after Beth
***Important to note: Rick does not have the swept bang in ANY of the pictures with Bird Person. It can be assumed his hair was more tame, leading up to how effing tame his hair is as ‘Simple Rick.’
***Look at the hair in the timeline photos. Could it really represent a Rick in his late 20s/early 30s? Then why does Rick in Birdperson’s photos still have stubble + the same hair in the two top pictures? He is wearing a lab coat. (Possible explanation: Rick became a scientist simultaneously to his interstellar music career.) Yet, he’s also holding a baby Morty? And he looks the same in the Flesh Curtains picture? So, he could very well have joined the Flesh Curtains later in life --say, after Beth was born.
***Then why is the hair similar to the life stages seen in both official photos? Simple explanation is his hair grew back after cutting it in his ‘Young Rick’ stage.
Married - 1961~1981
20-year discrepancy given in case he married at 18 straight out of high school. Could have been before or after joining the Flesh Curtains. Who took all of the pictures on Birdperson’s wall? Was it her?
Also, assuming he got married before Beth was born.
Beth’s Birth - 1979~1981
If you’re wondering why Young Rick is in his 30s, just know that it’s pretty much canon. Beth is 34 in the show’s present canonical universe.
70 - 34 = 36
Beth was born when Rick was 36.
Going back to the Vietnam War headcanon, Rick could have returned from the war just shy of 30, then he gets married to Diane in his early 30s
Portal Gun Technology Discovered - 1983~1988
At least 4+ years after Beth’s birth since toddler Beth’s design is originally supposed to be around four-years-old.
Most likely no later than 7 years after her birth
Going off of ‘fake’ memory in Rickshank Rickdemption
Interstellar War - 1970s(???)~???
When he met Birdperson? After the Flesh Curtains? Before? Having portal gun technology would give him an extra edge in the war. But the show seems to imply he was at war when Beth was a child and that is what probably broke his marriage.
This could replace the Vietnam headcanon for some and go in the same spot if you wish.
And depending on how you view it, he’s still at war.
Summer’s Birth - 1996~1999
Extra year added if Beth gave birth at 18 and not 17.
Morty’s Birth - 1999~2002
Reunited With Family - 2013~2016
Also taking Refuge on Earth.
Another fishy event, believe it or not. Rick would have left Beth when she was 14 if he wasn’t in her life for 20 years. But this piece of information has already been challenged by the comics and show itself. 20 years? Really? Seems a little odd.
So let’s just use these dates as when he moved back in with his daughter...supposedly.
#took me all day#i know i have more to add#but i lost some screenshots and pics i had saved#rick and morty#long post#so glad to finally make this!!! been meaning to do one
