i’m gonna get shafted for saying this on here but i’m so mad at the rwrb script for gutting the book so needlessly; of course a book-to-film adaptation can never be 1:1 but you gotta get the important stuff in there for the characters to make sense and the story to feel satisfying even if you need to shift and change things to suit a different medium

spoiler-free is pretty hard, especially considering. the, uhhh, particular turn that things take directly after 6. (like, the fact that the other characters are showing up probably counts on its own?) and I do think that if you can avoid getting spoiled, most of it is definitely better as a surprise! some of the genuinely best Twst moments are waiting for you. :D

Fun fact! In Better the Wool, the Lamb's parents don't recognize her once they're revived! This means she gets a lot of juicy gossip about their lives once she was out of the picture in absolutely insane throwaway lines.

She also has some very intense feelings about the circumstances that led to her being separated from her family.

Sorry so random and hate to asking this like you’re google search engine but what is the deal with Vale and his parents lol

big question! im not sure how much you know so i'll generally cover as many bases as i can and sort of. gather some resources that might help you form a picture.

his dad: graziano rossi. former racer (his peak was finishing third in the 250cc class the year vale was born) who had to retire after some scary injuries (crucial for maximum vale neuroses). in terms of their relationship, first go peruse this webweave from @kwisatzworld. actually i frankly think theyre a better person to answer this question wholesale but i digress. important to note that vale straight up is like yeah he was not a good father lol. ALSO notable that graziano is asked what kind of son vale is and says 'one i can brag about to friends' which. okay. graziano also will not shut the fuck UP about vale in print (he was kind of the one to break rosquez not really being close friends anymore post-assen? for some reason??) which idk if my dad was constantly talking about me to reporters i would feel weird about that. like that is not something that i would enjoy. seems a bit like they have the sort of relationship dozens of us divorced children have with our parents where we can kind of only talk to our dad about sports.

additionally, his parents had him quite young (25 for graziano and in the thick of his racing career, unsure for his mom) and you get a sense that vale thinks they should not have done that.... he doesnt super call them 'mom' or 'dad', instead using their first names, he says they have a more 'friendly' relationship than parental, and apparently his dad and him just started saying i love you to each regularly uh. recently. heres a video of him talking about it (i get the sense the divorce exacerbated these issues as well). that being said i DO also think that vale is closer with his mom in general (she lived in his house for a long time! they lived together during covid as well!) (his mom is named stefania palma and shes a civil engineer, which i think kind ties into how journalists often mention that luca and vale talk about the bike like theyre engineers. i literally dont think that is coincidence, i think they got it from their super hot and smart mom...) heres a bit about her and graziano (x):

theres also LUCA. who is obviously his half brother (he has a few other half siblings on graziano's side, but they arent famous so we dont know as much. i get the sense they arent as close just by virtue of their difference in involvement w racing but its hard to say! its clear hes close with luca, ESPECIALLY after the academy really got going and luca got a bit older.) luca is born in 1997 when vale is 18 years old and just kicking off his career, so hes kind of never known a world where vale wasnt insanely famous. luckily and ironically his father is a sports psychologist. luca's story kind of ties in with stefania's (obviously), and here's a post about how some of the stuff going on in their lives mightve effected them and of course vale. idk why this became a luca treatise but hes important okay!!!! just a family with a lot going on that informs vale's whole deal (having much younger siblings and liking to teach perhaps as a result, his marriage feelings, his REPRESSION issues, how he shows love, how he self-protects, and a lot more. idk this is hardly comprehensive but hopefully it gives a little food for thought !

a/n - just to base it off my own experiences and indulge me whose not spending christmas with my family this year this is heavily english-based!!!! and theres implied use of korean and english!!! just a warning :) hope you still enjoy!

17:55 - “okay but don’t be too long, food should be ready around 6,” your mum said as you ran up the stairs, dragging jaehyun with you by his hand.

he giggled, his feet planting on the carpet of your landing as he looked around curiously, following you to your childhood bedroom, “i can’t believe i’m here.”

“with the amount of times i’ve bothered your family it’s only fair,” you chuckled, flicking on the lights and presenting your room to your boyfriend, he smiled, sauntering in and looking around.

“you’re so cute,” he chuckled, looking from picture to poster, duvet cover to stuffed animals. he sat on the bed, smiling up at you. “i love it.”

you smiled, shutting your bedroom door and walking over to myungjae, standing in between his legs as his hands wrapped round your thighs, “good. seeing as this is your bedroom too, for the next two weeks.”

you leaned down to press a kiss to his lips as he hummed, “what’s for dinner then?”

“well, i told mum to give us the english classic,” you giggled, holding his face in your hands as he gazed up at you, “roast dinner!”

he laughed at your excitement, nodding his head sarcastically, “of course. i know what that is.”

you smiled, shaking your head in dismissal as you started playing with his hair, “don’t worry, you’ll love it.”

“y/n! jaehyun! foods ready!”

“come on,” you smiled excitedly, taking his hand, jaehyun waiting for a moment as he continued to take in your childhood bedroom before letting himself be taken down the stairs again.

“can you guys set the table?” she asked, as you rolled your eyes.

“don’t worry, jae, you just sit down,” you said, beginning to set the table.

“no! no! no!” he exclaimed suddenly, shocked at the implication of not helping, going into the kitchen where your mum was, “can i do anything to help?”

your mum sighed, “no! i think it’s all done. just need to take the food through. everyone needs drinks though, get whatever you want from the back.”

he nodded with a smile, going through and getting a drink for both himself and you. seeing your brother come into the garage too, he greeted him shyly.

“oh jaehyun, nice to meet you,” you brother smiled, shaking your boyfriend’s hand.

“nice to meet you,” he smiled, nodding.

“don’t scare him,” you said, appearing in the doorway, “myungjae coul— oh! you already got me one!”

“of course,” he smiled, following you back out to the table, “i know what you like.”

finally sat down with food and drinks, you persuade your mum to sit down as well before tucking in.

“what is this?” jaehyun asked you, switching languages so your family wouldn’t understand.

you laughed, “shall i put everything on your plate for you? so you get the proper amounts?”

he faltered for a moment, “or just your taste?”

you rolled your eyes, “well yes, but mine’s the best. okay, seriously though, have as many roast potatoes as you can.”

jaehyun laughed as you started piling food on his plate. “enjoy myungjae,” switching languages back as you teased him with a laugh.

“what’s myungjae?” your mum asked, “i thought your name was jaehyun?”

you groaned, apologising for your mums behaviour until jaehyun shook his head with a real smile, answering earnestly.

“don’t worry! my surname’s myung. so people often call me myungjae, like putting the two together,” he smiled, nodding as your mum and brother listened.

“myung?” your brother repeated, “myung y/n?”

jaehyun choked on his drink, as you made a loud noise to try and cover up your brother’s words.

“mum! what’s the plan for christmas?!” you exclaimed, your mum laughing as she replied.

“well christmas eve we have that party at your uncles, christmas day everyone’s coming here,” she sighed, “but before then i still need to get a lot of presents. and i thought we could go to that light show nearby as a nice outing.”

your brother still had a goofy smirk on his face as he nodded, “sounds nice, mum!”

“yeah sounds great,” you nodded, turning to jaehyun, “you get to meet my entire family over two days.”

but he was too busy eating the roast dinner you’d piled on his plate, looking at you in shock.

“this is amazing?” he said.

“why are you so confused!” you laughed, eating your own, “of course it’s good! it’s a homemade roast dinner!”

he looked up at your mum, “thank you, this is amazing.”

“well it’s a bit of a trial run of christmas day so i’m glad you like it!”

“we’re having this again?!” he groaned in pleasure.

you laughed, hitting his shoulder as he began to laugh at himself, “yeah, baby. you’re here for two weeks don’t forget. satisfied?”

jaehyun looked up at you with a dumbfounded nod, “more than satisifed.”

“hmm,” you sighed, “just wait until you meet the rest of the family.”
