A Bunch of Random Remus Sanders Headcanons
I wanna yap about Remus Sanders and the headcanons I have about them, so I'm remaking my Remus Sanders headcanon post from last year. Enjoy :)
Trigger warning for mentions of self harm, murder, smut, crime,
Headcanons under cut
Autistic nonbinary gay satanist who uses they/them pronouns and has a wide array of mental health problems that they honestly don't really care enough about to put a label on
Likes taking showers just because it's one of the only socially acceptable times to be naked
Will not hesitate to kill bigots
Favorite musical is Twisted from Team Starkid
Likes to self harm for the thrill of it. Their one arm is completely fucked up because of it
Pole dances for sport. Will sometimes fall asleep hanging upside down on their pole sometimes, and no one knows how they accomplish it
Has octopus tentacles that they can summon at will, and likes using them as a hammock
Grows their hair out really long and likes to style it in a bunch of different ways, also likes having their hair played with
Cannot keep a pair of headphones in mint condition for more than a week, at the end of the week their headphones are either so destroyed they don't even resemble headphones anymore or they're completely covered in stickers and marker
Has a sketchbook that they sketch a bunch of monster designs in, and loves to show them off
Loves DDR and JustDance and is very competitive when it comes to those games
After having their eye stabbed in WTIT, they messed with it so much because of the sensory issues with their allergies that they fucked up their eye so much it now randomly falls out
Favorite music artists include Jack Stauber, ICP, and Junie & TheHutFriends
Special interest in the ocean (specifically all the fucked up creatures that live in it) and true crime
A really big cat person and will adopt many different types of cats including lions, tigers, jaguars, cheetahs, house cats, etc.
Has a weapon called a jackhandle which is a handle that can turn into any weapon at will
Their room is decorated to a horror theme, and their bed is a repurposed coffin with the lid decorated with shelves of their figures, trinkets, and other stuff
Bites stuff when stimming and loves chew fidgets
Also loves textured fidgets and will get distracted for hours on end if they find a texture they really like
Loves haunted houses and has been tempted to become a scare actor a few times before
Whenever Remus is having one of their manic episodes/breaks, Janus is the only one who can calm them down
Will eat literally anything, Janus has had to save them from choking on something multiple times
Loves physical affection
Really high sensitivity to light and volume
Loves weighted things and uses them to calm down when overstimulated
Weird with eye contact, sometimes can not and will not maintain eye contact no matter what, other times will stare into your soul
Has a green jacket/vest that they like to wear and has a collection of a bunch of pins and buttons that they like to rotate around
Has a pair of goggles that Janus gifted to them that has spikes around the eyes that are filled with real venom that can kill someone if pricked by them
Has a bunch of boots that they've DIYed designs onto, their favorite is a pair of black boots with flames on them
Missing their two front top teeth from battling. Has dentures to act as replacements for the two teeth but barely ever wears them because they find them annoying
Regularly steals hair ties from Roman and studded bracelets from Virgil, would steal from Patton and Logan but Patton doesn't really have any accessories that are interesting to Remus and Remus can never successfully steal from Logan
Whenever they get overstimulated, they have a fight or flight response where they'll try to be louder than the thing that's overstimulating them or they'll just completely shut down
Love language is gift giving, and will gift give like a cat
Has a mustache shaped bag that they use to carry around fidgets and extra pairs of headphones when they go outside, they usually make Janus carry it though
Remus and Logan love to infodump to each other about their special interests and will spend multiple hours together just going on tangents about their special interests
Their favorite fidget is a plush octopus made out of a bunch of different textured fabrics that Patton made for them
Has a giant collection of stuff related to their special interests
Janus and Remus regularly make trips to the aquarium together and will walk around as Remus infodumps to Janus about the different sea creatures and stuff
Roman and Remus play Animal Crossing together and both have fully themed islands that took hundreds of hours to put together (Remus's island is horror themed, Roman's is fantasy themed)
Loves hanging out in dark spaces, and has a giant pillow fort in the one corner of their room
Extremely clingy when tired, will always be clung to someone until they fall asleep
Five Nights at Freddy's fan
Will sleep scream at the top of their lungs for absolutely no reason at all during random intervals at night, is the reason why everyone barely gets any sleep
Actually has a pretty decent sleep schedule despite their habit of pulling all nighters sometimes to create stuff and/or research their special interests
Fell into the conspiracy theory trap with Virgil, and the two enjoy watching conspiracy videos together. Remus doesn't really take the theories too seriously but still finds them interesting
Has set up a bunch of Rube Goldberg machines as decoration around his room that go off at random times and do a bunch of things like fling knives around, set off little fires, and more
Can detach their limbs from their body at will
Reads smut and does not take it seriously at all, they find it comedic
A relentless flirt with everyone they meet, but the moment some of that energy is fired back, they'll just become a blushing mess on the floor
Loves to mimic Janus's speech patterns and hold out their S's like a snake, Janus finds it kind of annoying but endearing

Please I'm so so curious to hear your thoughts on 10/14
Ok so my thoughts on 10 are less than 14 so let’s start with him lol. I have not watched 10, so my hatred of him is more hatred by proxy of how the fandom treats him and proxy of 14, but I still do have a few specific thoughts and this will be long and definitely rambly
A) when talking about him I usually refer to him as Fandom’s Favorite White Boy or Pathetic Wet Cat/Twink mostly because it’s funny but for now I’ll use 10. The most I know about 10 is that he is angsty and in love with rose and besties with Donna… also that he’s pathetic but that’s more vibes
So- my hate of 10 is less tangible than 14 but i still have a few points, the main one being the way i see ppl talk about how he treated Martha and how obsessed with rose he was. I don’t think it’s ever compelling to have someone’s main personality trait be loving someone a whole lot which also honestly is my problem with rose (don’t hate her but don’t care about her)
From what I have seen and heard of 10 it’s rather… boring, honestly? Like it’s mostly clips out of context but for 13 and 15 I saw clips out of context and was like “ok wth is happening? /pos” with 10 it’s more like “wtf?” Also pretty sure his episodes were some of the ones I saw when my parents had the show on that played a part in me swearing the show off so
Ok onto the more tangible hatred of 14. A lot of this, admittedly, is more about the writing and showrunner decisions than 14 but those things by proxy makes me hate him
So- I have a lot of feelings on him quite literally starting from his first appearance in power of the doctor. I am SO PETTY that he doesn’t wear 13’s silly little outfit. Like I have gone on full rants about that fact to my friends and family
I’ve seen something claim that rtd didn’t want 14 to wear her outfit because people might be transphobic and derogatory towards him (even tho Dhawan!master wore it, and it’s pretty gender neutral) but then did nothing about the shit ppl said about ruby’s actor or about ppl who would be a bitch about rose the second being nonbinary(also i remember seeing a post about their deadname being mentioned in an episode? Not totally sure that’s true tho)
The 60th anniversary specials themselves don’t really celebrate Dr who as a whole as much as 10’s run with a few old villains but that’s not really my main issue with that. My main issue with the specials is that the Doctor gets their happy ending. With Donna. And her family. When fucking 3-4 episodes prior, their happy ending would’ve been yaz. It would’ve been staying with yaz. But nope! Donna! Because that’s what 10 would’ve wanted.
And I don’t want 14 to be with yaz, btw, I mean I want them to meet and for yaz to hit him, but I don’t want them to be a thing or like be together because I believe yaz is a lesbian but that’s not the point of this so moving on
I also have very much big issues with the scene where 15 and 14 are (presumably, I don’t think I’ve ever seen the full scene) talking about women they love and mention who I assume to be River and rose but not yaz, who again, they wanted to spend forever with 3-4 episodes prior. It makes the doctor seem like a douchebag even if it’s a writing issue and not a character issue
Also 14 being David tenant overshadows 13’s departure and 15’s arrival and since he is most likely going to show up at least a little bit in s14 he’ll overshadow 15 in his own series. It’s icky at the very least.
There’s something inherently bad about having the fandoms Favorite White Boy be with a contentious casting decision (because I have no faith in the Dr who fandom not to be bigoted) and even if no one has an issue with 15 being black and maybe gay (is he gay? He gives gay vibes) it’s still setting him up for failure by pairing him with 14
Also bigeneration is so fucking dumb and I hate it
Also also stop giving the Dr 19 year old companions it’s getting kinda weird now

Shout out to my mom for not listening to that episode of Skyjacks even though I sent it to her a month ago (and also for recognizing Tyler for voicing Bootstrap even though that was years ago)
hey @campaignskyjacks and everyone else here:
I'm bringing my mom to the GenCon live show and she hasn't listened to anything except Couriers Call. What's the best post-Nathan's-intro episode to start her in on the main feed?
#it wasn't even like 'oh was that the actor you told me about when we were listening to that episode' it was#'i recognize his voice. did he play someone on Courier's Call? was it Bootstrap? it was Bootstrap thats right'#and then i got to tell her Bootstrap's backstory all over again#also shout out to James again for being so nice to my mom /weeps#also also shout out to James again for hearing my mom using gendering language for me and not following suit#she has my express permission to do so but i cringe whenever she does in front of strangers who i'd like to see me as nonbinary#you better believe I noticed your particularly neutral wordchoice and I was glowing#i actually told my mom about it when we were eating our late dinner after the show and it was lovely to be able to#point out the exact words used as an example of neutral language. she's learning!#LASTLY shout out to me for completely forgetting to ask Jef about how he named Vercingetorix!#he was literally sitting right in front of us! I was distracted by how much I wanted to ask him about his shirt!#and then I didn't even remember to ask THAT because I was distracted by how engaging Nathan and Tyler were#I was writing little notes to the aforementioned mom to tell her who Calivar and Spit and Tony Vornskr were#but she didn't need it she was DAZZLED. these are quite possibly my two favorite actual play actors. and getting to see them work? amazing#anyway wow this tag ramble went on for way too long. i should have just made this the post#skyjacks

okay so I can not like things casually (I mean clearly or I wouldn't be on Tumblr duh) but I have a habit of getting tattoos for the things I like. I do hair and my kit that I carry around all my stuff in has been covered in various ofmd stickers since the first season came out. and then I got distracted by other things and my obsession kinda faded HOWEVER it is now back with a raging fire. anyways like I said I tend to get tattoos for the things im obsessed with (I have multiple book, anime, show, etc. tattoos) but I also tend to forget about a lot of my tattoos because I kinda have a bunch and also hate looking at myself. long story short I got an ofmd tattoo over a year ago and I thought maybe id share them here because no one irl appreciates it and even though I've had it for over a year its still one of my favorites because this show means so damn much to me like ill probably make a more eloquent post eventually but there's just so much about this show that means so much. like the fact that it's literally a fanfic come to life, the fact that there's a nonbinary character played by a nonbinary actor, the fact that it shows first real love at an older age, that its just such a pure love and that the really do complete each other and yet their trauma keeps them hurting each other but that trauma is one f the reasons they are perfect together, the complete lack of historical accuracy, the fact that I cry all the way through every episode but it's a mix of happy and sad tears, etc. idk I just really love this show

Rules: list 10 of your comfort shows and then tag 10 people
Tagged by @bengiyo . I actually don't rewatch shows very often, or at least not the same ones every time, but here's some shows I've watched a lot of in no particular order.
Alien Biospheres. This is a YouTube series but I've watched it a lot. If you watched James Cameron's Avatar and don't care about the plot but would watch a documentary on how they designed the creatures + plants this is the webseries for you. If you like spec bio then I would also recommend Serina.
Cherry Magic. I write songs for fun and my life is too boring to be great inspiration, so most of them reference scenarios in shows I'm watching that I find funny or just stick with me for some reason. Kurosawa's personality inspired one of my best ones.
Coffee Prince. This got me into kdrama + so much of it still holds up. Like, remember how homophobic the 2000s were? That's a feat.
The King's Affection. This is like the best girl disguises as a guy kdrama since Coffee Prince, and I watched a lot of them before I figure out I was nonbinary. I was glued to my seat. My writing project @the-prince-is-not-a-woman was partially inspired by me watching this so many times.
Mortel. It's like this show was made for me. Vodun, found family, polyamorus subtext, mystery, despising someone but having noone else to turn to, trauma, comedy, banger music. It was made by Netflix though, so of course it was cancelled on a cliffhanger.
Power Rangers 2017. This film is objectively goofy but I love it so much. Billy was the first explicitly autistic character I think I saw ever, and he set my expectations for canonically autistic characters high.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Apart from being a good show, Attorney Woo is the only other character on my list of canonically autistic characters that I like, which is funny because both attorney Woo and Billy were played by allistic actors.
The Path. I enjoyed seasons 1 & 2 but I've rewatched season 3 many times for my baby Caleb. I talked about a pastor's son and he's like the perfect example. If the show hadn't tragically been cancelled I would have loved to see what they did with his character, because after leaving his family for his boyfriend and by extension his boyfriend's daddy's apocalypse adjacent cult (which is a positive if you can believe it) socially speaking he was essentially in the same position he started off in, minus worrying about homophobia. He could have blossomed or spiralled, who knows. That's quality side character creation. This show also inspired the list "cheating on your girlfriend with your wife" which has to be the best of my lists of niche tropes.
Triage: time travel and time loop stories can so easily swerve into being terrible when there isn't enough thought put into the time travel mechanic but when they're good they're really good.
Shelter 2007: so many of the queer films I watched as a teenager were depressing, I could have given up on ql entirely if I didn't watch this heartwarming film.
Honourable mentions:
Be My Favourite. It finished airing literally 2 months ago so it really hasn't had time to gain the status of old reliable but yeah. I've watched episode 1 probably 10 times at this point, because I would pore over the whole show waiting for the next episode. I was writing essays.
Nowhere Boys: I love forced proximity + conspirationality. It's one of the reasons I love Mortel. It's a quality teen drama.
Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Chat Noir, aka Miraculous Ladybug. This show is my Riverdale. It's ridiculous and I don't recommend it and I can't watch the english dub because I'd cringe too much so I watch it in French, but I started watching when I was like 15 so I'm locked in forever. It keeps dragging me back.
Going to try my hand at actually tagging people so,,,

I really feel like Taash as a character potentially did more harm than good.
This isn't a dig at the writers themselves (especially Trick Weekes, because we know they are an objectively talented writer who knows the franchise). I blame any and all flaws on EA and Bioware and the undoubtedly short time frame given to rework and finish the game after laying people off.
It is baffling to me how... For example, the creators (I don't remember if it was Gaider or Weekes or someone else) said they didn't want to make Solas bi in order to avoid an evil bisexual trope. Personally I had never even heard of that trope, but it still goes to show the level of care and thoughtfulness going into the representation in these games. Mistakes undoubtedly were still made (i.e the incredibly problematic trans-panic sex workers in Origins) but they were learned from and even apologized for later (i.e with Krem and Maevaris)
So the switch to then making their first nonbinary character be basically an angry teen who is stubborn and confused and argumentative about their identity is like... just insane. That isn't to say people like that don't exist - I know people like that irl, hell I definitely used to be like that - but it's an incredibly harmful stereotype that is weaponized against trans people all the time! Having that be the first major representation given to nonbinary people in a triple A game is actively confirming hateful biases and beliefs against us. It could not have been a worse decision.
I personally don't think the diaspora storyline should have gone to Taash, either. I know it also feels very real to a lot of people and I respect that that story should exist in the game, just writing wise, it should not have gone to Taash. Mostly because they had to actively change the existing lore to make it work. This really offended me, personally, because the Qun specifically is one of my favorite topics to theorize and learn about. It is a horrible writing move. When you introduce a character who's part of one of the lesser known about factions in the world, like the Qunari, they should add to the known lore - Sten and Iron Bull both did this fantastically. Taash's backstory fumbles and confuses the Qunari lore at best, and completely changes it to fit their character at worst.
There are things I like about Taash. They're funny, I like the blunt and deadpan comments because they're a nice change of pace from the rest of the cast. Their visual design is gorgeous and I think their voice actor did an amazing job with what they were given to work with. I also love the concept of a nonbinary Tal-Vashoth and I think, at it's core, it could play with the themes of the Qun really nicely.
So here is my revamped version of Taash. They were born and raised as a woman under the Qun. As an adult, maybe they were more adept at combat and were re-assigned male (aqun-athlok), but didn't feel right in the role of a male warrior either. They left the Qun like so many others because they could not accept their assigned roles - in this specific case, because of their gender. Neither the male or female roles felt right to them. (And named themselves Ataashi, Taash for short, after what the Qunari call the dragons - literally translating to "glorious one")
Then, where does the diaspora/cultural struggles plotline go? I think it should go to Davrin! I feel like his struggles with Dalish identity are completely glossed over and I am honestly desperate for them to have expanded on that more. The Dalish altogether are glossed over in this game, honestly, which is a travesty considering how central the Evanuris are to the main plotline. If Davrin had a family member reach out to him (a parent, perhaps?) and try to convince him to return to the Dalish or something, and his difficult relationship with his culture was more explored, it would add so much to him as a character. He already mentions feeling like he didn't belong among the Dalish! He hints at dealing with similar criticisms that Taash canonically experiences from their mom! It would even further develop his struggles with raising Assan with a gentle hand, if his upbringing among the Dalish was established as not a kind one.
Anyways this is just the tip of the iceberg for me when it comes to this game. There are so many missed opportunities and botched storylines that I 100% blame on corporate bullshit. I think the game as it exists today only started production after the latest layoffs in 2023, and whatever work was done previously was scrapped in the name of making it more widely marketable. It's bullshit and we deserve better, especially queer fans

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
I will be the first ti admit I was skeptical going into the game. I was SUPER excited about it, but one of my friends played it before me and actually returned her copy. She said it was janky, repetitive, and unimagined. It was super disheartening to hear because she is also the biggest Avatar fan I know, if she didn't like the game then it must be bad.
But I kept it on my Christmas list and old Saint Nick delivered, and boy am I glad.
I literally love it.
Here's why:
- The world, the nature, PANDORA in all of its glory... it looks INCREDIBLE. The world feels so alive and vibrant compared to other games of the genre and even other games by the developer (Ubisoft)
- the characters, the NPCs, specifically Etuwa are all fantastic. They have interesting dialog, dialects, accents, mannerisms, looks, etc. I'm particularly fond of the "Crush" sidequest.
- The combat. The combat is nothing new for ubisoft, but this definitely feels like the best execution of this style they have been working on in a while. Absolutely love the two bows. And throwing bombs at RDA.
-Customization. At first the customization is very underwhelming, bit as you play you unlock hairstyles, paint patterns, all that fun stuff and I like to think of it as my character "growing" as she goes along her journey. Being able to "disguise" armor with the appearance of other armor should be mandatory in every game here on out.
-The ikran. Very rarely do games have a GOOD flight mechanic in them. They are always so junky (looking at GTA) and don't feel good. The Ikran flight however... fantastic. It feels so immersive, and you can really feel that this is a living thing you are flying and not a machine. The scenery is beautiful and even the air is filled with interesting things. No game has given me the adrenaline rush that jumping off of the Ikran nook and taking flight has given me.
- I could go on an on, but I will end it with design. The characters, the world, the biomes, the weapons, the animals, everything. It's vibrant, colorful, and alive. You can tell someone put a lot of detail into every aspect and it's awesome
CONS:
- There have been complaints the game is buggy. I personally haven't experienced any game breaking bugs, but I have had enough npc's not showing up to be considered annoying
- the player character voices. I'm sorry, I'm sure that the actors are talented, but none of their voices fit the player character. All of the Na'vi NPCs have unique voices and Na'vi accents. Even the Avatar characters have better Na'vi voices. The Serentu who is known to be closer to the human word, Teylan, has more of a natural voice. I cringe every time I hear my character speak. I will give them credit for having a nonbinary voice and character option tho (the NB voice is also the most tolerable by far)
- the game doesn't really add anything new. It is a very standard RPG, Ubisoft doesn't really explore new techniques and gimmicks all that much. It feels very much like a reskinned AC odyssey. Which isn't inherently a bad thing, I like AC odyssey, but I would like a little more innovation.
- you have to pay for the DLCs, even if you pre ordered. I can tell they released "half" the game and are essentially making you buy a "DLC" to get the other half. It's a single player RPG (mostly) enough with the pay-per-use and "season pass"
So TLDR: if you like Avatar, and Pandora, and exploration, this game is for you. If you want to fly around, taking down helicopters and help restore the planet, you will love this game
If you are looking for the next Elden Ring, or fill-in for Baldur's Gate, you will find it underwhelming, and plain.
Rating so far
8.5/10

I'm feeling empowered so extra fuel to the fire of "Fuck you CW for being Homophobic" from little old me.
Specifically in Winchesters and Gotham Knights. Look at me, I know both of these shows were not A tier quality content, but damnit the fact they tried to give us canonically queer characters and got scrapped before either could even finish airing because of the overhaul CW went through recently still kills me.
With Winchesters, we got Carlos Cervantez, a nonbinary (he/him) and bisexual hunter in the 1970s just trying to get by. With teasers we knew from the start he was going to be bisexual in canon, and I remember genuinely feeling so happy and tearing up in the episodes where we had Carlos explicitly going through what is best described as Gay Panic™️ and it feeling genuine and well written. It irks me so much that there's still nobody talking about this, I know we all love Destiel, I do too, BUT CAN WE PLEASE ALSO SPARE SOME LOVE FOR MY BOY CARLOS HES ABSOLUTELY SLAYING WITH A HOLY WATER HAIR WHIP PLEASE LOOK AT THE ICON I BEG-
* ahem * sorry composure was lost for a second. Moving on.
Gotham Knights. As a batman and batfam fan, yeah I wasn't super stoked on this initially because it seemed like such an odd premise, I initially only watched it because Misha was in it as Dent and I was really excited to see how he portrayed him (absolutely fantastic job btw) and then I got gut punched by the reveal that Cullen Row was transmasc (and played by transmasc actor Tyler DiChiara!). I literally started the show for Misha and stuck it through for Tyler and Cullen and it was worth it. He wasn't treated any differently than any of the other guys just because he was trans, he's written beautifully and with genuine care for his character. I agree that the show wasn't the greatest or most entertaining to watch at points but it's targeted towards younger teen audiences of course its not going to be all that interesting to college students and adults, but the fact they spent the time to carefully craft a well written trans character that feels authentic to the experience as a transmasc person myself in a medium where there is still a lot of aggressive back and forth debate on allowing queer characters in, and waiting multiple episodes prior to revealing this to make it feel realistic to the characters and the viewer is beautiful and should be talked about and cherished more.
So that fact that both shows were canceled prior to finishing their runs and not given much of a fighting chance despite the loud outcries from the fans to continue running them, absolutely destroys me. And this isn't all of it too, I could go into a whole other rant about Ava Sharp and Sara Lance's relationship in Legends of Tomorrow along with John Constantine being on that show and how the show was basically run into the ground by making it so convoluted the only option was to completely cancel it after they collected most of the queer arrowverse characters into it to kill off in one fell swoop.
I just. CWs history of pretending it's queer friendly and then canceling shows with canon queer characters with the only explanation being "budget restraints" kills me constantly to think about.

The thing is Dropout doesn't produce fiction shows, they produce improv comedy shows. The actors are real people with real identities. They aren't characters created by a team of writers, they have skills and talents that make them a good fit for the programming Dropout does. If they did fictional shows then it'd be super easy to just write in more trans women. But trans women need to go and pitch to Sam Reich. And I'm certain they exist, so go support your fav transfemme comedian to get them on Dropout!! If they were getting those actors auditioning and not hiring them specifically because they are trans women, then that's a real problem that needs addressing. But I can't back the sentiment of Dropout should "just" include more trans women when there is a hiring process and budgetary restraints and talent scouting and ALSO THEY ARE!!! The main cast is old College Humor/Buzzfeed type people, ofc they're of a certain demographic. But look at the people who they've hired over the past 1-2 years. Radically diverse in not just gender identity, but sexuality and race. Literally ACOFAF cast was half trans (I'm not playing gender essentialism here, yes nonbinary/fluid people are trans).
Encouraging representation should always be the standard, but Dropout is far and above better at it than any other mainstream media company (whose percentage is literally zero). There is no bug in the system, the system is working incredibly well actually. Give them time to expand more and cast more and get your favs to audition for Dropout!!!
(also it's wild that people are talking about misogyny and then harassing Aabriya, she constantly gets way more hate than she deserves leave the poor lady alone)

I know I am repeating myself for the millionth time but I just idk any other blogs that are both GO and radfem 😭
I've recently learned that tumblr lets you filter search results by year and I've tried to look at my favourite demon's tag. And of course the 2024 fandom Beelzebub is so different from the 2019 fandom Beelzebub I could've thought they were from two different tv shows. Who is this long-haired, dress-wearing, bejewelled seductress and how did we get here from "look how gross and unsexualised our female demons are #progress" 🥲
I know a huge part of this change is the ship semblance of a plot she got in S2, but I can't help but wonder how much of it is because the fandom saw a brown actress with a less androgynous figure and immediately equaled it to "sexy seductress. sultry woman (sorry I mean they). wild and sensual temptress." I'm using the last epithet bc as someone who dabbles in IB fanfic I know the way that authors write Beelzebub has also changed from more reserved and dominant to... well... that. 🥴
Do not get me started on how much I hate what they did to Beelzebub lol
Now that you mention it, the difference in fandom response is very interesting! In 2019-2023 I remember Beelzebub being depicted as cool, mean, creepy, gross, etc. I don’t think it was very common to see her sexualised—in fact I remember people praising the show for not going that route with her, since “sexy demon overlord lady” is overdone.
2024 though? She’s pretty, she’s sweet, maybe a bit rough around the edges but she loves her Jakey so much. And as you said, she’s now depicted as a fancy seductress type.
Part of it is literally just that yeah, that’s what the show did to her. They completely changed her and made her unrecognisable, and I’m not just talking about the actor change. While I like Conn’s acting choices, I don’t like them for Beelzebub. It feels like she didn’t take any notes on the character from season 1, and just did her own thing. She really should’ve just been cast as a new demon like Shax, and that demon could’ve had the storyline with Gabriel. Beelzebub did not have to be part of the story—if they can throw in a comment about a face change, they could’ve just as easily thrown in a comment about how New Demon is a representative for Beelzebub who is too busy to be dealing with a missing Archangel (and who also doesn’t care). I think that would’ve been more fair to Conn, instead of having her do so poorly at playing somebody else’s character when she could’ve shone as her own.
But now I’m wondering if part of it is racism. Considering how women of colour tend to be over-sexualised, I can absolutely see this being the case. I can also see it being a case of performative fandomers wanting to prove how Not Racist they are, by going “look! I find this brown woman soooo hot! I want her to step on me! Look at me draw her half naked!” while being too stupid to realise that they’re contributing to the over-sexualisation problem. Maybe it’s a mix of both.
I’m sad to hear that she’s written that way in fan fiction. I haven’t read any post-season 2 fic, so I’ve been blissfully ignorant of how Beelzebub is being handled now.
Anyway. Beelzebub’s transformation from a cool and fed-up creepy gross woman to an edgy they/them who looks like she’s about to make a tik tok explaining how to do eyeliner in a nonbinary way, is a fucking tragedy. They should’ve left her alone.

Again, me, not again about the actor, but the pronouns this time, because wow. I honestly feel really bad for you, having to deal with people being so... like that
By theres-no-protocol-for-this:
Murderbot and Pronouns This is my personal opinion, so take it as such. But it felt like something worth saying. I used to get very frustrated when people used the wrong pronouns for Murderbot. I remember thinking more than once, why can't they just get it right. But, a few years ago, my mother read All Systems Red in Russian of all languages. In that translation, Murderbot is referred to, partially, as a robot, which is masculine in that language. When she talked to me about this human-robot, it was also in Russian, and using masculine descriptors. It became "he" by translation. I'm told that in the Hebrew translation, the pronouns are feminine, but that might be hearsay. Then, a dear friend of mine finally finished ASR! And she kept referring to MB as a "she." When I asked my friend why she did it, she said it was because of how its voice is described at the beginning of the book. She'd imagined a tough-looking butch with short hair, a no-fucks-given attitude, and a kind voice. Like herself. And that made me pause. She had seen herself in Murderbot the same way I had. Her choice of pronouns was coming from her perspective of the world, not from a desire to misgender MB. She wasn't trying to hurt anyone. She'd missed the pronouns (especially in book one) and saw herself in the main character. And I understood her logic. The thing she helped me realize as we spoke is that MB has unusual-by-US-standards pronouns, and when people didn't get them right, it made me feel like they wouldn't accept my pronouns either. That their supposed disrespect would extend to me, the person. But that wasn't true. My friend knows my pronouns and doesn't get them wrong. It was never about that. So, now I try to be kinder and gentler when I see people call MB a he/she/they. What I want is for people to respect my pronouns because I'm a living, thinking being, and I want my autonomy to be respected. And by being observant and kind to one of my favorite characters, people showcase that they may be kind to me and respect my autonomy. And that's what I tell them now. I care about MB's pronouns because its autonomy is one way for me to explore my autonomy in a world that wasn't willing to give me the freedom to be myself. And I find that people understand that, just like they see themselves in MB, so do I. And why that makes it important for me to see them get its pronouns correct. And some people didn't read the books deeply enough to really let the "It/Its" sink in. Or they're trying to reference Skarsgard-MB without misgendering the actual human playing MB. Either way, may I recommend kindness and compassion? You're valid, your frustrations are valid (and this is to everyone, not to anyone specific). You deserve to have the world acknowledge your pronouns and your autonomy!
Like, what even?
it's because asking people to do the bare minimum of not misgendering the explicitly nonbinary character is too much to ask for exorsexist jackasses.
It does not fucking matter if other language translations misgender Murderbot. We're fucking speaking English, which means you need to use it/its pronouns, it's English fucking pronouns.
No one is ever going to use Murderbot's correct pronouns if people keep demanding we coddle people's exorsexism.
I can literally just type out "just so you know, Murderbot's pronouns are it/its, not [whatever pronoun the person misgendered it with]" and get people swearing at me and claiming I'm attacking them.
"have compassion and kindness for people misgendering the nonbinary character" doesn't fucking work when the most simple, neutral correction gets taken as a personal attack by exorsexists.
These books have been out long enough, and have enough people in the fandom, that no one should be misgendering Murderbot after the very first time they interact with the fandom. It is Martha Wells' fault that so many people don't realize that Murderbot's pronouns ARE it/its (because I guess she'd rather die than just have these characters tell eachother their pronouns), but that's no excuse when this fandom has collectively known it for years.
And yes, if people are usiung the excuse "well in this other language it uses traditionally masculine/feminine pronouns—" they're an exorsexist jackass. We're not speaking that other language. You cannot use that to justify purposefully misgendering it in English.

You're right that Oliva is lucky to act in a big show almost ten years into her career because I can still see her as other characters and not think of Alicent. unlike a lot GOT actors Emilia, Kit, Sophie, and Maisie. I think even Emma Darcy is going to have that problem.
I think Emma might avoid it because they are so drastically different from Rhaenyra even in terms of looks, Emma is obviously nonbinary with much darker hair than Rhaenyra's if they keep it in the style they currently have (which they should because it looks sooooo good on them) and dresses far more masculinely than Rhaenyra does (I think they said in an interview that the way they'd describe their presentation tends to be more transmasc and I WISH I could remember the article because it had a lot of interesting points).
Rhaenyra's also, I am sorry to say, far less iconic than Dany is, so while it was harder for Emilia to break out of being seen as Dany, in spite of her own differences in Dany's appearance, to the point of not being recognized if she wasn't blonde, that's likely not gonna be a problem for Emma (especially because it seems like Emma is sticking with theater and independent projects, mostly short films, so far). The thing that has made it so that a lot of GOT actors are immediately recognized as their characters is that GOT was insanely iconic. You say the names of any of the core cast and people instantly know who you're talking about. People literally named their kids after characters or words from those shows (and every kid named Khaleesi deserves compensation for having to put up with that for the rest of their lives). HOTD isn't on that level and it's likely not gonna get on that level ever, the writing has at no point been anywhere near GOT's at its peak (and took a nosedive MUCH sooner, at least D&D waited five years before they started to completely suck), it does not have anywhere near the same hold on pop culture that GOT did. So while looking at Kit and thinking "Jon Snow" might be a problem for the rest of his career, I don't see that happening with Fabien or Tom. Maybe Ewan, but the disparity in looks between him and Aemond might help him out like it might help with Aemma (he's not a blond naturally, his hair is much shorter, he has both of his eyes, he smiles more than Aemond does).
But Olivia and Matt also having established careers, and even established careers that gave them prior fanbases (Matt obviously has Doctor Who and Olivia had shooters from Bates Motel), is absolutely gonna help them to avoid getting locked into "seen as character before being seen as an actor". I don't even think Daemon is the most famous of Matt Smith's shitty man roles, let alone his roles in general (DW is always gonna be his most famous thing and at least he got nominated for an Emmy for playing Prince Philip).

Ok, so I need to know more about aasimars having a gender-neutral body type, like that sounds so interesting! Pls explain further with this concept.
What do Dina, Maya and Gadrielle sound like to you? What kind of voices do you imagine them having? How different do each of them sound compared to the other (especially the twins!!)
(different anon btw. Hi).
Heyooo thanks for dropping by!
Okay so I absolutely need everyone to know that is is NOT a canon dnd assimar lore and not even DM-approved (yet?) 😅 Just something I made up!! Official Forgotten Realms 5e Aasimar lore here
Short answer: I think of celestials more as a genderfluid entity, it's just a divine or cursed being. Hence, Dina and Maya who have celestial heritage lean towards a rather gender-neutral body type. It could also just me being a nonbinary menace and showcase that through my oc lol :)
They do have a certain way of speaking! Dina's tone sounds serious and monotone. Maya's would be straightforward but down-to-earth playful (lots of "dudes"). Gad would have the sweetest and most charming voice, being a bard and a musical merchant.
May I interest you in some of my oc fics to enrich your curiosity??????
Loooong winded answer below!
Aasimars to my knowledge are basically humans that have a touch of celestial (celestial blood mixed in them, descendant from celestial, celestial herritage etc...basically mortals that have traces/lineage from other celestial planes).
Dina and Maya are aasimars. We've found through our games that they are descendants of a Ghaele--celestial eladrin, basically fey angels some sorts. One of the clearest physical traits being their pupilless almost white crystal eyes.
Now, I personally think or celestials--or angels--as 'creatures' rather than 'humanoids' in the 5e categories. Like if you wanna target them with a spell, you gotta use a spell that specifically said 'creatures' such as Hold Monster or Dominate Monster. For that 'loose' reasoning, I think of celestials more as a genderfluid entity, it's just a divine or cursed being. Hence, I wanna showcase this through Dina and Maya who have celestial heritage by leaning towards a rather gender-neutral body type!
Voice wise, I have not really thought of how they would sound bc when we're playing it's literally just my voice and my DM's voice all the time (we're no voice actors sadly). But we do try to portray them in a certain way they speak.
Dina is a socially awkward person. She reads a lot so she's used to speaking in her head more than outloud. So when she does speak outloud, it sounds almost too studious, monotone and unemotional. It's also funny because she can be a very emotional and passionate person, which shows through the pace that she speaks. She would stammer and stutter a lot when trying to get acquainted with someone for the first time (bless that -1 Charisma). She would rush straight to the point when she's angry that somebody hurt her lovers. Her voice would become scratchy when she's on the verge of breaking down as if she's trying to absorb all of that to herself.
Maya is a very playful, mischievous and a 'people' person. Prankster. It definitely makes up for where Dina lacks. I imagine she has the similar regional accent to Dina, but she sounds like your 'tough love bro' if that makes any sense. She does have that conversational wits so pickup lines--both terrible and good--are up in her arsenal. Cracking jokes left and right. Girl got humor for days. That being said, she sounds honest and down-to-earth with people she loves.
Gadrielle would sound like how an opera singer sounds when they talk in normal conversation. She is extremely charismatic. She sure knows when to lighten and when to emphasize. She for sure has a way with words. She picks and chooses her words carefully. She seems to be very calmed most of the time. Except for Maya who is married to Gad, I don't think we've ever seen Gadrielle say something she didn't mean or let slip of her anger in her words. There was this one very subtle occasion when talking about her wife Maya having the rights to beat the shit out of someone who manipulated her, but the words technically aren't that violent (it was more of her attitude in that case).

I watched - Yu-Gi-Oh! GX - 2004
"If I could erase 4kids from ever existing, it wouldn't even be a question."
"Jaden Yuki" goes to Duel Academy and I dunno, shenanigans. You start with low stakes until you end up saving the world, given my sample size of two, that's just how these shows play out.
For the most part GX feels largely meh? Like, as long as I keep watching maybe it will end up not the worst series.
First off, I'm going to address the Crystal Beast Amber Mammoth in the room. The dub. The powers that be in charge that neutered the content should be sent to the shadow realm, the stars, death, or whatever. Like, in switching to subbed for the last season, I saw that they changed LITERAL DEATH with "sent to the stars". I kind of figured that was the case but it's still stunning to see a Yu-Gi-Oh character outright say someone died. The accents. The characterization. Americanization of names. Like, so far as I'm aware, this kind of butchery isn't as present in modern dubs. Just voice acting quality. That's a whole other thing though. ALSO ALSO the visual censoring! Sake to Hot Sauce. Covering up Burstinatrix. De-nonbinary-izing Yubel. GRILLED CHEESE. UGH. I tried to find an outright list of changes made but no such luck. I'm fine. This isn't an issue with the dub but good lord Goku is everywhere.
As for the actual content itself? Even with the dub making a joke of almost everything, there is still some amount of silliness. They duel a monkey. It's not like that wasn't there in the... wait hold on. Okay yeah it's in the original too. There are four arcs and all of them are the same. Like, a rehash of the sacred beasts. A cult where people get brainwashed. They go to a duel dimension where... people get brainwashed. Then Darkness descends on the world and starts... brainwashing people. There's no escalation or variation of threat? The individual beats are varied, but just seeing people get brainwashed every arc got old.
In the final stretch it did get me a bit. Bonding with your ace through thick and thin and imagining it as a representation of everything you've gone through is good. But just a bit.
Nope, not done with the dub stuff. I hate how few VAs there are. That's a huge complaint (probably exacerbated by 4kids) of anime in general. Outside-in the industry as a whole feels so insular. Like, being able to look at Behind the Voice Actor and seeing dozens and dozens of credits feels weird. I get they're just making a living. Up to me and they'd be paid well enough on individual roles they wouldn't have to worry as much. Then just branch out. Skyrim comes to mind having one person voice 34 characters? Different but the same.
All in all I don't think GX is that good.

hi long post anon… again😭
yes “rule” is more so used as “unspoken boundary”
and its a lil concerning anon didn’t pick that up when the explanation is right under that specific quote they picked😭
like have fun but don’t get caught up in thinking that just because you write something that is fiction that your muse is gonna wanna see it
not only is this just to be safe/respectful morally but even legally in terms of copywrite
thats why mainstream authors don’t want people to send them fanfic because the author may accidentally add from the fic subconsciously. Or coincidentally they added it because it was an idea that you two happened to think of at the same time before you ever sent the fic or the author opened your letter/email.
this leaves people to then be able to claim the author stole content whether intentional or not.
but also in terms of morals, it just says that you respect how an author views their relationship with THEIR work by not making your interpretations aware to the author. many authors work hard to establish their worlds/characters and may feel put off if they feel someone has mischaracterized their work or morphed it into something they don’t recognize within the canon of their universe. not to say that the fic isn’t good but essentially you dont come into someone else’s home and tell them how to decorate.
and in terms of real life people, it keeps your muse from seeing how you characterize them which may not be a reflection of their own self-actualization. and again it can mess with how people see themselves. or almost feel like they’re being harassed to reveal something about themselves because fics with certain characterizations are being thrown in their face. like “i know something about you, you should just say it already.”
its not to say that a nonbinary or autistic headcannon isn’t valid but sending it to someone may feel like projection to that very real person.
like jungkook may not take offense to being called nonbinary or trans but if thats not his actual lived experience, then sending him fics or making him aware that you’ve “headcannoned” him as such would be crossing a line.
its like saying “oh im going to disregard how and what you’ve being willing to share about yourself publicly until you possibly give in and out yourself.”
we saw this with the actor who plays the bisexual boyfriend in Heartstoppers. people -mainly other queer people- couldn’t separate the actor from his role and kept poking him to come out until he actually did. just because the internet was right about him being queer, doesn’t mean they were morally right for pressuring him.
its like receiving a “love” letter from an unreliable narrator in which they detail how you smiled at them once which meant you were “obviously” flirting; when in reality, you -the person who knows your own feelings- only smiled cuz you were just being nice. doesn’t mean you aren’t a lover; it just means that your love hasn’t been extent towards them.
if Jungkook is nonbinary, he’s is for himself; not to reaffirm some preconceived notion Army have. he exists outside our collective thought and doesn’t need fic to convince him of his identity or lack there of.
basically this rule is a “curtesy” that we should extend to ALL people. so unless they ask, don’t show your fanfic to your muse, friends.
ugh i keep ending up long winded😭🤦🏽‍♀️
but this has been fun discourse and hopefully it enlightens someone cuz that what social change is supposed to do💜
thank you for explaining a little deeper, my lovely.
literally i’d go missing and you’d never hear from me again if bts were to read anything i’ve written, it’s not made for them 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ my worst nightmare is them perceiving me LMAO
and i think i can speak on behalf of most writers that what we write, either it be bts as gay or anything of the sort, is no way for us as writers to push the boys to come out or feel as though they should identify a certain way. as i’ve reiterated like a million times within the last couple of hours, it’s all a story, not there to project onto anyone in real life. i don’t sit in my bedroom and scheme up ways to force an agenda onto bts, i’m just trying to have a good time and little fun and if i’m doing something wrong then at least i’m aware now and can improve as a person
i’m not saying, as a straight fact any of the members are gay, or that they specifically go by they/them pronouns. if he does identify as anything above then that’s super cool too and he doesn’t owe me or anyone else anything, and that’s fine!! but me writing a non binary jungkook is in no way me saying that is how he should be or is in real life. idk why that point hasn’t come across for some people yet 🏃‍♀️
anyways, thank you again for taking the time to explain!! you definitely deserve a yummy snack after all this, and you’re super cool and very smart!! so thank you for taking the time out of your day to talk about such a kinda weird but very interesting topic with me 🫂
