I don't know who decided to put Ray under Isabella's care but the culprit is the biggest ever. giving her her own child to raise to death? Of course she didn't know and would have never knew if Ray didn't remember but still. Do it means that the other mamas in the other farms had to raise their child too? I love that thank to Isabella who has listed all the mamas and their alive children (when she was grandma) because now they can be reunited in the human world. It will be nice for the youngest
You know what.. for the longest time my most hated TPN character was that demon bastard who ends the life of my favorite villain ever.. BUT NOW? I think it might have a new contender hahahaa. Ahh, yeah, that’s really such a cruel move to pull off. I wanna doubt they had any idea on which babies go to which mother, but I sorta can't. It seems the Grandma distributes the babies to the individual plants and we know from Isabella’s side-chapter that Grandma’s have access to all sorts of information. So if Sarah (if it is her here) actually knew that she was handing Isabella her own son, then DAMN. Yet another reason for me to hate her!
Tumblr media
It’s not a totally bad thing though? If Ray was sent to a different plant, he would’ve still used his infantile amnesia to learn the secret of the house, but then I dunno how well his plan to survive would go if he had to make a deal with another mom. I hardly believe any other mom would even tolerate the idea one bit like Isabella did. Take Krone for example. Once she learned from Isabella that some kids knew the house’s secret, she was so quick to decide that those kids needed to be shipped off. I’m sure a handful of sisters/moms would’ve handled the situation the same way, so Ray might not have lived very long at another house. That is, if he even attempted to make a deal at all.
Tumblr media
So I guess we have to be thankful he did end up under Isabella’s care instead? Partly because she low-key says “to hell with the house’s rules” and cares more about producing high quality merchandise, but also because she was dealing with her true son. It’s a rare moment when her “Iron Lady” facade cracks so the revelation certainly effected her greatly, so as much as she tries to hide it, she does indeed care for him.
Tumblr media
As for other sisters/mothers raising their own kids or not, I'm sure it had to have happened occasionally, (Sarah certainly seems like that bitch to pull it off more than once too) but I don’t believe any of them knew like Isabella did. The four sisters in ch181.7 seem pretty surprised learning that their children are even still alive to begin with.
Tumblr media
I wanna say it’s rare the ladies wouldn’t know anything, but then again how did Krone manage to confirm Ray was Isabella's son from the note he left? We don't know what was fully written in the note aside from “Dear mother..” so while that alone could be valid enough proof, I still don’t understand how Krone managed to confirm this information as true instead of be skeptical about it or think it was just a trap.
Tumblr media
What book of secrets did you manage to get your hands on girl? I don't wanna put belief into something so random because there's really no better look at the book Krone uses, but they resemble each other very faintly..
Tumblr media
Anyways.. yeah, thanks to Isabella for raising the children so well that they were able to survive and possibly spend time with their potential mothers, if they ever choose to that is. I also find it real sweet that they're all so happy and relieved to be free. They truly deserve a life of happiness for all they've been through.
Tumblr media
I'm still unbelievably salty that ch177 ended the way it did (thank god that was the one positive change to come out of season two) because damn it, you can't give all these women and children freedom and a bright future and not include the best mom ever aka Isabella aka love of my life not ever having the chance to experience her happy ending with her own precious kids! Ahh I'm gonna stop here before I get emotional. Thank you again for the question anon!

Someone pointed Emira could be Odalia’s favorite being the one with the same hair color, same gender, naturally skilled, more common sense smart, and less empathetic. Being the most like her. So I bring up the potential hc that when Em gets mad, she sounds the most like O. Cold, condescending, she can gaslight, and easily mimic their mom and it kinda sorta freaks Ed and Amity out. But whenever they mention it, Emira completely denies the similarity.
          That is… an honestly terrifying thought. And I kind of love it! Granted it’s worth noting that Amity’s face resembles Odalia’s more, with Emira getting her eyebrows from Alador; But even so…
           I think Emira, alongside Edric, are aware of the flaws and abuse that their parents passed down to them, sort of- They can tell they’re unhappy and that their parents are strict, but I don’t think they have much socialization, and thus much of a frame of reference for what a healthy family looks like, much less others to tell them when they’re being too cruel- At least until Luz came along. So while I see Ed and Em as sometimes working on some flaws passed down by Odalia and Alador –like elitism for example- I can also see them doubling down on the rest… Like for example, Odalia’s gaslighting constantly made the twins doubt themselves and their own judgment, so they’ve attempted to cope by going too far in the opposite direction; And never stopping themselves and asking if what they’re doing is wrong, and doing little to reflect, because they’re afraid that they’ll default back to that same insecurity if they do hesitate.
           Essentially, I can see Emira believing that she’s moved past her parents’ abuse, and thus being vehemently denying of any similarities to Odalia… But I can also see her having that doubt deep down. Maybe Emira lets Amity and Edric’s point get to her, and she tries too much to be TOO unlike Odalia… Focusing on doing things and acting in ways that her mother wouldn’t. Emira might think she’s avoiding becoming like her mother, but in the end she’s still defining herself by Odalia, by defining herself to the exact opposite of what her mother would do- But it’s still in reaction to the kind of person Odalia is, in the end. And obviously avoiding Odalia’s kind of mistakes is helpful, but with Emira, I can see her going too far in the other direction, in her desperation and paranoia.
           Especially since she seems to have the most issues with Blight identity, at least on an open, self-aware scale. Emira seems to want to be her own person separate from Edric, not tied to nor solely defined as one of two Twins with him… And it makes me fear that Emira will try too hard to be her own person, to the point where she might avoid Edric and let a rift form between the two. It’d be heartbreaking, and still allowing others’ perception of Emira to influence her relationship with her brother, to a negative degree. The more I think about it, I think Emira is also very self-conscious in her own right, like her sister Amity… They just go about it in different, yet similar ways; It’s a two sides of the same coin situation, where Amity tries too much to be what others expect of her, while Emira tries too hard to be the opposite. Either way they’re not allowing themselves to exist exactly as they please, completely disregarding others’ opinions as if they never existed to begin with.
           Edric then stands out- Not because he’s a boy, but I because I see him as… Not really caring about how others perceive him, at least not as much. I think if Edric’s fears are any consideration, he prioritizes companionship over any sense of individuality, identity, and uniqueness. Not to say he completely disregards that either, but if Edric begins to feel desperate, like the walls are closing in and his options are cutting off, like Emira is going away from him- I can see him analyzing the situation as an ultimatum of companionship VS individuality, and I can imagine him choosing the former. Maybe he might resent Emira for choosing the other choice… I can see potential parallels between Eda and Lilith, and Emira and Edric respectively.
           Going back to Emira, I can see her denying any similarities to Odalia, and completely shutting out any criticism because she doesn’t want to doubt herself, she’s tired of being reminded of her mother, being defined by her… And on the other hand, maybe Emira becomes too obsessed with her lineage. With the ‘curse’ of being a Blight, of being so much like her mother. And instead of learning to live with this and accept it, maybe appropriate these aspects as part of Emira’s own identity, or at least understanding that this is an inevitable biological process, amidst people inevitably being influenced by abuse –not that they can’t overcome it either- I’m afraid Em will see her Blight lineage and traits as… Something to purge and loathe entirely.
          And I’m just imagining Emira going through a lot of self-loathing, maybe experimenting a lot with her own appearance- And while it’s good she’s trying new things, Emira might reject a particular look if it’s too similar to Odalia’s, or not dissimilar enough. Like, if Emira enjoys having green hair, that’s okay, and she shouldn’t let Odalia ruin that for her- Just as Amity shouldn’t let Odalia and Alador’s expectations ruin her enjoyment of learning. Regardless, I can see Emira being very self-conscious about it no matter what… Either she’s TOO receptive to what others have to say, or what Amity and Edric pointed out bothers Emira so much that she’d rather ignore it and deny it, because she really doesn’t want to start doubting herself again after moving past Odalia’s gaslighting…
           And, it just gets me to this fascinating sort of speculation, and idea, of some characters in this show low-key becoming the very things they swore to avoid becoming. Emira doesn’t want to be like her mother but ends up being too critical of her siblings for avoiding their likenesses as Blights, basically holding them to a standard like their parents did to them… Ed and Em together not wanting to be like their parents, but ultimately being cruel to Amity because she’s not as free-spirited or independent as they want her to be, amidst doing things because they think it’s for Amity’s own good… Combined with my speculation on Boscha, who possibly doesn’t want to become clingy and dependent like her mother, but ultimately is just that, needing the attention and approval of others to feel happy, looking up to Amity too much, and being unable to handle negative emotions because she denied their existence instead of coping with them.
           Overall- Terrifying and fascinating headcanon! Even if Emira quickly turns around to admitting the similarities, I can see her initially denying it in the heat of the moment, because nobody likes to hear that when they know their parents suck. And while I’m not totally sure of Emira being Odalia’s favorite, if only because she can be rebellious and a troublemaker like Edric… There is the possibility that Ed and Em ARE favored, and it’s why Amity is held to such a scrutinizing standard- And not just because Amity was conditioned to be more obedient. Just… someone PLEASE get these kids away from their parents!

Imagine working at Freddy’s Pizzeria, and telling your dad something is wrong. (Part One)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Description: The reader just got a new job at Freddy Fazbear’s. He thinks something is up and is proven right on the first night. Maybe his dad can help? This is the family business...
.
So I’ve never played FNAF, but from one reddit thread I gathered that it takes place in Utah. Please let me know if this is wrong!
~~~~~~~~
Another day, another motel in Nowhere, Utah. Y/n was starting to wonder if his dad and uncle actually knew what they were doing or if they were just taking a break from their case. They had already been here three days.
“So...when are we leaving?” Dean didn’t look up from the newspaper he was reading.
“Sam said the guy we’re talking with could need us for about another week. Maybe two.” Groaning, y/n flopped back onto the motel bed. He was so bored!
“Can I help?”
“No. Too dangerous and I can’t be worried about you getting hurt while working.” Y/n started to pick at one of the threads on the comforter.
“Sam will be there, he can keep an eye on me too.” Dean finally looked up from his newspaper.
“Y/n. I understand you want to help but I need to know your safe. That means sitting out on this one, okay?”
“Fine. But I’m helping next time.” Dean smiled and nodded in agreement.
“Alright.”
<—>
Help Wanted: Nightguard; Details inside.
That was the sign that greeted y/n when he went on a food run. The pizzeria looked run down, but hopefully looks were deceiving; otherwise it was burgers again.
“Whatever. Anything is better than burgers again.” Y/n opened the door of the pizzeria and was greeted to possibly the saddest place he’d ever seen. The restaurant looked empty and outdated, and the animal robots—animatronics, y/n told himself—on the stage were...actually kinda creepy.
“Hi! Welcome to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, how can I help you?” A cheerful voice broke through the silent restaurant, and y/n found himself faced with a waitress probably just older than himself.
“Yeah. You guys are open, right? I didn’t walk in when you were about to close?”
“We’re still open!” Y/n nodded and almost took a step back from the waitress. She was almost scary perky.
“Okay, cool. I didn’t want to walk in at the last minute. Do you have a menu I could look at?”
“Yep, here you go!” Glancing at the menu, the majority of it seemed to be character themed pizzas. Y/n decided to make conversation as he looked for something the three Winchesters would all like.
“I saw your ad about the night guard position on the door—” Y/n was cut off before he could finish.
“Oh, are you going to apply? Here, let me get my manager!” Before y/n was able to ask for more details, the overly perky waitress had gone into a back room. She returned with a balding man who was smiling widely.
“Good afternoon! So, you’re interested in the night guard job?” Y/n shook his head.
“I was actually just curious. And looking for someplace to grab lunch.” The manager’s face fell.
“Oh, my bad. I thought you were hoping to apply for the position.”
“I mean, what exactly are the details? I might know someone who could apply.” He really didn’t, but y/n felt sorta bad for getting the older man excited for nothing.
“Well, it’s a temporary position. Five nights, and all you have to do is stay in the security office.” Temporary? Maybe y/n could do this job and get some spare cash. He could use some new tires for his bike...
“That’s it?” The manager nodded.
“Yep! It does have a low pay, but we are going out of business soon and don’t have the funds to pay much more than $200.”
“I see. Could I apply?” Placing his chin in his hand, the manager looked y/n up and down.
“It depends. How old are you?”
“I’m eighteen years old.” A lie, but y/n highly doubted the man would hire a sixteen year old. He looked old enough to be eighteen (at least, Sam said he did).
“Alright. And do you have any serious health problems or conditions?” That wasn’t something y/n was expecting. Wasn’t there paperwork for this kind of thing?
“Uh...no?” The manager grinned widely. It was a bit unsettling.
“Great! Can you start tomorrow?” Y/n’s eyes widened. Was this even legal?
“Wait, seriously? That’s it?”
“Yep! And don’t worry about buying a uniform, we’ll provide you with a shirt.”
“Alright then. What time do I come in?” The manger went back to his office, returning with a shirt and a sheet of paper.
“Just be here before twelve AM. Your shift ends at six. This paper has all the details and my number in case of emergency.” Y/n took the shirt and paper from the manager.
“Got it. And one more thing?” The manager raised an eyebrow.
“Yes?”
“Can I order a large cheese pizza?”
<—>
“That was possibly the grossest pizza I’ve ever eaten.” Dean pushes his plate away, one slice still left on it. Y/n took another bite of his and grimaced, wondering how exactly you screwed up a pizza this bad.
“Don’t blame me, I didn’t make it.” Sam set his plate down, all the cheese gone on his slice after it slid off.
“Where did you get it? So we know to avoid that place.”
“Place called Freddy Fazbear’s. Also I kinda-sorta-maybe got a temporary job there.” Dean choked on his soda and Sam had a surprised look on his face.
“Wait, what?” Y/n put his hands up defensively.
“So this place needed a night guard for like five nights and I figured since we’re going to be here for a while, it wouldn’t hurt!” Dean shook his head and turned to his son.
“Y/n—” Y/n interrupted before his father could finish speaking.
“Dad, it’s only five nights in a building that was empty in the middle of the day. It’s probably just as empty at night.” Dean rubbed the back of his neck.
“I’m not sure it’s a good idea...” Y/n rolled his eyes and took a drink of his soda.
“Seriously. It’s six hours of watching a restaurant in the middle of the night. What could possibly happen?”
<—>
Y/n parked his bike outside the pizzeria and chained it to the bike rack. Even at night the place was creepy, possibly creepier. Making sure he had the keys he received earlier, y/n headed inside.
It was eerily quiet without the music playing from the speakers. The animatronics were on the stage, and y/n couldn’t help but shudder as he walked by them.
“Creepy as hell, but entertaining to kids.” Y/n snorted, walking quickly away from the stage. He soon found the security office. From a quick look around, it appeared that all y/n would have were the cameras.
“Right. Let’s see...I guess I’ll just sit and play on my phone?” At that exact moment, the office phone rang. Y/n picked it up to hear the tone for a prerecorded message.
"Hello, hello? Uh, I wanted to record a message for you to help you get settled in on your first night. Um, I actually worked in that office before you. I'm finishing up my last week now, as a matter of fact. So, I know it can be a bit overwhelming, but I'm here to tell you there's nothing to worry about. Uh, you'll do fine. So, let's just focus on getting you through your first week. Okay? Thinking it was just a welcoming message, y/n began poking around the small office while the message played on. There really wasn’t much in there, and the doors had weird buttons near them.
“...So, you could imagine how having your head forcefully pressed inside one of those could cause a bit of discomfort...and death. Uh, the only parts of you that would likely see the light of day again would be your eyeballs and teeth when they pop out the front of the mask, heh.”
“Wait, what?” Before y/n could entirely process what the phone guy said, he accidentally knocked the phone down and unplugged it from the wall. Y/n scrambled to plug it back in but the message was already gone. “Shit!”
Slumping down in the chair, y/n ran a hand through his hair. Why would he possibly be at risk of dying? It was only a night guard job! That was when he spotted the note on the desk.
“Seriously, what the hell is up with this place?” Y/n decided to take a look at the cameras. Yep, there were all the animatronics—where was the rabbit? Flipping through each camera, y/n kept an eye open for the rabbit until—
“There! Wait, that’s down the hall. Is it coming here?” Y/n quickly jumped out of his chair and ran to the door, hitting the button to shut it. Not a second later the rabbit was outside, trying to get in.
It didn’t stop after the rabbit left. The whole night, each animatronic kept trying to get inside the office. At one point, three animatronics
At 5:57, y/n lost power.
“It’s fine. There’s only three minutes left.”
5:58. Two minutes. The fox animatronic entered the office, and lunged towards y/n. He ducked out of the way and bit back a scream at the hook cutting deep into his shoulder.
The fox turned around for a second go, and—
—it straightened, turned, and left the office, leaving behind a very confused y/n. As soon as the manager arrived, y/n booked it back to the motel he, his father and his uncle were staying at.
<—>
“Hey, did you see where I left my keys?” Y/n didn’t pay attention, too focused on his research to notice Dean talking to him.
“Y/n?” Y/n glanced up at his father, one eyebrow raised.
“What?”
“Did you hear what I said?” Y/n shook his head.
“Sorry, I was busy. What’s up?”
“My keys, do you know where they are?” Y/n pretended to be deep in thought for a moment.
“Uhh...your pocket?” Dean rolled his eyes.
“Very funny. What’s got you so occupied?” Y/n turned his laptop around to face Dean, a search for ‘Freddy’s pizzeria’ displayed on the screen.
“The animatronics at the place I’m working tried to kill me last night. Also I should probably look into getting a tetanus shot.” Sam peeked out from the bathroom door with a confused expression.
“What?” Y/n pulled the collar of his shirt to the side, revealing a bloody bandage to his father and uncle. Dean’s eyes widened in shock.
“What the hell happened to you?!?!”
“I told you, a robot pirate fox with a hook tried to kill me!”
Fankid Kill List
I was going through some of my fankids I’m not feeling as much and debating whether I should scrap anyone.  To help organize my thoughts, I wrote notes about each character to see if things could be salvaged.
Kanto
- Blue “Leaf” Greene (Beta) (Single Mother)     Quill Greene - Beta!Boy
Pros: While a bit of a con since it makes developing him daunting since too many possibilities, he has an in with Team Cross and Team Rocket, so there's a wide range of possibilities here.  A unique position other kids don't have. His design is also open to whatever cause his father doesn't matter so sky's the limit. In some ways it's wasted potential to scrap him?
Issues: He is, without question, the oldest fankid if I stick to the original plotline.  That is truly why I have issues developing him. He's disconnected and by the time TC is taken down, he'd be 24-28.  No longer a kid, an adult with his own life by this point. Which further disconnects him from the rest of the cast. Leaf isn't going to be able to justify shielding a 28 year old either, the way she could if he was in his teens.
Solutions: Scrap Leaf. But to keep him, I really do need to modify things with Leaf. Because I don't want a fankid that much older than the others.  Maybe Leaf really is just a villain.  Joined TC because why not.  She was in TR already. Maybe the group wasn't as bad early on.  Plus she had already experimented on Pokemon. In this scenario, she doesn't take the job for her son, she does it for herself. Quill is either the result of sleeping with someone in the group, or full on science baby.  This would allow me to make him younger, but amps Leaf’s villainy, to the point she approaches irredeemable. Or at least Karma Houdini. He requires a lot of consideration, which since I forever neglect Kanto, is why I consider cutting him. Save myself some headache. Although if he goes, Leaf might go as well. I could also just make him evil. Science experiment kid that attacks others.  But again, Leaf’s villainy increases as his does. Basically, kinda start fresh.
Johto
Perfect as is!
Hoenn
- Liza Remwood (Alpha) & Flannery [Moore] Remwood (Beta) (FiregirlShipping) Scarlet Remwood - Alpha!Girl
(Flavia can live)
Pros: Liza knocking up two ladies during her world tour through Hoenn is so good. I love this plotline. The kind of drama I crave. I also love this ship idea, one of my pair-the-spares I got more attached to.
Issue: I just...have no role for her.  Flavia is friends with Ina, and I really really like the potential of this ship as well as the way they get together. So they have to have at least one kid. But there's a reason I don't give two kids to side ships unless I'm super passionate about them. She just feels like a placeholder character.
Solution: Obviously develop her.  In theory, she should be around the same age as the older Hoenn kids. Thus she needs a role related to them.  Gym Leader like Micah and Neil?  E4 member?  I think designing her might help. Alternatively, she could maybe work for Interpol and interact with Lonan, Rosette, and Lynn.  Take the role Kalei was meant to have. Be a tough independent girl like Liza.
- Greta Walter (Alpha) & Liza Alvis (Omega) (MartialArtsShipping) Alyssum Alvis - Alpha!Girl
Pros: Her parent ship is cute.
Issues: Like all the Hoenn kids on this list, I have no role or development for her. She literally only exists because I’m very taken with Tate’s family, so I had to develop his twin sister by default.  I also like her parent’s ship in theory, but they have no development.  So I actually just don't care about this family at all outside their connection to Tate’s family.
Solutions: I really am drawing a blank for her development.  She could possibly interact with Armel, Mara, Corin, and Lotte, which would imply an interest in contests.  Make her someone's ex?  Liliana or Kei’s? There is no loss or gain to her, so unless something comes up, it might be best to let her go and add her back down the line if needed. Alternatively, doing something drastic to her parent’s ship might help.  It’s why I like Tate/Tucker, so adding some kind of edge could go a long way.
- Sidney Cethin (Alpha) & Glacia [Foyr] Cethin (Omega) (HoennEliteShipping) Damien Cethin - Omega!Boy
Pros: I'm starting to grow really fond of his parent’s ship.
Issues: Don't care for his name. No role. No real feel for his character at all.
Solution: Change name.  To Lumi perhaps?  Even though it's an ice themed girl’s name, I've wanted to use it for a while and could swing it for an omega. He could maybe work for the E4. Have a crush on Dylan?  Interact with main Hoenn kids more.  Maybe completely swap the roles I was thinking of for him and Scarlet. He's in Interpol?  Ice king. He and Scarlet could also be bitter exes with lingering feelings.  I suppose that would give Lonan someone his own age to go to for advice. With Scarlet they're just bros, but I suppose with Damien, they could also “help each other out” during that time of the year.
- Zinnia Draconid (Omega) (Single Mother) Eurybia Draconid - Omega!Girl (Other parent is Liza Remwood (Alpha); IotaShipping; one night stand)
Pros: The plotline for her conception is so good. I want to keep her for that reason alone. Potentially cute design with parents like that.
Issues: No development.  She’s also kinda tied to Scarlet, so if one goes, the other likely follows.
Solutions: Develop more.  If I keep Scarlet, she lives by default.  So prioritize Scarlet for development. Since character wise, I was picturing her somewhat priestess like.  The other way to interpret “lorekeeper.”
- Riley Roscoe (Alpha) & Wanda [Lorn] Roscoe (Omega) (TunnelShipping)   Ander Roscoe - Alpha!Boy
Pros: He's Peyton’s cousin so from a story standpoint, I like the idea of Wanda helping Wally out with pregnancy stuff since she already had a kid.
Issues: I feel nothing for the parent ship which is the major issue with him.  I also picture him taking after his dad more , so not a cutie and pretty boys are my bread and butter.
Solution:  Give him a cute design? Change his design and character so he takes after Wally’s half of the family more? Bryne could maybe date him, which is an idea I've had for a while anyway but I should develop Bryne more first.
Sinnoh
- Maylene Hendrick (Alpha) & Candice [Iclyn] Hendrick (Omega) (GlistenShipping) North Hendrick - Alpha!Girl
Pros: Pink hair.  Her parents are an obvious f/f alpha/omega couple I've considered since the beginning.
Issues: Don't feel much for the parent ship.  Have no role other more interesting characters can't serve. The issue truly is that for almost everyone else I consider cutting, I either like the parent ship or I sort of like the idea of the character themselves. North has neither quality.
Solution: She's #1 on the hit list, so I truly do think I will cut her.  That's the solution. Otherwise….while there's no character/personality to scrap cause she has nothing, try to start from the ground up?
- Thorton Withrow (Beta) & Marley [Austin] Withrow (Beta) (BriarShipping) Ivy Withrow - Beta!Girl
Pros: She actually has a design sketch started!  A potential science kid Oralie could interact with. Or just provide tech support from the background. Quirky and eccentric.
Issues: She's actually low on the hit list since my main issue is that I'm just not feeling the parent ship as much, over having issues with her?  It was a pair-the-spares that stuck, but never rose in interest for me.  I'm neutral on them over disliking them. She's also just not that well developed, but same with everyone else on this list.
Solution: Consider changing parent ship? I want her tied to Thorton over Marley if this happens.  Parents divorce? Finish the sketch of her, since actually drawing the character almost always helps.
Unova
- Curtis Mirren (Omega) & Rosa Blanc (Omega) (LiveCasterShipping) Briar Mirren-Blanc - Omega!Boy
Pros: Protag ship so kinda have to keep per my own rules.  Has a unique family dynamic and conception method. Cute.  Potential actor kid.  Creepers would be into him which is easy drama points, so an avenue to explore even if I've maybe overused the idea at this point.
Issues: I don't like his parent ship much.  That's really a big part of it. They're fine. But just boring.  I have no alt ship for either of them though so this isn't easily fixable. He’s also disconnected from everyone since I don't have him interacting with anyone yet.
Solution: Either the parent ship needs to be scraped or heavily modified, or Briar just needs to suffer.  Throw shitty omegaverse tropes at him so his life is angst, and then maybe I'll care. A different route I haven't actually used tho is he could be a fankid hit with a teen pregnancy. Cause what scandal.  Bonus points if the father is either his manager or just some older actor guy he co-starred with in something. Someone playing his father.
- Lenora Carter (Alpha) & Hawes [Howard] Carter (Omega) (AloeVeraShipping) Amber Carter - Omega!Girl
Pros: Her design would be cute as hell.  Sorta fro-ish hair the same color as Lenora’s.  Sorry Hawes, she's gonna look like Lenora.  Also a friend for Bailey, which is an idea I've had for a while.
Issues: Don't care about her parent ship.  I don't dislike them. I just couldn't care less.  So like Ivy, she's low on the hit list since it's related to parent ship over disliking the fankid herself.
Solution: Draw her so I like her more?  I don't think much can be done about her parents tho.  They're canon and no reason to ship them with anyone else.
- Benga Asquith-Dragwald (Alpha), Iris Asquith-Dragwald (Alpha), & Shannon [Cecil] Asquith-Dragwald (Omega) (DragonheartfullShipping) Kino Asquith-Dragwald - Alpha!Boy (Biological parents are Benga/Shannon) Aspen Asquith-Dragwald - Alpha!Girl (Biological parents are Iris/Shannon)
Pros: A unique family dynamic I don't have anywhere else. In theory, the kids have good color combos for designs.
Issues: I kinda...don't care about any of these characters as much?  As terrible as this sounds, Iris is a character I never felt any attachment to. She's fine. I just don't care.  And Benga and Shannon aren't actually interesting enough on their own to fuel this family. It's a ship I consider dropping because I don't care.
Solution: Change things around with the ship?  I don't know what.  I'm not against this pairing, I’m just not super feeling it as it stands.  That needs to be resolved before I can make progress with the kids.
- Stephan Moray (Alpha) & Montgomery Vilis (Omega) (GekiShipping) Wyatt Vilis - Alpha!Boy
Pros: Interaction with the Grimsley/Marshal kids, who I love.  I like the basic idea of the connection between their families as well.  Exists to be someone Colvin can use once he's rescued.  So Colvin’s sad future ex-boyfriend.
Issues: He's very undeveloped and I actually don't feel strongly about the parent ship. Making them connected to Grimsley/Marshal just means they’re overshadowed by that ship’s greatness since that's a ship I really really like.  Also, any number of characters could be Colvin’s kinda sorta boyfriend once he's rescued. I don't need to make a character whose only role is that. So he needs more.  Needs to be his own person.
Solution: Obviously just develop him more.  Also consider doing something to switch up his parents dynamic a bit?  I think if I can make myself feel that ship more, things will fall into place.
Kalos
- Olympia de Vere (Alpha) & Fantina Belaire (Omega) (CirqueDuSoleilShipping) Sybil de Vere - Alpha!Girl
Pros: Gonna have a bitchin design with those parents.  Can be the Gym Leader of Anistar, a role I need. Psychic chic who can see the future, so useful for plot purposes if needed.
Issues: She's very disconnected from the other Kalos kids, who all are interwoven through each other.  That’s really her biggest con.
Solution: Make her interact with more characters.  Also make her a bit younger, maybe only a year old when the game ends?  She could very well be Casimir’s age as well.  No reason a 14 year old couldn't be a Gym Leader. Something she feels super strongly about, given her heritage. Also instead of her being cold like Olympia, switch things around and actually make her kind of petulant. Butts heads with other characters.  Really, just get her interacting with someone. She has relatives in Hoenn and Sinnoh so no reason to lock her to Kalos either. Which if I keep her older, is an option for the other characters to have her interact with.  Travels with Felix for a time?
Alola
- Hapu Makua (Alpha) & Acerola [Kealoha] Makua (Omega) (SilkStoneShipping) Akoko Makua - Omega!Girl (Twin) Akia Makua - Alpha!Girl (twin)
Pros: I said I'd do parent ships people recommended and that's what this is.  I also don't think I'd pair these two with anyone else?  They have ghost potential with is always a plus
Issues: I don't care about this pairing or the parent characters. Either of them. Hapu is just kind of boring while Acerola is one I want to like in theory, but don't.  And unlike most of the other kids in this situation, Akoko and Akia don't have anything going for them that makes me consider holding on for that reason alone.
Solution: They're very high on the hit list. Hard to say if they're #2 or #3 (tied with the kid below). Since while I could do something drastic with their story to make them more interesting, nothing will change the fact that I just don't feel anything for their parents. Maybe it's better to scrap them and cut my losses.  I can always add them again later. Plus easier to start fresh if they've been scraped.
- Kukui (Alpha) & Burnet (Beta) (EternalHoneyMoonShipping) Kalei Burnet-Kukui - Beta!Girl
Pros: White hair!  This is such a blessing, it's a shame I don't feel this kid at all. From a narrative standpoint, I also feel these two would have a child. It makes sense given how they were acting as parents to Lillie. They really truly should have a fankid.
Issues: I don't care about the parent ship and never will. It's cute, but I have no desire to develop canon ships.  This is a curse I have as a whole in any and all fandoms. And while this is true for every Alola character, I got no role for Kalei.
Solution: I do think cutting her and Akia and Akoko would go a long way to making me like Alola more.  If I could make myself happy with all the fankid in the region, it'd make me want to develop them more. Because I don't actually like Alola all that much.  Doesn't have the advantage the other regions have for me (except maybe Kalos) where I really like the region as a whole. I've thought about her a lot, and at this point, I can't think of anything that would make me like her more.  Cause the parent ship will always be the issue. If I do scrap her, I might give her name to the Lillie/Hau daughter, cause I hate Leila’s name.
The Omega Breaking Point
Request: Anon: “Alright so you’re an omega that lives with three alphas (Cas Dean Sam) and they always treat you like this thing that’s incompetent and can’t take care of themself so when they again deny you the right to come on their hunt you leave the bunker only leaving a note, and it breaks cas’s heart cuz he’s in love with you.. anyways you end up in trouble and they save you!”
Warnings: ABO universe, lil bit of angst, danger, canon-typical violence, briefest insinuated rape type thing,
Word Count: 3368 (I’M SO PROUD)
Beta: @quilliamfears
A/N: The A/B/O rules in this fic are sorta bland, it’s more a social status than anything here. This is mostly in Cas’ point of view, except the beginning part and the end. Also I made a James Patterson book reference in here, see if you can find it! Please be aware there are a lot of time skips in this, indicated by the breaks. POV switches are marked with “////”
As much as you love Cas and the Winchesters, those stupid Alphas only ever treat you like breakable glass due to your Omega status, even though you were a hunter long before you met any of them. You can handle your own, and they all three seem to forget that any time a case comes up lately, because this is the third case you’ve had to sit out on in two weeks. All it is, is a simple salt and burn in the next town over, but nope, you’re not allowed to go, put under house arrest essentially, and it makes you want to scream. What gives them the right?! You’re just as good at hunting as any of them, given the chance.
The boys are all three packing up for the case, apparently it could be a ghoul instead so they’re all three going, but they won’t let you, telling you that you need to stay back. Again. You suck it up and pretend to be over it, but all the while as they’re packing up, you’re planning. You can’t stay here, not when they treat you like this, like you’re useless and incapable of anything except running the fucking house.
The boys leave, giving you hugs and ignoring your petulant pout, and as soon as you hear the Impala rumble away into the distance, you get to work, grabbing two of your duffles and shoving all your stuff in them. You nab a few weapons from the armory and throw them in as well, just to be safe. Lastly, you grab the picture frame sitting beside your bed, huffing out a sigh. The picture inside is one of you and the boys, grinning as you squish in between the two brothers with Cas looking mildly confused, and you smile fondly at the memory of the day the picture was taken.
Sam and Dean were arguing over what type of food to get- Sam wanted salads and healthy stuff, of course, while Dean was petitioning for burgers, fries, and pies. Castiel was watching them intently, trying to understand the minute details of their interaction, still not fully comprehending the connection between the two brothers. You were sitting in a chair a little ways away, hiding your laughter behind a fond smile as you watched the entire thing. They looked so much like a family- hell, they were your family, and you felt a sudden, intense need to take a picture of them. You’d tried to do it sneakily, but then you’d left the flash on, and they all noticed. Though you expected them to get upset and scold you, Sam just grinned and motioned you over, then took your phone and held it out with his long moose arms. He pulled you close and Dean stood on your other side. They pulled Cas in behind you, though he wasn’t quite sure what was going on- he still hadn’t gotten the hang of cellphone photography yet either- and Sam snapped a couple pictures. Most of them were blurry, but there was one that was perfectly clear, and you’d gotten it printed out as soon as possible, putting it in a frame and keeping it on your shelf in your room.
You shake your head sadly, pulling yourself from the memory, and carefully place the frame in your bag, zipping it shut. You grab a pen and paper and write a note explaining why you left, that you’re tired of how they’ve treated you, and that you don’t want them looking for you because they can’t respect you as a hunter or a person and only see you as your biological status anymore, which hurts more than you can explain. You never thought that your family would hurt you this way, but they’ve proven you wrong, and so it’s time for you to be on your own.
Setting the note on the counter, you look around one last time and head to the garage, climbing into your car and driving off, ignoring the fact that you’re leaving behind everything you’ve known for years and the angel you’ve loved.
////////////
When the boys get home a few days later, they don’t expect you to be waiting anxiously for them, you never do when you’re peeved at them for leaving you behind, but the bunker is suspiciously empty, all three of them getting the sense of something being off as they walk in. It’s like the air is dead almost, and it puts them all on edge. They spread out, guns at the ready, and explore until Sam calls for them and Dean and Cas come running.
Sam stands in the kitchen, a piece of paper in his hand and a heartbroken look on his face. “It.. It’s from (Y/N). She left. She’s… She’s gone. She says that she’s tired of how we treated her, like she’s only an Omega and not a hunter or person.. She calls us family but says that family must mean heartache and pain, and that she thinks it’s time for her to be on her own. She doesn’t want us looking for her…”
Dean snatches the letter out of Sam’s hands and reads it, rereads it, his eyes going over her words repeatedly, not believing it. He looks up at Sam with wide eyes, then holds the letter out to Cas, who just shakes his head sadly.
“No, I feel that she is not here, I don’t need her words to confirm it.” He says quietly, and the boys stare at him in bewilderment. Castiel feels their confusion and shrugs, eyeing the floor. “I… I believe I am in love with her. I know her scent and it’s only faintly here, nearly absent. She’s gone and has been for a while. Because… Because I treated her as less.” Cas looks ashamed and walks away, head hanging low and shoulders slumped.
Dean looks over at Sam and cocks an eyebrow, to which Sam responds with a shrug. “I dunno how you hadn’t figured it out, they both love each other and just wouldn’t admit it. Even a blind man could see it, Dean. Are we going to look for her?” Sam asks, and it’s Dean’s turn to shrug.
“I don’t know man. She says not to, but since when do we not go look for family?” Dean feels torn, wanting to fix things but not wanting to make things worse. He feels guilty for how he treated you, even though he was just trying to keep you safe. It’s not that he thought you weren’t capable, he knew you could kick some serious ass, he just didn’t want you to have to.
“We’ll look for her then. Our bags are still packed, we might as well. Go find Cas, I’ll pack up try to ping her cell.” Dean nods and goes to find Castiel while Sam settles in at his laptop, plugging it in and getting to work making calls and trying to find her location with the gps.
A few hours later and Sam has her last known location, a town called Stillwater, Nevada, and they’re off, piled into the Impala and trying to ignore the moping angel in the back seat. Sam pulls up information on the town, trying to figure out why she decided to stop there. But then there’s articles on the town and some incidents that scream supernatural beings, and Sam dives fully into researching while Dean drives and Cas stares off into space, his face an unreadable blank slate that neither of the brothers want to discuss just yet.
They pull into the nearest motel and Dean goes to get them a room while Sam unloads the car, checking (Y/N)’s last known GPS location again. When Dean returns with the room keys, Sam speaks up. “Guys, the last place her phone was active is about a five minute drive from here. I think she’s hunting a vetala, has she taken them on before? Does she know they hunt in pairs?” Worry fills Sam and Dean, and they turn to consult with Cas, only to see him poof away. The brothers let out twin sighs of irritation before taking their stuff into the room and trying to form a plan to find (Y/N) and take out the vetalas.
/////////
Castiel, angel of the Lord and leader of a garrison, is powerless to save the woman he loves. He resigned himself to that as soon as he walked into the bunker and felt your absence. It feels like a piece of his heart is missing and he’s angry because he doesn’t know how to get it back, how to get you back. He realizes he messed up, and he wants to make things better, but he can’t do it when he can’t find you, and right now, you’re invisible to him. He curses himself for putting the enochian warding sigils on your ribs, though only for a moment, because logically he knows the symbols have kept you alive more than once. But logic is hard for Cas when it comes to you.
He sits on the ground and tries to calm himself with some meditation, center himself and focus, but his mind is all awhirl with worry for you. He forces himself to take deep breaths and focus on you, on your smile, your laugh, and the way you look after a hunt, the happy memories he has of you, because if he can hone in on you, maybe, just maybe, he can hear your thoughts.
After what feels like hours of silent focus, Cas gets a hint of your voice. Quiet at first, but it gets stronger, until it’s just one long scream of pain. Castiel tries to pinpoint your location, but he can’t, and he’s frantic. He can feel his wings unfurling and shaking, distressed at not being able to find his mate- well, not officially his mate yet but he’s determined to change that once they find you- who is obviously in pain.
Castiel eventually gets his emotions under control and makes his way to the motel room, pacing, too agitated to stay still as Dean outlines the plan. They’re going to leave Cas out of it until they’re sure it’s her, and then Dean will pray to him, Cas will to show up, and he’ll take (Y/N) out of there, wherever there is, to somewhere safe. He’s then going to heal her and take care of her until the brothers get back. Cas is to listen, try and find her via their connection, and if he finds her first, he has to call the brothers for backup before going in and saving her. Castiel doesn’t like being left out until the end, but he understands that it’s necessary, especially if they’re going to save (Y/N) the right way.
“Can you handle that, Cas?” Dean asks, grabbing onto Castiel’s shoulders, and Cas shakes himself from his thoughts, nodding once.
“I can handle that, Dean. I’ll keep listening.” He says, and the brothers share a look, then start packing their stuff and head out. Castiel climbs onto the middle of a bed and settles in, focusing his thoughts and energy on searching for her, desperate to find the other half of his heart.
It’s only a few hours later when he hears Dean’s voice, declaring their discovery, and Cas is there in a blink, eyes wild, appearance disheveled. The minute he lays eyes on her, Cas has (Y/N) in his arms and gone, back to the motel room, and he lays her gently on the bed. She’s bloody, beaten and bruised, her clothes shredded, and when Castiel sees the bruises on her thighs, his vision goes momentarily red. How dare anyone touch his mate in such a way! Cas’ wings rise, mirroring his agitation, and just as he’s about to storm out to find the monster, (Y/N) moves, just barely, the quietest whimper ever leaving her lips, and Castiel is right beside her, taking her hand and holding it carefully, sending healing warmth into her, desperate to ease her pain as much as he can. Without her conscious, he can’t assess how much damage is done, too afraid to touch her and make things worse, so he watches her face expectantly, willing her to wake up.
She moves again, squeezes his hand back, and his heart nearly sings at the response. “C-Cas?” She asks weakly, her voice hoarse, and she opens her eyes just a little, squinting up at him.
“Yes, it’s me (Y/N). What can I do for you? How can I help you, Omega?” He murmurs, reaching up and stroking a strand of hair off her face, infusing his touch with healing, desperate to fix her.
“He- he hurt me e-everywhere Alpha; I hurt a-all over. C-can you heal me? A-and water, my throat-” Before she can say more, Cas has a glass of water conjured, and his fingers pressed on her forehead, sending his grace through her body, healing every cut, scrape, and bruise on her battered body. She lets out a relieved sigh when she’s fully healed and carefully sits up, taking the glass of water from Cas. He watches her closely, eyes tracking every movement she makes, and she flushes under his gaze. “Thank you for saving me.” She whispers, and Castiel knows that he should just be thankful she’s alive and okay and back with him now, but unexpected anger rises in him and he bristles.
//////////
“You left.” Castiel’s voice is accusing, and the hurt underlying it makes your heart ache. Yes, you’d left, but you’d had your reasons- good reasons. You hadn’t expected anyone to be too upset about it, but apparently you were wrong.
“I- I did Castiel.” You reply cautiously, frowning and pulling your knees up to your chest like a barrier. You’re not sure what else to say, and Cas’ unreadable expression is focused on you intently, like he’s trying to read your mind.
“Why?” That single word and the broken, defeated way Castiel asks, shatters your heart. Of course he wouldn’t understand, he’s an angel and an Alpha. You scuff your toe against the floor, not wanting to look at Cas when you explain, but before you can say anything, Sam and Dean are bursting into the room, looking a little rough around the edges but nothing worse than usual. They both smile at you when they meet your eyes, and you move to give them each hugs, but Dean holds his hands up, stopping you.
“While I’m glad to see you safe and healed, (Y/N), but we’re covered in Vetala guts, and we’re pissed at you for leaving. So, no hugs just yet. I’m going to shower, and I’m sure Sam wants to too, and then you owe us an explanation, more than that damn note you left.” Dean’s tone leaves no room for argument and you nod your head meekly.
“I- I’m going to go to my room and shower too. I need to change out of these ripped clothes and get my stuff.” Cas’ head snaps up and his eyes are narrowed on you, practically giving away what he’s thinking. “And don’t worry, I won’t try to run again. Cas, if it’ll make you feel better, you can come with me to make sure I don’t.” You offer with a shrug, though you feel tense. The thought of extended time alone with Cas, once you’re clean, fills you with thoughts that are anything but. You’d missed the angel, and him calling you “Omega” had only stoked the fire of your oncoming heat.
Castiel nods, satisfied, and the Winchesters exchange a glance before nodding also. “Yeah, that’s fine, we’ll all get clean and meet up here. Pizza, beer, and an explanation, around 6?” Dean suggests, and you grin, nodding as well.
“Yeah, pizza sounds good. And I’ll explain then too. See y’all in a bit.” You grab Castiel’s hand without much thought and walk out, heading towards your room. You don’t have your keycard though, as you realize when you search your pockets, and you curse quietly. “Hey, uh, Cas, can you poof us into my room? I don’t have my key…” You ask meekly, and before you can even blink, you’re inside. You send the angel a smile and let go of his hand, moving around and gathering your shower stuff and clean clothes before turning and looking at Cas. “Make yourself at home, I’m just going to shower, I’ll be out quick.” You instruct before going into the bathroom and shutting the door.
The shower is exactly what you need, the surprisingly warm water cascading down your body in a comforting way, washing off the grime you feel covering your skin. Afterwards you slip on your plaid shirt and jeans, reveling in the comfort they provide. You walk out and grab your brush, running it through your hair as you look around for Cas.
When your eyes meet his, it feels like the world has stopped. He walks towards you slowly and takes your brush from your hands, tossing it on the bed, then strokes his fingers along your cheek. “I thought we’d lost you… I couldn’t sense you.” He whispers, and you lean into his touch, biting your lip.
“I’m sorry Cas, I just... I couldn’t stay. I said so in my note.” You offer weakly, and anger flashes in his eyes as he shakes his head, frowning.
“Your note means nothing. You left your family, abandoned me. We were all frantic (Y/N). We… I… It hurt, that you’d left.” Cas finally decides on his words, and you take a step back, his hand hanging in the air for just a second before he lets it drop.
“I’ll tell you and I’ll tell the boys; I needed space. You weren’t treating me like an individual! You treated me like I was breakable and couldn’t hold my own ever! You all seemed to forget that I was hunting just fine on my own the moment I admitted I was an Omega! So yes, I left. I can’t live like that, Castiel. I am a human being that can do things on my own. I enjoy going out and saving people, Cas, hunting down the monsters that terrorize the world. And you guys weren’t letting me tag along to do that, so sorry if I fucking left to make a point!” You’re yelling by the end, anger flowing through your veins, and Castiel frowns before getting in your space, his hands capturing your face and his lips pressing to yours in a heated kiss.
Your anger fades almost instantly and you melt into his touch, kissing him back, and you only pull away to breathe. “What- what the hell Cas?” You ask, your voice shaky, and Castiel sighs, frustration written across his face.
“Do you not realize how I feel for you, (Y/N)? You are my mate, even if you don’t recognize it, and I have to protect you. I’m sorry you aren’t happy that we leave you behind on hunts, but I need you safe-” You chuckle humorlessly and shake your head, shutting Cas up pretty effectively.
“Cas, mates or no, you have no right to lock me in the bunker, alone, and unable to help. I need to be out hunting. I can take care of myself, despite what just happened. And you can protect me on hunts too, you know? I get you want me safe, but leaving me behind is the worst way to do that.” You inform him, and Castiel actually looks sheepish.
“I- I am sorry (Y/N). I didn’t realize… I was just concerned for your safety. Please, forgive me?” He asks, and you give him a soft smile, nodding before pressing a gentle kiss to his cheek.
“I forgive you Cas. Now, c’mon Flyboy, let’s go talk to the boys and get some food, I’m starved. We’ll discuss the mate situation afterwards.” You give him a wink and grab his hand again, leading him out of your room to face the music that is Sam and Dean Winchester.
Eurovision 2018! commentary as it happened
Reposting from something done elsewhere. It is very very long, what with the competition lasting, you know, FOUR HOURS, so there is a keep-reading tag below.
No idea who the performers were, but I really liked that second number leading into the beginning and the parade of nations.
Interesting that Ross and Shangela felt the need to explicitly state that they will not be talking over the performers. I'm guessing that they had comments about that in previous years. (Also, totally forgot that Celine Dion got her start with Eurovision. And also somewhat confused, what with her being, you know, Canadian. Then, there are random Americans here this year, and I think Norway’s performer last year was actually from Australia, so.)
I do not remember the Ukranian boy band hosts from last year doing the instructions in English and French. I'm guessing in part because as they stated they were very new to English, so handling both would have been a bit much.
And here we go!
Melovin, Ukraine, "Under the ladder". Had a few problems wandering off key at the start, but then the number went insane and he was fine. Seriously, that ending was kind of nuts for a song that really wasn't all that intense. Didn't like it that much, meself, but we shall see.
Amaia y Alfred, Spain, "Tu Cancion". Surrounded by a sea of phone screens on one side, and a stage of things that aren't phone screens but might as well be on the other. It's actually the sort of very sweet ballad that wouldn't tolerate Eurovision-standard overproduction, so the lack of LED screen probably doesn't hurt them at all. No sense of whether or not it will do well, but the audience (and Ross and Shangela) seem to love them. (Cat Valente on Twitter: "Oof, Spain's only special stage effect was heterosexuality.")
Lea Sirk, Slovenia, "Hvala, ne!". A song and performance with attiTUDE, at the least. And about ninety million more flashing laser lights and spotlights than any song needs; I'm not epileptic, but I literally could not watch the chorus because it hurt. I can't imagine how difficult it was to be in the room.
Ieva Zasimauskaitė, Lithuania, "When we're old". A very very small and sweet ballad. If we didn't have the example of last year's winner, I wouldn't think a song this small would have any chance of making it through. Given that there's no projection screen on stage with her, I'm guessing that the images of couples we see next to her can't be seen in the auditorium, so they're aimed squarely at the juries and viewers, all of whom are watching on television elsewhere. And that staged ending, however hokey, was really sweet.
Cesar Sampson, Austria, "Nobody but you". I like the sound of the song, although I think it may have a shade too much repetition. His pants are ... weird. (People, if I, the fashion-impaired, am wondering why his spandex pants have a crotch at his knees, something is decided ODD.)
Elina Nechayeva, Estonia, "La Forza". Oh, Opera. Or at least operatic. And she gets around the LED screen restriction by wearing her own. Man, that skirt is MAGNIFICENT. It also provides all the motion, which is good, because she can't possibly be able to move without screwing up the screen. (Um ... were those sperm cells zipping around on her dress for a hot minute there?) I do wonder how much the auditorium can see, though; the main seating/standing level is all below stage level, and the balconies are all very far away.
Alexander Rybak, Norway, "That's how you write a song". A previous winner performing again. And again, effects that the audience can't see because they're composited into the camera. And it was fun, I guess, and I suppose that's how you write a song, but ... eh. Whatever.
There is a LOT more direct outreach to the auditorium audience this year than there has been in the past. The Slovenian grrrl group asking them to sing along, the Austrian guy saying  "How are you, Lisbon" in a song that really didn't tolerate it, Norway throwing his jacket into the audience ... I wonder how much this is a reflection of them compensating for the LED effects they don't have.
Claudia Pascoal, Portugal, defending champeeen, "O Jardim". Apparently, Portugal has decided that "small and quirky" is their niche, and they're going to OWN that. That said, the song built a little, in a way that last year's song never did, if only a very little.
And now a bit of business, both literal and figurative, in which the entire world sprints for the bathroom. Plumbing system managers around the world are thinking, "What the ... must be a break in Eurovision."
SuRie, Great Britain, "Storm". A very energetic performance, in which some rando grabbed the mic from her to get political. It was handled expeditiously, to put it mildly. She was able to get the audience back with her pretty quickly. Intrusions aside, the song was ... OK, I guess.
Sanja Ilić & Balkanika, Serbia, "Nova Deca". Cant understand a word, of course, but I like the sound and staging. Also the studmuffinly lead singer who set sail on a shorter version of the SS Kaftanic.
Michael Schulte, Germany, "You let me walk alone". It's a very nice, low-ish key song. Again, very simple staging accompanying effects ... although, judging from the reflections on the stage floor, unless the floor itself was part of the effects, the audience actually could see those. I wonder if management changed its mind about the LED screen ... or if he somehow brought his own with him. (EDIT: judging from later acts, the latter.)
Eugent Bushpepa, Albania, "Mall". Very dynamic. I mostly liked the sound of it, although I could have done with less of the falsetto blasts. Back of his jacket was ... odd. And ... that's it. That's all I got.
Madame Monsieur, France, "Mercy". So ... being able to kinda sorta just a little understand parts of the song are throwing me. Not least because it took me a couple rounds to catch up with the concept of "My name is Mercy", and not "My name is Thank you." Not helped by the fact that they were actually playing on that confusion deliberately. That aside, the song was ... very very French.
Mikolas Josef, Czech Republic, "Lie to me".  It's a fun song -- why is he wearing a backpack? -- but good lord, there's a lot of just standing more or less in place this Eurovision. (Well, OK, until the end of the song, for him. Bopping about with dancers and the occasional backflip off stairs is not “just standing in place”, no.) Also, it would have been helpful to have established the context that the other dancers were standing in light boxes bseside him; it looked on screen like they were somewhere else entirely at first. It's one hell of a dynamic performance, I'll give it that.
Rasmussen, Denmark, "Higher ground". Selected to perform the song because he looks like a viking. Which cannot be denied, really. Also, putting him in all black makes him look simultaneously undead and slightly terrifying. (Cat Valente on Twitter: "The lead singer for #Denmark looks like undead bearded Jared Leto when he hasn't had lunch yet.") The choice to stage with a bunch of long-haired burly trenchcoat-clad guys sorta kinda marching around is ... interesting. The song is sort of monotone; the performance is making a LOT more of it than it is, which is saying something. (And again, the appeal to the audience: "Come on, walk with us!" Which explains the marching.) Not quite sure what the snow effects have to do with anything. (The stagehands and crew for Eurovision must be both very good and feel very put-upon by the end.)
Jessica Malboy, Eurofied Australia, "We got love". It's dynamic, and it's ... fine. Although this is as close to typically Eurvision staging as we've had in a while. She did go badly off on her big glory note near the end, but she had a fair amount of song left to recover with.
And another break for business, and for business. The bit with the Serbian ... whatever he was, was very cute. The bit with Cesar Sampson was also very cute; hope he didn't hurt anything. And the bit with the Portuguese pod was also very cute. Cuteness abounded.
A very brief "in memoriam" bit to the first Eurovision winner, who passed away earlier this year.
Saara Aalto, Finland, "Monsters". Weirdly, I mostly like this song a lot. I think parts of it needed ... something, but I have no idea what. It just felt a bit off in places. (Not helped by the fact that nerves pulled her off key a bit here and there.) But that aside, it was energetic and interestingly staged. No sense of how well it might do.
Equinox, Bulgaria, "Bones". A motley of a group, with random Americans, according to Ross. Staged -- and presented -- as a really stark music video, sort of. Everyone in black. (My, this is a grim Eurovision this year.) That said, the blond woman singer does look as though she apported in from some completely different futuristic video. The song was ... fine, I guess. Can't quite see it going anywhere, though.
DoReDoS, Moldova, "My Lucky Day". Clever staging -- VERY clever staging, fifties doorway farce translated to music. Not that fifties doorway farce would have involved quite so much groping. It was really a lot of fun. It's so relentlessly out of anything even vaguely popular that I have no sense of how well it will do, but if there's any justice, that should be at least a top five finish.
"It's a very good chicken, sir."
Benjamin Ingrosso, Sweden, "Dance you off". And apparently some performers did indeed find their own projection stage solutions. Song is ... fine. (Saying that a lot this year, but that's all I got. It's not awful, it's not outstanding, it's FINE. If he were on the US version of The Voice, he would probably win.)
AWS, Hungary, "Viszlát Nyár". Um ... well. It's ... dynamic. Yes. It is ... that. Also apparently a fire hazard. And the lead screamer was barefoot. And the electric guitarist/bassist (couldn't tell which) decided to use Eurovision's audience as a mosh pit. (I bet the lead screamer can't talk after concerts, if he tries do to whole sets like that.)
Netta, Israel, "Toy". I really do love this song. Even the first few seconds have graduated from "intensely annoying" to "kind of growing on me". (They also sound MUCH better without autotune.) Not quite sure that the HEY light board thing really translated. Other than that, the staging is kind of lunatic, in initially small-scale Eurovision tradition. Oh, hey, sparkle shooters! And then the lighting went utterly insane! And then fire! And smoke! Ah, Eurovision!
Waylon, Netherlands, "Outlaw in 'em". A country song. Huh. I wouldn't expect that to do well at Eurovision -- an American-style country song being, you know, not even vaguely Euro-anything -- but as CW songs go, that was fun. Although you can tell that this was European, because he would have been Strongly Discouraged From That Staging here. The black guys having angry violent fits around the white singer was ... yeah. THAT. (Probably deliberately, given that the lead singer had lived in the US for a while, but still.)
Ryan O'Shaughnessy, Ireland, "Together". Low-key, lovely mid-tempo ballad. And I think he’s also been to Eurovision before, so he was able to keep his falsetto strong and on-key until near the very end. A nice all-male romance portrayed by the dancers on the stage and bridge. (Weirdly, given that the song itself is very clearly about the breakup and not the romance. Reportedly, the semifinal performance was censored in China, and the Eurovision broadcasting team promptly yanked China’s license to broadcast the grand final and blocked them.)
Eleni Foureira, Cyprus, "Fuego". It's fun, but still not seeing how this song is one of the favorites. To repeat myself: It was FINE. Lots of fire effects at the end, which, given the titlte, were rather required.
Ermal Meta e Fabrizio Moro, Italy, "Non Mi Avete Fatto Niente". Lyrics in many languages pretty clearly composited directly to camera -- they must have been in a complete panic when they discovered that they wouldn't have a big LED stage to work with. The song had sort of a nice build that they played with. Beyond that ... it was (say it with me!) FINE.
Honestly, I'm kind of clueless about what to expect. The staging was very low key. Very few of the numbers stood out. At a guess, my picks, vaguely in order, would be:
Israel Finland Moldova Austria Serbia Estonia Ukraine Ireland Cyprus Czech Republic Lithuania Slovenia Spain Portugal Netherlands Norway Sweden Italy Eurofied Australia (Yes, that's right, outside the top ten for the first time) Albania Denmark Bulgaria Hungary France United Kingdom (may do better with sympathy vote for rando invading the stage) Germany
I think the top three that I listed will actually be the top three, but beyond that ... I have no clue. And, to be scruplously accurate, I don't expect Israel to win, although I think they should. I think the geopolitical moment that we're in, which kept Russia out of the final for the first time ever, will also keep Israel from winning.
And now, the interval acts! The first couple singers are really nice. Can't understand a word, but the songs are still lovely.
The skit about the journey to Portugal's win was ... interesting.
And Salvador Sobral himself returns to the stage (sans last year's manbunnage) to sing another "I won't do Eurovision style" song at Eurovision. Which, to be fair, is a very nice sounding lament ... which his movements on stage do not at all match -- I wonder if he usually performs with a guitar or something and just has no idea what to do with himself. Or maybe I'm missing a lot because I don't speak Portuguese. Either way, he just looks odd up there.  ... oh. And now the song acquires tempo as he plays the piano like a drum. (In all seriousness, this is the most Eurovision-style performance I've seen from him; adding in a certain dynamism along with a certain amount of "What is he DOING?") And then he performed his Eurovision-winning song with a person who I guess is his idol. And the audience sort of sang along. (I wish I liked that song more, and I did like it better than last year’s Eurovision performance. Because that was a Moment.)
Interesting that Ross and Shangela, when they picked their top five, had almost NOTHING in common. They both had Israel and Germany in their top five, but nothing else.
And now: the jury vote! And judging from the early vote, the juries are going to be all over the place; Israel, for example, has been in second on one ballot, third on another, out of the top ten on the third and fourth jury ballots, first on the fifth; Cyrprus has a first and a few random other points; France has one first place (...the hell?), and not a single top ten vote anywhere else, and so on. But apparently the pre-competition love for Cyprus was justified; they're doing very well. But countries are bouncing all over the rankings in ways that they haven't the past two years. (Barring a massive televote result, it does seem clear that Eurofied Australia will indeed finish outside the top ten this year.) Unfortunately, Moldova is getting hammered in the jury vote, so they won't finish in the top five. SO UNFAIR!
Halfway through the jury vote, a pause for whatever reason, in which they cover the Eurovision young musicians orchestra very briefly. Israel very narrowly leads Austria and Cyprus. A pattern is emerging, slowly, that if Austria, Germany, Cyprus, Israel or Sweden isn't shown in a particular national jury's top ten, they will usually be the first place vote. Usually. But not always. (Hungary gave their 12 points to Denmark. And again: the hell?)
The green room for Eurovision is MASSIVE. For some reason, I thought all the pods were somewhere front of house. Also, Cesar should forego mentioning his Twitter password methods on international television.
Russia's jury got booed in the auditorium during the jury vote. (I do not have the slightest idea what Shangela was talking about when she said there was a hush in the auditorium.) This may go some to explaining their first-ever shut out from the Grand Final.
Unlike the past two years, at the end of the jury vote, it was utterly unclear which country would win. Last year, Portugal would have needed an unprecedented collapse in the televote to lose (it won the televote, so it didn’t matter); this year, it could easily go to either Austria or Sweden having a roughly equal shot, and Israel, Germany, and even Cyprus (which dropped back to fifth) having a not-unreasonable chance.
And now, the public televote results! Sweden, shockingly, finishes well down the public vote, so now their chances depend on Austria and Israel getting hammered. (Which does not happen.) And the public televote is ... weird. Seriously, how did Hungary do so well? And Austria does not win the televote, or even do particularly well! Serbia does well in the televote! But does not do well enough to matter! Ditto Norway! Moldova did very well in the televote, indicating that some people out there had decent taste!
Weirdly enough, as soon as they announced the fifth highest score, it became apparent that either Israel or Cyprus was going to win, because Austria getting hammered in the televote meant that they couldn't maintain first place. Italy, somehow, miraculously, managed a top three televote result, but finishing third meant that they couldn't win, because they got hammered in the jury vote.
Second place in the televote goes to ... Cyprus!
ISRAEL WINS! ISRAEL WINS! WOO-HOO!
youtube
I only got one of top three (and two of the top six) right (and Germany kind of epically wrong), and it was (sort of) the winner! Woot! And other nonsense noises! (Cat Valente on Twitter: "YES YES YES WEIRD #EUROVISION RETURNS TRIUMPHANT TAKE THAT BLACK SUITS AND EARNEST BALLADS ALIEN CHICKEN MUSIC FOREVER!")
youtube
Next year's Eurovision will be in either Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, belike. That should be ... interesting. (I'm guessing probably Tel Aviv ... although one of the announcers did just say Jerusalem. Well. That may be ... fraught.)
While I am glad that Netta won -- I really did think it was the best song and performance -- part of me was secretly wanting Austria to win so that next year we could have Conchita and Cesar co-hosting. But I am really happy about this result.
One of the things I both love and hate about this type of competition. "Hey, Netta, you have just won the biggest competition of your life! Now, get it all together and perform for us! RIGHT NOW! No, you can't take the trophy with you ... Oh, all right, take the trophy. LOOSE THE CONFETTI!"
a briefing so i don’t have to repeat myself
My parents got divorced when I was one. He ‘went on holiday’ to Switzerland when I was about 6, the only contact I’ve had with him has been like through letters when we’ve tried to change our names in court or something.
I’ve lived in three countries and moved house over 30 times - it sounds weird but there’s always been a good reason.
We were like the famous five kids (my cousins, my sisters and I) for years, but then my aunt’s a little crazy, so long story short we fell out and didn’t see them for like 8 years (side note, saw them this summer and it was weird but nice).
Uncle is batshit crazy and a psychopath, we don’t talk to him. He likes to remind my mum that he could kidnap/murder us every so often which is fun. My grandma has alzheimers (so does my great aunt), and my dad’s side of the family we don’t have contact with. Everyone else just isn’t around or is dead I’m pretty sure (that’s not tragic it’s just old age yk).
Umm, so, mum was determined to send us to private school, so after the divoce although we stayed in private education, she/we sacrificed a lot to get there. We weren’t poor or anything, just life was tight. That at one point led to us moving to Spain for a year (wonderful but crazy experience, I was like 6 at the time and genuinely my heart is in Spain. We have a house there in this tiny village, it’s kinda the only constant I’ve had in my life.
After that we moved back to England and I went to a boarding school (very minimal boarding at first though, so easy). Had an amazing time, yada yada then my mum met my soon-to-be stepfather. Long story short again, he had a bit of money and they got married quick, it seemed great at first but he turned out to be a wackass hoe as well.
A series of unfortunate events involving us moving into my grandma’s to look after her and my batshit uncle threatening to kill our cat and kicking us out of that house led to us moving a bajillion times between holiday rentals for like a year. We then ended up moving to Shanghai, again seems incredible at first until you remember that this is the point at which he started showing his true colours and being super emotionally abusive to my mum. Shanghai also happened to be a really convenient way to isolate a person. Anyways, I got sick of it after a year because the education was shit so ended up going to the UK and going to a super uptight full-time boarding school for the next year.
Went here, homesick as shit and my brain decided it would be a perfect time (when I’m in a super intense academic and conservative environment where the only person I have in the country is my sister) for my ✧・゚:* issues *:・゚✧ to manifest/me to actually understand shit. So yeah, bad year for me. This was also compounded by my mum (yk cut back to China where she’s being emotionally abused and my other sister is having a shit time) having an absolute breakdown. Idk the timing worked out great bc my shit time coencided with hers and she couldn’t cope with that on top of my homesickness and on top of her issues so this, combined with the multiple arguments that I had with her, meant that she told me to stop bothering her and so I did. We didn’t talk for weeks, and now I have ✧・゚:* emotional scars/trust issues and our relationship has never been the same *:・゚✧.
Anyways, she escaped by some miracle and we ended up back in England all together. This was when we returned to the flexi-boarding school (the one from before China) because it was the only one we could afford to go to. Sooo that place was super negligent and basically all I can say is that they had a really good PR team to stop all those suicide attempts within that school from going public.
Anyways, the first year was iffy, but as I said before, the issues that were becoming more apparently at the last school were kinda becoming more and more apparent (I now know it’s anxiety, depression, and then a possible spicy element of ADHD that we haven’t even got to yet). There was also another issue in that I’m bisexual and I was figuring that whole thing out (this is a side note but I’m probably non-binary but that’s a whole other issue that I’m confused/in denial about), but that led to me becoming friends with basically just the queer kids in my year because all my friends stopped talking to me. At this point I started almost full-boarding again.
Then I started dating one of my friends (Draco, AFAB but confused about their gender identity). Started off sweet, but long story short we dated for a year and a half and I’ve never been more broken (tried to kermit the frogicide 3 times hehe they barely counted as attempts yeet). Uhh there’s a lot to unpack with this one but I’ll try to simplify:
They had abusive parents (physically and emotionally)
They had bipolar
They also were raped by their dad multiple times
They were super manipulative. I wasn’t allowed to be happy about anything because it made them feel bad.
I wasn’t allowed to feel confident in my body because they had severe body issues. I ended up developing an eating disorder (all I ate was tea, toast after midnight and like milk and digestives).
I started self-harming.
My relationship with my sisters and mum was atrocious. It was definitely a huge part my fault, but not entirely.
As a group we were definitely very toxic. But yeah, on top of all this their best friend committed suicide, and they’d been in emotionally abusive relationships. This led to them being super suicidal. There was I think from November to February where every time they left school to go home, they’d literally try to kill themself. And I’d be stuck while they’re messaging me the whole time saying like “sorry you’re not enough to save me”. Every night. For months I was spending my whole life literally just trying to keep them alive.
Idk if I blame them, because it was definitely their trauma that made them act like it, but some of the stuff they did was manipulative and shit. Lying to me a lot, promising they’re telling the truth when actually lying. Constantly pushing me away, and then being mad when I couldn’t talk to them because they blocked me. Telling lies to my friends to get them to stop talking to me and then stopping me from telling my friends the truth (I wouldn’t tell them just because Draco made it seem like it would hurt Draco, and I was terrified of doing that). That sorta stuff.
I became a therapist for a lot of kids in my year, and so all that pressure of keeping like 20 kids from committing not-alive, on top of my issues just wasn’t a good look for me.
This led to as I said, the eating disorder, and also heavvyyyy dissociation. It also led to alcoholism which was just an unexpected turn. I just didn’t realise how bad all of these problems were at the time. Not a good time, a lot of loneliness, skipping lessons, that sorta thing.
Anyways, mum managed to get me out of the school (after a breakdown and an ambulance having to be called to the school because I drank too much). I did my GCSEs from home by some miracle, and she moved me to the local sixth form. I broke up with the person, and then had a few months over the summer that were life changing.
I moved to a new sixth-form, and it’s been rocky and uphill and super hard but I worked my ass off and I’m in so much better of a place than I was. It was rough at the start, but basically I had a pathetic amount of CBT therapy from the NHS, and the only good thing it did for me was to let me know that 1) I hate CBT, and 2) I already managed to teach myself a lot of the coping skills in the last year.
Then corona rolled around, and my anxiety went through the roof again, depressive episodes came and went and I’m still getting no help. But yeah, it basically made me realise that sure I’ve come a long way but I’m barely holding it together. It most CERTAINLY isn’t helped by the astronomical stress levels I’m getting from my A-levels and just generally existing at the moment is hard. I’m also low-key lonely because people kind of suck (I lost almost all my friends from my old school, don’t get me wrong that was for good reason, but that doesn’t mean that it didn’t suck. But yeah, I also got into a group of people at the start that were kinda shitty and so now it can be kinda lonely because it’s hard to make new friends).
My relationship with my mum has improved but it’s rocky as fuck. She’s very childish and I’m pretty sure hit the jackpot for trauma in every capacity but just pretends that sHe’S fiNe. While I’m writing this, she’s been incredible. Genuinely incredible. But also she can be one of the biggest problems in making me want to cease existing. She can be extremely manipulating and invalidating of my emotions, and generally make me feel like I’m going insane because she knows that I have no power over my life. She’s admitted it’s because she has to be in control of everything, but admitting it doesn’t mean it’s not toxic. It’s one of the hardest things in my life when it gets bad.
So yeah, I think that’s most of it!
Also side note, I may have attachment issues from the constant moving schools/houses/issues with my mum/dad leaving/crazy stepdad/i completely forgot to mention my step-brother who nearly got institutionalised in china because of schizophrenia that i didn’t see after that/constant changing schools.
Also second side note, only figure out recently and I’m probably completely wrong and I can’t remember it properly because I was so young but a kid a few years older than me might have touched me up when I was younger. It wasn’t anything serious, it just made me uncomfortable when I realise. I don’t know if I want to talk about it though because there’s a part of me that wonders if I just invented this trauma to make me feel special or some shit and YES I’m aware that’s the dumbest shit to ever think but oh well. Edit: also I feel like I have no friends/they're constantly changing. Also, childhood Moreton bullying.
