intro post
I'll probably add more to/change this later; I've just needed an intro post for a while, and this is what I could think of. you should probably remind me to update it if this section is still here after like six months lol.
name/pronouns/age/gay shit~
honestly you can call me whatever, but I probably won't know you're talking about me unless you use vel/velvet.
prefer they/it; any pronouns are fine.
I'm probably non-binary I guess.
I'm an adult.
I basically just identify as queer at this point, but I'm like,, vaguely aroace-spec probably? still figuring it out. I'm actually very happy to talk about it more specifically, but I might have to sit you down for an entire day to explain it lol.
what I do/post~
I mostly post fandom stuff, and my original posts include a lot of art + occasional meta. I'm starting write fic too, so that might be a more regular thing in the future :)
other accounts~
@/velvetygames -- explicit nsfw twitter/x account, not very active
@cornerbytes -- old dragon prince account that I will probably revisit when the new season comes out
@/velvet_games -- ao3 account
nsfw~
I post occasional nsfw here (never super explicit; that's saved for my twitter); it'll be tagged #nsft.
fandoms~
current fandom: hazbin hotel
previous fandoms:
hannibal (will always have a very special place in my heart)
arcane (will revisit when the new season comes out)
ofmd (literally so happy this exists; devastated it's not getting a new season)
the dragon prince (will probably revisit when the new season comes out)
good omens
lotr (I also read like 2/3 of the hobbit and will hopefully finish it this summer lmao)
things in media that make me go insane (in a good way)~
friendship
happy endings
cannibalism
(WELL-WRITTEN) romance (THAT RESPECTS THE CHARACTERS AS INDIVIDUALS AS WELL AS WHO THEY ARE IN RELATION TO OTHERS)
surrealism
good visuals (even if everything else is shit; extra points if it's animation)
angst
fake-hating
this one's weird but I love situations where a character is really helpless; I thought I liked whump because I can be borderline sadistic about it sometimes, but whump is really not necessary at all to this concept
religious stuff, mythology, angels specifically for some reason (especially when they're terrifying and/or fallen)
gay people
requests~
you are welcome to send in ideas through comments, DMs, asks, etc., but I can't guarantee I'll draw them. if I don't, it doesn't mean that I don't like your idea; I'm probably just busy or have too many brainworms about a specific thing to draw anything but what's on my mind.
notes~
I randomly get really anxious about feedback on stuff sometimes lol, but I promise I read every single comment/tag and cherish them very deeply <33
also, like/rb spamming is totally fine and welcomed! I know some people don't like it, so I just wanted to make it clear that it's completely cool with me.
mutuals~
for a really long time, this was my pinned post, and it's still true! definitely welcome any interactions from mutuals <3
I do have a problem with randomly ghosting people though; I've been much better with it recently, but please try not to take it personally if I don't respond to DMs quickly. I'm probably just being insane and in my head about it. I'm really sorry.
misc~
this is an account that is purposely removed from my irl stuff; I'm here to have fun and relax on my mostly fandom-oriented blog.
I don't block often since I mostly meet nice people on here, but I am very happy to block accounts that make my experience on this app shitty.
I try to tag triggers when appropriate, but please let me know if you need me to tag anything I haven't.
art for me is just a hobby I use for fun and self-expression, so while I really appreciate concrit, keep in mind that my goal is ultimately to make stuff that makes me happy.
I am also very protective of young artists that get made fun of for being beginners or making unconventional art; you should never assume why someone is making art, and you especially should not assume that they are focused on becoming more skilled or making things that are beautiful to you. if they're not hurting anyone and you're not their target audience, get the fuck out.
I am of the mindset that media is not real, but that your reaction/the things you learn are. liking cannibal media does not make you a cannibal, but seeing bigoted portrayals of minorities can feed your biases (doesn't necessarily mean you can't consume it; does mean its effect on you/others irl should factor into if/how you decide to interact with it).
I'm vaguely fucked in the head. just keep that in mind.

For the ask game, please ♡ (◍•ᴗ•◍)
🎉 💖 💪 😩 🎭 🎆
ohhh Su 💕💕💕
"🎉 Where have you noticed the most growth in your writing?”
I don’t know if it can be considered growth, I used to have trouble posting stories under/over a certain number or words. This year I learned that each fic I write has the perfect amount of words because… that’s how I want them to be. Like, I can convey my messages with 100 or 5k words and both are okay. (Does this makes sense??)
“💖 Was there a comment or another piece of feedback that made you feel all the warm and fuzzies?”
I must confess that, when I’m feeling particularly bad and unmotivated, I like to reread the tags people add when they rb my stories… they have the power to make me feel so much better! If I have to choose something that surprised me… I’d say these adorable doodles by @7000f1 💕
“💪 What ship gave you the most brainrot this year?”
I think we both know the answer to this. In general hypmic has conquered my brain and heart, but if we are talking about ships… HitoJaku gets the prize for making my mind go jdkwhdjsjhddkjendkd whenever I think about them. It’s not the first time I have an otp, but this level of inspiration and obsession…. is totally new haha my wips and ideas are 80% about these two old men and this ship is making me work and study in other areas other than writing. Second and third places go to KuuJyu and SasaRo 💕
“😩 Are there any ideas or fics you scrapped?”
Mmm, if I have an idea I try my best to write it down. I might not publish the fic, but I don’t just scrap it. It’s more common for me to abandon a story for some time before finishing it though…
“🎭 Did you do something new this year? Write for a new fandom, in a new POV, new ship?”
Ohhh, I did some new this year! I wrote xreader stories for the first time (I still have to work on this skill, but I’m pretty proud of the Jakuraixreader one even if it was the first one) and I started to write about ships and characters I’d usually just… ignore.
“🎆 What are you most excited to work on or share in 2023?”
At the moment I’m working on a few different AUs. The first one is the HitoJaku Florist/Tattoo Artist one and I’m having a lot of fun. I even made moodboards, maps, etc. This time I decided to wait at least until the third chapter is done before posting it… so I’ll have more time and it’ll be easier to schedule it. Another AU is… is something I’ve already talked about here and I decided to make it my 2023 biggest project. I’ll try to do a sort of novel/comic out of it, but it’s also possible that I’ll just do an illustration for each chapter instead.

hey lucie! i’ve been super into Real folk/folk rock music lately, but the only artists i seem to be able to find are white. i KNOW that there are folk musicians of color but i just don’t know who they are? i was wondering if you had any recs? thanks!!
right so!! unfortunately a lot of artists of colour in those genres have been kind of forgotten due to. yknow. the Racism. however, here are a few to check out (also full disclosure i don't know a whole lot abt folk rock so this is mainly trad folk):
for real traditional folk (often from a living tradition), try:
huddie ledbetter, better known by his stage name, lead belly. he is often cited as the person who popularized a lot of famous songs like goodnight irene, midnight special, black girl (sometimes also called "in the pines" or "where did you sleep last night") and didn't old john cross the water. he has a distinctive singing voice and guitar style, and a lot of his songs are work songs and prison songs, as he spent a lot of time in jail. he also wrote some songs with political themes, the most famous of which is probably the bourgeois blues. he was good friends with woody guthrie and mentored pete seeger early in his (pete's) career, so there are some similarities in style and repertoire there – if you like pete and/or woody you'll most likely like lead belly too.
missisippi john hurt is often shunted into the blues or country blues category (this is another problem with finding black folk artists; it's painfully common that they get placed in other genres), but this really isn't fair or accurate. he recorded a ton of folk songs, like frankie and stagger lee (limited amount of his stuff on youtube and spotify, unfortunately).
elizabeth cotten was a guitarist with a very unique style (she was left-handed, but played a guitar intended for a right handed player), which has become known as "cotten picking." her signature song was freight train, and some other fun ones are till we meet again and when i'm gone.
for a more polished vibe, try:
leon bibb was something of a folklorist, and as such he recorded a lot of stuff in a style that is both polished and historically accurate. also neither here nor their but if you want a "six degrees of separation" here my dad knew him so you can go thru me sdfghjkl anyway he recorded a lot of folk songs eg joe hill, danny boy and the water is wide.
harry belafonte is primarily known for other genres but he did record some folk songs, both traditional ones like shenandoah, midnight special and danny boy and covers of contemporary folk songs from the 60s – i'm obsessed with his cover of pete seeger's those three are on my mind
paul robeson is a giant among black folk musicians, known for his rich voice and very low bass range. check out his versions of joe hill, swing low sweet chariot, no more auction block and joshua fit the battle of jericho.
sorry i couldn't give more recs... i really don't know of any artists of colour in folk rock (bc like the only artist i listen to who is called folk rock a lot is carole king sdfghjkl) so if my followers have recs add them in the comments/rbs please!!

UMMM I would love to know what exactly happened with xnine too if you know??
i didn’t know how to answer this without hating on long danni but... that’s not possible when you’re talking about xnine
CORRECT ME IF I’M WRONG IN ANY WAY @ DIMPLES AND CFANS
tldr ceo addicted to producing survival shows realizes boy group is incapable of feeding her fat rabbit because of her OWN mismanagement and throws them away (literally? probably not, maybe, idk)
HOLY SHIT THIS BECAME RLY LONG IM BEGGING KEEP READING TO WORK LO LOL LOL
long danni= wjjw company ceo
wjjw=company that xnine, xz, r1se, etc are under
huo mala: fat company rabbit that WILL give u nightmares goodness gracious thinking about him sends chills down my spine
alright so long danni (ldn i will refer to her) & ee media along w/ tencent and sm made the survival show x-fire... the premise of xfire was that 16 contestants split into two different teams (white and red) and then at the end it would boil down to each team having 4 members and the winning team would debut as a group called xfire...but wait...the group’s name is xnine? so out of red team (peng chuyue, baishu, xiao zhan, xia zhiguang) and white team(wu jiacheng, gu jiacheng, zhao lei, and guo zifan) white team won...and they unofficially debuted as xfire..went abroad to train yadda yadda yadda and then a few months later, TELL ME WHY LONG DANNI DECIDES TO RELEASE POLLS TO LET FANS VOTE IN 5 MEMBERS INTO XFIRE TO CREATE XNINE! ldn PLEASE if u wanted to rig the show you should’ve decided in the beginning what was the point of making the teams and the fans fight against each other...
so yeah xz and crew weren’t actually supposed to debut according to show rules...i mean i’m glad they debuted obviously bc x9 is x9 but ee media and frickin ldn couldve handled this better...like every member except chen molerat is amazing and great but....WHY DIDNT MaNAGEMENT NOT BLATANTLY RIG THEM INTO THE GROUP
but also thank u ldn for also letting us get to know the 4 guys who were added n not chen molerat <3 but like DO UR JOB PROPERLY
anyway the polls were RIGGED obviously thanks ldn what did u expect out of making POLLS, and xiao zhan, peng chuyue, xia zhiguang, yan xujia, and chen z*** were added to the group to create xnine...talk about rigged when chen z*** the molerat lookin turdface misogynist was added... anyway at the time he wasnt known to be problematic but ya the whole rigging thing caused a whole rift esp when x9 debuted bc there were fanwars and death threats initially but xfire did well because it was one of the (if not only) survival shows at that time and x9 debuted w/ a good response etc
then they got moved to wjjw (still owned by ldn thanks ldn) and wjjw is known for hoarding artists and not promoting them (THEY HAVE LIKE 45 ARTISTS BUT WERE FORMED 3 YEARS AGO MAKE IT MAKE SENSE) and not being promoted properly was EXACTLY what happened to xnine. as idols what they needed was music promotions, variety shows, etc stuff to get them as people out there but this genius ldn decided to promote them through stupid zodiac dramas like super star academy (to promote xfire finalists) and oh my emperor (which was an xnine drama). now i haven’t watched OME, but SSA gave me enough brain rot and gunk for me to not watch OME. (the only person who could act was baishu), and the story was SO BAD. nevermind the acting, because the boys weren’t initially slated to be actors, but the story was horrible, girl without superpowers suddenly becomes white cult goddess at the end??? WHAT???????? why didn’t ldn just promote them normally !!!!!! are they an actor group or an idol group???? I LOVE XNINE, THEY ARE TALENTED ARTISTS !!!! and eventually some went into acting (xz, guo zifan, gu jiacheng) BUT WAS THAT THE TIME DLFNJNF and then they just kept getting sent into random dramas and movies as random side characters instead of being able to make music and promote????? i’m sorry i’ve been stuck on using dramas to promote x9 for a while because that’s such a SILLY IDEA *vigorously shakes head*
ldn knows how to do survival shows but she doesn’t know how to promote her artists thanks ldn. xnine has so much talented, we know xiao zhan is a great singer, but other main vocalists like wu jiacheng, zhao lei, and peng chuyue are amazing as welll, here’s me plugging this video of zl and pcy performing their self-written song on produce camp because it’s the most beautiful thing ever
-oh yeah somewhere in here insert chen molerat getting outed as a pedo misogynist cheater by his gf who still has the audacity to have xnine in his weibo name because xnine starting to get popular gtfo rat lookin ass i WILL barf, when we say ot8 xnine we mean xnine w/o chen toadratass but sometimes ppl think it’s xnine minus xz which is untrue-
they also have talented rappers (gu jiacheng yan xujia) and dancers (xia zhiguang guo zifan) like xia zhiguang can end me with his spinning flying kick thing and i WILL let him
so YEAH !! TALENT that went to waste because wjjw gave them weird random hiatuses and kept pushing them as actors??? seriously what is with this actor stuff...so that’s why they debuted in 2016 and have very little discography to their name because wjjw just gave up...trying to promote them GOD thank u so much ldn for ur incomptency <3333 xnine had members in diff stages of life (ranging from xz who was born in 91, to yan xujia born in 2001, they were all close tho soo cute) and wjjw really was like nope we’re not gonna try to promote yall’s dreams of becoming singers on the stage because they couldn’t add 34783473 pounds to fat huo mala’s weight
so ya a lot of people are like omg wjjw hates xiao zhan!!! ya no they hate all of xnine but now xz is bringing enough money to make huo mala even fatter so good for huo mala i guess /s
also rumors and any bad media? lol wjjw doesn’t care they do a shit job at handling bad things too WHAT A WELLROUNDED COMPANY
OH ALSO TALK ABOUT HOW THYE HAD 3 DAYS TO PREPARE FOR A CONCERT???????????? WHAT????????? wjjw u mfs
anyway to summarize my rants above wjjw did a SHIT job of promoting xnine as idols when the boys worked so hard and wjjw kept tryna push them to acting bye (some of them can’t act and literally don’t WANT TO ACT HHHSFLNF), wjjw is also horrible at letting all of the xnine members shine when as i mentioned before, they’re ALL TALENTED!!!! and then they just gave up on xnine somewhere in 2017-2018... ok anyway so is xnine disbanded? no although some may say their last concert in dec 2018 was their last concert ever they’re not disbanded
xiao zhan , gu jiacheng, and guo zifan went into acting
wu jiachang is focusing on his music etc (he was actually the first member of xnine i came across when i watched the collaboration/cyzj in 2018...yes carats this is That wu jiacheng!!!) MAN CAN SING
peng chuyue, zhao lei, xia zhiguang, yan xujia all went on produce camp 2019 (aNOTHER SURVIVAL SHOW BC THEY WANTED TO BE ON THE MF STAGE BC THATS WHY THEYRE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE WJJW) along w/ fellow labelmates zhou zhennan and zhai xiao wen ... and everyone but peng chuyue made it to the final 11 spots and got to debut in the group r1se...UNFORTUNATELY ALSO UNDER WJJW HELP SEND HELP
if they’re in r1se does that mean they quit xnine? no! they’re in both that’s just how survival shows work it’s kind of weird
peng chuyue recently released a song and it’s really good and you can’t not tell me that it’s gay here it is
anyway xnine hasn’t disbanded!! the X玖少年团 (xnine) in the non-r1se members’ weibo names say that loud n clear!!! and when the r1se members from xnine won produce camp 2019, they all made xnine signs SO XNINE IS ALIVE and they do keep in contact!!
why haven’t we seen blatant public interactions btwen xiao zhan and the xnine members? because some frickin annoying xz solo stans/xfx claim that the other members use xz for popularity (HELLO??????? IN WHAT WORLD DOES THAT MAKE SENSE HALF OF THEM R LITERALLY HIS KIDS BUT OK)
anyway in conclusion wjjw doesn’t know how to promote any of their artists, thus screwing over xnine members and making them go on a group hiatus where they focus on acting/singing/r1se for r1se members but they are very much xnine as of now !!!
here’s some REALLY GOOD RESOURCES to follow xnine bc as an ifan it’s mf hard
-xnine slideshow
-xnine faq
-xnine eng sub channel by yuer
-all of that content i listed above was made/subbed by one person and she is the queen of uhh...xnine international fandom outreach (????) how do i word it but she’s been subbing and spreading xnine long before xiao zhan’s popularity skyrocketed so go follow her for updates and memes here
-xnine intl fanbase twt and tumblr
-and here’s this twt account with dumb pics of xnine because why not
also i’m pretty sure there’s a wip video explaining x9′s history being created (by yuer because queen) so when that’s posted i’ll rb this and post it here
also here’s this video dragging wjjw

Boing Boing Charitable Giving Guide 2017 /Pls RT!
Here's a guide to the charities the Boingers support in our own annual giving. Please add the causes and charities you give to in the forums!
The Tor Project The Tor anonymity and privacy tools are vital to resistance struggles around the world, a cooperative network that provides a high degree of security from scrutiny for people who have reasons to fear the powers that be. From our early hominid ancestors until about ten years ago, humans didn't leave behind an exhaust-trail of personally identifying information as they navigated the world -- Tor restores that balance. —CD
Planned Parenthood Because we deserve health care, including reproductive, gender, and sexual health care. Because access to birth control and safe abortion is a human right. Because Trump's regime wants to destroy all of this. —XJ
Software Freedom Conservancy Software Freedom Conservancy does the important, boring, esoteric work of keeping the internet from tearing itself to pieces, playing host organization to free software projects like Git, Selenium and Samba (to name just three). The Conservancy keeps these projects legally sound and gives them a scaffold to hang their institutional structures on them. Without the Conservancy, the software you love and depend on would be in dire peril
Electronic Frontier Foundation I have been proudly associated with EFF for a decade an a half now and have watched, half-awed, as it grew from a scrappy, brilliant little organization to a powerhouse of enormous scale and power. Every cause, every fight enumerated on this page and in your life and mine will be lost or won on the internet. EFF is the best hope we have of keeping that internet free, fair and open. —CD, MF
Creative Commons Creative Commons is best known as a tool for sharing-friendly artists, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Since the beginning, and all over the world, CC has provided governments, agencies, research and scholarly institutions and NGOs with the tools to easily share across borders and the bewildering array of copyright laws. We can't beat trumpism without collaboration tools, and that includes legal tools. —CD
Wikimedia Foundation (Wikipedia) For 15 years, Wikipedia has been figuring out how to negotiate truth among diverse and even warring points of view. It's not always pretty and it's not always nice, but no one's yet found a better way to let ideas bash against each other until something everyone agrees upon emerges. It's not pretty, but compared to our democracy, it's a beauty queen. —CD
Human Rights Data Analysis Group For more than twenty-five years, the team at the [Human Rights Data Analysis Group (HRDAG)](https://hrdag.org/) has held perpetrators of mass violence accountable. They are a nonprofit, non-partisan organization that applies rigorous science to the analysis of human rights violations around the world. They provide unbiased, scientific results that contribute to accurate quantitative arguments. HRDAG's analysis brings clarity to the often confused narratives of human rights violence and support the movement for justice. One of their bigger projects for 2018 examines the growing use of machine-learning techniques in the US criminal justice system. At best, these methods reproduce existing biases in data. More often, machine learning amplifies the biases in the data and thereby exacerbates criminal justice strategies that disproportionately affect marginalized populations. Currently, they are working with partners at the San Francisco Public Defender's office and the New York Legal Aid Society to evaluate risk assessment tools being used in those cities. They are also analyzing how current bail practices may disproportionately disadvantage marginalized populations, in particular, lower-income defendants. Other ongoing HRDAG projects include research on mass violence in Syria, Colombia, Mexico, and more.
Institute for the Future There are no facts about the future, only fictions. As we've learned in this election, nothing is certain about tomorrow. But even as our attention is captured by the present, we can begin to write the story to come. A place to start is the Institute for the Future's Future for Good fellowship. Institute for the Future, where Mark and David are researchers, is a 50-year-old nonprofit that helps the public think about the future to make better decisions in the present. The Fellowship directly supports inspiring social innovators who are working to make tomorrow a better place. You can help too. Make a donation of $100 and you’ll receive IFTF Distinguished Fellow Bob Johansen's new book "The New Leadership Literacies: Thriving in a Future of Extreme Disruption and Distributed Everything." -DP & MF
The National Wildlife Federation National Wildlife Federation is a voice for wildlife, dedicated to protecting wildlife and habitat and inspiring the future generation of conservationists. Now's the time: the shortlist for our new Secretary of the Interior is reportedly Sarah Palin and Forrest Lucas, an "advocate of trophy hunting and puppy mills ... who never met a case of animal exploitation he wouldn’t defend." — RB
The Marine Mammal Center When seals, sea lion, or many other sea going pals need help, if they get lucky, they may be taken to The Marine Mammal Center, a veterinary hospital just for them. Thousands of heartbreakingly cute, but very wild, animals are rescued, rehabilitated and released on an annual basis. I'm a volunteer. In addition to the hundreds of highly trained volunteers that make the hospital run, the center always needs cash for fish and medicine. —JW
The Southern Poverty Law Center & the Anti-Defamation League The Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defemation League fight hate, teach tolerance, and help secure justice, and fair treatment for all. "There is no 'them' and 'us.' There is only us." --Greg Boyle —JW
Facing History and Ourselves Facing History and Ourselves is an international educational group that helps young people study issues around racism, antisemitism, and prejudice in history, from the Holocaust to today's immigrant experiences to the killing fields of Cambodia. Their aim is to teach young people "to think critically, to empathize, to recognize moral choices, to make their voices heard, we put in their hands the possibility--and the responsibility--to do the serious work demanded of us all as citizens." —DP
Free Software Foundation/Defective By Design The Free Software Foundation's principled litigation, license creation and campaigning is fierce, uncompromising and has changed the world. You interact with code that they made possible a million times a day, and they never stop working to make sure that the code stays free. —CD
Free Software Foundation Europe Software has eaten the world, and software freedom is increasingly synonymous with human freedom. In Europe, far-right parties and authoritarians are inheriting a constellation of gadgets and devices that are "defective by design," built to allow corporations spy on and control their owners -- and those thugs are contemplating how they can use those companies' extraordinary powers to put whole populations under their thumbs. Free software in Europe, free software everywhere! —CD
The Internet Archive: In an era where the control of information has been weaponized, the Internet Archive's mission -- universal access to all human knowledge -- is a revolutionary manifesto. The Archive isn't screwing around: they're siting a copy of their data in Canada to resist trumpian grabs and spying and redecentralizing the internet to save us all from tyranny. —CD
Open Rights Group While we were all fighting about Brexit, Theresa May's Tory government passed the most intrusive surveillance bill in the history of modern democracies. It's a longstanding joke that the gnomes of Westminster Village think that Nineteen Eighty-Four was a manual for statecraft, but the joke is getting less funny by the second. ORG is a decade old: spunky, going though a timely growth spurt, and badly needed. —CD
Amnesty International I just looked up Amnesty's founding principles and found tears rolling down my cheeks: "Only when the last prisoner of conscience has been freed, when the last torture chamber has been closed, when the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a reality for the world’s people, will our work be done." These values need our support more than ever. —CD
ACLU On November 9, 2016 ACLU changed its homepage to a picture of Trump superimposed with the words SEE YOU IN COURT. ACLU's deep bench of kick-ass lawyers has been lately augmented by a much-needed group of freedom-fighting technologists, welded into the fighting force we'll need for the next four years and beyond: from voter suppression to free speech, the ACLU is key to the fight. —CD, MF
Liberty With the UK plunging into surveillance dystopia where human rights are an afterthought and racial profiling is becoming official doctrine, it needs Liberty, an organisation with 80+ years' track record fighting for human rights in many incarnations of the British project. The Tories ran on a platform of repealing the Human Rights Act: when the government is officially anti "human rights," you need someone like Liberty to take the "pro" side. —CD
826 National Born in San Francisco’s Mission District in the back room of a pirate supply store, 826 National teaches young people the art and magic of creative writing through classes, DIY publishing projects, in-school programs, and drop-in tutoring at seven centers around the US. And it’s all free for the kids. Help open more 826 locations around the country! —DP
Fight for the Future Some of the Internet's savviest, hard-working-est activists. Fight for the Future is in all the Internet fights, kicking ass on Net Neutrality -- a fight that's back on in 2017, thanks Trump -- mass surveillance and justice for Chelsea Manning. -CD
Demand Progress Aaron Swartz co-founded Demand Progress, and as you'd expect from that history, they're relentless in reinventing the activist playbook for the 21st century. -CD
MySociety Software in the public interest -- it's a damned good idea. MySociety produces software like Pledgebank ("I will risk arrest by refusing to register for a UK ID card if 100,000 other Britons will also do it") and TheyWorkForYou (every word and deed by every Member of Parliament). It's plumbing for activists and community organizers. —CD

They use only name brand parts that have been raced tested in each of their categories to give you the highest performance. The bicycle are design crafted to give you the exact ride you demand. They are niche use models that excel in the category they were designed for. For over 30 years we've been designing and manufaturing bicycles unmatched in their performance, value and style. Jamis Bicycles. The Power of Design.
MAKE AN IMPACT Blame it on the economy and the accompanying back to basics mentality. Or praise public awareness of green issues and the value of low-impact lifestyles. But all of a sudden bicycles are a Very Big Deal. Everyday people--folks who haven’t been on a bicycle in years, if not decades--have suddenly rediscovered the thrill of cycling. For us, passionate cyclists who strive daily to deliver products that get people of all ages, abilities and aspirations to love bikes and biking just as much as we do, it doesn’t get any better than that. The bicycle is a marvelous invention, with an impact that is almost completely, one hundred percent positive. For individuals (exercise!) as well as for the environment (reduced carbon footprint). A bike is one of the world’s most powerful instruments for change. We know because cycling forever changed our lives, and we’ve seen it change the lives of so many others. That’s why we want to make cycling converts out of everyone, and that’s why there’s a Jamis for nearly every cycling arena, for almost any rider. It’s that passion for cycling and everything cycling can do that fuels and sustains our efforts to build the best possible bikes. It’s why we build category-defining superbikes that put professionals atop podiums at road races and mountain bike events. It’s why our computers are humming day and night crunching FEA data and carbon fiber lay-up simulations. It’s why we devote precious R & D resources to making even our kids bikes and cruisers as light and easy to ride as possible. And why our 2016 lineup is clearly the best we’ve ever produced. But we’re at this not just to build better bikes. We’re in this to build better lives, to make YOU better. That’s pretty heavy. It’s a lot to carry on two wheels. But that’s how powerful a bicycle can be. And that’s why we’re so committed to building the best bikes possible. When people ride bikes, good things happen. Experience it yourself, on a Jamis.

This allows lifting the 100 display bicycles off the floor to use the space for any events including spin classes, bicycle mechanics sessions and technical training to sales staff and visiting dealers. Why a hybrid? https://plus.google.com/b/111306895149620590933/+RBIncorporatedJamisBicycleCanadaToronto/posts/RprV1uUimoj These represent different options on a Hybrid. What is a hybrid? Mountain bicycle position with fast light thinner road wheels. Lighter then a mountain bike and faster but less durable if you hit big pot wholes and curbs. The DXT though acts more like a mountain bicycle with suspension forks and wider rims and tires but at a weight penalty. Great way to get to work and have some fun as well. We also have higher end Hybrids $800 to $2500: The more you spend on a bicycle the lighter its, the better everything works, and the more durable all the parts are so you will save minimum $300 on drivetrain parts with in the first 3000 kms. HYBRIDS WHY WOULD THEY BE THE RIGHT CHOICE. September 3, 2014 · by campagnolorider · in Bike Pictures. · Edit Hybrids have been around for the last 20 years and they are a great option for different types of riding. They are a mountain bicycle position but with Road wheels so they are lighter and faster then mountain bicycles. But they are less stable and less durable then a mountain bicycle so you have to be comfortable riding a bicycle. They come in many different forms some more upright and comfortable hence the comfort hybrid, a version in-between called a commuter hybrid finally a light more aggressive position called a performance hybrid and finally a dual sport off road hybrid that acts more like an off road mountain bicycle. When you go from a comfort hybrid to a performance hybrid the weight goes down because comfort and adjustability makes the bicycle heavy with springs, suspension forks, wider saddles. Comfort bicycles and the off road dual sport bicycles have wider tires and rims that work better on dirt roads, sand and trails but also make the bicycle heavier. The dual sport hybrid, on and off road version will be heavier as well but can get lighter if you get a hi end version with lighter parts. These are great as they have the ability to hit mud and off road trails but are lighter then mountain bicycles unless you get a hi end version which can also be light weight. When buying a bicycle its best to initially spend more because that equals: lighter, better working parts, more durable parts and materials and more performance. If you buy something low end it will cost you in the future because replacing the chain, freewheel, chainrings later is more expensive overall then spending that money initially on the bicycle and getting more durable parts. Plus all that riding time you have a better quality bicycle that works better and is much lighter. This gets magnified if you can find a late model discounting bicycle. WHY ARE ROAD BICYCLES FASTER THEN MOUNTAIN AND HYBRID BICYCLES? September 3, 2014 · by campagnolorider · in Bike Pictures. · Edit Many people come to are shop with the question: Why are hybrids and mountain bicycles so much slower then a road bicycle with drop bars? As a top pro triathlete I was always looking to make my road bicycle faster and physics are very important in this goal so here is a scientific explanation of why they are faster. There is a number of reasons the most important is weight balance and your butt. Your bum muscle is the biggest muscle in your body and when its stretched fully it will give out the most amount of power. In the drop bar position your bum which is the gluteus maximus is fully stretched and can give you the most amount of power at this position. The problem is this position is hard on your back neck and arms so you have to build flexibility and strength in all of these to get to this position comfortably. Other important feature is that a road bicycle has even weight balance on the front and rear wheels so the tire resistance is lowest when this occurs. That is why proper bicycle set up on a road bicycle should be 50 percent weight balance front and 50 percent weight balance on the rear. This will also allow you to go around corners with out slipping at the maximum speed. slightly moving your body upwards will give you more weight on your rear wheel so it will slip first and you can adjust your speed to not fall. Hybrids and mountain bicycles the more upright you are the more weight you have on your rear wheel which really slows down the bicycle. This also creates a lot of wind drag and slows you down the faster you go cause your body is acting like a brake. In the low aerodynamic road position your wind drag is at the lowest. This can also be created on a hybrid or mountain bicycle by bending your arms on downhills and straights to increase your speed. Some other smaller advantages are hi pressure thinner lighter tires on road bicycles so the drag due friction on your tires to the pavement is much lower making the bicycle more efficient and faster. Some bicycles have wide tires with aggressive off road treads that increase your rolling resistance are slow and loud but give you traction on sand, mud, rocks, and wet conditions. Road bicycles are much lighter and one can climb up hill because of this advantage. New road bicycles are aerodynamic and can save you wind drag but this is more important at hi speeds. If you want speed then go with a low road bicycle but you need flexibility and strength in your arms back and neck so lots of riding weights and yoga all help in that goal.
We also can sell your used bicycle: 1. Bring in your bicycle for a 15 minute professional photo shoot.

5. When we have an interested buyer for the bicycle then you have to return the bicycle back to us.

7. Once we sell the bicycle we charge an additional 20% of the sale.
8. If you decide to buy a Jamis bicycle we give you 7% off any new bicycle sale so you actually can get all your money back when you buy a new Jamis bicycle. http://www.rbinc-sports.com/consignment-we-sell-your-bike Mountain Bicycle wheel size 26, 27.5 (650b), 29”?
Advantages of 29”: 1. Easier to get over rocks logs. If your weakness is tough terrain even if you are short and or light then this might be the best choice. If your scared of tough terrain best choice! Great for beginner riders scared of tough terrain. 2. More surface area so better climbing on slick rock. 3. Lower rolling resistance so faster on roads and straight aways which is important if you have a long road ride before the trails. 4. Less chance of flats due to larger point of contact. 5. Quickest acceleration between trees and tight turns. 6. Really good for heavy and tall riders. 7. The wheel has lots of momentum so once you get it going fast you just need to keep it up to speed. 8. Because the bottom bracket is below the axles the bicycle is much more stable. 9. Great for fast downhill riding - lots of stability. 10. Perceived feeling of more stability because of the gyroscopic effect of large wheels with momentum.
Disadvantages of 29” 1. Longer wheel base so slow around corners. And tough through tight winding tree slalom trails. 2. Slow acceleration and deceleration. 3. More expensive then 26er bicycles. 4. Heaviest of the three so tough for long climbing. Not as bad if it is short climbs that you can keep your momentum up. 5. More expensive parts if you break a rim or spokes or have a flat tire. But having said that the whole industry has 29ers so this is becoming less significant over time. 6. Hi Stand over height so if you have short legs might not be the best choice. 7. Slowest on roads (if your light weight not a big issue). 8. To get them as light as 26” bicycle you have to spend a lot of money - carbon fibre. If you got the money then sometimes a great choice.
Advantages of 26” 1. Usually you can get a great deal on an older model so you get the best parts for the money. 2. Easily available parts if you are travelling and less money for them. 3. Best for short and or light weight riders. 4. Lightest of the three bicycles. If you run up steep hills with the bicycle on your shoulder then this is the best choice. 5. Low stand over height so good if you have short legs. 6. Best Acceleration of the three even though 650 is close so great on switch back, tight corners and through trees and slalom.
Disadvantages of 26” 1. Slow on roads and straights especially when you weigh a lot. 2. Bad traction uphill. 3. Worst over Rocks logs transitional riding. 4. Worst for downhill. 5. Slowest on straight aways and road riding. 6. Highest chance for flats. 7. Worst for stability.
Advantages of a 27.5 650b in the Jamis Line up. Jamis is the best to go with as they have the most experience and other lines have hi stand over height and geometry that is not fine tuned. 1. Same wheelbase so they are as quick around turns. 2. They are great to go over rock and logs almost as good as a 29er. 3. They have low stand over heights the same as 26”. 4. They accelerate around corners the same as a 26” bicycle. 5. Mid weight maybe a bit more then the 26” bicycle. 6. As your bottom bracket is below the wheel axles the bicycle is more stable then 26”. 7. Great on fast downhills. 8. Great choice even if your short tall or heavy. 9. Really the best choice of the three wheel size bicycles. Unless you are really tall and heavy or short and light this is the best choice.
Disadvantage of the 27.5” or 650 or 650b pretty much the same. 1. Can be expensive as it has been out for about 4 years. It is getting put in less expensive bicycles especially in 2014. 2. Parts can be harder to find then both 29 and 26” plus more expensive. Rim, Spokes, Tires and Inner tubes however less significant in the future.
Advantages of Disc brakes vs Cantilever brakes: * More braking power - Hydraulic brakes even more. * Moderate rim damage does not affect braking. * Not affected by rain or snow and mud. * Pads last longer and are easy to replace with no tools. * Brakes don’t go out of true when brake pads get thin. Cantilevers need re adjustments every time the pads get a couple mm thinner. * Less prone to fading on long down hills. * You can make the bicycle rims lighter weigh so less rotational weight. * You can build a wheel with super wide rims and huge tires. * Great if you want the ability to put bigger tires and flexibility with fenders on road bicycles. * Discs can bend but can be bent back easily with the right tool or even pliers if need be.
Disadvantages of Disc Brakes: * Heavier then cantilever. * More expensive. * Require specific hubs and disc brake mounting tabs on rear wheel and fork. * Sometimes squeak - Oil on the discs can make this occur. (This can be cleaned off) * Can be hard to set up initially. * Discs are vulnerable to bending when transporting the wheels separately from bicycle. * Disc brakes can interfere with Pannier racks and bags. * Some bicycle designs can be dangerous with front wheels coming off the forks. http://www.rbinc-sports.com/jamis-factory-outlet-store/toronto-internation-bicycle-show
