Prompts for AI-less Whumptober 2024
As promised, we're bringing you the official prompt list of AI-less Whumptober 2024 today!
We have 31 days of excellent whump prompts, with three prompts per day to pick from, fun themes, and 10 alt prompts to play around with. We hope you enjoy! Additional info + plain text versions of the prompts can be found under the cut.
FAQ and Rules
What sort of content can I create for this event?
You can create whatever you want (fic, art, edits, etc). Any fandom is allowed, as well as OC stuff. NSFW is allowed, but please tag your content accordingly! The only thing not allowed is AI-generated content.
Do I need to make 31 things to participate?
Oh heavens no! You can make as much or as little content as you like, skip days when desired, or combine prompts (so for example, write something that covers a prompt from day 1, 2, AND 3). You don't have to do the days in order either, go wild! To be considered a 'completionist', you only have to make sure that at the end of the month, you've covered 31 prompts from 31 different days, but whether you do that in 31 works or just 1 is up to you.
What are these alts about?
If none of the three prompts of a particular day are your cup of tea, you can swap them out for an alt prompt of your choice.
What are these themes about?
Just a little bit of extra fun for the mods. Like last year, we'll be handing out various badges for people participating in the event. A full list can be found here, perhaps there is a special badge or two for people who can't be completionists but who do manage to finish every single day of a specific theme ;)
How do I tag and is there an AO3 collection?
It suffices to tag your work with #ailesswhumptober for us to see and reblog it! Please also tag nsfw, since we'll be using that tag too. Tagging the day is optional but does help the mods along.
There is an AO3 collection to add your fics to here.
That should be all. If you have any additional questions, check our pinned or hit us up in the ask box. Or join our discord maybe, whumping can be a great group activity!

I have been tagged by @batrogers!!
1. How many works on AO3? 241
2. Total AO3 word count? 1.25mil. Almost to my 3rd AO3 anniversary :D (that's around 1,170 words every day for three years, not counting nonpublished words! Proud of that rate, even if it's slowing.)
3. Top 5 fics by kudos:
Status? about Four. I think this one hits the sweet spot for a lot of people: not too long, a bit angsty, but sweet.
so i admit that the mud didn't do much for me, about Hyrule. Actually the first fic I ever posted on this account, it's silly and I'm surprised to see it so high
incandescently happy, a post-LU happy ending. Posted little chapters every day for like a month which kept it in people's feeds so I think that's why it's so high
what is a stump supposed to do, a random Hyrule & Four one, honestly baffled why it's up here
Rise and Shine and Fall, my successful (by that I mean actually wrote and posted every day on schedule) Whumptober 2022 extravaganza compilation. I posted it all in one work, so it's higher than most other whump fics of mine, but there's a lot in it!
4. What fandoms do you write for? Zelda. In the past I wrote a tiny bit of Danny Phantom and a fair amount of FE3H!
5. Do you respond to comments? Always!! I admit to being SO VERY BEHIND right now, a couple months' worth. I'm trying to keep up on new ones, but I've had some beautiful wonderful readers going through my catalog and I can't always keep up!! XD
6. Fic with the angstiest ending: I don't write a lot of negative endings, so I think this badge goes to Counterbalance, my LU Darks AU. I'm actually fully in love with this fic, it's probably the best mix of silly and angsty I've ever written. It's full of what are essentially OCs but they're all my babies and I love them.
7. Fic with the happiest ending: incandescently happy, post-LU. The whole fic is essentially a fix-it ending, though LU doesn't have an ending yet. XD
8. Do you get hate? A couple silly comments trying to tell me I'm doing things wrong, but not really no! Oh, also can't forget the ask I got that was "Remember that Jesus is your first reader." I think that was meant to be passive aggressive but there's a chance it was meant like, genuinely? Not sure.
9. Do you write smut? Nah. And I don't plan to. Not my thing! Closest I get are vampire bites XD
10. Do you write crossovers? I swear I've done more but the only ones on my AO3 are a Vidow fic done in an original world (Nothing New Under the Sun (crystals, dumplings, jewelry)), and Blood-Sucker's Guide to High School, a Vidow retelling of a very fun vampire novel.
11. Ever had a fic stolen? Nope, but I did have one of my Vidow fake fic book covers stolen for someone's fake fiverr listing. Got it taken down with a DMCA but I was like, why
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Not to my knowledge.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic? Oh plenty. @enrolio and I spent most of 2020-21 lockdowns and beyond cowriting, mostly original stories (1.7mil) but a lot of fic, too (nothing published, but almost 400k worth.) We're currently in the process of working on a big epic original fantasy series, though that's a long-term project. @batrogers and I have done a few alt-POV-type projects too, which have been super duper fun!! Hope to do more.
In that vein too, I feel like the Bad End Links kind of qualify hereâso much of the characters and their stories were brainstormed collaboratively and so many friends have contributed details and fics and art, it feels like a fun group project! I've really enjoyed working on it. :D (the encouragement and hype for it also helps a lot!! I'm really hoping to finish this big project out!)
14. All-time favorite ship? Ahhhh a harder question than you'd think, tbh, even if you're limiting it to fic. I've written the most for Vidow, and they're definitely up there (same with Fourdow though I've done less with them.) I do have to admit that Linhardt/Byleth might take the cake, though. They were the first ship I was ever actually obsessed with, and the first romantic pairing I wrote in fic.
I just really adore Linny in general, and I love how the pairing continues and closes off some of the themes in the Crimson Flower route of FE3H. That's the only route where Byleth doesn't become archbishop-slash-dictator, and I think choosing to live life in a small cottage, not particularly contributing too much to the government, builds nicely upon the themes of becoming human and choosing your own destiny, themes that are really missing from the other routes.
15. WIPs you want to finish but doubt you ever will? My old AO3 account (a couple FE3H fics and not much else) has a series where I wrote the beginning of a fic and then had several different endings planned, each a different ship with Linhardt, but I only ever wrote one. I'd love to read the rest but I have too many other fics calling my name!
16. Writing strengths? Um... Volume and speed? Also AUs. I think I can call myself good at fitting characters into new settings. Also fight scenes are fun and I think I do them well.
17. Writing weaknesses? I feel somewhat weak in the plotting and style realms.
18. Thoughts on mixed language dialogue? You can't count on a reader to know not-tagged languages, so that has to be accounted for in the text.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Danny Phantom, in high school or maybe just after. That's late for a lot of fic writers but... there are reasons for that, and a different discussion!!
20. Favorite fic you've ever written? This is an extremely rude question, because I love so many for different reasons. I write things I want to read!! Counterbalance (for the tone) and Blood-Sucker's Guide (for the finished novel plot) are up there but I linked them above, so I'll take the chance to call out a different fewâMarvelous Misadventures is way up there, a Wind-focused modern with magic AU. I promise I'm still working on that last chapter (and the epilogue), I just gotta throw everything else aside one month and buckle down. Maybe June, I don't have any fic events planned and 06/23 was the last update. I think some earlier chapters need a refresh as well, once I have the ending written.
I'll also toss White Walls (medwhump, "non consensual body modification: the fic") into this category for how long it is and how proud I am to have finished even a collection this long, and a long walk, a Linked Nexus fic where I did so much math and had so much fun with it. :D

Alone || Brothers reunited
Previous
"The Governor, that's really what he's called?" Natalia asked Michonne as the car packed full of people drove down the road.
"Says its a nickname, acts embarrassed by it." Michonne said in a low voice.
"See, Nat, that's a nickname, so is Rick, y'know, for Richard. But the governor? No, does he tell anyone his name?"
"No."
"Interesting." Natalia sighed. "I mean, I wanted to be prime minister when I was 8, until I realised we didn't have those."
"Stop here" Michonne said, louder than their previous conversation.
Rick parked the car offside the road, beside the woods.
Everyone climbed out the car.
"They have patrols, we're better off on foot." Michonne told everyone.
"How far?" Rick asked. "Nights coming."
"It's a mile. Maybe two."
A lone walker was catching up to them.
"I got it." Natalia called out as the others unloaded the car, walking up to the undead woman and putting her down, wiping her knife on the woman's ripped and stained dress.
She caught up to the others into the woods, skipping past Daryl and Rick to walk ahead, she could hear them talking.
She pulled out her ponytail, brushing it with her fingers, before doing it back up, braiding it tightly with the other band around her arm, making sure it wouldn't cause an obstacle.
As they continued to walk, a small herd of walkers came out from the trees heading for them.
"Get down!" Rick hissed. "In formation, no gunfire." He instructed, heading for the closest one, slinging his machete through its head and kicking it down.
Natalia dropped a few, using a body to shove at another, causing it to fall to the ground.
"There's too many of them." Daryl grumbled as more came from behind, surrounding the group.
"This way." Rick pointed down a path, the rest following.
Natalia had missed the memo, taking down another before her arm was grabbed, being dragged backwards.
She went to stab the offender before realising it was Daryl.
"Come on." He told her, letting go so she could run on her own.
"Through there. Come on." Rick shouted, continuing to run through trees, heading for a cabin.
The five rushed to the door, rick pushing it open as they got inside.
"Get the door." He told Michonne, who was the last one in.
"Eurgh!" Natalia groaned, covering her mouth and nose.
"Keep it down. Keep it down!" Rick hushed.
"The smell, it's loud." Daryl picked up, also covering his mouth and nose as he looked around for the culprit.
"What the hell is that?" Oscar asked as they all looked down on something horrid looking.
"It's got to be a fox or what's left of one." Daryl guessed.
Rick shined his flashlight on it, revealing a dog.
"Guess Lassie went home." Daryl commented.
Pounding on the door started as the walkers reached the cabin.
In the darkness, they found a bed, blankets were piled high, covering what looked like a body.
Both Daryl and Natalia held knifes in case of attack.
Rick slowly reached for the duvet, yanking it back to reveal a man jumping out of bed.
"Ah! Who the hell are you?" He shouted when everyone jumped back.
"We don't mean any harm." Rick surrounded.
"Get outta ma house!"
"Okay, okay, okay, we will, but we can't right now."
"Now!"
"Shut him up" Michonne hissed.
"Get out, right now!"
"There are walkers outside!" Rick explained.
Natalia was getting agitated as the walkers continued to pound against the house.
"I'll call the cops!" He continued to shout.
"I am a cop." Rick tried to reassure the man, but it wasn't enough for Natalia.
She stepped towards the man on silent steps.
Rick continued to talk, seeing what Natalia was up to but kept his eyes on the man to not alert him.
"Show me your badge!" The man said, raising his gun up to Ricks face.
Natalia reached out, plunging her knife into the mans skull, letting his body drop to the ground, the gun he was holding, fired into the wall, causing a hole to appear in the wood.
"I thought you were gonna knock him out!" Rick hissed.
"I don't know how to do that, he was making too much noise, I panicked!" She admitted, throwing her hands up in surrender.
Daryl walked towards the door, checking outside.
"Remember the Alamo?" He asked.
"Help me with the door" Rick sighed, picking up the man, Daryl helping.
"You've got to be kidding." Oscar shook his head.
"He's dead. Check the back." Rick told him.
Oscar did as told, heading to the back door, as the two men held the man up so that Michonne could get ready to open the front door.
"Its clear." Oscar called out.
"One... two... three" Rick counted down.
Michonne threw the door open, Rick and Daryl throwing the body out and slamming the door back shut.
They all headed out the back door, sneaking around so that they didn't alert the walkers that weren't feasting on Natalia's latest kill.
It was night time by the time they reached the town, sneaking round cars to examine the area.
"Hey" Daryl whispered, sneaking up beside Natalia. "When we get back, gonna teach you how to put down someone without killing them."
"Why, if you need to put someone down, there's a high likely chance you don't need them alive." She shrugged.
"Cause that ain't always the case."
There was two people stood on top of the wall of tires, one stood by a big light that over looked the deserted road, and one paced.
The one stood by the light shortly stepped away, being replaced by an older looking man in a cap.
"We should just take them out, they just swapped shifts, so no one will be coming round for a while" Natalia whispered.
"No." Rick hushed.
Michonne snuck away, ignoring Rick calling her back.
"Damn it," He cursed. "Alright, we need to downsize."
"Ain't no way we're gonna check in all those buildings" Daryl said. "Not with all them guards there."
"That's why I'm saying we just shoot them down."
A twig snapped, alerting that Michonne had come back.
"Alright lets go." Rick said, following the woman.
"Why does no one ever listen to me." Natalia grumbled as she followed.
Michonne had led them through a hole into a building with shelves of food and tables.
"This is where you were held?" Rick asked her.
"I was questioned."
"Any idea where else they could be?"
"I thought you said there was a curfew." Daryl whispered, looking behind a curtain at a street full of people.
"The streets are packed during the day, those are stragglers."
"If anyone comes in here, we're sitting ducks." Rick said. "We gotta move."
"They could be in his apartment." Michonne thought out loud.
The three looked at the woman, Oscar continued to keep his eye out.
"Yeah, what if they ain't?" Daryl asked.
"Then we'll look somewhere else"
"How do we know this isn't just some ploy." Natalia accused.
"You said you could help us."
"I'm doing what I can." Michonne defended herself.
"Then where the hell are they?" Oscar asked.
"Hey" Rick whispered, walking away and nodding for everyone but Michonne to follow.
"If this goes south, we're cutting her loose." Rick told them.
"You think she's leading us into a trap?" Oscar asked.
"Feels like it, she's keeping something from us" Natalia said, getting an itchy feeling.
"Nah, right now its a blind leading a blind." Daryl mused. "Lets split up."
A knocking at the door halted their conversation, before it was being unlocked, a man walking through.
"I know you're in here" The man said. "I saw you moving from outside. Alright now. You know you're not supposed to be in here."
Natalia grabbed a jar from off one of the shelves, jumping up from her hiding place and away from the others, Rick tried to stop her but she was moving too fast.
"Sorry, its just me." She smiled bashfully at the man. "I was just grabbing some..." She looked at the label, reading horseradish. "Horseradish. I just ran out, but I didn't wanna bother you." She tucked her hair behind her ear, laying on the innocent act, thickly.
"Ah, thas alrigh' Darlin', but y'know, you can't be coming in here at late hours of the day, especially after curfew."
"Yeah, but I was just really craving Horseraddish, and it was all gone, and you know how it is, I'm sure you can let this stay between just us, right." She patted his shoulder.
"Say, how long you been at Woodbury?" The man said, seeming to not be able to recognise the woman.
"Oh, uhm quite some time now... y'know."
"I just, I don't think I've seen much of you around, and I couldn't forget a pretty face like that, maybe I should go see the Gover-â
Rick jumped up, pushing the man against the wall and raising his gun in the mans face.
"Shut up, get on your knees." The man did as he was told. "Hands behind your back. Zip tie him." He told Daryl.
"Where are our people?" Rick asked him.
"I don't know" The man shook his head, paling at the sight of a gun aimed at him.
"You are holding some of our people. Where the hell are they?"
"I don't know." He repeated.
"Open your mouth." Rick said, shoving a white cloth in the mans mouth.
Daryl whacked his crossbow against the mans head, knocking the man out.
She ignored the look he gave her as Rick dragged the man back into the building.
"Y'know I was dealing with it, right?" Natalia asked Rick.
Gunshots aired causing them to make up the decision to leave immediately.
Rick opened the door, sneaking out.
They headed towards to where the gunshots came from, sneaking around what looked like a warehouse of sorts.
The group hid behind a metal sheet, acting as a wall as they listened out to people walking around and talking, their weapons aimed in front.
"On your feet. Move" A man ordered.
"Shit." Rick muttered, him and Daryl pulling out Flash bang cannisters out of a bag, releasing them and throwing to where the people were walking towards, bolting the other way.
"What the hell was that?!" One of the people shouted out, the enemies ducked and coughed on the fog.
Rick led the way back in, his gun locked and loaded as he waited for movement.
They eventually found Maggie and Glenn, Rick and Daryl helped an injured Glenn stand as Natalia grabbed Maggie, leading her away.
The people shot into the clouded room, Daryl followed behind the group, shooting back.
They ran through the street, as shadows of people floated past.
"Inside, quick!" Rick hissed when they passed a building.
Natalia ran for the door, opening it and letting everyone else in.
The door slammed from the outside.
"Are you okay?" She asked the recently rescued pair, passing Maggie a cloth so that she could wipe the blood off Glenn's face.
"Aint no way out back here." Daryl called out, looking around the room.
"Rick, how did you find us?" Maggie asked.
"How bad are you hurt?" Rick asked Glenn.
"I'll be alright." Glenn struggled to say, clearly lying.
"Where's that women?" Maggie brought attention to the missing person.
"I thought Michonne was right behind me." Natalia said, not being able to locate her either.
Rick looked behind the curtain and onto the now busy street.
"Maybe she was spotted." Oscar suggested
"Want me to go look for her?" Daryl asked.
"I'll help." Natalia offered.
"No, we gotta get them out of here. She's on her own."
"Daryl, this was Merle." Glenn told the redneck.
"Who's Merle?" Natalia asked.
"Daryl's brother" Maggie answered.
"You saw him?" Rick asked.
"Face to face. Threw a Walker at me. Was gonna execute us.â
"So my brothers this "governor"?" Daryl growled.
"No, he's somebody else." Maggie replied. "Your brothers his lieutenant or something."
"He knows I'm still with you?"
"He does now. Rick, I'm sorry. We told them where the prison was. We couldn't hold out."
"Don't, no need to apologise." Rick patted his leg, moving to look outside again.
"I'm gonna kill this sick son of a bitch." Natalia grumbled, checking her ammo, she didn't miss how Maggie was wearing Glenn's shirt.
"They're gonna be looking for us." Maggie said.
"We have to get back. Can you walk?" Rick asked Glenn. "We got a car a few miles out."
"I'm good."
"Rick, we have to end this, before we give him a chance to start anything back at home, he clearly was desperate to know where we are." Natalia said gesturing to Glenn and Maggie.
"No, we need to get them out of here."
"Hey, if Merles around, I need to see him." Daryl told him.
"Not now, we're in hostile territory."
"He's my brother. I ain't-"
"Look what he did! Look, we gotta we gotta get out of here now."
"Maybe I can talk to him. Maybe I can work something out." Daryl was almost pleading.
"No, no, no. You're not thinking straight. Look, no matter what they say, they're hurt. Glenn can barely walk. How are we gonna make it out if we get overrun by walkers or this governor catches up to us? I need you, both of you." He looked between Daryl and Natalia. "Are you with me?"
"Yeah." Daryl nodded, but he didn't look all too happy about it.
"Nat?" Rick then asked the woman.
"But-"
"We'll come up with a plan when they're safe, right now, this is what we need to focus on."
"Fine, yes," She looked away, biting her cheek.
"Thank you, we have to get out of here, now." Rick said, heading towards the door.
Daryl grabbed another two cannisters whilst Rick and the rest stood by the door.
"On three. Stay tight." Rick ordered. "One, two, three." He threw the door open, letting Daryl chuck the cans out. "Let's go" He hissed.
As the group ran, someone on the wall caught them, shooting.
Rick and Natalia shot back, one of the pair landing a shot as he fell down.
"Behind you!" Daryl shouted as gunshots came from behind.
All four shot back, the fog blurring their vision.
"Go, go, go!" Rick instructed as they headed out of the gunfire.
"How many?"
"I didn't see!" Oscar replied.
"Don't matter. There's gonna be more of them. We need to move." Daryl said as he reloaded his gun.
"Any grenades left?"
Daryl nodded.
"Get 'em ready. We gotta gun it to the wall." Rick said.
"You guys go ahead. I'm gonna lay down some cover fire." Daryl offered, handing Glenn a fully loaded gun.
"No, we stay together." Maggie denied.
"It's too hairy. I'll be right behind you."
"Want some help?" Natalia asked him.
"No, you focus on getting these guys out of here." He said, and that's when she knew what he was up to.
Maggie shot around the corner.
"Ready?" Daryl called out, throwing the grenade into the street.
"Bomb!" A man shouted.
"Come on, move!" Rick ushered as they headed for the wall.
"Glenn!" Maggie cried out.
"You're clear!"
"Go! Keep going!"
"This way!" Oscar shouted, leading them behind a bus, he helped Glenn and Maggie onto the bus as the others shot back.
Natalia noticed that Rick had stopped shooting, seeming to be in a daze.
Someone had shot Oscar down as she was watching him watch the man.
"No!" Glenn cried out as the prisoner fell.
Rick shot the man down, heading for him, but Natalia grabbed his arm, trying to pull him away.
"Rick, let's go! Come on!" She hissed as Maggie continuously called out his name. "Rick, now!"
He eventually began running with her.
Maggie had tried to help Oscar, but it was too late, so she shot him in the end and hopped onto the bus.
"Daryl, come on!" Natalia shouted to him as Rick climbed up.
"Daryl!"
"Go." He called out to the pair.
He didn't give them a choice, Rick pulled Natalia up onto the bus as they fled.
"Damn it, Daryl." She cussed the man out.
She followed the others as they all ran back towards the car they hid behind to scope the place out.
"Come on, Daryl" Rick muttered.
There was a rustling in the bushes, out came an injured and bleeding Michonne.
She went to go help the woman when Rick aimed his gun at her.
"Where the hell were you?" He asked her. "Put your hands up. Turn around. Turn around!" She did as she was told. Rick took her sword out the sheath. "Get what you came for?"
"Where are the rest of your people?" She asked him, leaning against the cart.
"They got Oscar." Glenn said, his gun pointed at her.
"Daryl's missing. You didn't see him?" Maggie asked, her gun pointing at the woman as well, Natalia was only one who hadn't.
"If anything happens to him-"
"I brought you here to save them." She cut him off.
"Thanks for the help."
"You'll need help to get them back to the prison or to go back in there for Daryl. Either way, you need me."
Rick and Natalia had managed to come up with a plan after getting Glenn and Maggie, back to the car, keeping an eye on Michonne as well .
When they had snuck back in, Natalia was shocked to see that the brothers were in a pit, with walkers on sticks being thrown at them as they fought each other, the crowd shouting and booing at them whilst the man with an eye bandage watched, his men holding back a blonde woman.
Natalia aimed her gun, taking out a walker that was heading straight for Daryl, then she shot at a young girl in a hat, roughly around the same age as her two friends. Rick threw a smoke bomb in the middle as she shot at some of his men, sending them down as well. Rick then began shooting as well, at any figure they saw, whilst taking out the lights.
They hid behind a large dumpster as people ran past them, Rick shone a flashlight ahead, catching Daryl and who she believed to be Merle heading straight for them, Daryl snatched his crossbow off someone just before Merle hit him across the head.
"Daryl" Rick called out, as they passed them, also after them.
They got back to the busses.
"They're all at the arena. This way," The older man said.
"You're not going anywhere with us." Rick told him.
"You really want to do this right now?" Merle began kicking at a metal sheet on the wall.
"Come on, man." Daryl grumbled. "Rick, come on, we gotta go."
"Go." Rick told Natalia, as he kept look out.
Once they climbed through the fence, they were met with Merle bashing in the head of a walker with his metal stump, there was clearly a story there.
Natalia shot at a walker, Rick doing the same and Daryl hitting them down with his crossbow.
"We ain't got time for this." Merle shouted, running off.
"Let's go!" Daryl told the pair, following his brother.
"We could of ended this, I had a clear shot!" Natalia hissed at Rick as the four ran through the woods.
"No, we need to get out of here."
"We wouldn't have to rush to get away if he was dead!"
"Nat, lets go" Daryl told her.
"Why are you not listening!"
"Listen, sweetheart." Merle started.
"Who are you calling sweetheart" She glared at him.
"Hey, Nat, we need to get Glenn home safe before we do anything, okay, I don't need you going and running off."
"What, like Daryl did?" She digged.
"Hey, watch your mouth." He told her.
"God, you're all idiots!" She stormed ahead of the woods, away from the three men, keeping her gun high, just in case.
"That's right, keep on walking, give us a show." Merle whistled from behind her.
If he wasn't Daryl's brother, she would've sent a knife hurling at his skull, instead she opted to flip him off.
"Leave her alone, man." Daryl muttered to his older brother.
"You got a lil crush, baby brother?" He teased.
"No, but she just saved both our asses, so lay off."
The sun had risen when they reached the car.
"Glenn." Rick called out.
"Rick, Rick, thank god." Glenn said, his breath laboured as he got up from the ground.
"Now we got a problem here, I need you to back up." Rick said, showing authority.
"What the hell is he doing here?!" Glenn shouted, raising his gun the same time Michonne pulled out her sword.
Natalia watched the show, this wasn't her business, and she didn't even blame them for being mad, she'd known the man less than a day, and she already didn't like him.
"Hey, hey. Put it down!" Rick shouted, raising his own gun at the swordswomen.
"Woah, woah, woah."
"He tried to kill me!" Michonne stressed.
"Look what he did! If it wasn't for him-"
"He helped us get out of there" Daryl said. "Drop it."
"Excuse me? I'm pretty sure me and Rick risked our lives going back in there to rescue you from your little family reunion, if I remember rightly, he was punching the shit out of you." Natalia leaned off the tree.
"Hey, we both took our licks, man." Merle put his hands up.
"Jackass." Daryl said to the amputee.
"Hey, shut up."
"Enough." Rick shouted over everyone.
Michonne attempted to sidestep Rick, but he moved in her way.
"Hey, hey, relax" Daryl turned around, before facing the group.
"Put that down, now." Rick told Michonne.
"Hey, get that damn thing out my face!" Daryl told Glenn.
Merle laughed.
"Man, look like you're going native, brother."
"No more than you hanging out with that psycho back there."
"Oh, yeah, man. He is a charmer. I got to tell you that."
"Where?" Natalia asked, completely puzzled that people kept using that word for the man.
"Been putting the wood to your girlfriend Andrea. Big time, baby."
She heard that name before, when Carl was trying to name the baby.
"Andrea? Andrea's in Woodbury?" Glenn asked.
"Right next to the Governor."
Michonne stepped forward once again.
"I told you to drop that!" Rick shouted at her. "You know Andrea?"
She didn't answer, glaring at the man in front of the tree.
"Hey, do you know Andrea?" Rick repeated.
"Yep, she does." Merle answered for her. "Her and blondie spent all winter cuddling up in the forest. Mm mmm yeah. My Nubian queen here had two pet walkers. No arms, cut off the jaws, kept them in chains. Kind of ironic, now that I think about it."
"Shut up, bro!" Daryl told him.
"Hey man, we snagged them out of the woods. Andrea was close to dying."
"Is that why she's with him?" Maggie asked.
"Yeah. Snug as two little bugs. So what you gonna do now, Sheriff, huh? Surrounded by a bunch of Liars, thugs and cowards, and this lil killer machine over here." He winked at Natalia.
"Shut up!" Rick told the insufferable man.
"Oh man, look at this, pathetic." He continued to laugh.
"Merle. Shut up" Daryl repeated.
"Shut up yourself, bunch of Pussies-" Rick thwacked him in the head with his gun.
"Asshole" He mumbled to himself.
"That's the best thing you've done all day." Natalia sighed, ignoring that it was the morning.
They had left Merle by the tree, going into the road to talk things out.
Daryl was trying to petition that Merle come back with them.
"It won't work." Rick shook his head. His hands on his hips.
"It's gotta." Daryl said.
"It'll stir things up."
"Look, the Governors probably on the way to the prison right now. Merle knows how he thinks. And we could use the muscle."
"I'm not having him in the prison." Maggie refused.
"Do you really want him sleeping in the same cell block as Carol or Beth?" Glenn asked him.
"He ain't a rapist."
"Are you sure?" Natalia threw out there.
"Well his buddy is." Glenn said, ignoring the look that Maggie had given him, but it seemed like the two other men had taken his comment lightly, this gave Natalia even more fuel to want to kill him.
"They ain't buddies no more. Not after last night."
"There's no way Merles gonna live there without putting everyone at each others throats."
"So you're gonna cut Merle loose and bring the last samurai home with us?" Daryl asked.
"Michonne hasn't tried to kill us." Natalia defended the woman.
"She's not coming back." Rick spoke over the woman.
"She's not in a state to be on her own." Maggie said.
"She did bring you guys to us."
"And then ditched us." Rick pointed out.
"Yeah, to go give our favourite pirate a taste of what his miserable death will be like." Natalia commented.
"Least let my dad stitch her up."
"She's too unpredictable."
"That's right, we don't know who she is."
"Says the man trying to petition Merle to come back with us. If you send her away, I'll go with her, someone's gotta make sure she doesn't die."
"You're not going anywhere" Rick told Natalia.
"Merles blood."
"No, Merle is your blood." Glenn retaliated. "My blood, my family is standing right here, and waiting for us back at the prison."
"And you're apart of that family." Rick told Daryl. "But he's not. He's not.
"Man, ya'll don't know." Daryl looked over at his brother, who was gaining consciousness. "Fine, we'll fend for ourselves."
"That's not what I was saying." Glenn argued.
"No him. No me."
"Daryl, you don't have to do that." Maggie said softly.
"It was always Merle and I before this." He shrugged.
"Daryl, you don't have to do that." Maggie said softly.
"It was always Merle and I before this." He shrugged.
"Don't"
"You serious, you're just gonna leave like that?" Glenn asked.
"You'd do the same thing."
"What do you want us to tell Carol?"
"She'll understand." He nodded at everyone before looking away. "Say goodbye to your pop for me."
"Daryl, are you serious? Daryl!" Maggie tried to stop him.
Daryl continued to walk away, the three watching as Rick caught up to him, talking quietly.
He took his things out of the trunk, saying goodbye to Rick before walking into the woods to his brother.
"Hey, you can come with us too, princess." Merle called out to a scowling Natalia, wiggling his tongue around in his mouth. "Give ol' Merle a bit'a company at night."
"My name is Natalia, and you can both go fuck yourselves." She called back, the older brother laughed, but Daryl bowed his head, walking ahead as Merle draped his arm around his shoulders.
Everyone placed their belongings into the trunk, getting in the car.
Natalia chose to sit shotgun.

âMADNESS LOVEâ PART 2
*GIF NOT MINE*
You can find part 1 here.
Pairing: Jay Halstead x Reader
Warnings: None (if I need one let me know in my ask!)
Prompt: NONE
Word Count:Â 2,026
A/N: Hi guys! Like I said before, this is part 2 of 3 for this imagine. I loved this fic so much I couldât stop writing. I hope you liked it, like always if you like this, please like it and reblog it. This would be pin on my page so you can find it without problems.
The tears kept rolling down your face all the way home, you didn't bother to wipe them away when you met your neighbor in the lobby, asking you if you were okay. You weren't, you were holding yourself to not break down in the middle of the hallway, making a scene.Â
Your keys jingled while you opened the front door, your hands trembling; you shut the door behind you. There was some light coming from outside the window but mostly it was dark, and that's how you felt, as if somebody took the light inside you leaving you blind. You leaned you back on the door, your body sliding down to the cold floor, sitting there looking at nothing. A cell phone started ringing in the distance but you didn't want to move. Your eyes fluttered trying to focus in the dark, searching in your jacket for it, the screen on the phone glowed and illuminated your face, Jay's name showed up, and the killing pain came back to your chest just looking at his name, so you decided to turn it off.Â
God knows how long you were there until you decided to stand up and go to your room to take a shower, put on some pajamas and grabbed the bottle of wine that was in the back of your fridge taking it to your room. Jay's words echoing in your head, over and over again.
Did he commit to his job, to his Unit, that he was fine letting you go? His words were etched in your mind. Of course you understood the full situation, he was right; you were the new still, not a detective, but that wasn't what was hurting you, it was realizing how he believed you both could never say anything because your jobs were more important.Â
Somehow you fell asleep before finishing the bottle of wine. The clock on your nightstand began to chime, it seemed that you had barely fallen asleep. Your room was still dark thanks to the curtains but some rays of sun could creep in. You stretched out your hand to turn off the alarm, and at the same time, your cell phone began to ring, you probably turned it on again in the middle of the night, you were a cop and sometimes you did stuff automatically; you raised it a little to be able to answer.
"Hello?"
âHey Y/N, please donât tell me you were still in bed.â
Your voice was a little croaky when you spoke.
âUhm, no I wasnât. My throat feels weird this morning, so⊠yeah.â
Kimâs voice was joyful even on the phone, you turned to see the clock, in a bright green color it said â8:15 AMâ. You sat up immediately, moving the soft sheets wrapped on your body away while Kim was still talking.
â...So I called Kevin and we decided to bring you some donuts and your favorite coffee before the event. Weâre 10 minutes away.â
âFuckâ.
You murmured getting in the bathroom. Kim looked at Kevin a little concerned.
âSorry Kim, I spilled some water on the table but, uhm, yeah. See you in 10â.
Ending the call, you got in the shower, didnât even wait for the warm water so you screamed a little feeling the coldness on your skin. The fastest shower you ever took in your life, leaving you with only five minutes to get dressed up and do your hair.Â
You were in the final touches of your makeup when a few small knocks on the front door warned you of the arrival of Burgess and Atwater. Taking one last look at the mirror to put a smile on your face before one of them would notice something, you felt anxious and devastated and trying to hide it from officers and detectives required a lot of self control.
Both of your friends smiled when you opened the door, Kim was holding a little box with cartoon drawings of donuts on the top while Kevin was offering you a cup of your favorite coffee. All of you wearing uniforms.
âThanks guys, I barely ate something this morningâ.
You took the coffee from Kevinâs hand, taking a little sip before walking out of your apartment, closing the door behind you. The three of you were talking about random stuff all the way to the car and to the downtown, well, Kim was the one talking with Kevin, you were mentally preparing yourself to see Jay, it wasnât working at all.
âSo Y/N, Jay called me last night, which was a little weird if I have to admit, he asked me about youâ.
Kim was looking at you through the view rear mirror, you blinked a couple of times without saying anything. Why did Jay call Kim to ask her for you? You had no idea and that's exactly what you said.
âHonestly, I donât know. I was at home last night. Heâs weird sometimes you know that.â
âI know, right? He asked me if you were with me last night but we were at Mollyâs. Adam, Hailey, Kevin and I, we miss you by the way.â
Kevin looked at you, knowing something went wrong between you and Jay.
âWe invited Halstead to celebrate but he said he was busy filling some forms for Trudy after shift.â.
âWell, I donât know him so well. I think he prefers to be alone. Look, the press is here tooâ.
You passed some news cars, reporters were setting their cameras to get a better view. Jay hated this, he wasnât comfortable seeing his face on the paper just for doing his job and also Voight taught them that when his unit was formed, and everyone did almost the same.
You got out of the car after Kevin parked near the place. Hailey was the first who noticed you, she raised her hand and started to wave it. You smiled, Kim was doing the same and started walking towards her, Kevin patted your shoulder making you go slowly.
âWhat happened last night? Jay called me too, he said he was worried about youâ.
âWell, he doesn't have to do that anymore. Weâre doneâ.Â
âWait, what?â
Kevin stopped for a moment, that news caught him by surprise.
âY/N, are you sure of this? Donât get me wrong, Iâll support any decision you make, all the way, but I know your feelings. Working together could get harder.â
You nodded your head, you knew it. It was going to get hard in every possible way, seeing him every morning not able to steal a kiss from each other at the coffee room or staying up watching a movie with your head on his chest; suddenly a bunch of memories came back to your mind, you shook your head slowly, you gave him a side smile.
âKev, I got this. Iâm gonna be fine. Câmonâ.
You bumped his arm with yours while you reached out to Hailey and Kim, for a moment Hailey looked at you and nodded, Jay talked to her too. You nodded back to her.
A few moments later, Voight and Trudy joined you. In the place there were a small, but considerable, number of people but no matter how much you searched with your eyes, you could not find Jay. The coordinators asked you to take your seats, for obvious reasons the Intelligence Unit was in the front row, it wasn't until that moment that you could see Jay in his uniform, you had always liked the way he looked in it. However, he didn't seem very happy, he seemed calm but you noticed the pressure on his jaw, his straight shoulders and his gaze in front of him, but he wasn't looking at you.
He was sitting next to some superiors in the platform in front of you. The Superintendent stepped up to the microphone to start his speech, some photographers started to point their cameras to the people and then to the "big hero".Â
The ceremony wasn't too long, you all met in the back while reporters were asking now questions to some people. Voight was smiling, which was rare, while Jay was walking towards the group.Â
Adam was the first to talk, and like always, started to make some jokes.Â
"There he is, the super cop Jay Halstead. The man of the year!"
He padded Jay's shoulder, he had a shy smile on his lips. Uncomfortable by all the attention he was receiving.Â
"Thanks Ruzek, I think the cartel in Mexico didn't hear you".Â
Everybody laughed, including you. Jay looked at you for a moment, actually felt more like 2 seconds.Â
"Alright, let's go back to the district and back to work. We can celebrate later at Molly's".Â
Voight spoke and all dismissed to the cars, you went with Kevin again, this time Kim decided to ride with Ruzek, the awkward sensation was still there so she didn't want it to push it further and make you uncomfortable. Once inside the car, you kept quiet all the way, Kevin knew you were lying but he also knew how you dealt with a broken heart.Â
You went to the locker room and just arrived at the district, it was too damn warm to keep it all day, also it was used just for events like this. When you got to the door you spotted Hailey, she was putting her badge on her belt. You kept your head down, trying to avoid her, you greet her with a quiet voice.Â
"Uhm Y/N, can I talk to you for a moment?"Â
"Yeah, sure."
Hailey closed the door and crossed her arms on her chest, her cautious blue eyes looking back at you.Â
"Look, when Jay told me he was dating you, I told him it was stupid. Not worth it if your careers could be over just for a romance that could last just a few months".Â
You knew Hailey, she was a bad ass woman and probably didn't say it to her so often but you admire her. She was serious, she didn't like to play games when it comes to her friends.Â
"I'm sorry for telling you this, but that was before seeing how good you are together as partners and as a couple. I was scared for both of you because I love you and I care about you. I'm not on Jay's side or your side, left me out that but Y/N, it's not easy to Jay open his heart like he did with you. He doesn't want to lose you and I guess the only way he can control that feeling it's not letting anybody know about it. Forgive me if I was a little obtrusive".Â
You didn't notice there were a few tears on your cheek, cleared your throat to be available to speak but you failed at finding the right words, it took you a few seconds to speak.Â
"It's okay Hailey, but what about me? What about my feelings? I know Jay is right, we could lose our jobs but, why make me feel like his dirty secret?"
Hailey took a few steps closer, her blue eyes now looking sad.
"Of course your feelings are valid. Don't get me wrong, I have been in that position before and it's not easy. All I'm saying is, you shouldn't leave things unspoken, this stuff gets heavy later."
She hugged you tight, rubbing your back. You held her too, she knew what she was talking about, you never asked before 'cause she was very private but you believed her at anything she said.Â
After changing your clothes, you came back to the bullpen, nobody was talking, you sat at your chair and looked around; it seemed like everybody was tense for no reason. Voight was in his office and the unit was on some paperwork. You felt someone looking at you, directly. There was no need to look up, you knew Jay was looking at you from time to time. You havenât talked to each other yet, you needed to, but that wasnât the right place.

đâšcreate the illusion of hanging out with your mutuals tag gameâšđ
I was tagged by @perhaps-mr-collins-has-a-cousin Hello there! Stay healthy, friend!
are you a morning person?
No. Not in the slightest. Please do not chat/call/text me before I have drunk my coffee and it is past 9:00 AM.
ideal breakfast?
A soft boiled egg with a piece of toast.
favorite warm drink, and how do you take it?Â
A latte with nonfat milk
sit in the sunshine or the shade?Â
It depends on the time of year- if it is winter or spring, then sunshine. If it is summer, then definitely the shade.
favorite baked good?Â
The oatmeal butterscotch cookies that a friend of my momâs made when I was growing up
a song or album that makes you feel at peace?Â
Rain by BTS . I like jazz, and it really does feel like looking through the window outside at a rainy day.
a chore that if someone completed it for you youâd love them forever?
Folding and putting away the laundry. Luckily, Mr. Poppy does it, mostly, because if it werenât for him, it would just stay in the laundry basket in a heap.
favorite board/card game to play with friends?
Anything in the Rook/Euchre/Hearts/Spades family. I grew up playing Euchre as a regional thing, but Mr. Poppyâs family plays rook because they are from a different region.
what kind of snacks/candy do you want at a movie theater?
I normally like popcorn with lots of butter and a soda, but a giant roll of sweet tarts or sprees is good too.
bar with live music or bar with a pool table?Â
This is tough. I really like live music, but some of my happiest times were hanging out with friends around the pool table when I was younger. I am terrible at pool, but it was about being with friends.
go-to wine/cider/beer/cocktail?Â
If I am having cocktails Iâll usually order an amaretto sour.
go-to bar food?Â
Nachos with lots of stuff on them.
are you tending the fire, looking at the stars, or singing campfire/folk songs?
Looking at the stars. I love watching for meteors, and looking at constellations and (if Iâm far enough out of town) the Milky Way. But I will cheerfully do the other two as well! Iâve been to Wood Badge and OLS so Iâm pretty good at building fires.
a favorite Scripture verse or prayer?
The prayer by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, S.J., that starts: Above all, trust in the slow work of God. [I am a very impatient person]

Personal Tag Game
I was tagged by @raksh-writes . Hi there!
Last song: âLate Night Talkingâ by Harry Styles. I really like it- it is such an ear worm. Very excited to see him this fall!
Last TV show: Obi-Wan Kenobi. The cinematography is amazing. Meh on the storyline though. When I die I want Pablo Hidalgo to be a pall bearer so that the Story Group can let me down one last time. Will continue watching just for the visual spectacle!
Currently watching: Also watching Bride of Habaek/Bride of the Water God. The premise started off really well but then never panned out. Instead of the search for the missing stones (which sounded cool) itâs just the two leads moping for each other and the female lead bordering on rude to her employee. Maybe other people would enjoy this plot more, but it is not what I came for. I am only watching to the end because I hate DNFs. [I also have second hero syndrome because the first lead is kinda bland. This is one of Nam Joo-Hyukâs earliest roles so maybe he was just learning to act or the writers gave him boring material to work with]
Currently reading: Momo/The Life Before Us by Emile Ajar/Romain Gary. Itâs okay. Itâs better than some things Iâve read so far this year, but not the greatest. Itâs in the category of boyhood/apprenticeship novels. I hope it gets better? Iâm only 1/3 of the way through, and Iâm supposed to have it done by the end of today. đł
Tagging (but only if you want to play, as usual!)

how old is ash on yours auâs?
It really really depends and Iâm finding out that Iâm absolutely horrible at actually giving out somewhat concrete ages, barring a few Auâs.
Unspokenly Ash is usually around late 20 to very early 22, unless I did write down and post an age for him in what ever Au has it, but thats also more drabble and fillet based. That is⊠basically my standard and I really need to vocalize that more from the content that I do write him as younger.
Basically how it goes is that with each region he ages up a year. Spending his birthday at home with his mom and the Oakâs that are present at the time before going off on another adventure. This gets kind of tricky around Sinnoh because Ash stayâs there to take on The Brain. I have that written down that it takes 3 monthâs to even half a year. Which then putâs off the âsharing the birthday with mom and oakâ thing. This lands his birthday in the middle of his current journey at the time or a bit later like right before the league or a month before, if that makes sense. So in the end he comes home obviously older. Though I have been messing around and making the time in Orange Isles shorter to around 9 months instead of a full year.
Like hereâs a time table and Iâll keep both setâs of ages if I do mess around with Orange Isles time line and add it as concrete. It gets really complicated so if you want a little more explanation please donât be afraid to ask. I am also keeping the Brain Arc to half a year.
Starting age to finishing age *0/12 means how many months he is instead of a full year.
Kanto: 10 to 11
Orange Isles: 11 to 12 or 11 to 11 + 9/12
Johto: 12 to 13 or 11 + 9/12 to 12 + 9/12
Hoenn: 13 to 14 or 12 + 9/12 to 13 + 9/12
Sinnoh: 14 to 15 or 13 + 9/12 to 14 + 9/12
+ battling the Brain: 15 to 15 + 6/12 or 14 + 9/12 to 15 + 3/12
Unova: 15 + 6/12 to 16 + 6/12 or 15 + 3/12 to 16 + 3/12
Kalos: 16 + 6/12 to 17 + 6/12 or 16 + 3/12 to 17 + 3/12
Alola: 17 + 6/12 to 18 + 6/12 or 17 + 3/12 to 18 + 3/12
Galar: 18 + 6/12 to 19 + 6/12 or 18 + 3/12 to 19 + 3/12
I just want to say that typing all this out looks like one hell of a long ass math equation, kinda hate it and might change it later. But this is my completely basic format of what I use. Of course thereâs a lot of wiggle room as I write Ash starting around 20 to 21 in Alola and Galar. Heâs obviously going to probably spend more the one complete year in a region and less then another. The end of the league doesnât dictate when he stays and leaves. Theres also the months that build up between each âarcâ, another word I use to refer to his journeys, and to account the HC that some leagues start off at wildly different times then others.
Itâs literally just a pick-and-pull basket and just a large general target where Ash would be ages wise. As you see in the end the two different age lists end up being only 3 months part from each other. It really doesnât matter and Iâm mostly just playing around with it. Another note thats⊠vital isnât the correct word but Iâm use it is that I donât take Cerise Laboratory and the research assistant job into account. This is based off if Ash travels Galar to his normal standard with every other arc but Alola but I did keep the characters.
You didnât ask for this but I want to add in other traveling buddies and side rivals ages and how they are compared to Ash as well. Usually Ash is the youngest if not one of them up until Hoenn. With the exception of being exactly 24 hours older then Ritchie. And all of this have way to much detail but its making my ADHD brain go brrrr happily.
Heâs older than May, surprisingly, by like a month and a half but he doesnât realize that and mentally clocks that heâs younger than her because of how responsible and adult like she acts a good chunk of the time. Max is obviously the youngest while Brock is the oldest. The same thing kinda happens in Sinnoh. Heâs older then Dawn by a good year and a half to maybe even two years. Though Ash is younger then Paul and Barry by a varying few months between each boy.
Unova is where it changes a lot. Going from one of the youngest to one of the oldest out of his group of friends. Iris is drastically 3 years younger then Ash, making her around 12 at the start of the arc and somewhere around 13 at the end, and around 3 and a half with Cilan. This causes her to constantly pick against Ash because to her heâs older. Ash should be acting more like a seasonal trainer with known responsibilities and shouldnât be so excited about everything. Thatâs also an expectation that was subconsciously taught to her by Drayden when she was still in School in the Dragon Village. Virgil is actually the oldest being freshly turned 18 years old while Cameron is the youngest at 11 and 5 months. Stephan is like the closest to Ashâs actually age but also acts a lot more older and more adult like then he really is just by his laid back attitude. Bianca actually just turned 18 before starting her journey.
Age Note: the reason why Cilan is weird and awkward around Burgundy is not because of her short temper and brash attitude but because Burgundy just turned 13 years old. She is a legitimate child just like Iris, compared to Cilanâs 16 years and 6 months when the meet on the road for the first time and not at a connoisseur event. Her deep infatuation and how young she is really puts Cilan in a active land mine field. Unlike Iris who listens to him and actually talks, he has no clue how to interact with her. Burgundy isnât a normal gym challenger coming to his and his brother gym for a badge or even a normal crazed simple fan. As a gentleman at heart as well he raised to talk between certain age limits close to his own and this ends up making Cilan see Burgundy actually younger then she really is. Kind of like how Iris clocked Ash as a âkidâ when heâs obviously older then her and more experienced.
Kalos then thrusts Ash or being the oldest out of the main group but not as a whole. Bonnies around 8 while Clemont is 2 months and a half younger then Ash. This is where I struggle a lot in placing peoples based age in Kalos is actually because of Serena. I donât want to make her too young to which the point itâs weird and also I based the other contest girls ageâs around hers. But I also donât want to make her too old to the point that Miette, the oldest out of the contest girls no matter what, is older then Ash. The general consensus is that Miette is right in with Clemont and Ash age wise while Nini is the youngest out of the trio. So that places Serena around 13 to 14 while Nini is like 12 and 7 months. Sawyer is obviously just turned 10 while Trevor, Tierno, and Shauna are between 12 and a half to 13 and a half years old. Giving that easy bonding connection with Serena and Shauna while giving Miette a older more experienced vibe and the childlike wonder to Nini. Youâd think with Alain and all Ash would be the second oldest but your wrong. Ash is exactly 1 whole week older then Alain but, much like May, he doesnât know that and mentally clocks Alain older then he really is.
In comes Alola and this is again where I usually bump Ash up to 20 to 21 but for the sake of everything Iâm going off the basic target. Ash is obviously the oldest of the class by a good year on them alone though the classes collective smarts pushed them up different grades in school so thats how their together. Kiawe was the oldest at 16 and 9 months while Sophocles is still the youngest at 12 and 3 months, again bringing in the fact that the class is super smart and its based off intelligence instead of age like with every other class. Mallow is the third oldest at 16 and 2 months with Lana following on by at 16 and 1 month. Lillie is specifically around 15 years to 13 years and 4 months based off if I want her to suffer more as a older teen or as a child, literally her age is based off if I want to traumatize her more or not. Hapu is around 12 to 13 years old despite her obvious size and squeaky-ish voice. Acerola despite being very very mature for her age is only 17 years and 4 months old. Horacio is about Ashâs age at an even 17 years old when he and his lackies first meet Ash, Sophocles, and Kiawe.
Age Note: Horacio absolutely used his age as a card against Sophocles as many times as he could to the point it was so overused. This made Ash especially angry because he hated it when people used their age against much younger kids. Just because youâre older doesnât mean youâre right.
Then we reach Galar as our final stop. Ash is once more the oldest out of him, Chloe, and Goh but not everyone else. That would be Hodge at a straight 19 years old when he first meets Ash and Goh at the Battle Frontier Flute Cup. Chloe comes at 14 and a half years old with Goh just freshly turning 14. This makes Ashâs relationship more of a mentor type distant older brother thing. Those two actually donât find out about Ashâs age up until he and Goh get their letter so of recommendation and have to fill out the normal personal stuff. If you think Hop is close by in age with Ash then youâre wrong again. Heâs actually two days younger then Chloe making Hop around 14 and a half years old as well. Marine is 13 years and 9 months old. Bede is much more closer to Ash then the others at 16 years 8 months. For Leon, Raihan, and Sonia their still very much the same in a way. Leon is still the youngest at 20 years while Raihan is the oldest at 23, leaving Sonia in the middle at 21 and a half years old.
Age note⊠once more: this fits perfectly for the Kanto and Galar Trios as they basically get opposite of themselves in a way. Goh whoâs very oriented, loud, and on the go gets paired with marine whoâs very quite and shy for the most part and their going to subconsciously teach each other that its okay to come out of your shell or its okay to take a moment and relax. Hop is very much like Ash and Goh combined with the strategies and the none stop puppy own straight crack like energy and he declares himself as Chloeâs, whoâs silent and very critical and almost broody like itâs not quite there but itâs close enough, rival and is trying to teach her that battling is fun and okay and a lot of Pokemon like battling for those reason. Ash and Bede are the obvious choice for each other because once again Ash is very bright, happy-go-lucky, just sweet in general to everyone while Bede is completely broody, extremely sour, and just utterly rolling in his own image and being way to cocky.

Calm After the Storm Pt.2
And So it Begins
Iâm actually excited for this? like Iâm so nervous, but here we go! here's roughly 4047 words that ive written and agonized over for you Maribat lovers!
please let me know what you guys think!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marinette Cheng meets Richard (Dick) Grayson at the start of the tour of Wayne Enterprises. Sheâs outside, leaning against the tall form of Chloe Bourgeois, her best friend who had shot up like a damn weed in the past year, and trying her best to stay awake. While everyone else in the class had gotten to adjust to the time zone change, Marinette and Madame Bustier had gone over to the Martha Wayne Foundation building to settle the scheduling and award intricacies. She had also seen a photo of her biological paternal grandparents for the first time, which had been nice.
But today. Today was tiring and it wasnât even 8:30 yet. It was cold, which isn't helping her attempts at staying awake, even though she had on a newer, thicker outfit, bundled up tight to ward off the cold that was seeping into her bones and irritating her side. Damn Ladybug Effects
Marinette was trying her hardest to leech the warmth from Chloe while the two waited for Lila âOh, my ankle hurts, I must have twisted it!â Rossi to limp her way off the bus. The rest of the class and Madame Bustier were all behind the liar. Which meant Marinette was in the cold, and THAT was commonly known as a bad idea at this point. Chloe was huffing as she kept an arm wrapped around Marinetteâs looking ready to murder Lila. Listening to the Italian girls lies was a staple for their lives at this point, and Marinette couldn't help a sarcastic,
âAnd so it begins.â
Chloe snorted at that, wrapping her arm around her tiny friendâs shoulders, rubbing her back, before the blonde snarled at another shiver from Marinette, and just dragged the poor girl inside to wait.Â
Getting inside is a blessing, and as the warmth hits Marinette, she lifts her face away from where it was squished against Chloeâs arm to keep her nose warm.Â
Almost immediately, Marinette is digging through her bag for her small sketchbook to start jotting down ideas from the lobby alone. Chloe, on the other hand, starts fishing out the NDAâs the class had signed that morning from Marinetteâs bag, and begins flipping through them to make sure that everyoneâs was accounted for. The two girls settle into the couches by the entrance waiting for the rest of the class.
After a couple minutes, Lila walks through the door, (wow, her ankle is already better!), and smiles around at her surroundings, looking as if she just walked into a loved home rather than a building sheâs never been to. Her eyes light up as she smirks, before turning to her loyal followers friends, and though Chloe and Marinette canât hear what sheâs saying, they can imagine.
Madame Bustier frowns at the two girls on the seats to the side as she approaches the front desk, but is quickly distracted by the secretary as the two begin discussing the tour, and its itinerary. Lila and her group have navigated to the other side of the lobby, away from Marinette and her friends, thankfully, but are talking loudly, interrupting people as they enter the building. From the corner of her eye, Marinette can practically see Adrien frowning in hers and Chloe's direction, can practically feel his disapproval.
Just as she is finishing shading in a particularly pretty flower in a planter, one of the elevators to her right dings. A rather tall man steps out, straightening his tie, a clipboard tucked under his arm. He looks to be roughly 6â2 and is dressed in a white button down tucked into plain black slacks, with a nice pair of black shoes. He glances over at their loud wayward class before spotting Madame Bustier and heading over to the secretaries desk to join her. Marinette nudged her friend, who looked up from the NDAâs, adjusting the Miraculous on her head as she looked up.
âLooks like the tour is starting soon,â the bluenette is already standing, slipping her coat off to drape over her bag. Chloe eyes their classmates, as if debating whether or not they actually would be starting soon and if it was worth standing up, before sighing and giving in, getting to her feet.
âThen letâs go give Madame Bustier her paperwork, she seems a bit frazzled about it missing.â and indeed she did. Their red headed teacher was shifting through her bag at a frantic rate, clearly worried about something. Marinette shook her head. Madame Bustier had asked Marinette to collect the files for her, she should remember that her class representative had them. The teacher had been foisting a lot of responsibility on Marinette this trip. Already, Chloe had to step in and help her unpack her bags after Madame Bustier had sent Marinette to sort out the rooms of the hotel, and then dragged her to the MWF Building as soon as the small class rep had handed out the room keys to everyone else, and had helped with the NDAâs earlier that morning.
Marinette took the file folder from Chloe as they walked over and she waited patiently beside her panicking teacher for a moment, before clearing her throat to catch Madame Bustierâs attention, holding out the folder for her to take.
âOh, Marinette, thank you, I thought I had these with me!â Madame Bustier then spun around, handing over the folder, without checking inside, to the gentleman who had to be their tour guide. âHere you are Mr. Grayson, all the NDAâs, as requested! I must have left them on the table this morning!â she gave a charming smile before turning again, and hurrying over to the rest of her class to get everyone else's attention, leaving Chloe and Marinette with the tour guide.
As their teachers' voice rang out over her classmates, Marinette and Chloe shared a look between them. Chloe sighed as she followed after their teacher, and Marinette turned to the man beside her.
âBonjour, my name is Marinette Cheng, are you the tour guide for today MonsieurâŠ?â she smiled as she held out her hand which was quickly enveloped by his much bigger one,
âRichard Grayson Ms. Cheng! A pleasure to meet you, youâre the one who wrote the winning essay for the Martha Wayne Foundation right? Me and my family all read it! And yes, I am the tour guide today, weâre just waiting on your visitor badges, and then weâll be on our way!â Richardâs smile was nearly overwhelming, the amount of words coming from him more so, but that wasnât what had caused Marinette to freeze.
She hadnât looked at any photos of the Wayne family since she heard about Cassandra Cain-Wayneâs adoption. Sure, she knew what they looked like, but that had been several years ago. Marinette hadnât anticipated meeting her oldest adopted sibling so soon.
It was weird to talk with her brother Richard, without him knowing they were technically siblings. She shook the feelings off quickly, (years of an emotional terrorist did wonders for emotional control apparently) and allowed her smile to grow wider.
âThank you Mr. Grayson! I hadnât had much to do at the time, and the MWF scholarship to GU was worth the late nights! Iâm flattered that you and your family liked it so much.â a box full of visitor IDs and lanyards were placed in front of them, and Marinette shot the receptionist, Ms. Keanes, a quick âThank you!â before carrying them over to the class.
Chloe looked about ready for a nap as she watched over her class, all of them whispering to each other as Madame Bustier went over rules for the Tour. The red head seemed to be willfully ignorant of her class not listening as she spoke, and just smiled at Mr. Grayson as he and Marinette approached. Marinette shook her head as she began handing out the IDs, quick to snag hers and Chloeâs first, slipping both around her neck for the time being as Mr. Grayson began speaking.
She had to admit, her brother Richard seemed determined to give her class the best tour he could. He had notes and anecdotes on that clipboard of his, and he knew how to use them to get attention. Unfortunately, he just wasnât as captivating as Lila, who had begun to spin another tale of âOh, yes, I spent so much time in Gotham when i was younger that Iâm practically a Gothamite! Thereâs this amazing restaurant nearby, we should go there for dinner tonight!â
By the time lunch rolled around and Richard had gotten the class into the cafeteria, he seemed to have lost most of his determination. Most of the class pushed past him, not even listening to his explanation about the Cafeteria, and his shoulders slumped as he stared after them. Marinette, who had been taking notes about as much as she could, felt a bit guilty for how he was being treated. Chloe had pulled out her tablet about a half hour into the tour and began working on MDC Business, and while Marinette knew Chloe had been listening, she had been focused on her work.Â
âMr. Grayson? Iâm sorry for my classâs behavior, theyâre just, excited, to be in Gotham and havenât quite gotten it out of their systems yet.â Marinette reached out to tap him on the arm as she spoke, gently prodding him until he looked at her. She gave him what she hoped was a reassuring smile.
âI enjoyed the tour, thereâs so much to learn, and I canât wait to go to other floors after lunch! Iâve already jotted down several ideas in my sketchbook, so thank you!â
Richard smiled at her in thanks, eyes brightening a bit as he nodded at her, before fishing out his phone and turning away.
Marinette quickly linked arms with Chloe before walking into the large room, as she only needed space for her and Chloe, who had saved whatever proposal she had been going over as they searched. Once they found a good spot they went and joined the line for food. A few tables down from their spot, the class, who were back to loudly talking to each other and squealing about Lilaâs âchildhood sweetheart, I might be able to see him again! he took me to that restaurant I mentioned earlier as a date actually!â, and were all ignoring the looks that WE employeeâs were shooting at them. Madame Bustier all but collapsed on a table for herself, and put in earbuds as she ate.
Marinette shook her head as she and Chloe walked past, getting into line for the small buffet style lunch available. Other employeeâs were also entering the room, and while they did have an hour and half lunch, Marinette didn't want to wait too long and have to eat quickly. By the time the girls got their food of choice and sat down at the table they had spotted earlier, the line was quite long, and the rest of the class were at the end of it. They had a long wait.
Lunch passed in quiet, and for the most part she and Chloe just worked. Marinette on a commission Uncle Jagged had requested, one inspired by his hometown, and Chloe back to whatever she had been working on before. It was only interrupted by Mr. Richard Grayson asking to sit with them. He was picking at his food more than eating it, staring with furrowed brows at Madame Bustier and the rowdy class (It was an hour in and most of them had only just gotten food)Â
âMadame Bustier is of the opinion that theyâll settle down after today.â Her voice seemed to almost startle Richard, but he just turned to look at her, more confused as he asked,
âWhat? But, your class-â
âBustier is next to useless when it comes to interventions. She probably wonât do anything about their behavior for a couple more days.â Chloe didnât even look up from her work as she interrupted Richard, her scorn clear.
âChloeâÂ
âWhat, M? Itâs true and you know it! Sheâs treating this more like a vacation than a class trip.â This time the blonde glances over at the teacher, who still had her earbuds in. âSheâs not even watching her class! She hasnât looked up from her Audio Book since she sat down, Mari. I know we're all legal adults and graduated at this point, but it's still a school trip, not a celebration over Hawkmothâs defeat! We're in one of the most dangerous cities in America, the least she could do is check that all her students are behaving.â
Before Marinette could respond, Richard cleared his throat, drawing their attention to him before he asking,
âWhoâs Hawkmoth? What do you mean âcelebrate his defeat?â That makes him sound like a supervillain.â
Marinette and Chloe look at each other, before Marinette turns back to her brother the tour guide.
âThatâs because he was Mr. Grayson. How didn't you know about him? He terrorized Paris for four years? Mayura, his accomplice helped for roughly threeâÂ
Marinette knew it was due to a country wide media blackout and the French Government working with Parisâs governing body to suppress the news further to not put a damper on tourism, but surely something must have gotten out? After the JLE had decided to leave Hawkmoth to Ladybug and her team, she had figured they would at least issue a warning. Chloe chimes in with a tired voice, shoulders lowered and eyes blank,
âHe would take control of someone and transform them into a monster using their own negative emotion, and in return, all they had to do was get the Ladybugâs earrings and the Black Catâs ring. He did it by sending an Akuma, which is a corrupted butterfly, by the way, and they would possess an Item on the victimâs person. Ladybug and Chat Noir, and the others, had to locate and destroy the akumatized object so that Ladybug could purify it. There were normally 4 or 5 of them a week, though they got more frequent and powerful the month he was caught.â
âBut, Thats- We would have known about it!â Richard seemed horrified, âThe amount of damage that would have happened? Surely something would have gotten out!â
Marinette shook her head. âThat's the thing Mr. Grayson, part of Ladybugâs powers, was that she could summon something she needed for the fight. When it was over, she could use her âLucky Charmâ as it's called, to reset all the damage done by the akuma. The buildings got fixed, injuries healed, and many people who were killed were brought back.â She shared a small smile with Chloe,
âHawkmoth was defeated earlier this year, just after school started. The Miracle Court took back his and his accomplices Miraculous, and both were placed into custody. Last Iâd heard, Gabriel Agreste, Hawkmoth was given several life sentences, and Nathalie Sanceour, Mayura was in a high security medical facility for the damage her illness had done. The Court is staying active in Paris for the remainder of the year, but after, the JLE has asked them to either step down or leave Europe. They havenât announced what they're going to do yet after the year is over.â
Before he could question the girls further, looking rather sour at something, Chloeâs phone alarm went off, meaning they had 10 minutes to clean up. Marinette quickly fished her phone out of her bag, and opened up the BugOut blog. Tilting her screen so Richard could see, she explained as best she could about it as Chloe cleaned up the table.
âThis is the official Blog that was dedicated to Ladybug and her efforts. There's another one called the Ladyblog, but it's not the best anymore. Ladybug endorsed that blog for itâs professionalism and writing. Itâs not active much anymore, but itâs got a good archive of everything, if youâre curious.â
He had opened his mouth to ask more questions, but then he froze. Marinette had flipped to a photo that showed a comparison of the Teams, and his eyes zeroed in on it. One shot of the current Court of Miracles, Ladybug, Testudo, Byakko, and Cheval Joli, one shot from two years ago with Ladybug, Chat Noir, Rena Rogue, Carapace, and Queen Bee, and finally, one shot from the very beginning, of Ladybug and Chat Noir stood awkwardly in frame.
Marinette shook her head,
âLadybug and Chat Noir were the first, they were somewhere around 13 or 14 when they started.â
Marinette left him after that. She had garbage to sort out and a plate to return. The two girls waited at the same entrance they came in from, seated on the couches by the door, watching as the class got up at 3:00 on the dot, and left their plates stacked on top of the garbage cans like they were in a fast food place, not a famous Enterprises cafeteria. Madame Bustier and Mr. Grayson joined them shortly after, Mr. Grayson rubbing at his forehead as he walked up.
The second half of the Tour seemed to stretch on for a while. Marinetteâs side was beginning to go taught, and she could already tell that a massage and some painkillers would be involved in tonight's bedtime routine. She almost regrets leaving Tikki in their hotel room, the little goddess always healed her in little bursts to help with the pain, but Tikki had been just as tired as Marinette this morning, and the cold was affecting the little Ladybug Kwami harder, so she had left Tikki bundled up near the heater for the day. Besides, Chloe had hers with her, and Akumaâs werenât a thing they had to worry about. Marinette really hadnât seen the harm in letting Tikki rest for the day.
While Mr. Grayson (Please, Ms. Cheng, just call me Dick, I promise itâs my nickname, and I honestly prefer it) was watching the rest of her class, he had given up trying to keep their attention, and was basically just speaking directly to Chloe and Marinette, both of whom were paying attention now. The Business and Legal areas were something of great interest to the girls, as they were working together to maintain MDC, Chloe with the business side, and Marinette with the creative side/designing. The class behind the two girls, still wrapped in their own little world, completely missed the looks they were still getting from employees as they passed by workstations and offices.
The only time Madame Bustier intervened was when Alya had a particularly loud outburst, all but shouting out a loud âWHAT?? GIRL YOUR DATING DAMI-â before getting cut off by a sharp âAlya!â from the teacher.
But Marinette hadnât been paying attention to Lila, her side had escalated from tight to aching, and was now rubbing at her side as she walked, her notebook away and her arm linked with Chloeâs as she wrote, trying to focus more on what Dick was saying rather than the pain.
Of course, with how this bit of the tour was going, Dick had noticed. During a particularly âexcitingâ bit in whatever lie Lila was spewing, he quietly approached the girls.
âHey, whatâs up Marinette, (then in that case, please, call me Marinette âor Mariâ Or Mari, thank you Chloe) are you alright?âÂ
It was startling, to be honest. Beyond Chloe, no one really ever noticed when she was in pain. It took her a second to respond.
âYes, itâs alright, just, an old wound. It gets bad when itâs cold, and Iâve been walking a lot today.â
His worried eyes scanned over her, seeing how tense she was and how her hand didnât stop doing small circular motions around the left side of her waist, just below her ribs, He was frowning, and his body screamed concern.
âDo you need a break? Thereâs a break area on this floor.â His voice was soft as he spoke, but, even though she was tired, getting a break or special treatment now would mean dealing with Lila and Alya later, even if would help with the pain.
âIâm alright, besides, there's barely an hour left, and then we're getting on a bus back to the hotel, Iâll be fine,â Marinette smiled, (was this what its like to have a sibling?)
âAnd I already made her take some of the Advil she carries with herâ comes from the tall blonde next to her. Dick looks at them both like her wants to argue, eyes tight, before he nods.
âIf youâre sure.â
Apparently, they werenât taking a bus back to the hotel. Lila had convinced Madame Bustier to cancel the ride, and let them go to a nearby restaurant for dinner. Which meant the class would be walking back after. Marinette closed her eyes, rubbing at her side firmly as she listened to Lila, Chloe beside her, hip jutted out and arms crossed.
âMy Damiboo took me there for a dinner date, itâs where he confessed! Oh it was so romantic, I would love to go eat there again!â her simpering was painful, she was even holding her hand to her chest like she was going to faint, but her other arm was entwined around Adrienâs, and her current boyfriend looked more bored than anything as she described her âchildhood sweetheartâ As usual, the class was eating it up.
âOh, Lila! That sounds so romantic!â Rose had her head against Julekaâs shoulder, a dopey grin on her face as she imagined the two on a romantic dinner date.
Alya had turned to Nino with a quirked eyebrow and a sly smile, âWhy havenât you done that to me huh?â before turning towards Madame Bustier.
âPlease, may we eat there? Itâd make Lila so loved, and she says the food is great! Who better to show us the good places than an honorary Gothamite?â Madame Bustier had already been nodding, happy to appease her class.
âOf course we can, It's not a far walk from here at all!â The class excitedly began chatting, but before they could all set out, Chloe finally intervened.
âMadame Bustier, weâre not supposed to eat out on Mondays, shouldnât we head back to the hotel?â her words were met with silence, and she was quiet a moment, before continuing,
âBesides, Marinetteâs side is beginning to hurt, she nee-â
A loud snort comes from Alya, who rolls her eyes. She looks Marinette up and down, scowling before biting out,
âPlease, like she needs, anything! I canât believe you think she was actually hurt! Everyone knows that Marinette's a bully Chloe, sheâs just jealous of Lila, and lying for attention.â
It had been 2 years since she and Alya had been friends, but it still hurt when her old best friend said things like that. When Lila had threatened to take all her friends, Marinette hadnât believed her. But here she was, all her friends gone, and the only reason she had Chloe at all is because they hadnât been friends until Lila had everyone else on her side. Marinette and Chloe had sat together at the back of the class, and theyâre neutral âill watch your stuff if you watch mineâ had eventually become âwell now I'd die for you.â It was nice, having a friend in class again.
Lila, never one to miss a chance, hiccupped loudly before wrapping her arms around herself.
âI- Iâm sorry, I didnât mean to cause trouble, I jus-just wanted to b-be reminded of my Damiboo! I Havenât-t see-en him in so long!â By the end of it, she had full blown sobs going, and the class closed ranks around her, comforting her while glaring at Chloe and Marinette. Adrien was frowning at Marinette again, eyes almost furious as he glared, and Madame Bustier just sighed.
âMarinette, please, canât you see Lila needs this? Canât you take one of your Advil so that we can help Lila? Remember, All the Marinettes of the world?â
She sighed, closing her eyes and shaking her head, before agreeing. Chloe beside her started to protest again, but stopped when Mari put a hand on her shoulder.
âAlright Madame Bustier.â
âThank you girls! Alright, Lila!â Madame Bustier clapped her hands a couple times, catching the classes attention,
âWe're going to the restaurant!, Lila, why donât you lead the way? Iâm sure itâs lovely!â
Marinette was sure it was going to be hell.

If the Sun Comes Up - pt. 1
Apologies for the long A/N: This is the start of an AU fic inspired by this prompt & this prompt. It follows Amelia & Link, along with many others, in their first year as interns at seattle grace hospital. Thank you for sending character requests about this one! I settled on a few, but other characters are likely to show up later on as residents/attendings. Also, sidenote: this is completely an AU, meaning I just kind of grouped people together based on my interpretation of age (not that age really makes sense in the greys world anyways). This chapter is somewhat boring, basically just a set up for the characters and dynamic of the story. Thank you as always for feedback and prompts <3
In summary, the main interns in focus are: Amelia Shepherd, Atticus Lincoln, Maggie Pierce, Winston Ndugu, Jo Wilson, & Lexie Grey. The ship this focuses on is Amelink <3
_______
That's how it starts
We go back to your house
We check the charts
And start to figure it out
_______
(Hour 1)
âNo, no, no,â she mutters impatiently, hastily climbing out of her car, her jacket catching in the door as she slams it shut. âGod dammit, son of a-â
She tugs her jacket free and sighs in exasperation as she begins walking at a pace that could quite possibly challenge olympic level speed-walkers.
Amelia Shepherd was a lot of things.
Sharp. Cunning. Confident. Prepared. Most of the time.
But, throughout her lifetime, sheâd also been described in less elevating ways. Unpredictable. Impulsive. Irresponsible. She laughs bitterly when her mind settles on the last adjective, as she scurries through the doors of Seattle Grace Hospital.
Because she was a lot of things. And late for the first day of her surgical internship was now getting added to the list.
_______
âPierce, Lincoln, Wilson, Ndugu, Grey, Shepherd!â Chief Webberâs voice booms through the chaos of the crowded locker room. Interns begin stepping forward as their names are called. âPierce, Lincoln, Wilson, Ndugu, Grey, and Shepherd,â he beckons again, âYour assigned resident is Dr. Karev.â
Alex scowls intimidatingly as five out of his six interns approach him by the door.
âLetâs move,â he mutters, starting to walk swiftly through the corridor of the hospital while the interns trail behind him.
âI have five rules,â he stops walking suddenly, and the sound of halting sneakers squeaks behind him. âFirst ruleâŠâ He trails off, turning around to look pointedly at each of their faces. âThere are five of you here, whoâs missing?â
The group looks between each other in confusion, shrugging amongst themselves. Alex peers down at each of their ID badges.
âWhereâs Shepherd?â
More shrugs.
âWhereâs Shepherd?â He repeats, louder this time.
âIâm here, Iâm here!â Ameliaâs breathless voice chimes distantly behind the group as she jogs to meet them. She comes to a stop, huffing out a breath as she pushes strands of her long, dark hair out of her face.
Alex glares at her, arms folding across his chest.
âOkay forget the rules, weâre out of time,â He growls. âYou five,â He looks between those of his interns that were on time today. âYouâll be joining me in the gallery for a groundbreaking surgery.â
Thereâs excited murmurs throughout the group.
âIâm serious. The surgery youâre about to witnessâŠ.you will likely never see anything like it again. You will be silent. You will take notes. And you will not embarrass me.â
The excited murmurs turn to anxious nods.
âShepherd,â Alex continues, an evil smirk taking over his expression. Amelia gulps. âYour last name is not going to save your ass right now.â He laughs. âI have this dude whoâs taking up a bed down in the pit. He wonât stop throwing up. Heâs a junkie. Youâre gonna go clean him up, give him an IV, and send him home. And then maybe you can come find us.â
Amelia sighs, stepping forward slightly to defend herself. âAre you sure? Donât you think I should see-â
âI didnât ask for a response,â he interrupts her. âI asked you to head to the pit.â
Amelia blinks, her hands dropping to her sides in defeat. She watches as the rest of her intern class hurries off to witness a groundbreaking surgery without her.
_______
(Hour 8)
Amelia slowly shuffles through the dimly lit basement of Seattle Grace, following the sounds of her fellow internsâ voices.
âUgh, Atticus,â Jo laughs loudly. âCall him Link. I have never heard anyone call him Atticus.â
Joâs laugh echoes through the hallway and Amelia uses it to guide her.
âSorry,â Lexie giggles in defense. âItâs not like I knew that. Not my fault you all know each other already.â
Amelia finally approaches. And sees everyone sprawled out across the abandoned hospital bed in the hallway. The bed rests against a large window by the vending machines.
âWho all knows each other already?â Amelia huffs as she slides down against the opposite wall, settling herself on the floor and leaning her head back in exhaustion.
âEveryone, apparently,â Lexie responds as she takes a bite of a granola bar. âMaggie and Winston went to Tufts together. Jo and Link did the same undergrad program, and even worked at the same restaurant. Iâm the loner here.â
âWell,â Amelia mumbles, eyes closing as her head rests against the wall. âIâm a loner with you, then.â
âYeah, except for the fact that youâre a Shepherd,â Lexie laughs.
âAnd youâre a Grey!â Amelia bites back playfully. âWeâre in the same boat here.â
âWait, youâre a Grey?â Maggie gasps, practically choking on the handful of chips sheâd just consumed. Winston leans forward, concern crossing his features as he rubs Maggieâs back. She slowly gets a grasp over her coughs. âYouâre a Grey, too? LikeâŠ.Meredith Grey?â
âYeahâŠ.Iâm her sisterâŠ.â Lexie frowns. And Maggieâs eyes go wide. âWhatâs wrong with being a Grey-â
âIs everyone here somehow related to an attending or resident?â Jo interrupts, rolling her eyes in disbelief. âWhat in the nepotismâŠ.â
Maggie settles back in her seat, her eyes still wide as Winston watches her. Quiet falls between them all and Amelia resumes her previous position, eyes coming to rest as she leans back against the wall. She listens to the voices among the group as the conversation picks back up.
âI heard that every year, they pick the most promising intern on the first day to scrub in on something.â Jo announces. Ameliaâs adrenaline kicks in a little bit at this information, but she keeps her eyes shut.
âDuring our first shift?â Lexie gasps.
âMhm.â
âNo thanks,â Lexie mutters. âIâd definitely screw something up.â
âI might ask Karev about it,â Amelia can hear the smirk in Joâs voice. âTry and get a leg up on it.â
âNah,â Link cuts in. âDonât do that. Whatever happens, happens. You wanna be a shark about it?â
âOkay, Mr. âgo with the flow.ââ Jo laughs. âThat kind of attitude is not going to get you anywhere.â
The comfortable silence that fills the hallway again makes sense. It reflects everyoneâs current exhaustion.
But then a question gets voiced, and it takes Amelia a moment to realize that the question is directed toward her.
âHowâd your patient in the pit go?â
Ameliaâs eyes snap open as she searches for the face that voiced the question. Her eyes land on Linkâs bright-eyed and sympathetic gaze.
âIâŠ.didnât end up discharging him.â Amelia mutters. And she watches as Link raises his eyebrows at this information.
âKarev is not going to be happy about that.â
âHeâŠ.uh,â Amelia sits up, bringing her knees to her chest as she explains. âThe patientâŠ.heâs not a junkie.â She outwardly cringes at the word. âItâs not withdrawal. Itâs something else.â
âWhat makes you think that?â Jo inquires doubtfully.
âHis symptoms,â Amelia mumbles, somewhat self-consciously. âTheyâre not withdrawal symptoms.â
âMaybe Shepherdâs right,â Link offers, a kindness to his voice that surprises Amelia. She expects him to be more arrogant. Or maybe a little full of himself. Just based on his looks. But, everything sheâs heard from him so far, has been nothing but positive.
âYou going to tell Karev you didnât discharge the guy?â Jo questions.
âI am,â Amelia responds matter-of-factly. And the hallway grows silent again.
âI could just take a nap right here, right nowâŠ.â Winston eventually mumbles out.
And thereâs a general hum of agreement. Before the quiet moment is interrupted by a chorus of pagers going off.
_______
(Hour 12)
They finally get a lunch break. And by the time it comes around, Amelia isnât even hungry. After being vomited on in the pit all morning, her appetite is completely diminished.
She walks through the hallway towards the cafeteria and sees Maggie walking a few feet ahead of her.
âHey!â She catches up to her.
âHey,â Maggie smiles. âYou grabbing lunch?â
Amelia just groans, shaking her head. âNot after the morning Iâve had, no.â
Maggie gives her a sympathetic look before she stops in front of the bulletin board outside of the cafeteria. Amelia watches curiously as Maggie pins a flyer to the board, then she reads the posting.
âYouâre looking for roommates?â Amelia inquires, slowly becoming more animated as the idea settles in.
âYeah, I have three rooms to fill in my apartment. My other roommates moved out but I want to re-sign the lease.â
âUm, wow,â Amelia is stunned by the obviousness of it. âOkay, me? I will be a roommate.â
They continue walking towards the cafeteria and Maggie turns to her, giving her an incredulous stare.
âWeâre in the same intern classâŠ.â Maggie frowns. âWeâre going to be around each other literally 24/7âŠ.you wouldnât actually want toâŠ.live together, too?â
âI would,â Amelia persists. âIâmâŠ.crashing on my brotherâs couch right now,â she mutters, embarrassed by the confession. âI would quite honestly rather live anywhere else.â
âI barely know you.â Maggie exclaims in disbelief.
âSo! Iâm great. Iâm...Iâm the best. Best roommate ever. I promise you wonât regret it.â Amelia grins hugely, wiggling her brows, trying to sell herself. And Maggie laughs, shaking her head.
They sit at a table, and Maggie unpacks the lunch sheâs brought with her.
âReally,â Amelia tries again. âIâm a clean person. I do the dishes...most of the time. I pay rent on time. Always. And Iâm fun, and-â
âOkay!â Maggie laughs. âOkay. YouâŠ.youâre overselling it now. You can have one of the rooms.â
âYes!â Amelia loudly squeals, and the outburst makes heads turn throughout the cafeteria. She quickly pipes down. âSorryâŠ.you wonât regret it.â
Maggie just shakes her head, taking a bite of salad.
âSoâŠ.â Amelia speaks up again after letting Maggie get a few bites in. âWhat do you have against Meredith Grey?â
And similar to earlier, Maggie almost chokes on her food again. She slowly works on swallowing her bite of salad before she speaks.
âI donât have anything against Meredith Grey,â she mutters.
âHa,â Amelia laughs sarcastically. âYour eyes just about burst through your head earlier when you found out Lexie was related to her. Whatâs up?â
âItâs a long story.â
âHey, weâre roommates now. Spill.â Amelia folds her arms across her chest, leaning back in her seat.
Maggie glances around the room before she leans in, beginning to speak softly. So softly Amelia almost doesnât hear her. âI came hereâŠ.to Seattle GraceâŠ.I applied for this internship because my birth mother worked here. She was kind ofâŠ.like a legend here.â
âOkayâŠ.â
âAnd I didnât think Iâd actually land the internshipâŠ.â
âOkayâŠ.â
âAnd then I got the internship andâŠ.and I didnât think Iâd actually see her, or be working with her-â
âWho? Your mom?â Amelia interrupts.
âNo,â Maggie breathes. âNoâŠ.Meredith.â
Amelia just frowns, still not understanding how this ties together.
âEllis Grey is my birth mother.â
And now itâs Ameliaâs turn to choke on her food. Except sheâs not currently eating anything. So, itâs more like sheâs choking on air as she grips the edges of the table in shock.
But before she can voice her surprise, Winston approaches the table, sitting down to join them. And Amelia breathes out a huge breath. Glancing at Maggie and miming the motions as if sheâs zipping her mouth shut.
Winston definitely notices the strange energy, and he looks between the two in confusion.
âIâmâŠ.â Amelia pipes up. âIâm going to go check on my patient in the pit. You two enjoy lunch.â
Amelia stands up, winking at Maggie mischievously, before heading for the door.
_______
(Hour 16)
16 Hours in and Amelia finally decides itâs time to eat something. Sheâs been on her feet all day, running labs and doing scut work for Karev. The patient she was supposed to have discharged earlier, is currently waiting on the neuro consult sheâd ordered. So it feels like the perfect time to take a small break.
Sheâs been so busy, sheâs barely even thought about food. Her stomach rumbles loudly as she makes her way back through the dimly lit basement, seeking out the vending machines she knows are down here. She could have picked any of the vending machines in the hospital, honestly, but sheâs chosen this route because she likes the quiet, and hopes to have a moment to herself to unwind.
She rounds the corner, letting the subtle hum of the vending machines bring her comfort. But the moment doesnât last.
âHey, Shepherd!â
Amelia jumps, clutching a hand to her chest as her eyes settle on Link, where heâs once again sitting on the abandoned bed in the hallway.
âShit, you scared me.â She exhales shakily.
âSorry,â he smiles, then turns back to the textbook in his lap.
Amelia walks past him, continuing towards the vending machines. She considers the options in front of her, before deciding on a granola bar and an energy drink.
âYou kind of stole my idea,â she mumbles as she turns around to face him.
âHm?â he looks up from his book.
âI was going to come down here, and be all quiet and alone for a minute,â she smirks.
âWell, great minds think alike, I guess?â He laughs. âYou can sit.â
Amelia gazes up at him through a pointed stare, biting the inside of her cheek as she weighs her options. She truly had been seeking a peaceful moment to herself before she realized Link was down here.
âAnd I can be quiet,â he adds, watching her think it through.
But she decides. She gives in and climbs onto the mattress, resting her back against the wall. She yawns hugely as she settles in a comfortable seated position, legs outstretched in front of her, mirroring Linkâs current position.
âThose arenât very good for you, you know,â he smirks, nodding towards the energy drink in her lap.
âWhat are you, a doctor or something?â she bites back sarcastically.
âTrying to be.â
Amelia smiles, popping open the drink and taking an exaggerated first sip. Link just shakes his head at her, turning back to his book.
Amelia sighs a few seconds later. âIs it just me....or do you feel like you have no idea what youâre doing?â
Link turns his head to the side, lifting his eyes from his book to her tired expression.
âI get that.â
âI mean,â Amelia lets her head roll to the side too, in his direction. âI was top of my class at Harvard. I really thought Iâd have an impressive first day.â
âYouâŠ.were late this morningâŠ.â Link stifles a laugh, squinting at her.
Amelia rolls her eyes. âYeahâŠ.not off to a great start. Youâre right.â
A moment later Link slams his textbook closed, muttering something about trying to squeeze in a nap while he can. He leans his head back against the wall, letting his eyes shut.
âOh, come on,â Amelia mutters playfully. âSleep is for the weak.â
âSleep is extremely important,â Link responds, eyes still closed. âAnd Iâm not sleeping, Iâm just resting my eyes.â
Amelia laughs under her breath. âSure.â
âReally,â he continues. âResting your eyes? Feels fantastic. You should give it a try.â
Amelia doesnât respond to this, instead taking another sip of her drink.
âAfraid youâll fall asleep?â Link inquires a moment later, opening his eyes to glance sideways at her.
âNo. I can rest my eyes without falling asleep.â
âSure.â
Amelia watches as he resumes his previous position, his eyes slipping closed as he rests against the wall.
âIs this some sort of competition?â She mutters.
âIâm not competitive.â
Heâs smug, Amelia thinks, as she stares at his restful expression. She sets her drink on the windowsill behind her, and lets her own eyes come to rest. It feels good to close her eyes. Way too good.
A moment later she hears Link whisper âI told you.â At least she thinks thatâs what she hears. Her consciousness is beginning to slip away from her. And itâs hard to pull herself out of it, or to even think about separating exhausted imagination from reality.
When Linkâs pager goes off several minutes later, his eyes shoot open. The sound of it doesnât even cause Amelia to stir. He turns to look at her. Her long hair covers half of her face, but he can tell by the pattern of her breathing that sheâs fallen asleep. Link smiles to himself, deciding not to wake her. She had initially come down here seeking a moment to herself, and Link was going to let her have it. His pager beeps again and he stands up, quickly on his feet and moving through the hallway.
_______
When Amelia eventually wakes up, she has no idea how much time has passed. The first thing she notices is that sheâs alone now. Linkâs abandoned textbook sits open next to her. Itâs much darker in the basement now, with less light coming in through the window. She frowns, checking her pager.
And thatâs when she notices the red blinking light.
Signifying her pager is dying. Or needs new batteries. Or something. She doesnât know. Itâs her goddamn first day and she has no idea how this works.
She curses to herself, springing up from her seat and practically running towards the stairwell.
_______
By the time she reaches the pit, sheâs completely out of breath. Her eyes scan the ER, trying to locate her patient from earlier. The patient she was supposed to have discharged. But instead of following Karevâs orders, she had called a neuro consult, because she knew that the case was something more. And now, as she stands in the ER, she completely regrets her decision to venture off to the basement and wait for a confirmation page from neuro. That decision was currently biting her in the ass.
Because now her eyes settle on the current situation.
She watches as Karev begins transport of her patient. Her mouth drops open, stunned as Karev kicks the hospital bed into movement, beginning to transport her patient to the OR. She grows even more stunned as she watches Link grab the rails on the other side of the bed, moving with Karev towards the elevator.
âWait,â she steps forward. âWait! Thatâs my patient, what-â
âNot anymore,â Alex growls. âItâs a tumor, Shepherd. No longer your case.â
âRight,â Amelia keeps pace with them. âIâm the one that called the neuro consult. I knew it! I knew that-â
âShepherd-â
âThatâs my patient!â
She stumbles backwards a bit as they navigate the bed to enter the elevator. She makes eye contact with Link as she watches them step into the elevator.
âLike I said,â Alex mutters, pressing the elevator button to the OR floor once theyâre settled inside. âNot anymore. Maybe answer your page, next time.â
Her shock turns to anger as she holds eye contact with Link, and Karevâs words settle in.
âBeds 1-4 need stitches, can you manage that?â
The elevator doors come to a close and irritation flashes through her hot and fast. Because Atticus Lincoln, mr. âI'm not competitive,â had just stolen her patient. Tricked her into falling asleep and then stolen her surgery.
_______
She tries to suppress her anger as she does scut work for the next few hours. As the time passes, she focuses on her bedside manner, and tries to improve her suture technique. Her anger subsides, and it gets replaced with disappointment. Mostly disappointment in herself. Because this was nobodyâs fault but her own.
This was a surgical internship at one of the top hospitals in the country. It was allowed to be competitive. They were allowed to be sharks.
By the time she discharges her last patient in the pit, sheâs feeling a lot of things. The feeling that stands out the most though, is the exhaustion.
_______
(Hour 24)
Amelia basically moves on autopilot as she exits the locker room, shrugging her jacket on and moving through the hospitalâs corridor.
Her eyes feel heavy and all she can think about is going home and immediately going to sleep.
Her anticipation is interrupted, though, when she sees Link walking a few feet ahead of her. She stares at the back of his head, trying to remember any of the angry words sheâd had for him earlier. But sheâs just so tired, and sheâs drawing a blank.
He comes to a stop in front of her, pausing in front of the bulletin board just outside of the cafeteria. Amelia slows her pace as she watches him read something on the board, and then heâs ripping off part of a flyer.
She catches up with him, not managing to walk slowly enough to avoid him completely. He notices her approach and almost instantly, a remorseful expression takes over his face.
They fall into step with each other. And Amelia clears her throat.
âWill you at least tell me how it went? With the tumor?â
Link nods sheepishly. âHeâs in recovery now. The other Dr. Shepherd, who Iâm guessing is your brother?â Amelia nods. âHe removed it all, no problems.â
âThatâs good,â Amelia mutters.
They approach the exit, and Link holds the door open as they make their way into the parking lot.
âI didnât mean to steal your surgery, you know,â Link speaks up again, his tone apologetic. âI justâŠ.answered the page.â
Amelia smirks.
âDonât feel bad. If you want to be a shark, be a shark.â
Link genuinely looks conscious-stricken at her words.
âIâm kidding,â Amelia adds. âIt was pretty much my fault.â
Link looks down, crumpling the paper heâd taken from the bulletin board, and twisting it in his palm.
âWhatâs that?â Amelia inquires.
âRoommates wanted,â Link exclaims, smoothing out the paper and reading the brief description.
Ameliaâs face falls.
âNo,â sheâs laughing now. âNo way.â
âWhat?â
âYou canât be one of our roommates.â
âWho is âourâ?â Link frowns.
âThatâs Maggieâs ad,â she laughs. âAnd I already claimed a room, so I get a say here.â
âWell I think Iâm going to inquire with Maggie,â Link smirks. âI just so happen to be looking for a new place right now. So, I kind of feel like I was meant to see this,â he holds up the paper.
Amelia sighs.
âIâll get to her first,â she mumbles, beginning to turn towards her parked car. âAnd give her my input.â
The sun is starting to come up. 24 hours since the last sunrise. 24 hours since the start of their first shift. Amelia gazes up at the sky, grateful that itâs over. But grateful that it happened. Grateful to have the first day under her belt.
âShepherd,â Link interrupts her thoughts. âI think Iâll be getting to Maggie first.â
âHuh?â She turns to him, and notices how heâs started walking in the opposite direction.
She catches up to him.
âWeâre going to Joeâs,â he states, as Amelia steps into pace with him. âThe bar across the street. Apparently itâs open 24 hoursâŠ.but thatâs on the down-low.â
Amelia halts, coming to a standstill.
And Link frowns, slowing to a stop when he notices her hesitation. âJo, Maggie, Winston, LexieâŠ.everyone, I mean. To celebrate a successful first shift?â
Ameliaâs heart sinks. She hates this part. Hates having this conversation with anyone her age.
âI donât drink,â she admits, clawing her palms with her fingernails as her arms drop to her sides.
âOkay,â Link says simply. âThey have food there, right?â
She has to question whether sheâs heard him right. Because she was waiting for the âwhy not?â For the confused stare. Or for the uncomfortable chuckle. Which he offers none of. She was so prepared for the interrogation, that his reaction actually stuns her a little.
âOr music?â Link adds, when he realizes that Amelia is stuck inside her head a little. âFood. Or music. Or games? Shepherd, I know I said Iâm not competitive, but thatâs a whole different story when it comes to darts-â
âOkay,â she finally breathes, trying to hide her smile.
âOkay, youâll come?â
Amelia nods, starting to walk again. Link catches up with her and she guides them towards Joeâs. They cross the street just as the sun comes up.

Mastering Game-Based Training: 11 Tips from 1Huddle
Ready to level up your training using games? Hereâs a list of 11 tips to consider when crafting a game-based training program your people will love.
1. Get Crystal Clear on Goals
First things first, know what you want to achieve. Set those learning objectives in stone and make sure every aspect of your game is geared towards crushing those goals. Defining clear goals ensures that the training program aligns with the desired outcomes, making it more effective and targeted.
2. Make It User-Friendly
Ainât nobody got time for clunky interfaces or confusing instructions! Keep it simple. A user-friendly design enhances the overall experience and ensures that participants can focus on learning rather than navigating a complex system.
3. Stay Flexible, Stay Nimble
In the fast-paced world of business, things can change in the blink of an eye. Build your games with flexibility in mind, so you can adapt and evolve as needed. Flexibility allows the training program to stay relevant and effective even as organizational needs change.
4. Gamify Like a Boss
Points, levels, badges! Use these gamification tools to inject competition into your training. Gamification not only makes learning fun but also motivates employees to engage more deeply with the material.
5. Make it Stick
Keep your content relevant, keep it updated, and make sure to vary the type of games from time to time. Consistently refreshing the content ensures that employees remain engaged and continue to learn new skills.
6. Feedback is Your BFF
Donât leave your people hanging! Make sure to get in there and react to all the feedback your team leaves you. Feedback loops are crucial for continuous improvement and for addressing any issues promptly.
7. Make Accessible to Everyone
Everyone in your organization, from FOH to BOH, should have access to equal training opportunities. Ensuring accessibility promotes inclusivity and allows all employees to benefit from the training.
8. Data is Key
Dive deep into those real-time insights to see whatâs working, whatâs not, and where you can fine-tune for maximum impact. Data-driven decisions help in optimizing the training program for better results.
9. Always Be Tweaking
Keep listening to your players, keep iterating, and continue to build games your people will love. Continuous iteration based on user feedback ensures that the training remains effective and engaging.
10. Rewards
What is a game without a prize? To maximize the impact of these games and truly get your people engaged and competing on the leaderboard, tie a reward/prize to every game. Rewards boost motivation and encourage employees to put in their best effort.
11. Tie it Back to Business
At the end of the day, your game needs to serve a purpose. Whether itâs boosting sales, delighting customers, or keeping your team happy and engaged â keep those business goals front and center. Aligning the training program with business goals ensures that it contributes to the overall success of the organization.
Simple, right? With these 11 tips from 1Huddle, youâve got all the keys to build a rockstar game-based training program. Game on!

Imagine:
The reader having an office fling with Erik/Work Hubby
Warnings: SMUT
Itâs gonna be two parts because itâs really long and detailed to start. LIKE & REBLOG

You wake up on a Monday morning after enjoying your short weekend to start another 9-5 workweek. Even though a part of you wished that you could work from home another part of you wanted to go into the office so you could see Erik. Your work boyfriend. On Saturday you got your hair done in some knotless box braids, went to the spa, and did a little bit of shopping for some new office attire. Today you decided to wear some of that office attire. Nude wrap skirt, a mauve colored wrap top with bell sleeves and some So Kate pumps in a nude color. Your boyfriend and Erik shared the same name but instead, your boyfriendâs name was spelled with a âCâ, not a âKâ. That boyfriend in question was a personal trainer and vlogger who traveled to try different restaurants mainly in Cali and NYC. He took a two week trip to NYC with a group of his guy friends. You were used to it and grew not to care so much about it. He was living his life to the fullest.
But were you living your life?
Working as a Secretary for an Environmental Technology company that makes billions of dollars gave excellent pay. The money is good but the only thing to look forward to is your gossiping friend Regina who sat in a cubicle directly next to you and Erik, the Lead Environmental Engineer who was also a Biomedical Engineer. Heâs charming, witty, mesmerizing, attractive, hardworking, can be very headstrong at times, loves ramen, and has a cat named Paws. Erik with the âKâ has you blushing whenever he locked eyes with you, stuttering while you both have random conversations during tea and coffee breaks, texted you funny memes during meetings when you were supposed to be taking notes, instant messages you from his cubicle computer to bug you saying things like:
-Wyd big head?
-Did Eric with the âCâ see you leave the house today in that short ass skirt?
-Connie keeps talking to me with her funky ass breath. Help me đ„ș.
-So, when are you going to boss up and get an office? I wanna be next to my work bae.
-You wanna get lunch together? My treat. Itâs a surprise.
-I know you and Regina are gossiping about me đ.
-I missed you after work yesterday.Â
Heâs also the reason why you stayed later on Wednesday and Thursday nights. You would help him brainstorm ideas about improving pollution and what he should say in his speech about global issues such as climate change. He even asked you if you wanted to come with him to Alaska to test the water there but you hadnât given him an answer yet. You really really wanted to but being alone with Erik wasnât such a good idea. You were afraid to be in another location besides LA with him for reasons youâd rather not admit to.
After making Erik and yourself an egg white and veggie omelet with a Belgian waffle you headed out the door and to your Prius. Arriving at the office on time, you badge in and take the lobby elevators up to the fifth floor. Stepping off of the crowded elevator, you walk towards the newly decorated staff lounge to put away the food. It was 8:25 am and Erik wouldnât be in for another ten to fifteen minutes. The lounge had Dunkin Donuts laid out and freshly brewed coffee. You fought the temptation of grabbing a chocolate glazed donut to go to your cubicle and boot your Mac desktop computer so you could check your company email. You said Goodmorning as you walked by. Regina was playing Candy Crush on her cell when you arrived.
âGoodmorning, Gina.â You placed your Chanel bag behind the desktop computer in your cubicle.
âMorning, sis,â Regina tapped away on her phone, âDid you sleep okay?â
âBetter this time around, yes,â You flipped your box braids over your shoulder while leaning back in your office chair to talk to Regina, âI havenât heard from Eric all weekend.â
âWhich one?â
You pursed your lips, âYou know which one.â
She laughs, âErik with the C. Whatâs up with that?â
You shrug, âDonât know and donât care. He acts like he canât answer my calls or texts so I can check up on him so Iâll act like he doesnât exist.â
Regina gave you a knowing look, âIâm sure you and Erik with the K, aka Captain Planet, texted his work bae, Miss Y/N, all weekend long.â
You bite your bottom lip to fight a goofy smile.
âSee,â Regina crosses her dark chocolate legs, âheâs not just your work bae. Heâs Daddy.â
âStop!â You throw a pen at her chest, before lowering your voice, âErik and I are not having sex, Gina. We may flirt and text outside of work-â
âAnd during work hours,â Regina interjected.
âLike I said, we are not having sex-â
âWhoâs not having sex?â
Regina and your head turned to stare up at Erik Stevens. He had his briefcase in one hand and a black coffee with extra brown sugar in his other hand. Tailored suit colored navy blue with gold cuff links. Burberry dress shoes on his feet. Vintage gold-plated oval eyeglasses over his onyx eyes. He gave Regina and you a teasing smile. The smile where he raised one corner of his mouth to reveal a single deep dimple.
âY/N,â Regina answered with wide playful eyes.
âOh?â Erik gave Y/N a mournful look, âDamn, ma. Thatâs too bad.â
You glare at them both, âI will ignore both of yâall the rest of the day if you keep fucking with me.â
You got up from your seat, pushing in your chair, and tried your best to ignore the snickering from them both. Walking away, Erik was right on your tail, his hand reaching out to grab your shoulder to stop you.
âCalm down, itâs all jokes,â he licks his full lips, âBut seriously...no sex between you and your man?â
Groaning, you walk into the lounge to grab the food.
âWhy are we having this conversation?â
âBecause Iâm concerned,â Erik turned his back to lean against the counter with his arms folded over his chest, âYou know you can talk to me, right?â
You place his food inside the microwave to heat, âI know. Itâs just embarrassing, Erik.â
Erik grabs your chin to make you stare at him instead of the microwave, âDonât even give me that excuse. Remember, we shared a lot of embarrassing stories in this office after hours.â
How could you forget?
âYeah...itâs boring, Erik. Iâm sure youâre having the best sex of your life in your fancy penthouse. Probably having orgies with models and actresses. They love a sweet and caring guy,â Y/N said sarcastically.
Erikâs tongue grazes the inside of his cheek to stop himself from smiling, âWhy orgies specifically?â
âIs that all you focused on?!!â You shove him before taking his food out, âgosh, I hate you.â
Erik takes a swig of his coffee, âwhich is girl code for gosh, I love you,â
You shook your head with a grin, âleave me alone.â
âWhich means, give me attention,â Erik grabs both of your shoulders, before bringing his head around to plant a kiss on your cheek, âI know yâall female dictionary like the back of my hand.â
Your head turned to face him after his lips caressed your cheek. Now, that area was warm and ticklish. Erik grabs his food and walks over to one of the tables. That gave you some time to breathe and heat your food as a distraction. Why did he have to kiss you? Itâs not like heâs never done it before but every time he did it, Erik made you melt and wish it were your lips instead.
âYou make some bomb food, girl. I think Iâm jealous of Eric with a C.â
âSays the guy who makes the best shrimp and grits I have ever tasted besides my grandma,â you take a seat in front of him. While you ate you watched him cut into his waffle covered in syrup. His long lashes curled each time he blinked and his lips were so pouty and kissable whenever he concentrates the way he does. You felt like a schoolgirl watching him eat.
âSo,â Erik chews his food some more before talking, âAlaska.â
âWhat about it?â You play it off by cutting your omelet up.
âY/N,â Erik raised his brow at you, âYou know about Alaska this is my fourth time bringing it up.â
âWhen is it?â
âIn a month,â Erik takes a swig of his coffee to wash down his food before leaning forward on his elbows to make you look at him, âitâs gonna be for a week, all paid for, a mini-vacay with skiing, Matanuska Glacier walk, and lunch, helicopter tour, cozy cabin...â
Erik tilted his head at you and smiled. You looked down at your food bashfully. It all sounded so tempting. You would love to go...
âI donât know, Erik,â you shake your head, âEric will be home and-â
âHow many trips does he take leaving you home?â
âMore than I can count,â you reply shamefully.
âExactly. I ainât tryna overstep but...â Erik left it at that and went back to his food. You slouch in your chair deep in thought. Erik has a point. Your boyfriend traveled whenever he pleased and didnât even ask how you felt about it once. You respected that he wanted to drop his career as a teacher to travel, eat, and vlog. Not once did he suggest taking you on one of his food journeys. You honestly felt left out.
You deserve some fun too.
Moving your food around with your fork, you finally come to a decision.
âIâll go.â You spoke softly as if you couldnât believe youâd just agreed to it.
âSeriously?â Erik asked with his eyes unblinking and on yours.
âYes,â you let out a breath, âIâll go to Alaska and have some fun for once. I havenât been out of town in so long itâll feel good to go.â
Alaska with Erik Stevens. For an entire week. Just you and him. Your knees shook under the table.
âSee,â he smirked while stabbing a piece of omelet with his fork, âItâs crazy how I had to ask your ass four times total to come with me.â
âWhy is that crazy?â You asked with a laugh.
âBecause it never takes a woman this long to say yes to me,â he says in a very boastful manner.
âIâm not your woman though,â you say before you could even stop yourself.
âYou are my woman,â Erik rested his tongue on his upper lip before grinning, âjust at work and without the sex, kissing, taking showers together-â
âOkay, you made your point, boyfriend.â You stop him before he continued.
âDoes Eric know about me?â
âA little,â you look towards the ceiling, â heâd probably cancel all his travel plans if he knew how you looked.â
Erik bit into his bottom lip, âhow do I look, Y/N?â
âFine as hell,â you giggle as if you were drunk, âHe already thinks heâs the finest thing walking.â
âThatâs your man though,â Erik chuckles, âYou think heâs fine, right?â
âI mean, yeah, of course.â
Both of you laugh.
âI swear,â you wave him away, âyou play too much.â
âDonât make me steal you away from him.â Erik laughed. His laugh made your stomach do summer salts.
âOkay, Erik,â you speak in a dismissive tone.
âI mean, I could though.â
âWhy do you insist on playing?! If I was single-â
âYou would be mine,â Erik finished.
âYou can have any woman you want. Why me?â
Erik scanned your body at that table, âReally? What you mean? Have you seen yourself, ma?â
âStop,â you giggle. He canât be serious. Erik is a flirt but why on earth would he play like this?
âYou always think a nigga playing when I say that shit.â He sounded offended. You didnât have a reply for that. Avoiding his intense eyes you finished your food while Erik closed his empty container and placed it on the counter next to the thermal lunch bag you brought the food in.
âAight let me get to my desk,â he grabs his coffee and walked up towards you. Erik moves your box braids from your shoulder before grabbing the back of your neck gently. The feel of his smooth fingertips on your skin made the hairs on the back of your neck and arms rise.
âIâll see you later, babe.â
You blush with a mouth full of food, âOkay, Iâll see you later too, baby.â
His fingers left your neck and combed through your box braids before he walked away and out of the lounge. You were so preoccupied with his fingers on the back of your neck and in your hair that you lost your appetite.
ââ
You stood at Reginaâs cubicle halfway listening to her speak and the other half focusing on Erik in his office. He looked bored as hell. Your eyes watched him ball up random printer paper from his fax machine to shoot into his document waste basketball hoop that he had in the corner near the door. He made it perfectly every time. Erik had the coolest office out of all the other Environmental Engineers. Besides the typical Newtonâs Cradle pendulum balls thatâs a famous desk accessory, he had a tropical tabletop fountain, stress relief visual illusion toys, stainless steel pin art hand mold, darts, a Rubikâs cube, Nintendo switch, and many other cool and fun shit.
âGirl,â Regina said chewing on a granola bar, âYouâre not even paying attention to me.â
âI am,â You allow your eyes to fall on her accusatory ones, âIâm just...looking around.â
âNo,â Regina puts up a hand to stop you, âYouâre looking at Erik.â
Both Regina and yourself look over at him, spotting Erik walking back and forth now with his suit jacket removed and the sleeves of his white dress shirt rolled up. He was finger juggling a pen with his right hand while speaking into a Bluetooth in his ear.
âYou might as well let him ruin you, Y/N,â Regina says with a whisper.
âOh my God, Gina,â you stomp across the carpeted floor in your pumps before taking your seat again to finish organizing in Microsoft Excel.
âHe could flirt with any other woman in here. Connie, Demetria, Anita, Nicole, any of those chicks, but he chooses you. Why is that, Y/N?â
âI donât know, Gina, enlighten me,â You roll your eyes.
âNo need. You already know. Erik is feeling you, heavy baby. Heavy like that ass in that skirt that we both know you purposefully wore today to make him look.â
âOKAY.â You stop her with an abrupt tone, âFine. Yes, Gina. Yes, I know Erik is feeling me. But I am in a relationship and I canât just-â
âHeffa, please,â Regina laughs, âdonât even try that shit with me. You are feeling him just the same. You and Eric with the C donât even exist when you walk in here. Itâs obvious you donât want to be with that man anymore and I wouldnât be surprised if he is fucking some chick in NYC and secretly taking her on his little food quests. You can look at me like that all you want but deep down you know Iâm speaking facts.â
âGina,â you speak with a warning, âI will throw this stapler at your head next.â
âWonât. Change. The. Truth,â Regina flips her long ponytail.
A part of you did believe that Eric was cheating on you. It was so obvious at times but you didnât want it to come to that. You and Eric have been together for about five years. But then again, that shit doesnât matter. If it did, he would be worried about fixing the relationship instead of traveling for views.
Ping Ping
-Here comes Connie. Let me take a big gulp of air before she walks in here.
Erik instant messaged you. You snicker like a child doing some sneaky shit. He was so damn goofy.
-Damn. Why donât you just offer her some gum?
-If I do that sheâll know I think her breath stink.
-Just play it cool. Have some sitting out, grab a piece, and offer her a stick. Itâs that simple.
-she talks too damn much. Just talk to me about the Alaska job so I can be prepared. Thatâs why Iâm glad youâre coming with me.
You looked up over your cubicle to watch Connie talking animatedly while Erik swivels in his chair from side to side.
Catch my eye.
Onyx met chestnut.
Erik covered his mouth with his fist to hold in his laughter before placing his hand up at Connie, from what it looked like, to reassure her that he wasnât laughing at what sheâd said.
-want me to drag her out of there by that takky blouse?
-Why are you such a gangsta, girl? LOL aight, come handle my light work, ma
-not before I get a hospital mask so I donât breathe in her toxic fumes. Llab
-đđđđđ straight stupid.
You snicker again.
âWhat is so damn funny?â Regina peered over at you with curious eyes.
âJust IM with Erik,â you bite the gel acrylic on your thumb nail to smother your giggles, âHe canât stand Connie.â
âMhm,â Regina smiles, âyâall so damn cute just get married already.â
-sheâs gone đ
-let's celebrate lol.
Erik sends fireworks through the IM. You send balloons.
-enough about her. I see you đ
-whatâs that?
-you showing off. That attire is hella tight. What you doing with all of that?
-nothing. Lol, why do I have to be doing something?
-I know you wore that for my eyes only. I feel special.
Your fingers hovered over the keyboard. He was going down that lane. You werenât prepared but still, you typed away.
-I figured you would appreciate it since my man wasnât home to admire it before I left.
-Yoâ nigga got some screws loose because I wouldnât be away letting my girl walk out the house like that.
-like what?
-with all that ass sitting in that skirt.
-canât help that I have a lot to work with.
-ainât no problem for me. If you were fucking with me Y/N Iâd make you forget your name. Real talk.
You crossed your legs under the desk and rubbed the back of your neck. If he fucking bitches to make them forget their identities then that means his dick really ainât nothing to play with.
-nothing to say huh?
-Iâm just thinking.
-about what? Talk to me.
-why you really want me to come to Alaska with you.
-đ
-well? Youâre gonna tell me why?
-Because I want you to myself.
-So I can show you something youâve been missing.
-Eric ainât putting it down on my work bae like he should be.
You were so damn nervous. Day by day Erik would grow more frustrated with Eric and your situation. Like Regina said, just let Erik ruin you. Itâs a shame to say that you havenât had sex in about a month. It was just you, your fingers, and your favorite vibrator. It could be Erik, his fingers, his dick, his mouth, and multiple orgasms.
-Heâs not. Itâs been too long. âčïž
-You ainât gotta tell me how long. I can see it in your body language.
You twirl a braid in your hand. Looking away from your computer, you try to be discreet, bringing your eyes to peer over the top of your cubicle into Erikâs office. He was drinking a bottle of water while his eyes concentrated on the computer screen with knitted brows. He placed his bottle on the desk and leaned in, typing again.
Ping ping
-Donât ignore me before I walk over there.
-ooooo Iâm scared.
-Aight, bet. Iâm coming.
-I want you to think long and hard about that, Stevens.
You were flustered, wet, shaken up that he wanted to âshow youâ what youâve been missing, and willing to risk it all if he left his office space to come to talk to you.
-thatâs what she said. đ
You chuckle. He could turn any topic into sex.
âHey, Erik,â
You look up to find him standing next to your cubicle while Regina looked at the both of you with interest. You stand from your seat, ready to get yourself some water but Erik has your shoulders.
âWhere you going?â His husky voice tickled your ear.
âFor some water.â
Erik starts massaging your shoulders lightly.
âCan I come with you? I need to stretch my legs.â
âWhatever, I donât care.â You lead the way.
But you did care. You wondered what he was up to. Now that you walked ahead of him with that very tight wrap skirt on you felt exposed like he has x-ray vision and can see your phat dimpled cheeks bounce and sway. Thank God for an empty lounge. You walk over to the fountain, grabbing a cup, and Erik was right on your side, holding the tap down for you. Your cheeks poke out to hide your blush.
âThank you,â you speak softly. His eyes were intent on you. Not once did you give in and look his way while drinking that ice-cold water. Suddenly unable to breathe you back up a little to make some space between you two. Erik followed with his hands in the pockets of his slacks.
âDonât you have a ton of work to do?â You ask to try and divert the attention away from you. Too late. Erik was determined to make you weak in front of him.
âI do but we have a long day, ma. Iâll get it done. I just couldnât stand being away from my work bae.â
You rub your fingers along the wet cup, âIâm convinced now that you only come to work to be near me.â
âIâm cool with that,â He shrugs, âI could be a whole lot of things if it wasnât for your man whoâs supposed to be home with you.â
âHeâll be back-â
âAnd then heâll be gone again,â Erik letâs out a sigh, âWeâre playing too many games, Y/N. Iâm tired of the flirting back and forth when I know you really want me. Stop coming in here to impress me with these bomb-ass outfits. Iâve been impressed for over a year now.â
Erik closed the space between you both, pressing his chest against your fuller one. You look over his shoulder to make sure no one was coming and when the coast was clear you focused your heated gaze on him.
âIâm tryna undress you with my fucking hands, not my eyes.â Erik takes his fingers to play with the bow of your wrap skirt, âYou feel what Iâm saying?â
You couldnât speak. Your eyes were to busy admiring this gorgeous man who wanted to fuck you. His inviting eyes saw exactly what you wanted. A long, hard, fuck. Taking his fingers, Erik grabs your chin delicately to stroke. He made you feel so precious and desired.ïżŒ
âSo, can I do that?â Erik asked with his lips kissing along your jawline. Your eyes landed on the door to check it and still, no one was there.
âCan I take care of you, ma?â
Yes.
You had this look in your eyes, this look that said, please, Daddy, come fuck me. He smelled so damn good. So invigorating and moisturizing. You could make out a hint of exotic arabica coffee and coconut oil on the skin of his neck.
âNo,â you lick your upper lip, âNo, you canât.â
His lips found yours. He swallowed that no with his full lips and tongue. Both of you knew that your answer was disbelieving when your hands came up to wrap around his neck. That was a green light for Erik. His hands came around your waist, and then down to cup your ass. He would alternate between rubbing your spine and making your cheeks bounce in his hands. Erik rests his chin on your shoulder so he could peer behind you to watch his hands squeezing all that ass on you. He would let it go and watch it bounce before slapping it lightly so he wouldnât make a lot of noise. You felt your heart in your throat. Now, his crotch was pressed into yours. Long and hard indeed. Letâs not forget thick.
âYou free tonight?â He whispered in your ear.
âYeah,â you could feel him lifting you from the floor to sit your bottom on the counter. He was between your legs while your hands reach for his tie to tug on. It distracted you from being so nervous. His hands rested on your exposed upper thighs rubbing your warm skin in slow circles to sooth you. All he was doing was killing you. His touch was so soft and gentle but under all of that was a rough dominating grasp that you yearned for
You werenât sure which throbbing you wanted to quiet moreâthe throbbing between your legs or the throbbing from your heartbeat against your chest. All those daydreams about rubbing your swollen pussy lips all over Erikâs face until you came. Now that the both of you crossed yet another lineââthe touching and kissing line, there was no telling what would happen next. Sex after hours in the office on his desk? Walks to the parking lot only to fuck in the back seat of his car? Happy hour on Friday evenings only to get drunk and have sex at his penthouse?Â
âCan I come over to keep you company?âÂ
âI donât know, E. This office fling situation can fuck with both of our jobs.â You nibble on your bottom lip the second his lips came into contact with your throat.Â
âNobody gotta know,â his plush lips sought out yours again, âIt can be our little secret, baby.âÂ
âBut what if someone does find out?â
âIt wonât happen like that, trust me,â Erik grabs your hand to rest against his crotch. Erik was swelled to cum-inspiring proportions, making you want to finger-fuck yourself with mounting enthusiasm.Â
âDamn, Erik.â Now you were thinking about this office fling as a carnal delight after hours.Â
âI know, right? Imagine me walking around all day, watching you with these big titties...shapely legs...and round assâŠâ
You had the body, beauty, and brains. That meant that you seldom went unnoticed; especially not by Erik, your work bae. Your slant eyes and supple body reminded him of a jungle cat that, when tamed, purred like a kitten. He wanted to hear you mewl and whimper in his ear while his dick that was currently twisted and curved in his briefs bounced off the walls of your pussy. He could see the lust in your feline eyes how quickly you noticed his arched appendage. You were probably fantasizing about what wonderful things it could do for your G-spot.Â
âKeep looking at me like that and watch I finger-fuck this pussy right here,â Erikâs eyes went down to look at the Apple watch on his wrist, âItâs almost that time to eat. Iâm tryna eat something else thoughâŠâ
âEat me?â You couldnât control that slipping from your mouth.Â
âSlob on this yummy pussy,â his hand was between your legs now, caressing the outside of your saturated panties, âYou gonna feed me?â
âWhere?â You whisper.
âShit, we can go to my car for lunch. I got tinted windows.â Erik was desperate to slide his tongue inside you.Â
âErik, this is crazy.â You laugh faintly before he took your face into his hands, gazed into your eyes, and kissed you so urgently it felt as if you were floating away. You could think of nothing else but how good he made you feel. Erik explores your mouth with his tongue, not wanting you to miss an inch of how skilled he was using his mouth.Â
âYouâll be begging me to make this pussy feel good in a minute.â
You were relentless with your hands squeezing the weight of Erikâs curved erection in his black slacks. You really wanted to untuck his dress shirt, get down on your knees, and suck him with a wide-open mouth. Keep your mouth as wide-open as was physically possibleâanxiously awaiting your reward.Â
âDonât worry babe,â Erik gently pulls your hand away from his crotch, âwait for lunch and you can have me all to yourself, okay?â
âââ
You waited and waited. As soon as Erik left that lounge to go back to his desk a last-minute meeting was called and of course, you had to attend as well. Everyone got up from their designated spots to head to the conference room. You squeezed into the same elevator cart as Erik, moving to the back so you could be near him. On purpose, you settle in front of him. Erikâs hand reached out to play with your thick ass while you focused on your phone. That only lasted for about ten seconds because now you were on the 6th floor. Hungry for his touch again you allow everyone else to leave so he could slap your ass.Â
During the hour-long meeting, both of your eyes would meet and knowing smiles would appear on both of your faces. You didnât like the fact that Demetria was seated next to him with her cleavage hanging out from her black blazer. She tried her best to make Erik notice her but he didnât give a fuck about her thirsty actions.Â
It was well past lunchtime and most of the office had gone to either the food court in the building or outside to find something different to eat for a change. Your stomach was rumbling waiting for Erik. Groaning, you put your computer to sleep before grabbing your Chanel bag to leave for lunch by yourself. It wasnât Erikâs fault, you knew that, but you couldnât help being upset and sexually frustrated. No pussy eating or dick sucking in his G Wagon 550 SUV in a desert silver metallic color.Â
Eating alone was boring and lonely. You played with your Caesar salad and hardly even toughed the veggie lasagna. How were you supposed to feed your appetite when it was salivating for dick? You were so excited to finally hook up with Erik. Checking the time on your phone, you had about two hours left in your shift. You pack away the food and decide to save it for dinner tonight. Standing up, you push in the silver chair at the food court table, walking away with a click-clack of your So Kate pumps. You thumb the elevator button before slipping a piece of gum into your mouth. The doors open up and you enter, turning to watch them shut as your reflection appeared.Â
Ping ping
Erik -where did you go?
-To lunch. I was hungry.
Erik- Really? Why didnât you wait for me?
-Because I was STARVING. Plus, you were busy.
Erik- Iâm not busy anymore. Where are you now?
-Heading back upstairs.
Erik- Iâll wait for you.
-Erik, I have to go back to work!
Erik- fuck that you know what I want.
DING. Fifth Floor.
âTold you Iâll wait for you,â He smiles at you dangerously.Â
You almost swallow your gum the way he approached you. You and him, alone in that elevator. Erik kisses your lips, savoring the minty taste from the gum. He pulled back, taking his thumb to wipe the spit from his bottom lip. He turns around to press the 4th-floor button since thatâs were the garage entrance was. Suddenly you were shaking in your pumps. It was really going to happen. Finally, your pussy wouldnât feel painfully neglected. Finally, you could have the touch of a man on your body after an entire month.Â
âAre you okay?â Erik asked while looking down at you.Â
âYeah, Iâm cool,â you give him a reassuring smile.
DING. Fourth Floor.
Down a hallway and through the garage door you both went with your hand in Erikâs. You walk along the concrete ground as your ears took in the sounds of sirens and car horns honking in the middle of traffic. His G-Wagon was parked in a private spot. Erik took his keys out of his suit jacket and unlocked it with a click of a button, even started it up as well. You could hear the engine rumble. The large SUV vibrates as the sound of his radio playing blasted through the speakers. Erik opened the back door, reclining the backseats to lay flat like a bed. He takes off his suit jacket, tossing it in the passenger seat before turning to you, lifting you up, and sitting you in the back.Â
Once there, you take off your heels and place them far enough away so Erik and you could have plenty of space. Erik sat down, leaning forward to remove his shoes. After that, he unbuttoned his dress shirt before pulling it off and balling it up to toss at the front with his suit jacket. He finally turns, crawling his large chiseled body towards you with playful eyes.
âIs that pussy still as wet as it was earlier today? Can I taste that kitty?â
Erik pulled your legs, laying you down on your back. He was on his knees between your legs, opening them wide causing your skirt to lift and bunch around your waist. He came face to face with that phat puss covered in wet fabric. Your voice was stuck in your throat. Erik takes both of his masculine hands to pull down your already saturated panties, spreading open your legs further, and staring at that pink pussy coated with cream. He could smell your scent. His car smelling like your wet pussy.Â
âYeah, this pussy still sloppy,â Erik listened to you purr as he flicked your clit with his thumb. Erik continues to do this while slapping your pussy with his fingers. Each time he slapped your pussy, your juices would build and build to the point of making puddles beneath your ass in his car.Â
âCan I stuff this pussy with my fingers now,â Erik licked his thick fingers clean, âI wanna squeeze in there deep, baby girl.âÂ
âYes,â Your cunt was starving.
âGood, girl.âÂ
He plunged first one, then two, then three fingers deep inside your pussy, flickering at your clit at the same time. He was directly over your G spot with the pads of his fingers repeatedly rubbing you there. Your legs went wider and wider. The sound of your succulent pussy increased in such severity that it was almost deafening. Your moans mixed with the sound of The palm of Erikâs hand slapping your cunt each time he finger-fucked you had him grunting and groaning.
âFaster, faster,â You called out while gyrating your hips to fuck his fingers.Â
âThere you go, fuck my fingers, just like that, get it, baby,â Erik bites his lip, âlook at you ready to bust a nut on my hand, mmm, get that shit, baby.â
A rush of juices flooded the back seat. Erikâs eyes grew wide as your fingers tightened around him. That liquid poured each time he moved his fingers inside of you. All you could do was moan and shake beneath him. Your ass was glued to that surface.Â
âDamn, Y/N.â Erik takes his fingers out slowly before licking them clean. He got up on his knees to reach into his trunk, bringing a Puma gym bag over towards him. He opened it with his wet hands, pulling out a thick black towel that was wrapped in a body wash. Erik places that towel beneath your ass to soak up your mess.Â
âMaking a mess in my fucking car.âÂ
âIâm sorry,â You cover your face with embarrassment, âI do that a lot.â
âDonât apologize about that, ma, I donât give a fuck. Keep doing it like that on these fingers. Better yet...do it like that on my tongue,â Erik laid flat on his stomach, âYou can squirt in Daddyâs mouth too.âÂ
Erik began lapping away at your pussy with such zeal that you were squirming and squealing within minutes. With the flat of his tongue, Erik assaulted your pussy with such a lashing that your legs turned to jello. Erik then probed ever so deeply inside your dripping wet pussy with his pointed tongue, tongue-fucking your slot until your eyes rolled up into your head. He found your throbbing, erect clit and tortured you sweetly with licks and nibbles that sent electric charges throughout your entire body. Grabbing your thighs to squeeze, feasting on that syrupy pussy, Erikâs dick dripped pre-cum in anticipation of your walls capturing his dick and holding tight, while he thrust himself deeper and deeper inside of you.Â
âDamn, ma, Iâm literally drinking this pussy dry.âÂ
âYou make me feel so good! Make me feel good, Erik.â
Erikâs tongue circled around your pussy. Each time he did that your hips would jerk. He was fighting that pussy back with his lips and tongue each time you pumped your hips. You gazed into his dark, sexy eyes and increased the movement of your hips.Â
âOh, fuck!â Erik wrapped his whole mouth around your pussy and started slurping. All Erik could think about was how good you tasted and the heat radiating from your pussy.Â
âShit tastes so good, girl,â He licked his plate clean, âfuck, look at my dick.â
His shit was twisted and curved to the right in those pants. Erik got on his knees to undo his pants. He let out a long sigh of relief the minute his pants and briefs made it down his thighs, resting at his knees. He sat down and pulled the rest of his clothes off, now he was naked from the waist down. You watch his thick dick jerk in his hand. That dick looked like it could bench press a barbell with how hard he was as Erik slid his hand up and down his burgeoning erection. His dick skyrocketed to its highest capacity causing your mouth to drool. Erik pointed out that dick at your mouth. Doing that caused his slit to open and show you his pre-cum waiting to be sucked out.Â
âCome suck me, baby,â His grip was so tight on his dick.
You obeyed every word and sucked him up into your mouth. Damn, Erik was a big boy. So girthy and veiny. Intimidating for sure. His tip blossomed so thickly your lips had a hard time wrapping around it to suck. Erik with a C ainât have nothing on this dick. A beautiful slab of tasty meat gliding across your tongue and poking the back of your throat.Â
âDamn, this is how you do it, ma? You should have warned a nigga first.â
He held the back of your head to guide your mouth lower. Each time he did that, he would grunt and whisper oh, my God, which made you super wet. All you wanted him to do was splatter your mouth with his cum. He was already so close to detonation so you opened up as wide as you could stretch to fill him all the way in.Â
âDAYUM!!!â Erik bellowed, âGood girl, donât waste a fucking drop when I bust in this pretty mouth. Never.â
You graduated from plain old hungry to ravenous. That cum of his sputtering and spurting forth was your reward. The suctioning noise of your hand jerking him empty into your throat mixed with Erikâs deep moans made your pussy convulse around nothing even though you could feel it dripping. You slapped his ever-expanding dick against your tongue.Â
âShit,â Erik looked from his wet dick to your face, âBaby girl, I ainât cum this hard in a minute from getting head.âÂ
You plant kisses all over his dick, working yourself up to more sucking, âI can give you more, Daddy.â
âGive me more of that mouth,â Erik played with your braids, âSwallow my shit and lick my balls.â
âMmm, okay, Daddy.â
Erikâs eyes rolled back when your lips would suck and then pop off his sack. He had to control himself from cumming in your hair.Â
âShit doesnât make no sense,â Erik looked at you with disbelief before a strangled look filled with passion overtook his features.Â
âFffuckkk!!!â He groaned as he blasted inside your mouth with his sweet, sticky offering. You ran your index finger over your bottom lip to retrieve a dollop of cum. That only left you more famished than before causing you to enthusiastically slurp on his rigid pipe again until it was damn near raw and your pussy was sopping wet.Â
âY/N,â Erikâs fingers were tight in your hair. You tasted a bit of leftover cum from his slit with your hungry tongue.Â
Ring RingÂ
Erikâs cell was going off.Â
âShit,â He reached into his pants pockets while you jerked his dick. He answered his phone with an annoyed expression.Â
âWhatâs going on, Greg,â Greg was a fellow Environmental Engineer, âWhat? Right now?â Erik closed his eyes before tossing his head back, âOkay, give me ten minutes.âÂ
Erik hung up his phone.Â
âWe gotta go, ma,â You could hear the disappointment in his voice, âSupposedly itâs something urgent about Alaska.âÂ
You wipe your mouth with the back of your hand, âShould I be worried about the trip?â
Erik gave you a soft smile, âNah, Alaska is happening regardless. Donât worry, bae, we good.âÂ
You pulled your skirt down and placed your wet panties in your bag. You watched Erik fasten his belt in place before he opened the back door to let some air in. You rose from the car, Erik helping you put on your pumps before placing you on your feet. Digging into your bag you sprayed yourself with a little of your Chanel No.5, hoping to camouflage the lingering scent of sex.Â
Looking in Erikâs rearview mirror, you fix your lipgloss and clothes, everything else good to go. Erik was currently spraying himself down with some Gucci cologne from his Puma gym bag and buttoning his suit jacket. He looked just as crisp as he did when he came in this morning.Â
âYou still ainât answer my question, beautiful.âÂ
âWhat question,â Erik grabs your hand while the both of you walked back inside.
âCan I keep you company later?âÂ
You chew on your bottom lip in thought. Eric with the C, your actual boyfriend, might call you later and you didnât want Erik with the K to be around to raise suspicion. Still, no word from Eric and the longer that happened the more you didnât give a fuck.Â
âAm I pressing too much?â Erik asks with soft eyes.
âNo, no,â you reassured him, âI just think it would be better to come to your place instead. Thatâs all.â
âWe can do that,â Erik walked towards you with his body pressed into yours, âBring an overnight bag. Youâre not going back home.â
His lips attacked your throat again, sucking and licking you there.
âI ainât give my work bae some dick yet so you know I gotta take care of you,â His hands found their way back between your legs and on your sensitive pussy, âYou gonna let me do that for you?â He asked huskily.
âOh, Daddy, please do,â you responded.
ââââ
You got home around 6:30 PM. You showered, finished the rest of your lunch since your appetite for dick was satisfied and drank a little bit of red wine.Â
Surprised, shocked, nervous, you decided to wear a black velour tracksuit with your Fenty slides to Erikâs place and packed away everything else you needed on a faux fur tote bag. Phone sitting on the charger, you go to check it since you received a few notifications since coming home.
Eric with the C.
Eric- Iâm alright. Sorry for the lack of communication. Really busy.
-thatâs okay. Be safe.
He didnât respond back.Â
No I love you, I miss you, Iâm thinking about you, nothing.Â
Luckily the picture Erik sent to you made up for that. It was a shower picture. From his broad shoulders down to his well-knit waist with that v cut covered in soap and water. You had the urge to satisfy the cries leaking from your pussy at the moment. You had half the mind to pull your pants down and finger-fuck your pussy into multiple orgasms leaving your slit covered in sticky cum for him to find. How dare he tease you like that? Since you were spending the night you can look forward to shower with him. This entire fling had your skin tingling. Your fingers scrolled down to read the texts he left you. You really wished you hadnât because now you were whimpering.Â
Erik- Canât wait for you to put that work in for Daddy.
Erik- where you at? Iâm tryna put this thang in your gut.
Erik- want me to come to get you?
He was blowing you up. Eric with the C never did this.
-Hey, sorry, I was getting my things together. You donât have to pick me up.
HONK HONK.Â
Erik- too late.Â
You walk to your living room to find Erik parked outside. He was typing away on his phone.Â
Ping PingÂ
Erik- Stop making me wait, girl.Â
You grab your bag, phone, and keys before locking up and leaving. Walking down your cobblestone trail, Erik hops out of his car, walking around to meet you. He was wearing a black Burberry ribbed beanie with a Pyer Moss color block Reebok windbreaker tracksuit on and the same brand of shoes on his feet. He tongued you down before taking your bag to place in the back seat that was now cleaned and placed normally. Erik opened your door to help you up inside before shutting it to return to the driver's side. You watched him walk all the way around and get inside with sultry eyes. With his hand on your upper thigh, he drove off and towards his Penthouse.

visage | j. jaehyun
genre: enemies to lovers... kinda? with some fluff and smut :) word count: 5.2k pairing: reader x jaehyun warnings: graphic hetersexual sex (oral, penetration, etc), swearing, excessive world building summary: Your first day of work at your first real job began terribly. You hadnât got enough sleep, you could barely eat your breakfast, and you managed to get lost on the way. Soon, you discover youâre working alongside serial charmer Jaehyun Jung and that he will stop at nothing to be the best.Â
a/n: this is a mess im sorry lmao. i somehow managed to use jaehyun 86 times in here ... girl...
You felt completely, utterly, and hopelessly lost â all on the first day of your first real job. That morning, you awoke two hours earlier than you had to. If you had a choice, you wouldâve face planted into your pillow and died right there. However, your anxiety decided against it. And with that extra time, you managed to pull off an extended morning routine. A warm, long shower. Ten-step skincare routine. Eggs, toast, and black tea. Despite your attempts to regain your confidence, all was lost as you circled the office building.
The orientation guide you received hadnât helped much. All you knew was that you should report to building B. Whichever building that may have been, you had no idea. Your feet grew weary and you cursed yourself for wearing heels. You rounded the corner of the office park for your fourth or fifth lap, only to be cut off by an overdressed jackass. Before you could sidestep him and continue your hopeless journey, the perpetrator turned to face you.
âOh, no. Heâs hot,â you thought to yourself, praying your cheeks werenât stained red. Despite wearing a well-tailored gray suit, you realized that he was likely your same age. He took in your slightly disheveled appearance, probably noting your ruffled hair and askew skirt.
He tilted his head in the direction of the closest building. âAre you here for orientation, too?â
Of course he had to be in your hiring class. Twenty-two and already looking like he owned the building. You nodded, then turned on your heel to rush inside. Trailing your steps, you heard him chuckle lowly.
You finally joined the rest of the new hires in the security lobby, managing to fix your appearance before you reached the door. To your gratitude, they dressed similarly to you. Just plain business casual. The boy you met earlier definitely stood out, making the others wonder if they hadnât dressed well enough.
Within ten minutes, you all received security badges and shuffled into your orientation room. You preferred the back, whereas the business boy sat directly in the front. Rolling your eyes, you realized his game. You met plenty of people like him in college, ruthless climbers that destroyed everything in their paths. He knew he had to make more than an entrance, he had to make an impression.
You grew to dislike him more and more as your training sessions progressed over the course of two weeks. An insufferable know it all, answering all the questions managers prompted. Volunteering for everything first, unafraid. You on the other hand, did not find his actions necessary. He left a glowing impression, yes, but you found it meaningless. Like hell the trainers cared about how well you completed your general training. Maybe he wanted everyone to relate this to his future performance, for you to watch out for his dominance. For you to fear him. Worst of all, he saw you struggle with the most simplistic task on your first day.
He easily made friends within the group, as there were plenty others like him. All recent college graduates, fantastic resumes, and working for one of the best companies in the field. You, on the other hand, did not have such luck. Your social circle consisted of yourself and another quiet trainee, a quiet finance major named Doyoung. The two of you kept to yourselves and became the outliers of the group, so much to the extent that you sat alone for training sessions.
Two weeks came and passed, and you finally received your team assignments. You found your name on the bulletin, right next to Jaehyun Jungâs. Of course. It had to be this way.
Jaehyun approached the bulletin board aside you, and grinned as he found his name. âLooks like weâre working together,â he commented, still wearing the same expression. You realized why he appeared so happy. People like Jaehyun would not recognize someone like you as a threat. You barely appeared on his radar.
You grit your teeth and forced a smile. âI look forward to it.â
With your whorish luck, you found that your desks were right next to each other and youâd be essentially working back to back. You already hated being watched, and Jaehyun could easily look over his shoulder and see you struggling to keep up.
Jaehyun settled into his seat with ease, already look at home in his new desk. You sat gingerly on your office chair, gathering your surroundings.
Your desks sat right in the view of your department leadâs office, likely to Jaehyunâs excitement.
Being on the same team, you and Jaehyun had the rest of your training sessions together. Just you two and your manager. He always seemed to grasp the new concepts immediately while you merely pretended and made notes to ask Doyoung later.
They assigned your first project sometime later, one that you and Jaehyun would have to complete jointly. You dreaded it, knowing he would try to take over the project.
That first morning, Jaehyun was already at his desk. You glanced at your watch, nearly scoffing as you read off 6:59. Despite having the ability to make his own schedule, Jaehyun chose to arrive before seven. You collapsed into your desk chair, jealousy eyeing Jaehyunâs full coffee mug. He already had time to help himself to coffee. Typical.
âMorning,â he greeted, fully awake and energized. âI set up a meeting for 8 today to start working on the project.â
You powered on your desktop, mentally groaning at the hundreds of emails present in your mailbox. âThatâsâŠfine,â you murmured, praying that you could address all your client emails in a measly hour without the aid of caffeine.
He glanced behind him to see you hunched over and lifelessly typing. âIâll make that 9.â
And yet again, you were caught in a moment of weakness. Great. âYeah, okay.â
Those two hours passed slowly, but at least you managed to prepare a cup of tea. By 8:55, Jaehyun already settled into the conference room and wrote diagnostics on the whiteboard. All while you still went through your emails.
You joined him, a fresh cup of tea in one hand and your laptop in another. âAll right, I see that youâve already set up the basics,â you said monotonously, nodding towards the whiteboard. âI conjured up some of my own ideas as well.â Without prompt, you rose and added a few bullet points under Jaehyunâs âapproachesâ section. You scanned his ideas, noting that they werenât bad, but not what you had in mind.
âI see,â Jaehyun commented, still standing. He put his hands on his hips, carefully mulling over the options. âTheyâre quite good.â
You felt ashamed of your satisfaction for his response, but also surprise. He sounded genuine enough, but you knew that his type always had some angle to work. Prodding you board at your second option, you decided, âI think this is our best bet.â
Jaehyun remained quiet for a moment, eyes flickering across the board. âWhat if we combined a couple?â he inquired. He pointed to your idea, then his. âIt would streamline the process more holistically.â
âHolistically??â you thought. You hadnât heard that word since high school English class. It was so painfully pretentious to you.
He went on to explain how it would work, but you were still caught up on the pure obnoxiousness of the word âholistically.â
          âY/N,â Jaehyun tried. âHello?â
You blinked, finally hearing your name. âSorry, I was thinking about how this will impact everything.â A lie, Jaehyun didnât need to know how long you caught yourself on a single word.
âSo, what do you think?â Jaehyun leaned against the wall, eyes searching yours.
Oh god, now you were thinking about his eyes. Pushing those thoughts aside, you answered, âSo long as we put a heavy emphasis on my part, I think itâll work.â
He agreed and you went on, mostly working quietly. You avoided asking him questions, even when you became desperate. Jaehyun, meanwhile, tried to engage you in small talk.
âWhere did you go to college?â he asked, to which you gave him a one-word response.
          âAre you from here?â
          âDo you have a boyfriend?â
          âWhat was your major?â
You barely answered, but he failed to get the point until he finally inquired to something relevant. âDid I do something that offended you?â
You drew in a breath, fumbling for the right words. If you were honest with him, you wouldnât have to put on a façade. If you lied, you wouldnât get on his bad side. Even pretty boys like him could be ruthless if given the opportunity and reason. You saw it before, you knew you would see it all over again.
âNo,â you decided, pulling on a tight-lipped smile. âI just want to do really well on this.â
That last part, at least, wasnât a lie. You felt that you had to prove yourself, especially against the Jaehyuns of the world. If only briefly, you saw his relief. His face relaxed a little, and his shoulders lost some tension. âMe too,â he agreed.
The following month went on similarly. You completed the project quietly, only interjecting to make corrections and provide your input. When you finally reached the day of your presentation, your nerves caught you once more. You woke up far too early and arrived at the office at the same time as Jaehyun. A new record.
If he was on edge, you couldnât tell. Outwardly, he appeared the same. Nothing could take away his quiet glow of confidence. Jaehyun worked, unbothered, sipping his coffee almost casually.
          âAre you ready?â
Jaehyun turned to face you. âNever been readier.â
You raised an eyebrow. âI donât know if readier is a word.â
With a shrug and smile, Jaehyun returned to his work again. Odd, considering he was always chatty.
You attempted to mimic him, to work without doubts and review your notes. But your hands shook as you tried to type. You knew you couldnât focus until you finished the presentation.
Although you hadnât noticed him leave, you saw him approach your desk. Jaehyun gingerly placed a styrofoam cup on your desk. Your eyes met his. âJaehyun?â
âJust some tea before the presentation,â he explained. âI noticed you like black tea with honey.â
You brought the cup to your lips, delighted to find that it was the perfect temperature. For once, you didnât care about his motive. âThanks,â you said. And you meant it.
He gave you wink. âWeâll be great today.â
          You hoped he was right.
The presentation crept up on you suddenly, much faster than you had anticipated. Jaehyun found you outside the conference room, where you managers and team lead had already gathered, pacing and talking to yourself.
          âAre you okay?â
He caught you again, there was no use in denying the truth. âAbsolutely not.â
Jaehyun laughed lowly and put a hand on your shoulder. A part of you wanted to shrug it off, but you felt a strange comfort. âIâm nervous, too.â
You almost burst out laughing. Like hell he was nervous. But his concession, fake or real, made you feel some comfort.
Having reeled yourself in, you entered the conference room together.
And together, you made it through the presentation. You both had prepared excessively, ready to answer any question thoroughly. Management applauded your efforts, declaring that you had exceeded expectations. They rewarded you with a gift-card to a nearby steakhouse and urged you to celebrate together. Hastily, you attempted to invite the managers, only to be declined. They had work to complete in the office.
Your cheeks lit up red with embarrassment, but you agreed to make reservations for that night.
Jaehyun offered a ride over, to which you vehemently wanted to reject. Before the eyes of your manager, you took him up. You assured yourself that he was still the same person you knew. Nothing different. Nothing couldâve changed that. Seeing his car certainly helped. You never knew any recent college graduates that drove a Tesla, and yetâŠ
Once you arrived at the restaurant, you quickly ordered yourself a martini. You didnât care which one, so long as it had plenty of alcohol. Jaehyun simply ordered a beer, quoting driver safety commercials. âJust this,â he promised you, then proposed a toast. âWe pulled it off.â
You drank your martini with gusto, and then prompted the waiter for another one. Jaehyun watched as you became drunk, consistently grinning as began to ramble. âYou know I hate you, right?â
Your question caught him off guard. âYou hate me?â
With a smile, you brought the martini glass to your lips. âYouâre too perfect and try too hard.â His expression fell, but you forged on. For months, he made you feel inadequate and beyond anxious. You befuddled mind justified this bluntness. âEvery day feels like a goddamn competition.â
Jaehyun reached across the table, taking your hand. âI had no idea,â he admitted quietly. âIâm so sorry.â
âItâs whatever. Youâre no different from most in our hiring class.â
With a sigh, Jaehyun took an elongated sip from his beer. âTheyâre not all bad.â
Despite the alcohol coursing its way through your system, you realized that a few strands of hair fell out of place. He hunched over, brows furrowed, lost in thought. It wasnât the first time you saw that either. Just out of your periphery vision, you saw him buried in work while you finished the project.Â
Jaehyun swept his hands through his hair. The way he bit his lip made you wonder if he was holding himself back. And the waiter arrived with your meals before you could muster a response.
You sat in silence, Jaehyun haphazardly cutting his steak. He refused to look at you.
As you absentmindedly twirled your pasta onto your fork, Jaehyun finally spoke up. âIâm not perfect, and youâre not easy to work with either.â
âExcuse me?â You couldnât conceal your anger at this sentiment.
Jaehyun met your gaze, eyes determined. âYou had to control every part of the project. Had everything your way.â
That, you had heard before. And you absolutely hated it. âWe did well on the project because of me,â you said defensively. âLest you forget.â
The two of you went on bickering like this, angrily finishing your meals and drinks. The waiter hesitantly approached your table, and you demanded the check. The sooner you could leave, the better.
Once paid, you managed to not storm out of the restaurant. But you wore a disgruntled expression and balled your fists.
You reached your work parking lot, and instantly ejected yourself from the Tesla. It wasnât until you reached your car, however, that you realized that you didnât have your keys. Probably left it in the passenger seat.
Angrily, you stomped back to Jaehyunâs space where he twirled the keys around his index finger. âIâm not letting you drive. You drank too much.â
You gritted your teeth. âI sobered up plenty.â
Jaehyun approached you and held a square device in front of him. âWell, then you can prove it.â
You yanked the breathalyzer from him, not bothering to ask why he had it. Made sense for someone like him. With a groan, you realized he was right. 0.1.
Not wanting to admit it, you continued your enraged march to the nearby retention pond where a lone bench sat in front of the water. You crossed your arms, and bitterly stared at the water from there.
Jaehyun followed you, leaning onto the back of the bench. âI didnât know this place existed.â
You laughed bitterly. âItâs because you never leave your desk. Youâre always working. Always networking. Always trying something.â
To your surprise, Jaehyun appeared to calm down from earlier. He regained his flawless demeanor. âIt takes me a lot longer to do things.â
Well that, that took you off guard. âDoing extra work,â you said, making a weak attempt to correct him.
âNo.â After a long pause, he asked, âDo you really hate me?â
His tone made you feel some guilt. âDonât you hate me?â you shot back, remembering his comments at the restaurant.
âI donât,â he affirmed. âI never have.â
You considered that. In your college career, you made plenty of enemies with the same behavior. Those times, you ensured yourself, were valid. Those classmates never completed their work and simply didnât care about the performance. You had been left with ten-page papers to complete on your own. You turned poorly written trash into works professors recommended for publishing. But you knew Jaehyun wasnât the same as them at least.
Behind Jaehyun, the sun had just begun to set. The sky lit up with orange and pink hues. âI shouldnât have taken over the project,â you admitted, your voice barely above a whisper. A part of you hoped he wouldnât hear.
          âOh,â Jaehyun said softly.
You gave him a warning expression. âDo not let that get to your head. You came into this job with an agenda.â
âJesus Christ, Y/N,â Jaehyun groaned. âWhere the hell are you getting these ideas from?â
You couldnât bear to look at him, imagining the smug look on his face as he basically told you that you were crazy. âPeople like you are always ruthlessly ambitious.â
âAnd what am I like, then?â Jaehyun mused.
Without skipping a beat, you explained, âAttractive, charming, overcompensating.â
You could feel his eyes boring into the back of your head, and just knew his smug smile made another appearance. He chuckled and said, âSounds like you.â
âFunny,â you mocked. âLast time I checked; Iâm only overcompensating less outwardly.â
He joined you and took a seat on the bench, stretching his arm over the top of the bench. Only inches away from being on your shoulders. Disgusting. âYouâre wrong.â
Without prompt, he suggested a game of twenty questions. Jaehyun clarified his intent, stating that perhaps you misunderstood each other. Sensing your doubt, he held his pinky finger out and searched your eyes. You hesitantly connected your pinkies and brought your thumb to your lips, both promising to be truthful.
âDo you think Iâm good at my job?â you inquired first, eyes cast out to the sparkling pond.
Almost instantaneously, Jaehyun firmly answered, âYes.â You concealed your satisfaction, biting your lip to prevent you to smile. âDo you think Iâm good at my job?â
You replied almost as quickly, âOf course I do.â
The questions got progressively less serious, some among the likes of favorite movies and which books you were currently reading. Somehow, you felt relaxed. Jaehyun didnât feel like competition, but rather just a normal stupid boy. He let you have another try at the breathalyzer, and you felt relief in the .05 reading before you. At the same time, you wanted to remain beside him.
âI donât think I hate you anymore,â you conceded, accepting your words as truth. âIf you stop coming off as perfect all the time.
He let out a laugh, a sweet sound of joy and relief. âHey, you come off as perfect too. You were just quiet around me.â With a devilish grin, Jaehyun ventured, âIs it because you think Iâm attractive?â
You glared at him from the corner of your eye. âAre you trying so hard because you find me attractive?â you challenged him.
Jaehyun turned his body to face you. âThat depends on whether itâs working.â
Now games like these you didn't mind as much. A harmless game of chicken, testing your limits. Work had its difficulties, but boys? Easy. You cupped his cheek, amazed at how soft his skin felt to the touch. Your eyes met, beckoning the other to try something. "So, this is why you asked me if I was dating anyone?" you dared. "Under the guise of getting to know me and making small talk. I thought someone as perfect as you would have more...subtlety." You let the last word slip out of your mouth slowly. Registering his surprise, you continued, âI donât forget things easily, hence why Iâve been able to hate you so long.â
Jaehyun grinned cockily, placing your hand on his chest. You felt defined muscles straining against his button-down. Already, you figured his body would match the rest of his veneer. âYou really have nerve being out here like this,â Jaehyun overserved, gesturing the office park a short walk away.
âOh, uncomfortable here?â you drawled playfully, then took his hand. âI know somewhere you may like.â
You felt a wave of confidence wash over you, and you realized this what you assumed Jaehyun had always felt. Then you decided that youâd make it up to him one way or another. He followed you, only letting your hands detach as you got closer to the infamous âBâ building you worked in. You noted his nervousness and gave him a reassuring smile. âTrust me,â you urged.
Entering through the side door, you managed to avoid security. Your entry would appear on a log, but you could easily bristle over it and say that you forgot your laptop at your desk. Most of your coworkers avoided the stairs, so you led Jaehyun away from the elevator. Though, you had forgotten that you were wearing heels. You struggled up the steps by the second flight, clinging onto the railing for dear life. Jaehyun noted this, but said nothing as he swept you into his arms.
âI wish you did on the first floor,â you joked. âOr maybe I couldâve just taken them off.â
Jaehyun refused to let you down until you reached the fourth floor. Whenever you found yourself in a vulnerable state, you hid out beside the decommissioned wing. The unused nursing room featured its own bathroom and a small futon. Having visited the location so often, you knew that the cleaning staff rarely came by. You asked once and discovered that they only visit at the beginning of the month. No one else ever came by in your experience. It appeared that only you knew about this place, and now Jaehyun. âThis is where you run away to,â he deciphered. âI always thought it was the cafĂ©.â
âI prefer privacy.â You leaned against the door as Jaehyun took in his surroundings. âAnd I wanted to go somewhere you couldnât find me.â Â
He fell back onto the futon, looking at you in awe. âJust when I think I know you.â
You fumbled for the lock behind you until you heard a distinct click. âDo you remember when you first met me? When I was so stupid and got lost?â
Jaehyun rose, appearing concerned. âI didnât know. I just thought you were cute.â
He cornered you against the door, body close enough to feel your shaky breath. All that time just hating him when you couldâve been seducing him for the purpose of hindering his goals and ultimately find the truth much sooner. You wasted so much time, held so much resentment. In front of you, you saw a seemingly perfect boy study your movements, waiting. A position you would have never imagined yourself mere hours before. Yet, you saw it all in hindsight and perhaps always knew the truth. It was then that you decided that you didnât want to play games anymore or mull over an agenda.
Jaehyun angled his chin downwards, gazing into your eyes with a mix of emotions. Excitement, fear, desire. You kissed him, gently and slowly. More carefully, you wanted to know him in this way. Feel the way his lips moved against yours, his increasing heart rate. He rested his hands on your hips, gripping them as if he couldnât support himself without them. Soon after, you wrapped your arms around his neck and gradually deepened the kiss. These moments you shared felt like high school, so unassuming and simple.
You pulled away, resting your forehead on his. You caught your breath and entangled your fingers with his. âIâm sorry,â you murmured.
He idled, drawing kisses down your cheek and neck. âFor what?â Jaehyun ventured.
âFor not knowing you until now, and maybe still not knowing you.â
With his thumb, he drew circles on the back of your hand. âDo you want to know more?â he asked, his voice quietly sultry.
âYes,â you whispered. With this admission, Jaehyunâs butterfly kisses became more daunting. He crashed his lips upon yours and held you closer. Your tongues soon met, messier and carelessly. Feeling daring, you ran your hand under his shirt, digging your fingernails against his abs. A bit lower, and you realized he was straining against his slacks.Â
Jaehyun bucked under your touch, gasping against your lips. You gripped his clothed cock with more certainty than before and Jaehyun fumbled to reach your breast. Still against the door, you held each other. âWeâre lucky this room is soundproof,â you commented, noting your precarious position.Â
Not waiting for his response, you quickly undid Jaehyunâs belt followed by his zipper. You tugged his pants to his ankles and brought your attention to boxer-brief covered erection as you supported yourself on your knees. Laying a flat tongue against his balls, you drew a line from shaft to tip. He sucked in a sharp breath and watched you with hungry eyes as you finally removed the final layer of clothing.Â
His erection sprung upwards, precum already forming. Zealously, you took the tip into your mouth and ran your tongue over the wet slit. You leaned back, seeing Jaehyun absolutely desperate as he stood over you. Continuing, you wet his dick with sloppy kisses. You wanted him to have everything, feel every part of your mouth. With one hand on the base, you craned your neck to take in more of him from the tip. You used your whole body to rock your mouth further down his dick. When he reached the back of your throat, you gagged slightly but didnât care. Gently at first, he began to rock his hips. Becoming restless, Jaehyun held your head and pushed his erection further down your throat with messy thrusts. You looked at him with wide eyes, conveying for him to continue.Â
Jaehyun instead picked you up as if you weighed nothing and placed you precariously on the couch. While naked from the waist down, you were still fully clothed. Wasting no time, Jaehyun ripped your blouse off - buttons and all flying wildly around the room. He pulled your bra cup down to reveal a nipple, to which he immediately pinched between his fingers. Already excited, he removed your black jeans and panties. Jaehyun lowered himself to your glistening pussy and brought a digit to his mouth before pushing it inside you. The penetration left you unwinding as he added another finger. He curled his fingers upwards, each push and pull hitting your g-spot. As you thrashed, he held you down with a firm hand, especially after he began sucking on your clit. In mere minutes, he brought you to your orgasm. You wished you had the words to describe the way you felt that immense pleasure, but nothing would ever be sufficient.Â
Breathlessly you beckoned Jaehyun to the bathroom. âI have an IUD,â you confirmed. With your new found trust, you knew Jaehyun wouldnât even attempt to sleep with you if he had an STD. There, you gazed at him from the mirror. Watched him approach you and run his hands up and down your body. He positioned one leg so that you were half propped over the sink and still standing on the other. Jaehyunâs dick teased your aching pussy as he dragged it from your folds to your clit to your entrance. Both facing the mirror, your eyes locked as Jaehyun pushed himself fully in you. You both drew in strained breaths. Once he ensured that you adjusted, he fucked you. Neither of you ever watched yourselves have sex, but you were even more turned on watching Jaehyun clutch onto your tit and whisper obscenities in your ear.Â
âYouâre so fucking hot,â he growled, burying himself deeper in you.Â
Jaehyun slowed his pace, suddenly lifting you and pushing you against the wall. He supported your entire weight as he fucked you there.Â
âIâm going to ride you,â you said breathily, to which Jaehyun obliged immediately. He sat up straight on the futon, leading you to his cock once more. In that position, you put yourself to work. You bounced atop his dick, only stopping to grind your clit against his pelvis. You came unexpectedly, the sensation getting fucked and stimulating your clit becoming too much for you. Jaehyun and you both were surprised when a stream of liquid sprung out of you.Â
With his mouth agape, Jaehyun looked at you. âYou can squirt?â
Before that moment, you wouldâve answered that no, you couldnât squirt since you never had. Until then. He registered your shock and turned you so that your back rested against the futon. Jaehyun hovered over you, hair askew and face reddened. You imagined that you appeared the same. He kissed you, breathing âI donât know how I got so lucky,â on your lips.Â
Jaehyun unraveled quickly in this position, and you urged him to come on your tits. Following his orgasm, you attempted to clean yourselves up in the bathroom. âEverything smells like sex,â you observed, frivilously spraying Febreeze everywhere you could. Between futon cushions. The door handle, Jaehyunâs general direction. You didnât realize you were shirtless until you saw a mess of buttons on the floor.Â
A weak solution, but Jaehyun offered you his suit jacket. Youâd have to walk out of the building crossing your arms and praying a nipple wouldnât escape, but something. Once the room was clean, Jaehyun and you fine-tuned your own appearances in the bathroom. Neither of you looked refined or polished, but human.Â
âI want more,â you admitted.Â
At the same time, Jaehyun asked, âCan I buy you dinner?â
You shook your head. This version of Jaehyun, the one messily fucking you in an office nursing room, you preferred. âI just want to spend time with you.âÂ
Jaehyun smiled and agreed.
You left the room separately as to not arouse any suspicion. Jaehyun met you outside your car, once more carelessly spinning your keys. The sun had set by that time, leaving you both shrouded in moonlight. Despite the sunâs absence the air remained warm and inviting. âWeâre going stargazing,â you decided. âAfter we change.âÂ
Jaehyun arrived at the agreed upon park first, sporting a loose shirt and Adidas joggers. You never had seen him dressed so casually. He already set up a blanket at the top of the hill and rested on his back.Â
You wore a nearly identical outfit, and went without makeup. Normally, you hated it when your partners saw you without anything on. But you wanted Jaehyun to see this part of you, too. Despite living in a well-populated city, the stars appeared very clearly that night alongside a waxing crescent moon.Â
âDo you think the managers set us up?â Jaehyun pondered, wrapping an arm around your waist as you joined him.Â
âWithout a doubt. And weâll probably have to tell them about this at some point.â
And he kissed you again. How many times that night, you lost count. Looking at him, the image of the boy you met months ago flashed before your eyes. The one with the suit, the dashing smile, and dough-like dimples. You, a nervous wreck getting in her own way.Â
You fell asleep on his shoulder that night, head buried in his neck as he snored quietly. Â

RWBY Recaps: Volume 8Â âRefugeâ

Happy Saturday, everyone! Welcome to week two of⊠fourteen? Is that how many episodes weâve got this Volume? Man, weâre going to be here for a while.
Thereâs a ton to unpack in âRefuge,â but as promised I want to delve into the opening first. Given the scattered, symbolic nature of our intro I think itâs easiest to just chuck out observations in list form. Iâll segue back into cohesive recapping in a moment.
So, what have we got?

The glitching between a happy, whole Atlas and the burning wreckage weâre now dealing with. That works well given both Atlasâ tech-focus culture and the ways that tech has led to some of our biggest tragedies (hijacked army, framing Penny, etc.)

Ruby looks scared and is standing behind the rest of her team, separated from them by the title. Iâm not really feeling that theme so far though, given Yangâs incredibly weak challenge, Rubyâs immediate forgiveness (during her talk with Penny), and the fact that sheâs still working with half the team who vocally support her, particularly Nora. Unless something drastic changes, the idea of Ruby being the outsider here is silly.

We get shots of the girls with their past selves superimposed over their bodies and weapons. I like the message hereâthey carry those versions of themselves with themâjust not how itâs contrasted with Ironwoodâs image of an earlier Atlas now burning. So thatâs all he is now? Everyone gets to embody their growth except for him? His past is erased to focus solely on our current predicament? Iâm not picking up any redemption flags hereâŠ
Robynâs hand reaches down towards Cloverâs badge, which then circles to show off the Ace Ops. The final image contrasts an angry Harriet with a defeated Qrow. At least, I hope theyâre contrasts. Itâs going to read as absurd if they somehow end up working together after Qrow helped get her leader killed.

This morphs into Qrow alone who sits, devastated, until Robyn offers him a hand up and they both smile. Iâm not a fan of this symbolism after the prison scene we got this episode. Itâs like Qrow might have thought about his choices until Robynâs anger reminded him that, oh yeah, he can be angry at Ironwood instead. These two teaming up, when their last team-up led to a death, is worrisome to say the least.

We get our horrifying image of Salem looming over Oscar as he clutches his head. The groupâs weapons fall. This makes sense given this episodeâs kidnapping and the teamâs sheer inability to do anything to stop it.

Jaune stands determinedâalso makes sense with his trend of giving âpep talksââwhile Ren and Nora stand apart, facing opposite directions. Nora looks back though.

Paralleling them are Winter and Weiss who also face opposite directions. This is becoming a common visual theme: Harriet and Qrow, Nora and Ren, Winter and Weiss. Here though, Weiss looks determinedly ahead while Winter stares down at her feet, unsure. Ugh, I just know theyâre going to have her betray Ironwood too.

We get a brief glimpse of Whitley and Willow, not a whole lot to go on. Then we see Salem turning her chess pieces into grimmâliterally changing the gameâwhile Ironwoodâs white pieces are turned to dust. I could make a quip about how white is supposed to go first, but the initial move was made thousands of years before Ironwood existed and thus he never stood a chance, certainly not when his own allies are actively working against him⊠but I wonât lol

Watts is smiling at a terminal while at his back Pietro works at his. More opposites. Pietroâs reflection looks to Penny even as his body continues to work, his heart contrasting his head. Penny, in turn, looks upset as her reflection flinches at something off screen and the glass cracks. Watts hacking her, perhaps?
We see the new teams as a cherry blossom (I think?) floats across the screen. It melts in Renâs hand while escaping Noraâs. Honestly, Iâm not sure what to make of that just yet.

Ruby and Yang share a lookâundermining their supposed conflict this volume. Couldnât we have gotten sister unity over the last three years instead?âand a fight against grimm starts up. It freezes as Cinder walks through it, hopefully implying that the groupâs attention is on the wrong threat. While they concern themselves with low-level grimm, Salem and her allies are walking free and wreaking havoc.
Then Cinder screams and clutches her grimm arm as things go up in flames. I hope thatâs not a death flag given that weâve teased her death twice already and we only just got a glimpse at her backstory. Also, I think itâs worth mentioning here that thereâs a âSummer is the Houndâ theory gaining traction which, frankly, I think is 100% unsubstantiated. Itâs a fun crack theory, but not something Iâm inclined to take seriously until we get some actual evidence behind it. There is, however, potential evidence for people becoming grimm in general: Salem falling into the pool and Cinder receiving that arm. Thatâs not much though. So while Iâm far from convinced that the Hound was once humanâlet alone that it was Summerâthere is something to the theory that Salem may be able to control Cinder via her arm like she controls other grimm. After all, she knew Cinder was alive despite everyone else thinking sheâd perished. They seem to have some sort of connection that hasnât been explained yet and now that Cinder has willingly walked back into Salemâs clutches, she may not be able to walk out.

There are shots of all our other villains, the Lamp and the Staff reflected in Salemâs eyes, and Jinnâs blue smoke, perhaps suggesting that weâll see her again, or the entity residing in the Staff (if they exist).

Atlas glitches back to normalâa false victory?âbefore the ice breaks and Team RWBY falls into the darkness below. Volume 3 vibes all around. Thereâs light above them emanating from the Staff, but as Ruby reaches for it grimm arms circle and pull her deeper. I hope this means that the group will suffer the defeat we need to keep Salem as a legitimate threat, but we had very similar imagery back in Volume 6 and they made it out of that situation just fine, so.

âHappy Ever Afterâ glitches into âHappy? Never Again.â Which isnât ominous or anything. We finally end on the classic RWBY image of Crescent Rose buried in the snow underneath the shattered moon.
On the whole I think the opening is strong and I like a lot of the symbolism in it, though I do question how much will actually end up being relevant to the story. My only gripes are that there are too many different styles going onâit feels like three or four different Volume openings slammed togetherâand the fact that it also feels overly long. I donât think itâs actually any longer than our Volume 7 opening, but it seems that way to me, perhaps because of those varying styles breaking things up.
So thatâs what weâll be watching for the next twelve weeks! Letâs move onto the actual episode.

We open on the image of Cloverâs bloody badge in Qrow hand, the same one we got in the trailer. I theorized last recap that weâd be getting the rest of our trailer/promo material this week and I was almost entirely correct in that. This moment, retrieving the bikes, fighting off the grimm, Watts getting hit, Oscar carried away⊠all weâre missing are some eye closeups and Nora powering up her hammer. As said, it makes me nervous for what the rest of the Volume holds. I canât decide whether the footage wasnât ready to be included in promo materials that early, or if RT is just determined not to give us any information past the first two episodesâŠ
Regardless, this is supposed to be a moment of grief and all I could focus on was Qrowâs hand. Specifically, the lack of detail in it. On the whole, Iâve been very happy with the engine upgrade and I quite like RWBYâs animation now, but a closeup here draws too much attention to how, sometimes, theyâre just not animating their characters in a way that looks natural. Where is Qrowâs wrist? Why is his palm perfectly smooth? Stylistically thatâs usually fine, but when given the chance to stare at it you realize how odd it looks.Â
Says the woman whose own drawing skills suck but, ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ
But weâre talking about the important bits in this episode! Out of frame Robyn is heard yelling, âThis is your fault. You realize that, donât you?â Weâre meant to think that sheâs telling Qrow this, especially with how heâs bent guiltily over the badge, until we cut to reveal Jacques right next to them.

I wish Robyn was saying all that to Qrow. It would mean that she was ignoring her own responsibility in Cloverâs death, but at least it would have started an arc where Qrow has to grapple with what he did. Not the awful moment thatâs coming up.
Before that though, Jacques claims that heâs the âvictimâ here who was âduped.â His hands may not be clean, but âat least Iâm not a murderer.â Look, Iâm not here to absolve Jacques of anything. The guy is an absolute shit stain on the Remnant world. However, heâs right in his overall point even if his words are BS. Meaning, Jacques is not a victim and he is a murderer, but he is not the one responsible for Cloverâs death. Robyn has plenty of things to be furious at him for, but this is not one of them. Ironically, here we have Jacques functioning as the kind of villain the show wants Ironwood to be. He is a murderer because the company he runs exploits faunus and forces them to work in dangerous conditions (see: the death of Iliaâs parents). He is culpable because he a) had control over these conditions and b) has full knowledge of their flaws. Heâs a racist who cares more about money than lives. His informed choices then led directly to deaths. Ironwood? Not anywhere near the same thing. Overlooking the âOmg Salem is here and I have to do something about itâ context, he did not try to arrest Robyn. He did not force Qrow to resist arrest, or Robyn to get involved, or Qrow to break Cloverâs aura, or Tyrian to stab him in the chest. Ironwood had no control or knowledge of these events, so he is not responsible for Cloverâs death in the way that Jacques is responsible for the faunusâ. RWBY is giving the right arc to the wrong character.
Robyn then insists that Qrow didnât kill anyone. He didnât strike the blow, but he certainly helped! Look, Qrow is one of my favorites, but Iâm not about to claim that he didnât have a hand in getting his friend killed. I seriously canât believe the show is ignoring this.
We then segue into some, uh, questionable dialogue choices. Jacques is a âsnake with a mustacheâ? Sorry, I canât take Robyn seriously at the best of times, but definitely not when sheâs tossing out laugh worthy insults like that. Nevertheless, this âsnake with a mustacheâ is guilty because he âhelped that man tear us all apart.â That man being Watts.

âŠwhy are they all in what amounts to the same cell with barriers dividing them? I suppose we could make the argument that theyâre being held in some secret facility, given that theyâre in this dark, garage-esque space with no lights and no other prisoners. Some sort of maximum security setup that... doesnât have any other inmates and no additional security? Hmm. Then again, the power is supposed to be out and I donât really trust RWBYâs ability to craft consistent backgrounds. I feel like theyâre packed together merely because thatâs plot convenient, not because it makes any sense in world.
Watts looks pretty comfortable in there though and Jacques is likewise full of confidence. He says that by now Whitley will have already called their lawyers to get him out. Now, non-imprisoned people know that the apocalypse is currently underway, as Joanna will later put it. No one is lawyer-ing at the moment, but it will be crucial to see whether Whitley is trying to get Jacques out despite the chaos. How faithful is he to his abuser? Can Willow start undermining Jacquesâ influence now that theyâre alone?
Jacqueâs confidence thoroughly pisses Robyn off and she screams, punching the barrier between them. Keep this in mind for a second.Â

A moment later two guards show up to take Watts somewhere and⊠oh no. Please donât tell me Ironwood is going to team up with him now that Penny has written him off? I know the guy has (presumably) already killed someone, and he must assume heâs killed Oscar, so weâre definitely in full villain territory despite the stupidity of it⊠but please donât start working with Salemâs henchmen too. You know what? Iâm not going to assume the worst until I actually see it. RWBY gives me enough nonsense as it is lol.
What I really want to talk about is that hit.Â

Iâm somewhat concerned by a lot of the fandomâs reaction to this moment in comparison to another. Who remembers Volume 6? That scene when Qrow punched Ozpin directly into a tree? Now, Iâm not keeping track of who says what whenâthis is a generalized reactionâbut I saw a lot of posts defending that action. There were numerous justifications for the punch, but the three big ones were: 1. These characters are fighters and theyâre used to it, 2. These characters have aura so itâs not that bad, and 3. Ozpin totally deserved it. Now, the problems here are that 1a. I donât think punching someone when theyâre crying on their knees is justified, whether theyâre a fighter or not, 1b. Qrow was likewise punching Oscar, a totally innocent kid, 2. We had established earlier that Oscar was having trouble remembering to activate his aura and didnât seem to have it active then (no ripple effect, heâs rubbing his jaw afterwards), and 3. Ozpinâs crimes are, as explored on this blog, not nearly the horrific actions that the story and fandom would like to paint them as. The point is that despite all this, lots and lots of fans said it was totally okay to punch Ozpin&Oscar. Whatâs the big deal? they asked. Now, lots and lots of fansâmostly when the trailer first droppedâsay itâs not okay to punch Watts. Despite the fact that heâs also a fighter. Despite the fact that his aura has broken. Despite the fact that heâs not currently a threat (seated on the bed/Ozpin on his knees). Despite the fact that heâs responsible for helping Salem try to take over the world. If we were to make a case for who deserves to get hit, Watts is a WAY stronger candidate in my opinion, yet heâs the one who a lot of fans are scrambling to defend. Why? I assume itâs because hitting him feeds into the generalized police state/dictator theme Ironwood has been thrown into. It helps villainize Ironwood for fans to go, âPoor Watts. Heâs done horrific things but no one deserves to face police brutality.â I agree. The only problem is that a lot of those same fans seem to have gone, âOzpin can get over it. He deserved to be hit! I would have done a whole lot worse to himâŠâ So is the difference only that one attacker is a military professional and the other is⊠a huntsmen professional who soon after that scene starts working for the military? Yeah. The show continually ignores that the group arenât the rogue heroes they pretend to be. They worked under Ironwood for weeks, if not months.
The show isnât clear about its morals and neither are the fans, with both changing tactics whenever it helps blame the character they already donât like. When Robyn punches the barrier, do we really think she wouldnât have hit Jacques if given the chance? Why would it be heroic for her to hit the Evil Man but itâs not okay for the grunt minor character to hit the other Evil Man? These morals donât change just because you like Robyn and donât like Ironwood.Â

Jumping ahead for a moment, we get another example of this hypocrisy with Joanna. A reporter is informing the people that the military seems to have stopped evacuations and there is an unheard number of grimm hanging out overhead, both things that are objective facts. Heâs reporting as he should, sticking to whatâs known and provable, and thus is, notably, not some lackey of Ironwoodâs who is hastily presented as evil. Yet Joanna treats him like he is. She snatches the microphone from him and, when he starts to protest, threatens him with her weapon. After sheâs done hijacking the feed, she shoves him on her way out.

Look at how scared this guy is. These are our heroes? This back and forth doesnât work. Prior to his random killing spree, Ironwood took his fear and frustration out on some furniture, yet the show acted as if he was hurting real people. The mere possibility that he might use violence and intimidation to achieve heroic goalsâgetting Amity up/escaping Salemâwas enough to label him as an antagonist because the understanding was that you canât act like that no matter what your intentions are. Yet our current heroes can use as much violence and intimidation as they want to achieve their own heroic goal of warning the people? Do we think the story will encourage us to be critical of the group if they start beating up a bunch of Atlas goons to reach the access point? Of course not. And itâs that flip-flopping thatâs the problem. Your heroes have to function differently than the villains in order for them to be heroes. Under that logic, our heroes havenât acted like heroes since mid-Volume 6 and itâs getting harder and harder to watch.

Especially when we take the scene before this into account. Yup, weâve still got Qrow gunning for Ironwood. Robyn bemoans the fact that they canât do anything, to which Qrow replies, âWe can do something. We can kill the man who put us here.â I⊠feel like I shouldnât start repeating myself given how long this recap isâweâll be here for forever lolâBUT I hope everyone reading this understands precisely how little this makes sense. How god awful a choice it is. I mean câmon. Robyn attacked Clover unprovoked, Qrow teamed up with Tyrian, he broke Cloverâs aura, Tyrian murdered him, Salem is here, and now heâs sitting in a cell with Watts and Jacques⊠but Ironwood is the guy he wants to kill? REALLY, QROW? THATâS WHO YOUâRE GOING TO GO AFTER? I really canât with this show sometimes. RWBY, put your clown makeup on.

We get a cut to Ironwoodâs image just so thereâs no confusion about who Qrow wants to help kill next and Joanna threatens that reporter who, you know, is also a citizen in need of help and protection⊠Her âGeneral Ironwood has abandoned you, but we have notâ sounds absolutely ridiculous when we just watched her intimidating this guy to get what she wants. âYou can trust us! Unless we randomly decide we donât like you.â I have other things to say about Yang calling out that racist woman later on, but she gets props for helping her regardless. Honestly, I donât get that sense from the cast very often: that theyâd help you even if they donât agree with you. They certainly didnât offer that to Ozpin, Ironwood, or the Ace Ops.

Thereâs a very long shot of a scared toddler staring out the window, just to hammer home how young and innocent Mantle is. Seriously, pay attention to our imagery: Mantle is scared children in homes, cute children fist-bumping Jaune, family photos lost in the street, a stuffed toy run over by hoverbikes. Itâs meant to evoke a general sense of domesticity and, again, innocence. Meanwhile, Atlas is only shown via Ironwood and Jacques, the villains. Where are the families living up in the sky? The children? The humanizing details? Our racist woman is an outlier who is quickly silenced by Yang. The rest of Mantle is characterized as victims: scared women, worried fathers, the faunus huddling together in the slums, even another racist who, while an asshole, is supposed to have a point about things like the embargo. Which is all true. These characters are all of these things, itâs just that theyâre not unique in this. All this exists above tooâfrom those families, to the faunus slave labor, to the beloved objects that remind you of someoneâs worthâbut theyâre ignored to provide a simplistic look at Atlas as the villain.Â

Throughout this entire episode the group tosses out snide remarks about how âTheyâ donât care about you and itâs just⊠they who? The other thousands of innocents who have nothing to do with Ironwood? The hundreds of Mantle citizens you already evacuated? The redeemable people like Winter and Whitley? The group fights alongside a Schnee who was one of the most vocal racists a year and a half ago, yet writes off the entirety of Atlas as the bad guys. What a mess.

As Joannaâs voiceover finishes, we cut to Yangâs group going after Pietroâs tech. I already covered this scene in our promo material, but to summarize here: horrible tone. Absolutely nonsensical given the situation. Salem is here and Yang is giggling over bikes. In fact, the tone is off for most of the episode (our end being the wonderful exception): Yangâs joy ride, antics with the Mantle citizens, Blake poking fun at Weiss, the tube scene⊠none of it fits the context of the seriesâ big bad here to kill everyone. Arguments along the lines of, âBut it canât be doom and gloom all the timeâ or âThis is a brilliant parallel to Volume 3 with happy times heralding tragedyâ donât erase the fact that our cast isnât taking this threat seriously. Last week Weissâ âWeâre never going to sleep againâ moment worked because itâs humor in the context of how bad everything is. All of this? Itâs just the group goofing off despite supposedly being in mortal danger. This?

This doesnât read well. Iâd argue this scene is even worse in context due to lines like âThe others are definitely missing out.â In our promo material I assumed that the group just split for the sake of splitting and they were, in fact, just missing out on something cool. But weâve since learned that they split due to a fundamental disagreement about how to help people, a split Ruby compared to Salemâs plans, a split that Yang started! Why is she now acting like their separation is a funny âmissing outâ moment? Itâs like if half your friend group decided to go to the movies while the other half went to a party with an unexpectedly good DJ. The movie-goers are people who are âmissing out,â not the group who went off to take over a military base and everyone left angry.
Keep in mind that Ozpin is also back. Every fun times scene with Oscar in it has the added problem of Ozpin hanging back, not saying anything, not acknowledged, still a secret.
The other issue I brought up weeks back was the lack of grimm. Why are the streets deserted? Shouldnât the army be overrunning the city? Well, turns out that thereâs no army because⊠Salem just hasnât bothered to send it into the city yet? When Jaune and Ren take out the low-level grimm Oscar asks if theyâve âalready pushed this far in,â to which Yang replies, âNo, I think those are from last night.â A few minutes later, last nightâs grimm change to new non-Salem grimm as Oscar observes, âItâs the negativity. Salemâs forces arenât moving in, but itâs enough to attract the stragglers.â Later still, Joanna asks, ââŠgrimm are circling out there. What are they waiting for?â GOOD QUESTION. We donât know, but itâs real convenient, isnât it? RWBY redeems itself a bit at the end of this episode with that Hound grimm, but Iâm still calling it out for having Salem hold off long enough for the group to evacuate pretty much all of Mantle and infiltrate the base. Thatâs real nice of her. As the characters keep pointing out, it would be a staggeringly different situation if they were overrun with grimm right now, huh? Kind of like the situation Ironwood (rightfully) assumed theyâd be dealing with.
Again, Iâm so glad our Big Bad is kind enough to let the heroes do everything they need to before lifting a finger to attack them.
RWBY seems to be setting up a, âSee! There was always time to evacuate the city!â accusation even though no one could have known that and it makes zero logical sense. Salem brings an army with her so she can not use the army against Atlas? RightâŠ

This all segues directly into our other promo scene. My initial comments still stand: the tone doesnât work, the lack of urgency doesnât work (Jaune playing with the kid, Oscar politely knocking on doors), the low-level grimm are not a threat, that shield is useless against anything not driven by plot convenience, and itâs weird for Jaune to be yelling, âHeads up!â when thereâs no one in front of him. As said, this moment really doesnât sit well given everything thatâs going on. I had hoped that it would read better when seen in the episode itself, but thatâs sadly not the case. Â
After Ren one-shots the grimm Jaune suggests that they use his amplified semblance to get everyone to the crater safely. Ren seems less than pleased about this, but agrees. Right now, itâs easy to say that heâs in a bad mood because Nora is mad at him, but what about the Volume before? Whereâs this underlying tension coming from? I can come up with lots of theories, but at some point the show needs to confirm something. The longer we go not explaining whatâs wrong with Ren, the less faith I have that it will make sense when we get it.

We see the racist woman upset that they have to go live with the âanimals in the slumsâ rather than going up to Atlas. As said, I like that Yang helps her despite clearly hating the woman, I also think her criticism holds up well (ignoring the simplified âThey abandoned youâ narrative). The only thing that bugs me is RWBY continually presenting racism as a problem to throw a band-aid on and then pat yourself on the back for âsolving.â Racist drunk says shit? Toss him in the trash! Racist woman says shit? Remind her that her survival depends on you! Itâs not that these responses arenât earned, but that weâre given them instead of an actual arc that tackles the complexities of this issue. I mean, Blake has abandoned the White Fang and weâve barely mentioned the faunus slave labor in Atlas. When they head to the dust facility itâs conveniently run by bots instead of faunus. Can you imagine if Weiss Schnee walked into a group of exploited minorities, hoping to use them to access a military base? But of course, thereâs nothing like that. RWBY ignores the actual issues for these simple solutions. Heroes just attack/threaten racists and then it all goes away. Yay.
The other problem with this scene is that we learn the crater is the slums. Um⊠what? Hold on, Joanna made it sound like itâs a separate place, potentially inhabited by grimm, yet itâs the same area Oscar was in last episode? How is that area warmer? This makes no sense to me.
Also, ha, the crater below Atlas apparently houses all the âanimalsâ that Team RWBYJNR is very protective of. Iâm waiting for them to do something that messes with the StaffâRuby reaching for it in the openingâAtlas crashes down on a whole city of exploited minorities, and then Ironwood is blamed for it somehow. Canât wait for that episode.
So the group starts making their way there and hark! An Ozpin! Iâm always thrilled to hear him, even if heâs treated just terribly by the show. Oscar is at the back of the group and comments that âIt should not be this hard just getting people to cooperate.â Except⊠they are cooperating? Oscar, you are watching them cooperate right in front of you. That one woman might grumble a bit, but she hasnât made a move or said a word about not doing what you say. Where did this complaint come from? Another example of RWBY insisting something is there when it simply isnât. More importantly, Ozpin responds:
âAnd yet, itâs becoming something Iâm increasingly concerned about.â
âYou know, I really donât need your additional comments right now.â

Then why did you comment out loud, Oscar? What, do you normally talk to yourself like that? You were clearly speaking to Ozpin! Donât criticize him for responding. I hate traps like that.
Ozpin immediately says that Oscar has every right to be upset and apologizes for leaving⊠itâs not apologizing for his entire existence like I wrote on the bingo board, but itâs close. Whoâs surprised that Ozpin is the first to offer (another) apology? Not me. Oscar corrects him with, âIâm upset you came back!â
Okay. Hereâs the thing. I like the idea of Oscar rejecting Ozpin both because heâs taken over his life and because Oscar has suffered horribly due to Ozpinâs presence (punched, slammed into walls, kidnapping attempts, etc.) That makes sense, itâs actually morally complex, and itâs great groundwork for character growth. The only problem is⊠this came out of nowhere. Oscar was shown accepting this new life when he left the farm. Then again when he insisted on fighting Hazel. Then again all the times heâs been told heâs acting like Ozpin and seems to accept that just fine. Heâs clearly pleased with this new badass self heâs got going onâhe even says as muchâyet doesnât want to acknowledge Ozpin as the catalyst for all this positive change. Okay, thatâs something we could still work through, but what about the group? Fans are already theorizing that this is why Oscar is keeping Ozpin a secret, because heâs scared of how the group will react, punishing him to get at Ozpin again, and though he 100% has reasons for thinking that will happen, Oscar hasnât shown that fear before now. Qrow punches him? Bonding moment with Ruby. Jaune attacks him? I made you all dinner. They all smile over his inevitable death/disappearance? He smiles back. Yang is the most scream-y? Happy to have her using him as an armrest. The group continually ignores him and treats him with suspicion? Not a peep of protest. Itâs horrifying that Oscar accepted how the group previously treated him, but he did accept it. Where did this fear come from if we havenât seen it in response to the harm done towards him? Just as importantly, canât we have an arc where Oscar is mad at the team some too? Iâll admit that the general premise of blaming Ozpin makes sense for the traumatized fourteen-year old, but after two years of blaming Ozpin for everything⊠arenât we sick of this? His team has actively hurt him, outside of Ozpinâs ability to prevent, yet Ozpin is the one who takes all the heat for their behavior. âI felt like I was actually part of the teamâ should lead to the realization of, âHey, Yang shouldnât yell at both of us for things outside of our controlâ not, âHey, you should stay away forever because others have decided they donât like you.â
All of this following Ozpin saving Oscarâs life in the airship. Then saving his life again after Ironwood shot him. Our heroes are real grateful, huh. I hate that RWBY is taking another fave and doing them dirty, though I suppose I shouldnât be surprised.Â
Ozpin also mentions his magicâwould be nice if Oscar brought that up with the team!âand that he is now ârecollecting my longest held memories.â HeâŠis? When? Donât you think thatâs something important to show us? We keep being told that âthe mergeâ is occurring but not shown what that actually means. Seriously, when did Oscar get slammed with that many memories??
Please just use the aura machine and give Ozpin a robot body. RT doesnât have the chops for writing this situation.

As they continue on towards the crater Ren snaps at Jaune about not needing a âpep talk.â Jaune looks annoyed at the attitude which, fair. It says a lot about the writing the last few years that Jaune is the character Iâm least frustrated with lol. Likely because they havenât had him do anything lately which, given that heâs not one of the title characters and our cast is bloated enough as it is, Iâm still totally fine with.
Ozpin concludes the scene with, âWe need to find a way to work together. Not just the two of us, all of usâ with the camera panning up to look at Atlas. Iâm glad someone isnât ready to throw Ironwood under the bus. Given how the group reacted to him sparing Lionheartâs name though, I donât think theyâll follow Ozpin in his forgiveness. If anything, I expect this perspective to just be more hate fuel. Â

We move to Rubyâs group which now includes May. Woohoo! She still hasnât gotten half the screen time as Joanna, but Iâm really glad sheâs here. In fact, between a useful semblance and that adorable courtesy, I love her already. Despite, you know, helping the team break into the base and all that. Everyone has their flaws lol. Â
She also frames the Amity plan as getting the world âtalking again.â Why is everything presented like a fun romp rather than avoiding death via Salem? Absolutely terrible tone this episode.
The group hilariously waltzes past a sign labeled AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY and enters the dust facility with the bots I mentioned earlier. This I do like. My hypothetical scenario incorporating the racism issue aside, I like that Weiss is using her knowledge and connections to further the mission, rather than something conveniently dropping into the groupâs lap. Like Amity suddenly being ready for launchâŠSo yeah, it makes sense that Weiss would know of a potential way in. Â

Sending someone up through the tubes though? Ehhh⊠I know they have aura and everythingâand that Zwei was once mailedâbut are we sure this is safe?? Doesnât matter because Nora sends Weiss through with a misplaced button press. Good thing that was the tube heading to the base. Too bad Weiss is heading to a guarded military base alone. It should have been May going first with her semblance activated, but no. Chuck this onto the ever increasing âBad Toneâ pile. There should not be giggles over Weiss being in that level of danger, especially with everything else going on. Rubyâs expression is the only one on point.

Before Weiss is yeeted off though, Penny and Ruby have a talk wherein Ruby lies her ass off. Penny says, âI do not like it when friends fightâ and when Ruby starts talking about Yang she corrects her, revealing that sheâs actually thinking about Winter and Ironwood. âThey were our friends.â
I was ready to sing Pennyâs praises and really, she still gets credit for being the only one who has acknowledged this, but her opinion is (once again) overridden by Rubyâs. Penny goes, âbut then the Ace Ops attacked youâ which Ruby doesnât bother to correct. How would Penny know otherwise? The only information she has about that battle is what Ruby has told her, but Ruby is lying via omission here. The Ace Ops never attacked her. They very explicitly refused to start a fight. Ruby attacked them. Then when Penny is upset that Ironwood said âpeople were going to die because of me,â Ruby takes her by the shoulders and angrily insists, âThat was a lie and he was only saying it to hurt you.â

Ruby⊠youâre the one lying. You know damn well Ironwood didnât just say that to hurt Penny. Oh yeah, the general trying to keep a kingdom alive from an immortal witch is preoccupied with hurting Pennyâs feelings for no reason other than being evil. That makes sense. More importantly, Ironwood is right. Look, Iâm by no means blaming Penny for anything. She fought off Cinder, took the power when there was no other choice, and has now gotten caught up in Rubyâs plans which include incredibly misleading information that Penny has no reason to question. Sheâs doing her best and deserves that hug. But that doesnât mean she lacks responsibility here. Ironwood needs Penny to evacuate. Pennyâlistening to Rubyâwonât help him. Ergo, if something happens to the people up in Atlas Penny will be partly responsible. If I have the key to a door with lots of people trapped behind it as a fire rages, and I refuse to open that door, I have indeed allowed a lot of people to die. As Penny says, she didnât want this responsibility⊠but she has it. She has to deal with it. Too bad sheâs with Ruby who encourages her to ignore it instead, insisting that nothing bad that happens after their choices could in any way be connected to them. Kind of like Qrow ignoring his own actions against Clover.
Because thatâs the takeaway from this scene. Penny had empathy for their friends and then Ruby talked her out of it. She never even acknowledges that those were indeed seven friends that she betrayed. Thatâs horrible.
What happened to Ruby? I used to love this girl.
Continuing our tone issue, Nora is watching this show like her favorite soap is on. Okay then.

Weiss goes up the tube and then we cut to Fiona saying that⊠the Mantle police are helping them evacuate? So the military is bad, but the police are good? I need to stop trying to make sense of RWBYâs allegory.
When Yang and the others return Fiona makes an innocent comment about being worried about how theyâd fare without the rest of their team. Yang is pissed.

Ah, so weâre back to her giving allies attitude for random observations. Remember the anger at Marrow for suggesting she and Blake try different team-ups? Now here Yang is, in a different team-up, doing quite well. Funny how we never acknowledge who first suggested that. Now, Fiona reveals a totally logical worry that losing four fighters might make a difference when fending off grimm, but Yang is poised to be angry at everyone, about everything, all the time. Which I get is something that a lot of fans like. Iâve already seen a couple of posts praising RT for letting Robyn and Yang be angry without consequences because women often canât do that and, fair. That is indeed one way to read it. My problem is that their anger is actually irrational, not just called as much because we women are ~emotional~. Their anger isnât justified: Robyn because she had a significant hand in all this nonsense (that sheâs ignoring) and Yang because itâs clear Fiona means no harm here. This is anger that needs to be called out, not ignored because yay women expressing emotion. That kind of defense is reserved for a womanâs justified anger that needs to be expressed without criticism, especially in a narrative that tries to undermine her perspective. But what has Fiona done to Yang? Nothing. More importantly, the show has yet to teach Yang a better coping mechanism than lashing out at people, be it with her fists, words, or angry glares. Yang has been through the ringer and it makes sense that sheâs angry, but that doesnât mean she gets a lifelong pass to treat those around her badly.Â
Anyway, Joanna says they have a lot of people to keep warm even though the crater was supposed to be warmer? And theyâre stealing dust? So what are they using it for it not heat? Weâre not seeing any difference here and frankly all the civilians should be dead by now. Or at least entering hypothermia. (Give me that conflict: how do you keep people safe when theyâre not all conveniently up for walking all the way to the slums?) Joanna also says that theyâre trying to get the âOld mine shafts into a livable conditionâ which would take how long exactly? In fact, Iâd say our timeline is already wonky. Weâve watched Yang hide the Ace Ops last Volume, fly to Winter and Penny, find the Happy Huntresses, wait around for Oscar to show up, ran off on her own at some point to scout, went to get bikes, evacuated all those people to the (far away) slums, then went back out to fight off the grimm. That had to have taken up a good chunk of the night, though itâs impossible to tell the time with Atlasâ snowy sky. Iâm leaning towards a bingo mark thoughâŠ
The faunus who I thought was a badger or something is⊠a bear I guess? He has a bear-like paw, but his nails seem too long⊠I honestly donât know. But heâs Fionaâs uncle! Cute. She's off to deal with a fight thatâs starting while the group goes to fight more grimm. Finally, the episode gets good.

The teamwork to take out the dragon grimm was nice, always glad to see it, but the real fight starts when two more grunts show up and then immediately run away. What could have scared them off?

The Hound. (Iâm sorry, all I can think of is Game of Thrones when I write that, but it seems to be the name the fandom is adopting, soâŠ) Remember how I said it was unlikely to be a threat on its own? I WAS WRONG. Holy shit this thing is terrifying. It snatches Oscar and in some wonderfully quick animation absolutely obliterates the kid. Oscar is thrown around like a chew toy, desperately trying to rabbit kick at this thing and it does [checks notes] absolutely nothing. Iâd normally say something about our farm boy always getting the shit kicked out of him, but this scene was too good for my salt.

Then it changes shape, growing arms, and starts using Oscar as a shield. Yang canât pull back in time and is snagged by her head, the Hound tossing her into the wall hard enough to break the stone. Sheâs still conscious though and warns the others about its strategy.

âBut grimm arenât that smart,â Jaune says. Maybe if you kids (Fiona keeps calling them kids) had stayed in school you would have learned that grimm get smarter with age! Oobleck knew that. Or, just as likely, this is a special Salem grimm. Hard to say at this point.
The point though is that the group is helpless in the face of this monster. I do want to emphasize this. Iâve seen a few people criticizing them for not doing enough to save Oscar and itâs like, what did you want them to do? Yang tried to attack and the grimm nearly had her hitting Oscar instead. Ren tried to attack and the grimm changed so fast his weapon was useless. Factor in that morphingâwhich the group has never seen beforeâthe horror of Oscar hanging there limp, and the general fighter response of, âI canât just keep attacking head on because that thing might kill me,â and you realize the group was screwed from the start. They canât stand up against this thing, not without a good strategy anyway, which thereâs no time to think up. For the first time in years, ever since Tyrian, Salem actually made the right, villainous call.

Ren screams, âGive him back!ââwhich was just lovely in an angsty wayâand the grimm creepily cuddles Oscar against his chest. Then he responds, âNo.â Yeah, theyâve never seen that before either. Can you blame them for their shock? Iâm impressed that they were on their bikes just seconds later, managing to keep the grimm in sight. That speaks to their combat experience. Not the ability to power through a situation where theyâre clearly outmatched, but their ability to pick themselves back up and try again.
... Ah, so thatâs why Pietro was oh so randomly making them bikes. The plot needed a way for them to keep up with a flying grimm. Got it.

My takeaway? RT should be writing horror. Theyâre far better at it. The animation, sound effects, voice acting, the grimmâs speech and protective instincts, that splatter of goo on Oscarâs cheekâŠÂ

... stellar all around. Like the Apathy, this is the best I think RWBY has been since the lore episode of Volume 6. Granted, action sequences like this arenât required to grapple with any of the messy morals and character consistency of other scenes, but still. If RWBY had just given me a lighthearted âGirls fight cartoon monstersâ show or a horror fueled âGirls fight monster abominationsâ show, Iâd have been happy. This? This is the only redeeming part of the episode. And itâs indeed one hell of a redemption. Look at this thing!

Iâm not going to say it erases all the bad we gotâit doesnâtâor that it likewise erases problems like Salem not using the rest of her army, but itâs a notable step in the right direction. This grimm is a threat. This grimm is a mountain the cast has to overcome. If this is the minion its master should be Everest. I still think this Volume is going down the tubes fast (itâs going the way of Weiss lol), but if it can give me more scenes like this? It might not be a total loss.
Last thing to acknowledge: What about Ozpin? Iâll admit it doesnât look good. Given how fast he takes control he should have been able to override Oscarâs will and at least fight back a little with that spectacular magic we saw during the finale. So why didnât he? I hope we get an in-world explanation: it happened so fast even Ozpin couldnât do anything (shaky, but Iâll take it in a pinch), now that the merge is farther along he can no longer take controlâsomething. Because I can easily imagine how quickly the fandom, and even the cast, will turn on him for not playing deus ex machina here. In reality, I think Ozpin didnât take control simply because the plot needed him not to. The writers needed Oscar kidnapped so any potential out from that is conveniently forgotten⊠which is another knock against their writing, despite how great the scene otherwise was. The point is to take all these potential pushbacks and find a satisfying way to circumvent them, not pretend they donât exist. RT can still save themselves here by providing that explanation later, so I hope theyâre smart enough to do that. Ozpin has been blamed for everything at this point. His own kidnapping doesnât need to be added to the list.
Also, still no word on Schrödinger's councilman. Weâve got to wait another week to see whether heâs dead or not.
Finally, letâs update the bingo card!
Iâm crossing off âRuby gives an âinspiringâ speech built on ignoring facts she doesnât likeâ for that conversation with Penny. Yeah, itâs a speech to her alone about her worth, but Ruby mischaracterized the situation so badly Iâm mad at her lol
I never thought the story would straight up just not have the grimm army attacking, so I think Iâll hold off on âArmy of grimm conveniently doesnât kill any civiliansâ until we see if/when it gets involved.
Iâll likewise hold off on the timeline slot until we see how bad things getâŠ
Maria is on thin ice given that we have no idea what sheâs supposedly doing while the group is off on their missions. Stay tuned.
Today weâre crossing off âDeadly cold conveniently doesnât kill any civilians.â They should all be dropping like flies by now.
A friend pointed out that Cinderâs Cinderella flashback counts as an âOverly obvious fairy tale allusion.â In fact, I talked about how much of a shorthand that is, so thatâs getting a mark.
From last week Iâve also decided to include Amity for âRetconning previous lore.â Now that the group is fully underway with their plan it reads as even more egregious that we were told it wasnât ready.
Iâll hold off on Ozpinâs space for a while. See if he apologizes to the whole group and, if so, exactly what for.
âOscar is finally kidnappedââcheck!

Well, thatâs a whole lot of headway this week. Canât wait to see where the next episode takes us... Hereâs hoping we spend a lot of time with that Hound. MVP of the episode.
Until next time! đ
