Companions reaction to Modern!Tav who is a metalhead
I'll just indulge myself I guess.
Karlach:
Loves it the second she hears it
Hypes her up more than soul coins and that ain't even funny
She'll ask about your fav bands (mine is Avatar so hello if there's any fellow fan!)
Also how concerts looks like
"Ha! So there's a bit of barbarian inside of you!" is the line you get when you explain mosh pit to her
When her engine is cooled down you're not escaping two people mosh, trust me
Amused how you faced judgement yourself and been called a devil
You explain it gave you a need to defend the tieflings
You just simply knew how it feels
Besties forever no matter what
You rock out to heavier stuff like Rammstein or anything that can be headbanged to
"Soldier, if you can do it the whole evening then you're tougher thant I gave you credit for"
When you first use your growling scream during the battle that girl is deeply impressed
Even more if you actually managed to rage
Gale
Finds music a bit loud and chaotic at first
You immediately give him power metal and that shit gets him
Like fantasy stories told through the music? Pure bard experience
A bit skeptical about mosh pit, but when he hears how great it feels to you he understands or does his best to try to
Also sees a bit of barbarian in you after that
When he mentions that the best artists started among the sticky floors you're stoked because that's how the venue after the concerts feels like
You tell him about the undergrund concerts right away and promise him you'll take him to one just for the sake of the experience itself
In time he gets to like bands like Twilight Force and Blind Guardian
Also goes "wow" when you yell like an animal (he's getting horny at the post-battle Tav so)
Astarion
"Ugh, what's that noise?"
You do your best to explain but he just doesn't buy that
When you explain the usual activities occuring during the shows he also jumps on the bandwagon that you're secretly a barbarian
Or maybe bardbarian if you happen to have a band
You seek something lighter and EUREKA
Queen
You put on Bohemian Rhapsody the other evening and he's stoked
Other hits from them come to his liking too
He'll occasionally hum these tunes to himself
Gale overheard Queen playing at the camp and now he's obsessed too
Shadowheart
This one's easy
She's already an emo queen so
Buuut
Powerwolf becomes her favorite because of the religious themes of the songs and the fact they sound like battle hymns
You don't tell her Powerwolf mocks the most widely practiced religion so she doesn't send a guilding bolt on you she'd miss anyway
Falls in love with symphonic metal too because of the lyrics and vocals
When Gale mentions the sticky floor her usual comment switches to "Then you and Tav will get along perfectly well in the middle of the mosh pit"
Secretly wishes she could just leave everything and do that for an evening
Lae'zel
"Bah, another unwise custom. Impractical too"
She goes like that unless you tell her what mosh pit and headbanging are
Still thinks it's not the wisest way to spend time but applauds your ability to fuck everything and survive in the horde of people running into each other (usually way bigger than you)
Believes you can use that rage and stamina in battle, satisfied when you actually do that
Won't show you she's vibing to any music you like but she'll stop sharpening her sword when she hears Sabaton
Wyll
Definitely curious about the unusual music he hears
Even if he finds it noisy at first will pay attention to the layers of music and lyrics too
You comfort him by telling stories from the times you were told you're the devil just because of the music you listen to
Tbh he also likes Sabaton, because it honors the heroes as it should happen
Mosh pit? Headbanging? In his eyes you're really tough now
Also thinks you'd make an excellent barbarian
When you actually rage he's both terrified and impressed in your primal growl
Karlach will have to teach him how to mosh and not poke someone's eye out, but you'll manage
Halsin
He prefers calmer music, but at the same time he's curious
You give him folk metal and all is good
Especially if you put on some acoustic album
You tell him stories tied to the songs (like f.x. Eluveitie has songs about the helvets)
For him you're small but when you tell him how you regularly go into mosh pit with guys his size and you are not scared he's concerned he may call you a lunatic again
Since then he sees you as small but fierce and resillent
He's not a barbarian but seeing you unleash your primal nature through growl - he himself has a wild side so for a moment he admires you and then joins you in his bear form
He's an elf so I bet he can play a flute, he'll learn some folk songs in no time. If not, Jaheira does.

Revealing nondiagetic music to be actually diagetic way after is lovely, but what was lovelier was seeing how far fans ran with it.
Also. Hearing entire personal playlists people put together for their beloved characters is lovely. They express their own unique interpretation of these characters when words (and scene direction) fall short. We really had it good with the FMV era. Really hope this goes a little toward bringing it back, despite the copyright laws that were pretty much nonexistent back then.
Anyway my HW -> ShB Ardbert song is Alive or Undead by Powerwolf (specifically Nils Molin's vocals). In my head this is a ballad of his journey with his companions fighting a losing battle in the name of their icon (replace Father with Mother in the lyrics) just to end up undead all this time until resurrected and laid to rest by WoL, and it goes. so. hard. I hear his anger, his despair and his anguish and it's my hc precursor to EW Ardbert's more hopeful song.
Thank you for listening please reblog with a song that makes you feel very VERY strongly about a character. I want to watch the FMV that plays in your head and the lyrics you hear them sing.

Acts to Follow: Lyric Runners-Up ~
Our runners-up this week are @corporalotherbear, @i-am-the-one-who-wololoes and @yd12k!
@corporalotherbear — Timeless Perspective "Time Machine" by Miracle Musical
There were some really close calls for the winners this week, lemme tell you. I'm happy to put this card near the top, though, even though there are two things that I really want to change about it. The first is a clarification on wording, and it's a tricky one. The Parting of the Ways helps us word it, though, and you can basically copy-paste from the first chapter. Aside from that, though, you're playing with fire in a big way here and I love it. Exiling three game-changing spells, getting a card that would finalize a combo piece, threatening after a number of turns, all the cards about casting from exile... The really big spells wouldn't be too bad unless you have time counter manipulation, but even then, the fiddling you'd have to do would be too much to make this card a horrendous issue.
And the other thing that I wanted isn't so much a change as it is the fact that I want more. I'm imagining this card from someone's perspective, you know? It's not just about the wizard casting it, but it's the fact that this character—or player insert—has been waiting, and now they're so close that they just have to hang on until the thing that they're waiting for is impending. No more searching for answers, but they still have to wait for them. Maybe I've just been in a melancholy place poetically, but damn, the possibilities hit hard. I'm wondering about if this would've been a quote, or if you pictured this character as more powerful vs. more patient vs. desperate, etc. But this card's in the winning slot not just because it's a tricky blue effect that I love, but also because it's got that underlying emotional potential that I want to encourage.
@i-am-the-one-who-wololoes — Heretic Hunters "Call of the Wild" by Powerwolf
[Art description: we are in a sacristy, an open door barely in frame on the left shows the inside of the linked church. The furniture is destroyed or otherwise not in place. Two small werewolves, with remnants of red, stilish and rich clothes, are destroying an avacyn icon. On the ground there is a wounded human, with the same red clothes as the werewolves. Around them, three other humans (probably the family of the two werewolves) in the same red clothes are looking at the destruction, their faces a mix of fear and despair.]
Late entry to the list here, but damn if it's not effective. I think that there's a really interesting linguistic quirk where one isn't sure if the hunters are the heretics, or if the characters are hunters OF heretics. And I mean, yeah, they're destroying Avacyn's symbol, but to what end? (I'm picking up the pieces as we go along, thinking out loud, etc., if my thoughts seems scattered lol.) There are a lot of flavorful questions here. Non-transforming werewolves? Whole families/clans of them? One interpretation is that they've adapted the wilderness into a sacrosanct means of devotion, and followers of Avacyn are heretical in their eyes. But that's a lot of hidden lore that I'm not fully following. Still, maybe I'm overthinking it! Avacyn bad, wolves good. I'm on board with that.
I think with both the AD and the FT, I'd like a little more focus on the framing—i.e. who/what is at the center of what you're trying to describe? Some of these details get hard to follow without that, and with the FT in particular, having this lyric be a quote from a central figure really could have added some oomph. As for the mechanics, though, it's a super-solid and powerful card that could be a limited and even constructed slammer. Getting an on-curve fight spell with additional destruction on attack is nasty but simple and fulfills a rare slot that's more than reasonable. I really like these kind of simple but thoughtful cards, but that focus can really save the narrative. I will also say that the narrative of mechanics to implication is solid as well: first you beat up the priest, then once you win the fight you start smashing their stuff. We've all been there.
@yd12k — Mechanical Bowman "Tribes" by Michael Guy Bowman
Now you're not the only person to add a little cheeky aside towards their favorite artist or whatnot, but this one's pretty funny, and actually plays really well into what you're trying to accomplish here. The twist on a lyrical call to action being subverted into a robotic response has not gone unnoticed, and I can see where your inspiration came from. It's an odd kind of sadness that unfortunately borders on confusing, only because Bowman's lyrics seek to stir self-reflection for the listener, and there's lost irony for having it as a chant. That's all AP-English semantics, though, because the intent to turn it into a Bronzewrought chant from the construct's creators does make sense from a general perspective; the specificity of the original mood is what makes it a little hard to mesh.
Speaking of, I'll talk about this later, but do you see that semicolon in the last sentence I wrote? Now I just get to be the Ultimate Final AP-English Semantic Jerkface and use examples as corrections. TL;DR, the semicolon in your FT should've been a comma 'cause the second part isn't a complete clause in this context. ANYWAY, Magic cards! Could this have been an uncommon? Depending on the format, throwing a bunch of equipment and/or auras onto this can make the five toughness such a pain to deal with that it might just be fine as a frustrating rare. Having to attack each turn if able makes combat tricks that much more useful. It's only use is attacking and/or blocking bombs, though, so I honestly don't know how versatile it is, or if it's even versatile at all. It's certainly doing what it's built to do, and it's up here because I want to commend the work that went into making it a thoughtful card that deserves a thoughtful response. What can I say? Some things just stick with me and make me wanna talk. I like that. I like being here and talking to y'all.
I'm gonna try to get through as much as I can commentary-wise today, but per usual, gotta get my work in first. I'll update folks in the Discord server as the day goes on. @abelzumi

I know some of y'all's tastes, but I'd love to know what everyone's favourite bands/artists/musical genres are. <3
Tough question to ask! For some of these we've gone for vibes more than solid genres; since we're all parts of what should be one personality, we're like a group of people that grew up together. So we've kind of narrowed it down to what music makes us think "X would like this" or "this is X's vibe", as well as a few songs they (sometimes exclusively) like. Terry Moods: Duality, contradiction, mix of soft & harsh sounds, pass the aux cord at your peril because it's going to get weird Genres: Experimental, Glitch, Prog Rock, House Music, Nu Disco, Vaporwave, Outsider Music Examples: Deuteronomy - Clair De Lune Pink Floyd - Brain Damage Blank Banshee - Eco Zones
Chaos Moods: Psychedelic, Chaotic, Bassy, bouncing-off-the-wall madness Genres: Hair Metal, Bass Music, Moombahton, Drum & Bass, Jungle, Plunderphonics Examples: Bassnectar feat. Amp Live - Ugly The Prodigy - No Good (Start The Dance) Extreme - Play With Me Taffy Moods: "Spacey" vibes, themes of isolation, distance, and nature Genres: Braindance, Psychedelic Rock, Prog Rock, Prog House, Ambient Examples: Greenhouse - levällään David Bowie - Space Oddity Peter Gabriel - Down To Earth Andy Moods: Hyperactive, colorful, happy and nostalgic Genres: Speedcore, Happy Hardcore, Chiptune, Bubblegum Pop, Rock Examples: Anamanaguchi - Endless Fantasy Furries In A Blender - Wind Me Up Galactikraken - Best Band In The Universe Roy Moods: Lust, anger, violence, dark and moody, lyrics about yearning to be understood Genres: Dubstep, Power Metal, Harsh Noise, Neurofunk, Metalcore Examples: Bring Me The Horizon - Can You Feel My Heart Powerwolf - The Sacrament Of Sin Cookie Monsta - Mosh Pit VIP Dagwood Moods: Party time! Anything that's catchy or good to sing along to; happy, nostalgic, with a sense of bringing people together Genres: Pop, Parody, Electro Swing, Jazz Examples: Dexys Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen Lionel Hampton - It Don't Mean a Thing (Jazz Reconstruction Club Mix) Weird Al Yankovic - My Bologna Martin Moods: Simple and comforting; songs that are good to sing along to or emphasize a sense of togetherness, simplicity, and nostalgia. Genres: Indie, Melodic Pop, Europop Examples: Sleeping At Last - North Sigur Ros - Hoppipolla ABBA - Mamma Mia Vivien Moods: A sense of longing, or waiting for better times. Also likes songs that are good to sing along to, maybe to overcome those feelings that form the "basis" of their tastes. Genres: Synth Pop, Alternative, Britpop, Disco, Glam Rock Examples: Gorillaz - Melancholy Hill Coldplay - Paradise Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Black Summer Jenova Moods: Soft acoustic guitar and drums, soft lyrics, magical and fey-like Genres: Alternative, Indie, Pop, Folk Examples: Nirvana - Something In The Way Dodie - Ready Now Loreena McKennitt - The Mummers' Dance Thirteen Moods: Heartbreak, loneliness, distance, but with a hopeful tone Genres: Alternative, Pop, Geek Rock, Prog Rock, Jazz Fusion Examples: The Cure - Just Like Heaven Ludo - Drunken Lament Journey - Faithfully

Powerwolf doesn't take anything seriosly and No prayer at midnight might just be about sex....
but lemme switch to analysis mode for a sec to ramble because I think I'm seeing commentary on hypocrisy and/or religious criticism.
So the overall story seems to be about this small parish who obedient serve the lord and the clock with the lead of their priest. However when the clock turns to midnight all religious principles seem to become obsolete and they revel in sin. I don't know wether this is part of the religion (so they serve during the day to make up for the sins they commited at midnight or maybe partying isn't even a sin if you do it at midnight) or if the parish is rejecting religion for the night even if they shouldn't. Maybe the video is about hypocrisy of being a believer who rejects their faith at night to sin, or then not.
At the end the priest breaks the clock, stopping it to midnight forever which could symbolise breaking free from the cycle of sin and repent? Or rejecting religion all together? (Maybe to keep sinning forever?)
Its the second verse that keeps me thinking:
(Copy pasted from Genius, but they had some holes which I tried to fill s cording to my best ability)
Never dare to unattend the sermon
For the mass is what you can't betray
Any given day we praise the lord
Its all we must obey
Send your (???) in your final hour
We remember all the rights (?) who/to say
May your body rest in peace and prayer any night and day
(Pre-chorus)
No! Break out of sainted holy fire
I said no! Wait for the end on burning pyre
I'm considering what is the message / story they are going on this part specifically. In the music video Attila is walking around the "church" and pointing (holier than thou -kinda way) to the parishians cleaning the place where they missed a spot. This is probably my bias, but I see a religious leader using religion as leverage to make his followers work for him. (I mean they might also be doing it voluntarily as a community and they just have a leader making quality checks in which case this video isn't criticising religion)
When you combine this with the lyrics it seems like the song is encouraging to break free from binding religion (or reject it just for nighttime, and in the morning everything goes back to normal) because "no prayer can testify" (during midnight?)
The pre-chorus that really gets me, because it tells "to break out of sainted holy fire" which I interpret specifically as breaking out of religious rules which are imposed with the threat of hell and eternal torture. The word choice "sainted holy fire" is interesting because it gives this idea that it's messed up that a fire which is supposed to hurt you has been made sacred and you should break free from that.
If we read "end on burning pyre" to mean Hell (because cremation wasn't traditionally part of a christian burial even though today it is normal) the above point is emphasized even more with rejection to just wait to end up in hell, Kinda like saying "No, I'm not going to fear for Hell anymore or wait for afterlife"
Now, "end on burning pyre" could also mean funeral and/or death, which gives another interesting interpretation where the message is "I refuse to think of my mortality" or "I cast away my fear of death to live in the moment"
I don't believe that this is necessarily what the band is trying to say. I'm probably looking too deeply into this. I might also be misguided by my personal bias because I look at Powerwolf from atheist/agnostic perspective, so I'd appreciate if other people could share they thoughts about this.

I got tagged by @qbert0 to post the 10 first songs on shuffle from my spotify on repeat playlist! Thank you, this looks fun!
As a disclaimer, I haven’t listened to spotify for a while, since my phone wouldn’t recognize my headphones...so some of these songs are such that I haven’t actually listened to them for a while. Oh well!
1. The Next Right Thing - Kristen Bell
A song from Frozen 2 to start with, haha. It struck a chord with me when things were hard, and I guess it has stayed here!
2. I Can’t Decide - Scissor Sisters
First time I heard this was in an animation of The Adventure Zone (beware spoilers if you follow the link!), and it’s just kinda funky! Lyrics are a little strange, but that’s part of the charm.
3. Fires Fade - Miracle of Sound (ft. Sharm)
An epic symphonic Dark Souls song! I’m starting to think if all my songs are going to be linked some kind of a franchise...
4. Wait For Me (Reprise) - Hadestown
This song is nice and tragic and from a musical, right up my alley! At one point it also resonated with me in a little different way - sometimes it’s hard to keep up with life.
5. Far From Heaven - Battle Beast
Originally discovered as a song one of my DMs had for an NPC, but then I slowly discovered more songs from the band...and even listened to them twice from my apartment + from the steps of a church as they performed nearby :D
6. Ordinary - Joriah Kwamé, Allie Grace
A little flustered song about love and being yourself. Many interpretations to be had, but I’ve also first discovered this through an Ace Attorney animation, haha.
7. Here Comes A Thought - Steven Universe
A calm song with a nice message. I used to use this to lull my twin sister to sleep when she was over, hehe.
8. Freedom - The Wolves Within - Epica
A great song for one of my PCs - when you are that heroic, you gotta make some choices!
9. The Record Player Song - Daisy The Great
A kind of a calm song, easy to hum. Maybe it’s the repetitiveness that gets me? :D
10. Incense & Iron - Powerwolf
Is it a good time to reveal almost all of the metal songs on this list were recommended to me by my partner? Well, this one (and the Dark Souls one) was not! This one was suggested by another lovely friend. A real sweet one ~
--
I’m tagging @isbarritired, @thoughtfullyrainynightmare and @maxime-cpt! Only if you want to, though :D

People calling it ai is wild, like it sounds like an anime opening? I know the lyrics can't be ai, the lyrics are too specific for that. Basically every line has a reference so even if they did ai the lyrics they'd have to go back and basically change every line to the point its basically a completely different song because they'd have to change the flow to accommodate and everything.
If they're calling the singer ai then also listen to warriors path before coming to the conclusion, the amount of range between the two songs doesnt feel like ai to me
Plus they also have a list for their band in the about, Anthony Stewart is credited as the singer and they're planning to release an album, if it was ai it'd be a lot easier to just....not give a fake credit then and not list band members, most people won't go looking for that information
And while there isn't a LOT of information about these guys (makes sense, they just started uploading music over the past like three days) They also mention in the comments of Warriors Call about paying royalties to the artist for pictures, which the art does trace back to 2014 so thats DEFINITELY not ai, though i kind of doubt they actually have the correct person it's hard to be certain with old reposted everywhere anime vibes art but at least they're trying
I've listened to a lot of metal that sounds just like this kind of song, so maybe im just more used to the eccentricities of it, but like, gives me powerwolf vibes
It's possible! I won't say it's not, but I just straight up think there's nothing that screams ai, the lyrics are good, the singing is a bit stiff at times but they are a new band, ive heard far too many singers with that kind of pop-punk accent warriors call uses to see it as an immediate red flag. If it is, then egg on my face, however calling it ai with so little information before they've even dropped their first album that they're planning to do next month seems very short sighted
Edit: The second art likely is ai generated I will admit, however, you can find dozens of similar looking ai cat pictures on free image sites, which means there's a decently high chance they just went looking for a cool free cat picture and went "oh that looks cool and we can use it!" like they did for the first song.
TLDR; I think it's too early to fully tell until they drop their album or more songs, could be, could not be, rather support an ai musician for like 15 days and have them turn out to be an ai musician then discourage a real beginner band, and at the very least the lyrics are almost certainly real
Thank you youtube for telling me about a fucking warrior cat themed rock band???

Hi! Some time ago you reblogged my Beast of Gévaudan artwork and talked in the tags about the french version of the song. I've been thinking about it ever sense and was wondering if you would like to share thoughts about it as a french speaker? Do you have comments about the translation or perhaps something that non-french speakers miss because they don't know the language? Also how is Attila's pronunciation? Also no preasure to answer if you don't want to
Hello Carina-Skull ! Thank you for your ask ! 😁
I understand your curiosity haha, I would be like you if they'd ever write a song in finnish ! By the way I still love your Beast of Gévaudan art it's so awesome !
• For the Translation, it's true it would have been cool if the French version had some interesting lyrics that weren't in the original. But in my opinion it's quite the opposite, because the English language has shorter words so they can had more.
For Exemple, in the bridge of the original version, it says:
"In the night no man can run from the Beast of Gevaudan. No escape from the fate of a martyr born in pain."
While the french version says :
"In the night there's rustlings of the Beast of Gévaudan. No one can escape from the wrath of a martyr." (it sounds good in the french language, but in my opinion the meaning is better in english.)
Also the major part of the french translation is loyal to the original, there are just some words changing in order to fit rhymes and syllables, just like in the chorus for example:
• Also I was super curious to know how did they proceed to translate, if they did it by themselves or if they had help. I found the answer in an interview (in french) with Falk and it's actually both haha :
Powerwolf draws a lot of inspiration for their songs from historical facts, legends, religious myths. And we live near the French border. We had already had the idea ten years ago to do something with the story of the beast of Gévaudan, but we did not have the song that could go with it. We made a French version of it. François Blanc, who is a journalist in the rock press and has also been a good friend for years, helped us write the lyrics. We tried to translate them into French ourselves, but we weren't sure of the result. Somewhere, it's also a way to pay tribute to our fans in France. - Falk Maria Schlegel
• About Attila's accent, to be honest when I heard the song for the first time there were just few words I couldn't get :( I had to listen to it few more times to understand, but apart that he is super good ! 9,9/10 Attila !!!
• I'm super big fan of the french version, I listen to it way more than the original, I'm happy they took the time to do it I love Powerwolf so much 😁!
#Thank you again for your ask !#sorry i took time to answer i wanted my post to be the most perfect i could ;-;#powerwolf#ask#💛💛💛

Songs for Thinking
Listen to songs while writing or imagining scenes like I do? Well, I got no art to post so I’m in a song mood so bear with me as I make these random text posts lol I want to compose a handy list of songs I know that fit certain themes? If that makes sense, but hope they help you find the right tunes for your mood setting needs
Feel free to suggest more to the list or help me sort them better, I tried to describe what the songs felt like but some might be strange or unfitting bc I didn’t know how to best describe them lol just let me know!

Extremely good question. I shall make this a "top 5 metal albums if you usually don't listen to metal", okay? Bear with me, you might actually like this. Here we go!
We need to start with a classic. Iron Maiden's "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" was the first metal album I bought. It was 1988, and it was supposed to be a concept album – yet, it not fully is. Half of the songs are telling a fantasy story, influenced by a book by Orson Scott Card, but there has always been a controversy about the rest of the songs. The album contains one of my all-time-favorite songs, "Can I Play With Madness" which has a really fun video:
youtube
While Iron Maiden is one of the classic metal bands, the next band is way younger. Brothers of Metal is a swedish band, founded in 2012. They're focusing on nordic mythology, but in a ... well, fun way, including costumes and all. My favorite album is "Emblas Saga". It's full of melodic and funny songs - essentially, the whole band was supposed to be just a fun project.
I do actually like every song of this album, but if I'd had to chose, my favorite is probably "Theft of the hammer" – essentially, to quote the lyrics, "The adventure of the bride / And how Thor regained his pride".
Now, while Ylva Eriksson from Brothers of Metal is no doubt a great singer, the metal genre is not short of those. Let me direct you to Avantasia and "Moonglow", my favorite album of the band.
Avantasia is more than just a band, it's a project by german singer Tobias Sammet, consisting of a bunch of awesome guest musicians and an ambitious underlying story. Well, it's all a bit complicated and there are people way deeper into Avantasia that can explain this a lot better, but, anyway, from "Moonglow", my favorite is The Raven Child. Not only but certainly also because of Hansi Kürsch. (❤️)
Okay, one more of the powerful melodic ones, shall we? What? You'd like some werewolves or vampires? Well, both is good, right? And Powerwolf can deliver. Powerwolf is somehow another of these fun bands, but then also a bunch of great entertainers with a whole story around the "metal mass". One of their best albums, to me, is Call of the Wild.
Powerwolf are very, uh, powerful on stage. If you watch a concert video, they not only seem very energetic and very engaging with the crowd, they also seem to be just a bunch of supernice guys. From this album, my favorite is (really, just next to Beast of Gevaudan) "Dancing with the Dead". I just LOVE the video.
youtube
We have one more! This was all very nice and melodic, right? And they all ... well they can sing, and you heard that metal singers are only growling and screaming! What about that?! Oh. Sure. But since this is a post for an easy, slow approach to metal, we're not gonna dive deep into this topic (but, of course, there are sub genres to metal, and we were barely scratching on the surface of power metal so far). What I do like very much are bands that combine nice voices with growlers (check out Amaranthe!). Harder than Amaranthe, but still not very near to bands like Amon Amarth, is In Flames. Man, I love In Flames so much! My favorite album is Foregone (the bonus edition):
And my favorite song here is "Foregone Pt. 2". Whenever he starts with the "Nothing is holy for the clouded eye" part I'm freaking out, his voice! Is! So good!
Ah, nevermind my raving :) This was my very personal and anything but objective introduction to a small part of metal. One, that's obviously dear to my, some of my favorite bands and favorite songs. Thank you for letting me share this, and I hope you will find it at least a tiny bit interesting!
Gonna throw this out to my tens of followers :
I'm trying to expand my musical repertoire-- if you feel like it, tell me what your top 5 albums are-which ones you never get tired of, and if you like, which track is your favourite?

Sup Mel, so funny with the headcanon about the metalhead S/O and that you used Sabaton and Powerwolf (which I just discovered at that time) my favs metal bands at the moment. And it got me thinking if there was any chance that the S/O could pull the admiral to a concert. How will they act during the metal concert?! *Salute
*salute back* Hey there, you know I would pay good money to see this.
Sorry for the long wait anon. Hopefully you still like it.
WILL IT ROCK OR WILL IT METAL?
You didn't know how it happened, but you were glad all the same
Your friend managed to snatch two tickets for the upcoming concert of Sabaton and you planned to go with them, but they could not due to some unexpected circumstance, so you had now a spare ticket
And your husband was the perfect victim candidate to go with. Now the hard part was to drag him there physically.
Fortunately for you, that time the stars were in your favour, and by some unknown means we shall never know, you two went to the concert. At first he was, not in a good mood, the noise was grating his ears fairly quick, but you managed to make him appreciate the night, when your favorite song came up
And of course it talked about marines, and he had to admit , the band was good, and the songs…quite enjoyable. He ended up having a good night, although to the untrained eye he may have stuck out like a sore thumb, to the mass of head bangers and metal lover
Though this doesn’t mean he will come with you at another anytime soon
Unlike his colleague, he was more than happy to accompany you to your concert, and although he didn't actively dislike the genre, it wasn't his cup of tea either
Anyway, Powerwolf banners were all over the town and you couldn't help but bounce up and down in joy. You were so cute like that
The concert started and it felt magical, and you have to admit, you knew that he was enjoying himself behind that poised facade
How did you know? There was this particular song that made him quite interested in this group, and let's say, he sang it a lot at home
Well, you managed to take him to the dark side and you're hella proud of that. You could now shout their lyrics without becoming red as a tomato
And I'd dare say, you went to more concert there after and suddenly more merchandise found space in your home. And the funny thing is that he denied liking the group, yep
How?
Just how? He's so lazy that he almost doesn't do his work, and yet he's here, at a concert of Gloryhammer, singing with you like he's a schoolboy
What did you do to him? Are you some kind of magician? Did you bewitch him?
And the scandalous thing is HE was the one who proposed the idea of going to the concert in the first place
Well, it would not be good to cry on spoilt milk, but he was still baffled by his sudden willingness to do something
Well, there is also the fact that he now knows every lyrics of every damn album, and he has them stored in a special room
Needless to say that after that spur of the moment he ain't going to do nothing for a Month, uhuh he is dann tired and he lost all his energy in that few hours of concert.

a simple call of the wild review that is totally professional and not way too detailed by me (February)
It's gonna be a bit of comparing to previous powerwolf albums/songs and remember everything is my own opinion. If you disagree/agree we may talk about it in a civilized way, I actually love talking to others about this shit!
But otherwise (hate, insults, etc.) you can keep your opinion somewhere where I can't see it :) Also, the album has barely been out for a day and things change with time and I may grow to like certain things more. (but there's not too much that I don't like tbh) But I hope you enjoy this metalhead-gremlin's ramblings!
Faster than the flame
I had to listen to it quite a few times before I could say anything about it. It's a powerful start into the new album, however, it is (as previously stated) powerful but didn't blow me away like the first songs on the previous albums. (Fire &forgive, Blessed &possessed, amen & attack - wait am I just now noticing a pattern here? oh my god. Anyway.) Maybe I got that personal feeling that I want it to be Fire & Forgive, which is, of course, not possible and would be boring. So i think I'm not even critizing the song but rather the order of the songs.
It feels like a typical powerwolf song; both lyrics and instrumental. Fast, heavy, something about flames and burning - awesome. The two Latin parts (I think it's called the pre-chorus? man, I have no idea and will just throw around these words because my internet connection is too bad to look this up. But if you listen, you'll know which parts I mean.) already give me goosebumps. I also really, really liked the bridge (again?? idk??) aka the "flame, flame, burning wild in heavens name" part. This was the most memorable part for me after the first time listening. Of course, the guitar arrangement throughout the whole song is just... god bless. I must say that using the word "pastor" is dangerous because my stupid brain keeps thinking Attila is singing about "pasta" again... Oh well, moving on!
Beast of Gevaudan
Man, I've been listening almost non-stop since it was released as a single! At first, my head was comparing it somewhat to army of the night but after a few times this feeling was gone and it became an awesome new idea/song. The choir and orchestra part are so well placed and support the rest of the instrumental and Attila's voice perfectly. Again, much fast, very powermetal. I've grown very fond of the guitar solo. The lyrics tell us a little about the story of the beast and I. Love. Storytelling. In. Songs. Glad matthew finally came around to put his idea out there!
This song also has a video, which left me speechless at first. I love Attila's acting so much??? And making this sort of their own story of Jesus was such a cool idea. Production is high quality as well (didn't expect anything less after The Sacrament of Sin MVs) and there were really nice shots in there. I doubt that I will get tired of this song and this video anytime soon!
Dancing with the dead
That choir stuff in the beginning, following by that awesome guitar riff already had me. I couldn't stop listening to this one either. This might be, in my opinion, the most catchy song on the whole album. The intruments are in perfect harmony with Attila's heavenly voice. The transition into the guitar solo is so damn smooth and well done. I'm having a whole crisis about how good this song is.
The lyrics are interesting too! Again, there's a story to be told. As far as I can interpret it, being introduced to some darker powers and growing to enjoy them, despite previously having lots of faith, is what's going on here. It has this slight feeling of... corruption (in a good way of course). This makes me want to go dancing (with the dead)
This one also has a video! Once again, very high quality. Every band member had their "special moments/shots" and just looked stunning. But Attila left them all behind this time. Slow dancing, in a suit, with that smirk on his lips??? Well done, my dude.
Varcolac
This one's dark and heavy. It brings me back to the good ol' times of Lupus Dei and Bible of the Beast. Just with more orchestra, choir and overall harmony. It makes me so happy that Powerwolf is using so many real life legends and figures on this album! And they did such a good job with them as well. If this song was alive, it would be a scary beast.
The typical metal elements and orchestra/choir parts are very well balanced. And the organ throughout the whole song is fitting. It supports the dark and sinister feeling of the whole thing. My favourite part may be the "And as army we bing fire..." parts! Man, I just love werewolves. Also, I think Attila's famous gibberish singing made a return in this one!
Alive or undead
Oh boy, here we go. The piano in this one is incredible. "Here we STAAAAAAND!" Goosebumps and shivers. Everything about this is so emotional andreading the lyrics while listening just makes me want to cry, ok?! T_T Powerwolf has become so flexible, exploring different ways to make music. This could have been some kind of typical powermetal song but it's not and I'm glad about it.
Even if it's a little different, they never stray to far from what makes them special. The few parts, reminding one of typical church music would not have been necessary but are appreciated! They know when to leave out the guitars and go slowly. What bothers me a little, is that it somehow feels like Attila's voice had a tiny bit more potential up to the chorus. It could've been a little bit softer? if i can put it that way. But honestly this song is raw emotion and everything still fits together. If you thought their first ballad was emotional, buckle up, this one kicked me right in the feels.
Blood for blood (Faoladh)
Powerwolf ventures again into the folk metal territory and successfully conquers it! Could be a headline of something. Anyway, this song is a very worthy successor of Incense & Iron! It just makes me happy, its melody is so light - combined with your typical Powerwolf lyrics. Perfect song to start jumping up and down! It radiates motivational energy. Just like Dancing with the dead, this song has a very smooth transition to the guitar parts.
The melody is strong but still easy enough to quickly get into it! I can barely sit still and write this aaaa. Seriously, I am just happy with this song and will go jump and headbang a while to it!
Glaubenskraft
I have returned from jumping and oh no. It's a German song. Bold of them to go all out on that Latin beginning... it works really well though! It might be because I'm German but this song hits hard. Very hard. It's not easy to make this language sound good and ( if you don't happen to know much about German) the lyrics consist of a bunch of old words and grammar you wouldn't normally use anymore. But they made it fucking work!!! The quiet verses only make the pre-chorus and chorus itself heavier and blow me away. And SOMEHOW this super epic song with (made up, at least I'm pretty sure they don't exist like that) Latin words is about.. you know what Powerwolf writes about a lot. And I LOVE that. It's so subtle and only if you read into it, you're like "wait a minute".
This song has a feeling of corruption too. But not in a good way this time. It feels evil and intimidating and - honestly, I can't get enough of it. Everyone of my neighbours will think I'm some kind of weird Christian fanatic because I WILL yell "Glaubenskraft" just as much as I yelled "Stossgebet". Worth it, tho.
Call of the wild
The song with the same title as the album! (or the other way around, whatever.) This song is just catchy from the beginning to the end. Like many other songs its fast and hard. Just how I like it. Don't take that out of context.
The lyrics and instruments go wild (haha get it), with a really neat Latin pre-chorus. It's very fun to listen to. Personally, it makes me feel like I belong to the pack. That we're strong together, that we can say fuck it once in a while and just go crazy. The chanted part near the end of the song reminds me strongly of Sanctified with dynamite (ya know "die, die dynamite" and "call, call, call of the wild") and it's really cool they pick up on old things once again. Be it intentional or not. It's a reminder that they still are who they were back then - and their music is still fucking incredible.
Simply an epic song, strong vocals, strong guitars. I really, really like the intro. Attila has to sing so many words in such little time, does he even need to breathe now and then?
Now I'm wondering what came first; the album title or the track title? Chicken or the egg?
Sermon of swords
First of all: WHAT IS THAT OMINOUS VOICE IN THE BEGINNING. Mark me down as horny and scared. Ahem.
I really like how the verse and the chorus have their own theme and melody going on and yet they're connected. The chorus is super catchy too! And just say it yourself "Sermon of swords", how cool does it sound??? The choir in the beginning is a really neat introduction into the whole song. The lyrics match the whole album, very much a soundtrack to go on a crusade to, like Raise your fist, Evangelist or Christ & Combat. Just... "AAMEEN!" Ok, I'm actually going insane here, calm down, Feb. These might be my favourite lyrics of the whole album I think?? (unless I said that somewhere else already, then i have more than one favourite.)
The whole song has a more "classical" feeling to it, not only in the Powerwolf sense but also in the Heavy Metal sense in general. BUT. Orchestra and choir are prefectly mixed, especially supporting Attila in the chorus. The guitar solo is really cool and sounds very Greywolf-y, if you know what I mean. It's just Matthew's style.
Undress to confess
The name of this song says it all. This is your friendly reminder that no matter how much they preach about Jesus or the Devil, Powerwolf should not be taken too seriously. When I first saw the title I couldn't help but chuckle a little.
The melody is pretty catchy and easy to remember, the organ and general approach reminds me of Demons are a girl's best friend. I absolutely love how the lyrics are on that thin line of somewhat poetic and ridiculous. Let me provide two examples here: "all the world we posess for desire and sin we carress" - man, this sounds pretty.
And there's also "dressed to hide the dark, and obsessed to ride him hard on the.... crucifix." Yeah, I... I don't know what I expected here. Anyway, this is how you describe church sex without actually using explicit words. (why are you booing me, i'm right)
Still really nice to listen to and have a good time!
Reverent of rats
We arrived at the last song of the album! And here we picked up on the speed and power again! The way the organ is played during the verses makes it so... sinister. Again, this piece reminds me of Lupus Dei. The verses keep the sinister feeling while the chorus picks up more... drama? An epic melody mixed with epic words make my soul ascend to heaven.
This guitar solo is also the absolute good shit. It might be my favourite from all the songs of this album?! Additionally, the drums? I don't know why but they really stand out here. Love how fast paced they are.
Aaaaand that's it! If you've read all the way through holy shit, you are actually a badass. Thank you for staying with me, my werewolf friend. Maybe we'll meet where the wild wolves have gone. But always remember: Metal is religion.
#powerwolf#call of the wild#album review#well sort of#come talk to me about it i love the whole thing!!!!
