Honestly I’m genuinely enjoying Jack o’ Frost so so much. Is it morally dubios? OH YEAH. But I appreciate that you can FEEL that it’s wrong the entire time he’s lying. Also I kind of feel like Ritsu likes Fumiya already, or is actively falling in love with him. Which, yeah Fumiya, that’s your plan (reset the relationship to happier times) BUT IN YOUR LYING YOURE BASICALLY FRIENDZONING HIM?? Like I feel bad cuz you can tell Ritsu feels like their dynamic is… off? (Idk if he’s maybe now wondering if past him had a PHAT one sided crush on Fumiya lol, or if he’s feeling vibes of the past that they should be closer) but it’s truly a mess. Also shout out to the editing and filming style of this show I absolutely adore it but also tend to love when Japan goes this route

Kosuke Suzuki Interview Part 1
Tumblr media
Attention young actor Kosuke Suzuki, the "bond" born from his first drama starring "I always admired Hibiki-kun, who is like the sun"
# Drama interview # Kosuke Suzuki INTERVIEW 2023.3.30
The BL drama "Jack Frost" depicts the heartrending "both unrequited love" of her lover, Ritsu, who lost his memory after saying goodbye, and Ikuya, who hides the fact that he was her lover and supports her. We asked Kosuke Suzuki, who played the role of Ikuya in this work, to talk about the filming episode of the drama and a private story with Kyoya Honda, who played the role of Ritsu, who became friends!
It was difficult to act out conflicting emotions alternately
Tumblr media
――The drama “Jack Frost” in which you starred with Kyoya Honda is very popular. Are you getting that response?
Thankfully, I feel that everyone is happy. I was very surprised to receive voices not only from the fans of the "drama shower slot" where this drama is being broadcast, and from people who support me, but also from people in various countries such as South Korea and Indonesia. The number of followers on my own SNS has increased, and more than anything, I was very happy to hear comments from Koreans that "Japanese BL is evolving."
――I think Ikuya played by Mr. Suzuki was a difficult role to support Ritsu, a lover who lost his memory after saying goodbye. What was the hardest thing for him to play?
Ikuya has feelings of wanting to hide the fact that he is his lover from Ritsu, who has lost his memory, and a sense of guilt for hiding the truth. But I can't express it at the same time, so after making a face that I'm determined to hide, I have an expression that makes me feel guilty. It was difficult to act out the conflicting emotions alternately. However, I thought I shouldn't talk to Hibiki, who played the role of Ritsu, about my worries, so I consulted with the director and decided.
I've always admired Hibiki-kun, who is like the "sun"
Tumblr media
――When I was watching the drama, I could really feel the world and warmth of the two of you.
We actually get along very well. We even stripped each other and did push-ups and had them pump up before filming (laughs). I made the work not only as an actor of the same generation, but also with the feeling that I was a friend working together, a comrade in arms.
――Did Mr. Honda and Mr. Suzuki have similar personalities?
I'm rather gloomy (laughs). But Hibiki-kun is really bright, he doesn't look shy, and he makes the scene lively. I'm the type to talk to someone in a corner, so I've always admired Hibiki-kun, who is like the sun. I thought he was really nice because the atmosphere changed suddenly just by coming to the scene.
――Do you keep in touch after shooting?
We often go out to eat together. After shooting, we became normal friends (laughs). A work is like changing classes. Even if you get along well, once you move to the next class, you don't see or contact each other much, but Hibiki-kun was different. I think it was a wonderful meeting.
Especially impressive was the shooting at Lake Yamanaka
Tumblr media
--It's wonderful. What do you think is the appeal of the relationship between Ritsu and Ikuya?
There are moments when the two look like parent and child or brother. There's Ikuya, who likes to take care of others, and there's Ritsu, who leaves everything up to her (laughs). Ikuya explodes because of that, but the relationship is also heartwarming. I think it's because it's drawn so realistically that it became a drama that sticks with everyone.
――Are there any memorable episodes during filming?
The scene shot at Lake Yamanaka was a lot of fun. Actually, out of two days of shooting, the first day was sunny and the second day was a heavy snow. If it were the other way around, I wouldn't have been able to shoot the summer scene, so I'm really blessed. Because it was a play in a magnificent scenery, the play was also liberating, and there were many moments where you could see the real faces of the two, so I would be happy if you could pay attention to it.
――From the shocking episode 1, Ikuya and Ritsu's relationship was built up, which made me smile.
It's great, isn't it? I think Ikuya's honesty as he absorbs the opinions of his neighbor, Tomoko, and Ritsu's younger brother, Hiiragiji, is wonderful. I'm sure everyone who is watching will be able to support the figure of Ikuya and Ritsu working hard to rebuild their relationship.
――Then, please give a message to our readers.
I was a little worried that this would be my first lead role in the drama "Jack Frost." It is a wonderful work that you can enjoy. I would be happy if you could see the detailed production created by the cast and staff, so please enjoy it until the end!

Jack o' Frost Ep 4 Stray Thoughts
Last time, Fumiya went with Ritsu on the romantic trip he paid for before the accident. He continued to not tell Ritsu about their past relationship even as Ritsu is clearly angling for increased intimacy between them. We all have also been reading into Ritsu's increased artistic skill and his commentary on the temporary nature of Jack Frost.
Still, the flashback to the first bed scene was one of the best we've had from MBS.
The tension is palpable at the table. Both of them are still thinking about what hasn't happened.
Despite my reservations about Fumiya not being transparent with Ritsu about their history, I'm enjoying the chemistry between the leads.
Excited about this person Ritsu remembers potentially blowing up this situation.
Fumiya has definitely fallen for Ritsu again, and I am looking forward to seeing him handle being exposed. We started with him breaking up with Ritsu and being annoyed with him. How will he handle losing control over this situation?
Here we go! Fumiya gets unsettled instantly seeing someone else interact with Ritsu, especially when he realizes it's the ex.
Suzuki Kosuke's choice to clench his jaw after putting the cake (and clearly his hopes for the evening) away? Brilliant.
Love being primed for the conflict with this flashback of how Ritsu has clearly expressed that he doesn't like being manipulated or lied to, coupled with past Fumiya refusing to tell Ritsu about his exes.
See, this is why I like the way the Japanese do relationship tension. The ex didn't even have to say much. All he had to do was show up and Fumiya will cause all of the problems himself. He instantly becomes jealous and controlling. He lets slip that of course he knows Ritsu is gay, not realizing this complicates the fact that they were living together in the same bed.
Oh, I love that Ritsu didn't hear the apology. These two fall further out of sync, and it feels like in both versions of this relationship it comes back to Fumiya failing to communicate and being controlling.
This show is doing a phenomenal job with anticipation. The flashback to their decision to live together as Fumiya sits alone conveys that he's questioning this thing with Ritsu all over again. Now we're seeing Ritsu decide to get more coffee, and instantly I was anticipating him looking in the tin since he uses the last of the coffee earlier.
Oh, that's an effective preview. They're going to have a confrontation about this, but we may see some intimacy. This isn't a finale, so don't trust the preview sex.
I had a lot of doubts about this because of how I feel amnesia plots pervert second chance romances, but I'm enjoying the pace of this story. The quiet way things go right and wrong adds an understated quality that I tend to enjoy in cinema.

Jack o' Frost Drama Review (9.7/10)
Tumblr media
Brief Synopsis
An illustrator Okusawa Ritsu, and a salesman Ikegami Fumiya met together in an old coffee shop and eventually fell in love with one another. However, a misunderstanding arose, which caused a quarrel, and Fumiya decided to end their relationship. The day after the fight, Fumiya was contacted by Ritsu's younger brother, informing him that Ritsu is in the hospital getting treatment after getting involved in an accident. Upon awakening, Ritsu remembered everything but Fumiya. Fumiya then takes Ritsu back home while thinking of wanting to start over again. Ritsu asks for Fumiya's help to regain his memories by bringing him to different places to trigger his old memories with Fumiya. As they continue to regain his memories, Ritsu falls in love again with Fumiya while having amnesia.
Story (9.5/10)
I find the story very bittersweet. It tells the story of a gay couple having a quarrel due to a misunderstanding and the gradual diminishing of affection for each other. It's somewhat your typical bl amnesia show where one gets involved in an accident in which only forgets the existence of their significant other. However, the thing that I find this special amongst others is the maturity between characters and how they're both created by the author. Halfway through the show, we see that the series focuses on an introspective story of a character, which I find uncommon on most shows that deal with melodramatic genres like this.
The part where Fumiya tries to help in regaining Ritsu's memories is the aspect I find very bittersweet since Fumiya himself also tries to reminisce about their old selves. It tells that one may not move on quickly from the past things; it needs proper closure.
In terms of characterization, I relate to Fumiya in a sense he's really not good with words, he expects that from his body language alone can make people around him pick up what he's thinking or feeling. Whereas, Ritsu, is more of a laid-back and introverted character. Therefore, there is a need for both of them to express their emotions and thoughts to avoid further misunderstandings and arguments.
Acting (10/10)
Both actors showcased their acting capabilities. Honda Kyoya (Ritsu) and Kosuke Suzuki (Fumiya) portrayed the characters very well as if they were THE CHARACTERS THEMSELVES.
During the first episode, the argument scene felt intense with how Fumiya acted cold and mad toward Ritsu while Ritsu was drunk-talking about how busy he was during the day.
During the sensual scenes, it never felt off or awkward. I could see the passion and affection they have both for each other as professional actors, and none of their sensual scenes have disappointed me.
During the best part, where both finally reconciled and Kyoya cried from fully regaining his memories struck a feeling inside me. His emotions were as powerful as if it was me he was talking to, and he looked desperate which felt emotional.
Cinematography (9/10)
The entire cinematography of the drama focuses solely on nostalgia and calmness. The angles and color grading throughout the show express melodramatic feelings such as bittersweetness and sorrow, and on top of that, the frames that caught the visuals of the actors added more emotions and depth. As for the sensual scenes, the darkness of the atmosphere gives more impact since it matches the mood of the story.
Chemistry & Romance (10/10)
These Japanese men showcased their chemistry with all of their might! Suzuki and Kyoya's domestic lives have never been this naturally sweet. I keep giggling whenever they interact with each other, especially when doing their love languages. Throughout the entire show, their chemistry or dynamic has never felt awkward and weird, it shows how they both practiced and took time to build their friendship before diving into the portrayal of their assigned characters. I could say that these professional actors have what it takes to become more famous than what they have right now.
Overall & Rewatch Value (10/10)
This is one of the more mature BL shows that's done very well. The production value is off the charts, and the production team did a great job in casting the actors and actresses. I could rewatch this show all over again for the hundredth time and would never find myself complaining or finding this show boring. I'm biased but I believe that the uniqueness of the story's progression and the compatibility of actors make the show even more interesting and intriguing to the point that I'm attached to the show.

Jack o' Frost Ep 6 - Finale
Getting around to this a tiny bit late because Midnight Museum has eaten my entire brain, but not as late as I could be (speaking of, MM ends this week so some sort of "here's what I missed when I was obsessing over the story of a maybe-alien and his immortal museum owning boyfriend brother" post will probably be coming. Or two. I don't know I often have too much to say about things).
Anywho.
When last we left off, Ritsu and Fumiya had decided to take some time apart, and that was probably for the best. Frankly Ritsu had every right to be furious, and everyone involved knew it. I don't think that he was pissed, though. At first, yes, but at the end he mostly just seemed sort of sad. Here he was falling in love with this man and it turns out that he'd both already done that and had the full relationship, complete with unhappy ending. Only the one person who should have told him that decided to use his amnesia as a reset button. While I can see the temptation, I also think it's kinda slimy and I wouldn't blame Ritsu for staying away for good.
Oh, the air of melancholy is definitely back. It went missing for a few episodes there.
Okay Fumiya's frustrated yell made me laugh. I get that he probably feels that he's not allowed to go after Ritsu, that he fucked up too much, and well. He did. A lot. But also, not going after Ritsu has been his issue all along. Over and over he decides to leave things to lie rather than try to fight for what he wants, and over and over that has been shown to be the wrong choice. It's Ritsu's decision, ultimately, whether he can learn to forgive Fumiya for what's happened, but I do think that Fumiya should consider letting him know that that's what he wants. Even if ultimately he's rejected. When has keeping his mouth shut worked for him?
HA! It' just doesn't feel like a proper JBL without someone running to their love interest (or chasing their LI around a school, if you're Hira and Kiyoi).
It'll be cute if they come together at the cafe. Like coming full circle.
It's gotta be so weird to take a trip down memory lane when you have a big blank spot in said memory.
Aw, was Ritsu into Fumiya before the cafe? And did he pursue art because of his priase? That's cute. That's very cute. And I mean, I can't say I blame him for wanting to draw Fumiya's face all the time. He's very handsome.
I'm glad he's remembering. While I get the impulse to want to forget all about a relationship when it ends, you'd lose all the good things, too.
Oh the melting effect on the window was nifty.
Um, I don't know. I think hiding a first meeting is a little less a violation than hiding an entire relationship, but that might just be me.
So are they gonna work on their issues here or what? Guys? Those issues that broke you up in the first place?
Okay I'm gonna take Ritsu saying he doesn't want to start over as him saying that they're gonna meet each other halfway as the people they are - the same people that broke up. Because otherwise I'll just work myself into a lather thinking about how saying you're gonna restart doesn't actually do anything without putting in the work to not end up in the same place you were before, and no one wants that.
To be fair I don't really think either of them wanted to break up in the beginning either. I just know that unless we actively try to avoid them, we are often doomed to repeat the same mistakes.
The end was cute, though. Maybe Fumiya is learning to chill a little. And I'll pretend that Ritsu got up afterwards and helped out, rejuvinated.
Final verdict: 8/10. I'm not sure it stuck the landing for me, but I really liked getting to this point. I enjoyed the quiet wistfulness, I loved that this was more adult and that Suzuki Kosuke got a lead role. I also really liked the way it was arranged - the flashbacks into their former relationship bleeding into the way that Fumiya acts with Ritsu, the echoes of how they used to be vs what they are now. I think maybe second chance romances aren't often for me, though, and that might be part of why I'm feeling kind of meh on this here at the end.

Project Sakura Wars will be set twelve years after the events of Sakura Wars 5: So Long, My Love. In this new entry, the Combat Revues, which previously protected nations from evil while working incognito, are well known to all.
Indeed, the Great Combat Reveue World War is more of a global sporting event, in which the Combat Revues from across the globe gather in Japan’s Imperial Capital to compete in a tournament. These disparate groups then compete to determine which country’s kouma-crushing corps reigns supreme. By the time Project Sakura Wars begins, two such events have already taken place, and the nations are gathering in the Imperial capital for the third. What should be a peaceful event, though, suddenly takes a turn for the serious.
Sega’s email communication describes the story as:
The stage is set in a romanticized version of 1940s Imperial Tokyo. 10 years ago, a cataclysm resulted in the devastating loss of the Imperial Combat Revue of Tokyo, the capital’s global defense force operating out of the Imperial Theater. The theater has since fallen on hard times and risks closure. As captain of the new Tokyo revue, it’s up to you to mend the hearts of your troops and restore the Imperial Theater back to its former glory!
Project Sakura Wars was first revealed on April 14, 2018 at Sega Fes, and was originally tentatively slated to launch prior to March 31, 2019. On April 19, 2019, Sega Holdings President and CEO Haruki Satomi confirmed that the project will be “more than a game.”
A western release was not confirmed until March 29, though Japanese Asian releases were confirmed to be in the works.
On March 27, all-female theater troupe OSK Revue announced that they will host a new Sakura Wars musical in Kyoto. The production which will be an operatic adaptation of 2001’s Sakura Wars Kayou Show story The Sea God’s Villa.
Sakura Wars is an original project by Sega CS2 R&D (later Overworks) and Red Entertainment. Ohji Hiroi (Moeyo Ken, Far East of Eden), Satoru Akahori (Saber Marionette J, Martian Successor Nadesico), and Kosuke Fujishima (Ah! My Goddess, You’re Under Arrest!) are listed as the original creators of the franchise.
The first title appeared on the Sega Saturn in 1996. The initial entry, while released only in Japan at the time, was estimated to have a 200,000 lifetime sales goal. The title sold 205,270 units in its opening week, which was roughly 57% of the launch shipment. At the time, the title was seen as having the largest debut for a Sega title to date. It would go on to move 359,485 copies throughout the Saturn’s lifespan.
Since then, the title has gone on to spawn:
Five main-line titles
Fifteen spin-off games
An anime TV series by Madhouse
Five anime OVA series
Seven manga and light novel adaptations
Sixteen high-profile live stage shows
The final main-line title in the series, Sakura Wars V: So Long, My Love was released in North America by NIS America. The title is available on Sony’s PlayStation 2, as well as Nintendo Wii console.

Thoughts on Kuragehime Ep 1 - Casting & Story Adaptation
Tumblr media
Some of you may know how much I’ve been equally looking forward to (and fearing) the live drama adaptation of a manga that I absolutely love. I quite enjoyed the movie, but when the cast list came out for the drama, I didn’t quite recognise the names, so I decided to be...cautiously optimistic. I’m happy that so far it’s looking pretty good!
Of course had I been in on the asadora scene I would’ve recognised Yoshine Kyoko from the hit Beppin-san, but alas I hadn’t caught that one. Speaking of her, let’s talk about the casting.
Casting
Pros
It’s clear off the bat the team really put in effort in casting and styling the actors. They found people that look very much like those in the original manga. When I first saw Tsukimi I was like...OMG SHE IS SO PLAIN!! In an authentic kind of way. Like I didn’t want some hot model with glasses thrown on - Tsukimi’s all about awkward, quiet charm and in that sense I think Yoshine was cast well. Chieko also looked like she walked straight out of the manga.
Tumblr media
The only one I had reservations about was Kuranosuke...in his first scene I was like, ‘Haha you expect me to buy...this?’ It wasn’t until the scene where Kuranosuke decides to jump into bed did I realise that in some angles Seto Koji looks SO DARN PRETTY.
Tumblr media
And then the more I looked at his big doe eyes the more I was charmed. I think Kuranosuke looks way better in a dress and makeup then Tsukimi now - which I guess is the point.
Cons
Just because you nail the look of the character, doesn’t always translate into an enjoyable show. In order to bring a character to life, well, acting skills are needed. To be honest, I’m not disappointed, but neither am I completely sold. I know this is feel-good type of show where no one is expecting award-winning acting, but I always appreciate it when actors can pull off exaggerated, comedic characters in a way that feels organic to the setting and story. Nodame Cantabile remains one of the best examples of this being done well across the board, but my personal favourite has to be Fukunaga from Liar Game. It wasn’t an easy character to play, but Suzuki Kosuke managed it brilliantly.
In Kuragehime, so far I think Izumi Rika as Inari Shoko is the one who best encapsulates what I look for in such adaptations.
Tumblr media
The rest of the actors do a decent job, like Seto pretty much captures Kuranosuke’s easy confidence. It’s my observation though, that the main problem with the acting in the show in has to do with the producer/director’s choice to make an almost exact replication of how scenes play out in the manga.
For more on that, click ‘keep reading’ to read my thoughts on story adaptation in Kuragehime.
Adaptation Nuances
Pros & Cons
What I appreciate is that, once again, painstaking effort is made to adapt the columns in the manga almost exactly. It’s almost like the team went, ‘This is a hugely popular manga, let’s not mess with it!’ As a fan of the original of course I’m happy on a level, but sometimes I do think they go to far with it, so that the actors are really restricted and their acting falls flat.
Take for example when Tsukimi starts talking in a rapid pace - it feels very jarring in the context of a live adaptation and is actually a lot less comedic then seeing a huge chunk of text in a manga.
Tumblr media
There are also points where, I believe, the actors are instructed to ‘shake’ with anger or nervousness, just like they would in a manga, but that is very inauthentic. People can and do shake in anger but it’s usually very subtle. It’s times like that that distracts me from the plot. Maybe I’m nitpicking, but I feel like they could just relax a little. Let the adaptation have it’s own feel and not get TOO hung up on making it exactly the same.
I’m probably gonna wait till the series has finished airing before watching it all in one go. What do y’all think of the show so far? :)

So guys, Ive gone through 9 circles of hell to make this. Voila
Tumblr media
Wait I can explain
Category "Total flex" – whenever I hear a song from this tier, I can only dance or sing, that's legendary
Category " I love it" – obviously, just like it without explanation, tho it's not as cool as total flex
Category "Decent" – well, there are good songs, but I don't feel special about them. I've included Dystopia and Carla×Shin duet song cause they are the best out of all Kino songs and all Carla×Shin songs, also Kino's VA sounded as if he was trying his best. 😔 But I hate his vibrato lol.
Category "I'd listen to the instrumental only."– IMO the instrumental is SICK there, and vocals... meh. Especially Campanella and Kyuuai Labirinth , they are cool
Category "Weak" – bland songs. Well, LaitovsShu song is okay, but I remeber only "against the blood" and that's all, it is not enough for decent category
Category " ew. " – just something sounds awful. I hate Arcadia with all my heart, tho Ayato's songs are always on the level. This melody and " hello bloody morning" grows the aggression in me. Mayim ☆ Mayim also sounds disgusting, the tempo is kinda dull; and Carla×Shin's songs are meh by the definition.
Category "I laughed" – LITERALLY when this started playing I started laughing. It sounds stupid I'm sorry.
And I genuinely haven't found ShuuvsReijj song. I doubt it's existence
---------------
Something about their voices in particular.
As you can see, Kimura Ryohei's (Kou's VA) voice is my main preference when it comes to music, idk thats perfect. Midorikawa Hikaru (Ayato's VA) is also sounds cool while singing, but his voice sounds tense, sometimes I think it's hard for him to sing. His tune is metallic, very "shiny". Takashi Kondou (Subaru's VA) sounds pretty like Ayato's VA, but his voice too rough and that's why he sounds even more tense 💀. In Itoshiki Pain he felt pain singing high notes I guess, BUT he is still plays the character.
And that's a huge problem to remain the character you play while singing 🗿
Tatsuhisa Suzuki(Yuma's VA) sounds perfect while singing, when I listen to him, I certainly can say it's Yuma, because of the speaking manner (? Or the charisma in general). He's been doing a great job, honeslty, true professional 👏. Yuki Kaji (Kanato's VA) also sounds very Kanato with his singing voice, and he is a God, literally, he's abilities are insane.
Hirakawa Daisuke (Laito's VA) has so damn attractive voice, but when he signs, it seems like music always covers him a little🗿. I mean, his voice isn't as powerful as I wanted it to sound, but, we have what we have.
We go on. Kosuke Toriumi (Shu's VA) and Kishio Daisuke (Azusa' s VA) are nothing like their character's. When Shu's singing, I keep in mind that the person who sings is SMILING while doing it. And the voice becomes a little bit high pitched. Though his voice is still nice and "soft". Kishio Daisuke has A BEAUTIFUL voice, but he's more like "calm Kanato" than his character, eh....
I mean, tf Rejet decided (or VAs themselves did ) that Kishio Daisuke (who has a slow talking characted) will sing, although Takahiro Sakurai (Ruki's VA) will not 🤡🤡🤡. I really miss the opportunity for Ruki's singing some painfully beautiful ballads.......
Katsuyuki Konishi (Reiji's Va) has the richest tone amongst all of the VAs, and, just like Kosuke Toriumi he sounds more energetic in songs, though with Reiji this trick sounds perfect, he has +100 to passion like that, and Shu... Shu is supposed to be depressed, yes?))) Toriumi sounds too happy for him )))
The Tsukinamis.... No problems with Showtaro Morikubo (Shin's VA ), he is like the character which was given to him, but Toshiyuki Morikawa (Carla's Va).... He has nothing in common with Carla, Carla sounds like an old medieval Japanese mobster, but when he sings, he's almost like his lil bro. Seriously, I've literally lost in the forest with only 2 trees while listen to their duet...
Tomoaki Maeno (Kino's VA) is good while he tries to be edgy, though his vibrato kills me (too small interval between each oscillation.) But he sounds pretty in general, I like it.
Me 🤝 people, who made the tierlist and didn't lost their mind.
IM ALIVE
Take this… a Diabolik Lovers Songs tier list

CAST and CHARACTERS
Torigoe Yuuki as Nakajima Atsushi Tawada Hideya as Osamu Dazai Teruma as Kunikida Doppo Nagae Ryoki as Edogawa Ranpo Kuwano Kousuke as Tanzaki Junichiro Saito Akari as Tanzaki Naomi Hironouchi Hitoshi as Miyazawa Kenji Imamura Miho as Yosano Akiko Hashimoto Shohei as Akutagawa Ryunosuke Masaki Kohei as Kajii Motojiro Hirata Yuka as Higuchi Ichiyou Kuwae Sakina as Izumi Kyoka Ueda Keisuke as Nakahara Chuya Ensemble: Elizabeth Mari, Okamura Tatsuki, Obigane Ryouta, Jintoku, Suzuki Ryouhei, Funaki Atsushi, Kurihara Sayaka, Takei Mirano
NON-SPOILER REVIEW This is very faithful to the original anime and manga story, and I feel Hideya, Ueda and Teruma were the perfect casting for their characters, they did not disappoint. Nagae as Ranpo was also a surprise and it was interesting the different ways they had him woven into the stage and story. There was a lot of comedy in this and there's some moments that are exactly as you would want them to be, especially Dazai's idiot moments like trying to die in ridiculous places and ways, as well as his trolling of other people. The way they showed the powers was great along with the use of projection mapping. The best scenes were definitely Dazai and Nakahara's scenes together; they also got the biggest applause. The ending, where you should start clapping, is rather confusing to figure out because they don't bow when they start doing Character Credit Names and Powers, but now you know if you see it live. It's obvious they have intentions of continuing on this seies and I do think that'll happen. Personally there were a few things I wasn't happy with; the tiger fight scene wasn't very smooth or perfect and I think would be confusing to those who haven't seen the anime nor know the story. The one scene I was really excited to see wasn't up to my expectations. And finally, the ensemble were a big distraction for me because I felt the dancing they did was not needed for this stage, and looked rather odd; I strongly feel a normal ensemble cast would've been better and more apparent and fitting. BUT I think many fans and people will be able to thoroughly enjoy this show and see how much effort went into it and how great the casting-to-characters is and everything. Objective Rating: 8/10 Subjective Rating: 6/10

STORY
As mentioned above, the stage is very faithful to the original material. I haven't read the manga so I can only say the stage copies the first season of the anime faithfully. So if you want to know what happens or what to understand what the hell is going on before you see this stage, then I recommend you watch / read that.
THE POSITIVES
PART ONE
Part one was probably the strongest out of the two - although I think this is a habit of mine. I really struggle with stages that have a break in the middle; all my energy and excitement is usually used up in the first half and then during the break I get too chill and relaxed and I also somewhat zone out for the second half =/ I'll try and fix this!
I loved the opening for this stage because Nagae/Ranpo comes out from the right side door and comes down the aisle and approached someone saying 'you're in my seat... yes you are... oh you have a ticket with your seat? I don't have a ticket!' and then comes onto the stage and is almost like a narrator introducing the world and the stage.
Nagae did such a great job with his adlibbing and natural comedy. This little shit, he always plays little shits, keeps growing on me every damn stage! But he's getting better and better every time too! I still can't get over how young he is because his confidence and acting on stage makes him appear so much older and more mature! Even though he does mess around and have fun. Nagae was a GREAT choice for Ranpo and he went way beyond what I was expecting him to do as the character! Which makes me sad, I loved him as Ranpo so much but, as we know, his participation in the first season of Bungo is so small! So I'm excited to see all the stage time and scenes he'll have in the next one!
Tumblr media
And of course, as we all expected, Hideyan and Teruma as their characters are spot on and great! They were the best choices for those characters.
Hideyan went way above and beyond my expectations for him as Dazai because he is just PERFECT as Dazai! You couldn't have asked for a better choice in casting. So many Dazai moments he was faithful to and did perfectly. The moment where he does the wavy arms to  Kunikida is in there. The while him trying to commit suicide with his legs sticking out of the big bin/can is in there. The classic where he tells Kunikida loads of stuff and then goes '...I'm lying' is in there. So many amazingly classic and memorable moments of Dazai were in this stage!
Tumblr media
Torigoe used a LOT of energy in this stage so I could start to understand why he was cast as Atsushi instead of (what I wanted) UeChan. He never stops running around the stage or switching from yelling to turning to the audience and stuff. I am impressed at how much energy he had and could use!
Tumblr media
This stage is very, very funny! We were laughing for a lot of this stage which keeps the nature of Bungou's anime/manga at heart which is great!
I giggled a few times at Kosuke because I couldn't imagine him as the sister-incest-relationship-character but I actually really liked his section of the stage too! He looked so much like he didn't want his sister all over him and his facial expressions were very funny.
PART TWO
I feel like 90% of the audience were there just for UeChan. Him, or a combination of him and Hideyan. Because at the end of UeChan and Hideyan’s final scene, they got a MASSIVE and the BIGGEST round of applause at the end. So much so that even though the lights went up to signal the start of the next scene, the audience CONTINUED clapping! The poor actors had to wait until we were down with our massive round of applause so they could start the next scene. I found it absolutely fascinating.
Tumblr media
The fight scene between UeChan and Hideyan was so good! I was so impressed with how HIGH UeChan can kick his legs and their movements matched very well; it was overall a solid and great fight scene.
Tumblr media
Their entire two major scenes together was just perfect.
I really liked towards the end when Akutogawa and Atsushi were fighting and to show Akuto's power, Atsushi was physically wrapped in black cloth and it looked really good visually and worked really well with the scene and the intensity of it.
Tumblr media
Masaki didn't disappoint me as Kajii! His scene is one of my favourite ones and he was crazy and did a very faithful job of the character! While the scene was somewhat ruined by the ensemble, his performance of the character was solid and enjoy his performance.
Tumblr media
I remember really liking the subtle coughs and stuff Shohei did as Akutogawa but he was very much off to the side and just being like this looming and overwatching character in this first stage rather than being all that active. Only the final scene at the end is Akutogawa somewhat active in the play, so, just like UeChan, I have hopes that his stage time and activities will increase (just like they do in the anime) in the next stage. I did like that they did the flashback scene between him and Dazai and Hideyan looked for freaking good and badass in that flashback! Shohei did good as Akutogawa in his two major scenes (the flashback and the end scene) but I can't confidently say he was a good choice or he's a good Akutogawa until I see more.
Tumblr media
After the first round of applause, Nagae came back on stage the second time and he said ‘Do you see this? *pointing to the 'THE END' sign on stage* It means we're done. Go home.... You know it’s Christmas…. what the HELL are you all doing here?! Out there is Yokohama, you can— oh whatever’ and we all died laughing and he walked off.
And finally, a random comment related to the goods; the photobook and pamphlet have absolutely stunning photos and shots in them. I’ll put them below.
THE NEGATIVES
In the non spoiler section I mentioned three negatives (but now in more detail):
- The tiger fight scene at the beginning of the stage wasn’t very smooth or perfect and would be confusing to non-Bungou fans or knowers. This mainly comes down to how bad the projection mapping of the tiger is. It's very jittery and doesn't really move around the stage smoothly and sometimes it didn't looked like Dazai's attacks were going in the directions of where the tiger was.
Tumblr media
- The one scene I was really excited to see, which is the scene when Atsuhi and Kyoka go on a date through Yokohama, really wasn’t up to my expectations at all. For those who have seen Honoo no Mirage, I was expecting something similar to that where they would put background and locations of Yokohama on the stage through projection mapping and we'd see Kyoka dragging and pulling Atsushi to all these places. But in reality we got a song and dance (see picture above) and the song was 50% in English (if I remember correctly) and it was just them dancing in the middle of the stage. There were no obvious Yokohama locations or Yokohama-esque things in the sequence at all and I was so super upset and disappointed with it. That was the one scene I was so looking forward to seeing and they, in my opinion, missed the opportunity and butchered it.
- The ensemble were a big distraction for me. I felt the dancing they did was not needed nor really fitted for this stage, and looked rather odd and out of place. The actors would be in the center of the stage talking about something or being serious and then the dancers would come on doing these strange movements or were being passerby but would do it by dancing their way through the stage and to me it honestly looked ridiculous and distracting. Honestly, I strongly feel a normal ensemble cast where they just were normal people and normal passerby and did the normal helping out with the stunts and stuff would’ve been better and more apparent and fitting. Even now, weeks after watching this stage, feel like the ensemble looked bloody ridiculous and stupid. ALSO I watched KuroMyu AFTER this stage where they too had a dancing ensemble and it worked completely fine for that stage! I think it's because dancing ensembles definitely fit musicals and songs better than just a normal stage and that's where my problem with them in the Bungou stage lies. Seriously, I was so in love with the dancing ensemble for KuroMyu (review here).
Okay I'll try and tone the rest of the negatives down:
- There was no questionnaire with the stage. I opened my leaflets and checked their twitter and their official website but no paper questionnaire, no QR code or website link for a questionnaire which I think is super strange. I know most people were saying they wanted a questionnaire so they could complain about the lack of trading bromide stock but I always write a questionnaire, I always write what's good, what's bad (which would've just been the ensemble and the date scene) and I always write ' hey maybe try this' or 'I want to see this' or 'this particular actor was great, if you continue please keep them on' etc. so I felt somewhat naked without them supplying a questionnaire to us. I hope they often them at the Tokyo one or something and get a friend to write it for me xD
- They only did Daiza trolling Kunikida with the '...I'm lying' joke ONCE! I’m so upset! It’s like one of best comedy parts. It should've been done at least three times throughout the stage.
- Another personal gripe was my seat. I got my ticket in the very FIRST lottery of tickets and yet me seat ended up being 4th to back row on the 3RD FLOOR. And I know for a fact there were MANY seats empty on the first and second floor. So I was super pissed I got such a crappy seat to say I got my ticket so damn early into the ticket sales.
Tumblr media
- It's not really a negative but more of a confusing moment: they don’t bow at the end to signify the end of the stage. They finish the final scene and then the ensemble come back on (just them) and go a sort of dance before going off and then the members come on one by one with their name and then their ability is shown on the stage walls. So we got about two cast members in before we all realised we should be clapping! It was really confusing and somewhat awkward. So now you know if you go!
- They didn't do any curtain call speeches at the end of the show. It was the final Yokohama show and you'd think, with the sotry being set in Yokohama, that they would do a speech at their FINAL YOKOHAMA SHOW. But no; poor Nagae had to come back on stage twice and be like 'thank you all for clapping and I know you're expecting speeches but we're only doing them at the final Tokyo Show. Everyone is already backstage and undressing out of their costumes. Sorry but the show is finished for today.'
Tumblr media
- Final personal gripe; Not enough UeChan BUT again that's because he, just like Nagae's Ranpo, isn't really all that present in the first season of the anime. So he'll definitely get enough stage time in the next one!
*
GOODS
As mentioned above, the pamphlet and photobook is gorgeous and definitely worth the money!

Jack o' Frost Ep 1 Stray Thoughts
I hope this doesn't spell the end of MBS contributing to BL on Fridays since this show is only 6 episodes. Still, we head into a trope I don't always enjoy: amnesia.
Oof, starting at a breakup. Okay, drama.
Oh no: another Ritsu. I can't take anymore right now.
Incredible how much costuming, hair, makeup, expression, and posture can change how someone looks. I would have necessarily clocked Fumiya as Katori from Takara and Amagi.
We're already running.
There is a gray pallor covering this show.
I wonder if any of this is scary for Ritsu, seeing as he doesn't remember anything yet. It's also going to be tough on Fumiya, because he's caring for someone he had been falling out of love with.
"And they were roommates."
He needs to explain what happened to Ritsu, because he was very confused about the bed. I don't think Fumiya realizes yet how little Ritsu recalls.
I think I struggle with amnesia plots because it feels like a perversion of second chance romance, which I love dearly. The amnesiac isn't behaving like they were before the event, and are we rooting for them to remember or not?
I like that Ritsu is an artist. Using his innate talent gives me hope about where this goes.
Suzuki Kosuke's face journey when he realized Ritsu didn't remember him was appropriately complicated.
I'll admit the show has piqued my interest, but I remain cautious.

Six main-line titles
Fifteen spin-off games
An anime TV series by Madhouse
Five anime OVA series
Seven manga and light novel adaptations
Sixteen high-profile live stage shows
The fifth mainline title in the series, Sakura Wars V: So Long, My Love was released in North America by NIS America. The title is available on Sony’s PlayStation 2, as well as Nintendo Wii console.

Project Sakura Wars will receive an anime series, which will air in 2020. Manabu Ono (Sword Art Online: Alicization, Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere) will direct the project at Sanzigen and co-write the scripts with Tatsuhiko Urahata (Hi-Score Girl, GATE). Sakura Wars composer will score the soundtrack. Ohji Hiroi and Sega are credited with the original concept.
According to their Tokyo Game Show stream, the project will be a side story that supplements the events of the game.
