Rhaenyra’s relationship with her stepmother Alicent was complicated, as some days it was filled with hostility, and others…
…it was more than fond. It was baffling to the Court, to the King, and most of all, to themselves.

I so want to know more about the nature of vampire bond as well. Especially on the maker's end. Louis didn't get to open up on it more but I could feel the weight of it.
(You guys saw my tags on the gif set, didn't you^^)
Okay, so... the vampire bond.
The vampire bond in the VC is not binding. It does not make slaves out of fledglings. It does not enforce anything.
It does mute the mental connection between maker and fledgling, though Lestat theorizes in later books that they might be simply running interference, because they're too close (in the blood).
A bit of lore:
The vampires in the VC were initially created by a spirit (Amel) fusing with blood (Akasha's). This fusion causes the cells to mutate, that is where the blood hunger comes from. The mutation turns the cells more and more into luracastria, a kind of plastic. That's why their skin goes more pale over time, too, and turns translucent when they're killed and the blood is removed. (But that just as a note)
This spirit, Amel, is like a gigantic web. When a vampire makes a fledgling, they pass on a "tendril" of Amel with their blood. The blood itself already would transform, but since Amel is in the blood...
So that is... the literal "vampire bond".
But... that isn't what Louis is talking about :) Or, I sincerely doubt that is what he talks about^^.
Louis... elevates the "vampire bond" to a status that defies mortal definition. No equivalent.
"It's a bond that can never fully be severed. A bond like that makes you believe there are only two of you on the planet."
True. It can only be severed by death, because of the tendril that connects them. But that is not why he thinks there's only two people on the planet :)
I think Louis used the "vampire bond" for himself as an excuse. As a shield. He held it before his heart, telling himself he felt like that because of it.
But then, why didn't Claudia feel like that? Or Antoinette?
Which brings us to Louis cutting open his veins after Madeleine, and the scene in the restaurant.
The show gave us an extremely beautiful and harrowing little glimpse at the bond there, and I love it, even though it is extremely bitter.
Because by turning Madeleine... Louis realized that the "love" did not come with the turning, nor did his heart beat in sync with hers. He realized that he was now connected to her, yes, but he did not want to be. He did not want to feel the feelings Madeleine felt for Claudia. (And which likely echoed what he and Lestat had shared before!) He did not want to be reminded of what he would never have again. He did not want the connection.
And so he wanted to be rid of it, he opened his veins, in vain, because the tendril... had already been passed on.
The vampire bond is for Louis this mind-altering and literally life-altering experience of being reborn through marrying Lestat. Kissing Lestat on the altar. Meaning it. That is why the floor always feels liquid. That is why their hearts sync up. That is why the emotions coming from Lestat always managed to reach him, and why it felt like it was only the two of them.
It was not the same for Claudia.
That was also something Louis realized there, I bet.
Also.
He likely felt Lestat "die" in 1x07. Just as Lestat... likely felt him suffer and slowly wither when Louis was locked up after the trial.
And Louis felt Madeleine's death.
And he knew Lestat felt Claudia's.
In the VC... and imho in the show... fledglings are made from different intents, which shapes the relationship. I talked about that a bit here. A fledgling, a turning does not equal the "big love"...
But if it does... then it fuses obviously with that love. And elevates the bond to an experience that Louis... obviously does not want to sever. And misses, terribly.

Analysis time! :D
What better way to make another thesis for certain parts of the last episode?
This post, I'll be talking about how strong the Power Spheres could take over its owner's mind.
As I ever mentioned it before. Even though comic book already covered the story of season 2. Again, we still need to look at the TV ver. Because whatever happens, TV shows is still the roots of Boboiboy's franchise. Whether you like it or not.
We good? Now shall we begin?
Re edit for grammar correction
See, of all every Power Spheres that had been introduced, only Kokotaim gang were not yet been "confirmed" what was their Power Spheres look like. Sure, the only elemental bot that had been shown were Hang Kasa's Crystal Bot and Retak'ka's Light Bot, but that's it.
Monsta already established two rules about the Power Sphere:
Every Power Spheres have their mind and soul. They could talk, think and feel like a living being.
Whatever happens, their contact with their first owner emended to their traits and it impacted to their next owner as well.
My first suspicion obviously came from what Gopal had said before in one of anon ask box about the first debut of Taufan and Hali in OG series.
"In the past, Boboiboy Lightning turn into Thunderstorm because he felt extremely angry. Boboiboy Wind turn into Cyclone also because of felling an absolute joy."
Another interesting aspect is from Mechamato movie. Specifically when Amato in Mecha suit mode was being locked to a flashback scene triggered by Mecha Bot uncontrollable sense of fear.
(excuse me for putting the Indonesian sub ver. :/
*translation note in order:
"Mechabot, Shoot!"
"Mechabot! What's wrong?"
"C'mon Mechabot!
From this point, I think you can guess what I would want to go from here.
As the tweet mentioned. It is interesting to note the similarities between the two. Whenever the Power Spheres' soul take over the owner's body more deeper, their eyes will glow and the scars spreads to their skin.
And by that logic, the Power Spheres consume much more energy than before. Thus the heavy drained out both mentally and physically from their owners.
Amato knew this and to fix the same issue, he convinced Mecha Bot during their final battle against General Grakakus in the same movie.
"Mechabot, close your eyes! I will be the one to handle our moves! Trust me!"
It goes back to one of my ted talks about this topic and a highlight some particular line from Kuputeri.
One of my favorite Boboiboy account also solidified his statement again about Oboi's being controlled by Power Sphere or in this case, elemental forms.
In my opinion what Oboi went through was somehow worse than any other Power Sphere wielder out there.
Not only he wields seven strongest powers in the galaxy but also might be the most unconstrained one to control them. Then again he still not reach his age of consent, but he already hold big responsibility to become the hero and most wanted target in the galaxy.
Think about it, even their original owners were a bit struggled to learn their power. Hang Kasa travel planets to planet only for learning his power with other elemental masters, Kuputeri needs to harness for at least hundreds years until she could tame Beliung/Tempest's, A small crack Ki'rana's body armor could made her went berserk due to the immense power of the Lightning bot.
In common sense, every wielder still has their Power Spheres as their own companion while Oboi hasn't. What Boboiboy only has to contain that grandiose powers? a watch. A watch that went three times modification simply because of the powers that was too strong to keep and use all at once. Not to mention how frequent Oboi uses split and now with fusion techniques is also add to the list.
He barely managed to ease his mind when transform to Beliung, Ice and Blaze worsen Baraju's conflicts with their near 3rd tier transformation, and he was lucky to be saved by 30 minutes Oakuat Juice so he could keep Rimba under his watch.
Now that we come so far, the questions still remains missing:
With how bad the elementals took over Oboi, will it possible they are gonna be the next villain for him in the future?
Does Amato knows about Boboiboy's Elementals powers? Does he also know Ochobot past before sending it to him?
Did the rest of elementals Power Spheres already destroyed after the first Retak'ka's raid or not?
I guess maybe Mechamato series might be the answer of Ochobot and all elementals Power Spheres in the past. Again we still have no clue what happened to him during the season 2 events.
And also this line up post before Monsta split the title for Dwifusion to "Gentar" and "Baraju"—
—announced the third season of Galaxy series after BM3 Gur'latan(quite close too after the movie you know?) . My only hope is that it cover the elenmentals and also other origins of Yaya, Ying, Gopal, and Fang Power Sphere.
Where were they came from? Were their Power Spheres also get destroyed like all elementals did? Are their owners still alive or not?
🤔

OOT but I just love Monsta's new thumbnail art for full ep marathon of Windara. 😎👍

Finally got around to watching Venom: The Last Dance! I enjoyed this a lot more than Let There Be Carnage tbh, and I enjoyed how there was a lot of setup and payoff, Chekov’s Guns and all that!
The Codex was not just a fun comic reference, but I dig the implications; The Symbiotes didn’t fear for Knull’s escape because a Codex required a Symbiote to resurrect their host. But who would do that when they could just find a new one? Who would be so attached to their host, they’d risk the universe just to save them?
The callback to Venom being able to revive Eddie in the first film, and giving that comeback weight instead of just being a fakeout death that means Eddie can survive whichever. Good stuff. Maybe the Symbiotes deliberately avoided bonds and only used their hosts callously for risk of giving Knull a Codex…
I liked our introduction to the Xenophages at the start; I wasn’t sure what they were, if they were a reference to a comic book villain. My first thought was the Poisons, but I’d finally remembered the Xenophage shortly before it was confirmed. I remember being unimpressed by how easily one was killed in what should’ve been its defining first encounter, only to reason that there would be more… Only to see we’d just have one (for now) because it could regenerate from anything!
Seeing these monster mooks in droves, only to discover just how indestructible one is and how it can threaten the story by itself… There’s that constant reminder in the back of your head as just one Xenophage menaces the plot that, Oh yeah there’s hundreds of them. Oh dear. Which culminates in a second, and then a third, and more, showing up; I’d always wanted to see a Venom movie with just a line Xenophage menacing the cast like a horror movie villain, so this was a treat! Weirdly, I also had the same idea of the Xenophage just being an animalistic predator and not capable of speech as it was in the comics, huh.
It was an interesting take! None of the camouflage alas, and no acid to melt Symbiotes; But given the climax hinged on the Xenophage being vulnerable to acid, I can see why Kelly Marcel left that bit out so it wouldn’t feel strange. Instead, the Xenophage kills Symbiotes by acting like a shredder, tearing them apart on a nearly cellular level. Maybe some fire breath could’ve worked, but they do have a sonic scream! It was a treat to finally see this creature on the screen after some fanon I’d written on them way back during 2018; I knew nothing about this film other than the first trailer and Knull’s presence, so I was glad to be surprised!
I also recalled mourning a bit the cast we’d left behind in the last film; I was satisfied by the resolution with the Danne dynamic, but I was missing Mrs. Chen when she just. Freaking appears it was wonderful! Mrs. Chen fan service thank you very much. I’m a bit sad that the last we see of her is Mrs. Chen terrified for Eddie and Venom’s sake, but another sequel is always possible with this movie’s box office performance! Indeed, I dug the payoff with Payne’s Cockroach line, the Venom bud (which I was surprised to another one of), and that poor bartender who they did a fun gag with the multiverse variant for.
Seeing those Symbiotes die was like watching angels get their wings clipped… I wasn’t shocked but man. I just had to find a bitter relief when the tension of their survival was resolved via a conclusive death. Love the new ones they did and the color schemes and fun; Like a serpentine tail or big fists, or the fusion! That was an idea I’d always wanted to see and even had OCs in mind for! RIP to them all… The flaming one is interesting given their species’ weakness to fire, so they must be quite “hot” for presumably being immune!
I thought Lasher was the serpentine Symbiote at first, but then I saw Christmas’ and knew with those specific blades and their shape! I checked and yeah, she’s a reference to an obscure Lasher host, I always dig the comic lore deep dives. I was thrilled to see Agony, but one part of me can’t help but wonder why Payne wasn’t just named after a pre-existing Agony host. I thought she and Agony would die to tank the flames, as a callback to Payne’s brother, but no she’s out there!
I’m not sure how Toxin is supposed to factor but based on the dialogue, my theory is that Carnage also budded and Toxin latched onto Mulligan during the church climax, before ditching him. RIP to Mulligan he had a horrible time and I wonder if his sacrifice was even something he chose, or if the Symbiote just took control and decided that for him.
With how unstoppable just one Xenophage was, I had to wonder how our protagonists could defeat an army, much less Knull himself! Turns out… they don’t, it’s not that kind of heroic victory. Just a bittersweet sacrifice to keep the evil at bay, for now.
The credits sequence with the Symbiote animals… Wonderful stuff. Seeing the different Symbiotes made me think of the OCs that came from the first film, which also happened around the time of the first Spiderverse, and its OCs! Venom is the Anti-Spiderman so it makes perfect sense.
We’ll probably see a sequel tbh, with Agony floating around and not just killed off to resolve plot threads, plus the implications of Toxin. It’ll be interesting to see the Codex symbol evolve into the appearance of Knull’s enhanced Symbiotes, and maybe the Grendel Symbiote while we’re at it! I could see the box office trends guaranteeing a bigger budget for a deity-level battle with Knull.
And apparently Dan Lewis is the guy in charge of Imperium…? Could just be a placeholder, maybe it happened later but imagine if he’d always known. If so, I hope the movies don’t retcon him as actually a jerk after all, because the first two films were refreshing for having the ex-wife’s new love be nice. We’ll just have to wait and see, and hope for Sleeper while we’re at it!

I am kind of obsessed with the idea of Evan Peter's characters with a magic system like Steven Universe. If you aren't familiar, the most bare-bones way to explain this is that certain characters are able to fuse with each other because of their bond. Their mind, body, and soul become one and create an entirely new being. If their fuse is unstable, then they will defuse. If they take a lot of damage, they will defuse. They can also stably defuse and return to their separate forms. If you want to know more about what I am talking about, go to the Steven Universe Wiki under Fusion Gems.
Now imagine Evan's characters fusing to create new characters. Tehe. Especially in a yandere setting.
Your toxic boyfriend Kai Anderson takes you to the Cortez to spend the night because every other place is booked. You both meet James Patrick March. Kai and James click together like puzzle pieces. One is an aspiring cult leader and the other is a mass murderer. They both have grown to be madly obsessed with you. Kai is only willing to share because James is even better of a manipulator than he is. They fuse and create a new being— their obsession and individual abilities multiply tenfold.
Giggling and kicking my feet in the air rn.
Quicksilver and Tate? Peter moves into the Murder House and you're their neighbor. Peter acts like Tate is his brother. Tate is totally a normal human boy. Nothing to see here. They both are all lovey dovey with you... so they fuse by accident once because Peter runs through Tate. Then, they decide to show you their fusion.
The yandere Evans forcing you into an unstable fusion??? Uh, oh. :( Darling, you don't understand. You are precious to them. This is the only way you can be with them in mind, body, and soul. They need this. They need to be one with you.
The wholesome babies being Kit and FrankenKyle. Kit doesn't really understand the entire undead thing but he helps Kyle become more human. You are the witch/warlock/[insert other magical thing] that is currently taking care of Kyle. Kit just adores how sweet and loving you are with him. They both fuse over their mutual attraction to you. The fusion is a bit unstable because Kyle is undead— so his scars show up on the fusion. Imagine those eyes??? Kits look and Kyle's innocent baby expression??? You have an oddly charming, himbo boyfriend now. Sometimes he struggles to speak and maintain eye contact.
Austin Sommers and Mr. Gallant. More giggling. It would be such an odd pair but it'd work. It'd work. You totally know that it would.
Luke Cooper & Colin Zabel. Shh... Lordy, lordy. Give Luke some credit. He never intended to fuse with anyone. He thought the idea was fucking stupid and useless to begin with. Ugh, a detective— so how did they fuse? You work for Michael Scott and therefore with Luke. Someone broke into the office after hours (Michael bribed you into helping teach Luke office skills. It was coming along horribly and Luke just kept flirting with you.) and that person tried to kill both of you. A masked gunperson. Colin comes in to help solve the case. Both Luke and Colin... end up fusing when Luke shows he gives a shit about something. Which is you and your safety.
This is already so long. Anygays, do you want me to expand on this idea:? Genuinely curious. Cause I would love to see what people come up with... and what if there was just an au of Evans fused characters??? (Even non-ahs related— I write a lot of ahs. that is why I am saying this.)

Yu-Gi-Oh! Go Rush!! Episode 90 Sub Release

Please make sure to read the FAQ if you have any questions.
There are translation notes below, so spoilers ahead.
-------------------------------
ドッチ・ジャーニー・ショウ! Which Way the Book Turns!
This is a pun-laden name from Dudi again. It can be romanized literally as "Which Journey Shall/Shows!", but it is also a play on 書 (sho), which can sometimes be used to refer to a book - like the one Dudi is reading in the card art.
I just tried my best here; I'm sure there's a punnier name that makes me go "oh my god why didn't I think of that" once YGOrg puts their article out.
お前の中でこれがしの自我を保つのは難しそうだ "Your body is unable to sustain my ego."
Clarifying here that Kuaidul means this in the sense that if he merges with Yuudias, something disastrous will occur... to Yuudias. He is willingly undoing the fusion, or reversing it, so that it doesn't harm him.
He is "letting go" of Yuudias of his own volition.
種の寿命が尽きようとしている "Our species is approaching the limit of our lifespans."
More accurately, Kuaidul is trying to say "our species is going to exhaust our lifespan", as in "use up" or "run out", but I couldn't think of a way to word this that had the same finality as limit.
It is very much with a finality that Kuaidul says this. Interpret as you wish.
-------------------------------
Some other easter eggs
In order for Shewbahha's card to activate, Yuudias had to send Leviaknight (Phaser's card) to the grave - kinda like giving Shewbahha something to eat!
Nyandestar's Cat Claw Girl is the last obstacle that everyone must overcome, which is fitting considering she was the first ever card created by Kuaidul
Similarly, the last people to give Yuudias the ATK boost he needs are some of the first people he ever met upon arriving on Earth... Yuamu and Yuuhi!
Dudi Nishaw, though he's part of the Dudi Ducasse, is in fact a Velgearian... due to how he's supposed to be one of the three "factions" fighting in the Velgear Star Cluster. You can sort of think of the term "Velgearian" as both a species identifier and a nationality. Dudi is a "Velgearian" species-wise, but he is Dudi Ducasse in terms of nationality. Hope that makes sense!
The "Andromeda-Milky Way collision" is a real thing that is projected to happen... in the next 4.5 billion years. According to Wikipedia, it's actually not going to cause much damage to either galaxy or the stars within it at all, due to how far apart each individual star is. In fact, by the time this happens, all life on Earth would've been wiped out about 3 billion years ago anyway due to the Sun's growing instability
In Mahayana Buddhism, which Japanese Buddhism is derived from, a "bodhisattva" is someone with "a spontaneous wish and compassionate mind to attain Buddhahood for the benefit of all" - does it sound familiar? It's Yuudias offering his body to Kuaidul even despite all of the wrongs he has committed.
I guess we now know why the ED is titled "Song of Departure"
-------------------------------
Announcements
Go Rush will be taking a break on New Years weekend and will not air an episode then! The next episode will be on January 7th.
As well, the entameSubs team will be on vacation for the next two weeks. I will be in Japan! That means episode 91 will be massively delayed until I get back.
There will be a dedicated announcement post of the vacation in a day or two, just so people are aware.
-------------------------------
And that's a wrap!
I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am for Go Rush season 3, now that we know that's a thing that's happening! It has always been something I wanted because I adore this show to bits... but I was so convinced we would be moving onto the next series already.
But here we are! The voice actor of Yuudias, Arthur, said that this third year was only possible "with [the fan's] support" - so it's wonderful and heartwarming to know Go Rush is very well received.
Merry Christmas, if you celebrate! Happy Holidays otherwise!
This is one of my favorite episodes of all of Yu-Gi-Oh! as a whole. I have not cried at a finale or even any episode like this since ZEXAL aired Nasch vs Yuuma ten years ago.
I leave you with a quote from one of my favorite games that applies word-for-word to this episode. Just replace "Ardbert" with "Yuudias".
Yuudias chose love, and Kuaidul was undone.
Happy New Year.

I finished some grading, so I'm celebrating by actually finishing my monologue about why my ideal adapted Darcy would be a fusion of two unpopular versions—Laurence Olivier's (1940) and David Rintoul's (1980).
I already gave my rationale on the Olivier front here; the short version is that Olivier!Darcy leans into the smiling, snappy, polished banter from Darcy that is so often overhauled into brooding. It's not all that there is to him in the book, obviously, and the Olivier version definitely gets way off track, but I do think it catches something about the character that is often lost.
The Olivier post ended: But there is also a whole other, subtler side to him that I think is really important, and that one is far better represented (IMO) by Rintoul’s Darcy. So onto my actual favorite Darcy, the infamously peculiar Darcy of the 1979/1980 P&P mini-series.
For context, I'm going to back up a bit and talk about something I've discussed many times before, but which is particularly relevant to this version. For all of canon Darcy's assurance in other ways, I think there's a distinct strain of awkwardness in his character—not shyness as such, but discomfort and difficulty in a wide range of social situations.
He avoids dancing whenever he can manage it, except with Elizabeth. When he becomes interested in her, he hangs out nearby and pays attention to her conversations with other people to work himself up to talking to her himself. He feels ill at ease around strangers and finds it difficult to identify their tones and expressions.
His own default, public expression seems to be quite low-affect. For instance, when sensible, observant Charlotte is looking for signs of interest in Elizabeth from him, she can't tell if Darcy really is interested in Elizabeth or simply absent-minded. Elizabeth completely mistakes his expressions on multiple occasions in the last third of the book as well as the earlier parts. At Rosings, Darcy says it's difficult for him to show interest. Even when he's not trying to be off-putting, he intimidates a number of other characters, from early in the book to the end of it. When he's actively being pleasant and successfully trying to make a good impression, the Gardiners still notice a certain stiff formality about him.
His early position seems to be that his discomfort negates his obligation to treat those outside his circle of friends, relatives, and dependents with courtesy. He evolves to putting in the effort to at least try to be pleasant and courteous—but the attempt does not always succeed. At the end of the novel, he remains uneasy around most of the Meryton community, and his manner towards them is easily read as stiff and cold (even to Elizabeth).
Significantly, Elizabeth evolves from wholly dismissing his discomfort to trying to shield him from the people who make him the most uncomfortable. IMO, this is part of her movement away from projecting what she wants to see onto people (Bingley, Charlotte, Wickham, Darcy) to trying to understand them in a more honest way.
Darcy was too quick to excuse himself, but I think these situations are hard for him in a way that Elizabeth initially dismissed. She ultimately comes to understand this about him, to the point of becoming actively protective of him—which reads really differently if he could handle these situations perfectly well with zero real awkwardness or discomfort if he just tried harder. But a) I prefer not to see Elizabeth's arc culminating in her becoming a doormat and b) I think Darcy's sense of unease and formal awkwardness is quite clearly established throughout the novel.
Okay. The point of all this is that the Darcy who can be stiff, formal, who struggles with expression, who is so uncomfortable that he makes everyone else uncomfortable, too—that's all there in Rintoul's Darcy, dialed up to eleven. It even pervades his demeanor at Pemberley, when he's clearly putting in effort with the Gardiners, but there's still that awkward rigidity and reserve about him.
I don't feel like Rintoul's Darcy is shy per se, and he's not awkward in the sense of being clueless like Mr Collins—I think there's a certain sophistication about Rintoul!Darcy's formality, excessive though it is. But damn is he uncomfortable. It's so relentless and so intense that he's uncomfortable to watch, because the 1980 P&P doesn't feel the need to make him relatable or a familiar romantic type. He's just this kind of peculiar person who ended up as the main love interest, and only really opens up at the very, very end, after Elizabeth accepts his proposal.
To be clear, I do think it goes too far in this direction and does lose sight of the Darcy who is clever and gets caught up quick, smiling banter. But I do respect the disinterest in shoving him into a typical male lead box and the willingness to let him be odd, even unappealing at times.
So while it would be difficult to combine these—I realize that—my ideal version would fuse the quick-witted, articulate side of his character that we see supercharged with Olivier's Darcy, with the uncomfortable and formal side that we see dialed up with Rintoul's. It's complex, but I don't think it's so complex that it couldn't be done, especially in the traditional mini-series format.

Songs and elements that sing and whisper in DA Lore
Dragon Age presents us a lore which has an excess of things that sing. Some of them seem to be related to the same source, while others appear to be alternative songs or corrupted versions of the first ones. It's still not clear if all of them are related to an original source. Each of the concepts that has a Song has a lot of lore attached to it too.
In the present post I gather all the pieces of lore I found related to each title, summarised the most important concepts and ideas from them, and drew a general conclusion about the song of that particular object. Since some of them are related, I will be a bit repetitive in some items. At the end of the post a general, integral conclusion will be shared.
Main objects with songs attached to them:
Lyrium
Templars and Dwarves
Titans
Red Lyrium
Old Gods, Archdemons, and The Blight
Elves and Uthenera
Magic and Fade
Extra things with unclear songs
[Index page of Dragon Age Lore]
[This post belongs to the series “High Speculation”]
Lyrium
Lyrium has had a song since DAO. The mining cast of the dwarves say they can hear it and that's the reason why they can find lyrium veins easily [Lyrium (Origins), Lyrium]. Lyrium in crystals also keep memories at the hands of the Shaperate, and produces indestructible metal when combined with iron. [Orlais: Shrine of Dumat]. Lyrium is also used to write the memories of the Shaperate, sever a mage’s mind from the Fade [make them tranquil], and it was a key element in the construction of Caridin’s golems [ which uses molten lyrium, Caridin's Journal].
Justice when nearing large lyrium container in Kal'Hirol Trade Quarter: "This...this substance...sings to me. Do you hear it? I did not know something so beautiful could exist."
Justice [after giving him the lyrium ring]: What is that sound? Such beautiful singing. The stone within this ring… is it lyrium? [...] When mortals dream of lyrium in the fade, it is not like this. The song saddens me, but it is breathtaking. Of all the things I have seen in this world, this is the most precious. I will keep it at my side as a reminder that even in misfortune, good can be found.
Lyrium also sings to the spirits in the Waking World: When we give Justice a lyrium ring, he says that it has a beautiful song that summons an ache in him [probably this is the Sadness of the Titan]. He also states that lyrium doesn't sing in the Fade and regrets his inability to bring the music there for the other spirits to hear.
Wynne rummaged through her pack, pulling out a large bottle filled with a glowing blue liquid. Pure, unrefined lyrium. Even from here, Rhys could hear its faint song, a melody that played in his head and danced upon his skin.
In the book Asunder, a Mage sensitive to speak with spirits, Rhys, can hear its song.
This staff gives a faintly audible hum when touched: A wistful tune, as if it were thinking of a faraway or forgotten place.
We can notice this song with the staff Isana's Song.
As the Titan's blood runs through Valta's veins, she claims there is loneliness to its song. [Ending of dlc, The Wellspring]. Lyrium carries a song that explains that the dwarves were broken into two [ Titans ].
However, there are some codices such as Kolg's Journal, that show that an excess of Lyrium produces a maddening song, that it's not clear to which point it's truly the Titan's song or merely lyrium poisoning. Due to the artificial way of connecting to the Titan through consumption and fusion of their bodies with Lyrium, the Sha-Brytol may be in a similar state of mind.
Conclusion on Lyrium: The Lyrium certainly carries the song of the Titans’ Fall and how their children were split into two different kinds of dwarves. Sensitive mages, dwarves, and spirits can hear this song in the lyrium but not to understanding it. Only a deeper connection like Valta’s would allow it eventually. The song summons ache and loneliness.
Templars
"You take it like medicine at first, the lyrium. Your whole body sings with it, like the Maker's own fire. You're not scared of anything, not even abominations. After, it even takes away the nightmares. But the ration's too small. If they don't give you enough, your hands get cold. The sky starts to press down on you. Little things slip away. So you have to stay." [Confessions of a Lyrium Addict]
Cole, If Cullen is told to take Lyrium again: "He sounds right again with the chains in place, but the music makes him sad."
Inquisitor: Can you tell me more about how the templars feel to you?
Cole: They feel older than they look. They’ve been changed, and their bodies are incomplete now. The lyrium helps, but their bodies always want to connect to… something older. Bigger than they are. That’s why they block magic. They reach for that other thing, and magic has no room to come in. Like when I listen to Varric.
This makes us suspect that lyrium causes a kind of slavery [addiction if you drink it, or forced shape in Ancient Elven codices; Fen’Harel’s mountain ruins ], which can be connected with the concept of "lyrium vallaslin" we talked in other posts.
Templar's body and modern dwarf’s body want to connect to the Titan through the small bits of Lyrium in their blood. This is what causes the block of magic: the Fade cannot enter in their bodies because the need to connect with the Titan is bigger. Magic has no room.
This lets us infer that the Sha-Brytol tried to force an artificial re-connection with the Titan by drinking lyrium and fusing their bodies with it. We can assume that this insanity may have been caused by the despair they felt when the connection was broken.
Conclusion on Templar: Templars of course can hear the song of the Lyrium after drinking it, giving them an overwhelming sense of power. Lyrium usage, through consumption or otherwise, always causes a kind of slavery. It prevents magic, since the constant need to connect to the Titan thorough the small bits of Lyrium in their blood system blocks any attempts of the Fade to “enter” their bodies.
Dwarves
Solas: Do you ever miss life beneath the earth? The call of the Stone? Varric: Nah. Whatever the Stone - capital S - is, it was gone by the time my parents had me. Solas: But... do you miss it? Varric: How could I miss what I never had? But say I did have that sense, that connection to the Stone. What would it cost me? Would I lose my friends up here? Would I stop telling stories? I like who I am. If I want to hear songs, I'll go to the tavern. Solas: You are wiser than most.
If the inquisitor is a dwarf, Cole will say: "You’re too bright. Like counting birds against the sun. The mark makes you more. But past it… The stone, still there, silent and reaching up for the blood that walks. No dreams with the cord cut. You sell it."
Cole: I like traveling with Dwarves. Varric: Glad to hear it, Kid. Cole: You're quiet, but the old song still echoes inside, almost like Templars.
Cole: Do you write to reach across? To hear the song that was sundered? Varric: I'm... not sure what that even means, Kid, but probably?
Cole reinforces the idea that Dwarves have an echo of the "old song", I imagine, it's about the song that Lyrium carries: the Titan’s fall and its pain.
When Cole speaks about dwarves calls them “blood that walks” [Titan’s blood].
Dwarves have no magic ability because they are constantly reaching to the Titan, preventing the magic/Fade to enter in their bodies.
Apparently, it is implied that if a dwarf can access to the connection to the Titan, they can dream [since the cord would have been restored]. So, was the Titan always connected to the dreams, and therefore the to the Fade so the original dwarves could dream? However, Valta stops sleeping when she connects to the Titan, but she has access to any space and time, so she seems to be living the Reality with the flexibility of the Fade. In a sense, does she live Reality as if it were a dream? The implications of this bit of information are wild.
This confirms a bit the interpretation of the Mural “The Death of a Titan”, where we find a green Fade-like colour around the heart of the Titan: Titans may have been connected to the Fade originally? Or they controlled the Fade as much as Reality as Massive Shapers?. This makes the connection with the old unreliable Dalish lullaby about Mythal [Torn Notebook in the Deep Roads, Section 3] more impossible to understand.
Conclusion about Dwarves: Dwarves apparently could dream when they were connected to the Titan. It’s not clear what this exactly means since Valta stops sleeping when she connected to the Titan in the same way the ancient dwarves did. However, she bends reality as if it were made of Fade. Once the connection was severed, the dwarves became “silent or quiets”, with faint echoes of the Titan’s song in their blood. The constant desire to reach this connection or to reach the Titan, prevents the Magic from entering inside their bodies, hence they are unable to perform magic.
Titans
Cole: I like travelling with Dwarves. Varric: Glad to hear it, Kid. Cole: You're quiet, but the old song still echoes inside, almost like Templars.
Cole: Your stories aren't real. But then people read them and they are! Varric: Get the readers invested and you'll have them forever. Cole: So many people reading, dreaming, feeling. Spirits spill around the veil making shapes. Reality from writing! Varric: I've got fans in the Fade? Well, that's something. Shame I'll never meet them. Cole: Do you write to reach across? To hear the song that was sundered? Varric: I'm... not sure what that even means, Kid, but probably?
There is a book from the time of the Paragon Orseck Garal, which describes the stone as singing: “I awoke to the singing stone. Our kingdom trembled at the Titan’s hymn”.
Cole, when he reaches the Bastion of the Pure (descent): "It's singing. A they that's an it that's asleep, but still making music."
After the first fight with the Sha-Brytol in the Bastion of the Pure (descent):
Cole: It sings softly under the silence. The Stone took him back. He's home again. Valta: Somehow that brings me comfort.
When entering the Overlook (Trespasser) "Songs screaming far away. It wants to wake up but can't remember how. No one should be here."
When walking along Excavated Caves, he refers to Qunari: Cole: The stone sings. The song scares them. It's the wrong song, the wrong blood. They don't know how we stand it. Dorian: If we can convince them to stop murdering us for just a few years, I'm open to a cultural exchange.
“Its blood now flows through me, and its song fills the gaps in our history. I close my eyes and see glimpses of the world that was, before everything changed and the dwarven race broke in two. Something caused the Titans to fall, and the fate of my people fell with them. The Titan wants me to know. No, more than that. It wants me to understand. There is a loneliness to its song.” [Valta in Titans]
Cole describes the Titans as an "it" in singular, and they sing "the old song".
The song of the Titans is about loneliness and the Fall of the Titans that also caused the fall and fracture of the dwarven race. This most likely refers to the war against the elves: The Fall of the Titans, the sundered of the dwarves, and a forced sleep through ages as the Elvhenan mined their bodies and did "something else". This story is partially told from an Elvhenan point of view in the mural “The Death of a Titan”.
Cole seems to imply there is one last titan: "A they that's an it". Valta also speaks at the end of the dlc about the loneliness of the Titan. It’s not clear if there is a last one of their kind or it’s a loneliness due to the disconnection from its children, the dwarves, or due to this eternal sleep that the titan is submitted.
Titans are sleeping but producing a lonely, aching music unconsciously. They forgot how to wake up. However, their song echoes in the blood of the disconnected dwarves.
Apparently, Dwarves keep trying to "fully" hear this song, and that's the origin of their "constant reaching" that blocks magic from them.
The Stone is always singing under the silence, and apparently this song scares the Qunari because "it's the wrong song, the wrong blood". It’s impossible for me to interpret this, even when we know the wrongness of the Qunari’s blood is because they are a created/experiment race.
When Valta connected with the Titan, she stopped sleeping at all, and has no sense of time, past, present, future, nor distance. She seems to be able to violate all the [The Cardinal Rules of Magic].
According to Cole, there are many other songs that seem to imply that keep the Titan unable to wake up. “Songs screaming far away. It wants to wake up but can’t remember how.” This is the reason why I personally suspect Uthenera is related to a song/spell chanting sustained forever [as the codex Raising the Sonallium seems to imply elvhes could do in the past].
Curiously, Corypheus and the Archdemons displayed a similar or the same ability that the Titans: they were “asleep, but still making music.” We know both of them unconsciously produce an song despite being sleeping that causes blighted creatures to reach to them in a compulsive way.
Since Valta’s blood now carries Lyrium too [but in a different way to the modern dwarves, or the Sha-Brytol, or the Templars], she can hear and translate the song that explains that part of the ancient dwarven History. Even though Valta is only hearing one voice: the Titan’s voice, it seems a similar situation to the Well of Sorrow; an entity with access to the mind of Chosen Ones who can understand it.
The only odd piece of information I gathered about Titans that I can’t fit in all this list is this one:
Cole, as he walks through the Forgotten Caverns (descent): "It’s wrong here. Too many whispers. The song is wrong. Chords cut to silence."
We are close to the Titan that will be connected to Valta, so these songs are not the ones Cole listen later in The Wellspring. Since this is the level where we meet the Sha-Brytol, I assume they are the whispers? But this is extremely strange because the lyrium sings one song [the titan’s, not many different songs or whispers], and the Sha-Brytol have fused their bodies with lyrium and drink it and feed on it. Unless Cole is referring to the remnants of dwarves that he can heard below all that lyrium: these may have been the original sundered dwarves who, disconnected from their Titan, lost in despair, passed through this insane process of fusing their bodies with the lyrium to get closer to the titan in an artificial way. Valta, once connected, calls them “lost dwarves”, which would make a bit of sense for Cole to call them “chords cut to silence”. So Cole is hearing the dwarves below all that stuffed lyrium and not the lyrium itself? This confuses me a bit.
Conclusion on Titans: The Titans have an "old song", filled with loneliness about the Fall of the Titans and the sundered dwarves that were disconnected from them. The song may speak about the Elvhenan who forced them to sleep and forget how to wake up while their bodies were mined and "something else" was done to them. This song still echoes in the blood of the modern dwarves, but apparently not in the Sha-Brytol’s ["Chords cut to silence"]. This same song scares the Qunari because "it's the wrong song, the wrong blood".
This curious connection between the Titans and their dwarves feels similar to the connection that the servants of Mythal have through the Well of Sorrows to her. It’s also curious how similar Corypheus and the Archdemons can produce a song to make the blighted creatures become compulsive in reaching them. It seems a “bad, perverted” version of the same mechanics that affects the dwarves in relation to the Titans and prevents them from having magical abilities.
Red Lyrium
"Red lyrium isn't the weak stuff they fed you all your life. The song is deeper. It's got a will of its own [...] Soon you won't need to stop to hear it. Practice, and the song will always be in your blood." [Red Templar Archers]
Cole in Emprise du Lion; near red lyrium: "It sings... sick music."
Cole in the Darvaarad, near red lyrium: "The song is different, but the pieces fit together".
Cassandra: Cole, you killed Lord Seeker Lambert so he wouldn't hurt people. Cole: Yes. Thank you for remembering. Sometimes people forget me. Cassandra: Is that why you went to Therinfal? Cole: Most sounded the same, but the leaders they listened to were hurt, hollowed, sick with a new song. They swallowed lies until they sang with darker music. The sound hollowed them. I wanted them to stop me if I harmed people, but I had to stop them instead. Oh, wait. You had a question.
Inquisitor: Can you tell me more about how the red templars are different? Cole: The red lyrium is different, darker. Daggers under the skin. It eats you inside until you're nothing. They hear a different song. The song behind the door old whispers want opened. They are dead and dark and done.
The red Lyrium has a sick, dark, deeper song to it.
I'm not sure what Cole means when he says that the song is different to the normal lyrium, but “fits together”. Is this a way to say both lyrium are singing complemented songs?
The most meaningful comment of Cole about the red lyrium is "The song behind the door old whispers want opened". This comment connects the Red Lyrium directly with the concept of "Old Whispers", which makes us remember the codex Whispers Written in Red Lyrium. In this codex we read about entities that were in the Dreams before being sealed. This can be interpreted in several potential candidates: 1) If the Titans truly were able to sleep and walk in the Fade original, a possible interpretation is that the Red Lyrium’s whispers may be the consciousness of all the titans that can’t awake, 2) the Evanuris sealed by Solas through a bound process, or 3) the entities that Tevinter considered the Old Gods; but this piece of information is based on the unreliable Chant of Light. After all, it’s only in the Chant of Light that we are told that the “old whispers” are related to the archdemons/old gods.
[Speculation] We know the Magisters Sidereal entered the Black City and saw it empty [Corypheus’ words in Legacy and his memories in Shrine of Dumat], but we also know, thanks to the last mural of Dread Wolf, that the Black City is infected with Red Lyrium. If we take into consideration the codex above, and we assume these whispers belong to the Evanuris, we can conclude that the Evanuris may have been bound or sealed to Lyrium. Since Solas seems incapable of using Red Lyrium on purpose, the contamination may have happened accidentally when he forced the bound process. We also know through Zathrian story that these strong bound process may produce curses or infections that can spread, so I suspect that Solas’ banishment may have caused an unexpected contamination that required extra layers in the Fade to contain. Another possibility, removing the old lore content of Zathrian is that simply bounding Andruil caused the contamination of the rest because she was already contaminated with Blight or Red Lyrium [Elven God Andruil]
Conclusion on Red Lyrium: The red Lyrium has a sick, dark, deeper song to it that "fits normal Lyrium's", even though it is a different song. Red Lyrium seems to be associated with "Old Whispers" that wanted to be released. They could be related to Titans [if they were truly able to dream originally], the Evanuris sealed by Solas, or the unknown entities that the Tevinter called "Old Gods".
Old Gods, Archdemons, and The Blight
“The Old Gods are dragons.” The Architect chucked with amusement. “Is that all they are, human? Is that such a small thing, then? Are there so many such creatures in the surface lands that they are not something of wonder?” [...] “I do not know what an Old God truly is,” the Architect admitted. [...] “I have never seen such a creature in my lifetime. Nor do I know if doing so would be a good thing. All I know is that the call of the Old Gods is a thing of perfection.” It turned to look at Bregan again, its expression indiscernible but its tone soft and sad. “We are things of darkness, human. You know this better than any other might. To us, the call is the only light we shall ever know.” [Book The Calling]
“The Grey Wardens have never been successful in wiping out our kind. Four times we have found one of the ancient dragons slumbering in their prisons beneath the earth, the beings you call the Old Gods.” The Architect looked off into the distance, its demeanor melancholy. “They call to us, a siren song we cannot resist. We seek them out, and when they rise up to the surface, we follow. We cannot resist. And when your kind drive us back down, the cycle begins anew.” [Architect in The Calling]
Isseya heard a faint, strange melody seep into her mind. She had no sense of it as actual sound; rather, it seemed to come from within, almost as if she were humming the tune to herself. She could never have imagined such a song, though. It was the most beautiful thing she’d ever heard. Aching and ethereal, it seemed to pull her toward a memory of nostalgic bliss that she had somehow lost—but that she would do anything to recover. Anything at all. [Book Last Flight]
“The corruption that allows us to sense the darkspawn, and protects us from their taint, also causes us to experience some things as they do. The Archdemon’s call is among them. It’s the same song you’ll hear when the Calling comes upon you, and it will grow stronger as the corruption sinks deeper into your bones. Someday, if you wait too long, you won’t be able to resist. Your duty is to answer the Calling while you still have the choice.” “Does that happen faster because we hear the Archdemon’s song?” Isseya asked. Turab shrugged in a clanking of steel and silverite. “It might. It comes a little differently to each of us.”
Avernus [DLC: Soldier’s Peak and Avernus’ notes]: " I am starting to hear things, even while awake: A voice—more beautiful than any other—that calls to me from the depths. In my dreams, I see the Black City, and I am drawn towards it. There is something there, an answer to what this taint is, this taint that we share with the darkspawn..."
“What happens if the Old Gods perish? Does the song die with them?” [Awakening, The Architect's Notes]
Only comment of Cole when stepping in front of the Shrine of Dumat: "This is a sad place, filled with old pain. People spoke here, and something listened, until it didn't."
Those who consume Darkspawn's blood can hear the song of the Archdemons [Ghoul (Inquisition)]
Cole, in Western approach says two lines: “The song never sang for them. They were lucky.” [Probably about warden who died in duty without experiencing the Calling, or he may be referring to the Call of Corypheus] and “The darkspawn are below us. A long way, but still singing.”
"It scratches at my thoughts, the music almost a voice, at once unearthly and beautiful. I found myself humming it aloud a few days past. Where once it intruded, it now feels a natural part of my mind's course. It coils around memories I hold dear [...] and inserts itself into them, so that I could almost swear that music, that sense of a presence watching and calling, had always been a part of what I remember. [...] I should not find it beautiful. I must remember the corruption and recognize that my mind is slowly losing the wit to differentiate between this world, and that which would consume and destroy it. [...] But if I am to die, after all I have given, can I not at least allow myself the pleasure of the song's beauty?" [Regarding the Calling]
"I hear a song in my head. It's deafening. The most beautiful thing I've ever heard. But I don't hear it with my ears. It's in my brain. A blissful sound. This must be the call for which the darkspawn yearn, what causes them to dig so feverishly." [To Be Corrupted]
“I can't explain the sound—the song—but I knew. It's a poison that grows in the mind, then consumes the body.” [Warden Ailsa's Diary]
The song of the Blight sometimes is a set of sounds or a voice.
The Old Gods, or their corrupted version the Archdemons, sing a song of "perfection". The Blight and the blighted creatures are things of darkness, and this song is the only light they will ever know, creating a compulsion to reach it.
The song they hear is mixed with their dearest memories, building up the compulsion. The song is ethereal and aching too, an extreme beauty.
Avernus in particular feels a voice directed towards the Black City, which will answer his questions about the Taint.
The song intensifies during the Blights, so the Grey Wardens may end up suffering their Calling in a premature way.
It's not clear if the song will die with the extinction of the Old Gods.
The only true reference that Cole does to an Old God was in the Shrine of Dumat. I'm saying "true reference" because we can't be sure that these dragons trapped underground are the same Old Gods that the Tevinter heard in their dreams in the beginning of times. So far, Cole does not say they sing, and he describes the place as an "old pain". He uses "old pain" usually to describe elves, but I think here the context is different: the old pain is in the whole Shrine, probably when Dumat stopped talking to his priests, and the people worshipping him entered in despair.
There is only one case of a person who was free of her Calling, as well as the Taint: Fiona. Her conditions may have implied a pregnancy by a dragon-blooded man [Maric] that may have caused a resistance to the Taint; or her previous possession by a spirit/demon. This last situation may have given her extra resistances to the Blight since we know Seekers, who are touched by spirits after a year of being tranquils, are resistant to things such as Red Lyrium.
Corypheus can reproduce a song similar to the Old Gods’ even when he is unconscious, since he did it at first as he was sleeping. Grey Warden mages were the most sensitive ones to this calling.
Conclusions on Old Gods, Archdemons and the Blight: The Archdemons' song and the song in the Taint are the same: it's a beautiful set of sounds, a song, or a voice of immense beauty, that mixes itself with the dearest memories of the blighted creature, and creates compulsion. Clearer minds know this song comes from the Black City. It is suggested that killing the Old Gods would not end the song because the origin of it is not the Old Gods per se, but the inside of Black City.
Elves and Uthenera
The elven song Uthenera seems to be translated as a process where they sing, rejoice, but there is sorrow too [In Uthenera].
Elvhen weep as they enter Uthenera. It's a sad event, more than a relief to an eternal life [A Flowering Imago, and Untranslatable Elven Writing]
Flemeth returns to life in DA2 when Merril narrates a part of the Song Uthenera.
If Cole is a spirit, and walks along Excavated Caves, he will say: "The songs are old here. Sleeping sadness already forgotten. I can’t help this hurt." [He says songs, so I assume it's the Elvhes. The titan's song is usually one.]
Cole in the Deep Roads, where we find the chamber with the Uthenera elvhen in Trespasser: “They're all singing. Coffers, coffins, corpses that aren't dead. A song crying out in the dark.”
Cole: There are songs in every part of you, Sera. Soft silly sibilant, sighing in silence, waiting for you to hear them. Sera: Could someone please shut him up. Or I’m going to shaft him in his creepy, little eyes. Cole: You...you called me “him”. Thank you!
Cole: You are quiet, Solas. Solas: Unless I have something to say, yes. Cole: No, inside. I don't hear your hurt as much. Your song is softer, subtler, not silent but still. Solas: How small the pain of one man seems when weighed against the endless depths of memory, of feeling, of existence. That ocean carries everyone. And those of us who learn to see its currents move through life with their fewer ripples. Cole: There is pain though, still within you. Solas: And I never said that there was not.
Uthenera seems to be a very sad process more than a relief to eternal life. Always that an elvhen enters Uthenera, there is weeping and sadness. It gives the impression of being a process without return.
Cole speaks of "old songs" when we head towards a Chamber of Uthenera.
When we see the Uthenera coffins, Cole reinforces the idea that they are singing. This brings to our minds the idea implied in Raising the Sonallium [“The well-dressed elves' shouting grows so loud, it can be heard over the magic.” It seems to imply the spell is related to some communal chanting].
Elven bodies naturally have songs associated with them. Cole detects Sera's songs who are ignored by her, and Solas', which is quieter and sad.
Conclusion on Elves and Uthenera: Elves seem to have songs associated with their bodies. It’s not clear if the Uthenera allows the elves to maintain a song while eternally slumbering, or their natural, intrinsic song is what Uthenera uses to keep these songs. In any case, entering Uthenera is a sad, weeping process, implied that has no turning back, and it’s seen more as a final death than a relief.
[I will eventually make another post about Uthenera in a more global approach beyond its song-aspect]
Magic and Fade
The Fade or the Magic also have a song, that may be the one associated with the elves:
Dorian: Cole, do you hear magic? Cole: Yes. I do. Don't you? Dorian: Spells sometimes makes a sound but... I don't think we hear the same thing. Cole: Don't your spells whisper things to you? What is and could be, music in the mind of strange, far away places? Dorian: Not lately. Cole: Then we don't hear the same thing.
Cole: Do you feel spirits move around you when you cast a spell? Bits of them push through with your magic, tiny, a wisp of a wisp, free before falling back. They pool around you, water in a cup, defined, deafened, hearing only your song. They want to skate, scintillate on skin. You made them them. Their Maker. Vivienne: Now. I need. A bath.
Cole: Dorian is like you, Vivienne. Vivienne: I think not. Dorian: Vivienne, the poor thing is trying to pay you a compliment. How so, Cole? Cole: The Veil sings around both of you. It whispers through you and makes you both brighter. Vivienne: The same could be said of any mage. Beyond that, I have little in common with a noble from Tevinter. Cole: No. For most mages, it's a tool. A toil. You make it you.
Cole on Inquisitor who specialised on Rift Magic: “The Fade sticks to mages. Little figments, flitting, floating free, then forced into shapes. Fire, ice, lightning. You use the Fade itself. You make it charged but not changed, channelled enchantments. It’s strong and pure. And loud. You ripple like water when the tone is dropped. Solas is the same, but quieter. The Fade is his friend. He doesn’t need to look to know where it goes. Vivienne is crisp and cool. The Fade dances, darts, lashes and leashed. Dorian pulls at pieces, pushing them to bodies. I like him more when it’s just fire. And the Venatori are dark and hard and cracked and old. They pull the Fade with blood and pain and ancient lying whispers. […] [Rift Magic] is familiar. It reminds me of me.”
"The ancient dwarves who inhabited this place could not have known, as they are deaf to the song of the Fade " [ Note From the Silent Quarter, from Hissing Wastes]
Conclusion on Fade and Magic: Spells are cast tapping into the Fade, and apparently, this is from where the songs and the whispers come from. Sometimes it’s implied they come from the Veil too. It's also described that the Mages produce a song that attracts spirits and shapes them into magic, ironically turning the mage into their Maker [this is an interpretation very close to Zathrian and the Lady of the Forest]. The Fade used in order to cast blood magic seems to invoke ancient lying whispers. We have an unreliable source [the Chant of Light] which claims that the blood magic was taught by the old gods, while the Fel grimoire [a bit more reliable] claims it was the Forbidden Ones were those who taught it to humans, so this may imply that casting magic makes use of the songs of different spirits in the Fade. These ancient lying whispers could be connected to the Red Lyrium whispers and to Cole's line: "The song behind the door old whispers want opened".
Extra things with unclear songs
Cole, in the Shattered Library; Courtyard: "Your hand hurts. A heartbeat. Not yours. Hammering the beat of a song in its final verse. I'm sorry."
Here, Cole refers to the Anchor, and its song may be related to the same song that we covered in the Magic and Fade [after all, the Anchor is made of Fade energy]. Combined to this bit follows:
In Solasan Temple, Coles says once the inquisitor collected all shard: “It will open now. They can all sing together”
Where Cole seems to refer to the small pieces of energy we find in the sarcophagi of the Solasan Temple, which want to join the Anchor. These songs seem to be related to the Fade too.
Cole, in Forbidden Oasis: “Digging and delving like dwarves. Do they hear the old song, too?”
Cole refers with this line to the miners in the Forbidden Oasis, thinking they are like dwarves, drawn to the “old song”=Titans.
Cole in Fallow Mire: So many old songs under the water.
I’m a bit confused with this one. In Fallow Mire we have people who died due to a plague. Many of them ended up as walking corpses inside the water. If Cole is referring to something underground, we have no idea about it, since it was never implied that Fallow Mire had any ruin or the like underground. So my guess is that the spirit of the people, trapped in the corpses, are the ones making the song. But this is weird too, since humans do not seem to have a song. At least Cole never suggested that. Only dwarves and Elves have it.
Cole as he approaches the flooded lake in Crestwood: It sounds different. The water changes the song.
We know that under Crestwood there was a strange dwarven ruins which had Paragon statues but also Tevinter ones that resemble a bird or a dragon [Tevinter bird]. This confuses me a lot, because Cole refers to one single song. Is there a titan below Crestwood?
Cole, in Storm Coast: “The temples have a lot of keys. They all sing, but never the same song.”
Again, I’m not sure what he is referring to. This is Storm Coast, and there are no Temples, and underground there is only an old place of business exchange between dwarves and surfacers. Below there, we find the Titan of the Descend dlc, although along the way we find some chambers with Claw of Dumat and Tevinter birds that may be considered a “kind of temple”. But this would imply that these gods also have a different song to the titan deep below? I’m super confused with this one.
Dorian: Do you need to eat, Cole? Or sleep? Cole: I thought I had to. But I don't. The Old Songs can pull me.
In general, we know that Cole speaks of the Titan’s song as “the old song”, while the elves have different old songs. In this line he may imply that the Old elvhen songs pull him into the Fade when he sleeps? Or to the Black City? I’m not sure how to interpret this one.
What Cole reads in one of banters where he simply reads Solas' mind for some seconds: "He hurts, an old pain from before, when everything sang the same. You're real, and it means everyone could be real. It changes everything, but it can't. They sleep, masked in a mirror, hiding, hurting, and to wake them... (Gasps.) Where did it go? Solas: I apologize, Cole. That is not a pain you can heal. "
This may imply that all these small songs we found in different places, were all the same: The titans, and the Fade’s song, and the elves’ and the lyrium’s. I’m not counting on their corrupted versions. They seems to be the other part of the songs that were broken.
General Conclusions
In Principle, there are FOUR songs: the Titan’s, the Red Lyrium’s, the Archdemon’s and the Elves’.
First song: the titan’s
It seems very clear that the Lyrium, as a titan's blood, carries the song of the Titans. A sad, lonely song about the fall of the Titans and the disconnection with their children, producing two different kinds of dwarves. Some with the echo of the song [modern dwarves], others apparently silent [Sha-Brytol?].
Modern dwarves have no dreams and can't manipulate magic because there is no room for the Fade to enter them, since they are all the time reaching to this original song and to the Titan.
Apparently, when the Titan was whole and the dwarves were part of it, they had an unclear connection to the Fade, dreams, and magic to a point where the modern limitations of magic did not affect them.
Due to the consumption of Lyrium, Templars sound a bit like dwarves, and we can even consider them “artificial” children of the Titans. However, they are chained to Lyrium, reinforcing the idea that Lyrium can be used to create a kind of slavery. In the Templar's case, this slavery comes from the addiction to it.
The Qunari fear this song in the lyrium, but it's unclear why. It may be related to their own nature of being a race created through experiments. Maybe their fears comes from an unconscious perception that their wrong blood was created through the use of painful procedures based on lyrium?.
Second song: the Red Lyrium’s
Red Lyrium is a different song to the Titan's; it is darker, deeper, sick, but it seems to "fit" together. It’s associated with a song that uses whispers to ask for the gates to be opened. It may be related to blood magic as well due to the link Cole does with the Venatori magic.
It’s not clear what the entity that whispers into the Red Lyrium is. It may be Old Gods, Evanuris, or Titans [if they were capable of dreaming before the war against he elvhenan].
Third song: the Archdemons’
Another song comes from the “corrupted Old Gods”, the Archdemons, and the Blight in general which seems to point out to the Black City. This song seems independent of the Titans', but quite closely related to the Red Lyrium’s.
Curiously, the Archdemons and the Blight seem to have a lot of common mechanism with the Titans and their blood: Lyrium. It’s as if the Blight were a creation trying to imitate the characteristics of the Lyrium. What I mean is: The Blight works for the Archdemons in a similar way as the Lyrium works for the Titans: they carry a song related to them and their needs. In the case of the Archdemons, it’s a song that inspires compulsion to awake them and free them [even beyond the dragons itself, since Avernus can feel the call towards the Black City]. In the case of the Titans, it’s a song to reach their children and know the truth of the past and connect the dwarves to them.
The natural children of the Blight are the darkspawn, born from broodmothers, while their “artificial” children are the wardens and the ghouls [those who connect to the Archdemon through the consumption of blighted blood], all of them suffering compulsion as a sort of slavery. The natural children of the Titans are the dwarves that were severed from them, while their “artificial” children are the Templars [and Sha-Brytol?] who connect to them faintly through the consumption of Lyrium suffering addiction as a sort of slavery.
I think that due to these common mechanisms, and taking into account their differences and subtleties, it looks like “someone” tried to emulate the lyrium’s powers and its relationship with the Titans, and created the Blight and attached it to the dragons. I would not be surprised if the Evanuris created the Blight trying to emulate the Titan’s power and their control over the dwarves as a means to slave elvhenan in another level, and ended up creating the Blight, trying to attach it to the only dragon we know for sure among the Evanuris: Mythal, killing her in the process [but this is a speculative motivation, I think the Evanuris may have had many other reasons to develop a new kind of slavery of their own people by using Titan-like mechanism].
Fourth song: the Elvhen and the Fade’s
The Elvhes and the Fade have mixed different songs. It’s implied that Uthenera may be a process to sing forever to, probably, control the slumber of the Titans [this is also a speculation].
It’s not clear what’s the meaning of the song in the body of the elves. Each of them seem to have several different songs one another. They seem not to fit well neither with the Titan’s song, nor the Red Lyrium, nor the Archdemons’. This song in the elves may be a red herring to confuse us in identifying the Titan’s and the Archdemon’s songs.

What if Sig got to the Tome of Sealing first? AKA Tomo AU
hi again tumblr, please dont expect a whole lot from this blog, once again, but, i wanted to post like a little basic thing about this au i've had since 2021 now that i'm back into puyo again,
this is an au that Heavily relies on bits of fanon and headcanon to make it work cuz canon is puyo puyo is very fucking wishy washy but essentially, what if sig had checked out the tome of sealing from the library before klug was able to? (sorry if this is a bit scatterbrained, im not good at organizing my thoughts much,,)
(also please dont mind some of the art, im like an ok artist at best and some of this shit is from 2 years ago as well)
so like, as the absolute fucking nerd i am, i made like an initial google doc on this thing outlining most of the shit im about to summarize here (that i might link if someone asks at some point i guess idk) as well as a fanfic, didnt finish that though, i got like through barely a chapter before i stopped and then i got into sam and max but that's unrelated to now
ANYWAYS, the au is as it sounds, sig goes to precise museum and, guided by the voice of the crimson soul, finds the tome of sealing and checks it out (much to akuma's chargin,,) and then he checks out the book again,,, and again,,,, and a gain,,,, (you see where this is going)
but uh, why is it called tomo au? see im being a little shitter here and i thought maybe the crimson soul's memory would be a little shot after spending ages in a book so they might not remember their name and sig is like "you're my friend now so i'm gonna call you friend/tomodachi" but then he's like "that's too long i'm gonna call you tomo instead" so they just go along with it, for future reference, anytime i mention the crimson soul i'm gonna be calling it Tomo
wow that's really fucking big sorry,
sig has an immense attachment to tomo from the get go btw, he's like, i wanna say like 8 or so when he first gets to the book, so besides the obvious literal halvsies soul connection there's that childhood connection as well,
side note: they can speak to each other cuz of that soul connection btw, it's my personal headcanon that after slug (canon strange klug/the crimson soul) can speak to anybody who they've possessed before as well as their other half, so in canon klug and sig can hear the book talk but in this au only sig can hear them
also, the reason why tomo doesn't attempt to take over sig right from the outset is A) they dunno where the unsealing objects are and B) sig is a child and uh, another part that i'm still trying to work the kinks through of is whether tomo decides to hold off on doing the fusion dance of their own volition or if because the cyan soul (which can speak to tomo, but only when sig is asleep cuz when sig is awake the cyan soul IS sig, nother headcanon sorry) decides it's too soon, they probably have memories of previous incarnations stored in there and know that eventually sig will start showing more demonic traits but not when he's baby
wow this is getting to be a lot but we're not even done cuz now i gotta talk about what this means about shit like fever 2 and such (y'know canon things and all)
boy tumblr just hates making images smaller nowadays huh,
so when sig starts showing signs of his heritage (i.e., a bit before fever 2 happens) tomo and sig start to hatch a plan to get tomo a body back! of course, tomo is omitting some things about how they're actually going to go into sig's body cuz at this point they've been together for a few years now and sig trusts tomo as like, a best friend i guess? something like that,
so sig is under the impression tomo is gonna be released and get their old body back and tomo is under the impression that as soon as the seal releases they'll enter sig's body, join back up with the cyan soul, and return to their original form,
so sig transfers over to amitie and klug's class, (tomo) overhears that lemres is coming into town with the items they need, and they steal the shit and head to the ruins to perform the unsealing
SPOILERS! shit goes wrong
ignore how shitty the ms paint art from a couple of years ago is, might change the hair to be more red in future art
for reasons (that i also need to workshop because to be honest originally it was a "whoever unseals it gets their soul swapped with whoever is trapped in the book" but like??? idk if that's how it should work when it comes to these two specifically), sig and tomo swap places instead of a fusion happening,
sucks balls for both of them cuz this is like the Last thing either of them wanted out of this tbh, sig obviously because well, trust got broken and ended up trapped til the artifacts are stolen (klug either swaps roles with amitie or sig, haven't figured that one out yet either) and tomo most certainly doesn't want sig trapped, as they wouldn't want anyone to experience the loneliness of being sealed away like they were (except klug, fuck klug specifically) (also the chronicles drama cd mentions that part of tomo's character in it so it works for my purposes)
this image wasn't necessarily specific to tomo au but i thought it would fit anyways, sorry it's a bit blurry my phone wouldnt focus on the damn thing properly
and after fever 2,,, i kind of dont have as clear of a story? or a plan? there's some tension between sig and tomo for at least a little while but sig eventually forgives them, as well i don't know how i would tackle something like sig's secret if at all?? but yeah that's the main shit to this au, sorry it's all so very long! this has been on my mind for a few weeks now and it was on my mind for months back in 2021, so i just have a lot i'm throwing out here into the wind, if you got this far: thanks so much for reading!
here's some bonus shit for getting to the end of the main shit:
tomo calls sig "little blue" sometimes, since he's yknow, younger than them and blue but calls the cyan soul their "other half"
if you couldn't tell from the first image, since sig has his bookbag, he carries tomo around in that, but if he's stopped somewhere he'll leave the book open next to him so tomo can see around (hard to see with the covers in the way)
sig was already probably ostricized for yknow, his autistic tendencies, the book did not help with that, but it gave him a trusted confidant :)
sig actually starts developing his demonic traits earlier than in canon due to his proximity to tomo, but not by much
klug has stolen the book before, both demon halves were not pleased with this and klug has not attempted to steal the book again
sig can supplement his own magic power with tomo's for an incredibly large boost, and tomo doesn't mind doing so, this gives sig almost the exact same amount of power as the full demon used to have and also changes his right eye to red
OH, both relevant to this au and my own interpretation: the full demon's name was wisteria, but neither sig nor tomo remember it until either are reminded of that
ok that's it go home now bye bye
#sig puyo puyo#strange klug#puyo puyo#puyo puyo au#long post#under the cut i mean#tomo au#Get me an art tag the thrilling saga#WAIT YOU CAN EDIT TAGS ON TUMBLR NOW WHEN WAS THIS A THING#tldr i have a lot of thoughts about this dumbass au i've made enjoy my scattered ramblings 👍

4.) How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?
Too many to count and there's always something new showing up when I least expect it. Both a curse and blessing to be a fic writer with an overactive imagination.
So one that has been sitting in the back of my mind for a while is the Code Realize fusion fic where Eddie has a toxic touch. I haven't really written anything out yet, but I've got a general idea of how the first part of the story would go.
It would start with the local military of Central City, led by General Eiling, converging on a nearby abandoned town. Specifically a house where the town's sole inhabitant lives. Eddie Thawne. Eddie knows he's not supposed to go anywhere - the house he lives in is the only one where he can touch anything without his melting away to nothing. He never grows hungry and his boredom is relieved by the small library of books within, but Eddie longs for companionship.
Companionship his father's letter forbids him. Because, according to Eobard Thawne, Eddie is a monster.
But Eiling's arrival changes things. The General refuses to leave without Eddie and threatens to destroy the house itself if that's what it takes to force Eddie to go with him. Eddie can't risk his one sanctuary being destroyed and, reluctantly, agrees. But Eiling destroys the house anyway. 'Cause he's a jerk.
Dismayed because now the only things he can touch are the ones Eiling stole from the house before setting it on fire, Eddie thinks his only choice now is to go with Eiling; he can never escape to go home now, like he'd been hoping. But at the outskirts of town, a new option appears - a phantom thief calling himself the Flash appears, taunting Eiling and running off with Eddie in his arms.
The Flash introduces himself once they're safely away. His real name is Barry Allen and he needs Eddie's help, if Eddie's willing to give it. He's looking for Eobard Thawne, Eddie's father... because he has reason to believe Eobard Thawne is planning a terrorist attack on Central City. Eddie wants to find his father too. To find out whether he's truly planning something so terrible... but also to find out why he's a 'monster' and what it has to do with the shining stone he has in place of his heart.
That's when Cisco would show up with his steampunk car, introduced as the first of Barry's allies.
Since the game is heavy on the steampunk, I'd want to keep that as the setting for the series. And the eventual main ship would be Westhallen, though I'm still debating how to introduce Iris. I think it'd be fun to have her be the detective nemesis of Barry's, but that's a bit fuzzy right now and I want to be sure of what Iris' part in the series is before I start writing... for all that she won't show up for a while regardless.
7.) Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
“Oh, honey,” Lisa patted his hand, “you look like you’re gonna cry. I’m a good listener if you need someone to talk to about what’s going on?”
She was the first person to just… touch him like it was no big deal since the lightning struck. Iris always hesitated, always had pity in her eyes. Joe looked guilty, as though he felt he should have protected Barry better. (And he should have; he’d laughed off Barry’s concerns about that damn skylight like everyone else did and now look at him. Barry was never going to be the same again. Scars like these don’t go away over time.) But Lisa didn’t flinch at the sight when he opened the door. Didn’t look him over with disgust. Didn’t make him feel like a freak just for surviving something that left its mark on his skin.
Barry started crying.
~ From Chrysalis
So in this fic series it was important to me that Barry had scars left from the lightning strike. I'd been rewatching some of S3 at the time and I was reminded of how Savitar's scars on the show were part of what marked him as the evil Barry - just some more of the show's casual ableism really. I wanted to write something where Barry had those scars - or similar ones, anyway - and it didn't make him the bad guy.
Once I had that premise, I had to consider what everyone's reactions would be. And that Barry would be pushing away Iris and Joe as much because of their actual reactions to him as well as what Barry was imagining their reactions to him were. Everything always seems worse when your stuck inside your own head, after all, and Barry is very much that here, struggling with the way strangers look at him now and the way he feels about himself when he looks in the mirror.
And then finally I arrived at this scene where Lisa shows up. She's been a bit worried about her shut in neighbor and her concern for him isn't something he can write off as obligation or morbid curiosity. She's just kind when he needs it most. And it was a turning point in accepting himself that Barry needed.
I was really proud of how this fic turned out and that there wound up being more story to tell afterwards. But I think this first one is still my favorite, thanks to the way Lisa and Barry's friendship develops from here.

So I have a fic I’ve written a bit of which follows the idea of the force touching sentients the same way that it does planets (the theory on how kyber grows) and so these people can sorta… grow kyber at will. But also they sorta glow at all times.
Like it can happen to anyone of any species and it makes them basically immortal (which came to me as an idea when I thought of Fay being one of them and then I was all ‘what if Tarre Viszla was too?????’ And so it’s also a Mandalore fix it because Mandalore is thriving in both politics and having their own ka’ra temples because he’s still alive and in charge) and also I took a massive fusion of sorts from the species The Makers from the book The Magnum Opus (made me cry like a bitch at times it’s one of my fave books) and also from the Star Wars Visions episode The Ninth Jedi (meaning the theory about being able to shape or temper kyber which is the coolest idea in all existence okay I lost my mind I still haven’t found it) and so like it’s got a lot of ideas shoved into it!!!
Basically these people are immortal, can make kyber (but for all of them it’s an extremely different process and it starts with Obi-Wan realizing he can make kyber in a very dangerous way when he gets kidnapped and also Fay is his master cause Qui-Gon isn’t the same species as them so bad idea and he freaks out before Tarre explains to him their people are kybersmiths and he has the ability to turn this very dangerous kyber weapon he made into something else in a way that no one else can) and they are all KyberSmiths and it manifests physically differently in each of them-
Either way. Because of that physical difference they all have. Like it’s explained in the fic but it sounds sorta crackish in a post but for example Tarre’s armor???? It’s not made of Beskar, it’s made of a dense Force energy that’s basically impenetrable. Stuff like that.
But. Since it shows up differently in all of them. And it can change and flux over time. My brain was like. ‘What if they have magic glowing cutie marks?????’ And now they have cutie marks. I’m obsessed.

Your mention of Booktok reminded me of how much I hate when people advertise their stories as being "A fusion of (popular book X) and (Popular book Y)!" But without them actually giving any substance as to WHAT is actually going on in their own story. This seems to happen a lot from what I've seen sent to me from Booktok. (Don't have Tiktok myself) Like, "Do you like X, do you like Y? My book is BOTH!" and then they can't even give a summary of what their story even is like, and it just ends up sounding completely boring, and it feels like the only reason the mentioned the popular books was to get more attention, and to avoid people openly calling them plagiarisers, because the hands down just seemingly copied plot points from the mentioned (and non-mentioned) books/stories completely. Just seeing someone advertise a story, and then checking it out, and the reviews or even the excerpts sound like a #Alternate Universe-Fusion Fanfic of the Popular books, basically a complete play-by-play just with the "Authors" own OC's and maybe a tiny bit of tweaking. And like, using other stories to maybe get a bit of attention isn't that egregious, but if that's the only selling point then maybe the story isn't actually that good. Especially if the main reason people check it out is because of that claim. Building your entire advertisement on the backs of books by other accomplished authors also seems like a shaky foundation for any story, especially if you can't back it up with your own skills and talent in writing. Repeat: Using it as a way to "show" what genres you went into: Ok. But using it to build your entire foundation, without your story actually being able to hold that hype, and without your own story even being part of the adverstiment: Meh
I remember my first time encountering that kind of marketing in the wild. It was back when I was still working my healthy-living/fitness job and I had agreed to cover a shift a few cities over. The shopping center that location was in had a Barnes and Noble right next to it so, when I was done with the shift, I decided to swing by to wait for traffic to die down.
As I was browsing, I saw that they had this novel with a beautiful Kente cloth-inspired cover and I was intrigued but I had never heard of the author so I looked the novel up on the Barnes and Noble website.
It was a bestseller... But the only description/summary they had for it was 'Like an African Game of Thrones!'
So I was like 'that literally tells me nothing, but okay..?' And I tried looking up other reviews or synopses and everyone was carrying on with 'like an African Game of Thrones', 'if you love strong black protagonists with a dash of Harry Potter, then you'll love this', etc. It got to the point where I was like 'okay, none of you guys are telling me what the book is actually about and the book itself doesn't have a summary. So I'm going to put this down and take a look at the graphic novel/manga section'
Just... TELL ME WHAT YOUR BOOK IS ABOUT. If, after a substantial summary, you want to say something like 'the thematic elements and cadence bring to mind something like *insert popular franchise here*' then I at least have your piece's individual identity before I start making comparisons to other popular media.

Eh, I want to stretch out bit from sonic with prime season 3 come out. And therefor I want to express my feelings with another franchise that I dearly missed so much.
So...
Don't mind me, just putting one of my fav scene, from Malaysian's kids show: Boboiboy 😘
Courtesy of: Monsta Channel (YouTube). English dub available on Netflix. Sub available on YouTube.
I cannot held my tears how far monsta team improved their animation from 2011 until now😭
Like bro I went back from hiatus of this franchise since 2014 and I meet with this?!
Holy- The voiceline, the 3D animation, the music, the effects, the movement and that details! It's soooooooo much better and mucn smoother!
I mean this is a quality from SEA! Not western or East Asian countries!
(btw this is a cut version just to show the fusion scene. The actual scene is longer than this).
For comparison, this is how they animated Boboiboy's first fight from the early generation of Boboiboy back in 2011:
(also fuck you Tumblr, I can't post more than 1 vid so I made it gif instead >:[. )
(lol I miss these trio so much, why monsta? :')
Man, i need to recap myself like hooo boy marathon TV and comic book. It's been long time I did this intense marathon after Det. Conan😅
But I'm done and want to share my thoughts on the next post! 😄👍

So I've been having some... thoughts lately, and they'll be posted under a "Read More" thing because I have a feeling this is going to get a little lengthy. For those of you I talk to on Discord, this is nothing new to you. I've discussed it at length. I'm posting this more for the benefit of those I don't talk to on Discord.
Don't worry, it's nothing bad or anything!! And tl;dr: the blog's not going anywhere. I've just had some stuff on my mind.
A lot of people who know me well enough know how I feel about my art and all that, but something that's been on my mind for the past two years or so is the question of whether or not my ask blog has been holding me back from improving as an artist. And I think after thinking on it, the answer is... kinda yes and kinda no. Like on one hand, I know I've improved from when I started this blog. That's obvious, like go at how badly I used to draw Kass and laugh at it.
But on the other hand, I think there's only so much you can do to improve when you're focusing on drawing the same thing all the time, and I feel like lately... especially lately... my art has been extremely stagnant. Not bad, just kinda same-y. And I know it's awful of me, but I look around on Discord servers and see so many other people improve practically at light speed, and I won't lie, I can't help feeling rather envious. One thing they all have in common? They're not only drawing for ask blogs.
Don't get me wrong. I love drawing for this blog, but I also love improving and the satisfaction that comes from it, and I think I'm getting to the point where I can't have my cake and eat it too in that regard sadly. SO maybe it's time to start taking a page from their book and start spending a little less time drawing for this blog and a little more time drawing... well, literally anything else. Practicing fundamentals, drawing other people's characters besides my own more, fusions, or hell even drawing non-Pokemon content. I feel like at this point, that's the only way my art's going to see any real, significant improvement.
My conundrum has always been that I also don't like feeling left out, feeling like I have nothing to show or talk about because I'm stuck in the corner drawing practice stuff you'd learn in an art class while everybody else gets to have fun talking about their characters and plots and stuff. I mean, who wants to see me draw that weird boxy mannequin thing like 5000 times to learn how to draw humans when I could be drawing my seal, right? That is why this blog is not going on hiatus. But content probably will be a bit slow for the foreseeable future, at least until I can consistently achieve that speed and technique that many of the other people I look up to have down to a science. Or at least to some extent.
For the time being, I also want any time I do work on this blog to be focused on plot, because if I can't be excited for my art right now, I can at least be excited for plot, right?. Namely I want to bring back the comic and just doing more with Kass in general because I know the poor guy's been neglected compared to Leilani. As such, with the exception of Mundays, the ask box is going to remain closed for now. I may work on asks and responses and stuff every now and then, but I think until I progress a bit more with plot, they need to be on the back burner for now. That... has to do with another, rather toxic mindset I need to work on breaking, to be honest.
And one last thing? I did make a general art blog awhile back that I've tried and failed to do something with in the past and I'm so sorry. orz But hey, third time's the charm, right?
And uhhhh that's all I really have to say. I do apologize in advance for the slower content, but it's only because I want to give all of you the best content I can, and I made it a New Years resolution to not be so negative about my art (whoops??), and maybe I gotta just... try something different to not be as negative.
#fance speaks#vent kinda??#something that's been on my mind for the past couple years#i'm sorry to all those who have listened to me be negative about my art#orz#i want to be better about it i swear#thank you for putting up with it you know who you are

10 Amazing Futurama Comics
There is a severe lack of Futurama content on this and other sites (seriously, the Night at the Museum movies have more fics than Futurama). And, nobody posts about the Futurama comics. So I’m posting 10 of my favorites.
10. Attack of the 50-Foot Amy (Issue #33)
It’s actually not as sexual as the cover makes it out to be. The basic premise is that Amy mistakes the can of growth spray (that Cubert and Dwight want to use for their science fair project) for hair spray and sprays waaaay too much before her anniversary date with Kif. Meanwhile, Bender teaches Fry the wonders of video piracy, but after he gets scared by a movie home alone style he eats his disc of pirated movies and starts uncontrollably acting them out. You can probably guess how these two plots connect.
While I do list this one as one of my favorites, it’s far from perfect. The artwork is good, but the scaling on Amy is very wonky so she looks more like a twenty-foot Amy (also Dwight’s eyes are drawn weird in this comic, he looks blazed out the entire time). But I cannot help but be charmed by this comic. It’s got some sweet Bender and Fry friendship moments and actually makes me believe Kif and Amy’s relationship for a little bit. They are very sweet in this comic, although Kif does go through some pain in this comic.
Best moments: They way they resolve the plot is actually pretty funny and clever, plus Bender hopped up on pirated movies is a joy. At one point Fry gets shoved by Steven Spielbot (don’t ask) and Bender goes all Rocky on his ass saying “No one talks to my gal, Adrian, like that!” It’s very sweet and...subtextual if you understand my meaning. This one also has anti comic book piracy message at the end which was ironic for me to read.
9. Doctor What (Issue #32)
The Professor creates a time traveling port-a-potty so that you can pee in whatever time and space you want, although it’s completely random. However, Zoidberg accidentally breaks the potty, so him, Leela, Fry, and Bender have to keep randomly flushing to get back home. On each of these new worlds Zoidberg keeps accidentally saving the citizens, getting medals, and ends up becoming addicted to the fame he keeps winning. Which leads to them getting stuck in a post apocalyptic New New York.
This is the infamous Leela-Bender-Fry fusion comic, Leelan von Fry-Bot. His backstory is actually a little sad, but I won’t spoil it here. This one is pretty good, because it has Zoidberg as the hero. Actually quite a few of these feature Zoidberg as a fourth member of the delivery crew which is weird, but not entirely unwelcome. It’s also fun to see these other worlds, and now that I think about it it’s actually a little similar to The Late Phillip J. Fry, what with the time travel to different interesting worlds.
Best Moments: I actually liked Leelan’s backstory, and his interactions with his “parents” (you’ll understand when you read it) are actually pretty funny and a little cute. Fry really wants to be a dad you can tell.
8. The Simpsons Futurama Crossover Crisis II
The professor creates a device that takes characters out of their stories into the real world. Trouble is, he tells the mayor that this invention is useful because you can get slave labor out of the characters because they technically have no constitutional rights. The Simpsons end up working with the Planet Express crew, but an accident leads to the release of ALL FICTIONAL CHARACTERS EVER.
This is a sequel comic to the Futurama Simpsons Infinitely Secret Crossover Crisis (fun fact: a reference to several famous comic book arcs). I chose this one above it though because I think it understood the assignment better. The original is funny, but I just don’t think that Springfield is a good setting for a Futurama crossover. Springfield for all its zaniness, is not the future. New New York, however, is great for this crossover. We get several scenes where we see the Simpsons going through space and fighting off monsters. We even get to see the other residents of Springfield in the future, Mr. Smithers becomes a space pirate and Mr. Burns falls in love with Mom, it’s great.
Best Moments: Some of them I already mentioned, but I cannot stress enough how hilarious the Burns-Mom romance is, it’s especially good when you can hear their voices in your head. I also like the friendship the Simpsons have with the Planet Express crew.
7. Six Characters in Search of a Story (Issue #14)
This is a very interesting comic. The Professor falls asleep, so to pass the time the crew decides to look through his old failed inventions, and well, that’s a very bad idea. The most interesting thing about this comic is it’s designed so that if you want you can only read certain panels to follow one person’s story. The Futurama comics do this a lot of the time and it’s always interesting.
The shenanigans that occur in this one are really funny, and there are some great looking pages in this. Also the Futurama crew clearly took ideas from the comics, and this is one of them. You can tell from the cover art that this does have elements of “Benderama” in it, what with Bender cloning himself ad infinitum. I also really like the climax, it’s a little schmultz-y for Futurama, but I don’t mind.
Best Moments: Fry gets stuck with a Spanish speaking Bender and I don’t know why but it’s really funny to me. The professor also gets some funny moments in this one. And Scruffy. Scruffy is always a delight.
6. Igner-ance is Bliss! (Issue #63)
Yeah this is the infamous robot Leela and Fry comic. Don’t worry, like the cover says, it’s not as dramatic as it looks. The crew has to go to a world that’s too dangerous for humans, so Fry, Leela, and Zoidberg all have their consciousnesses put into robot doubles so they can make the delivery. However, it turns out this planet is a sort of getaway spa for robots, and the crew decides to party it up there, at least until Bender discovers that this is a front for an evil plot by Mom. The subplot is mostly about how Igner is not respected by his brothers.
This one is fun, and I love a comic where Bender has to be the voice of reason. It is clearly killing him to be the responsible one, but I love it. Also, I have a soft spot for Igner, so it’s nice to see him get thrown a bone for once. This also has some really fun jokes with everyone, but Zoidberg in particular gets some bangers. I think my only problem is it ISN’T as cool as the cover makes it out, but like I’m happy with what it is.
Best Moments: Fry beats up Bender at one point and wins, I think he deserved it. Also, y’all know Admiral Ackbar from Star Wars? He makes some cameos in this one. Also all the robots (sans Bender) make a Japanese style mecha and it’s the coolest thing ever. Plus everything I’ve said about Igner I love in this one. Oh also Fry beats Calculon at poker and I really love that.
5. Who’s Dying to be a Gazillionaire? (Issue #5)
This one is sweet. The IRS is threatening to bankrupt Planet Express, and if they can’t think of a way to make a million dollars they will go out of business. No one really has any ideas and doesn’t even really care, except for Fry who is determined to save Planet Express. He gets the idea to go onto Who Wants to be a Gazillionaire to make the money, even though it’s a trivia show and if he loses he will die.
This one really warms my heart, it’s Fry at his best, just doing what he can for the people he loves. Even the professor is great in this one. I don’t want to spoil it, but trust me when I say it’s good (god I hope I’m not building this up too much).
Best moments: The end panel. But also the resolution of the story is great, and I really appreciate this comic for Fry as a character.
4. Rumble in the Jungle (Issue #38)
This is a fine comic. Leela is mad that she’s not being respected by Fry and Bender, and it’s bad enough that they don’t believe her when she says they’re going to crash into a planet. They end up parachuting down and getting separated. Leela ends up as queen of some workers in the “Amazon,” meanwhile Fry finds Bender’s corpse and goes off to avenge him.
This one is fun, and another fun one for Fry, because he’s determined to avenge Bender and works hard for it. This also includes the original Frender, not the ship but fusion. Leela and Fry even have a fight scene against each other and it’s honestly great.
Best Moments: Fry is great throughout the entire comic, and Leela spends most of her time beating up random animals. Bender also using a lead parachute he made out of toys he stole from children is funny, especially because I’m always a sucker for Bender doing dumb shit.
3. Don’t Go Taking My Heart! (Issue #69) (nice)
Mom only has a couple weeks to live, unless she can get a heart transplant. It’s revealed that Mom uses the cryogenics lab to get new body parts for herself, and that Fry was supposed to be her heart donor! Unfortunately, because he was unfrozen she now has to get him to work for Mom Corp to make sure his heart stays intact for the procedure.
If you can’t tell I love the Fry-centric comics, and I also like the comics where Mom is the villain. Of course this comic doesn’t go completely how you expect it to go, it’s actually REALLY sweet. I also love the fact that in this comic Fry actually makes a great intern. He basically has the job of a secretary and he’s GOOD at it. And I love seeing when Fry is good at things. The reason why I put this at only 3 is because it doesn’t really have a subplot. Bender gets a job at mom corp to but it’s only there for a couple pages, and Leela’s new crew gets two panels and that’s it.
Best Moments: The moments with Mom and Fry, but also guess who Mom’s doctor is? I’m actually not going to reveal it because it’s so random but also hilarious.
2. Boomsday! (Issue #58)
The Professor builds Bender his own parents, as a way to placate/discipline Bender. However, these parents decide that Fry is a bad influence on Bender, leading to them kicking him out. Meanwhile, the Professor’s doomsday devices are all stolen, and he has to go find them.
Both of these plots are funny and good. Bender’s plot is also really sweet what with his friendship with Fry, and his wish for parents. Meanwhile the Professor’s plot is just really funny and I do love seeing the Professor in his element. The ending is mostly heartwarming.
Best Moments: Everything with Fry and Bender, and Bender has a sweet relationship with his fake parents. Also, the Professor uses Issac Asimov candles on the robot mafia which I found a great joke. Oh, and the Professor’s first doomsday device was made when he was four years old and I love that. The end of the comic also has very nice message.
1. Rotten to the Core (Issue #27)
The world’s weather has gone kerflooey, and the Professor has figured out that his invention that can drill into the center of the Earth has been used. It conspires that Bender sold it at a yard sale to some aliens call the magmoids. The magmoids are trying to steal magma from the Earth’s core and the crew has to go and stop them.
This is my favorite because it’s a great character comic. All of the main three have great moments, and it’s also a great science comic. The Earth’s core is incredibly magnetic so of course Bender starts spouting out folk songs, and also SECRETS. I can’t believe no one has used the fact that canonically magnets make Bender incapable of telling lies. Anyway, it’s just really fun.
Best Moments: Way too many to count. Bender and Fry are told to cut out the “Brokeback Moanin,’“ Leela and Fry are bitter at the end, Fry tells story about his childhood, Bender has some great secrets to tell, the Professor gets a really fun ending, Bender has a rare moment of generosity, and the entirety of the climax is all kinds of fun and sweet.
#this is all part of my agenda to make more people watch futurama#or specifically read futurama because if you are antsy about watching a seven season show then at least you have 10 great comics you can rea#futurama#i try not to include frender in this but i'm easily susceptible to their friendship#turanga leela#phillip j fry#bender bending rodriguez#the professor#hubert j farnsworth#dr john zoidberg#john zoidberg#zoidberg#futurama comics
