I’m going to be honest I think some nico fans are a little to hard on fanfic writer’s people are writing for free and I see it all the time the notes when y’all attack shippers solangelo do this pernico do that people are writing for free and it keeps fandom alive driving people away cause one don’t like a ship is shitty just don’t read the story it free heck I’m in an anime community and if you know anime fans it gets nasty but even they try to not attack writers everyone is agreement not to attack artist drawing but why not extend the same grace to writers

It feels kinda breathless reading this but yeah I get your point and I wholeheartedly agree.

Even before engaging with the PJO fandom, I've been made aware of how nasty a English/Western-based (yeah I made that word up) fandom can get, so I'm mostly prepared to witness some... incidents (?). It's hardly a surprise at this point lmao.

There's always a line to follow. And someone behind you that would yell "Hey! That's mischaracterization!" whenever you're brave enough to escape the prison. This fandom treats unconventionality as if it was a crime, which reduces a lot of the fun. Shame.

I reckon it happens to every character's fandom, not only Nico - like, there should be a line when the community crosses a certain number, their quality decreases as much as it grows bigger. 😂😂😂 And yeah by that same logic, the Nico fandom would be one of the harshest bc the nature of his popularity.

I'm aware of the anime community. Though, if I read it right, anime originates from Japan, and Japan is without a doubt the laxxest when it comes to borderless creativity, so yeah, in a way, it's still better than a fandom brainwashed by the Western purity culture.

By the way, I don't think artists are any better in... whatever this is. if one is hateful towards something, they will attack the creator regardless of whether they're a fanfic writer or fanartist. Perhaps, the artists would have better chances of gaining a certain amount of supporters, who would defend them should need be, but again, that also means they have more risk of encountering nasty viewers as well.

All in all, things are not the brightest (since when they are anw) - that's why I'm here! 🥰🥰 To help destroy it faster, really.

Jk (or maybe not). I am proud to serve as a secure haven for those with unconventional creative sparks, even if it means challenging societal norms - for nothing other than to spite the shipping police, really. I make a point of trying to encourage every type of creativity, moreso to fanfiction just bc I'm mostly engaging it with - not bc my support is limited lol. I've been posting fanfiction to Ao3 for over four years, though I like to think I'm a better writer now than I was back in high school. Update and Fanfic Announcement with Cover Artist’s link

Hiya readers and fans, I have some updates on my one-shot series along with an announcement for a fanfic story I’m gonna be making about the Percy Jackson Universe.

Part 2 of the Dragon Ball Super AU is still being worked on, just having a hard time making it feel like its an actual Dragon Ball Super episode mix with Caleo. But I’m managing it somehow. Afterwards, Part 3 will get started and then I’ll finish off the Isekai story and started working on new ideas for Caleo. Also, if you have any fun ideas for a story about Caleo and want me to write it, leave a comment.

Fanfic Announcement:

When I was writing the Caleo series, an idea came to me. It was just after watching No Way Home in theater and I thought, “I wonder if that can be a fun idea of a story to write in the Percy Jackson universe.”

Of course, it’s just a FanFiction so it’s not canon. Just an idea I wanna to make. Basically, It’s pretty much making a new Spider-Man in the world of Percy Jackson. I know, sounds weird and doesn’t sound like a good idea; but, like I said, it’s just a fanfiction idea I wanna make and it’s too good to pass up. It’ll involve all the series in the PJO universe, with Estelle Blofis as the main character. The hard part for me was to find a good Cover for the story; until my friend recommended an idea to me. My friend is an artist and insist that she’d make the cover for the story.

I love her work and the thought of having her art as my cover for a fanfic trilogy was too much to pass. So she made the cover, and I was blown away on her work.

I will get started on working on this story; but before I can finish it, I also need to finish the Trials of Apollo Series along with Magnus Chase. Despite knowing the spoilers on ToA, I need to read it to find closure. And who knows, maybe my fanfic trilogy might give some of you some closure too, even if it’s not real.

A random thought: Because it’s Disney, Descendants doesn’t touch on prostitution, human trafficking, and violent sexuality and at a very early age that the VK had to live, as happens in the real world in invasions, guerrillas (child soldiers), street children or centers penitentiaries not properly regulated (such as the Isle of the Lost, a prison without guards and any law). But I don’t touch on the subject because it’s something very real and strong to expose it like that with the fandom but due to my profession and work, it’s something that my brain always remembers. Also, I don't like it when people treat these topics just for shock value.

An unpopular opinion: It's visibly awkward that ships and popular characters are mostly white. And I mean in the content of the fandom. Although we talk about the racism that exists in the canon, very few people seek to balance the numbers with new contributions  (whether with content with canon characters, OCs, or y/n). I don't know if it makes sense. But it seems that it is easy to talk about racism but not do something actively to include BIPOC characters (This is why I get excited when I find people drawing Audrey, Jay, Evie, Uma, and others without lightening their skin tone or writing fics with BIPOC y/n or creating things with the BIPOC canon characters as their main characters)

Most badass character: Uma

Pairing I am not a fan of: Any ship with Mal. Especially Mal canon. And I HATE Mal x Uma, Audrey x Mal and Ben x Mal. Because of the toxic and abusive environment.

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): 

Chad Charming.  From the start, Chad, Cinderella's son was turned into... a terrible character. Well, in the beginning, he is intelligent and manipulative, who knows how to use his charm against others. Brilliant. Cool. I can work with that. He may have an arc about learning about his wrongdoing and using his privileges to help others who don't. But no, the character just went downhill and became everyone's joke. 

Also, Ben, obviously. The movies wouldn't exist without him and he became an accessory to Mal. Disney can only write hero and damsel in distress, it seems. Because they do that to Ben. A tool to move the plot. My poor golden boy.

Favourite friendship: Jay and Lonnie. Give me two best friends who constantly joke around, kick each other's butt, compete in even the most ridiculous things, are affectionate with each other and even if they don't plan on it, they spend time together (I'm seeing you Jay and "I'm not going to invite no one to the ball but I'm going to dance with Lonnie all night ")

Character I want to adopt or be adopted by: I'm going to adopt Celia and no one will be able to stop me!

002: Bumarry,

When of if I started shipping it: Technically I answered this here. Also, from looking for Huma and Buma fics, I ended up finding my first Bumarry and... Oh, I got hooked on the idea.

My thoughts: They are my OTPoly (One True Polyship). I love them. Because they allow me to mix the variables and create new scenarios. After all the damage Ben has gone through, I inevitably want to give him the best and the best is Huma. What else can I say? It’s absolute logic.

What makes me happy about them: The devotion, affection, and strength they would have. Ben and Uma are very different leaders who complement each other very well and I could only trust Harry to take care of the two of them and give them the freedom they deserve. Ben is incredibly loving and that's something both Harry and Uma deserve to feel, Uma is incredibly protective and Ben needs that backing to rule and Harry needs that to stay alive every 5 seconds. Harry's loyalty is unprecedented, he would see to not only that everything is up to Ben and Uma's standards, but he would personally see that their dreams come true.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: It’s not in Bumarry itself. Actually, it's in Ben/Harry Hook, they usually play dirty with Uma. And it annoys me. They make her mean, jealous, cruel, or things like that to Ben and Harry. And this I came across once: They make Harry gay and that his relationship/dynamic with Uma is pure appearance. I had no problem with Harry being gay, but the justification for his sexual tension with Uma was all... Fake? No, it didn't fit in well with me. I think that's why when you ask me to write Ben/Harry Hook, Uma is there to give support. Don't play dirty with my queen.

Things I look for in fanfic: Uma dom! Uma top! Those are my favorite tags.

How I feel about this character: I love him! He has good intentions. Ben knows that he is in a position of power and struggles to take advantage of his privileges to change things. He is rebellious, the second he is going to take the throne he begins to dismantle the system. Ben has a good heart and wants to help other people. Besides, I love that he has his survival instinct broken.

It breaks my heart to know that he is completely alone in that department since D1 and is perpetuated throughout the following films. I also wanted him to end up with Mal.

Fanfic recs, with context.

I’m going to recommend some of the recent fanfictions I’ve bookmarked that people are mad about, because I can give context and actual links. They’re all public bookmarks that anyone can see on my page. I’ve gone through every Warning Tag and took the most recent ones. I chose recent ones because I have ~3K public bookmarks going back to 2016, when I was 15/16.

Content warning for discussions of rape, violence, gore, murder, sexual content.

my most recent bookmark: a question of trust by seraf: an all lower case WIP fic I read last night! It’s a canon divergent fanfic of the first danganronpa game, with taka being the main focus. There’s a lot of internally ableist and even internally homophobic thought processes, but they really capture taka’s character super well. The author also has written for The Magnus Archives!! Which is how I found them.

Most recent in my Underage Tags:

Blood and Magic by LostSouls: This one is also tagged for rape/noncon. This is a wrong boy who lived fic for harry potter. The main character was assaulted before the start of the fic, and the assailant was killed, and most of it is in context to her adoptive mother giving her medical treatment for extreme child abuse. The main character also dates a 17 year old at age 14, but their relationship doesn’t work out due to trust issues and the basis of their relationship/meeting relying on the MC’s sexual trauma. MC is now dating a 14 year old in her year though, and it’s a really nice relationship dynamic. The author has an awkward/uncomfortable way of working sexual implications, (frankly I don’t think it’s well written and is supposed to be a joke??).

The Viper by Whatifweweredogs: A hunger games fic with an interesting OC main character from District Ten. The noncon tag is likely for the reference to a character’s younger sibling being assaulted (which said character kills the person who assaulted her sister). I don’t quite remember every reference, but in the hunger games fanon, people will write in the peacekeepers sexually assaulting people, as well as the victors all becoming prostitutes with their friends and family being held hostage. There’s some graphic violence in this fic, as well as some really disturbing mutt creatures in the arena.

A note about Underage as a tag:  people seem to use it mostly to tag for underage sexual content, but some people tag it because in their country those characters would be of age, but generally are not, and some tag for underage romance, in the 14-17 year age range.

Perks of Beholding by Serazimei: A really good fic series about the crack headcanon of jon sims being able to speak to animals. The rape/noncon tag is there for non-consensual lotioning which is canon to The Magnus Archives.

Crocodile Tears by AudreyOctopus: Literally one of the best fanfictions I’ve seen of Johanna Mason’s hunger games, her internal thought process is crass and clever and amazingly written. There’s a TON of graphic violence as well as her being assaulted graphically while she had a flashback of her hunger games and kills her assailant, following the fanon consensus of victor’s having their families being held hostage so they do things. ALSO lesbian johanna, she has a girlfriend in this fic.

Dread Child Jon by Ketakoshka: A really good WIP series of what if Jonathan Sims from The Magnus Archives was a literal child of one of the forces in that podcast’s universe. The one for Beholding, Little Eyes, is really good, but the others are also interesting!!!

Harry Brogdak’s Son And The Big Toilet Snake by Fuchsgeist: A fanfic about if harry was adopted by a goblin when he was a kid, and this is the WIP of the 2nd book. It’s pretty okay, but eh, not the best fic i’ve read.

A Test In Patience by Talking4The1andonly: A time travel fix it for The Magnus Archives, where Jon gets sent back in time as a kid and tries to fix everything after the finale of TMA.

Reading Percy Jackson: Book 5 - The Last Olympian by Lorixjake: This is the only person I’ve seen able to complete the entire PJO series of reading the books!!! They’re currently on The Lost Hero. Characters do die, but they’re reading about the characters dying too, so it’s really sad :(

I’d include the Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings or No Archive Warnings Apply but I feel like at that point it would be redundant.

Because I think people can notice this clear point: They are tagged as warnings, mostly of past experiences from the characters, or because they’re things that consistently happen or are referenced to in the universe the author is writing in, not as the total plotline or for sexual gratification.

These are used as trigger warnings and are not created to be read for the sake of anyone wanting to actually view rape, underage porn, or similar things. People took the fact that I read something with a proper trigger warning to mean that I in any way endorse or enjoy those topics, when in reality out of my ~5K fanfiction bookmarks a large amount of those contain dark content. Trigger warnings are so people can assess the content to see if they can experience it in a safe way, and as I’m not triggered severely by topics like murder, violence, or even rape and can read these works without major issues revolving around my mental health, and even mark them so later if I wanted I could read them again.

I don’t intend to continue making posts about this, primarily because with more different posts to see comments on I get more and more distressed and overwhelmed. In their comments people have acted as if they know me at all, when I’ve done my best to stay as anonymous as I can, because I don’t know you and you aren’t my friend. I’ve likely never spoken to you and owe you nothing.

I also likely won’t write any character based fanfictions anytime soon, because the thought of anyone looking at my characters in a sexual light makes me feel physically sick.

Ugh yes I had this Stucky fic where Steve was a tiny asthmatic dude just living his life and Bucky was the strong one armed contractor that was fixing his deck and there was super weird sexual tension and it was badly written. I have since deleted it from ao3, my fic doc, and my memory. It lives on within the depths of the mind of my bestie/beta reader/editor/confidant/number one supporter @thelazyhero-ttums who read it and was the one who made me realize how terrible it was. It was a rude awakening but im glad I had it bc it made me the writer I am today lmao

24. What fic do you desperately need to rewrite or edit? Hshsjajs RIGHT AND RECONCILIATION!!! Right and Reconciliation are the first two newsies fics I ever wrote. The plot is solid and could be great if I just rewrote it... My aforementioned bestie is the leader (and sole member) of the Rewrite Right and Reconciliation crusade but tbh I don't think ill ever rewrite them unless theres a college assignment thats like Rewrite Something You Wrote In Middle School Even Though You Hate It

Okay so by technical definition a drabble is 100 words or less, but I consider everything under like 750 to be a drabble, so by those rules yes I write drabbles. I actually have a series of Assorted Newsies Drabbles on my ao3, and I mostly write them about fluffy stuff, a lot of soft cuddly morning fics, little projections of things I'm feeling if ive had a particularly bad day/strong emotion stuff like that

I was going to write some more of Cafe Jupiter tonight but this ask completely derailed me.

I'm gonna do just my writing ships because I don't want to get flamed or attacked for criticizing major canon pairings. I do have feelings and thoughts about those.

1. Jeyna - this one is too easy because they've been my muse for years. I just love their whole story. I'm a sucker for tragic canon stories and Jeyna is a tragedy especially from Reyna's perspective. The girl just opened up to someone after so long and then he's taken away from her. She has to be strong for her city at such a young age and then fate messes her again and forces her to watch someone she deeply care about barely acknowledge her. I've been influenced by fanfic!Jason who is either more observant or aware of his actions. I've never read canon!Jason. Their story just has elements that are so easy to grab, twist into an AU and then see what my imagination produces. I love them to bits.

2. Malcolm/Rachel - This probably should be Liper but I love these two individually and together. They're also my own creation from reading a random prompt. I have so much freedom with Malcolm because he doesn't have the canon shackles. He's such a sweetheart and loves everyone but flawed because he unconsciously deprives himself of what he wants. Rachel is just full of life and love and is fearless. I believe the two of them would respect each other and their passion and balance each other with their different personality and bring the best out. Rachel dragging Malcolm out of his shell. Malcolm slowing Rachel down to appreciate things.

3. Liper - Oh man. I have to confess I started shipping them because of Jeyna. Liper just fits neatly beside them. But as I grew as a writer and wrote more Liper, the pairing grew on me as well. Piper and Leo are dynamic characters on their own. They're witty, sarcastic and loves having fun. Leo's dialogue just rolls off my fingertips. Together, they're wonderful. I know they can be loud, crazy and dynamic but I like explore their softer side. They have an inherit trust and love as friends that's just precious. It's those quiet moments that I love writing. Because they know each other so well, they won't pry. They just allow each other to open up gradually.  

4. Malceyna - I AM SO SORRY FOR THIS SHIP THAT I CREATED AND KIND OF ABANDONED AND CONVERTED INTO A BROTP. Malcolm was just a name of a male demigod I needed to either make Jason jealous and let Reyna talk at that wasn't part of the core characters. Who knew he would grow out of hand and get his own ship. I sure as hell didn't. Reyna deserves someone to be smitten over her and boy is Malcolm. It's just at times this pairing feels unbalanced. Like he loves her so much but Reyna is always pinning for Jason. I don't think I ever fully written Reyna in love with Malcolm. My poor boy!!

5. Drew/Connor - this is a pairing I haven't explored fully yet but I really really really want to. Layers of Drew is an ambitious fic. I knew that when I first started it. But Drew deserves to be a complex character because it makes her so much more interesting. Connor wasn't on my radar much. Again, just another name of a camper I recognized. But I wanted Drew to fall for a nice boy especially when he's not her typical type. I haven't written them together yet but my mind is just spinning with ideas.

6. Freyna (Frank/Reyna) - THIS HAPPENED BY ACCIDENT TOO!! I blame @piper-mc-meme for this. Though, she has evidence I caused her to ship this. They're my BrOTP for the longest time especially in my GoT AU. Frank is such a soft kind boy who has to step up and be something he's not inherently. And Reyna would mentor him and be awed by his growth. I have a canon fic in the works about them working together as praetor, learning each other quirks and supporting each other. Sadly, this ship is just all in my head right now.

7. Leyna - Cafe Jupiter is kind of forcing me to explore this pairing. Which means I'm forcing myself??? Ugh my head. It's just my favorite thing to have Reyna sass Leo in either Spanish or English. I feel like Leo would just melt because a hot girl is sassing me. I just can't feel like Reyna would love Leo more than a friend. Like she wouldn't be physically attracted to him.

8. Jaisper - Another ship all my fics kind of forces me to write. The history of Piper and Jason is unavoidable and I want to acknowledge it in my fics. To me, Piper represents escape for Jason. She's the choice to run away from his responsibilities and past. I just write my Jason way to honorable to take that choice in most cases. To Piper, Jason is her ideal story book hero and she kind of puts him on a pedestal. They make up a pretty picture of a perfect couple and I want that to strain on them. Funny enough, I haven't properly broke them up in any fic yet. Oh man, that's gonna be a roller coaster to write because they do care deeply for each other.

Now seriously, thank you so much for this ask because I get to actually think about each pairing I’ve created and kind of acknowledge why I love them or shipped them in the first place. It’s a great exercise that challenges you to think not only about the characters but how they fit together with their counterpart. Oh man, I’m drained now. Sorry Cafe Jupiter draft, I’ll look at you another time.

i also have a deep and terrible love for emotional reunion scenes of any sort. within the bounds of canon logic? please. time travel? sure. ghosts? sure. reincarnation? sure. someone haunting a dog? fuck it, why not. Let Them Hug. by any means necessary.

R: Which writers (fanfic or otherwise) do you consider the biggest influence on you and your writing?

@/fialleril of Double Agent Vader fame was the first example i saw of really complex worldbuilding in fic, especially when it comes to folklore and mythology. the detail put into that series is fucking astonishing, as is the way that the myths intertwine with the plot, as is the figurative language, as is the everything else.

there are a fair few others from when i was first picking up fic that i would like to name, but they all seem to have changed usernames and/or deleted entirely :/

in terms of original authors, i'm going to reluctantly admit to a combination of a few really disconnected names.

The first is Homer?? i guess??? the Odyssey has always been one of my absolute favorites, but the epithets and descriptions (especially in the Fitzgerald translation) have been a huge huge huge influence on me. also the copious number of emotional reunion scenes. also the mythology, of course. i tried to write a mianite fix-it based on the Odyssey, actually, because the Odyssey slaps, actually,

The Secret Garden was also a childhood favorite, so i have to throw Francis Hodgson Burnett into the ring as well. the descriptions are genuinely spectacular. i can still recite certain parts from memory bc the imagery was That Fucking Good. the book has its issues, like most books its age, but it shaped a huge portion of my writing style.

Rick Riordan (PJO, specifically), Kathryn Lasky (Guardians of Ga'hoole), and Christopher Paolini (Inheritance Cycle) are the others that really spring to mind. they all had fantastic worldbuilding, as well as either stellar characterization or a mastery of tone. i haven't read any of their stuff in years, but i adored it as a kid.

V: Are there certain comments you’ve received on your stories that have stuck with you?

Your book looks fun, but do you worry sometimes that it looks like a YA paranormal romance, which might be outdated? Like maybe I just haven't read enough about it yet, I'm sorry if this comes across as mean, I'm genuinely curious. Thanks for all the fic your write!

Okay so my goal when writing Not So Shore was to take all the tropes I loved from the done-to-death ‘mortals meet’ genre of fanfic (the fun of the reader having information the point of view character doesn’t, dropping subtle references to the canon characters’ powers and experiences, having everyone be in awe of how cool the canon characters are) and write them without any of the horrible negative tropes that always seem to feature in those fics (over the top jealousy, slut shaming, unnecessary violence, no subtlety anywhere to be seen). I had so much fun writing it, and the response from all of you suggests you had fun reading it, too.

And I’m basically trying to do a very similar thing with my novel. I grew up riding the wave of popular Paranormal YA. I was there for the publication of Twilight and the thousands of series inspired by it. I’ve read most of them, because as a child I adored the stories of people like me visiting magical lands (Alice in Wonderland, HP, PJO, Narnia, LotR [in which the people like me are the hobbits lol], etc.) so it seemed a natural extension that as I entered my teen years I would follow this genre to its teenage equivalent.

It was supposed to be like the fantasy I loved reading, but darker and more mature, with slightly more graphic violence and more adult risks and consequences. But in its hormone ridden angst, Paranormal YA/Urban Fantasy lost a lot of the things that made me fall in love with fantasy in the first place.

Gone was the focus on proving yourself worthy by doing good deeds and helping others; Instead you had to be snarky and “not like other girls” and worry more about your love interest than the fate of the world.

Instead of quests completed by fire-forged friends, the only relationships developed (and I use that word loosely, in some cases) over the course of the books were the romantic ones. Friends were always pushed aside, no one ever understood the protagonist, but the protagonist never tried to get anyone to understand, because they were dark and moody and needed to do things on their own -

Except, oh, no, they can’t do it on their own, because they’re a girl, and so they’re just going to sort of dither about before their big, strong male love interest comes along to save the day with physical violence. The protagonists rarely had the power, even when they were ‘the chosen one’ or when they should have had the opportunity to grow over the course of the novel. Or if they did have power, it was often so poorly developed that it just read like a massive deus-ex-machina invented purely for the finale.

Their male love interests were rude to the point of abusive, had no sense of appropriate personal boundaries, and treated the protagonists as idiots who had to be talked down to at every opportunity, rather than people who were discovering entirely new worlds and were entitled to ask some questions.

Protagonists no longer had strong morals; instead they flipped back and forth between choices (often between two love interests, hurting both in the process) and were reactive to circumstances changing around them, rather than forces for change.

Dialogue was no longer inspiring, something to repeat to myself on dark days, to remind myself that there was always some good worth fighting for. Instead, everything was one of two extremes: It had to be sassy and referential, or it had to be so pretentious and faux-philosophical that no teenager alive would ever dare utter it for fear of eternal ridicule.

(This is not so say, of course, that the fantasy books I had enjoyed as a child did not have their own faults. They were overwhelmingly cast with straight, white men, or straight, white women who weren’t anywhere near as well developed. Any other diversity was hard to find, and women as romantic interests were often treated as props or rewards. Trouble was, these problematic aspects carried over into Paranormal YA/Urban Fantasy without bringing most of the good stuff with them.)

Obviously not every single Paranormal YA/Urban Fantasy was as disastrous as I am describing them here. But enough were for it to become a well known fact among the industry and readers that Paranormal YA was formulaic to the point where if you had read one you’d read fifty. I still loved the concept of the genre, obviously, or I wouldn’t have kept reading it, but the execution was letting me down.

So in my novel I’m taking the things I love about it - the mystery, the magic, the overlap of our world with something so entirely new and different hovering just beyond our perception, characters and things from that new world crossing over to ours, the dark overtones and the threat of real danger and violence - and I’m adding all the things I adored from fantasy back in, and putting the emphasis on female friendship.

YA has taken great leaps forward in terms of representation of marginalised groups, less problematic love interests, and more unique plotting, all of which is so amazing and absolutely fantastic to read. But I still find close, supportive, realistic female friendships lacking, and as most of the books I read are written by women I always find this preference to have their female protagonists always hanging out with guys puzzling. So although there is a romance between my female protagonist and a male character, it’s tertiary, behind the plot and the core group of female friends that drive it forward. I’ve tried to write each of the girls as unique individuals rather than stereotypes, as characters with their own goals and personalities and no tokenism, and I hope that their friendship reads as strongly and sincerely to you as it does to me.

I’m hoping that this distinction, the focus on characters and the relatively less-popular type of mythology I’ve decided to write about will be enough to convince a publisher to give me a chance. (The Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater is the series that comes closest to what I’m trying to achieve in terms of tone and themes with my novel, which also gives me hope that there’s still a market for it.
