The Vancouver Aquarium
Recently, I had the privilege and honour of visiting the Vancouver Aquarium!! It was very nice, and I'd like to give my honest review :)
Jellyfish Exhibit Rating:
Diversity - 7/10 - Only limited to Rhizostomeae and Semaeostomeae jellyfish (no combs or hydrozoans), but they get extra points for showing the rare "Stalked Jellyfish"
Presentation - 7/10 - Most exhibits had more jellyfish per square meter than normal so it was very pretty. One seemed kind of sad though.
Learning - 10/10 - Accurate information paired with engaging visuals, along with dedicated and knowledgeable staff. Here's a shout out to Noah I love him so much 🙏🙏
can we also appreciate how at every opportunity they get, the staff will thank the indigenous nations by name (there are multiple) that have owned and taken care of the land that the aquarium resides in? I respected that a lot haha.
So to start... I believe we entered at an auspicious day (even though it wasn't the weekend, when the jelly touchpool tanks are open)
That's right!! A local school was visiting the aquarium at the same time we were ^-^!! How exciting is that? I felt so much nostalgia haha... I wish I could've done something like this in elementary school ;w;
OK, so going into the aquarium I was already very excited, and seeing this made me gasp !! :>
(unfortunately, I spooked my mother, so um. Yeah)
Unfortunately they 1) Do not currently show the Phacellophora camtschatica in the aquarium and 2) call it the "Fried Egg Jelly" (actually, it's not too big of a deal but I prefer to call it the "Egg Yolk Jelly" since the Mediterranean Jelly resembles a fried egg.
Hey, did you know that the Association of Zoos and Aquariums recently released a jellyfish care guide? I ended up quoting it when I talked to one of the staff, hehe
Now, most of their exhibits are divided by world region- but the jellyfish (as with most exhibits it seems) are grouped into one... except for the Papua Jellyfish, which is the first tank placed in the Tropical Exhibits.
It's verrrry large (larger than any rhizostomid exhibit I've seen) and there are many, many jellyfish! Unfortunately the strong light and deep blue background made it pretty difficult to get good individual pictures (all of mine came out blurry :<), but they were so cute and small.
The jellies often bumped into the ground, and one was swirling around on the bottom, unable to get back into the flow (perhaps it was in-between the two circular currents?). Anyways something told me that this exhibit wasn't as well-looked after as the other ones :<
I did see a couple of really broken ones (sorry for the bad lighting, but here was a jellyfish that had most of its bell ripped up), and it just broke my heart. Most of the jellyfish were in fine condition, though, so I think it's just the normal ripped bells and appendages that you can find in any jellyfish exhibit.
Curiously enough, however, this exhibit shows information cards for three different jellies when in reality there is only one species (The "Spotted Jellyfish") in the tank. I'll explain my theory why later when I get to them.
JELLYFISH HALL!!! There are many glowing sea nettles hanging from the ceiling, along with two life-sized lion's mane jellyfish!! :). The lion's manes also glow in different colours.
Also, if you notice, there's a very large crowd gathered in front of the sea nettle exhibit- and that's because I was INCREDIBLY, INCREDIBLY lucky to stop by RIGHT when they were doing a live jellyfish feeding. I cannot even begin to articulate how fortunate I was to accidentally stumble upon this.
Anyway, here's the obligatory jelly card haha :)
Here is speaker Noah, a 3rd year in his Marine Conservation degree showing us how amazing jellyfish are. I appreciate him a lot he gave me a lot of good information, which I'll just list down here:
The liquid inside of the measuring cup is in fact Jellyfish Food!
Usually, they are fed Artemis sp. naupili (sea monkeys, as he said it, or brine shrimp), but there were some other goodies added into the mix as well- like squid and herring.
This was all mixed in with a bit of gelatin- as sea nettles prefer to eat their food in bigger chunks.
These sea nettles are not fed with moon jellyfish- though the AZA Jellyfish Handbook does recommend to do that since sea nettles are medusivoric, and require jellyfish in their diet to grow properly. Apparently, the gelatin acts as an adequate substitute ^-^!!
Also Noah knows about the Monterey Bay Aquarium let's give him a round of applause ^-^!!! He said i should go there but. Well. I already did :3.
I could've went into more detail about the Cnidocyte explanation, but I'm probably not the best person to be teaching total beginners and children about jellyfish because I'd be way too technical (I was literally the only person in the crowd who was cheering lmao).
Here's a screenshot of the feeding video I took! (I'll upload the full feeding video if there's popular demand for it haha)
Anyways, after that excitement... it was time to look at the rest of the jellies.
This was the sign in front of the moon jelly exhibit. I just thought it was interesting to see what the aquarium defined as "Jellyfish" (this definition can vary from aquarium to aquarium) Here, we can see that the Vancouver Aquarium considers Comb Jellies, Molluscs, and Salps as jellyfish. (this is more inclusive than my own personal definition- which excludes molluscs haha)
There was a bigger tank (that I did not take a full picture of... stupid Donut) that did include the Mediterranean and Australian Spotted jelly. They actually looked... a lot bigger in person than I thought, haha.
Now, I think the reason why these jellies were not roomed with the Papua jellies was because while they were originally a part of the exhibit, the two jellies actually outgrew the tank became too big to room with the small Papua jellies. These were housed in a tank that was about as big (if not bigger) than the Papua jelly tank- and there were not as many jellies per square meter in here.
Still weird that they kept the information cards about the jellies though... I guess it would've been too unsightly to remove?
Ok, I also forgot to take a full view picture of this exhibit but don't be fooled by the pretty jellyfish. This exhibit was kind of... lacking, imo. I can only really describe it with a diagram of sorts.
This is a circular tank, but I'm guessing there were two opposing currents on either side. All of the sea nettles had migrated to the right current, making that half look too crowded and the other side completely empty. It didn't help that when all of the jellyfish were on the very shaded bottom, the entire tank was dark :(.
// Can we just say that them mentioning one of the Japanese names of the jellyfish is AWESOME? I've only seen this on the japanese wikipedia haha- though there was no mention of "Ninjas," only in military warfare in the Sengoku Period by Sanada Nobushige. Well. I'll correct my statement if it ends up being wrong later.
Quick break to visit my hero, Mackenzie Neale :). I'm a big fan of your work!!
Alright, now to visit the Moon jelly exhibit (it was honestly one of the most densely packed tanks I had ever seen- very impressive :>)
I made an instagram reel going over the sexual dimorphism of moon jellies- maybe I'll post it on here if I feel like it haha :3
^^ They have more infographics like this but this is the only one I took a picture of... awe :<.
OK, so with all of the main jellyfish out of the way... now started the hardest part of my journey: Finding the elusive, rare Staurozan (Stalked) jellyfish. These are so rare, apparently they're difficult for even scientists to get their hands on. I absolutely had to see them for myself.
Unfortunately... I kept running around in circles trying to find it (I had asked a staff member earlier where the exhibit was... but I forgot lol. I ended up having to ask two more people. It's tucked away in an unmarked Polar exhibit btw :>!!
Here was the gift shop I ended up visiting, there was a Japanese Sea nettle with a heart on it- awww
Anyways, I promise, after like 20 minutes of searching... I finally found the polar exhibits!!
They had (one) hydrozoan jellyfish here... and it was a picture. An unnamed picture. For the record, it's called the "Battering Ram Jellyfish," according to Lisa-Ann Gershwin. It's a part of the Narcomedusae group, which have similarly positioned tentacles.
And now, in another fit of I did a dumb... I didn't take a picture of the two wall tanks... because the Vancouver Aquarium HAD to be confusing with them for some reason :/
this is the tank on the left! It has the Stalked Jellyfish card......... but the tank itself has NO Stalked Jellyfish...? I had NO idea why and it's driving me mad.
This tank was to the RIGHT of the tank with the card (ie. A TOTALLY SEPARATE TANK), BUT THESE ONES WERE THE ONES THAT HAD STAUROZOA?????... I have no words.
I actually ended up noticing them first because of their weird "firework-like" structure was different from the other corals, but I didn't know if they were actually staurozoa until I saw the card. Anyways, very confusing, but definitely the most magical and rewarding experience you could have in the aquarium. I'll leave out the directions to find this place so if anyone decides to visit the aquarium, they can just look for the staurozoa themselves :>
... and finally, that ends our jelly tour of the Vancouver Aquarium. Before you head home, though, why not pick up a cute little eco-friendly jelly plush on your way out?
She's a beauty, that's for sure!

General Life Tips I’ve learned in my 27 years of life
• colleges and libraries have bathrooms you can use for free without having to buy anything
• instead of dating apps try volunteering. you meet a lot of people, and it also looks great on your resume
• carry a portable phone charger in your purse at all times - this is especially important when you travel!!!
• when you travel bring your student id; you get a lot of discounts at museums
• bring a photocopy of your birth certificate if you travel out of state or country; if you lose your passport, there’s a good chance they’ll ask for it when you need to get a temporary one to get back home
• buying stationary from the thrift stores is way cheaper than buying them new - youre also saving the planet
• even if you feel you don’t have the experience; apply for the job anyway
• get vaginal wipes for when you're on your period
• make sure there’s toilet paper in the stall before you use the toilet
• you’re at risk for an eye infection if you don’t replace your mascara after 3 months (6 after buying it - even if it’s unopened)
• buy christmas presents in the summer - the retail and delivery workers will thank you, it’s also less stress on you
• vitamin b12 helps with anxiety
• after you use make up remover wipes, go over your face with a cotton pad saturated with micellar water. you’d be surprised how much make up was still on your face
• a lot of people don’t know that used art supply stores are a thing
• if you go to a walk-in clinic bring a book - you’ll be waiting for a minimum of 20 minutes
• command strips don’t leave holes in the wall and are renter friendly

Students will use class time this week to attend the museum.
I highly recommend the MoCA exhibit in North Miami. The exhibit is very compatible with all three classes.
3D will choose to attend MoCA instead of the Lowe.
Unless otherwise stated, you need to attend the spaces in person.
Note: I gave verbal permission to a few students to attend a virtual museum.
Only those students that spoke to me will be allowed to do it virtually.
Museum Visit
Students will be visiting either of the following museums :
MOCA in North Miami or
LOWE Museum at UM
When you visit the space make sure to bring with you the following:
1) sketchbook
2) pencil
3) Student ID
You will begin your museum experience by taking a selfie of yourself from inside the venue as you begin your activity and posting it on your threads handle.
**( For those students doing the virtual format, you will take photo of yourself next to the laptop or computer.)
During your museum visit try to look for several paintings or artworks that catch your interest.
Take notes regarding what it is that you enjoy about the artwork.
Is it the composition and if so describe it in a few words ?
The way the materials are used, mention which materials?
Is it the way the elements or principles are organized, color, texture, the way it is balanced, how emphasis is created?
Are you connected to the message of the work, content, explain your answer ?
Finally, find a work or works you like and do several sketches .
Make notes regarding the composition, horizon, proportion , color scheme. Write the name of the artist and name of the artwork in your notes.
Figure Drawing :
Analyze paintings with figures . Create a drawing in your sketchbook using various figures.
Drawing:
Look at how art creates visual narratives, stories. Create a drawing inspired by this visit.

If you decide the virtual component, you will only get credit for attendance in class for today or tomorrow.
If a student wants the extra credit then you need to do this assignment in person.

Understanding OSAP Notary Requirements for Ontario Students
The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) is a financial aid program that provides grants and loans to help students cover the cost of post-secondary education. For many students, this financial assistance is essential for managing the rising costs of tuition, books, and living expenses. However, certain circumstances may require applicants to provide notarized documents as part of their OSAP application process. Understanding the role of an OSAP notary can help students navigate this requirement efficiently.
What is OSAP?
OSAP is designed to assist Ontario residents with financial aid based on factors such as their financial situation, course load, and academic institution. OSAP offers a combination of grants, which do not need to be repaid, and loans, which must be paid back after graduation. Both full-time and part-time students are eligible to apply, and the amount of aid received is determined through a detailed assessment of the applicant’s financial needs.
OSAP not only helps students with tuition, but it can also provide funding for living expenses, books, transportation, and child care in some cases. The financial aid program is an important resource for those who may struggle to cover the high costs of education on their own.
Why Would You Need a Notary for OSAP?
Notarization is a formal process where a legal professional, such as a notary public, authenticates or witnesses a document to verify its legitimacy. Notarized documents are often required when an official or legal confirmation is necessary, particularly when personal claims or statements need verification.
When applying for OSAP, students may be required to submit notarized documents for a variety of reasons:
Parental or Spousal Income Verification: If there are discrepancies or specific conditions surrounding parental or spousal income, students may need to submit notarized affidavits to clarify their situation.
Proof of Residency: In cases where the student’s residency status is in question, a notarized document proving Ontario residency may be necessary.
Special Circumstances: Students who have special family circumstances, such as estrangement from their parents, may be required to provide notarized statements or affidavits to explain their situation.
Sworn Statements: If certain information in the application needs to be certified as truthful and accurate, the student may need to provide a notarized statement affirming that the information is correct.
How to Get Documents Notarized
Obtaining notarized documents is a simple process, but it does require attention to detail to ensure the documents meet OSAP’s requirements. Here’s a step-by-step guide for students who need to get their documents notarized:
Find a Notary Public: Notaries public are available throughout Ontario. Many law offices offer notary services, and some public libraries, courthouses, and government offices may also have notaries available. Some notaries may charge a fee for their services, while others may offer discounted rates for students.
Prepare Your Documents: Before visiting a notary, ensure that all documents that need notarization are complete and ready for review. If an affidavit is required, make sure you have all relevant information and that the document is formatted correctly.
Bring Valid ID: The notary will require a valid form of identification, such as a driver’s license or passport, to confirm your identity.
Get the Documents Notarized: The Virtual notary will review your documents and witness your signature or provide certification, depending on what is needed. This process is usually quick, but it’s essential to follow the notary’s instructions to ensure the documents are legally valid.
Submit the Notarized Documents to OSAP: After the notarization is complete, make sure you submit the documents to OSAP by the required deadline. It’s a good idea to keep copies of the notarized documents for your records.

Choose Budget-Friendly Accommodation: Instead of expensive hotels, consider staying in hostels, guesthouses, or Airbnb rentals. You can even try house sitting or couchsurfing for a unique and cheap place to stay.
Visit Free Attractions: There are plenty of amazing things to see in the UK that won't cost you anything. You can explore museums, landmarks, and parks for free. Look for free walking tours or explore on your own to discover hidden gems without spending any money. Are you ready to start a beautiful journey with your loved ones? This partnership will help you and your loved ones go on a wonderful journey.
Use Public Transportation: Getting around the UK doesn't have to be expensive. Take buses, trams, or trains instead of taxis or rental cars. Buying a travel pass or a railcard can also save you money on transportation.
Pack Wisely: Pack light and bring versatile clothes that you can mix and match. This way, you won't need to bring as much luggage, saving you money on baggage fees. Don't forget to bring reusable water bottles and snacks to avoid expensive purchases while you're out exploring.
Eat Like a Local: Instead of eating at fancy restaurants for every meal, try local street food markets, bakeries, and affordable eateries. You can also save money by buying groceries from budget supermarkets or having a picnic in a park.
Look for Discounts: Before you go, search for discounts and deals on attractions, restaurants, and shops. Many places offer discounts for students, seniors, or if you book in advance. Use websites, apps, and travel forums to find the best deals and save even more money.
Join Free Walking Tours: In the UK, many cities offer free walking tours led by friendly guides. These tours show you cool places and hidden spots, teaching you interesting things about the local culture and history. Best part? They don't cost anything! If you had fun, you can give the guide a tip at the end, but only if you want to.
Check Out Local Markets: Visit lively local markets to save money on food and souvenirs. You can find all sorts of stuff there, like fresh fruits, yummy homemade snacks, and unique gifts, all at good prices. Try out local foods and see if you can haggle with the sellers for even better deals.
Use Student Discounts: If you're a student, bring your student ID card along. Lots of places in the UK, like attractions, restaurants, and transportation, offer discounts to students. Just ask about student discounts wherever you go to save more money during your trip.
Have Picnics: Instead of eating out all the time, plan picnics in pretty spots around the UK. Buy fresh food from local markets or shops and enjoy eating outside in parks, gardens, or by the sea. It's not only cheaper but also lets you enjoy the lovely views while you eat.
Try Free Outdoor Fun: The UK has amazing outdoor places you can explore for free. You can go hiking in national parks, walk along beautiful coastal paths, or ride bikes through scenic countryside. These activities let you enjoy nature without spending any money, keeping your trip budget-friendly.

Rijksmuseum Student Discounts: A Budget-Friendly Art Experience
As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, I don't have specific information about current discounts or offers for students at the Rijksmuseum tours in Amsterdam. However, I can provide you with some general tips on how to find student discounts for museums and cultural attractions:
Official Website: Check the official website of the Rijksmuseum tickets for any information on student discounts, special offers, or promotions. Museums often update their websites with the latest information on ticket prices and discounts.
Student ID: Many museums offer discounted rates for students, but you typically need to show a valid student ID card at the ticket counter. Make sure to bring your student ID with you when planning to visit the Rijksmuseum.
Third-Party Websites: Check online ticket platforms or travel websites that might offer discounted tickets for the Rijksmuseum. Sometimes, these platforms run special promotions or bundle deals that can save you money.
Social Media and Newsletters: Follow the Rijksmuseum on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Museums often announce special discounts or events through these channels. Subscribing to their newsletters may also provide you with exclusive offers.
Student Organizations: Some universities or student organizations may have partnerships with local attractions, including museums. Check with your university's student affairs office or relevant organizations to see if they offer any discounted rates or group deals for students.
City Passes: Amsterdam may have city passes that include admission to multiple attractions, including the Rijksmuseum. These passes might offer better value for money compared to individual tickets.
Off-Peak Times: Some museums offer discounted rates during off-peak hours or days. Check if the Rijksmuseum has any such promotions, as visiting during less busy times might also save you money.
Remember to verify all information with the official sources or directly contact the Rijksmuseum for the most accurate and up-to-date details. Additionally, policies and offers may change, so it's a good idea to check for the latest information before planning your visit.

How To Save Money As A Student Without Working: Know The Truth
Being a full-time student is an exciting journey filled with opportunities for growth, learning, and self-discovery. However, it's no secret that navigating student life can also come with its fair share of financial challenges. From tuition fees to daily expenses, managing a budget becomes an essential skill for success. Fortunately, there are practical strategies and smart choices that can help you stretch your resources and make the most of your student experience without breaking the bank. In this blog, we'll explore how to save money as a student without working, including budgeting tips and strategies to cut costs on food, housing, and textbooks, ensuring that your academic journey is both fulfilling and financially sustainable.
How To Save Money As A Full-Time Student
Being a full-time student is an exciting journey filled with learning, growth, and new experiences. However, it's no secret that student life can also come with financial challenges. From tuition fees to textbooks and everyday expenses, keeping track of your money can be hard.. But fear not! With a few practical tips and a bit of discipline, you can navigate your way through student life without draining your bank account.
Here's a guide on how to save money as a full-time student:
1. Create a Realistic Budget:
Making a budget is the first step to handling your money well. List all your sources of income, whether it's from a part-time job, financial aid, or support from family. Then, outline your monthly expenses, including rent, groceries, transportation, and entertainment. Having a clear picture of your financial inflows and outflows will help you make informed decisions and prioritize your spending.
2. Hunt for Student Discounts:
Many shops offer discounts to students, so make sure you always have your student ID with you and ask if a discount is available before you buy something. At places like restaurants, movie theaters, clothing stores, and tech shops, these deals can save you a lot of money.
3. Buy Used or Rent Textbooks:
Textbooks can cost a lot, but there are ways to save money on them. Instead of buying new texts, you might want to consider buying used ones or renting them. You can also look into online sites that sell digital versions of textbooks for a lot less money.
4. Cook at Home:
Eating out frequently can quickly drain your funds. Try cooking your meals at home and bringing lunch to campus. Not only is this more budget-friendly, but it's also a healthier option. You can also meal prep on weekends to save time and money during the busy weekdays.
5. Explore Free or Low-Cost Entertainment:
Entertainment doesn't have to be expensive. Look for free or low-cost activities on campus or in your community, such as movie nights, art exhibitions, or local festivals. Consider joining clubs or student organizations that host events and outings at a minimal cost.
6. Utilize Public Transportation:
If possible, use public transportation instead of owning a car. Public transit passes are often more affordable for students, and you'll save on fuel, parking, and maintenance costs. Biking or walking can also be eco-friendly and cost-effective ways to get around.
7. Share Housing Costs:
If you're living off-campus, consider sharing a rental with roommates to split housing costs. Not only will this help you save on rent, but you'll also share utility expenses, making it a win-win situation.
8. Limit Credit Card Use:
Credit cards can be tempting, but if you don't use them well, you could end up in debt. If you have a credit card, use it wisely and pay off the full amount every month to avoid paying interest.
9. Look for Part-Time Work:
If you can find a part-time job that works with your plan, you can make extra money to pay your bills. Many schools also have work-study programs that let you make money and learn more about your field of study at the same time.
10. Embrace Minimalism:
Take a minimalist approach to your spending by focusing on what you truly need rather than giving in to impulse purchases. Before buying something, ask yourself if it's a necessity or a want.
Remember, saving money as a full-time student requires a combination of thoughtful planning, smart decision-making, and a willingness to make small changes. By implementing these strategies, you'll be well on your way to achieving financial stability and enjoying your student journey to the fullest!
Smart Strategies To Save Money On Textbooks As A Student
Textbooks are a crucial part of your academic journey, but they can also be a significant financial burden. The cost of textbooks has been on the rise, causing many students to seek ways to cut expenses without compromising their education. Fortunately, there are several savvy strategies you can employ to save money on textbooks while still excelling in your studies.
Let's dive into some effective tips:
1. Explore Digital and E-book Options:
In today's digital age, many textbooks are available in electronic formats or e-books. These versions are often more affordable than their printed counterparts and can be accessed on your tablet, laptop, or e-reader. Additionally, e-books are portable and environmentally friendly, making them a convenient and budget-conscious choice.
2. Utilize Your Campus Library:
Your campus library is a goldmine for resourceful students. Check if your required textbooks are available for short-term loans or reference copies. While you might not be able to keep the book for the entire semester, you can use it to study, take notes, and complete assignments without the upfront cost.
3. Buy Used Textbooks:
Consider purchasing used textbooks from your campus bookstore, online marketplaces, or local bookstores. Used books are often significantly cheaper than new ones, and many come in great condition. Just be sure to check the edition and ensure that it aligns with your course requirements.
4. Rent Textbooks:
Renting textbooks is a practical option that can save you a substantial amount of money. Numerous online platforms and campus bookstores offer textbook rental services. You can rent the book for the duration of the semester, returning it once your course is complete.
5. Share with Classmates:
Connect with your classmates and see if you can share textbooks. If you have friends in the same class, consider splitting the cost of the textbook and taking turns using it. This way, you both save money while having access to the material when you need it.
6. Look for International or Earlier Editions:
Sometimes, international editions or earlier editions of textbooks are available at a lower cost. While the page numbers or content might vary slightly, the core concepts are often the same. Be sure to confirm with your professor if using an alternative edition is acceptable.
7. Online Resources and Open Educational Resources (OER):
Explore online resources and open educational resources (OER) related to your course. Some educators and institutions provide free or low-cost digital materials, including textbooks, lecture notes, and study guides. These resources can be helpful additions to your learning without breaking your budget.
8. Join Student Forums and Groups:
Participate in student forums, social media groups, or online communities specific to your field of study. Students often share tips on where to find affordable textbooks or may even be selling their used copies at a discounted rate.
9. Negotiate with Professors:
Reach out to your professors before the semester begins and ask if an older edition of the textbook is acceptable for the course. Additionally, inquire whether the required readings will be available through handouts or online platforms, reducing your need for a physical textbook.
10. Plan Ahead and Buy Early:
Avoid last-minute panic by planning your textbook purchases in advance. Waiting until the first week of classes may limit your options and force you to buy at full price. Secure your textbooks early to take advantage of better deals and save money.
By implementing these practical approaches, you can significantly cut down your textbook expenses while still obtaining the knowledge you need to succeed academically. Remember, being resourceful and proactive can make a substantial difference in your overall student budget.

Availed the Amami Beach Resort ₱6590 (4pax) all inclusive group promo. That’s 3D2N accommodation will full meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) package. They also have the couple package for only ₱3990. I first availed of this promotional voucher when pandemic started and they needed to make sure that the staff are still being paid despite the pandemic affecting all businesses. The resort also does feeding program for children in and around the area.
Amami Beach Resort is located in Talipanan, Puerto Galera. About 20-25mins tryke ride from Balatero Port, usual charge of ₱200-250 or ₱50/pax.
We took the RORO as we weren’t in a rush coming from Batangas Pier. JAM Liner charges ₱268 while ALPS ₱260. Montenegro RORO leaves the Batangas Pier at 8AM for 425 regular fare and travel is around 1hr 40mins. You have to be early as the queue is usually pretty long just about daily. Besides the waiting area in Batangas is actually nice, looking more like an airport departure area. You have to pay ₱30 terminal fee and environmental fee of ₱120/head in Puerto Galera upon arrival. Please do make sure to get your students bring their school ID to avail of discounts.
Getting back to Batangas Pier from Balatero Port we did an advance booking via Kuya Agoy (+63997 074-3378). We paid an extra ₱50/head for the advance booking and he even delivered our tickets at the resort! It did save us time queuing and less hassle as we headed straight to the port entrance to pay for the terminal fee of ₱10/head then waiting area. Departure was 2PM from Balatero Port to Batangas.
The resort has beach front accommodation as well as Greenhouses located by the main road, roughly 3mins walk to the beach and mess hall.
Staff are amazing, food is fairly priced, everything is delicious (thanks mainly to Ate Briza 👏) and big portions too! Shoutout to Jhem and Armi!
Everything was great, staff food and location but the place needs quite a few fixes.
Accommodation : we had an issue with the faulty door and door knob.
Bathroom : clean and all but drain is a bit clogged as it takes awhile for the water to go down.
Service Price List : not updated at all.
I did speak to one of the managers (after contacting him via texts messages and call to which he dropped my call and never responded to my text messages) later in the afternoon. He was not apologetic for not getting back to me and didn’t really do much about my concern. A real let down after having dealt with the owner Fabio before. The staff did their best to be able to assist us but there is only so much they can do. Staff gets 15/10 stars ⭐️ while management gets zero ⭐️. È molto deludente. In all fairness to the manager Filippo, he is young and seemed patient listening to me, atleast.
From the resort, we went to White Beach which is roughly the main attraction in Galera with water sports, souvenirs shops, food shops, for ₱150 tryke ride. Roughly 7-10mins tryke ride.

Berlin Week 2: Classes and Natural Beauty
By Ilyana Smith, Aerospace Engineering Major
This week in Berlin has been a real whirlwind mixture of class work and enjoyment of the natural beauty of the city. We started our lab classes on Tuesday and continued our German language classes. I also got to explore the Tiergarten park and its flower gardens, as well as visit the Berlin Zoo!
German Class
This week, we continued our German classes. I had a test on German grammar, and we started work on a project about the history of Berlin. We're making a video that will explain where some places in Berlin got their names, so I've spent some time the last couple of days learning about Ernst Reuter, the first mayor of West Berlin, who is famous for his handling of the Soviet blockade of Berlin from 1948-49. Ernst-Reuter-Platz, a traffic circle near where we have our German class, is named for him.
Ernst-Reuter-Platz traffic circle
Lab Class
This week, we started our lab classes. I'm in the 3D printing/polymers group, so we had a tour of the lab and a couple of lectures giving an overview of polymers in general and some ways in which objects can be manufactured from plastics. Next week, we'll start doing more hands-on labs, so I'm looking forward to being able to tell you about those!
Tiergarten Park
Tiergarten translates as "Animal Garden," and it was named that because the old Prussian emperors used it as a pleasure hunting ground. Eventually, it was transformed into a public park, which is what it remains today. There is a lot of green space, flower gardens, and areas to sit and relax, and it's a really nice place to get away from the noise of the city.
The beautiful greenspaces of Tiergarten
Berlin Zoo
Finally, we went to the Berlin Zoo this week. It had an impressive diversity of species and was a really fun activity for the day. Like many other places in the city, they also had discounted prices for students, so be sure to bring your student ID card if you visit Berlin!

Thanks for reading! I look forward to sharing more with you soon!

Good Evening here from Melbourne, or anywhere in the Southern Hemisphere and a very good morning to anyone in the United States and if you live in the Northern Hemisphere. How is everyone doing this Friday morning or whenever you're reading this? As you know from the title I am currently on fall break and today is techally the last day but for me my break is extended till Wednesday since I don’t have any classes on Monday or Tuesday. So I actually stay in the city of Melbourne for most of the break exploring. So I’m not on campus right now where I usually do the vlog, I’m in a hotel overlooking the beautiful view of the city just soaking up the day. So today vlog will be some adventures I had while on break.
So, I left La Trobe and arrived in the city on Monday, so it was a pretty chill day just for traveling from one location to another even tho its only an hour away lol. On Tuesday it was more of exploring where I went to the Melbourne Museum for the day. FYI bring your student ID anywhere in the city to get a discount off your tickets/free entry, The Museum is super cool which tells the history of Victoria and how languages were developed, some cool water transportations that were developed in the past, but it isn’t just focus on Melbourne stuff they also have exhibits on dinosaurs, an cool garden, etc. In recommendation, you should go to each museum twice since there are a lot to see if you have the time. After the museums I got something to eat and went back to the hotel to rest for a bit before heading out for the night. When you go to Melbourne at Night, it has the most beautiful view, especially over the water if you cross the --- bridge. On Wednesday I went to the National Gallery of Victoria first to go see some art. The NGV has some cool historical paintings and exhibits from the 16th to the 21th century that don't just consider Victoria history but other culture/heritage in the museum too which is really cool. After touring the NGV, I went to an film museum and another art museums. Both are really cool museum in which you get to see how films and tvs shows are created, while the other one is just like the NGV but their art is based on the historical history of Victoria overall. My day wasn't over yet as that night I went to my first ever night market. It happens on Wednesdays and it is seasonal. Their was so much to do at the night market, which makes it so much fun. On Thursday I met up with another international student named Regan to visit Melbourne Aquarium and the Immigrant museum. The Aquarium is enormous, my favorite thing from the aquarium is the jellyfishes which are super cool to look at and there so many different species of them I never knew about. After the aquarium me and Regan went to the Immigrant Museum. The Immigrant Museum is the most interesting museum I've been in where it shows how different countries and Victoria relationship in the past, how women are currently being treated and their background stories, and the reflection that you see between a child and an adult. Today I went to the Melbourne Zoo. I saw a bunch of animals and some of them I had never seen before in real-life , which is really cool. I didn;t get to see the snow-leopard or a wombat but I saw some survivors of them. One of the things I never saw was a platypus, a dingo, koalas, etc. So my break was relaxing and with a bunch of exploring I still need to do. Thank you for reading as alway and I see you next week :).

Whether you’re a budget traveler looking for the best deal or an experienced jet-setter seeking a new adventure, traveling from New York to Los Angeles can be an exciting and cost-effective endeavor. In this blog post, we’ll provide a step-by-step guide on how to make the most of your trip while staying within your budget. From choosing the most affordable flight option to exploring and enjoying your time in LA, our goal is to help you wing it in style! With our tips and tricks, we guarantee that you will have an unforgettable journey from NYC to LA.
Choosing the Cheapest Flights from New York to Los Angeles.
When choosing a flight from New York to Los Angeles, it's important to compare different options in terms of cost and time. Consider factors such as direct versus connecting flights, layovers, flight times, and travel dates. Also research different airlines and their policies on baggage fees, seat selection options, and other amenities that may be included in your fare.Doing Price Comparison of Different Airlines.
Packing Lightly and Strategically.
When traveling from New York to Los Angeles, it is important to maximize your baggage allowance and pack strategically. Many airlines have a weight limit for checked-in luggage, so it’s important to be aware of the rules set by your chosen airline before you start packing. It is also important to prioritize what you will need on your trip in order to avoid bringing unnecessary items that add extra weight and cost. Consider only bringing the necessary items and leaving behind any luxury items that may not be essential for a short trip such as this one.Deciding Between Checked-in and Carry-on Luggage.
When deciding between checked-in luggage or carry-on bags, consider the size of the suitcase, how much weight it can hold, and where you want to store it during your flight (e.g., overhead bin or under the seat). Packing lightly when flying from New York to Los Angeles allows travelers more flexibility when choosing their luggage type; if they prefer having everything with them throughout their entire journey, then they may opt for a carry-on bag instead of checking in larger pieces of luggage at the airport counter. Additionally, opting for smaller bags can save on excess baggage fees that are charged per piece of checked-in luggage exceeding certain sizes or weights specified by certain airlines.
Exploring and Enjoying Your Time in the Destination.
Traveling to Los Angeles on a budget doesn't have to mean sacrificing fun and adventure. Once you've arrived in LA, the next step is to plan out your itinerary for exploring the city. Start by listing out all the attractions and activities that interest you, then begin researching them online for discounts or free admission days. Many museums offer discounted student tickets, while some parks are completely free to explore. Additionally, many cities have tourism websites that list out all the available attractions and events at any given time - these can be invaluable resources when planning an affordable vacation!Seeking Free or Discounted Attractions.
When it comes to sightseeing on a budget, there are plenty of ways to enjoy everything Los Angeles has to offer without breaking the bank. Consider taking advantage of public transportation options like buses and trains instead of renting a car, which can quickly add up in cost over time. Additionally, take advantage of free walking tours offered around key tourist spots - these can provide great insight into local culture and history that you may not find elsewhere! Finally, don't forget about seeking out deals from local vendors such as restaurants or movie theatres; many businesses will offer discounts for visitors who book ahead or present their ID cards upon arrival.
Making the Most of Your Return Flight.
When returning to New York from Los Angeles, it is important to plan ahead and give yourself enough time to get through airport security efficiently. To save time, make sure that all your documents are up-to-date and in order before you leave for the airport. Additionally, familiarize yourself with TSA (Transportation Security Administration) rules and regulations so that you can avoid unnecessary delays or complications during the security check-in process.
It may also be a good idea to enroll in TSA PreCheck which allows you access to expedited security screenings when flying domestically out of most major airports in the US. With this program, travelers will not be required to remove shoes, laptops, liquids, belts or light jackets at designated checkpoints. Enrolling can save valuable time while going through airport security on the way back home.Securing a Comfortable Seat.
Once you have cleared airport security without any issues, it is important to reserve a comfortable seat on your return flight from Los Angeles back to New York City as soon as possible. Many airlines offer pre-reserved seating options at an additional cost which allow travelers flexibility and convenience when choosing their own seats onboard the plane. When reserving your seat online check for special offers such as early bird discounts or bulk discounts available for booking multiple seats at once - these could help reduce your overall travel costs significantly!
If you prefer not having to pay extra money for pre-reserved seating then try selecting an aisle seat near an exit row where there is more legroom available - this will make the journey much more comfortable! Additionally, if there are any empty seats on board after take off then don’t hesitate asking one of the flight attendants if it’s possible switching into another seat with more space - they may even upgrade you free of charge depending on availability!
Conclusion
Traveling from New York to Los Angeles doesn't have to be expensive. By following the steps outlined in this blog post, you can find the most affordable flight and enjoy a memorable trip without breaking the bank. From analyzing different flight options and doing price comparisons of different airlines to packing lightly and strategically, exploring your destination on a budget-friendly itinerary, and making the most of your return flight, you can make sure that every moment of your journey is as enjoyable as possible. So go ahead and start planning for an unforgettable experience today!
