I honestly have to resist the urge to make more jokes because of how Scara and puppet reader are related. It’s just too easy to comment on how Scara really is keeping things in the family or how you can tell they come from rather aristocratic backgrounds because of how cousin marriages are so prevalent in those circles (really fascinating to read about actually! There’s a bunch of cultural and time era related reasons for it. Actually, the world building in Genshin would be so interesting if we knew more about stuff like this. My anthropology loving brain would go haywire. Like it’s unfortunate for Scara but I can imagine before the wedding (and this wedding pic) when he has the first drawing of them, someone might ask who it is and the first time Scara says his family, he learns real quick to say puppet reader is *his* because that person asked if puppet reader was single and willing to mingle. That person got the chance to mingle with Scara’s rage. How dare they covet the waifu of his laifu? The sheath to his sword - omg the Aranara banging pots and pans because if they can’t get sleep (do they sleep??) because of Scara and puppet reader then Scara and puppet reader won’t get sleep because of them!

literally just finished the interlude quest, lets talk about it!! (going to contain spoilers for kazuha's story quest, the inazuma archon quests, the sumeru archon quests, and also the sumeru interlude quest obviously) this is going to be quite long (he is one of my favourite characters and is steadily powercreeping my lore favourite albedo to be no.1) so maybe don't click unless you like absolutely want to fhgjkl

okay to start off with i'm gonna talk about what i expected was going to happen with this interlude slash what is essentially our favourite ex fatui puppet's character quest.

due to the memes and shit about it i initially was kind of wondering if this would be some sort of community service redemption sort of quest for him, something along the veins of him doing things nahida just tells him to or stuff the traveller wants. i figured maybe we'd see a fight scene between traveller and scara, maybe he tries to backstab us or flee or even go see ei. these are all initial fleeting assumptions i developed right after finishing the sumeru archon quests. to be honest kazuha isn't a favourite of mine so the thought of the tatarasuna smithing plot even making it back into the main storyline genuinely didn't cross my mind. like i cared about it because scara was in it but i didn't expect it to be relevant again

after the trailer for the 3.3 update i had a change of opinion again, this time more rooted in worry. genshin has a problem with its antagonists (namely: the raiden shogun/ei) where we get a character presented as directly opposing the traveller, directly causing issues at the cost of characters' lives and freedoms, only to get woobified in service of making them a suitable travelling companion to our main character. i understand they have to try for some semblance of realism as to why our playables are lending aid to us, but i kind of think they lost that a long time ago without even really noticing it. why is the acting grandmaster of the knights of favonius (for example) accompanying us into the desert of sumeru when she ostensibly has a very busy 24/7 job basically running an entire city. how is childe with us when they've sent him from liyue to snezhnaya to inazuma and now to who knows where. they’ve tried very hard to make this “make sense” when it literally never has. and i was extremely wary we’d get a passive puppet mindwiped version of scara. WHICH ALSO MADE NO SENSE, because he very visibly retains at least a good portion of the personality we know and love/hate. look at this fucking face

this is not the face of someone who has a redemption arc. my worry was that somehow they’d get him to apologise for his actions, and have the traveller forgive him wholeheartedly. i was worried they'd wipe his mind, somehow retain his personality, and just hand him over like here you go here's playable scaramouche. he's still a massive bitch but he's #good now. i HATE that. i’ve never wanted him redeemed. i want the weight of his sins and his guilt and his abandonment and his rage and ugliness because to me it makes him one of the most realistic characters genshin's ever managed to write. i don't really know or care how many people share this view, but i would've been happy if they handed him to us straight from laughing in our faces about teppei's death. his scheming killed signora. i wanted that straight from the tap.

so, the quest itself. it got me good i'll admit. when he basically had a crack at erasing himself from existence my jaw genuinely dropped because for me that was... both exactly what i would've done in his position with his power and also a place i'd never expected genshin to actually go. we talk about someone killing themselves in cyno's story quest (murtada radkani and then his father, taj radkani) but he actually tried it- i feel like someone might try to debate me on this but that's the only way i can see it interpreted. we know he's tried and hoped to end himself before but it was kind of??? gratifyingly shocking to see him do it again. and in service of the humans he's continually spoken about with loathing before. it just made him very... real i guess. there's no endless well of hope he just pulls from out of nowhere, it's in service to people he loved and lost centuries ago. he does it without a shred of concern as to what it would cause in the modern day to the real life descendants of the people he'd both loved and killed. IT WAS SO IN CHARACTER. i wasn't celebrating it but from a narrative perspective that was literally perfect. he's gone and im so happy gi has made a good story choice im like sick about it

then the "erased" scaramouche reappears and i let out a sigh of relief that i wasn't even aware i was holding. like i knew he wasn't DEAD because, well, i'm running around sumeru city with him literally equipped in my party and also he hasn't gotten his vision yet so he can't just die. tbh i totally forgot about the "you can't fully erase yourself from existence" thing from rukkhadevata until the traveller brought it up. immediately following my joy that my boy is not Dead dead i go.. oh shit. is this the erasure part??? is his terrible awful beautiful personality just gone and we're left with this fruit picking stall boy? was genuinely concerned about it but i reserved judgement until we entered the dream

guys....... i was so happy. we finally fleshed out lore that i'd been picking at in my brain and it was so fucking good. the pacing was good the dialogue made for a good translation we even got a return to the place where he nearly killed us. he got a fresh start but he didn't. he remembers we remember he's not trying to destroy everything around him but he's not like loving and happy and perfect. essence retained!! i don't really enjoy seeing nahida just. in general she kind of gives me the ick what with her design and all so im glad she stayed as a Voice for most of the quest. i could concentrate on what mattered. i'm nothing if not biased so while this is not my favourite story/archon/interlude quest (that title belongs to xiao's chasm interlude quest) this might be in the top five. top three mayyybe

i do have my gripes with the quest. i really wanted to see him have a genuine modern day confrontation with ei, but now with the erasure/history retcon she doesn't even remember creating him (her and yae's voicelines about him are removed, as are childe's), which is a massive shame yet also strangely fitting. like not to unpack this but sometimes the best thing you can get from a mother who thinks she's done nothing wrong is a clean break. still, i would've loved a confrontation of some sort, and i'm hoping for either that or a fight with dottore as his actual story quest. i also wish we got a unique model for the "puppet" scara that katsuragi found in the shakkei pavilion but we already have two different models for him so i think i'm just nitpicking there.

as for what i ended up (re)naming him, i chose itsuki, specifically 五希. this specific variation of the name means (five) (hope) and is mostly used as a last name, which might make me change it if i find something suitable (i was doing this pretty fast so i had to hurry up with the name, didn't get a ton of time to think it through). i named him this because i won him 50/50, on pity 50, and also this would be his fifth "official" name (the first four being kabukimono, kunikuzushi, scaramouche and then shouki no kami). five is also a pretty important number in asian culture, with it being associated with both good and bad luck (fitting for a character made in such shades of gray as scaramouche), and if i'm getting the information correctly, five is also representative of the ideal of freedom, a pretty solid match for someone newly bestowed an anemo vision. the raiden gokaden were five houses of smithing, of which scaramouche destroyed all but two. additionally, itsuki as a first name is often translated to "tree", and as someone who was "reborn" from irminsul it felt suuuper appropriate. i'm gonna touch base with my little sister (she's half japanese and super fluent) to make sure i'm not just shooting into the dark though, so i'll update if i end up changing it again

i've only read the summers fic until chap 4 (currently reading chapter 5) and it's so good. the mc and alhaitham's dynamic is so funny HAHA i keep laughing every time they have their stupid banters especially in the middle of fighting/interrogating people.

mc having a hydro vision is actually so nice too!! in chapter 4 at the part where they were sitting by the water and mc was playing around with the water by morphing them into dolphins and such was a nice addition to them. having a hydro vision sounds so fun and honestly i kinda want it too now LMAO

i'll also be sure to check out the other fic you've linked! cova's work with the summers fic is truly good and they're hella good at writing, so i'm not gonna miss the chance to not read their other works 🥹

and wow!!! i think you'll do a great job at writing again, and if you ever decide to get back to it, i would drop everything to read your work. no really, you're good at drawing, you make poems, you like solving out stuff, you make your own games— what can't you do???? you have such amazing skills and talents, i'd drop on my knees to see more of your work 😵‍💫

Awfully bold of Mihoyo to drop some Scara lore in the new Archon Quest that could either make or break their absolutely weak sauce of a redemption arc they gave to Ei

Silly silly sketches of Scara and Kazuzu, I know there’s basically no lore connecting them but often it isn’t needed, if your heart tells you to go for it then why not? So I started imagining what ifs. (Very quickly the sketches are: KazuScara when they traveled together the first time, you’ll understand better reading what I wrote ⬇️; Kazuscara when they met again, Kazuha thinks Kuni still looks pretty with his hair cut, it fits him; Kazuscara on holidays lol)

I like the idea of them meeting each other during Kazuha’s wanderings in Inazuma and Scara (Kunikuzushi) was just left (abandoned? Even if Ei just didn’t want to destroy him so I don’t want to use bad words) free (probably homeless in the wilderness, given that Scara introduces himself as a vagrant, he could have lied ok, but his outfit is way too similar to the other vagrants enemies we get to fight from time to time) by Ei.

They could have traveled together for some time, a peculiar meeting. I like to think Kuni still had his hair long when they met, and cut them after they departed (ah and, Kazuha’s hand was not burnt and covered in bandages yet, because that happened after Tomo died). I also like to think, since Kuni probably did not know what to do to survive in the wilderness (it could also be that he doesn’t even need to eat to survive, he could be immortal for what we know, but I still like to think he was absolutely clueless of many things) Kazuha could have taught him some stuff, how to fish for example, how to prepare a shelter for the night, how to read the signs of nature, how to cook,, and about this one, it would be cute if Scara still remembered the recipes Kazuha taught him and cooked them, even if they would come out a little overcooked or slightly burnt, it’d be cute if he was nostalgic and cooked those dishes to remember him, and felt like he was right beside him while eating.

It’d be nice if they also met Tomo and travelled as a trio for some time too!! Oh do imagine ;-; (then they got separated, stuff happened and the fatui took Kuni. Kazu and Tomo got to see each other again a couple of times before.. you know ;-;)

So basically Kazu taught him to live his life, or at least how to begin it, and since it’s this gentle soul we’re talking about I’m sure those were peaceful times for both, Kuni could have even developed soft feelings for him (well these are my what ifs so, yes), probably one of the first people, from his point of view, who were nice to him, so even now, that he’s saw as bad and cruel by anyone who crosses his path (it’s like this for colleagues fatui too) there’s still one spot in his corrupted heart that is soft and still beats for Kazu (and I say corrupted heart ALSO because I suspect Dottore could have messed with Scara In some way, ya know that crazy man who likes to do experiments)

AND WITH THIS I MEAN THAT THERE’S HOPE FOR KUNI, that old Kuni is still there, buried in the depths of his heart, and I’m sure Kazu can bring him to the surface again, In this what if, in this personal non canon universe that I created for comfort myself Scara will have his redemption arc and will become a better person!

There’s more I want to write but, it’s late I’ll do it in another post, and I suspect it’d be less boring to read as well if I divide the parts lol

Bennett... aka the only one who probably properly and fully understands what Razor is saying no matter what- most likely a professional translator of Razor talk, and a professional type maker- also a professional at crashing any app he's on. He's probably asking everyone for a charger cuz his end up breaking and stuff

Yae is... idk- another person moderating but also lurking- she lurks and just reacts to messages like you can in messenger and instagram- she's also the one the causes Scara to INSTANTLY go offline- like, you see "Yae Miko is online" and 0.5 seconds later you see "Scaramouche is offline". She probably just likes to subtly annoy Scaramouche by changing his name so he has to change it back- we have a list so far of "Fandango Man" "Unnecessarily Big Hat" "Frisbee" "Psycho" aaannnddd "Angry Cat"

Ei is there.. just there- she's probably trying to turn the chat into some sort of dystopia- or trying to mute whoever she thinks is annoying at that moment. Also probably asking for links to sites that sell lots of candy

Ayaka half lurks and half is active. Since she doesn't have many friends she's reading the chat, wanting to say something but a little nervous

Thoma- Thoma. That's it- (he's probably telling lame but funny jokes, sending mlvine compilations- rip vine 😔)

Yoimiya is talking about fireworks, taking pictures of the fireworks she's making and spamming it in the chat- asking Albedo to show Klee the fireworks she made cuz.. I can see Klee absolutely LOVING fireworks.

Sucrose is usually showing some of her bio alchemy stuff, giving links to different studies and all that good stuff- she's pretty quiet in the chat since she's naturally shy but I think once she knows reader she'll start opening up a lot more

Lisa the other flirt- like.. she reminds you of a MILF, instantly. Like- beg her to make ASMRs pLEASE- her voice is perfection for it!

Venti is drunk like half the time he's online- he's either drunkly sending music links, sending the same links AGAIN after getting sober, OR it says he's online but in reality he's knocked tf out on his bed- but does he ever have a hangover afterwards??? If he does, he's good at hiding it

Noelle is probably cleaning most of the time, but when she DOES have free time, she comes online and talks to the reader! But even then she can't stop stressing about work and all that like plEASE YOU AND JEAN NEED A B R E A K -

Sara is simping over Ei the entire time while also starting to simp for reader at the same time, prove me wrong

Ganyu is there- she's online more than Xiao- she touches grass, absolutely, but she prolly finds time to get online and say hi, way more often than Xiao. Ask her about glaze lillies please

Keching is usually too busy to get on, but the off chance she have the time or is able to multitask, she'll say hi. She's one of the other more competent people. She has pretty good grammar and spelling so when she makes a typo she's like apologizing and hella embarrassed

Ningguang, Jean part 2 electric boogaloo- except less stressed? She has a proper texting style, I wouldn't doubt. Probably trying to get Beidou to behave but... Beidou says fucc u-

Beidou, the rum queen- she's probably repeatedly sending links to the Wellerman song and "yar har fiddle dee dee", I refuse to be wrong- I can see her probably sending different versions of the Wellerman song too

Kazuha- mans talking in poems as always, even over text. How does he do it? We shall never know- but he also likes music- I could see him (along with Xinyan and Barbara) being into the Vocaloid genre (if you dunno what vocaloid is, vocaloid is a vocal synth- people make songs or covers and post it to places like YouTube, niconicodouga, and bilibili) he's more into the lullaby, soft type of vocaloid songs

Returning to Xinyan and Barbara for a sec- Xinyan is absolutely into the more wild vocaloid songs- like she prolly listens to people like Masa, Deino, UTSU-P, and Pinocchio-P, as well as Wowaka. Barbara most likely listens to the up beat songs- well... the ones that SOUND up beat- whether the lyrics (which are typically on japanese) are up beat or not.. is up for debate (Vocaloid is notorious for having happy, catchy sounding songs with incredibly dark meanings, ranging from death to even darker themes [cough- masa- cough-])

Anndd... adding the kids in here for a second- they're there just cuz... whoever they know- and any relationship would be purely platonic- like sibling-like relationships

Klee caused chaos- no matter what- catch her sending baby shark over and over- please stop playing that song Klee- I love you but pLEASE- chances are she'll yoink Albedo's phone just to type on his account if she doesn't have her own phone... that would probably end up being the reason she ends up GETTING a phone- she's also probably making cute little doodles on ibispaint and sending them because LOok SHE DREW THE READER, ALBEDO AND HER! Doesn't have the best typing or grammar skills cuz she's a child, and probably shortens words a Lot- like "u" "r" and might spell "bye" as "bai", also emoji spam woohoo- she also most likely understands Razor second best

QiQi... is a lurker- she's a zombie so she probably slightly forgets how to use the chat. Types in the shortest sentences, instead even a run on sentence its like... 3 words, send, 4 words, send, 2 words, send- and repeat

Sayu is asleep- usually. When she wakes up she logs on to say hi and good morning even if it's 2 in the afternoon (me too, Sayu, me too-) and then probably off to eat and take a cat nap- she also probably watches sonic just because he's fast- and does the roll run thingy she does

Diona is probably ranting about alcohol and alcoholics and wHY aRe tHEy DrInKing SO Much!? Probably starts trying to roast venti everytime he comes on drunk (99% of the time-) and when she's not doing that she's sending cat pictures and cat memes because cAt! She probably has the better spelling and grammar between all the kids- I could see it

Razor sends so many hearts because he is precious and loves his friends :((( No one dares to make fun of him :((( He uses 🐺 for himself and 🤕 for Bennett ndjfhfhfjd Like "🐺❤️🤕👬🏻" SO CUTE. Reader gets a special heart emoji!

Yae's made me laugh so hard with Scara going offline immedietly. Thats just hilarious and also true😭 I'm not sure what to add for her cuz you got it all😭😭 the lurking mod that annoys ppl (scara, ei and gorou mostly) , her reactions to show shes always watching (how???), the name changing... It's all there. Mmm maybe i'd say if reader catches her attention she'll be kinda lowkey teasingly flirting!!! (Wowie ma'am)

Ei really is just kinda there??? Cuz like if we seperate Raiden from Ei and make them family it'll be like... Ei is nice and quiet and Raiden is intimidating and just mutes people when shes annoyed. Yae likes to annoy them both. Ei likes to drink tea and eat sweets with Zhongli :) I don't know much about Ei or Raiden tbh 😭😭😭

Ayaka being shy 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 she wants to get along with everyone but it's intimidating :((( she probably sticks to cute reactions and encouragements :(((( Thoma and Reader try to add her into the convo like 'haha yeah right, ayaka?' and it's very sweet. She likes how lively everyone is :))

Thoma is friends with almost everyone. It's impossible to find a reason to hate him. He's a fun Dude!! He always offers his help, even if it's the middle of the night. And he can pretty much do everything. Change tires? Yes. Fix ur electricity? Of course. Need a hug? Always. He's so neat. Thoma makes sure fights in chat don't get too serious. He's an unofficial mod :)

YES YES YES Yoimiya unofficially adopting Klee because Klee loves her fireworks 😭😭 She also gets along with many people! Shes sweet and funny and energetic! She talks a lot so zheres not a lot of awkward silence. She and Zhongli probably share long ass stories.
