previous anon here: dorian's predatory business practices are a lot like wattpad's if you know anything about that—they pocket a huge portion of the proceeds for every VN they publish and only give very few pennies to the actual authors, essentially using other people's work to line their own pockets, while pretending to provide a great platform for artists. Last I heard they also have terms that say whatever you upload to them becomes their property IP. it's the kind of situation where they convince artists its the easiest option for publishing a VN, when in reality there are other ways that are just as or even more simple that allow u to keep full ownership of ur work. I also have a grudge against them specifically because they bought up an indie VN studio that I was a fan of, put previously free stuff behind a paywall and otherwise ran it into the ground, and their social media people were very unprofessional and sent threatening messages to fans for making fan content.

Renpy takes some learning, but it's really simple once you know how it works. And besides renpy there are other VN engines that are even simpler (Unity even has a VN library called Fungus thats very simple and straightforward to use) TyranoBuilder is also a popular one. As for chapters, there are absolutely people on itchio updating their VNs a chapter at a time, although i dont know if its in the way youd want; pushing each separate chapters as updates to the main game, or releasing each chapter as a separate game come to mind as options.

(i'd honestly even offer to convert the game to renpy for you since ive been working extensively with renpy for the past 2 years and am very familiar with it and how to work it, if it meant i could save one artist from the clutches of dorian, but that feels too much like overstepping 😅)

So i am not sure if maybe they have changed things, but with games self published to them they own 0% of that IP so I will own Gravehearts 100% only if they where to buy it from me then they’d own it but i personally do not see that happening lmao. So, English is my first language, and I am still currently learning Japanese myself. However, I've studied other languages progressively in the past, and I'm pretty much using the same methods to learn Japanese.

First, I think it's good to remember that what works for me may not work for everyone else because we all learn things differently, and at our own pace.

Before I jump into any language that I'm interested in, I look at the overall writing system of the language, and even look into whether or not it's a tonal language. If it is, does it have tonal markers within the written language to help with pronunciation? Things like that. Even taking the time to research the culture and dialects can help you to understand the language better.

If you can purchase a dictionary that would be helpful, but if you can't, try to find reliable resources online for assistance. For Japanese online dictionaries, I prefer Jisho.org and Japandict.com, and Romajidesu.com.

Length of Study: I tend to keep my sessions short (like 15 minutes max) because that's what works for me, and I try to concentrate on studying one thing well than multiple things all at once. But everyone's different, so if you can do more than great!

Set Small Goals: Like learning all the vowels first, then consonants, then tenses, or whatever you may want it to be.

Commend Yourself: I finally read this one line of Japanese all on my own without using a translator or dictionary. It was only one sentence and it's what some might have considered simple, but l still got excited and gave myself a pat on the back. Do that because each achievement deserves to be celebrated.

Study Methods: Nothing wrong with routine, but I tend to get bored with just one or two methods of study methods, so I try lots of different things to keep my studies fun and interesting.

Utilize flashcards. I love making flashcards for things like phrases, introductions, etc. I tend to practice saying the phrase I've got written on the card out loud too. And they're easy to make, no need to buy anything!

Writing Drills/Worksheets: Sometimes I have to do writing drills. Literally just repetitiously writing the alphabet, vowels, consonants, and words over and over again. But when I do this, I'm also making an effort to pronounce the word or letter or phrase that I'm writing. I feel like it helps me to memorize things more easily. You can usually find premade worksheets online. I've been looking into Tofogu.com recently and their site even has some quizzes! You can always crack open a notebook and fill the pages too, whatever tickles your fancy.

Engage in conversation with others who speak the language if you can. If you can't, then pretend to have a conversation with someone out loud. It might sound silly, but it's helped me with learning greetings and basic conversational skills in the past.

Listening to native speakers. Sometimes at work, I listen to native speakers who have dedicated YT channels for learning Japanese. Anime is a good option too!

Tossing a ball. I literally walk around the room tossing ball up in the air and catching it while I practice pronunciation. It's kind of like another way to drill things in my head whenever I'm feeling too antsy to sit still and focus.

Research. There are a lot of colloquial terms and idioms in other languages that don't always translate to whatever language we speak. If you're reading something and the translation doesn't make sense i.e. something like (He wore a cat), then pause and research until you're able to understand the expression. 'To wear a cat' in Japanese basically means that one is hiding their true nature by appearing to be innocent and harmless (like a cat)...just in case anyone was wondering.

Any way, the most important thing is to take your time, and do things at your own pace. I'm still in early stages of learning things myself with Japanese, but I hope this helps some!

and then comes the exfine phase, where tsumugi once again had short hair. a hairstyle eichi much preferred on him. i dont recall eichi ever being the one to MAKE him have this hairstyle, but it was still what was desired to sell the image of exfines elegance to the school.

and now, after he reunites with natsume and they have their little "to death do us part" moment, tsumugi starts to grow it out. he COMMITS to growing it out despite of outside opinion. even natsumes jabs dont get to him. THIS IS LIKE. HIS FIRST REAL DECISION OF HIS OWN VOLITION HES MADE IN YEARS. IT IS QUITE LITERALLY A SIGN OF HIM ALLOWING SOME CONTROL INTO HIS LIFE. Only thing turning me off from this ship is that its an alternate universe of his ex-brother who would most likely be his brother again if he had a redemption arc. Nexus x any Eclipse ever: listen, im just saying I think he has a thing for Eclipse's (which is funny cause Moon fucking hates them) Treating Eclipse and Ruin like his dogs. Solar being his best friend. Even Dark Sun, who's a really smart Evil Sun who absorbed the knowledge of his Moon, so im counting him. Like I think Nexus would like being thrown around by Lord Eclipse, or helping to fix up Servant Eclipse. I'm just saying-

Eclipse ² x Nexus (gets its own section i rot about these three): them just reassuring the other's that they're loved and cared for- im sorry you can't tell me that these three don't all have some form of attachment issues- Eclipse being so used to people hating him that he kind of just instinctively pushes people away. Similar with Solar, but he does it more so emotionally while also feeling like he has to earn his place and do things for people. And Nexus also feels like he has to prove himself, and that he isn't good enough.

And they just reassure each other and then the others use their words against him (/pos) and they realize how stupid it sounds and anisnsusnsns <3<3 like- nexus being like "you don't have to prove yourself for anyone, Solar. We love you, you don't need to overwork yourself for us." And, like- solar saying it to him back- and Nexus is just like ".. okay listen-" and similar things happening with the other two and ensunsjss-

also they're the three worst at interaction (other than old Moon he takes the cake for worst at it, but its okay i love it)- like they're all pretty bad at it. Eclipse is Eclipse(aka memories as a villain, and is a sarcastic little shit), Nexus is just kind of awkward, and cmon Solar didn't really ever have any interaction after his split than his Moon and probaly kids, we know he can't talk to people easily. Honestly tho Solar is the best at it (he was able to start up a conversation with Moon easier than Moon could with him) and I imagine he's the one who orders at restaurants

And Moon hates both of Solar's boyfriends and Moon and Solar are friends and I think that's just kind of funny. Like Moon likes Solar so he doesn't stop being friends with him even though he's dating the two, but he's bitter about it (though honestly if Nexus had a redemption arc and it was proved he had a virus, I feel like Moon would hate him a little less. But he'd probaly still be insecure about Nexus probaly taking his place and everyone not really liking Moon again so he'd probaly still be an ass to him.)

Anyway they cuddle. Doesn't even have to be romantic, those three deserve to be in love (also the potential from forbidden love Eclipse² is Nausnsusnsn)

Straight forward canon Quan Yizhen remeeting Shi Qingxuan through Xie Lian or he happens by him while he's in the human capital and sees the former Wind master as a beggar

Maybe he stops someone messing with him by accident and beats them up for some other slight but recognizes Shi Qingxuan as the one being messed with and hadn't seen that man since he pulled a runner from heaven with Xie Lian and Ming Yi

They recconect and Shi Qingxuan is happy to see someone he knew sort of because sometimes it hard pretending he wasn't a former god

Quan Yizhen is same as he always is but Shi Qingxuan def notices the man is more depressed and less lively

Shi Qingxuan being asked what happened after he was taken and he doesn't elaborate much on He Xuan but somehow he escaped the calamity ended up here

He wasn't able to ask for help to get his brothers head back and had tried to survive ended up injuring his arm and leg

Shi Qingxuan gets quiet and says softly that he misses his gege

He would listen patiently when sqx confides in him about missing Shi Wudu and how the other gods muat view his brother terribly after it all came to light 🥺

And while he knows what he did was was he still loves his brother and that the man did it to protect him like he always had

Shi Wudu always made the hard choices so Shi Qingxuan didn't have to, even at the very end

Shi Qingxuan hopes to one day follow his brother not soon because that would throw away everything his brother had done and sacrificed for. He lives with the guilt knowing he's alive because others died. But also cannot die because the efforts would have been waste.

So instead he decides to live a long human life

Quan Yizhen sticking around especially after reviving his Shixiong, Considering there was no mention of him being with Yin Yu at the end I can't help but think Yin Yu had cut ties with him permanently finally finding closure not realizing he made it so Quan Yizhen would be unable to find his own from their situation. So he sticks with someone who would understand even as he still tries to reach out to Yin Yu

He becomes a kind of deterent to anyone's who wants to cause the former Wind master harm even if he doesn't intend it just wanting to stick by his new friend

Shi Qingxuan learning to fight from Quan Yizhen and Xie Lian because without that spiritual power backing his muscles he's just a tad pathetic otherwise 🤣

Also Shi Qingxuan going through with becoming a vagabond and goes on silly little adventures with &Quan Yizhen because the man is constantly moving anyway and gets himself into adventures

Whispers go around that a god is protecting Shi Qingxuan with the amount of shit he has survived after he became a beggar

In reality being friends with Quan Yizhen has given him the ability to survive alot of situations out of sheer will and tears

Quan Yizhen watching over Shi Qingxuan till the last of his days, the former wind god refusing to go back to heaven feeling he no longer belongs there anyway, but Shi Qingxuan living a long human life until he passes peacefully

A canon romance between them would probs end with missed chances 😔

Since I imagine Shi Qingxuan would never want to go back to heaven/become a deputy living out a human life

If they fell in love it would be on a timer to get as much out of this as they can before Shi Qingxuan passes away, if they start a romance at all, their own issues probably preventing them from going further then friendship

my massive jumble of faiz thoughts some more coherent than others

kiba yuji is sooo interesting as a character he is such an amazing foil to kusaka. he is a selfish and manipulative person, but much more kinder and with a more acceptable social masking. he is a shithead, just like the reat of the cast. he projects his own ideals. he carries faiz’s misogyny with him in his house with how he treats yuka and kaido. its so disappointing how there is no deeper connection furthered between the trio. its maddening that they all pretend and while that is the point its still wrong to see. the performance of heteronormative household there, its cruel and weird esp when kiba cares for these two but doesnt try to fix or help them. the horse is so fucking complicated and beautiful and fascinating. a fascinating man i have so many complaints and he does it well he is genuine. its so upsetting that he is genuine. he is not malicious a lot of the time like kusaka but he is painfully ignorant of how he influences and impacts others. anyway the parallels of kusaka and kiba are real and true

the concept of being human and ‘being’ ‘human.’ learning how to be human and letting yourself be human. allowing urself to be human. surviving vs living.

i think faiz stuck so hard to me bc a lot of the characters struggle with identifying as a human. something happened that made them question if they r allowed to consider themselves human anymore. if you are not, what are you?

its interesting esp knowing blade comes after it. hajime is super cool but he Wants to be human, is human. characters around him affirm his desire, he wants it so bad.

so many characters in faiz arent human, unknowingly or not. and they must continue regardless and wake up and eat and choose to keep being human. they dont want to be human but they want to live. they want to die and want to be human. they want to die and not be human.

its such a fascinating show esp as someone who deals with depersonalization its like yeah. what does it mean. to die and be human-like again. idk its something so weird to me i love faiz.

truthfully i would want kiba to live to face the consequences of his actions and shoulder that guilt. to know his failures personally again.

just to note this, as much as i love botw, i am not uncritical of it, like while i personally like the weapon breaking and rain mechanics everyone else seemed to hate i do agree that the bosses and dungeons were kinda repetetive and there could have been more bigger sidequests, some more diverse epic music tracks also wouldnt have hurt tho i fully disagree with anyone trying to claim it didnt HAVE music, im convinced those people played it with sound off bc wth (edit. plus the unfortunately still orientalist design of the gerudo plus that belly dancer outfit for link ... that thankfully got removed in totk as far as i know but the rest still stands)

personal criticism id have that i would have prefered zelda never gaining her sacred powers but instead finding a different way to fight back, bc her gaining them like that kinda made rhoams abuse .. right, like turns out to activate her powers you need to literall kill everyone she cares about (at least thats why i feel a bit meh about that), her maybe not being as sidelined like that (tho youd have to change alot for that .. which totk had the perfect chance to and then kinda did it again but worse lol) and the yiga clan being less of one little side mission

(also way too many people kept hating on botw for the same few reasons, often without giving it a chance, i think we all heard all the endless complaints about usually little things so i dont need to retread all of that)

alot of those little criticism things got adressed in totk, which i LIKED, but overall its so much less in harmony, this should have been a game about rebuilding and recovering about working together and then zelda gets immediately booted off and we get introduced to characters we never learn enough of to really care and yet they still take away the mystery botw had left us for the world to feel more alive, they ripped out parts that were so internally organically connected to the world and pretended they never mattered nor existed, characters act off and i cant help but feel like the main 'plot' is, as much as i hate to use that comparison, a badly written fanfiction ... it builds on nothing and just leaves you .. or me at least feeling empty, like i am playing through a mockery of the game i loved ... like all the fun i had thinking about the things in botw, the theories you could come up with was all wasted time

i honestly cant describe it better than totk, despite the little QoL changes, and the changes i DID like, it just feels ... empty? not in a literal way but more ... mentally? it feels so shallow? like at multiple points i felt like the game was actively mocking me, when i reached the shrine of life and was faced with barren walls and a puddle of water i felt betrayed for caring so much about what botw had done .. i felt like i could hear the game laughing while i stood there not knowing what to think of it, and while this was the time when i felt the most actually physically compeltely betrayed, that feeling of being mocked kept happening, i kept feeling like i was treated like a dumb player character that just eats up anything they say without thinking or remembering the title this was supposedly a sequel of, like i should play with the little toys of glueing things together and forget the world around me like a 5 year old

that may sound harsh but that is how i, personally, feel about it

THE SHORT VERSION: i agree with you completely and am Extremely Angry at mihoyo because EVERYONE is mischaracterized in that scene. or rather, in the entirety of moon arc, but that's something for another post.

THE LONG VERSION:

so first of all, im probs gonna focus on bianka a lot in this because im unbelievably obsessed with her. and goddamn was that scene so bad. and also repeat a lot of things you Already Said.

to begin. it's very rushed!!!!!! this scene in its Base Format is inherently flawed simply because... bianka would not reveal her origin that early. like obviously at that point she was already being written very ooc [LIKE EVERYONE ELSE IN THE ARC. SERIOUSLY. IM SO ANGRY ABOUT THAT] but arrrghgh. at least before this scene they at least pretended to preserve bianka's. how do i call it. General Cautiousness?

this is something that clearly means a lot to her and is shown before trying to figure out how to break the news in a gentle way. she is simply not a person who would say [in a very strangely spoken way] "oh im your daughter by the way". She Would Not. this is a woman who would awkwardly try to hang out with these two for a solid 2 months as she feels out how to Tell Them. while obviously, during moon arc she had already spent enough time with the rest of the main cast to Chill Out a bit, she's still just!! kind of emotionally and socially awkward!!! but in a completely different way than showcased in moon arc. does that make sense

also bianka does not speak like that istg if mhy doesn't learn the difference between a character that is Kind Of Serious and a character that sounds like they use a thesaurus for most their sentences-

but kiana and siegfried aren't safe from this either!!!!!! as you said. they departed on Not Great terms and have been separated for years. while they act as if its been maybe a couple of days. its very disappointing for me personally to see the complete lack of regard for the fact that yes, they do care about each other and this reunion is a very happy one, but still!! their bond was. a rocky one.

plus, there's a giant difference between a preteen and, at that point, an adult woman so. siegfried is not meeting the same person he lost. kiana has changed, and due to her experiences- probably even abnormally so, so they NEED to rebuild their relationship simply because even IF before their separation there was no conflict, it would change the fact its been far too long to treat each other as if they have never been apart.

AND the fact that kiana especially was so... unbothered? by the fact that DURANDAL IS HER SISTER. like. do i even have to elaborate. kiana kaslana, world's #1 identity crisis haver, someone who idolized, hated, and respected bianka [in that order], was just like. okay 💗 yay 💗? sighs so deeply. look at how they massacred my girls

theres much more i could say but i dont quite know how to put most of my dislike of this scene into words so like. arrggh. it was personally very very frustrating to me because, as i said, i am a big fan of both kiana's and bianka's. identity, and especially family heritage, is an extremely important part of both of their characters and it was physically painful for me to see a scene i looked forward to A Lot be dismissed like this.

which, unfortunately, is true for most of the moon arc, since it was the worst offender for characterization [or rather, lack thereof] in the entire game, with basically everyone being reduced to a mildly philosophical much so devoid of personality i probably couldn't tell their lines apart if presented with a couple. but alas.

at least salt snow holy city arc was amazing
