I watched the Barbie movie, it was a really fun, goofy movie! I had a good time watching it. I loved how many women there were on the screen most of the time, and how many interactions they had! I didn't appreciate when any of the kens were on screen, that didn't really accomplish much. But I did like they gay energy between all of them, they were so focused on each other the entire time, they all kept forgetting about Barbies completely, which I approve of.
I liked women having the chance to point out the impossible expectations in the society, even if they couldn't go as far as to name the perpetrators or acknowledge the root of it, but I get that, it was not a political movie, it's supposed to be goofy and fun. I very strongly found myself in Barbie when she steps into the our world and just starts noticing everything that's wrong with it; being stared at with the undertone of violence, construction crew failing to be female, the boards and corporations failing to be lead by women exclusively, that's what I'm feeling every day when I look around! It's wrong, and I'm glad they pointed it out.
One small thing that chafed on me was Barbie genuinely being scared of not having perfect body, being upset at tiny things like flat feet or cellulite, why would that be an issue in a female-dominated society? I would have loved if nobody blinked at it because it made absolutely no threat to their political superiority or their value. It also felt a bit odd when Barbie complimented a lady of being beautiful; at that point Barbie didn't hate the signs of aging or reality on others, but still was scared of them on herself. That part didn't translate well for me.
Wish more Barbies had lesbian energy! Weird Barbie had to cover that all by herself and she did an amazing job, but like, get her a girlfriend, come on.
I also loved Barbies and later, women, stating proudly that they know what they're worth and absolutely refusing to be humble about any of it. I loved how appearance of Barbies basically didn't matter, they were all respectable, smart, achieved, valuable and admirable community members, with agency and free will. In a female-dominated world it really does not matter, it was kinda funny that they had to look like barbies, in a world where there was absolutely no need to look like that.
Would love to watch a movie with this exact plot but everyone looks like normal woman, and there's no ken except those two that kept softly dancing when everyone was fighting, they can stay.
#barbie movie#barbie#movie review#barbie analysis#also i loved that she pointed out she wouldn't be wearing heels if here feet were normally like that#kate mckinnon was so hot#this was female centered movie and i appreciate that#i hope it stays number one

Counting to 30: Marcianna 4
The previously empty halls in the campus complex were now full of students going to their respective classes. Marcianna attempted to weave through the throng of women hurrying to their next destination, but found it quite difficult. Among the sea of leotards were also dotted a few students wearing street clothes. They would be going to theory classes where they'd learn dance history, among other things. Those were the only classes at the academy to be co-ed.
Women had an entire side of the campus to themselves with all the amenities, men had a separate side, both sides joined by a taller building in the middle that contained the clinic Marcianna had just come from, a bunch of classrooms, a large auditorium where practical exams and end of year productions took place, and a library.
A familiar bun caught Marcianna's eye as she entered the dance studio wing, Beth had just stepped out of her current class for a quick break. She still had her leather ballet slippers on, normally a faux pas in the hallway, but she wouldn't be very long. "Hey, newbie!", she said as Marcianna waved, "How has your day been so far?"
Marcianna did a quick shrug. "Fine. I still haven't done a class yet. That will change soon, though. I only have one today, then I think I'll just go back to the dorm". Beth nodded, "Who's your prof?". Marcianna responded, "Professor Julie".
Beth gave Marcianna a large smile, "Aww, I love her, she's awesome. I think they give her the intro students so they don't get scared off. She'll put you through your paces, though".
Beth's big, white smile and friendly voice suddenly made Marcianna feel a lot more comfortable. "I can't wait to hang with you back at the dorm", Marcianna grinned. Beth threw back her head and laughed, "After today, I'll be glad to take care of you". She did a quick check of her watch, "I gotta get back in there, and you should get to your class, too. I'll see you later".
The hallway where Marcianna's classroom was smelled of flowers. Just a faint smell, but noticeable. A large glass wall gave her a peek inside where several dancers were milling about, some doing warm up stretches on the floor, some standing with groups talking. A long wall opposite the one she was looking through was also made of glass, a window displaying the outside world, a cliffside overlooking a wooded area. The sky had gone grey and it had started to rain. It caused Marcianna to shiver, but she admired the beauty of it. The entire perimeter of the studio, including the glass walls, was lined with a barre, along which many students chose to stretch.
Marcianna stepped in and found a place to pull off her nylon booties and get comfortable. She sat in front of the large window to the outside and rested her back against it, feeling the coolness of the glass against the area cut from the back of her leotard. She stared at her feet for a moment, pointing and flexing them, making the leather on her slippers wrinkle. "This is real...", she thought to herself. She contemplated her slippers a bit more she a woman in her late 30s walked in. "Good afternoon, ladies! I am professor Julie, you can just call me Julie, welcome to intro to ballet here at Hope International".
Julie's long skirt flowed as she walked to the front of the class, her teaching shoes, black shoes similar to jazz shoes with a large heel, clicking on the shiny wood floor. "Most of you are already on the floor, let's start with some floor work!", she said, clapping her hands together. Marcianna listened to Julie's instruction and followed along to Julie's counts.
A hour later, Marcianna was drenched in sweat, her body was aching like it never had before, she was done for the day. She trudged back to her dorm, pulling her keycard from her bootie and swiping it against the lock. A beep, a click, the door opened. Beth sat on the couch, a plate of raw veggies in her hand as she watched TV. "I told you she wouldn't be easy on you", Beth said, placing her plate on the counter. "Go get undressed, I'll get you some ice".
Marcianna sat down on her bed, taking her modesty skirt off and tossing it to the floor, followed by her leotard. She swung her legs up and laid down on the bed, suddenly very comfortable, she felt like sinking in. "Are you decent?", Beth's voice came in through the door. "You're fine. We'll probably see each other naked at some point", replied Marcianna, a groan of pain in her voice.
The ice packs were cold as Beth carefully laid each one over strategic parts of Marcianna's body, but with the cold came relief. Beth started to massage Marcianna's calf muscles. "Trust me, this gets you feeling better faster". Marcianna closed her eyes and let Beth do her work. "How did you learn to do this?" she asked. "Lots of years of doing it myself. I started in sports medicine, fell into ballet, I figured if that falls through I can go back to sports medicine again".
"It's only our first day and I already like you, Beth", Marcianna forced a smile. Beth stopped a moment. "I think I like you, too..." she said, red filling her cheeks. She continued massaging. "There's supposed to be a welcome party tomorrow night. I'll be going to help out, but we can hang out after. I know a good place."
Marcianna took a deep breath in and smiled. "Yeah, that sounds nice..."

Yuta (cold mafia boss)
Prompt: 20)“The only time a man should be fast is when he’s trying to dodge my bullets.” - 100 Dialogue Prompts for Mob Boss AUs
A/N: since NCT 127 have decided to attack us since Friday with all their day/night posts and whatever more things they still got in the back storage, I just gotta do some fics about the dark concept, cause like, yea XD. I asked my friend whose bias is Yuta to choose a prompt and so, here we are XD
Warnings: some form of harassment, cursing (it's Yuta) drinking, spiked drink and hint of kidnapping
It was a Friday night and you were more than excited to finally have some time off to hang out with your boyfriend, Yuta, who was also part "gang leader" of NCT, an infamous group that people thought do illegal doings when they're the ones shutting the illegal businesses down.
Yuta being Yuta didn't disclose what he did from the beginning. But he also never fully tell you everything which, is understandable, it was confidential information. Despite so, Yuta never restricted your movements and you both would have some normal cafe dates, picnic dates, etc. Even so, there will be times where Yuta would have you do some personal training that includes self-defence, quizzes about types of chemicals, guns, etc. In his defense, he just wants you to be prepared should something goes wrong and you're alone.
Despite following Yuta's needs, you would sometimes joke about how it won't happen or that Yuta will make sure it wouldn't go too far or even if anything did happen, you were sure that Yuta would eventually find a way to make things right. Boi, were you in for a treat.
As mentioned, you were finally going to have a night out with Yuta after so long and had just finished getting ready when you received a text from Yuta saying, "hey love, sorry this is super last minute but could you change into a more black-tie dress code? We are sort of having a business dinner tonight and I want to bring you as my date. I'm on my way to pick you up right now. Don't worry, you don't have to put on anything you're uncomfortable cause whatever you wear, you still look hot to me ;)"
So of course you did what Yuta asked. You changed into a simple long black dress that fitted your figure and touched up your makeup a bit more and let your hair down. As you were putting on the last of your accessories and about to put your shoes on, Yuta was already ringing the bell. You quickly opened the door for him and told him that you were just going to put your shoes on which Yuta chuckled and helped you as he saw you struggling.
"You didn't have to go all out and wear heels babe, you'll have sore feet by the end of the night" Yuta mentioned, holding you steady as you were putting on your heels
"I mean, if it's just dinner, I'll just be sitting either way. You so owe me with a pizza movie night next week" you complained, finally putting your shoes
"Anything for you babe. Let's go" Yuta smiled, bringing your arm wrapped around his and helped you get into the car before he went to the driver's seat
Arriving at the dinner, you felt out of place since this was the first time Yuta actually brought you. Noticing your nervous state, Yuta wrapped his arm over your shoulder, telling you that he'll be right beside you unless you need to go to the restroom or need some personal space.
Nodding, Yuta gave you a heartwarming smile and brought you around. First and foremost, to his other members that were joining the dinner, the people you knew the week you and Yuta started dating. Allowing some weight off since how worried you were.
"Oh, (Y/N)!! Welcome!! Hope Yuta didn't force you to come here" Johnny greeted you which Yuta gave him a glare
"Well, he sorta promised me for a pizza movie night date next week, so I guess it's a winwin" you replied, chuckling
"Oooh, can we come? I miss just watching movies on the weekend" Jungwoo requested, pulling out his puppy eyes
"Maybe if you find yourself a girlfriend, I'd consider it" Yuta hissed, you hit him playfully
"Hey (Y/N), sometimes I wonder what you see in Yuta. He's so aggressive" Jungwoo joked as Taeyong tried to calm everyone and directed everyone to their table since dinner was starting
Dinner surprisingly went well and the opposing business partners were actually cooperating; like, they would agree to what NCT were asking, even giving some suggestions for the corporation. But nevertheless, every NCT member were on their best guard; heck, they all had their guns rested by their hips and even knifes hidden within their clothing.
Seeing how the talk about the business bore you, you took a big sip off of the drink the waiter had just poured for you. Suddenly feeling the urge to go to the bathroom, you excused yourself from everyone at the table, nodding your head when Yuta told you to immediately come back once you're done.
However, you didn't go to the bathroom because of the urge to pee or anything. Instead, it's because you didn't feel too good, maybe the alcohol in your drink was a bit too much to your tolerance but whether you want to admit it or not, you didn't feel good and felt like you could pass out at any second.
After purging and sitting down for a bit, you felt slightly better but not good enough because everything around you was tilted. Taking a deep breath, you just kept on thinking how the dinner table wasn't that far and if you hurry, you can just make it to Yuta's side and pass out however you like.
Pulling whatever willpower you have left, you stood up and started to walk out of the bathroom. Holding onto the wall, you slowly walked down the hall back to your table, until someone came up to you, asking if you were alright which you told them that you were fine. You may be dizzy and not feeling good, but you surely weren't dumb nor were you drunk.
Despite the guy saying that all he wanted to do was to help you, you clearly knew that wasn't his true intention since he was gripping you a bit too much to your liking. You've tried pushing him away but that only made his grip tighter. And to top it off, instead of helping you to your actual table or at least asking where your table was, he brought you to a more quiet area; making your heart beat quicker.
Unfortunately, at this point, whatever was in your drink was sinking it and you slowly start to lose consciousness and hope as from what you can see, you were far from your table. But thank the universe because all of a sudden you hear a loud ring and the tight grip was gone; instead, it was replaced by a warm embrace.
"Get him out of here before I actually kill him right here and now" you heard Yuta's stern voice commanding his other members
"I got you, baby. Let's get you back home, hmm?" you heard Yuta's voice turned soft; not having any more energy, you just nodded and fell asleep in his embrace
Because Yuta felt he can't leave you alone nor not torment the people that hurt you, he decided to bring you back to NCT's place. Wiping off your makeup and putting on your skincare for you, Yuta had one of the maids help change your clothes and then he tucked you in bed; not leaving your side until he's convinced that you're fully asleep before leaving a gentle kiss on your forehead then quietly leaving the room.
Walking out of the room, he saw Jeno and Jaemin, asking them to guard your room until he gets back. Making his way to the basement, he met with the NCT members that joined the dinner that did not end well at all.
Turns out, not long after you left, the neos already had a bad feeling; that something was not right, especially since their "business partners" were eyeballing the situation around them and it was revealed that the dinner was just a cover-up and that they were planning to use you to get to the neos, which clearly did not end well for them.
"Is she alright?" Taeyong asked, seeing Yuta was fuming
"She's very much passed out the second I found her. Are they all in there?" Yuta questioned strictly
"Yea. All tied up and blindfolded on the ground" Johnny mentioned
"Good" Yuta smirked, slamming the door open, making the prisoners jerked in surprise
"Rise and shine motherf*ckers. I hope you're ready for what's coming" Yuta shouted as some of the neos took their blindfolds off
"And y'all call yourselves men. Tch. You guys may be agile but not agile enough. The only time a man should be fast is when he’s trying to dodge my bullets. Not getting caught by their enemies. And surely not looking or thinking to do anything to another person's girlfriend. Oh well, what's done is done. Be lucky that we all got there in time. But, that doesn't mean I'll go easy on you. Let's see...should I start off with your fingers because you touched my girl or your head for ever thinking that little stunt of yours. Either way, I'm definitely going to take my time with you all" Yuta ranted, a smirk forming on his face as he saw the horror of his prisoners while the neos put their blindfolds back on
A/N: yeap, this turned out longer than expected. Welp, this is what happens when NCT updates with a dark concept I guess XD

Move On VIII (Modern!Ivar/Reader)
A/N: Hello!♥️ Two weeks later, here you go! I only have two things to say: 1. please don't hate me 2. forgive me because it's too long and it might be a bit boring bc my brain was a bit dry this week. BUT the ending is intense. I almost divided it in two different chapters but I'm ending it on chapter 10 and I already have everything planned😔 Please remember there's two chapters left and anything could happen👀 Now enjoy and thanks for reading!
Warnings: fluff, a bit of angst, Hvitty is the best, Alfred is cute, Ivar is Ivar, there's smut, mentions of alcohol, mentions of anxiety and I think that's all!
Words: 7122 (the longest chapter I've ever written sorry)
Move On Masterlist
my three favorite boys by @therealcalicali
You had thought about your wedding day, like every single person on Earth. You imagined it being outside, maybe near the sea, or in the forest, maybe the gardens of a beautiful palace. But for some reason, you never imagined the groom's face. It was always about you, the place and the music, the dress, the flowers, the cake... Until you met Ivar.
Getting married wasn't something you wished to do soon, it could wait. It was more a future plan than a wish, because in some way getting married and having a child was something that scared you. Ivar managed to make you change your mind, suddenly you weren't that scared of having kids or the commitment that implies a wedding. It would be fine as long as he was the one waiting for you at the end of the aisle and the one holding your baby. It would be fine as long as it was him there with you.
Weddings were a celebration of love. At least that was what everyone said, two people that loved each other enough to try and make it last forever. Maybe they gave too much importance to the wedding itself and forgot the love part. Or maybe you were so bitter about anything romantic or related to love that you stopped thinking about them as a love gesture and started seeing it as a contract.
You hadn't heard about Ivar again. Not since that day that ended so badly. Hvitserk said he was still with Freydis, and soon he just stopped talking about him at all. Maybe hoping you'd get over him faster if he didn't mention him. But it wasn't really working.
At least you stopped crying. Now it was more like a sad grimace whenever you thought about it, and sometimes, Hvitserk realized you'd stop talking and looked away, biting your lip and probably thinking about him. Especially when there was something that reminded you of him.
But the problem of being so close to someone, shaping your entire life around him and sharing everything together was that there wasn't really anything that didn't remind you of him.
Alfred, Thora and Hvitserk had organized to be around you all the time. Distracting you, forcing you to go out and Hvitserk even let you do his makeup once. Sometimes it was annoying, but you couldn't be mad at them, they were just trying to make you feel better.
You tried to convince Thora and Hvitserk to go to the wedding together, but she didn't want to go to said wedding. As you promised Alfred you'd go with him, he'd be the one picking you up, and you'd see Hvitserk in there.
Of course, Ubbe and Torvi chose a beautiful forest near their own home to celebrate the wedding. A pagan wedding. You had been to a few of those with Ivar, as he and his family still worshipped the Norse gods. But this time you felt like an intruder, as you weren't even part of the family anymore, and your date was a Christian man.
The dress Hvitserk chose didn't look that good on you at home as it had looked on the changing rooms, as always, but you forced yourself to wear it with confidence. You even practiced walking with the new heels you had bought, and at that point you just wished you wouldn't fall in front of everyone.
You chose a very natural makeup, and a simple hairstyle that was within your humble means. You didn't want to draw attention and wished that the guests wouldn't recognize you. The last thing you needed was people talking about you and Ivar.
Traditions were traditions, nonetheless, and you wore red underwear to try and feel a bit sexier. Even if you had tried to get rid of the red dresses and underwear you wore to catch Ivar's attention, that red set in particular was too precious for you. It was the first one he bought you, and you still remembered the first night you wore it.
And, why am I thinking about Ivar now?
You sighed and looked at your own reflect on the mirror. You were ready, just needed to put those deadly traps on your feet and grab your purse. Alfred had called and he was on his way.
Oh yeah, because you're seeing him today. For the first time in months, you were going to see him again and with Freydis on his arm. You didn't even know how you'd react, but it had given you nightmares for days.
The doorbell rang, and you finished putting on the heels before walking to the door and opening it. Alfred looked like a prince, with his black suit and a flower on his hand. A sunflower. It made you smile more than it was socially acceptable.
"Hi" you waved at him "You look good" you winked at him, Alfred chuckled and blushed softly.
"Hello" he nodded politely "You look..." he stopped to look at you in the eye and sighed "Absolutely beautiful"
"Oh, um..." you looked down, flustered "Thank you, I... Didn't expect a compliment now"
Alfred smiled and took your hand, making you twirl and giggle.
"This is for you" he gave you the sunflower. You bit your lip and took it.
"You're always giving me flowers"
"Because you deserve them" he shrugged "Are you ready?"
You nodded. Taking the purse you left next to the door and checking you had everything.
"Okay" you sighed "Let's go"
__________________________________
As soon as you got out of the car someone covered your eyes. You laughed and grabbed his arms to avoid losing your balance.
"Hvitserk" you put his hands away and turned to look at him "Look at you! You look nice"
He did look nice. His dirty blonde hair was braided and the suit looked good on him, it made his green eyes stand out.
"You look very nice too" he winked at you, his flirtatious smirk made you roll your eyes "Nice dress, who chose it?"
"Someone with a very good taste, obviously" you laughed "Are we late?"
Hvitserk turned to greet Alfred. The both of them weren't exactly friends, but thanks to you they were at least civil with each other and you were more than happy with that.
"You're just on time" he sighed "The guests are starting to get in" he pointed at the small path adorned with flowers and wooden decorations that entered the forest "Ubbe is already there, he's surprisingly relaxed, considering the fact he's marrying Torvi" Hvitserk muttered the last part and you raised an eyebrow.
"I would like to say hello to Ubbe before the ceremony starts" said Alfred with a small smile. He was very close to Ubbe, and worked with him frequently. You could say Ubbe was his favorite Lothbrok, and you couldn't blame him.
Hvitserk nodded and stepped back.
"I have to look for my brother, he told me he was close" he explained "But go, I'll catch you later"
My brother, Hvitserk now only referred to Ivar as 'his brother', noticing how you sometimes flinched when you heard his name, even if it was just because the thought of him startled you.
You grabbed Alfred's arm and hoped you wouldn't fall with the heels, he seemed to think the same, because he held you tightly.
"Doesn't it bother you that this is a pagan wedding?" You asked, genuinely curious when you caught a glance of the cross that hang from his neck. It belonged to his biological father, who passed away before he was born.
Alfred seemed amused at the question.
"I'm not bothered by people believing in other Gods, Y/N" he chuckled "In fact, I find paganism very interesting, and Ubbe told me a lot about his Gods and Goddesses, it's interesting, and I don't think my own God would be mad at me for respecting other beliefs"
You nodded slowly. Alfred was very religious, but not on an obsessive way. It was one of the things you liked about him, how relaxed but loyal he was about his religion.
Ivar was also very religious, but focused on a very different religion. It was something they had in common even if they wouldn't ever recognize it, but you could see it in both of them.
"Besides, I'll confess that Norse weddings are often much more fun than the Christian weddings" he added with a smile.
"Oh, are you getting drunk tonight?" you teased with a small smile. Alfred shook his head but laughed.
"Maybe" he raised an eyebrow "But only if you drink with me"
"Obviously" you rolled your eyes "On the last wedding I went to, Hvitserk, Ivar and I stole a bottle of tequila and got drunk on the car while listening to my favorite playlist"
"Wow" he laughed again "Okay, I'll try to keep up with you then"
There was a lot of people at the clearing already. You remembered Ubbe's first wedding, the first one you attended to with Ivar. He looked more relaxed now, and happier.
"Alfred" he greeted your companion with a big smile and a bone-crushing hug. Alfred smiled widely and hugged him back "You look good, man, thanks for coming"
"Of course, Ubbe" when they separated, he touched his shoulder firmly "I'm happy for you"
"I was a bit confused when your family arrived without you" Ubbe pointed to a group of people. When you turned to look at them, they turned around to pretend they weren't looking at you, making you raise an eyebrow and Alfred frown and blush "But I see you have better company" he laughed "Hello, Y/N"
When he leant in to hug you, you sighed. Ubbe gave the best hugs ever.
"Hi" you smiled "Thank you for inviting me"
"Are you joking?" he shook his head "You're like my sister, of course we'd invite you, you look pretty" he nodded "My mother is going to be thrilled to see you" he pointed at Aslaug, who stood all alone away from the crowd "She scolded all of us during the last family dinner, saying how you were too good for this family and we didn't appreciate you enough"
You smiled softly, Aslaug always treated you like a daughter.
"I'm gonna go say hello to her" you looked back at them. Alfred nodded and watched you leave until Ubbe hit his head softly with a smirk.
Aslaug never had a good relationship with the rest of the family. Ivar told you no one truly accepted her when Ragnar divorced Lagertha, and she spent most of the time taking care of Ivar. When Ragnar left, she just ignored them.
Ubbe was right, her eyes lightened up and she gave you a big smile when you approached.
"Y/N! Oh, Gods, you look so beautiful" she hugged you tightly "How have you been? I asked Hvitserk about you but he wasn't very specific"
"Hi" you smiled back at her "I'm fine, I think, you look beautiful too"
She seemed to like that comment. She did look very pretty, with her wavy, blonde hair braided and wearing a beautiful blue dress.
"I'm so glad to see you" she sighed "I missed you, you have to come with Hvitserk some day"
You wondered if she knew about the fact that you had slept with Hvitserk. But just when you were about to reply, she looked at someone just behind you, and you tensed up. There was only one person that could make Aslaug smile like that, and you weren't too excited to see him.
When you turned around, you forgot how to breath for a moment. Ivar wore a dark grey suit, that made his deep blue eyes shine like sapphires. He leant into the crutch and walked slowly, looking around with his eyebrow raised, as if he truly believed no one was worthy of his presence. After months without seeing him, thinking you were actually making progress in moving on, you realized you were still too into him. He was just too much.
When you were able to tear your eyes off of him, you realized Freydis was with him, dressed in red and looking so effortlessly beautiful that you felt like crying again.
Hvitserk reached you first, greeting his mother with a kiss on her cheek and putting his arm around your shoulders.
"Come on, let's go, this is about to begin" he whispered. When you left, you could feel Ivar's eyes on you, nearly burning. You didn't dare to look at him.
_______________________________________
Torvi was so beautiful on her white dress and the flower crown on top of the small braids on her hair that you couldn't help but tear up a bit. Ubbe looked at her with such an intensity, with eyes so full of love that you envied both of them for a moment. They couldn't stop looking at each other, they were so lost in themselves that barely listened to the völva that married them. To be fair, you barely listened either. It made you wish you had someone to look at like that, someone that looked at you like that. A few months earlier, you thought you had it.
Maybe you still could have it, with Alfred. He was the sweetest person you had ever met, and he treated you like a queen, always giving you space and making sure you were okay. You loved him so much you thought you'd explode if he had another sweet gesture with you, but it wasn't romantic love. You could try and maybe in some more months you could fall in love with him, but you didn't want to break his heart, he didn't deserve it.
And Hvitserk? He was your best friend, but even if you could feel attracted to him, you knew it wouldn't work. And both Alfred and Hvitserk deserved true love. But it wasn't you.
Ivar sat on the front rows, with his brothers and his parents. Freydis was sitting next to him, but they didn't touch each other. In fact, they barely talked. Then the völva talked about twin flames, about true love that always found its way through every single obstacle, and when you looked at him, he was looking right back at you.
______________________________________
"You're back to drinking, huh?" Hvitserk laughed while sitting next to you. You groaned and bit your lip to hold back a laugh.
"I needed it" you pouted, looking at the drink you just ordered "Alfred introduced me to his family, but I don't think they like me very much"
Hvitserk stole your drink and took a sip, making you glare at him.
"His family is very protective of him" he shrugged "And you're probably not very popular considering you're Ivar's ex"
You turned your head to look at them, standing at the other side of the room. Judith, Alfred's mother, at least had been nice, but Aethelwulf, his (adoptive) father, looked at you suspiciously. You already knew Aethelred, his brother, but even if he greeted you politely, he didn't seem too happy with you either.
You also spent some time with the newlyweds, Björn and his wife and Lagertha, but you also felt out of place. In fact, you didn't feel comfortable until you stepped away from the crowd and reached the bar.
"There's food there, Hvitserk" you snatched your drink from his hand "Leave my drink alone"
He chuckled.
"I figured you needed some company, you look a bit sad here all alone" he shrugged again "Besides, I don't really feel comfortable in there" he frowned. The guests were finishing their food and getting up to dance and talk around the room. The venue in which the feast took place belonged to a friend of Ubbe's, so they had gotten the biggest salon.
Aslaug chatted with Floki and Helga, Ragnar tried to flirt with an amused Lagertha and Sigurd and Ivar had argued at least three times during the feast, with Björn interfering to avoid a possible murder. So the atmosphere was a bit tense and awkward.
"Remind me to never celebrate a wedding with my family" Hvitserk sighed. You giggled and shook your head "I mean it, is there anything worse than a wedding with a dysfunctional family?"
"A wedding with a functional family" you raised an eyebrow "That would be boring"
Fortunately, no one paid too much attention to you. Helga greeted you excitedly, and Floki hugged you and told you Freki missed you. You teared up remembering the sweet husky they had in Iceland. Sigurd was also nicer to you now than when you were with Ivar. Blaeja smiled to you shyly. Everything was awkward and felt weird, like you shouldn't be there.
The only one you hadn't talked to was Ragnar and, of course, Ivar. After he was finished eating, he sat down with Freydis. She tried to say hello to you with a sweet smile but Alfred had interrupted her and took you away. You nearly kissed him in gratitude.
"My father asked about you" Hvitserk added when he saw you staring at Ragnar, who was now talking to Harald Finehair.
"Really?" you frowned "I didn't think he'd remember me"
Even if you had been with Ivar for years, you had only met his father a few times, during important events or festivities. Usually, he was traveling the world, working and avoiding his responsibilities as a husband and a father.
"Of course he remembers you, he always asked about you... Don't tell anyone, but you were his favorite daughter-in-law, remember that time when you managed to make Ivar apologize to Sigurd after he insulted him during Jul? He was impressed"
"And he told you that" you rolled your eyes, thinking Hvitserk was probably making it up to make you feel better.
"Yes, he did, he also called Ivar a fucking idiot when he heard he left you, it was the first time I agreed with my father in a long time"
That made you smile.
"Your family is too nice with me" you sighed "I'm gonna miss them"
That startled Hvitserk.
"What? Why? Where are you going?" he glared at you "You're not leaving"
"I don't know" you took another sip of your drink "I talked to Alfred about it, he had friends in England that could help me get a job there and..."
"England?" Hvitserk scowled "You're moving to England?"
"I'm not" his indignation amused you "Not for now, I think, it's just an idea"
"You can't leave me here" he pouted "Who is going to come with me to the pub then?"
"I'm sure you'd find someone to get drunk with pretty soon"
He shook his head, and the two of you stayed in silence for a couple of minutes.
"It's impossible to replace you, Y/N" he whispered "You're too special for that"
"Aw" you felt a lump in your throat and the urge to hug him "That's sweet, Hvitty"
"I mean it" he winked at you "You're great, I just wish you saw it too"
"Keep saying these things to me and I'll give you my drink"
He smiled, but shook his head and stood up.
"I'm going to talk to Ubbe" he announced, you saw he was now talking to Floki and Aslaug, away from Björn and Lagertha "I have something to give to him"
You nodded and watched him leave with a small smile. Once again, you should have fallen in love with him.
_______________________________
After three drinks, you stopped feeling intimidated by the crowd, at least a bit, and felt brave enough to get closer to it. Your eyes fixed on Ivar and Freydis, still sitting down and who seemed to be having a deep conversation. It didn't look good, but before you could even start wondering what they were talking about, someone put their arm around you, startling you.
"Hello, Y/N" you turned around to see Ragnar, already a bit drunk and with a big smile on his lips. His eyes, so similar to Ivar's, seemed to look directly into your soul "Long time no see"
"Hi" you smiled at him "How are you?"
He frowned, then grimaced and then shook his head.
"I'm... Alive" he shrugged "So, you and little Alfred?"
Ragnar Lothbrok wasn't one to beat around the bush.
"We're friends" you chuckled "He's been an amazing friend to me these past months"
"Yeah, after my... Brilliant son fucked it up" he clenched his jaw, taking a sip of his beer "Alfred is a really good kid, son of a great man"
"He's the best" you nodded "Did you know his father?"
For the first time, the smile on Ragnar's face faltered.
"Yes, I did" he cleared his throat "He was a very good friend of mine"
"He'd be proud of his son, then" you smiled, looking at Alfred who was currently talking to his brother.
"He would" Ragnar nodded "Unfortunately, I can't say the same for my own sons" he muttered, and you raised an eyebrow.
"Why?" you chuckled.
"I must admit it's my fault" he sighed "They inherited it from me, the capacity of ruining everything when they have a great woman by their side" you'd swear his eyes fixed on Lagertha and then on Aslaug for a moment "Ivar is the smartest boy I've ever seen, but he can also be stupid sometimes, you know it, because you understand him better than anyone, better than himself, even than his own mother" you bit your lip, looking away "And I know he regrets it"
"Look, I really love Ivar" you sighed "I will always love him because he was a very important part of my life for years, but he's happy with Freydis now, and I'm glad he's happy"
Ragnar chuckled, shaking his head.
"I'd argue with you on that, but Alfred is coming and I think you deserve a good time with him now rather than talking about my son" he winked "See you around, Y/N"
Before you could reply, he left, walking towards the bar as he finished his drink.
"Hello" Alfred stopped next to you, also looking at Ragnar with an eyebrow raised "Everything okay?"
You turned your head and smiled softly at him.
"Yes, I think" you giggled "It's just Ragnar being weird"
He hummed, like he understood exactly what you meant.
"I just wanted to ask you if you..." he looked around with a frown, and blushed furiously "Maybe, want to dance?"
You were surprised, thinking no one really danced at these things, but a quick look around made you realized that people were definitely dancing, or well, at least they were trying.
Ubbe and Torvi moved slowly together, with their foreheads pressed together and a small smile on their lips. Around them, some couples danced at the rhythm of a slow song.
"Oh, um..." you licked your lips, nervously "Sure, I'd love to"
Alfred looked relieved, and took your hand softly, leading you to the dance floor. Or well, the part of the salon on which people danced.
He knew how to dance, of course he did. You nearly rolled your eyes when he whispered that you should put your hand on his shoulder and started leading your movements. He was too soft, too polite and too perfect. You looked at his face intensely as he danced and you moved clumsily with him. He didn't make eye contact, too nervous and always looking down.
"Alfred" you pouted "You're one of the most amazing men I've ever met" you stopped moving to hug him "Oh my god, I wish I could..."
He hugged you back, nodding against your neck.
"I wish that too" he muttered "But I can't force you"
"I tried, I really did, and I love you so much, but..."
"Hey" he stopped hugging you, and cupped your face softly "Look at me, Y/N, you don't have to explain yourself, you feel what you feel and it's fine, I'll get over it" he giggled as you teared up, feeling the worst person in the world "We're friends, and that will never change"
You nodded.
"Thank you" you took a deep breath "For everything"
"Of course" he smiled "I think it's time you start being a bit more selfish and put yourself first, stop worrying about what the others are feeling, focus on yourself"
You hugged him again and kissed his cheek.
"I'm gonna go get some air" you took a deep breath "I'll be back, okay?"
He nodded, letting you go. You rushed to the door and left the building, only breathing again when you were out in the garden. It was a pretty entrance, with cobblestones, a lovely fountain and some flowers. At least it was peaceful and quiet. Or you thought it was, because you heard a metal noise and a groan, which made you jump and gasp before you looked to the side.
It was already dark, and the only source of light were the lovely streetlights adorned with ivy. It came from one of the benches at the side of the entrance, and you nearly cried when you saw the source of the noise.
"Ivar?" you sighed, drying your tears with your fingers "What are you doing here?"
He raised his head and glared at you with his jaw clenched, he had been focused on his braces and didn't even hear you approaching. When he didn't reply, you frowned and walked towards him, walking slowly to avoid falling down with the damned heels.
"Where's Freydis?" you asked softly, understanding something was wrong.
"She left" his voice sounded dry and empty, almost as if he had been crying.
"Why?"
"Because I told her to leave" he pouted. Ivar had the tendency to pout, and he hated when you said he looked cute doing it, probably thinking he looked intimidating.
You sat down on the bench, and decided not to ask because he didn't seem too inclined to talk about it.
"What's wrong with the braces?" you asked slowly.
"I don't know" he groaned, grabbing his right leg "I think I moved it and..." his lip started trembling when he started fiddling with it again.
"Stop" you tried to grab his hand, but he ignored you "Ivar, stop, you're going to hurt yourself"
"Why do you care?" he raised his voice, making you scoff "Why don't you go back there with Alfred?"
"Don't yell" you glared at him "After everything you've done, you don't get to yell at me"
He took a deep breath, rubbing his eyes with his hands and shaking his head.
"I want to go home" he sighed "I can't go back there"
"Hey, what happened?" you were starting to get worried, because that wasn't like Ivar "Should I call your brothers? Your mother?"
"No" he shrugged "They will just rant about how stupid I am for letting you go"
You looked away again.
"You did hurt me" you muttered "A lot"
Ivar didn't look at you either.
"That's the worst part" he scoffed "That they're right"
This time you did look at him, surprised and with your lips parted. For a moment, you felt the need to hug and kiss him, but you couldn't.
"If you know they're right why did you do it? And I don't mean breaking up with me, I mean being so cruel, treating me like I was nothing to you"
"I don't know, Y/N" he sighed tiredly "I was angry, you moved on"
"I didn't move on!" you scoffed "Dear God, Ivar, I couldn't move on, I spent the worst months of my life trying to but I couldn't, you're such an asshole" you groaned "You broke up with me, acted like I was nothing but a burden to you, you made me feel like I wasn't good enough, and then had the audacity of acting like I was the one that fucked everything up!"
Ivar's eyes were full of tears when he raised his head again.
"I don't feel like talking about that now"
You were about to keep ranting when you looked at his eyes for the first time, and gasped when you saw how blue they were.
"Did you take your medicines today?" you frowned when he shook his head "Why? Oh God" you groaned "Should we go to the hospital?"
He shook his head again.
"I just want to go home"
"Are you in too much pain, Ivar? Wait, I'll call a cab" you unlocked your phone and stood up.
_________________________________
You had never seen Ivar like that. So quiet and sad, looking at his own feet and not even reacting when you sat down next to him again.
"The cab will be here in ten minutes" you announced softly, regretting being to harsh on him a few minutes earlier "Are you sure you don't want to go to the hospital? Maybe we should, it might get worse, what if something happens?" you bit your lip nervously "I should go and tell your family"
"No" he grabbed your arm when you were about to stand up again "Don't tell them, it'll be fine as soon as I get home, take the pills and rest a bit"
"Okay" you sighed "But at least let me get Hvitserk so he can go with you"
Ivar's face changed again, this time he looked like a lost puppy, his pouty lips parted and his eyes fixed on yours, nearly begging.
"Aren't you coming with me?" he whispered, and you sighed.
"I shouldn't" you muttered in reply "I don't think..."
"Please" he insisted, and you noticed the two of you were too close "We need to talk"
He was so soft, so vulnerable in that moment that you nodded slowly, and let yourself lean into him slowly just before you heard someone calling your name.
Hvitserk left the building at the same time you got away from Ivar quickly turning your head to look at him. Ivar looked irritated by the interruption, but didn't say anything.
"Hey" he looked surprised to see the both of you there "Y/N, Alfred said you'd be out here" he frowned "Ivar, I was looking for you... Is everything okay?"
"Hi" you smiled softly "Ivar is not feeling good, he's in pain" you explained, standing up and approaching him "I called a cab"
Hvitserk's big brother side showed up when he walked over to Ivar, frowning.
"You didn't take the medicines?"
"I fought with Freydis, I forgot" he shrugged.
"Where is she?" Hvitserk looked around, a bit confused.
Ivar didn't reply, but they seemed to understand each other perfectly.
You gave them a few minutes together, until you approached them again. Hvitserk stood up with a sigh and shook his head.
"You can leave" he said softly, caressing your arm "I will stay with him"
You heard the cab arriving and looked at Ivar.
"I..." you took Hvitserk's hands "Maybe I should stay with him"
He took a deep breath, rubbing his eyes and shaking his head.
"Y/N..."
"It's okay" you chuckled "It's fine, Hvitserk, I'm fine"
"Are you sure?" he whispered "He is..."
"I know, and it will be okay, we... Need to talk, I think"
If Hvitserk thought you were stupid, he didn't say it.
"If you need anything, call me, okay?"
You nodded as he kissed your temple softly. You could feel Ivar's eyes on you, burning, when the cab stopped next to you and Hvitserk turned to help him.
____________________________________
It felt too familiar to enter their flat, to help Ivar sit on the couch before taking the medicines to him with a glass of water. You were so used to the process that for a moment you forgot everything had changed since the last time you did it.
He did look more relaxed after a few minutes, when you sat on the couch and took your heels off with a tired sigh. You could feel Ivar's eyes on you, but tried to ignore him, too exhausted to start arguing with him again. You felt the pressure on your chest again, as you always did when someone mentioned him or when you saw him, but this time it was a bit less intense, maybe because Freydis wasn't around.
"I'm going to bed" he announced after a few minutes, you supposed that the strong painkillers had already kicked it at least a bit "Today was shit"
You wanted to scream at him, every day had been shit for the last few months because of him. But you were too exhausted of yelling, arguing and crying because of him, you wanted a truce, even if it was just for a few hours.
Ivar got up, grunting and taking deep breaths as he moved slowly towards his bedroom. At first, you weren't even thinking about helping him, you had already done too much for him that night, much more than he actually deserved. But when you looked at him and saw him struggling, you couldn't help it and got up to help him. Usually, Ivar would frown and say he didn't need help, but this time he didn't say a word until you reached his bedroom.
You bit your lip, looking around the room and remembering the last time you were in there. Ivar let himself fall on the bed and sighed in relief when he got to take the braces off. You sat on the bed and looked at him sternly.
"Hvitserk said you've been skipping therapy sessions" you narrowed your eyes at him "And didn't go to doctor's appointments, this is what you get for being an idiot"
Ivar raised an eyebrow, and the ghost of a smile danced on his lips as he turned his head to you.
"You and Hvitserk talked a lot about me, didn't you?" he scoffed "Did he also mention me when you were fucking?"
You rolled your eyes, but you weren't going to play his game anymore, not that night.
"Anyway, I'm leaving" you stood up "Go to sleep and call the doctor tomorrow"
Ivar narrowed his eyes at you.
"I thought we needed to talk" he scowled "But now you want to run back to Alfred"
"Look" you sighed, crossing your arms "You're tired and on a bad mood, I'm tired and a bit drunk, talking it's probably not a good idea, so try and get some rest and we'll talk some other day"
"I saw you dancing" he ignored you completely, making you sigh again "With him"
"Yes, and what about it? You have no right to be bothered by that, because you were with your girlfriend"
"She's no longer my girlfriend" he clenched his jaw and his voice broke a bit "It's over"
Your expression softened. Even if you'd love to slap him in that moment, your heart broke a bit knowing he was hurt.
"What happened?" you asked softly "The last time you told me you loved each other and all of that"
Ivar shrugged, looking away and taking a deep breath.
"I don't know, I suppose she didn't love me that much"
You looked at him with a pout. You could feel that dull pain on your heart when you thought about him, you missed him with your entire life, the thought of your relationship hurt and you knew it will keep hurting forever. Ivar probably didn't care about you, or maybe he saw you more like a friend, because it was obvious Freydis had marked him much more than you in just a few months, you had seen him looking at her. So probably she was his Ivar, that thing that would be painful his entire life.
A part of you wanted to be happy. They broke up, he was mistaken and it didn't work out. But you couldn't do it when you looked into his eyes and saw pain. You couldn't see him in pain.
"I'm sorry" you said softly.
"Are you?" he raised an eyebrow.
"Yes" you rolled your eyes "I don't want to see you sad"
"Wouldn't you feel better yelling and insulting me?"
"Maybe" you shrugged "But I don't have the strength to do it"
Ivar nodded. He didn't have the energy to fight either. You laid down next to him, careful not to wrinkle the dress. Ivar stared at you intensely, and felt the tug on his chest again. He missed you more than he actually realized. It had been during the wedding, when he saw you looking stunning, smiling and greeting people... With Alfred next to you. He knew you'd be worried about him because he hadn't taken the medicines, that you'd make him sit down and would make everyone approach him so he wouldn't have to walk, that you'd take care of him, and if he was feeling better, would make him try to dance with you after the feast. Now you were dancing with Alfred, giggling and hugging his brother, and barely looked at him. And Freydis noticed.
When you looked at him again, he was much closer than you remembered, and it started you as you tried to move, flustered and suddenly very nervous.
"Y/N" he muttered, his hand grabbed your wrist softly and you widened your eyes "Stay, please"
You got lost into his eyes again. They had something magnetic, that attracted and locked you in.
His hand cupped your head to pull you closer, and the pressure on your chest turned into a warm feeling when his lips pressed against yours. It was like coming back after a long trip, when you realized just how much you had missed home, and everything was familiar and in its place. You closed your eyes and kissed him back slowly, too into him to even realize what was happening. Ivar broke the kiss and pecked your lips again a couple of times before deepening the kiss. His hand traveled down your back, making you tremble, until it reached your waist. You couldn't remember when was the last time Ivar kissed you like that, not even when the two of you were still together. He caressed your body over the soft fabric of the dress, and you vaguely thought about the wrinkles but realized you didn't even care.
"Ivar" you muttered against his lips "What are you doing?"
He didn't answer, but kissed you again as his fingers fumbled with the zip of your dress.
"You looked so beautiful today" he sighed "I couldn't stand to even think about someone else taking this dress off"
You were going to reply, but his lips on your neck turned what was going to be a dignified reply into a moan. Ivar had that thing, that charm that was too much for you to handle. He knew your weaknesses, your soft spots and what to do to make you melt in his arms. He knew you couldn't resist him, not even if you wanted to.
It was like going back in time, all the thoughts about the breakup, Freydis, Alfred and Hvitserk left your mind as he took the dress off, throwing it to the other side of the room and biting his lip with a smirk when he recognized the underwear. You tugged on his clothes, and the two of you broke the kiss so he could take the shirt and the tie. You sighed when you saw his tattoos again. You has missed him so much, and how his warm skin felt under your fingers, how his body tensed under your touch.
"Can I?" he asked biting your lower lip, his fingers grazed the side of your panties and you closed your eyes in anticipation before nodding.
"Yes" you moaned, moving to straddle him as you took your bra off. Ivar groaned and pushed his hips against you. Finally, his fingers found your sex, and he pressed onto your clit, and when he started rubbing it in circles you started trembling again.
You tried to touch his member, but you could barely move, until he pushed your panties aside and two of his fingers teased your entrance before entering you. The both of you moaned at the same time, and you moved your hips against his hand trying to follow his pace.
"Gods, you look so beautiful" he groaned, his free hand caressed your body and his lips captured one of your nipples. It was too much, and when he pressed his palm against your clit you gasped and your walls clenched around his fingers. But then he stopped, and your moans of pleasure turned into a bothered whine. You opened your eyes to glare at him and he chuckled, shaking his head.
"You're not going to cum until I'm inside of you" he whispered against your neck. You quickly fumbled with his pants, and when you finally freed his hard member Ivar groaned again. You would have loved to return the favor and leave him on the edge, but you couldn't wait, you needed him. You had waited enough.
"Put it in for me, kitten"
You nearly came hearing his voice on your ear, whispering the pet name he used to call you. Your hand clenched around his cock and he rolled his eyes and moaned deeply, letting you enjoy pretending you had the power for a few seconds. Until you pressed his member against your entrance and he grabbed your hips and thrusted into you.
Your mouth widened on a silent moan. It was intense, and Ivar let you adjust to the size before starting moving, but once he started, he couldn't stop. He sat down to kiss you again, and you grabbed his shoulders and his arms when your legs were too weak to support you anymore.
"Ivar" you moaned against his neck "God, Ivar"
"I missed you so much" he muttered, and it sounded like he truly meant it.
You didn't really have time to think whether he meant it or not because the warm tingle on your lower belly was becoming too much. Your walls started clenching around him and his thrust became sloppy. He breathed heavily against your skin.
"I'm not going to last" he whispered again "You're too much"
You had missed this Ivar so much.
You came around him, moaning his name and digging your nails into his back, your body shaking around him and your face hidden into his neck. Ivar came right after you, and he quickly turned his head to fix his ocean eyes into yours, with his pouty and swollen lips parted just before kissing you again, making you sigh and smile, happy for the first time in months.

Brightly Shone The Moon That Night. A Dark-Cream Christmas story.
The following is a slice of life story about my Dark-Cream family at Christmas. It exists in a universe different to @zu-is-here cannon. In this universe positive emotions are not fatal to Shattered so Cross and Dream didn't rush to break the curse. It splits off around 'things will never be the same' or 'the price of happiness'. The twins were created before the last 3 chapters of Dark-Cream were drawn. Any changes to the story or changes to the characters should be accepted as being part of an alternative timeline. Thank you. Enjoy. Original cross and dream belong to jakei95 and joku blog. Original shattered dream belongs to @galacii. This design for shattered is based off the one by @zu-is-here and the Dark-Cream story is also by @zu-is-here. Most of the Story will be under the cut.
"isn't this a bit much?" the gloopy one said, as his partner wrapped a scarf around his neck.
"nope" the former guard replied "can't have you getting frost bite my love"
Dream simply rolled his eyes. "but I can't really get cold? Or even hot for that matter"
"what are you talking about? you're always hot" Cross replied with a sly smile. This earned a confused look from the smaller skeleton, as Cross carefully tied the scarf and gently folded it under Shattered's jacket. Though it became clear to Cross that Dream had twigged what he'd meant a moment later, evident by the creeping gold blush spreading across his face.
The golden guardian playful punched Cross in the shoulder. "Shush you, keep in clean in front of the little ones"
At that Cross couldn't help but smile and turn his head to his two daughters. The two were in their cot, all dressed in snuggly winter clothes, waiting for their Dad's to be done getting ready. Celest was dressed in a cosy jumper with a little bobble hat, while Luna wore a full bodied coat. Their consistent look of confusion and wonder changed into toothless smiles when their dad looked at them. (idk how teething works for skeletons..... Teeth magically form or something......also tbh they should start teething soon) it warmed Cross' soul.
His attention was drawn back to dream by the sound of metal being placed down on wood. He looked to him, seeing that he'd removed his crown band and set down on the bedside table. Dream then sighed and sagged his shoulders. "it.... It feels wrong not having something on my head"
Cross chuckled.
The 4 of them where taking a trip out today. This was something both Dream and Cross had agreed was a good idea.
Cross' eye lights travelled back to the little ones. They seemed so innocent right now, as if recent events hadn't happened. As if the last two weeks hadn't been difficult to get through.
Celest's code had been burning her a lot, to the point where she'd screamed when either of them had tried to hold her, or even touch her. As for Luna, her throat had become clogged with more gloop then ever before. So much Shattered had to use a tentacle to pull some of it out. She had surely been 5 seconds from suffocating.
It had been a fortnight of sleepless nights, screaming babies and a large amount of arguing. The stress of the situation had pushed them very far apart. Many things had been said, old wounds jabbed at, tears shed. But after a lot of long talks they had sorted out each fight. They were a lot stronger then some petty arguments. There was no room in their relationship for emotional strain......not anymore. The two loved each other, it had just been a difficult time.
In recent days, the twins seemed to have recovered to a stable state. Back to the laughing, smiling, Cow lovers. Cross never thought he'd be so happy that they'd started playing with their cow collection again.
After a long talk with his finance, the two concluded that they'd all been stuck in the void space for way to long. Even with the few rooms and furniture, it's not like there was much to do there and a serious cabin fever had developed. So while the twins were in a good place, they had to take the opportunity to spend some time together as a family.
Cross once again looked back at his partner. Only to need to do a double take. Dream was wearing a hat now. A festive white one with golden stripes running across it. It was reminiscent of a classic Santa hat, other then the colours. The fabric had black stains in several places due to where Dream had touched it. Though despite that Cross recognised it all to well. To his dismay, he felt his face slowly get warm. Their first kiss.
He could remember it clearly in his mind, the mistletoe, the hotel, Gaster sniggering in the corner. But mostly, Dream. The sweet, positive skeleton from back then was very different to the one who stood before him now. But he wouldn't have it any other way.
Remembering that day caused his blush to darken. It had truly been one of the most embarrassing, but best days of his life. Though a part of him wondered how Dream still had the hat. After everything, the hat had been saved.
"you've still got that hat?" he said, in a half teasing tone.
Shattered smirked at Cross' flushed face "of course, so many good memories".
A stream of positivity ran through him and with it, it brought a sudden, but expected twinge in his soul. It was a sharp pain, like a knife being slowly pressed in. Dream tried to ignore it but he visually flinched causing Cross to come over.
"positivity again Dreamboat?" he questioned.
Dream nodded "it's alright, I'm used to it" The guardian sensed some sadness from Cross, even if he kept a natural face.
"I'm OK Crossy, promise!"
Cross sighed and gently kissed Shattered's forehead. "if you say so my love"
With that he walked back over to the twins so that he could get their carriers. Dream sighed slightly. It was strange seeing Cross in an outfit different to his guard uniform. So much so that Dream already kind of missed it, not that Cross didn't look handsome is what he was currently wearing.
The last time the family had left the void to go shopping, (which is really a story in itself) they had been stared at from all angles. Every man, women and child. Monster or human, had taken part in watching them. Like animals in a zoo. Cross had insisted that it was the twins they were staring at, since his children were so beautiful that of course people would stare. But in the end both him and Dream knew the real reason.
They were staring at them.
He couldn't really blame them though, how often do you come across a monster with heterochromia wearing what was best described as fancy dress, accompanied by a slime covered skeleton in heels and a crown? Many things had changed since the apple incident, but people staring as he passed had not.
Today they both wanted a peaceful day with their babies, so they had opted to wear more normal clothes. Cross had traded his normal cape and jacket for a puffy white winter coat which he wore a red jumper under. Dream had opted for something similar, though a deep brown colour as to not show the stains so much. It felt odd being in a new outfit, but also very nice. There was only so long someone could take being in tight trousers and shirts with big collars.
The former guard straightened up, clutching a harness in his hands.
"these were definitely a good buy" he said, as he walked back to Dream.
Dream raised an eyebrow "did you really 'Buy' them Cross?" he said is a inquisitive tone.
Cross' body tensed and his partner gave him an sharp stare. Even without his emotion sensing ability, Dream could read Cross like a book.
"uhhhhhhh.......yes?"
"sure" Dream replyed, with slight amusement in his voice.
A nervous chuckle came from Cross. "look they were a good thing to get ok?....... Very helpful for the little ones"
Dream gave him an unsure nod. He still wasn't exactly well versed in child care, so he wasn't really sure what these harnesses where even for yet. Since he figured that the answer was probably obvious, he didn't ask.
"want me to help you get it on?" Cross asked, raising an eyebrow. Shattered wasn't the only one who could easily read his partner.
Shattered said nothing but nodded. His golden blush reappeared when Cross started to run his hands across and around his body to get the harness into place. His soul gave a tiny learch for a moment, but not one of pain.
He knew there was a part of him that wanted Cross to touch his soul again, It had been such a close experience for them both and had brought about a lot of pleasurable feelings. It was truly something he wanted to experience again. A feeling he almost craved. But he knew all to well, as his eye sockets fixed onto the cot to his right, that the potential consequences made it impossible. He was just going to have to live with these unmet desires. Just as he was sure that Cross lived with similar ones.
"there all done"
Dream jumped. Snapped out of his thoughts by his future husband's voice.
Now the harness was all attached. Not too tight, but not too lose. He could see that he now had a pocket on his chest which he guessed the baby sat in. Clever. It was kind of like a kangaroo pouch.
Cross strapped a identical carrier around his own chest and walked over to the babies cot to collect his daughters.
Luna smiled wide at the sight of him. The older skeleton matched her smile and slowly picked his child up. Luna giggled and kicked her tiny feet out as he did. Her tentacle flickered around the corners of her mouth as she laughed. Cross could feel his own joy fill him at the sight. But he nullified it for his partner's sake.
Speaking of which, he turned back to Dream.
"you wanna take Celly or Lu Lu?" he asked.
"I'll take Luna" the smaller skeleton replied "since you are already holding her". He held his arms out in an awkward, slightly unsure way.
Cross gave a soft, knowing smile "Its OK Dreamboat, I'll help you get her in the carrier"
Shattered sighed, irritated by his own incompetence and nodded.
With that Cross carefully attempted to slip the wriggling baby into her carrier. Which wasn't easy, as she cheerfully shifted her legs around. In fact Cross had a slightly hard time keeping hold of her.
After much difficulty, Cross managed to feed her legs through the leg holes and sit her safely inside. The whole time, Dream remained mostly still, he didn't want to do anything in case he ended up hurting Luna.
Once she was buckled in, Cross took a slow step back to admire his handy work. Luna bounced excitedly in her carrier and her Papa looked almost comically uncomfortable by all her movement.
"do you want me to take her Day Dream?" Cross said, upon noticing Dreams unease around the wiggling baby. Dream shook his head "no, its fine" he replied as he relaxed his shoulders. "you get Celest and we can go"
Cross gave a nod and turned back to the cot. As he went to pick up his slightly younger daughter, he noticed that she had in fact fallen asleep. Cross sighed - not again....
For most parents, the time when the children slept was a time of bliss, and after a fortnight of little sleep, Cross almost agreed. But his child had a habit of falling asleep suddenly and for long periods. Dream had told him that when this happened her energy levels were low, showing that her body couldn't regulate itself fully.
With another sigh, Cross carefully picked up the sleeping baby and slipped her into the carrier. It was very hard to wake her when she was like this, but he was still extra careful. Not waking a sleeping baby was basically a universal law, though he would have to if she was asleep to long. After double checking that she was safely inside and her head was supported, he walked back over to Dream.
"any particular preference for an au Dream boat?" he asked
Shaking his head, Dream replied "Not really, just try and get a pacifist timeline"
With a nod, Cross extended his arm. There was a spark of magic at his figure tips and his knife materialised. He dragged it through the air in a fluid motion, as he did it split the air as if it where a piece of cloth. It was a causal splitting of space and time. Simple.
Luna watched her dad with a look of wonder. Her silver eyes where wide and bright.
"gahhhhh daaaaag" she cooed and reached for him.
Cross glanced back at her with a smile "just you wait Princess, when you are older I'll teach you how to do this"
These words hung heavily in the air for a moment, as Cross carefully finished opening the portal. The same thing was on both Cross and Dreams minds.
If you get older.
With a sigh and a snap of his fingers, the knife was gone and the portal was open.
"After you" Cross said, stooping into a slight bow and winking at his fiancé.
Dream covered his mouth with his hand and fake giggled. "Oh what a gentleman" he said with a large smile across his face before walking forward and entering the portal.
The first thing that hit Dream as he reached the other side, was a cold crisp breeze. The chill made him feel grateful that he was wearing his boots, even if they were old and an obnoxious shade of yellow.
The breeze blew lightly causing Luna to shiver. There was no wind in there home, so this brought a welcome change to Shattered. He took a deep breath into his non existent lungs.
It was evening. Strange? He figured that their sense of time must have been thrown out a little. They did live in a void after all. However it was a pleasant evening, with sky littered with stars and a full moon.
Shattered allowed himself to bask in the fresh air for a while, as he heard footsteps behind him and the portal close.
"Oh it's good to be outside again" came Cross' voice from behind.
With a nod, Shattered turned around to face his partner. Luna wriggled more in her carrier, looking around at all the new things she'd never seen before.
"someone is excited" Cross said, leaning down and kissing his daughter on the forehead. She giggled and very nearly headbutt him as he did. Chuckling, he pulled away.
The guard looked around "looks like we're in a small town... If I had to guess its the surface"
The two of them started to look around, trying to find something to engage with. It wasn't long before they spotted something.
Both skeletons attention was caught by something in the near distance. A large crowd of people. Among them were people in hats, jumpers and coats, carrying bags and cups of hot drinks. A vast amount of stalls and stands were among them, not to mention fur trees in fancy dress and lights. Hundreds and hundreds of lights.
"a Christmas Market!" Dream said, his voice hinting an excitement "I've never been to one! I forgot that it was this time of the year"
His excitement felt like a balloon filling inside him. Only to be burst when his soul gave a sting inside his ribs.
But Dream couldn't help but feel a little happy, this was such a good thing to come across, perfect for their trip out.
Cross tilted his head "how do you know what Christmas is my love? It's more of a human custom".
"well that's easy" Dream said, a slight smugness in his voice at the fact he seemed more knowledgeable then Cross about something.
"Christmas is a time where positive emotions take hold, even in the darkest of times, positively rules here"
He eye lit up slightly as he spoke. Even if Dream was corrupted, and technically not the positivity guardian anymore, he was still happy to talk about it. It reminded him of easier times.
"as the former positively guardian it was only natural for me to learn about the festival...." his voice turned somba for a moment "Heaven taught me...... remember?"
There was another heaviness in the air at those words. A unspoken guilt and regret and then a thought. Dream now possessed the very power that had killed him.....
The gloopy one sighed and straightened the baby carrier. Luna gurgled as he did so.
"he would have loved to meet these two wouldn't he" he spoke, his voice twisting in its somba state.
"yeah... But it's ok" the guard replied, taking Dreams hand.
"in a way, he is here" he said in a soft tone, running his finger across Dreams ring. A smile ran across his face before he realised Shattered's hand.
After a short moment of silence they were disturbed by a soft noise. Celest had woken from her sleep. She wriggled and shifted against Cross' chest, her tiny voice gurgling.
"Nice of you to join the party Sweet pea" Cross said, upon noticing.
"we should probably get going, before she falls asleep again" Dream stated in reply. Cross nodded.
The family started to walk together towards the market. As they approached the air was filled with the smell of food and the sound of cheesy pop songs. The emotions of the people around them where starting to fill in.
The first thing that Dream felt was a lot of emotion around him. He was going to need to take a moment to get used to it. From what he could feel it was primarily positive, but then he felt something else.
To his right he felt anger and frustration. That wasn't the kind of thing that he expected this time of year, so he turned his head slightly. There was a human and a monster stood in the huddle.
He caught a few words of what they were saying.
"typical every year you leave gift buying to the last minute" said one.
"it's not completely last minute" said the other.
"it's the 23rd! How is that not last-" and then he was out of ear shot.
"23rd?" Shattered said to himself "huh.... It was my birthday 2 days ago". He counted on his fingers for a moment, trying to figure out how old that made him.
"it was!? Oh my goodness that's right!" came a voice from his side. It was slight panic from Cross. Uh oh.
Dream waved his hands in a jazz hand fashion "woah woah woah, before you go flying off the handle, we both didn't realise-
"I'm so sorry my love!"
Shattered groaned. Here we go.
"I can't believe I forgot! I'll make it up to yo-
Dream cut Cross off with a peak on the teeth. Cross jumped and his face flushed.
"......... Cross, I'm going to have hundreds more birthdays... Its OK if we skip one" the guardian whispered before nuzzling his gloopy face against him. "presides.... We had more important things to worry about"
As if on que both twins cooed.
A little smile creeped on to Cross' face. Dream mirrored it.
"now let's stop standing here go to the market" he held his hand out "it's waiting for us".
With a soft smile, Cross took his hand and they started walking again. It wasn't long before they finally reached the market.
The market was busy.
Both humans and monsters were walking around, talking happily. Children of all ages were rushing around with chocolates in their hands and candy canes in their mouths. Positive emotions were swirling like the snow in the wind. A warm blend of joy, song and family.
The smells of cakes and and pies were everywhere. Hot wine, ginger, cinnamon, dried fruit and nuts. Coffee, chutney, jams and cheeses.
For Dream it was like being spun in a giant bath of spice. The smells did not help his developing headache. There where positive emotions everywhere, every angle.
He let go of his partner's hand and stumbled slightly. The emotions were threatening to make him collapse as they came at all sides. Being in a void space for so long meant he'd gotten used to only Cross' emotions being around. But now there must have been 100 people at lest.
With the surrounding area becoming a blur, the sky and ground became one and he felt something hit his back and press it.
After a moment of silence he could hear the sound of a baby crying from off in the distance. Someone was calling his name but he could hardly hear it as the crying baby got closer. But eventually both got clearer.
"Dream! Dream are you OK!? Can you hear me?"
It was Cross.
"C.... Cross?" he said, looking for his partner's face. He eventually found it, hovering above him.
"why....." he said reaching his heavy arm up "why are you flying?"
The former guard gave him a confused expression. A moment later, Dream realised that the pressure on his back was in fact the floor and he was laying on it.
"you collapsed" said Cross with a pained expression. Cross' worry and stress washed over Dream and snapped him back to reality. The crying baby was very close. In fact it was coming from his chest.
Dream pushed himself onto his elbows and looked down. Luna was crying and wriggling in her carrier.
"oh.... OH!" Shattered said as a sudden and huge instinct hit him. Something he'd not really felt up till this point. Caring not about his state, he pulled her out of the carrier and rocked her in his arms.
"shhhh shhh it's ok, I'm sorry sweetheart, are you hurt?"
If Dream hadn't just collapsed, Cross would have felt happy at the sight of him comforting Luna. The tiny skeleton quieted down, but her non-existent lip was still trembling. Shattered inspected her, happy not to find any marks that would indicate she'd been hurt by the fall. Probably just scared.
"what happened my love?" came Cross' voice again.
"emotions" Dream bluntly responded, before attempting to get to his feet. He hadn't gotten far when he felt his partners hands grip his and help him pull up. He'd barely just gotten to his feet when things started to blur again and his head started to once again throb.
He fell forward slightly into Cross' chest, the guard put his arms around him to support him and keep him steady. He had to be careful to make sure the babies didn't get squished.
Cross' fiancé give out a low, pained groan and Luna give a wine of discomfort.
"Keep hold of her Dreamboat, I'll find somewhere where you can sit down" he softly said, looking around to find a seat. Luckily he spotted a park bench not to far from them.
Cross slowly and gently guided Dream backwards until Dream's legs brushed against the bench and he was able to slowly sit down. He sank his weight against the wooden frame, his limbs felt heavy and his head felt horrible. After a short time he started to adjust. Feeling himself coming back into reality, Shattered adjusted his hold on Luna to make sure he didn't drop her. Cross kneeled in front of them both.
"we can always go home if it's to much for you"
Immediately Dream shock his head, which he regretted a second later as the dizziness ramped.
"no Crossy, we both agreed we needed some time out of the void. ...im sorry that I'm ruining it"
The tall skeleton lightly gripped Dreams shoulders and looked him dead in the eyes.
"you are not ruining anything"
He kissed the bridge of Dreams nose.
"you have made everything in my life better, don't forget that"
A smile ghosted Shattered's face at those words.
"you know.... You're blind, unconditional love for me is really cheesy" he said, his smile turning into a smirk.
"I do try"
The couple shared a laugh and Dream felt himself feel a bit better. He didn't feel great though. The emotions around him where still dizzying.
Behind Cross he could see the market. It truly did look like fun and he felt bad that he'd soured the mood. He continued to rock Luna and she turned around in his arms to burry her face into his chest.
"you should....." Shattered paused as another wave of dizziness hit him "You should go ahead of me, I'll catch up"
"Absolutely not" Cross stated firmly "I will not leave you, I refuse"
"Cross" Dream said in an equally as firmly manner "I can look after myself for 10 minutes, it will be fine..... I want you to go have some fun"
The guard's expression softened and he stood up again, running his hand across the back of his skull unsurely as he did. "I.... I don't know"
Dream rested Luna in his lap and reached his hands out, Cross took them.
"Cross, I want you to go ahead, I'll join you soon, I promise"
Letting go of Dreams hands, Cross sighed. "Alright..... But I'll come back in 15 minutes, if you are still here then we are going home"
Dream nodded slowly "Deal"
After a few more unsure moments Cross started to back away from Dream. He went slowly in order to give Dream time to tell him to stop. After he didn't, Cross turned and walked in the direction of the market.
As Shattered watched Cross walk into the market, he felt his daughter start to fuss in his arms. His golden eye travelled down to her again. She looked a bit confused or upset. Her emotions weren't developed enough to be easily readable by Shattered. But from what he could sense she was distressed by her dad walking away.
He looked back at Cross again, as the guard inspected what seemed to be a stand of various pastries and cakes. There was a sad, yet nostalgic smile on his face.
Shattered watched as he exchanged some words with the vendor and took Celest's little hand and waved it. Clearly he was introducing them. The vendor seemed to coo at the baby a little and Cross straightened up proudly. Probably bragging about something cute Celest had done recently.
After a few more words he put some coins on the counter and was handed a paper bag, containing what Dream had to assume was a pastry of some kind. He waved good bye to the vendor and started to walk away.
As he did, he took his food item out of its bag and went to take a bite. He locked eyes with Dream mid-bite and gave him a slight deer in the headlights look. After finishing taking his bite, he smiled and waved to his lover. Dream waved back.
It was clear from Cross' expression that whatever he was eating was very tasty and it caused Dream to wonder how much food Cross was going to buy tonight.
Luna fussed again as her father and sister got further away.
Luna and Celest had been almost inseparable since day one, Shattered was still a little unnerved by it. They were always most comfortable when together. Knowing this, Dream told himself that Luna was fussing because she was parted from her sister. But another thought came to him.
What if she was sad about Cross leaving?
It was a stupid thing to think, both babies had been apart from Cross before and not responded this way. Yet the thought wouldn't leave him. It was the kind of thought that bounces around your head and burrows into you the moment you try to forget it.
The first time he left them with me for an extended period of time, I'd tried to....
A chill ran over him followed by a long twang of guilt, which caused him to tighten his grip on his daughter. Cross still didn't know about that night and he wasn't sure he could ever tell him. What was wrong with him? He acted like he cherished them these days (or at lest most days), but how could he when he'd thought of doing such a thing? When all he'd felt upon seeing them for the first time was nothing. His eyes stung and threatened to start crying. In that moment he felt tempted to call Cross back and have him wrap his arms around him. But he couldn't. Not while Cross didn't know.
"I'm sorry that I'm not the best parent to you Mi hija"
The words left his mouth as barely even a whisper. They sounded if he'd not been aware he said them. As if he'd not fully intend to say them out loud. His throat was dry and his soul was burning and twisting.
Cross says you are getting better.
One part of him said
But who's to say they will live to see you be better?
He answered to himself.
He felt the fabric of his jacket get tugged slightly. This drew his attention back to Luna.
She had turned in his arms slightly and was looking up at him with wide eyes. If Shattered hadn't known better, he'd have thought he could sense her worrying. Her tiny fist was curled in the fabric of his coat.
"paaaaaa gaa?"
Dream sighed.
"I get a lot of things wrong..... And I'm going to keep getting things wrong, I might be wrong most of the time"
The former guardian continued to speak in a near whisper, his finger stroking the tiny creature's cheek.
"but I'm going to get some things right as well...... And I'll make a deal with you"
Luna's face scrunched up a little. It was almost amusing to see, as if she was thinking really hard.
"if you and your sister keep on fighting, I'll keep on trying" Luna turned her face into his hand and chewed his glove.
"if you stick around long enough, you'll see a day when I get things right most of the time.... You want to see that right?"
"maaaaaa"
"deal?"
"gahhh gahh"
Dream laughed slightly "I'll take that as a yes"
He looked away from her again. Cross had completely disappeared from his view now, probably off stuffing chocolates. Since Dream wasn't someone who needed to eat, he didn't fully understand, but the sweet and warm smells in the air were very pleasant. He'd not eaten a thing for at least two and a half years, maybe he could try a little something. Carefully he slipped the tiny skeleton back into her carrier and fastened her in.
"Should we go check out the market mi pequeña estrella?" he asked, finally getting back to his feet. His daughter gave a gurgle of approval.
"then let's go shall we"
The atmosphere of the market was all together jolly. As he walked into the heart of it, his head throbbed again, but he didn't feel dizzy. He'd adjust to it fully soon.
Despite what he would want to admit, he felt a very slight anxiety without Cross by his side. He was in no way dependent on Cross, but he was so used to having him near, it was strange to have him absent. To not be able to feel his energy or be able to hold his hand.
No Dream! He thought. Don't be such a baby.
He patted his daughters head with his hand absentmindedly, feeling the fabric of her bow slip down slightly as he did. She giggled and a smile creeped onto Dreams face as she did.
A stand caught his eye. It was a stall of what seemed to be jewellery. As many of the stalls were, it was adorned with colourful lights and decorations of all shapes. Though this one in particular stood out to him. He wasn't sure why, but he decided to approach it.
The monster running the stand stiffened as he approached, but he paid it no mind. He could see the jewellery much closer now. Each piece seemed unique and hand made. There were bracelets, earrings, rings and necklaces, shimmering in all different colours. He greatly enjoyed looking over each individual piece, until his eye socket landed on one.
It was a necklace. Gold, set with a blueish purple stone. There was a small crescent charm on the chain as well. Dream stared at it and knitted his eyebrows. For a moment he wasn't sure why it caught his eye. But as he moved his hand up and traced his thumb across the stone, he realised. He then retracted his hand is if he'd been shocked. He stepped back and folded his hands together, but his sight remained locked on it.
Where are you? Are you even still alive?
A long sigh left his mouth as he forced himself to think of something else. But as he turned to walk away, he glanced at it again. It was almost like he couldn't bare to leave it.
I'm being silly, I'm a man, why would I need a necklace anyway?
With that, he tore his eyes away and proceeded to the next stand. As before the monster running it tensed slightly.
This vendor was selling what seemed to be plastic toys and figures. These weren't home made and seemed to be just the same old toys you could buy anywhere. There was doll house items, human figures and animals. He was so busy looking over the collection, that he didn't notice as his daughter reached for her favourite animal. He was only alerted to what she was doing by a slobbery squish sound.
She had suck the head of the toy into her mouth and was chewing on it.
"Luna no!" Shattered said "I don't want to have to buy that"
Carefully his pulled the plastic cow from his daughters mouth. A thin trail of a mix between gloop and saliva followed it. He had no idea how one baby could produce so much spit so fast. He wiped some off on his coat, but it didn't come close to cleaning it. Yeah....... he was going to have to buy it. He had a small purse of gold coins that Cross had given him. He hadn't asked where Cross had gotten the coins, it was probably best not to.
As he handed it to the seller and asked for the price, the slimy coating ran onto his fingers. Yuck. Not that he could really talk though, he was almost completely covered in something worse.
Dream expected to feel anger or disgust come from the stall owner. But instead he could only sense fear. His eye locked with the eyes of the monster behind the counter. It didn't take long for him to realise. Cross might have treated him like he was the most beautiful and sweet skeleton in the multiverse, but that didn't stop his appearance from being...... Striking at best.
He grimaced and handed the monster the money he owed and took back the toy.
"have a nice evening" he said, trying to sound friendly.
"y-you too sir.... Merry Christmas"
He turned away from the stall and walked back into the market. After inspecting the toy to make sure there was nothing small that she could choke on he handed it back to Luna. She happy put it back in her mouth, flicking his hand with her mouth tentacle as she did.
Shattered felt a burst of joy from his daughter, which made him light headed for a moment. After collecting his bearings he smiled.
"Adorable idiot" he said leaning over and kissing the top of her head. "now let's go find Daddy shall we?"
It wasn't a market that was too large, just a fair amount of stalls and stands and a handful of people. There was no doubt that he and Cross stood out, so it shouldn't be to hard to find his partner.
If I where cross.... Where would I go?
The answer came to his mind not even a second after asking it.
Chocolate...
As he'd noted before, there was a vast amount of edibles all around him. Mostly foods of the sweet variety, commonly fruity cakes and pies. But it wasn't long till he saw what he wanted. Out of the corner of his eye socket, he spotted what he was looking for. Just as he'd expected, chocolate.
Humans and normal monsters, seemed to be fascinated in forming chocolate into many different shapes. Animals, people, stars and bells. Shattered supposed that they got more pleasure consuming the sweet substance when it involved biting the head off of a defenceless reindeer, or mutilating a Santa or two.
He approached the stall of chocolate items. It was a pleasant smell, reminding him strongly of Cross' coat. There was no doubt the guard would have come here. He just had to find him.
Meanwhile, as Shattered looked for him, his mate was busy in a hearty conversation with his daughter.
The guard slipped a snowflake shaped chocolate into his mouth, having finished off the pastry long ago.
"now what should be get for Papa as a late birthday present hmm?" he asked Celest as she blew a spit bubble. "Something simple, you know he doesn't like flashy things"
Celest continued to blow a spit bubble and watched it as it expanded. "why is it that he must be so difficult to shop for....
His voice trailed off as he continued to ponder the question. What to get someone who didn't like material things. Other then his scarf, his ring and his crown, Dream never held onto things. Maybe he could get him a new accessory, like a new piece of jewellery or something. He continued to think and slipped another chocolate into his mouth. As he did this, without him noticing, the tiny skeleton had popped the spit bubble and was now reaching for the candy cane sticking out of his shopping bag full of goodies. She grabbed it and without hesitation, plunged the bright stripped stick into her mouth without a care.
After not even a second her face screwed up and she recoiled. She let out a wine of regret and disgust, which alerted Cross that she was distressed.
"No sweetie , that's pepper mint" the guard sighed, plucking the now sticky candy from his daughters hands. He put it on the counter of the stand they were stood next to. A stall selling Christmas fauna such as Holly, pinecones and mistletoe.
As he set the candy down, he saw daughters face still looked unhappy. "that must have tasted horrible" he said, dabbing the spit from around her mouth with his sleeve.
"we'll get you some nice warm milk when we get home ok?" he said in a baby voice, bouncing her slightly to try and cheer her up. It worked and she giggled. Cross sighed in relief, crisis averted.
He thought back to his question about presents. About Dream. It had been a little while since he'd left him. It would probably be a good idea to go back.
"Now if you are done sampling my treat bag Celly, maybe we should go check on-
"hey" came a voice from up close to his left. He jumped. After a second he realised he recognised the voice and turned to meet Dreams gaze, some chocolate still on his cheek. He was about to say something about how it was go to see that Dream was feeling better, when Dream spoke.
"wanna prove you aren't just a 20g wager?" the golden guardian said, with a slightly sly smile.
For a moment Cross was confused. Had the emotions caused his partner to go loopy? Before he could ask, Dream pointed his finger upwards. Feeling more confused, Cross glanced up. He could now see that they were in fact stood under a mistletoe. Quite a few actually. The sight of the white berried plant made his cheeks flush. He'd fallen right into Dream's trap. How had he not noticed.
He swallowed what was left of the snowflake the chocolate in his mouth "uhh um.... Uh"
He locked eyes with Dream again, finding that he'd taken a step closer. Taking a gloved hand and cupping Cross' cheek, he said.
"I'll take that as a yes"
With that he gently pulled Cross' face closer, till the gap was closed between them with a soft kiss. Cross' soul fluttered as Dream leaned in more to kiss him stronger. The taste of chocolate in his mouth was soon replaced with the flavour of bitter apple sauce. But he didn't mind it, he much liked apple sauce. Unfortunately the kiss wasn't long lived. The two were forced to separate after feeling their daughters starting to fuss, since they were being pressed between them. Dream stepped back slightly, giving his children room and took a breath of winter air. The euphoria from the kiss surged through him, as it had been a while since they had and therefore felt really good.
In fact, It had been a while since they'd done a lot of things. Including telling Cross that he........... That's something he needed to fix and fix straight away. His eyes locked on Cross.
"Te quiero, mi soldado" Dream said, with his face dusting gold. He looked away and pulled his scarf over his face slightly.
Cross returned his blush and smiled "yo tambien Te quiero, mi sol"

The most sweetest thing(Yandere Trey x reader)
Thank you to @swirly-writes for sending me yandere prompt from which I gained my inspiration
BAKERY BOIS BIRTHDAY! NO DENIAL IN SAYING HE'S MY FAVORITE IN HEARTSBYUL!😍🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂
A new bakery opened up in town, it's popularity sky risen in a short amount of time. It was known for its sweets that taste like another food entirely. An astounding feet something that no one could understand how he did it, almost like magic.
Said baker and owner named Trey Clover was deemed a master at what he did. His smiles toward customers who would enter where his pearly white teeth would show had any girl fall for him instantly. He wouldn't pay them any mind though, he was only focused on making his bakery a success that was until he met someone that changed his goal.
It wasn't as crowded in the morning when he first opens the shop. No one would come in until about three hours later. That is until one day she did.
Her name was Y/n who was beautiful in looks standards but with an expression of apathy on her face you'd think she was nothing more than a doll. Trey had heard her enter with the bell above the door alerting him and immediately went to the counter to serve her.
At first he was surprised seeing such a beautiful young lady enter his shop, he couldn't even deny the blush that was visible on his face. Something about her seemed off though as he examined her for a quick second he noticed how empty she looked. He didn't know why but it did make him a bit curious.
When he caught himself staring for awhile he cleared his throat a little and put on his best smile.
"Hello, Ms. Is there something I can get you?"
"A slice of cake."
"And what would you like it to taste like?"
"Nothing the way it is would be just fine."
This answer actually surprised him seeing as people come here for desserts that taste like whole other foods. No one ever asks for the things he makes himself without the help of his magic.
His bewildered expression didn't go unnoticed by the female in front of him as she thought about how easily his expression changed with her order. She assumed he didn't get orders like hers often.
"Ah, coming right up Ms."
He wouldn't admit it but he was actually giddy for once like he wanted to be famous for his sweets in general, he did run a bakery after all. He served it to her and she ate it inside the small cafe like place.
He actually pretended to clean the counters while she indulged herself with the blank expression she came in with. He couldn't deny the anxiety pounding in his heart when he saw the fork come up to her lips as she took a bite.
That's when he saw it. A small smile grace her angelic features. He was sure it was real and rare at that, but he couldn't believe nor get it out of his head. From that day forward she started to come in around opening time and Trey would anticipate meeting with her. She would order different sweets all tasting how Trey would make it and bringing a smile to her face that Trey would long to see. Energizing him every morning and keeping him eager to see the sun rise on the next day.
After about the first five meetings with him she gave him her name, Y/n L/n. As nice as it sounded to roll off his tongue hearing her repeat his name was far more appealing. They would now exchange more conversations with one another in the mornings that was barren and empty with no other customers. She would wait for Trey to make a sweet she had asked for that he didn't have in stock already which left some time to conversate.
She actually brought up how he didn't mention her emotional detachment not once.
"Everyone has their reasons for who they are I wouldn't want you to have to explain yourself just for the sake of my curiosity."
"Th -thank you." That's the first time he heard her stutter before, he found it cute.
"To be honest I really like your sweets, they are divine, and I can't help but feel happy when I eat them." Her words offered Trey to chuckle a little seeing a small smile on Y/n's face he could feel his heart beat faster.
So he responded with,
"Keep smiling like that. It makes my heart happy."
🥳🥳🥳 . 🥳🥳🥳 . 🥳🥳🥳 .🥳🥳
Of course not all good things come to an end. Trey had gotten closer with Y/n and knew she was not the apathetic girl he first saw, he was able to decipher her feelings a lot better. She was shy, kind, polite, and virtually loved his sweets. With how she was raised by a high classed family that undermines women expressing themselves he could understand the general picture of why she had an apathetic look on her face half the time.
It did anger him to some extent but at the same time if he had seen her smile so often it wouldn't be so precious as when he had first met her. The fact that she likes his desserts for what they are also stood out to him as what made her different. There were so many things Trey could list in his head that would entail why he had fallen for the lovely lady that entered his shop every morning.
At this point he was head over heels for her awaiting to bake any treat the girl asked for the very next day. Until she didn't come one morning and that had him worried.
'What could possibly be holding her from coming here? She never misses a day.'
Questions and inquiries ran through Trey's head, running a hand through his green hair throughout the morning up until he heard the bell ring. It caught his attention except it wasn't her, it was just a normal group of customers that came a few hours after the store opened. He hadn't realized how long he had been standing there.
It was going to be a long day.
. 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 .🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 .🥳🥳🥳🥳
Finally the day was almost done, at least in Trey's head he praised being able to close the store. His mind was still running rampant on not seeing the sweet angel that would bless his morning with a ray of sunshine and motivate him to move on with the day.
He sighed with exhaustion seeing as everyone always ordered their dessert to taste different which meant no breaks on using his magic.
As he pushed up his glasses the little bell above the door leading in rang again. He took a breath and plastered on a fake smile to hide his exhaustion. It was a couple that came in, he couldn't hide his shock though when he saw the female paired with a man.
She didn't look happy as she did the previous morning with anticipation to try his sweets. Instead she had the expressionless face that she usually had except it looked more sad. Trey had gotten better at reading her emotions often over the course of their encounters. She was wearing an expensive dress which contrasted with her casual clothing. Of course Trey thought she looked stunning, but the look on her face wasn't making it very complete.
He didn't realize he was staring for a while as the couple had already stopped at the counter. The man cleared cleared his throat obnoxiously and Trey could already tell he was someone already unfavorable to him.
"What would you like sir?"
When he ordered Trey had to try hard not to let his smile falter, clenching his fists behind the counter in agitation. He took a quick glance over at Y/n who had avoided his gaze and looked as though she was repressing a frown for an empty look instead. It was like she was pretending not to know him which he couldn't deny did sting quite a bit. Trey being the calculating person he is went along with the charade as he deduced it had to do something with the man next to her.
"And for you Ms.?" As soon as the man had finished he glanced over at Y/n and secretly winked at her.
"Ah, for her just a dark coffee is fine. You've look like you've been gaining more weight recently which is unbecoming of you my dear fiancee. So make it taste like a salad please."
Trey couldn't help but looked toward Y/n who looked like she wanted to speak but shut her mouth immediately after opening. It definitely rubbed him the wrong way, not only was this guy arrogant and rude, he blatantly insulted his angel on her weight of all things when she looked as though she hadn't gained anything. Not only that but he was going to be married to her! The world was unfair and hell had frozen over with such a man like that Trey could only imagine how miserable Y/n already was by the look on her face. She always loved his sweets and only ordered that when she came, and he would always adore the smile adorned on her face that would shine light brighter than a sunrise in the Afterglow Savanna.. He decided to at least try and speak up for her.
"Excuse me sir but that doesn't look like what your fiancee wanted to order." The venom in his voice when he mentioned her partnership with the man was clear as day.
"I don't recall asking for your opinion sir, I choose what's best for my future wife she is one of a kind in her looks and I want to keep it that way." Trey's entire body flinched seething with rage as he stayed in his place and smile visibly twitched into a frown.
He did learn to keep his mouth shut and have patience, if serving under the former dorm leader back in his NRC school years taught him anything it was that first and foremost losing your cool wouldn't do any good.
He apologized maintaining a cool facade before going to the kitchen. Where he could quietly say a few profanities to himself. As he did almost finished the order with all that was left being to change the taste with his magic, he considered changing the flavor the man had ordered on her coffee.
With a wave of his pen it tasted just like the cakes she'd ask for on the usual mornings. Serving their food to them both he kept his golden eyes on her reaction when she tasted it.
Her eyes did in fact widen with shock not expecting sweetness to touch her tongue afterall. It caught the attention of the young man who had asked her what was wrong. She quickly fixed the look on her face to go back to expressionless.
"Nothing it just amazes, the amount of talent this baker has. It really does taste different." Her words were enough to send his heart up in the air like fireworks.
He could see the light coming back in her eyes again. It gave him life he cherished it and begun to crave it.
🥳🥳🥳 . 🥳🥳🥳 . 🥳🥳🥳
Over the next couple of days the same routine occurred. She'd come in with her husband to be and he'd ask for different things. All at different times of the day though, that part wasn't consistent. Trey believed he was hoping for Y/n to gain more interest in eating healthier even though Y/n told him when she came to the bakery it was her first time eating sweets.
He did notice over the pass few days even with him secretly changing the taste to something sweet her eyes were getting duller. She no longer smiled like she once did before.
So once he heard yelling outside his shop before closing time after yet another day, he took a peek through the glass windows near the entrance. It was Y/n and that man with not a single soul to be seen. Except her eyes were beyond what is considered life like.
It was emotionless and still empty would be a better definition. The man was yelling at her, he couldn't hear why but it didn't matter. She heard a few brief words about her not wanting to marry him and the situation was easily pieced together in Trey's mind.
He saw the man's rage and his own was overflowing. Not to mention when he came inside and he finally saw her. Still in a beautiful dress, but with a bruise on her cheek. He was about a second from killing the man across from him.
Trey was a gentleman meaning he'd never hit a lady even if they cheated or whatever the case. He didn't have to do any of that because she denied his marriage. More than likely she was quiet and shy when she told the man.
Lucky for Trey he was just given even more of a reason to kill him. Pretending everything to be fine when he ordered. As Trey went in the kitchen yet again he changed up his usual ingredients for a few more deadlier ones.
It didn't take long for the one of the two to fall asleep peacefully and the other to have a face full of cake taking his last bite of anything he'll ever eat again. Might as well make good use of all NRC has taught him afterall.
🥳🥳🥳 . 🥳🥳🥳 . 🥳🥳🥳 .
"Oh, I see your up." A pleased smile came on to his face as he walked into the upstairs room of the bakery.
She sat up from the bed she was resting in still feeling her mind hazy and the bruise on her cheek aching.
"Trey? What happened where's Dylan and-" She was already wide awake and asking for information on what had occurred.
"Whoa, whoa, calm down I talked to him and he said he'll cut off the marriage. Okay? I managed to convince him since he loves to come here to eat so much I gave him a recipe he wouldn't forget. 'He was going to make millions off of it', so he said. He had no need for your families riches anymore."
"Wha? But that doesn't make much sense." She was trying hard to process the information but the headache she had made it hard.
"Hey it's okay, it's okay. I know it's a lot to process you passed out from the shock so I kept you here overnight." He said trying to take her mind off the situation.
"I know this isn't the best time but here I know how much you wanted another slice." Before he could hand it to her she hugged him tightly to where he almost fell and dropped the cake while he was at it.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you Trey! Your the most sweetest person to do something like this just for me." She even had tears in her eyes. She really didn't like Dylan apparently. That made him happy at the very least.
"Don't mention it, I'm just happy to see your okay. Why don't you stay here for the day all the shock must have drained you. Not to mention that bruise has got to heal. You can have sweets anytime of the day you want." His heart was hammering in his chest and his face had turned up the heat like an oven. This reaction was far more than he expected but he wasn't unhappy about it.
He saw the sparkles of life in her eyes when he mentioned sweets. Chuckling to himself he handed her the slice of cake.
Seeing her take a bite of it always did bring him hapiness. He would have to give her a sedative toward dinner time and reexplain the all the false information again since her and her former husband to be was considered missing. They were supposed to come into the bakery but Trey feigned innocence when the authorities asked if they had come in. It would be fine though. He made a whole bunch of different treats with drug inducing forgetfulness just for her.
All he cared about now was protecting her smile. He admired her smile from afar seeing it as the most sweetest thing he'd never get tired of.

Oh vay, he's gay!
Fran has her eye set on Christopher Lee who is a single rich business man and also gay.
No warnings
Requested by @christopherleefan I hope you like it! 😄
"Good morning everyone!" Fran exclaimed happily as usual as she entered the dining room where her boss, Maxwell Sheffield and his children were already eating breakfast.
"Mhm, looks good, Niles." She complimented the butler as he handed her a plate of food.
"Well, you seem happy this morning." Maxwell pointed out, sounding slightly grumpy.
"I am. Why not? It's a lovely day today." She stated, digging into her breakfast which consisted of eggs and bacon, with a side of toast.
"No, it's not." Maxwell snipped as he took a sip of his tea.
"What's the matter with you?"
"Mr. Sheffield has a possible investor visiting today." Niles explained while refilling his tea cup.
"Yes, and I heard he's one of the richest men in England. So make sure you have everything ready Niles. I'm not taking any chances." Maxwell ordered.
"You can count on me, sir." Niles assured him with a fake smile, mumbling to himself as he walked away clearly unhappy about having to cook so many horderves again.
"Ooh! Rich business man? Is he single?" Fran asked excitedly, suddenly becoming interested.
"Yes, but I hardly think he'll be interested in you." Maxwell remarked.
"We'll see about that." She muttered to herself as she had already begun planning what she was going to wear.
Later that day after the kids went off to school, she came down the staircase wearing a tight fitting, low cut, red and black dress with her hair teased at its highest with many layers of hairspray. Perfect. She thought, pleased with herself as she gave herself a once over in the mirror. Wait! Quickly she picked at her teeth making sure there wasn't any leftover food from breakfast. Now, she was perfect.
She glanced around the room noticing that she was the only one in there. The horderves were set out and Maxwell was in his office, which meant she would have the rich business man all to herself when he arrived.
A few minutes later, just as she was about to steal one of the delicious looking horderves for herself the doorbell rang. Fran scampered towards the door her high heels tapping on the marble floor beneath her feet as she went.
She opened the door and on the other side stood a tall gentleman with dark hair carefully slicked back, and intense brown eyes. He was truly the definition of tall, dark, and handsome. Just her type.
He smiled charmingly down at her and said, "Hello, I'm Richard Carter. Im here to see Maxwell Sheffield. Is he in?" What a hunk of man! She thought to herself as she grabbed his arm, and pulled him inside.
"You just missed him, but he'll be back soon." Fran lied as she guided him into the living room.
"I could come back later." He said not wanting to bother her, but she wouldn't let him slip away that easy.
"Nah! Why go through all that trouble? First you gotta call a cab, then there's traffic and it's Friday which means everybody is getting take out." She explained, hoping it would be enough to convince him to stay.
"In that case, I'll wait." He told her, sitting down on the sofa. She sat on the coffee table across from him, giving him her best "come hither" look.
"I didn't catch your name." He asked awkwardly, adjusting his tie.
"Oh, I'm Fran Fine, Maxwell's nanny." She answered.
"I didn't know he had children. " He admitted, if anything he thought she was anything but his nanny with the way she was dressed.
"Yes, they lost their mother. It's all very tragic. Poor kids." She replied shaking her head, taking a bite out of one of the finger sandwiches.
"I can imagine." He agreed sadly, grabbing a sandwich for himself.
"Yeah, being a single father can be difficult these days so he hired me." She added.
"He's not dating anyone?" He asked, quirking an eyebrow finally becoming interested in the conversation.
"Nope. Believe me I've tried." She said rolling her eyes in disgust. Boy, did she try. She thought. Every single day.
"I'm not dating anyone either." She told him, hoping he would get the hint. When he didn't she resorted to more drastic measures. "But that can change."
She got up from the table and sat beside him on the sofa, scooting close to him. Instead, he leaned away from her pressing his back against the arm of the sofa.
"Miss Fine! What are you doing?!" Maxwell yelled upon entering the room, making her jump in surprise. Carter however let out a sigh in relief.
"Just trying to make our guest feel welcome." She answered feeling disappointed that she hadn't gotten very far.
Maxwell sighed, "I'm sorry, Mr. Carter."
"It's quite alright. It was nice meeting you Miss Fine." Carter said as he followed Maxwell out of the room.
Fran snapped her fingers. "Damn!" She mumbled. If only she had a few more minutes...
The meeting was brief, not taking long for Carter to decide to invest. In fact he and Maxwell were to discuss terms over dinner that evening.
"I look forward to tonight, Mr. Carter!" Maxwell cheerily exclaimed as he escorted him to the door.
"Me too. Pick you up at 7?" Carter asked as he pulled on his coat.
"It's a date!"
"Bye, Mr. Carter!" Fran called out from the sofa, shooting him a wink. He gave her a quick smile before turning to leave.
As Maxwell went back to his office, Fran followed him. "Where are you going? I heard there's this nice Chinese joint that just opened-" She began, but he cut her off.
"Miss Fine, it's purely a business dinner. Believe me, you would not find it the least bit interesting." He told her, knowing that she was hinting at going with them.
Maybe so, but she wasn't about to let that stop her. Later that night, after Carter and Maxwell left she snuck out and followed them to the restaurant hoping to make it look as though she accidentally ran into them.
As she entered the restaurant she noticed how low the lights were giving it an almost romantic atmosphere. What a strange place to discuss a business deal. She thought as she scanned the room for them. Finally she found them sitting in a far corner, sitting perhaps a little too close. She titled her head and squinted her eyes, assessing the situation carefully. Something felt off about this, although she couldn't quite put her finger on it. Luckily, she found a table near them giving her ample opportunity to spy on them.
As they all ate their dinner she noticed how Carter looked at Maxwell and gently touched his shoulder every now and then. He almost looked as though he was flirting. Oh no! He was gay! She realized suddenly feeling embarrassed. No wonder he didn't respond to her advances. She just thought he was being oblivious like Maxwell was being right now. She raised an eyebrow. At least she hoped so.
Quickly, she stuffed down the rest of her dinner and left, not wanting to interrupt after all.
As she pushed through the door she found Niles sitting on the sofa quietly reading. "Niles!" She shouted, stuffing her coat in the closet. He jumped up and turned to face her.
"What's wrong?" He asked, putting his magazine down.
"I was just at the restaurant Mr. Sheffield went to...and why didn't you tell me he was gay?!" She exclaimed, smacking his shoulder.
"Who, Mr. Sheffield?" He asked looking confused.
"No, Mr. Carter! Although I wonder..." She trailed off.
Suddenly, they heard voices outside the front door. It was Maxwell and Carter! She gave Niles a push not wanting to be seen, and together they hid around the corner, quietly watching them as they went inside.
"I had a lovely time tonight, Maxwell." Carter admitted, leaning against the doorframe.
"Me too. Thank you for deciding to invest. You won't regret it." Maxwell assured him holding his hand out to shake, which he happily accepted.
"Maxwell, I..." He started, unable to find the right words as he held his hand in his. Unexpectedly, Carter pulled him close and pressed a kiss against his lips.
Fran and Niles' jaw dropped at the scene unfolding before them. When he pulled away he let out a satisfied sigh, grinning at Maxwell.
"I'll bring by the check in the morning. Goodnight!" He told him leaving Maxwell standing there, stunned with a visible blush forming on his face. After a moment or two, he retired to his room for the remainder of the night unaware that Fran and Niles had been watching.
Fran bit her lip feeling a little jealous, but mostly disappointed. If Mr. Sheffield was gay, then any hope for a relationship was gone.
"Are you okay, Miss Fine?" Niles asked her, giving her a pitiful look.
"No. How did my boss snag a rich, sexy business man before me?!" She cried. "What is this world coming to?!"
The next morning, she went down for breakfast as usual only this time she didn't feel like her usual happy self.
Quietly she entered the room, giving everyone a faint smile as she grabbed a plate of food. Everyone looked at her feeling worried. This wasn't like her at all. She wasn't even wearing her bathrobe, instead wearing a turtle neck sweater and tight jeans. She was depressed, but was still determined to look good regardless. Although perhaps not as much now that she didn't have Maxwell to impress.
"Everything alright Miss Fine? Did you miss a sale at Loehmenn's?" Maxwell asked softly, leaning towards her knowing how much missing a good sale upset her.
She shook her head and answered, "No, I'm all right Mr. Sheffield." She lied, trying to sound perkier than she felt.
"Oh, ok then." He said taking a sip of his tea. He couldn't help but feel that she was hiding something from him. Had he done something wrong? Did he forget her birthday?
"Niles, I'll be in my office. Mr. Carter should be stopping by to sign the check any time now." He told the butler as he finished his breakfast.
"That's not the only thing he'll be doing." Fran mumbled under her breath.
"What was that?" Maxwell asked, stopping and turning to look at her.
"Oh, nothing. Have fun!" Fran said, waving at him. "I'm sure you will." She added once he left the room.
Later that morning, before Carter showed up Fran and Maxwell bumped into each other in the foyer as she sent the kids off to school.
"Miss. Fine? I can't help but notice that something is troubling you." He asked her again. For a moment she wondered if she should tell him not wanting to embarrass him, but before she could the doorbell rang.
"Ah, that will be Richard." Maxwell exclaimed, adjusting his tie as he went to answer the door.
"Good morning, Maxwell!" Carter beamed, stepping inside.
"Morning, Miss Fine!" He greeted her with a pleasant smile as Maxwell took his coat and hung it up in the closet. She sighed. Why did they have to be gay? They were so handsome! She thought despairingly to herself.
"Good morning." She said, giving him a little wave.
As he and Maxwell retreated to his office, Maxwell paused for a moment. "We'll talk later." He told Fran, giving her shoulder a reassuring squeeze before following Carter out of the room.
Almost immediately after they closed the door, she saw Niles pretend to sweep in front of it trying to listen in. She shook her head and walked towards him.
"Niles!" She shouted making him jump, but he quickly shushed her.
"Listen!" He urged.
"We should really give them some privacy." Fran insisted, but then two seconds later she found herself with her ear pressed against the door unable to refrain her curiousity.
"Richard, I wish I didn't have to tell you this. You're a really nice guy and everything, but I'm not gay." He admitted.
Carter stared at him for a moment, confused. "But, I thought when you said...last night at the restaurant...I--" He stuttered awkwardly.
"I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong impression." He apologized, biting his lip.
"But you produce Broadway musicals?"
Niles snorted from outside.
"Oh dear, I seem to have made quite a fool of myself haven't I?" Carter sighed, blushing, looking down at his feet.
"No, I don't think so. You're only human. It happens." Maxwell assured him. Fran rolled her eyes, agreeing.
"If it makes you feel any better, I think you're a pretty good kisser. Any man would be lucky to have you." Maxwell added trying to cheer him up.
"Thanks. I think I'll sign that check now and get going." Carter said procuring a pen from his pocket.
"You still want to invest?" Maxwell asked, sounding surprised.
"Of course. I'm not just going to back out because of a mistake on my part. That's not how I do business." He replied as he scrawled his signature across the paper, handing it to Maxwell. "It's been a pleasure doing business with you Mr. Sheffield." He told him, shaking his hand.
Outside, Fran and Niles scattered as they heard his footsteps approach the door.
"By the way, I think Miss Fine is a lovely woman. She would make a wonderful wife don't you think?" He pointed out, remembering what Fran had told him earlier.
As Carter left, Maxwell stood there going over what he said in his mind. He was right, she would be. She was beautiful, unique, witty, kind. He found he could go on and on about all the things that made her perfect, that made him love her. His eyes suddenly became distant at the thought of Fran being his wife. How pretty she would look in a white gown...Then he remembered he wanted to talk to her and quickly left his office to find her.
"Miss Fine!" He called out as he went into the living room.
"Yes, Mr. Sheffield?" She asked as she came down the stairs this time in a different outfit. One that felt more like her style now that Maxwell was straight again.
"Ah, I see you're feeling better." He said, noticing her change of clothes.
"Yep! Better than ever!" She chimed.
"What was bothering you?" He asked curiously.
"Oh it was nothing." She answered, waving it off. "But tell me, what is it like kissing a hot rich businessman?" She remarked, preparing to run.
"Miss Fine!!!"

Whatever Makes You Happy
Chapter 9: dance in the moonlight
Notes: do we like the angst? if not this chapter represents a slight turning point. and i also made a new title card for funsies.
Wrd Cnt: 1.3k
Rating: T
I know it's warmer where you are. And it's safer by your side. But right now I can't be what you want. Just give it time.
"I'll kill her. Just say the word." Jennie seemed to remind you for the one hundredth time.
You rolled your eyes in response, "It really isn't that big of a deal. She got what she wanted from me. I got part of what I wanted from her. End of the story."
Jennie looked to her girlfriend for help. Jisoo only shrugged.
"But you want more."
Your sigh caused your eyelashes to flutter, "But she doesn't. Look. There's nothing I can do about it. There's nothing I'm going to do about it. I'm going to keep my head down, do my job, and only interact with her if I absolutely have to."
"...but you don't want that."
You slapped your hand down on the counter of the bar. It was noon, so there was no one in the building but you, Jennie, Jisoo, and her boss who was out of earshot in his office.
You were tired of people telling you what you wanted. Tired of people telling you what you needed. It seemed like you were the only person okay with giving up.
"I know it's not what I want. It doesn't matter what I want."
And you had known that fact from the very beginning.
"It should." Jennie mumbled.
"But it doesn't. And it is what it is."
It is what it is. That was your story, and you have no choice but to stick with it.
You frowned at the note on your bed. Next to it sat an elegant gold gown, definitely more expensive than probably everything you had ever bought for yourself combined.
Dohyung peaked his head around your doorway. Kijung did the same thing a few inches below him. You would have found the sight comical if Dohyung hadn't have fallen directly on top of Kijung three seconds later.
They murmur between themselves for a few seconds before finally entering your room properly. They smile at you brightly, clearly wanting something.
"You see your gift?" Kijung asked, pointing to the dress and the note.
You nodded, not particularly enthused, but the boys didn't need to know that.
"Mom picked it out for you. So, you can go to her grown up party with her. You have to hurry up so you can make it on time. Mom says it's bad to be late. So, I guess that's always why she just doesn't go to things."
You stifle a hardy laugh behind a cough.
"It's nice of her. But I don't think I'm going to go. I rather stay here and hang out with you guys." Truth was you didn't want to give Lisa the satisfaction at this point.
"We want you to go, Y/N."
You took a deep breath. They were giving you the eyes. The puppy eyes. They knew you couldn't resist.
"Fine. But I'm not wearing this dress."
The boys shrugged indifferently. Little did you know, their allowance had only relied on getting you to agree to going. Lisa never said anything about you wore. So, as far as they were concerned, they had done their job.
"I thought you said Y/N was coming." Chaeyoung inquired. She attempted to sip at her flute of champagne nonchalantly.
Lisa rolled her eyes, "No I didn't. I said I invited her. There's a difference."
"Then, where is sh-" Chaeyoung trailed off as her eyes shown up at the top of the grand stairway.
Lisa followed her eyes with a frown, her face soon mirroring Chaeyoung's.
There you were.
Standing at the top of the stairs like you owned the place. And at this point, Lisa easily could have been convinced you did.
At one point she thinks she even stopped breathing. Because you were, well, breathtaking. But, of course, Lisa had always been ever aware of that simple fact.
You seemed to be descending in slow motion. At least half the room had their eyes on you, including Chaeyoung. Much to Lisa's chagrin.
Ages must pass before you come to a stop in front of them.
"That's not the dress I picked out for you." No. She does not know why those are the words that choose to spill past her lips. Yes. She does regret that those are the words that choose to spill past her lips.
You wore a sparkly tight fitting red gown with a slit down the side to reveal your matching red skinny heel pumps.
"Oh, look. She's becoming self aware." You said sarcastically.
Liss supposed she deserved that.
"I-" You cut Lisa off promptly.
"Come on, Chae. Let's dance."
And Chaeyoung followed you like a lost, drooling puppy immediately.
Lisa supposed she deserved that too.
Lisa absolutely did not deserve this.
She had been watching you drape yourself over Chaeyoung all night. You were her guest, gotdammit!
She had half a mind to rip you away from Chaeyoung and sweep you off your feet dramatically. But you were already mad at her, and that would improve nothing at all.
So, she sulked.
Even though she was supposed to be networking.
Sulking felt much more appropriate.
She'd maybe go as far as to say that you were purposely attempting to make her jealous.
She'd go even farther as to say that it was most definitely working. Her excuse, is that it's Chaeyoung. If it was anyone else she wouldn't care. But that wasn't true. Lisa hated seeing you with anyone that wasn't her.
And yet.
And yet, she kept pushing you into the arms of others.
She knew this was hard on you. It was hard on her too. She made a mistake. Not sleeping with you. That was one of the single best decisions of her life. No, the mistake she made was pulling away from you that morning. Her mistake was making you believe that you were only worthy of a one time fuck.
The truth of the matter?
Lisa was fairly sure you ruined her for anyone else that night.
But.
But she was engaged. And yeah, Seulgi may not be here tonight but she was still engaged to her. No matter how much she didn't want to be. She still had to provide for her children and make sure they would be set in the future. She still had to run her business efficiently, and effectively, and her way. She still-she still.....you just leaned your head onto Chaeyoung's shoulder like you enjoyed being there. Like you had never placed your head onto Lisa's. Like you could never put your head onto Lisa's.
Lisa Manoban was in love with you.
And there was nothing either of you could do about it.
Lisa still had to do all of those things. Or so she thought, before she realized she was in love with you. A realization that she finds staring back at her at the bottom of her champagne bottle.
Lisa still had to do all of those things. Or so she thought.
Now, she's looking at you through the warped view of the bottom of the champagne flute. And somehow, she's never seen you clearer.
Having her cake and eating it too hadn't been working. She only ended up putting more obstacles in your way.
So, that meant she was just going to figure out a way to remove all the obstacles. Even if it meant running through them head first.
She finally brought the empty flute down from her lips. Her eyes met yours as you peered over Chaeyoung's shoulder. Your arm wrapped around the tall woman's neck, locked in a secure embrace as the two of you slow dance.
Lisa winked at you and you stepped on Chaeyoung's toe.
Checkmate.

SPENCER
Being late to work is not something that I tend to enjoy. I hate it, in fact. I feel like I'm letting my team down if I'm ever late to round table meetings or if I miss a briefing. But these days, sleep is rare. And if I do sleep, it's not uncommon for me to sleep over the array of alarms I have.
Coffee is a must have for me at all points of the day. No sleep means exhaustion and exhaustion means my brain doesn't work as quickly as it could and that means we don't solve cases and not solving cases means more people die. I can't have more people die on my watch so I drink as much coffee as I can. But the coffee in the bullpen isn't always the best so if I ever have time, I stop at a cafe on my way to work. I take the extra five minutes to walk there before hopping on the metro.
I mumble off my coffee order to the tired looking barista and she scribbles down my name. I hand over a few stray bills to pay and get some change in return, tucking it in my pants pocket. I give a tight lipped smile to the barista before moving to a table in the corner of the cafe, pulling a book out of my messenger bag and starting to read, crossing one of my legs over the other. I don't look up while I wait for the barista to call out my name, not even when two people bump into each other in front of the door or a tourist asks someone else for directions. I just read my book and chew my lip, tapping my fingers against the hardcover.
"Spencer," I hear my name being called and finally allow myself attention to be lifted.
I stand quickly, tucking my book in my bag and closing the flap before heading back to the main counter. But the buckle of my bag gets caught on the button of my sleeve when I try to close my bag all the way. I pull at my sleeve, trying to get the buckle unlooped. But in this tussle with myself, I don't even realize that I'm still walking until I bump right into someone. I move my attention from my bag and catch the person's shoulders so I don't completely knock them over and make not only a fool of myself, but of them too.
"Oh my gosh," I say immediately, my eyes widening, "I'm so sorry,"
"It's okay, it's okay," the girl laughs, her hands squeezing my arms as she regains her balance, “didn’t even fall. You caught me. I didn’t even break a sweat!”
My eyes finally find the girl's face and I'm rendered absolutely speechless. I somehow notice everything about her right away and I memorize her beauty. Her eyes are a bright, beautiful shade of ocean blue and her eyelashes cast shadows over her perfectly pink cheeks. Her hair is wavy and blonde with brown roots, but there's a yellow and blue patterned scarf tied around the front of her head like a folded bandana with pieces pulled out to frame her face. Her nose is small and I can only liken it to a button. Her lips are full and plump and a pretty light pink color and her Cupid's Bow is one that Cupid himself should be jealous of. Both of her ears are full of different types of piercings, and her nose even has a hoop in her right nostril.
She's wearing a light blue knit sweater tucked into a tight denim skirt, along with a pair of short black boots with small heels on them. Her nails are painted white and her fingers are full of rings, each of them different styles and various shades of silver with yellow gems. I notice a tattoo on one of her fingers but she moves and I can't make out what it is. I wonder if she has more tattoos. I find two straps around her shoulders and realize she's wearing a leather backpack, one probably very similar to my own bag. The last thing I notice is the old fashioned camera hanging around her neck, resting just above the waistband of her skirt.
I've seen my fair share of pretty girls. I've seen girls that I wouldn't mind getting to know better. I've met girls that have caught my attention. I've even been in what I believed to be love. But what is this? If I thought I'd seen a beautiful girl before, I clearly hadn't met this girl before. She looks like an angel sent directly from heaven. She looks like she was crafted by God himself and put on this earth to grace mankind with her beauty. Is it fair for one woman to be this beautiful? Is it even possible? I didn’t think that one woman could possess such beauty.
What the hell is wrong with me? I can barely even breathe. I’m just staring at this gorgeous specimen, admiring her smile and trying to memorize the way her fingertips feel on my forearms. I quickly try to think of something to say, another apology for running into her, but I can barely even breathe when I stare at her, much less speak.
"Spencer," the barista calls out my name again, setting my cup down on the counter before walking away. Saved by the barista.
The girl smiles at me and her face lights up, only further illuminating her features. She's got two dimples on her cheeks, bringing out a childlike spirit in her that I pick up right away. "Um," she says with a laugh, "is that yours? You should probably grab it before someone else steals it,"
Okay, Spencer, breathe. You can do this. You’ve spoken to pretty girls before. Sure, it’s hard and it’s scary, but you can do it. Just say words. Preferably, coherent words. Preferably, maybe, a full sentence.
"Right," I finally force out, dropping my hands from her arms. I hadn't realized until now that I was still holding onto her and she was still holding onto me. I reach over and grab my steaming coffee, almost wincing at the heat under my fingertips.
The girl still hasn't moved when I turn back to her, but now she's fiddling with her camera. "Are you," I start to say before hesitating. Her head pops up and she smiles again, letting her camera fall against her stomach. I gulp, shuffling my feet against the floor as I attempt to speak a full sentence. "I didn't mean to bump into you like that,"
"Oh, it's totally fine," she waves her hand at me casually. "I wasn't paying attention either. No harm, no foul. Like I said, I didn’t even break a sweat,” The girl pushes her hair behind her ears and places her hands on her hips. With the confident way she speaks, I almost expect her to keep speaking, but she doesn’t. She just looks at me with the cutest smile, even baring her teeth, waiting for me to say something else.
So I clutch my cup of coffee and swallow thickly. “I-" I hesitate yet again, but when the girl's eyes scream for me to continue, I do. "What's your name?"
She opens her mouth to speak but before she can, another cup of coffee is placed on the counter. "Amelia," the barista announces before walking away.
Amelia laughs, taking a step over to grab her cup, which I immediately notice is tea and not coffee. "Took the words right out of my mouth,"
"Amelia," I repeat as if testing the way the word rolls off my tongue. It tastes sweet. "You heard already, but, um, I'm Spencer,"
"It's nice to meet you," Amelia holds her hand to shake mine, and the panic starts to set in. For a moment, I debate on actually just shaking her hand so I don’t seem like a total freak to this girl that I seem to have a massive crush on. But the prospect of shaking a total strangers hand is repulsive and when I find myself looking at her hand for more than two seconds, I’m starting to count up the amount of germs that would be present there and I have to force myself not to make a face.
So of course, while my hands get clammy and my heart rate speeds up, I do what I do best. I spit out a fact that Amelia didn't ask for. "On average we carry 3,200 bacteria from 150 different species on our hands,"
Amelia's fingers curl into her palm and she retracts her hand, looking down at her palm and smiling just a tiny bit. "You know, I don't blame you for not wanting to shake hands. It is kinda gross anyway,"
"Sorry," I blurt out immediately, still shuffling on my feet. "That was rude of me,"
"It's not rude," Amelia counters, sipping her tea without so much as grimacing at the inevitable heat. "Are you in a rush?" I glance down at my watch and see that I still have ten minutes until I should be getting on the train. I relay this information to her and watch as she smiles again. "Would you like to sit with me then?"
"Oh," my eyes widen slightly and I squeeze my coffee cup so hard that I think I might poke holes in the sides, "y-yeah, sure,"
"Cool," she breathes out, waving me on and leading me to a booth on the other side of the cafe. I'm far too anxious with this situation and by Amelia's beauty and her comfortability around me to even think about relaxing, or drinking my coffee, or taking my bag off from around my shoulder. I definitely can’t remember any of Morgan’s advice on how to chat up girls or any of the conversation starters I’ve memorized for social situations like this. My mind is completely empty, just when I need it to be full and plentiful. How lovely.
Amelia sits across from me and grins, and every time she does, I swear my heart skips a beat and another butterfly breaks through its cocoon in my stomach. "So where are you off to this morning, if you don't mind me asking?"
"Work," I answer, and then realize that's an incredibly vague answer. Amelia raises her eyebrows as she lounges back against the booth, clearly waiting for me to elaborate. "Uh, I work for the FBI, actually. More specifically, the BAU- the Behavioral Analysis Unit,"
"You're a profiler!" Amelia perks up again, sitting up straighter with a huge grin on her face. "That's super cool! My dad is a police officer, sheriff actually, back home in Texas and I'm pretty sure he's worked with the BAU before and he says you guys are awesome. You catch serial killers, right?"
I'm almost stunned by her reaction. Most people don't believe behavioral profiling works, and most people resist the practice, especially local police. But her acceptance of it is incredibly refreshing, and it's welcomed. Honestly, any type of excitement from this Amelia girl is welcomed. It’s a beautiful sight.
I can feel my cheeks turn bright red as I nod, still clutching my coffee cup. "Yeah, we do. And um, what about you?" I hate talking about myself so I change the subject. "Where are you off to?"
"I'm actually meeting a friend of mine to go shopping a few blocks over," Amelia gestures out the window. "But since we're talking about your job, I'll tell you about my way less cool job, which is an artist. I went to Carnegie Mellon and then moved here and I’ve been here ever since. My preference is canvas painting but I bring my camera around a lot, hence," she holds up the camera around her neck, "the camera now. I try to capture spontaneous moments for when I do exhibits and galleries and such,”
"I've always loved art. Never been talented at it, but I like it." I shrug nonchalantly and sip my coffee, trying to divert my eyeline down to the table, but when Amelia smiles at me, I can’t find it in me to break our eye contact.
Something about Amelia's smile brings me in. Every time she flashes her teeth, I feel myself sink further into my seat and I feel my head get fuzzier. I almost forget that I have to get to work in just a few minutes. But I don't want to go anymore. I want to stay here and keep talking to Amelia. I want her to keep going on and on about canvas paintings and her education at Carnegie Mellon, or even just tell me why she likes tea over coffee, if that’s even true. I don’t know anything about this girl but I want to.
"Nobody is technically good at art," Amelia responds. "Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses in the arts, everyone sees art differently, and that's okay. I'm sure you're not horrible, I'm sure you just haven't found your strength yet, Spencer," She enunciates my name with such beauty and grace that I almost ask her to say it again. I'd do anything to hear her say my name again.
"If-" I'm cut off when my phone rings in my pocket, so I lean over and fish it out. I read a text from Garcia that tells me we have a case, meaning we'll be briefing for a new case this morning. I sigh defeatedly, wishing I hadn't just gotten a text that usually piques my interest. Today, it makes my heart drop.
"You have to get to work?" I look back up at work to see yet another smile on Amelia's perfect face. "Go ahead, it's okay," I’m so used to seeing disappointed faces when this text comes in, not a smiling face. It’s odd, somewhat confusing.
I grab my coffee cup and stand as Amelia does the same. She holds her cup to her chest, looking down at her feet. "Will," I chew on the inside of my cheek when she looks up at me, ocean eyes wide with anticipation as I struggle with my words for the umpteenth time, "can I see you again? We barely got to talk and you-"
"Yeah," Amelia nods before I can even finish my sentence. "Can I give you my number?"
I have to hold myself back from jumping up and down in excitement. "Y-Yeah, sure, of course," I pull my phone out yet again as she does the same. She tells me her phone number slowly so I can get it down, but of course, it sticks in my brain immediately.
"Just text me," Amelia murmurs, looking over my shoulder at my phone where my shaky thumbs press against the buttons on my phone to type out- hi, it's Spencer. She waits until her phone rings and then she smiles at me. "Great, I've got it. Now, um, go. Don't let me be the reason you're late in helping people. You don't have to text me if you don't want to," she pauses for a moment, and I wonder what she's waiting for. Is she waiting for me to confirm or deny that statement? Is she waiting for anything at all? Is it an open-ended statement? Where have all my profiling skills gone? Forget profiling- where is my common sense? "But if you do wanna text me," I'm thankful when she starts talking again, "don't until after you've solved your case. Don't worry about me until you've saved lives. But like I said, if you don't wanna text me, you don't have to,"
My phone buzzes again and I can only imagine it's someone from the team asking me where I am, hurrying me along so we can get started on our briefing. I ignore it for now. "Well," I have to clear my throat to be able to speak again. I give Amelia a bashful smile holding up my phone for her to see, "I'll text you when I'm back home,"
Amelia blushes, her bottom lip being pulled between her teeth. She breathes out a tiny laugh, nodding. "I look forward to it, Spencer,"
I take a step towards the door and feel my body grow cold at the distance starting to increase between us. "I'll talk to you soon, Amelia,"
And with that, before I have it in me to take one more look at the angel standing in the corner cafe, I hurry out the front door. There's a dumb smile on my face as I rush down the stairs to the train platform, struggling to swipe my card and respond to Penelope's text at the same time, all while running to catch the train at the platform. I'm somehow successful at all of this and only manage to breathe once I'm inside the stuffy car. Amelia's face is stuck inside my head and I can't get it out, and I'm positive that I never want to.

"Reid? Reid!" My head pops up as Morgan forcefully says my name, catching my attention and bringing me out of my daydream.
When I look up at him, he's already staring up at me with his eyebrows raised, clearly expecting an answer out of me about something. I have no idea what that something is, but he’s wanting an answer about it. I clear my throat, placing my cup of terrible police station coffee on the table and running a hand over my face. "Sorry," I apologize half heartedly, "I was thinking,"
Morgan sits across from me at the table and folds his hands. "Case related?" I glance up at him before deciding to completely ignore him, standing and walking up to the board, returning to examining the geographical profile. "Reid, come on, we've been on the case three days. You've been distracted ever since you walked in for the briefing. You can talk to me," I keep ignoring him. I stare at the map in front of me. "Is something going on? Is it your mom?"
"My mom is fine," I spin around and cross my arms over my chest, ignoring the way my heart starts to speed up when Amelia’s face resurfaces in my brain. “Can we just solve this case so we can go home?”

LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT TO BE TAGGED
I exhale, turning to look at Nikki where he's laying beside me, a sickly pale tone to his skin, his black hair tangled, his hand that is clinging to mine, covered in tracks, the same appearance as his other hand.
I can't help but wonder if I bathed him if he'd wake up. He reeks, and he's rough looking, only adding to my guilt.
Fred gave him a sleeping pill to ease him off of his coke high--he's been freebasing again, just cooking it up in the room's microwave.
I don't know what the hell to do about him.
I wish I did.
Turning over to face him, I brush his bangs out of his eyes, my fingertips lightly dusting over his cheeks, dark circles under his eyes.
They were supposed to play tonight, but said Nikki came down with the flu and added the show to the second round of U.S. tours lined up for early next year.
The Nikki I knew would have never put drugs over his music, his fans, and especially not his relationship.
But, the Nikki I knew also wouldn't have cheated on me…
It's been hard to accept the fact that the Nikki I fell in love with six years ago, isn't around anymore.
1981
I finish getting my church dress back on, grinning at Nikki as he gets his pants laced back up, the both of us glancing at each other in the back of my car.
"What's mommy and daddy gonna say when I send their girl back home all turned out?" He asks me, smugly, and I put my heels back on, scoffing.
"Gee, just come home with me and find out." I shrug.
"I'll pass." He mumbles, pulling his shirt over his head.
"Oh, c'mon, I'm sure they'd love you." I nudge him with my elbow.
"Your mom would piss her granny-panties." He argues, wrinkling his nose a little and I just blink at him.
"Maybe...but I'm pretty sure my dad would like you." I inform him.
"Like hell he does." He says to himself and I just let out a breath.
"So…" I say after a few seconds of silence and he nods a little, awkward tension filling the air around us.
"...Well." He lets out in the same tone.
"Good freaking night." I go to open the car door, irritated that he doesn't offer up to hangout and do stuff other than fool around, slamming the door shut.
"Hey, what's up?" He asks me, getting out next, standing by the driver's door, blocking my way.
"Nothing. I'll see you later." I mumble, nudging him out of my way, opening my door but he's quickly shutting it before I can.
"Viv, what's--"
"--I'm gonna start charging you to sleep with me." I state blatantly and his hazel eyes widen, a shit eating smirk on his lips as he chuckles out, "what?"
"You'd think since we have sex with each other so often it'd at least make us friends, but all you wanna do when we hangout is screw around and then go do whatever with the guys." I tell him. "And, no, this isn't me being a 'typical girl' and developing feelings for you just because we've had sex. It's me being tired of feeling like I'm just being used to get you off."
"I'm being used to get you off so it's a win-win, is it not?"
"You sound like Vince." I snap. "All that's happening is I screw you, you screw me, we leave, and don't talk until we're both horny again."
"Is that not how this works?"
"The least we can do is get food afterwards or something." I suggest.
"...Like a date?"
I gag at the thought.
"Ew, no." I tell him and he looks confused. "Like, um...I don't know. But since I don't hate you enough to not hook up with you, anymore, I think we could at least get to know who we're hooking up with a little better."
"Friends with benefits?" He clarifies.
"No, no, we're not friends." I point out and he let me get in my car.
"I'll see you tomorrow night?" He throws out and I nod. "Wear something pretty--we're going to McDonald's." He smugly smiles and I roll my eyes, holding back a laugh.
I'm shaking the memory away when there's a knock at the door and I slowly get out of bed, trying not to wake Nikki, slipping my hand from his as my feet hit the hotel carpet.
I open the door, seeing Mick.
"They wanted us to go ahead and start getting our stuff together to leave." He informs me. "Apparently Guns has some solo shows at some clubs nearby so they're staying behind and we'll back up with them tomorrow night." He informs me and I nod, smiling softly, before he lets out a small breath. "I know you're hurt, and you've got every right to be, but would it not make more sense to file for divorce before you move on, as opposed to moving on before you even really know if you're gonna leave or not?" He asks next, under his breath so Nikki has no way of hearing it.
"Ask your married girlfriend that before you come at me with it, Mick, alright?" I ask him neutrally, shutting the door in his face before stepping back to the bed, hesitant to wake Nikki up but doing it anyway so we won't be late.
I wasn't shocked when Mick let on that he knew about Duff and I because, like with me and Nikki, he just knew when something was up.
Looking back, Mick had a point, but at that time he was the last person I wanted to hear it from, because Emi wasn't estranged from her husband, or even on bad terms with him. She was just cheating for whatever reason while her husband stayed in the blissful dark. Mick was "the other woman" therefore he had no place to speak to me about my relationship with Duff.
"Nikki, get up, we gotta get packed." I gently shake him and he groans out.
"Baby, let me sleep." He mumbles, eyes squeezed closed, face scrunching slightly for a second.
"We gotta be in L.A. in seven hours, c'mon." I nudge at him again, and his red eyes open, disgruntled, taking a moment before sitting up.
"I did it again last night?" He asks me, rubbing the crust from his eyes as I slip my slippers on.
"Yep."
"Are they pissed?"
"They're worried." I inform him. "I'm worried, too." I add, stepping to the door.
"I'm fine." He says after me.
"Glad to hear it." I open the door, taking a moment to add, "and I'm not 'baby' to you anymore," before leaving.
I get to my room and get my things packed, being interrupted by a knock at the door.
When I get it open, Duff is on the other side, wearing nothing but his underwear.
"I think I left my necklace in here." He tells me and I step aside, watching him grab it from the bedside table before he turns to me and says, "so, you guys are leaving tonight?" He asks me.
"Yeah." I nod. "Gotta go watch Vince walk down the aisle."
He chuckles and I do, too, realizing how ironic the reality of it is.
"...Is, um...Nikki okay?" He cautiously questions.
"Yeah." I nod. "I'm sorry I didn't go back to your room last night, I just thought it'd be best if he eased off before I went to bed and then I accidentally fell asleep before I could leave so…"
"No, no, Viv, it's fine. You still care about him, even though he's shitty sometimes he's still the guy you've been with for the past six years. I'm not upset that you're making sure he's okay." He nods reassuringly.
Before I can say "okay", there's another knock at my door, and I step to it and open it, Tommy and Vince waiting for me.
"Ya ready?" Tommy asks, him and Vince both wearing sunglasses.
"Yeah." I reply, going to zip my suitcase, Tommy following in after me to grab it, taking a double take when he notices Duff.
"Hey, man."
"Hey." Duff replies, rubbing the back of his neck, before looking to Vince. "Vinnie, you ready to walk down that aisle?" He asks him with a smile.
"Yeah, just so Sharise will stop bitching about wedding details." He responds with a groan in his tone and Duff chuckles. "But her and Skylar are coming back with me for a honeymoon so just be on your best behavior--not that you aren't most times." He adds.
"Nah, I'll give Slash and Stevie the heads up, though." He assures him.
"Thanks, dude." Vince says back.
"Alright, see you when we get back." Tommy says, patting at Duff's shoulder.
"See ya." Duff says to them as they head out.
"I gotta pee and I'll be down." I lie.
Vince looks at me, oddly, with a small bit of hesitance before he shuts the door and I rub my lips and look at Duff, fumbling with my fingers.
"You're not breaking up with me already, are you?" He repeats what I asked him before and I smile and shake my head.
"No, no." I grab his hand and tug him closer to me and he kisses my hair, wrapping his arms around me, tightly, and I rest my cheek against his skin.
"Just have a safe flight, try not to kill anyone." He tells me and I nod.
"I love you." I tell him, looking up at him.
"I love you, too." He leans down and kisses me, pulling away too soon. "I'll see you tomorrow night."
"See you tomorrow night." I agree, taking a mental picture of his soft grin.
The next day was spent scrambling to keep everyone together--especially Nikki--because Sharise deserved one day to be with Vince without a fight...little did I know the only fight that would occur would be between Vince and I, and not him and Nikki, like I feared.
"Okay," I straighten her veil, examining her dress one last time as she hands me my bouquet, "you look beautiful, Sharise." I assure her and she continues nitpicking possible flaws in the mirror.
"I know we're already married so this is just a vow renewal or whatever but I'm nervous." She admits to me, fanning at herself a little.
"There's no reason to be." I tell her.
"Where's Sky?"
"With your parents."
"Where's Tansy?"
"Getting her dress on."
"Where's Nikki?"
"In the bathroom."
"In the bathroom or shooting up?"
"In the bathroom. Tommy's on smack watch."
"Okay." She lets out a breath, trying to calm down. "Vince...is he--"
"He's ready to walk when you are." As I say this, the door opens and Nikki and Tansy come in.
"Sharise, the wedding party's waiting for you." Tansy tells her a little shakily.
I think she's beginning to withdrawal.
"Alright. Okay." Sharise inhales and exhales.
"You got this." I promise her.
"You're right." She nods and I help her with her dress as she heads to the door.
Nikki, Tommy, Mick, and a couple other guys I've never met that are good friends of Sharise and Vince are wearing their tuxes with a hot pink sash, to match the bridesmaids knee length, hot pink dresses with black tull underlying the skirt.
We file into line, Nikki and getting in front of Sharise since she's appointed me with Matron of honor.
"You showered." I mumble to Nikki, impressed.
"Tommy threatened to spray me off with a water hose. I didn't feel like being cold." He mumbles and I scoff as the music starts, the doors opening to lead outside, where we have to walk down stone stairs to meet in a spacious courtyard.
"I'm getting war flashbacks." He says next once it's our turn to start walking.
"From our wedding, yeah, me freaking too." I reply in a hiss.
"I was gonna say from Tommy's wedding but sure." He scoffs bitterly.
"Just don't leave this one every fifteen minutes to slip into the bathroom and shoot up." I ignore his comment, the arm that my hand is looped through tenses up and I can feel him glaring at me through his sunglasses.
"Don't be a fucking bitch." He tells me as we step down the stairs and approach the guests, seeing Vince and the other groomsmen and bridesmaids waiting for us.
"Little late for that." I point out.
"And our wedding wasn't even that bad, Viv." He randomly cuts back to our initial back and forth and I fake a smile for the crowd, speaking through my teeth to reply, "Wish I could say the same for the months to follow it."
We separate at the alter, and I push my feelings aside when I look to see Sharise stepping down the stairs, looking stunning as ever.
When she gets down here, I'm straightening the back of her dress as she takes Vince's hands.
The ceremony doesn't take very long, and once the reception comes and all the pictures are done with being taken, I'm ready to get out of this dress--but it's not ready for me to get out of it.
I grind my teeth, dreading asking this bastard for help, but I know he's got his knife and the zipper of my dress is stuck.
"Nikki," I tap at his shoulder as he downs another glass of wine.
"What?" He wipes his mouth with the back of his hand.
"Can you help me get out of this dress?" I ask him and he suddenly bursts into laughter.
"I'd rather fuck a pot of boiling hot oil than fuck you." He tells me.
"No, asshole, I mean literally help me get this off because the zipper is stuck." I explain.
"Oh." He says, turning me to look at it. "Yeah, I guess." He stands up and I head to the bathroom as he pulls his pocket knife from his pocket.
Once we get to the bathroom, I'm pulling my arms from the sleeves the best I can before I look at him.
"Just go to sawing away here." I point to the seam that's three-fourths zipped.
He starts cutting at it, and it soon gets looser and looser to the point there should be plenty of room to finish pushing it down my hips...and I would if his hands weren't steadily holding at my bare sides, his eyes on my back as I look at him in the mirror and wait for him to snap back into reality.
He never does, and I'm forced to clear my throat to whisk the tension away.
"Um, I got it from here." I tell him, hinting that his hands on my skin aren't needed.
He just looks at me in the mirror and holds at them tighter, making me go to hit at the tops of his hands, only I realize this is one of the few moments he probably finds peace in because he can pretend, even for a second, that everything isn't screwed sideways.
I just rest my palms over his hands, making eye contact with him in the mirror, looking us over, and I smile sadly, realizing we won't ever be those people again.
After his moment is finished, he's gently patting my sides before taking a step back and putting his knife back into his pocket.
"Thanks, again." I say to him before he goes. "No problem." He mumbles, stepping out.
I rush back to the bridal suite to avoid being seen half naked, to change into a more comfortable dress.
As soon as I shut the door, I turn around and see Vince nursing a beer, and I jump.
"Jesus, Vince!" I snap at him, taking a deep breath and he rolls his eyes for a second. "What the hell are you doing here?" I ask him, peeling the dress down my legs, not caring that he's getting an eyeful of me in nothing but skimpy panties since he's seen me completely naked in the pictures of me that Nikki's shown off to him.
"Hiding from my in laws." He replies, taking another sip of beer.
"You're not supposed to be drinking." I remind him.
"Who's gonna tell them?" He asks me, raising his brows.
"Doesn't matter if the state doesn't know--God knows. That's who you'll have to answer to in the end."
"Oh-Oh, my fuck." He chuckles out, his tongue swiping the inside of his bottom lip.
"What? You think standing before God and being confronted with the fact you're still drinking after killing your friend in a drunk driving accident is funny?" I hiss at him.
"I think the bible warns against becoming a drunkard but doesn't it also say, "you must not commit adultery'?"
My heart pounds in my chest, my eyes wide, and he stands up from his spot on the fluffy parlor chair.
"So you can give me shit about killing Razzle and still drinking, but every time the sweat on Duff's back dries after he's done fucking you, it's just another nail being hammered into Nikki's coffin, once he finds out." He says, pointing at me with the hand holding at his bottle. "And that blood's gonna be on your hands." He adds. "Not mine."

PINK + WHITE.
—chapter nine ; with heat & wet skin.
summary: teresa’s permanent resignation from the peaky blinders leads her to a whole new chapter of working in an art museum. but little did she know her best life would be butchered some time later when her former lover tommy shelby gives her no choice but to return to the peaky blinders after they make new enemies, with the leader, of all people, being the man teresa fell in love with one night after a wedding reception back in post world war; luca changretta.
pairing: luca changretta x OC x tommy shelby
tags in this chapter: swearing, implied nsfw, drinking, mentions + drug use
[ chapter index / meet my oc / wattpad link ]
MASON was quick on his feet when he was given the slightly odd request Teresa had asked him to do last minute. It had nothing to do with the gallery or with separation of last minute business meetings to be scheduled in the margins of the diary. It was just that he had to safely track down a dangerous man. Luca Changretta was still in England, hot-headed with a plan.
Teresa loved fur shawls. Though she detested how the cheap ones she could afford wore out from time to time, from the "fur" falling out like leaves from a tree in autumn, or even its colour turning from new to depressed (and even she grew so envious over the women who wore the luxurious, expensive ones at parties). Tommy Shelby never bothered with buying her what she wanted, which she was fine with, but one man with the Italian genes spoiled her with one that she kept in her closet. A grey-ish white. Teresa often takes one look at it, before sliding it over to reach the silky see-through shawl when she is simply relaxing in her home. At parties she debated even thinking of taking it out, but then there was the other shawl that was made of black fur, and it closed together with a silver clip to keep her shoulders warm.
The fur shawl was just like the painting she avoids at her own work. Both were so beautiful and timeless, both sharing personal meaning. But tonight, it finally saw light from staying in the wardrobe closet for too long. Teresa held it out in front of her, then clutched it in her arms.
The bar was built together with grey walls, none sound-proof. On the other side you could hear the jazz band playing music for the party, or footsteps from the owner or a bartender heading out back for more stocking of gin. If you were on that side, you'd hear the giant doors spring open from the doorman that allowed Teresa to enter inside. The man at the counter watched as her dress fell all the way down to her heels, not too long so she wouldn't trip. Her hair was in its curls once more, and wrapped around like comfort was the fur.
She reached a booth and set her purse on the table. "White wine."
"Ma'am-" the server goes.
"A man will be joining me very soon." Teresa made a smile, as the unescorted woman if Luca were to not show up. Had she imagined if Luca burned the invitation letter she mailed to his hotel, or simply tossed it away, in future to be used as scratch paper, or even as a roll up (if Luca is one of the many people that did snow), she may have just wasted her time getting dolled up just to not be served at her booth.
"Last time I met up with a woman at a bar, she proposed a deal, and lied straight to my face."
She shot her head up.
Those eyes.
Looks like her night wasn't going to waste after all. "Are you talking about Polly?" She watches as Luca Changretta helps himself on the other side of the booth, the same server coming over to Teresa with her white wine.
Teresa waited while staring down at Luca's own glass being poured with four fingers of whiskey. Luca glanced at Teresa's outfit, not answering her question. "You're wearing the shawl I got you? I can't believe you still have it."
"What, like I got rid of it? Why would I give it to someone else who would treat it like a rag?"
"Hm." Luca took a sip. "So, why did you summon me here? Actually, I know the answer to that one. You're a businesswoman, as we both know. You invited me here to propose some kind of deal, eh? Like I got the time to spare one more fucking thing before I go do what I came to England to do?"
"I know about the vendetta, Luca." Teresa began. "And I know the deal you made with Polly, which was a lie, by the way. I know about that. What I also know is that you don't just plan on crushing the Peaky Blinders. You have more on your mind. You're so greedy that you would want to overthrow Alfie Solomons as well. If he were to betray Tommy with the deal you made with Mr. Solomons, you know you and your men would come after him as well and take over his business."
Luca nodded. "I had a feeling you knew. I had a feeling Tommy Shelby brought you back to Birmingham, no?"
"I know your patience is wearing thin, and you're done giving people more time. But then there's me."
"Right, forgive me," Luca places a hand on his chest. "Why not talk about the royalty in front of me as well? What could she possibly request for this time?"
"I wanna know why I was never sent a Black Hand."
Luca laughs, trailing his fingers around the rim of his glass. Whatever Teresa said or did, she definitely wasn't laughing. Nothing seemed funny to her on her end. She did, however, miss that laugh of his. It was more of a chuckle, but she loved it like it was honey in hot tea. "Let me tell you something. It's best to stay out of this, right? Since you resigned, messing with us is like throwing stones at the devil."
"I'll play in the snow with the devil to prove you wrong."
Luca scoffs harshly. "So you're one of those people that snorts white lines just to feel good?"
"That was just my own figure of speech, Luca. I don't do Tokyo," Teresa replied. She cringed at the habit Arthur and Michael carelessly picked up on. "It's everyone's thing now, but not mine."
"That makes two of us." He took another sip. "I'm doing you a favour here, Miss Griffith. Stay out of this and do your own thing."
"There's no need for you to call me that," she comments.
"Why the hell not? Formalities are a thing of the past now?"
"You're talking to me as if we just met. We had something together."
"Yeah, had."
Teresa gave a glare, grabbing her wine. Luca smirks. "All right. Whatever you say. Jesus, kid. You're so fuckin' difficult."
"Kid," she scoffs at his remark. "And Ada Thorne is on your list and she doesn't get her hands covered in blood. So why wasn't I included?"
"You feel left out?" Luca snickered.
"I just wanna know why. I know damn well you haven't forgotten about me. Even if what we had to you was just for pleasure, you found out that I was once a Peaky Blinder."
Luca stares. "You wanted out because you felt like it would devour you forever, so I respected your wishes. You told me why you threw in the towel. And I know you're not a Shelby, you don't wanna be a Shelby."
The server comes up to them. "Sir? Ma'am? Would any of you like to hear the specials tonight?"
"No, thank you." Teresa smiles.
"More whiskey," Luca says. "And for the lady, she'll have more wine." Teresa raised her brows. She didn't mind more wine, would she care so much about knowing her limit before it was time to wince at the tab?
"I forgot you love whiskey," Teresa points out.
"Italian whiskey," Luca made a hand gesture. "As I was saying... have you thought long and hard about this, as to why I'm here? As to why I want Tommy Shelby dead, how I now want everyone dead?"
"Your father." There was a pause between the two. The jazz band transitioned their music to a much slower song this time, and it started easing the nerves in both the former couple's systems despite the volume of alcohol consumed. "Arthur Shelby killed your father. John Shelby killed your brother Angel."
"If things didn't happen the way it did, my men and I would be cozying up in New York counting stacks by stacks."
"And I wouldn't be seeing you here," Teresa added. "Almost ever again," Teresa thanks the server for the excess wine refilling in her glass, then Luca's. "Now can we talk about the giant elephant in the room?"
Luca furrows his brows.
"I know why you left, Luca. I know it's been five years, but you really just packed up and left. I've never seen you so frantic until that day when you were running to the train." Not even an eye bat. "I grew miserable ever since."
"Can I say this?" Luca leaned forward, placing the cuffs of his tailored suit that it laid flat on the tablecloth. "Whatever emotion you saw in my eyes on that day, whatever it was, it was for the sake of being alive for my family. Someone's gotta help keep the business up and runnin'. None of it works if I'm not there."
Teresa stares at Luca. This man wasn't wrong. It wasn't like he was running everything in his family all on his own. His father led the family in Birmingham that Angel was a part of, even his mother lived with them, but what makes New York so important and comforting to Luca must have felt like a whole outlet of anything he ever accomplishes, how many Tommy guns he can hold and keep in his home like picture frames, how many men he has to hire from Sicily and America just to help kill one family. All of that was justified when he boarded that train to the Liverpool docks.
"Oh," Teresa straightened her back. "So much for being the big, bad capo."
"Be careful," Luca warned, pointing a finger at her. "Don't question a gangster's honour."
"You know I crack jokes here and there," Teresa's lips curled into a smirk as it reached the rim of her glass.
"So do I," said Luca.
She looked down at his hands that rested on the table. His experienced, non-scrawny hands that had a black hand tattooed on his wrist, one with a crown, and maybe some other new ones Luca got over time. She used to kiss all of them, even the one on his neck that was a cross. His right hand was wrapped with big, gold rings on two fingers, except he only kept his ring finger free of anything, that was something she wanted to bring up. "You got all those rings on your fingers but not a wedding ring.
"Not like you got one on yours, either. Unless you took it off before coming here," Luca jokes.
She shakes her head. "I've been too busy to fall in love with another soul. But you? You didn't tie the knot with Viviana back in New York?"
Luca scowled, knowing Teresa hadn't forgotten about that woman as he did. "No. I still see her occasionally."
"Yet you haven't done anything with her? Never bothered to find anyone to satisfy your mother?"
"My mother says any woman from New York or even from the old country would do."
"What did you say, after?"
"Mamma, you're killin' me.'" Teresa had to chuckle at that, Luca smiled at her. He then looked around the bar, seeing how more of the guests had gotten up to dance with their dates as the jazz music cranked up their higher tunes like a machine. "Don't tell me we're gonna be sitting here all fuckin' night. You wanna dance, Miss Tour Guide?"
The nickname he gave to her the first time. Did he really sit in front of her and tell her he couldn't remember everything they had, then? "I'm a little rusty," Teresa declines.
'We gotta stretch our legs somehow. I ain't even see your whole getup for the night."
Teresa had no problem getting up from the booth. She stepped out so that her heels were shown as well, and she placed the fur shawl down on her seat so her shoulders were out. The dress wasn't purchased by Luca, but by her, and she felt like a Grand Princess, like a little girl playing with their mother's dresses and makeup. She was never too insecure about her looks since it never bothered her, but she felt beautiful, and she wondered if Luca will still ever see her as beautiful whether or not she is clothed in front of him.
Luca kept on staring. "Then perhaps we can head somewhere else," he suggests. "Somewhere we're both quite familiar with."
How and why didn't matter, the young man who looked to be around Arthur Shelby's age paid no second thought to his surroundings as he aggressively snuffed the thick lines of cocaine that formed on the ledge up his nostril. He begins wiping away any excess off his face, exiting the balcony seats just as the Italian mobster escorts Teresa inside the dark theatre to their respected spots.
"You're a lover of theatre," Teresa spoke quietly as the show resumed to its first act.
"If you dress like one, you are one." Luca hooked his leg over the other, folding his hands on his lap.
It was silent, not the awkward or tense silence, but silent to respect and see the performance. Silence or absolute noise, the stage was the latter. The good kind of noise. The skimpy dancers twirled with batons, the man and woman playing the perky main lovers belted the note they must have spent days and nights rehearsing over and over.
Luca knew there would be performances every night back in New York City. There was always something to do and somewhere to go, otherwise you'd be glued to your chairs at home.
The show was about to end, and Luca, for the first time in God's glorious mysterious time, took Teresa by the hand and curled them together on his lap, his eyes were fixated to theatricality in front of the hundreds of people.
Teresa reacts, slowly looking down. It was nearly dark, but she could feel the giant, lumpy rings from his fingers bump into hers. He always held her hand during a show, and would only let go to join the applause when a number came to its big finish, or when the grand finale brought hypnotic joy and bliss in each audience member's senses like himself that he just had to give the standing ovation.
But just as the audience erupted in deafening applause, cheers and whistles, Luca and Teresa remained the only two members seated, their hands still holding.
HIS hotel room was neat and tidy before he left, now the sheets on the giant bed wrinkled like aged skin when Luca held Teresa down to remove her stockings. She missed his touch. The feeling of being pinned on a bed as he dominated over her, practically tearing what she wore for the occasion just to see her underneath as a sight for his sore eyes, it was definitely there, and her heart pounded.
"Luca," she breathed out a moan. He kissed her softly, now only responding with pacing movements, from positioning her to grabbing the protection from the nightstand drawers. Though he was careful with the dress and fur shawl that was set on the office desk he sat in earlier, within seconds her brassiere was tossed on the floor. With the help from Teresa, she managed to undress Luca from head to toe by just sitting up, and he was now unclothed from the fresh tailored suit his uncle made back in Mott Street.
They kissed again, and Luca went in.
+ me writing "smut": 🧿👄🧿 but ooooo shiiiit their “business” meeting was quite a night lol.

Dancing lessons
Barry Berkman x reader
Summary: Barry is finally cast in a feature, the problem? He said he could dance and now he can either disappoint Sally or found a way to learn some steps.
Warnings: Swearing, blood, violence, guns, cheating maybe.
Part 1 ● Part 2 ● Part 3 ● Part 4 ● Part 5 ● Part 6 ● Part 7 ● Part 8 ● Epilogue
Part 2
One week after the first time Barry meet Y/N he was nowhere near learning tango, let alone dancing on the level his stupid resume said he could, he only have ended with horrible pain on his knees, thighs and back. And he hasn't even practice dancing with music yet, apparently his instructor thought he first had to learn one basic step and repeat it a million times before he could start doing the "flashy and presumptuous" step, as she called them, that the director may want.
"You really don't have to worry" Sally said during breakfast, they have an agreement to spend the night at least twice a week in each other apartment but he could tell she rather if he stayed at hers since Jermaine and Nick didn't get along with her. "That girl you say is dancing with you, I just heard from Lindsay that she is totally sleeping with the director so probably the scene is an excuse to show her dancing talent and they will be focusing on her instead of you" She drank the rest of her orange juice and stood up quickly "God is so late" she checked her phone and gave him a kiss on the cheek before taking her purse and keys and rush to the door "I'll see you tonight ok? Good luck!"
"Bye, I love..." And then she was gone. "You" He finished his breakfast and took his own car to the studio where he had to finish filming his scenes.
"Barry you're here, excellent!" Andre said when he arrived, thankfully he was not the star of the film and he didn't have to listen the hundred of notes he had for the leads nor taking all the shit the PAs get from him. "Look" He said pointing at his tablet "Janice is on New York for three more weeks for a Ballet presentation, but she sent this to me, is the perfect choreography for the scene. What do you think?" He showed her a clip of Janice and some professional dancer with a song he didn't knew, probably in Spanish or Italian, dancing incredibly close, with several lifts and spins.
"Great" He said feeling dizzy "Flashy and presumptuous" He add really low.
"What was that?"
"Classy and marvelous, is a modern take on the Argentine style isn't?" He said repeating what Y/N had said to him the day before.
"I have no idea, but hey you are the expert" He gave him a pat on the back. "You can start rehearsing with Janice when she gets back" He didn't like that kind of touching, it reminded him of Fuches and make him feel uneasy.
"Sure, great, hey could you send me that video, you know to study her movements" he tried to sound casual and not frightened as he was.
"Yeah sure" he said and with a hand gesture urged him to move to the set where he got to start shooting.
The minute he was over he drove back to Y/N's studio and saw her giving her class to young girls all dressed as ballerinas, she was wearing a black seetrough dancing skirt over a leotard, and his eyes lingered on her legs a few seconds more than he should mesmerized as he was by the elegance she used to dance.
"Barry you are early" She saluted him with a smile, "Girls say hi to Mr. Block" she said at the mass of pink and white.
"Hi Mr. Block" They cheered.
"I'll be done in a few minutes but this really is a private rehearsal" She pat her lips with one finger thinking "Would you mind waiting upstairs? I mean I would hate for you to drive back home to come back in less than an hour, and the coffee place on this block sucks" She said and the girls start laughing "Don't tell your mothers" She quickly add.
"I don't want to be a burden"
"Oh nonsense, you are not, go upstairs, I have food on the fridge but I wouldn't recommend it since you are dancing later and the WiFi password is written next to the phone" She insisted and he finally accept.
The apartment was just a little bigger than the one he rented with Jermaine and had a nice walls on a blue shade that reminded him of the ocean. And a big window facing directly to the door, so the first thing you see when you entered were the rooftop of other buildings and the hills in the back.
He entered feeling himself as an intruder, but being honest that was a common feeling for him, even if he haven't break in any place in over a year, a very long year, and again the pain of thinking of Fuches maybe lurking around strike him in the chest.
He found a place to sit and after being 5 minutes in complete silence trying to not be alone with his thoughts he took out his laptop to watch the dance again. Next to the landline was a nice picture of Y/N on his wedding dress next to a man that must be her husband with golden letters and numbers written over: JPTLV150813.
Once he was connected he allow himself to look around, the living room was tastefully decorated and there were some framed paintings of wild flowers on the wall in purples and pinks. He glance at their dinner table in the other room next to her kitchen, and while he was still holding he picture his mind start wandering, maybe Sally would like to live with him in a place like that. Full of light and peaceful.
He picture himself waking every morning and walking towards the kitchen to make her breakfast, she getting out of the set exhausted, to get a glass of wine in the living room. Reading lines together in the couch, and falling asleep there watching a movie.
And then since he hadn't sleep wery well and Y/N couch was madly comfortable he fall asleep still holding the picture and suddenly Sally's face start fading away, and Y/N replaced her, in a blue version of the clothes she was wearing earlier, he saw himself dancing with her on the living room, a slow and romantic rhythm, and instead of her husband it was him smiling on the picture next to the phone. She would come upstairs tired from work and he would stop her at the door to give her a passionate kiss... then the sound of a gun going off came from the window and a blood stain start forming in her chest running and she collapsing on his arms, and then it was Sally lifeless body again who he was holding and she whispered before losing her breath You did this and fearful he looked at his own hand holding the gun...
"Barry?" Y/N's voice came from the door, and immediately woke up and shake those horrifying ideas from his mind.
"Here" He call from the couch and was careful enough to not look back and don't picture her covered in blood
"I'm so done, boy I'm glad you came upstairs, Amanda's mother is a pain in the ass, if she have seen you she would have called the cops or something" She said and sit in next of him, she was already wearing the heels she used to practice with him. "What you got there?" She said looking at the screen where the video of Janice was still on.
"Is the dance I'm supposed to do for the movie" He said glad to have something to said and he showed her the clip.
"Well... you are screwed" She said after it was finish and he gave her an imploring look. "I'm kidding, I mean is a monstrosity of showing off, and her technique is not perfect, but I'm pretty sure you can put together something, like Ed Sheeran on Thinking out loud". She said confidently.
"Who?" He asked with no idea of what she meant.
"He is a British singer, we are probably too old to know him, but couples come all the time trying to learn his routine for their wedding" She said, but his face was still puzzled "You are not very familiar with pop culture, for an actor living in L.A. I mean" She stood up and walked towards her kitchen "Do you want anything? I have wine, beer, orange juice?" She called from the other room.
"Beer is fine, and is because I only became an actor recently" He said with some embarrassment in his voice taking the bottleshe offered him "I used to amm... sell auto parts in Cleveland"
"Ohio, that's ... far" she said taking a sip of her drink.
"And before that I was a Marine" He add and she almost spit her beer but did her best to pass it down.
"Oh wow, that's unusual. I would definitely say thank you for your service, but I'm antiwar so what if I gave you a 10 percent off on the lessons and we call it even?" She grin at him
"Don't worry about that, I don't like to make a big deal about it anyway" He said sincerely "Also I'm pretty sure you are wasting your time with me"
"Don't be so harsh on yourself, here look" She took the laptop off his hands and found a video of a ginger man singing a cheezy song about eternal love "See he is not properly dancing, but he act like he is, so first you have to learn how to lead, come on take off your shoes"
"Take them off? Why?" He asked while she got rid off her heels and let her bare feet touch the wooden floor.
"Because, and I mean this with respect" She said standing and looking for a record to put in her old record player until she found one "You are huge, and I'm afraid you would step on me with those shoes" a slow rhythm start playing and he did what she asked and stood barefoot in front of her.
"That doesn't sound like the other songs" Although he like it.
"Because you have to learn to walk before you can run, now, put both of your hands on my hips" She said getting closer to him.
"Like this?" It was funny how without the heels she was way shorter and couldn't completely reach her neck so she settled for put both hands on his shoulders.
"Fine now listen to the music and move" She said moving her body rhythmically "There you go, now move me, lead, right or left, is your choice" She said letting him take small steps and occasionally looking down to watch his feet.
"This is not that bad actually" Barry was actually enjoying himself, then the music start going faster and she took his right hand on hers and pull away from him and he chose to ignore the feeling of lost that caused him.
"Now, the hand on my back has to be steady, and lead, we can spin" She said and taught him how "Or we can walk" She started walking back slowly letting him follow the steps at his own pace. "Is all about who is leading" She gave him a smile and they kept dancing until the music was ending and since he had confidence now he make her spin and catch her on his arm like Janice's partner did on the clip.
"Sorry I always wanted to try that" he said once she was standing next to him.
"It was great, you are getting it, now we can try to improve your actual steps, but we should go downstairs, my husband is about to comeback and he hates having music on when he is working" She put on her shoes again and walked out followed by Barry.

Grand Announcements (ch 1?)
Summary: Tom is doing an interview game with Y/N his new co-star for a upcoming work of his and things turn more personal. Something he has kept secret reveals itself.
Characters: Tom, Y/N, Karly (OC portrayed by Nicole Power aka Shannon on Kim's Convience), Lillia (OC; I used a old photo of me but only because the features match and that felt less creepy than using a random pinterest photo lol; IT IS NOT ME)
Warnings: none this chapter? Coparenting after the ending of a toxic relationship but remaining friends and getting along great
"Are you ready, Tom?" You ask sitting on the couch across from him. The channel you are going this for has a sofa and they asked you to face each other.
"Have we started?" You ask the camera guy who nods. "Okay, ready?" You ask Tom again as you both shift and shuffle to get comfortable and are both trying not to laugh as you have to stare at each other as part of the game.
"I suppose," he answers nervously, "wait," he takes a second to pull himself together, "not awkward at all, you have lovely eyes by the way"
"Guys, comeon," you pretend to complain, "thankyou, not at all," you laugh. "Could you explain the game to me one more time please?" "Okay, they asked fans questions and chose some for us to answer but we have to answer them as honestly as possible and we have to face each other nad look in each other's eyes the whole time so we can say if the other isn't being honest"
"Alright, I am ready. These are the ones that were chosen for you?" He looks at the paper in his hand. "Yeah, do you want to go first and then I can, we can alternate"
"Yes, alright. The first question is, have you ever done anything illegal that you regret?" "No," he glances to you and reads your features.
"Is she telling the truth, Tom?" "Yes, she is," after spending so many months together you could both tell the tell tell give aways of when the other was telling a fib. He knew if you were lying that you would blush or do something obvious.
"Okay, your first question. Have you ever had a crush on an older co-star?" "Oh, goodness yes," he admits with a laugh. "Oh my God, who!?" "Micheal Fassabander." (Sorry if I mispelled that) "He's telling the truth," you roll your eyes.
"Do you have any piercings?" Tom reads the question but looks at it confused, "wait, if you did wouldn't they be visi-oh, Y/N, you don't have to answer that if it is too personal and you're uncomfortable," he says being the gentleman he is. "Relax Tom, I will just say maybe" "I'll accept that, is that alright?" He asks the camera guy who simply shrugs like sure. "We shall leave that to the imagination," Tom reassures you even though you didn't mind.
"Okay, do you have any secrets?" You look up at him. "Secrets," he thinks very quickly, "no"
"You paused, he's lying."
"I wouldn't consider this a secret, it is known...just not to everyone and if it is alright I would prefer to keep it that way," he explains. "Do I know?" You ask curiously and now concerned because you were like his extended Marvel family now with how close the two of you were. "No....," he answers hesitantly and honestly. "Would you like to keep it that way or maybe we can talk after?"
"Guys~," the host clears his throat to gather the attention of you and your best friend and coworker.
"Apologies," Tom gives a friendly smile.
"How many people know?" You keep going and ignore him. "Including myself?" "Mhm" "Including me, only two"
"Tom, this is something you have-"
"Ahh, Lilly, shh~, no come back!" A whispered shout comes from just off the set in the back. You as well as the hosts turn, and Tom.
"Daddy, I here! I has mash'tatos'!" A little person runs to Tom and climbs to his lap, holding a little bowl of mashed potatoes. He looks around awkwardly but the hosts hadn't stopped filming yet.
"Hello Lillia darling, did you now? Where is your mum?" He accepts the taste from her spoon that she offers him. "We wents Bob Evans," she announces. He smiles and stands with her. "I apologize, excuse me. Y/N, uhm-this is Lillia, Lilly, this is Y/N"
"Hi," she smiles at you and lays her head against his shoulder, kissing his cheek. "Lilly, eat your potatoes darling-"
"Hello," you return the smile, "this is what we were just talking about, right?" He nods, "yes." "It is lovely meeting you Lilly, want to walk around with me?" "Okay," she shimmies to get down, he sits her on her feet and straightens out her ruffled up poofy floral dress.
"Sorry," a pretty lady with dark brunette hair and goregous brown eyes makes her way over, fast as he can in her heels.
"Hi, I'm Y/N." "Hi, I'm Carly, Tom has told me so much about you." "I can't say the same, I didn't know he was a dad, or married"
They both look to each other and double over laughing so hard they hold their abdomens in pain. They try to speak while leaning on each other's shoulders but neither can properly speak through laughter, "us?" She manages. "She and I? Marr-," he adds. "No, no, no, no, no." They both finally speak actual words in unison. "Very happily not married," she reittorates, "oh, which reminds me, Tom, the date is next Saturday." "Yes, I haven't forgotten, I have her until then?" "As promised," she smiles and kisses his cheek, he returns the gesture, "oh, he's waiting we have dinner I have to go. Y/N, so nice meeting you and Tom, a date! Don't not do it!" She points at him as he leaves walking backwards, after ofcourse kissing Lillia goodbye.
He laughs and waves.
"Wow, you two aren't together? You're sure?"
"Absolutely positive. We are better as friends, the date she is talking about is her wedding," he clarifies with a laugh.
"I got dress," Lilly announces. "Oh?" You and Tom ask with peaked curiousity. "Yes, it is poofy, I can do this," she spins around and Tom quickly confiscates her potatoes. "What color is it?" You ask her. "Green," she reaches for her beloved potatoes just taken from her so cruelly. "You have to be still," he pets her head ever so gently and gives them back after eating some.
"I love her already," you laugh. "Really?" Tom asks surprised, but he looked the opposite of upset as he smiled ear to ear. You smile taking that in before noting that she had his big ears. "Yes?"
"That is actually great news. See, I told Karly I would find a date to take to the ceremony and I thought to ask you first but I didn't know how to tell you about Karly or Lilly, and I didn't know how you would take it...."
"First off, I am honred to be the first to know, and secondly, nothing would make me happier. Should I also wear green?" "Yes, I believe her colors are green and white and thankyou"

'Thank you, I guess. The issue here is that she's not the only one that I lost. All my loved ones, friends and family included, vanished from my life, either dead or just gone. I'm not a stable person. My mind is fucked up, one day I want to let go of everything and jump from the roof of a building while the other I want to break some bones. It just... doesn't make sense anymore. My life, me even. And I don't know why I'm telling you all that but since you and I are gonna live under the same roof for god knows how long, you should probably know who I really am. I'm not a nice person, Vee. I'm toxic as hell.'
Breathing deeply I didn't dare look at you, too ashamed of what I was doing. Since when I opened up that way?
'And I want you to know that I'm sincerely sorry for what happened to you. The night we spent together was amazing and if I had to redo everything I would still chose you. But, I've never meant to hurt you in any way. Unfortunately I did though and nothing could fix it. But that's linked to what I'm saying since earlier, I'm not someone you can trust because I can't even trust myself. As soon as the issue with the Yamaguchi-gumi is over, I'll disappear from your life.'
Finally reaching the mall's parking I quickly changed the subject without even giving you time to answer. I didn't need one anyway, I knew that people were avoiding me like the plague. And I also knew that the less I was mingling with innocents like you, the better you were. Even if that meant for me to stay alone.
'Just pick everything you want, I'm following you so choose a store and we'll be fine'
You looked uncomfortable at first, probably because you weren't used to be in that type of situations.
Raising an eyebrow at you I chuckled at your indecision.
'I'm gonna choose for you then yeah?'
Taking you by your wrist I dragged you to the first store I found, Gucci.
You kept tugging on my wrist to let you go, saying that there were other shops way cheaper.
'Do I look poor to you Vee? Koko is in charge of Bonten's money, I'm rich. Pick whatever you want or I'll do it for you and it won't be covering an inch of your body.'
Understanding the meaning you took the hint and strolled through the alleys of the shop. The sellers were all around you and it made me laugh because you looked so out of place.
That was cute and refreshing for my dead heart.
At the end you opted for few hoodies and sweatpants.
The next shop was a French brand, Dior I think?
In that one you've chosen some dresses and heels.
And the list went on and on, I was pleasing you and it made me happy.
You chose some sneakers and other stuff like makeup -don't ask me what was what, I wouldn't know.
'Thank you Mikey for everything, you're like my sugar daddy'
I knew you were only teasing but I couldn't help myself. Sliding one arm around your shoulder I whispered to your ear.
'I can be if you want me to'
You were going for the exit of the mall when I pulled you close again.
'You don't have any underwear right? And Victoria Secret is right here. Care to take a look?'
Grinning at your expression, I dragged you into the store, impatient to see what they got.
-Mikey
Mikey as a sugar daddy?? Might write something about that at some point 🤭
deep down i KNEW this was gonna happen. mod your brain is so BIG.
There’s nothing much I can do but allow him to pull us inside the lingerie store. Cheeks burning at the scantily clad mannequin in the display.
Immediately I’m flocked by attendants, rapid-fire questions hurled at me from all angles about my cup and bust size, the width of my hips. When I take too long, they assure me that they’ll measure me properly, tape already in their hands. Barely having a chance to utter a word, I’m even more speechless while they work, wrapping the tape around my waist, back, along my thighs and hips, and my chest, shouting an array of numbers, letters or combinations of both between themselves.
They clap when they’re done, giggling about how they’re gonna find me the cutest sets to wear for my boyfriend and I send a panicked, bug-eyed look to Mikey as we disappear through the aisles. He doesn’t even look phased, sending me a small wave while the shopping bags from all the other stores we’ve hit huddle around his feet like little kids.
Thongs. So many thongs.
They toss hundreds of them into my bag, some with the matching bra to complete the set, cooing how they’ll look so good on me, and how irresistible I’d look wearing them.
He’ll want to rip them off you, one gushes, winking. And I realize they’re talking about Mikey.
I flush again. They had no idea how much he liked ripping clothes.
Wait. I stumble back at my thoughts. Was I insinuating that I wanted Mikey to rip my clothes off? Shaking my head to rid myself of that kind of thinking, I follow behind them, voicing how I also wanted to go for comfort rather than just… appealing to the senses.
They understand me and carry me towards a section full of cheekies, boyshorts and underwear. My shoulders slump in relief— they covered much more than thongs did. When we finally regroup at the cash register, I have more underwear in my bag than I had in my drawers at home. Being spoiled like this would’ve made me swoon in another life, but I couldn’t help but feel like a burden to Mikey, especially with what he confided in me today.
I frown into his head as he moves to pay. He describes himself all wrong. He wasn’t toxic. He was broken, chewed up by life and spat out into a world where there weren’t healthy coping mechanisms to handle the buildup of trauma he accumulated. I wonder briefly to myself why I hadn’t told him that when I had the chance. That’s when I see it— red.
What happened to your hand? I gasp, taking it into mine.
He quickly tries to pull away, but I snatch it back subtly, so as not to alert the cashier of our mini power struggle. I scrutinize the wounds, gaping at the smeared red that had crusted over crimson from neglect. These wounds were fresh. More than that, they were naked, untreated, practically begging for an infection.
Here you are, the cashier beams at us, completely unaware of the tension between us, just high knowing she was the worker attached to such a big sale.
Mikey takes the bag with his uninjured hand. He has no other choice, I won’t let the other one go.
We walk out of the store and into the crowd of people again, chaos ensuing all around us.
Wanna go somewhere else? He asks. I know he’s trying to distract me from the obvious problem sitting atop his knuckles, but I’m onto him. Better yet, I have an idea.
Answering with, Yeah, I’m the one tugging him around, looking aimlessly at stores until I find the one I wanted— a convenience store. To buy supplies to wrap his wound. Properly.
I treated injured pets at my job every day and I was going to treat him too, even if I had to knock him out to do it.
