Ninjago season titles in Korea

I no longer watch Ninjago, but sometimes I would have reminiscence and today I decide to introduce the season titles in Korea. Enjoy

Season 1 - Green Ninjago(그린 닌자고)

Obviously the 'Green' is for the green ninja, which is the key point of this season

Season 2 - Gold Ninjago(골드 닌자고)

Just like Green Ninjago, 'Gold' is for the golden ninja. Why isn't it 'Golden' is something I don't know either

Season 3 - Ninjago Rebooted(닌자고 리부티드)

That rare case which the season title hasn't been changed in Korea

Season 4 - Titanium Ninjago(티타늄 닌자고)

'Titanium' is for Zane, the titanium ninja. Somehow the title isn't something related to the Tourmament of Elements. I guess it's suppose it's because Zane is why this season happened

Season 5 - Ghost Ninjago(고스트 닌자고)

The enemies are ghosts, so there you go, Ghost Ninjago

Season 6 - Ninjago vs Sky Pirates(닌자고 대 스카이해적)

Just like Ghost Ninjago, the enemies are sky pirates. And since they are the enemy, put vs in it. So there you go, Ninjago vs Sky Pirates

Special - Ninjago: Day of the Ghost(닌자고 유령의 날)

Day of the Ghost is Day of the Departed. We have a word for departed, but I guess it's a difficult word for children. So they put ghost instead, I guess

By the way, in Korea there was an event where you can go to the premiere at a movie theater. Of course the special was aired on TV later, but still it was cool back then

Season 7 - Ninjago Timeblade(닌자고 타임블레이드)

Instead of using the Hands of Time as the title, they put the weapons, time blades in the title

Season 8 - Ninjago: Masters(닌자고 마스터즈)

To be honest, I have no idea why it's called Ninjago Masters. Yes, Lloyd is now a master, but is there a need for the title to be plural? Also no relation to the villains either. The title that confuses me the most

Season 9 - Ninjago: Dragon Hunter(닌자고 드래곤 헌터)

Just like season 5 and 6. The enemies are dragon hunters, so Ninjago: Dragon Hunter

Season 10 - Ninjago: Goblin Invasion!(닌자고 도깨비 습격)

I think I'll have to make a long explanation for this

Goblin(도깨비), is what Oni is called in thr Korean version. In Korea, we tend to change Japanese words to something else. For example Sensei Wu was called 'Master Wu' since the pilot in Korea

Usually anything that is Oni is translated are 도깨비(Dokkaebi). Back then the when people think about Dokkaebi, they imagine it just like Oni. So might be fair to translate it like that, to a word the Korean audience is used to

However Dokkaebi and Oni are not the same. Dokkaebi is more like a supernatural spirit who isn't scary but rather playful. They were thought as similar since the colonization of Japan, but recently being seperated again

Anyway it's called Goblin Invasion. Also exclamation mark

Season 11 - Ninjago: Ninja of Fire vs Ice Emperor

So season 11 is seperated to Fire arc and Ice arc, and in Korea they put that fire and ice together in the title. Ice Emperor is in the title since he is the key character in the Ice arc. But...isn't Ninja of Fire vs Ice Emperor like, lying to the audience?

Season 12 - Ninjago: Level up into the Game!(닌자고 게임 속으로 레벨 업!)

(I started watching Ninjago less than before since this season, so I'm quite unsure of the title origins from now on)

The ninja go into the game, so there you go, Level up into the game!

Season 13 - Ninjago: Into the Skull Dungeon!(닌자고 스컬 던전 속으로!)

There is a dungeon, there is a skull sorcerer, so there you go, Into the skull dungeon! Also exclamation mark has been made for two seasons

Special - Ninjago: The Unknown Island(닌자고 미지의 섬)

So they just added 'unknown' in the season title. That's it.

Season 14 - Ninjago: The Unknown Sea(닌자고 미지의 바다)

For what I know this season has connection with the special, so I guess why it has 'unknown' just like the special

Season 15 - Ninjago: Crystal of Darkness(닌자고 어둠의 크리스털)

So this season has crystals made by the Overlord, right? So yeah, that's why it's crystal of darkness, since it's the crystal made by the Overlord

New Season - Ninjago: Dragon Rising(닌자고 드래곤 라이징)

That rare case which the season title hasn't changed in Korea, again. They put out the s, but that's quite normal in literally using the english title in Korea.

Well, that's it for the season titles. So far all of the season titles are changed except for rebooted and dragons rising. If I have the energy I might come back for some name changes in Korea

Decades Doever

A little idea I had laying in my bed. The basic thought process was: Ninjago's two characters who have literally been sent to a realm to rot in for literal DECADES. Morro, who's already struggling with his own exile from the departed realms finds a manipulated Zane and manipulator Vex. I mean both of them can't grow too old, and Morro probably would want a redemption for his deeds, the white ninja may be his path to doing it. Zane is interested in the departed realm, hearing that Morro is from it (even if it's not in the most pretty ways), it intrigues him to learn more about the former ghost, and how he may see his father one day. More Info underneath the cut!

Morro's literal backstory Once an elemental master dies they can not only see their family in the departed realm, but if they are not blood related nor can remember their family (cough cough, Zane), they can also meet the departed elemental masters that came before them. The little groupings of elemental masters hold great power, having the ability to traverse the 16 realms but regarded as something different than a ghost, more similar to a peaceful spirit or aura passing by. Unable to be seen by the living, sometimes depending on their mental will having the ability to converse in dreams and visions. When Morro finally get's sent to the Departed realm, as an orphan and being 50+ years old he cannot simply remember his family, so he get's sent and transported to the elemental grouping of Wind Masters. They don't like him. And so after a rather horrid argument the elders, the first elemental master of wind (FMOF), decides to send them down to never-realm, being previously used as a waste deposal of other Elemental Master's (more than just wind) that have gone "rogue" in the Departed Realm. The FMOF graced some mercy to Morro, convening with one of the form masters in order to see that they could return him in some sort of ghostly form, if they sent them down there as is, it would result him becoming living once more. Morro being the wonderous human (ish) being he is stumbles across this conversation, eaves dropping and taking notes. So when the final ritual(?) takes place he lashes out and does his best to ruin the spell, the only thing being that: 1. It works 2. He's not alive, and instead, has been merged with the storm. There he goes barreling down into the artic wasteland that provides an abundance of wind and storms to command, but despite the feast-like appearance of power and his element, Morro knows and regards this as a banishment. Dude got banished from death itself.

How Zane is connected in any of this Being also wonderfully banished and sent to the Never-Realm (via: Aspheera, Nacho Snake lady) he is also lost on his way. The only canon divergence or well difference being, when he's holding a staff he can feel another, stronger, rivaling, presence. Zane tries his best to fix the mech and eventually get's memory wiped by Vex. Back to the main plot line Morro additionally the counteracting sensation of another elemental power, and although it's not as strong as he isn't a master of Spinjitzu, he still senses it and decides to drift off on a storm cloud in that direction. Reaching the cave just when Zane plugs himself into the mech, disregarding the staff in general (in this AU I don't think young Wu would've told him about it), being confused in the slightest before getting a rush of Lloyd's memories he intercepted during possession of the titanium ninja, and dashing away behind the mech when he hears Vex's footsteps. Watching the whole exchange happen before his eyes, he decides to step in at the last moment, using his cool (very new) lightning powers. Being a somewhat super battle with the staff that he's honestly wonders how the ninja got a hold of, and his amplified form. During the exchange he does lay hands upon the staff and his powers go A-wire, somewhat breaks space and time, smacks Zane in the noggin to regain select memories. Vex fleeing the scene and barely recovering Zane prying Morro; who's form and right hand is practically melding into the staff, away from the supercharged stick. Although both mutually dislike each other they suppose they are both in the predicament of needing company for the days, weeks, and unbeknown to them, years to come. Morro not knowing how robotics or in general any mechanics in Zane works, opts for the: I'll just sit here and regret my decision as my partial robot friend has a reoccuring flashbacks for several decades while having an ongoing existential crisis I am little help to. Zane does believe Morro holds some interesting tales and description on, why and specifically how both are here. Morro just thinking it's something he can do to make up for acts, probably go see Lloyd (despite him probably bolting as soon as he see's the green gi), and maybe just maybe get somehow reaccepted back into the departed realms.

Titanium Ninja actually kind of fucks, though

So I rewatched the last episode of season 3. A pretty mid season, right? Well that final episode fucks in all the ways that made my brain vibrate as a 12 year old. So let’s fucking go I need everyone to appreciate this episode.

First up, ninjas trapped in space. Alright. There’s already no solution to this that isn’t bullshit, so just make it cool. Well, I like that they had to use their abilities and knowledge to make the ship instead of tornado of creation-ing it. Really shows how much they’re capable of when they work together!

“How we holding up?” “Bubblegum and a wish!” As they fucking send it. What a legendary line. It burned itself into my brain for years to come and is a part of my standard lexicon.

“Hasn’t Ninjago suffered enough already?” She asks, on season 3 out of what is now 17.

Overlord’s face is kinda silly but the mech honestly kinda slaps.

“My heart has reached critical mass, it appears my unlimited energy is in fact limited!” “Critical mass? You mean it’s gonna blow up?” “Don’t worry about me!” AHJGHSJKG See kids, this is what we call foreshadowing.

Okay but seriously, now that they’re in the atmosphere, they use their elemental powers to shield themselves as they come in from from orbit like goddamn meteors. Is it bullshit? Yes. Do I care? Absolutely the fuck not.

Skales saying they can’t help the people of Ninjago then doing it anyway? Love him for that. Because he presumably sees the ninjas and is like “ugh these fuckers again. Well if they did it once-”

The city recognizing the ninja as they plummet towards the earth as multicolored meteors? There had better be folk songs about this. I’m surprised there isn’t a church. Saviors from the stars here to kill Satan.

Man, people still getting a haircut as the Overlord attacks. Frickin iconic. No wonder people handled season 9 so well.

Also the ninja being caught by their vehicles. Does it make sense? Not really. But the animation for it is cool so once again, I am fully on board.

“A few parachutes would have been nice!” “Friends and family make a good substitute!” Fuck, I love Kai so much.

City fortress. Cloaked in blacks and reds in a dusky sky. What a sick image.

The fact that they were prepared to throw hands with the Overlord even before Borg came to them with a solution. These lil heroes I love them so much.

“Go back, and our probability of making it to the temple exponentially diminishes!” “This isn’t about numbers, Zane! It’s about family!” AAAGH the fact that that line came from Kai! Also, foreshadowing!

Cole whooping even as he’s running from certain doom, what an icon.

Lol the ancient seal of the temple being helped by a convenient barrier.

“Let me get this straight, you want us to get close to a guy with armor that, with one touch, will make us toast, and you want us to give him a pill?” “Precisely!” Oh Borg, never change. Unironically my favorite side character, I love this genius idiot so much. He’s just like “well if anyone can do it, it’s you lunatics” and it still feels like pot calling kettle black.

Zane offering his armor to Pixal!!! I love him! Even though he’s so big on probability, he’s so willing to give up his own safety for others!

“I shall see you again.” AAGH

Magic armor toysets!!

The ninja ninja-ing over rooftops will never not make my brain whir.

Okay the golden spiderweb thing goes kinda hard as a villain aesthetic, though. Great way to make the normally heroic golden colors look all evil!

That shot of the ninja, these tiny lil dudes, against this giant evil robot kicks so much ass though.

“Then attack the people.” Holy SHIT Pythor! What a dick move! And the fact that its his former second-in-command that comes to offer the people refuge is so good!

“That was ALL YOU’VE GOT!?” It sure was, but these ninjas are the masters of asspulls so watch yourself.

Okay now we’re getting to the scene. The scene. One of the best scenes in the show, and I am prepared to die on this hill. Actually, I’m prepared to kill on this hill. Because this scene is just fantastic, and has stuck with me vividly for years, even after I fell off the show back around season seven. If you had come up to 16-year-old Raven and told her to quote this scene, she probably could have done so.

“Support me friends, for one last time.” Never does Zane ever think of this as anything less than a group effort. Even here, he’s asking for their support! And they do what little they can!

Then this GOAT just fuckin grabs the armor and demands “Let! My! Friends! Go!” His voice cracking, as the music swells! The way he’s writhing makes him look like he’s in genuine agony but pushing through it anyway!

“Go where, doomed ninja?”

Then they show his fucking heartbeat! It’s robotic, but also very much so a human pulse! Because Zane is as alive as anyone! Then his faceplate falls off!

And you can see the Overlord’s expression change here as he starts running calculations, getting worried!

“The golden weapons are too powerful for you to behold! Your survival chance is ZERO!” “This isn’t about numbers. It’s about family!” What can I even say about this exchange? First of all, the Overlord is appealing to Zane’s survival, rather than his chance of SUCCESS. In all likelihood, he KNOWS that Zane is a threat right now, because that robot is channeling the power of his own armor. But Zane is not swayed by his own chance of survival.

Killing the moment a bit, looks like Zane is programmed in some wacky ass C++. Wonder if Dr. Julien could help me with my Arduino homework. Never was good with stepper motors. Anyway back to drama.

Then the ninja desperately wondering why Zane isn’t letting go, but Wu realizes. “He’s protecting us!”

“I! Am! A Nindroid! And Ninja! Never quit! Go ninja, Go!” There’s so much here. It’s like when he found his true potential on an infinitely larger scale. The Overlord will not hurt his friends, because he knows who he is: A nindroid that never quits, built to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

Also, “Go ninja, go!” Amazing how the addition of one extra “go” completely changes the mood. It sounds desperate, like he’s telling himself to go, to take the plunge, to give everything up, and he DOES that.

Then he just. Fuckin. Goes. What I imagine is happening here is that he is directly powering himself with the golden armor, channeling the Overlord’s golden power THROUGH his heart to boost his own elemental power. Completely frying himself in the process, but able to literally produce the power to kill Satan. 

“No Zane! No!” It being Jay, the one often considered the meek one, to be the first to run after Zane. As Wu has to force them all away, because he can’t lose all his ninja.

Then. The music change. The MUSIC CHANGE. This song. Let me tell you something. I just recently got back into Ninjago. And I was getting caught up on what I missed. Well, I was listening to a music compilation, and suddenly, this song started playing. I Ratatouilled so hard, y’all. I had a flashback to Zane having flashbacks, because this music is absolutely stunning.

His heartbeat plays over the music. The sounds of the fight fade away. As he recounts his time with his brothers. His time meeting his father again, even if it was for only a few short months.

“There’s something special about you Zane.” Cut to Pixal. Then cut to him smiling.

“I know who I am!”

“You were built to protect those who cannot protect themselves.” That’s it. That is the microcosm of Zane’s character. He protects people. He protects his family. And Zane can die happily if it means he has fulfilled that directive.

As he flatlines. Holy hell. I cannot stress enough the impact this had on me as a child.

One final (for now) NOOOOO from the Overlord, then it’s all quiet. The tower light goes out. The manhole freezes over. The robots break. It’s eerily soft compared to what was just happening. Like a single, soft exhale of breath.

Kai looks at a damaged “New Ninjago City” sign. This is symbolism.

And Cole finds a piece of Zane’s body! Is this the only surviving piece? It must be, and that’s devastating! Granted, a kids show probably can’t show what is essentially a corpse, but they don’t even have anything to bury!

Him comforting Nya as she starts to sob. Jay just looking away softly. And Borg. “I used to think technology would be the answer to all of our problems.”

Then it cuts to the memorial.

“Then I saw technology invent new problems. Devastating problems. And then, a Nindroid named Zane saved us all. He was the perfect balance between us and technology.” And nothing encapsulates that better than the heartbeat from a few seconds ago. The heartbeat of a human contained in a machine.

“Technology can improve our lives, but so can people.” The fact that they don’t fully demonize technology, which would be hypocritical seeing as Zane is technology. Instead, it’s all about balance!

“Our city will find its way again, but this time, with Zane as our compass.” Couple things here. First off. That this takes place in a park rather than an urban sprawl. Second, that the photo of Zane is of his season 1 outfit is nice! And that they’re going to look to Zane as an example of what technology should be.

And Zane gets a statue! I love this a lot. I love that it shows up in later seasons. Later on, Zane says he doesn’t need a statue. But it’s not even just about Zane, it’s for the people to remember Zane and his sacrifice by. To remember the mistakes that he fixed so that they don’t repeat them. The Titanium Ninja, a strong metal to act as a foundation for their future. It’s not complex symbolism, but it’s still extremely effective! No wonder I lost my mind at age 12.

Then his falcon sits on his shoulder, with the leitmotif playing! Agh! Just stab me in the heart already, show!

“So, what happens after this?” “I don’t know.” “And I don’t care. Today’s about Zane.” I have a lot of thoughts about this. First up, Jay completely not acknowledging the love triangle right now. He doesn’t care about that, because today IS about Zane. It’s so humanizing. And next up, we know what happens after this. In their grief, the ninja fracture. It’s tragic, but they’re all so devastated by their grief that they don’t know how to carry on together. This is a recurring thing in the show. When Nya becomes the sea, the team splits up. When Lloyd thought his friends died in Sons of Garmadon, he nearly gave up everything. For better or worse, these ninja need each other, they are a very tight-knit family. I wonder if the new series can touch on how they deal with being separated from each other on longer terms. Either way, this family loves each other so much, and I love that,

Kai being the one to give a eulogy. Literally I could type out that entire speech and point to line after line just being like Look! Look at this line! It’s amazingly eloquent, especially coming from Kai. Out of all the ninja, he’s always been the most family-oriented. He’s powered by brotherhood, and Zane continues to power him. We see this in season 4, when he visits Zane’s statue, that he still thinks about Zane every single day, still looking to him for guidance. He has so much love and respect for his family, but also can’t cope with yet another loss in his life.

Wu blinking rapidly as he ducks his head!! Dude is holding back tears big time.

.Dareth sobbing! He loves those funky ninjas too!

“Ninja never quit, and ninja will never be forgotten! Wherever you are Zane, you’ll always be one of us.” As it STARTS TO SNOW! AGH! This is so good!

All of Zane’s flashbacks before it’s revealed that he lived on in the Digiverse! At least before Ronin stole him, lol. Well either way, Pixal moving from grief to hope as she realizes he’s alive! Holy shit! I’d like to draw attention to her speech from crystallized. “Long ago, in a different battle, you gave up half your power source to save my life. Ever since that moment, I felt things I’ve never felt before. I felt love. For you.” Pairing these two moments together just... It hits so hard.

Then the fucking MUSIC. The FUCKING MUSIC! It is triumphant and glorious and a CELEBRATION.

“Are we compatible now?” Holy hell, what an ending.

No wonder this did irreparable damage to my brain chemistry. No wonder I was never normal again. This absolutely DESTROYED me as a kid, and I think it still holds up as one of the most emotionally impactful series of scenes in the show. The beginning is really awesome, the fights are fun, the characterization is stellar, and the death scene is damn near flawless. Is the episode nonsensical and a bit meandering at times? Well, yes, it is. The entire season is all over the place. But this episode still works SO well. I’d say it’s probably top five, easy.

It was something I never considered possible, as a kid. This is coming off season 2, which was pretty Lloyd-centric. I never thought we’d get such an amazing tribute to my, at the time, favorite character. I never thought he’d get such a moment in the spotlight to be as amazing as he was. Granted, he’s since had PLENTY of deaths to call his own, but this one remains the most impactful to me. This was the first death to REALLY be a death and to REALLY hit home. The only deaths that I’d say even come close are Nya’s death in Skybound (since she didn’t really die in Seabound) and Morro’s death for how brutal it is. Nya becoming the sea was also really good, though, with a beautiful funeral. But this one just...

The Titanium Ninja was a revolution for me as a kid. I had adored this show since the pilot. I had kept up religiously since the pilot. But this was the moment that the show went to a whole different level. And honestly, I think it holds up. Ninjago has a list of issues a mile long. But I just want to celebrate for a moment this episode, and everything it does so, so well.

Anyway, that’s my rant about an episode that I really love. I may do this again with episodes like Son of Lily. Because I love this stupid little show so much, guys. I grew up with it, and its always been a big part of my life. Episode 7, Tick Tock, was like, the biggest plot twist of the universe to me as a kid. It was what made Zane my favorite character, and got me so invested in him in the first place. To see Ninjago use that to make a genuinely fantastic character arc, then to use that as the foundation for the fourth season, was absolutely brilliant, and my life is genuinely better for having gotten to enjoy such a show as a kid and now as an adult. This show isn’t some life-changing revolution, but it makes me so happy, and I hope this rant helps illuminate a little bit of why.

dani's* a rubellite, zane's an off-colour titanium and they fuse to make eudialite. it's similar to garnet in how she fused out of love (just eudialite isn't a perma-fusion)

*(if you're not familiar with the lore, dani is an oc who zane meets at a hideout owned by the mechanic, basically hero to villain homosexuality. more info in the tag)

zane's gem looks like his power core seen in season 3, it might flip spinel style at some point but idk. dani's is a pentagon shape on his right forearm.

there's a big focus on pink in my au, it's not actually gems in canon but i'm gonna use it as a metaphor here:

basically at first zane is a regular titanium. upon meeting dani who is a pink rubellite he in turn becomes pink through their bond, hence the gem being off-colour

they also canonically play minecraft sometimes and have a cool minecraft world where they mine and craft

• Eyes: Ice blue. Weirdly reflective... as if made of metal... They kinda glow.

• Hair: White. His hair in later seasons is paler than in early seasons.

• Ethnicity: White? Asian? Hard to tell. I feel like Dr. Julien based Zane on his younger self, and Dr. Julien kinda feels like an old Chinese guy, but not to the extent of Chinese that Cyrus Borg feels. Maybe mixed Chinese American? Very pale.

• Build: The tallest of the group. He's pretty skinny, but not as skinny as Jay or Lloyd. I'd say slim but broad-shouldered, probably. He's angular in a way that doesn't feel completely human.

• Other: N/A (for now)

Zane (titanium)

• Eyes: Still ice blue, but the glow is much more noticeable.

• Hair: Metal, but not a solid block. It's actually individual wires.

• Ethnicity: Basically the same but metal.

• Build: Same build

• Other: He's got vents on the back of his head. Also, those lines on his face are where his faceplate meets his "cheekbones". His heart looks really cool, kinda like a portal.

Zane (Snake Jaguar)

• Eyes: Regular human Zane eyes

• Hair: White

• Ethnicity: Black

• Build: Same build

• Other: N/A

OKAY season 3 thoughts time. not as long but also s3 was like half the size:

worst thing first: the jay/naya/cole love triangle is so ...... bland. its got nothing going for it. like at this point in the show jay/naya honestly speaking doesn't really have a lot going for it. like we dont ever see them hang out or do fun stuff together as a couple or have any cute bonding scenes outside of jay being like "wowww nya hot" or anything. we dont have any real reason to root for them, so why they decided to introduce a love triangle is beyond me. like i guess its because they haven't done anything interesting with jay/naya and a love triangle is the easiest and blandest option possible, but like. come on. cole & naya barely interact in the season outside of cole fighting with jay and i'm really confused as to why we're supposed to think cole has any romantic interest in naya because they... have even less going for them than jay/naya. like man if we're gonna have a love triangle anyways i'd like to have any reason to root for at least one side. please. im not asking for much. make your characters hang out a bit and have some common interests and enjoy spending time together before you start telling me they're in love.

number two: im kind of obsessed with how garmadon's moral standards consistently disappear when it comes to lloyd. like pre this season he takes his vow of non violence or whatever but after lloyd gets captured it just. goes completely out the window. moral compass: son

number three: circling back to ninjago's inability to write a compelling romance i dont inherently mind zane/pixel (and its certainly got better writing than the.... uh . competition, if you want to even bother calling it that) but i do wish the writers would start out these romantic relationships with a much more solid platonic base. like its not the end of the world but i do wish it was more compelling.

number four: ZANE GIRLBOSSING IT THIS SEASON FINALE!!!!!!!!!!! this is one of the few things i did remember from like 8 years ago and for good reason its because hes literally perfect in every single way

number five: im nitpicking here but i think lloyd should get to swear. i think he's earned it

number six: this is more of a general observation than anything else but one thing i think is really . weird. about ninjago's writing is that it seems that every season they give the ninja new cool epic powers and then by the next one they get taken away. and like i understand the reasoning for this - its like when shounen writers keep giving their protagonist increasingly world-shattering powers and the power levels just keep getting more and more ridiculous, because if your original villain is "conquering the whole world and turning everybody evil" then theres only so much you can amp that up as the seasons go on without tacking on too many powers that nobody should be able to stand up to the hero anymore - but also its just. its just weird because i dont think ive ever seen anything like this.

okay i think thats abouttt it im, as always, very excited to get to some of the things i distantly recall (namely in particular the giant green eyeball thing and possibly a tournament / survival island arc that i think was a thing (???)) i know lots is in store and all i really want rn is character interactions. thats my dream i will honestly forgive so much as long as im having fun with the characters and dynamics in a series

ranking the ninja by how good they would be at cuddling

im touch deprived and this is my proof.

cole: by far the best cuddler. hes big but also soft. hes got pillow tiddies and big strong arms that were basically made for holdin. like laying on top of this mans or being held by him? basically heaven. hed just feel really secure and warm. might get a bit tough in the summer because hes so big and probably radiates a lot of heat, but its more comforting than it is unbearable.

jay: hes very holdable but could also hold you. he just seems like the kinda guy who enjoys cuddling and being close to you. he doesnt mind being squashed real close. honestly the only downside would be you gotta watch out for static.

nya: i wanna say shes probably a lil cooler to the touch, with her element being water and all that. so thats really good for summer. she probably likes holding you more than being held, but thats ok because shes another character that feels really safe and secure. she also has nice arms made for holdin.

lloyd: really similar to jay but this boy tiny, so its better for him to be held. like he enjoys cuddling, but its just typically harder for him to try and hold you because hes so small. i also feel like hed just kinda radiate energy off of himself without meaning to, because his element is energy. theres always the worry that that could translate to heat, which might make cuddling him a bit uncomfortable.

zane: good for cuddling in the warmer seasons but when winter hits? awful. its not like he can control it, but he does no favors for you in the winter. sure, in summer you could pile on blankets and still be fine, but once winter hits youre just gonna be freezing cold. theres also the question of if hed even be super comfortable to cuddle because hes a nindroid. sure he probably had some type of synthetic skin up until season 4, but would his titanium version even feel good to cuddle? because of all the metal?? maybe a full cuddle wouldnt feel. very nice, but being held by him or draping an arm across one another would probably be fine. being held by him would feel really safe, though.

kai: worst to cuddle for sure. its not because hes bad at it or anything, my boy just runs super warm. yeah its good for the winter and cool months, but summer?? absolutely unbearable. you could have as few clothes on as possible and still probably die of heat. i mean, i guess youll never really need a bunch of blankets. as much as it pains me to say, though, kai would for sure be bad to cuddle simply because hes too toasty. one cold season where having a higher than average body temperature unfortunately does not outweigh the other three fourths of the year.

So, what would have happened if Zane wasn’t the only person who got sent to the Never Realm?

Kai got in the way while Aspheera tried to banish Wu, but he and Zane both got sent to the Never realm.

snippet 1:

Vex looked at the strange objects that fell out of the sky. Another portal opened, and two people fell down. They landed on the snow, passed out. Vex looked at them. One was laying face down with brown hair and red clothing. The other facing up, wearing white and blue clothing and with titanium skin. The titanium one opened its eyes, and Vex hid.

Zane opened his eyes. He got up and noticed him sparking. He opened the top hatch on his chest and adjusted the inside. He closed it and looked around. “Hello?” He spoke. “Is anyone there?” He heard groaning and looked down. He spotted Kai.

“Kai!” Zane shouted as he bent down to Kai.

“Ugh,” Kai groaned. “Zane?”

Zane helped Kai up.

“What were you thinking?” Zane asked. “You could have been hurt or-”

“I didn’t want to lose you,” Kai said. “I tried to push you out of the way, but that didn’t seem to work.” He grabbed his right arm in pain.

“Are you alright?”

“I’m fine.”

Zane did a health scan.

“Your arm is broken.”

“Great.”

“Kai, you’re in pain.”

“Just leave it.”

“I am trying-”

“Do you think I could have handled you disappearing again? Stop worrying about me!”

Zane blinked. Kai sighed.

“I’m sorry, I don’t know where that came from.” Kai apologized.

“No, it’s fine...” Zane said. “I shouldn’t have sacrificed myself...again.” He looked at the green titan mech and climbed on top of it.

“Where are we?” Zane whispered to himself.

End of Snippet 1:

So Zane starts to on the green titan mech while Kai rests. Vex is watching the whole time. Zane notices a storm coming and realizes he and Kai need to take shelter. Zane knows he can’t leave the mech, so he tries to use his powers. That didn’t work, so he decides to use the forbidden scroll. He does so and tells Kai to get on the platform with the mech. Then the two search for shelter with Vex following behind. After traveling and getting near shelter, a giant owl appears and attack. Zane fends the owl off with the scroll powers. Zane gets inside, sets up ice defense, and puts the mech up. Kai fell asleep during the trip. Zane starts to work on the mech again then sets up the recording.

Snippet 2:

“And to Pixal,” Zane said. “I’m sorry.” He finished the recording and looked at Kai. 

“As you would say, here goes nothing.” Zane said then connected himself to the mech.

Commencing system diagnostic.

Vex came up to Zane and waved in front of him. He tried speaking to the stranger, but he would not respond. The computer continued to speak. Vex laughed quietly and picked the scepter up. He tried to freeze Zane, but nothing happened. Kai started to wake up and noticed Vex pointing the scepter at Zane.

“Hey,” Kai shouted. “What are you doing?”

Vex looked at Kai as he got up.

“It is not your business.” Vex answered. He looked at Zane and had an idea. Vex walked to Zane, reaching out to the cable attached to his head.

“Leave him alone!” Kai exclaimed as he charged at Vex.

The two started to fight as Kai tried to defend Zane. Soon, Vex got the upper hand and knocked Kai out.

“First, I’ll take care of your friend than you.”

100% complete.

Zane came back online and saw Vex standing in front of a knocked out Kai. Vex turned around and became pale.

“What happened?” Zane asked then noticed Vex holding the scepter. “You...hurt my friend.” 

Vex panicked and ran off with the scepter. Zane ran to Kai. He was out cold.

“Kai...” Zane spoke sadly.

He picked Kai up and looked at the mech. They can come back anytime, but Kai needed help now.

End of snippet 2:

So Zane carries Kai out and seeks for help. After traveling for some time, Zane ran into the palace. He was brought inside with some guards. He begged the emperor to help Kai. Zane promises in return to do some work for the emperor. He felt bad for the two boys, so he let them stay without having Zane doing any work. 

Kai wakes up, and he starts to get better. On the week Kai was fully healed, there was a giant blizzard that was too dangerous to walk through. The Emperor let the two stay until the storm died down.

But then Vex comes in with the forbidden scroll and attacks Kai and Zane. Vex found an ancient magical sword made from the coldest metal in the Never-realm. Kai got hit by magic rays in the eye and cheek. A battle ensues, the Emperor gets hit, and Kai gets his fire back. Vex was arrested and taken to the Palace’s prison. The Emperor knows he’s going to die soon, so he gives the title of Emperor to Kai and Zane.

The Emperor dies, and Kai feels super guilty. The coronation was going to be held after Kai healed up again since Zane doesn’t want to stress Kai more than he already is.

Snippet 3:

It was coronation day for Kai and Zane. Kai was in the changing room looking in the mirror. His left eye was a bright pale light snow blue. His cheek had a permanent scar from the incident. He was dressed in red, black, and golden emperor clothes and his hair tied up. There weren’t any gel to keep his spiky hair, but, hey, what can you do? “Kai?” A voice spoke.

Kai turned around and saw Zane. He was dressed in white, light blue, and grey emperor clothes.

“Zane,” Kai chuckled. “What are you doing here?”

“I came to check up on you. It’s almost time for the ceremony.”

“Yeah...”

Zane put a hand on Kai’s shoulder.

“Are you feeling alright?” Zane asked.

“No,” Kai frowned. “I don’t think I should be Emperor of this realm.”

“Why?”

“Zane. I barely survived raising my sister alone while maintaining a shop so we can live. I couldn’t handle being a ninja, and I should not have ever become a ninja. I’m a terrible person. Someone like me shouldn’t be emperor.”

“Kai-”

“I’m emotionally damage,” Kai started to cry. “I am not stable. I am not perfect. Hell, I had a breakdown for a whole year, and I went to an underground fighting tournament and became an alcoholic to handle it.”

Zane's eyes widen.

“Was...that the year I died?” Zane asked.

Kai didn’t say anything. Zane hugged Kai.

“I’m so sorry,” Zane said, hugging tightly. “I didn’t realize how much damage I caused you. I promise I won’t abandon you again. I’m going to try and help you. I can’t promise I will make everything better in a snap of a finger, but I promise I’m going to help you.”

Kai choked backed tears and hugged Zane back.

“Thanks, bud.” Kai said.

“It’s my pleasure.”

The two finished up their hug-fest and went outside to get crowned for Emperor.

Kai and Zane were crowned Emperor, and it’s been a month since then. Kai and Zane are starting to think the ninjas weren’t going to be able to bring them back. They probably don’t know the two are still alive.

So time went on and Kai started to feel feelings for Zane. After a few months, Kai asked Zane out. And they start to date.

They dated for five years, and Kai was getting ready to propose.

Snippet 4:

Kai hold the ring in his hand. He couldn’t believe he was doing this. “Five years,” Kai whispered to himself. “I can’t believe it’s been five years, but here goes nothing.”

Kai put the ring in his pocket. He went outside to meet with Zane.

“Hello Sir,” Kai said. “Nice day we’re having.”

Zane turned around and smiled.

“What?”

“You have something planned.” Zane said.

“What do you mean?”

“You use that tone of voice whenever you have something planned.”

“Well...I might have a little something.”

“Oh? What might that be?”

“It’s a surprise, so I can’t spoiler anything.”

“If it’s a gift for our anniversary, I think you’re a little early. That is still one month away.”

Kai started to get nervous.

Just play it cool. Kai thought. He’s obviously joking, right? You don’t have to panic. Just make sure you don’t say something stupid.

“Say, I think it’s time to go to the garthing-I mean garden.”

Zane thought for a moment.

“The garden does sound nice,” Zane took Kai’s hand. “Let’s go.”

The two walked to the palace’s garden. Kai was getting more nervous about the proposal. He was wondering if this was a good idea.

“Kai?” Zane spoke. “Are you okay?”

“I have something to ask you.” Kai blurted.

Why did I say that!? Kai yelled at himself.

“Oh. Umm, okay. What did you want to ask?”

Kai put his hand in his pocket with the ring. He grabbed it and took a deep breath. There was no backing out now.

“Zane,” Kai started. “We’ve been in this world for a while now. It’s a little strange, but it’s nice. We’ve met new people, seen things never seen before, and...discover things. A lot of things.”

“Yes,” Zane said. “I suppose we have.”

“And, well, to add to that, we became emperors. I’ve also gotten better thanks to you. And I was somehow bless with dating you. I have been thinking for a while, and I think we might need to take this to another level.”

Zane started to frown a bit.

“What do you mean?” Zane asked.

Kai took another deep breath and went to one knee.

“Zane, will you marry me?” Kai asked as he pulled out the ring.

Zane’s frown turned into the biggest smile.

“Yes,” Zane said. “I will.”

Kai was shocked.

“Y-You really mean it-mmf!”

Kai was interrupted when Zane kissed Kai on the lips. He kissed back.

I am going to write how the wedding went, but right now I don’t have much of an idea. (Sorry).

So, Kai and Zane got married. They went around the Never-Realm, interacting with the villages, talking to the formlings, and living peacefully. The years went by, Kai and Zane got older. Both have changed in a good way. Zane and Kai got therapy to help them get through their past lives. Kai became more relaxed and opened about his problems. Zane learned to except himself and to take make sure to take care of himself.

The two have been in the Never-Realm for thirty years. Kai is 49 and Zane about 46ish (Zane’s age is confusing).

While it’s been three decades there, it’s been three days in Ninjago. So the ninjas did the whole shabang in that episode they get ready to go to the Never-Realm. They make it to the Never-Realm, meet up with Akita and Kataru. The ninjas said they were looking for two friends, and the two formlings said that the Winter and Summer Emperors would be able to help them.

So the group traveled to the Palace to meet the Winter and Summer Emperor.

Snippet 5:

“So, the Winter Emperor and Summer Emperor can really help us?” Lloyd asked as they entered the palace.

“Of course!” Akita said. “They’re most helpful people in here. But don’t be afraid when you see the Winter Emperor. He looks more different than everyone else.”

The ninjas looked at each other with worry. Soon, they heard voices. Familiar voices.

“That is dangerous.” One voice said.

“I’ve survived worse didn’t I?” Another asked.

“That doesn’t excuse you to do it.”

“But imagine!”

“I already did, and I didn’t like the results.”

“Winter Emperor!” Akita shouted. “Summer Emperor! We need your help finding two missing people!”

The Winter Emperor and Summer Emperor entered the room. A titanium robot dress in ice-theme robes, and a man dressed in fire-theme robe. Both were very familiar.

“Whose missing?” The Winter Emperor asked.

Akita and Kataru revealed the group of ninjas who were now shocked. Both emperors were surprised. 

“Kai?” Lloyd said. “Zane?”

The Summer Emperor smiled.

“Well, if we knew you were-”

Kai was interrupted when Lloyd ran and hugged Kai. He rest of the ninjas jumped on Zane and Kai hugging them. Akita and Kataru were confused.

So Kai and Zane explained that they have been in the Never-Realm for thirty years. Along with what happened during their time there. Kai and Zane were surprised that it’s only been three days in Ninjago. 

Lloyd asked if the two wanted to go back home. Kai and Zane did enjoy it in the Never-realm, but the missed home. So they went back to Ninjago, Kai and Zane giving the title of Emperor to someone else. Wu is surprised that Kai is now an adult, but he was happy that they were both back.

There was no discourse between Zane and Pixal since she knew Zane liked Kai more. I’m not making a drama show off of this.

But, now things are going to be different.

Not Quite Human AU

So I’ve had this idea floating around my head for a while and I’ve decided to curse you with it share it with you!

Basically everything is the same except the ninja are... not human. For the entirety of the show.

Nindroid!Zane

This one’s the most straightforward

Everything is the same except Zane always knew he was a robot, he hasn’t lost his memory or anything

Dr Julien is still around and is a very good father to Zane

Also Echo Zane is Zane’s younger brother because I want him to be

Obviously the way Zane unlocks his true potential will be different, maybe he can save his family or something? Kinda like what Cole does

That’s pretty much it for Zane anyway

Serpentine!Jay

Ok here’s when things start to get wild

Jay was too young to remember pricking his finger on the Fangpyre skeleton, what he does remember is his mother screaming when he woke up a serpentine

He has to hide his face wherever he goes because people are still scared of serpentine

It gets kinda awkward when the serpentine are unleashed and they’re like ‘wait you’re one of us join us’ and Jay’s like ‘.... no’

Whenever his heart rate is elevated his snake-like features are less noticeable but by now it’s been in his system too long for him to be cured

Also I just realised that he’ll have to unlock his true potential in a different way as well asfgsvsffegf

Ghost!Cole

Look I just really love ghosts ok

and I wanted an excuse for snek jay and ghosty cole to coexist

Kinda the same thing happens to Cole as what happens in the show but he’s way younger

Sensei Yang’s haunted temple is open for tourists, they do their tours at night and rush everyone out before sunrise

They don’t believe in the legend, because it’s just silly isn’t it?

They’re still careful to make sure no one is in the temple before sunrise

Anyway cole and his dad go on this tour and they have an argument which leads to Cole storming off

He gets left behind after sunrise and when he leaves the temple he’s... different

By that I mean

He’s a ghost

It’s quite hard for Cole and his dad and causes them to become even more distant

They reconcile eventually tho

Cole learns to become invisible early on, and before Sensei Wu finds him he spends a lot of time like that

He’s a lot more skilled in ghostly abilities

I don’t know whether to have him age as a ghost or be stuck as a teenager in an eight year old body

Dragon!Kai

Kai was hard because to my knowledge he’s never been turned into anything... not human

I chose dragon because I haven’t seen hunted but I know Kai + Dragon = Good shit

I don’t know how Kai becomes a dragon??? Maybe he’s cursed or something???

Anyway he normally assumes a human form, but he can become a full sized dragon at will

His human form looks... normalish

His ears are pointier, he has fangs and his eyes are reptilian

Also you get the sense that something is... off about him

He likes shiny things so he really enjoyed blacksmithing

Was captivated when he first saw Zane (zane’s in his titanium form for this au by the way)

When he first changed into a dragon Cole freaked

‘OH MY GOD YOU’RE A DRAGON’

‘you’re a creepy little boy ghost you can’t talk’

‘I told you I’M SIXTEEN’

But yeah that’s what I’ve got

I’m not sure how much this would change the story, I know that the general public would be a lot more wary of them however, also I don’t know if I should change Lloyd or Nya or if I should leave them as they are

Ninjago Fusion Au Part 2

Oh boy more fusions! I meant to get these out sooner but I was working on other stuff...

Ok, here we go!

Fleet (Kai and Jay)

Fleet is relatively stable, usually being able to stay fused for a long time. Fleet is a HUGE narcissist. He always talks about how cool he is. He flirts a lot, even when he messes it up (which happens a lot). Fleet also isn't the smartest. He tends to not think and just does. It's a miracle when he actually thinks a plan all the way through. His weapon is a Kusarigama.

Techtonic (Cole and Zane)

Techtonic is a stable fusion. He is responsible and smart. He is terrible at social skills. I like to imagine that when he first formed, Jay suggested the name Techtonic because of the pun and he just thought, "Yeah, that's a cool name." Techtonic is a very chill guy. He is also very strong and can also take hits very well considering he has entirely Zane's titanium skin unlike other fusions that only have partial titanium. His weapon is a crossbow.

Zane

Zane (human regular)

• Eyes: Ice blue. Weirdly reflective... as if made of metal... They kinda glow.

• Hair: White. His hair in later seasons is paler than in early seasons.

• Ethnicity: White? Asian? Hard to tell. I feel like Dr. Julien based Zane on his younger self, and Dr. Julien kinda feels like an old Chinese guy, but not to the extent of Chinese that Cyrus Borg feels. Maybe mixed Chinese American? Very pale.

• Build: The tallest of the group. He's pretty skinny, but not as skinny as Jay or Lloyd. I'd say slim but broad-shouldered, probably. He's angular in a way that doesn't feel completely human.

• Other: N/A (for now)

Zane (titanium)

• Eyes: Still ice blue, but the glow is much more noticeable.

• Hair: Metal, but not a solid block. It's actually individual wires.

• Ethnicity: Basically the same but metal.

• Build: Same build

• Other: He's got vents on the back of his head. Also, those lines on his face are where his faceplate meets his "cheekbones". His heart looks really cool, kinda like a portal.

Zane (Snake Jaguar)

• Eyes: Regular human Zane eyes

• Hair: White

• Ethnicity: Black

• Build: Same build

• Other: N/A

Yeah um that new SoG preview could not have shown up at a worse time for me because I stayed up over 1 am just ranting about it in Discord when I knew I had an English Exam in the morning(I get emotional when it's late at night, and that didn't help)

Anyhow, now that I have calmed down a little bit, I still FREAKIN' love that preview. Sure it has a few kinks here and there- like Cole's slanted eyes making him look chilled out while his voice is distressed, the eyebrow notches/scars disappearing for Jay and Kai, etc.(not sure if Cole's scar is gone or just under his long hair) but nothing unexpected. I just hope they acknowledge the changes in show.

But I didn't expect Jay to be as recognizable as he was, for Nya to be as cool as she was(and her movie design works nicely, holy heck that mole), and for Zane to be the best thing about this preview.

I love the cloaking mechanism, and Zane has his old eyebrows which helps a heckton to keep his character recognizable. It's great to see old Zane and Titanium Zane altogether now, I hope they explore this concept in the show(as Titanium Zane has said he wasn't the White Ninja in the past and seemed to differentiate himself from old Zane, in a way)

I do find it cool that all the Ninja have a distinguishing factor other than their eyebrows now: Lloyd's green eyes, Kai's scar & bandaid, Nya's mole, Zane's cloaking+the crack on his forehead..?, Cole's droopy eyelids, and Jay's freckles.

Movibg on...the animation... Where to even start? Lloyd's Spintjitzu, Nya's water, Kai's blue flames right when he ignites his powers- I love it! The slo-mo during Lloyd's hand-to-hand fight with the SoG members was awesome too. This season is gonna have some great action scenes, I bet!

The music is amazing as always. I don't expect anything less from the fantastic composers we have on the show, and the SoG chase scene had some unique, interesting music that I'd love to hear more of. ALSO ANOTHER GREAT RENDITION OF THE GREEN NINJA THEME. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Finally, Lloyd's voice. He doesn't sound like he used to, for sure, and I still can't draw the connection that it's the 'same person'. But I still like his voice, for some odd reason. Even if it is kindasortamaybe generic snarky teen protagonist voice #1.

USING HIS VOICE TO REPLACE WU'S TITLE NARRATION WAS GENIUS THOUGH.

Guetta told Apple Music's Zane Lowe he wants to "save the world from this darkness."

The dream team ofDavid Guetta and Sia are back with yet another collaboration, "Let's Love." Fans hoping for a "Titanium"-type house anthem will have to table their anticipation for now, as the duo opted to create an 80s synthwave jam to inspire the masses during dark times. It's been nine years since "Titanium" came out, but its ingenious creators haven't lost a step.

Taking a page out of The Weeknd's book a-la "Blindling Lights," Guetta and Sia have noticed the increasingly robust synthwave culture and capitalized on its rising popularity. "Let's Love" features a prominent retro-inspired keyboard riff from Guetta, which melds with Sia's typically stentorian vocal flavors to offer up a mouthwatering electronic and pop crossover. Check out the single below.

Guetta also joined Zane Lowe of Apple Music to chat about how "Let's Love" came together and how it was born of out of his desire to "save the world from this darkness." "Well, it was the middle of confinement and I texted Sia and I told her, 'Look, I feel like a superhero. We need to save the world from this darkness. Let's make just a simple feel-good record,'" he said. "And if I think of feel-good music, I really think of the 80's because there was just not a shame to go for this big chorus."

"When we did it, I texted her... and she was like, 'Oh yes, I like this idea. I want to do a song that tells us that we need to go through this together and not against each other.' Because there was so much tension between countries, between communities," Guetta continued. "And she's like, 'Okay, this is cool. I like it.' And she took my little text message and turned it into a song in 24 hours, as the little genius that she is."
