You flip the steak and listen to it sizzle. The recipe you found online, along with some tips for cooking the best roast potatoes to go with the sirloin. After the disastrous fitting, you just want to make it up to Lee, show him that he hadn’t wasted all that effort. You can be good to him.

The peppercorn sauce boils and you turn it down to a simmer, checking your laptop once more for the next step. You work through each bullet point until it’s all on the plate. You drizzle the sauce over the steak and garnish with a touch of parsley. 

You take the plate and peek through the doorway to the front room. Lee sits watching TV with his back to you. You bring the plate to the small dining table and light the candle you put out earlier. You circle back around to the living room and rub your hands together nervously.

“Dinner’s ready… honey,” you eek out.

“Huh, ah, sweet thing,” he looks over as he points the remote at the TV and flicks it off, “smells good.”

“Mhmm,” you hum and back up as he stands.

He enters the dining room as you retreat to the other side of the table and watch him sit. He grabs the cutlery as he eyes the meal, “mm-mm-mm, you did all this?”

“Yes,” you smile shakily. “I hope it’s good.”

“I’m damn sure it is. Look at it,” he grins, “what about you, blossom, ain’t ya gonna eat with me?”

“Um, I’m not very hungry, sorry,” you twist your fist around your fingers. You actually forgot to make enough for yourself.

“Well, would ya at least sit?”

“Yes, sir,” you diligently pull out the chair and lower yourself onto the seat.

“You’re too sweet, you know that?” He praises and you beam a little bright. The weight slowly lifts from your shoulders. Even after what you did in the car, he was still tense.

He cuts into the steak as you watch. You anxiously fixate on his knife and fork. He puts the triangle of medium rare beef in his mouth and groans. He scoops up some of the potatoes and tastes those too.

“Delicious,” he says through a mouthful then swallows, “now why you so worried about not being a good wife, hm? You doing just fine and ya know, blossom, I don’t feel right you actin’ like a wife and not bein’ my wife.”

“I’m sorry,” you pout.

“Don’t you give me them eyes. You’re as bad as the cat,” he reproaches.

You nod and look down, “well, er, I was looking online, when I found the recipe, and…” you look up at him from beneath your lashes, “I saw some vintage dress I liked better than the ones in the shop.”

“You did?” He sounds genuinely surprised, “now, honey, that’s great.”

“Really?”

“Aw, you know, I only wanted to see you tryin’. To know that you want this too. That you want me,” he lowers the cutlery, framing his plate with fork and knife, “I’m not unaware. I’m older, I got a bit extra, but I wanna be good to you.”

You look away shyly, “you are…”

“Well, then, you get your computer and show me these dresses,” he goads playfully.

“I’ll let you finish.”

“I can eat and look, darlin’,” he insists.

“Okay,” you say sheepishly and stand.

You flit out to the kitchen and grab your laptop. You sit in the chair closer to him as you open it up and go back in your history. You bring up the first page, your favourite. The dress has a ruffle around the shoulders and several more tiered around the skirt. It’s simple but nice.

He tilts his head as he chews. He pokes his fork towards the screen, “I like it. It would look real… sexy.”

“Lee,” you nearly squeal.

“What?” He grins at you, “blossom, you know you’re sexy, don’t you?”

“Stop,” you close the laptop and touch your hot cheeks.

“Of course you know, you seen what you do to me,” he growls, “and you cooking me steak, mm-mm, now that’s dangerous.”

You giggle and push your shoulders up. You rock in the chair bashfully as you clasp your hands. He takes another bite and gulps.

“Mm,” he picks up the fork and knife again, “well, what’s for dessert?”

You flinch and the glow fades from your eyes, “I didn’t…”

“Sweetheart,” his timbre deepens, “I don’t mean food.” You stare at him, wide eyed, and he winks, “why don’t you go put on something pretty?” He licks his lips and jabs his fork into the sirloin, “then I’ll come eat you up.”

You gasp and fold your hands over your chest. He pops another morsel into his mouth and growls. You’re on fire with his suggestion.

“I’m not playing, sugar,” he saws at the steak, “I’m gonna eat you whole…” his lip curls as he speaks, “so you go on, get yourself all warmed up.”

You part your hands and nod, standing rigidly as you tingle. You’re just happy he’s not mad anymore. You twiddle your fingers and step close, bending to kiss his forehead, “yes, sir.”

“Mmmm,” he hums, “steak’s good, but I know you taste even better.”

OVERHEARING AN ‘INSULT’ HC’s

I feel like tan is on the phone a lot - on a call to discuss details of a mission or just talking to lem about stuff. he'd be in his home office upstairs, maybe in there for most of the time he's home (when not away for work) so sometimes, you'd bring him up food/ snacks and drinks if he's been in there a while. a tea, pack of biscuits, maybe a sandwich. you'd stand outside with items in hand, and as you're about to knock, you hear him say, "...she's so clingy..."

he doesn't know other women (that you know of) so you assume he's talking about you. and the food in your hand confirms your theory (the fact that you're bringing it to him as he talks about clinginess)

so instead of knocking, you go to your shared room and eat what you made for him. sitting in bed, eating as you watch something on tv/ laptop/ phone

you'd avoid him for the rest of the day - making yourself useful elsewhere. if he was in one room, you were in another. he'd be in and out his office, trying to get work done, so wouldn't really notice (eek)

you'd go to bed way earlier than usual to avoid seeing him, wanting to be asleep before he joins

he'd come to bed, see you 'asleep' (you couldn't fall asleep) he'd apologise to your sleeping self for not being with you today, then would fall asleep, maybe spooning you

he'd be confused, "clingy? what you on about?" and you're like, "I overheard you the other day," he'd still be confused, so you'd explain more, saying how you heard him on the phone when you were bringing food. eventually, he'd catch on and explain how it was A HUGE misunderstanding. saying how lem was asking tan to look after his cat, hence why tan said she's clingy - talking about the cat

after you'd be very embarrassed, apologising profusely, saying how you feel foolish and dumb for thinking that. he won't be mad at you for assuming. he'd feel sad for you, how you kept it to yourself and changed the way you acted. would also feel bad for not saying something sooner, and you wallowing in the feeling on your own

he'd be very reassuring!! telling you he loves the way you love and treat him. how sweet and caring you are to him. telling you he loves you as is and doesn't want you changing to fit/ suit/ accustom his moods

Oooh Sherlock Dipper for the wip ask game 👀 that sounds hella cool

Hi! This is the working title I had for Return, to the Scene of the Crime! I've liked working on this a lot; exploring RRR concepts is really fun to me and I liked conceiving this Dipper and Mizar as a sort of Holmes vs Moriarty dynamic where they're competing against each other in a series of mysteries. I was also super inspired by the TV series Fargo in how it follows both the side investigating the crime and the side covering it up, which I hope to explore more now that the cat is out of the bag in the latest chapter :3

“Yup.” Lucy Ann extended the handle. “Got the long one too, in case he tries going over me.”

Dipper nodded, and hefted his own. “Alright. Stand back, Mr. Yancin.”

“It’s Professor Yancin, actually.” The chemistry professor said, then blinked and backed up behind his desk. “Just be careful. There’s some potent chemicals in there.”

“Potent- hang on, you said this was the cleaning cupboard!”

“There’s bleach and ammonia cleaners in there!” He ducked a little lower. “Just don’t go smashing stuff, okay?”

“Smashing stuff?” Dipper gave a chuckle. “I told you, Yancin. We’re professionals.”

At that moment there was a banging behind the door; he turned back to it, and gave Lucy Ann a nod. She readied her net, and he reached out and grasped the handle. Then he threw it open, and in one motion he raised his net and brought it down on-

-on the beak of one huge griffin filling the entire space of the closet. Dipper heard a low growl, and his eyes went wide.

“Hey, that’s not a teacup griiiiiFFIN!” It bit down on the net and charged into him, leaving him hanging on for dear life as it started running around the lab. “Whoa, whoa, stop! Stop!”

Lucy Ann glared at the man. “Wha- This is not a teacup griffin, man! This is full size!”

“But that’s what the internet listing said- eek!” He ducked as the griffin jumped on his desk, crushed his monitor under its feet, and spread its massive wingspan. “My computer! Noo, it’s destroying everything!”

“I got it, I-” Dipper grabbed for the edge of the desk, only for that to be ripped out of his hands as it took flight. “I don’t got it - Lucy Ann! Heeeelp!”

“Stultissimi,” Lucy Ann muttered under her breath; she cast aside the tiny net and looked around the room. The flag of the California Federation was hanging by the door, flapping wildly on its post as the griffin half-flew, half ran laps around the narrow lab. She jumped up, tore it down and held it out in front of her like a matador.

The griffin slammed into the drywall as it made its turn to her, Dipper hanging off its neck inches from the floor. It tried to weave past her but she pounced on it, wrapping the flag over its eyes and pushing back as hard as she could. It was like stopping a train, but first they skidded, then they slid to a stop, her back landing against a window just hard enough to hurt.

Quiet, again. She took a moment to let out a breath - then looked down at the griffin. It was utterly still now under the darkness of the flag, its breathing returning to normal. She could see a movement under the feathers, a hand struggling to make it out.

“Lucy Ann?” Said his muffled voice. “A little hel- whoa!” She dragged him out from under the griffin, and he jumped to his feet, brushing himself off. “Uh, there we go, I guess! But I don’t think it’s gonna fit in our cage.”

“Eh, animal control can deal with that. Which is exactly what I said when you took this job!”

“Hey, if it was actually a teacup griffin, this would’ve been a breeze! Besides, we had that cancellation-“

I had some name suggestions! For Candy Dealer he could have the prefix "sweet" since it's canon-complient to warriors and links back to the candy aspect! Maybe Sweetshade, in reference to the way his hat and coat shade and obscure his face, and also bc it sounds similar to nightshade, a poisonous family of plants! And that links to like the "sugar" sending the kids to the hospital, the poisoned candies, the ties between CD the candy club and the cult, etc etc. I like to get very detailed with naming!

As for Frank, I suggest the prefixes "skunk" or "badger" because they just remind me of him lol. In my warriors AU he's just Frank bc he's a former kittypet-turned-stray from twoleg territory that lives on the edge of the territory, and is allowed to stay bc he's a sort of "ferryman" of the thunderpath on the border and can aid in safe crossing or passage across / alongside it (he's very used to monsters, used to live in a broken-down one, and has learned their "behavior" and how to not get hit). Sometimes though, he does promise to lead younger cats to a safe crossing point, only to... lead them astray, so to speak :P

wow i really like the name sweetshade, very indepth and creative; it’s pretty close to my ideas for the prefixes i had for him! some examples i had were shadeberry, blackberrysmoke, sweetbriar, berryshadow). lots of references to berries as some are deadly, some are edible/medicine lol

additionally, i thought it’s be fun if he had two separate names: a birth name and an alias (aka the "candy dealer" name) so i actually had some simple plant names in mind, like nightshade (twins!), hemlock or even something like "the forager" (<- leaning towards this)

about frank: yeah i was paused on frank because i couldn’t decide on making him a rogue or an actual badger, but i’ve been leaning on a rogue for a while now so i guess rogue is now canon!

namewise, i was also thinking about badger (twins!) or bandit... though the animal name intices me more haha so yay!

thank you for sharing your frank lore!!! the ferryman idea is very fun! in mine, he’s a rogue who was friends with lila (and company) when they were all kittens! for reasons, he has distanced himself and is known as the forest’s “kitsnatcher.” when he kidnaps kittens or younger apprentices, it’s with human-made cages to which he has some means of unlocking them. it’s all still a ransom too; it’s just a hefty amount of food instead of money lol

This is a Etsy Handmade John Doe Cat Plush and this plush is pretty cute while also super soft.

This plushie was bigger than I thought for a handmade plush that isn't crotchet.

It's pretty neat owning fan art of someone else's oc that was in another style and I hope Mortisfox can someday make a plush of John Doe someday since the closet was the mini body pillow keychains of the bigger body pillow of Doe.

But this plush had a tiny corner where the stitches was showing and strings loose but I don't mind that since some plushies I collect do that.

This plush feels and looks well made.

This plush also is a lint magnet but I don't mind that but it is easy to clean.

The box wrapping paper was pretty and shiny.

This plush is 13 inches from the top of the ears to the tail and 8 inches from the top of the head to the leg.

I guess the heart eyed ones don't get the heart paw print designs on his feet.

I guess that is the design difference of both cat doe plushies and you get stickers of cat Doe which are pretty cute.

The art style this artist has is really neat and I wish I could make plushies.

My First Thoughts

I remember first seeing John Doe on Manly's let's play and I did see John Doe as spooky at first then I slowly broke this character down as lonely and using being spooky to fronting.

I didn't have a Twitter at the time but I did look from the outside when you could then found info on Doe saying this character was lonely.

My guess was correct but the character expresses it in their monster way.

But that ending 7 pose got me to love Doe but I'm into monster characters anyways since once they talk their just people with hopes and dreams with passions.

Plus I like it with Doe's eyes get all big like a cat chasing something and when Doe did those faces I would be a little spooked but then just shrug it off or worry John Doe's face would freeze up.

John Doe with a knife still spooks me though it's real life horror.

oh my goodness I LOVE THIS QUESTION EEK the google comment made me laugh, i promise i do not mind in the slightest, you are giving me an EXCUSE to YAP about my favorite boys!! anywayz this might be a lil long so here’s a guide to get to know bnd and how i learned their personalities! i hope this helps you get to know them a bit more <33

first off you can’t go wrong with watching funnextdoor!! it’s the first video of theirs that i watched and it gives a lot of insight into them in their natural habitat (their dorms) as well as gives a glimpse into their bonds with each other! it’s so cute because the 2nd ep especially is where they all go on various adventures (some by themselves + some with other members!) and then they go on this lil retreat ugh it’s so sweet! this show really gives you a good idea of each member’s personality <3

next is to watch “what? door!” that’s like their version of txt’s to do if you’re familiar with that?? my favorite episodes are 3-4, which is where they work in pairs and go on missions to collect hearts and they are SO funny! i almost lost my mind seeing leehan run full force after myungjae stole his hearts i had no idea he could even run that fast i’m giggling writing this rn-

also love eps 5-6 of what? door! that’s where they go and work at an amusement park and they work in pairs at different jobs! it’s actually so sweet because you are able to see them interact with kids! afterwards once their shifts are over they’re able to enjoy the park so you get to see them have a lot of fun (except my lil scaredy cat taesan LMAO) these eps are just my fav because they’re so cute and i love seeing them have fun and enjoying themselves ugh i literally love them so much

another thing i did but more so to help with understanding their personalities for my writing is looking into each member’s mbti! it helped me get a good grasp of their general personalities bc ofc they aren’t limited to their 4 letters as they’re all unique and different <3

here’s a few random/defining characteristics (at least imo) for the members:

sungho: the mom of the group, loves soccer/sports/working out, giggles a LOT, neat, radiates the kinda energy of a person who is good at everything, more logical and levelheaded, he’s the main vocal and myungjae nicknamed him yeppi <3

riwoo: he’s our main dancer, loves food/desserts (so much so to the point where he said if he could have a superpower he’d want to be able to time travel so he could eat till he was full then go back in time to before he ate so he could eat again), he’s quiet, so incredibly endearing, dad joke enthusiast, short king

myungjae: puppy, loud, hypeman, apart of the riwoo love club (me too jae… me too… tbh he’s probably our president), the leader! big brain bc iirc he writes their songs! he’s so lovable and extroverted, he’s sensitive and cries a lot but that makes him even more lovable imo

taesan: giant mountain, cat, tall boy, apart of the producing club with jae, he’s an allrounder, king of teasing his members fr, he looks scary but is actually shy, doesn’t like being called cute (but is very much the cutest), riwoo lover #2

leehan: fish enthusiast, the best listener in the group, gets shy if you call him handsome, riwoo lover #3, the oddball of the group but not like ehehe he’s so quirky no he’s actually straight up weird like a literal enigma and once ate fish food (i’m madly in love w him)

woonhak: the coolest teenager i’ve ever seen (i am afraid of teenagers but i wouldn’t be scared to walk past him if i saw him in the wild), loud boy, teased relentlessly but they love him so much, has an incredible stage presence, a cutie patootie that bnd would protect with their lives

I have quite a few teaching obligations to do that I'll update as I get to them. My ability to do so will depend on Tree's neediness levels today. Grace & patience, but also, let's go!!

Update: Lots of time spent on cats today. I managed to get 2 more hours of play time with them during my lunch, made the bed and had the most amazing nap. Made dinner, another hour of play time, another hour in the bathroom with Tree reading. All 3 are asleep now. Hoping to eek out some evening work tonight: candles are lit and the Stabucks coffee has been purchased.

4 Bars You Should Know in Sumac, by Del Blaushild

Hello, Sumac! My name’s Del and I’m the new tourism writer in town. I never got to meet the last writer, Pat Davies, but I’ve been reading a lot of his articles, getting to know him just a little bit. For my first article I’ve taken one of his old pieces and updated it, revisiting his recommendations and adding a few of my own. Let’s get started!

1. Sprout’s

A controversial favorite on the corner of West and Maple, this bar and grill has held the award for Best Vegan Restaurant for three years in a row. When Pat visited after their first win, a crowd of plant-rights activists had been demonstrating outside for hours. “They’re upset because we’re not afraid to stick to our traditions,” the owner Dave said of the demonstrators. “They may not like it, but nothing’s ever gonna replace plants. Think of a veggie burger. The taste, the texture- no dry, flavorless hunk of meat can come close to that. Americans love plants, and that’s just the way it is.” Three years later, Dave seems to be right. Sprout’s still draws a healthy crop of locals, and curious visitors stop by for a chance to taste the controversial “Veggie Lover’s Pizza.” During my visit I didn’t see any protestors, but a few posters were taped up outside showing vegetables being diced and soybeans being pressed into tofu in graphic detail.

2. Rosencrantz & Guildensterns

Brother-sister duo Frank and Becca opened this Sumac mainstay ten years ago, hoping to create a place “where friends can get together, talk about books, and make weird art.” Their bar is a popular hangout for Sumac’s creative types, who donated the paintings hanging on the walls and have featured it as a location in countless short films. In his original article Pat wrote about the friendly people and spectacular taxidermy assortment, which are both worth a visit on their own, but I also want to shout out their music and poetry parties on the first Friday of the month. Attendees bring records and play them backwards, then everyone writes down what they hear and writes poems out of it. If you’re lucky, you may even see Acacia the cat on one of her weekly visits.

3. Ozzie’s

This bar’s location on the edge of Candor Lake attracts locals and tourists alike. Even in the dead of winter, patrons will sweep snow off the benches on the wide deck to enjoy the view into the steep basin of the lake. An affordable happy hour and weekly live music keep the bar bustling year-round, and the new owner is keeping it cleaner and safer than ever. Sumac’s lake-watching club also meets here. Founded when its members were young kids, this close-knit group of nature enthusiasts has recently started gaining new members due to its welcoming and relaxed attitude. The small group of retired men who made up the club when Pat visited has grown into a diverse group with members of all ages. I learned an amazing amount about freshwater fish while sitting with the group, and the bartender makes a mean margarita.

4. The Ellicott Inn

What list would be complete without Sumac’s oldest establishment? Built in 1810 by Nathaniel Ellicott, the inn has hosted figures such as Rosetta Douglass, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Kate Gleason, as well as countless Western New Yorkers visiting to take the waters of Candor Lake. On its first floor Gertie’s Tavern serves up historically accurate dishes from the town’s heyday, while the second and third floors still function as an inn. Go on the Sumac Haunted History tour and you’ll finish here, as the ghosts of Ellicott and his family are said to roam the halls to this day. The stable boy, who spent most of his free hours in the tavern in life, is said to appear beside you if you sit alone at the bar, and he’ll challenge you to a drinking contest. What do you get if you win? Nobody’s ever won, but my guess is some kind of medical record for liver damage. Pat recommends the Fox-sister-style seances, which I haven’t had a chance to attend but which he says are thrilling and most fun with friends.

hm my favorite… to have or just in general? (i’ll actually just answer for both eep)

favorite that i’d want to have would probably be Akutgawas ability, Rashomon, or or Q’s ability, Dogra Magra.

favorite that is like to see or just in general: Shibusawa’s Draconia’s Room i feel would just be so pretty, imagine standing in a room with such a beautiful and powerful aura with such simple jewels, personally i’d love to see it. the other would be Lucy’s ability, Anne of Abyssal Red, again i think i’d be very interesting to see what it’s like and the ability has a lot of depth which i love!

honorable mentions:

Rimbaud’s Illuminations is also very pretty in my opinion, i think i’d be a fun ability to play around with as well.

Chuuya’s Upon the Tainted Sorrow. because you’d be crazy not to try and crush people with gravity. (also i’m extremely lazy so this would help a lot)

Tanizaki’s Light Snow would just be so helpful and nice if i could use it. i’d be a master at hide and go seek!!

ahhhh strongest…uhh okay so there’s a few categories for strongest— y-yes i’m going to name them all sorry this is a long post…

strongest to murder / mass destruction: Upon the Tainted Sorrow, easilyyyy i mean- you could brush against a building and rip it to shreds. (note: Fyodor’s ability might be somewhere on this but given that his ability isn’t fully known about i can’t put it here.)

strongest to aid or help others: Thou Shalt Not Die. did i say this just because i love Yosano..yes- and it’s also the best for this cat shirt :3 (technically Fukuzawa’s All Men are Equal ability is good but that’s only in a world with other abilities.)

strongest to capture or conceal people/things: this one’s a little more tough… the abilities that can create large spaces are obviously candidates but… i’d have to go with Illuminations. as it cuts of people from the outside completely and the ability user has full control of the space and what’s inside it. yes it is bypassed because of Dazai’s ability but i’m assuming that other abilities don’t exist in these scenarios. (Light snow is a close contender but the fact that it’s just an illusion and hypothetically you could swing a sword around until you hit the user and deactivate the ability i have to choose this other one) (also Poe’s ability is nice other than the fact you have to build up a space before and the person inside is technically able to be freezes by themselves)

I feel you so much on picking a svt bias hahaha, I think all the members have had their turn being my bias at some point :"). I started off as a dk bias, then I had a bias line of 5-6 members (I still do), but hoshi has been my ult for quite a while. although, dokyeom has been fighting for his place lately (especially with this recent bss comeback??? um sir it's illegal to be that fine, settle down). and then we have my man scoups on the side watching seoksoon fight (I think he's trying to tell me I'm in denial and HE'S actually my ult - he's always on my mind, much like san). so yeah, I don't trust anyone who confidently says they have ONE bias in seventeen, there's just no way. I second-guess myself every time I try to pick one.
