Kpop end of 2022 shows
In which I mostly slam 4th gen boy groups, so if you’re a stan skip this post or go in prepared to be offended. I am aware that this is off brand for this blog. But I’m also aware that I have a number of followers who are as deeply into Kpop as me, and...
who probably will unfollow me after reading this. Oh well, I’m gonna do it anyway. This is my tiny corner of the internet. MINE I tell you!
Look, there was no Between Us airing today, and so nothing for me to get my watch-along snark out on except for the 2 Kpop shows that Viki popped into my feed. So skip this post if that’s not your thing.
2022 Gayo Daejeon (stadium event)
OMG! Either mic them properly or don’t mic them at all! This is a music concert, right? Why can’t Korea ever fucking get the sound right in these goddamn bonanza shows? I had this problem with Kingdom (arguably more of an issue since that was supposedly made for TV) but it’s 100 times worse with this show. It’s so frustrating.
For example, with NCT, why is Johnny’s the only hot mic in the group? Sound tech on stuff out of Korea is mind numbingly confusing and ear wrenchingly annoying. I am reminded why I never watch the live shows and never go to Kpop concerts.
And now, here’s some offensive thoughts and unpopular opinions:
Yeonjun of TXT is one of the best 4th gen dancers ever fielded, and one of the better all rounders. But Kpop stylists gotta learn how to dress a dancer so that they can be properly watched, ya know, WHEN THEY ARE DANCING. No puffer vests, you brainless fashionista numb-nuts. Poor thing kept having to do wardrobe adjustments. Honestly, this plus their red carpet looks this year?
TXT desperately needs a new stylist.
Stray Kids
As a group? They really can’t sing very well or consistently, their strength is in their performance and rapping. And their rappers MUST to be micced hot for live - just KILL 3racha's backup recording, okay? They can handle it. Otherwise please just let them all lip-synch so we can watch them perform. It’s a much better experience.
NCT
Yuta has more charisma in his little finger than Taeyong has in his whole entire body. Doyoung is an incredibly underrated vocalist. Their’s was some of the worst miccing and sound of the night (which is saying a lot considering how terrible it was the whole time). Fantastic use of the stage tho. One the best stadium performance I’ve seen since GOT7. Also, 2 Baddies is an objectively terrible song - which is probably why it’s so popular.
The Boyz
Definitely the prettiest, how are they consistently so glorious on their visuals? Sunwoo keeps getting hotter, it’s patently unfair. But, oh my god, if you are going to have a group sing ballads, then bring 2nd (Highlight) or 3rd (BTOB) gens up there don’t use The Boyz (or SK for that matter). No one wants to hear unstable vocals, even if it’s a CNBLUE cover. Is it weird that The Boyz make me miss Seventeen? Same vibe... better syncopation. 17 is not as pretty tho.
Who is?
Well, UNIQ of course. But I don’t wanna talk about that.
Ateez
Jongho is the only 4th gen idol in existence who doesn’t need a mic even in a goddamn stadium. He is insane. But there is a reason the boy likes a handheld mic, because he takes his vocals seriously. And still the sound tech didn’t trust him enough to leave that mic hot? Frankly, it’s a crime that Jongho’s voice is wasted on a performance group. (Yes, I said it.) But Ateez did give the best stage of the night. They really are one of the industry’s hardest working groups at the moment. I’m a little worried they’re being pushed too much.
Enhyphen
Actually singing for a change *gasp* what will they do without auto tune? Ooof, I’m hella mean tonight. And... they seem to have been practicing their vocals since last time. Honestly? They lack the stage presence of some of the more experienced 4th gens. NCT fucking EATS up a stadium. Enhyphen looked a little sad up there by comparison.
MBC 2022 (New Year's showcase)
Much better sound (mostly lip-synching) and most groups handle a showcase stage better than a stadium.
The MC team was better on this one.
Any time the Boyz and Ateez would like to dance together, I will be happy to watch it happen.
I’m not particularly interested in either of them, but Tempest and Kepler covering Pretty U was pretty damn cute. But younger boy groups + younger girl groups intermixing on stage always comes off as awkward. Dancers should be dancing together when they share a stage together. It’s weird when they are clearly afraid to touch each other.
Hanbin is such sunshine, so pleased to see a Vietnamese idol at last.
As expected the bands doing live Krock had the best music performances. Well and the opera singers, of course.
NCT’s Jungwoo is Taemin’s little brother, they look too much alike, you cannot persuade me otherwise.
It’s a sin that Jeahyun hasn’t has a break away acting role yet. No babies, he really isn’t going to do us a BL.
It’s always great when the surfeit of music shows at the end of the year forces a group like NCT to divide and conquer, because we get to see some of the lesser publicized members do some killer performing.
NCT’s choreographer is phenomenal. Best in the biz?
A sexy cover of Love Killa is fine but if you can’t go hard on Monsta X’s raps then why bother? This only made me want to go watch the original. Which I did.
I’d like to see SK cover Monsta X but that’s about it. Maybe P1H.
Speaking of MX. Why did they cover a song where Kihyun (one of the most consistent voices in Kpop) mostly has to sing falsetto? What a damn waste.
Fun to see IM getting more confident in his vocals but I’d still rather see the MX maknae line rap.
And… thank you for doing an end of year stage Monsta X! Holding onto my beloved 3rd gens by the skin of my teeth here. Look I just love them, okay? Even down 2 members Monsta X goes harder than other groups, but effortlessly. They gave the best performance of my whole night, both shows, 6 hours of content and I’m just left wanting to watch MX comeback stages.
Am I 3rd gen biased?
Probably.
Bite me. But only if you can do it as hard as Monsta X would.
#kpop#just kpop stuff#kpop snark#Yeonjun#TXT#i'd don't stan any groups so don't comment with your weird obsession if you have one#because yech#Yuta#Doyoung#Sunwoo#UNIQ#Jongho#Monsta X#Kihyun

SPEAK NOW TAYLOR’S VERSION THOUGHTS
ok i have some THOUGHTS i don’t think this re release is as good as red tv but this one is hella good too. u just can’t compete with that 10 min version of all too well with the film and the only thing that would’ve made this on par with it is if she released an extended version of dear john which she didn’t.
•it would’ve been cool if she released an extended version of dear john but i still liked how her vocals turned out in the re release
•i wish she would’ve done more with the pop rock trend going on now especially since speak now was a pop rock album i mean it was cool she collabed with FOB and Hayley but i mean i would’ve loved to hear the production revamped a bit more on songs like haunted or better than revenge to something even more rock and heavy kinda like how she changed the production to girl at home. like she could’ve had the original haunted and then like a haunted punk rock version in the vault tracks or some shit. instead she pussied down and changed the fucking lyrics of better than revenge to something cleaner and btw the new lyric fucking sucks. i’m so sick of taylor doing this shit to appease the wokies like how she removed that “fat” thing from her anti-hero video she’s rlly just shooting herself in the foot here bc she ruined an iconic song. it’s like when those dumbasses went after hayley for the “whore” lyric in misery business so she stopped performing it but then she started performing it again bc she realized those people were retards. taylor has honestly just dug herself in a hole here after announcing herself as a liberal she didn’t even need to say her political views DJSJSJ. when u put a song out there are NO TAKEBACKS music and art is supposed to be controversial & piss some people off. period. that’s the whole point.
• i still wish she would’ve just put if this was a movie on this album like who fucking cares if there was a co-write on that song that doesn’t diminish taylor’s talent. it’s just weird how she released it as a single out of nowhere as an extra song off of fearless tv like no that song was on speak now and we all know it DHJSJSSJ
•the re-recorded songs that turned out best imo are haunted & long live. especially long live that song was never rlly one of my favs by her but after hearing this version i realize how much of a masterpiece it is. superman is also an underrated masterpiece after hearing this version lol.
•ok so for the vault tracks: the best songs are def i can see you, castles crumbling, & timeless. i still think some of the vault tracks on red tv are better but these vault tracks were rlly good too. the FOB collab was a bit disappointing i like electric touch but it sounds weird hearing these grown men sing lyrics that were clearly written by an 18 year old girl LOL. i mean with the phoebe collab in nothing new that turned out good bc the message of that song was something u could imagine phoebe singing about but yeah this one aint it. but the hayley collab is good and their voices compliment each other well on castles crumbling. i can see you is rlly good and prob the best one but you can tell how much they tweaked the production to sound modern bc it does NOT sound like something that was released on speak now lol. it just sounds like a new song from taylor swift. overall u can still tell why these songs were unreleased and didn’t make the cut bc they aren’t as good as the original speak now songs.

OML i'm trying to respond on the saddest wifi connection in the world! wanted to say thanks and i value your thoughts! i love seeing musical discussion because there's so many different perspectives. there's as many as there are people. another friend of mine loves certain songs from the album that i absolutely can't stand LMAO
i do gotta clarify that i meant Shitpost/Sharknado in a non derogatory manner! it was very complimentary! Terrible in a, "i have to listen to this again and again because i love it"
I watch Sharknado every few months with love in all my heart and soul and it's terrible (affectionate)
Alsp, have you heard the concept of "jumping the shark"? essentially i see sweet honey buckin as a shark jump!
the pure and unashamed ability to just make what one wants regardless of how it may be received or the opinions on it or the outside influence going into it. It's an abstract painting.
throwing together a lot of elements that would not be "expected" to be combined.
that song is my top 5 for a reason and it is because i love it. not because of "irony" or anything like that. i admire its boldness. i love listening to it. i'm also buckin. Woah.
but here's a bit more info you might've missed to help deepen the appreciation of that particular song a lil more!
To start, the initial song SWEET is a rehash of the song "I Fall To Pieces" by Patsy Cline, which is a classical country song from the 70s. it's pretty underrated but was very raw in its emotion. One of the most simple and straightforward country songs.
Shaboozey has been mixing country and trap beats for most of his career. if you want more, he's a good point to listen to. dude is hella underrated. I'd say his influence as inspiration is all throughout this album.
so the "Sweet" portion mentions "Coming Home" which is a very on the nose reference to Homecoming, for beyonce. She made a tour and documentary by the same name. It's a call back but also more literal in the album context, which means returning to Houston in this song. More on that in a couple paragraphs lmao.
the Honey portion of the song was a flashback/reimagining of her song PURE/HONEY from the album she released before this. it was very overtly sexual in the previous iteration, and the stylistic choice of vocals she uses in this version, is a play on how such sexuality was often "disguised" in such vocals in previous "eras" of music.
the BUCKIN portion is reference to the AAVE usage of the word as a slang term which means "willing to fight/threatening violence" and it is set to a New Jersey Club beat (Pharell Williams had a strong hand in the composition of the song and he's known for making such compositions from back during his days with N.E.R.D.).
i can only speculate about this bit i'm about to mention but, given that the album's songs are a deliberate and direct reference to the Chitlin Circut, aka the few venues across the country where Black performers were allowed to perform during Jim Crow era and 1930's up until/durin the civil rights movement, i'd guess the New Jersey Club Beat is tying in the Northern portion of the Chitlin Circut, as venues in Maryland/Delaware/New Jersey also played a part in it.
Houston was also a very notable member of the Chitlin Circut. "Coming home" in the context of the album, if one looks at the track list, is literally arriving back in Houston after completing a tour Away from Texas (this ain't texas - Possibly Oklahoma), Tennessee (Jolene), Florida (Alliigator Tears), Oh (Louisiana) Been Away Too Long, Flamenco (New Mexico/East Texas), Mississippi (Riverdance), II HANDS (Arizona, coyotes run wild), etc. etc.
I'm sure the Bey Hive Scholars could pinpoint more Chitlin Circut locales than I have. But yeah!
The "Look at That Horse" line is possibly a reference to what we say in the black community in the south about weaves and lace fronts and wigs- that it is horse hair. "Dining on farce" further adds to this implication. As the hair is a farce. She follows it up by counter arguing against that assumption in, again, in an intercultural manner by saying it's all natural. Beyonce has been criticized for having long nlonde hair for all of her career. In the black community, it's often assumed to be false. Horse hair. Look at that horse.
If you can't tell i'm really in love with this album. also the album art is a direct reference to rodeo queens. she's sitting side saddle, which was associated with women of high status as well. Rodeo Queen = Queen Bey. it's right there. She grabbed it. She's a clever girl, she said so herself.
💜 u and have a good week!!
My Top 5 from Cowboy Carter
(Just in case anyone was curious) Riverdance + II HANDS II HEAVEN (played together for an even better listening experience. it's brought me to tears lmao) Alligator Tears (I'm seeing this one being slept on a bit lmao. it's getting lost in the mix because there's 25 fucking tracks but it's such a good song wtf.) Bodyguard (Holy shit what a groove!! NO OTHER NOTES! GROOVE!) SWEET ★ HONEY ★ BUCKIIN' (this one is so goofy that i both hate it and love it at the same time it's sharknado for me. look at that horse. 🐎🐴🐎. I love this song.)

DARREN: hi friend!
DARREN: YAOOO HOMIES
DARREN: WHATS UPPP
DARREN: WHOOOO
DARREN: LETS FUCKIN GOOOOO
DARREN: THANSK FOR JOINING ME
DARREN: THIS IS SO MUCH MORE MY SPEED
DARREN: WHERE MY KIDS WHO GREW UP WITH AIM AT
DARREN: THIS IS MY POWER ZONE
DARREN: THIS IS HOW I USED TO TALK TO ALL MY FRIENDS
DARREN: SO THIS FEELS APPROPRIATE
DARREN: WELL WE GOT THREE MINUTES BEFORE THIS SHIT FIRES UP
DARREN: AND I CAN ALREADY TELL THAT RESPONDING TO ANY OF YOU IS GONNA BE RULLL HARD
DARREN: CUZ I CAN EITHER SEE YOUR NAME OR READ YOUR COMMENT
DARREN: IT'S ONE OR THE OTHER
DARREN: HAHA "GREAT FIRE OF LONDON" COMMENT WAS FUNNY
DARREN: "I'M TOO OLD TO SEE ANYTHING" I THINK WE ALL ARE, NO WORRIES
DARREN: HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAM!
DARREN: RE: ASIAN TOUR GOD I WISH
DARREN: ok i gotta get fired up, let's listen to this madness
DARREN: woah wtf we got visuals??
DARREN: oh ok
DARREN: so this is bts from the photo shoot for the album cover
DARREN: this was all in my actual house
DARREN: that i tried to make look like the house i grew up in in San Francisco
DARREN: or at least the one i spent the most christmases at
DARREN: holy shit i hope we dont gotta watch this the whole goddamn time
DARREN: so that's my actual first guitar
DARREN: i got that when i was in the third grade
DARREN: everything i know on the guitar started on that baby
DARREN: the straight hair look is supposed to be my brother Chuck
DARREN: chuck didnt actually have a mullet, these were last minute wigs, so, what ya gonna do
DARREN: ok back to the song
DARREN: check that modulation out
DARREN: i was super surprised that this song wasn't covered more
DARREN: ONE MORE MODULATION... here we GO
DARREN: the horns are fucking smashing it on this
DARREN: also little factoid: this is actually a mashup
DARREN: it's a mashup that andy williams sorta standardized so hard that we think it's ONE song
DARREN: it's actually two songs, Happy Holidays, and The holiday season
DARREN: ok hippo here we go
DARREN: i've wanted to do this version forever
DARREN: this song is so batshit that i wanted to treat it accordingly
DARREN: just make it chillhop and understated but like lowkey kinda hard
DARREN: nobody covers this song cuz they think it's so insnae
DARREN: INSANE
DARREN: which made me sad
DARREN: also no dudes ever touch it
DARREN: so if you know me, you know that i like to shine a light on things that don't get done a lot
DARREN: my face part of the song is coming up
DARREN: where the word "massage" hits with the snare
DARREN: hella swung
DARREN: also this is a very divisive song, like half of the world has no fuckin clue what it is
DARREN: while the other half is like yeah duh i love that song
DARREN: yo germany in the house!
DARREN: i also played a lot of the wacky instruments on that track
DARREN: an instrument called the nose flulte
DARREN: that's me
DARREN: wow who's sick of these visuals yet
DARREN: oh shiiiit here comes in GLAMBERT!
DARREN: so lucky to have adam on this
DARREN: this is another song that i was suprised wasn't covered more
DARREN: there are like three that are big, but none are duets
DARREN: and i wanted to do a male-male duet al la bing crosby and bob hope, from their road movies
DARREN: arranging these vocal harmonies was super fun cuz i knew I had adam to do them
DARREN: a lot of chromatic movement that i fucking LIVE for
JANETB: THIS IS SO CHAOTIC - WTF IS HAPPENING?
DARREN: JANETB it is chaotic isn't it
DARREN: and we just getting started
DARREN: god adam sounds so great, getting to vocal produce him was such a joy
DARREN: this is one of the most underrated xmas songs ever in my opinion
DARREN: alright hang on for this high note
DARREN: BAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
DARREN: AAAAAAAA
DARREN: AAAAAAA
DARREN: AAAAAAAG
DARREN: so sick. adam smashed it. love that song.
DARREN: ok this is some real shit coming up
DARREN: my deal with this album was: i was NOT going to make this album...
DARREN: ... unless i recorded this song
DARREN: this is was always one of my favorite songs ever
DARREN: and i always loved how it was a christmas song that wasn't a christmas song
DARREN: it's about winter and falling in love during the holidays and trying to make it through
DARREN: it's a superbly written song, wish i wrote it
DARREN: i encourage all of you to check out the original
DARREN: a dude by the name of Nir Z played drums on this song, straight outta israel!
DARREN: is israel in the house today! give it up for Nir
DARREN: cuz guess what, Nir also played on the original john mayer record 20 years ago which is mind blowing
DARREN: also hi everyone
DARREN: i'm sorry i cant keep up with all these comments
DARREN: so i'm saying hi to all of you
DARREN: hello hello
DARREN: hope some of you are taking time to listen to the music as well 😬
DARREN: i'm so fucking proud of this song
DARREN: something bout the way blue light on a black night... so beautiful
DARREN: wudup finland!
DARREN: anybody here know this song before this album?
DARREN: yo ireland, oi oi oi wales!
DARREN: i would love it if this became a christmas standard, that was my goal
DARREN: ok let's kick it up a notch
DARREN: so ngl i expect there to be a faction of ppl who hate me for this song ha
DARREN: this is NOT better than the original
DARREN: i have to disagree with anyone that says that
DARREN: however
DARREN: i love this song and had to figure out how i would make this song "me"
DARREN: and thought a 60s motown take would be unique and captivating at the very least
DARREN: also the end of this song should have been a separate track
DARREN: i just forgot to do that ha
DARREN: "streetcorner carolers" is coming up at the end of this song
DARREN: technically another "original" on the album
DARREN: here it comes...
DARREN: i even put a space between this part and the "river" part
DARREN: just forgot to make it a separate track
DARREN: now it's part of the same song forever oh well ha
DARREN: yeah it's a four seasons nod
DARREN: ok guys
DARREN: this song is crazy important to me
DARREN: the first musical i was ever in was a show called fanny
DARREN: by harold rome
DARREN: this is a song from it
DARREN: a song i've always loved
DARREN: it has zero mention of christmas
DARREN: but jingle bells also doesnt mention xmas
DARREN: and what's more holiday-y than coming home and being grateful for what you have
DARREN: so the idea was to make this song sound and feel like vince guraldi
DARREN: aka super christmas-y
DARREN: the arrangement here is so gorgeous, very proud of this song too
DARREN: i hope this song can become a standard too.. that's my lofty dream
DARREN: i wanted people to hear these and feel like theyve known them their whole life
DARREN: but i guarantee youve never heard this song
DARREN: RE: FEELS LIKE AN EMBRACE, THANK YOU!! THAT WAS THE IDEA!!
DARREN: OK SO THAT'S THE END OF "SIDE 1"
DARREN: IF THIS WAS AN LP
DARREN: SO NOW THIS IS "SIDE 2"
DARREN: THIS IS ANOTHER ONE PPL DONT KNOW THAT I FLIPPED THE SCRIPT ON
DARREN: 'EAST OF WESTERLY' IS RHODE ISLAND
DARREN: I CHANGED THE ORIGINAL LYRICS TO MATCH THINGS ABOUT MY OWN LIFE
DARREN: AT THE TOP I MENTIONED ALL THE PLACES IVE DONE XMAS
DARREN: I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG
DARREN: FLAHERTY AND AHRENS IN THE HOUSE...
DARREN: ... WHO LOVES ANASTASIA? RAGTIME? SEUSSICAL? ONCE ON THIS ISLAND?
DARREN: THE ORIGINAL IS VERY BITTERSWEET
DARREN: I WANTED TO MAKE THIS A BURNIN' BOBBY DARIN VERSION
DARREN: HA A MEL TORME SONG? DAMN THANKS
DARREN: YOURE JUST SAYING THAT CUZ YOU KNOW THATS MY GUY
RACHELGRACE: CAN YOU SAY HI TO ME PLEASE? IT WOULD MEAN THE WORLD TO ME! I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DARREN: HI RACHEL GRACE HOPE YOU LIKE THE MUSIC
DARREN: OH SOPH WE GOT MORE COMIN
DARREN: THIS IS A NEW LINE
DARREN: AS FOR THE SONGS YOU HEAR OVER AND OVER
DARREN: I HOPE YOU LOOK THIS ONE UP WHEN IT PLAYS
DARREN: THIS IS NEW, THE ORIGINAL IS MUCH MUCH SADDER:
DARREN: AND ONE OF MY FAVE LINES BUT I HAD TO CHANGE IT FOR THIS VERSION
DARREN: ENCOURAGE YOU TO ALL LOOK IT UP
DARREN: NANCY LAMOTT'S VERSION
DARREN: THIS LAST NOTE IS RIGHT AROUND WHERE I REALLY WISH I HAD A VIBRATO
DARREN: WISH I COULD DO THAT, BUT HEY, I'M A ROCK SINGER SORRY
DARREN: SO BACK TO MEL TORME
DARREN: CHET ATKINS YESSSS
DARREN: MEL TORME'S MASTERPIECE
DARREN: CAN YOU GUYS FUCKING BELIEVE MEL TORME WROTE THIS
DARREN: DOESNT THAT DRIVE YOU NUTS
DARREN: ANYWAY I ACTUALLY SAID I DIDNT WANNA DO THIS ONE
DARREN: SIMPLY CUZ IT'S TOO PERFECT AND BEEN DONE TOO MANY TIMES
DARREN: BUT ON THE DAY WE JUST DID A LIVE TAKE
DARREN: THIS IS A LIVE VOCAL WITH A GUTIAR
DARREN: THE STRINGS WERE ADDED AFTER
DARREN: IT WAS JUST TOO SOLID NOT TO INCLUDE
DARREN: AND ALSO EVEN THOUGH IT'S BEEN DONE A THOUSAND WAYS
DARREN: IT JUST REMAINS ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL TO ME SO I COULDN'T NOT HAVE IT
LANA: HOW DID YOU DECIDE WHICH SONGS TO INCLUDE?
DARREN: LANA IT TOOK ME FOREVER TO WHITTLE DOWN THE CHOICES
DARREN: I STARTED WITH ABOUT 100 SONGS
DARREN: NOT TO MENTION ALL THE ORIGNALS I WROTE...
DARREN: MAYBE ONE DAY YOU'LL HEAR THEM 😜
DARREN: OK SO THIS ONE IS DEFINITELY BACK TO ME LOVING AIM
DARREN: cuz guess what bitches i'm in my thirties
DARREN: which is insane to me
DARREN: when the fuck did that happen
DARREN: point being that this song hits super hard
DARREN: so asked a fellow millennial
DARREN: evan rachel wood
DARREN: i asked her to go full classical singing
DARREN: cuz she can do anything
DARREN: rock jazz musical theater
DARREN: and no one asks her to do this kinda shit very often
DARREN: she also recorded this in her closet at like 2 in the moring
DARREN: i facetimed her for the vocal production of this
DARREN: ha full susan boyle vibes
DARREN: i told her to go for it
DARREN: and she did
DARREN: like full david foster shit
DARREN: not really my usual thing but i wanted a david fosterish moment on this album
DARREN: it's a boy choir song after all so there's only so many places to go with it
DARREN: which is why after we took it to church i took it to the bar
DARREN: the fiddle player on this shit is INSANE
DARREN: give it up for lainey wilson
DARREN: very proud of this one
DARREN: the only full original on this album
DARREN: the fantasy was if dean martin and dolly parton did a country/jazz crossover record in the early 70s
DARREN: stuart duncan on the fiddle ladies and gentlemen
DARREN: wow
DARREN: was song order important? yeah of course
DARREN: it's all a delicate balance
DARREN: unlike most releases ppl actually listen to xmas albums in order
DARREN: if the artist is lucky that is
DARREN: damn a lotta folks from finland here... kippis!
DARREN: also insider fact, i played the original version of this very differently on guitar
DARREN: i wanted to nod to Cohen's "hallelujia" since i've been hearing that as an xmas song lately...
DARREN: ... which it isn't, but i get it. Christian imagery and all that.
DARREN: but i changed the chord structures so it sounded less like that song
DARREN: give legal team less of a headache ha
DARREN: so ive been singing this one for a long time
DARREN: again, another one thats been done a zillion times
DARREN: but i needed a smaller moment after the madness of drunk on xmas
DARREN: so there it is
DARREN: damn so many birthdays
DARREN: happy birthday to all of you
DARREN: every day is a birthday
DARREN: guys i wish touring wasn't so goddamn expensive
DARREN: srilanka in the house!
DARREN: ha re: ask ryan murphy for a loan
DARREN: ok last song here we go
DARREN: this is up there with St Patricks Day
DARREN: this is not a song you hear
DARREN: i want this to make its way into the rotation of new years songs
DARREN: who here is a regina spektor fan?
MADDIE: THANK YOU FOR INTRODUCING ME TO THIS SONG AND ST PATRICKS DAY.
DARREN: maddie you're very welcome
DARREN: thanks for listneing to the music
DARREN: and thanks to all of you who actually listen
DARREN: that's the best way to show me love
DARREN: more than anything
DARREN: ciao my italian friends
DARREN: i wish i could hop on santas sleigh and visit all of you in one fell swoop
DARREN: hola mexico!
DARREN: fave part of the song right here
DARREN: punches me in the fuckin guy
DARREN: no mention of the things it took away
DARREN: ... wow.
DARREN: what a powerful sentiment
DARREN: this song isn't about what i'm gonna do, what is my resolution...
DARREN: it's being grateful for what you DO have, what you HAVE done
DARREN: a hopeful sentiment that i try to carry with me everywhere
DARREN: and a real overlapping theme for this whole album
DARREN: so i find it fitting to end it with that
DARREN: thank you all so much for checking out the music
DARREN: this is a huge part of my own life
DARREN: and my own experience of the holidays
DARREN: and i keep a lotta shit close to the chest
DARREN: so this is arguably one of the biggest extention of myself i've ever recorded
DARREN: thank you for sharing all
DARREN: please share with friends
DARREN: and know that this isn't just some random xmas album
DARREN: it's a piece of me
DARREN: please play it during your holiday celebrations, however you choose to do that
DARREN: from start to finish
DARREN: i love yall, and i love that we got all corners of the worls here
DARREN: *world
DARREN: how cool is that
DARREN: so thank you all i love you, happy holidays- and keep an eye out...
DARREN: ... i
DARREN: i've got some goodies coming your way
DARREN: some stocking stuffers
DARREN: happy holidays everyone big hugs and so much gratitude!
DARREN: some additional gifts
DARREN: something for EVERYONE
DARREN: stay positive, stay inspired! love ya!

Why I love Sakura Nanamine and think she’s hella underrated
Hi, so, y’all probably don’t know me, but I’ve got nothing better to do than vent about how much I love this gorgeous lass.
So, Sakura. Why do I love this minor character so much?
Well, to boil it down to the simplest of terms, I find her really interesting. But, obviously, I didn’t use a “Read More” to just say that. So, allow me to explain.
On the surface, Sakura seems like a pretty flat character.
What do we know about her? Well, she’s not really expressive, she’s Tsukasa’s assistant, she’s often seen reading, and she’s the voice of the rumors.
She hasn’t really appeared in the story since the Picture Perfect Arc, and her appearance in that arc was super brief already. We also know nothing about how she ended up under Tsukasa’s control or her motivations.
So, why do I find her interesting?
Well, her mystery is a huge factor, but more importantly, it’s the little intricacies of her character that we see in her few appearances in the story.
For example, despite her usual deadpan, Sakura is actually quite caring and we can see that especially in her interactions with Mitsuba.
We don’t get to see this side to her often because of the actions taken by Tsukasa and Natsuhiko, but she seems to generally care for others.
Her actions with Tsukasa vs Natsuhiko are highlight that interesting difference. While it could be due to her being under his control, Sakura does seem to put up with Tsukasa’s touchiness far more than Natsuhiko’s.
The indulgent part of my brain wants to say that it’s because she understands both Tsukasa’s eccentric behavior and the fact that as a supernatural he doesn’t get to have contact with others much, which may make him a bit extra clingy, but that’s a theory for another day.
Speaking of Natsuhiko, her dynamic with him is interesting in its own right. She’s clearly very annoyed by his actions to her and yet she still relies on him to a degree. Regardless if you ship them or not (which I personally do not), there is clearly a bond between them.
For example, Sakura seems to be somewhat awkward when communicating her feelings.
But Natsuhiko is able to put things into the words she struggles to say for her.
Not to mention that time where she was turned into a male temporarily and gave her lovely statement about how she doesn’t care what forms she or Natsuhiko takes (which was unfortunately somewhat ruined by Natsuhiko’s extreme simping).
But, switching gears, her interaction with Nene is also especially telling about her.
When she says this, I don’t think she’s lying.
While Sakura never seems to fully convey things, she’s not shown to outright lie or be sarcastic either. In fact, she leans more towards the bluntly honest side of things (as seen when Tsukasa tells her to ask him about the talking fish and she responds with how she doesn’t care).
But, even when she’s not being vocally honest about her feelings, her body language and few expressions can show it.
As you can see, this whole moment paints how badly Sakura doesn’t want to bring harm to Nene. She looks scared of Tsukasa, she sighs with a downcast expression, and when she says “I know the feeling” she’s cradling her body as if she’s ashamed or depressed.
But, she’s also quick to steel herself because she knows there’s nothing else she can do, which I think is a very interesting side to her character.
It seems like behind her blank face, she’s a person who feels a lot, but can’t convey those feelings due to the nature of her role to Tsukasa. She has to disconnect to keep sane, in a way. And, honestly, it’s impressive that she can...
Even if moments like this show that she isn’t fully capable of doing so, as shown by her reluctance to agree with Natsuhiko.
Also, alongside her empathy, she’s also shown to be quite intelligent.
She’s quick to pick up and understand things. This is likely due to her regular studies through books she is shown to do. It’s honestly quite likely she needs to do lots of research so she can be a good assistant for Tsukasa.
But, let’s wrap this up since this is getting kinda long.
Basically, despite how she appears on the surface, Sakura is a lass of emotions and intelligence behind a face of indifference and this post just barely covers just how intricate she truly is. I’ve barely gone into how she compares to Nene, how she may actually want to see growth from Natsuhiko, or how her constant comparison to a doll may be more than just a way to describe her appearance.
There’s so much I want to know about her and it saddens me greatly that out of the entire broadcasting room group she’s the one who is explored the least. I wanna know what her wish to Tsukasa was, I wanna know how she got tied up into the supernatural in the first place, I want to know what she does outside of being Tsukasa’s assistant.
Honestly, I just want to see more content with her on a whole, both in the story and from the fandom. I’m honored when friends say I portray her well in my writings and musings in private because I just adore her so much.
So, yeah, if you read my rambling, thank you so much. Have a Sakura meow to lighten your day!
#Lycoris Musings#Sakura Nanamine#tldr; I just think she's neat#Manga Spoilers#tbhk#jshk#other characters mentioned#I know no one is really gonna care about this but I needed to vent#I just love her a lot and want to see her more#I believe in Sakura Supremacy

I made my own K-pop Supergroup (female)
So this has been on my mind for a long time really - I think it would be so coOL if this actually happened.
I mean, remember the Wow Thing collab? Yeah, I wish that was a permanent thing too. In this post I’m gonna take you through the lineup, give the group a name, and also maybe give them a debut album
Before I start, I want to introduce the group's concept. I kinda want my group to be versatile and they should be able to pull off many concepts. I would describe their main concept as "Girl Crush and Badass". I also want it to be very aesthetic and appealing to the eyes. Through their songs, this group conveys messages such as Self-Confidence, Female power, etc.
Group Profile~
Group Name : Meraki
[(n.) To do something with soul, creativity or love; to put something of yourself into your work]
So since I want these girls to show themselves through their music, and inspire people, regardless of age and gender, I think this name works really well. It means that they pour their heart and soul into their work, for their fans.
Fandom Name : Elysian(s) [nick-name : Elise(s)]
[(adj.) Beautiful and creative; Peaceful and perfect; divinely inspired]
In the eyes of the group, their fans are beautiful, perfect people, just as they are. This ties together with the overall message they share, and I though “Elysians” would be a good word for the fandom name. I think they would give it a shorter form or a nick-name, like “Elise” [pronounced “el-ees-ay”, or however you like it].
Members’ Profile~
(Note - this is an all-visual group lolol)
Taeyeon ('89) - Leader, Lead Vocalist, Visual
I want Taeyeon to be the leader, simply because she already has experience, plus, she's the oldest. She's gonna be our Lead vocalist, because, well, she has a beautiful, soulful, golden voice, that can convey a lot of emotions. Plus, I think Taeng can fit the badass concept well, like, I wanna see more of the Taeyeon from the Something New MV.
Amber ('92) - Main Rapper, Vocalist, Visual
Amber's a total badass, breaking the grounds of gender differences. Other than that, Amber is a really good rapper, she can make her voice low and husky, which is what I'm looking for. She also has such charming vocals, like they are so soothing. She's also fluent in English, which helps if the group is promoting overseas.
Jiwoo ('96) - Lead Dancer, Rapper, Vocalist, Visual
I decided to add Jiwoo because she is made for this concept. Her singing voice is quite husky, and I really like the vibe it gives. She's also such a good rapper, she adds some rasp, and makes it really low so that's super cool. She's a great dancer, like her moves have so much swag and she kind of adjusts her dancing style to match the vibe of the song.
Dami ('97) - Lead Rapper, Dancer, Vocalist, Visual
I think Dami really fits the badass concept, she has a really string image, and her rap is fire. So obviously, she is our group's lead rapper. She has this amazing, hot husky voice that really fits the badass part. Nevertheless, Dami also has really nice, somewhat breathy vocals, with a very interesting timbre, and I'd definitely like to hear more and more of that.
Jamie ('97) - Main Vocalist, Dancer, Visual, Sub-Rapper
Okay, first, STAN JAMIE. Anyways, she has such angelic vocals, that are honestly so rich. But the girl can make it seductive and raspy, like she can GROWL. I think she's got some really good moves too. She could totally fit in the badass vibe, like, check her out on the show "Good Girl". Jamie's a fluent English speaker as well, so she's a part of the English line too hehe.
Soojin ('98) - Main Dancer, Vocalist, Visual, Maknae
To start with, Soojin is a really good dancer and I want her to be the group's main dancer. She has a unique style, and I think her visual fits the Girl Crush concept very well (what I mean is, she's hella hot). About her vocals, I think they're SUPER underrated. They're quite gentle and high, which I think will add some contrast to the songs.
Debut Album~
Now that we’ve seen the members, I want to show you the album they’re gonna put out. It has a total of 8 tracks, and the title track will be “ME” (originally by CLC), because this song exudes self-confidence and self-love, which is exactly the concept I want these girls to have. Plus, the song is a banger, it’s perfect for a debut track :)
ALBUM COVER
ALBUM NAME : Kalon
[ (n.) Beauty that is more than skin-deep ]
TRACKLIST : {I’ve created a playlist on Spotify :3}
1. INTRO : Sway with me [og. by Saweetie, GALAXRA]
2. TITLE : ME [og. by CLC]
3. LALALAY [og. by Sunmi]
4. Not That Type [og. by Gugudan]
5. Room Shaker [og. by Ailee]
6. Queen [og. by 3YE]
7. Chica [og. by Chungha]
8. Wanna Be Myself [og. by Mamamoo]
Debut MV~
So for their mv, I’m thinking of a dark concept, showing feminine power. Kind of like a mafia vibe, except it’s run by strong, powerful, women lol. It shows a story, of how the girls unite to become one strong force, together overcoming the hardships they’ve gone through alone, in this world of harsh standards. They learn to love themselves and share the same message to their viewers and fans, through the lyrics. I made a mood board so you can get the picture [at least I tried to, sorry if it looks bad hehe].
So that’s it :) I put a lot of thought into this, and I made sure I don’t include two members from the same group. Tell me what you think about it, and also feel free to send in requests (lowkey asking you for ideas here). I might also continue this, maybe a boy-group version, idk :/
Thank you for reading, byeeee <3

And you don’t seem to understand
A shame, you seemed an honest man.
Duvet, by bôa (the British band, not BoA, the Korean pop artist) was my song of the year in 2020. According to Spotify, at least.
Most people who have heard Duvet know it as the opening to the cult classic anime Serial Experiments Lain. Like many things about Lain, the opening is iconic, matching Duvet’s acoustic meandering and haunting vocals with the mysterious and a e s t h e t i c visuals to create something unique that looks nothing like most anime openings these days. The average anime opening is energetic, introduces all the characters, has shenanigans and funny animation, and Lain is out here just giving nothing away. She’s on the TV and then walking down the street and then time stops and huh????
As a show, Lain is esoteric and confusing and doesn’t answer nearly as many questions as it sets up but manages to maintain interest through these mysteries somehow, through a combination of a slow build and sheer fuckery. Lain herself being a surprisingly endearing protagonist helps a lot; as a fish out of water with the computer systems the series centres around, her curiosity helps drive much of the early developments and worldbuilding. While the largest mysteries about the show surround her personally, by the time the audience is exposed to them they are likely comfortable enough with her to feel as unsettled by the implications as is intended. As comfortable as anything in the show could be, anyway- the show’s limited budget was used masterfully to create a stark, harsh atmosphere, with scenes where you’d expect that one anime cicada loop instead carrying the drone of power lines, and backgrounds painted alternately with sheer white and an excess of shadow, making the city feel as unnatural as the events taking place in it.
The show is also incredibly predictive about the nature of the internet and what online culture would look like for an anime released in the late 90s- the themes of online cliquing and personae are more relevant than ever in an age of social media and its role in modern politics.
Serial Experiments Lain happens to be available for free on funimation’s website in some countries (and Youtube where it isn’t), so there’s no excuse not to watch it! Unless its not your thing, which I could understand. Frustratingly, the Youtube version doesn’t appear to have the opening or ending attached, let alone the little bit before the opening (haha look it up its so great), so I wasn’t exposed to Duvet for much longer than I would have liked in retrospect. Because this song and album fuck so hard.
I suppose part of having a less than ideal budget meant using a song from an obscure alternative band than commissioning a new one for the opening, but I’m certainly not complaining about the result. Following the anime’s release, the album Duvet was sourced from, The Race of a Thousand Camels, would end up being reorganised and rereleased internationally as Twilight with a few bonus tracks on the end (I’m still hunting down a CD of either of them, but they had a pretty low run and such are hard as hell to get).
I’m not sure what the best comparison would be to get an idea of what Twilight sounds like- spotify’s recommended artists appear largely to be other composers associated with anime soundtracks (as well as the artist behind the VA-11 Hall-A soundtrack, you go mate) so that hasn’t been much help. If I’m honest, its not too out of the ordinary- while a very very solid album, I don’t think it strays too far from what would be considered late 90s British alt-rock, which makes sense considering that’s where they originate from. The Cranberries but less folky and less Irish? I dunno.
Particular songs on the list do resonate more with me than others. Perhaps it is a little presumptuous to say that Fool is relatable, as my experience does not quite line up to that of the lyrics, but there are connections I can draw there so it works pretty well on me. Bonus tracks Drinking and Little Miss both do it for me (wow, really?) with Little Miss’s unexpected aggression and emotion underlying the abusiveness of the second person protagonist of the lyrics and that little unexpected breakdown at the end reminds me of some of my other favourite tunes (Twelve Foot Ninja, of all bands, comes to mind). Drinking, on the other hand, mirrors Little Miss as an acoustic closer that could be from the titular woman’s perspective, mirroring the lyrical relationship between the two. It’s a great way to finish an album with as much emotion as Twilight does, and considering the latter half of The Race of a Thousand Camels was its weaker one, a good addition to the record overall.
I don’t really have much more to add, other than go consume these underrated pieces of media. It’s free content mother fucker (edit: was listening to the Lain soundtrack while writing this and its fuckin wiiild. Theme of Lain? Hella. Theme of a Hilly Road? Is that a didge mate?)

Good artists and songs for future seasons of TUA that aren’t ABBA but are still 15+ years old:
Jewel. This depends on the song, but she put out some good songs. The album version of “Foolish Games” is truly timeless, but “Who Will Save Your Soul” would be my choice for this show.
Poe. Specifically, her album Haunted. Poe (Annie Danielewski) is the sister of Mark Danielewski, the author of House of Leaves, and that book and this album were written as companion pieces. Naturally, despite both works being absolutely brilliant, only the man of the duo saw real success with this project. Poe was even told straight-up that her songs could not be played on the radio because they were mostly female vocals and who did she think she was, Britney Spears? In order to get just one song from this album to play on the radio, she had to rewrite one. Instead of the verses as they were originally written, her brother read an excerpt from House of Leaves in between choruses. This made the song more than 50% male vocals, and it was at last played on the radio. Amazingly, if you listen to the album version and then the radio version, it shows just how brilliant she really is and how well she and her brother worked to complement each other. That song, “Hey Pretty,” would be a fabulous Klaus song, but honestly, the entire album is a tribute to a dysfunctional childhood, a difficult adulthood, and her lost father and pretty much every song on there would be appropriate. “Haunted” would be perfect as a Luther song, but the likeliest to actually appear would be “Walk the Walk” because it is such a bop and is generally about finding yourself and freeing yourself from expectations.
Nirvana. The only drawback to using them is that their discography is so small, with only three albums, so the little we have of them gets hella overplayed. This could be remedied by using a cover version, but good Nirvana covers are notoriously hard to find. Anyway, my personal favorite is “Heart-Shaped Box” for the seldom-used tritone in the riff and the epic chorus, and I feel like it has a wonderfully appropriate tone for TUA.
Bon Jovi. “You Give Love a Bad Name” is already a fight scene song in spirit.
Garbage. “Queer.” Would be kind of great if Diego really is figuring out he’s bi (Little Girl on Bike please tell me David Castañeda isn’t queerbaiting us).
Over the Rhine. A highly underrated band. “Meet Me at the Edge of the World” would be a brilliant match (even if it’s more recent), as would “The World Can Wait,” “I Will Not Eat the Darkness,” “I Radio Heaven,” and “All I Need is Everything.” Also “Born,” which is also less than fifteen years old but is literally about mending a family bond. If I had my choice, I think “I Radio Heaven” would fit the best. Would be especially powerful played over Klaus’ overdose (if that makes it in from the comics).
K’s Choice. “Virgin State of Mind.” Shameless pull from the BTVS soundtrack, but it’s a great song and deserves to be more widespread. Perfect for Lila or Allison.
The Who. “Behind Blue Eyes.” Do not use a cover. Good for Luther, Five, and probably some Sparrows.
Ray Charles. “Hit the Road, Jack.” I don’t even know why. It’s just correct.
The Bravery. They’re newer, but newer as in still well over a decade old. And they’re obscure, so whatever. “Believe” is beyond perfect for the show, with a magnificent riff and a relevant message, such a great song and it definitely qualifies as a bop.
Death Cab for Cutie. “I’ll Follow You into the Dark.” If the sibs need a moment to finally let go of the old Ben so they can properly embrace the new one, this’ll fuck some people up.
Queen, again. It’s such a cliché to revisit Queen on these wish lists, but I’d love to see the show (or any show) include a Queen song that isn’t played constantly. Songs like “’39,” “Lap of the Gods Revisited,” “Save Me,” and “Prophet’s Song” are some of the very best the band offered up, but people putting together soundtracks would rather go with “Somebody to Love” for the millionth time. I’d personally choose “Lap of the Gods Revisited” for this show specifically.
If I could choose one thing on this list to put on the s3 soundtrack, I’d go with either “Believe,” “I Radio Heaven,” “Hey Pretty,” or “Walk the Walk,” depending on which one is most appropriate to what’s happening. I just think they would be especially tonally suited and give some love to lesser-known artists.

Hey! I recently found your blog and read your DbD headcanons and they are hella good!! I was wondering if I could get some for the Blight/Talbot if its cool with you, ty in advance!
Thank you! You more than certainly can! I love that glowstick man!
And, just between you and me, I think he’s grossly underrated in the fandom. I mean, he’s a mad scientist! Igor AND Dr. Frankenstein. He should be held in the same regard as Herman, if not more, because of his rich lore and interesting dynamic with the other killers!
ANYWHO - You never specified what kind of headcanons you wanted, so I thought I’d give you a mixed bag! Some about his anatomy, his personality and finally some lemon-y ones below the cut! (I’ll add them after I initially post this because you can’t add a cut when you first answer a question. Why? IDK, Tumblr's awful)
Regarding his hunchback, you’d assume Talbot has hyperkyphosis, you’d assume, but you’d be wrong. TALBOT’S HUMP IS THE RESULT OF CANCEROUS TUMORS CONNECTED TO HIS SPINE, which he can’t remove, given the risk it would pose of severing his spinal column. THE GROWTHS THEMSELVES ARE THE RESULT OF HIS USE OF THE PUSTULA SERUM, WHICH CAUSED VAST MUTATIONS IN HIS UPPER BODY, as that was the area he most frequently injected himself.
Speaking of the Pustula Serum, TALBOT HAS TO INJECT HIMSELF WITH IT EVERY THREE HOURS OR SO WHEN NOT USING HIS ABILITY. The nectar is strong and alien enough that his body isn’t able to form a resistance or tolerance against it, so he at least has that going for him, but he’s still dependant on it, no matter how much he tells himself that it’s just a boost or some such nonsense.
Furthermore, with his jaw being what it is, TALBOT IS UNABLE TO SPEAK AND MEDICALLY MUTE; he can make noises, yes. But communication in English or really any legible language is impossible. To counter this, he knows rudimentary BSL and can write his thoughts on paper, though he rarely ever has to do this.
Though you’d think that is rendered a monster dependant on nectar from an alien parasite would make Talbot self-loathing, if not humble, but you’d be dead wrong. TALBOT, EVEN IN HIS CURRENT FORM, HAS AN EGO, AND AN ENORMOUS ONE AT THAT. He knows he’s intelligent far beyond the average person, and this fact, combined with his complete lack of worldly wisdom, has left him like the embodiment of r/iamverysmart.
HE’S ALSO VERY SELF-INVOLVED, partially as a coping mechanism, as you can’t exactly get close to anyone in the Entity’s realm and also because getting close to people would mean an obstacle in the way of his ambitions. If he has to care about other people, he can’t go experimenting on other killers, who might seek retribution, and he can’t put all his time into perfecting his serum either. With another person, he’d have to get out his shell and interact, and as nice as that sounds to the human part of him... he can’t entertain these thoughts! Not now, he’s on the verge of a breakthrough with batch 23!
Regarding his, well, cum, to be frank. IT DOES GLOW, but it goes further than that. With the concentration of serum in his body being as much as it is, his come has more than just trace amounts in it. To the point where IF YOU GET HIS CUM ON YOUR SKIN, IN YOUR MOUTH OR OTHERWISE IN YOUR BODY, YOU’LL LIKELY GET A SECONDHAND HIGH. And, while highly unlikely you could get addicted to it, if you’re not careful.
It’s because of this that, Talbot, will NEVER finish inside of you, in or mouth or on your chest. He knows and understands the risk and if you’re close enough for him to sleep with you, you’re close enough for him to care enough not to put you at that risk.
Although the idea of you getting hooked on him does stir something in him, he’d rather not vocalize.

I know others have gotten that stupid question when someone finds out that you like The Beatles they ask, “Oh yeah? Name five Beatles songs that weren’t big hits.” The other day I told someone that my favorite Beatle is Paul McCartney and they said, “Ok, name five songs from McCartney’s solo career.” Laaaaaawd I have nothing to prove to anyone, but it always grinds my gears when people assume I’m only wearing a Beatles t-shirt for aesthetics, or I only love Paul for his looks. Bitch please.
So I compiled this list of songs that I first tried to narrow down to ten and quickly realized I couldn’t even narrow it down to twenty, lol. My favorite Paul McCartney songs post Beatles era are listed below with links to YouTube to hear each song. I left out anything he did as a collaboration just because this list is hella long already. Please feel free to add your favs as well!
~
36. Calico Skies
- I love the simplicity of this song. Paul’s finger picking on the guitar vaguely reminds me of the style of Blackbird.
35. Put It There
- This song has a soft, sweet melody that always gets stuck in my head.
34. The World Tonight
- “I go back so far, I’m in front of me.” Sometimes Paul’s lyrics are awesomesauce, lol.
33. Call Me Back Again
- I love how this song kinda goes back to his roots. Very oldies, very bluesy. Lots of wailing Paul and great guitar licks.
32. This One
- Might be a song for John if you squint sideways and upside down. Another one that’s a definite earworm.
30./31. Venus and Mars/Rock Show
- I’m sort of cheating but these two songs def go together. Venus and Mars is very melodic and draws you in, jumping right into the rocker that is aptly named Rock Show. A great way to kick off the V&M album.
29. C Moon
- This tune is very sentimental to my sister and me. As kids we’d run around the house singing it at the top of our lungs. Also, the beginning when Paul misses the intro and just keeps the gaff in the song makes it that much better, lol.
28. Somedays
- A quiet song, Paul’s more thoughtful, reflective side. The dueling acoustic guitars and harp are especially lovely.
27. Big Barn Bed
- I used to skip over this song because I thought it made no sense. Then one day it hit me how much fun it is. And now I wanna keep on sleeping in a big barn bed too, haha.
26. With a Little Luck
- One of those uplifting, positive tracks that Paul is so freaking good at creating.
25. Young Boy
- Just the way Paul sings “looooooong” and “strooooong” at the end of a couple of the lyrics. And the guitar solo kicks ass too.
24. Goodnight Tonight
- Ooh boy, where to start with this song? First and foremost, that BASSLINE. Perhaps it’s a disco-ish dance number that meets electronica? I don’t even know. John said he didn’t like this song but he loved Paul’s bass playing on it, so there you go, lol.
23. Nineteen-Hundred and Eighty-Five
- This one is very upbeat, but the slowed down intermission with the “ooohs” is what makes it interesting to me. It also includes some amazing piano playing.
22. Hi, Hi, Hi
- I prefer the live version of this song, but it’s tons of fun no matter what.
21. Junk
- A very soft tune that would have fit perfectly on The White Album. Very stripped back and almost sad.
20. Off the Ground
- Paul at his very best at creating melodies that are catchy and fun and don’t delve too deep. “I need lovin’, you need lovin’ too.” And you can’t forget the hand claps and la la las! Good luck getting this song out of your head.
19. Live and Let Die
- I’d be surprised if you haven’t heard this song sometime in your life. It’s one of those songs where you hear it and go, “Wait, I know this song. This is Paul McCartney?!” He be James Bond like that, heehee.
18. Dear Boy
- I’ve heard this song is about Linda’s ex. Some think it’s about John. Either way, it’s a catchy little tune.
17. Take It Away
- This is a great song even before you realize how amazeballs Paul’s bass playing is on it.
16. Monkberry Moon Delight
- Y’all, WHAT EVEN IS THIS SONG?! I don’t know, but it’s so freaking FUN! Paul’s poor voice though. I feel like he probably couldn’t talk for a week after laying down the vocal track, lol.
15. Too Much Rain
- Ugh, this song is so beautiful and so sad at the same time. Paul trying to be optimistic as always.
14. Dear Friend
- Is this a song about John too? Maybe. Probably. A haunting melody with a solitary piano for most of it, with a heavy feeling of regret, at least imo.
13. Band on the Run
- Here you get three songs in one, not unlike the Abbey Road medley but completely different as well. Paul knows how to kick off an album, that’s for sure!
12. Maybe I’m Amazed
- I prefer the live version of this song too, but it kicks you in the gut no matter what. Paul loved Linda so much, and he lets everyone know it.
11. Tug of War
- Ok, I don’t know if this song is about John. It could be. It sounds like Paul’s talking about something…more. “In another world we could stand on top of the mountain with our flag unfurled.” “We will be dancing to the beat played on a different drum.” What is Paul trying to say exactly? Many have debated the lyrics to no end. You decide.
10. Too Many People
- This is FOR SURE about John, and the breakup of the Beatles. And it started a song war between John and Paul that would go on for years. But it’s also a bop, lol.
9. Here Today
- This is Paul speaking to John after John’s death. And it’s completely heartbreaking. I have to be in a certain mindset to listen to this one.
8. Hope of Deliverance
- If this song doesn’t get your foot tapping and your head bopping, idk you might want to check your pulse.
7. Silly Love Songs
- DAT BASS THO. For real, this song is built around Paul’s bassline and it’s amazing! Also, this was Paul basically giving John the finger for making fun of his “granny shit” and “silly love songs.”
6. Jet
- This is one that I crank up in my car and it may or may not make me drive a little faster, lol. I love it so much.
5. Little Lamb Dragonfly
- A two for one! Both songs are lovely, but I particularly love the dragonfly lyrics and melody. (Yes, this song is possibly about John as well (“how did two rights make a wrong?”), but it’s debatable.) Listening to it once usually isn’t enough for me.
4. Little Willow
- Whew, this one makes me emotional. The guitar, the lyrics, the piano, Paul’s voice – all so soothing and unbelievably soft and achy. It breaks my heart in the sweetest way.
3. Mull Of Kintyre
- Arguably the biggest hit of Paul’s solo career, it’s like the Hey Jude of its own time. And it has freaking BAGPIPES, lol. This is one of those songs that you’ve heard before, but you don’t know where and you don’t know how, you just have. It will stick with you for a long time.
2. Let Me Roll It
- This song. THIS SONG. Ughhhhhhhh. So sexy I can’t even begin to explain. You just have to listen and let it take you there. Another one where the bassline makes you want to weep. Tingles. Tingles everywhere.
1. Wanderlust
- This will forever be my favorite solo Paul McCartney song. Completely underrated and simply magical. George Martin has said that this is Paul’s greatest vocal performance and I wholly agree. His voice is so pure and melodic, I sometimes get emotional listening to it. The song as a whole just checks all the boxes of what I most love about a Paul McCartney song – beautiful, melodious and timeless. There’s that old jokey saying, “If this ain’t played at my funeral, I ain’t going.” Yeah, this is that song for me.
#the beatles#paul mccartney#mclennon#i spy mclennon#long post#this was harder to do than i thought#i love a whoooole bunch of paul songs lol

1. Rooftop - N.Flying
2. Soso - Winner
3. Wonderland - Ateez
4. Highway to Heaven - NCT 127
5. Undercover - A.C.E
7. Lit - Oneus
8. Sweet Chaos- Day6
9. Savage - A.C.E
10. Fuego - U-Kwon
January
“Lonely Night” - KNK
I was anticipating KNK’s return. I was very curious as to what they would do after leaving their company and having Youjin leave and Dongwon join. But they did not disappoint at all. Dongwon proved himself very much and it’s one of my favs this year.
“I’m OK” - iKon
I was so ready for this song. I love it so much. I was so ready for this song I was at school ready for it. iKon have never disappointed me with a song and this one is no exception. I adore it and listening to it makes me miss B.I.
“Say My Name” & “Hala Hala” - Ateez
Ateez was always on my radar. But these songs really made me notice them you know. I still bop to them both daily and like this is peak Kpop to me. This is the standard I expect from groups. Ateez really is out here to kill
“Rooftop” - N.flying
This song might be favorite this year. I’m not the biggest N.Flying stan (Really getting into them tho) and I love this song. This song might be my number 1 this year. I love it so much.
February
“Want” - Taemin
Taemin is a god. That’s all I really have to say. Like Taemin really is on another level. This whole album is a blessing.
“Enough” - SF9
SF9 are a group to look out for in my opinion. They really have their own sound and I can appreciate that. I have all of their albums in my playlist. I listen to this one frequently.
March
“Tuxedo” - Ravi
If you want to be happy. Listen to this song. It just puts a smile on my face. I genuinely like all of Ravi’s albums and think he is really promising as a musician.
“Thrilla Killa” - VAV
Still kinda sad Jacob isn’t in this one because wow. But VAV are underrated kings of the year. Thrilla Killa is such a fun song. I really have been enjoying VAV’s releases.
“Miroh”- Stray Kids
I will be jamming to Miroh until the day i die. I will be doing the Haka part of the choreo to this dance, until the day I die.
“Vibe” - 1Team
This might possibly one of my favorite debuts of all time. The song is so chill and mature yet still fun and I feel like you got to hear every member’s strengths and I adore it to bits and pieces.
April
“Doves” - Gree
(Couldn’t find a gif for the mv)
I really fell in love with this song after stumbling on it accidentally. The song is really different and I really really like it.
“Tu Eres” - Newkidd
It makes me so happy to see Hansol find his place somewhere. After he left SM and the SMrookies, he joined The Unit and I was just kind of like when is he going to find his place, is he going to go solo? I’m just happy he found his place. All around this is a solid debut.
“Bloom Bloom” - The Boyz
I have had a hard time getting into the The Boyz, I still don’t know any names or anything but this is the first song that really peaked my interest. I really love songs like this. It’s so fun and fresh to listen to and it puts me in a good mood.
“Bet Bet” - Nu’est
Nu’est is really coming for me. I love every release they have brought out over the years. They are just so good. Baekho’s vocals are god tier and I adore this song. The album is amazing as well.
May
“Ah Yeah” - Winner
Winner have been so refreshing and just lovely lately. Their recent comebacks have really made me adore them even more. “Ah Yeah” is a song I have been listening to a lot lately and it just makes me really happy.
“Undercover” - A.C.E
We all know how I feel about A.C.E. This song is in my top 10 this year, maybe even top 5. A.C.E have so much talent and the video and the styling are amazing. But like the rap is God tier.
“Highway to Heaven” - NCT 127
I chose this song over “Superhuman” because it’s superior to me. Highway to Heaven makes me feel like a college student, going on a spring break roadtrip with my friends. Also in my top 10 this year.
“Twilight” - Oneus
I didn’t put their debut in this, even though it was amazing because Twilight is superior. I love this concept, this song and these boys. Oneus are proving themselves to be monster rookies and I am here for it. “Now” is a really good b-side.
June
“Wave” & “Illusion” - Ateez
It’s not surprise that Ateez makes the list again. This album was the one I bopped too all summer and I will never not “HAKUNA MATATA YAAAA”
“RPM” - SF9
I LOVE SF9. Look RPM is superior in everyway and form. The choreo, the styling, the song, the mv, JUST EVERYTHING. I was so shook when this song came out omg.
“Side Effects” - Stray Kids
Boy my head hurts. I love Stray Kids, I love their songs. This song totally caught me off guard and as much as I prefer it when Stray Kids isn’t as angry, this song is amazing and no one can change my mind.
“Questions” - Zelo
I missed my baby. It’s nice to hear his voice again. I love this track it’s really nice and summery. Looking forward to more things by my baby.
July
“Rolling Rolling” - 1team
1Team are rookies I didn’t know what to expect from. But their songs are so chill omg. I love every single one of them and like I just feel hanging out at the beach when i listen to them.
“Time of our life” - Day6
Day6. I love this song. They had so much fun with it and it’s just so good omg. Day6 for the win. K-Bands for the win.
“Sunset” - KNK
Oh lord. KNK came for my throat. I want more KNK in 2020 because I need it. This song reminds me of a fashion show.
“Give me more (ft. De La Ghetto, Play n Skillz)” - VAV
Fun summer songs always win for me. Also VAV always win for me. I really like the dance and just the vibe of the song. It is kinda generic but I still really like it and listen to it alot.
“Boom” NCT Dream
Boy these boys have grown up so much. It warms my heart and makes me sad at the same time. I still listen to this daily.
“Face” - Woosung/Sammy
I love this song so much. It’s so refreshing and nice to listen to. Sammy’s voice is like butter.
August
“Come back home” - Target
This song surprised me. I generally don’t go into groups I don’t know with high hopes, but I really like this song and the choreography.
“Final Kiss” - IZ
This is a band I have been getting into too. Final Kiss is a great way to end the summer and it’s a really nice refreshing and fun. The drummer really caught my eye, because he’s hella cute and the main vocalist is so talented.
September
“Hit” and “Fear” - Seventeen
Fear made me nearly crap myself at the beginning of the song. It caught me so off guard but in the best way. Hit is just such a fun song and a hype song. I yell along to it in the shower almost every time.
“Lit” - Oneus
I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH. How they made such a fun song that I willbe listening to 10 years later is besides me. Oneus really out proving themselves. Another one for in my top 10.
“Human” and “Daredevil” - Zico
I have mentioned in the past how much I love Zico and his music and this was the return I wanted. The Thinking album is just amazing. Zico manages to put every emotion there is into an album.
October (A lot of great releases here)
“Jopping” - SuperM
I will be jopping to the end of time. Look a lot of people hate the thought of SuperM and stuff. But like, to me SuperM is just alot of amazing in one group and the songs are really cool. So yeah and they created their own verb.
“Why” - ONF
(not the right mv but yeah)
This song really put ONF on the map for me. It’s so different and nice. I love it. The mv is also incredibly and the vocals are too.
“Wonderland” - Ateez
Again, no surprise. This song is still on repeat for me. I love it, I want to tattoo it on my forehead. i want Yunho to “Kajaaaa” all over me. I love it, love it, love it. Can’t wait to see them live in 2020. Also in my top 10 this year.
“Good Bam” - N.Flying
A chill feel good song that I adore. Me and my friend talk alot on voice chat on discord and at the end of the night we say ‘Good Bam’ because of this song. It’s just so fun.
“Runaway” - TXT
I am not the biggest TXT stan, I like some songs and that’s about it but, Run away is an amazing song. The mv is lovely, the song is great and I really like the choreography.
“Poison” - VAV
VAV came for my throat and they didn’t have to. Also in my top 10 this year.
“Sweet Chaos” - Day6
I listen to this and i want to scream along. We got a lot this comeback, Young K’s forehead, a full album and all of Day6 in suits. Another one for in my top 10.
“So So” - Winner
SoSo came out after I broke up with my boyfriend and let me tell you, perfect timing. This mv is one of the best I have seen ever and the song is amazing. Winner really stepped up their game this year. Another top 10.
“Follow” - Monsta X
This will be a Monsta X era I will cherish forever. Enough said.
“Savage” - A.C.E
We all know my A.C.E tangent I went on and I will not apologize. Another one for the top 10. No one does it like A.C.E. MORE A.C.E IN 2020. Also Wow’s rap in this song needs to be 10 verses longer, for my health.
November
“Calling my name” - GOT7
Got7′s best title track yet? IDK but to me it is. I also love all the b-sides and I feel like everyone got to show off their strengths.
“Make this” - 1Team
The beat drop in this song is something I haven’t quite heard before. I really like it and the video reminds of like a 90′s video game which is pretty cool. 1Team really are my favorite group out of boygroups who debuted this year.
“Balloon” - Zico
Zico man, I love this video and song so much. It encapsulates alot of my own emotions and it’s beautiful.
“Blue Flame” - Astro
This song had me so shook. I have really been getting into Astro and this is my first comeback with them and I am not at all disappointed. Astro man...
december
“Fuego” - U Kwon
I love this song so much. I want people to cover dance it, the choreography is so fun and I’d do it myself but I can’t dance. I love the song and it was like the last thing I expected in December and it is in my top 10.
“Levanter” Stray Kids
a bittersweet comeback. But still beautiful, I’m proud of how far they have come and Stray Kids have never disappointed me. The choreo is lovely and Seungmin’s vocals are beautiful.

Underrated SVT songs that need love (in my opinion)
Pretty U
- so this song is such a bop, honestly it’s probably my favorite title track next to Thanks
- lyrics talk about confessing to your crush even though you’re nervous and that’s just SO CUTE AND RELATABLE bc a lot of us have been there
- there’s also a really good mashup of pretty u and shine by Pentagon that gives me life
- best stage personality from the boys and every performance of this song is iconic plz give it more love
Swimming Fool
- hands down the best Performance Unit song, like highlight got nothing on swimming fool
- it’s so carefree, fun and wacky and the boys have so much fun performing
- the choreography is so well done and just screams Hoshi bc it’s so unique and funky
- I crack a smile every time I watch a performance because of the charisma coming from the the boys they’re so cute
- Dino’s vocals are amazing too
Flower
- I had to make this gif so ignore the lil stick lmao
- okay FLOWER
- tbh it’s not as underrated as I think it is but I still wanted to showcase TALENT
- the best is everything and Seungkwan/Jeonghan vocals are so smooth??? And angelic?? Ugh this song wrecks me
- also Dino and Minghao did the choreo and from a performer’s perspective it’s so amazing; the minute details, nuances in the movements, fluidity, and the motifs for the flower are so cool!!
- plz listen to this song it’s so good and all the performances are fantastic
Run to You
- this is my favorite b-side track from SVT hands down (directors cut is the best mini album fight me)
- the LYRICS
- also it’s practically a rock song and I’m living for that vibe
- I need a vocal unit cover of this song where they all play instruments again
- the bridge to this song + woozi/seungkwan high notes leading into the last chorus is iconic
- I belt this song in the shower and I’m proud of it
Happy Ending
- out of the three japanese title tracks I think Happy Ending is the most underrated one
- Callx3 got a lot of love (it’s also my favorite of the trio) and Fallin’ Flower surprised us all because of its structure
- but happy ending?? She slaps and everyone seems to forget that
- another rock vibe kind of song with hella awesome vocals
- the track itself is really well crafted and the vocals and raps fit perfectly into the vibe of the song
- plus the dance is iconic we love shoulder dancing
- also- THE INTRO!! Iconic.
Crazy in Love
- I went back and forth between this song and Fast Pace, but eventually I went with Crazy in Love is my personal favorite of the two
- go show love to Fast Pace tho
- I know I’ve mentioned vocals A LOT but the vocals in this song are fantastic!!
- the chorus itself I could listen to repeat all day and not get bored (especially Josh’s parts omg)
- the stage outfits were also really pretty and I liked them a lot bc they were simplistic but suited all the members really well
- the little foot choreo thing going on (see the gif) is also really cool and I love it
Without You
- this track is also one of my favorite b-sides bc I love me some good EDM music
- I think this song blindsided a lot of ppl bc of it’s relationship to DWC and then it was kinda forgotten??
- like it came out with teen age but it wasn’t really there until they dropped a dance practice
- also not everybody likes edm or non vocal chorus stuff it’s not a fan favorite in the experience I’ve had
- the dance is really smooth and fluid but also sharp and I really appreciate how well the boys can control both styles of dance
- harmonies are phenomenal too!!
20
- last but not least is 20, my favorite vocal unit track (also their debut track as a unit)
- since adore u was a LONG time ago (five years to the day) a lot of people don’t really listen to the album & it’s songs anymore but all of them were really iconic?!?!
- 20 is just another really fun and carefree song which is different from the regular ballads that the vocal team usually puts out
- also the song is literally about enjoying your life in your twenties and experiencing everything it has to offer
- who doesn’t love that sentiment?
- also JOSHUA’S VOCALS
- ALL OF THEIR VOCALS
- it’s just a bunch of really talented individuals jamming out and I appreciate that
Lmao I hope y’all liked my rant, I wanted to do something for the five year anniversary that wasn’t too predictable. Go listen to the songs and comment your own underrated favorites!!
