Operation YAN
C/w: Imagination station, woo. Fake humans, mentions of government, unhealthy behavior, mentions of murder, mentions of pedophilia, mentions of homophobia, mentions of other sexualities, mentions the word "love" a lot, mentions sacrilegious things (making fun of religion, kind of? All in good fun, of course), no beta we die like men
A/n: So I was thinking–I know, such a dangerous occupation–but I was thinking, I want to write a universe much like that one genshin doll au (good lord, why is that when I can't find what I'm looking for until I'm not looking for it???) or any hypotheticals. It's probably already done before but I still wanna write it. Masterlist
It started with an idea.
Jesus (pronounced hay-SOOS)–Yes, that was the name of the man who changed the world–Alfaro was listening to a good friend of his going on and on about his ex-girlfriend, who left him for various reasons.
His friend clicked his tongue. “Man, if only I wasn't such a dumbass… But then I wouldn't be such a dumbass if she wasn't such a dumb bi–”
A light bulb lit up in Jesus's head. What if I were to biomedically engineer the perfect woman for my friend? he thought.
It sounds unrealistic how this idea came about, but to be fair, this rendition was passed down for generations.
Jesus had a biomedical degree sitting on the back burner for several years now since he couldn't find any work. AI had already taken over most of the available jobs. For Jesus and his friend, the last time they saw a human worker in a fast food restaurant or a construction worker was probably when they were in middle school. Jesus was only able to pay for the ridiculously expensive tuition from a lottery scholarship, and he had to work twice as hard as any human in history just to graduate since most of his classmates were AI bots (why AI felt the need to subject their own to school life is beyond anyone's understanding).
Anyway, back to the point. He decided to make use of his biomedical degree and scrounge up all kinds of materials to make his idea happen, from flasks to dials to an incubator. This process included gathering a few samples from his friend, such as hair, saliva, blood, urine, and genital fluids.
“Bro, that's gay.”
“Dude, don't you want the perfect woman though?”
His friend clicked his tongue. “Shit. Fine. Just… just give me a several minutes.”
It only took a minute for Jesus to get a semen sample, but that's digressing from the story.
Anyway, it took several years for Jesus to make it happen, but it happened. The perfect woman, based on his friend’s preferences, was born.
Jesus almost didn't give her up to his friend because he felt like he was giving up his daughter to a fiend. He valued his friendship, yes, but he had to admit his friend was such a dumbass when it came to women.
But miraculously, his friend became a changed man after meeting this perfect woman. Overnight, Jesus's friend became a devoted, and loyal charmer who also became the perfect husband to his wife and father to his children.
Why did this work, one may ask?
Well, Jesus had taken into account biological and sexual compatibilities when he was constructing the perfect woman for his best friend. First, he was able to somehow alter his friend's DNA, so their future children wouldn't inherit any dysfunctional genes that would shorten their lifespan or quality of life. This also eliminated the idea of incest, despite this perfect woman being constructed utilizing his friend's DNA, since Jesus had to make many, many, many adjustments to his friend's sperm to change it into a viable egg. It would've been far easier if Jesus could have secured an egg sample from a willing woman, but the idea of his friend copulating with what is essentially his female self was far better than… well, a “daughter”. Leave it to Jesus to look out for his friend. 👍
Jesus was not initially an ambitious man, but his friend would brag about his love life to anyone who would listen. This led to Jesus gaining attention, both good and bad attention. There was a point where Jesus had to give birth to several perfect women for a notorious gang who threatened to kill his loved ones.
It was easier this time to grow a woman in a lab, since he already had the knowledge. However, the same thing that happened to his friend happened again to these gang members. These vicious beasts became the most upstanding citizens he had ever seen after they were given their own perfect woman. It was like the power of love performs miracles.
That's when it started the flame of his ambition, and he began to seek out all of the resources and connections he could to continue performing these miracles. The government caught on and decided to collaborate with Jesus in order to combat the world's falling population numbers.
And so, Operation YAN was launched.
The initial batch targeted young, straight men who displayed too much maiden-less behavior to get and keep a lady–much like Jesus's friend. Instead of being upfront about the whole process, the government decided to plant Jesus's women into places these men would most likely frequent, such as adjacent houses making them neighbors.
Most of the women were kind of similar, which may be a result of the targeted men being similar. Friendly, loving, affectionate–so affectionate since they were born to love that these biologically engineered women were codenamed “Your Affectionate Neighbor” aka YAN.
Of course, success was expected and received. However, it may have worked too well…
These biologically engineered women were born to love, but humans are very complex creatures. Not only because these women were born literally days old as adults instead of growing up like natural human women, but because they were constructed to love only their target. Their target, of course, fell in love with them truly but they have their own lives too, whereas these YANs don’t. And the idea of their target leaving them or paying more attention to someone else was far too much for them to handle, that there became cases where these YANs would mercilessly kill anyone they perceived as love rivals.
Since most of these victims tended to be other women, Operation YAN extended to producing male YANs for single straight women in order to combat these jealousy allegations. Eventually this operation expanded their production to include producing YANs for homosexual, bisexual, asexual, etc people since apparently these YANs get jealous way too easily when it comes to meeting a person who is single. Love comes in all shapes and sizes, so having a platonic YAN by your side is better protection than not having one! 😀
Nowadays, you can even have a YAN that grows up with you–Pardon? That branch was discontinued due to general discomfort, pedophilic allegations and child murders? Of course, of course. Apologies, folks. Due to potential abuse of these YANs (whether you consider them human or not) and various ethical reasons, you must be an adult at the legal age of 25 to receive your very own YAN.
Why 25? That's because you can only receive one YAN in your lifetime! And it is very important that the details and preferences you fill out on your paperwork are very, very thought out.
Speaking of which, if you want to get your own YAN today, log into your personal tablet and fill out the required electronic work. Here is a preview:
You must be 25 and older to be legible to receive your very own YAN.
You must sign and print your first name, middle name (if applicable), and surname in all of the indicated boxes, to ensure your informed consent. You must also write down your Social Security number and your permanent address in all of the indicated boxes.
You must completely fill out your personality quiz to the best of your ability.
You must completely fill out your ideal type to the best of your ability.
You will be required to be fingerprinted and photographed for recognition purposes.
You will be required to supply a blood sample, a hair sample, a saliva sample, a urine sample, and a discharge sample from your genitals (if applicable–if you do not have genitals, then you do not need to provide this particular sample). We will have licensed doctors provided for you if need be.
Failure to complete all of the above properly will result in the negation of this application.
Finally, once you place your application, there are no refunds.
Allow us to repeat: ATTENTION!! THERE ARE NO TAKEBACKS. RETURNS ARE IMPOSSIBLE. YOUR YAN WAS CREATED JUST FOR YOU, THEREFORE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO REUSE SAID YAN FOR ANY OTHER PURPOSE EXCEPT TO LOVE YOU. IF YOU ARE UNHAPPY WITH YOUR YAN, PLEASE MAKE THE BEST OF IT. Thank you and have a wonderful life with your YAN. In Jesus, we trust. 😊

Cheater III
Summary: You found out Max cheated on you part 3.
Warnings: angst and fluff by the end
Word count: 2.5k
Part 1 and Part 2
Cheating in a relationship is the saddest thing. It can kill the personality from the inside. Bring changes a lot mentally. These situations turn into you to be good or bad. Some may be helpful to be stronger.
It feels bad when our loved one cheated, cause we are well connected to our partners. We had a lot of plans for that person to spend a most valuable time of ours. When it isn't going to happen then it feels unsuccessful or bad. Expecting something from another person is common in humans. When it turns down we feel such pain, like stabbing with words, The words have the power to kill or to give life to the opponent's mind. The reason why people say 'think before you talk'.
True love doesn't involve multiple people... You knew that.
When you are in love with someone, you don't cheat and you're not talking about just finding others attractive. You just don't desire to be sexually intimate with other people when you are truly "in love" with one person. You're not talking about caring for someone or loving in general.
You're talking about the head over heels, you're soulmates, the stars have aligned and nobody else has what you have, a type of love that consumes your whole being and makes you want to give that person the world. And that includes giving them the greatest physical pleasure that they can possibly experience. Cheating takes that away from you and that is why it hurts.
The person you are in love with and desire, who you thought felt the same way is revealing to you that intimacy with you is meaningless when you thought it was special. They do not desire you in the same way that you desire them. They are not "in love" with you in the way that you thought. All of your love is in vain.
“Why do we feel bad, even horrible, when our partner cheats on us?"
A trust, expectation, a promise was broken. This type of violation hits you closer to the heart because you have let that person through all your external defenses. Because you fear the loneliness that you are going to face. Nobody wants to end alone. When you put in so much for your relationship, you want it to last. But when your partner cheats you think that you would end alone, gradually realize this happens and life doesn't end here and someone else is going to come into your life.
Why do guys cheat on girls?
Both men and women cheat. In some cases, the reasons are simple: humans are animals with sex drives. We are biologically programmed to "spread our seeds." We have other instincts, such as loyalty, honesty, and guilt feelings. Those drives duke it out with lust in our brains. Sometimes, lust wins. It's more complicated than that because we tend to associate sex with so many other things: youth, freedom, adventure, personal attractiveness, you name it.
You know people make all sorts of excuses like, “I wasn’t happy in my relationship” or “I didn’t know what I was doing” or “I don’t find my partner attractive anymore” or “someone convinced me to do it.” You’ve heard these. But it’s funny to you.
A cheater can never have any excuse. They do not deserve to have that say after cheating on someone.
If you weren’t happy in the relationship, then why didn’t you break up first and had sex with someone else? Why didn’t you say that you needed a break and then had sex? Also, how can someone even convince you to cheat on your partner? It’s nonsense.
Some people will even go as far as to say that the other person made them feel loved, so they got swayed away. If you are not feeling loved by your partner and someone else is doing that job, then aren’t you supposed to figure out your feelings first, maybe break up with your partner and then be with someone else? That’s common sense.
Nobody deserves to be cheated on. The blame is ALWAYS on the cheater. Nowadays people even try to justify cheaters. It’s insane. To you, all the answers to “why” are simply just excuses trying to justify their unacceptable behavior. You know, how they always say that a person who cheats once will cheat again.
Since you found out that Max cheated on you and until this moment, so many months have passed that you have the impression that you have started to heal. You were with a man who made you feel fulfilled, happy, and loved. There were days in a row when you didn't think about Max, but even when you thought, you had in mind only the beautiful moments. Like when, for your first date, he rented your entire favorite restaurant and he cooked for both of you, even though he didn't know how to cook more than just one egg. Or when you first visited him at a Grand Prix for the first time and he won and came to you and kissed you in front of all the cameras, telling everyone that you are his lucky talisman. Or, your favorite memory, when you were at his house after you met his family and heard him talking to his father about you. Sure, you didn't understand a word they said, but Victoria translated to you what was most important about that conversation: Max loves you so much and if he doesn't get to marry you, he'll never marry anyone else.
As dear as your last memory may be, it is also painful because it is like a slap in the face to the fact that there was a time in your life when you were in love and now you were no longer together.
When you told your family that you started seeing another man, more than 6 months after you and Max broke up, your mother asked you how you could get into a relationship so quickly. relationship.
To be honest, you weren't ready yet. You were damn scared but Stephen, your boyfriend now, went after you a lot and you decided that if you don't give him a chance now it will be many years before you think about going on a date with someone else. You knew it wasn't going to be a long relationship. You didn't have much in common with Stephen, but he was a good, sweet boy, and you needed someone who wouldn't make you hate all the men in the world.
"Look, I'm not saying you didn't go through something traumatic, but it's been almost a year since then and I think it's time to come and show everyone that you're not afraid of anyone or anything," says Anthony who called you on facetime one Sunday night after the race.
"But I'm afraid."
"Just shut up, no one needs to know. You just come here, you smile, you laugh, you act friendly with everyone and you're going to look like you're better of without him."
You sigh and get out of bed, and go to the kitchen to get a pill for your headache.
"But he will be there..."
"Okay, so? Who cares about him? I'll always be by your side, I promise he won't talk to you."
"Can I come with Stephen?"
"You know I can't stand him, Y/N. Take him with you to the next Grand Prix, I don't feel like seeing him now, okay?"
"I'll think about it."
You have decided, however, to go to the last Grand Prix of the season, in Abu Dhabi. No one but Anthony knew you were coming to the race.
You forgot what a busy atmosphere it was on Sunday. However, everyone who saw you came to you to talk a little and to tell you that you missed them. You smiled and answered that you missed them as well.
The road to Red Bull Racing was long and short at the same time.
"Do my eyes see well? Y/F/N Y/L/N!" says Christian Horner, who comes to you and hugs you.
You first see Sergio Perez who waves at you, happy to see you, then you see Max who comes from somewhere in the back. Had he just heard your name?
"Hey, guys! I'm so glad to see you again. I missed you all."
"And we missed you, Y/N!" Christian answers on behalf of all Red Bull Racing employees. "Welcome home."
You giggle.
"Thank you."
In less than 10 minutes since you got there, Anthony broke his promise. He promised not to leave you alone so that Max could not come and talk to you.
"Hey," Max says softly, coming behind you.
You shivered at his voice, a voice you've dreamed of every night since you broke up. You turn to him and analyze his facial features. He was the way you remembered him, maybe even more handsome.
You look left and right for Anthony but you can't see him.
"Hey." You answer Max and your heart starts beating much harder.
"I'm so glad to see you... I missed you."
The desire to take him in your arms and kiss him was so strong that you felt dizzy. You couldn't focus on anything, not even a few words to say.
"Do you think that we... We could see each other after the race to... Talk?" he asks, moving his weight from one foot to the other.
"Okay," you say and regret it the next second.
"How stupid am I for wanting to get back together with Max after he cheated on me?" you asked Anthony.
"First of all, you're not stupid for wanting to get back with your boyfriend. Relationships are the most real things anyone can experience. We're growing while we're together. As we grow, we also go through many different behaviors in life. Behavior does not make that person. Behaviors come and go as we grow into who we are. No one is perfect. You cannot name one person you know to be 100% perfect, right?" you shake your head and he continues. "We all grow organically, and the best thing about being in a relationship is that you get to watch each other grow. You get to experience the person you care about to develop. Relationships are like walking through a door that you don't know what's on the other side. But you go through the door without any fear, doubt, or unbelief. Relationships are the livest-realest- life experience. He is a man. A man can only love once or twice. Just because Max has sex with a woman, doesn't mean he loves her. He just wanted to get his rocks off for a moment. When it is all said and done, he loves you. It may sound strange but just think of all the men you knew. Think about all the relationships you knew about. Think those who have been together for years on out. So, no you're not stupid for wanting to embrace your boyfriend's "only temporary behavior". You're smart for wanting to have the courage to walk through the next door. You're smart for being optimistic and knowing that things will get better with time. You realize the importance of maintaining a companion."
You blink several times.
"Why do I feel like you've practiced this speech in front of the mirror several times?"
He laughs and runs his arm over your shoulder.
"Maybe because that's what I did?"
You laugh and you hug him.
"Thank you for being my friend. So you're saying I should give Max another chance?"
"You don't have to give him a chance if you don't want to. But listen to your heart. Don't just do it because I'm saying so because you might regret it and you'll blame me. If you want to give him another chance, just do it. He's not the kind of man to cheat. I don't know what was on his mind when he did it with Kelly. But something tells me he regrets what he did and he will never cheat again."
"Hey, can we talk now?"
"Sure. Congrats on the win!"
"Yeah, thanks."
You both went to his room to talk. You were scared and your palms were sweating. You didn't want to start the conversation because you had different scenarios in mind, all different, depending on what Max would tell you the first time. You swallowed hard when you entered his room. The last time you were there, you two broke up.
“I’m truly sorry for hurting you.” he started saying after he closed the door behind you. "I care for you more than anything. I’m deeply sorry for hurting you… Hurting you is the most painful thing I have ever done. With a bruised heart and a deflated ego, with a sad soul and a head hung low, I apologize to you. An apology is nothing to what I’ve done; but still, I know you have a forgiving and understanding heart and won’t let resentment destroy our love. I have shown you what an idiot I can be by making that mistake. Now it is your turn to show me what a darling you can be by giving your anger a break. Without you I feel lonely, I never want to lose you in my life. I am sorry and I’ll work hard on changing my behavior. I know that I caused you a lot of pain. Whatever happens, remember that I am the guy, who will always be there for you in good and bad times. I know you’re angry now, but I want you to know that I didn’t mean to hurt you. I’m sorry for hurting you. I am ready to make amends. If I could, I would have wiped your memories about all the terrible things that I have caused you, but all I can do is to promise you that I’ll create only happy memories for you. I hope when you feel ready you can forgive me."
His words took you by surprise. You knew he would try to apologize, but in your mind, you weren't crying. You knew before you came to the room with him that you would forgive him.
"I forgive you. To be honest, I think I forgave you before we broke up but my ego was hurt and I couldn't forgive you so quickly. What you did was horrible and I hated you for so many months for making me feel so small and insignificant. But I love you. And I want to give ourselves another chance."

This was written with time I 100% did not have and I’m so going to regret wasting it later.
Luo Binghe had always planned to come back for Shen-laoshi.
It’s why he’d chosen to study business in the first place. If he wanted to steal Shen-laoshi away from the job that was stretching so thin he was already close to breaking when Luo Binghe was only a high school student, he needed to make so much money that Shen-laoshi could not say no. If Shen-laoshi were to think, even for a second, that supporting him would weight Luo Binghe down, he would remain a teacher for the rest of his life, Luo Binghe knew it.
Luo Binghe had expected this would take at least a few years, even with the prestigious university degree he only got because Shen-laoshi personally tutored him for so long.
He hadn’t expected the shortcut life had sent his way, but he was not going to ignore it.
“…Binghe? Is that Luo Binghe?”
Luo Binghe feels his stomach drop. Shen-laoshi could never be anything less than stunning, but even his visible joy at seeing Luo Binghe again cannot mask the dull, almost sickly pallor of his skin, or the deep bags under his eyes. As Luo Binghe feared, the terrible school he had attended had eaten Shen-laoshi alive. He’d always known that good intentions wouldn’t be enough to permanently counter chronic lack of funding and colleagues so apathetic they could only be matched by the students, but witnessing it this obviously tears at his heart.
Luo Binghe had never planned a conventional courtship. He’d known since he was fifteen that Shen-laoshi was his soulmate. He didn’t want to wait. If Shen-laoshi were to ask, Luo Binghe would marry him right here and now. The ring he’d gotten for him had been the first major purchase he’d made, once he’d understood he’d never have to restrain himself again.
Saving Shen-laoshi is more important that Luo Binghe’s romantic intentions. He has to take him away from here, as fast as possible. He hadn’t planned on moving this fast, but since summer break is fast approaching… “Does Laoshi knows who Tianlang-Jun was?”
Shen-laoshi blinks at the non-sequitur. They’d been catching up moments ago, and now this? “…Yes?”
“After I graduated from college, I found out I was his only biological son. His only family still alive. He left me everything.”
Shen-laoshi lefts out a polite, unbelieving laugh. “Really? How lucky for you.”
Luo Binghe hands him his phone. Does Shen-laoshi even have a decent phone? The older model he’d used when Luo Binghe was still a student here cannot possibly still work, can it? “You can look it up, if you want to. There were a couple articles about it.”
Luo Binghe stays silent at Shen-laoshi’s face turns astonished, before he gives the phone back. “Wow. Binghe, congratulations! Or should I be offering you my sympathies? You’ve never met him, have you?”
Luo Binghe shakes his head. “That’s not why I told Shen-laoshi this. Laoshi should know that I’m very, very wealthy. I’ve taken over my father’s affairs, and I fully intend on keeping things that way.”
Shen-laoshi blinks, confused. “I’m very happy for you, of course. Binghe deserves it more than anyone, after all the hard work he did to get ahead. But why are you telling me? You must have many friends now. Maybe a lover? You don’t have to hang you with your old teacher anymore.”
“Come home with me.”
Shen-laoshi tilts his head just a little, before gesturing to the mountains of tests he’d surrounded with. “As Binghe knows, the semester is almost over. I have tests to grade.”
Too many to only be his class’. Luo Binghe bets older teachers have left Shen-laoshi their share. Again. Still.
He grits his teeth. He’d chosen to approach Shen-laoshi in July exactly because of this. He’d thought they could get closer during the summer months, and with luck he’d convince Shen-laoshi not to return in September.
September is too far away. “Shen-laoshi shouldn’t waste his valuable time on this! Look at him, so exhausted, so pale, so thin! Has he been eating at all after I stopped bringing him food? Laoshi, your student cannot let this stand! Shen-laoshi needs to stop working. Instead, he can stay with me. I make more than enough to support him!”
He can see Shen-laoshi fluster. “Binghe, what nonsense are you spouting? You can’t just take people in like they’re stray dogs! And I’m perfectly fine! I can take care of myself without having my former student worry about me like I’m a child! Really, Binghe, are you the one working too much? It’s the first time we see each other in years, is this really what you want to say?”
Luo Binghe has never heard more blatant lies. Shen-laoshi couldn’t even meet his eyes as he spoke. He’s on the verge of a breakdown, anyone could see it.
He won’t let this stand. “Shen-laoshi isn’t a child, but I’m not one anymore either. I’ve thought this through. Why do you think I came to visit Laoshi here, at school? I wanted to see if he was doing better, or if he’d moved on from this place, but since it isn’t the case, it’s clear he needs help. Help I’m more than willing to offer, in exchange for all those years he spent tutoring me.”
Shen-laoshi’s voice softens. “Binghe, no. You don’t owe me just because I was doing my job.”
Shen-laoshi wasn’t just doing his job. Even when he met with Luo Binghe at his desk, Luo Binghe had been aware that he sometimes intruded; that Shen-laoshi had pushed back grading or his second job aside to give Luo Binghe, the one interested student he had, the attention he needed to blossom.
No matter what Shen-laoshi says, Luo Binghe owes him the world, and he’ll give it to him. “I want to. Shen-laoshi would stay inside, reading the books he doesn’t have time to read right now and resting until he’s well again. Wouldn’t that be nice? I assure him my home is equipped with any luxury he might need, and if something is missing, I’ll get it for him. All he would have to do is be there for me when I return. That’s not much to ask for, is it?” The work day would be never-ending if it were keeping him away from Shen-laoshi, but it would also be so much more worthwhile. Working to keep his beloved safe and happy would fuel him through each day.
“If Binghe is lonely, he can get a girlfriend! They must be fighting to get at you! Keep your teacher out of it!”
Luo Binghe shakes his head. “I don’t want women. Laoshi is the only one I want in my home and in my bed. As I said, I’m a man now, and I know what I want. Living with me would be so much better for him than,” he gestures to the decrepit teachers’ room, “this. Laoshi has to accept that much.”
Shen-laoshi’s skin is now white as a sheet. He probably finally figured out that Luo Binghe was serious.
Good.
“Binghe really… Do you realise what you just said? Binghe wants… You’re not well. If you prefer… men, that’s perfectly fine. Get a boyfriend who’ll be your equal. Don’t offer to… pay older men to…” The rest of the sentence dies out, Shen-laoshi obviously too distraught to continue.
Distraught, but not disgusted. “I said I wanted Laoshi, not anyone else. I wouldn’t offer such a deal to a stranger. I just want to give back to Shen-laoshi for all he did for me.”
“Binghe has a strange definition of giving back.”
To be honest, Luo Binghe would wire an obscene amount of money in Shen-laoshi’s account each month if he thought for a minute that his former teacher would accept it. He just knows he won’t.
But if he’s his… Shen-laoshi has a reason to accept his generosity, and Luo Binghe has a golden opportunity to demonstrate his devotion. “I have no plans to trap Laoshi in something he doesn’t want. I came to see him because the semester is almost over. How about he comes spend a week at mine, see how he likes it? If it doesn’t suit him, he can go at anytime. I won’t ever restrain his movements. I just think it would be a better deal for both of us. Or does Laoshi doubt me? Have I ever given him a reason to distrust me? I was always a good student, wasn’t I? I can tell Laoshi needs some time to recharge. Some time away from all of this, for him to be taken cared of properly. I would love to provide that time for him.” Luo Binghe advances a bit, and takes Shen-laoshi’s frail, trembling hand in his, closing his own, much warmer, fingers over his gently. “Please?”
Shen-laoshi stares at their joined hands, apparently mystified at the fact that he’s not taking his back.
Luo Binghe is content to wait.
“…This is crazy. I can’t possibly be considering… Binghe, are you certain?”
Luo Binghe has never been more certain of anything. “Yes.”
“…You said just one week?”
To begin with. Luo Binghe has no intention of having him leave after said week. Shen-laoshi will be so thoroughly wooed, he won’t even realise seven days have passed until a month has. “One week.”
Shen-laoshi rubs his temples in a gesture that reveals how much his own existence weights on him. “I must be insane. Who does that? Binghe, who does that? Who do you think I am?”
“My teacher, and the only person I want.” He lets his hold on Shen-laoshi’s hand turn inviting, rubbing with a touch so light Shen-laoshi shivers under its caress. “Think of it as a vacation. Laoshi deserves one. That’s not so strange, is it? A vacation away from everyone and everything, where you only have to think about yourself, for once.”
“And you.”
“And me.” Luo Binghe won’t let Shen-laoshi forget about him, not even when he’s at work.
“Why me?”
“Why not you? Shen-laoshi is beautiful.”
He laughs. It’s a bitter, ugly sound that Luo Binghe instantly hates. “I am not. You said it yourself; I’m tired. I’ve exhausted myself. I look twice my age.”
Luo Binghe rolls his eyes. He’s never heard anything more ridiculous. “You do not. Laoshi barely looks older than I.”
Luo Binghe thought Shen-laoshi would keep on arguing. He could go on for hours, when Luo Binghe got him in the right move. His anger had been captivating, as a child. Luo Binghe had dreamed of creating such passion in him.
He might have a chance to, now.
Instead, Shen-laoshi is vanquished by the years of overwork. Luo Binghe can tell. It’s not his proposal that seems rational, or Luo Binghe himself that’s too appealing; it’s, as he expected, this revolting environment that Shen-laoshi wants to escape from for a moment, even if the only way to do so is by running in Luo Binghe’s arms. “Fine. If Binghe wants to do something as stupid as taking his old teacher as a charge, he can do it, as long as he doesn’t expect much. I don’t have anything left to offer.”
More nonsense. Shen-laoshi, tired to the core and depleted as he is, has more to offer than the prettiest of the heiresses who tried their hands at him.
Luo Binghe gives him a card, folding his fingers over the thick paper. “My address. Shen-laoshi should come on the first Sunday after the term has ended. I’ll be here to welcome him properly. And I won’t let him forget. If he doesn’t show up, I’ll come pick him up. He can pack, or he can bring nothing; either way, I’ll provide anything he needs.”
Shen-laoshi’s fingers twitch over the paper before he pockets it. “I see. I’ll do as Binghe says, then, and come visit him on Sunday, unless he gets his senses back and takes back his offer, in which case, he should call to say so.”
As if. “Shen-laoshi shouldn’t count on it.”
Shen-laoshi sighs. “I’m starting to understand that.”
By the end of the week, Luo Binghe will make sure Shen-laoshi knows down to his bones that when it comes to his teacher, Luo Binghe’s senses have left him long ago. “I’ll be waiting, then.”

One of the boys
summary: Hobbits are terribly sexist and have incredibly traditional views on gender roles. Bilba Baggins is a female Hobbit who by normal standards should have married 10 years ago – and she’s just about done with The Shire and everyone in it. Gandalf gives her an out, and it’s an out she was never going to refuse, no matter how dangerous it may prove to be. Alternatively: my excuse to make Bilbo and Thorin lesbians.
pairing: fem!bilbo x fem!thorin
warnings: I just want to give a little warning for themes like sexism, misogyny etc. I also just want to say that there is unintentional misgendering on the part of the female dwarves. I want to clarify that in this fic, the gender-swapped dwarves are all cisgender, and the dwarves perpetuate the idea that they’re all male when they’re in the company of outsiders (but I still thought it worth mentioning just in case this could trigger someone ❤️)
word count: 3135
Bilba Baggins shifted uncomfortably on her pony. She still wasn’t used to riding Myrtle, and she certainly wasn’t used to life on the road. The Company had only been travelling for a week and a half, but the female Hobbit already found herself missing her bed and her armchair and her bookshelf and her pantry. Despite her sore behind and empty stomach, Bilba was glad to be with Thorin and his company of dwarves, and the Hobbit was proud to join them on their quest to reclaim their homeland.
When Bilba looked ahead to the horizon she noticed with some surprise that the sky was getting dark. Well, that explained the relative quiet – the dwarves were always less rowdy when they were hungry and ready to rest for the night, though she highly doubted that any of them ever felt as bone-shatteringly exhausted at the end of the day as she did. Her gaze shifted from the skyline to the two dwarves riding in front of her, and Bilba smiled to herself as she thought back to when the dwarves had first tumbled into her Smial.
-
Bilba collapsed against the inside of her front door as soon as she’d shut it. A sigh escaped her as she dropped the heavy basket she’d been carrying on the floor. The only thing that had given her enough strength to stay at the market long enough to complete all her shopping had been Gandalf’s promise of strange guests to her Smial that night. Gandalf. She’d hardly recognised him at first, but she knew he’d been her mother’s close friend, and it was nice to see him again after such a long time. Even if her memories of him were a little faded.
A groan left her lips as she pushed herself off the door and bent down to pick up her basket once again, and despite her best efforts to keep her mind blank she began to replay the interactions she’d had at the market that day.
“My dearest Bilba-”
“I’ve already asked you not to call me that.”
They continued, unperturbed.
“My dearest Bilba, you haven’t invited me to dinner yet, and I-”
“Please, call me Mistress Baggins.”
“- I would be most disappointed if you didn’t.”
There was a short silence, and Bilba, desperate to be left alone with her shopping, had decided to swallow her pride for the sake of peace.
“Y-yes, well… I’m sorry, I’ve been busy.”
He seemed – regrettably – highly encouraged by her lack of scathing denial, and seemed to think her reply somehow invited further conversation.
“Ah, my dear, I understand. You must have so much to do without a man about Bag End, but never you fear! I am sure the situation will be sorted soon.”
Bilba blinked owlishly at him. He apparently thought he was being charming. She clutched her basket tighter, knuckles whitening, and could not help but feel repulsed.
“Right… well, forgive me, but I must be getting on. My pantry is rather bare.”
“Of course! It is admirable that you take your womanly duties so seriously. Good day, Bilba!”
An invitation to a private meal; the first stage in Hobbit courting where the one being courted reciprocated the attentions they were being shown. Apparently, a long time ago, the courting hadn’t been gender-specific, but now the cooking of the private meal was entirely the domain of female hobbits.
“Disgraceful, is what it is.” Bilba muttered to herself as she shuffled to her pantry to put away her purchases.
Bilba had been approached by no less than three male Hobbits at the market asking when they would be invited over to Bag End of an evening. A fourth had approached in an attempt to present her with a frankly gaudy bouquet of flowers that she’d artfully dodged. As if that hadn’t been enough, she’d also received near countless comments from older, married Hobbits – both male and female alike – telling her how lucky she was at her time of life to have so many suitors, but that she’d better not wait too long to finally accept one. The biological clock was ticking, and all that.
Those were the comments that really got under her skin. Bilba was no fool. She knew that most eligible female Hobbits were married by the time they reached forty. Bilba had already reached fifty. Still, she didn’t think that gave anyone the right to comment on the apparent lack of use she was making of her womb. Just because having children was the done thing didn’t mean that she had any intention of doing it. Still, it was safer to let them think what they would, and say what they wanted with no corrections. The longer they all believed she actually wanted to mother children, the longer they’d believe she actually had any interest in marrying – which she did not. In fact, Bilba Baggins had no interest in men at all.
Bilba reached the pantry, and she scowled as she set the food out on the correct shelves. There was another reason, she knew, as to why at 50 she still had so many eager suitors – other than the love they all professed to feel. Bilba was a Baggins. The Baggins of Bag End, and that came with reputation, social status, and wealth, which no doubt all of her suitors couldn’t wait to get their grubby little hands on.
Yes, Bilba thought, hands on hips, I think I should like an adventure very much. Anything to get away from The Shire for a time.
Four hours later, her first guest arrived. A dwarf? Gandalf hadn’t mentioned anything about dwarves. Still, she welcomed this ‘Dwalin’ as politely as she could. He was eyeing her up, like he wasn’t sure what to make of her, but when she led him through to the dining room – where the table was laden with a spread fit for a Hobbit feast – his standoffish aura had completely melted away.
Eleven more showed up in quick succession, and when Gandalf greeted her she’d jokingly told him he was lucky his companions were arriving under the cover of darkness.
“I’m not sure I’d be quite able to explain away the scandal if my neighbours caught sight of twelve male dwarves turning up on my doorstep.”
Some of the dwarves exchanged looks at that, which she caught but didn’t understand. Perhaps dwarven culture was so different that they didn’t understand why there would possibly be a scandal.
Bilba hung back a little as the dwarves in her home ate, drank, and talked rather boisterously. She didn’t begrudge them their merriment, in fact she enjoyed watching so many people so happy all together, but it was a little too much for her to take when she’d essentially been living in self-imposed isolation since her parents had passed.
Rather lost in her thoughts, Bilba didn’t immediately register that there had been yet another knock on her door. The sudden, startling silence of her present company dragged her back to reality, and when Gandalf helpfully – albeit rather dramatically – announced ‘he is here’ she was able to infer that there was someone at the door and she went to open it.
The door swung open and oh, but if that wasn’t the most glorious mane of dark and silver hair she’d ever set eyes upon. Bilba could hardly be surprised by the more than slightly disappointed twist in her stomach when one of the younger-looking dwarves yelled ‘uncle’ from behind her.
So this is also a male dwarf. She was disappointed, but made sure to keep her expression clear. It wouldn’t do to accidentally offend her guest just because she’d hoped he might actually be a female dwarf.
As Bilba stepped aside to allow her newest guest to enter, she remembered what she’d been told about female dwarves - that for other races they were sometimes considered indistinguishable from men, as both men and women grew facial hair. It occurred to the Hobbit that she should not have assumed all her guests were male, but then again none of them had corrected her, and she had also overheard them all calling each other ‘he’ and ‘brother’. It seemed she’d been spared the embarrassment of mistaking their gender, for which she silently sent a prayer of thanks to her Lady Yavanna.
This new dwarf ignored the call of what must be his nephew and passed through the doorway into Bag End, addressing Gandalf first before anyone – which Bilba found rather rude, as she was the host, and therefore was owed an introduction.
“Gandalf. I thought you said this place would be easy to find. I lost my way, twice. Wouldn’t’ve found it at all had it not been for that mark on the door.”
Bilba was struck by his words, and instantly rose to the defence of her home as any self-respecting Hobbit would.
“Ma- There’s no mark on that door. It was painted a week ago!”
“There is a mark, I put it there myself.”
She turned to look at Gandalf, mouth hanging open for a moment. In her stunned silence, Gandalf snatched the opportunity to introduce her to her guest, the sneak, for he knew she would not risk being impolite to a stranger. Still, she would definitely be having words with Gandalf when she got the chance, very strong words in fact, about why you should never deface the door of a Hobbit Hole… or any door for that matter! A wizard should certainly know better!
“Bilba Baggins. Allow me to introduce the leader of our company, Thorin Oakenshield.”
“So, this is the Hobbit.”
Dear lord, Bilba thanked the stars this dwarf was male, for she would surely otherwise have swooned under the intensity of that gaze… and he called her ‘Hobbit’! She was used to hearing tell of outsiders only knowing to use the word ‘Halfling’, unaware of quite how rude they were being. She was rather glad she wouldn’t have to correct him.
Then, unfortunately, the dwarf had to go and ruin her first impression by thoroughly intimidating and interrogating her, even going as far as walking around her in a slow circle – the nerve – and then he and his company completely ignored her! They were in her home. She had prepared a feast for them, the least she deserved was the typical respect shown to a hostess. Honestly, if she wasn’t so desperate to leave The Shire, and if they didn’t come with Gandalf’s personal recommendation, she would’ve been seriously reconsidering accompanying them on whatever little adventure they were going on.
Bilba avoided them for a little while, allowing their apparent leader to settle in and eat his fill. She finally re-joined them when they started talking about their quest, although she stayed hovering behind Gandalf and not actually sitting down with them at the table. Not that there were any free seats left for her, had she decided she wanted to.
It was all very dramatic, especially when Gandalf somehow pulled an old key from who knows where. She knew she should’ve been paying more attention to what exactly was being said, but it was a little difficult when she felt so thoroughly excluded from the conversation. Still, one sentence stuck out to her more than most, and she found herself answering it without thinking.
“That’s why we need a burglar.”
“Hmm. A good one, too. An expert, I’d imagine.”
“And are you?”
Bilba physically turned to look behind her at that, because this dwarf couldn’t possibly be implying that she, Bilba Baggins, was a burglar.
“Am I what?” She asked, giving this ungrateful guest a chance to explain himself, for she was nothing but civil and she was determined to remain so.
Unfortunately, another dwarf who – bless him – had an ear trumpet and therefore could not be blamed for his confusion, cried out in gladness.
“She said she’s an expert!”
Bilba had to set things straight.
“Me? N-no, no no no no, I’m not a burglar. I’ve never stolen a thing in my life!”
Unless you counted the conkers she’d taken from someone else’s garden at age 18 and never been blamed for, or the last cookie from her mother’s plate when she was 20 – which her father had been blamed for, at least initially – or the poor flowers that Lobelia had planted in her front garden in entirely the wrong place. The sweet things were never going to survive like that, Bilba was merely rescuing them…. well, perhaps she had stolen a few things, but never anything substantial, and she certainly wanted these strangers to know it. What fantastical lies had Gandalf been feeding them about her?
Balin – she remembered his name because he had been one of the more polite members of the party - seemed disappointed.
“I’m afraid I have to agree with Miss Baggins, she’s hardly burglar material.”
Well now, that should have been a compliment… so why did it sound like the reverse?
Another dwarf, Dwalin, spoke next. She remembered his name only because he had been the first to show up at her door.
“Ay, the wild is no place for gentle folk who can neither fight nor fend for themselves.”
Bilba felt suddenly cold. Was her place on their adventure only secure if she was to be their burglar? Would they leave her behind now they knew she wasn’t? The dwarves around the table started bickering amongst themselves, and Bilba could not catch a word any of them were saying. She had no idea what to do, but it seemed that Gandalf did. The room darkened suddenly and Gandalf – already so much taller than everyone present – seemed to grow taller still.
“Enough! If I say Bilba Baggins is a Burglar, then a Burglar she is!”
Whatever strange power he had called upon melted away once he had everyone’s attention, but still he continued, and Bilba had to admit his reasoning did make sense as to why a Hobbit would be a good choice, which meant his reasoning for choosing her was also sensible, as she very much doubted that Gandalf would easily find another Hobbit who would even consider going on an adventure.
“Hobbits are remarkably light on their feet. In fact, they can pass unseen by most, if they choose. And while the Dragon is accustomed to the smell of dwarf, the scent of Hobbit is all but unknown to him, which gives us a distinct advantage. You asked me to find the fourteenth member of this company, and I have chosen Miss Baggins. There is a lot more to her than appearances suggest.”
Once again that evening what should have been a compliment felt like an insult, and Bilba was rather beginning to dislike the manners of her present company, Gandalf included. She was still seething about the mark on her freshly painted door.
“And she’s got a great deal more to offer than any of you know!”
Well, that was more like a true compliment. Perhaps Bilba could endeavour to forgive the wizard. In time.
“Including herself.”
No, he had once again disgraced himself. How dare he? He had no idea the strength she had to possess to get through even a single day in The Shire whilst trying to be true to who she was. Bilba Baggins knew her own worth, thank you very much.
“You must trust me on this.”
Bilba looked from Gandalf to Thorin, who seemed to be weighing the wizard’s words carefully. After a pause, he leant back in his chair and shook his head once.
“No Gandalf. I will not be responsible for Miss Baggins in the wild. She has no experience, no skill with a blade or with burglary. I do not want her death on my hands, for die she surely will. She will be of no use to us, we must find some other burglar for our quest.”
Bilba’s mouth hung open, and she stared at the back of Thorin’s head in stunned silence for just long enough that he had settled his position in his chair again and seemed to be preparing to move on to another topic when she finally found her voice.
“How dare you?”
Her first words were barely louder than a whisper, but the outrage they bore carried across the room. Every dwarf turned to look at her.
“Did you not hear everything Gandalf has said? You need a Hobbit, and you won’t find another willing to go with you, that I can guarantee.”
Bilba’s eyes glanced to Gandalf, who was looking at her with an amused twinkle in his eyes, which only served to irritate her further. He shouldn’t find amusement in her distress, the nerve of it.
“I could be of great use to you, not that you’ve bothered to find out anything about me other than that I have a well-stocked pantry!”
Some of the dwarves already looked vaguely chastised as she stared them down, hands moving to her hips, but she was by no means done. Bilba finally had an outlet for all of the aggravation she’d built up over the course of the day, and by golly she was going to let them have it all.
“I have taught myself many things here with my father’s books! I can speak and read Sindarin, I can heal many different ailments, I am a very learned Hobbit! But perhaps this will make you want to take me even less! I have heard it all, had all the old quotes used against me by family members who expected me to have mothered at least 4 young Hobbits by now; ‘when a woman has scholarly inclinations there is usually something wrong with her sexual organs.’ I’ve caught aunts trying to smuggle away some of my father’s books to prevent my learning!”
(side note, that’s a quote from Friedrich Nietzsche. I’m serious.)
She paused to catch her breath, which had quickened both from her anger and from her rapidity of speech.
“I refuse to stay in The Shire to suffer more and more unwanted offers of marriage from Hobbit men I have no intention of accepting. I refuse to limit my experiences as I am expected simply because I am in possession of a womb. If you will not accept me as one of you, I shall be coming along anyway, for I’m sure Gandalf will be accompanying you, and I shall be accompanying Gandalf!”
Her eye’s met Thorin’s, and her anger threatened to crumble and give way to embarrassment at her own outburst, but she held her ground. After a moment of silence, Thorin seemed to smile very slightly, which confused her somewhat.

There is one thing that Henry has always wanted in life and that was getting married and having a family of his own. Growing up with four brothers, he always envisioned himself being surround by a beautiful wife, with lots of kids.
But he has reached the age of thirty seven and though he hasn’t got a lot to worry about—his biological clock isn’t ticking—he thought that by now, he’d at least have a wife and one kid.
Now he only has Kal, his loyal canine that he adores with all his heart. He takes a sip of his beer, as he watches some lame romantic comedy. It’s Friday night and as a single man, he could be on a date of course, but his profession as an actor, makes it even harder to date.
Most women are either in it for the fame and his money.
He witnessed his relationships crumble apart and now he is back being single, sitting on the couch with his dog, staring at a television screen. Last year he was thinking about starting a family, but he pushed it aside, enjoying his life as an actor. The movies he did were going great, but after the latest movie he did…
It was kind of a flop. It didn’t meet up to the expectations of the public and since that moment, he has been living a quite boring life, not thinking about taking any other offers. He wakes up, walks Kal and thinks about ways to meet the love of his life.
Henry isn’t so sure anymore about his acting career.
His mind wanders during the movie. He thinks about a future with a wife and kids. He can already see it happening: he would roll over in bed, wrap his arms around the love of his life, to slowly wake her up, before their kids would rush into the room and jump on their bed. He can imagine his beautiful wife sitting on the kitchen counter, with a few mini versions of them sitting next to her, as he is cooking for the entire family.
Henry rubs his face, fatigue kicking in. He shuts off the television and gives the big bear a kiss on top of his head. ‘You want a little something to eat before you go to bed?’ he asks Kal.
Kal wags his tail as an answer, accompanied with a bark.
Henry can’t help but chuckle.
It can pretty hard training Kal, but with the right amount of snacks, this dog can listen to him. Sometimes he even thinks that Kal can read his mind.
They go to the kitchen and he gives him a little kibble before he sleeps. He opens up the newest Doggy Herb bag and notices a slight change in color, but he shrugs it off. He bought Doggy Herb since the day he got Kal, so maybe there is more meat in this one that in the previous ones. He throws some in a bowl and watches as Kal gulps it all up.
The two of them walk up the stairs when Kal is done eating and he gets himself ready for the night. Henry stares at the sink in the bathroom, noticing the space that is left, because he doesn’t have anyone to share it with.
Before he can feel totally sorry for himself, he spits out the toothpaste and walks to his bedroom. He strips down to his underwear and steps into the bed, Kal joining him on the sheets.
He watches Kal falling asleep almost instantly and hopefully Henry can do the same.
But he can’t.
His mind keeps racing, constantly racing. The terrible reviews of his latest movie, the way how women kept saying how they want to have his kids, but none of them is good enough. He wants to fall in love with someone, someone who understands him, who loves him for who he is. A woman that he has an instant connection with. A woman where he can be himself.
When he does fall asleep, Henry dreams about a faceless woman, who holds onto his hand, as they watch their little kids running around in the yard, Kal barking as he runs in between the giggling kids.
That’s all he wants.
Henry is about to give his faceless wife a kiss, when he wakes up from hurling sounds that definitely aren’t his. He opens his eyes, turns on the light on his nightstand, to see Kal puking out his kibble on the new carpet.
Great, exactly what he needs. This is why he can’t have new stuff.
Henry gets out of bed and sits next to his dog. ‘Bud, you okay?’ he asks, but Kal’s legs give out and he collapses to the floor. His eyes are still open, but he whimpers and his breathing isn’t going as steady as it normally is.
‘No, no, no, Kal,’ Henry says, panic dripping through every word he speaks. He tries to find his phone as quickly as possible and Googles ‘Animal Clinics London’. He calls three different clinics, but none are picking up, not even the one that he usually goes to. He sees one that is an hour away, but in all honesty, Henry would arrange a private jet to fly them off to a vet that did pick up the fucking phone and he didn’t even care if he had to travel to another continent.
The phone rings twice, before he hears: ‘Animal Clinic Westside, doctor Olivia Tran, how may I help you?’
The woman sounds friendly, that’s a good start. ‘Hello, I’m terribly sorry for calling at this hour, but my dog is vomiting and I see some blood in it. He collapsed and is breathing really heavily and I don’t know what to do.’
‘Sir, it’s okay,’ she says. ‘Did your dog eat anything out of the ordinary today?’
He doesn’t even know for sure. ‘Not that I know of.’
‘You think it’s possible for you to come to the clinic? I’d like to see the dog.’
‘Of course, of course,’ Henry says.
‘I hope it’s not too much to ask, but could you take some of the vomit with you? Especially the part with some blood. I’d like to check it.’
Doctor Olivia Tran could’ve asked him to bring three human kidneys and he’d bring it, anything for his Kal. ‘I’ll bring it with me, of course.’
‘What kind of breed is your dog, sir?’
‘An American Akita. His name is Kal.’ Henry strokes the fur of Kal, blinking away the tears.
‘I’ll be at the clinic in about forty minutes, mister…’
Henry picks up on what she’s trying to do. ‘Cavill and I can be at the clinic in about an hour.’
They hang up shortly afterwards and Kal lets out a soft whimper. ‘Hang in there, bud,’ he tells the dog. ‘You can’t die on me. You really can’t.’
≫≫≪≪
With a weak Kal in his arms, Henry rushes into the clinic, only to discover that doctor Tran is already waiting for him. He doesn’t know what he was expecting, but he certainly wasn’t expecting her. He is mesmerized by her dark brown eyes, her perfect lips and her hair that’s in a messy bun, a few strands framing her face.
This woman is beyond beautiful. He can’t believe that someone like her is even real. The way she tilts her head, while she scans him shamelessly from top to bottom, makes him feel all sorts of things.
He concludes he has been single for too long.
‘Mister Cavill?’ she asks, causing him to snap back into reality.
‘Yes,’ he hastily says. ‘That’s me.’
‘Follow me.’ She walks in front of him, into the first examination room. Her fingers tap on the table and he gently places his dog on the hard surface. She strokes the fur on top of Kal’s head. ‘Let’s see what’s with you,’ she says, putting on some gloves. ‘You brought the samples?’
‘Yes, yes, I did,’ he says, clearing his throat. He shouldn’t be mesmerized by the vet in front of him, but he can’t stop staring at her. He hands her the bag and she sets it aside, while she opens Kal’s eyes, looking into them.
Before he can say something else, he hears small footsteps echo into the room. ‘Can I watch?’
Henry looks up, to see a small girl standing in the doorway. This must be the daughter of doctor Tran, because that girl is the spitting image of the woman standing in front of him. The doctor does look young though, almost too young to have a daughter who is at least five years old.
He needs to shake the thought of the doctor off of him, he tells himself. She has a daughter, so there is a plausible chance she’s taken.
Doctor Tran doesn’t look up from her clipboard, while she’s scribbling something down. ‘If mister Cavill doesn’t mind.’
The young girl looks up at him, two hopeful eyes meeting his. ‘No, of course not,’ he says, his heart melting at the sight of the hopeful look in her eyes.
The little girl walks over to the examination table, dragging a stool with her. She stands next to Henry and even when she’s standing on it, she can barely peek over the edge of the table. ‘Mommy,’ she asks, confirming that the little girl is indeed doctor Tran her daughter, ‘should I introduce myself?’
The doctor nods, while she checks the vomit, scrunching her nose. ‘That’s the polite thing to do, sweetheart.’
The girl holds out a tiny hand and says: ‘My name is Vanessa Tran.’
‘Hi Vanessa,’ Henry says in a soft voice, before holding onto her hand, that nearly disappears in his. ‘My name is Henry Cavill and this is Kal.’
Doctor Tran looks up from the bag of vomit. ‘Henry Cavill?’ she asks. ‘Isn’t there an actor whose name is Henry Cavill?’
‘Yeah, there is.’ Henry chuckles, feeling a bit awkward, but also amused that she doesn’t recognize him. It’s nice to be unrecognizable, even if it’s for a short amount of time. ‘That actor would be me.’
Her eyes widen. ‘Oh,’ she says, but she can’t seem to find the right words to say.
‘Mommy, is this man famous?’ Vanessa asks, while not breaking eye contact with Henry. The little girl blinks her eyes, almost in disbelieve that someone famous is standing next to her.
Doctor Tran pulls herself together. ‘Yes, sweetheart, he plays in some movies. He even played Superman.’
Vanessa widens her eyes as well and yet again she looks just like her mother. ‘Wow, Superman is here.’ She starts to giggle, a sound that Henry already adores. ‘So, if you are Superman, you are really strong.’
‘He is,’ doctor Tran says, placing the vomit samples aside. ‘He carried his dog inside.’ Henry can’t help but beam with pride as he takes in the compliment from the doctor.
‘Wow,’ Vanessa says again. She holds out her arms and asks him if he can lift her up. Henry looks over at the doctor, who smiles and simply nods, a non verbal sign of consent.
Henry lifts the little girl up in his arms and she wraps an arm around his neck.
‘I can’t wait to tell miss Sue that I met Superman.’
He can’t help but laugh, the little girl and her comments already making him feel less scared about what can happen to Kal. ‘Doctor Tran,’ he finally says, ‘is everything okay with Kal?’
‘What kind of kibble do you give him?’ she asks, while she is checking his heartbeat.
‘Doggy Herb,’ he answers, while Vanessa is tugging his curls, pulling on one strand until it’s straight, before letting it go and watching it curl together again. ‘Why?’
She looks up. ‘Well, then the news hasn’t reached you yet. We’ve had multiple cases of dogs who started to vomit after they ate the Doggy Herb kibble, some of them included blood. The manufacturer changed something in the ingredients and now lots of dogs have severe reactions to it.’
This woman demands all of his attention, without even trying. She is absolutely breathtaking and if she wasn’t talking about his sick dog, nor had a daughter, he’d ask her out.
‘Oh.’ Henry feels guilty. ‘I thought there was something different about it. I opened a new bag today.’
‘How much did you gave him?’
‘A little bit, at around eleven,’ he answers.
She smiles and without her telling him something, he already feels more at ease. ‘Then you have nothing to worry about. I’m going to put an IV on him, so he can rehydrate a bit. After that I’m going to give him some medicine and I’ll give you something to give him at home. In about three hours, you can take him home with you again.’
‘Really?’
She nods. ‘Really, sir. If you could place him on the floor? That would be easier for Kal and me.’
‘I’m sorry, miss Vanessa,’ he says, before he gently places the girl back on her feet. He shouldn’t feel this desperate need to impress the doctor. However, he can’t help but flex his muscles a little bit, as he carries the dog to the corner of the examination room.
‘Wow, mommy, he is really strong,’ Vanessa says.
‘No wonder he was Superman,’ doctor Tran says. She looks through some drawers and says: ‘I figure you want to wait here.’
‘I do, I do,’ he says.
‘If you want, you can grab something to drink around the corner. Maybe a coffee will help you stay awake.’
Does he look that miserable? Does he look that tired?
‘I can tell you how the machine works,’ Vanessa says. ‘I know how it works.’
‘That would be nice,’ he admits. Vanessa takes ahold of his hand and tugs him with her. He follows the little girl and he sees himself in the reflection of a mirror that’s right next to the coffee machine.
He does look miserable. His eyes are still red from the bit of crying he did when he drove to the clinic and the bed hair looks like multiple crows have been nesting there.
‘My mommy is going to make Kal better,’ Vanessa says, before grabbing a paper cup. ‘You don’t have to worry.’
‘I wasn’t worried,’ he tells the young girl, but the second it leaves his lips, he realized he only said that to impress the doctor. God, he is lying to a little girl, just to impress her mother, who isn’t even in the same room. For all he knows, the woman is married and the girl’s dad is at home.
But, come to think of it, why would she take her daughter to work then?
Vanessa starts to frown and she takes a step to the side, so she’s standing in the doorway. ‘Mommy, can I tell Superman he is lying and that you’re not supposed to lie?’
He can hear doctor Tran laughing. ‘You can tell Superman that, sweetheart.’
Henry feels a little finger poking his thigh. ‘Superman, you are lying and you’re not supposed to lie. My mommy says that you should tell the truth, especially about your feelings.’
He is genuinely impressed. This young girl is really in touch with her own feelings and can verbalize it. That’s extraordinary for someone her age, he thinks to himself. Doctor Tran is doing a good job with raising her.
‘I’m sorry,’ he says to Vanessa. ‘I’ll try to be better.’
‘You should, you are Superman after all.’
He has a paper cup filled with coffee and they accompany Kal and the doctor again. She hands Vanessa a juice box and says she needs to fill in some paperwork, but that the two of them can keep Kal company.
Vanessa and Henry stare at Kal, while Vanessa is slowly stroking his fur. It’s obvious that she’s growing more and more tired with every passing second, but she is desperately trying to stay awake. It’s really endearing, if Henry’s being honest and really not helping with his own baby fever.
‘My mommy is also a superhero,’ Vanessa says. ‘Not like Superman of course, but she always saves animals.’
‘Well,’ Henry says, unintentionally loud enough for doctor Tran to hear it, ‘your mom is an even better hero than Superman.’
That confuses her, because she frowns. ‘Why?’
‘Because I play Superman. It’s pretending. Your mom is not pretending.’
He watches Vanessa nod, as she is taking in what he just said. ‘Yeah, you are right. My mommy is a better hero.’ She sighs deeply. ‘Mister Henry, do you have kids?’
God, the girl is barely five or six years old, but she surely knows how to wrench his heart. ‘I don’t.’
‘Why not?’
‘Why not what?’
She rolls her eyes annoyed, probably thinking he is a slow one for not understanding. ‘Why don’t you have kids?’
He clears his throat. ‘I don’t have a wife,’ he says. ‘And you need two people for that.’
Her mouth falls open. ‘Well, my mommy doesn’t have a husband. I’ve always wanted a daddy,’ she admits with bitter sweet honesty. ‘But my real daddy didn’t want me.’
‘Enough, Vanessa,’ he hears doctor Tran say in a stern voice from the other room.
‘But mommy…’
‘No, enough. Don’t talk about that with strangers.’
‘But this man is not a stranger mom. He is Superman, he can help us.’
Doctor Tran walks into the room, an annoyed look on her face. She doesn’t say anything, just stares at her daughter, raising an eyebrow in the process.
Vanessa pouts. ‘Sorry.’
The doctor leaves the room again and Henry asks Vanessa about school, hoping the kid doesn’t start about her estranged father again, though he wants to know more about that and it is a convenience: doctor Tran is single from what she just told him.
He finds out that she is six and can already read what’s on the posters in the examination room. Even though this kid isn’t his own, he can’t help but feel proud, when she recites the entire alphabet and shows him that she can count to a hundred.
But all while she’s doing that, fatigue is catching up with her and eventually she falls asleep against his arm. He carefully lifts her up, hoping that he doesn’t wake her up and walks to the room where doctor Tran is currently doing some paperwork.
‘Oh, she’s asleep,’ she says when she notices Henry standing in the doorway.
‘Yeah, she was pretty tired.’
She smiles, before holding out her arms. ‘I’ll be right back,’ she says, as she holds her daughter close to her body. She leaves the room and probably will tuck her daughter in somewhere. He sits next to his dog, looks at him, looking less and less fatigued and more like his own happy go lucky self.
‘Kal is looking better,’ she says, while she crouches down next to the dog. Kal stares at her, almost with heart eyes. ‘I recommend you switch to something like Purina One, or something like that,’ she tells him. ‘Doesn’t matter, everything but Doggy Herb.’
‘Is it deadly?’ he asks. ‘The other kibble.’
She shakes her head. ‘Well, no, wait, that’s a lie. If you give him lots of it, it can be fatal.’
‘I feel so stupid.’
The doctor looks at him. ‘Don’t,’ she says. ‘From the looks of it, you are a great owner.’ She checks the bag with fluids and says: ‘I want him on the scale for a second.’ She removes the IV from him, but from the looks of it, Kal is too tired to move.
‘Why on the scale?’
‘To determine how much of the medicine he needs,’ she tells him. ‘We don’t want to OD him, do we?’
It’s almost a cruel joke, but he can’t help but laugh. This woman is quite something and he is seriously intrigued.
Henry is yet again going out of his way to impress the beautiful doctor, but her facial expressions don’t give away much. She turns on the scale and writes down what she sees. ‘You can place him there,’ she says, pointing near the entrance. ‘Maybe the view will help him a bit. He should get moving in about half an hour.’ He places his furry companion near the door and Kal can move his head up, staring to the silent outside world, all still too deep asleep. When he looks at the doctor again, she taps the screen of the scale. ‘Now I know how much you both weigh, but I need Kal’s weight.’
Why is he feeling insecure? She’ll probably know that his weight is mostly muscle, that is shows his hard work. He steps on the scale and watches her scribble something on the paper. When Henry steps off, he notices her frown. ‘What?’ he asks.
‘This only confirms what I thought.’
‘What?’ he asks again.
‘Mister Cavill, your dog is kinda fat.’
She could’ve slapped in across his cheek and he wouldn’t be as surprised as he is now. Kal is fat? ‘Excuse me,’ he says in a defensive tone, crossing his arms in front of his buffed out chest. ‘My dog isn’t fat.’
Doctor Tran doesn’t seem impressed by his facade at all. ‘He is,’ she tells him. ‘An average American Akita weights between the forty and sixty kilos. Your dog weighs seventy kilos, while he should be between the fifty and sixty kilos.’
‘It’s muscle.’ Geez, he never thought he could get this defensive.
The doctor tries to hide a smile and her overall amusement, but she is failing miserably. ‘It’s fat, I already felt that back in the examination room.’
‘But how is he too fat?’
She shrugs. ‘You feed him too much, I guess. I’m not there with you when you feed him.’
‘I give him the prescribed amount of kibble.’ And a bit more, but his dog can’t possible get fat from that, right?
‘Do you train Kal?’
He nods. ‘I do.’
‘And do you give him snacks?’
He searches though his pocket and finds a chunk that he usually gives Kal during training.
‘How many do you give him?’ she asks, studying the snack as she takes it from him.
‘About twelve of those during a training session and I do those about two or three times.’
’No wonder he is fat.’
Does the doctor need to be this crude? His dog nearly died, could she show him some compassion?
‘Mister Cavill, this is the size of a pound,’ she tells him. She breaks it into four smaller bits and adds: ‘Dogs don’t care about the size of their snack. Instead giving him one of those, giving him a fourth, isn’t something he’ll notice.’
Henry sighs deeply, embarrassed of his defensiveness. ‘I’m sorry,’ he says.
‘For getting defensive?’ she guesses. ‘Oh no, it’s totally understandable. Someone is saying something about someone you care about. But, sir, it’s my job to make sure Kal is the healthiest he can be. Just give him seventy five percent of what you would normally give him, give him tons of walks and don’t give him the entire snack, just a quarter will do.’
He nods, taking the tips in. ‘Thank you, doctor Tran.’
≫≫≪≪
Kal is finally feeling better and Vanessa has woken up again. She is hanging around Kal’s neck, giving him tons of kisses. Kal doesn’t seem to mind, because he continues to lick Vanessa’s face when he gets the chance. Henry knew that his loyal dog was good with children, but this is on another level.
‘I’m sorry that I called,’ he says to doctor Tran, who is leaning against the counter, her white coat hanging open, revealing a thick looking sweater.
‘Why? Your dog was sick and you called a vet. It’s okay, I knew what I was doing when I sighed up for the job.’ She looks at her daughter and adds: ‘Besides, I think I have a very tired, but very happy six year old for the weekend. She got to pet a lovely dog and met Superman. Honestly, I should thank you for calling our clinic.’
Henry lets his gaze drop on the petite doctor that is standing next to her. He doesn’t believe in love at first sight, but he certainly does believe in attraction at first sight. It has been a long time since Henry met a woman like doctor Olivia Tran. She blatantly told him his dog was fat and told her daughter that she could say to “Superman” that he was lying. She is definitely something else and he hates it that he has to leave now.
‘Well, thank you,’ he says, ‘for helping out Kal. I don’t know what I would’ve done if he didn’t make it.’ He holds out his hand and the doctor leaves him hanging for a good second, before she places her slender hand in his, adding: ‘It’s my job, mister Cavill.’
‘Henry, please, call me Henry.’
She nods. ‘Okay, Henry, I’ll see you in a few weeks, for his yearly shots he needs to have according to his passport and we have to check if you are a strict enough owner, because this little fatty needs to lose some weight.’ She lets go of his hand, before scratching the Akita behind his ears.
‘Mommy, can we have a dog?’
‘No, angel, we can’t,’ she says. ‘So give Kal one last kiss and say goodbye to Henry, okay?’
Vanessa does what her mother tells her to do, because she gives Kal a kiss on his nose and walks over to Henry, who crouches down, so he is about the same height as the little girl. ‘It was very nice to meet you, Vanessa,’ Henry says.
She wraps her arms around his broad shoulders. ‘It was nice to meet you too, mister Henry,’ she whispers, still a bit groggy. She lets go of him and walks to her mom, holding onto her hand tightly.
‘Thank you, again.’
‘Of course,’ doctor Tran smiles. ‘And I’ll see you in a few weeks.’
He steps out of the clinic with Kal and sighs deeply. This was quite something, he thinks to himself. As he walks towards his car, he looks over his shoulder, only to see Vanessa being picked up by her mother, balancing on her hip. The two of them wave to him and he smiles, holding out his hand and waving back.
When he gets into his car, Kal sitting next to him, he lets out a groan. He shouldn’t have a crush on this vet, he really shouldn’t.
But Henry keeps thinking about how doctor Tran stared at him, how Vanessa hugged him and how his dog seemed to be at ease with them, loving the doctor from the looks of it and adoring the attention Vanessa gave him.
He forces himself to stop thinking about this, because for all he knows, this is the last time he would see either of them. He doesn’t even know if his favorite veterinarian will be helping him when he gets back in a few weeks for Kal’s shots. ‘Forget about it, Henry,’ he tells himself sternly. ‘You’re not a teenager anymore, with a crush on someone he can’t date anyway.’

"Overall, it wasn't so bad..." Tim commented.
"Except for the fact that Bane roared like a constipated bear and literally lunged at Damian and Jason threw him out the window..." Barbara quipped, her face serious but her lips were still twitching. "I... am highly amused. Twice."
"You were laughing until you bent over double that if you weren't in a wheelchair, you've probably knelt on the floor laughing." Dinah deadpanned. "It was hilarious."
"Yes, it was. The fact that Jason could actually lift Bane and throw him out... Did you guys see Bruce's face, though! Oh my god! He... he looked at Jason as if he'd seen the lord savior Jésus Todd or something!" Tim crowed. "Like, the dude Bane got thrown out a bay window twice. I get the awe, I was a little star-struck myself. But I can't believe dude actually wanted to try the third time until Alfred pointed a damn shotgun to his forehead! I can't even!"
"This thus solidifies my thoughts that the Waynes may be trying to figure out a way to get rid of this... brute without... I dunno..." Barbara pondered.
"Gotten themselves broken in half?" Tim suggested. "He sure insinuated that he would do such a thing to Damian."
"Oh, gee, Tim. Which part of his speech insinuated that? 'You lying bastard!', or 'I'll break you in halves!'?"
"I'm partial to the 'bastard' remark, really. I mean, pot, kettle?" Tim replied, giggling.
"Technically," Helena Bertinelli - The Huntress - sighed as she chimed in; "and ironically, at that; the 'bastard' would be Bane since he claimed to be Thomas Wayne's son and is younger than Bruce. Which means he was 'conceived' while Dr Thomas was already married to Mrs Wayne..."
"Right? Bruce and Talia were two consenting adults, albeit under 20 years old; and were wed in a local ritual witnessed by locals, according to Jason. You should see Bane's face when Jason presented copies of the marriage's registry." Tim continued.
"Oh, we saw, all right. Harper's drones worked quite well." Dinah replied, snickering, referring to Harper Row, one of their tech 'consultants'. "Even at that height, it still delivered crystal clear pictures. I vote we use them again."
"No vote needed, the drones are on stand-by at the Wayne Manor permanently at this point. I'm more interested in his reaction when Damian offered them a DNA test." Barbara told her.
"I'm more interested in Bruce Wayne's reaction, really. He didn't seem too surprised, as if he was expecting this to happen or something." Helena pointed out.
"Maybe he did," Barbara replied absently. "Dude has been swingin' more than the roarin' 50s, there has got to be some juniors out there that even he didn't know of."
"Ugh, while I'm not a fan of Bruce Wayne's womanizing ways, I personally don't think he's that reckless. He's not a drinker or a junkie, as far as I know. He has virtually no vice other than extreme sports." Helena argued.
"I agree," Selina, who has been quietly watching from the corner, chimed in. "This is a guy who got visibly antsy when some sexy girls in bikinis come up to him - I thought he was gay. But if he'd been... wedded to Talia Al Ghul all these times, that would make sense. He knew exactly where he stood, and what would come up if he screwed it up."
"Has Jason or Dick said anything of the Doc and Mama Wayne's reaction?" Helena asked.
"They seemed truly confused, a little apprehensive, but didn't seem to be opposed to the idea that Damian is Bruce's child. Dr Wayne said that a DNA test wouldn't be necessary, but Jason insisted it." Tim replied, and added a little absently a few heartbeats later. "But why would he, a physician with more specialties than a truck stop, would not question the biology of anyone claiming to be his biological descendant?"
Barbara glared at Tim, "excellent question, Tim. If my dad has someone coming out of the boonies saying he's related to me, the first thing dad would do is draw blood."
"They... don't care?" Dinah suggested. "Maybe the Wayne men were less... chaste than they appear?"
Barbara glared at her this time. "Of all the women Bruce Wayne has dated, I've only recorded a handful who would end up in a second date. Less than a handful who were actually mentioned beyond social media photos; and you know how I feel with social media photos: generic, unverifiable, and showoff-only. Dates with Bruce Wayne generally would start with the pick-up, dinner, and then some form of jewelry. I..." she looked at Selina and Helena, "you've both dated him at one point or the other."
Selina shrugged, "I went for a gala dinner, and was honestly there to scope the homeowner's safe, really. I wasn't interested in a follow-up date." she replied. "Helena?"
"Social arrangement. My people called his people and boom, we were on a red carpet." she elaborated. Helena was a part of a mafia family, until she decided that the mafia way would not be the best way to make Gotham a happy place for all, and donned the costume of the Huntress to hunt down wrongdoers. Barbara had decided to let her join to prevent her from going over the line and murder anyone out of overzealous-ness; but also in order to get a line-in into the mafia families.
"No second dates, either, huh?"
"No, I'll have to check, though. I think his people called me again, but I wasn't interested in a vapid playboy, even if he has more money than Jesus."
"Vicky Vale," Selina reminded. "She has had a... somewhat lengthy relationship with Bruce some years ago."
"Sooo... the next answer in our mystery could probably be answered by interviewing an investigative journalist." Tim commented.
"Oh, no..." Barbara grinned mischievously. "Not this investigative journalist. I know just the journalist to talk to when it comes to gossip among themselves."
Dinah snorted a laugh. "I thought you didn't like her."
"I liked Vale less," Barbara griped. "Plus, Vale is already getting news on Bruce's probable child; why shouldn't I send Lois Lane the allegations of the Bane Conspiracy?"
"Conspiracy with who?" Dinah asked curiously.
"Oh, the Waynes, of course, to get rid of the Court of Owls," Barbara smirked. "Why should we be the only ones racking our respective and collective brains when we can have someone else on the ground doing the grunt work?"
"Babs, you can be... pretty evil sometimes," Selina remarked. "I know there's got to be a reason why I like you."
"I'm also awesome with technology and can launder your ill-gotten money and make it legal and undetected." Barbara pointed out.
"Oh no, that's why I liked you." Helena quipped smirking. "Seriously, how many mob family can say their ill-gotten money is accountable by law?"
"As long as it is within the facets of the law, and so on and so forth... Anyway! Tim, you're quiet for more than two seconds. I'm always nervous when you're quiet."
"Just thinking..." Tim said, looking a little lost in his own brain. He often does that when he has at least a dozen scenarios running through his mind. Through the time of Barbara knowing him, Tim would probably be the only person whose claims of 'just thinking' wouldn't immediately be picked on by anybody.
"Care to share with the class, kitten?" Selina prompted.
"It's not fully mapped yet... but I was thinking. What if the Waynes aren't... didn't cooperate with Bane in order to destroy the Court of Owls, and they're literally being hostages in their own home? What if Bruce Wayne has predicted something like this could happen, and has gotten himself all prepared all the way to ten years ago when he wedded Talia Al Ghul? I mean, who would have had enough firepower to defeat Bane other than the Al Ghuls? Look at Jason," Tim pointed out. "He threw Bane out the window as if he was a fly. While Jason is as solid as a rock but isn't a metahuman - Bane is. He was assigned by Talia herself - out of Gotham - to protect and guide Damian-- why? What's so special about Jason Todd? Why did Talia choose him? Why didn't Bruce Wayne - at least - act shocked when Damian said he was his son? Surprised, sure. But not shocked or in denial.
"Who's gonna win if Bane turned out to be Dr Wayne's son? Who's gonna lose? What will they lose? Who is Bane accountable to? If none, who planted the idea of him being Dr Wayne's son? Because from what I've read about him, he was born and raised in a prison with his mother - no mention of a father. His mother was an insurgent of Hasaragua, fighting against US-condoned democracy. And while there was a record of Dr Wayne being there, there was no exact date and length of stay, because he was there privately and not as a part of Médecin sans Frontieres or something like that.
"What about Mrs Wayne? She wasn't a poor or uneducated woman, since she was a Kane. Society-wise, do you think she would have tolerated her husband's indiscretion, both then and now? Yet she kept quiet for nearly two months. She has a Ph.D. in psychiatry, and would she be the ones to keep quiet about DNA testing and all that? Personally, I don't think so. If my mother - a little 'lesser' society lady compared to Martha Kane-Wayne - ever got a word of a child that 'probably' got fathered by my dad, she would have demanded a divorce right away without bothering with a paternity test, sure. But my dad, who was also a society man, would have at least attempted to convince her that it was a mistake and/or it was a lie. What best method to decide a child's paternity than DNA test?
"The criminal front in general - especially the costumed criminals - has been pretty quiet since Bane eliminated the Court of Owls. Why? That's rather stupid since we know that the Court's Talons were the ones who made moves to 'discourage' the costumed freaks. Annnd... that's where I couldn't map out things further." Tim rambled.
"Keep talking, even half sentences are better than none, Timmy." Barbara prompted. Tim might have had a brain that worked a mile a minute, but he was still very young and would often get flustered with himself. Barbara, on the other hand, has an eidetic memory, and things Tim said tend to stick to her brain and would fill the gaps in any puzzles she might be thinking about. Even half sentences.
"Right, I do the fact spreads, you do the jigsaw-puzzling." Tim nodded. "The murders of Talia and Ra's Al Ghul. Jason said they were deliberately murdered in a way that they would never be able to be resurrected through the Lazarus Pit. The perpetrators would be the League of Shadows, a rogue splinter of the League of Assassins. Lead by Lady Shiva. Why? Why were they murdered? Why now and not - say - next year or last year? Who benefited by their death? Aaand... I'm done, for now, I think..."
"I... can feel a headache brewing," Dinah admitted. "You and your conspiracy theories." she rubbed Tim's head fondly. Tim gave her a half-smile, still trying to articulate the thoughts in his head.
"That's why we need him, he takes the most random input and makes a theory out of it, and some of them would actually make sense. I'll start a search string based on some of your questions. If you have more, don't hesitate to tell me, Tim." Barbara realized belatedly that her tone sounded dismissive, and turned to Tim. "Want me to call up for Chinese and powwow a little more?" she added.
Tim shook his head, still glaring blankly. "Thanks, I gotta go... I've some... things to look into. Thanks, Babs," he replied, ending it with a genuine smile as he got up.
"Want to come home with me, Kitten?" Selina asked, worry for Tim apparent on her normally-blank face.
"No, thanks, Ma. I gotta go back to the mansion, just in case, right?" Tim pointed out.
"Then Dinah should go with you," Selina decided.
"She's coming there later, right, aunt Dinah?" Tim asked. Dinah nodded.
"I'll get home with food, so don't worry about that, kiddo." she said. Tim waved them all and then walked out.
Once he was out of the door, Selina sighed. "Ah, young love..."
"Right? Remind me to check in on him before going to the House. I don't want to walk in on something and have him traumatized." Dinah agreed.
Barbara glared at them quizzically, and then at Helena, who shrugged. "Grayson said it first, I think. Our kitten is growing up. I just hope that Jason guy is worth his firsts..."
The memory of Tim gawking at Jason when he thought Barbara wasn't watching flashed in her mind.
Oh.
And then of Jason blatantly checking Tim out just before Oracle made her appearance, and at times when her Oracle projection was turned off.
"Oh boy," she sighed.
"That's about it in a nutshell. Good thing I've told him of the birds and the birds..." Selina grinned slyly.
"Millennial parenting at best, Ms Selina Kyle." Dinah grinned. "Come on, let's go patrol and induce the fear of goddesses to Gotham's low-lives before inducing maternal fear to our little kitten."
"...or to the big tabby. We'll see," Selina added, waving as she and Dinah walked out of the room.
Suddenly Barbara felt a little sorry for Jason. Just a tiny, teensy, weensy bit of sorry.

under the moonlight ii (m) || junmyeon & reader
title: under the moonlight ii pairing: junmyeon/suho x reader genre: ceo!reader, hint of soulmate!au, a lil bit of smut but barely notes: enjoy! this is the final part (also second part) of under the moonlight! this is one of my favorites to write, although i did not feel like i did my best on the first part, i tried even harder on this portion.
will also proofread later, i just am content to be done !!! lmao part one || final
Junmyeon describes his first love as a city— the towering buildings that surround each other, the bustling of traffic, and the abundance of people that populate the sidewalk on an everyday basis. She’s a beauty who’s besieged by people— both friends and family, and a social butterfly without realizing. She kept herself busy as an architect, constantly producing new designs, revising old ones. He says she’s a dream chaser yet loved the simple things about life. It had been one of the things he admired most about her.
The words he said to her when he decided to let her go was along the lines of: Chanyeol had been the light in her city. Junmyeon considered himself the stars— under the moonlight in the luminous city, you don’t see the stars because the lights are blinding. The beauty of the stars doesn’t do justice in the city.
You think Junmyeon isn’t in the stars. You think he’s been the moonlight all along, the light you see even in the illuminated city. They just weren’t willing to take a chance on something that seemed impossible.
Your memory is hazy on how you got here, but you’re sitting on your desk, skirt hiked up to your stomach with Junmyeon’s head in between your legs. His skin under the moonlight glistens with beauty, and you can’t help but repeatedly tell yourself how lucky you are that you are soulmates with this man. Everything about Junmyeon makes you feel like you’re on cloud 9. Fingers intertwining with his soft brown locks and palm against the foggy glass table, your breath hitches in your throat as he sticks in another finger into your heat.
“Junmyeon!”
Pulling away, he grins innocently with his lips glistening with your juices, he makes you think how insane you look compared to him. How could he look so pure after doing the dirtiest thing to you in your office? Anyone who has ever rejected him in this lifetime must feel like he’s the one who got away. As if the sex in the bedroom isn’t enough, he’s bold enough to do it in the office.
Thankfully, Junmyeon isn’t too risky, just risky enough. It’s Friday and everyone on the floor has gone home early, now the time being 6:00pm, it’s just the two of you. It started off innocent— Junmyeon bringing you a cup of tea and some biscuits since you found yourself stuck here for another night with another launch for a new line coming out soon. He’d always been supportive, if not more now, after dating for half a year, and never failed to swoon you.
“You look stressed,” He said, rounding your desk with a mischievous look hanging on his lips.
“Junmyeon... no.”
“You haven’t even been home that often lately, let me help you unwind.”
And after a couple glares, he pouts and immediately has you under his spell.
“Fuck, Junmyeon, just take your goddamn fingers out of me and pull your dick out your pants so you can fuck me on my desk.”
“Weren’t you just shooting daggers at me with your eyes earlier telling me no?” He raises a brow teasing but complies with your instruction anyways, standing in front of you, unbuckling his belt and tugging his zipper down. Demands from you always deserved a comeback response but he never failed to abide by your needs.
“Well, we’re already in too deep anyways so let’s just go all the way.”
Pulling himself out his pants, his eyes are hooded as he presses his forehead against yours while you wrap your legs around his waist, dragging him closer. He looks heavenly like this; hair disheveled with his shirt unbuttoned all the way, exposing his well-built chest, and his tie disappeared somewhere in the room. You’re thankful he’s been heading to the gym with his friends lately because all you want to do is lick his abs, despite how weird you feel about it but Junmyeon doesn’t reject your wants and lets you do it anyway.
He’s pumping himself while his cloudy gaze meets yours, lips parted and swollen. Groaning, you grab him closer with your legs as he stumbles with a chuckle at your eagerness. “Take it easy, baby.”
“Junmyeon, I swear to god if you don’t finish what you started— oh fuck,” he’s tired of your complaining and plunges himself into you sharply, interrupting your nagging. Albeit the fact you’re always debating with him about things, he still loves you nonetheless and drools at the sight of you, especially right now with how your skin glimmers in sweat under the lights of your office.
Junmyeon’s face is nuzzled into your neck, gently biting and sucking on the skin while humming against you as his hips thrust in and out of you harshly. You’re trying to stay quiet, but the way his body moves against yours and how much he stretches you is overwhelming that you’re suddenly thankful Johnny agrees to take an early leave today or else you’d never hear the end of it.
Grabbing your legs from behind him, he unravels you from his body before pushing you down further on the desk, your legs up closer to your frame as he pounds harder. “Shit,” he mutters under his breath. “How are you still so tight? Stop clenching, I might cum too fast.”
“Isn’t that that the point?” You snarled, arms around his neck as you caress his nape. “I have work to get done tonight.”
Lifting your body from the desk with his hands under your thighs, he’s carrying you effortlessly to another part of the room, shoving you against the wall before quickening his pace. Unable to hold back your moans, your hands shift to his shoulder, grasping onto the broadness of it. “I also have work to get done tonight, and it’s to make you cum first.”
He made you release twice after that before letting himself reach his own high.
Outside of the bedroom—except it was in your office today— Junmyeon was a soft boyfriend. He was everything that you had wished Eunwoo was and you didn’t need to mold him to have those qualities, he already had them. You weren’t entirely sure if it was the biological effects of finding out that he’s your soulmate, but you’re glad it’s him.
Straightening your skirt after a sinful session, you look up and see Junmyeon already sprawled on your office chair, trying to catch his breath. “Why are you panting so hard? You said you’ve been working out lately and uh... it’s evident on your body.”
He raises a brow teasingly before letting out a chuckle between his breaths. “I see you’ve been checking me out lately. Just had a big lunch was all.”
“Big lunch?”
“Well you took that guy out from HR to lunch today, and I figured since I wasn’t going to eat with you, I should grab something for myself.”
“... you went alone?” You’re mimicking his expression now with your brows lifted in question.
“... well,” He’s running his fingers through his luscious damp locks from his sweat. “I went with Hana and Johnny.”
Squinting your eyes at your other half, you cross your arms against your chest as he watches you carefully. “What is it? Why are you looking at me like that?”
Shrugging your shoulders, you lean against the desk that he had just fucked you senseless on moments ago, only for you to regain the authority yet again. “Hana? As in, Lee Hana?”
“What about her?”
“She doesn’t like me.” You frown, shoulders drooping. Junmyeon lets out a light laugh, pushing the chair into your direction before sitting your legs in between his thighs. “So what? Johnny and I like you.”
“She complains about me to you guys. Plus, I think she has a tiny crush on you.” Although you and Junmyeon had been meeting frequently for lunch, it’d always be away from the office. Keeping the relationship a secret between his colleagues was an agreement set in place once you’d officially started dating him, but it was getting a bit difficult once you realized how many girls actually ogled at the sight of him.
Pressing his lips against the back of your hand, he then puts the palm of it to rest on his cheek. “I’m not quite catching on what you’re saying.”
“You don’t know that she likes you? Ugh, Junmyeon—“
“No, I meant that I know she does, and was very persistent about taking me to lunch, so I asked Johnny to join me. So what if she likes me? I have you.”
“She doesn’t know that,” You snarled, eyes darting at him. “She’s going to think you’re available.”
He shakes his head, gifting your palm a kiss. “She can think whatever she wants. I have you and you’re all I need.”
There’s silence in the room for a moment as you’re shuffling through your thoughts before shattering the glass of quietude. “Are you mad that we’re keeping this a secret?”
His eyes search the meaning behind the question in your orbs, observing your expression. “I’m not mad.”
“Disappointed?”
“No, I just... forget sometimes.” He admits, pecking the skin of your thigh gently before leaning back in the seat. “I want to give you a kiss before heading out the office some days and I get the urge but stop midway. Sometimes I want to see your face once you get the flowers I send you on other days and deliver them myself but I know I can’t. But there’s no need to be mad about it.”
A wash of regret cascades over your face as you frown at your significant other. Junmyeon was an embodiment of a gentleman; patiently waiting for you even though your schedule had always been packed, delivering food during those restless hours, cleaning your home so when you got back after days sleeping in the office, you had less responsibilities to tend to... he was actually perfect.
Maybe that was also his flaw. He was too perfect. Was it everyone or just you that seems to be drawn to men who women always sought after?
“What’s this?” Junmyeon asks, standing beside Johnny in your office with a hand in his slacks’ pocket. His other hand was occupied by his phone, holding up the email invitation to a company banquet. “Why am I suddenly invited to this?”
“And the better question is why am I invited to this?” Johnny adds.
“It’s a company banquet, hence the word company. Everyone in the company is invited, guys. What’s so hard to understand about that?”
Johnny drops his body on the leather couch, plopping his legs on the table as you grimace after the sight. “We’ve never had something like this before. Why suddenly now?”
“Remember that guy I had lunch with from HR last week?”
The two men glance at each other before responding at the same time. “Yeah?”
Leaning against the desk, crossing your arms over your chest, you continue. “He suggested we do something like this. Would be good for... company bonding or something.”
“Don’t we see each other enough?” Johnny snaps, Junmyeon chuckling at his response. “I think what he means is, are you sure that enough people would be of attendance?”
“Well, I invited the top investors to come, too. They’re copied on the email, so hopefully people will see and RSVP?”
Johnny is mute briefly before quietly asking, “Will that guy from that record company we talked about be there?”
Tapping your finger against your chin, you playfully look around your room, feigning in thought. “Possibly. If you attend, you’d know.” Johnny looks over at Junmyeon with a bright smile glued to his face before waving. “Well, I’m sold. You’re in it alone, brother. Deuces!” Peacing out, Johnny shuts the door behind him as Junmyeon sighs, shaking his head. “And now I’m alone.”
“What’s wrong, baby?”
“You really want to do a whole banquet?” He asks, locking his phone and sliding it back into his pocket. “You’re already so stressed out. Why would you want to arrange a large event like this around the same time span as the launch?”
He’s worried. Junmyeon isn’t mad about the event, he’s concerned about your workload and how you’d be able to juggle between taking care of yourself and dealing with the launch, including the event.
“Come on, you know I have to do something for the people here.”
“No, you don’t. At least, you can do it later, so why now?” You shrug, slouching in your position. “I don’t know. It just feels lately like nothing is enough.”
“Oh baby,” He frowns, making his way to you with his hands cupping your cheeks. “You’re enough. You’re more than enough for me. You’re an amazing boss, and John out there can vouch for that. You don’t need to overwork yourself just to prove something.”
“Doesn’t matter anyways. The invitation is out and already done.”
“Okay, so new problem requires a new solution. Hire a team, or better yet, ask the HR department to plan the banquet. I’m sure they’d be more than happy to do it, just give them a budget and I’m sure they won’t fail you.”
You freeze. The idea of delegating freaked you out a little. Or a lot.
“Junmyeon.” He reiterates the tone after yours, stating your name. “That’s... quite a lot I’m giving up here.”
“Yeah, you’re also giving up your health in the process. You’re still young— yes, and incredibly young at that— but keep in mind that you don’t have a successor in mind. If you’re not healthy, imagine who potentially could sit in your seat and manage the entire company. I can almost 100% guarantee to you that you would not be happy with who they may select.”
You groan frustratedly, standing straight before digging your face into his chest, muffling your own words. “It should be me doing all of this.”
He shakes his head. “You just think that it should be you.”
Trapped behind your desk, you’ve still managed to take a transient break from all your tasks. Tapping your fingers against the table, and swirled by your contemplations, remorse fills your face at the memory of Junmyeon the other day, speaking genuinely about how he felt as though he couldn’t truly express his love for you publicly. Suddenly, an idea comes to mind.
Quickly typing in a web address, you click on several items into your order before punching in your credit card info. Leaning back after the “order confirmation” pulls up, you grin in content.
“Flowers for Junmyeon?”
Junmyeon’s head peeks from his cubicle at the sound of his name, furrowing his brows in confusion. “Uh, I’m Junmyeon,” He says as he gets up from his seat, walking over to the delivery man. “You sure this is for me? And not from?” Did he make a mistake? He didn’t recall making any orders today.
“Says to Junmyeon and... from...” At the sound of your name escaping from the delivery man’s lips, Junmyeon’s eyes irradiates. “Wait— really?”
“Who is sending you flowers?” Hana approaches from behind, attempting to see over Junmyeon’s shoulder by standing on the tips of her toes. With the note in his hand, he swiftly slides it into his pocket, looking over at the female immaculately. “Uh, secret admirer.”
She rolls her eyes. “Oh come on, oppa. Let me see.”
He shakes his head in response. “I told you, it’s from a secret admirer.”
“Junmyeon! We’re friends here. Let me see!”
“It’s from me.” You stop in the midst of your tracks in the middle of the aisle of cubicles after the delivery man makes an exit. Adjusting the folders and binders in your arms, you hum. “I got Junmyeon the flowers.”
“Do you need help?” Junmyeon steers away from the topic, hands aiming to take some of the items in your hands. “No, I’m okay. Do you like the arrangement I picked out? And did you see the note?”
“Of course I saw the note,” He says, voice quiet. “But let’s talk about that later. We’re at work.”
“I don’t care. Doesn’t affect my work ethic nor yours, so why does it matter to anyone else?”
Hana’s mouth is agape during the conversation, bowing when you recognize her presence. “Hi, boss. Uh, you sent Junmyeon the flowers?”
“Yes, I’m asking him out to the company banquet.”
“Like... as a date?”
You nod at her direction. “As a date.”
“Oh... I was going to ask Junmyeon. Maybe he can decide which of us he wants to take?” She suggests, shoulders shrugging. “No offense, but isn’t it kind of weird if an employee goes with their boss? Don’t know if Junmyeon is uncomfortable...” Her eyes trail at the end of the sentence to read the expression on his face, only to see him with his gaze holding onto yours.
“He’s not uncomfortable, are you, Junmyeon? You can tell me honestly. If not, HR is always down the hall.”
Junmyeon sighs, taking some of the binders from you, regardless of your refusal. “Of course not.” He glances over at Hana with an apologetic look before giving her a half bow. “I’m sorry, Hana. I’m going to excuse myself.”
“Consider who you’re taking, will you?”
Pausing for a moment in silence before taking a glimpse at you, he chews on his bottom lip anxiously. “I’m taking her, I’m sorry. It’s a no brainer for me— always.”
She scoffs. “Is it because she’s the CEO? You’re not feeling pressured, are you? Because if this is a bigger issue than it seems, we should go to HR. She shouldn’t be treating you like this, it isn’t fair—“
“We’re dating.” He finally admits, the red flushing his cheeks. “We’ve been dating a couple months now.”
“You’re fucking dating. What did she threaten you with?”
“Why do you think I have to threaten him in order for him to like me?” You question, genuinely curious. She seemed to have been very persistent with her stance.
She looks at you with a stare that reads ‘is it not obvious’ but you’re honestly uncertain what she’s going to say next. “You’re here hours of the night. You rarely ever go home, reject that guy who keeps coming to ask you out for lunch— don’t think we don’t know— and he finally gave up on you and now you’ve come running to someone else? Don’t you think you seem a little desperate?”
“Desperate for what? I liked her first.”
“But did she ask you out first?”
“Yeah, but—“
“Don’t you feel tricked, Jun oppa?” The nickname she gives him brings heat to your ears but you hold your composure. “Does she even make time for you? Does she even care for you? I mean— you’re even keeping this a secret from everyone, especially your friends.”
You feel so small. Ever since becoming CEO of your own company, you’ve had moments where people talked down on you but never an employee. You’d always tried to establish a good relationship between them and yourself, gaining some level of respect, but for the first time, someone confronted you in this type of manner and you’re unsure how to approach the situation.
“Stop, Hana.” Junmyeon says, interrupting her rant of questions. “My work friends don’t know. My personal life friends? All of them know, she has met them all. I don’t mind that she works so late and so frequently, it doesn’t bother me, but I do worry that it’ll deteriorate her health. Hana, you’re a nice friend and a great person. I know you are, but you speaking about her this way makes me second guess that.”
Fuming, she snags the bouquet of flowers you’ve sent him and slams it into the ground. “How dare you talk to me like that?”
“Hana, please go and cool down. I don’t want you to do anything you’ll regret.” You advise, trying to grab back your possessions from Junmyeon. “I have a meeting to head to. I’ll catch you later.”
“Why’d you have to send it during office hours?”
You’re brewing tea in your small, cozy apartment downtown in Seoul, just enough space for yourself. Although a penthouse fit your budget, you knew the home would be too quiet and lonely for you.
“You mentioned how sometimes you forget we’re hiding it from people. I just wanted to do something nice for you. You’re always getting me things and taking care of me.”
Watching you from the couch, he ruffles his end of day hair with remains of gel in it. The top few buttons of his shirt are unbuttoned and his belt is already off, legs laying on the foot rest. “Baby, you already do so much for me. You’re you, keeping me company and making me happy. And didn’t I already tell you that it’s okay we’re hiding it?”
“Okay, but why does it feel like that’s it? That’s all I have to offer you and I’m even making you keep this a secret.”
“I have a job because of you. I’m happy because of you.”
“But that’s not me— that’s my title, Junmyeon. The CEO me gave you a job, not the personal life me. How am I contributing anything to you? Hana makes a point, you know. I should be threatening you with something to date me, or else it wouldn’t make any sense because I have nothing to offer you.”
“Baby...” His voice is softer now albeit his steps are getting closer to you, wrapping his arms around your frame from behind. “You’re enough. Stop thinking you aren’t. You’re such a confident woman, yet at the same time you want to make everyone happy but it’s exhausting you out.”
“Making people happy makes me happy.”
“Be happy that you’re happy.”
“I— I am happy with myself. I achieved my dreams, I even met my soulmate.”
“Then what’s wrong?” His forehead crinkles in confusion.
“I just... want to be enough for you. Money and materialistic items aren’t things that impress you. You were so in love with a girl who had already met her soulmate and let her go when you weren’t ready. I’m afraid I can’t get you to love me up to that par. Everything we have is biological.”
Though your tone is serious, he manages to let out a chuckle. “Is that what you’re worried about? I was in love with you way before knowing any of that stuff. Chanyeol used to have dreams about her yet he still didn’t love her until later. He took his time, but eventually loved her for her. This whole soulmate thing is unpredictable and you know that. You were in that research thing.”
“Research group,” You correct, turning off the gas knob when the kettle sings.
“Research group,” he clarified, bringing your body to face him. “You are my soulmate, period. But before knowing that, you were my boss who I had a major crush on. I stayed those nights in your office and had dinners with you on that annoying wobbly coffee table— which I want to point out, you have enough money to replace— and you still think that way? You let me experience my dreams without even knowing my capabilities, you believed in me when I didn’t. You’ve given me constructive criticism, disagreed with me, and yet still stayed through those heated arguments. Our love languages are different. I’m truly happy what you’ve given me.”
“Are you sure?”
“More than anything.” He bumps his forehead into yours before leaning in to peck the tip of your nose. “Please trust me.”
Junmyeon has on a black suit that matches the material of your midnight dark off-the-shoulder dress that lengths down pass your legs. He’s the resemblance of Prince Charming— an asian doppelganger, to say the least. Hair recently dyed brown and slicked back with a new cut, he has a way of effortlessly handsome in the most simplistic way.
“Hey, love.” He has a grin wider than the Cheshire Cat, but is the opposite of the character— heart warm for everyone and tugging on their heartstrings just from his smile. Junmyeon has a way of looking at you as if you’re the heroine to his story when in reality, he’s the one who has saved you.
“Hey,” You say airily; the sight of him dressed so formally has the breath taken out of your lungs. “You look good.”
“Thank you, you look even better.” Arms wide with invitation, you comply and shuffle close to him. “When did you get this lovely dress? I’ve never seen you wear it before.”
“You act like we go to black tie events on a daily basis.”
Pulling you close in his embrace, he puckers his lips. Abiding by his request, you gift him a quick peck. “We don’t, but I wish you wore this for me. You look... ravishing.”
“Ravishing?”
“Yes, that’s what I said. Ravishing. You look great, baby. Come, let’s head out.”
“I—“ Hand wrapped around Junmyeon’s wrist after he turns to exit, he flips back with a curious gaze. “What’s wrong, bubby?”
“What if Hana told everyone by now? I haven’t exactly been in the office for a few days with all the meetings that have been going on... what will they think of me?”
“Of you dating? Nothing, you’re a grown woman. You can date.”
You look at him sternly. “No, I meant of me dating an employee. They’re going to think I’m trying to exploit you or something.”
He sighs, hands on your cheeks as he pushes them together to purse your lips. “I don’t really know what’s going to happen. I have some privilege as a man because no one is going to say anything to me, but I know they’ll make some sly comments at you about it. Regardless, know that those people don’t matter. You’re a successful woman who is respectful and kind toward everyone, and her being bitter shouldn’t effect us.”
You’re internally freaking out. The moment you step into the venue, you’re too scared to even fully absorb and admire the work that the HR department made, watching the gazes of those around you. Despite the fact that the man linking arms with yours was the most beautiful person anyone has ever seen, the eyes of those in the room lock onto your figure. It was hard to tell the difference between their judging stares or if it’s because of your position in the company.
Right on cue, Junmyeon leans over and whispers in your ear. “They’re looking at you because of how beautiful you are.”
Johnny is practically prancing on his route toward you, smile stretching from cheek to cheek as he pulls you into his embrace. He sings your name before separating himself from the hug, pinching the tip of your nose. “Shit, you’re gorgeous. Junmyeon is lucky to be by your side or else I would have snagged you by now.” He teases, but you’re rolling your eyes in response.
“I’m still standing here, you know,” Junmyeon eyes the younger male.
“Aw, hyung, are you jealous?”
“Tsk, John Suh—“
“Hyung!” Another voice chimes in, the three of your heads swerving to the sound to meet with the group of people walking in your direction as you turn your gaze to meet with Junmyeon’s. “I forgot to mention, I invited your friends.”
You notice that Junmyeon’s body stiffens. His heart stopped at the sight, but his hand reaches for yours, tightening the grip.
His first love.
Chanyeol has his hand resting on her lower back as she makes her way through the crowd amongst the rest of Junmyeon’s friend crew. Her beautiful silk dress hangs on her body loosely, tightening and complimenting her curves when needed most. Her captivating looks had your own heart clenching and you realize what you had been up against the entire time.
The stories Junmyeon shares about his first love now has a face to the name, and the acceptance of their moments has disappeared just from looking at her. She was breathtaking to that point that she’s stolen Johnny’s attention as well.
Quickly, Junmyeon melts from being frozen and greet his friends, and you follow in suit. You learn her name, and hearing her repeat yours reminds you that her voice does sound smooth and sweet like honey, and you can’t even hate her because of how kind she is.
“I heard that you guys found out that you’re soulmates,” She says with a smile, and you could kill for cheekbones like hers.
“We are,” He responds, tugging on your hand to bring you closer. “We liked each other first then realized that we both have the same markings.”
“Convenient,” She chuckles, turning to glance at Chanyeol who stands by her side. Despite all the denying Chanyeol had went through before, it wasn’t evident now because his eyes were filled with love when they meet with hers. “A lot easier than what I went through with this guy.” She fixated her stare back at Junmyeon, voice filled with genuine as she speaks. “I’m happy you found someone who can make you happy.”
Later on, she meets with you privately as the rest of the gang follows Junmyeon around and they share loud conversations and laughs with each other.
“Hey,” She says, voice soft and gentle. “I just... wanted to thank you.”
“For what?” Perplexity is written on your face as you casually grab two champagne glasses from a server walking by, handing one to her as she takes willingly.
“For... loving Junmyeon. I... loved him before and I couldn’t fully give him what he wanted because of Chanyeol.”
Waving your hand in dismissal, you shake your head in unison. “No, thank you. If... you stayed even though Junmyeon wanted to let you go, I don’t think I would have ever met him. I would’ve never met my own soulmate, and... I don’t think I’d be as happy as I am now.” Almost on sign, Junmyeon’s in mid-laugh across the room, chatting with his friends as his tender gaze meets yours.
“Well, he’s just as happy, if not more. So, thank you, really. He deserves the world for letting go of someone he loved just for the sake of his best friend’s happiness. He’s a selfless guy.”
The night is long; you’re constantly talking to investors and potential investors, meeting new and old people as well as trying to keep up with all of your employees that attended. The turn-out is better than expected (well, better than Johnny expected), and you congratulate the HR team on a job well done.
“Ah, thanks, boss... it means a lot to us that you’re saying this.” You scoff, drink in hand before reaching up to pinch the cheek of the younger male.
“Call me noona. You did a great job, Mark, it deserves to be recognized. Keep it up and you’ll see a promotion headed your way.” Mark’s face flushes pink at your actions and words, bowing in appreciation. “Thank you, Noona!”
“Can I snag your noona away from you?”
“Oh— Hey Hyung! Of course. She’s all yours.” Mark smiles giddily, and you’re unsure if the last sentence is in reference to your relationship, or that he was willing to give your attention back to Junmyeon’s.
“Hey, you tired?” His face is always full of concern when he watches you, but you feel like a princess when he surveils your face for a response with all the attentiveness. You shake your head in response. “No, I’m okay. It’s nice knowing that nobody is giving me a hard time.”
“Speaking of that...” Your furrow your brows in confusion. “I talked to Hana just now.”
“Oh?”
“She’s... unhappy, for sure. But more angry that I didn’t even give her a shot. I’ve known her before you and I guess she had been pursuing me since then but I’ve always had my eyes on you.”
Chewing on your bottom lip anxiously, you tap your feet on the ground. “So... now what?”
“Nothing.” He chuckles, hand resting on your lower back as he pulls you near. “Don’t care about what she says. She’s an employee first, an angry girl who has a crush on your boyfriend second. All you should care about is yourself, and how much I love you for being you.”
Everything he says before the phrase falls out the other ear. “You love me?”
“I love you.” Junmyeon grins cheekily, his other hand reaching to rest on your cheek before pulling you into a kiss. “I really do. Please remember that. Everything I experienced before you was so that I could appreciate everything about you when I meet you. I’m glad you got to meet her today, because just as great as she is, she is no comparison to you. You’re more than that, and the crazy part? You’re my soulmate.”

All the Transwomen I Met
I've felt the need to write this and share it, for a few years.
About 5 years ago, I moved to San Francisco. I didn't know anyone in the entire state, so I spent a lot of time and effort meeting new people, and going to social events, and accepting invitations from most everybody who invited me to anything. I met a ton of people.
When I moved out there, I didn't really know anything at all about transgender people. I was told about that idea pretty quick once I got there. I thought it was really great that people were comfortable being themselves. The idea that men who enjoyed wearing stereotypically "women's" clothes, were becoming more comfortable doing that. And the idea that men were rejecting stereotypes of men that were forced onto them from childhood, so they could be themselves without shame. And the reverse... women rejecting uncomfortable stereotypes of women so they could be happy. It was an exciting idea that if more and more people started doing this, it would become more and more obvious that none of the stereotypes about what women are like and men are like are actually real. Sexism would be almost completely done away with!
I wish that was what happened. I was really excited to see it happen.
But that isn't what happened. Something bad happened.
In San Francisco, there were a LOT of transwomen. And so while I was meeting all of those people, and doing all that socializing, I ended up meeting and becoming acquaintances with a lot of transwomen. I have written a brief description of literally every single transwoman who I became friends with or got to know at all. I left none out. There are nine. I have felt like this was very important for me to share.
The first transwoman (man who likes to be called a woman) I knew, rubbed his penis on me when he thought I was sleeping. This was shortly after I told him I didn't return his romantic feelings for me, which I had told him many times already.
That same man had previously told me that he'd spent most of his young adult life pressuring girls to have sex with him.
The second transwoman I knew, became enraged when I casually commented on sexism in commercials. I thought what I said would be met with obvious agreement. I hadn't known many transwomen yet, and I thought that they would understand sexism and feminism a little more than men on average do. I learned that I was very wrong. I'd commented on how a string of commercials we watched featured men speaking with intelligence, confidence, and authority, and they featured women speaking in forced baby voices, sounding insecure, dumb, giggly, and weak.
This man advanced on me physically to where I was sitting, with another angry transwoman, very loud and mad, and was very upset with my comment. He said women like talking like that, and also their vocal cords physically are only able to talk like that. Then he said my comment could be compared to women who really want to wear high heels to work, but people don't let them. Which is obviously ridiculous, because that is exactly the opposite of reality... women are being forced by their workplaces to wear high heels, which most women hate and which injure feet. That is still a sexist reality in many places that women are fighting to end. He was somehow saying I was like the fantasy people who don't let these fantasy women wear high heels to work, because of my comment.
This same man told me that he was really respected in China, which is where he was born, because he's a woman and in China women are dominant and considered superior to men. That is true, isn't it. Yes, very accurate. Not at all incorrect or literally opposite of reality.
The third transwoman I knew got upset with me at Halloween season, when I commented that women should be offered normal costumes just like men are, rather than only "sexy" versions of costumes in most places. There should be the same options for girls and boys, and women and men. He immediately disagreed and would only repeat that "Women like wearing sexy costumes!" I repeated that girls and boys should both be offered normal costumes, and obviously if anyone, man or woman, wanted to wear a "sexy" version of a costume they should wear whatever they want. He still disagreed. He said that "women have very little opportunity to dress femininely and sexy, and Halloween is a chance they can do it." I explained that was the opposite of reality. Women have tons of times when they are allowed, encouraged, and pushed to dress femininely and "sexy". That includes work, after work, weekends, and... all other times I would say. I'm pretty sure he was thinking of men, for whom his comment would have been accurate.
That same man got very angry when I said women were made to feel they have to wear makeup, and that is bad. He became very angry. Not just a little. Very angry. He kept saying (angrily) "Women like wearing makeup!"
That same man told me he was a pedophile, and had to keep himself away from children.
That same man told me that "sexism is good for some women".
That same man supported Gamergate. That same man told me that the separation of women's and men's sports are not at all related to people's biological sex, and that men who want to be called women should compete in women's sports.
That same man told me that sexism doesn't exist at all in America, and people are treated exactly the same their whole lives whether they're female or male. (I know, it contradicts his other statement that "sexism is good for some women"). I said that I had a lifetime of many many instances where I experienced sexism. From when I was very little until the present. He mockingly told me to name just one. I was so horrified that he honestly thought I would be unable to think of a single experience of sexism, and that he was mocking me about it, that I told him that it would demean me to answer to his demand of one example. It would obviously be lowering myself too far.
That same man told me that sexism in countries outside America don't have any effect on me.
The fourth transwoman I knew, I saw a movie with. It was good, but I noticed some very obvious sexism in the portrayal of female characters and male characters, which I later learned most everybody noticed. And while most everybody including me agreed it was a great movie, the extreme sexism was obvious. After the movie I said so, how I loved it - but it was very sexist in these examples. And this man started insulting me and being very annoyed. He said venomously that the portrayals of female and male characters was "realistic", and then just as venomously asked me "What are you, a FEMinist?" Clearly he felt the only acceptable view of feminists is to hate them. Somehow he expected me to want to insist to him that I wasn't a feminist. Obviously I loudly said "Yeah. I am a feminist. Aren't you a feminist?"
I never saw him again. We had been casual friends for a few months, but apparently that interaction made us both lose the desire to try and meet up again.
That same man, weeks previously at a fast food joint, told me ever since he started taking estrogen that he's become extremely physically weak. He was grinning while describing to me how wonderfully weak he was, and clearly that was an idea that made him very happy. A personal fantasy. He said how now his arms are so weak, he can barely throw a frisbee! I asked him to arm wrestle and he beat me with no effort in one second. I'd assumed that would happen.
The fifth transwoman I knew, was a very nice person. He was kind, and fun, and not a misogynist, and didn't get angry if anyone criticized anything sexist. He also didn't mind going into men's public bathrooms. I really liked him. We were friends.
The sixth transwoman I knew was over six feet tall, and had a fantasy that men would rape him. He would only ever dress in cartoonishly sexual stripper-style outfits. He described multiple times to me how he was worried that men would rape him when he walked around in public. In a voice and level of description that made it obvious this was his personal sexual fantasy. He suggested that he and I are both equally in danger from sexual assault. I'm 5'1 and just trying to live my life. He was over 6 feet and that was his sexual fantasy. We were very different in our experiences of the threat of sexual assault.
The seventh transwoman I knew, I went to the movies with and he put his hand in my crotch area. I said "WHOA I am not comfortable with that." And I physically took his arm and returned it to his own seat. He immediately put his arm around my neck and shoulders and said in an annoyed whiny voice "Well can I at least do this?" And I had to say no again. We barely knew each other, and were not at all romantic. I had zero romantic thought of him. He clearly didn't care or consider if I did or not. It didn't affect his feelings that he should be allowed to do things like that for his pleasure.
The eighth transwoman I knew was over six feet tall and white. He came up to me suddenly and told me that he is twice as oppressed as me, because he has sexism, as a woman, like I do, and he also has "transmisogyny". I was so shocked that he would say he experiences sexism like women that I was speechless. Obviously he was a man and so he did not. He was also gigantic. I don't really know why he wanted to come up to me and tell me that he had "twice as much oppression as me". After he said it he just kind of looked at me waiting to see what I would say. That was the first instance I learned about the "oppression olympics". I had never used the word "oppression" before and very rarely heard it used in person. But I was disgusted by his competitive declaration of victimhood. Since then, of course the word "oppression" has become extremely popularly used in conversation, and that's usually a good thing, but there is definitely this unsavory world of people like him who build their identities around having the "most" oppression, like an impressive commodity, who have no basis in reality.
That same man, after my lack of response, then told me that he also doesn't have white privilege because he grew up poor.
That same man told me that he'd spent much of his life pressuring women to have sex with him.
The ninth transwoman I knew, told me he would only ever date women who shave their bodies. I know that men have no idea the level of pain and insecurity that teenage girls go through because of the forced shaving culture, so I gave him a break and replied with a kind of friendly comment that even though shaving their bodies for women is an extremely torturous social norm, everyone has preferences about their romantic partners and that's fine. Though I felt like that particular preference is specifically a preference for women suffering an unhealthy lifelong ritual born completely out of insecurity. I figured I'd just write this guy off, and there was no point in saying so. But I couldn't help poking the misogynist bear a little. He was trying to get me to hang out with him. So I asked if he just won't have a relationship with a woman who doesn't shave her body, or if he can't even stand to see them at all in any setting. Because it was summer and I love going to the beach in shorts, and I needed to know if I shouldn't invite him to to beach. I actually thought I was being funny and that he would know that, but he answered seriously that he "would feel grossed out if he looked at me." Imagine one person feeling comfortable telling someone that they would feel grossed out to look at you. That man sure felt comfortable saying it to me.
I have also known some transmen. They are usually very kind, thoughtful people. I have known some very closely for years before they decided to be transmen. Most of them, years after that decision, still fight internally against the feeling that they have to wear makeup every day or else be ugly and worthless. Most of them still mentally fight to nurture any sense of self-confidence to speak their opinions, or take up space in a group as a full person, who deserves as much free immediate respect as any other.
Those are things that women experience.
Almost all transwomen are now saying that they are not men breaking social expectations. They are women. And women are sexist stereotypes.
Men breaking social expectations would deserve respect and props for being themselves despite social pressure. That would be a cool move. But they are instead insulting women, supporting sexist stereotypes religiously, closing down women's shelters, women's rape trauma centers, and women's festivals. They are taking women's government positions, women's scholarships, and women's awards.
**CONTENT WARNING for below **
Transwomen have made it so now any and all men are allowed to go into women's bathrooms, women's changing rooms, and women's shelters. And MANY of them have been raping and murdering children and women. They've been kidnapping, videotaping, and sexually harassing women and children.
There are many myths that transgender activists send around social networking sites. There's one that is very popularly shared that says transwomen in America are in danger of being murdered. That is a lie. White transwomen in America are less likely to be murdered than white men who don't identify as a transwomen.
Even if they were in danger, that would be a separate issue from women completely, and they would deserve their own safe places to be and escape violence. They should not take away all resources to help women, and allow all men into women's changing rooms and bathrooms and prisons.
I'm pretty sure most people know that women are not allowed to talk about this. We are not allowed to speak our discomfort. If a woman says she is uncomfortable with any of that, transwomen (men) bombard her with rape threats, very descriptive rape threats involving their own penises. They also do this to any lesbian who says lesbians don't want to have sex with penises. Any woman who is a feminist. Any woman who wouldn't even call herself a feminist because that word takes a lot of courage to use, but who still speaks of helping women and ending sexist beliefs, or describes reality without pandering to make these men feel good.
I used to think the transgender social movement would bring us all leaps and bounds into a brighter future, but I really think it has dragged us all back far in time and rolled back women's rights and safety and respect many decades into the past. I used to think all those violent women-hating transwomen were just the rare bad apple, and most are good people who don't want to hurt women. But that list of transwomen that I described is every single one I've known in person. 8 out of 9 were extreme examples of the most misogynist of men. My experiences have made me wary now, and I can barely even picture in my imagination a transwoman saying the words "It's impossible to feel like a woman", or "Women deserve to be allowed to get together and talk about women's issues".
The misogynist slur TERF means: Dyke. Feminazi. Cunt. They all know this.
It pains me to see women being caught up in this social movement, clearly just trying to be polite and "politically correct", or seeking male approval. Most of them are insecure. I understand. But I wish they would speak up and be honest about the truth, and not just do whatever these men tell them they must do and say to avoid being called a TERF.

Mahabharata (any characters or pairing) + college au + meet messy + “alexa, play wonderwall.” (at this point im just picking things at random lol)
play wonderwall : you’ll see lol basically used this as an excuse to write a version of the scene u and i both acknowledge as our favorite. the single most iconic scene in the entire epic, bar none. for our sake, i really hope that you like it!! also the “meet messy” is basically random people in the crowd meeting this trainwreck of a family in all of its glory. also i think rhea’s modern au krishna goes by shyam yadav??? i tried to use a different first name at least but none of them sounded as nice so i gave up lol sorry rhea.

“Are you fucking kidding me?”
It seems like the entire university is gathered on the front lawn to watch the swearing-in ceremony of new Union President Dharamraj Kuru after what many reported to be the nastiest student election season perhaps ever seen. Jarasandha Magadh, after years of refusing to graduate, had at the last minute been put in the hospital and, apparently, sustained injuries so extensive that it had effectively argued that his already completed coursework should be all that was counted when factoring in his final mark.
“Especially given said student’s...extensive history...with this institution,” Shyam had apparently said when arguing Jarasandha’s case to University Administration, Jarasandha himself completely unaware and apparently furious when he was brought out of his medically induced coma.
Jarasandha’s party’s hastily promoted candidate Sahadeva was wildly acknowledged to be weak, young, and meant to be nothing more than a rubber stamp on business as usual. Dharamraj, whose upstart campaign effectively communicated how poorly “business as usual” had treated the student body, was suddenly flooded with factions of students seeking an alliance so that their respective organizations might be allocated larger portions of the budget everyone assumed Dharamraj would soon control.
Everyone was right. Dharamraj won in a landslide, and now here everybody is, watching him deliver his maiden speech as their new President.
“Shisupal,” Dharamraj sighs, “what exactly is your problem?”
“My problem,” Shisupal shrieks, walking up to the dais from where Dharamraj stands, surrounded by his friends, family, and his girlfriend Yagna. “You’re asking me what my problem is, Brother?”
“Brother?” someone in the crowd asks, too low to be heard at the front.
“I think they’re related on their mother’s side,” someone else responds. “Both their mothers are sisters, but Pritha was adopted out to a friend of her father so was never close to her biological siblings.”
“Jesus,” another laughs, “are they all just cousins?”
A wide assortment of Kurus stand on stage, jubilant after so many years of them trying and failing to win elections at the university their fathers had once ruled. Yagna, from a prominent family herself, at Dharamraj’s side. Shyam Yadav, whose sister Subhadra is in love with Dhananjaya and whose father was like a brother to Pritha when she was lonely in Kuntibhoj and Vasudev not imprisoned with his wife.
Yes, they really are all just cousins.
Vrikodara steps in front of Dharamraj, arms crossed and looming nearly half a metre taller than Shishupal. Yet, Shishupal is not cowed -- though many men more intelligent than he would have been.
“I’m not afraid of you, asshole. Everyone knows you’re just the gun in Dharamraj’s hand, and your brother is a pacifist. You won’t touch me.”
“You would be surprised,” Dharamraj says mildly, smiling slightly as the crowd laughs at the thought of violence from the slightly frail Dharma, always seen in the library or sitting under the tree outside it, smoking cigarettes as he argues with professors twice his age about obscure legalities and wins.
“You wouldn’t hurt a fly,” Shishupal spits, “you’re too much of a coward to hit a person when they know it’s coming. That’s why you’re just stabbing us in the back, selling us out on the first day when we put our reputations on the line to back you for President.”
“Shisupal!” Vrikodara roars, Dhananjaya striding to stand next to him, Suyodhana and Radheya on either flank despite what is rumored to be their own tensions with Pandu’s sons. The family is closing ranks at this attack from one their own, it seems, but then what is University politics if not a way for people to find some entertainment from other people’s drama.
“What,” Shishupal retorts, “you expect us all to shut up while you commit to sinking half of the budget into that wastrel’s pathetic fund? You plan on just giving our money away to anyone who spins a sad life story and begs for cash?”
Well, University politics is about this too -- the eternal question of which students should be helped, and how much. The fund in question is the brainchild of Shyam, a way for individuals to apply for rapid monetary relief in response to uncontrollable circumstances, and be granted what they need with almost no questions asked.
“Shisupal,” Dhananjaya steps forward, sensitive as always when his best (and only) friend’s name is brought up. “We’ve let you get away with more than we should because you happen to be our mother’s nephew. If you continue to embarrass us in public it won’t end well.” Shishupal laughs. “For you or for me? As far as I can see, you’ve all been duped by that street-trash pretending to be Vasudev Yadav’s son.”
Dhananjaya glares. “Uncle Vasudev is more our mother’s brother than your mother is her sister. Slander his name at your own risk.” Again, Shishupal refuses to cower despite what the crowd acknowledges as fierce odds -- Dhananjaya doesn’t actually attend the University, only visits frequently from the Indian Air Force Academy to spend time with Shyam, and his brothers sometimes as well. The man is licensed to shoot a gun, for god’s sake, but Shishupal continues to stand firm.
“Even now, you’re all standing in front of him,” Shishupal taunts, “Dancing to his tune and protecting his reputation when you know as well as I where he came from. He didn’t even speak English until he left that shithole after killing his own uncle, and you idiots are planning to sink my money into his scheme? Not on my watch.”
“No,” a voice comes from the back of the group on the dais, “there’s no need to make that face. I can fight my own battles, Dhananjaya. Especially against an absolute clown, like Shishupal.”
“A clown,” Shishupal shouts, “you’re calling me a clown?”
Shyam rolls his eyes, having pushed his way to the front. Behind him Vrikodara is grinding his teeth, Dhananjaya’s fingers hovering at his own waist as if wishing for a gun.
“Well I could have called you a motherfucker,” Shyam shrugs, “but I’m quite fond of your mother. In fact, she was the one who’s begged me to forgive you every time you’ve done something like this.”
Shishupal snarls. “My mother doesn’t beg, street-trash, and she certainly wouldn’t lower herself to beg from you. People like you are only demanded from.”
Shyam shrugs again. “Suit yourself. But consider this your last warning -- say another word, and I won’t let you go like I did before.”
“Before? Before?” For some reason, Shyam’s threat has only made Shishupal angrier, face turning purple where it was red. “Before, as in that time last year, when you stole my wife from the wedding hall at gunpoint. Is that what you mean by before?”
The crowd goes still at the reminder of the biggest controversy to rock their collective social circle.
Shyam raises an eyebrow. “The whole point of that was that she wasn’t your wife when we left.” His lip curls in a sneer of his own, eyes suddenly cold. “You were treating her so poorly that she asked what to her was a complete stranger to kidnap her on her wedding day. I wouldn’t talk so loudly about before.”
Nearly a year ago, Shishupal was to be married to Rukmini Bhoja after years of forcing her to stand attendance at his side during all campus events, despite her not actually being enrolled as a student. Both of their families were rich, well connected, and sought increased prestige through connection with the other. It was, people remarked, on paper the perfect match.
Of course, Rukmini was intelligent, witty, kind, and one of the most beautiful women most people had ever seen. Shishupal passed classes off of sheer intimidation, threw rocks at the college cats, and supplemented these qualities with his insistence on growing a patchy, horrible, beard and kept his oily, stringy hair long. Worse, there were rumors that Shishupal was even meaner drunk than he was sober, and that once Rukmini had been seen walking away from him clutching her arm and had returned with a scarf wrapped around her shoulders to cover where otherwise might have been a visible pattern of bruises.
The wedding, everyone had agreed, was to be a tragedy, and would only serve to make Shishupal even more insufferable. When the nightly news had aired the extraordinary report of a young woman staging her own kidnapping, apparently begging one of the groom’s family connections to attend her wedding and hold a gun to her head as they walked out, it was widely agreed to be answer to their prayers, and above all a job very well done by the erstwhile bride to be. When it was revealed that the “kidnapper” was Shyam, well, that just made the whole thing even funnier.
When classes restarted, Shishupal prowled with a whole new look -- clean-shaven, and short hair. Rukmini Bhoja was noticeably absent from campus events, but a few months in Shyam had been seen getting off the bus at the station near campus and kissing someone who looked just like Rukmini goodbye.
It seems the rumors about that last bit had found Shishupal too. “Stranger,” he scoffs. “Is that what we’re calling it these days?”
Shyam’s entire body, always loose, always slightly in motion, goes completely stiff. More than Dhananjaya, more than Vrikodara, it is Shyam who now suddenly looks like an apex predator. The crowd, not even the one facing Shyam directly, finds itself taking a step back.
“What exactly is it that we’re calling,” Shyam asks softly -- sound only heard because it’s being picked up by the microphone on the podium awaiting the rest of Dharamraj’s long-forgotten speech.
Shishupal rolls his eyes, sneering. “I’m glad that bitch made such a spectacle of herself when calling off the wedding. I wouldn’t have wanted to marry a whore, you know. Why take seven rounds to get something she sells, no?” He smirks, as the entire group on the dais -- the whole horrible writhing mass of Kurus and their assorted friends and family -- advance as one. “Or, I guess she was the one who was buying,” Shishupal laughs, looking at Shyam who appears to be frozen in place, his face a perfect picture of overwhelming rage. “She paid you to take her, didn’t she? Poor bitch didn’t even think you’d fuck her for fr--”
“SHUT THE FUCK UP, YOU SON OF A BITCH!”
Shishupal’s eyes immediately roll up into his skull, as a result of Shyam Yadav’s fist colliding with Shishupal’s jaw. No one bothers to catch the body.
Silence reigns for entire minutes as everyone watches Shishupal, crumpled on the ground. Watches Shyam Yadav, standing over him wild-eyed, with his right hand still in a fist.
“Oh Alexa,” a gentle female voice calls out from the crowd. Everyone turns to stare, open-mouthed, at Rukmini Bhoja standing in the front row, absolutely grinning at this turn of events. She gazes back at them, turning towards Shyam again and laughs. “Alexa this is so sad. Play ‘Mmm Whatcha Say.”
#ok i will say that the idea of rukmini basically organizing her own kidnapping/hit job where she hires krishna to attend and kidnap her at g#thats chefs kiss to me#i cant believe i never thought of that before its t ha t funny#mahabharata#also the mm watcha say gag was too good to not include when he gets clocked the fuck out at the end sorry lol#also i decided to make vasudev only brother-like for kunti#so that subhadra/krishna arent arjuna's cousins lol#also she seems even in canon to be closer to vasudev than her other siblings so we're rolling with it#anyways i hope u like it!!!!#these are all being churned out like stream of consciousness and then i hit publish lol so i have no idea if theyre any good at all#but thank u for the opportunity to put a version of this down on paper#maya writes#avani008#also lol i used none of their traditional names because i thought it would be funnier to give them all long pretentious names that flowed ni#*nice

Chapter 7: Disbelief
"He's right, Emma…" Mary Margaret finally spoke, as the blonde turned to look at her best friend. But what she saw alarmed her. She had seen tell tale signs of this over the past few weeks since she and David had started their relationship amidst his divorce. She had seen a boldness and confidence in her best friend that had not been there before, but she had been reluctant to acknowledge it, since she had been hell bent on denying that David was good for her, let alone that their love might be real. Acknowledging that meant facing truths that Emma was not ready for
And seeing her best friend now look at her with watery eyes filled with more love than Emma had ever known was something she was also not ready for.
"It's true…" Mary Margaret said tearfully.
"She's right Mom...it's true and they have their memories back now!" Henry called, as he came out of the bathroom with David and ran up to her. He hugged her around the waist and she hugged him too.
"Henry...I know that you want it to be true, but it just can't be," Emma said.
"Why won't you believe? And why should I believe you when you lied to me?" Henry asked in frustration.
"Henry…" she started to say.
"It's real…" he said, as he opened the book to a page that showed Rumpelstiltskin and a young Baelfire.
"This is you, isn't it?" he asked. Neal smiled.
"Yeah…" he said, as he knelt beside him.
"Wow...you figured all this out on your own?" he asked in amazement. Henry shrugged.
"He is a very smart little boy," Mary Margaret said fondly.
"It got kind of obvious when I was the only kid growing and passing through grades, while all my friends stayed behind in the previous grade," he said.
"I'm sorry...that must have been hard," Neal replied.
"He's right," Mary Margaret interjected.
"I didn't realize it when I was cursed...but all my students, except Henry, have been in my class for twenty-eight years," she said in amazement.
"Do you hear yourself?" Emma snapped.
"This is insane!" she cried, as she looked at all of them.
"Emma…" David started to say.
"No...you're the last person I need to hear from! You dumped your wife to have an affair with my best friend!" Emma cried.
"That's not true!" Mary Margaret exclaimed.
"He is my husband...not Kathryn's," she said fiercely.
"She's right...I never stood at the altar with Kathryn, but I did stand at one with her, twice in fact," David replied. Emma scoffed.
"She's right...Regina panicked when David woke up and had marriage papers drawn up to keep them apart. I can confirm that and even removing all of the curse stuff, you know from your profession that faking marriage papers is not difficult," Gold reasoned. She sighed.
"You have to admit that even you were skeptical that night when Kathryn just showed up out of the blue, claiming to have no idea her husband had been in a coma for years," he added. That was definitely true and Regina being his emergency contact had never made any sense either.
"Emma...if you want scientific proof of all of this, why don't the three of you just do a DNA test?" Neal asked. They all looked at each other, wondering why none of them had really thought of that.
"That's...that's a really good idea," Mary Margaret agreed.
"Have you forgotten that Henry is with us and Regina has probably filed kidnapping charges against me? I don't think we have time to do a DNA test. We need to get back to Storybrooke," Emma said.
"I doubt she filed them with any law enforcement. She does not want that kind of attention on Storybrooke. Plus, if she did, she knows her adoption of him can come into question," Gold stated.
"What do you mean?" Neal asked.
"I mean that I arranged the adoption...and there were no home follow ups that are usually required with the adoption of a child from the system," Gold replied.
"Did you know he was my son?" Neal asked.
"No...that was all fate, I assure you," Gold replied.
"The system is overwhelmed...kids fall through the cracks all the time," Emma said.
"Yes...and Regina would want to keep it that way. An investigation from them would be bad for her, especially since the biological parents have resurfaced and one that didn't know about him," Gold reasoned.
"He's right...we have just as much leverage on her as she has on us. Maybe more," Mary Margaret agreed. David slipped his arms around her from behind and pulled her close.
"Then we use it. The town might still be cursed, but we're not. And she does not want everyone else to wake up," he said.
"She probably also doesn't want Henry's biological father stepping into the picture either. But I am," Neal said.
"Then you'll be returning to Storybrooke with us?" Gold asked.
"Not for you," Neal replied, as he looked down at his son.
"For him," he stated. That brought a smile to Mary Margaret's face.
"Don't I get a say in that?" Emma questioned.
"Of course you do...but I'm not abandoning him now that I know about him," Neal answered.
"No...just me, right?" she countered.
"I didn't want to!" he cried.
"Then why did you?" she demanded to know.
"Because August told me I had to!" he exclaimed. She pulled back.
"August...you know August?" she asked suspiciously.
"Not until he tracked me down, that night we were supposed to escape to Canada and told me everything," Neal revealed.
"Everything about what?" Emma asked. He rolled his eyes.
"The curse, Emma...the curse! He's from there too," Neal replied.
"Really? Who is he?" Henry asked.
"Uhh...he's Pinocchio," Neal answered. Emma snorted.
"Well, that explains the lying," she quipped.
"Wait...Pinocchio? That doesn't make any sense. How did he get here?" Snow asked. Neal looked at her and a bit uncomfortably.
"The same way Emma did," he answered.
"No...no, that's impossible, because the wardrobe only took one," Snow insisted and David closed his eyes, realizing it before she was willing to accept it.
"They lied to you...it took two," he said.
"I...I could have gone with her?" she croaked and then looked back at her husband.
"We both could have...if we had gone before I went into labor," she realized.
"Never trust a fairy," Gold said.
"I need a drink…" Emma commented, as she sighed.
"So Blue and Geppetto lied to us…" David realized, letting that sink in for a moment.
"So what now?" Henry asked, as they heard a noise at the door. David put his hand up to silence them all, as he crept to the door and put his ear to it. He could hear someone breathing, like they were anxious or out of breath, and opened the door. Jefferson stumbled and fell onto the floor, but David helped him up by picking him up by the shirt.
"I was hoping you'd show up," he growled, as he grabbed him by the collar.
"She made me do it!" Jefferson pleaded.
"So you just do whatever Regina tells you?" David growled, as Snow put her hand on his arm.
"David…" she soothed, as he deflated a little and lightly shoved Jefferson away.
"She told me that if I helped her that I could have my daughter back!" he claimed.
"You know that Regina will never give you what you want. She'll betray you every time. The only way to get your daughter back is for the curse to break," Gold said.
"Tell that to her!" Jefferson hissed, as he pointed at Emma.
"At this rate, the curse will never be broken!" he ranted.
"All the evidence is right in front of her and she won't open her eyes! She doesn't even believe her own son...or her parents," Jefferson added, glaring at her.
"Some Savior," he grumbled.
"Hey…I didn't ask for any of this crap!" she retorted.
"We know you didn't...we never wanted any of this," Snow said, as she grabbed the book and turned to a particular page.
"This…" she said, as she handed the book to the blonde.
"This was supposed to be our life," Snow said tearfully, as she showed her the nursery, which was full of toys and a crib, with a unicorn mobile. The same unicorn mobile in Gold's shop.
"This is insane…" Emma lamented.
"See...she's never going to believe!" Jefferson said.
"Hey!" David hollered.
"Back off...it's a lot and no matter what, even if she doesn't believe it, she's our daughter and you're not going to talk to her like that!" David snapped, surprising Emma.
"And you're lucky that I haven't punched your lights out for kidnapping my wife," he added.
"I told you why I did it! For my daughter! We both have kids we'd do anything for! Don't you think we can find common ground in that?" Jefferson asked.
"Oh so now you want to work with us?" David questioned.
"Do I have much choice? It's either you or the Queen...though I'm starting to question if you really are the lesser of two evils," Jefferson retorted. David snorted.
"Well, keep pondering if you must, but I say we get home to Storybrooke and deal with her head on," he said.
"No need," a voice said coolly, as they all turned to find Regina standing in the doorway.
"Uh oh…" Henry said.
"Uh oh is right, young man," Regina said sternly.
"Emma didn't know I was in the car," Henry told her.
"But when she found out...she didn't turn around and bring you back," Regina accused.
"Excuse me, but I was a little busy looking for Mary Margaret, whom you had kidnapped by your goon!" Emma accused her back.
"Hey…I'm not a goon," Jefferson interjected, but he was ignored, as the two women glared daggers at each other. Regina smirked and then looked at Snow and David.
"If you two think I made your lives hell before...you haven't seen anything yet," she warned, as she looked at Emma.
"If you break my curse, Miss Swan, there will be a war unlike anything you've ever seen," she threatened.
"Mom please…" Henry pleaded.
"You are in enough trouble," she snapped to him.
"He's my son...I have legal custody and there will be no more visitation. I've been nice up until now...but that's over," Regina said. Emma snorted.
"Really? That was nice? Bring it and maybe you don't have as much leverage as you think," Emma argued.
"What is that supposed to mean?" she asked.
"She means me," Neal interjected, as he stepped forward.
"And you are?" she asked. He smirked.
"Henry's biological father...who didn't know about him," Neal replied.
"Who just happens to also be my son," Gold added, enjoying the look of disbelief and the tell tale sign of fear on her face.
"You're joking…" she refuted.
"Oh not at all, dearie. It seems that your little ploy in abducting...Mary Margaret has blown up in your face, spectacularly so," Gold goaded.
"It forced my hand early and led me to my son. Imagine my surprise when it became known that he and Snow and Charming's daughter had a child. The child which you adopted," he said.
"You...you knew…" she accused.
"Oh no...that was fate stepping in and since my son had no idea that Henry existed, he intends to fight for his right to custody or at the very least, visitation," Gold said.
"You can't do this…" Regina hissed.
"Oh we can...so you might want to rethink your little war you intend to wage," he warned. She glared back at him.
"We'll see who wins this war. The curse isn't breaking...not if you want peace," she said.
"Don't worry...your curse is fine or whatever," Emma said, as she looked at David and Mary Margaret.
"It's not like I believe it anyway," she said. Those words crushed them and Henry, as she stormed out.
"Henry...let's go," Regina snapped, as she left.
"Well...that will be an uncomfortable ride back," Gold said, as he looked at his son.
"Uh...give me a few minutes to pack and you two can ride back with me," Neal offered and the couple nodded.
"What about him?" David asked.
"He can ride back with me and Miss Swan, assuming he's ready to pick the right side, because make no mistake, Hatter...you've instigated a war," Gold stated.
"You know I hate her...and if these two are really ready to fight to break this stupid curse, then I'm in too. On your side," Jefferson replied.
"We're going to do whatever it takes to get our daughter to believe and get her back," David assured, as he threaded his fingers with Snow's.
"I hope you mean that...because things may get very ugly," Gold warned ominously, as they prepared to return to Storybrooke.

"I'd Look A Little Closer To Home If I Were You!"
Thursday 25th March 2021
Part 1 & 2
Hello again everyone! I hope you're all doing well and had an enjoyable weekend! Thank you all for being super patient with me, I've been quite busy over the last few days and today has been the only time I've been able to catch up. This post is going to covering the two episodes which aired on Thursday evening. But before we dive in, there is some small news I'm going to share with you all which I'm sure you've all been made aware of by now. It's been announced that star of television and stage, Sue Holderness will be joining EastEnders for a small guest appearance later in the spring, playing the role of Estelle. What brings her to Walford remains to be seen, but I'm super excited to see her join the soap! She's better known for playing the role of Marlene in Only Fools And Horses, on a personal note, I got to meet her at Liverpool ComicCon last year, she was super nice! If I'd have known then that was going to be in EastEnders, I would've asked her about it, I would've loved to have heard her thoughts on it!
Now focusing on the soap, there's quite a bit of follow up on. I know the majority of you have seen Monday's episode, but I unfortunately haven't, so please no spoilers. I'll post about Monday and Tuesday's episodes tomorrow. I'm going to begin with the friendship and partnership that appears to be building between Ben and Kheerat! Honestly, I think it's the friendship that we never knew we needed! Confronting the youth who almost attacked Vinny and vandalised the Panesar's shop, both Ben and Kheerat warn the lad that he has simply messed with the wrong people. I guess that the Mitchell's have always had a reputation, now knowing that the Panesar family have a reputation also, putting both families together and becoming partners, I guess you could say they could hold all the power in certain situations, right?!
It's unknown what they did to him, but as they leave the scene, Kheerat bumps into Vinny and informs his brother that he's just basically cleaned up his mess. This leaves Vinny feeling absolutely devastated, he claims that he was going to deal with it in his own way, he feels saddened that even his own brother can't trust him to fix things. He informs his brother that he's still a valid part of the family and he's never been given the opportunity to prove himself.
This clearly plays on Kheerat's mind and he comes to realise that his younger brother has a point. Realising that all he wants is one chance, Kheerat informs his brother that he has a small job that he'd like him to take care of. This seems to surprise Vinny but after hearing that he'll be looking after some Russian fellow he jumps up with delight, ecstatic that he's finally being given the opportunity to prove himself to his family. I have to admit though, when it came to realisation of who Vinny would be working with or for, it was a little laughable! Coming face-to-face with the client, Vinny begins to act as the big man, informing the bloke that he will be looking after him. But as the Russian client lifts himself up from the table, the height difference between him and Vinny was just crazy! Poor Vinny looked incredibly small and tiny compared to him! He was little twice the size of Vinny, poor Vinny is completely dumbfounded as he's instructed to the driver instead.
Determined to stick to his guns and see the job through, Vinny agrees to be the driver. Although while this whole scene was being played out, the thoughts that crossed my mind were, what is this job? Who is this man? We didn't really know much about him to begin with. As Vinny is instructed to place a bag in the back of the car, he takes it upon himself to have a snoop inside the bag and finding some gold bars - which I have to say, looked a bit naff in my opinion! Of course we all know it's not real, but I kind of thought EastEnders would've made the gold bars look a lot more, decent? Anyway, regardless as Vinny gets giddy at the thought of handling gold, he gets back into the car, only realising that his client has passed in the backseat.
Realising that he needs help, he calls upon Callum as it seems that he can be the only person he can trust with this issue, especially considering the fact that we find out that this man worked for Stas, and if the police get involved, they both know that Ben and Kheerat will also be in big trouble. Callum does his brilliant police officer role and manages to sort out the situation. As things come to a head, Ben informs Vinny that he did a good job, even though he drops the bombshell that Stas was expecting more gold bars, but put it down to the deceased Russian man giving him the slip before he passed away. Being told he handled it well and did a good job, Vinny seems really pleased with himself.
Meanwhile however, both Kheerat and Suki are panicking, realising that Vinny should've been home and the job all done by now. To their relief Vinny walks through the door, as smug as anything! Kheerat demands to know what had happened, Vinny informs them about the man passing away and how dealt with it without the police getting involved. But then he pulls out two gold bars out of blazer pocket, informing his family that he is sticking up to the Panesar name and they need to start treating with respect and trust, and he out right demands that he wants to become a partner in the family business. Both Suki and Kheerat are completely stunned by his request, but will they agree and will they realise that Vinny is serious about making his mark on the family business and possibly reputation?!

Okay so the next thing I'm going to mention is Ruby, it looks as if she's still trying to absorb the recent news from Jean. As Martin walks in he apologises for waking her up in the middle of the night. Their conversation seems to swerve onto the subject of Martin coming to the realisation that when Stacey and Kush have both got to go away to prison, little Arthur could be losing both his Mum and Dad - to be honest, that's something that I've never really noticed. Both of Arthur's biological parents are going to be going to prison, I mean of course he'll have more family to look after him but that could be so damaging to the poor child. Would Ruby really be able to cope with another burden?!
As she carries on with her day, almost about to leave for an appointment, Ruby once again bumps into Jean, she states that maybe she should tell Stacey about her cancer coming back, but Jean is adamant that she doesn't want to spend the next few months arguing about whether she should take treatment or not. But what Jean speaks of next really got to me a bit, she reminisces about when Stacey and Ruby were younger, what such best friends they were and how Stacey always used to talk about her to her Mum, I think this moment might've touched Ruby also. Jean once again pleads to Ruby to drop the case against Stacey, looking almost defeated, Ruby nods and informs her she'll try and call DC Barnes. Being ever so thankful, Jean thanks Ruby repeatedly and hurries home to give Stacey the news that Ruby has dropped the charges, of course Stacey is really confused and doesn't seem to understand why Ruby would change her mind out of the blue, but Jean reassures her daughter that all she did was talk to her.
However, in the meantime, both Ruby and Martin have attended an appointment in regards to her miscarriage. Devastatingly, she's given the news that she could have endometriosis. Now doing a bit of research I've come to find that endometriosis is a long-term condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes. The symptoms include pain in the lower tummy or back, severe period pain also pain during or after sex. Endometriosis is a widely undiagnosed condition; taking on average 8 years to diagnose. It affects 1.5 million women in the UK or 1 in 10 women from puberty to menopause, although the impact can be felt for life. This could mean that Ruby may not be able to have children in the future? Does this mean that this child could've been her one and only opportunity to be a Mum?!
Understandably, this news is a massive blow for Ruby, in her eyes she has lost the one chance to become a Mum, and of course she is going to blame Stacey for it. As she's left with her thoughts alone, Jean finds her in the Vic crying, Jean takes the gentle approach asking whether she's okay. It's then that Ruby informs her about her news. Jean of course is more than sympathetic towards Ruby, as much as she gives her her condolences, she also is nervous about asking the question whether she got round to calling the detective. Astonished that Jean could even ask her something like that considering what she's just found out, she claims that she did try to call DC Barnes to try and change her statement, but it was simply too late and it's already in the hands of the court and will be going to trial. Jean is devastated to hear this news and frets that she's told Stacey she may not have to go to prison, with this news, Jean takes her leave. But as she does, it becomes perfectly clear that Ruby actually never did try to change her statement and actually refuses to do so.
Jean tries to build up her courage to try and tell her daughter what's happened, although she is finding it devastatingly hard as the family had made plans to go away with the kids, give them something to look forward to. But Stacey can see that Jean is worried about something and pleads her Mum to just tell her what's going on. Jean reveals that after speaking with Ruby again, unfortunately things are going to be going in Stacey's favour, she will still have to go to trial. With the realisation hitting hard, Stacey tries to reassure her Mum that everything will be fine and with the hope that she could be out after 6 months with the possibility of good behaviour, if things go okay for her should could be out of prison before Christmas. I can understand Stacey putting on a brave face for her family, but I also think deep down this is tearing her apart, being sent to prison for something she didn't do!
Later as she comes to terms with the fact she could be sent to prison, Martin and Ruby find her alone. She admits to them that she's going to plead Guilty, with the hope of being released from prison sooner rather than later. However, she has the main concern of telling the children. It's here where Martin actually seems to support Stacey, he informs her that when she feels ready to tell the children, he'll be there to support her. Agreeing to tell Lily first as she's the oldest, both Stacey and Martin sit her down and inform her that her Mum will be going away for a while, but Lily instantly knows what they're talking about and knows that that they're telling her that her Mum will be going to prison! Lily pleads for her not to go and the best and right thing for her to do would be to stay with her family.
This really gets to Stacey, she leaves the house claiming to get food for the family, but Martin knows that she's just putting on a brave face and tries to rush after her as she leaves the house. However, when Ruby catches him she questions whether he's going to join her at home, but when he's adamant that he's going to try and find Stacey, Ruby notices her hiding behind a wall absolutely sobbing her heart out. I do feel for Stacey right now, it's heart-breaking that she's having to leave her children and go to prison for something she hasn't done. Ruby shows no ounce of sympathy or guilt and leaves Stacey alone on the Square, crying her eyes out!
--
One small brief thing I have mention is that Frankie has finally moved into the Vic! Both Mick and Linda are overly happy to see her joining the family and inform her that she can move into Nancy's room and she can do whatever she likes with it! I loved how happy they all were and how slightly awkward it was as well, as Mick admits that even though Frankie is his daughter, he's still trying to find out more about her, getting to know her. It's then he notices an old flyer on the floor from Sharon's leaving do, it's almost a type of questionnaire, at first he laughs it off but realises that maybe this could give him an opportunity on learning more about his daughter. As they all gather upstairs, Mick, Linda and Frankie all share laughs as they answer the questions on the flyer's. It's a lovely happy moment and I'm thrilled to see Mick looking so happy after such a long time. I have to be honest, I am so excited about Nancy returning, I can't wait to see the dynamic grow between Nancy and Frankie! I think it could be brilliant if they manage to build a bond - eventually!
--
Finally, the last thing I have to mention is Gray! He still can't seem to get over the fact that Whitney is now dating Kush, I think it's fair to say that he is riddled with jealousy. Is he going to do everything he can to manipulate them into splitting up so he can get Whitney for himself?! He even manipulates Kush into changing their plans. Kush and Whitney had plans to take Arthur to the zoo, they want to give the young boy some happy memories before his Dad goes to prison, even though the young boy doesn't have a clue at this moment in time. Gray mentions that it's good he's spending time with his son, but informs him not to delay telling him that he'll be going away. It looks as if he's giving him "Father-ly Advice" - but now I think he's just completely manipulating him!
Taking his advice, Kush returns to Whitney and admits that it may just be best if he took Arthur to the zoo alone, that way he'll be able to tell his son the truth about him going away for while. Even though Whitney is a little disheartened, she agrees that it should be a father-son day. It's then that she gives Gray a call informing that she'll be free to pick up his children from school if she's still needed. Oooo Gray is so manipulative isn't he? That was his plan all along wasn't it?! As Whitney makes her way to the Atkins household and starts doing her cleaning and washing for Gray, Gray happens to get a phone call from the school, claiming that there has been some trouble with his son.
The first thing that is mentioned is the word "Bullying" - that made me question whether Mack is being bullied at school? Or - is he being the bully?! As the teacher pays Gray a visit, with Whiney present, they're informed that Mack has been lashing out at school, losing his temper and being physically aggressive with other children. They seem to understand that the poor boy has been through a lot and is still grieving for his deceased Mother, but they simply cannot condone violent behaviour. They inform Gray that if things don't seem to improve with his behaviour that little Mack will have to be excluded. Trying to be the best Dad he can be, he informs the teacher that he'll look into getting Mack some counselling, but something tells me that putting a child through counselling, isn't going to help the situation. It gives you the thought that Mack could be going down the same path as his Dad? Has Mack actually seen and possibly heard his Dad's antics and is taking after his Dad, if that could be the case, then there's no wonder why Mack has started acting out! It'll be something he's always known and brought up on.
Gray thanks Whitney for being there for him and the kids and claims that she could do so much better! Once again he tries to manipulate her by discussing the fact that Kush going to prison could change him, would she really want to be with someone who's spent time in prison? Go in as one person and come out as someone else?! It looks as if he gets into Whitney's mind for a moment, making her question her relationship with Kush. Later as Mack returns home Gray takes the opportunity to talk to his son about his recent behaviour in school, even though he talks to his son in a calm manner, something is telling me that he's really trying to hold back from lashing out, even almost accusing his son of taking something from his Mum's jewellery box?! I'm intrigued to see if this story about Mack's behaviour will develop, because it will become known where Mack is learning his behaviour from! Also if Gray does send his son to counselling, could Mack end up admitting that he's learnt his behaviour from his Dad because of what he's witnessed at home?! I don't know whether it will, but I'd love to see this little story escalate!
Finding out that Whitney is having to stay late at Gray's, Kush the romantic gesture by bringing his girlfriend a takeaway. As they enjoy their food and take advantage of being alone at the Atkins household, whilst the children are in bed, they have a lovely meal. However as soon as Gray walks in, he's horrified to see Whitney and Kush sat as his dinner table enjoying a romantic meal! Absolutely livid he informs them to leave - well I guess you could say Kush more than Whitney - claiming that Kush is just using Whitney for his advances before going to prison. But Kush completely and utterly shuts Gray down and warns him not to say another word otherwise they'll be adding more years onto his sentence! I absolutely loved this moment, Kush completely put Gray in his place! But also, to Gray's shock, so did Whitney!!!! After witnessing his outburst to Kush, it wouldn't be a surprise where Mack learned his behaviour from!
Oooooo I loved this so much! I apologise once again for this post being so late! Thank you all for being incredibly patient with me! I'll be back again tomorrow for another double episode post! Thank you all for reading! Please feel free to leave me a comment or a message about anything EastEnders related and I'll gladly respond! Love you all xXx

When Rachel had invited him to accompany her to Themyscira of all places, Gar couldn’t believe it. Of course he said yes. It was Themyscira! What moron wouldn’t agree to that? He also just wanted to get away, away from everything that had happened.
“How much longer are we on this boat for?” Gar asked as he leaned over the side of the boat they were on. It had been a long, seemingly endless journey as it was, but the ship was pushing Gar over the edge. He wanted to throw up violently, but he had already emptied his stomach from vomiting. There was nothing left to bring up, and he was having trouble eating on the boat as well. The sooner they got to Themyscira, the better. The first thing Gar was going to do was hug and kiss the ground beneath his feet. It was something he had taken for granted, the solid ground, but not anymore.
“Not much longer,” Rachel said, looking at the words in the book in front of her. “According to this, we just got to go through that,” she pointed in front of her. Gar looked and groaned again, leaning his head over the rails again. Of course, the only way to get to Themyscira was through a storm. Protecting the Amazons from whatever dangers wanted to attack them.
“I’m going to lay down before my legs give way and I fall off.”
“Good idea,” Rachel nodded, eyeing Gar and seeing him pale before her eyes. The last thing this trip needed was Gar going overboard and Rachel having to rescue him.
Gar groaned and waved faintly at Rachel as he stumbled inside of the boat to his cabin. He crashed into the doorway and muttered to himself as he collapsed onto his bunk and stared up at the ceiling. Nausea rocked around inside of him with the movements of the boat, making him dizzier than he was before. The top of his head tingled then his feet as he swayed with the ship. Maybe he could sleep for a while.
________________________________________________________________
“Gar, wake up!”
Gar felt himself being shaken widely, forcing him to open his eyes and come face to face with Rachel. He frowned and shifted himself into a sitting position. Blinking hard, Gar pushed his luminous green hair from his eyes and swallowed a yawn. How long had he been sleeping? It had only felt like ten minutes, but Rachel was wearing different clothes.
“What is it?”
“We’re here.”
“Huh?”
“We’re at Themyscira!” Rachel said excitedly. Very few mortals had been lucky enough to set eyes on the hidden paradise on earth, of course she was excited.
“Seriously?”
“Yeah, come on,” Rachel tried to pull Gar to his feet. “You’re totally gonna want to see this!”
Gar didn’t fight as Rachel dragged him to his feet and let her lead him to the railings again. Rachel was right, Gar did want to see this!
White cliffs were the first thing that caught his eye, all of them crisp chalk white with green tops, towering higher than any normal cliff. Tumbling down the cliffs and other rock formations were a water that was so blue and clean that it almost seemed to glow, even water hidden amongst the shade. Hidden at the top of the cliffs, where the waterfalls led to, was the city itself. Themyscira. Whitestone houses and tall pillars with statues of Amazons, living and passed. Gar stared at the sight before him stunned into a silence of admiration as they approached the island’s golden beaches. There was a long, white stone dock with Amazons waiting there to greet them. When the boat was close enough, the women leapt onto the ship and started to help tie the boat off. The woman closest to Gar was a towering example of a woman with biceps and quadriceps that could put Olympic athletes to shame. He had to crane his head up to look at her, even then his vision was skewered put the blaring sun, but he could make out features of the woman. Older, he knew that much, she looked around Bruce’s age if he had to guess, she was wearing the garb of a general that he had seen in the books that Rachel poured over every morning, afternoon and evening. The woman looked as though she could take Connor down with a single flick to the forehead.
“You can get off now,” the woman told him.
“T-thank you, Madame Amazon,” Gar nodded as he stumbled to get off. The woman chuckled and shook her head in amusement.
“Trigona,” she said.
“Right, right,” he coughed and nodded again. Surely he was going to get a headache. “Thank you, Trigona.”
“You’re welcome, young man,” Trigona smiled. The emphasis on man reminded Gar that here, on Themyscira, he was an originality to the women, the Amazons. Not many, if any of them, had met a male before. He was like a display to them, something to mumble about to each other in stupefaction and curiosity.
“Gar, come on,” Rachel called. Gar turned and looked to see Rachel on the dock, her arms folded for him not coming quick enough.
“Right,” Gar said, he turned back to Trigona, “nice meeting you,” he said before leaping off the boat and onto the dock next to Rachel. The Amazons stood opposite them, looking at them intensely. Gar and Rachel looked awkwardly to each other before sighing and looking at the Amazons.
“It’s Donna, isn’t it?” said one of the Amazons. It was evident to the female warriors who looked at the teenagers. What happened was written all over their faces, the sadness in Gar’s eyes and the solemnness on Rachel’s face. The women knew it. There was no need to beat around the bush.
“Yeah…” Rachel nodded solemnly.
“Come, let’s talk, and see what we can do.”
“Young man, you look quite faint,” said another woman, who crouched down and placed a hand on Gar’s shoulder. He was still quite pale from the journey, and his legs were wobbling. Rachel smiled, sympathetically at her friend.
“Gar struggled a lot with seasickness.”
“Well then,” the woman said, “let’s get you nice and rested to gather your strength.”
“I’d like that,” Gar said.
“I’ll have Epione come and look you over,” she said as she gently guided Gar off.
________________________________________________________________
For two days, Gar was on bed rest, especially after he stood up after Epione making sure he was alright and he practically crumpled to the ground. Rachel came and visited him between meetings with the Amazons, who had grown quite fond of her and Gar in their short time there.
“How're the meetings been going?” Gar asked as he and Rachel ate their meals together.
“They’re… complicated,” Rachel confessed, “they have so much knowledge and things here that I kinda feel a little behind…”
“Don’t underestimate yourself,” Gar assured her.
“Epione reckons you might be able to leave the bed,” Rachel said changing the topic.
“Thank God!” Gar chuckled, “I’m in Themyscira of all places and haven’t seen any of it. Not complaining though, if there is one thing I know about Themyscira I can say with complete and utter confidence is that the Amazons have perfected how to make the most comfortable bed ever!”
“Tell me about it, I’ve slept like a baby since being here.” Rachel smiled, “reckon we’ll be allowed to take our mattresses with us?”
“Probably not,” Gar shifted into a more comfortable position. “Don’t you have another meeting to get to?”
“Oh, yes!” Rachel’s eyes widened as Gar reminded her. “Thanks, I’ll see you later,” Rachel waved as she ran out of the room, leaving Gar alone in his room.
________________________________________________________________
“Where do you think you’re going?” Sofia lifted her eyebrow and folded her arms as she caught Y/N trying to climb out of her bedroom window. Her leg was sticking out of the window, and she was in the process of pulling herself out of the window to jump to the ground below.
“Out?” Y/N cocked her head to the right as she looked at Sofia.
“Where to?”
“The… er… the cliffs?”
“Want to try again?”
“Fine,” Y/N groaned as she pulled herself back into her room, “I was going to go look at the outsiders! That girl and the… the man!”
“Y/N, we have spoken about this,” Sofia scolded.
“I’ve never seen one of them before, let alone met one,” Y/N said, “all I want is a peak. He won’t even know I’m there.”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because you are young, there is much to learn,” Sofia said calmly. “You, like Donna, need to train properly first.”
Y/N was a lot younger than Donna but had grown from an infant on Themyscira. Being a child from the world of man, but having none of the memories of the place. Donna had found Y/N on a mission with Diana. It was a lab, and whatever had happened, there had given Y/N Amazon abilities. The Amazons never really spoke about it, but Donna had let a few things slip. Y/N knew that she was experimented on as a baby, Y/N knew that she didn’t have any biological family. Y/N knew that the experiment was supposed to be able to create super-soldiers that could be used against those like Diana and Clark. Donna mentioned the name ‘Lex’ once or twice, but that name meant nothing to her. Donna showed baby Y/N to Diana, who had been looking through the files and knew what Y/N was being used for, immediately knew what to do. They brought her to Themyscira and had asked Sofia, an old friend of Diana’s who was a finalist for the title of Wonder Woman – of course, Diana trusted her to train Y/N as an Amazon, and Sofia was a warm-hearted, kind-souled woman. Perfect for raising a baby into a mighty Amazon.
“Come on, Sofia,” Y/N whined. “I’m only curious.”
“Curiosity killed the cat,” Sofia warned, saying the expression that she learned from Diana and Donna when they came back to Themyscira. “Now, come on, time for training!”
“Okay,” Y/N sighed and nodded as she followed sulkily.
________________________________________________________________
Y/N wasn’t going to give up that easily. She was dying to take a peek at the man that she had heard whispers about. Trigona had told her and Sofia all about the man when she stopped by for supper. Apparently, he had green hair. Was that normal for men? Y/N didn’t know, and she wasn’t going to ask. Sofia had always warned Y/N that men and their world were filled with temptations and dangers, things that she might not win battles against. Y/N didn’t blame Sofia for wanting to protect Y/N. While she didn’t know much about the world of man, she could tell that what they did to Y/N as a baby wasn’t right. It was a bad thing. The word ‘experiment’ sounded cold and heartless. Of course, Sofia wouldn’t want Y/N to have contact with the world that hurt her. All Y/N wanted was a peek, just a small one, to satisfy what was nagging in her brain, then she would never mention it again. That was all she wanted, all she needed.
She grabbed her sword, just to be safe, and went to look. Sofia was at one of those meetings with the girl that had come, as were most of the Amazons. Y/N was too young.
Y/N knew that the man was somewhere on the island. He had been taken off of bed rest and was free to roam. She just had to look for him. Where could he have gone? There was an awful lot to see on Themyscira, and even Y/N was still discovering new areas on her adventures. It was a needle in a haystack situation. Time to start searching.
________________________________________________________________
The moment Y/N saw the mop of green hair, she dropped to the ground. She was minutes away from giving up, strolling atop the cliffs and kicking at the dirt beneath her feet and then a green-haired figure was seen in the corner of her eyes. Why she dropped to the ground, she didn’t know. Instinct, like hunting, really. When stalking your prey, you don’t want to be seen. On the ground, Y/N pulled herself forward on her elbows to the edge and peered over it, keeping herself as close to the ground as possible so not to be seen.
He certainly had green hair, but Y/N couldn’t really see anything else defining about the man. Man. Y/N was seeing a real man with her own two eyes. A man. Maybe she could get a closer look. She bit her lip and carefully got to her feet, creeping along the edges of the cliff, still not being caught. There were some rocks on the beach. She could hide behind them. With a gentle landing, Y/N leapt off of the cliff and landed on the sand, creeping behind the rocks. The man still hadn’t seen her yet. She peered behind the rocks and saw him closer. He was smiling to himself and squinting in the bright sunlight that hurt his eyes. His hands were in his pockets, and he strolled casually, taking in his surroundings. Y/N smiled and leaned a little further to look.
Carefully, Y/N started to follow him on foot, knowing she could hide behind the rocks a few feet ahead.

Finally, after two days, Gar could look around the island. Paradise on Earth. All the Amazons he had met were so lovely and absolutely fascinating, and he couldn’t wait to know them better, but they had meetings, so while they did that, he was free to roam.
The beach was, of course, the first place to go. Those golden bays looked so inviting on the boat. He strolled aimlessly, smiling and looking around. There were no stones, no shells, but there were large rocks thrown around the shores. It was perfect, absolutely perfect. Being on Themyscira, Gar felt all his troubles melt away. Though some doubt crept in when Gar thought he saw a figure move out of the corner of his eye. Something appearing in front of the cliff. But when he didn’t see anything, he thought it must’ve been a bird or something.
However, Gar couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched. Weren’t all the Amazons at the meeting?
He slowed his walk down ever-so-slightly and shifted his eyes to look over his shoulder subtly. There was a figure behind him, he knew that, but he couldn’t see who. They were close to him, so close he could hear them breathing. Quickly, Gar spun around and grabbed the figure, pinning them to the ground, growling, letting his eyes flash.
________________________________________________________________
It happened so fast. Y/N was foolish enough to try and get closer to him and then her back hit the sand. She saw green, a lot of green. Using the hilt of her sword, Y/N shoved his chest, sending him backwards, then kicked his feet out from underneath him, pressing the blade against his throat. She pressed her knee into his chest to keep him still.
“Stay down!” She ordered
________________________________________________________________
Gar was stunned, to say the least. His eyes weren’t glowing anymore, and there were no fangs, no growl, no nothing. His hands were by his head, and his eyes were wide open as he looked at the person pinning him to the down. He heard them speak in a firm voice, ordering him to stay down, and feeling the sharp blade against his throat, Gar wasn’t going to argue, but looking at the person, it wasn’t what he expected. A girl around his age was who was following him, who he pinned down and who was easily holding him down like he was a ragdoll. She had Y/H/C hair that shone in the light of the sun and piercing Y/E/C eyes that stared him down. He gulped. She was a powerful-looking young woman.
“Sorry!” Gar said quickly, “I didn’t know it was you… I, I, I thought you were going to attack me. I just wanted to be safe.”
The girl eyed him cautiously before slowly pulling her sword back. He could hear Cliff in his head telling him to ‘say something, dumbass’.
________________________________________________________________
Yeah, Y/N thought, this guy wasn’t going to hurt her. She knew it by his eyes, they stared at her completely stunned and then when he spoke it just confirmed what she already knew. He was a man who didn’t want to harm. A rarity apparently according to what she heard of the land of man.
She pulled back her sword and let him get to his feet, but she kept a tight grasp on the sword and looked at him closely. He smiled, awkwardly at Y/N.
“Sorry, for, you know, attacking you…” he mumbled, shoving his hands in his pocket.
“You’re the man?” Y/N said instead of acknowledging what he had said.
“Erm, yes,” he nodded, “Gar,” he held his hand out, “nice to meet you.”
Y/N eyed the hand hesitantly before looking at Gar who smiled again, looking at his own hand, silently asking her to shake his hand. She did, cautiously. Y/N placed her hand in his and gave him a firm handshake.
“Gar?” Y/N repeated.
“Um, my full name is Garfield, but I prefer Gar,” Gar explained in a rambling voice, “You know, like a nickname. Garfield Logan is kinda a long mouthful of a name, so just going by Gar Logan, or just Gar really, no one really goes around wanting to be called by their first and last name, do they? Anyway, going by Gar is easier.”
“Well, Gar, I’m… sorry for concerning you,” Y/N coughed, retracting her hand which Gar was still slowly shaking, unaware, looking Y/N in the eye and smiling. “That was inconsiderate of me. I’ve just… I’ve never seen a man before, and I was curious.”
“Right, you’re an Amazon,” Gar nodded as though he just realised. “Hope I met the expectations you had,” he chuckled awkwardly. Y/N laughed herself, but before she could answer, Sofia came running towards them.
“Y/N, what did I tell you?” Sofia scolded her, grabbing Y/N by the arm and pulling her away from Gar.
“I was curious!”
“Curiosity killed the cat, Y/N, remember?”
Y/N groaned and let her head rollback. Of all the things Donna and Dianna brought to Themyscira from the world of man, that damned expression was the worst thing.
“It’s fine, really,” Gar said, drawing attention to himself. “Y/N, is it?” Sofia and Y/N turned and looked at him, Sofia scowling and Y/N smiling a little. Gar smiled back at Y/N, which Sofia noticed, causing her to pull Y/N back further.
“Yes,” Y/N nodded.
“Y/N seems really nice,” Gar assured Sofia, who, while proud that Y/N was a nice young woman, was still not pleased. “It didn’t bother me.”
“That is beside the point,” Sofia said to Gar before turning to Y/N,
“Sorry, Sofia,” Y/N sighed, looking down.
“Come on, let’s leave the young man be and talk about this elsewhere,” Sofia said before they turned to Gar. “Thank you, young man, for being such a nice young man, but we ought to be going.”
“Farewell, Gar,” Y/N smiled, “I hope we can talk again soon.”
“Me too.”
________________________________________________________________
“I’m sorry, Sofia,” Y/N repeated as she sat down.
“When I say something, I want to be listened to, Y/N.” Sofia scolded, “What if you had bothered him? What if this ended badly for one of you? What if someone had gotten hurt?”
“I know, I shouldn’t have disobeyed,” Y/N agreed, thinking to Gar’s glowing green eyes and how she had held a knife to his throat. Yes, they quickly mended the situation and found themselves getting along, but what if they hadn’t? “He’s really nice though, Sofia,” Y/N added.
“Yes, he appeared to be,” Sofia nodded, sitting next to Y/N, stroking her hair.
“He has a nice smile, doesn’t he?”
Sofia chuckled as she hugged her surrogate daughter.
______________________________________________________________
“Gar, what’s up?” Rachel asked as Gar came back with a beaming smile.
“I met someone today,” he shrugged, looking at his friend.
“What’s her name?”
“Y/N, she’s… incredible.”

She Was Killed By Space Junk - Watchmen (TV Series) blog
(SPOILER WARNING: The following is an in-depth critical analysis. if you haven’t seen this episode yet, you may want to before reading this review)
The first episode was a shaky, but intriguing start. The second episode was both incredibly provocative and intelligently written. What about the third episode? Um... I’m honestly not too sure what to make of it, if I’m honest. I watched it twice like I do with everything I review and I genuinely don’t know what to say about it. I couldn’t even tell you if I liked it or not. I think I liked it.... but I couldn’t tell you why.
Okay. Sorry. Hi guys. Let me explain what happened. I wrote that first paragraph and then I got writer’s block, so I decided to step away from it. I had a nap, played a video game and then decided to watch the episode again for a third time with fresh eyes. Now my thoughts are a little more concrete. So. She Was Killed By Space Junk. Having watched this episode three times now, I’ve decided that I don’t like this episode very much at all, and that’s less to do with what’s in the episode and more to do with what isn’t.
Let me explain.
Reviewing episodes like this one can often be very frustrating because it’s hard to tell what is a genuine flaw and what is merely setup for what’s to come. I have a number of problems with this episode, but for all I know, what I’m about to talk about might not actually be problems at all and will all be explained in a future episode. Or they are genuine problems and I’m inadvertently giving the writers way too much credit. I don’t know. That’s why it’s so frustrating.
My main point of contention is with the character of Laurie. First of all, let me just say that Jean Smart doesn’t put a foot wrong. She gives a great performance and is a good choice to play an older Laurie. The problem I have is with her characterisation. Or, at the very least, bits of her characterisation. I don’t know. It’s complicated.
Laurie’s inclusion in the TV series was something I was actually most looking forward to because I felt her character was kind of shortchanged in the graphic novel. Initially starting out as an effective and scathing critique of how women are often presented in comics, over the course of Watchmen’s story her role was reduced until she ended up becoming little more than a prop for the male characters’ stories. It was disappointing and it’s led to me arguing multiple times that Silk Spectre is one of the most underrated and wasted elements of Watchmen. The HBO series felt like a perfect opportunity to right some wrongs and give Laurie the attention she deserves. She Was Killed By Space Junk certainly gave her the focus and attention she didn’t receive in the graphic novel, but I’m very much struggling to ascertain what the show was trying to achieve here.
Let’s quickly remind ourselves where the graphic novel left us with her character. She had recently discovered that the Comedian, the man who tried to rape her mother, was her biological father, she was in a relationship with Dan Dreiberg, aka Nite Owl, and they were both on the run from the law, hellbent on continuing their lives as vigilantes. Okay. How does the HBO series continue this? Well it turns out she and Dan are no longer together. I know some fans really don’t like this, but I personally don’t have a problem with it. In fact I’m perfectly happy with it. In my review of A Stronger, Loving World, I explained how I didn’t believe their relationship could possibly last long term because it was clear that they were together not because they were in love, but rather because they were indulging in each other’s fantasies, and the fact that Dan’s seeming fascination with the Silk Spectre porn comic supported this. Showrunner Damon Lindelof clearly agrees, so cool. It’s always nice to be proven right.
Anyway, at some point between the graphic novel and the HBO series, the fantasy was shattered and the pair split up. I’m assuming what shattered the fantasy was them getting caught by the FBI. It’s unclear what’s happened to Dan at this time. Judging by the fact that the police in Oklahoma are using Owlships and goggles, I’m assuming that Dan was arrested and his equipment was appropriated by law enforcement. Laurie meanwhile has struck some kind of deal and now she’s working with the Anti-Vigilante Taskforce and enforcing the Keene Act, which is an interesting parallel with how her father, the Comedian, served the American government during the Vietnam War. But you see this is where I start to get a bit confused.
The episode opens with Laurie setting a trap for a vigilante known as Mister Shadow (basically Fake Batman) and shooting him, either not knowing or not caring whether or not Mister Shadow’s body armour would save him. She’s also taken on the Comedian’s last name Blake and displays a very similar nihilistic attitude, making dark jokes and exhibiting uncaring, unsympathetic behaviour. Now I don’t necessarily have a problem with Laurie becoming more nihilistic, given what she’s been through. Having witnessed Ozymandias and his squid of doom, it’s bound to affect her worldview. However, her turning into a female Comedian doesn’t really marry up with her character at all. And yes, I know at the end of the graphic novel she talked about getting a gun and body armour, like the Comedian, but it didn’t work there either. It felt too drastic a character shift and was painfully on the nose. I didn’t like it there and I don’t like it here either. I just don’t buy that she would want to emulate the man who tried to rape her mother.
I especially don’t like her violent, uncaring attitude toward Mister Shadow. Why does she have such a disdain for vigilantes? Is it because of what happened with Dan, and she’s projecting that onto everyone else? Has she become so nihilistic that she just doesn’t give a shit anymore? There’s a moment later in the episode where she asks someone if their civil rights are being violated only to then turn around and say she was being sarcastic. That really didn’t sit right with me. It just doesn’t feel like something Laurie would say.
And then there’s the whole thing with Doctor Manhattan. Throughout the episode we see her in a phone booth trying to tell a joke to Manhattan (quite what the purpose of these phone booths are, I don’t know. Considering that people in the world of Watchmen believe that Manhattan was giving people cancer, why would anyone want to call him?). She clearly misses him to the point where she has a large blue dildo hidden a briefcase that’s clearly a direct reference to Pulp Fiction. I REALLY don’t like this. At all. The reason Laurie left Manhattan in the first place was because he couldn’t emotionally satisfy her, being an omnipresent demigod and all. So why would she be pining after him? The blue dildo joke in particular just felt kind of degrading. Just... why?
Weirder still is the joke she spends the whole episode trying to tell him. It’s clearly an indirect reference to the Pagliacci joke from the graphic novel, except the Pagliacci joke had a specific purpose in the graphic novel and its meaning was clear. Rorschach was remarking on how America was relying on the Comedian to save them from violence and corruption, which was futile considering what a violent and corrupt person the Comedian was. Here, however, I have no idea what Laurie is trying to say with the brick joke at all. I’m assuming the bricklayer is her father and she’s following in his footsteps. Okay, I kind of get that (except not really for the reasons I’ve already mentioned, but whatever). But then we come to the whole bit with God at the pearly gates sending Nite Owl, Ozymandias and Doctor Manhattan to Hell, only to then get killed by the brick from the previous joke. Now... what the fuck is that all about? I’ve been racking my brains, checking what other people said, and I can’t find any satisfying answers. It just feels like pretentious, unnecessary fanwank. The best I can come up with is that Laurie is expressing how she’s not letting men dictate her life anymore. But... she’s spent the whole episode pining after Doctor Manhattan, she’s modelled herself after her rapist father, and at the end of the episode, she sleeps with her assistant Petey, an agent who claims to not to be a fan of superheroes, but is totes a fan of superheroes. So... is that the joke? She wants to escape from the shadow of the men in her life, but can’t? Or she intends to overcome the patriarchy that has kept her down, but she still ends up choosing to indulge in the power fantasy of Petey? Or does it refer to something else she’s planning to do later? It’s all so frustratingly vague.
As I was watching this episode, I honestly lost track of the number of times I thought to myself ‘I don’t know where Lindelof is going with this.’ Sometimes this approach works, keeping the audience in the dark in order to build intrigue and suspense, but for Watchmen, a story that’s famous for its dense material and subject matter, it’s just plain annoying. In fact this whole episode feels really off to me. Instead of focusing on character narratives and thematic storytelling, She Was Killed By Space Junk relies more on a plot heavy story that moves the pieces of the larger arc forward and keeping certain specific details vague in an attempt to keep people watching. Except that’s not really what Watchmen is about and it results in leaving the more integral aspects of the story in the dust. Angela barely gets a look in here, and considering a significant portion of the episode focuses on Judd Crawford’s funeral, it feels like a massive, missed opportunity. How does it feel discovering that the man you liked and respected wasn’t the man you thought he was? Does that change your feelings toward him? Does it invalidate the good times you had with him? And with Laurie there, the show could have compared and contrasted the two. How these two women move forward knowing these uncomfortable truths about the men in the lives? But the show never really capitalises on this.
And the annoying thing is, for all I know, all the things I’m talking about could actually be addressed in a future episode, thus rendering what I’m saying moot. I don’t know. I can’t tell if this is all just really bad setup for an eventual satisfying payoff or if it’s just plain bad.
That being said, while I do ultimately dislike this episode, there are a few things I like. For instance, I do like what we learn about the larger world of Watchmen. We learn that Oklahoma is the only state that’s allowing the police to mask up and that this law was passed by Joe Keene Jr., whose father was responsible for the Keene Act that was passed outlawing vigilantes. Joe Keene Jr. was briefly introduced in the previous episode and it looks like he’s going to be playing a larger role from here on out. Let’s wait and see where that goes.
We also learn that Looking Glass knows Laurie and has prior history with her. He even confirms Sister Night’s secret identity to her, albeit reluctantly. So is he a plant? Maybe sent by the FBI to try and sabotage Keene Jr? Hmmm, what’s going on here then?
And then there’s Ozymandias.
While I dislike how Laurie is being handled so far, I love, love, LOVE what they’re doing with Adrian Veidt. After the events of the graphic novel, it seems he’s gone into self imposed exile. Whether this is as a punishment or as a way to make sure he doesn’t inadvertently blab about his involvement with the squid is unknown. Anyway, he’s been here for three years now, judging by the candles on the cake, and he seems to be going a little bit stir crazy. He’s sacrificing his clones in order to try and find a means of escape and now he has to contend with a bloodthirsty game warden (another clone). The idea of Ozymandias being hoist by his own petard and being oppressed by the very tools and instruments of his own vanity is absolutely tantalising, and I love what Jeremy Irons is doing with the part and the way he’s depicting the character’s slow descent into lunacy.
Also a special shoutout has to go to the costume department for the Ozymandias costume we see Adrian finally don. It’s gloriously, breathtakingly terrible. Truly one of the worst superhero costumes ever seen on screen... which is exactly what it should be!
One of the things I intensely disliked about the 2009 movie was Zack Snyder’s attempts to make the characters look cool and stylish when in reality these characters are supposed to be the complete opposite of that. Rorschach looks like a hobo, puts on a gruff voice and wears lifts on his heels in a pathetic attempt to look more imposing. Nite Owl wears a ridiculously tight fitting costume that shows off his belly bulge. Silk Spectre’s outfit looks more like something a stripper would wear and is not even remotely practical. They look stupid to us, the outsiders, but to the characters, it makes them feel powerful. That’s the whole point, and the HBO series captures that perfectly. Adrian is going to war with the game warden and wants to feel powerful, so he puts on his objectively silly purple and gold shawl in an effort to reclaim the power he once had. It’s laugh out hilarious, made all the more funnier by the fact that he’s clearly far too old to be playing dress up. It’s moments like this that demonstrate that Lindelof clearly does understand the source material, which is what makes the way Laurie is treated all the more baffling.
She Was Killed By Space Junk isn’t a bad episode. There’s stuff to like, but it doesn’t have any of the intelligent thematic storytelling or characterisation the previous two episodes had. Coupled with the apparent mishandling of Laurie’s character and the deliberate vagueness of some of its plotting leads to it being an episode that’s ultimately more frustrating than enjoyable to watch.

So, I’ve been thinking about Zack and having mixed feelings about the “nudes wallpaper.” How is Zack posting those blurred nudes different from women posting blurred dick pics guys send them? The nudes Zack got were not only unsolicited, but he frequently begged the women to stop. If anything, they were harassing him. Why are the same people who are mad about him posting the nudes, the same ones who applaud women who do the same? Neither men nor women who send unsolicited nudes are innocent.
the nudes zack used were sent on snapchat. they “disappear” after 5 or so seconds; they are clearly not meant to be saved or used for public consumption. there’s a few tweets where he’s said he’s glad he gets sent them eg the one where he says he’s saving a nude photo on snapchat but forgets her username. implying he wanted more nudes and more contact from her. he did at other times express that he didn’t want them. although his main concern is of the ones who looked and/or were under 18. so it sounds like his reaction was based on who sent them/their age/what they looked like. there were also at least one tweet about him looking at emily ratajkowski’s nudes after she was *hacked* (she was hacked twice. she also said herself after that that a photobook of nudes by a photographer was a violation).
there is also that photo he took and posted of the woman in a bra posing at a concert that’s what the hell because he not just took it, but posted it to twitter and referred to her, a human being, as “the boobs” or believed them to be the only relevant part of her for the purposes of the post. (he also referenced her here, albeit in a better way.) it clearly wasn’t a she just got hot at the concert and took her shirt off thing but him seeing women as walking boobs. it looks like outside the venue too, making it unlikely she was like that herself. indicating he asked her to take her top off to take the photo.
and here’s one of a topless woman he posted with him in front of her, head on her hands, her hands on her breasts, his head on her breasts. ftr, i don’t consider female breasts to be nudity anymore than male breasts; i object to the objectifying/pornifying of them. if she wasn’t drunk or high and was similar in age to him, and it wasn’t photographed and posted online, i don’t even really object to silly poses with her breasts exposed. but he clearly uses women and women’s breasts as “bragging rights” for himself too. communicating directly and indirectly with other people, esp men about what a manly man he is. we are symbols he uses to communicate with other men about masculinity, sex.
here’s him decreeing that women get their boobs out at shows, with an attempted cover up by saying guys too if they are on someone’s shoulders. he then goes on about “loving” lesbians, boobs, how everyone does, but that man boobs are weird.
not to mention how he texted breezy about her breasts in a bathing suit being his phone background.
i’m not sure what’s going on with this one because linda ignarro deleted her tweets, but it seems based on another comment in the thread linda was angry at him for comments he made about or how he was looking at her breasts?
here’s him commenting on a post of woman in prostitution/porn about her breasts. and posting a camgirl in a bra to twitter. clearly, she wasn’t consenting to being photographed and posted elsewhere. and another camgirl, topless. in these three cases, economic need and economic coercion are involved as well which makes photographing/screenshoting his computer screen and posting them even worse. (eg accepting money isn’t consent/desire, it’s compliance with sexual acts in exchange for money)
he may not be serious here, but he says he’ll give a woman tickets if she shows her breasts to him.
(deleted one because of clarification from the woman involved in the conversation)
here’s one that pisses me off and makes me want to rage at how dehumanizing/pornifying/objectifying it is of women. and this guy thinks he likes women? i swear, when misogyny is sexualized, most people, especially men (but many women too), can’t see it. it becomes “just sex.” if sex is good and not bad (what are you a prude? a nun?), than anything under the banner of sex must be good. (if anyone doesn’t see a problem: imagine this was a white biker portraying a black/asian/native/etc man or even an overtly effeminate man like that, saying that is what he does to them, what those men are and are for.)
(and now i’m thinking about that thread where he told a fan he only gave an upgrade to a pregnant friend of hers because he finds “pregos” hot, and her views on it now, but that’s veering off the direct topic.)
there is a cultural difference to male vs female nudity as well. most of the women, for one, would have been sending breasts and few if any, would have been sending spread vulva. for example, almost all of the nude wallpapers are clearly of breasts. breasts aren’t genitals, and they are naturally the organs that keep us alive and help bond us to our mothers early in life. that they’ve been turned into inherently sexual organs/parts, seen as nudity, speaks to patriarchy (the female body only has use and worth to the extent it and its parts please men sexually. the female body is seen to exist to titillate and please, whereas men’s bodies are functional, self-owned, made for their own pleasure, not decorative, not to titillate or pleasure women except in limited proscribed ways eg piv, the use/stimulation of the penis.).
the equivalent to female breasts isn’t penis and testicles... it’s male buttocks culturally because male breasts aren’t considered sexual or nudity, and biologically because the biological equivalent to penis is clitoris/vulva. the equivalent would be women getting bare ass pics or back, butt, thighs pics from men. even lip and tongue pics from men would be more comparable to breast pics than dick pics wink wonk haha.
even vulva pics aren’t the same culturally as dick pics because of patriarchy eg the penis defines sex under patriarchy not the vulva/clitoris, the historical and current use of the penis as a weapon of sexual and reproductive control of women. a woman’s nudity is vulnerability eg to sexual assault, being entered/raped, whereas men’s nudity, especially of the penis, has the power to convey threat. just think of the reality of male flashers scaring, threatening, frightening women and children vs what would happen to a female flasher flashing her nude front body to men. she’d be sexually assaulted/raped (not by every man, but at some point, likely quickly), and seen as a woman in prostitution, not seen as a threat. men think women want dick pics in large part because they like looking at penises and vulvas themselves, are far more fascinated and obsessed with penises on average than women are, would love if women sent them pussy pics, think that gets women hot because genital pics from/of strangers gets them hot. this last point is a generalization, but mostly holds.
another difference: zack posted porn to his twitter, even beyond the camgirls. plus breast and bra photos of women... women don’t post dick pics randomly and often on their blogs/twitters, and then complain about getting dick pics. we get them regardless, often when we explicitly say we don’t want dick pics/don’t want to hear about your dick. if a woman posted dick pics because why not/she actually liked the look of them/etc, she’d get even more dick pics. no one would think she was seriously harmed or violated if she got ones uninvited or one’s she thought were too ugly/small/big/etc or ones likely/definitely under 18. neutrally, they’d see little harm, if sexist, they’d blame her. what did she expect? she was ASKING for it. if she wants to see some dicks, she wants to get sent them all. etc. even in his specific case, he didn’t object to the breast pics, he objected to how some of them were obviously underage.
another way to look at it: men know the difference between breast/upper half of body or even a woman’s bum and dick pics. just ask them whether they’d rather get unwanted women’s breast pics or men’s dick pics. even gay/bi men know it’s different, and unless repeated harassment from the same woman or group of women, it most likely wouldn’t have much negative impact on even gay men. even vulva pics would be seen as less potentially threatening/upsetting than penis pics. indeed, zack agrees eg says dicks are weird but boobs are great, people shouldn’t see dicks
and finding all those tweets now has me thinking zack is even worse than before. and has me wondering more how this reflects onto and reveals things about b as well.
i could dig up other tweets too, but i am pretty high strung right now.
