— even tho his son is shy, he highly encourages him to make some friends in pre-k but assures him that he should take it day by day & that he’ll always love him no matter what

— definitely tries to make him less anxious by taking him in his arms & giving him raspberries in his neck or on his stomach. it helps take his mind off of whatever he was thinking about

— his son always wants to see him right after quinn’s games, which isn’t always possible so sometimes he has him join him for interviews. just quinns presence makes his son calm

KOOL KIRBY LORE

okay so here is the og post where I compiled his lore READ THAT FIRSTT

continued lore:

childhood:

his father leatherhead co-owned minotaurs pizza because he was married to the minotaur that owned it. Letherhead was then divorced by the minotaur and left to run minotaurs pizza. He was a complete mess after the divorce but that is when he adopted kirby from two shady gargoyles. Leatherhead needed someone to love.

Kirby was raised in leatherheads house which was on the outskirts of the city, away from humans and the bright lights and loud noises. only leatherhead and kirby lived there.

Kirby struggled with spelling/reading (dyslexia) speaking at yokai school. He was something of a trouble child in school, teachers did not lnow how to deal with him. So he stopped going around 5th-6th grade. Since leatherhead didnt freak with the hidden city, they only really went down there for school. Kirby was “homeschooled” from then on but there wasnt much schooling going on. He mostly spent his time watching movies and The Amazing Race with his dad or rollerblading.

teenager times:

Kirby started working at minotaurs once he was old enough. that didnt last long though because he “wasnt good with the customers”. (he kept getting mad at the customers when they didnt want the extra buttery pizza that leatherhead added to the menu just for him)

After they realized that job wasnt working out very well, Kirby went to work for Repo Mantis. Repo work helped kirby get better at confidently speaking. Repo had a soft spot for kirby. Kirby started wearing a pink bandana/mask because he read on the internet that pink was the most intimidating color (it wasnt, but he took the chance to wear more pink). He had also idolized a superhero when he was younger that wore a pink mask, so he emulated. Kirby still did work at the restaurant, it was a family business of course, but not as often.

post invasion still krangified:

Kirby stayed krangified for 2-3 months after the invasion. Leatherhead fell into depression much like he had before when he was divorced. Alrhough this one felt worse, it being his own son. … and some other things happend..

Both kirby and frida felt as though something or someone was missing. They both had a hamato connection that always linked them. Frida encountered kirby in his krangified form and had a hamato spidey sense that he was her missing piece. BM had ordered her to find and stop the krang mutants because they were scaring off customers. Frida couldnt hurt this krang. Frida told BM that it got away. 

The turtles had also made finding krang remnants their problem (since it wass their fault). The turtles(don) kept hearing about this one giant mutant krang(kirby) and were actively trying to seek him out. Once they found him it was a days work to catch him. 

what happened when they caught him: part 1, part 2

post krang:

After kirby recovers his vision fully after being dekrangified, he tries to get back on his feet. he has to find some clothes that will conceal his “scary” features and now stained pink marks. He wears black clothes when hes out and about. After seeing a news report warning citizens of him, he decided to wear a hood when he is near humans or other mutants/yokai. Although he is not around people that often so he rarely has his hood up.

Inspired by the lou jitsu ninja movies he used to watch with his dad, he tried to stick the shadows and fight for himself. He finds two butterfly swords in a DIFFERENT junk yard than repos. He now carries those things everywhere. just in case EPF or some other… green.. guys come and attack him or human try to kill him or etc.

Kirby now lives in a nearly fully collapsed apartment building. His only true entertainment is the radio he found that he can connect his (stolen) headphones to. He cant control the music, its whatever is on the radio, but its music nonetheless. He really misses rollerblading though. He is constantly on the lookout for rollerblades that would fit him, or he could tailor to fit him. Another hobbie of his is doing poor graffiti. He always thought it looked cool but he doesnt have to skills or coordination to do it well. He most often just scribbles for the fun of it. All until he runs out of materials, and then he steals stuff off of windowsills, out of dumpsters, and in junkyards if he can sneak into a human one undetected.

Raph finds him on a solo mission and follows him back to his place. Raph recognizes him from their encounter with him in his krangified form. After a few days debate with mind Raph, he approaches him, unsure of the outcome. Raph sees himself in kirby. He ends up trusting him due to their many similarities (and because raph figures that he may be the lost long brother splinter mentioned but he doesnt tell kirby that until later). They.. are homies trust me.

Kirby is introduced to other turtles

Venus has telepathy powers much like 2012 april (NOT my idea it was detti) and often tries to communicate to kirby in his dreams. She tries to tell him that shes his sister and that shes looking for him. Said dreams are so vivid kirby often cant stop thinking about them. Though her words are not as clear as she thinks. Her intended message is lost in translation if his dream. her face markings are carved into the back of his brain. These constant confused thoughts sometimes manifest into a venus sleep paralysis demon. That really shakes him up. Kirby venus reunion will not be fun for him.

esteemed trungles, i come with an important question. What is the best romcom to watch in winter?

ESTEEMED omg incredible. I don't think I've ever been esteemed before, so I'll do my best to live up to it.

SO I'm a little late on this question for Holiday rom-coms, but it's still winter here right now, and I love rom-coms. In no particular order:

The Holiday (2006) - Kate Winslet! Jack Black! Cameron Diaz! Jude Law! John Krasinski for some reason (he shows up for like three minutes)! Kathryn Hahn (also in the same scene as John Krasinski)! Also there's a little, itty-bitty A Knight's Tale reunion because Rufus Sewell shows up and so does Shannyn Sossamon, which I find to be very sweet. Jack Black is cute as Christmas and hot as breakfast in this movie, and he somehow did this straightforwardly sweet rom-com AND Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny in the same year. The man has RANGE. You get two romances in this movie, and I think the Kate Winslet one is much more of a high-budget Silver Screen romance while the Cameron Diaz one is much more a Hallmark Channel romance, which I think is great because I love both kinds of romances.

When Harry Met Sally (1989) - This movie is iconic, and I love it to bits. I always have it saved to my phone so I can watch it on literally every plane ride just in case I get stressed out. Meg Ryan is incredible in it as a neurotic and incredibly self-assured woman who develops a friendship with Billy Crystal's character over the course of about a dozen years. Bruno Kirby and Carrie Fisher play some hilarious supporting characters. This movie is also lovely in that the most dramatic character arc belongs to the male love interest. Like, yes, Meg Ryan's character also grows, but there's no change to her world view or her wants and desires because she's not hurting anyone with the way she navigates those things, and Billy Crystal's character grows into someone you could imagine having lunch with, a far cry from when we first meet him. It's also very well-written. I downloaded the script just so I could pick it apart and learn from it.

Single All the Way (2021) - KATHY NAJIMY AND JENNIFER COOLIDGE ARE BOTH IN THIS MOVIE. I don't know what I was expecting, but this holiday rom-com charmed the thermal socks off me. Michael Urie and Philemon Chambers play best friends who fake a relationship so Michael's family will stop badgering him about there being no romance in his life. It's a fake dating movie, and it is also a delightful subversion of the Hallmark romance. Michael Urie escapes his big city life back to his small hometown where he meets an extremely hunky local spinning instructor (lol) played by Luke McFarlane, who is a literal mainstay of many actual, literal Hallmark romance movies. It's great. I enjoyed it immensely.

Moonstruck (1987) - Cher and Nicolas Cage star in this movie, and it's sort of difficult to describe. It's very funny, and it's heightened by how every single actor plays their character with the seriousness of a prestige drama. Olympia Dukakis and John Mahoney are also in this, and they're both delightful. I still occasionally yell, "I lost my hand! I lost my bride!!!" out loud at random intervals in the year. Keeps my loved ones on their toes.

While You Were Sleeping (1995) - This movie is a charmer and a half! Sandra Bullock stars as a lonely woman who works at the L in Chicago who falls in love with one of the passengers. One day, he falls victim to an attempted mugging and falls onto the tracks. Our heroine saves his life, but he winds up in a coma. A series of misunderstandings leads his entire family to believe that she's his fiancée, and polite shenanigans ensue (except in the case of one testicle-inspection, which might be regarded as pretty impolite, but it's very sweet in context). I also find Bill Pullman extremely blandsome and regular-looking to the point of being sincerely erotic. I don't know how this happened.

And I think that covers my wintry rom-coms! I watch all of them year-round, but these ones all vaguely take place in the winter-time and sometimes have a little bit to do with the holidays season.

I've been seeing mentions of Doom getting white-washed for the fourth time: Fantastic Four (1994) - Joseph Culp, Fantastic Four (2005-2007) - Julian McMahon, Fantastic Four (2015) - Toby Kebbell, and the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday (2026), Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) - Robert Downey Jr. I wanted to share Mr. Culp's interview on his performance Dr. Doom in the Fantastic Four movie, whose budget was 2 million dollars. He realized the responsibility he had as the first time any actor was going to play Dr. Doom on screen, and gave the comic books their due, investing in Victor's backstory not mentioned in the script, including his Romani background and the loss of his mother, Cynthia von Doom. That background ties directly into the persecution which Victor and his family faced in his country driving his need for power and control and to fulfill his destiny as ruler. It makes him DR. DOOM. Three decades later and the Marvel Cinematic Universe with its 80 million dollar salary to a stunt casting that white-washes and subsumes Dr. Doom's character with Iron Man's actor and its associations is an insult. Joseph Culp put an operatic, Shakespearean take on Doctor Doom and carried him with the gravitas due, as well as knowing how important his relationship to Reed Richards is--that of a wounded lover.

INTERVIEW WITH JOSEPH CULP FOR FANSITE VICTORVONDOOM.COM by Joshua Hicks (2008) First off your performance as both Victor and Doctor Doom felt very genuine. What type of preparation did you do for the film? After I was cast in the role, I started by going back through all the issues of Doom in the comic books and I realized just how important a task this was. This would be the first time any actor was going to play Dr. Doom on screen, so I got more excited and also realized what a responsibility I had to try to do something that would honor the glory and grandeur of the character. There were limitations of time and budget, and so much came down to what I could do without special effects. . I definitely wanted to capture his classical style, the villainous "panache", in his voice and physicality, but I also wanted to know what kind of inner life drove him. Doom is right up there with some of the classic archetypal villains who are filled with contradictions: The gifts of genius, the lust for control and power, but the desire to be loved. I invested a lot in Victor's backstory, even if it wasn't mentioned in the script. The loss of his g---- mother, the desire to contact her through mystic arts, the need to fulfill a destiny as the rightful ruler of his country. I wanted to show in the beginning scenes with Reed, that he had a softer side and even valued the friendship, which later his madness transformed to bitterness and feelings of betrayal. Not all these ideas are supported by the comic, but I felt they would give a fuller human picture. I wanted to try to bring out some of his pain and suffering even as he pursued power and the destruction of others. I also saw a wicked sense of humor in the comics, (as is befitting a tortured genius!), so I wanted to give him moments to tease, be sarcastic and enjoy his power, reveling in some moments of explosive mad laughter. But if you listen, the laughter is also full of rage and sorrow as well. In preparation, I remember spending some time in a ski-mask to see what feelings would emerge from living in a "mask" and armor. The sense of affliction, imprisonment, of not being truly seen, and also permission and power. Lots of improvisation, physical and vocal exercises and finding my own personal link to the extreme qualities of this character.

This never-before-published drawing of Doctor Doom reveals that the vain villain wore a mask to hide just one tiny scar. Doom was for me an operatic dip into my own latent sadomasochistic tendencies," says the intense actor. And Joseph Culp means it. When pressed to talk a little about his personal life, he refers to himself as one of Doom's "impersonators." Culp, who grew up in California, had starring roles in Dream Lover and Monte Hellman's Iguana. However, his role of Doctor Doom is one that he takes very seriously. "As a kid, the FF was probably the only comic I really cared about." In this journalist's opinion, genre actors are not as appreciated as dramatic actors. In science fiction, fantasy and horror, the actors are expected to bring believability to unbelievable characters and impossible situations. There was no doubt in Culp's mind that he was up to the task. "I have some Shakespearean training. Doom is a very operatic character, a glorious tyrant king. This was a very challenging role because I was incarcerated in an iron suit most of the time, which was very grueling, frustrating and maddening." Does Culp have any interesting body scars himself? "I got a scar on the crook of my left leg from wearing the suit. It dug into me suppose my motivation could have been brought on by actual pain during the performance." Doctor Doom has never been unmasked in the comics. However, Jack Kirby's interpretation of the face behind the iron mask is that Victor Von Doom hides only one tiny facial scar because he is so vain. Culp offers his own insight. "Doom is a narcissist to the extreme. I believe he is completely scarred and mutilated. Being such a brilliant scientist, he could certainly reconstruct his face. But he chose to keep his scars as a living testament to his vengeance on the world and, specifically, Reed Richards.

So there's a lot of jealousy involved in his relationship. I think that deep down he actually loves Reed Richards. The person you love the most is the one you hate the most. Doom's inner sorrow and frustration-a kind of unbridled psychotic rage-propels him to do the things he does." Culp ends our conversation with a very serious diatribe on the depths of the demented Doctor. "Remember that Doom is all that we wish to be and all that we cannot face. From the depths of our fear he is the towering Freudian id. With Doom you really can't go too far. He's a raging ego and a wounded lover."

One of the most brutal Golden Age Batman stories is this bleak entry from WORLD'S FINEST COMICS #34, an atypically dark tale by Edmond Hamilton and Dick Sprang, about the rise and fall of a ruthless hired killer. Unusually, the story begins by revealing that the killer is already dead, an unidentified body on a slab in the morgue, and flashes back to his earlier life:

Even if you're willing to allow that Durfee's love of guns "should have been normal and healthy," the sadism and sociopathy on display here doesn't speak highly of the parenting skills of Jim's father. Yikes.

If you watch a lot of older film noir, this flashback sequence might seem somewhat familiar. I'm reasonably certain that it was inspired by a 1940 MacKinlay Kantor short story called "Gun Crazy," originally published in THE SATURDAY EVENING POST. About a year and a half after this story was published, Kantor and screenwriter Dalton Trumbo adapted "Gun Crazy" into the screenplay for a movie of the same title, directed by Joseph H. Lewis and released by United Artists in early 1950. "Gun Crazy" is also the story of a young man (called Nelson Tare in the original story) whose love of guns eventually leads to his destruction, although both the story and the film present their protagonist in a more sympathetic light than Hamilton does. As we soon see, Durfee is a monster:

Durfee decides to offer his services as a hired killer to gangster Pete Goro, being careful not to let Goro know his real name or even what he looks like. After completing several jobs for this new client, Durfee accepts a thousand dollars from another gangster to kill Goro, although to maintain his reputation, he still carries out his last commission for Goro: killing Gotham district attorney Tim Logan. Meanwhile, Batman, who has learned how Durfee's potential clients contact him, but nothing that would identify the killer, attempts to lure Durfee into the open by anonymously hiring him to kill Bruce Wayne!

Batman and Robin are unsuccessful in capturing the wily assassin, but when Durfee realizes that he's failed to kill Bruce Wayne, his pride leads him to try again on the grounds of the newly opened county fair. Batman manages to decoy him with a Bruce Wayne dummy, but Durfee knocks Batman momentarily senseless with the wooden stock of his gun and loses himself in the crowd. Then:

So, Durfee is finally shot dead by a random cop who has no idea who he is, for a crime he hasn't actually committed. He then ends up buried in an anonymous grave, and even Batman never knows his real name. A very grim drama indeed, and a story that seems more suited to the gritty crime comics of the period, like CRIME DOES NOT PAY or Simon & Kirby's JUSTICE TRAPS THE GUILTY for Prize, than the relatively sedate WORLD'S FINEST. Did you ever see that movie with Vanessa Kirby and Katherine Waterson, The World To Come? I’m seeing those vibes, but like…it could go several ways.

One way it could go is that Kate is traveling with her parents/family while Yelena is traveling with her husband. Of course Kate catches some suss activity between them one night when she wakes to pee and is creeping around the campsite, wherein said husband beats Yelena and she’s stone cold/turns the other cheek defiantly, which you know, shouldn’t Do Things to Kate, but it kind of does because it’s something she’s just not used to seeing…so she sneaks back to her wagon and has to squeeze in between her siblings (one of which will inevitably die on the journey RIP little baby Frederick) and tries to go back to sleep but now she can’t stop thinking about the other woman and also what the actual fuck is happening to her, why is she feeling so hot all of a sudden??? Anyway, as the days carry on, Kate starts to watch them more closely and can’t help but notice they aren’t like the other couples traveling. She starts trying to sort of not-so-subtly step in and Yelena is like, if you know what’s good for you, you’ll back the fuck off bitch, you’re going to get yourself killed. He isn’t somebody to mess around with. If you could see the scars on my body, you would know. So naturally, fighting and flirting and sneaking around shenanigans ensue until Kate accidentally kills Yel’s husband in an effort to try and defend/protect Yelena, and it becomes An Issue because of messy reasons. But this also completely shifts the way Yelena views little miss Katherine Bishop because until now she’d thought little of her except how spoiled and innocent she seemed.

The other route is that Kate is married to a man and Yelena has bought her passage West as a helping hand to the pair…lots of livestock, that kind of thing. Kate is, of course, inexplicably attracted to Yelena as she watches her driving the oxen or making bullets or whatever else they’ve got to take care of because we know that women who were a part of the wagon train often had to step outside the bounds of what was considered “traditional” domestic affairs for the sake of survival AND DAMN IT ALL if this woman can’t give any man a run for his money, which has Kate going absolutely feral. Like one of the oxen breaks a leg while getting the wagon over a rough patch of ground, and not only does she put it out if it’s misery, she steps in and pulls the fucking wagon out from where it’s gotten stuck. Picture Yelena with a human yoke absolutely hauling ass with buckets of water and not a drop is lost because she might be strong like bull but she’s also delicate as fuck when she needs to be. (*cough* Kates about to find out just how delicate she can be…and not be *cough*) Anyway. She absolutely breaks Katherine’s brain. Then one night Yelena saves Kate’s life by shooting a coyote or wolf or something that’s about to attack her, after Yelena has already told Kate like one million times that’s it’s a bad idea to go out walking alone in the dark 🤷‍♀️ and Kate’s just like “oops…think you could reach me how to use that gun??” And Yelena just rolls her eyes and is like you’re going to get killed if I don’t, aren’t you? but BUT halfway through the journey, Kate’s husband dies of dysentery and now they’re traveling alone…except it’s totally within reason that Kate would become the head of house, because Wagon Train Rules…did this just become a domestic partnership? Well, it’s not *not* that.

In either case, Yelena has A History and maybe it involves murder, maybe it doesn’t, but either way, she’s leaving the life she had on the east coast to find her sister, Natasha, whose last known whereabouts was a cathouse called the red room. Katherine Bishop is just along for the ride and didn’t really want to be there at all until she met Yelena. Now she finds herself oddly invested in making it West.

Boom. I don’t care if anyone else is into this, I’m frothing. I’ll be here for the next several days…sorry I went a little overboard there.

hell yeah i love to talk about cannibalism <3 this is gonna be long so ill put it under the cut

i have a few different thoughts on cannibalism as a concept: how cannibalism can be used in the mourning process, as well as how cannibalism is used in relation to gender, cannibalism as dominance, and cannibalism as love. nbc’s hannibal, which was what initially made me begin to think about cannibalism as a motif, explores cannibalism as mourning, cannibalism as dominance, and cannibalism as love.

*disclaimer* that this is not a hannibal meta, im using hannibal to organize my thoughts on a topic i think can be applied to a lot of different media. hannibal also doesnt really include the cannibalism as gender Thing, so ill save that for last and use movies like raw (2016) to organize my thoughts on that.

hannibal lecter, as a child, eats his sister after shes been killed as a way to mourn her and keep her spirit with him (i will say i am using the tv show’s interpretation of those events, in the books she is fed to him without his knowledge. i prefer the show). now, i am a big supporter of people like caitlin doughty, who encourage people to explore alternative burial and memorial processes for their loved ones, because embalming and those anti-decay caskets are not only bad for the environment, but theyre bad for our ability to make peace with and celebrate those who have passed. caitlin is a big proponent of the family being included in the post-deatn process and burial, and so am i! and i think that eating a loved one after death, if its known that the loved one would have wanted that, has the capacity to be simply another form of burial, no different from keeping an urn of someones ashes on the mantle. the idea of our loved ones whove passed away being cooked and consumed by those they loved most in life, sustaining them and keeping them alive, is pretty beautiful to me.

cannibalism as grieving was only hannibals introduction to cannibalism, however, and its reserved only for mischa. im not positive the exact turn of events with the men responsible for mischa’s death, but i think its sort of widely accepted that he hunted them down and ate them as well. the rest of his life until he meets will is spent killing and eating only as an act of dominance. from indigenous mythologies to the video game character kirby, eating someone/something and thereby gaining their power is a fairly common employment of the concept of cannibalism. but in hannibal, he kills and eats people he believes to be lesser than him, mere cattle to his godlike stature. and he proves this, again and again, by killing, publicly humiliating, and eating them. humans are at the top of the food chain, we have no natural predators, except ourselves. what better way to prove yourself as above the rest of humanity than to put yourself above them on the food chain?

this, of course, brings us to cannibalism as love. hannibal and will are equals. that is the most important thing one needs to understand in order to understand their relationship. hannibal, whose brain works on an entirely different level than the rest of humanity’s, which made it easy for him to put himself on top of humanity in every sense, has met a man whose brain also works on an entirely different level than the rest of humanity. and he falls in love. when you love someone that completely, it can be hard to know how to express it, especially when no one has ever come close to affecting you as much. consumption of the lover can be taken back to cannibalism as grief, loving someone so much you want to carry them inside you forever. lust is often described as a hunger, as explored in ginger snaps (2000), when a teenage girl gets her first period and bitten by a werewolf on the same night, she explains how she thought the hunger she felt was for sex, but it’s really just to tear everything apart. and, im so sorry to bring up supernatural, but in one of my favorite episodes, the horseman of the apocalypse, famine, makes it so a young couple is so starved for each other that they eat chunks out of each other as theyre having sex. not to be that girl, but the idea of being wanted so badly that there is no way to express ones desire other than consumption is pretty romantic.

cannibalism in relation to gender is probably my favorite use of cannibalism in media. ill say now before i get into it that i am a cis woman, and womanhood and femininity are both deeply important to me, but i am not exclusive about who is included in either of those. everything i am about to say is including of trans women, and i think there should be more media where explicitly trans women get to be cannibals too <3 anyway. in raw (2016), a girl whos been vegetarian her whole life goes to vet school, is forced to eat meat, and starts craving human flesh. it and ginger snaps (2000) follow a similar format, of teenage girls’ coming of age through the lens of hunger and fear of oneself. justine, the protagonist in raw, is shown to have an extremely controlling mother and a fairly apathetic father. it isnt deeply explored, but its fairly obvious that shes had a sheltered life. i think this is something a lot of women can relate to, as theres an inherent societal pressure on all women to come off a certain way, to want certain things. that pressure is so extreme on some, that when it’s finally released, the resulting freedom is explosive. outside of her parents control and coming into her burgeoning womanhood and sexuality, justine is hungry for everything shes never had before. her sister is even more monstrous than she is, having been older and not having someone she could relate to at the school to anchor herself to humanity. even their mother, the strict, overbearing vegetarian, is starving. her husband loves her so much he allows her to eat bites out of him to sustain herself.

in jennifers body (2009), jennifer is a beautiful object to everyone around her. she uses this to her advantage, even seems to enjoy the attention, but making peace with your own objectification does not mean you would choose it if youd had a choice at all. this all culminates when a band she’d set her sights on sacrifices her to the devil to bring themselves fame and fortune. this itself is proof that she doesnt really have any control over her own life, because the only thing shes used to reclaim her power, seducing men, has proven to be her downfall. but, killing her proves to be a release of the pressure she was under, because she comes back from the dead and begins killing and eating men to sustain her own power. its not exactly subtle, but it is both cannibalism as dominance and cannibalism as a woman being put in charge of her own life for the first time.

i could spend hours picking apart each movie it think explores these concepts, but i think ive made my point. of course, in both these movies, these womens’ hunger ends up controlling them, instead of vice versa. justines sister, having lost her humanity altogether, ends up in jail after killing justines roommate and crush. the only way to stop the demon inside jennifer is a knife to the heart from her best friend. so where does that leave us? justine and her mom both find ways to minimize their damage, but that is just reinforcing the pressure that caused all of this. how does one quell a hunger thats been building your whole life? do you sacrafice your humanity altogether? what has humanity done for you, as a woman, anyway? wouldnt it be better to eat rather than be eaten? i just think its interesting! and i promise im like. 99% not going become a cannibal for real. unless like a hot girl wants me to. then maybe. idk

For reference, the movies/franchises I'm talking about are:

The Marvel franchise. Marvel comics is entirely built off of Jack Kirby's back, having brought them into the spotlight by making Captain America (with Joe Simon) and having redefined their artstyle and narrative themes in the 60s. That carries forward to their related film projects as well. But adding to that, he created the Hulk, Peggy Carter, Nick Fury, the Avengers as a team, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Peggy Carter, Black Panther, the Eternals and Celestials, the Inhumans, the Kree, the Skrulls, plus the Golden Age Vision; and co-created Iron Man, Marvel Thor, Groot, and Ant-Man. Outside of MCU characters, he created the Fantastic Four, most of their supporting cast, the original X-Men (Prof X, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Beast, Iceman, Angel) and Magneto.

The DC franchise. Kirby's work at DC was more limited in scope but no less influential. His Fourth World stories have been the foundation of DC's cosmology for some time, and that extends into the movies, both by its continued influence on the DC multiverse and explicitly through Apokolips being the enemy in Justice League.

And the Star Wars franchise, both the most original franchise on the list, and the one with the most interesting visuals. (For the original trilogy, at the very least.) This one is indirect but still worth mentioning, I feel. Darth Vader draws visual inspiration from Doctor Doom, to the extent that when Mark Hamill first saw him he commented on the similarity. Vader's hidden relationship with Luke also echoes the relationship between Darkseid and Orion of the New Gods. Also, to me, Vader unmasked in his death scene looks very similar to Darkseid's design, but I might be drawing too many lines there.

Thinking (again) about how Jack Kirby is either reaponsible, or a major influence, for like a quarter of the highest-grossing films ever made and three of the top ten franchises. But none of them (at least, ones released in the last 20 years) actually take any influence from his art style!

The colors are muted, even with more recent Marvel offering trying to be brighter. The designs are somehow more detailed and far less dynamic. Silhouettes are smoothed over, things like Cap or Thor's helmet wings turned into decals because a form-fitting suit is easier to CG.

A Kirby design has strong features, blocked out in groups of vividly defined colors; where cinematic franchise designs nowadays stick closer to a monochrome, or desaturate to lower the contrast. The auxiliary colors, if they're kept at all, are reduced to accents running through a mesh of piping and plating.

That's not to say Kirby's designs are flat though, far from it, take a look at Cap's chainmail. In his rare monochromatic characters, he adds a very tangible texture. His Black Panther has this chunky-knit ribbing in his boots and gloves, and The Thing is like the most textured guy ever. But in the modern designs, the texture is meant to be overlooked, to help your eyes pass over the costume without being distracted by it. Whereas Kirby's texture doesn't just want to be seen, it wants to be FELT!

You woke up with a terrible headache and it had just gotten worse as the day went on and your coworkers weren’t helping. It seemed every single time you turned around someone needed something and you ended up getting none of your own work done. And on the way home traffic was terrible and to add on it started raining. So by the time you got home you were just ready to crawl in bed and stay there for the next week.

When you walked in the front door and saw the guys on the couch playing video games and you could tell they were invested in the game so you just mumbled a quick hello and then went upstairs to Adam’s room. You could go to your room but Adam’s room was cozier. Or at least that’s what you told yourself. The first thing you do when you walk in the room is change into some of Adam’s sweats and one of his hoodies before turning the lights off and crawling under the covers. Before you could even settle fully there was a soft knock at the door before it was opened and you heard someone shuffle across the floor before feeling the bed dip and a hand on top of your resting form.

“Hey are you okay?” At the sound of Adam’s soft voice you poked your head out of the covers to meet his eyes. You couldn’t even get the words out and you just shook your head as tears welled up in your eyes.

“Oh älskling come here.” He said, moving closer to you and opening his arms so you could crawl into them. When you were tucked into his side he pressed a kiss to the top of your head. “When you’re ready tell me what’s wrong so I can help.”

When you had calmed down enough to tell him what had happened he wiped your tears away as he listened. And when you were done he kissed you forehead before getting up and walking out the door. You would question him but your headache had gotten even worse after crying, so you just laid down and pulled the covers up over your head again.

A few minutes later you heard him walk into the room.

“Hey kärlek, I’m gonna need you to sit up and take this.” He said softly though as to not make your headache worse.

You sat up and took the glass of water and the Exedrin from him before quickly swallowing the pill and following it with the water.

“Do you feel any better?”

“Adam, bud I just took it they don’t work that fast.”

“Oh yeah right sorry.” He responded sheepishly.

“No you’re good, thank you for the water and the medicine. You can go back to playing games with the boys.”

“What, no? Why would I leave,” he said with a frown, “You’re not feeling well so I’m gonna stay up here and cuddle you cause you need cuddles. And I’m not taking no for an answer.”

You went to argue but he just gave you a look and you shut your mouth and rolled your eyes before laying back down. Once you were settled under the covers you look up at Adam, expecting him to be getting in bed with you.

“I’m gonna change into sweats so I’m more comfortable.” He said before promptly standing up and starting to undress. Which while it wasn’t unusual that he did something like that, lately you were finding yourself looking away so you wouldn’t get caught starring.

Once Adam was done he crawled under the covers next to you and pulled you back into his bare chest. Your face heated at the motion, though you had no idea why. You had cuddled with him many times but maybe it’s because for some reason this time felt different. But at the moment you couldn’t find it in yourself to care, you had a warm Adam behind you that was kind enough to take care of you and leave his friends to keep you company, and you were going to take advantageous that. So you snuggled further under the covers and into Adam’s chest and fell asleep moments later; missing the kiss Adam pressed to your temple before tightening his arms around you.

When you woke up a little while later, Adam was gone. In his place there was instead Burt and Ralph. You rolled over to check your phone to see a message from Adam saying he was picking up dinner and would be back in a little bit. So you texted back an “okay” before continuing to go through your missed notifications.

You were getting restless and you felt better so you decided to go downstairs. When you got down there Kirby and Alex were still playing video games and Lyndsey was watching something on her phone so you decided to go sit on the couch by her. You grabbed the blanket from the back of the couch and curled up under it, your head felt foggy and closing your eyes made it better.

You didn’t mean to fall asleep, but you had. This time you woke up to Adam crouched in front of you, his hand on your knee and his soft voice coaxing you to wake up and eat. When he saw your eyes were open, he stood and reached his hands out for you to grab. He pulled you up and gestured for you to go ahead of him to the kitchen. You got to the island where the food was sitting. Before you could start digging in like everyone else, you felt someone tap your shoulder so you turned. And found Adam standing there with a suspicious smile on his face before he pulled flowers out from behind his back. Your favorite flowers to be exact.

“I thought you could use a pick me up and I saw these and I knew they were your favorite so I got them for you.” He said handing you the flowers.

You grab them from him and set them on the counter before turning back to him and pulling him into a hug. Tucking your face into his neck you mumbled a “thank you” and he squeezed you closer to him. You both stay like that for a minute before

“Are you two gonna eat or just gonna stand there?” Came Kirby’s voice from behind you.

Adam and you both immediately let go of each other. Adam went to the food and you picked up the flowers and smelled them before going over to the cabinet to look for a vase. The only vase you could find was on the top shelf. You were seconds away from climbing on the counter to grab it, when you felt a hand on your lower back and a tattooed arm reached past you and grabbed the vase from the shelf and set it on the counter. Adam pressed a kiss to the side of your head then went back to get his food. You had to stop yourself from thinking he was trying to tell you something. You knew it was just because he knew you weren’t feeling well, nothing more. You pushed the thought about how he only did this for you to the back of your brain, not letting yourself go down that rabbit hole.

It was a little while later when you all were done with food and watching a movie in the living room. You were sitting in between Adam and Kirby. Ralph was curled up next to you and you were mindlessly petting him as you watched the movie and tried to keep sleep at bay once more. Adam got up to go do something in the kitchen and Burt followed him in hopes of getting food. You were once again failing at staying awake and your head dropped to Kirby’s shoulder and he pulled you close so you were cuddled up to him. Which you in no way minded since he was a human space heater. You causing Alex’s eye and he gave you a look that you didn’t even want to begin to decipher and shook your head, going back to watching whatever dumb movie this was.

“I leave for one minute to go get you water and exederin and you chose to cuddle him? I’m hurt” you opened your eyes to find Adam standing at the doorway of the room with a slight frown on his face.

“You left I can’t cuddle you from another room.” You responded, your sentence almost getting cut short from a yawn escaping.

“Well I’m back now so cuddle me and not him. After you take the medicine though.” Adam said as he sat back down after setting the glass on the coffee table in front of you and handing the pill to you after you sat up.

Once you had taken the medicine and drank some water, you shifted so you could curl into Adam’s side, legs tangling without a second thought. He grabbed the blanket from the back of the couch and settled it over the top of you both. You heard Kirby mumble something that sounded like “whipped” before Adam moved under you and you heard a soft “ow” from Kirby a second later. You assumed Adam hit Kirby but at the moment you only cared about the sleep that was tugging your eyelids down once more.

You woke up to someone carrying you up the stairs. When you opened your eyes Adam happened to look down and find you looking up at him.

“Hey you can go back to sleep, I was just gonna take you up to my room so you could sleep more comfortably.”

“Your room hmm?” You questioned with a smile.

“Well yeah, you always say my best is more comfortable than yours. Plus I sleep better next to you.” He said the last part nonchalantly as if it didn’t make your heart flutter.

When he made it to his room he walked over to the bed and gently set you down before moving to the bathroom to get ready for bed. You looked at where he was standing at the bathroom counter, brushing his teeth. It was as if your body moved in its own account when you got up to stand behind him and wrapped your arms around him.

“Thank you for taking care of me today. You didn’t have to.” Your voice muffled from how your face was pressed into his back. He turned around before wrapping his arms around you.

“I know I didn’t have to, but I wanted to. I love you and I hate it when you’re not feeling well.” He responded.

You quickly pulled back and looked up at him. You both have said you loved the other before, but only when you were drunk.

“You love me?”

“Of course I love you, I thought you knew.”

“If I had know I would’ve told you I loved you too a long time ago.” You chuckled, moving forward to wrap your arms around him once more. Adam broke the silence with his giggles.

“What are you laughing at you dork?”

“Well I love you and you love me so that means I can do this.” He said before leaning down and pressing his lips to yours. When you pulled away you both had big smiles on your faces. And then you yawned.

“Way to ruin the moment there babe.” You hated to admit it but your heart fluttered at the pet name.

“Well sorry I’m tired, but my boyfriend is keeping me from going to bed.” Was your response as you looked up at him with a big smile.

“Boyfriend huh?” Was the only thing he said before picking you up and walking back into the room before dropping you on the bed.

“Yeah boyfriend.” You said as he crawled into bed next to you. You leaned over to kiss him one more time before curling up against him and falling asleep.

You woke up before Adam the next morning. As you waited for him to wake up, you scrolled through your phone. It was about five minutes later when you got bored with that. So you set your phone aside and rolled back over to face Adam. He was sleeping peacefully as the the sun shined through the windows and onto his skin. You reached a hand up and started gently tracing the lines of his face. You knew he was awake when the corners of his mouth curled up.

“Mmm good morning.” He mumbled, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

“Morning sunshine.” You said with a smile before leaning over and pressing your lips to his. Before you could pull back his hand slid into your hair and held you there. He deepened the kiss as he moved to hover his body over yours. His free hand had just dipped under his your sweatshirt when his door opened.

“Finally! But also gross.” You heard Kirby say from the doorway as Adam let out a soft displeased groan at being interrupted. He turned his head to look at his best friend.

“Is there something you need or are you just gonna stand there and watch us?”

“Hey!” You said as you whacked his arm.

“I was joking babe. It’s not like I’d wanna share anyway.”

“Well,” Kirby interjected before you could say anything else, “ I was coming up here to wake you both up for breakfast but it seems like you two are busy so I’ll just leave ya to it.” He winked and shut the door.

Adam turned back to look at you and leaned down to press a kiss to your forehead.

“You’re so beautiful.” He mumbled as his hand cupped your cheek.

You turned your head to press a kiss to his palm.

“I love you.”

“I love you too älskling.” He said as he pecked your lips once more.

“I KNEW IT!!! ALEX THEY SAID THEY LOVE EACH OTHER, THEY’RE FINALLY DATING!!” You heard Kirby yell from the other side of the door.

“Oh my Godd.” Adam mumbled as he dropped his weight into you and tucked his face into your neck. You smiled as you ran your hand through his hair. Yeah you could definitely get used to this.

Superhero AU Headcanons (Brothers)

All the characters are in a superhero league working to keep the world safe. Diavolo leads the group and MC is a fledgling hero, who basically learns the ropes by being the sidekick to the current heroes. All super powered beings have above normal human strength, speed, and endurance but each have their own unique power/s.

Lucifer

He controls and creates black fire. Seems kinda boring but he’s very efficient and deadly

Produces six flaming wings when he wants to be intimidating or when he loses his temper, which isn’t often

Flames can melt through virtually anything it touches

Likes to keep his fights short and sweet. Also tries to do the least amount of damages only because he ends up doing the paperwork for all damages incurred on the city/town/country

Flaming black sword is his go to weapon of choice though if he’s not in the mood to fight, he’ll just rain down fire balls

Can also summon Cerberus to fight for him. Though bringing out a giant demon dog for battle usually causes more damage than not

Mammon

Ability to create an inanimate object with just a thought and snap of his fingers. However objects are always made of gold and usually encrusted with valuable gemstones. He can also make said object disappear

Will and has abused his powers for poker and other gambling games. Lucifer does not approve but that doesn’t stop Mammon

Once created a solid gold armor tank to fall on an enemy. It was decorated with rubies and could shoot diamonds the size of a grown man’s fist

When he likes someone he definitely uses his powers to give them gifts, but won’t hesitate to make them go away if they hurt him or he has a falling out

The gold on the items he creates are actually not regular gold and can withstand a lot of force without scratching let alone breaking. Many scientists have studied the objects but can’t figure out what they are

Has the ability to summon a flock of crows though he usually doesn’t use it for battle. Rather he’ll summon them as a distraction to escape enemies or Lucifer’s wrath, though the latter has happened more often than not

Leviathan

Has the ability to control electronics he touches and create electricity from them. However he doesn’t fight often and will do recon/hacking if needed

Always carries a handheld gaming device with him and his headphones

Levi “communicates” with the electronics and is able to get them to do whatever he needs

Creating electricity is a last resort as it usually drains the electronics completely leaving him defenseless if the enemy can’t be taken down with a shock

When he gets angry he sometimes causes things to overload and explode. A lot of tvs and computers have had to be replaced, which Lucifer does not like because the funds come from the league

Like Mammon and Lucifer, Levi can summon Lotan for battle if he needs. However this usually results in flooding the surrounding area and lots of damages. Lucifer forbids him from doing it unless he’s in the middle of nowhere or the ocean. Can also summon Henry, but he’s just a fish in a fish bowl that brings Levi comfort

Satan

Has the ability to create green fire but can’t control it very well and can read people’s minds. The smoke from the flames are toxic, especially to regular people. To other super powered beings, it causes nausea and dizziness, and if inhaled for too long, internal bleeding. Always wears a gas mask just in case; he got sick on his own smoke once

Usually fights alone or has his teammates fight at a distance. Whenever they do have to fight close, they always have a gas mask ready

Keeps his anger under wraps because it can cause things to spontaneously combust around him. Has set part of the HQ on fire a few times in the past

His room is specially made to be flame retardant as he doesn’t want his books to get ruined

Usually causes a lot of damages though not on purpose. Since he has trouble controlling his flames, they have a tendency to get out of control. Lucifer has to use his own fire to smother his green flames if need be

His mind reading doesn’t really come in use in battle but can be used during interrogation to pick for information. Satan is also very good at being scary during interrogation using part scare tactic with his fire and part mind games

Asmodeus

Can shapeshift into anyone he has seen and can release pheromones that cause people to relax and stop fighting. Doesn’t fight often as he does infiltration missions the most

Enjoys learning people’s behaviors and ticks so he can imitate them better. Has even acted as someone else in a movie when the actor got sick during production. No one was the wiser

However Asmo prefers to be himself as often as he can, so he won’t take too many infiltration missions if he can help it. It can be tiring to be someone else for so long

Uses his pheromones to gently coax information out of people. He’s the gentler side of the interrogation and usually goes before Satan

Shapeshifts into the enemy while in battle to cause confusion before taking them out

Has used his powers to imitate his brothers. Mostly done it to Mammon for selling his limited edition makeup collection and takes revenge by doing something dumb while pretending to be Mammon that usually get the older one in trouble with Lucifer

Beelzebub

He’s the strongest of all super powered beings so far and can basically Kirby style inhale things into his mouth. His extra super power is his stomach of steel or so his brothers say

While most super powered people are stronger than the average human, Beel is stronger than the average super. Has lifted things 10x his own weight and size without trouble

Has inhaled bullets, a bomb, pure nuclear energy balls and has never had a problem digesting it much to the horror of his brothers and other heroes

Nicknamed him Blackhole Beel not that he really cares. Says whatever he inhales ends up as fuel/food for him

Sometimes isn’t careful with his strength and will knock down a few buildings in the process of punching an enemy. Probably the second most destructive after Satan. Lucifer can just feel the paperwork piling on his desk when he sees Beel send someone flying

Will often stop at a food place after a fight even if he happened to “eat” a lot of things during the battle

Belphegor

Can manifest someone’s dreams/nightmares into reality as long as he’s touched the person once. It might look like a hallucination, but the giant monster from your nightmares is real and will kill you if he says so

Usually just manifests people’s worst nightmares to do the fight for him. The sooner he’s done, the sooner he can go back to bed

Only brings people’s dreams to reality as a form of torture because he can take it all away in a second. He is sometimes used for interrogation in this way

Will never bring Asmo’s dreams to reality because they’re just...yeah he doesn’t like thinking about it

Will find ways to sleep in the middle of battle if he thinks the others can take care of it for him. However if an enemy happens to find him napping and interrupts him, they’re in for a world of pain

The slowest of the heroes but most enemies run away from him because they’ve seen the nightmares he’s brought to life. None of them want to see their own come true

A biased review of every Barbie movie, in no particular order

Starting with 2001's Barbie and the Nutcracker

The animation itself is a tad bit stiff and odd, but not necessarily bad in anyway, it is the first 3D Barbie movie. The characters move like dolls, which actually really fits with the movie. They also look like the dolls you'd have been able to find in stores. Some of the movement animations are a bit weird, like running animations and jumping.

The voicing is actually pretty good. Kelly Sheridan as Barbie/Clara, Tim Curry as the Mouse King, Kirby Morrow as the Nutcracker/Prince Eric. The voices all fit their respective characters quite well. Not very much to say about it.

The are a couple holes in the story of the movie. Clara and the Nutcracker find these 2 little kids, they take them in so they can find a safe place for them. While being chased by a fully armed troop of mice, the group is rescued by a camp of tree dwelling fugitives, chased out of their homes by the Mouse King's army. Given that the village the children were found it is the only village in that area we (the watchers) are aware of, it wouldn't be unjustified to assume that the kids should at least recognize the people that had fled. But apparently not.

Clara realized that the Nutcracker is, in fact, the prince, who is hiding his identity from everyone because he wasn't really a good prince in the peoples' eyes. Though, it wasn't really hard for her to figure it out.

Eric and Clara get a cute bonding scene together after setting free a swarm (idk what to call it) of fairies. The scene was cut short by a "rock giant" interrupting. The group, our main 2 accompanied by 2 from the camp, Major Mint and Captain Candy sled across a frozen ocean.. sea..? Lets go with large body of water, on a horse drawn sleigh. Eric stabs the ice with his sword and the Rock Giant falls right through.

Just as the group is about the give up and turn back, in fear of the ice melting before they make it to land, the horse sees something, inciting Clara to walk in that direction. Finding the island that they believe to be home to the Sugar Plum Princess.

Turns out it wasn't, Eric, Mint, and Candy got captured and brought back the the Mouse King's castle, leaving Clara stuck on the island. The fairies she helped free helped her back to the main land by carrying her on a swing made of, like, a single vine.

She find her 3 friends, frees them. They all go fight the Mouse King, Eric hits his wooden head while protecting Clara, she freaks out, thinking he's, like, actually hurt, giving him a kiss, he catches a case of the blue glowies, and turns back to the prince.

Major Mint, who genuinely didn't realize he was shit talking the prince TO HIS FACE is like

"The prince! e- ooo- the prince" Pulling his hat down to cover his face, realizing he was shit talking the prince TO HIS FACE. And I'm kind of living for it.

Clara takes human Eric's hand and SHE catches a case of the PINK glowies and BOOM! Fancy hair and dress.

Turns out she was the Sugar Plum Princess!

All the people the Mouse King (who had jumped into a sewer drain by this point) had turned to stone turned back from stone. Cheered for the prince, they all danced. Major Mint and Captain Candy danced together, I think there was some break dancing? Clara and Eric danced together. Everyone was happy.

Me during their dance, "Is... is his leg ok? I'm not sure legs are supposed to bend like that?"

The world is healed, everything returns to how it was before the Mouse King. They 2 finish their dance, everyone cheers for them. Eric asks Clara to stay with him, and be queen. She agrees, but the Mouse King steals her magic necklace, forcefully sending her home. Eric proclaims his love for her and she disappears. Probably traumatizing all the kids that were watching at the time.

But, worry not, the power of LOVE conquers all and Clara meets a King that was a friend of her Aunt. And everyone lived happily ever after.

Ok, but in all seriousness, it was a cute movie. I don't have the nostalgia many others do, and I was never a fan of Christmas movies when I was little. And It came out before I was born, so that may have also been a factor.

If you like Barbie and haven't seen this one, I recommend watching it.
