okay, promo: I am so excited for this bomber storyline, it seems more interesting than the first 4 episodes of the season (like, I loved the Carlos episode - 4x04 but like... eh)

so, I loved this episode, please tell me this is when the season picks up finally, I was finally engaged from the beginning until the end, and enjoyed all of it

I did miss Carlos, and he's my fave character, but also, like I mentioned a lot already, the tarlos storyline so far with Iris etc was so fucking boring and it took a lot of time in those first episodes (and it's crazy I'm even saying that because I always say to give Carlos all the screen time 😂) so it was nice to kinda have a break from them haha and I'm so glad we're over the whole FBI thing

now, I adore Grace and I loved her storyline this eps, it was great and interesting

I feel like Asha's gonna stick around and I'm excited if they're gonna do anything with her and Paul (or just fucking give Paul some more screen time ffs)

I loved that we got more of other dispatchers aside from Grace and please keep it up, I wanna know them like we know Josh and Sue and Linda, for them to be around you know? 😂

and Marjan.... I don't believe she left for good, and I don't wanna believe that, and I get her reasoning, because fuck those people, but also.... this was just so ridiculous, do people really get that offended over the word crazy? I know it's offensive or whatever but since when it's a slur? 😂

anyway, it was a great episode for Marjan, loved seeing her more and her struggle with this whole situation, and her and Owen actually have a great dynamic, wish we'd seen more of that (if they didn't give 90% of screen time to Owen alone 🙄 I like him but sometimes it's like.... there are people who are more interesting that I wanna find out about lol)

genuinely can't wait for the next one, and it's the first time this season I'm actually looking forward to the next episode, I hope it's gonna only get better now haha

gonna try and summarize my thoughts about this as best i can (they are not perfect thoughts by any means, more like thinking about my perceptions out loud, they may not be 100% correct.)

it's never quite surprised me that hazbin has attracted what seems to be a conservative (occasionally pro-cop) white crowd. idk how "big" that crowd really is within the fandom, but i've seen a fair handful of them online and irl.

the reason it never quite surprised me was that hazbin, despite being so self-insistently queer, still checks off a lot of conservative boxes. (everything i'm about to say is considering a conservative perspective, i'm not saying these things are true or viv's intent.)

there's the fact that, despite any attempt at coding, many of the characters are, or come off as, white, especially the ones that feel like we're supposed to sympathize with (Lucifer, Charlie, Angel Dust, even in Helluva Boss with characters like Stolas) or others that are simply fan-favorites like Alastor. or others still like Emily who we only know was supposed to be black from her audition sheet.

Alastor himself checks off several incel/insecure white man power-fantasy boxes that tend to overlap with conservatives. his 1920s/1940s aesthetic alone is something that insecure white men tend to adore (idk why but it should be studied lol), the fact he is a confident and powerful being that can seemingly do whatever he wants (such as slapping Vaggie on the ass in the pilot) just intensifies that adoration. (yes i'm aware he was "defeated" by Adam in the pilot, that was recent, i'm referring to the fandom that's grown since Hazbin's pilot release) which is largely why the image of the Alastor pin being on a Blue Lives Matter flag patch didn't shock me. he also hasn't been "held down" by any women (that we know of so far) and has no qualms pushing them around when he needs/wants to such as mocking both Vaggie and Charlie's misery in different episodes despite canonically being kinder to/preferring company of women. he's the "nice guy" but he still has and exercises power over others including women.

correct me if i forgot someone, but the fact just about every queer character we've seen so far is in hell. (Vaggie is from heaven yes, but wound up in hell, and her love for Charlie is called "vile and blasphemous" by Lute as well as sexualized by Adam's remark that their relationship is "hot as fuck.")

the fact that sexism is common in both Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel, such as a hefty handful of "women are bitches" tropes, especially if the women are sexual, while male characters more often get their sexuality rewarded. women character plots tend to depend on male characters. Charlie gets saved by her dad not once, but twice, in her big battle with Heaven and barely does any fighting, only landing two actual hits on Adam, one being while she's literally being held by her father. Millie has very little faults or personality outside of her relationship with Moxxie. there's even instances of belittling and ignoring the feelings of men or treating the men as lesser for being weak or emotional, or that their issues are something they need to "suck up" or "get over themselves."

frequent recognition of gender roles (mlm couples with clear heteronormative roles; one is Top one is Bottom, one is The Masc and one is The Fem, etc.) and here's the thing--all of us that are queer can easily read past the gender roles and accept the queer characters as they are, but unless a series expresses its queerness openly and clearly, it leaves the audience with the freedom to interpret it however they want. and tbf that's what's allowed series to express queerness w/o homophobes fully noticing in the past (where writers had to rely on queer-coding.) but they can still feel like they have some "power" over queer people with that coding especially if it's an interpretation they feel they can sexualize or laugh at. (which they will generally try to do even if a series doesn't give them an "in" to do it.)

like, yes, we know Angel Dust is (assumedly) GNC (despite Viv saying she thought it meant something else when she labeled Angel as such in the past)--but to a conservative viewer, with how Angel is portrayed in the series itself, he's just an effeminate gay man, a cross-dresser, the exact type of stereotype they both understand and punish. they may even feel Angel's abuse is justified, and enjoy seeing him get told by Husk he's just a "whiny bitch" which is reminiscent of conservative "suck it up" and "bootstrap" mentality.

and perhaps the least likely but still notable to me, is the demonization of addicts (as lowlifes who "choose" their poison) while being seemingly fine with alcoholism. conservatives love their alcohol (look how they reacted to a trans person doing an ad campaign with their beloved Bud Light.) in the series Husk can drink regularly without a second glance, and "drinks with friends after a hard day" is something the series seems to say is good. but Husk, and others, fiercely judge Angel for using drugs and being "some crack whore" who "isn't special."

phew. that's the best theorizing i've got, again i'm not saying any of this is like...a perfect or exact analysis, nor viv's intent, nor necessarily "true" to the series, these have just been my thoughts of how a conservative might interpret it.

none of this is to say anyone has to try and conservative-proof their queer writing. conservative queers do exist. i'm only trying to explain why it doesn't surprise me that there are conservatives in the fandom of what is supposed to be an unapologetically "queer" series.

hell, i can tell you i once knew a conservative who was homophobic, but he was fine with the obvious wlw relationships in Steven Universe simply bc, by his definition, the gems were "all women", so it "made sense" to him since they had "no other choices" in their species.

1) it will never happen but i want a romance storyline for thomas lol, the whole shebang: meet cute, random misunderstandings/obstacles, obstacle(s) is/are overcome, happy ending and a motherfucking KISS, honestly we have edith/bertie, mary/matthew, mary/henry, carson/hughes, andy/daisy, isobel/merton, anna/bates, all following this pattern and i WANT IT. i know it’s different with a movie and he can’t get the episodes-long arcs those couples got, but they could pull smth off. i think if it happened to be jimmy or phillip that would be nice but obviously not gonna happen as neither ed or charlie are included in the cast lol, and also like i said since for a movie it would have to be a condensed plot it’s probably for the best it won’t be jimmy bec that storyline would deserve much more nuance, sensitivity, care, and explanation than the limited screentime available in a single film could give

2) not to be a bitch but i want michael gregson to be alive sdfhdsiukhsdfiusdfkdsf like can you IMAGINE, jesus it would be so frustrating but so satisfying bec of course that would happen to edith lmaoooooooo also i want marigold to meet him??? idk i adore edith and bertie but i really liked michael. like picture edith and bertie and marigold sitting in their drawing room in their castle having tea and there’s a fire and it’s cute and cozy and then their butler comes in like “there’s a man downstairs m’lady, insisting on seeing you” and edith going “let him in Jives” (or whatever the butlers name is) and she looks at bertie and says “i wonder what on earth this is about” and the door opens and it’s MICHAEL GREGSON and we see edith’s shocked face and then it cuts to like, violet and isobel arguing about violet’s cook’s views on sheep farming or something

3) can tom branson be happy jesus christ like, his entire storyline has always revolved around other ppl, he always felt like a side character in his own plots ?????????? and then he’s just a vehicle for mary’s happiness or robert’s success or downton’s issues for mary/robert/tom to solve, so rarely is it ever about HIM and HIS happiness, even with bunting that was about riling robert up so it was something for him and cora to argue about and so daisy could get an education. i just want him to get some attention i love one (1) irish socialist (bonus points if the movie opens with him burning the Abbey down while holding bundles of marxist literature)

4) mary and barrow’s relationship in the movie should mirror robert and carson’s relationship throughout the series.... likewise george and barrow should mirror mary and carson’s...... like. carson isn’t butler anymore. and carson was In Strum Mental in the running of that household, not an episode goes by without robert or cora or mary or someone talking to carson, and barrow is butler now, his role, literally, needs to be bigger, and his relationship with the upstairs crew should be more clearly defined and featured. u can’t change my mind. also he’s so fucking adorable with george and sybbie. slightly related: i want thomas to mention sybil, anna said herself he knew her better than any of the downstairs crew and esp bec he’s close with sybil’s daughter i want that MENTIONED. thomas being Soft and Fond ??? sign me tf up

5) i can’t stand carson or robert and if they both make it thru the movie alive ima be pissed. they function in the narrative as ties to the pre-wwi world and it’s past time one or both of those misogynist fuckwads are dispensed with. like any time one of them is onscreen i’m just Die Die Die Die DIe. i HATE

6) i really want scenes of george, sybbie, and marigold together. they are the next generation of crawleys and i want them to kind of be together, the 3 of them, as a group, the way edith, mary, and sybil were in the first season. we had The Crawley Sisters as a group, now it’s time for The Crawley Cousins. i want all 3 of them to have their own personalities and teasing of each other the way mary edith sybil did. i know they’re only children and the movie only takes place 2 yrs after the s6 finale so they’re still very young, but it’s enough to lay the groundwork and plant suggestions abt how the 3 of them’s relationship will be. it would be adorable and satisyfing

7) now u all know i adore thomas and i want him to be happy and i really am thrilled he’s developed and isn’t just the one-dimensional antagonist he was in season 1, i’m happy he’s allowed himself to become a bit softer and has a found family that he finally feels at home with. WITH THAT SAID........... there is next to no tension among the downstairs characters anymore. we need someone to come in, rustle some feathers, have hideous hair ringlets..... if you’ve guessed Sarah O’Brien u’ve guessed right. now listen i know she’s awful but i think it could be great. imagine her waltzing in and basically being like s1 thomas, just snarking at everything. i bet she’d be all saccharine and fake like “so thomas you’re butler now that’s sooooo nice!!! and look at the bates’ baby, i’m soooo happy for you!!!” and no one believes her and she’s just sneaking around causing trouble. she’d probably get into it w baxter bec she’s so soft and nice, but when obrien tries to fuck w molesley or thomas baxter becomes this image:

god YES precisely. the point of no return. and it makes it even more bizarre because of the episode's placement in the season, imo. like this wasn't a finale ep, it's not a two-parter. we watch this and are just expected to move past it as if there wasn't just a list of arguably the gang's worst crimes committed to date. which like, its no surprise that they're terrible people, but they almost always experience karmic justice or some form of consequences for their actions. i think new wheels shifts the show to a place where you are just. unable to enjoy the characters. and latter seasons have this pervasive feeling of... idk. being unable to enjoy anything, because not only do these characters suck, but they don't even feel like friends who (occasionally) like each other anymore. there's no humanity left in them. you rewatch early seasons and they all still feel like they're stupid idiots who could actually plausibly exist. they're terrible people, but they're still relatively grounded, and the show is fun to watch. something about the series (and for me it actually starts in 11, lets up for 12, and goes down hard in 13) just stops working for some reason i cannot put my finger on. it's like. the feeling of fun was drained out of everything. with the exception of a few episodes (suburbs.), i genuinely believe season 1 is better than 11 or 13.

it's really hard to watch when shit keeps pinging back and forth between clearly wanting you to genuinely empathize with the cast (dennis' arc throughout 12 with ptsdee, tends bar, dennis' double life, and an ep like mac finds his pride) when it goes so far beyond a group of friends who keep taking something stupid, oftentimes mundane and normal, then accidentally making shit catastrophic for themselves and having to deal with it:

kidnapping a critic that gives them a bad review -> only getting away with it because he decided not to press charges

impulsively selling drugs they happened to find -> being forced to deal more drugs (and dennis is forced into sex work) to pay back the gangsters

burning down a family's house after attempting to give it a makeover -> dee is forced to give up her mom's mansion for the family to stay in

and then it just becomes. you killed a child? you banged a kid? oh, okay, no worries. everything's fine, let's just reset things. frank and dee get a little bit banged up in their accident and lose the 2018 range rover, but that's it.

dee bangs a kid because she wanted to "cuck a bitch" -> she loses the car but gets away with the crime

mac and charlie beat up a group of children who stole mac's bike and kill one of them -> they get away with killing a child

the gang accidentally blew up an empty building and were tracked down and made to do community service. dennis was implicated in maureen's apparent suicide. we know they all have existing criminal records. and yet here, not only do they get away with it, but they're also content to ignore that it ever happened, and so is the show. usually when a more serious crime is committed it's at LEAST the focus of an episode. the structure of this episode positions everyone in a place where it's just business as usual for them. and then no one even fucking reacts or points out how horrific the crimes that've been committed are. which... they usually would. they do in the future and have in the past.

new wheels is absolutely my least favourite episode in the entire series, and while there are episodes that suck more on a technical level, or some that aren't super fun on a rewatch, nothing has left me as genuinely upset as new wheels did lol

and then the script. good god. the fact that new wheels was WORSE before it was edited down. i already hated it with a passion but knowing that they planned to insinuate that dennis killed his fucking son makes me furious 💀💀💀

Oh I have.... definitely expressed my hatred for it. I was surprised by the results of the poll I did, and I've seen a lot of love for it too; rewatching I honestly can really only say Why. Why does this episode exist, and why does it play out like that. Like, surface level it's an alright episode, rewatching all of s13 I can maybe understand why people would say it's the best episode of the season, but it's just... perfectly exemplary of the weirdness of the entire season. I know RCG doesn't like having to deal with continuity in most seasons (s2 was an exception because they were trying to integrate Frank into the gang, and it ended up fucking them over bc the network reordered the episodes creating weird continuity errors) but there's a difference between basic continuity (adhering to previously established lore) versus writing a semi-continuous story that carries throughout the season. Glenn has talked before about preferring to keep the show more grounded rather than allowing it to be cartoonish (arguing against the inclusion of little things like adding SFX for Frank firing the gun in post when they hadn't planned for that in a scene, which means that there's a complete lack of reaction from people in the restaurant = unrealistic) and I have to wonder if it's a coincidence that for the seasons he wasn't in the writers room for, shit got. wild. I think at some point you have to draw a line and say, okay, there is no way in fucking hell these are real people anymore. Not that they haven't been getting away with absolutely despicable shit for years now, but it used to be that the designated straight man of a scene would at LEAST point out how fucked up something is, have some sort of objection, something to ground the show in reality and remind us that these characters are in the real world who could face consequences (injury, community service, arrest). I feel that's what missing from New Wheels. WE as the audience knows how fucked up it is for Mac and Charlie to kill a child, or for Dee to sleep with a minor, but to have Dennis, completely removed from the situation, not react with shock or horror, is...... a weird choice. Especially with how grounded his arc is, and how grounded HE is, relative to the rest of the gang in the episode. It feels off. Even if it was like, Mac and Charlie saying YOU DID WHAT? to Dee, and she and Frank doing the same back after hearing that they're unsure if they killed a kid. Zero judgement at all? Unlike the gang <3 They can generally recognize when the OTHERS pull something that's completely batshit,they just lack self-awareness when they're the one committing the acts yknow?? not always, but usually.

1) when they first intrigued me

I’m not gonna lie, the second Margaret opened that door and we saw Owen Sleater for the first time, I was like who is this cutie??? lol (Thank you show for introducing me to the lovely Charlie Cox lol) But yeah I noticed right away that these two had a banter that interestingly took Margaret by surprise (which kinda fascinated me) He kinda made some assumptions that he definitely shouldn’t have that gave them a rough start but honestly, if I was her & the guy was smiling like he does here at me, he’d have me weak in the knees. He was meant to be cheeky in the beginning. XD Also, I weirdly like the little moment later in the ep when they’re eating dinner & he’s just kinda in the background reacting to stuff. There’s a moment where Margaret is uncomfortable with the dinner talk & declares she knows where she’s from & then we get a shot of Owen smiling at her in a knowing way. It’s like he’s proud of her but also just shows he’s clearly aware of her too. Idk. It just seems like a small nice touch.

2) when I started to ‘ship’ them (sometimes this is different if you think about it)

I had to think about the exact moment I chose to ship them. It’s not like I was shipping her & Nucky. lol But then I hadn’t been actually shipping on this show before these two so yeah. In 2x06, Owen & Margaret have a moment of sexual tension all thanks to a broom. lol I think that & her admitting in her confession that she was attracted to him was what convinced me. Because at first we assume she’s talking about Nucky and then she mentions ‘the man’ works for her & it’s like “Ohhhh!”. I could tell they were at least going to eventually take them happening at least a little seriously from that admission. So I was open to shipping it.

3) when I knew they were OTP status (as in there was literally no other ship for them I would want)

The thing about 2x07 is that besides it being the episode that they finally happen, it’s also one where the two characters have their own separate storylines that manage to parallel enough, with them both feeling like complete outsiders in America, that when they come together in the last scene of the episode, Owen’s little monologue makes sense. When I first watched the episode, I didn’t expect Margaret to give into temptation yet but the longer the scene kept going I started to prepare myself for it a little. (It is interesting to point out that while these two are having sex, Nucky just got shot & betrayed by people. Oops?? lol) But honestly, that scene was steamy tbh. Lol Margaret biting his ear tho. XD

5) Favorite scene

This scene is sad now tbh because it’s their last scene where he’s alive and it’s such a hopeful one because she’s told him that she’s pregnant with his child & he’s overjoyed. Margaret is also feeling scared about running away & this reaction is what convinces her that she’s making the right choice. I do appreciate Owen trying to use actions over words, in reference to 2 eps before when she says “They’re just words & they don’t mean anything anymore”. Nice touch show bringing that back.

6) Scene that made me cry

This scene!!!! I feel like I knew going into 3x10 that something bad was going to happen to Owen by the end of it or at least the season. I felt the same way when it came to Jimmy in S2 (even though that death was way more inevitable) It’s just kinda sad cuz I hoped Owen taking Jimmy’s old job wouldn’t automatically mean he was deadmeat eventually. Anyway, about the exact scene, my heart actually breaks for her here. I know there’s plenty of people who think of Margaret as a bitch. She wasn’t always a favorite of mine either but some people seem to forget that Nucky was definitely cheating on her with Billie in this season. And we saw how much that death affected him. So I do kinda like that brief “HAHA” moment when he realizes that there was more to the nature of Margaret & Owen’s relationship. Yes, Margaret was hypocritical but neither of them were innocent. And I do really think she loved Owen. She was so affected by the sight of his dead body. This scene still scars me tbh. lol But like, bawl!!

I think it goes without saying then The Box scene pissed me off. lol What a lame way to kill Owen off because we didn’t even see it. (Which yeah, I’m thankful we didn’t have to either) The last time we see Owen he’s on his way to kill Masseria & you just knew he was probably doomed. But the way they did this, while effective, just made me so mad. lol

8) Favorite underrated moment(s)

The first moment I chose is their brief one in 3x01 simply because after Margaret got married to Nucky in the S2 finale, I kinda gave up on this being anything more. But then something about this scene (the look of it & their quite obvious attraction for each other still present) made me ship it all over again. That eyesex!!! It also helped that we saw that Nucky was sleeping around with Billie so why anyone can blame Margaret for going there again with Owen confuses me. I also chose the 3x09 scene where they decide to run away together. I still couldn’t believe Owen proposed that they do it. It was bold & kinda foolish but gah, my heart. :’) They’ve got quite a few lowkey moments that are lovely that I could have chosen tbh.

Thoughts on Ep. 304

I really liked this episode. Please keep scrolling if you’re expecting rage, because for the first time this season, I don’t really have any. Are there some things I wish they tweaked in the episode? Of course. But overall, I really enjoyed it.

At this point in the season I’m beyond just liking Jamie’s side more than Claire’s. I’m like angry-adjacent with how they chose to handle Claire’s story up until now. She deserved better than what they gave her. And this episode kind of made me even saltier that we spent three episodes on nothing but Frank and his bullshit. Because as of now, Claire’s choice next week to go back through the stones seems like a super easy one for her. Because we spent no time building a connection with Joe or with her work or even with Bree. We get to see all the different parts of Jamie’s life apart, but not Claire’s. And I get that Jamie’s are all from the book and are more episodic and shit, but whatever. I’m apparently in the minority for wanting to see more of the other aspects of Claire’s life. There’s more to her side of the separation than what they’ve chosen to show us. Like where is her managing to incorporate some of her herbal knowledge into treating her modern patients? Where is the contrast in the friendships she has with Joe and with Geillis? Where is literally *anything* about her and her journey as a person outside of the shitty marriage that stopped being relevant in the first season? I know that we *know* she loves Bree and her brief interactions with Joe have been lovely, but still. Blergh. But what’s aired has aired so...moving on. Basically ep. 305 really needs to bring it. No pressure or anything, episode...

Anywho, the show managed to fix most of what I hoped they’d fix from the book, and I’m always here to get punched in the ovaries by Da!Jamie. My ramblings are under the cut. If you hated the episode, that’s 1000% your right, but I’d recommend not reading any further.

So now we’re back to where we left off in ep. 213. Neat. I’m probs going to skip Claire’s stuff before this episode on rewatches. But really I need to lower my expectations for next week and accept that the show is dumb decided to basically ignore Claire’s story as an individual in favor of bashing us over the head with #manpain. Because screw the protagonist’s journey as her own person, it’s all about the #manpain and misogyny up until now.

I was hoping maybe that Sophie’s acting would get better between last season and this season, but it really hasn’t? It’s like I’m watching all of the characters but then instead of watching Bree I’m watching Sophie trying to be Bree? Maybe she’ll get better for next season? It’s distracting? This is a one and done comment because I feel like of all the things I rant about, this one will make me sound like the biggest bitch because she’s like a baby. But it really takes me out of the moment...

Giving Claire something and someone for herself. I’m apparently actually quite bitter about how you’ve treated Claire so far, show. Moving on...

Ok so the pearls. Fiona is such a sweetheart when she gives them back to Claire. I really like Fiona. But. I really am having a hard time believing that Claire would have let go of the pearls. They were Jamie’s wedding gift to her. They were his mother’s. They’re a physical thing she has from him, like her ring. Like Bree. So why does she give them away? Like are they trying to make it seem like she couldn’t stand to have a reminder of Jamie with her? Because that doesn’t work since she never takes her ring off and also Bree exists. Did she think Frank would take them or destroy them? Because he burned her clothes, but he never took her ring so I don’t get that reasoning either... I really do not get why they had her give something so precious away. Like did they just forget that they were supposed to be around and they need to have Claire give them to Bree next week? Because why couldn’t they have just made Claire have had them the whole time and explain to Bree that she kept them hidden because they were hers from Jamie and she didn’t want to share them with anyone but now she wants Bree to have them? Also, is Brian’s ring going to make a reappearance? Because otherwise what was even the point of that if not to introduce the gemstone thing?

Ok but Bree talking about Claire’s wall coming down would maybe have a bit more weight if we actually saw Claire having a wall up with Bree as she was growing up rather than just what Frank said and Bree said? Also, has it really not clicked for Bree that if Claire leaves, it’s forever?

Roger has chemistry with Bree but Bree like doesn’t have chemistry with Roger? Roger’s going to carry everything with the two of them, isn’t he...

It seems weird that the library or whatever wouldn’t have records for a whole century? Like I get that the show doesn’t want them to find Jamie this episode, but it was odd to me that like that many records were missing? Idk. I’m not a librarian or historian so I’ll just go with it.

I am so here for Claire “smash the patriarchy” Beauchamp sitting wherever the fuck she wants in a bar. I’m sick of all the over the top misogyny in this show this season and apparently so is she, haha. Like I get that “it’s the times,” but sheesh. It’s fucking overkill.

Ok but $20 says Roger shows up in Boston next episode having found Jamie because Jamie printed something about Freedom & Whisky and Roger remembers Claire saying she quoted that to Jamie. And also because it’s in the book and that’s literally the name of next week’s episode so I feel like it’s a safe bet, lol.

Ok the cheers is like the most awkward cheers to ever cheers. It’s like these three have never cheers’ed before and have no clue how you’re supposed to do it.

But Claire looking up before she drinks, like at Jamie or whatever, kills me. And her little nod after, before she says “it’s time to go home.” Like she’s made her decision and is convincing herself it’s the right one. Dagger to the heart.

The first time I watched the episode, I hated that she gave up that quickly. It really bothered me. But then I watched it again after reading this post from @abreathofsnowandashes and now I am fully on board with this choice. Like she’s spent 20 years holding herself together by sheer force of will. She was never allowed to feel the full weight of her loss. Fuck you, Frank. So to feel it all now, after so long, might be what completely breaks her. Like she’s broken now and basically being held together with scotch tape, but I think in this moment when she decides to go home she knows that the tape is starting to come loose and if they keep digging and don’t find Jamie then there will be no putting her back together. And she still has her work and Bree, and while they’re not what she had with Jamie, I can see why in this moment of defeat she might be able to *mostly* convince herself that what she has now is enough. I just want to give her a hug.

JUST WAIT UNTIL NEXT WEEK THOUGH, BABE! IT’LL ALL WORK OUT, I PROMISE!

Love the title card. I get that last week’s was trying to be cute because the dog’s going to be in one of the pictures that Claire brings back to show Jamie, but like I really prefer the ones that are relevant to the actual episode they’re introducing.

Part of me is like uh, it seems a tad too personal that Jamie would share something like losing his children with Lord Dunsany (like just in terms of an employee/employer or prisoner/jailer dynamic), but at the same time punch me in the face with feels at Jamie saying “I’ve lost two children myself.” He’s finally in a place where he can talk about his losses without completely losing it. And it’s nice to see him still holding on to those memories of his family while no longer being crippled by the thoughts. But it’s going to be three lost children soon and I’m not ready.

Ok yeah they’re establishing Geneva as kind of a bitch and stuff, but also she’s hot af and brb, having thoughts. I’m a shallow, shallow person sometimes.

Seriously though, she was really good in Mercy Street. Which was a little PBS Civil War show with the guy from HIMYM and the girl from the most recent season of Fargo. You should check it out.

I’m convinced that Helwater would be the easiest place to rob ever. Between Jamie getting in and Willie getting out at the end, it’s like does no one lock any doors?

I really do like how the actual scene plays though. Yes, she got him there by totally fucked up means, but once he’s there, he’s the one in charge and setting the rules.

Like bless them for the almost absurd amount of consent checks. Blesssss. Like all I wanted was for them to not make Jamie a rapist like he is in the book and they go and have him ask if he can touch her and then give her an out if she wants, making her reaffirm that yes she’s on board with this. And then she later asks him if she can touch his dick and waits for him to say yes. Like for a scene brought about by coerced consent (which *is not* actual consent) and blackmail, this is literally more than I hoped we would get in terms of “fixing” the actual goings on.

“I’m doing this for myself. I want my first time to be with someone like you.” Ok obviously I’m still not ok with blackmailing someone into sex, but I really do think that this line changes things a bit for Jamie. Like yeah, Geneva’s an entitled bitch. But she’s also being treated like property and scared of her future with the husband her parents are basically selling her to. To be perfectly clear, this *does not* excuse how she got Jamie to come to her room. Not at all. Nothing excuses that, it’s always going to be wrong. But to have her say that, to have her admit that she doesn’t know what she’s doing but she knows that she doesn’t want her first time to be with an old stranger, I think that strikes a chord with Jamie. Because not only does he know what it’s like to be raped, what it’s like to have your body violated by someone you don’t want touching you (which is basically Geneva’s whole future with Ellesmere)(yes she dies before he fucks her but neither of them know that at the time), he also knows what it’s like to have someone make your first time as comfortable as possible. I think he can understand a little bit why she is taking this for herself by any means necessary, even if her methods are reprehensible.

TL;DR: Blackmailing someone for sex is *never* ok. This scene had to happen because they’re doing the Willie plot. This is probably the best we could have hoped for from this production team.

Ok but the montage of the actual sex should have been like at least two clips shorter. Like we get it. They’re banging. And it’s just sex. I’m constantly trying to block the vast majority of season two from my memory so I won’t rant about how we never got to see Claire and Jamie conceive either of their kids because “they’re married so we don’t need to see them have sex” and “they’re not the royals” but we see all of this. Because this mostly works for me and it’s not worth getting worked up over a garbage season.

Ok but when they’re done and he makes it clear that what they just did isn’t love is great. Like he’s clear (both for himself and for the audience) that sleeping with her is in no way like what he had with Claire. Or taking away from what he had with Claire. It’s just sex. And he gives her back her nightgown and his side of the deal is done and there’s no round two or three or however many there were in the book and I’m honestly pleasantly surprised with how the show handled it. My expectations were *very* low, but they honestly did a good job with it.

I feel like they would have sent a servant to get Jamie from the stable but cool that Isobel gets to be the exposition monkey here just to give her something to do?

My first thought at the shot of Ellesmere’s estate was just that I really want to rollerblade through those hallways.

Give me all the Da!Jamie goodness! I am so here for Jamie getting to be with his son and having a small part in raising him. Love isn’t a zero sum thing. Loving Willie and getting to be part of his life doesn’t mean he loves Faith or Bree any less. I will never begrudge Jamie the happiness that comes from getting to be with his son.

Although that kid looks *literally nothing* like Jamie. Like the more the show tries to make it a thing that they look alike and therefore Jamie needs to leave the more I giggle. Because omfg there is nothing about that kid that looks like Jamie.

But Jamie’s face in the shot with the reflection in the carriage as Willie’s cleaning it is heartbreaking. Because he knows he has to leave and now the number of lost children is about to go up by one and why am I feeling all the feelings.

Oh Jamie’s face when Willie yells at him for calling him a bastard. You’re making the right choice in leaving, Jamie. It’s not fair and it’ll hurt like a motherfucker, but it’s the right choice.

I’d like to think that Lord John works out Willie’s parentage himself rather than Lady Isobel telling him.

I’m still not totally a fan of Jamie offering himself to Lord John in exchange for Lord John looking after Willie, especially since we just had sex as a bargaining chip earlier in the episode. (And yes, I know the offer was a test for John more than an actual offer, but Jamie should know John’s character by now, so I could still do without it. [x,x,x from ABOSAA]) But it works better in the show than it does in the book and I’m really, really loving David Berry. Like I am still liking show!John much better than book!John.

The double handshake works so much better than the kiss. A+ adaptive choice, show. I’m totally on board with show!Lord John still having a thing for Jamie, but like as long as they don’t make that his defining trait like it is in the books.

Okay first of all I want to clarify that I know this show has soooooo many problems and it's pretty problematic on a lot of things which I completely despise and don't support (also watching s3 and this season was like ???????? ? I don't even have time to talk about that)

Now that I clarify that, let's talk about one of the only things that made me watch this show, Zach and Alex, I don't know if it was just me or whatever (I guess it wasn't bc a lot of people saw this too) but in s2 they had a lot of development together and sooo much chemistry, they had really great scenes together and the scene where they're dancing together in Alex's room was so sweet and it felt like something was being building up, idk.

Then in s3 nothing happened wich was very disappointing I gotta say (but what part of that season didn't disappointed me) whatever, I don't even want to talk about that mess. but Alex killing Bryce bc he threatened Zach bitch if that's not a passion crime

I honestly was so mad about s3 I didn't even care about another season coming, buuuuuut then we got hints of zalex on the promotional pics (the "I love you man") and I decided to watch the new season bc I've been rooting for them since s2 and really wanted them to be together. *Spoiler warning* so first episode, we got the kiss and I was so happy but then Zach rejected Alex, and yes I was disappointed but then I thought "oh, maybe they'll make him realize that he actually likes him later" (me: 🤡) and there were scenes where the writers could've have done that, like when Winston asked him if he loved Alex and Zach looked all sad and shit, or in their "be gay, do crimes" scene where he asked Alex why he is with him and not with Charlie (oh babe we both know pretty damn well), or even when Chloe rejects him, it could've have been a parallel to when he rejected Alex and then he could realize that he likes him, which is something I saw a lot of people talking about, bitch he even said he liked the kiss, he didn't pulled out from the kiss and maybe I'm seeing shit but he totally kiss him back aghhhh and the show is trying to convince me that they don't like each other ????? but they just wasted all the potential they had and I'm very mad lol like why would you develop something and then doing nothing with that, there was so much potential :( even tho it's cool that they made Alex not straight it doesn't feel right that he ended up with Charlie ??? Yes they're very cute together, yes Charlie is very sweet and I'm glad that Alex is happy bc he is my favorite character and obviously I'm happy and to be honest I kinda ship them but it also feels kinda forced to me?? Idk if that makes sense, I feel like Charlie was there just to make Alex ending up with someone and nothing else lol he didn't really add anything to the show more than that.

Also Zach was very ooc which was very sad to see bc I love him lol and I know he had a lot of issues and a clear drinking problem and that can affect a person a lot, but idk just the way they handled it was very weird to me, also with the fact that they didn't really resolved it ??? it felt like Alex helped him to go and see Justin and then in one second he was okay again ??? Like bitch that's not how you resolved those types of issues stop with the bad writing please akdjskdj.

Ahh but overall I'm glad that Zalex remained very good friends and shit, but I don't know, it left me a bittersweet taste in the mouth.

5: What is the most interesting class you have taken? Oh baby… I have a whole ass forensics degree but I guess my most interesting classes were Human Osteology 1 & 2 (where we visited the human remains facility bi-weekly) and my two Crime Scene Investigation classes. Those were worth my whole college experience.

6: How often do you daydream? I would say I probably daydream an unhealthy amount. It really helps me fall asleep.

So I really pushed for it and it happened, Madison is officially gone and that’s one less person I gotta suck up to. But now mark is pissed at me. WHY WOULD WE VOTE KAREN OFF. She does not have a strong game, she’s floundering, she’s a prefect goat to take to the end. But whatever! Be as mad as you want. I was trying to help us both. But you just wanna be a big MAN BABY because I’m not letting you run this game. Remember how I said I wanted to run this and take no prisoners- well it’s now in full fuckin swing. I’ll do anything to get to the end. Even if that means cutting off mark, my number one ally. I’m actually super upset because I feel like he won’t be my friend anymore and wow I need to stop rambling whatever goodnight goodbye Goodluck 

I did a confessional before i got a strike lmaoooo I won immunity bitches time for revenge in Madison’s name. I’d love to just take out Tracey’s boring ass this round but there’s bigger threats in the game and unfortunately she’s not a threat to anyone or anything ever so let’s hope we can actually flush stoners idol this round and take out dan or drew 

I didn't win immunity but i beat Drew the legend's score so im really happy about that. Tonight's plan is to tell people we're voting dan but actually vote drew, so I'm hoping it's seamless and not a fucking trainwreck like it has been. We're also trying to get Chris to use his idol. Lastly, im not sure i trust charlie atm. Mark wants her in on the Drew vote but im nervous that she might spill.

I'm writing another log because I'm so nervous for tonight once again. Idk why but I'm skeptical about Pippa being included in our voting information because I think she is secretly spying for Chris. The other night I told Pippa that I might vote Chris and not even a minute later, he messages me saying "I heard I'm getting votes against me." Coincidence? Idk. I want to be able to network and work with people but I don't know who to trust. Pat and Mark are pretty cool, but even Sammy I'm a little bit worried about. On the same night with the Pippa situation, I got a message from Chris telling me that Sammy asked him if he would vote me. So, now I'm not sure if Chris was just baiting me to start a fight, or if Sammy might also be working with Chris. Fuck. 

This round is a mess but honestly, I’m like so here for it. I’m lowkey hoping Pat hits the bricks bc I told Drew he’s getting all the votes. I can’t wait to get voted out hahahahahaha. That would be so fucking funny. Everyone thinks Chris has the idol, but Drew does :~)

so this round has been very boring. Everyone is being predictable and sticking with their comfort.  However I really want to switch things up and stop giving Tracey stoner and Chris so much power. CONFESSIONAL: This week is supposed to go smoothly. My alliance of sammy chelsea and mark is going well. I trust them a lot. With my alliance members getting voted out its easier for them to want to vote for me in the end. I miss madison but we have to keep moving forward to eliiminate drew, chris and tracey. i CANNOT STAND THEM. especially tracey. if she takes me out i will actually cry. No matter what happens atlast i have majority. and it seeeeeeems like people are noticing me and I realllllyyyy like that. Like if they keep going for chelsea and mark Its going to be amazing. This is literally how I won my BB game so I think this is a good way to get myself into the same position

OKAY SO SOMEHOW the concept of voting out madison actually worked?? Charlotte's interest in playing both sides was so incredible and useful in the last minute. Rip Ricky btw, i hope by the time this comes out, things are better for him. So the challenge was firedragon, which means i lost right the fuck away. So once again, a brilliant idol play was necessary. I'm bitter af that it couldn't be Chelsea ...but sammy probably was the better call. But now i'm stuck, F8, no idol, very little hope. It's nearing the end of the road but honestly making it this far is a triumph in itself.

I’m shook. This is my third individual immunity win. My target is definitely growing but I still feel like I’m playing a reasonable game. I would love for Pat to use his Sapphire idol this week bc I would be safe regardless, but honestly Drew is the easy vote. The only thing that sucks is that he knows Pat has the Sapphire idol and if I flip, he could easily tell Pat or others about me telling him. I could do some damage control this week and tell Pat that Drew asked me if Pat had won the power and I said idk. And act like drew knew where everyone competed and it’s wideled down to Pat possibly having it. That’s a little risky but if it comes out that Drew told Pat I told him about the idol, it could save me and I can easily back pedal and say that Drew has a lucky guess. But at the same time, why would Drew lie if he was going out the door hnnnnn. It’s best if Pat doesn’t feel safe this week/thinks it’s gonna go to rocks. I think I could push a tie narrative by throwing Charlotte under the bus, but we’ll see. Regardless I’m going to the f7 and hopefully I have a solid group of 4 and maybe an idol of my own up my sleeve.

We had touchy subjects this round and I got most annoying which I'm sure I got bc I snapped in the tribe chat that one time JSJDJDJDJ and who doesn't deserve to still be here which is like ????? I get it!!! Y'all wanted me out for so long but you can't your way bc I'm smarter but w/e!!!! They can stay hatin ! I think I got most likely to get to the end and win or lose idk but I like my odds tbh rkdjdofnfk so this round will prob end being split 4-4 which is exciting bc it means we'll prob be going to rocks !!!! I'm nervous about being rocked out but hey at least it'll be exciting lol. I LOST THE CHALLENGE I DON'T HAVE AN IDOL This should spell death for me. It really should. it probably still will. But I have three people willing to vote with me, two willing to pull a rock for me. So far, at least. A lot of shit changes when the revote is upon us. There's also Pat's sapphire idol to think about. I'm honestly not expecting to make it through this round but if I do, there are only four rounds left to go. Four rounds, it's not that much. We're trying to vote Pat because making me and Pat both safe was the best way to keep Dan on board with the plan. That and the fact that he won immunity and wouldn't pull a rock. Also I got biggest threat and needs to go next. These whores really know how to flatter a bitch.

IM FINALLY VOTING TRACEY OUT.. too bad shes not actually going home bc Pat has the reward from the dark week. He started getting nervous with his name apparently going around this vote and only charlotte or dan would need to flip to cause rocks/send pat home. So Pat is safe with his idol but it cancels votes for the top 2 vote getters. So we had to maneuver the votes so Tracey is actually the second vote getter and Drew is the 3rd so Drew goes home. Me Dan Pat and Chelsea searched every name in survivor history on the blog for the clues to the idol, and then searched those numbers. We dont have it yet but should soon. Touchy subjects was interesting. Apparently i really am perceived to be running this game, not sure how that happened. But hopefully if i get to the end after "running the game"  since merge thatll make up the lack of social game i have compared to some of the people left in the game.

Episode #2: “I have no material for a confessional” - John

Ok so now that Cole is gone, my next target if we lose I think Bryce should be next. The tribe shoulda known what would happen when me and Nick got put together :) only the inevitable tribe swap can screw this up.

So I have no idea who that first boot guy was, but rip the first of many people!  I hope to not follow him out the door anytime soon lmfao...

This challenge looks like it'll be fun and brain blasting, but I'm so bad at everything, so we shall have to see how I perform!  I really want to thrive in this pre-merge portion and not only form alliances but also show that I can do a challenge for my tribe and do it well!

Hi! I’m Nicole! I’ve been doing so terrible in this game so far, I already got a strike for not submitting a confessional and also abstained from last immunity. I absolutely HAVE TO pull my weight this round or my tribe is gonna hate my guts. I love Alice in Wonderland so I’m sad that I am doing so pooorly but hopefully I still have time to turn it around.

I did the challenge and i hope i did well enough to give us points to win immunity. Dont really want to go to tribal. I really like my tribe. It is time tho to have somewhat game talk. Right now Im feeling like I want to align with sharky, dennis, and charlie. But need to see who they would want to work with. I also really like Brian. So by default if we do lose, my target might be Nicole which sucks but we havent really talked. Those are my thoughts so far.

I started my game talk with Dennis and he wants to work together which is great. (Hopefully he is telling the truth). Next we talked about who we should bring in and he said charlie and Im down with that because Charlie is awesome. I brought up Sharky and Dennis said that he was chill and would work with him. He’s asking Charlie and I’ll be asking Sharky. Hopefully this four person alliance works. I really like to work with them three.

Okay the game has officially BEGUN. Maynor just came to me pitching an alliance. I feel great about working with because we get on really well. The only hiccup is that he followed it with pitching us working with Dennis and Charlie as a 4 person alliance. I really want to work with Brian though so I'm going to try and get him to keep his options open...but I have an alliance at least.

Does Nicole have a personality? I'm really not sure because our conversation has consisted of NOTHING. I want to work with women...but not Nicole…

Charlie and Sharky both agreed to be part of the 4 person alliance. This is great because we will have majority on our tribe. Hopefully its true tho. Sharky is down to be my duo partner in this game and im 100% truthful about that. I would totally go to the end with him. Lets just hope we win immunity today so we can avoid tribal again.

Okay so this alliance is in motion and Brian is getting left behind...I have to figure out a way to warn him without freaking him out

Alliance of 4 is great. Going to make a chat later with host. Need to come up with an alliance name first. We won immunity which is awesome. We are now only tribe to have all memebers still. Which is good and bad since we could be targets during a swap for having everyone still in the game. Lets 🤞 that doesn’t happen.

ok so jayden stays ignoring but finally started talking to me for like 4 minutes so love that!! he really cares. and like still ppl force me to have convos with them like i just want a social game sorry to inconvenience u!! love naomi smalls. uh i have a f2 now! me and nathan WILL win this game know that we scored the highest in the challenge too.. Keaton has decided he wants to be buddies with me and BC now so *surprise* that’s an alliance now. Woohoo. Keaton’s growing on me a lot actually - it took him a while to get started but now he’s arguably one of my favorites. Keep it up Keaton!

At this point it’s getting increasingly obvious that BC wants to be everyone’s best friend. The alliance with Matt happened because BC had a chat with both of us the night before about allying separately. And Keaton initiated the alliance yesterday because of a conversation he had with BC. And then apparently BC gets on really well with Marie as well? From my perspective, he’s spreading himself too thin and it could bite him in the ass if he’s not careful.

As for the vote, it’s between Marie and John. BC and I are leaning John. The guy hasn’t talked to me once since the first night. He’s putting in super low effort, and I’d rather have someone like Marie who actually tries to be a part of the team. Matt and Keaton seem to be leaning Marie though. I’m going to try to push BC into committing against John without being too vocal either way myself. If Marie winds up going, it’s not the end of the world, but I’d really like to see John gone.

Sooooo I have an idol... a legacy advantage... a majority alliance... and our tribe won immunity... I think I’m the most powerful player in the game right now... let’s just stay that way!

I just sent in to create the Four of a Kind alliance which is me, Dennis, Charlie, and Sharky. Sharky and I named our duo alliance. I feel that Sharky is genuine to were I trust that he does want to work together. I still want to bond with Brian because I really like him. Nicole is mostly offline so idk. Our conversation like stopped.

So apparently the hosts want me to make one of these so I will. Not much to talk about since im in the majority and we aren't going to tribal. Bryce is presumably going next although he is good at challenges and appreciates Travis Scott. But according to Nathan he tried to target me so ya know.

So my phone is gone... this is sad and for now I have no way of getting it back so I am not quitting until I get voted out but I am not giving up.

So I’m shook I survived the first vote and we won thank god. I’m so happy for Nathan he really stood up for me last round and I’ve got his back no matter what now! I’m just hoping that Bryce isn’t angry with me for the cole vote oops

well APPARENTLY we're all so fucking bright that we all had the same great idea. none of us are going to dare suggest we have a preference here, and we're going to sit around until late tonight going "ya idk im fine with whatever". because that's what survivor's all about.

at least Keaton's hinting aggressively that he prefers to vote Marie here. if he were a little more active he'd be a lock for my favorite on the tribe.

Why I get paranoid: I thought why not share why I’m paranoid when I play games... Survivor is a very cut throat killer game and when thinking about how to control that part to me to where I can be cut throat with no regrets. I turn that on at merge and cut away the paranoia because I simply know that once merge hits there is some respect to everyone left in so I feel a bit more comfortable making the plays I do but before merge it’s kind of stressful... fun fact about me is I never have gotten premerge in an official group game. So in a sense I guess I’m paranoid because the pressure is on premerge and merge is where I really start to pull it together because if I go out there’s simply no reason to really care what place I get.

So, some developments. First of all me and Dennis feel like we've cracked a part of the puzzle on the search thing, as the wording was the same in two different things we found. Praying that Dennis gets and advantage. Imagine if we held all the powers by day 5 hahahaha.

Also, Dennis told me Maynor wants to make an alliance with me him and Sharky. I do feel good about this but would rather have Brian involved tbh. Despite this, me and Brian talked and I feel good about my relationship with him. He's a really nice guy!

Dennis didn't get anything on the hunt.. boooo. I am kinda wondering whether he's lying to me, cos I don't really understand why he tried to talk 4 times when there was another option... idk I trust him but I hope he's not hiding any advantage from me.

The alliance also got made. Good to feel comfortable in a group tbh

So happy we won the challenge!! I was a high scorer in this challenge, maybe I need to tone it down, don't want to seem a threat lol!!

I am a little bit worried about having told Sharky about the idol. Idk if I can trust him yet. It felt kinda awkward when I promised him I'd share the idol with him, I am genuine about that but I hope he sees that.

I have no idea what’s happening this vote so I’m gonna vote Keaton because he’s the one I’ve talked to the least and hopefully I don’t get voted out ughhh
