Meant To Be - Chapter 2

Dean and Jordan are each trying to escape their painful pasts. Their chance meeting and a dangerous encounter begins a relationship that may give them both a new start.

Dean pulled on his jeans and shoved his feet into his running shoes, then grabbed his gun, clipping his badge onto his waistband before heading outside.

Jordan’s car was engulfed in flames, and the sound of one of the windows exploding from the heat made him jump. “Fucking hell,” he muttered, his eyes scanning the area for any sign of Darrel. He had to be close, watching, probably waiting for Jordan to come out. He heard sirens in the distance as he doubled back and went around behind the building.

He moved quickly to the other end of the structure, peering through the darkness for a sign of his prey, then moved across to the backyard of the houses that lined the east side of the block. He moved carefully, almost silent, from one yard to the next until he spotted Darrel watching the fire from behind a tree near the corner house. As he drew closer, he could hear the man mumbling, “Come on, Jordan, where the hell are you?”

Dean stepped up behind him, pressing the muzzle of his gun against the base of his skull. “She’s in her room, right where I told her to stay, dickbag.”

“Man, who the fuck are you?” Darrel blurted out in frustration as he raised his hands.

“Well, for one thing, I’m a cop. And the local boys are on the way, so let’s go meet ‘em.”

“All I wanted was for her to come out, so we could talk.”

Dean snorted and shoved the gun against Darrel’s head, urging him along. “Social skills are really not your strong suit, are they, Darrel?”

Dean marched his reluctant prisoner back to the motel parking lot, holding his badge high as the police cruiser pulled in, followed by the fire department. The officers got out, guns drawn, and Dean shoved the gun into the back of Darrel’s neck again. “Move.” He tossed his badge to one officer, who examined it and handed it back. “This guy is your arsonist. He also assaulted the woman who owns this car earlier today and tried to abduct her. Sorry, don’t have my cuffs on me, so if you’d do the honors...” He gave Darrel a push, filling the officers in on the details as they cuffed the prisoner. As he finished with his report, Jordan flew by him in a furious blur.

“You son of a bitch!” She shouted into Darrel’s face, then rocked back and punched him square in the face with everything she had. The man howled in pain, blood spurting from his nose, and Dean grabbed Jordan’s arm, pulling her away.

“Fuckin’ bitch broke my nose!” Darrel yelled, as an officer, struggling not to laugh, pressed a wad of tissues to his face. “I wanna press charges!”

“For what? I didn’t see anything. You guys see anything?” Dean asked, unable to smother the grin on his face.

“Nope. Didn’t see a thing,” the arresting officer answered with a wink at Jordan. They walked Darrel over to the rescue squad, letting them staunch the bleeding before shoving him into the back seat of the cruiser. With a nod in Dean’s direction, they backed out and headed for the police station.  

As soon as they pulled away, Jordan bent over, groaning in pain, her hand shoved between her knees. “FUCK. Nobody ever told me how much that would hurt!”

Dean tried not to laugh as he reached for her injured hand. “Let me see.” He gave her hand a quick once-over, then put an arm around her shoulders and steered her back towards the room. “Nothing’s broken, at least. Come on, Sugar Ray. Let’s get some ice on it.”

He walked her around the fire truck and down to his room, ushering her in and seating her in a chair before heading to the bathroom for a towel and to the fridge for ice. She accepted the ice pack from him with a sheepish ‘Thank you’ and applied it, wincing. “I know, that was stupid. But damn, it felt good. For a minute, anyway.”

Dean laughed softly. “Yeah, I bet it did. He had it comin’.”

“So...” she glanced up, watching him pour more whiskey into cups for them both. “You didn’t tell me you were a cop.”

“You didn’t tell me you were an MMA fighter, either,” he joked, and she smiled, blushing.

“I’m not. I’ve never hit anybody before in my life.”

“Yeah, I get that,” he chuckled. “But you did a fan-fucking-tastic job of it.” He sat down across from her, sliding one of the drinks over her way.

She laughed softly. “Thanks.”

“Anyway, yeah – I’m a detective. Violent Crimes Division in Kansas City.”

“Oh. That sounds – dark.”

He geared back a little with a nod, a grim smirk on his lips. “Yeah. Sometimes,” he replied, downing a swallow of his whiskey. “So what do you do? Or did you do?”

“I worked for a local attorney. Small town, small office. Hated to leave him, he was a good boss, I’ve worked for him for years. But I needed to get the hell out of Dodge, you know?” She stared into her cup for a moment. “I don’t know what I’ll do now. My plan was to drive to Kansas City, find a cheap motel to live in until I found a job and a place to live. Can’t really drive anywhere now, thanks to that douchebag.”

“Law office, huh?”

“Yeah. I know, it sounds thrilling. But I ran the office, and I loved it. Just… finding something in the city is gonna be a lot different than working for someone I knew my whole life.”

They chatted for a while, until Jordan was yawning more than she was talking, the adrenaline gone and her exhaustion kicking in. Dean laughed softly, and she gave him a shy, sheepish smile. “Well, it is, what – 2:30 AM?? Are you kidding me?”

“Yeah, pretty late. Listen, why don’t you just crawl into the other bed and get some shut-eye. Tomorrow morning the local PD wants you to come in and give your statement, and then that’s hopefully the last you have to deal with Darrel.”

“God, I hope you’re right. But I don’t want to impose on your space...”

“Not imposing. I offered, and I wouldn’t offer if I didn’t want you to. You’re barely keeping your eyes open, and we’ll both be asleep as soon as we hit our pillows.”

“Ok, I won’t argue.” Jordan stood and stretched, then headed for the extra bed, pulling the bedding back and slipping between the sheets with a sigh. Dean stopped in the doorway to the bathroom, looking over his shoulder at her.

“I’m gonna grab a quick shower. See you in the morning, Xena.” He flashed a grin and went in,  laughing as a pillow flew towards him, deflected by the quickly closed door.

Jordan fell asleep still smiling.

The next morning Dean was gone when she woke, squinting at the alarm clock next to the bed. It was only a little after 6 AM, but she dragged herself out of the warm cocoon of blankets and headed out the back door to her own room. After a shower and some clean clothes, she was feeling almost human, except for the nagging need for coffee. She was just figuring out the miniscule coffee maker in the kitchenette when a knock sounded at her front door. She peeked through the peephole, then smiled as she opened it to Dean, bearing two very large coffees.

“You are a saint,” she said gratefully as he handed her one of the steaming cups and set the other on the table.

“It’s been said,” he grinned, and she laughed. “I thought we’d have a primer, then head to Molly’s for some breakfast before we go down to the police station. If you want.”

“Oh, breakfast sounds amazing. I’ll bet Molly makes fantastic pancakes.”

“And bacon.” Dean’s eyes closed in pleasure at the thought. “Maybe a couple of eggs.”

“Ooooh, and hashbrowns!” She giggled, sipping at her coffee. “You’d think we didn’t stuff our faces with bacon cheeseburgers and fries last night.”

They took their time at Molly’s, eating their fill and lingering over their coffee, then drove to the police station late that morning. It took longer than Jordan had expected, but finally she was putting her signature to the documents and breathing a sigh of relief, hoping that chapter of her life was behind her at last.

Dean dropped her off at her room, and she spent the next couple of hours on the phone with her insurance company, grateful that they would pay for a tow company to haul her burned-out car to a junk yard. Buying a new vehicle would have to wait until she was back to work.

With that depressing thought, she flopped down on the bed and started sorting through the overwhelming List of Things To Do in her head. Get a rental car, find a cheap but hopefully safe hotel to stay in until she could afford an apartment, and, the biggie… FIND A JOB. In a new city, where she didn’t know her way around.

Her mind was still going in circles as she made more notes and chewed on her pencil, and her phone ringing made her jump. She saw Dean’s name and answered with a little laugh. “Hi, Dean.”

“You doing anything important right now?”

“Not really. Just trying to figure out what’s next for me. Haven’t been making much progress.”

“Well, I kinda wanted to talk to you about something. Can you come to my room? Sam’ll be showing up pretty soon, so I hate to leave.”

“Yeah, sure, I’ll be right over.”  

Dean was on his phone when he opened the door, and she walked in and took a seat at the table as he finished his conversation. “Okay, Sammy – see you in a while.” He grinned at her as he pulled out the chair across from her and plopped down.

“So, Dean, what’s up? There’s not a problem with the statement at the station or anything, is there?”

“No, nope, everything’s fine as far as I know. I just wanted to run something by you.”

She leaned back in her chair and looked at him, not sure what to expect. “Okay...”

“So, you’re headed to KC, right? That’s the plan?”

“Well, yeah – it was the plan before my car got torched. Now it’s getting more complicated.”

“Not really. It’s actually pretty simple. See, Sam and I are headed back there tomorrow morning. There’s no reason why you can’t just ride down with us.”

Jordan’s eyes widened. “Are you serious?”

“Yeah. Why not? We live there, anyway, we’re all headed to the same place. If you want. I’m not trying to push you or anything, but – we’d be more than happy to give you a ride.”

“Is – I mean, would your brother be okay with that?”

“Okay, second thing. So, I told Sam about your former job. See, he’s an attorney, and he just lost his legal assistant about three weeks ago. He hasn’t been able to find anybody else yet, and he’s dying to meet you.”

“Shut the fuck up.”

“I’m serious.”

“Dean, I don’t know what to say… The only thing is, I’ll need to rent a car so I can look for a place to live temporarily until I have a steady paycheck.”

Dean grinned. “Third thing. Talked to Donna, my partner. She lives in a two-bedroom place, and she’s been talking about getting a roomie. Not that you’d have to commit to that, but she said you’d be welcome to stay with her until you got settled down there. Or stay on as her roommate if you like it there and decide you want to, whatever.” Jordan was staring at him with her mouth open, so he continued. “Look, I know I just dumped a whole load of stuff on you, you don’t have to answer this second, but the offer – well, offers – are on the table.”

She moved her gaze to the table top and blew out an overwhelmed breath. Tears were stinging at her eyes as she looked back up at him. “Dean Winchester, where have you been my whole life?”

No Man Left Behind

Commander Cody x Reader (Star Wars)

A/N: Sorry I haven’t posted in a while, break is finally here and I’ve got some time on my hands to do some writing! (Also I suck at Star Wars lore and knowledge sorry!)

"I'm sorry, you want to leave?" (Y/n) practically yelled at General Kenobi. Shocked by his plan of retreat. The Republic was facing a heavy loss of soldiers and tech. (Y/n) knew retreating was the only way to stop more deaths from occurring, but the separatists had taken some clones alive as bait for the Jedi, Grievous was nothing if he wasn't cruel. He had taken Commander Cody and part of his squad, Boil, Waxer, and Trapper.

"If we stay any longer we risk losing more troops, we have to retreat. The council agrees." Obi-Wan attempted to reason with them. Except, while (Y/n) had a lightsaber and fought for the Republic, they did not consider themselves to be a Jedi, they didn't follow the Jedi Code and they also did not have to report to the Jedi Council.

"Leave me a ship." (Y/n) points at Kenobi and before he can attempt to reason with them anymore they've run out of the tent.

"Maker help me, they're going to get as all killed." He mumbled as he pinched the bridge of his nose. Taking a deep breath before complying with (Y/n)’s request.

(Y/n) kept their lightsaber off and used the shadows to their advantage, they knew breaking in would be easier than getting out, but right now all they cared about was finding the boys. Their heart was pounding in their ears, thinking about what Grievous could be doing to Cody for information.

Quickly, (Y/n) pressed themselves to the back of a wall and listened to the droids for any clue on where they were being held.

"The Jedi are retreating, the General says to execute the prisoners as we finish fortifying the barrier, another victory for the Separatists." Their robotic voices filled the hallway. Taking a deep breath, (Y/n) stepped out in front of them, taking them by surprise. Before the droids could even react they held out their hand and through the force began to speak.

"There's an intruder on the third floor, go raise the alarm." The droids turned towards each other and started running the other way. They didn't have much time, hopefully the droids will cause enough chaos that they would have enough time to find Cody and the others and get out.

"General!" They heard a voice whisper, whipping around they saw Boil, Waxer, and Trapper in a cell.

"Boys!" They smiled, pulling out their lightsaber, the green light clashing with the red sparks from destroying the lock on the door. Quickly, (Y/n) looked each over and gave them a hug. "Listen, General Kenobi left behind a ship for us. Waxer, I'm sending you the coordinates you three get there quickly and I'll go find Cody."

"But sir-" Waxer started.

"If we're not there in half an hour, leave and regroup with Kenobi and Skywalker." (Y/n) clapped Waxer on the shoulder and gave him a confident smile as they continued to run down the hallway, expertly avoiding droids.

It didn't take long before (Y/n) could hear Cody deny his torturer any information about the Republic's plans. (Y/n) slowly peaked their head just far enough to see Grievous with two IG-100 Magna Guards. Cody had his eyes shut and his head hung low, he was breathing heavily. They had striped him of his armor leaving him in only his grays.

(Y/n) quickly moved their head and pressed themselves firmly to the wall. If they ran now there was no way they would get themselves and Cody out of here in time, but there was no way that (Y/n) could beat Grievous and two guards. For a moment they thought about distracting them long enough Cody could get away, but (Y/n) knew Cody would rather go down fighting then leaving them behind.

"Kriff." (Y/n) murmured, focusing they closed their eyes and felt their surroundings through the force. Cody was going in and out of consciousness, much to Grievous' displeasure. He needed medical attention stat and rushing in wasn't going to help the situation. Before (Y/n) could figure out anything else the whole base shook and an alarm went off. Through the comms they could hear a droid panicking.

"General, there's a ship outside that just hit our communication tower and-" Before the message could finish (Y/n) heard the sound of lightsabers crashing through the console. Remaining against the wall Grievous and his guards left Cody's cell and headed down the hallway, the alarms distracting them enough they didn't even bother looking their way.

Taking a deep breath, (Y/n) rushed into the room and immediately started working on the restraints. Knowing that the boys were buying them as much time as they could.

"(Y/n)?" Cody's voice sounded hoarse and confused. (Y/n) finished undoing the restraints and caught Cody before he collapsed on the ground.

"Come on Commander. Your team is waiting at the ship, we've got to go." (Y/n) threw his right arm around them and place their other arm around his waist, hoisting him up as much as possible.

"You…should go…" He murmured, (Y/n) ignored him and pulled him along towards where they had come in. "Leave me."

"Sorry, Commander. I'm a big believer in no man left behind." (Y/n) grunted, as they pulled both of them flush against the wall as a couple of droids ran by, no doubt heading to the control center. For a moment (Y/n) thanked the Maker that droids were idiots.

"(Y/n)…" He murmured trying to wrestle out of their grip.

"Cody, dammit! Stop making this more difficult than it has to be!" (Y/n) pulled him up, by leaning forward. He groaned. "Cody, listen to me. I am not leaving here. I stayed behind to get you and your team home. Now they're waiting for us and if we want them to get to safety too then we have to move." (Y/n) looked Cody directly into his eyes. He looked exhausted and so defeated. (Y/n) felt their heart break for a moment. "Come on, we make it out of here and I'll buy you some drinks from 79's, okay?" He let out a low chuckle that caused him to grimace in pain.

They both started moving, a little quicker now, but (Y/n) could tell he was struggling. (Y/n) could only hope that Waxer had the ship nearby and that the ship Kenobi left had enough medical supplies to hold Cody over.

Once the two made it back to the ship, Trapper and (Y/n) had helped Cody into the medic area and started apply bacta patches. Cody remained unconscious the whole flight back to The Negotiator. (Y/n) refused to leave his side, wishing they had been quicker. How long had he been tortured? How had he stayed so strong?

(Y/n) sighed, running a hand through their hair as they paced the med bay. Kix was finishing up tests and wrapping Cody's wounds, but there was still apart of them terrified.

"(Y/n)." Obi-Wan's clear Coruscanti accent sounded behind them. (Y/n) turned around to face the General. He had his arms cross and a look of disapproval written all over his face.

"Look, I know I went against orders, but I am not apart of the Jedi council and I understand you're still my General. I just couldn't-"

"(Y/n), please." He calmly sighed and gave them a smile. "I have to deal with Anakin and Ahsoka breaking orders constantly, but you saved lives and even if you didn't listen," He sighed. "I'm happy you saved Cody and his men. However, I must request you reconsider joining the Jedi Council." (Y/n) laughed for the first time since this mission had started, Obi-Wan couldn't help but smile.

"I'm sorry General Kenobi. I'm just not one for the Jedi Code, there's just too much out there I want to do, but I will continue fighting along side you all during this war and helping anyway I can."

"I figured as much." He turned to leave, but stopped in the doorway. "(Y/n), please get some rest. I'm sure Commander Cody will wake up soon and be fine."

"Thank you, General." (Y/n) watched him leave and turned around towards where Kix had been examining Cody. Kix was nowhere to be seen and Cody was sitting up drinking some water. (Y/n) smiled gently and walked over to him. "I'm glad to see you awake, Commander." They smiled at him and sat down next to him, causing him to tense.

"Well, I owe that to you. Thank you for saving me, General." (Y/n) made a tsking noise.

"Not a general, Commander!" They reminded him with a smile and he let out a low chuckle.

"General Kenobi still hasn't convinced you?" It was (Y/n)’s turn to chuckle as they shook their head and looked around the med bay.

"I will never be able to agree with how the Jedi handle things, they'd kick me out before I could even do anything."

"I don't know about that, General Skywalker is still here."

"Yeah well, he's got that chosen one energy about him. Me? I'm a pest at best, but a pest that gets the job done." (Y/n) sighed and got up. "Get some rest, Cody. For real take some time and heal." (Y/n) put their hand on his shoulder and squeezed. Maybe it was the lack of sleep or the thought of almost losing Cody, but (Y/n) leaned in and gently pressed a kiss to Cody's cheek.

"I-" Cody started, but (Y/n) was already halfway out the door.

"Get some rest, so maybe you'll be the one saving me next time!" They shouted, causing Cody to chuckle as Kix came over.

"You both have it bad." Kix teased, causing Cody to roll his eyes and lay back down on the bed. Closing his eyes he could almost feel as if their lips were still pressed against his cheek.

Snowy Days - Jihoon

❀ a/n: just read the tags below but if ur too lazy to basically: don’t expect lots of updates and i just wrote this as a form of therapy for me. i guess i missed writing and needed to rant /shrugs/ 

also this title sucks but idk what to do with it either LMAO

It was a quiet, winter evening; the snow was gently falling outside and the laughter of college students filled the dorm hallways. 

I, on the other hand, was curled up in a ball on my bed, reading a book. The soft sounds of my hand turning the pages lulled me in a dreamland of swoon-worthy boys. 

Suddenly, I heard a loud bang. 

I flinched and jumped up on my bed to see what had dropped. 

“Sorry! Just dropped my pan, how’s it going?” I sighed thankfully, realizing it was just my roommate, Naeun. Naeun was a freshman like me; we hadn’t talked much before rooming together. We got along most of the time, but being around people just irked me sometimes.

I pointed at the book, trying to hide the girlish daze in my eyes. 

“Just reading, like usual.” I kept my words short, hoping she would get the hint that I wasn’t in the mood to talk. It wasn’t like I was mad at her or anything, but I need my breaks with all the socialness of college. I don’t think people understand how tiring it is for introverts to have to be “on” all the time; “on” meaning social. 

She nodded. “What book?” 

“It’s called ‘Win Some, Lose Some’ by Shay Savage. It’s a really amazing novel about a boy who was Autism and a girl who ...” I trailed off when I realized she had her back towards me. The sound of her pots and pans flying into her drawer was distracting. “A girl who befriends him basically. How was your day?” I asked politely. 

I braced myself for her long winded answer. Most people just say “good” or “it was pretty alright” but not Naeun, she pops off and talks about things no one really needs to know, and no one really cares. 

“It was okay. I saw one of my friends on campus and I waved to her because it’s so weird, right? Seeing people you know on such a large campus. And then I walked to English and my professor was just such in a good mood today, she’s so nice, I love her.” 

I smiled carefully, hoping she doesn’t realize how much I do not care about who she waves at or how her professor looks. 

“Then, I went to the library and did some of my math homework and I got started on the next chapter. And then I started to do my English homework which I got kind of stumped on. Anyway, all I could think about is this big burrito when I was studying.” She took out two large burritos and plopped them on a blue plate. 

I nodded and told her I was going to go back to my book. She nodded and right as I was about to plug in my earbuds to drown out her voice while I read, she stopped me with her voice.

“Hey, I’m bored, do you think Ahyoung and Somi are busy?” I took out my earbuds once more and shrugged. 

“Probably not.” 

“Hm. Is it cool if I invite them over? I mean, you don’t have to say yes if you just want to be alone, I know how you get like that.” 

I forced an awkward smile. “Um, I actually want to just chill and be alone, but you can always go to their rooms... they live in the same building.” I tried not to let my annoyance show in my voice, but it was rising. 

She furrowed her brows and sighed. “Yeah, but they’re so far...” She whined. 

Don’t roll your eyes. Don’t roll your eyes. Don’t roll your eyes. 

“I mean, they always come to our dorm, maybe go to them today?” I really didn’t care what she did, I just wanted to be alone. 

I turned on my music and opened my book so I didn’t have to hear her complain. She went back on her phone and I was content reading in peace. 

Five minutes later, I heard loud knocking on the door. 

What? She did not just...

“Oh, hey, Ahyoung! How’s it going?” 

No way, she did not just invite people over after I told her not to. 

I felt my blood boil, but I tried to keep my calm. I was not going to make a scene, especially since Ahyoung was my friend. 

I locked eyes with Naeun, who I visibly glared at. 

“It’s chill, y/n, you don’t have to talk we are just gonna hang a bit and then go watch some TV.” 

I bit my tongue to not snap at her. Her insensitivity was rubbing me the wrong way, but I didn’t want to blow up. We were all adults here, I didn’t want to seem like a child who got irritated when they were forced to socialize with their mom’s friends. 

Soon, I heard another knock. 

“Hey, Sooyoung! Come in, we are picking a show to watch.” 

I tried to calm down and read my book, but when I say I want to be alone, I really mean I want to be alone. 

I felt myself boil over in anger as I could still hear them over my earbuds. Their laughter and constant chatter couldn’t be tuned out. 

“Ok, we are gonna go to the lounge and watch TV. High five!” Naeun held her hand right in front of my face and I hit it just to make her leave. I swear, I’d rather hit her face instead. 

As soon as I heard the door slam shut, I pulled out my earbuds and went to rinse my face. 

How insensitive of her! I explicitly told her not to invite anyone over to the dorm, and there she goes. She can’t walk up one flight of stairs to see our friends?? So fucking rude. 

Living in the dorms as an introverted person was terribly hard. I don’t even know if introverted is the right word for it anymore if I want to go days without talking to people. And it sucks when no one truly understands me and doesn’t take my words seriously. 

I groaned and stared at myself in the mirror.

“Just two more quarters and you’re free for the summer.” 

I sighed and wiped my face on my towel. 

College was hard. 

I had found my group in college, but unfortunately, I had made the same mistakes as I did in high school. First, I stayed connected with some friends from high school who I had planned on cutting off. And most importantly, I put too much time and effort into people who disrespect me and don’t care for me. 

And now I live with someone like that. 

It angered me to feel so out of place, so alone in the dorms even when I had friends. Whenever I wanted to escape, there was no where to go. All my friends were here. 

I clenched my fist. 

All of a sudden, I couldn’t just sit down and read. I glanced over in the corner of the room and saw the camera from my photography class sitting there. 

I looked outside my window and saw the soft snow falling down. 

I quickly pulled on a warm, puffy jacket, jeans, and headed out to take some photos with my trustworthy camera.

The air was colder than I remembered. I felt my nose crinkle as the wind blew snow into my nose. 

The city was beautiful; it was painted in white sparkles. I snapped a few photos and took a deep breath. 

I loved being outside and having no one notice me; this was one of my favorite things about living in the city and college in general. I snapped pictures of groups of people walking across the street. The blur of the street lights combined with the softness of the snow captivated me. 

“Some nice pics you got there.” 

I jumped at the voice and almost dropped my camera; thankfully, it’s always wrapped around my neck.

“Oh gosh, I’m so sorry! I didn’t think you’d get so scared.” 

I looked up and saw a boy around my age staring at me. And dang, was he cute. 

I thanked God for the weather because my cheeks were already red. 

“Uh, um, it’s fine.” I fibbed quickly. I felt awkward because I didn’t know how to act around guys my age, especially ones as cute as him. 

Be friendly, be friendly. He just wants to be friends.

“Um, I’m y/n by the way.” I took out my hand to shake his. He chuckled and reciprocated the action.

“Jihoon, Park Jihoon. You live in this building too?” He pointed at the building next door to me. I shook my head and watched as the snow fell onto my shoulders.

“Oh no, I live in this one.” He nodded. “Are you a freshman?” I asked. 

He laughed heartily. I liked how he didn’t hide his emotions. “Oh no, I’m a sophomore this year but I’m an RA in this building.” 

I made an “O” shape with my mouth. “Ah, a resident adviser. I’m applying to be one next year, kinda nervous but hopefully I’ll get the job.” 

His eyes widened. “Oh really? I rarely meet people who want to baby a bunch of freshmen.” I laughed at his comment. “But hey, it’d be cool if we were in the same dorm next year. You could teach me to take such pretty pictures.” I laughed and flipped through the photos on my camera out of habit.

“Don’t get your hopes up, I haven’t even been accepted for the job yet. Also, I’m taking photography 101 with Professor Lee Miyoung, I’m sure she’s a better teacher than I am.” I teased. 

He shrugged. “Well, I doubt she’s as pretty as you.” 

My heart froze. 

W-what? Did he just flirt with me? Oh god, what do I say now? How do I flirt back? I-

“Sorry, was that weird? I wanted to call you pretty but I didn’t mean to lowkey talk about a professor’s beauty either.” He looked mildly embarrassed when he shook out his hair full of snow. 

I gave him a small smile. “Um, no, not weird, it was actually kind of smooth. I don’t really know how to respond to flirting.” 

Oh my god. I just said that. 

His eyes lit up mischievously as I tried not to blush even harder.

“Oh flirting? Is that what we are doing?” He teased.

“Technically, that’s what you are doing.” He laughed loudly and his voice echoed throughout the streets. I only hoped to have that loud of a voice as an RA. 

“You got me there.” He then looked down at his watch and frowned. 

“What’s wrong?”

He looked up at me with his soft brown puppy eyes. I swear this guy is too cute to be real. “Um, my shift is starting soon.” He then took out his phone. “I know we just met, but you seem pretty cool-”

Before he could finish, I took his phone and typed in my number.

“There, now you can teach me how to be an RA and I can teach you how to take photos.” I said as confidently as I could. 

He seemed a bit surprised at my voice, but nodded.

“Sounds great, see you later.” He waved to be as he walked away, but slipped on a patch of snow. 

“Ah, be careful!” I shouted. He gave me a small smile and walked back into his dorm.

Well, at least this day ended on a high note.

“Hey, where’d you go last night? We were wondering where you were at.” 

I’m an adult, I don’t have to tell you everywhere I go.

I bit back the words and forced a small smile. “Oh, I just went to take some photos for my photography class. The snow looked really pretty last night.” I left out the minor detail that a cute boy started to talk to me. I wanted to keep the giddiness to myself. 

“Oh cool. I just came back from the gym. I saw a really cute boy in there. He was really fit, dark skinned, dark hair. And he smiled at me and I smiled back. We didn’t get to talk because I was so out of breath, but I hope he’s at the gym again.” She went off without me asking her too. 

I understand that I’m being a bit tough on her, but she irritated me first by inviting people over when I told her not to. People always talk about communication in college, but sometimes people just don’t listen to you. 

“Cool, hope you see him again.” I said nicely. I have to put on a nice face with my roommates, as I don’t want to be in an awkward living situation. 

“Yeah... how was your day today?”

“And then she just invited you guys over, disregarding what I had just said before! Isn’t that rude?” I voiced to Ahyoung, my best friend. I’d known her before going to college, well, I’ve known her since we were 8. 

She looked a bit hesitant on what to say. 

I went on about the situation. “I’m not saying I hate seeing you guys, but you know how I get when I want to be alone. I...I just want to be alone and it makes me crazy when I see people. Plus, I told Naeun I wanted to chill out and be alone and then she just invites you guys over, without telling me?? I’m not crazy.” I ranted. 

Ahyoung sighed and took a sip of her coffee filled with milk and sugar. 

“I mean, she did say she was inviting us over in the groupchat.” 

I glared at the younger girl. “Excuse me, I was sitting right next to her, she knows I didn’t check my phone. It’s rude to not tell your roommate you’re inviting people over, and it’s even ruder when we just talked about how I didn’t want her to invite people over. It’s not like she forgot within the five minutes.” 

“True. That wasn’t nice of her.” I noticed she hesitated on saying anything bad about her. We were all friends, but I was the one who had problems with friends in the group, as usual. I didn’t like very many people, but I was civil and nice to everyone; that’s what being an adult is all about. 

“Yeah...” I trailed off. I don’t know when it got so weird between us, but it felt like I couldn’t talk to my best friend about things in my life. I didn’t even tell her about the cute guy who flirted with me. Deep inside of me, I knew she didn’t deserve to know these things about me when she didn’t want to hear the bad parts of my life. 

It felt like everyone wants to be around me when I’m laughing and joking, never when I’m serious and want to talk about my feelings. No one wants to listen when I want to rant about real things in life, yet they love when someone rants about some “dumb” thing a girl did in the hallway. 

I didn’t get why they judged people before they knew them. I always tried to talk with people before I made judgements, yet people think it’s weird when I judge people I talk to. That’s the way you’re supposed to judge people... when you get to know them personally. Duh.

As I was talking, I saw her eyes focused on something far away from me. 

I turned around and saw her crush standing there. She stopped listening to me as he waved at her. I saw her eyes bright up when she saw him and I grew annoyed. I was telling her about something that was bothering me, and then she chooses a boy over me. Not cool. 

“Hello? Earth to Ahyoung??” I teased. She shrugged me off. 

“He’s so cute. I know he doesn’t like me, but I can’t help myself.” 

I snorted. “Yeah, he doesn’t like you and actually, he only dates white girls and you my friend, are not white.” I knew I was being harsh, but I hear about him every single second and it angers me when I want to vent about something in my life and she doesn’t think I’m as important as her crush.

She flinched at my harsh words. 

“You just wouldn’t understand, you’ve never had a crush before. You’ve never been in love before.” She said matter of factly. 

Ouch. 

This was all true, but it hurt when she said it like that. I’ve never felt romantic love, wow, thanks for reminding me. Maybe I’m too busy taking care of my dumb friends who don’t care about me.

“Bye, see you later.” I waved her off as we both went to class.

As soon as I turned around, I saw a familiar face. 

Jihoon. 

I fixed my hair and prayed none of my mascara had smeared on my face.

“Hey, Jihoon.” He turned around with a confused look on his face. I felt a leap in my heart when he smiled at me.

“Oh hey y/n, it’s weird to see you without a camera.” He joked. 

I felt my heart skip a beat when he said my name; I was so used to people forgetting about me. 

“Hah, well it’s weird to see you in the daylight.” I joked. When I saw him left an eyebrow, I knew I said something wrong. 

I felt my face burn up at my own words. 

“Not like that.” I blubbered out. He let out a light laugh. 

“Well, I mean, you’re right.” He took note of my embarrassed state and changed the subject. “So, what class are you headed to?”

“History of the Ancient Greek and Roman worlds, how bout you?” 

“Woah, what an interesting class. I’m heading to choir practice actually.” That made me stop in my tracks.

“Wait, you sing?” 

He chuckled. “Yup, that is what you do in choir.” I felt a bit embarrassed at my statement. “I’m joking, I’m joking, but yes, I do sing. Have been doing so for my whole life.”

“I did choir up until high school, I didn’t feel good enough for college. I still don’t know how to read music and it’s been years.” 

“It’s hard, but you get used to it. You should give it a shot if you really want to though. Or come watch one of our performances.” I smiled at him.

“One day.” I stopped walking and pointed at the building in front of us. “This is me. I’ll see you later?” 

He nodded and smiled. 

“I’ll see you later.”

Two weeks had passed and I hadn’t seen much of Jihoon. We waved to each other in passing, but it was midterms soon, and exams were the only thing on my mind. We sent each other memes daily though and we just got each other’s humor- that was rare. 

I was filling out my history study guide until I heard my roommate, Naeun, walk in.

“Hey, y/n~ Ahyoung, Sooyoung and I saw you talking to a boy yesterday~ Oooooooo what’s his name?” 

She sat right in front of me, not giving me any personal space. 

I tried not to blush but honestly, my face was turning red because I was so annoyed at her.

“His name is Jihoon. He’s an RA in the dorm next to us, we met at an RA informational meeting.” I lied. I didn’t want to tell her I ran out of the dorm because I couldn’t handle her and people.

“He’s cute, nice body too.” I felt a an overwhelming sense of jealously and protectiveness wash over me. I hated it. I didn’t want to be this person. I probably only felt this way because I didn’t like Naeun right now. 

“Yeah, you can have him if you want. I’m not into him.” I lied. 

She raised a brow. “Really? Don’t be upset if he falls for me then.” I knew she was joking when she flipped her hair dramatically, but I wasn’t into it. 

I felt my buried insecurities rise when I stared intensely at her face. Her eyebrows were neatly plucked, which I was always too scared to do. Her skin was tanned and even, not blotchy and red like mine. Her fashion was trendy and most boys liked her because of her socialness, on the contrary, I was awkward and mean to boys, unintentionally. 

I just went back to doing my homework, shaking off the comparison.

Later that night, I saw a message pop up in my texts which was weird because I usually mute everyone.

‘hey midterms are killing me and i dont understand anything... want ice cream?’ 

I tried not to laugh even though both my roommates were at the library. 

‘uhhh shouldnt u be studying if u dont understand anything?? mayb??’ 

‘LOL thats not how it works young padawan’ I rolled my eyes. He thinks he’s so much older than me. 

‘also I don’t eat ice cream, i don’t eat dairy’

‘... aight imma head out’ 

I snorted and tilted my head back in laughter. 

‘ok, no ice cream... what DO you like?’

You. I like you. 

... Definitely not sending that.

‘UMMM i like hot chocolate?’ 

‘okay, i’ll be at your dorm in 5. what is your room number again?’

I looked down at short shorts and tank top and then at the harsh winds outside. I threw on a pair of cute leggings and a heavy sweater. I put on a black jacket over it and placed a beanie on my head. 

I did my brows and put on a few swipes of mascara. I carefully applied my lightly colored lip balm and sprayed face mist to look dewy and cute. 

Is this a date? Or is this just two friends being adventurous? 

Whatever, I want to look cute at least.

Seconds after I finish, I hear a knock at my door. I took a deep breath.

This isn’t a date. This isn’t a date. Calm down.

I opened the door. 

He was wearing a puffy jacket and dark black jeans that outlined his thigh muscles. Yum.

I also noticed he was wearing a gray beanie... which was identical to mine.

“Cute hat.” I noted. He grinned and tugged on my beanie. 

“Same goes for you. Ready for some hot chocolate?” 

“Yes, where are we going to get said chocolate caliente?” 

Jihoon gave me a weird look. “Chocolate what?” 

I stared at him, stunned. “Chocolate caliente. Caliente means hot in Spanish. Therefore, hot chocolate. You didn’t take Spanish in high school?” 

He shook his head. “Nope, I took Japanese because I’m a weeb.” I snorted. 

“Wow, I should be surprised but I’m not.” He pushed me playfully and I tried not to freak out over the warmth of his skin. 

“You’re telling me you don’t watch any anime?” 

I rolled my eyes. “Of course I watch some anime. But am I full blown weeb... no.” 

He narrowed his eyes at me. “I can change that, don’t worry.”

“You still didn’t tell me where we are going.” My fingers felt crisp from the cold air. It wasn’t snowing tonight, but the ground was still white. 

“Aha, we are going to my favorite cafe called ‘Pink Heart Cafe’. It is decked in pink hearts.” 

“As expected from a Pink Heart Cafe.” I joked. In the near distance, I noticed a sign that had a baby pink heart that wrote ‘Pink Heart Cafe’ in cute lettering. 

I crinkled my nose from the cold air. “What, you don’t like pink?” 

“No, no, I love the color pink actually. It’s just kinda cold out here.” He nodded. 

“Maybe it would be warmed if we held hands... maybe.” 

For the first time, I felt comfortable with someone’s flirtatious comment.

I smirked and hooked my hand with his. I felt my heart beater faster. Much faster. And I loved it. 

I saw him smile widely and hide it with his hair. 

“I’m a lucky guy.” He whispered. 

We walked into the cafe. 

“Hi! Welcome to Pink Heart Cafe, for here or to go?” 

“For here, please.” The woman nodded. 

“Please take a seat. We will come take your order soon.”

We took our seats in the corner, next to the pink fairy lights. I was in love with the aesthetic. 

“Cute place. And fancy it seems, they come take our order at the table.” I sang a bit of Twice’s Fancy. 

“Oh gosh, you love Twice?? Me too!” I shrugged nonchalantly. 

“I mean, I like them, their songs are cute and catchy but I’m not a diehard fan.” 

He frowned. I can change that too. 

I sighed and rolled my eyes dramatically. “Wow, it seems like there are a lot of things you want to change about me. What do you even like about me?” I teased. 

He smiled harder and I noticed a blush on his face. 

“Uhhh, that’s a good question. I like... I like how you’re honest with your emotions. I like how you’re good at photography. I like that you want to become an RA because of the money and--” I gasped and pushed him on the arm.

“That’s not the only reason! Yes... the pay is good, but I like helping people.” 

Our laughter died down as he gazed at me intensely. 

“You like helping people? Tell me more about that.” 

I paused. No one had asked me that before. 

“Um, no one’s asked me that before. I guess I just like to see people happy. I like appealing to people’s emotions and most times, I’m pretty good at making people like me.” I said honestly. I saw his face light up at my words. “And I also want to be a teacher after I graduate, so being an RA would help improve my social skills and teach me how to interact with those younger than me and work through their problems. I don’t know, people say it’s hard and that it can be tough if kids come to you with suicidal thoughts and feelings of anxiety and depression, but I mean, I just want to do it and give back to the community somehow... I don’t know. ” I mumbled off, feeling like I said too much.

His gaze was so serious, I was scared I bored him to death.

He leaned closer to me and I freaked out. I held my breath, waiting for what was next until he spoke. 

“You’re so awesome.” He finally said. 

That... that was surprising.

“Um, thanks?”

“I’m serious! That’s so amazing why you want to be an RA. Honestly, I took up this job because it pays well and I’m good at talking to people, but sometimes I couldn’t care less about my residents. I like how you’re so kind to people.”

I laughed, “I’m not that nice.” 

“Yeah right, you were nice to me the first time we met. And I could’ve been a creepy dude and I almost made you break your camera.” 

“Well, I was nice to you because you are a cute boy.” He choked on his drink at my blunt words. I grew shy all of a sudden and laughed with him. 

“Jesus, give a boy a warning before you say such words.” He was pink in the face and I felt my heart warm. 

“It’s true, you are attractive. But it is also true that I’m not nice. My roommate is irritating the heck out of me and I have to tell myself every time I talk to her to say nice things and not hurt her feelings ‘cause she’s so damn sensitive.” 

He paused for a moment. I was nervous he would think I was a bad person. Which... technically is what I’m trying to convince him of. 

“Wow, you just got ten times nicer.” Now it was my turn to choke on my drink. 

“What? I just told you I have to force myself to be nice to my roommate even though I just want to snap at her all the time.” 

Jihoon leaned back in his chair with a smug look on his face. “Exactly! Most people would’ve just called her a bitch and moved on! Moved out or from what I’ve seen, some girls do mean shit like throwing another girl’s clothes out of her closet or flirting with her boyfriend. You... you just be nice when someone is mean to you.”

“She’s not mean, just rubbing me the wrong way.” Jihoon rolled his eyes.

“See? You are still defending her even though I’m sure she’s putting you through more than other people would take.” 

I shrugged. “I don’t know, most people don’t take me seriously when I talk about it.” 

“Try me.” 

I hesitated at first, but when I saw his open and honest look, I spilled.

“Well, I’m quite an introverted person so I need my alone time. And when I told her, this was actually the night that I met you, um, I told her that I wanted to be alone. And then she invited people over to the room and yes, they left soon, but when I’m in my isolation mood, I just... I just don’t even want to look at people.” 

He stared at me with a curious look so I rambled on. “I know, it’s dumb-”

He placed a gentle hand on top of mine.

“No, that’s not dumb at all. She should’ve respected your words. I would be so mad. Give me more!” He pounded his fist on the table for dramatic effect. 

I felt my heart lighten when he wanted to hear more of my words. I was so used to people ignoring me and brushing over my concerns.

“Uh, well, just... well not just Naeun, my roommate, but some of my friends in the same dorm as me. They are just really judgmental and the negativity just pains me. I don’t like judging others before getting to know them, so hearing them talk bad about random people they don’t know just pains me. And I’m no saint, yes I judge people, but I make sure I talk to them first and get to know them before I make judgments.”

Jihoon smiled. “You keep getting better the more I get to know you. I do the same thing, my friends think I’m crazy when I say ‘hey that dude looks kinda mean and no one likes him, i’ll be friends with him’!” 

My eyes widened. “Oh my god, that’s how I met most of my friends!” 

We laughed as we bad mouthed our friends and the people who have hurt us. 

“Why do you stick with such crappy friends? No offense, you deserve so much better.” 

I shrugged. “I mean, everyone says that to me and truly, I don’t even know. I just feel so connected to them now and they have their good moments-”

“Good moments aren’t enough if they consistently hurt you.”

“I know, I know! I just... maybe I’m not that good of a person then if I stay with them. Like people say, you are who your friends are.” 

“That’s bull, you’re a good person, I know that. And your friends don’t even care to listen to you rant, I can tell I’m the first person you told all this stuff too because you have flames in your eyes. You deserve friends you can trust and are able to rant to. I promise.” 

I bit my lip, thinking of what to say. 

“Thank you, I guess I just think I am helping them by staying with them. I don’t want to hurt their feelings.” 

“Just know that you have me now, and if you ever need to rant or vent or whatever, I’m here for you. You have me now.” 

I felt a wave of emotion wash over me. No one’s ever said that to me before and meant it. I know he meant it, it was written all over his face. 

I nodded slowly, accepting the moment we were having. 

We sat in a moment of silence until the waiter came for the check.

I dug through my pockets to get out the ten dollar bill I stuffed in there. 

“Hah funny,” Jihoon chided when he whipped out his card before I could do anything. I gasped. 

“Ah, Jihoon, I brought money!” 

He tsked and stood when the waiter gave him his card back. “Yeah right, I’d never let a girl pay on the first date, that’s like... illegal.” I rolled my eyes, until I realized what he had just admit.

“Date?” I questioned carefully. 

He looked away from my gaze, like he didn’t mean to say the word. 

“Yes... date. Do you have a problem with that?” 

I grinned.

“Nope.”

YES!!!

My fiance and I got approved for food stamps and assistance today!! And I know, I know "get a job, you don't have kids and you're young, you shouldn't be relying on the government."

We've been trying... seriously. We're staying with my grandfather right now because we are homeless after everything with my landlord and Nana a few months ago. And we have a shitty, broken down car that barely makes it around town... so everything has been really fucked up and hard. But my Aunt suggested that we apply for SNAP until we get a job because we have NO food... I mean literally all we have right now is half a gallon of milk, a carton of eggs and a bag of rice and a couple cans of green beans. We are on our last leg right now and struggling really fucking hard.

We've applied to 2 places and haven't heard anything back. And the third place told us that they wouldn't know they had any jobs for 2 more weeks and they'd call us back.... so we have really been at a loss for what to do. And we are out of time with waiting.

So we applied for assistance today and we got it! So in a week we should get our card and be able to finally get some groceries!! Ya'll have no idea how excited I am to actually have some real food... it's fucking pitiful. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

But!! The best part is... they'll help us look for a job!! Our case worker is going to meet with us in probably about 10 days (I believe is what she said) and she'll give us a list of places that have sent her applications and we can fill out applications through them and she will send them back for us. Her doing this means we have a MUCH MUCH higher chance of getting a job, and quickly!!! So hopefully in a couple weeks we'll have new jobs and actually get back on our fucking feet!!!!!

Ugh. I'm so glad we went today and are now heading in the right direction! I've been trying so hard and my dad cut me off and said he wasn't helping me anymore, but then bitched me out because I don't have a job yet. Which didn't make any sense because how the hell was I supposed to get a job without a reliable car or gas money... and he cut me off so...??? Also how the fuck would you expect me to work with no food... I've done that shit before and made myself so sick I legit thought I might die. I seriously thought about going to the hospital and I hate hospitals... I don't ever want to feel like that again... that shit was bad.

My dad is a whole other problem... his only concern right now is my pregnant 17 year old stepsister and her baby, so I'm just a fucking nuisance to him. He keeps bitching and telling me to get a job, but hasn't ONCE offered to help me or sent me anything about places even hiring! Even though I've literally asked for his help several fucking times and he says he will... but he NEVER DOES. I never hear anything back until he has to pay for something else and wants to bitch at me again. He pays my car insurance and for my storage unit... but he pays for my stepsiblings insurances as well and they live with him!! He's constantly taking them out to do stuff (movie theater, fast food, trips, etc.) and keeps groceries in the house... but he acts like him doing 2 simple things to help me out right now (when I most fucking need it) is just too much to ask!? And I'm his only biological fucking kid... but I get treated like I don't belong and I'm just a problem to him.

I'm just fucking sick of everything and so damn ready to have a job and get my own place again. And as soon as I get stable again I'm done with my dad. I'm telling him to stop paying for shit for me and I'll deal with it myself, I'm tired of the guilt tripping. You can't go blow $400 on your new family but then tell me that you can't give me $20 to get something to eat or to put gas in my car... fuck that bullshit. He just doesn't give a fuck about me or want to do anything for me. He never has. He left my mom and I to be homeless before... he literally refused to take me in when my mom became homeless. I had to stay with her at her friends house and watch my mom sleep on their couch while I shared bunk beds with their son. My mom hated it and worked herself to death to get us out of that situation while all my dad did was sit in his 3 bedroom house and smoke pot with his buddies. He would hardly take me on the weekends, let alone take care of me for a month or two.

I'm just glad to finally have some real help and hopeful that things will get better. And I'm glad I didn't need his help to do it. ✌

“Jess, I’m not in the mood to go out.” You grabbed your wallet and put it back in your purse after paying the waitress for your lunch.

“We’ve barely seen you since you’ve been back.” She argued.

“You’ve shut all of us out.” You looked at Mark who had tagged along. It used to feel normal to hang out with him even though he was your ex, but after JK it felt wrong and made you feel uncomfortable. You didn’t know how to explain it to anyone because you weren’t ready to talk about your trip. You had kept your experience very vague for the most part and eventually they gave up asking.

“I’m not asking you to go to a club Y/N, it's just a bar downtown. I’ll even pay for your drinks.” Jess was practically begging for you to join them but all you wanted to do was go home.

“Maybe next time, I’m tired and I really just wanna go home and sleep.” Your excuse was partly true, you were definitely tired but you didn’t think you would be able to sleep even if you wanted to. Sleep wasn’t something that came easily anymore.

“You always say that!” she huffed. Mark put his hands on her shoulders to calm her down.

“Let it go Jess, she obviously has made up her mind.” His voice sounded like he was annoyed at you but you didn’t care anymore. All of your friends were irritated or mad at you because you completely cut everyone off without warning. You had barely talked to them while you were in Korea and your excuse was the price to call or send a text was a lot, when truthfully you had pretty much forgotten about your friends while you were gone and part of you felt guilty for it.

Your friends gave up and left you standing in front of the building. You sighed and made your way towards your car. You wished that you were able to get out of this funk that you were in. It had been almost three months since you came back and you still felt just as shitty as the day you landed in LA. The drive home went by quickly and you pulled up to the curb of your parent’s house and turned off the car. Grabbing your purse you locked your car and walked up the drive and through the front door.

“I’m home!” you yelled out as you hung your keys up on the hook by the door.

“We’re in the living room!” your step dad’s voice called back.

You made your way to the living room and plopped down on the couch without much else being said. If there was one thing you liked about your stepfather it was that he didn’t pry and he didn’t try to make small talk and was perfectly fine with silence, unlike your mother. You yawned as he flipped through the channel and stopped on the local news. It was boring and the weatherman had basically said get ready for hot weather, but this was nothing new in California.

“If you haven’t heard of BTS, well, you’re going to. The septet was invited to this year's Billboard Music Awards after being nominated for Top Social Artist. They’re a kpop group with millions of fans around the globe and going up against the reigning king Justin Bieber, who has won for the last seven years.” Your eyes were frozen on the TV as the anchor showed clips of their music videos and pictures in the background. You felt your stomach sink as a picture of JK flashed across the screen. “BTS is the first kpop group to be nominated for a Billboard Music Award and could end up making history in six days so make sure you tune in Sunday at seven for the 2017 Billboard Music Awards.”

You were frozen as the information sunk in. JK and his members had been nominated for a BBMA which was huge. You were so proud of them and knew that they deserved it after seeing just how passionate they are about their work. You smiled and grabbed your phone to text JK and wishing him luck but stopped. Texting him would open a door that you had tried so hard to keep closed.

Instead, you opted to send Jimin a congratulatory text. Switching your phone keyboard to Hangul you typed out a quick message and sent it to him over Kakao Talk. You leaned back and sighed hoping that you wouldn’t regret sending it. You hoped that Jimin would keep the text to himself and not tell JK that you had texted him because that would just give JK false hope that you wanted to continue your relationship with them. Because this was a huge accomplishment and a big deal you decided to break the rule you had set for yourself, just this once, because you were proud of them.

Knowing that you needed to take your mind off of them because you didn’t want to tempt yourself to contact them more than you already had, you decided to go apply online for jobs. You needed money so you could move out of your parent’s house and have space from your overly concerned mother, plus living at home at your age felt like you didn’t have your shit together when in reality it was because you had spent so much of your savings in Korea that you didn’t want to use anymore to get an apartment.

You decided that now would probably be a good chance to check your email to see if any possible job opportunities had emailed you back. You sat down at your laptop and ran your finger along the trackpad to wake it up. You clicked the email icon and waited for your inbox to load. The fourth email down caught your attention since it was from the only place you even got jobs from anymore. Once you came back from Korea you decided to sign up allowing your translating skills to be exploited for money but it was rare an event happened where it was needed. You clicked on the email to open it.

We know this is short notice but we’re in desperate need of a translator at the request of Billboard for their award shows. You’re the only person on our list that is available during this time and you’re pretty much our last hope before they start looking elsewhere. If you are able to attend and work as a translator it would be much appreciated. You leaned back in your chair in disbelief. Why would you have to be the only person available to be translating during the BBMAs? You knew that JK and his group would be there and that was the only reason they required your services, but at the same time, you really needed the money. “This is ridiculous.” You stood and pushed your chair out so you could walk over to your bed and fall back and stare at the ceiling. You chewed your bottom lip as you mulled over the possible scenarios that could happen if you actually agreed to go as a translator.

The shrill ring of your cell phone caused you to jump. You grabbed it and answered it quickly, “Hello?”

“Y/N, it’s Jimin.” Korean flowed through the speakers and into your ear and part of it brought peace hearing the familiar language. Once you realized what they said you pulled your phone away to see Jimin’s name showing as the caller ID. You hadn’t expected Jimin to call you, if anything, the most you had expected was a thank you as a reply.

You brought the phone back to your ear, “H-hey Jimin.” You switched to Korean easily and sat up on your bed.

“How have you been?” You could tell that Jimin was trying to make the awkwardness of the call dissipate.

Deciding to be honest you told him exactly how you were doing, “Awful, but I’m surviving. It’s been a lot harder to come back here than I thought it would be.” It felt good to even say that out loud to someone other than Jackson. “Also, I’ve been wanting to apologize about how I reacted the last time we talked on the phone.” Shame ran through you at the memory. You hadn’t been home but a week when Jimin had called. You were barely holding yourself together and he had called at one of your weakest moments. You had aggressively told him to not have any of the members contact you because you needed to forget JK and that whole part of your life. It wasn’t your finest moment and you had been too embarrassed to call and apologize but also the fear of undoing all the progress you had made since then.

“Don’t worry about it. It was a hard time for the both of you. You weren’t the only one snapping at people.” You were sure his words were meant to make you feel better but picturing JK snapping at his brothers made you feel guilty, especially since the scene from the video Jackson had shown you played in your mind.

“In hopes of not sounding too harsh, why did you call me?” You were already fidgeting with your sheets before he answered. You prayed that he wasn’t going to ask you to meet with JK and that hopefully he just randomly really felt the need to say hi.

“Ah…right.” You heard him sigh, “I know how you feel about everything that happened, but JK still isn’t okay. He’s barely sleeping and eating and this has been going on for months. You know I would never call and ask you this if it wasn’t bad, but Y/N I can’t get through to him…none of us can. If you could just call him or—”

“Jimin I can’t.” your voice cracked and you silently cursed at your body’s betrayal. “Look I’m not doing so great either but us talking will only make things worse, especially since you guys will be here next week. Being that close to each other after talking would be too difficult, I won’t do that to him.”

“Y/N please just hear me out—”

“Jimin. I already have a company trying to get me to be a translator for the show and despite needing money I’m going to turn it down because I don’t know if I could handle seeing him.”

“Y/N! He’s only sleeping two to three hours a night and he’s eating maybe one meal a day since we’ve been on tour and you know how hard our choreography is. He’s passed out a few times already and I can’t get him to listen to me. He doesn’t talk to anyone, he doesn’t smile, he doesn’t laugh and he looks like he’s just given up on everything. We can’t mention your name or he may end up spiraling again where he’s not sleeping at all. I don’t know how much longer he can do this Y/N. If anything, just talk to him so he can get closure because he never got to say anything to you because you left before he could and you never took his calls. After all of the things he did to make you feel comfortable in his life and to do everything he could to keep you a secret like you wanted, you won’t give him the decency to talk to you so maybe he can actually move on? Do you not want him to? Are you okay with torturing him?” Jimin’s voice had raised as he continued to talk shocking you and causing you to freeze as you listened to him. Your hands were shaking and you could tell your cheeks had become wet from tears as you listened to him almost yell at you. Hearing how affected JK was made it feel like the breath had been sucked out of you. You blinked a few times causing a few more tears to fall before wiping them away.

“Jimin...I’m sorry.” Your voice barely above a whisper before ending the call. You took deep breaths trying to control your emotions so you wouldn’t become a sobbing mess. It seemed that neither of you were handling your time apart very well and his members were suffering along with him. You knew how JK got when you stopped talking to him before so it wasn’t hard to imagine just how bad it was. You sighed and glanced over at your laptop where the email was still pulled up asking for you to be a translator at the awards. Jimin’s words continued to run through your mind and no matter how hard you tried to think of something else his voice would overpower those thoughts and remind you of your conversation with him.

You wiped away any other tears that fell and got off the bed and walked over to your laptop and sat down in front of it.

I can translate the event if you can promise me the following:

-I won’t come in contact with the group BTS

-that I will stay off camera at all times.

-that the group BTS will not know I’m working the event

If you can assure those things I will be a translator at the BBMAs for all staff at the even since Kim Namjoon (the leader) is fluent in English and can translate for BTS himself.

You weren’t sure if agreeing to this was a good idea but you figured if what Jimin was saying was true then he was right. You never gave JK the opportunity for closure and that wasn’t fair to him but at the time it seemed like the best option. You were proud of them and even though you hadn’t seen them or talked to them in months you were glad you were going to be able to witness something they all strived so hard for.

Sylvie was with ramon in the back of the ambo. Her clothes where covered in blood. Gabby was weaving in and out of traffic, trying to get to med. All sylvie could do was try to keep ramon stabilized. Sylvie "Ramon, you need to keep your eyes open. Gabby and antonio need you to fight." She continued to apply pressure to his stab wound. Trying to keep him alive. He coded in the ambulance. Sylvie started chest compressions. The ambulance rolled up to med. The doctors where waiting for them. Since it was a family member, everyone wanted to help. As they were wheeling ramon in, sylvie was kneeling on the stretcher still doing compressions. Sylvie "Ramon coded 2 minutes ago. Stab wounds. Tried to control the bleeding." Sylvie had tears in her eyes. Dr halstead " ok sylvie we got it from here." He helped her down. Maggie "we're going to Bagdad people. Someone page Dr Rhodes. Also the blood bank, we need as much as possible. Gabby and antonio you need to let them do their job. Your dad is getting the best care possible." She motioned over to sylvie, who was standing in shock. Completely covered in blood. Gabby went over and hugged her friend. "I know you did your best." Sylvie "Maybe this time my best wasn't enough. Dr Rhodes walked in "Ramon lost a lot of blood. He pulled through the surgery. Now we wait to have his body heal. Hopefully he'll wake up soon. But right now the machines are breathing for him. The next 24-48 hours are critical. We'll be able to know more later." Antonio "is he going to wake up? Is he going to be normal?" Dr Rhodes "we will check his brain function shortly, to check and see if there is any brain activity." Gabby "if there shows no brain activity, that is bad." Dr Rhodes "I am hopeful that it'll all be ok. We are doing the best we can. I'm hoping you and your brother don't have to make any decisions regarding his care." Both dawson siblings just stood there, both shocked at the news. Sylvie "Maybe gabby and antonio you should go see him. Hearing your voices could help." Matt took gabby's hand, as they were about to go to his room. Antonio looked at sylvie "can you be with me, going to see my dad?" Sylvie took antonio's hand "of course." Walking in the room, everyone gasped. Antonio gripped sylvie's hand tighter. Antonio sat down in a recliner and pulled sylvie onto his lap. Gabby and matt did the same. Both couples feel asleep. Although antonio and sylvie's current state was a little more complicated. Antonio woke up, a familiar scent made him smile. He looked at her, knowing she could of left during all this. But she stayed with him, she didn't run away. Why was he so stupid to let her go. He saw her big blue eyes open. Sylvie smiled "Antonio." Antonio caressed her face "thank you for being here with me." Sylvie "there is no place I'd rather be, then with you." Antonio looked at his dad. His eyes were open "dad squeeze my hand." He did. "Gabby he's awake." Sylvie "I'll go get the doctor." Sylvie "sure, but I need to go home and shower and change first." Antonio "ok, lead the way." He drove her to her apartment. Sylvie "Cruz and otis are out for the day. So come in and wait. It shouldn't be to long." Sylvie took a shower and got dressed. "You know antonio I could cook, so we don't have to go out to eat. Or we could order in. Your pick." Antonio "Let's order Chinese food, that way we can talk." Sitting on the couch both of them eating Chinese food like they always used to do. Like no time has passed. Trust me my family drama can be pretty intense. My parents always accepted me, loved me like I was their own daughter by birth. Being adopted, I always felt loved by my parents. But the rest of my extended family wasn't as accepting of me." Antonio "when did you find out you were adopted?" Sylvie "it was never a secret. I've always known. It just makes me wonder why I my biological parents didn't want me." Antonio "you are an incredible person. You deserve someone who will love you unconditionally. Unemployed in December

Aaaaand it’s December again! I’m honestly glad that 2020 will be over soon. Everything had gone downhill for me (and for a lot of people, I can assume) since the beginning of this year. I can only hope that the new year will bring me good things this time.

When I first started writing this post, I really couldn’t think of what title would be best. All I could think of are negative things (oops). I am trying my best to stay positive though, and I am grateful for all the things that I have right now.

Maybe it’s because I’m just miffed with what happened. A couple weeks ago, I had 2 jobs that I was seriously being considered for. The first one was something I had applied to over a month ago. I had not heard back from them until nearly 4 weeks after. I thought I just didn’t get the job. (I say job even though it’s for a training session. Then they will offer employment upon successful completion of their training program) And since then, I had also been applying to other jobs. The second job I found was something I could feel that I would really enjoy doing - and for a relatively reputable company.

The interview process with the second job seemed to have gone really well. I’m just going to sound confident - and claim that I think both the interviewers really liked me! So I walked out the door feeling very positive that I will get that job. Fast forward to the next interview - and that went kind of okay(??). I could tell there was something off, but I just couldn’t put my finger on it.

On the same day of the second interview for that second job, I also had my last interview with the first job I applied for. It was kind of super unexpected that they still contacted me honestly. At first I thought maybe I was their back-up person on the list of candidates, but I guess they just did the interviewing later than they should have...

So there I was, waiting for the email (or phone call) of whether I got accepted for the job or not. At this time, I was really expecting to get the second job I had applied for. I thought that it would look really good on my resume, and it’s a job that I would enjoy doing. 

I received an email after a couple days - and this email is from the first job I had applied for. They said that I am accepted into the training program that will begin coming Monday of that week. I was excited that I’m finally offered employment (even though it’s training, I still get paid for the training period). However I was still very interested in the second job. So I thought, I will reply some time at a later date...

Another day had passed, and I finally receive an email from the second job! Unfortunately - they are offering me a different position. Huh. It’s for a more technical job, (read: more stressful job) and I feel like it’s because I had an IT background. They wrote to me assuring that they will make sure to tailor the position fit for me. And idk, but something didn’t feel quite right. It just seemed... off.

Fast forward: I had accepted that job and went in for that. It was just a world of mess and stress. The guy who had emailed me assuring that the job will be tailored for me DID NOT know wtf was going on. He made me start as soon as possible (in his email saying the next day) - he made it sound like it’s extremely urgent and that everything’s set up and they’re just waiting for the candidate to show up. But no.

I came in there and my boss didn’t even exactly know what to do with me. They say they are all very happy to have me though. I noticed that it seems like my employment there was pre-mature(??) They definitely needed to hire someone for support for various things, however with how messed up things were - they couldn’t even figure out how I was going to do my work in order to help them.

Ending: I lasted three days. I showed up on my fourth day just to let my boss know this isn’t working, and that I felt like I’m just in everyone’s way as they don’t really know how or what task to give me. 

He offered to ask the hiring people on my behalf if the original position I had applied for was still available - and that maybe I could just do that work instead. At first, it sounded real tempting, however I just felt like I didn’t have a face to show to that place after my three days. And maybe, I just didn’t want to be a part of that mess anymore. . .  After the talk, I had left and went home.

I got home and just felt numb. Nothing worked out. And in-between those days that I was working there, we also had a covid scare. Results came out negative so everything is okay now, though. But it was just... a lot of stress within less than a week.

The following day, I had sent an email reply (finally) to the first job. At this point I still haven’t replied to them to confirm that I still wanted to join the training session. They had actually emailed me again saying that they had reached full capacity as well. However, that there was another training session to start on January; and that I should fill out a form if I’m interested.

I had replied apologizing that I didn’t get to join the training. And that I am very interested in joining the next one.

And that brings us to the present. Up to now, still have not heard anything back from them. I even sent another email, and also reached out to them via their website. I wonder if they just banned me - because I just randomly stopped replying when it was go time. Or maybe the same thing is happening again, and they aren’t reviewing candidates until last second. . .

I’ve been a little depressed about all that. I feel like all of it would have been avoided if only I had been honest with myself. 

While I do have background in IT - it really isn’t something I’m interested in pursuing as a career anymore. If only I had just admitted that to them in the first place, and just insisted on the original position I applied for. Maybe I should have said no, I am not interested in the new position they were offering. 

Another long post. lol it seems like the only time I really feel like posting here is when I want to vent. But that’s okay.

So here’s to waiting for the new year. Hopefully I hear back from the first job and that I get to start in January. Otherwise, I’ll go look for something else... Here’s to hoping 2021 will be a better year for me.

It had been a couple hours since Lisa had arrived and had been been in the medical room with Mark. The others kept trying to calm you down, telling you he’ll be alright.

After what seemed like eternity, Lisa finally came out, “Don’t worry he’ll be fine he just needs time and rest. I know how much of an important role he plays but please, let him take his time to heal.” All of the boys nodded in agreement.

“Can we see him?” you asked, the worry kept eating at you, all you wanted was to see him. It’s honestly really surprising how fast you’ve come to care and fall for him. But it didn’t matter because all you wanted to do was protect him from anything that could ever harm him.

“Yes he’s awake, he was actually asking for you.” Your heart fluttered at her words. On the outside you seemed fine but on the inside you were squealing like a little school girl who just found out her crush liked her back.

You made your way into the room, there he laid, hooked up to a bunch of machines. The sight made your heart hurt, how did this even happen to him?

“Hey you, how are you feeling?” He looked so weak and so fragile that you felt his bones would break with any slight movement, his face pale, lips dry and parted.

“Besides the fact that I’ve just been shot, lost a shit ton of blood and almost died, I’m doing pretty well actually,” he said in a sarcastic voice, you playfully pouted and clenched where your heart is pretending to be hurt. “If this is how you’re going to act then i best be on my way,” you turned on your heels and made you way towards the door. You knew he wasn’t going to let you go that easily.

“Alright bye,” you stopped in your tracks completely dumbfounded. How dare he you thought. Turning around you placed your hands on your hips, “Are you seriously about to let me go Mark?” his lips turned into a slight smirk. “I knew you weren’t going to leave if I told you that, and look I was right.”

“For someone that almost died you seem awfully cocky.” you said while walking towards the side of his bed, pulling a chair next to him. While grabbing his hand you noticed how cold he had felt. How much warmth he lacked throughout his entire body. Would it have been too soon to ask him what had happened to him to even be in this position? You hesitated for a bit, but made up your mind.

“If you don’t mind me asking, how did this happen to you?”

“Okay Jackson and Jaebum you two go that way and I’ll go this way.” Mark said while also signaling his fingers.

“Nuh-uh dude we’re not splitting up, at least not here, you know how it is here.”

“Yeah Jackson’s right we stick together no matter what.” Mark let out a defeated sigh as he agreed with the two other boys. “Fine, but I’m going to lead I’d rather have something happen to me than to have either of you hurt.” Jackson and Jaebum only nodded, knowing they weren’t going to be able to change his mind.

“Tell me again why we agreed to do this? We’re literally asking to be killed.”

“Oh for the love of God will you please be quiet? Someone could he-“ The sound of a loud gunshot had interrupted Mark, but what also interrupted him was the bullet that went right through the side of his stomach.

Both boys cursed, then turning to the direction to where the shot came from, successfully shooting the man down. Luckily there was only one, they picked up Mark’s body trying to hurry to their car. Jackson got into the driver’s seat while Jaebum had Mark in his lap, holding his head.

Mark’s eyes started to roll to the back of his head, “No no Mark stay with me we’re almost there please just hang in there.” He started to mumble words, unfortunately Jaebum couldn’t seem to make out what he was saying.

All he could do was apply pressure to the wound, hopefully stopping the bleeding a little bit, at least a bit.

As he finished explaining you hadn’t noticed how wet your eyes were, how there were tear stains on the side of your cheeks. Memories of Wonho flooded your head, seeing his blood covered body made your heart ache. It made you feel useless, sure you didn’t have any feelings for the man anymore but that didn’t mean it still didn’t pain you when you saw the life being sucked right out of him, that didn’t mean he didn’t hold a place in your heart.

Mark’s face softened when he realized you had been crying, he hated seeing you cry. His protective instincts led him to draw you closer, and he did so by reaching out for your arm and pulling you in. He didn’t ask why you were crying, knowing how he wouldn’t get an answer assuming from the amount of sobs you were letting out. His arm was kept around your waist, pulling you closer.

“Shsh it’s okay I’m here, let it out Y/N.”

“I already lost one person, I can’t lose another one.” you said in a whisper but loud enough for Mark to hear.

“I’m not going anywhere Y/N, I promise you I’ll always be by your side.” he said while kissing the top of your head.

You tilted your head to look at him, he gave you a reassuring smile, both of you stayed in that same position for what seemed like hours but had only been a few seconds.

Mark licked his lips while looking down at yours, your mind went blank as soon as your heart started racing, filled with anticipation, the butterflies in your stomach made you want to kiss him then and there, and just as soon as you had the guts to, the door flung open, a very concerned looking crowd busted through.

“We heard crying is everything okay?” you knew who’s voice that was, it was Youngjae’s. His voice was laced with genuine worry and concern. “Yeah everything’s okay, she just got a little emotional that’s all.” They all sighed in relief, thinking something was wrong.

“It’s getting pretty late, we should all let Mark rest.” Lisa was right, he didn’t look too well he definitely needed some rest. Everyone agreed and said their goodbyes to Mark, “I’ll come see you in the morning okay? Please go to sleep and get some rest Markiepoo.”

“Markiepoo? I could get used to that but don’t tell any of the boys you called me that, I’d get teased for as long as I’ll live,” he let out a slight chuckle and flashed his beautiful smile, “Alright I won’t, goodnight.”

As you made your way towards the room you saw rest of the boys sitting on the couch, however they were whispering to one another, why were they whispering?

“She’s going to have to take his place for however long he’s going to be out. We need 7 because if there’s not 7 then there’s someone that’s not doing their job and if someone’s not doing their job then that can put our lives at risk.”

“Jinyoung our lives are already at risk considering we’re in a fucking mafia!”

“Oh fuck off Yugyeom you know what I meant asshole!”

“Both of you keep your damn voices down she could walk by any second.” you were tired of hearing them bicker like 10 year olds so you decided to make your presence known. You coughed, a little bit too loud, as you made your way towards the couch and squeezed yourself in between Youngjae and Yugyeom.

“So guys what’s up?” they all looked at each other, all of them mumbling trying to come up with an excuse. Knowing they weren’t going to say anything you let them know that you knew about their plan, “I heard you guys talking about me and how I have to take Mark’s place.” Jackson let out a groan, “ See I told both of your asses to keep it down why doesn’t anyone listen to me?” he while throwing his hands up, you started to giggle at this whole situation.

“She’s giggling why is she giggling why are you giggling?” BamBam said with a confused look on his face. “Because it’s cute how you all started to freak out because I heard, did you guys think I was going to get upset?” all of them nodded, “well I’m not, I mean I’m stuck here aren’t I? Might as well make the best of it.”

They all stared at you with a confused face, not knowing how to reply. “Do you know how to fight?” asked Jinyoung, the question took you back but then started thinking about it. You hummed to yourself, thinking of what to say.

“Well this one time in highschool I fought this one girl i’m not sure if that counts?”

“Shit are you serious? What happened?”

“It all happened because my bestfriend at the time was having a problem with a girl she absolutely hated, so she decided to fight her and as she was fighting her the other girls best friend tried to jump in, and I couldn’t allow them to double team so my ass jumped in.”

“What the fuck thats badass, did you win?”

“Lets just say blood was spilled but certainly not mine.”

All of the boys started yelling ‘ohhhh’ and ‘ohhh shitttt’ hyping you up, BamBam even dabbed which made you cringe but you loved it at the same time.

“But that was years ago, I don’t know if I still have it in me.”

It was true, you haven’t fought in a while and you certainly weren’t as strong as you used to be.

Year 2 Day 7: The year begins

So I finally moved in, it's all sorted. I had woke up a little early to get some stuff crammed into the car, it didn't take long to fill the car then it was off to the new place. It took shorter than expected, so I still had a few hours before work. I just hanged out with my dad a little which, considering he's quite far away now, was quite nice. Work was pretty average, only the one sale.

On the topic of work, it's been a little odd. I'd started to look for jobs and the day I looked at the house I had a job interview in the morning. I haven't heard anything about it so I'm assuming I didn't get the job but I'll see. Then Friday came around and I got an email from work saying that some people might have their shifts cut back or no shifts due to certain changes to the marketing campaign. So when I read that, I got worried about it all. Like I've just moved in to this new place and suddenly I might not be able to afford it because I won't have work (or enough work). So I've been a bit worried about that and I applied for a bunch of jobs. I'm yet to receive any response from them but that was a few days ago, so I might hear something. Next day, I go to work and with a worry that soon I won't have this job. So I chatted to one of the guys in small appliances and he said there might be some jobs coming up (I work for one company in the store of another company). So I spoke to the store manager and asked him if there were any positions coming (usually I wouldn't because of self doubt and stuff). He says there's a few positions going and he says that there's a group interview tomorrow and says he can fit me in. So yeah that was pretty damn good. Like it's not a job but it's an interview, it's a chance which is something. It may not be the interview that leads to a job but it shows that I'm actually getting job interviews, so I should be able to get a job before this one ends. Which is all quite promising, it feels as though this is going to work out fine, no matter what. Then to add more comfort yesterday I also received shifts for March and I'd got both a Saturday and Sunday at least for the first week. So that's something, it's very unusual how they release my shifts so I'm not sure if there's any after that but it means I've got work for the next fortnight at least. So that's a few weeks at least to get a new job and with unemployment low this is a time that it shouldn't be hard to get a job in.

Anyway back to moving in. Well, after work today I went to the new house and my parents had the last of the stuff to move in. So again it didn't take too long to move it into the room. The thing that did take long was putting everything away and in the places I wanted them all to be. I spent several hours unpacking, organising and reorganising. I was surprised how long it took, like I was hoping to have some dinner around 7pm but I didn't get pizza until 8:30. So yeah that's been my day, I'm now just bingeing the last few episodes of The Handmaid's Tale because I haven't got around to asking one of the other residents about the internet. I hope that I get that sorted tomorrow but I assume that I will (it sucks because one of the rules of staying at this place is no porn, so I'll have to figure out what to do about that, it might be good for me though anyway).

Oh and I'm really loving the TV adaptation of The Handmaid's Tale. Like it's one of the few adaptations that I've liked better than the original. Like I'm on-board with all of the changes so far. The pacing is much better as well because the book was quite slow in parts. Like I love what they did with Moira's storyline, I was hoping they would have changed it from the book but it was still just as saddening (although yeah they definitely added a bit on the end).

So that's about it. I feel like I wrote this one quite badly, I've felt unenthusiastic about it. I feel like it's easier to thoughtfully express negative ideas than it is positive ones but hopefully you enjoyed this is some way.

HEY! I haven’t been posting stuff for a while now, sorry bout that! =) I’ve been applying for a job for quite a while now so I haven’t been able to translate much these days... I went to interviews and stuff.... HOPEFULLY I hear from them soon so I can settle down on a schedule.... but for now, the release will be irregular... CHAPTER 6: THE CHARM OF AN ADULT IS RATHER TERRIFYING My heart froze when the chairman showed me an alluring smile. [I-I-I, I’m fine!! I’m sorry, I’m most definitely healthy! I was just skipping class a bit and made an excuse feeling unwell! I’m so sorry!] There’s no other choice but to do a jumping dogeza.1 Of course, I paid careful attention to not damage the out of print book. Actually, this chairman brought the heroine from the otome game’s world to the school infirmary and did thiiiss and thaaat. I may just be a mob character and don’t have to worry about it, still, I will never go to the infirmary with him!! I was waiting for any reaction when I did a dogeza but no words came out. Thi-this is bad. Did I overdo it….? I timidly raised my head towards the chairman who gave a blank look that didn’t suit his sarcasm a while ago. However, the next moment, he burst into laughing. [HAHAHAHAHA…….. A modern high school girl did….. a do-dogeza!.... jumping dogeza at that…. HAHAHAHAA] He, he seems to have accepted it. Both in a good and bad way…. I was wondering whether I should stand up or remain doing dogeza when the chairman pulled my arm upwards. [Do you like this book?] The chairman directed his inquiring gaze towards the out of print book in my hand. It might be because I was asked about my preferences that my tension rose dramatically. [Yes! No, wait, I haven’t read this book but I love the author! Anyways, the portrayal of humans is so ingenious that even just the scenes of their daily life pulls you in! Also, even if the tricks were simple, it still had some blind spots! This particular author’s book is quite difficult to obtain! Even so, I went around looking for it to somehow acquire a copy at secondhand bookstores, but no matter what, I couldn’t find it! I’m already so happy right now!!] The moment I finished saying it all out, I noticed the chairman staring dumbfounded. I returned a gasp in realization. Shit, I unconsciously got carried away giving a passionate speech about my love for books. I was so high-strung I could tell my face must look sloppy right now. This is so embarrassing! [S-Sorry, I got a little carried away.] I instinctively tried to deceive him with a smile but he ended up swallowing a small sigh. Hm? Did I say anything weird? [U-Ummmm…] He kept silent as he intently stared at me. I thought he was being suspicious so I called out to him but he made a surprised face. [Oh, sorry. I was kinda charmed by your smiling face……] I felt feverish somewhere when I heard his voice. Nope, that’s just my imagination, yup. Th-That must have been a hallucination, it’s scary so I’d like it if you’d please stop. [I thought you were docile but then you acted so differently and I was wrong, and then showed me a pure smile…. When I saw it, my heart stirred….. This is so embarrassing since I’m already advanced in terms of years.] He embarrassingly smiled as he said it. Acted differently?……. Wait, that doesn’t matter right now! In the mean time, please don’t hold any interests towards me! I’m only a mob character! SM2 play in the school infirmary, the hurdle is too high for me! [U-uh, I’m sorry. I’ve troubled you with a lot of things. We-well then, I’ll be heading back to my classroom.] For now, I need to get away quickly….. As expected, I won’t be able to borrow the book in this situation. I should just return after school. No, wait. I might meet the chairman again…. Uuuuuggghhh, that’s terrifying. [Can we chat a bit longer? I’ll explain it to your adviser later for you.] My body shuddered to his gentle voice. [It’s alright, today’s the first day! We can chat at another time when an opportunity comes, so, please excuse me.] I should restrain myself from coming here for a while. The matter of out of print book is regrettable though! Truly regrettable! However, if we keep having contact, it’ll be dangerous. 1 month should be enough. If it’s at least that much, he surely will forget about my existence. I hastily went towards the exit when I heard the chairman’s voice from my back. [Now that I think about it, you did say you were skipping your class.] I gulped and timidly turned back, his face revealing a smile. [Such a bad little girl…. It seems punishment is necessary.] TN: 1. Dogeza is similar to kowtowing to apologize and ask for forgiveness. It’s better to see a jumping dogeza 2. For those who don’t know, that’s sadistic/ masochistic play. D o we get some of that??? I also wonder LOL

Chapter 12

ARIELLE

Today is an off day for me due to it being a Friday. I don't have to go in and I have no class so I'm feeling good about not having any plans. Kamil has been out job hunting for the last couple of weeks, just about everyday. He hasn't spoken to me about about any of the jobs he's applied for leaving me to wonder if he’s had any luck with the hunt. I’m doing my part by leaving the subject alone so I don’t bring him any extra stress. I'll let Kamil come to me when he's ready, that’s the only way to play this out. He's out looking right now so I'm all alone at the apartment for the next few hours or so. With me not making plans to leave I'm treating myself to a TLC day. I'm talking shaving, deep conditioning my hair, re-polishing my nails and toes, etc. It's been some time since I've put forth the effort into really taking care of myself and today is the perfect opportunity.

Before I take an hour break I need to finish tackling my hair. Today I decided to give my hair a break from weaves, hair pieces and complicated styles. The entire month of December and January will be me giving my hair a much needed break. Just as I finished rinsing the conditioner from my hair there was a hard knock at the door. I wanted to yell and ask who was there but I can just hear Kam cursing me out now. I grabbed an old tshirt that once belonged to my dad and wrapped up my wet hair.

The knocks continued a couple more times until I made it over to the door and revealed myself. Standing in front of me was the UPS man who was leaning on a tall box against the door frame. By the way this man was knocking on the door I thought it would've been Khayman at least.

“Does a Kamil Faiz live here?” The man asked, glancing down at his hand-held computer and back up to me.

“He does but he's not here right now. Can I sign for him?” I offered, toying with the tshirt around my head.

The UPS guy looked at his watched and then out to his truck. Inside were a bunch of packages that looked like they needed to be delivered today. I sensed his hesitation on my offer but he gave in. I allowed him to move the box inside for me and off he went. Locking the door behind back I ripped the shirt from my head and threw it on the floor. I don't know what this is so I'll just move it over to the empty wall in the living room. I tried multiple different ways to get this big ass box from point A to B but nothing is working.

“Fuck this.” I huffed, going back to the bathroom to finish off my hair and hopefully take a nap.

Several attempts later to take a nap and I was back to messing with the delivery from earlier today. Kamil ordered this and his name is on it but I'm curious and very bored so I want to open it up. I got one side open and now I have three more to go. In the midst of me ripping this box apart my phone began ringing off the hook.

My mom’s special ringtone filled the air for a good minute and then it was quiet. Minutes went by and her ringtone rung throughout the room, driving me a little crazy. I'm iffy on whether I want to speak to my mom because of what happened weeks back. I just don't know if I want hear another go round of what Vera O’Brien feels and believes. She hurt me so badly in the simplest way. I still haven't forgiven her for any of the things she said to Kam and I.

With reluctance I went to unplug my phone from the charger to return my mom’s call. As a distraction from whatever she might say I went right back to getting Kamil’s delivery open.  

“Hello?”

“ Hi mom.”

There was an uncomfortable vibe that settled between us even through the phone. I heard her shuffling things around in the background, breathing funny Only three words total have been said and I already want to get off the phone.

“Are you going to say something?” I spoke up, removing more of the brown tape from the boxes wings.

“I am, I just wanted to see how you were doing. I haven't heard from you since that night.”

Rolling my eyes at the sadness in her voice I set the scissors down and pushed the box aside. The more my mom kept going in with how much she misses me and much she wants me to come back home is getting to me. I don't mean in the way to make me want to pack my things and leave Kam. I just mean she's not making the situation any better for herself.

I'm not going home any time soon. If Kam and I don't make it I should have quite enough saved up to get a place of my own like I've been wanting to.

“Mom..mom..please stop. You made yourself very clear that night on where you stand with the choices I've made. I'm content with every decision I've made up until this point. So never again will I put myself in an environment with anyone who won't respect my choices as an adult. I chose to give my relationship with Kamil another try for my sake. I chose to switch up my living situation for the sake of my new family. Well soon to come family but you know what I mean. Wther you like Kamil or not, that doesn’t have any effect on my feelings for him.” 

For some strange reason I felt the need to explain myself. Kam’s been preaching to me for so long that I need to use my mouth and speak my mind. Unfortunately it’s taken all this time for me to take his advice and apply to every situation. But with every chance I get, I do my best to speak up and defend myself.

“Arielle I realized I was a little harsh with my opinions rather than trying to hear you out. I promise you I wasn't trying to push you away. All I want is for you to be okay and safe at all times. I didn't want you to make the mistake of uprooting your whole life to live with some boy and get hurt later on like I was with your father. I was wrong and I'm sorry.”

My gut feeling had me wanting to shed some tears at how honest she seemed. She's my mom and I'll always love her. I know she has a good heart but she can also go about things the wrong way. For example, the way she took my news about the baby and Kam asking me to move in. That night was pure shit and she's the only one to blame for the outcome.

“I understand you want me to be safe, I understand you want the best for me, and I understand your concerns as my mother. I get all of that. But what I want you to understand is that I'm free to make my own choices mom. I'm in preparation to become someone else’s mother so I'm not taking orders from anyone except my doctor. This is a new journey that I've embarked on and I have a man to help me. If you're gonna be active in my pregnancy and my baby’s life, which I want you to be, then I really need for you to let me take charge. I'm not asking for the world ma. All I'm asking is that you stop belittling me and respect the moves that I make. I love you dearly but my family comes first now. This little unborn baby comes before everyone including myself. The remainder of the conversation went okay. We still had our disagreements on certain subject matters but we did alright with keeping it civil. The last thing I need is to be arguing with my mom and I won't be doing that anytime soon. My mom promised to work on her issues with Kamil and our arrangement. She didn't however completely change her mind on how she feels. But hey..if Vera O’Brien says she’ll try, then I'm down to see the proof.

“Hey..”

Turning around I saw Kam making his way through the door with bags of groceries in his hand.

I mouthed my hello back to him and refocused on what my mom was saying.

“Do you understand where I'm coming from as a woman? I'm not talking to you as your mom right now just woman to woman.”

“Yeah mom I do. But as my mom I need for you to let me live the way I feel is best and allow me to learn from my own mistakes! You can't shelter me forever and make all the hard decisions for me. This is what I meant before by if you can't respect me as an adult first and your child second, then we have nothing to talk about.”

This conversation is making my head hurt and I really just want to take a nap. Getting up off the floor I went into the kitchen to help Kamil with my mom still on the line.

“I got this. Finish talking to her.” Kam mumbled, taking the boxes of cereal out of my hands to put them away himself.

“Okay fine. I will try to work on giving you the space you want. Now I'm not saying I like you living with him but I'll trust your judgement. I just hope you know that you can come home anytime you want. I’ve gotta get back to the work so I'll talk to you later. I love you Arielle.” My mom said in a gentle and fearful tone.

“I love you too.” I yawned back. Hearing those three beeps I set my phone on the counter and opened the bag of Doritos he just bought.

“How was your day?” I want to find out how the search went but I knew what to say and what not to say.ow to take things slow and steady.

“Uh..it was cool, nothing special. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow. How was yours? Did you have to work today?” Kam asked tossing the plastic bags in the trash.

“I haven't been doing anything special either. Just my hair really and no, I’m off today. Look I've been quiet about the job subject but it's killing me not knowing anything. I haven't asked because I don't want to upset you but I'm curious and worried about you.” I used my softest voice possible hoping I can get through to him.

Kamil stopped putting the food up and stared off into space. He shifted slightly so he was looking out into the living room and somewhat looking at me. He wasn't saying anything which could mean a number of things. I only pray that I didn't ruin his day just by asking a question.

“The search is still a search. But I do have court in two weeks about the Tiffany thing. I don't want to go but I need my voice to heard. I'm not about to be played for a fucking fool by a bitch who can't keep her life together or her legs closed to one man.” Kam spewing out his feelings in relation to what’s going on in his life brings pain to my heart.

I don't want him nor I to have to put up with any bullshit. We have too much on our plates to be focused on anything outside of making our family work.

“Do you want me to go with you? I can switch days with some-”

“Don't do that. You should work as much as you can before you start showing too much and they put your ass on maternity leave. I'll go to court and get this all sorted out. And besides I don't want you there in case anything pops off. She don't need any ammunition to go running her mouth to people she got no business running her mouth too.” Kam rebutted, making me feel stupid for putting myself out there.

All I've ever really want is to show Kamil how much I support him and have his back. If he doesn't want me to go then I won't press the issue.

“Okay.” I shrugged.

Leaving the kitchen I kicked the box out of my way and headed to the back. Shutting the door behind me with a little force I went straight to bed to watch some tv. I’m not in the mood for entertainment but I need a serious distraction before I scream. A minute went by before I watched Kam walk into the room from the corner of my eye. I sensed that he now he has an attitude because of the way I left the kitchen.

“What you got an attitude for? Because I told you I don't want you in court when this shit gets put out in the open? I don't even know what the girl is going to say Arielle. She is capable of anything which is only part of why I don't want you there!” He shouted.

“I don't care! I don't care! Can't you see that I want to be there for you no matter what?! After all we've been through and you still don't see that I'm willing to stand behind you on ANYTHING! You still don't fucking get it Kamil! I'm tired of trying to prove that to you.” I argued with passion and rage.

“Stop yelling okay. You getting worked up isn't helping the situation, you or my baby I'm not trying to argue with you boo. I'm really not. I don't want that girl speaking to you sideways because if she were to, I would have some words for her. And then who knows what could happen. I'm trying to protect you in any way that I can. Everything I do from hear on out is for our family Arielle. I'm putting myself out there for any job hiring so I can start bringing some bread here to this house. I promised you I would take care of us and I mean that until I’m no longer breathing.”

Kam left the room and then the apartment without saying another word to me. I don't know if he's coming back or if he’ll be out for a while. Either way, I feel silly for not seeing his side of things because I was only thinking about my feelings.

Something in my gut is telling me we jumped into this too fast but I'm not giving up. I made the choice to stick by him and make this work so I'm gonna honor that commitment.

Hey folks! Holy shit, it has been a WHILE. Big updates from Me!

Life got massively hectic for me the night I last posted something of my own, which was about me having a breakdown about my hair. To all of you who commented, thank you and I love you all to death, I took the general advice and went to a good hair dresser who gave me some long layers and knocked a heap of the weight out. Next time I'll take some more off, but just this made such a huge change to me. Still haven't learnt how to style it or anything but I'm slowly trying to practise off videos. You guys rock! I'm so sorry I never replied to all of you, I was really overwhelmed with my general breakdowns at the time.

We got given notice by my landlord that night that our house was going up for sale, which sucked. The one month notice to move out also sucked ... but we took on another rental, this one condemned. The deal was we renovate it and we get 3 years rent free. If we have to leave early, say if I get a job elsewhere or Nick gets sick of his and wants out, we'll sublease it. After that time we want to move 3 hours south to a little regional coastal town, because I miss my ocean life so much it's like someone cut a limb off me. We got a loan, stuck our hands into our house deposit and we've nearly got the work finished enough that we can move in, so hopefully by the end of June/start of July I'll be into my new house! If I'm lucky it'll be sold to a very good friend of ours as a worthless part of a larger parcel soon, in which case we apparently shall be gifted said house for free. So cross your fingers for that one for us!

I've finally finished school, so you're looking at a fully qualified social worker 😊 I sadly can't find a job here that I'm physically able to do with my health issues, so I'm looking in other fields like transcribing/work from home jobs. I've also applied to be a Military Compensation Advocate, which I really, really, REALLY want, and the first 2 years are work from home/study from home, so it would suit me in this period before we hopefully move. I haven't heard back yet but my experience with Veterans Affairs tells me I might hear back sometime this decade. Maybe. If they put a rush on it 😊

I haven't wrote a damn thing, but I found all my old documents and I actually have some almost finished stuff in there in my old fandoms I'll be throwing out for you all soon, which might kick my arse into gear regarding all the new things I want to write! I've stumbled back into the Jackass and Dudesons fandoms, which, wow, that's nostalgic as fuck ... last time I was there was 2007ish? And the fic I can find now is AWFUL. So in this instance, write your own if you aren't happy!

So, to finish off, I'm here, I'm alive, I'm a little depressed and a lot anxious but I'm still kicking. There's some pictures of my new house attached, and I'll update with new pics before we move in.

I also wrote my car off a couple of months ago, which sucked major arse, but I was lucky to be insured for a decent enough amount that I was able to buy a new car. Yay! Or new to me, anyway, a low miles 2009 Holden Commodore V6 wagon. It is FANTASTIC. I love it. Cruise control, automatic transmission and lots of power. I am in constant danger of losing my licence in that thing, but God damn am I having FUN for the first time in a long time. I only miss my Land Rover when I remember I have no ground clearance or 4WD anymore. But the pay off is so very worthwhile and my husband is exceedingly smug about it.

Progressive auto insurance problem !?

I need an opinion on what should i do in this case. 3 weeks ago , as I was driving home , on the freeway , from the truck in front of me fell big peace of ice and hit my car from underneath. Less than 1 minute later i noticed blue smoke behind , luckily there was and exit with gas station right there. By the time i pulled up to the gas station car was barely moving. After staying parked for 20 min , it leaked oil and tranny fluid . I called towing , had them pick the car up , called progressive made the claim. All of that happened in WI near Milwaukee , before i used to leave in Chicago , so I never dealt with progressive from WI. After couple days adjuster came out and gave shop 1100$ to start the repairs , shop diagnosed everything and came to a conclusion that its the transmission leaking because of the damage inside. Adjuster was extremely slow to give shop any kind of approvals to do anything , So after 3 weeks they finally allowed them to take transmission apart , another adjuster came out took pictures , then shop owner want around , called me and said that he will call me next day. Next day shop owner calls me asking if I heard anything from progressive ? I call that guy back , but he went on vacation. Call my first adjuster , she says that the guy who went on vacation concluded that it wasn't related to impact , so they wont pay for anything and I owe 500 for taking down transmission. I called shop owner right away asking if its possible , not being related to impact , he says of course not , otherwise your car wouldn't break after impact. He also said some technical explanation what caused it to break , i just don't know what. he also said that no one ever called him and asked him what was the cause if that. I dealt with progressive in Chicago twice , when i lived there , and i had greatest experience ever , but it seems that in Milwaukee , they are playing games , making me pay , and not taking responsibilities. I figured somebody might know what should I do in this case , I just want them to do what they should do , especially when Im paying 200$ a month.""

Hi, I'm 17 in a week & will be starting my driving lessons. I have my theory booked for a few days after & aim to pass in around 6 weeks, depending on the waiting list for the test, having 3-4 lessons a week. Driving a car isn't a problem for me, have had plenty of practise on tracks in my dads weapon ;) & have for the last 8 weeks or so been going to an empty industrial estate one or twice a week, driving my mums cooper S or occasionally my uncles M3. Just need practice with the ways of public roads from my instructor.
