My 2 cents on the plot / thematic relevance of Ch 95
This is not about advancing Plot B or showing Anya's school life (which is still true but has been discussed), but rather the overall theme of education and war. There was an excellent post about how Eden is at the frontline of the cold war and it is subtly shown through the innocent lens of the first graders (I can't find it now, would link it if I could). And I think that perfectly applies to Ch 95.
Quick recap on some references about education/students/war throughout the series (that I remember at the moment):
Sylvia gravely condemning the Berlint University Student Terrorists during the Doggy Crisis arc (Ch 20) and saying "did you learn nothing about war at your university?"
Henderson talking about his experience as a history teacher (Ch 27.5, Short Mission 4) and quote: "Yes, well, I have always maintained that there is nothing to be learned from the memorization of time lines. From the grand efforts with which our forefathers crafted society to the foolish notions that sent them racing to war, to not study the human element at history's root is to not understand history at all"
Note that Damian's best subject has been established to be history, and his family (father) has been involved in war, at least Donovan was PM during most of the war (established by Melinda in Ch 91). Donovan is also a graduated Imperial Scholar (Ch 64).
The Red Circus group started out as a peaceful student demonstration "advocating for peace and quality" (Ch 72) and "speaking out to protect the weakest members of our society". And Billy Squire said, "We were a respectable movement that fought for our cause with respectable means. It was the state that turned violent against us. So I'm not taking criticism from a member of the establishment (referring to Henderson, an educator). I'm gonna see to it that they reap what they've sown." Billy's daughter Biddy was killed by the state at a protest.
Less of a point, but Becky is the daughter of the CEO of a major military manufacturer. Despite their very likely involvement in military conflicts because they sell arms, the Blackbell cohort has been depicted positively so far: Becky being a kind, wonderful friend to Anya, Becky's father doting on her, and Martha again being kind and dignified (and also being an ex-soldier and acquainted with Henderson).
Eden Academy is a major setting for SxF and the themes of politics, education, and war are embedded in it. The students involved in protests/groups are older (the university students, Billy's daughter), but the political implications remain even among the youngest of the studentsā€” the first graders.
Hence, Ch 95. When mere first graders are shown to fight to gain connections, which can be political as pointed out by Henderson: "In the world of politics, dances serve as major social events". But of course, they are kids, so they see it more playfully and innocently, especially Becky with her shipper lens on.
Of course, there is also the aspect of getting to know other people better out of interest (the boys asking Anya and Becky to dance because they were impressed after the bus hijacking). But as people have mentioned, nobody mentions this to Damian despite him being equally involved in saving the class (all three of them got a star). The girls aren't interested in Damian as a person, they're interested in him as an asset because of his family and their power.
And I can see the teachers trying to diffuse the tension and create camaraderie with their friendly competition. To me, this reads as the teachers fully realizing "the battlefield of political maneuvering", and they want to remind the kids to have fun, to show good sportsmanship, to unite the kids, to operate as a class and be friendly with one another, and overall make it more lighthearted. It's nice to see the classes work together and get excited / win as a unit, especially compared to the more "individual" bits of fighting for a dance partner later.
We get a bit of comparison between Bill and Damian, with Bill showing good sportsmanship while Damian scoffs at him. But Damian ends up becoming ultra competitive and telling his classmates to not screw it up.
Like the Dodgeball chapter, Damian is clumsily attempting to lead the class by doing good in his quiz, while getting stressed and yelling at his peers when they don't succeed like he did. So he's not really a good leader. Like how him being good at history does not necessarily mean he is good at being peaceful (Short Mission 4 ends with Henderson staring in exasperation at Damian + Anya bickering with each other). But obviously, he is merely a child, and he is naturally immature.
At first Loid is all for advancing Plan B and analysed Anya's suitors in a rational (reductionist?) way by ranking them in terms of gaining intelligence, but he remembers this is just a dance, Anya is a kid, and she should do whatever she wants. Loid (and the adults) are very aware of the political side of the gala, but ultimately they want the kids to have fun and not worry / worry less about politics.
Because they're kids! They'll grow up and learn more and be politically active later, but right now, they're just kids. Kids who don't know much about the world but are eager to make the world a better place.
In the end, we get a panel of Anya and Loid "teaming up" to win Damian's hand for Plan B / world peace. The Damian-Anya dynamic is cushioned with the silly crushy feelings, but underneath it, Operation Strix continues to be a core motivation.
I find it interesting that Endo chooses to focus on the first graders and their innocent view of the world / politics. It's embedded everywhere and especially in a prominent school like Eden, but the kids don't really realise it / realise the severity of it. Heirs and heiresses are educated at Eden and grow up to have incredible influence and the power to shape the world. Our protagonist's best friend comes from a family that manufactures arms. Henderson mentions the importance of learning history to avoid making the same mistakes (ie. war).
So Ch 95 is a cute prom chapter. But I think it also helps to show the themes underneath the fun, bubbly interactions.

Batfam brainrot said imagine a Hunger Games AU for them and I have little self control so now I'm thinking about it. Which is tricky. Because I'm not very familiar with the DC cast at large. Things I headcanon:
Tim is the tribute of interest. He's reaped despite his name only being entered once, and it's kind of a quiet political scandal, but no one really makes a fuss because his parents suck.
Bruce is Tim's mentor. Can't decide if he's from the Capital or not and serves as a mentor after volunteering to go to the districts or something something administrative bs maybe he actually is from the districts and is a victor
Dick is definitely a past victor in the same district---I'm thinking District 1 because aren't they supposed to be fancy and stuff? Fits with both the glamor of the circus for Dick and the wealth of people like Bruce and the Drakes (full disclosure my knowledge of the Panem verse is limited to stuff from fics and the movies and personal curiosity research) Dick is highly desired by Capital Folk for his physical beauty and alluring charm and yet very exclusive as far as prostitution goes because Dick resists tooth and nail as much as he dares behind the scenes. Also Bruce does everything in his power to help, which sadly isn't much since the system is rigged but it's better than the alternative
Don't let Dick's pretty face and sunshine smile fool you; he won his games through unconventional brutality. He's a lethal fighter and one kriff of a detective, while we're at it. Definitely a huge asset to the rebellion
Of course Tim knows that Dick Grayson and his famous father Bruce Wayne are part of some rebellion against the Capital. He's not snitching. He thinks it's cool. He asks to be part of it when he's reaped, and the predatory tension in Grayson's toothy grin would mean less beside Bruce's stormy scowl if the rebellion hadn't gotten Jason killed two years ago. Tim knows about that too. He knows it's a big deal, but he's probably going to die anyway so he might as well help out in the few weeks before then.
The Joker was gamemaker the year of Jason's death. Idk exactly why he ended up being a tribute because surely at that point Bruce has adopted him. Maybe he volunteers for a kid who's like twelve and has no one, and Jason figures he stands a solid chance because he's been training for years and also his family is the Waynes, but the Joker ends up killing him violently and horrifically and a lot of people grieve across the country. No one expected Jason to be killed. Die, maybe, but not be killed. The Joker's the only one who finds the whole thing entertaining. He disappears soon thereafter without a trace (Dick and Friends commit murder).
What no one knows, however, is that Talia saves Jason's body from the arena and resurrects it with the help of her father by the time Tim's game rolls around. Jason is broken and beaten and lost and confused and full of rage. His only comfort is knowing his family avenged his death. Under Talia's guidance, he continues training, though he must keep his identity secret from everyone, including his dad and brother. This version of Jason isn't as antagonistic as canon and actually works to help the rebellion as a secret agent/informant once his time with Talia is over. He's ruthless. Does lots of crimes. His combatant training, calloused mind, and the freak detective skills instilled by his father make for a deadly combination, and he begins to operate as an urban legend within the Capital, collecting every dirty secret every political corruption and the long list of quiet atrocities to use against those in charge later on, leaving a bloody trail of bodies in his wake. Talia couldn't be more proud. As part of the rebellion, Bruce is grateful for the intel this anonymous source provides, but a little unnerved by the methods everyone knows (but can't prove) he's using to get it.
The Al Ghul's and the League of Assasins can just be the government's enforcers. Talia specifically is in charge of training the tributes before the games, so it makes sense for her and Bruce to cross paths occassionally. They're tentative allies. She's not necessarily a rebel, but she is a little bit in the loop and is content to see where the chips fall either way. Damian is raised in semi-secret. Obviously no one knows he's the son of the reknowned Bruce Wayne, but he does publicly exist, if barely. Talia would have sent him to the career academy if she wanted her son anywhere near the games. She doesn't. She and her father can train him just as well without the dead end that path leads down. Besides, he's the child of her beloved as well, and she wants Bruce to know the kid past eighteen.
Steph might be one of the other tributes in the same game as Tim. They become fast friends and she almost instantly worms her way into the rebellion. It gives Bruce a bajillion gray hairs because now he only has two weeks to figure out how to get them both out alive and the star crossed lovers thing hasn't worked ever but faking someone's death is twice as complicated and he's pretty sure Tim could only sit still long enough if he passed out from caffeine overdose. Then Duke is there too with them big ole eyes and sometimes the lights glow brighter in the room when he walks in and Bruce is getting too old for this.
Cass is a mutt created by the Capital. She's originally used as a weapon to eliminate perceived enemies of the state, etc etc and honed into a living weapon. Somewhere along the way she finds Bruce when he's doing Spy Stuff or something and he survives her assassination attempt and decides yeah okay always down for another kid, disregarding the fact that she may or may not be human exactly and doesn't appear to have any experience actually being human. It's okay though. Dick's teaching her how to dance. She might not know what language is yet, but she's learning to dance and that might be better anyway.
Tim's game very nearly goes to kriff because Bruce almost can't fake everyone's death in time, and if he wasn't able to pull it off, he and Clark and Selina and Diana and a bunch of other people were fully prepared to storm the arena and shut it down themselves to save the kiddos. But it's okay they made it to the end. Tim enjoys being legally dead a lot more than might be healthy and everyone is grateful he's on their side. Who "wins" that year's game? Maybe Kon. Bart's fake death was really dramatic and Dick laughed the whole time he was watching. Duke is convinced the leaked radiation from his faked death gave him super powers. It's all Bruce can do to make him not test that theory in the most unhinged dangerous chaotic way possible.
It isn't until the quarter quell or whatever that the rebellion breaks containment. Previous victors are reaped so Dick is thrown back into the wringer despite public outrage hehe. Barbara can be there too. I'm thinking she's from district 3 because tek and she and Tim can be hacker buddies. She was paralyzed by her game. Maybe sprinkle in some Roy, possibly Titans and a token Slade for goofs and giggles. Naturally, half these people are part of the rebellion. The rest definitely know about it. There are riots. They blow up the arena. Whoopsies, started a war.
It isn't until the batfam relocates to district 13 that Jason is revealed to be alive. I'm imagining them narrowly escaping the chaos in the Capital, bruised and battered, bunkering down in this secret forgotton part of their country and then Jason's just sitting in the cafeteria sipping coffee reading Hamlet. He looks just as startled to see them there as they are to find him. His boots are muddy on the table. No one else in for military rations seems to pay that any mind. Tim's pulling out his mobile blood toxicity test kit to check for hallucinagens in their systems by the time Jason works up the brain function to sip his coffee again. "Sup Dad" He says casually, because he's a little piece of crap.
I think Bruce faints.
the funniest part is that Jason's been keeping tabs on his family ever since etering the field full time, so he knows them all very intimately but keeps forgetting he's never actually met some of his new siblings so sometimes they go really still staring at him like they're talking to a ghost and he gets snippy about it before he remembers. Damian's the only one who knew Jason was alive and doing his own rebel thing because Jason taught him how to read when he was still training with Talia but Damian never mentioned it because "no one ever asked" (read: he's also a little piece of crap)
not really sure who the president would be. Idk if there are any villains down to earth enough that could reasonably fit the bill but also be general enough to account for all the other heroes not included in the batfam ie the supers and wonders and lanterns martians and everyone in between. Anyway the point is that that loser (or maybe group of losers; i wouldn't be opposed to an oligarchy dictatorship) is going down by the power of family and friendship. The rebels win because they have more fun. Good for them we stan some quality shenanigans

MAG 117 Relisten
Activity on my first listen: Baking something with apples
An episode full of thoughts. That's gonna be a long one...
JON: "Daisyā€™s been pretty clear that she thinks the best chance of success would be for her to go in alone, and, honestly, I struggle to disagree. But Tim isnā€™t going to sit home and wait, and Elias seems pretty insistent I go along. Part of me thinks itā€™s just so he can see if whatever this ā€œpreparationā€ heā€™s been trying to do on me works." Aw man, sounds like he is really afraid of this. I mean, firstly, he'll be returning to the place where he was already hurt, when the Circus kidnapped him for their skin care before flaying seminar. In general the Stranger has done enough to scare him even before that, Not!Sasha, Nikola visiting him. And then of course, the operation itself is dangerous. Of course Elias is insistent for him to go along. But not for the reasons Jon thinks he is.
JON: "You know what? That same petty little part of me rather hopes it doesnā€™t. That all this time, all his cryptic nudges and ā€œlearn to fly by fallingā€ attitude, ends up being a complete waste of time. Just to show him." I wonder if this ended up to be a conflict in his coma. He knows, that Elias is planning something for him, he doesn't know what exactly that is, but that it's probably not good. (But probably also not the scale of this not good.) But at the other hand he wants to protect the others? Also, the instinct to survive is usually a pretty strong one.
JON: "I think Basira is the same. Sheā€™s coming along to back up Daisy, or so she says. I donā€™t quite get those two. I suppose what theyā€™ve done, seeing what theyā€™ve seenā€¦ itā€™s a hell of a bond. The sort of thing Iā€™ve mostly done alone." I wonder if seeing the dynamic those two have with each other got him to make the decision to trust the others and wanting to support them more. Shared trauma can forge these strong bonds. It's a survival mechanism. In the end, I think for Jon and Martin it was not just that though. I mean, surely it helped. But Jon made that character development a lot of the time alone. And through all his hardships, where the others abandoned him, even despised him, Martin always came back to him and stood with him. Even when Jon still "hated" Martin, he did care for him (see MAG 22, MAG 40) and already opened up to him (MAG 39). How could he not have seen this in Martin. Jon may not be the friendliest of persons, but he sure is a kind one.
JON: "If I am, uh, slipping then I need people I can trust. And Iā€¦ I donā€™t think that can happen naturally for me an-anymore" I can so relate to that...
JON: "If I am, uh, slipping then I need people I can trust. And Iā€¦ I donā€™t think that can happen naturally for me an-anymore. how much theyā€™veā€¦ suffered because of this place. Because of me. God. Poor Melanie. Andā€¦ aside from some, uh, uh, office gossip which I, Iā€™m not sure is necessary or, uh, conducive to a workplace thatā€¦ hey, it, it, itā€™s natural itā€™s, itā€™s normal. Thereā€™s, thereā€™s no thereā€™s no sinister hidden motives orā€¦ itā€™s fine. It, itā€™s fine." Oh he listened to that tape with the Jan Kilbride statement! Elias torturing Melanie happened on the same day and he addresses that. I'd just like to know, when this happened. Somewhere between Gertrude's storage unit and now. Also, he has now successfully internalized the guilt that is not his to bare.
JON: "I do worry about Martin and Melanie." Even though Jon and Melanie had plenty of arguments he does worry for her! That's what I meant earlier.
BASIRA: "But I think sometimes you feel like youā€™re adapting, but itā€™s just denial." Very well said. And then it's just a matter of stamina, how long you can keep up this denial before breaking, or actual change.
BASIRA: "But, sheā€™s solid. Sheā€™s aā€¦ a fixed point, and if sheā€™s there, I know exactly where I stand, exactly what Iā€™m doing, relative to her." This is important for their relationship post coffin. I've seen Blackbeard and Izzy's relationship (Our Flag Means Death) being compared to Daisy and Basira.
BASIRA: "The sort of bad you can only get through if you stay focused and keep a clear head. You choke down the fear ā€“ and not because itā€™s feeding some weird horrible god, like Jon thinks, but because thatā€™s how you keep going." Except for the choking down the fear I agree!
MELANIE: "They think theyā€™re giving me a chance to face my demons by helping to take down Elias. They donā€™t get that the only way to deal with something like him is to watch his eyes go dead with your hands around his throat. Iā€™ll play it their way, for now, but when it comes down to it, I want to see him dead. I, Iā€™m so angry just sometimes, when Jonā€™s going off on one about his latest insight, itā€™s all I can do not to punch him in the teeth." When I was first listening I absolutely did not understand where this lust for murder and violence was coming from. Especially not for Jon because she asked him for access to the library and he literally wasn't there when she took the job. Of course, it makes so much sense in S4!
The "arsehole" in the fan transcript is missing, keeping it pg? xD
MELANIE: "Said Iā€™d been mugged, although the scans couldnā€™t find anything in there." But of course they wouldnā€™t see the bullet... because of all the artifacts! (diagnostic imaging pun, *badum tss*)
MARTIN: "I, Iā€™m scared, I guess. ā€“ no, wait. No, no, I mean, aww, I donā€™t want that to be my last message, the thing that defines me. 'Martin Blackwood, he was always scared, then he died. The end.' I donā€™t want that." That hit me pretty hard, not gonna lie.
MARTIN: "I need them to be safe, I need him to be okay." One of the most famous Martin lines.
MARTIN: "This last couple of years, Iā€™ve always been running, always hiding, caught in someone elseā€™s trap, but, but now itā€™s my trap, and, well, I think itā€™ll work. I know, I know itā€™s not exactly intricate, but it felt good leaving my own little web. Oh, oh, Christ, I hope Jon doesnā€™t actually listen to these. 'Good lord, is Martin becoming some sort of spider person?' No, Jon, itā€™s an expression, chill out! Besides, spiders are fine. I mean, yes, people are scared of them, obviously, but actual spiders, they just want to help you out with flies." Web!Martin! Even if he denies it xD But also, actual spiders don't want to help you out with flies either. They just want prey to eat. And watching me sleep it seems! God that fucking spider sitting on my shoulder watching me sleep...
MARTIN: "Justā€¦ just donā€™t die, Jonā€¦ Or, or Tim, Basira, orā€¦ Daisy, I guess?" This is just fan service again here!
[SIGH, CLATTERING SOUNDS] DAISY: "Okay." Best! xD Seriously, this was really funny. Daisy just cocking her gun and being like "That's it. That's all I have to say".
TIM: "Just, if youā€™re there, I want you to know that I hate you. I hate you for, for witnessing whatā€™s happened to us." Right in the face of the audience!
TIM: "Talk to the wrong person, take the wrong train, open the wrong door, and thatā€™s it!" Oof, that door thing... But ultimately, it's the same in real life. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Awful things happen to good people. Awful things happen to bad people.
TIM: "And if he needs to pull the trigger, to use me to stop itā€¦ well, heā€™d better have the guts to do it." Very short-lived foreshadowing.
JON: "Gerry. I-I know thereā€™s more he could tell me ā€“ he he, wouldnā€™t of, of course, I, I know that but he, heā€¦ he would still be there, th-that, that knowledge, i-it would, it would still existā€¦" How very Beholding of him-
JON: "Come on. On tape, just, just, just do it! Do it!!" -but he's better than that.
Wonder, if it was meant to hurt anybody who tries to destroy a page of the Catalogue. Or if it's worse for Eye-aligned.

People downplaying Eggman's evil and seeing him only as silly and cute for his interest in theme parks, circuses, carnival, toy-like and colorful and fun aesthetics, etc while ignoring the evil that still very much exists within it are really overlooking all the ways that it ties in with and actually emphasizes his evil through it. I wish they wouldn't because it's something that's so great about his character and I don't think it's appreciated anywhere near enough for something that's so significant to his character and villainy.
I love it when he's like "look at my cool toys and fun playland!" and it's just so fucked up and deadly, whether it looks colorful and fun like Circus Park or the Interstellar Park, or dark and intimidating like Eggmanland for example. It's like he wants to make the world his plaything and the people his toys, the world shaped in his perfect image which is making all his wildest imaginative dreams come true and being he's the center of it all and recognized and hailed for his greatness. It's never been about or for anyone else genuinely.
As much as I obviously absolutely adore when he gets dark, serious, and threatening, I also love it when he treats it like a fun happy game too for how gloriously messed up it is that way. But people act like it's just some innocent cutesy thing for him when it's actually equally as fucked up. The point is that it's supposed to be deceiving when it seems fun and happy. He's not supposed to be creating something that genuinely brings happiness, safety, and innocent fun like Tinker or something. That's always apparent.
He's taking something that's supposed to be innocent, safe, and fun for everyone and turning it into something evil, dangerous, and fun only for himself and he knows it. It's evident in Eggmanland and the Interstellar Amusement Park. It's the most fucked up way to indulge in interests of his that aren't inherently evil and even considered childish by some and he makes it into a big deal that's so evil, deadly, and dangerous. And everyone will take it seriously when they see it for what it really is and learn his dark and malicious, deeply self absorbed intentions.
Eggmanland is of course a beautiful prime example because it's literally hell on earth and the difficulty and fucked up design exists for a reason more than just game design, it's in the story because this bastard intended for you to have a fucking terrible time and be plunged into serious danger, if that wasn't already extremely obvious. (That's why I love suffering while playing it so much, fuck yeah sadomasochism at Eggmanland šŸ˜ hfjsngmsngm) That's why he tells Sonic to come deliver any complaints to him in person, if he can. He knows how deadly it is, he loves it and is enjoying himself way too much with it, as Sonic said.
Tons of Eggman's lines in the Colors announcements also show this. He fully acknowledges all the dangers and horrific harm and even death the attractions and hazards of each planet can cause, even joyfully detailing it in some lines and having a morbid sense of humor about it. It's another blatant example of his sadism as he clearly finds enjoyment in the bad parts. While Tails is just talking about the food at the Bucket 'O' Sushi, there's truth to him saying that his cruelty has no bounds. He also calls his operations at Planet Wisp "evil" because he isn't oblivious, he knows all this is evil and fucked up and he's having a blast because this is exactly what he wanted.
One of my favorite parts of that flashback in the IDW Imposter Syndrome #4 flashback wasn't only how he said he wanted theme parks because he likes them. Though of course, I do love how he's proudly, unapologetically, and shamelessly into the things he enjoys and expresses them openly to the point that he'll make the whole world know. It's admirable and inspiring for that part, despite his evil. But I see people that only focus on that part and act like it means it's just a silly and innocent interest for him and that's it, which downplays his evil in it so I'm like wait, there's more to it than that and it makes it even better!
I love this part so much because it offers a subtle but wonderful look into that exact combination that I adore.
Tumblr media
Yes the petroleum-based cotton candy is funny but would make sense as the food at Eggmanland and the Interstellar Park is apparently awful to. I have no doubt that this is intentional in all instances, it's one of the less deadly ways he wants visitors to have a terrible time while he finds great amusement in it. It's one of the more lighter hearted silly ways he can have fun when people are having a bad time.
But my favorite part is how it can get darker than that, how he talks about wanting his enemies' darkest moments, their last moments, to be in this setting with these fun and amusing things. In a place with pretty bright colors, fun looking rides, carousel music playing, things that are supposed to be warm and welcoming, fun and safe. Just think of the humor and enjoyment he'd find in his enemies meeting their demise like this, watching with a big wild enthusiastic smile as he has his silly fun in such a messed up way.
It's thrilling fun with the things he loves involved for his entertainment before victory and a horrifying nightmare for them before their doom. He can make something that's supposed to be cute and fun so dark and disturbing and the end of people's lives and it's part of the fun and intention to him. It's beautifully twisted and so fucking cool that he can accomplish that through his awesome fun aesthetics and amazing imaginative designs. He's so unique and compelling of a villain with his interests and motives while still being so evil for that and I love it.
He does indeed have that childlike passion and excitement for this stuff, he genuinely loves the happy, colorful, and fun aesthetics, and I do find his confident and shameless interest and enthusiasm to be very cute and charming. The combination of this with how dark it can get is part of what makes it so great, how it can be both exciting and thrilling and eerie and chilling. So people are missing another big important part when they actually make it out to be an innocent thing for him and use it to downplay his evil because it actually emphasizes it when you look at it in this way and acknowledge both sides.
Also, you can't convince me that even young Ivo wasn't most interested in the idea of theme parks being dangerous and fucked up in a chaotically fun way. I love to think of him always sketching up designs for risky rides such as coasters that abruptly end and send people plummeting and all other kinds of crazy shit like that and thinking it was the coolest and funniest thing. And he still does now, evident by how that still happens with the rides that his middle aged self can actually create in real life now and finally make all his dreams come true! It's so cute but so fucked up fjdngndmsh šŸ’œ

Tumblr media
Yoongi had fucked up.
Heā€™d misread the massive manā€™s approach, tracking him in one direction when the guy was actually headed in another.Ā  Thatā€™s how the asshole managed to catch Yoongi off guard with one meaty fist to the face.Ā
It didnā€™t matter that it was hundreds of pounds of fat -- not muscle -- behind that punch.Ā  It was wielding more than enough momentum to blow up the side of Yoongiā€™s face like a bomb.Ā
Thatā€™s the night he landed in the ER at Songdo at nearly two in the morning, pressing gauze to his bleeding face.Ā Ā
Thatā€™s the night he found himself chuckling inside an empty exam room, reading triage paperwork that made him sound like some kind of war hero instead of just an idiot who got caught looking the wrong way.
Thatā€™s the night he met you.
ā€œRough evening, Mister Yun?ā€Ā
Yoongi had looked up from the floor just as youā€™d breezed into the room, tablet in hand.Ā  That moment marked the second time heā€™d been caught off guard that night.
ā€œThat looks like it hurts,ā€ youā€™d murmured sympathetically, eyes raking over the bloody mess on his face.Ā  Your gaze was clinical -- professional -- as you assessed his grossly swollen eye and the half dozen bleeding cuts that surrounded it.Ā Ā
But then youā€™d stopped looking at him -- and stepped back to really look at him.Ā Ā
Yoongi had taken one look at your enormous, dark eyes and your soft, sweet face and he was dumbstruck.Ā  Heā€™d blinked back at you with the only eye that could still move.Ā Ā
ā€œYouā€™re a doctor?ā€
ā€œNope,ā€ youā€™d replied casually, turning to reach for a pair of latex gloves. ā€œIā€™m a janitor. But Iā€™ve always wanted to give this medicine thing a try. You donā€™t mind, right?ā€Ā Ā
Your eyes had sparkled then, bright with humor -- and Yoongi couldnā€™t help but grin despite the pain pulsing from the left side of his face.
ā€œHereā€™s the deal, Mister Yun,ā€ youā€™d said, pulling on your gloves.Ā  ā€œIā€™m a resident.Ā  And Iā€™m more than qualified to handle the -- situation -- on your face, but if you feel more comfortable waiting for the attending, Iā€™m happy to step back.Ā  Good luck seeing him before sunrise, though.ā€
ā€œNah,ā€ Yoongi had chuckled.Ā  ā€œI think Iā€™ll take my chances with you.ā€
ā€œGood call.ā€
Youā€™d leaned in close after that, gloved fingers firm under his chin as you turned his face from side to side.Ā  Youā€™d smelled fucking amazing.Ā  The light, fresh scent that lingered on your skin sure as hell beat the disinfectant odor in this place.
ā€œWhat happened to you tonight, Mister Yun?ā€
ā€œItā€™s a funny story, actually.ā€
ā€œOh, great,ā€ youā€™d said dryly.Ā  ā€œā€˜Cause it turns out, I love funny stories.ā€
Yoongi had flinched when youā€™d peeled the gauze back, exposing the angry wounds to the air.Ā  But heā€™d forced himself to sit dutifully still as you got to work cleaning the caked blood off his face and eye.
ā€œThing is, I work for the circus,ā€ heā€™d started, hissing under his breath when you swiped across an open cut above his eye.Ā  ā€œOne of the elephants got rowdy while we were practicing a number tonight and just kicked me right in the face.ā€
Youā€™d stopped dabbing at his eye then, one brow raised and a cynical slant to your mouth.
Yoongi liked that you knew he was full of shit right away.Ā
He liked that youā€™d played along anyway.
ā€œGod, I hate when that happens,ā€ youā€™d said with feigned outrage, cutting your eyes at him as you dropped a piece of bloody gauze on the tray at his side.Ā Ā
ā€œI know, right?ā€
Thatā€™s when Yoongi had won a real smile from you, wide and genuine.Ā  That's when Yoongi made the mistake of looking at you for just a moment too long.Ā Ā
He knew it by the way your smile fell away as you cleared your throat and turned your focus back to his damaged face.
ā€œWell, I have good news for you Mister Yun,ā€ youā€™d said after a while, eyes scanning the freshly cleaned wounds.Ā  Youā€™d run your gloved fingers gently over one particularly deep slash over his eye and Yoongi felt a shudder run up his back.Ā  ā€œIā€™m pretty sure youā€™re going to live.ā€
ā€œWell, that is good news.ā€
There was that smile again.Ā Ā
It seemed like no time at all before you had him all patched up -- cuts sanitized and sealed with skin adhesive; swollen eye cleaned and medicated.Ā  Yoongi had felt a strange kind of disappointment as heā€™d watched you gather your supplies, pull your gloves off and drop them in the trash can near the door.
ā€œYouā€™re all set, Mister Yun,ā€ youā€™d murmured. ā€œWatch out for those elephants, okay? Iā€™d hate for them to ruin a perfectly nice face.ā€
Then you were gone.

Thing is -- Kim Namjoon is a rules guy.
It doesnā€™t matter that he runs a criminal organization -- or that the men in his employ are gangsters in custom ties and suits.Ā  He expects dirty work done clean because thatā€™s what sets the Gajog apart.
Rotate hospitals.Ā  Use fake names.Ā  Pay in cash.
All of those protocols are in place to keep any one of the Gajog from drawing unwanted attention.Ā  Truthfully, Namjoonā€™s operations usually run so neatly his men rarely have to seek treatment for anything beyond the occasional black eye or broken bone.Ā  Thatā€™s why heā€™d rather trust his men to legitimate doctors in legitimate hospitals than hand them over to some back-alley hack.
Thing is -- shit has gotten a lot more heated of late.Ā Ā
An audit of the Gajog books has turned up millions in missing won, stolen over time by street-level guys all over the city.Ā  Yoongi and Hoseok are the ones on the front lines, tasked with confronting those men -- getting them to pay and getting them back in line.
Sometimes they play ball.Ā  Sometimes they donā€™t.
Tonight is one of those nights.
Yoongi knew the moment they arrived at the crumbling warehouse in the Nowon district that shit was probably going to get messy.Ā  Their contact was fucked up -- sloppy drunk -- and belligerent from the jump.
After that, everything was a blur.
At some point during the scuffle, Yoongi heard his hand crunch under the heavy weight of the manā€™s steel-toed boot. The pain was still flaring hot from his knuckles when Hoseok finally took the guy down.Ā Ā
Right now Yoongi should be at Asan or Gachon or any of the other half-dozen hospitals in the city.Ā  He should have dragged his tired ass and bloody hand across town because those are the rules.
But instead -- for the second time in a month -- heā€™s sitting under the sickly fluorescent lights in an empty exam room at Songdo at nearly three in the morning.
Hoping to see you.Ā
*************************
Tumblr media
Yoongi is gingerly flexing his aching fingers when a light knock sounds at the door.
It was a long shot that youā€™d be here tonight -- and an even longer shot that youā€™d be the one treating him. But when the door to the exam room opens, itā€™s you on the other side.
Yoongiā€™s pulse picks up in response.
ā€œSorry to keep you waiting tonight Mister -- ā€Ā  you stop dead in your tracks, eyes wide on his before darting back down the tablet in your hand.Ā  You scan the screen slowly then look back up, gaze critical.
ā€œ -- Mister Woo.ā€
ā€œYeah, sure,ā€ Yoongi replies casually.Ā  ā€œItā€™s no problem.ā€
You approach him slowly then, disbelief etched into your delicate features and Yoongi takes in every detail.
Itā€™s like heā€™d forgotten how pretty you are since the last time he saw you.
Youā€™re nothing like the flashy women who like to hang around the usual Gajog haunts.Ā  Youā€™re the kind of pretty that doesnā€™t cost hundreds of thousands of won a month to maintain.Ā  The kind of pretty that doesnā€™t come off at the end of the night.Ā
Yoongi swallows thickly as you eye him, lips parted like youā€™re about to fire off a hundred different questions.Ā  But you donā€™t.Ā Ā
You play along.Ā Ā
Again.
ā€œRight.Ā  Letā€™s get to it then, Mister Woo,ā€ you say carefully, slipping on your gloves.Ā  ā€œWhat happened to your hand?ā€
ā€œWell, you see, Iā€™m a hot air balloon operator.ā€Ā Ā
His mouth quirks into a smile and your eyes flash in response.Ā Ā
ā€œWind was nuts today and the basket came down on my hand.Ā  I think I might have broken something.ā€
ā€œHmm,ā€ you murmur.Ā  ā€œHot air balloon operator, huh?ā€
Yoongi winces when you take his hand between your gloved ones, gently applying pressure to each knuckle.
ā€œYeah.ā€
ā€œThatā€™s an interesting way to make a living, Mister Woo.ā€
Yoongi chokes down a groan when you press against one particularly sore spot.Ā  You back off the pressure, turning to make a note on your chart.
ā€œWell, Iā€™m an interesting guy,ā€ he whispers.Ā Ā
You look up at him then, dark eyes focused and intense.Ā Ā
ā€œThat you are.ā€
Youā€™re looking at Yoongi like you can see inside him and the scrutiny makes him squirm.Ā  He lowers his eyes to the floor and keeps quiet while you clean his hand and apply ointment to his cuts.
ā€œMister Woo, it looks like most of these are surface abrasions, but the knuckles concern me.Ā  Iā€™m going to have to send you for an X-ray.ā€
ā€œYeah, okay.Ā  It hurts like hell.ā€
ā€œI bet it does,ā€ you say quietly, typing into your tablet.Ā  ā€œSomeone is going to come and take you back when theyā€™re ready.Ā  I have to go check on some other patients, but Iā€™ll be back when we have some images to go over.ā€
ā€œSure,ā€ Yoongi breathes.
You take another long look at him before standing to leave and Yoongi wonders for a moment if heā€™s made a mistake. Maybe heā€™s misread you like he misread that brawler who caught him with the nasty punch all those weeks ago.Ā Ā
You could be off to flag a security guard.Ā  Or leaving to call the police.
He really should have just followed protocol.
Yoongi sits in the quiet of that exam room waiting -- ready -- for trouble that never comes.Ā  Because when a knock finally sounds at the door, itā€™s not the Korean National Police.Ā Ā
Itā€™s the X-ray technician.
Maybe he didnā€™t misread you after all.
*********************
It takes hours for you to come back.
ā€œMixed news tonight, Mister Woo,ā€ you say upon your return.Ā  ā€œYou have hairline fractures in three of your knuckles, which explains the pain.Ā  Unfortunately, that means Iā€™m not going to be able to do much for you beyond wrapping your hand.ā€
Yoongi nods.Ā  ā€œGot it.ā€
ā€œAnd you should probably lay off the ballooning for a while,ā€ you say under your breath as you lay out your bandages.Ā  ā€œJust a suggestion.ā€
ā€œGood idea,ā€ Yoongi chuckles.Ā  ā€œSafety first.ā€
You fix him with another one of those long, indecipherable looks before getting to work on his hand.Ā  But you donā€™t say anything and the longer the silence stretches on, the antsier Yoongi feels.
ā€œSoā€¦ā€ he exhales, clearing his throat, ā€œ... you like milkshakes?ā€
ā€œEveryone likes milkshakes,ā€ you return evenly.Ā  You donā€™t take your eyes off his hand or the flexible material youā€™re carefully wrapping around his sore knuckles.Ā
ā€œLactose intolerant people donā€™t like milkshakes.ā€
ā€œLactose intolerant people like milkshakes as much as the rest of us,ā€ you argue.Ā  ā€œThey just canā€™t tolerate them.ā€
ā€œWhat are you, some kind of doctor?ā€
Your lips quirk with the threat of a laugh you manage to suppress but Yoongi catches the expression before it disappears.Ā  You seem to relax after that.Ā  He does, too.
ā€œDijeoteu has the best milkshakes in the city.Ā  Ever been there?ā€
ā€œCanā€™t say that I have,ā€ you admit, taping off a bandage.Ā Ā
ā€œItā€™s not far from here.Ā  Open twenty-four hours.Ā  I hang out there sometimes.ā€
ā€œSo youā€™re a milkshake-drinking hot-air balloon enthusiast,ā€ you murmur, inspecting your handiwork closely.Ā  ā€œAnything else I should know about you, Mister Woo?ā€™
Yoongi scratches the back of his neck with his free hand.
ā€œNot really.Ā  That about covers it.ā€
You hum thoughtfully under your breath as you finish wrapping the bruised knuckles.
ā€œAll done.Ā  How does it feel?ā€
ā€œBetter,ā€ Yoongi admits.Ā  ā€œThanks.ā€
You gaze at him then, thoughtful -- expression soft with something that looks almost like concern.Ā  Yoongi drops his gaze down to his bandaged hand.
This is the part where youā€™ve finished -- the part where you leave.Ā Ā
This is the part where he should say something to you but he has no idea what or how.
ā€œI would say come back soon, but this is a hospital and that seems wildly inappropriate,ā€ you announce, voice breaking clear through his stupor.
You turn back to him just as youā€™re walking towards the door, and for a moment Yoongi thinks youā€™re going to give in and ask him any one of the dozens of questions that must be swirling around your mind.
But you donā€™t.
ā€œTry to take care of that hand, Mister Woo.ā€
Yoongi nods.
ā€œThanks, Doc.ā€

YOU
Doctor Lee is on his Houdini shit tonight, apparently.
The ER is packed -- waiting room crowded with crabby patients -- and you are, once again, running yourself ragged to get to every last one.Ā  Lee is, once again, nowhere to be found.
ā€œPage him again,ā€ you call out as you pass the charge nurse outside an exam room.Ā Ā
A quick scan of your tablet confirms the toddler behind this magic door has been vomiting all night.Ā  You shut your eyes and wish a slow, violent death on your absent attending.Ā  Vomit is the single worst phenomenon in medicine.
ā€œIā€™ve paged him three times,ā€ Nurse Ko calls back.
ā€œPage him again,ā€ you repeat, forcing a smile and pushing into the room.
Thirty minutes and one change of scrubs later you are checking charts on the next patient in line.Ā  You pat the pocket of your new scrubs and realize youā€™ve left a half-eaten energy bar around here somewhere.Ā Ā
No chance youā€™ll get that back.
Lee picks this moment to reappear, back from doing God knows what.Ā  He strolls down the hallway like a man with nothing on his to-do list.
ā€œYou paged for me?ā€ he inquires casually.
ā€œA few times, actually,ā€ you mutter.Ā  ā€œIā€™m getting killed out here.ā€
ā€œRelax,ā€ Lee purrs, condescension dripping from his tone.Ā  ā€œWeā€™ll get it done.ā€
You bite the inside of your cheek to stop yourself from firing back the half-dozen nasty responses that spring to mind.Ā There is no we when it comes to Doctor Lee.Ā  Heā€™s always been flighty and inconsistent, but these days heā€™s practically a missing person.Ā  Youā€™re still not sure how hospital management hasnā€™t figured out that heā€™s making his resident run the overnight ER.
ā€œThereā€™s a guy down the hall who says he swallowed a magnet,ā€ you say, waving a hand in that direction.Ā  ā€œIf you can pick him up I can get to this head trauma.ā€
Lee sighs like itā€™s a major inconvenience that youā€™ve asked him to do his job.
ā€œYeah, Iā€™ll grab it.ā€
***********************
Itā€™s nearly four in the morning by the time you have a chance to catch your breath.
You walk out to scan the waiting area and to your relief, there are only a handful of patients yet to be seen.Ā  Then your eyes land on one young man -- slumped into a chair in an oversized coat, hat pulled low over his eyes.
You freeze.Ā Ā
The man in the chair must feel your stare from across the room because he straightens, giving you a better look at the face hidden under the brim of his hat.Ā  You let go of a breath you donā€™t realize youā€™ve been holding.
Itā€™s not him.Ā Ā
Itā€™s not the mysterious man with the fake names and the bogus stories and the insanely handsome face. You shake your head as you look back down at your tablet, silently chastising yourself for even entertaining the thought.Ā Ā
You shouldnā€™t still be thinking about this guy and you know it.
But itā€™s driving you nuts that you canā€™t figure him out.
Heā€™s never tried to play you for pills and that seems to be the only thing people lie about these days. But if his problem isnā€™t drugs itā€™s certainly something because no one lands in the hospital that many times, with that many phoney stories unless theyā€™re up to no good.
So you ignore the nonsensical disappointment you feel when the guy in that chair is not the guy.Ā
Because deep down you know heā€™s either in trouble -- or he is trouble.
***********************
Your pager goes off for a second time and you silence the alert, tossing it onto a nearby blanket.
Itā€™s not like youā€™re hiding out in here -- not really.Ā
Itā€™s just that youā€™ve already had one patient cough up blood on your sneakers and another swing at you when you refused to give him narcotics, so this night is off to a spectacularly bad start.
Besides, Doctor Lee could use a taste of his own medicine.Ā Ā
This week has been the worst, by far.Ā  Youā€™ve been seeing at least three patients to his every one and youā€™re exhausted.Ā  If thereā€™s any justice, heā€™s walking into the exam room where the infant with explosive diarrhea is waiting to be seen -- you check your watch -- right about now.
The door to the linen closet cracks open and you groan, hiding your face in your hands.
ā€œWhat, you thought I didnā€™t know about your little hiding place?ā€Ā  Nurse Ko asks with a grin.Ā  ā€œI find everyoneā€™s hiding place, eventually.ā€
ā€œHavenā€™t found Leeā€™s yet,ā€ you gripe.Ā
ā€œYeah, well heā€™s sneakier,ā€ she laughs.Ā  ā€œHere, I brought you something.ā€Ā Ā
She tosses a granola bar at you and it lands in your lap.Ā Ā
ā€œThanks,ā€ you sigh, ripping it open.Ā  You take a bite and Ko leans against the doorframe.
ā€œI donā€™t page you for my health, you know.ā€
ā€œI know,ā€ you whine around a mouthful of dried oats.Ā  ā€œI just needed five minutes.ā€
ā€œWell, Iā€™ve got a guy out here who says heā€™ll only see you.Ā  Doesnā€™t want Doctor Lee and says heā€™ll wait as long as it takes.ā€
A piece of the granola bar lodges in your throat and you cough around it, spluttering while Ko looks on, amused.Ā  She waits for you to collect yourself.
ā€œIs he -- ā€
ā€œ -- hot? Yes. Very,ā€ Ko smiles.Ā Ā
Your cheeks flame with embarrassment at both the observation and the fact that itā€™s coming from a woman in her sixties.
ā€œI was going to say young,ā€ you grumble, standing and dusting your hands off with a towel.
ā€œThat, too.Ā  Come to think of it, I know Iā€™ve seen him here before.Ā  You have some kind of admirer, jagiya?ā€
You flush.
**************************
Tumblr media
ā€œGood evening, Mister Kim.ā€
You hope the air of nonchalance you affect when you enter the exam room is enough to mask your jitters.Ā Ā
Your mystery patient looks back at you with those dark eyes and a half-smirk that makes your heart trip in your chest.Ā  You take a steadying breath as you look down at your tablet.
Get it together, girl.
ā€œWhat brings you in tonight?ā€ you inquire lightly.Ā  ā€œSword-swallowing accident?Ā  Lose a fist fight with a bear?ā€
Your mysterious patient chuckles under his breath.Ā Ā
ā€œWhere would you get a couple of outlandish ideas like that, Doc?ā€
You look up at him just as the teasing smirk on his face becomes a full smile and heat blooms in your chest and face.Ā  You force yourself to tear your gaze away.
ā€œI dislocated my shoulder.Ā  Did you know I work air traffic control at Incheon?ā€
You shake your head with amused weariness as you make notes on your tablet.
ā€œCrazy night.Ā  One of the planes nearly slid off the runway and I threw my shoulder out trying to get it back on track.ā€
ā€œDid you save it?ā€
ā€œSaved it and all 227 people on board.ā€
ā€œBravo, Mister Kim.ā€Ā
ā€œJust doing my job,ā€ he shrugs.Ā Ā
You set your tablet down on the exam table with a thump, eyeing him as you reach for a pair of gloves.
ā€œThe charge nurse says you asked for me.ā€
ā€œI did,ā€ he admits.Ā  ā€œYou never told me what your favorite kind of milkshake is.ā€
You cock your head to the side as you look at him.Ā Ā
ā€œI have no idea what youā€™re talking about, Mister Kim,ā€ you murmur, feigning ignorance. ā€œAccording to my records this is the first time Iā€™ve ever seen you.ā€
ā€œOh, yeah.Ā  Right,ā€ he chuckles.Ā Ā
ā€œYou need some help getting undressed?ā€
ā€œYeah,ā€ he admits, slipping one arm out of his leather jacket.Ā  You lean in to help him pull the other side off, compelling yourself to ignore the way he smells like soap and sweat and man when youā€™re this close.
ā€œItā€™s strawberry.ā€
You blurt the words out, anxious to give your brain a task that doesnā€™t involve analyzing this manā€™s smell.Ā  Something about the mischievous twist to his mouth tells you he knows youā€™re flustered by his nearness.Ā Ā
ā€œI would have guessed chocolate,ā€ he muses, reaching one hand down to grab the hem of his shirt. He drags it up his abdomen and you will your eyes to stay on his face -- refusing to give him any indication that you have more than a clinical interest in what lies underneath.
ā€œEveryone likes chocolate,ā€ you argue, taking over when he canā€™t get the shirt up any higher.Ā  You push it over his head and carefully work it off his shoulder.Ā  ā€œI donā€™t want to be like everyone else.ā€
ā€œMission accomplished, Doc.ā€
He gazes at you then -- chest bare and eyes sharp beneath those inky lashes --Ā  and you feel a bolt of awareness run the length of your spine. You pray the heat you suddenly feel all over your body is not manifesting in damning spots of color on your face.Ā Ā
You remind yourself to get back to work.Ā
He sucks a breath between his teeth when you press gently against the inflamed muscle and tissue.
ā€œMy shoulderā€™s been shit for years,ā€ he confesses.Ā  ā€œI screwed it up when I was a kid and it hasnā€™t been the same since.ā€
ā€œSo this happens to you from time to time?ā€
ā€œYeah.ā€
ā€œWell, then Iā€™m going to have to refer you for an MRI,ā€ you say, and he groans when you press into his shoulder again.Ā  ā€œThere could be a lot of scar tissue in here, but I wonā€™t be able to know whatā€™s going on until we get some clear scans.ā€
Your eyes flick back to his.Ā Ā
Every word thatā€™s ever come out of this manā€™s mouth is a lie -- but thereā€™s something that feels honest about the way heā€™s looking at you right now.Ā  Something that makes you feel seasick, unsteady.
ā€œTurn to the side for me,ā€ you say quietly, and the thin paper that lines the exam table rustles as he complies.Ā  The relief you feel when he pivots away from you with those eyes and that look is whole-bodied.Ā Ā
ā€œFor now, the best I can do is probably pop -- ā€œ
Your words trail off as your eyes lock on a wound that sits just a few inches from his spine, just above the line of his jeans.Ā  The edges are white and soft with age -- the area long-healed -- but the trauma is unmistakable.Ā Ā
Textbook.Ā Ā
The anger you feel as you stare at the wound doesnā€™t make any sense.Ā Ā
But you feel it anyway.
ā€œIs it still inside of you, or did they pull it out?ā€
ā€œWhat -- ā€
ā€œ-- The bullet Mister Kim,ā€ you interrupt sharply.Ā  ā€œIf itā€™s still in you, I promise it will come out the second they load you into an MRI machine.Ā  The hard way.ā€
The muscles of his back flex as he stiffens.Ā  Tension bleeds into the lines of his body and into his voice when he finally speaks.
ā€œItā€™s out.ā€
Neither of you says another word.
The room feels hollow now, painfully quiet without talk of elephants or hot air balloons or milkshakes.Ā  The two of you work together silently to crack his abused shoulder back into place.Ā  Somehow he manages to endure that pain without making a sound.
In the end, itā€™s you that has to speak first.
ā€œThat should hold you for now,ā€ you say tightly, standing to toss your gloves in the trash. Ā  You grab your tablet to make notes.
ā€œYou mad at me, Doc?ā€
ā€œDonā€™t be ridiculous,ā€ you mutter, fingers flying over your screen.Ā  ā€œI donā€™t even know you.ā€
ā€œThen why does it feel like youā€™re mad at me?ā€
You tear your eyes away from the screen to find his.Ā Ā
Thereā€™s no teasing or humor there anymore.Ā  He looks boyish and unsure like this, peering back at you with somber eyes from beneath long black bangs that have fallen into his face.
ā€œNo more stories, no more bullshit. Ā Tell me who you are.ā€
The words are out of your mouth before you can think better of them -- before you can consider how stupid it is to interrogate a complete stranger with a now confirmed history of violence.Ā  Before you can consider that you have no right to the anger that now streaks white-hot through your veins.
ā€œI canā€™t,ā€ he breathes quietly.Ā  ā€œIā€™m sorry.ā€
You shake your head in disgust.
ā€œAre you dangerous?ā€
Before he even speaks, you get your answer.Ā  You get it in the way color erupts across the bridge of his nose and cheeks.Ā  The way he looks away from you and down to his hands.
ā€œI guess that depends on who you ask,ā€ he whispers.
ā€œIā€™m asking you,ā€ you fire back.
He doesnā€™t answer.
You stand there for what feels like an eternity, waiting for him to say something in his defense. Waiting for him to pull another gag and tell just one more ridiculous story.Ā  But the seconds tick by and he says nothing.
ā€œA nurse is going to come by with a sling. Sheā€™ll help you get dressed, too,ā€ you say tightly, walking to the door.
You donā€™t know why your heart feels like it seizes in your chest when you turn to give him one more look.
ā€œTake care of yourself, Mister Kim,ā€ you say quietly.Ā  ā€œAnd donā€™t come back.ā€

The Irony of Adler and Bell
Call of Duty: Black Ops Analysis of Adlerā€™s Brainwashing
Itā€™s me again. And Iā€™m here with another analysis! This time based solely around Adler. Itā€™s always about Adler. But also Bell.
And this is about the brainwashing of not Bell, but Adler.
We have all had our theories since we first saw Adler getting tortured in the Cinematic Warzone Trailers, shown in Season 3 of COD:BOCW. Our suspicions growing when we see Sus Adlerā„¢ļø doing what he does best in Season 4 by stealing an important looking chip within the crashed satellite that was taken down. (Also, Hudson, what is wrong with you letting Adler be cleared for a mission when he was just rescued like two weeks ago?!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And although we did not see him in Season 5, we can all gather that anyone could be potentially brainwashed if you have a certain brand of earpiece. (Woods and Stryker appeared unaffected despite having their own earpieces). So the naive hope and calming words to others that Adler being different and strong is out the window. All it takes is hearing the numbers. What do the numbers mean, Mason?
Besides Bell wasnā€™t your average run of the mill agent either. An amazing decoder and created codes(I am with the theory that Bell did create the codes for Perseus that we have to decrypt in the game for Operation Chaos and Red Circus) with a brutal close combat skill as well as charming based on how one could talk to everyone and be a social butterfly. Also, able to handle and withstand torture after one hour of leaving Cuba despite previous injuries AND be able to go to Solovetsky/Duga and able to aim and shoot despite having a needle shoved in their eye a few hours earlier.
Bell had crazy skills. Just like Adler does. Bell was brainwashed. So is Adler.
Confirmed with this bundle that will be released. Thank you to @reclaimedbythesea who first found it and pointed it out.
We have the confirmationā€”the amazing, horrible, war criminal man we all love has become an agent of the man who he swore to chase down and capture/kill for longer than a decade. (Adler said thirteen years in COD:BOCW universe, so 1984 it would be sixteen years. Sheesh. Correct me if Iā€™m wrong. I may be mistaken.) Is it wrong I kinda find it funny? Especially since he did the same thing to Bellā€”believing it to be necessary. Just as Stitch Iā€™m sure finds it necessary.
Itā€™s just a big brainwash back and forth between these two countries, a race to see who has the most mindless agents on their side in the end. But weā€™re not focusing on that.
Weā€™re focusing on how Adlerā€™s karma finally caught up to him with all his war crimes. We can infer that he hasnā€™t just done a cruel action like that to Bell, but to others. ā€œWhatever it takes.ā€ Thatā€™s his motto. Heā€™s messed up otherā€™s livesā€”hundreds, maybe even thousands. The Vietnam War has a deep dirty history, such as the real operation of Fracture Jaw, Operation Ranch Hand with the use of Agent Orange, the Mai(My) Lai Massacre and who knows how many other operations that would/did affect civilians. Not that I would see Adler doing anything like the massacre, but you canā€™t expect me to not believe that he may have been involved with Agent Orange somewhat? And who knows what other operations and missions heā€™s done as a CIA agent after the war?
My point is, the man has been gathering karma for awhile. Not just with Bell(I am aware he had his orders in the war, Iā€™m just saying Iā€™m not sure if he feels much guilt about some said orders. Guilt I believe he may has, but Iā€™m not sure itā€™s a high degree.) Of course, Bell isnā€™t a saint either. They were willing to kill millions with Perseus after all. A wayyyy higher body count than Adler. And who knows what Bell did with Perseus even before the Greenlight plan? Didnā€™t seem to mind millions blinking in an eye, so must be pretty cold or delusional about the whole free world killing their country thing. Thank you @yunatheintrovert for this post pointing out and showing a hint of just how not good a person Bell was.
Iā€™m not going to say they deserved what happened to them due to Adler. I feel for Bell. I really do. Just like I canā€™t say if Adler deserves it for everythingā€”just canā€™t say that because Iā€™m not at liberty to judge otherā€™s actions and claim what is deserved and undeserved. Leave that to judges.
But now Iā€™m going to point out certain thingsā€”other things. Such as what I think to be Adlerā€™s ā€œnewā€ name. At least to those in the Perseus Collective/Stitch.
Tumblr media
Do I realize that ā€œCipherā€ may just be what this awesome skin is called? Yes. Will I rather ignore it and rant about the name for two ten minutes? Also yes.
On to the analysis!
ciĀ·pher/ĖˆsÄ«fər/: a secret or disguised way of writing; a code.
This first definition is what we can all gather of what the numbers representā€”the code and simultaneously the key of brainwashing others in earpieces with just a certain order of number together.
Stitch and co. used said numbers on Adler, so why not call him Cipher? The Code? Funny, cause he killed Bellā€”the Decoder. Maybe Bell wouldā€™ve helped him out if he didnā€™t kill them.
Another hammer to the irony of between these two.
But no. The name gets better. Second definition!
ciĀ·pher /ĖˆsÄ«fər/: a person or thing of no importance, especially a person who does the bidding of others and seems to have no will of their own.
PAHAHAHAHAHA! *clears throat* Now, this, this is what I think Stitch calls some true vengeance. Not only did he get to torture the man who did the same to him before, but made Adler a shadow of who he was before. A husk. Nothing really there. ā€œWhatever it takesā€ indeed but for the opposite side nowā€”a puppet with numbers for strings. Stitch did a good job in naming Cipherā€”I mean Adler. We donā€™t even know how far Adler shall go now, will the CIA have to kill him or will they be able to recondition him when/if they capture him? Will he even be the same? Nope.
Why do I find that definition funny? Well, I think Adler had a multitude of reasons for naming Bell, Bell. Just like Stitch did with Adler. And not just the obvious reasons of him ringing the bell at them to condition them as he was torturing/brainwashing them(we love Pavlov!). Letā€™s get the first definition out the way.
bell /bel/: a hollow object, typically made of metal and having the shape of a deep inverted cup widening at the lip, that sounds a clear musical note when struck, typically by means of a clapper inside.
I wonder if anyone knows where Iā€™m going with this or Iā€™m starting to seem like a madwoman.
Iā€™m going to ask you guys to focus on the word, ā€œhollowā€ for me. Hollow, as in not filled. Thereā€™s something in the bell alright, but it doesnā€™t do enough to fill out the hole does it? Like Cipher is now made a husk. Bell was made hollowā€”only a little bit filled with the little memory they got back before they were killed(maybe they werenā€™t, letā€™s just go with it for now). Or perhaps just a bit filled with false memories of Vietnam, of camaraderie. I doubt Stitch did anything like that.
Also, Bell is just an instrument for someone else to play. Play the right tune, and the Russian agent will do anything for you. Right, Adler?
Cipher is the puppet, just doing what heā€™s told when they give the orders. No will or thought. Just how Stitch likes it.
Iā€™m not done yet! Second definition!
bell /bel/: a. A stroke on a hollow metal instrument to mark the hour.
b. The time indicated by the striking of this instrument, divided into half hours.
Another play on words of Bell being struck(jabbed with needles) to do what needs to be done. But it also represents the limited time that Bell has. Bell needs to help to stop Perseus and quick, Adler will make them go faster if needed by putting the highest dosage as possible without killing them to accomplish it. Or maybe itā€™s also a representation that Bell does actually have limited time leftā€”Park did say MKā€”Ultra will be hard on the body physically and mentally. Perhaps MK-Ultra was slowly killing us and Adler just decided to give us a mercy kill while he was at it as he ā€œtied up our strings.ā€( @cryinginthebackseat does point this out in their Adler/Bell story, go check it out!)
Letā€™s focus on the instrument thing again though, but back to Cipher. The third definition!
ciĀ·pher /ĖˆsÄ«fər/ : a continuous sounding of an organ pipe, caused by a mechanical defect.
Oh man. Sounds like Adler is being played like an instrument too, continuously due to all the numbers and how the numbers can be everywhere if one is in the armed forces since they all use earpieces. Interesting shape too, a pipe. Long and thin and has two holes, a beginning and an end but which one is the top or the bottom? The beginning and the end? We donā€™t know how far Adler will go like thisā€”as Cipher. It will eventually come to a point, where something squeezes within the pipe and manages to get out. Maybe. Or maybe Adler is just forever defected, like the definition suggests.
Not quite Adler anymore and just Cipher.
Just like Bell will always just be Bell. The other self practically gone.
It seems these two will always somehow reflect and affect one another, whether one is dead or not.
I swear I love Adler, so donā€™t mind some of my dark humor about him and this situation heā€™s in. It is pretty funny. At least to me. Stitch is funny. And petty.
Hope you guys enjoyed!

The Great IKEA Game
Tumblr media
Chapter 1 - Meet the Players
Marinette originally came to the IKEA an hour outside of Gotham to buy twinkle lights for her new living room. She eventually extended her trip into obtaining new dishes since all she had right now was empty takeout containers she kept rewashing. She would have been very content getting what she needed and being on her way, (no, she wasn't lonely Plagg, she had two dozen mini-gods to keep her company, shut up) but halfway between the bedding and lights sections, Marinetteā€™s life changed forever.Ā
For the better, if she was being honest.Ā
She never would have realized it if she hadnā€™t ducked into a showroom to test out a couch. She settled against the fluffy folds, knowing it would be destroyed within minutes if she ever brought it home when she noticed him. A boy, no man, about her age, hiding behind a desk looking for all the world as if he were plotting world domination or someoneā€™s demise.Ā
They looked at each other in shock for a moment.Ā
ā€œAreā€¦ are you ok-ā€
ā€œShhh!ā€ his green eyes narrowed, and boy, Marinette had been on the receiving end of death glares before, but this one had to take the cake.Ā
ā€œSorry,ā€ she whispered.Ā
He rolled his eyes. ā€œDo you see a group of dark-haired obnoxious idiots out there?ā€ he asked.Ā
The request was an odd one, but Marinette rose from the couch and glanced around outside of the showroom. She didnā€™t see anyone fitting his description. She shook her head.Ā
He smirked. ā€œMy idiot older brothers dragged me along for a ā€œfamily bonding experienceā€." He made the little quotation marks, and Marinette never thought anyone could look cool doing that, but somehow this person nailed it. "Tt. Iā€™ve successfully avoided them for an hour. Didnā€™t know when the coast would be clear though.ā€ He rose gracefully from the ground, looking all the more like a prince, rather than a crazy person hiding from his family.Ā
It was absurd.Ā
Marinette found herself instantly amused.Ā
ā€œI have friends exactly like that, I totally get it,ā€ she said, thinking how Adrian would be beside himself when she told him the story later. The pang of loneliness that had been present since sheā€™d left her friends in Paris, for college in America re-emerged. She shook her head of the maudlin thoughts.Ā
The Kwamis would have had a field day with this idea too, thankfully she had left them in her severely under-furnished apartment for the day in order to avoid the squabbling that came with only taking a few of them out of the house.Ā Ā
Marinette looked back out at the hallway again, wondering if the man's brothers would soon appear, finding herself invested in what would happen. ā€œWhat are you going to do now?ā€Ā
ā€œWell, Drake has the keys, and those idiots will be at their shenanigans till the store closes, soā€¦ā€ he shrugged.Ā
ā€œAre they likeā€¦ furnishing a whole house?ā€ Marinette didnā€™t know how you could spend an entire day here. Sure, it was big, butā€¦Ā
ā€œNo. Weā€™re engaged in a no holds barred game of hide-and-seek.ā€ Marinetteā€™s mouth dropped open. ā€œIf one of them catches me I become the seeker.ā€Ā
ā€œWhy?ā€Ā
He smirked, ā€œBecause Iā€™ve held out the longest.ā€Ā
"No, I mean, why are you playing hide-and-seek?" It seemed an odd choice for a bunch of adults. Well, Marinette and her friends would do it. But they also willing became superheroes at the age of fourteen so their judgment was already in question.Ā  Ā
He shrugged. "My oldest brother thought it would be fun, and our father is... out of town at the moment," he said with a bit of hesitation.Ā
ā€œSo, youā€™re just going to hide in this showroom till the store closes?ā€Ā
A devious smile spread across the manā€™s handsome features. ā€œNo. I intend to troll them. If Grayson wants my participation, I'm going to make him regret it.ā€Ā
It was at that moment she crossed the point of no return, not that Marinette knew it yet.
Throwing away any idea of finishing her shopping today she returned his smirk. ā€œAny chance I could join you in your crusade?ā€Ā
The guy looked her over suspiciously. ā€œWhy should I allow a stranger to join me and potentially ruin my chances at victory?ā€Ā
Marinette thought for a moment. ā€œWell, your brothers know you well?ā€ He nodded. ā€œThen they likely know what youā€™ll do to avoid and troll them. You need a fresh perspective. Plus, I can operate out in the open, Iā€™m not officially a part of the game.ā€Ā
ā€œHmm...ā€ his face was impassive; Marinette couldnā€™t tell what he was thinking. ā€œYou make some good points, but Iā€™m not fully convinced.ā€Ā
Marinette huffed, ā€œI also grew up in Paris without being akumatized.ā€Ā
He looked at her oddly. ā€œWhat the hell does that mean?ā€
ā€œParis had a terrorist for five years that turned people into monsterized versions of themselves if they felt negative feelings. They were called Akuamas. Everyone in my class had it happen to them at least once. More for some particularly loose cannons.ā€Ā
The guy looked bewildered. ā€œWhy didnā€™t anyone hear about this?ā€Ā
Marinette shrugged, trying to play off her knowledge as what a normal civilian would know. ā€œCombination of corrupt politicians, social media blackouts, and magic. People died during these attacks, but everything was put to rights at the end of every fight due to the superheroes powers.ā€Ā
His mouth dropped, but he recovered quickly looking contemplative. ā€œI want to know more about this at a later time, but if what you say is true you can control yourself better than the average peon. But my brothers and I are a combination of street orphans, circus brats, gymnastics freaks, and geniuses - are you sure you can keep up?ā€Ā
Marinette nearly laughed at his description but managed to keep a straight face. ā€œPositive.ā€Ā
ā€œAlright, I'll do whatever it takes to win.ā€ He offered her his hand. ā€œIā€™m Damian.ā€Ā
She took it, feeling a slight shock as her fingers touched his. ā€œIā€™m Marinette, nice to meet you, Damian.ā€Ā
ā€œYou wonā€™t be saying that soon enough,ā€ he said with a slight smirk. He looked over her shoulder. ā€œShit.ā€ He dove beneath the desk heā€™d been hiding behind earlier. ā€œTall guy with the white streak in his hair.ā€ Marinette turned to look. ā€œDonā€™t make it too obvious,ā€ he hissed.Ā
Marinette grabbed her phone and leaned against the desk. With small side glances, she saw a man probably mid to late twenties with two-toned hair. He wore a leather jacket and seemed to be searching for something, or someone.Ā
ā€œWhoā€™s that?ā€ she asked quietly.Ā
ā€œSecond oldest brother, Jason Todd - arguably the most and least dangerous.ā€Ā
ā€œWhy both?ā€Ā
ā€œHe did not want to participate initially, so heā€™s reluctant, but at the same time, he hates losing.Ā  Heā€™ll hang on to the bitter end. More resourceful than the other two, and more violent, although less sophisticated.ā€Ā
Jason moved closer to their showroom.Ā
ā€œHush, heā€™s headed this way,ā€ she whispered. Damian remained quiet and Marinette tried to make herself look busy.Ā
ā€œQuick question miss?ā€ Marinette glanced up from her phone. Jason stood at the entrance to the showroom.Ā
ā€œOh, uh, oui? Non, non, I mean yes?ā€ Marinette said in an exaggerated accent, playing into theĀ oblivious tourist stereotype always came in handy.Ā
ā€œOh French, shit, havenā€™t spoken that in a while,ā€ he muttered. ā€œUm...ā€Ā
ā€œNon, it iz okay, I speak English well. Can I help you?ā€ She batted her eyes just a bit. Marinette had long since grown from the days of not using all her advantages - courtesy of forced confidence from Chole. A friendship no one had seen coming but had grown quick and strong once they reached an understanding.Ā
ā€œOh, Iā€™m looking for my little brother, about yay high, black hair, green eyes, permanent scowl. Have you seen him?ā€Ā
Marinette pretended to think for a second. ā€œNon... I do not theenk so, perhaps help desk at zee front?ā€
ā€œYeah, maybe,ā€ Jason said, Marinette could see he had already written her off as useless. ā€œThanks, anyway.ā€ He walked away quickly.Ā
There was a minute of silence. ā€œCoast is clear,ā€ said Marinette once Jason was out of sight.Ā
Damian popped up, a gleam in his eyes. ā€œYour lying skills are adequate; we may just win this yet.ā€Ā
ā€œIā€™m glad to meet such high approval, monsieur. Letā€™s get going.ā€Ā

My two cents on the devolution of fandom spaces...
As a former mod of a fandom space and a woman of colour, I do not feel safe.
Seeing what has been done to so many in this fandom, by a particular group of white American women, in the name of moral policing is both abhorrent and demoralising. As it also is to repeatedly see the same narrative being shoved at everyone as the gospel truth.
A narrative that very conveniently either becomes about fic or has nothing to do with fic, depending on how people want to swing things. A narrative that will accuse a person of Jewish heritage of anti-Semitism, a person of colour of racism, a practising Muslim of being an Islamaphobe. A narrative that will define for you and me and all of us comprising this myriad of multitudes in the world what generational or personal trauma includes and what induces the same.
Those of you who know me, know what Iā€™ve been dealing with the past few days & why I havenā€™t spoken up before now. Before I logged out a couple days ago, I saw what looked like more of the usual nonsense by the same group of people Iā€™ve kept my distance from once their true colours were revealed. What I didnā€™t expect is that they would think themselves so above the norms of human decency and accountability that they would go after not one but two women of colour this time around in their rabidity. And many others who spoke up, as it turns out.
It hurts to see what these women, that I know of, have had to endure and to see the passivity of the community, save for a few voices, in sitting back and letting the circus rampage through town. It hurt when I was at the receiving end of it and it hurts now.
Why? Because it shows me a microcosm of the world that I donā€™t really relate to, that makes no sense to me with the values I was brought up with, and which reduces basic human decency to a commodity to be trampled upon and for you to be seen as weak for having. Because people who willingly laud you for your art / writing / wit, meet you with effusive claims of love and affection and friendship, who have no qualms in taking your help when it suits them, will throw you under the bus and let the wolves ravage you when it doesn't.
Before I get into that, let me talk a little bit about what has transpired over the past few days to a week, and what has been systemically taking place over perhaps the past year in this fandom.
One thing is that everyone who makes a statement about anything suddenly has people in their mentions demanding they show what gives them the right to hold that particular opinion. A critical thing people forget about fandom is that it is a place where people hide their identity for a variety of reasons, all valid, and this approach to fiction and conversations where everyone has to reveal every part of their past and identity as a means of establishing their "credentials" in order to present their views comes in direct contradiction with how fandoms operate. It violates people's rights to privacy.
The other is that there has been an increase in the voices that purportedly stand up to ā€œspeak forā€ the marginalised, the abused, those discriminated against and those who belong to minorities who ā€œneed to be protected / kept safeā€. An admirable sentiment, to be sure. If it werenā€™t for the fact that none of these groups of people needed saving, speaking for or the protection of this particular group of voices.
Voices who only want to define and use these people as "model victims" to hurt other white women and establish their supremacy over both them and other POC. Voices that will present their "truth" as they see fit and sans context or present you with screenshots of snippets of conversations held in supposedly secure spaces that they have no qualms in violating in the interest of the "greater good" and claim offense / silencing if the misdemeanour is pointed out or action is taken against them, Voices that will conveniently categorize you as a "token POC" or "white adjacent" when you do not support or align with their narrative. Voices that belong to a predominantly white American group of women, whose real agenda, as is evidenced by their modus operandi, has nothing to do with real altruism or a drive for justice or indeed to right wrongs.
No, their agenda is purely power.
To hold sway over groups of followers, to shepherd them as though they are sheep who cannot think for themselves, and to set themselves up as white saviours who call out those who step out of line, or are deemed to be problematic and toxic and unsafe. To be the owners of the only "safe spaces" in fandom and to drive other groups and spaces to be boycotted or worse.
Now, I've long wondered, who indeed are these women to decide that for anyone? In a world comprising multiple cultures, religions, groups, subgroups, genders and which contains multitudes, who are these women and what gives them the right to foist their puritanical standards on everyone, very conveniently disguised as concern for the moral well being of everyone and the consumption, of all things, of fiction?
Certainly, there are many things in this world that people regard with justifiably equal dislike / horror / sadness. At the same time, there is much that is not shared, that is particular to a culture and to a personā€™s background. There is a multitude of perspectives that make the whole. And the white women of the United States of America have not cornered the market on what those are, or indeed even own any curatorship or censorship of the same. They cannot, because each personā€™s culture and background and joy and trauma is their own, as are their ways of dealing with it all.
That being said, letā€™s talk about their pack behaviour and the devolution Iā€™ve witnessed on social media as basic human decency is bartered for clout.
Iā€™m all for standing up for someone who doesnā€™t have a voice or a platform, or maybe afraid of repercussions to voice dissent. Iā€™m all for being there for our fellow human beings as they face struggles of often unconscionable and unfathomable proportions. Iā€™m all for holding people accountable for their negative behaviours as they impact the larger community.
What I am unequivocally NOT for is treating such situations as an opportunity to preach, to virtue-signal, to shame and to put on blast the alleged wrong-doers. I say alleged because thatā€™s what most accusations are on these platformsā€”allegations to do with things that disturb our sense of balance or make us wrinkle our noses or that we deem bad, and therefore make the accused deserving of the full force of the communityā€™s misbehaviour and censure.
I ask you if you were found guilty of a crime in real lifeā€”you know, the one away from your phones and keyboardsā€”would you not have an opportunity to retain a lawyer, to plead your case in a court of law, to acquit yourself? Or, if found guilty, would you not have the opportunity for correction and rehabilitation? Yes, you say? (If you say no, then that explains the spate of state-perpetuated injustices across the USA, but that is a different matter).
Why then are people treated so abhorrently in this court of public opinion? What gives you, me, any one of us the right to judge people so vilely and with a metaphorical gun to their heads? What gives anyone the right to say you better agree with everything I say, retract everything you said and grovel for it or we will eviscerate you in public, shame you, force you to change or delete the content that offends us and still ostracise you and in some cases even threaten you with bodily harm or death, or doxx you?
Why is there no grace in how people are approached or dealt with? Whatever happened to allowing people to learn from their mistakes, where applicable, or hearing them out and giving them a chance to explain their side of something we may not fully understand?
Why is there no accountability for such behaviour on the part of the accusers?
What makes the rest of you sit back and allow this to happen? What makes you think this is in any shape or form okay to watch? Today, it is a virtual stranger at the receiving end, one you can distance yourself from quite conveniently saying Oh, she just mods a group I am in, or I only read their fics a couple times or I only followed them for their art or jokes or whatever flavour of excuse you choose. Tomorrow, it will be one of your own - or it may very well be you. And you'd better hope there's someone left to speak up for you.
The irony is you will have allowed it to happen by letting the wolf in the fold. By letting these white women manipulate you, and the community you claim to be a part of, so unapologetically, so maliciously and so unashamedly that before you can do anything about it the cancer has taken hold.
If this was happening in the world outside of social media, they would have to follow due process, to present real evidence based on facts (not based on emotions, rumours or perceptions) and would have to allow the person they are accusing to present a counter-argument, to defend themselves or be defended. Failure to do so is a miscarriage of justice and, depending on whether this is a professional or legal proceeding, they would either seriously risk their jobs or have the case thrown out of court. If not face action themselves for attempting to derail the process of justice.
Why then are they permitted to range so freely through the landscape of fandom, snarling and biting at who they please, or who displeases them?
I have no shame in saying I was at the receiving end of their behaviour for defending a friend they put on blast and I will tell you right here and now, I am a woman of colour who feels unsafe and attacked by these so-called self-appointed white saviours of your social media experience, these so-called upholders of the common moralityā€”whatever that meansā€”who will fight for you the evils of problematic and toxic writers who dare to have an opinion not aligned with theirs and who do not bow to their clout. Not that they care, so long as they can ignore this fact since it doesnā€™t fit their narrative. So long as they can ignore what has just been done to so many people in the name of cleansing the fandom.
If any one of these women were truly interested in alleviating the troubles and pains of the discriminated, the marginalized, the trauma-affected, I invite them to please come roll their sleeves up and help in the multitudes of troubles that wrack this world, not just in the backyards of their minds. My country is amidst a struggle for the basics of human life in this horrific pandemic and, prior to that, for basic constitutional rights for religious minorities. Do not patronize me and lecture me on trauma and racism and discrimination. Do not marginalise me in your attempt to pontificate and set your pearl-clutching puritanical selves above the rest, or assuage your white guilt.
A largely American audience or fanbase in this fandom is purely a function of access and interestā€”other cultures have vast followings for things you couldn't begin to fathomā€”and it doesn't mean you are entitled in any shape or form to be spokespeople for the rest of the world. We have no interest in being colonized again by white oppressors.
If you disagree with what I have said, I congratulate you on being a part of their coterie and wish you much joy in being the sheep in their fold. Kindly unfollow or block me on the way off of this post.

we are our family, even if we donā€™t want to be.
Titans 3.07
a bit over halfway through the season, and we still donā€™t have all of our main characters on the board! i love this show.
as always, typing this up as i watch. live reaction, baby! *shadowboxes*
SPOILERS AHEAD
1. i donā€™t think iā€™ve mentioned this before, but i kinda miss the oldĀ ā€˜dc universeā€™ intro. it was cool! the whole idea of it was wild and waaaaay over-ambitious, but also very very on-brand because of it.
2. this is... the third time weā€™ve seen dick sleeping this season? thatā€™s a record! checking another thing off my s3 wishlist...
2.5. i guess i rag on titansĀ all the time for its wafer-thin plotting and bad pacing, but i have to admit that this season has been a step-up from the last one in this regard. titans has very reactive rather than proactive protagonists, and a lot of the last season seemed to be: x happened, the team reacted badly, then y happened, they reacted badly, etc. this time around, itā€™s not a hugeĀ leap up by any means, but at least theyā€™re doingĀ something about it.Ā
i do appreciate the focus on character arcs over everything else. and when i say everything else, i mean it: arcs that started two seasons ago with no big cathartic moments, intermittent payoff and multiple relapses. big bads have ranged from interdimensional demons to superpowered assassins to whatever in the world scarecrow is, but trigonā€™s big weapon against the titans was to... use their worst fears against them. sladeā€™s was to... use their fears to break them up. craneā€™s is to... use red hood to use their fears to break them up. even the threat of gothamā€™s citizens being in danger doesnā€™t feel real: gotham is mythologised into an entity of its own, infecting our heroes like a parasite. like. this is not to say that most other superhero media arenā€™t big character arcs intertwined with the main plot, but titansĀ doesnā€™t even make pretend that itā€™s anything but.
anyway. thatā€™s my entry #2345 toĀ ā€˜give a grand unifying theory for titansā€™. thanks. iā€™ll be back with more.
3.Ā ā€œanger is just fear in a little black dress.ā€ god I HATE HIM
(whatā€™s he doing with barbaraā€™s likeness? oh... oh god. a terrible thought just occurred to me. what if they introduce hushĀ at the very last minute for plastic surgery shenanigans? would you put it past this show?)
3.5. jason, nooooooooo
3.75. i mean, theyā€™re making it veryĀ clear here that scarecrow is the one in control--the one whoā€™s always been in control--and is manipulating jason and literally poisoning him, but i hope it doesnā€™t end up erasing nuance or jasonā€™s autonomy. if jasonā€™s to reckon with the issues that brought him here, then the lines of responsibility will need to be set somewhere.Ā
(this applies to dick as well but more on that later, i guess.)
4. just--the phraseĀ ā€œ40% loss of incomeā€ is so funny to me. like, gotham is full of these larger-than-life characters who are idiosyncratic beyond belief, colourful and dramatic and creating chaos just for the sake of chaos, and then thereā€™s the regular criminals and their henchmen who just want to make a quick buck sitting down with pie charts and graphs, griping about the joker reducing their returns or debating high risk investments in, i donā€™t know, two-faceā€™s next scheme.
Tumblr media
ā€œyyyyeeeeeaaah, my financial advisor is telling me that going all-in with a guy who literally makes decisions on the flip of a coin is probably not the greatest idea.ā€
4.5. god i hate smug!smarmy!scarecrow so much
4.85. as big plans toĀ ā€œcontrolā€ gotham go, itā€™s pretty bog-standard. clearly scarecrow has some bigger plan in mind but it really feels like weā€™ve got no clear insight into him and heā€™s this generic creepy mystery-man who knows more than he lets on and springs a twist/cliffhanger every now and then. i liked the scenes with him and dick in 3.04 where it seemed like he was genuinely on the backfoot and things werenā€™t going as he predicted. for all of his faults, dick is at least familiar with scarecrowā€™s bullshit and knows not to give what he wants.
5. i mean... i see where dick is coming from with theĀ ā€œheā€™s not jason anymore; heā€™s red hoodā€ because his immediate glaring concern is scarecrowā€™s drug and the damage it could potentially cause gotham? i do not doubt that itā€™s something batman drilled into him, too, but when youā€™re expected to take point on a situation where the lives of an entire city weigh down on your shoulders, itā€™s better to simplify things and prioritise. iā€™m not saying itā€™s great or healthy! gar is absolutely right to consider this facet of the situation. itā€™s just dick canā€™t.
6. hmmmmmmm. HMMMMMMMMMMM.Ā
i donā€™t know that iā€™m super fond of this iteration of oracle???? it looks like a cross between cerebro from x-men and jarvis from iron man. itā€™s giving me second-hand embarrassment. somebody help me.
(at least they remembered dickā€™s middle name is actuallyĀ ā€œjohnā€. i like to think bruce printed D in that contract because for a while he genuinely thought richardĀ ā€œdickā€ grayson was his full name. duck duck goose, dick dick grayson, i donā€™t know alfred, the kid was in a circus, maybe they thought it was funny. or maybe it was a test in anger control, who knows.)
6.5Ā ā€œmaybe you two would like some time alone?ā€ even AI canā€™t help hitting on dick grayson in this universe.

ā€œoh mr grayson, if i only had another eye to see you better...ā€
6.8. on one hand, itā€™s a bit disconcerting that the title ofĀ ā€˜oracleā€™ has gone from barbara herself to this gigantic machine; from my impression of the comics-verse, barbara had an extensive computing and surveillance system, true, but she was very clearly the brains behind the operation. on the otherĀ hand, iā€™m kind of glad that the ethical boundaries that this kind of surveillance violates is a sticking point for barbara. (tho letā€™s be real, the nsa would kill to have this in their arsenal).
6.9. also itā€™s now obvious that scarecrowā€™s big plan is to take control of oracle itself. itā€™s why he had lady vic take that picture of her eyes, or why heā€™s meddling around with it on his computer.
6.95. if only i couldĀ ā€˜command sleepā€™ anybody overstepping their boundaries re: personal information...
7.Ā ā€œyou can just sit back and watch as the titans destroy themselves.ā€ i mean... heā€™s not wrong
8.Ā ā€œdickā€™s parents were killed by a criminal mob; he wonā€™t work with them.ā€ itā€™s wonderful that you have this insight into dick, kory, i just wish we couldā€™ve watched some of these conversations actually happen on-screen.
8.5. iā€™m glad that komā€™s being treated with such nuance and understanding, though itā€™s obvious that she definitely has a Plan of her own. (and did i entirely imagine her ability to mimic other people flawlessly at the end of s2? or is that going to come into play at some point?) i think her story has the potential to be genuinely poignant, and in a universe where being Different, either because of mental health or physical differences or whatever else, leads a straight line to Evil, itā€™s important to acknowledge and then emphasise that the mere fact of your existence as a Different Person doesnā€™t predispose you to evil. maybe your act of destroying a system that has destroyed you and not scrambling toĀ ā€œfit inā€ is only evil as defined by that system.Ā
8.8.Ā ā€œyouā€™re trespassing, i should call the authorities, i feel unsafe.ā€ now this is a villain lady whoā€™s definitely aware of her privilege.
8.85. kom smirking knowingly at her sister is everything.
Tumblr media
ā€œoooh thatā€™s the kory i rememberā€
9. conner and dick working together woo!
9.25. god i hate a villain whoā€™s alwaysĀ just a step ahead, no matter what. so crane anticipated dick using oracle to track his personal communications and set him up? how did he know when exactly dick would get to do this? how long did he have that poor man tied up in that van?
(theĀ ā€œsave me, graysonā€ is a nice touch, tho. send dick spiralling even further! because if thereā€™s one thing dick will do, itā€™s take responsibility for every goddamn thing that goes wrong.)
9.5. ahem. iā€™m going to need a million gifs of conner yeeting dick across that yard, fandom, thankyouverymuch.
(i understand conner is invulnerable to explosions, but how do his clothes survive??)
9.8. oooh crane is already in oracle! iā€™m just sitting here laughing helplessly because theyā€™re overpowering this goddamned guy so much. he can build a lab in arkhamā€™s basement! he has access to lazarus puddles! he has minions working across gotham, including a fully functional chemical laboratory staffed by chemists who only answer to him! he has the crime families of gotham quailing in his very presence! he has assassins at his beck and call! heā€™s enough of a manipulative bastard to have red hood under his thumb! and now he has enough of a tech know-how to not only be aware of oracle, but know how to hack into it! iā€™m sick of exclamation marks! iā€™ll shut up now!
9.95. dick leaving behind that smouldering grave for a person he failed to save without taking a second to process how he feels about it and running towards his next plan to corner scarecrow: a microcosm of where his headā€™s at right now.
10. really hammering in the themes of this season, arenā€™t we.Ā
10.25. the interesting thing is the titans repeatedly call themselves a family this season (none more so than dick) and while that found family has helped encapsulate and put away their traumatic experiences with theirĀ ā€˜originalā€™ families, itā€™s meant that theyā€™ve not really dealt with those issues. and dick and gar and jason come fromĀ ā€˜found familiesā€™ of their own: they are twice removed, traumatised two times over. they still cling to this identity however, and because of it theyā€™re losing each other. a family isnā€™t static. itā€™s an ever-evolving dynamic and you have to put in work constantly to keep it healthy.
10.5. anyway, thatā€™s entry #2346. iā€™m here aaaalll night.
11. lookit gar the detective! half-transforming and using his powers to deduce things! what a hero! iā€™ve said this for a long time, but gar is the bedrockĀ of this team, and an unsung one at that.
11.25. iā€™m confused about him calling this room jasonā€™s though. it seems to me that this is dickā€™s room that jason later used, and one that dickā€™s using now. so the unmade bed isnā€™t really jasonā€™s fault; dick was woken by barbara that morning, and in his hurry, he left without making his bed.
(it still confounds me that bruce didnā€™t find jason another bedroomĀ in that gigantic mansion of his. you really didnā€™t give this kid a chance, did you?)
12. oh well. so much for the oracle.
13. ... sorry, wait. you didnā€™t think i wasnā€™tĀ going to address the bit with dick right now, did you?
12.5. i honestly donā€™t think itā€™s very complicated: dickā€™s been reeling from one traumatic thing to the next, and just when it seemed like at the beginning of the season, he felt happy and secure with his team and his place in the world, bruce ups and leaves gotham to him, specifically naming him a successor and calling him aĀ ā€˜better batmanā€™. heā€™s lost garth and jericho and donna and jason and now hank and dawn. heā€™s not even sure where rachel is or what sheā€™s doing. after being told that batman was a psychopath for moulding him into a weapon, heā€™s also been told that his failure to be aĀ ā€˜better batmanā€™ lead to further disaster. of courseĀ heā€™s going to get batman-goggles. of course heā€™s going to be a prick.Ā
12.8. i donā€™t know what to say. i feel his frustration acutely. i donā€™t think he shouldā€™ve said what he said to barbara (can people stop pushing her around this season????) but that pressure to step in where your parent fails? to clean up their messes and try to think like them? to fall into habits drilled into you when you developed them as coping mechanisms growing up? I FEEL THAT.Ā
every step heā€™s taking heā€™s putting 110% of himself in it and scarecrowā€™s stillĀ playing mindgames with all of them: i absolutely feel his desperation to take control of that game and turn it on scarecrow, no matter what it takes.
and he did apologise almost immediately, and finally--finally--actually works withĀ barbara.Ā
12.9. again, not excusing him! but i get it. and i think thatā€™s a sign of great character writing.
Tumblr media
ā€œdid you know i just reminded emmram of all of her daddy issues? what the fuck????ā€
12.95. i love that dick&barbara, kory&kom, and gar are all approaching solving this mystery from different angles, each as valid as the other. also, conner is there as... emergency bomb defuser man?
13. itā€™s like all fancy rich people in fancy rich houses do is pour fancy rich alcohol into fancy rich glasses on pristine, untouched tabletops. i wonder what itā€™s like to live like that.
13.25. I KNEW IT! poor michael. it was nice knowing you.
13.5. man, kory is contending with a lot of issues that sheā€™s successfully bottled up and compartmentalised until now. the cold reality that a child can seek out their parents as refuge and they can view the child as a piece to be moved in a greater game (never out of cruelty, though, never, and somehow that makes it worse), that truth of blackfireā€™s treatment on tamaran because sheā€™s different, and her own culpability in what happened. she exchanged one family for another, after all, and left that family to die and her sister to suffer. like dick, like gar, koryā€™s being forced to reckon with what the titans are meant to be, the larger implications of creating their found family in their own space.
14. itā€™s probably because itā€™s one in the morning and iā€™ve had two glasses of wine but i did not follow that bit of exposition at all and victor freeze???Ā what?Ā
anyway. look at them solving things! together! go team!
Tumblr media
ā€œyou made a deal with the mob?ā€ oh the sense of betrayal on his face! fuck off, dick, your issues arenā€™t koryā€™s.Ā
15. conner is really sweet and a bit of an awestruck crush on kom is to be expected. especially after that power rangers-esque transformation (i say this as a former hugeĀ power rangers fangirl. iā€™ve seen every series until 2007 includingĀ the original japanese versions and written fanfic for all of them. so i love a cool costume transformation, is what iā€™m saying.)
also?
Tumblr media
FUCK YEAH
16. i love the gotham crime families just chillinā€™ around eating ice cream. I LOVE THEM
16.5. that was a fun fight sequence, if marred slightly by that bit of awkward flirting between conner and kom. i wonder if sheā€™s really planning to use him in a larger scheme to get kory back to tamaran, or maybe something else.Ā
16.75. so iā€™m assuming that scarecrow has jason either so paralysed by fear that he can barely move, or jasonā€™s withdrawing from the drug that heā€™s been sucking in every few minutes.Ā
17. itā€™s nice to see them chill after a successful mission! and it can be awkward, but connerā€™s crush on kom and him striving to impress her is also, well, uh... cute.
17.5. i guess the dick/barbara scene was inevitable, especially given the... unresolved nature of their relationship in the flashbacks? and theyā€™ve been through a rollercoaster together this episode, discovering and then destroying an incredible tool within a matter of hours, re-discovering just how well they work together as a team. dickā€™s swimming in the nostalgia. i donā€™t expect it to last as a long-term relationship, but i totally get why this is happening now. and hey, theyā€™re cute!
i have a weeeirrrrd feeling that kory is going to leave to tamaran at the end of the season and that dick and kory will rekindle--or rather realise--their relationship just before that. itā€™s going to be devastating and beautiful and painful and i will be writing essays about it which would be me just wailing into the screen.
18. gar found molly!!!!!!! MOLLYā€™S BACK! \o/ gar is the BEST
19. that was a fun episode! i love this silly show, even if it does destroy me sometimes <3

Leave a message (after the beep!)
Suptober. Day 13: Rewind Dean has a few things to say to Cas. Word count: 2542 [Read on Ao3]
3 Weeks.
Dean's been stealing glances at his phone for over an hour. The dim light of the hall that creeps from under his door is the only reason he can see the thing, blurred out to a barely-there grey hunk of plastic.
The idea is fucking stupid. He doesn't care what Sam thinks. Sam wasn't even supposed to know. Let alone have fucking opinions.
But Dean slipped.
And it took more effort than he will ever admit to walk out of the kitchen without clocking his brother in the goddamn jaw.
Fuck Sam and fuck the phone.
He turns around, away from the stupidest temptation of his life, and demands sleep come.
It's only mildly successful.
2 Month, 1 Week.
Nothing bad can happen from a phone call. Doing it once canā€™t hurt you any more than you are now
Sam's a well-meaning kid. He really is. But sometimes he just needs to can it.
'Cause he had to go and say some shit like that, completely unprompted ā€” they were talking about potential witch activity in Utah, not Dean's feelings, for Christ's sake ā€” and now it's all Dean can think about now that the distractions of the day have bled into a dark room and cold bed.
And that gray hunk of plastic on his desk is laughing at him. He could reach it if he sat up. Stretched a bit.
But the idea is dumb. And Sam doesn't get it. He really fucking doesnā€™t.
Except Dean knows he's kind of full of crap.
He grits his teeth, shoves the covers to the side, and grabs his phone.
With each passing buzz, his heart stutters, breath cut into shorter and shorter spurts.
Stupidstupidstupid.
It- it isn't like he's gunna answer. Dean knows he not, but it just rings and rings and ā€”
"This is my voicemail. Make your voiceā€¦ a mail."
And it hurts.
He calls again every night for the next week. Of course, he never picks up. Sam doesn't ask.
4 Months.
Dean kicks the door after it slams shut. Throws his gun at his headboard, if it goes off and shoots him, oh fucking well. It's great. Just fantastic.
He pulls his phone out without thinking. Clicks Cas.
It rings, and for a moment his shoulders relax as the familiar greeting plays. Cause its Cas' voice. And fuck. Justā€¦ fuck.
Then it beeps, and he actually does the one thing he's wanted for months.
"None of your douchebag family will answer me. And I've tried friggin' everything, I swear to Christ."
He runs his hand over his face, glances up at the sour-yellow ceiling.
"How you ever stood them is beyond me dude."
And then, like a rational human being. He hangs up and pretends that whatever that was didn't happen.
Once the bitter taste of angels that donā€™t pick the fucking phone up from earlier that day fades, Dean stares at the darkened ceiling.
He left a voicemail. A fucking voicemail.
Pathetic.
4 Months, 3 Weeks.
So he hasn't called again since his, uh, slip up. And Sam keeps giving him these little looks. And he knows that Sam knows, and knows he isn't calling because he's a changed man or whatever.
Maybe Sam would drop it, whatever the hell he thinks Dean's mess is, if he could manage to eat.
Jody, Claire, Kaia, and Alex are all around the table with them. Jody's the charmer she always is, talking about how she's grateful for the help and oh, of course you guys are gunna stay for dinner! Ah-ah! No buts. Ā
There was a hunt in town she tracked down with Claire, a huge vamps nest ā€” we're talking dozens ā€” and called them over for help. And is now feeding them. Because she's a saint and never deserved to be in the know in the first place.
Dean looks at the food. Pork lathered in dark brown graveyard with a mountain of buttery mashed potatoes. There's a pile of carrots on Sam's plate. Dean opted out.
Not that he's eating now. No, mostly just pushing it all around. He does eat in general.
But Claire isn't looking at him. Hasn't. She barely managed a glance up when he saved her ā€” just a small nod and weary glance.
Sam, on the other hand, may as well be ogling.
Dean wishes he could read Sam's mind, find out where he's keeping it so Dean can wallow in misery without his brother being keen on some of the finer details, thank you very much.
He manages a few bites. Its excellent, mouth-watering, home-cooked goodness he's missed fiercely since he got a taste for it the few days Mrs. Butters was around.
But right now? Turns his stomach.
On the way back home, Sam clears his throat. Dean grips the wheel a little tighter.
"So ā€”"
"I didn't ask for your opinion, Samantha."
In the corner of his eye, Sam's shoulder slump. His brother looks down and sighs out a sad little noise.
But the rest of the drive is quiet. And that's a win in Dean's book.
*
It's roughly midnight, and books are scattered across the library table. They're all open to different pages, but none of it matters. Not really.
Dean's combing through it all anyway. Has been since Heavens decided they have a no-call policy with anyone named Winchester.
The piles he has laid around him have grown increasingly larger as the weeks have drug on. Spiked exponentially when he decided not to call anymore.
"Hey Dean."
Dean snaps his head up mid-sentence. Sam stands in the threshold, holding a plate. In pajamas.
Dean just looks at him. "What?"
"Made you food." He lifts the plate up a fraction
"That looks like a cold cut, so made is a generous word."
Sam has the audacity to slump into himself, full-on wounded-puppy mode. So Dean rolls his eyes and waves him over.
The plate gets sat down with a distinct clank, and Sam pats his shoulder.
"You know I justā€¦ want what's best for you."
Dean tenses his shoulders, closes the book in front of him. He speaks through his teeth.
"Yeah, well I never had it in the first place. And now it is gone, and there's nothing I can do."
"You don't know that Dean."
He glues his eyes to the back of the book. Balls his fists.
"Don't I? That ā€” That fucking thing just ā€”"
"I know. But it's also gone. We don't know what happened."
Dean chooses then to look over, fix his brother with a proper glare so he'll go the hell away ā€” but sees it.
Sitting innocuously on the plate, like it isn't an affront to everything Dean would rather not, is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Sam's talking but he can't hear it. His brains turned to mush, a radio-static circus of nothing.
The bottom of his chair screeches as it drags against the floor.
And Dean canā€™t see.
Sam grabs his arm, he shakes it off. He moves decisively, tries too, but his eyes prickle and he canā€™t see shit, and he isnā€™t about to cry right there in front of his brother, validate every stupid thought the guy has thatā€™s probably one-hundred percent right.
His door clicks shut, and he pressed himself against it. Slides down until he hits the icy floor.
Dean's throat is a constricted cage, each breath in has to be muscled in, down, out. Each wobble as much as the last.
Sam doesn't know shit. He doesnā€™t know what he's talking about. He really doesn't.
Calling someone who canā€™t answer, wonā€™t ever answer, is fucking stupid. It's not therapeutic.
When he rubs a hand over his face. It comes back wet, and his eyes sting.
"Fuck."
He fishes for his phone. Going to Cas' number is muscle memory at this point.
It rings. Cause Sam can't help but keep the thing charged.
"This is my voicemail. Make your voiceā€¦ a mail."
The ball in his chest is impossibly tight. Why hasn't he called? Just to hear him again, the gruff tenor that's like gravel and silk and the only thing he ever wants to hear, ever. And now he only has nine words he'll ever hear him say again.
That's it. Two sentences.
You saved the whole world. He didnā€™t save shit.
And what the fuck is he supposed to do now? How is he supposed to do anything? Heā€™s never been any good, not as good as he needs to be. Maybe if he wouldā€™ve been ā€” or did somethinā€™ different, anything different ā€”
Dean threads his fingers in his hair and balls his fist. Squeezes his eyes shut against the pool of tears that just leak out, and curls in on himself. His guts are twisted and tight, just like the rest of him. Every part of him shakes, the hand vice-gripping his hair should hurt, should be enough to pull him back to sanity, but the tears donā€™t stop.
And really what does it matter if he cries. Chucks gone, and The Empty, that ā€” that thing got what was coming to it.
But Cas didn't come back.
He lulls his head against the door, untangles the hand from his hair like his fingers piston operated they ache so bad
God, Cas shouldā€™ve just left him in Hell.
Maybe he's Heaven, Billy had said with a shrug. Casual. Like she didn't understand. And Dean knows she does. She gets it more than any of them, saw just what this shit did the last time. Saw exactly how much he didn't want to be around.
Jack had to fuck off to put the universe in balance, so heā€™s MIA and no help. And Heaven doesn't seem to give a shit.
There must've been a beep somewhere, so Dean just goes with it. Presses the phone to his ear again and works his jaw open until itā€™s loose enough to allow something resembling words can happen.
"It's ā€” it's bullshit." God Dean can't recognize his own voice, pulled thin and hoarse. "You ā€” you know that right? Bullshit." He shakes his head. Tries to take a deep breath that comes out only slightly less ragged. "You always left. And I ā€” I get that you had to sometimes. But no one wanted you here more than me."
He wipes his face off with the collar of his shirt. His skull screams in sharp pain, and his temples thud. And normally this would be too long of a pause, but normally you don't start a voicemail off trying not to sob, and normally they're made for people who can actually listen to them. So whatever.
"This is stupid. It's not ā€” voicemails ain't your style." His breath leaves, and exhaustion sets deep into his bones. "You always just called back for the explanation. You'd leave 'em, though."
At least Dean assumes. Every call back he'd ever gotten from the guy he'd have to fill him in on whatever was happening anyway. Guess it makes sense in a way. If you have enough time to listen to a message, you've got enough time to call.
The space behind his robes aches when he says, "We both shoulda picked up more, I guess. And Sammy wants me to call now. Like it makes up for shit. It doesn't."
He swipes the little red phone to the left, and stares at the word Cas in his contacts page.
But the screen goes blank, and all he can see are his puffy red eyes reflected in the black screen, and that's motivation, so he gets ready for bed.
1 Year, 10 Months, 13 Days
He calls a few times after that. But tries not to leave voicemails for someone that's just gone, in every sense of the word.
Itā€™s dumb. Still really dumb. And he has no defense for it. Eventually Sam hands him Cas' old phone and a charger. All of the missed voicemails untouched.
Dean could swear he remembers ever last one.
They're mostly simple crap, sometimes. Updates.
"Sam and Eileen are getting hitched. They're pretty fucking disgusting together. But sometimes they look at me, and I can just see it, man. See how they like, bubble themselves off." He laughs, but it's strained. Ā "Guess it just be written on my face. Which is just frigginā€™ fantastic. Cause I'm happy for them. I've always wanted that for Sam. But I wanted it for us too. Fucked up that I can only say it now, huh."
"I don't like the way burgers taste anymore. And I, uh, have a bumper sticker now. It's a bee. I kept it together until Sam got misty-eyed." There's a pause for a touch too long, then, "That mixtapes been the only thing in Baby for a month."
"I kept the trenchcoat. Wore it earlier. Got cold out for the first time since ā€”" he sighs. "You wore it better. Looks like shit on me. It pretty much lives in my closet. Can't get monster guts on it that way."
But sometimes it's just a confession, none of the other bullshit. Just the truth.
"Look. I'm not mad. So don't think that. Cause I'm not. Wish I was. It's ā€” it's always been easier. But I was trying to get my head on straight. I would've for you. I justā€¦ Don't know how now."
"Can't tell if I like using your old angel blade or fucking hate it. Don't like much of anything anymore. You were better with it."
"Id pray to you, but this is all I got. And I wish I could hope you're up there. But then I'd hope there isn't any pay per view Earth or whatever. Cause this shit? Is pitiful." A sigh. "G'night, Cas."
And one night, a long time later, he's sitting with his back against his bed, nestled next to the end table he never used, he says the truth in a way he knows he should've years and years ago.
"Guess this is like prayin', ain't it? Sammy caught me a few months ago. He wasn't even surprised I'm still doing this. Told me it was, uh ā€” It was okay. Even if I justā€¦ never did. And you know what? I don't think l can." He gives a small laugh. "Hell, I only leave messages when I'm feeling, I dunno, brave? Like some part of me thinks you could still hear it and tell me to get lost."
Logically, he knows Cas wouldn't have kicked him to the curb. Wanted him just as much.
"God I listen to it almost every night dude. Just hearing this stupid fucking line ā€” Ā It's like hitting rewind, for a few seconds."
The rest comes off easy, in its own way
"I miss you, Buddy. And I ā€” I love you more than I know what to do with. I wish it would've been enough. But instead, it killed you."
He ends it, and calls back. Just to listen to the only thing he'll ever hear Cas say again. Itā€™s not a replacement, never will be until he can see if Heaven really does have an angels left.
But the only faith he ever had is just an echo on the other end.
"This is my voicemail. Make your voiceā€¦ a mail."

LONESTARS GUIDE TO THE WAYNES AND KANES OF GOTHAM CITY PART ONE REDUX
BRUCE WAYNES UNCLES AND AUNTS(Including by marriage) EDITION
WAYNES
ā€œWaynes never stay down. We RISEā€
The Wayne's are one of the so called first families of Gotham
also known as theĀ Founding Families of GothamĀ or more simply, the FiveĀ FamiliesĀ are the fiveĀ familiesĀ affiliated with the creation ofĀ GothamĀ as a city.
Tumblr media
AGATHA WAYNE
First appearance: Batman issue 89 February 1955
Agatha has been discribed as Thomas Wayne frail elder sister. She occasionally visits Bruce when heā€™s a adult. On Earth Two where she originally debuted itā€™s been said that she helped out the next person on this list with young Bruce whenever she could.
It could be possible that either Agatha or the next person on our list was the one to inherit the families gotham based ancestral home based on earth two/Golden age Bruce buying a mansion to live in shortly before becoming Batman
Agatha has a counterpart on new earth/post COIE who is said to be the only sibling of Thomas Wayne(still as a older sister.).
It is unknown if she has ever had kids. On Earth Two there is evidence that Bruce has at least one possibly 1st cousin on his fathers side who I will talk about in another post Iā€™m planning on making about Bruceā€™s cousins.
Tumblr media
PHILIP WAYNE (Not to be confused with Marthaā€™s brother of the same first name whose farther down this list)
First Earth-One appearance: Batman issue 208 February 1969
Originally introduced in the earth-one era of comics it is later revealed that a Philip Wayne did exist on the earlier earth-two in Secret Origins Vol 2 #6 (September, 1986)
On both Earth-One and Earth-Two Philip Wayne was the one who took young Bruce in after he was orphaned.
It is unknown who is older between him and Thomas but based on the appearance of Earth-One Philip(white hair and mustache) I would say that Philip was the older one at least on that earth where both he and Thomas took charge of the family business AKA Wayne Enterprise.
On Earth-Two Thomas was the one to inherit the family fortune suggesting that he was the eldest of the two Wayne sons on that Earth. Earth-Two Philip is only seen once and itā€™s only a silhouette of him.
It is unknown if he has ever had kids. On Both Earth-Two as well as as Earth-One there is evidence that Bruce has at least one possible paternal 1st cousin on each. Both of them I will talk about in another post Iā€™m planning on making about Bruceā€™s cousins.
Tumblr media
Vanderveer Wayne SR.
first appearance: Powerless episode 3
For the sake of this post I will say a Fourth Wayne sibling to my knowledge has never appeared in the comics HOWEVER a paternal Uncle Of Bruce was introduced in the short lived TV show Powerless as Vanderveer Wayne SR.
Vanderveer Wayne, Sr. was the original boss of Wayne Security, before passing the job to his son Vanderveer Wayne Jr and taking a position on the board of directors of Wayne Enterprise.
Tumblr media
Patricia Wayne
First Appearance: Pennyworth episode One
The elder sister of Thomas Wayne. She has been described and shown to be a typical rich party girl who according to Thomas apparently likes to cause scandals that drag the Wayne name through the mud. The foolish sibling to Thomas responsible sibling. They bicker and she calls him names but like any typical siblings they still love eachother.
ON PRIME EARTH/NEW 52 it is said that Thomas Wayne was a only child. As of may 4 2021 none of the other Wayne siblings has so far made a appearance in Any Comics set on Prime earth. But hey screw Canon right?
KANES
ā€œWe Stand TOGETHERā€
The Kane family was cited as being so rich that the only parts of Gotham that were not owned by them were those owned by the Wayne Family.
NATHAN KANE
First mentioned in Batman Incorporated(donā€™t quote me on that) taking place on New Earth And is confirmed to exist on Prime Earth as well.
Not much is known about Nathan. We donā€™t even have a proper picture of him. What we do know is that he is the eldest son(Batman Incorporated vol 1 #4)and he was the one who inherited both the family fortune as well as the family Crest Hill Estate after family Patriarch and Matriarch Roderick and Elizabeth/Elisabeth(seen it spelt both ways) both died. He is called the golden scion of the family.
On New Earth He married the original Batwoman aka Katherine Webb-Kane the year Batman became active in Gotham. He was apparently 40 when he started dating 25 year old Kathy Webb-Kane, 43 when he finally married(the year Batman age 25 debuted in Gotham) and 47 when he died.
Tumblr media
Kathy Webb-Kane/ Katrina ā€œLukaā€ Netz.
First Earth-One appearance: Detective Comics #233 (July, 1956)
First Earth-Two Appearance: The Brave and the Bold #182 (January, 1982)
First New Earth Appearance:Batman #678 (August, 2008)
First Prime Earth Appearance:Batman Incorporated Vol 2 #10 (June, 2013
The Original Batwoman!
Strap in because this is a long one.
On Earth-One her history is as follows: Kathy Kane was a wealthy heiress who gained great acrobatic skills during her career as a circus trapeze artist and stunt cyclist. Becoming infatuated with the Batman, she fashioned herself a costume and secret hide-out and started operating as Batwoman. At first she upstaged Batman and his sidekick Robin in capturing crooks. However, Batman eventually learned her true identity and tracked her to her secret cave hide-out. Showing her how easily it was for him to learn her identity, Batman pointed out that criminals could probably do it just as easily and tried to convince her to drop out of crime fighting. Disobeying Batman's advice, she tried to capture mobster Curt Briggs. During this caper, Batman went missing and Briggs, struck with amnesia, left thinking he was Batman. Ultimately the real Batman reappeared, and Biggs was turned over to the police. Afterwards, Batwoman went back to retirement. However, Kathy Kane became tired of the dull life of a rich heiress and came out of retirement once more in order to recapture a criminal named Elton Cragg. It was during this case that Batwoman gained super-powers and after her heroic deeds, she convinced Batman to let her continue her crime-fighting career. Ironically, around this time, Kathy started dating Bruce Wayne and she started to fall in love with Batman, unaware that they were the same person.
When Bruce Wayne was framed for a crime he didn't commit, Batwoman teamed-up with Robin in order to clear Batman's name. During an undercover mission, Batwoman was captured by a criminal leader and was rescued by the Dynamic Duo. When both Batwoman and reporter Vicki Vale were nominated Gotham City's "Woman of the Year", both tried to upstage each other to get the lead in the contest. With the help of Batman and Robin, both Vicki and Batwoman captured Moose Molloy's gang and both were crowned woman of the year. When Batman and Robin were trapped in a cave in, Ace the Bat-Hound guided Batwoman to help free them and capture the criminal Dr. Midas. Batwoman next helped the Dynamic Duo capture Firefly, aided them in preventing Lex Luthor from atomizing Superman, and helped them capture the Spinner. Batwoman later met with Bat-Mite and working together, they captured some crooks to save the Dynamic Duo.After this adventure, Bat-Mite became infatuated with Batwoman and tried to become her sidekick, creating chaos for everyone until he realized his mistake and left. When trying to solve the mystery of who murdered Professor Lacy after his discovery of a living caveman, Batwoman was saved by the caveman who sacrificed himself to save her from Lacy's killer: Harbin, Lacy's assistant. When Kathy Kane purchased a mystical belt, she becames a target of the criminal Star-Man. The belt sucked Batwoman's life energy from her body and she was saved by Batman and Robin, who arrived in time to stop Star-Man.
When Kathy's niece Betty Kane came to visit her, the young girl learned of her aunt's double identity. Kathy agreed to train Betty to be her sidekick, thinking that the young girl would eventually lose interest. However, to her surprise, Betty proved capable and became Batwoman's sidekick Bat-Girl. On their first mission, the two women helped Batman and Robin defeat King Cobra and his gang.Batwoman then became a victim of Luthor's experiments, who manipulated Kathy and gave her super-powers to fight her allies. After a long struggle, Superman managed to break Lex's control over Kathy and she returned to normal. When Batman and Robin were briefly transformed into alien creatures, Batwoman was one of the few who actually believed they were the real Dynamic Duo, until they were restored to normal. She later helped Batman and Robin capture the "Rockets" Rogan Gang. Later, after Batman and Batwoman were captured by the Moth, they were rescued by Bat-Girl and Robin. Later, Kathy went on a date with Bruce Wayne to an amusement park that was previously the location where the Justice League of America recently had a battle. As Batwoman, Kathy joined Batman on a trip to Washington D.C. to testify to the Senate Committee, leaving their young sidekicks to defend Gotham City in their absence. She next aided Batman and Robin in capturing the criminal known as the Vulcan.
Kathy's romances with Bruce Wayne and Batman became rocky, first during a period where Bruce Wayne was briefly transformed into a child, he made it appear that he's seeing another woman in order to keep Kathy away, and later when Batman, while under the effect of a love potion, fell in love with a woman named Elsie.Kathys romance woes became more complicate when Alpha, the Experimental Man fell in love with her, until the artificial man sacrificed himself to save her from falling off a cliff.
When helping Batman and Robin solve a murder during Mardis Gras, she got into a feud with Vicki Vale over who is the right person for Batman, forming the first of many competitions for Batman's affections. She later helped Batman capture Catman.
When she and Batman were briefly transported to another dimension by invaders from that world, their mortality was in question unless they were freed. During this period, Batwoman managed to get Batman to warm up and admit some of his feelings toward her before they were rescued by Robin and Bat-Girl.
Batwoman's feud with Vicki Vale heat up again when both women tried to determine if Mirror Man's assertions that Bruce Wayne was really Batman were true. When Batman scolded Batwoman for getting in the way of his attempts to capture Catman, she faked her intentions to join the criminal as Cat-Woman, until Catman seemingly died in the battle.Batwoman and Bat-Girl later helped the Dynamic Duo end a feud between the Joker and Clayface, and helped Batman and Robin capture the Terrible Trio
Once more suspecting that Batman and Bruce Wayne are the same man, Kathy Kane was convinced otherwise when Superman posed as Batman. However the plan went awry when a bomb goes off seemingly killing "Batman" and necessitating Superman to pose as the ghost of Batman for a time.
When Batman was briefly transformed into a gigantic creature, Batwoman teamed-up with Robin and Ace the Bat-Hound to track down the crooks that have the cure. After this, Catman reappeared and discovered his costume had mystical properties that gave him nine-lives, allowing him to continue on his crime spree. With her Cat-Woman costume, Batwoman helped Batman and Robin capture him.
Following this adventure, Batwoman went into retirement and disappear from Batman's life almost entirely. She become the owner of a circus, but often longed to return to her former crime fighting career.
Batwoman came out of retirement to aid Batgirl(Barbara Gordon)against Killer Moth and the Cavalier, but her return was never intended to be permanent.Kathy Kane was then present at a surprise party for Bruce Wayne at Wayne Manor. When Batwoman was later disintegrated into nothingness on Barbara Gordon's doorstep, Batgirl and Robin teamed-up to find the cure and restore Batwoman to her normal form. Shortly after this, Batwoman met the Huntress from Earth-Two and aided her in capturing Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Madame Zodiac. When the Freedom Fighters of Earth-X searched for a group of criminals known as the Warmakers, their search led them to the carnival owned by Kathy Kane. Kathy, as Batwoman, aided the Freedom Fighters and Batgirl in defeating the Warmakers. In her last recorded adventure, Kathy Kane was murdered by the League of Assassins who were being manipulated by Ra's al Ghul. Her death was eventually avenged by Batman.
Katherine Kane was also known as Batwoman in the Earth-Two timeline. Her history and career are said to reflect that of her Earth-One counterpart, except for that version's untimely death. When Kathy adopted the role of Batwoman, Batman wanted her to retire from the role for fear that she would be hurt in her costumed exploits. Kane would continue to operate in her costumed identity until she learned that Batman had become deeply romantically interested in someone in his unmasked identity. While Wayne never revealed his identity to her, or explicitly told her of his private life, she said she knew of his change in his attitude to her and assumed as such. She largely retired from her costumed role soon after this. Years later, she learned that Wayne was the original Batman when his costume identity was revealed to the general public after his own demise. Not long after this, Kane resumed her costumed identity when she learned of the presence of a "new" Batman. When she found him, Kathy learned that this Batman belonged in the alternate timeline of Earth-One, but the emotional shock of seeing Batman alive was still great. However, Kathy realized that he was not the love of her life reborn, but was a completely new person.
On New Earth her history is as follows
By age 25, Kathy Webb was an underground film director, a poet, and something of a wild child. But when she met Nathan Kane(who we already established as being a brother to Martha Wayne) , he bought her a circus, and she fell head-over-heels in love with him. They were together for seven years and married for four of those same years(thus making her a aunt by marriage to Bruce,Kate, Beth, And Bette) before he died of a stroke. After this, she was approached by a secret organization called Spyral to find out Batman's secret identity. Assessing the information on the Caped Crusader, she decided the best approach was to make him chase her. To that end, she brushed up on detective skills, martial arts and motor-biking, got a costume and started calling herself Batwoman. Her plan worked, and within a few months they were an item. However, Batman was careful not to give her his secret identity, and in fact worked out hers first. This, coupled with her feelings for Batman, lead her to try and break off ties with Spyral. However, her employer, the mysterious Agent-Zero, turned the tables on her, forcing her to break off on both sides, which she did. She was believed to be killed by the Bronze Tiger on behalf of the League of Assassins. The second Batwoman Kate Kane(who like Her cousins Bruce and Bette is Kathyā€™s relative by way of marriage) investigated the murder, but could not find anything. That was because she was never killed; after a staged death, she worked behind the scenes with Spyral to stop Leviathan. She eventually succeeded in shooting Talia al Ghul during her final standoff with Batman, before claiming that she would not be meeting Batman again, leaving to continue leading Spyral.
On Prime Earth she is Katrina "Luka" Netz one of Spyral's oldest members and the daughter of the former Director of Spyral Herr Netz. Kathy presumably being a alias that she used. Based on what I read in the comics I believe her role as Batwoman is still be canon due to nightwing recognizing her voice at one point and if not then at least her marriage to Nathan Kane is still canon.

PHILIP KANE
First appearance: Batman vol 2 issue 21 August 2013
Introduced during Zero Year(the volume heā€™s introduced in isnā€™t in the hardback version however) on Prime Earth Philip Kane ran Wayne Enterprise in Bruceā€™s absence. While Bruce was traveling the world training, Philip held down the business with his adviser Edward Nygma(we all know how well that turned out)
He had studied to be a geologist as a younger man, he was on a Expedition in northern Mexico when his father Roderick learned that he was dying and had came to get Philip to take him back home. Philip and his father fought because he didnā€™t want to go. Their fighting resulted in Philip splitting his head open which resulted in him getting a metal plate in his head.
He had given up that dream to take up the responsibility of helping to run the family business. During the Time that Bruce was abroad Philip managed to in his own words ā€œFinally Merged the familiesā€ with both families companies(Kane Materials/Kane indrustries, Wayne Industry)seemingly merging into Wayne Enterprise.
Philip was the one who had Bruce Wayne declared legally dead which Bruce originally didnā€™t want to reverse. Philip Kane was also the one who was able to mostly track where Bruce was during his training. Not even Alfred knew where he was.
Philip was unfortunately blackmailed like many other citizens of Gotham by Red Hood One into joining the Red Hood gang. Being branded ā€œRed Hood 347ā€, Philip did the bidding of the gang leader until Kane turned. During Batmanā€™s assault on Red Hood One at the Ace chemical processing plant(which ironically on new earth used to belong to the Kane family as Kane Chemicals before being sold and the company Renamed Ace Chemicals )Philip gave his life to distract the Red Hood while the villain was going to kill Batman.
Trivia:Philip Kane was the one who originally own the Giant Penny whose forging he had overseen himself.
THE UNSEEN UNNAMED PARENTS OF MARY ELIZABETH(Bette) KANE
No names or appearances have ever been given for these two.
Betteā€™s mom was mentioned in one issue of Batwoman and that was it. Seriously it was one where it's implied she already gave up on her daughter surviving her injuries and so she was off panel implied to be talking to the doctors about donating bettes organs or something when Jacob kane was rambling besides a comatose bette. Yeah it was implied that they moved out to the west coast and lived in California because I believe that's where bette grew up in most continuities.
Next up is one every one who kept up with Bat related related comics since 2011 should be very familiar with

They eventually moved to Brussels in Belgium, since the parents were now serving at NATO. However, the family was soon torn apart due to a terrorist attack. Gabi took her daughters out to celebrate their twelfth birthday, and they were kidnapped by heavily armed men. Military intelligence eventually located the hostages, and Jacob was put in charge of the tactical unit sent to rescue them. However, they were too late, as his wife had been executed and his daughter Elizabeth was believed to be dead. He rescued Kate himself, but she was traumatized by the sight of her dead mother and sister.
Colonel Kane plays an important role in his daughterā€™s Batwoman operations. He provides her a one-man command, control, and communications center. They stay in constant radio link, with the elder Kane being able to run searches, provide advice, and generally work in the background using his considerable knowledge, contacts and experience. Colonel Kane primarily uses his connections and his intelligence-gathering and management skills. He has access to numerous databases that are normally only accessible to military and law enforcement personnel to provide intel to his daughter.
Jacob is the next kane sibling most people would know about in part thanks to both his comic appearances In multiple bat comics as well as his appearance on the arrowverse batwoman tv show.

On Prime Earth When her sister-in-law Martha died she went to the funeral with both her husband and Kids. She reminded her husband that not all of Martha was dead(referring to Bruce) Eventually, the Kanes moved to Brussels, Belgium, since the parents were now serving at NATO. The family, however, was torn apart due to a terrorist attack. As Gabi was taking her daughters for their 12th birthday, they were kidnapped by heavily armed men. Military intelligence eventually located the hostages, and Jacob was put in charge of the tactical unit sent to rescue them. However, they were too late, as Gabi had been executed. Jacob rescued Kate himself, but she was traumatized by the sight of her dead mother and her supposedly dead sister.

Catherine Hamilton-Kane
First New Earth appearance: 52 #7 (August, 2006)(in a photograph alongside her husband)/Detective Comics Vol 1 #856 October, 2009
First Prime Earth Appearance: Batwoman Vol 2 #0 (November, 2012)
Heiress to the Hamilton arms fortune(called Hamilton dynamics in the batwoman tv show), and second wife of Jacob Kane.
Cathy is a jet-setter and socialite involved in politics. The Hamilton fortune was built upon guns. Catherine family owned the enormously successful Hamilton company, which apparently became a household name during the days of the Old West Firearms. Appears to care greatly for her niece by marriage(one can assume she might feel the same for Bruce if and when she finds out heā€™s Batman) if the way she reacted to finding out about Bette being a vilgilante in the comics is any indication.

MASTERLIST
ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”
The third year of residency began for our doctors of Edenbrook Hospital. Sorry BloomBrook Hospital. Oops again itā€™s Bloom Edenbrook ladies and gentlemen. Mistakes happen please.
More like a broom which has cleaned all of what the old hospital looked like.
And it had cleaned peopleā€™s character too.
And she knew this was going to happen one day. Before she would sleep her mind would go in the most irrelevant thoughts and think about what rich people can do to the other category.
The middle classes and the poor ones.
Of course she was part of the rich people but never spent her money for her pleasure nor she did accept her parents money to live. Because she wanted to be independent and to show that she could do everything on her own until the day of being a doctor came.
Her friends were the most excited ones to see the big changes of their new (as she would call) ā€œtourists attractionā€ hospital and the facilities that were put in every corner like it was a casinoā€™s place or a museum with advanced technology equipments. She didnā€™t share the same thoughts with them. When Jackie, Bryce and Rafael invited her to the massage place she refused it and said the same thing to Elijah for playing ping pong. While Sienna was enjoying the new coffee machine Aurora saw her leaving the rest room with a concerned look.
ā€œHey.ā€ She took her arm gently. ā€œYou okay? You seem to be lost on yourself.ā€
ā€œDo I really give that impression?ā€
ā€œWell if we donā€™t see you carefully then it is obvious. Look... I know that your tensing and I can imagine whatā€™s like but I think we should try to fit into this kind of-ā€œ
ā€œChange? No thanks. I donā€™t think I will... I just need to go Aurora and please tell the others that Iā€™m in an operation room.ā€
ā€œSure...as you wish Klaw. But if you need to talk again Iā€™m here. We are here.ā€
She only nodded with a smile.
Klaw wasnā€™t mad about this. Of course she wanted the best for the hospital and in many others too. To provide everything in need for the patients. But the thing she worried about was the fact that Leland would be always sneaking into the diagnostics office and reminding her team to work about his wifeā€™s case. She didnā€™t know how someone like him can be such a deliberate and a money maniac to take over a hospital which he didnā€™t have any idea how to actually handle it.
Klaw had a fear that his stubbornness and insistence will give serious affects to all of the medical staff and all of this faƧade would break down (that she really hoped) one day and someone else would direct it.
She was thinking of someone who knows all the struggles, all the concerns and all the medical training staff.
The one and only.
Dr. Naveen Banerji.
He was the best option for her to be not only the chief but the boss of this building. One of the most hardworking doctors in his forty years of experience in the field of medicine- who else could surpass him?
But he was nowhere to be seen and Klaw started to worry if Bloom had done something to him. She could feel a pang on her chest that something wasnā€™t right.
All of this glorious and masquerade day would be soon vanished and then the real face of Leland Bloom would appear and no one- not even the bravest doctors could face him if he or she didnā€™t want to lose their jobs.
She had to find the answers.
Ethan.
She opened the door of Diagnostics Office where she finds unexpectedly Harper Emery seated comfortably on her chair, Ethan the same too and also a never-seen-such pensive Baz staring blankly at a point. She could understand his condition right now and she wanted nothing more than to give him a friends comfort hug.
It was really strange to see Harper in the diagnostics team but in the same time she was glad for her presence as with her intelligence could help the team solving the cases. In fact she was hoping if Jackie or Aurora would join the team because they both have worked hard for the place she was holding now. But maybe because June was an attending it had to be replaced by another attending considering that Harper wasnā€™t anymore the Chief of Medicine. She congratulated her, gave a hug and then began with their first case.
Ethan could feel that even behind of that smile and reasonable face of his resident was something doubtful that he knew very well. Maybe it was about Harperā€™s appearance. He knew that she wasnā€™t jealous and never would be. Klaw had such an ego that sometimes had scared him and many times he thought that if her character was really like this. He shouldā€™ve told her before Harper would join the team and felt somehow guilty about it considering now that their past was gone for good.
In the meantime a voice interrupted them which definitely made them annoyed. Especially her.
ā€œWell hereā€™s our best diagnostics team working along fighting to beat the impossible things!ā€ He saw their hardened gazes as he leaned on the door. ā€œAm I interrupting something doctors?ā€
Klawā€™s chest was rising and falling from his scrutinised face that asked such a dumb question and couldnā€™t even hold herself. ā€œYes you are interrupting us. Are you happy now?ā€
ā€œOuch Dr. Craig.ā€ He acted as if he was hurt. ā€œThat was really mean. I expected better from you and your leaving during my speech gave me a slight concern.ā€ His voice was playful and didnā€™t seem to care that much what the young resident just admitted.
Yes- she left. When he grabbed the microphone standing in the center of everyone up in the railway and giving his speech of the new Edenbrook she couldnā€™t stand it and walked away while digging fingers on her palms whereas her friends were still standing there listening.
Her debate with Bloom when he gave the cheque- that day was still imprinted on her mind and couldnā€™t forget it. She ripped it without thinking twice. Not even taking her friendā€™s or Ethanā€™s opinion because she knew the game of the rich: ā€˜Once you give your palm, they take your arm.ā€™ And she knew he remembered too- the scene in front of her still fresh on her mind.
ā€œI will never and ever make compromise with someone like you because I know how you are going to treat us. Firstly youā€™ll just do some cocktails party and youā€™ll build all the facilities the hospital needs until everyone would be gawked by your marvelous project. Then after seeing these the doctors and the nurses will forget their duties and start to have much more fun with their high wages that a hell knows what will happen next and then all this thing of yours will turn not into a hospital- but into a circus. And you will be the main clown.ā€
He then admired her witty response and said it was just a testing for her but she could tell that he was pissed off when she left his mansion.
By the way Mr. Bloom your constant trying to make the impossible to possible will be a failure. I suggest to you to spend your time with something much more valuable.
And she hoped he would give up. But no.
ā€œYou should be worried.ā€ She replied angrily not breaking her glare.
ā€œDr. Craig.ā€ Ethan reminded again and gave her a stoic expression to not continue it anymore because it wasnā€™t worthy. She silenced herself letting him handle it. ā€œYes Leland do you have any issues that you came here suddenly?ā€
ā€œOh nothing at all... just wanted to see how your team selects the cases.ā€
Is he serious?
ā€œSimple. I review the available cases and select the ones most needing our attention. Why? Are you planning to ā€˜overhaulā€™ that process as well?ā€
ā€œOh not at all! Your teamā€™s reputation is stellar, so youā€™re clearly doing something right.ā€ Said with a chuckle. ā€œRest assured, I want to make sure you still choose cases that interest and challenge you. That part wonā€™t be changed.ā€
Ethan nodded in agreement or almost in agreement. ā€œRight as I was saying-.ā€
ā€œI only have one request. I want this team to run more democratically... horizontal leadership if you will. In my experience, hierarchies are the death of good ideas.ā€
Klaw narrowed her eyebrows to a shocking-but-composing-himself Ethan knowingly as if giving him a message.
ā€˜You wanted to deal with him? Here he is. Right in front of you.ā€™
Harper saw her hardened gaze fixated to Ethan as they exchanged quick glances. She knew they were both stubborn people but never thought Klaw would react such in that way towards Leland. It wasnā€™t her. Harper knew her limits and she needed a bit of comfort later.
ā€œBut...why?ā€ Baz finally asked and it was weird to Klaw that she was hearing his voice now. This was a strange feeling. ā€œOur team has worked perfectly with Ethanā€™s leadership... and if youā€™re impressed with your results...ā€
ā€œAhh but what if those results could be even more impressive? We canā€™t know without at least running a test.ā€
Ethan scratched his beard in thoughts. ā€œI see your point. Youā€™re saying that every team needs its own leadership.ā€ Maybe that wasnā€™t such a bad idea to him he thought even though he didnā€™t want to agree with everything he said.
ā€œExactly! Iā€™m glad you understood it! So your votes are-?ā€
ā€œObviously I vote for yes. I think thereā€™s no one else who could say no.ā€
ā€œIā€™m with Ethan since heā€™s the expert here. Baz what about you?ā€ Harper asked.
ā€œOh me? Uhm... yeah I vote the same way.ā€
ā€œWha-ā€œ
ā€œWhat about you Dr. Craig?ā€ This time it was Leland who was asking while cutting Harper to do the same. Harper tried to smile even though she was annoyed too.
That seemed to get her attention back to reality. Because she was pretending to not listen to them even though it was disrespectful and she didnā€™t care.
While they were talking she got a message from Edgar that Naveen hadnā€™t been in the hospital today altogether with Zaid and Simon. What the hell was going on? Have these men been dusted from Bloom or what? Whatever the reason her suspicions were going to form the puzzle inside of her mind. And she hoped it wouldnā€™t be an unsolved issue.
ā€œI vote for... No.ā€ She said indifferently catching everyoneā€™s attention. Ethanā€™s especially while he was parting his lips. ā€œI donā€™t think that we are prepared well enough to form new leaderships in our new teams. We need to do a lot of training for interns and residents who want to be part of this kind of programme and I think is going to take a lot of time.ā€
ā€œI see...Well sorry to say it but the most wins Dr. Craig.ā€ His expression was in an amusing way. ā€œAnd I think you should agree with the new...changes.ā€
ā€œOf course I will Mr. Bloom.ā€ She said with a plastered smile but surely was cursing under her breath.
With that he left the office when his phone rang giving them now the space the doctors needed. They discussed the case and set the treatment but the resident was not so much interested on it as that rat face wouldnā€™t get out from her mind. Harper and Baz had already left and she was about to do the same but his voice (as always) stopped her.
ā€œCan we talk a bit?ā€
ā€œFor what? About how I seem to you right now? Jealous to Harper?ā€ She scoffed.
ā€œWhat? I didnā€™t say anything and my discussion is n-.ā€
ā€œYou didnā€™t but yet I can see that. Your eyes are telling me that you still think I am that clueless intern girl right?ā€
ā€œHow can you even think about this? Iā€™ve never called you clueless and I know that youā€™re not jealous about Harper.ā€
She looked like she wasnā€™t believing him and it worried him as how was possible that she had lost it? Did she lost his trust? Then before he could add something else she didnā€™t let him speak again.
ā€œHow could you agree with him?ā€ Obviously the question was for Bloom and Ethan was thinking for mere seconds if she heard his words before or not.
ā€œIt was the only way.ā€
ā€œYou think by siding with him everything would go as flowing as it was?ā€
This was already too much to him. Enough was enough.
ā€œAnd with your behaviour you think you can solve anything?ā€ He spit back.
ā€œExcuse me?ā€ She frowned shockingly.
ā€œYes- your snarky, ironic responses are not helping us and weā€™re just losing our time instead of doing our job!ā€
ā€œSo you think that just because I didnā€™t agree with you and with the others my opinion doesnā€™t matter? Oh wait I forgot you are my boss and I should do as you please huh? Well if you are wrong then you are Dr. Ramsey so I wonā€™t shut up my mouth when thereā€™s injustice here!ā€
ā€œThis is not about injustice here! It has been since in the ancient times and no one has ever stopped it!ā€ When he saw where the debate was going he decided to ease it a bit. He didnā€™t want to fight with her. ā€œLook Iā€™m worried too as much as you are but you donā€™t have to act like this.ā€
She said those words before she could stop them. She regretted so much. ā€œOh you care about me so much donā€™t you!ā€
That behaviour.
That cold demeanour.
That selfish character was back and was slapped at Ethanā€™s face.
He thought she had changed a bit.
From what he remembered from her first year her behaviour was only because of avoiding her feelings but this- was entirely something else.
Egoistic. Which he didnā€™t except that.
He clearly was disappointed given after everything theyā€™ve been through these past three years.
Something was for sure- she would never change and felt a pang on his chest that now it wasnā€™t his fault about this.
It was hers.
ā€œGet out.ā€
ā€œWhat?ā€
ā€œI said- GET OUT!ā€ His anger was raised so much that made her jolt. That authoritative voice was back again and her heartbeats accelerated. ā€œUntil you donā€™t get your shit together donā€™t even try to step in this office!ā€
She knew she had crossed her limits by her words. She had hurt him so badly that there was no excuse of making up with him so instead she walked out and slammed the door behind it.
He knew he had crossed his limits too. If he could analyse it overall she was right in a way. Leland was trying to be everywhere and meddling with his theories about how a medical team should work and how the medicine should be which was completely out of his league.
Both of them were madly in love but this time the scars of the past seemed to not leave them alone.

Hi! Iā€™m confused on how to reconcile dickā€™s origins and his loving family with the halyā€™s circus is a tool of the court of owls info. How does dickā€™s childhood not become horrifying and fake if the court of owls were using the circus the whole time? Ppl that dick knew and friends with were probably evil right? Idk... have a great day, sorry for my rant lol-confused anon
Honestly, as many times as the circus comes up in canon, its very rarely been explored in detail so it really just depends on how you play it, I think. For me, the difference is complicitness. If the Court of Owls is heavily invested in Halyā€™s Circus and manipulates where they go and when and uses it as a training camp for their future assassins in a lot of ways, that unmistakably casts a pall over Dickā€™s childhood, it lends it a certain air of grim destiny....BUT that doesnā€™t have to equate to his childhood being a LIE....not if most of the people he loves and values from it were just genuinely good people who loved him and had no idea about the darker side of their circus. I think most of Halyā€™s performers had no clue, or donā€™t have to be portrayed as having one, and thus just because they were there, doesnā€™t mean they were complicit, and if they werenā€™t complicit, thatā€™s what really matters when it comes to them.
That said, we know that numerous performers died young under mysterious circumstances, or disappeared when in their teens, and that these were the eventual Talons of the Court. BUT we also know that the Court wasnā€™t like....disappearing multiple performers at a time, and that the real secret of the Talonsā€™ large numbers is their longevity and the fact that the Court had been doing this for a LONG time. So its not like Halyā€™s performers would have all been oblivious to a lot of their number just vanishing under mysterious circumstances, its more that the scarcity of it happening means it could very easily for a lot of the performers Dick knew as a child, been like, their own personal urban legend? Like, thereā€™s an awareness that thereā€™s something spooky or creepy associated with the circus, but not what exactly it is or why its that way, and thereā€™s just enough deniability to it that for most performers, their personal reasons for staying with the circus outweighed the occasional reminder of this potentially creepy side of things, as a reason for them to leave.
I could easily see this playing into like, superstitions about Gotham in general, because performers whoā€™d been with the circus their whole life or a long time or just had a stronger awareness of the disappearances in their history couldā€™ve like, identified that these mysterious deaths or disappearances only seemed to happen when the circus went to Gotham, and like.....maybe there wasnā€™t enough info to know what it MEANT, exactly, or maybe some of them had connected some dots and had SUSPICIONS about it maybe having something to do with the creepy rhyme they heard when they were in Gotham once, about the Court of Owls, but without being sure who was safe to talk about this with, nobody ever really explored that idea in depth.....like, its one of those things where I feel like it couldā€™ve been that the disappearances and ideas people had about what was behind them and all that, it was a Big Unsaid. Something that was present and there throughout the atmosphere of Halyā€™s at times, especially for older members of the troupes, but nobody really ever talked about it because just because they knew something was going on there doesnā€™t mean they knew what to SAY about it, or to whom....and these are the kinds of undercurrents that as a kid, Dick would likely have been oblivious to....or only aware of in hindsight.Ā
Like, I could see him years later reflecting on how now that he thought about it, the others always got weird and nervous about shows in Gotham or even the possibility of them, and nobody seemed to like Gotham for some reason, but he never knew WHY....and then when his parents were killed, that could have very easily slotted into just like....affirming that vague idea ofĀ ā€˜only bad things happen to the circus and its members when we come to Gothamā€™ without him ever consciously feeling a need to further explore that idea or awareness around Gotham....because on a gut level, it felt like heā€™d already gotten confirmation about something that he and the rest of his circus had always known as a kind of truism, even if they didnā€™t know why, yā€™know?
The only real sticking point in all this (well actually thereā€™s two) is first of all, Haly and his family. We know they had some awareness of all this, and there was the Book of Names, and like, Haly and his grandfather knew about the Court in actuality rather than just theory, but its very doubtful that there was anything sinister to this knowledge on Halyā€™s side of things at least, and it seems pretty clear he was just a pawn operating under duress. Thatā€™s my take anyway, like, and it doesnā€™t make it OKAY for him not to have said or done more, but it makes it a tragedy rather than a betrayal, kinda? Like, he was stuck between a rock and a hard place, and though thereā€™s things he could have said or done to defy the Court and their using the circus to draw their Talons from, he was probably painfully aware that any expression of defiance was going to simply get him and his loved ones killed as an object lesson to whomever they replaced him with, without much more than a slight hiccup in their plans.
And this is where being aware of the transformative power of fanfic and using it with INTENT rather than just going with the most utilized fanon tropes, like, is your best friend. Because thanks to all the gaps and superficiality in how a lot of this was touched on and dealt with in canon....you can make whatever you want out of it, all the more definitively if you know precisely what you want TO make out of it.Ā
For instance: do you want to preserve Dickā€™s memories of Haly as a kind, grandfatherly figure in his life, someone who would never have stood idly by and allowed the Courtā€™s intended fate for him to happen? You can do that....by playing up the idea that Haly saw an opportunity come out of the tragedy of the Graysonsā€™ death, to separate Dick from the circus, and thus the Court, like lean into the idea that he was all for notable public figure Bruce Wayne taking in Dick and thus keeping him in a new, bigger kind of spotlight the shadowy Court wouldnā€™t dare try and steal him from. Unless of course, he suspected that billionaire and old money Gothammite Bruce Wayne WAS a member of the Court, and thatā€™s why he wanted to take Dick in, in the first place. Crap. Just thought of that, thatā€™s an obstacle.
UNLESS unless! You have Haly trying all the more to get Dick to stay with them, at least until theyā€™re out of Gotham again and he can end up in the CPS system of some other NON Gotham city, once Bruce does express an interest in taking in Dick, BECAUSE he thinks Bruce is a member of the Court, and so heā€™s so clearly afraid of Bruce for some reason that Bruce simply canā€™t reconcile with his own public image and canā€™t simply be simple fear of the upper class when Halyā€™s Circus is used to catering to such crowds and Halyā€™s always displayed an ability to navigate the currents of such shark-infested waters as the Circusā€™s ringmaster....no, this has to be something other than just public perceptions, Halyā€™s fear of Bruce and his intentions for Dick feels PERSONAL.Ā
Which perhaps makes Bruce come to Haly then as Batman, reassure him from that angle....which could in turn make Haly open up to him then and there about the Court and their obsession with the Gray Son, when heā€™s aware then that public figure Bruce Wayne isnā€™t a member of the Court and CAN offer the somewhat dubious (and double-edged) protection of that spotlight, AND at the same time, that heā€™s not some dumbass, but the Batman, with superhero connections and resources all his own that he can use to hunt the Court from the shadows and protect Dick that way too.
Thus giving Bruce forewarning about the threat of the Court (and hopefully Dick too, as I donā€™t think with this kind of storyline, keeping him in the dark his ENTIRE childhood would be fair or a good idea, even if it is understandable, like, thereā€™s different ways to play this, but that seems doomed to backfire if thatā€™s the road taken there).
Another thought about Robin and his bright colors and impossible-to-deny presence here though, actually.....what if part of why Bruce allowed Dick to be Robin at all was because it enabled him to kinda....extend the public spotlight Dick was in, as a barrier against the Court taking him....to more than just their civilian personas? Like, if Bruce KNOWS that Dick never had even the possibility of a normal life because even without him coming into his life, the Court was always going to be there, waiting for an opportunity to claim him.....then training him as Robin, giving him field experience as Robin, suddenly takes on a WHOLE different perspective as its Bruce actively giving him the tools to protect himself from an extremely SPECIFIC threat and fate....one that could strike at any time, one that wasnā€™t guaranteed to wait until Dick was an adult to try and take him so Bruce felt he couldnā€™t afford to wait until he was older to try and prepare him to be able to fight back, if they ever did come for him. Plus, as Robin, he was a BRIGHT figure in ways that are completely contrary to Bruceā€™s early start as an urban legend himself, something that could just as easily not exist as exist as rumored. From the moment Robin was a confirmed quantity, however, people were going to notice when and if he disappeared.....thus making it all the more impossible for the Court to quietly disappear Dick Grayson or Robin, without the rest of the hero community noticing too.
Of course, then you have to reconcile this with Bruce firing Dick as Robin....but thereā€™s ways to do that too. *Shrugs* Just musing as I go here, tbh.
Or you can take the road Iā€™ve dabbled with few times, the idea that a big part of why Dick ended up in juvie in that origin, could fanfic-wise be explained by connecting that backstory to the New 52 presence of the Court, and mashing them together so that the Court actually pulled strings after the Graysonsā€™ death to get their Gray Son placed there untilĀ ā€˜they were ready for himā€™ and in the process wean him away from the morals his parents instilled in him and hone his willingness to fight and even potentially kill, by placing him in a pressure-cooker of an environment aimed at making him into a weapon. But the point here, is this is another more concrete way that Bruce could have even unknowingly thrown a wrench into their plans, by encountering him when he escaped from juvie (something the Court might not have been expecting, having underestimated him) and this leading to him taking Dick in himself, no longer trusting the city or the system to do the job theyā€™d promised to do when they claimed to be taking Dick away from the circus for his own good.Ā
Here, even without knowing about the Court or its plans, you can lean into the idea that Bruce steered Dick away from their intentions for him simply by being a source and a reminder of kindness and kind people. Kinda play up the theme that rather than grow up to be their greatest asset, Dick grew up to be their greatest enemy instead, all due to the introduction of the one variable the Court hadnā€™t accounted for when trying to forge their ideal weapon....the kindness of a stranger.
My point with both these directions is.....even with the Court having a hand in Halyā€™s Circus and thus Dickā€™s childhood, that doesnā€™t HAVE to make Dickā€™s childhood, or his destiny, inherently a tragedy, because despite all the Talon fics out there, the fact remains that in canon, in the main timeline....Dickā€™s never actually ever been a Talon....he exists, much like heā€™s always aimed to exist....as a defiance of expectations, of determinism, of a fated destiny. And thus he embodies something heā€™s embraced over and over again, the idea that only he truly gets to decide who and what he is.....and by utilizing one of the above ideas in his backstory, you can put Haly or Bruce or both firmly on HIS side, and give them active roles in giving him the tools he needs to subvert the Courtā€™s destiny for himself, and choose his own path.
So, ultimately IMO, the Courtā€™s connection to Dickā€™s past really is just one more way in which his story can be what its always been....that of retaining his core self even in the face of tragedies, making a triumph out of resisting the world (or specific people in it)ā€™s attempts to make him other than a hero.
(The other sticking point I mentioned, aside from Haly, is one Iā€™ve never really been able to reconcile myself, because it relies so much on the ages DC tried to force down our throat with the New 52, and to which I say NAY, NAY DC, DICK GRAYSON WAS NOT SIXTEEN WHEN HE MET BRUCE WAYNE, THIS IS NOT A JOEL SCHUMACHER PRODUCTION AND YOU DONā€™T HAVE THAT WACKY AND INEXPLICABLE CHARM.
And thatā€™s the presence of other acrobats who arenā€™t part of the Flying Grayson family act, like Raya and Raymond, who we ultimately see as being very aware of the Court of Owls by the time Dick becomes aware of them. And like. Thereā€™s a lot going on there, and I donā€™t entirely know how to make it work but largely because Iā€™ve never been all that inclined or inspired to try, so I mostly just let that be, and lift elements of the Court of Owls and transplant them into and over pre-Flashpoint continuity, which I prefer overall anyway).

Words : +3400
--------------------------------
Cuba.....the country that I never wanted to come back after all these times and by all the odds, the man who we are going to neutralize named Vargas has to be there in Havana. He could have been in South America, in Asia or even back in the USSR but why it has to be exactly Cuba ? It was certainly going to be bad for me to put my feets back on the Cuban soil but I have no choice but to go there with Garrett : Greta is keeping the prisoner we got from the Perseus hideout in control while Park need to rest for her arm.....it was just me & Garrett.
We both prepared our bags quickly and then, we were on our way to the Tempelhof Airport as our plane, according to Garrett was there for us. It was weird for me to say that Park wasn't there with us in the mission and it was like my first days when I woke up : feeling kind of lost, trying to find her back again and frankly, I was resisting the urge to go back to the safehouse and stay with here but I couldn't do that....there were no step back for me and I wouldn't do that to Garrett, leaving him alone like that.
The flight was going to last at least 13 hours for us to arrive in Havana and since we are leaving West-Berlin at 5 PM and thanks to the timezones, we will arrive at our destination only after midnight with just one stop at Lisbon like we did to go to the New Orleans almost 2 weeks ago. With Garrett, I talked a little during the first hours until we arrived at our first and only stop. As the plane was getting refueled, we were awaiting inside the plane.
"Yirina, can I....ask you something ?" Garrett called me out as I was looking outside through the porthole to see the maintenance crew, refuelling the plane.
"Yes." I said, looking back at him, he was just sit in front of me, I was almost scared by him.
"Why are you stressed to go to Cuba ?" He asked me and I was a little troubled to talk about it.
"I...I can't tell you, Garrett." I replied, almost losing my words in the process. "There's things I can't talk about." I added, redressing myself in my seat.
"Listen, I know but there's things that I know about you." He affirmed, making me look at him with narrowed. "Things that Park told me about."
"Really ?" I breathed
"I know what happened to you with the CIA." He said, sure of him as I was looking at him almost chilling from the inside. "She told me a lot about what she did....she's still feeling guilty about it, you know." I was speechless, looking pale to him as I realize that he was well aware of my real state since a long time.
"It is something I don't want to talk about, Garrett." I admitted, it's still hard for me to mention it and talking about it to someone other than Park....it's really hard. "Park, I'm not blaming her at all, it's just the CIA that I'm blaming for it."
"She talk very nicely about you, each day." He told me with an grin. "You got very lucky to find yourself with her." At this moment, the plane started to move again, meaning that we will have to face the longest part of the flight to get to Havana.
"Thanks...thank you." I put my arms on the armrest as the plane was taking off the airport, putting us up in the skies again.
"Since you came back, you made Park smile again for real." He confessed to me, making me grin a little from it. "You did really had an impact on her that even Greta wasn't able to have."
"About Greta, how is she seeing it ?" I asked as for now, Greta was getting aware that me & Park was an thing and she maybe talk with it to him.
"To say, she was a little disturbed but she's getting over it." He replied, looking away through his porthole. "I'm sure that she will fully understand your relation with Park." He looked back at me. "You know, when Park did her coming out to me, I was impressed by it."
"When did she do it ?" I questioned him.
"She did it in 1976 after an mission in Poland and of course, she wanted to keep it a secret because of the ban in the MI6." He answered, looking at me with an great look. "Only me, you & Greta knows about it."
"Well, some people in the CIA know too now." I whispered, rolling my eyes as he was making wide eyes. "Don't worry, there are good peoples....except the one who the CIA is trying to save."
"Shit, Adler knows about it ?" He spoke to himself before sniffing away as I nodded to him. "That guy is really an pain in the ass."
"I'm seconding that by a lot." I joked before I laughed about it before I breath again, wanting to change the subject. "Anyway, you didn't tell me about who was Vargas precisely."
"Oh yeah." He looked at the table that was between my seat and his seat where the file about Vargas was on, the Greenlight one stayed back at the safehouse in West-Berlin. He opened up the file to make me look at it as I didn't have time to check it. "Name's Sebastian Vargas."
"Former soldier of the Colombian National Army, I see." I said, looking at Vargas records.
"He left the army to join the M-19, considering that the government was corrupt and to fight the cartel." Garrett added those intels that was not in the records "He joined Perseus in 1982, serving as an saboteur before he put himself to work with Stone."
"Guess that the MI6 is looking for him ?" I presumed and he nodded.
"At the beginning of the year, he has taken 4 british tourists hostages in Colombia and before the MI6 could do an thing, he killed them." He clenched his fists, talking about that event I wasn't aware of. "Since, the M-19 itself rejected Vargas because they didn't want to have us on their backs and after that, he stayed in Cuba."
"And now, we are going to track him down..." I cut myself as I put the records file back on the table. "Do you know why he's still in Cuba ?"
"First is to hide from the MI6's sight." Garrett started, raising his left index finger. "Second is because he will tell us who's the person helping Perseus with soviet weapons." He raised his left thumb to me
"So, we try to take Vargas alive." I said and he nodded again.
"I'm sure that the MI6 will be pleased to have his head." He affirmed before looking outside. "We know exactly where he is in Havana and thanks to that, we'll be just in Havana for an day."
"Let's hope so." I admitted, crossing my arms to look outside too....I really want to just be in Cuba for one simple day.
"Now, it's better to have some sleep." Garrett suggested as he get comfy in his seat, closing his eyes to the outside as I wasn't sure to have a sleep in here.
I was trying to not get to sleep as I wasn't feeling so tired now but the events of today even small gave me in an second an envy to get myself some rest and maybe trying to have some peace for the moment. Garrett was very quick to sleep almost 2 minutes after he closed his eyes as me, I was trying to do the same as him and it took me 20 minutes to replicate the same thing from him : closing my eyes, looking at the outside...just needing some peace.....
I was working late at my desk in the CIA safehouse, trying to find something on the Operation Red Circus leaded by Vadim Rudnik, the intels that Belikov gave to us during our mission in the Lubyanka was helping me but since it was nearly 3 AM in the night, these intels wasn't helping too much. I didn't know why I didn't try to bang my head on my desk, looking at all these papers on my desk. I really wanted to do this but I was soo tired to do a thing but also because my nose was hurting me because of Adler's punch one hour ago
It was just me working in here, the other were all sleeping in their beds and my desk was the only light in the whole place to be on. Seriously, I was wondering why Adler wanted me to still work lately and why I had to agree to his stupid orders to stay awake, giving me the impression that I'm the one working with Park & Lazar in here and just Adler watching us like chess pieces he's moving.
Suddenly, I started to hear some footsteps coming from the dorm and I stopped myself to work, wanting to know who it was.
"Bell ?" It was Lazar himself, dressed back in his normal clothes...wearing his favorite 'Burger Town' shirt. "What are you doing here ?" He asked as he moved near my desk
"Working." I replied in a very low voice, sounding just tired as hell.
"You work at 3 AM ?" He raised an eyebrow, putting his hands on my desk. "Seriously, you're telling me you're working at 3 AM ?" I nodded to him slowly.
"Adler asked me to work and I don't know why but I agreed to it." I fully responded, getting some papers back in place with my hands. "Been working since 10 PM on it." I looked away to the coffee machine direction. "Coffee helped to stay up."
"You're putting your work before your health ?" He moved to get sit on Park's chair.
"No but....there's something that Adler has on me....like he's controlling me." I suggested, making Lazar raising an eyebrow "I have....some sort of things telling me that....Adler is dangerous with me."
"We all think of it but we can't tell it loudly, Bell !" He told me with an grin, tapping on my left shoulder "Anyway, you should really get some sleep." He proposed me.
"I don't know..." I put my eyes on the papers I just put back in place. "Why are you awake too ?" I asked him back.
"Oh, couldn't sleep and also because someone was maybe using the coffee machine." He scoffed, making me laugh a little after all these times, him doing it too. "Wanted to know who was the mysterious person who was maybe already preparing us breakfast."
"Guess you got your answer now." I said with a funny tone before looking at him who was looking, curious.
"How's things with Park ?" He questioned me, his left arm on the desk, the other on his legs
"Pretty good for the moment." I started, looking at her desk that was just next to mine. "She's happy with me and I'm happy with her....if we don't count Adler stupid mind." I pointed at my nose. "He punched me after I taunted him about his life, prick wanted me to stop my relation with Park."
"At least, you proved him that you can stand against him." He crossed him arms, leaning back on Park's seat. "I wish that sometimes, I can punch Adler in his teeth....just for once."
"Maybe you will have a chance someday." I claimed before he decided to go up from his seat.
"You're sure that you don't want to go to sleep ?" He asked and I shook my head.
"No, I will be fine." I replied before....suddenly, everything goes to black all around me, I wasn't passing out but everything around me except Lazar was disappearing and I stood up by shock, looking at my hands, trembling.
"Yirina ?" It was Lazar's voice and I looked at him, now wearing his combat suit....the same one from Cuba. "Yirina, promise me." He added, saying my real name.
"Laz' ?" It wasn't me as Bell anymore....something was very wrong in here, I wasn't in that memory anymore before I looked at Lazar with shock and stress in me.....
"Do it for me....take care of Park !"
I immediately woke up with an start inside the plane, sweating by a lot by the memory I just got back....focused on a talk I had with Lazar. I was so troubled, trembling because of it. Since we had to go to Cuba, it's maybe sure that I was going to freak out. When I woke up, Garrett was sleeping and it was 11:30 PM meaning that we will arrive in Havana in 30 minutes. I decided to go directly in the plane private bathroom to get some water on my face to calm myself down.
I looked myself in the mirror, thinking about Lazar....about what happened to Cuba, the disaster the CIA is calling an operation.....and also about me : How I'm still alive after what happened to me ? I looked at my head, at my scar, wondering about how Adler even if he's an monster wasn't able to see that he missed his shot against me on that cliff. Once I was finished after 10 minutes in the bathroom, I returned to my seat, awakening Garrett, alerting him of our soon-to-be arrival.
We arrived in Havana at exactly midnight in an MI6 clandestine runway near the city and soon that I got my feet on the ground that I was feeling weird in me....Cuba, here I was again ! I couldn't remember what happened 3 years ago when we first arrived in Cuba and honestly, I think it was better to think of something else instead of that. With Garrett, we took a car that was given to us and we were on our way to the temporary safehouse we will have : a small apartment in the Barrio Chino district of the city.
Honestly, even if I was no tired anymore and when we arrived in the apartment, I told directly Garrett that I needed more sleep before going to work and he understand, saying that we could only start work in the day. So, I immediatly go into the bed I first see and I was back to sleep again. I woke up later the next day, the May 6th at almost noon due to some Cuban traditional music from an radio in the apartment.
"How was the second round of sleeping ?" Garrett asked me as I stepped out from the bedroom, walking to the table where there were something to eat.
"Better than the first one." I replied, sitting down on a chair. This second round, like he said, wasn't so troubling for me and I didn't have anything that woke me up again. It was still strange to have sleep well in Cuba. "Anything new ?" I questioned him as he didn't go to sleep for the second time.
"I made some calls : we got to meet an 'concerned citizen' at the beginning of the night in a bar called 'Monserrate Bar'" He responded, looking outside the apartment at the streets as the table was just next to an window, I started eating something at the same time. "Since we know that Vargas is in an apartment located just at one street from the bar, it will be easy for us."
"So, it's just going to be us ?" He nodded to me
"The man that will help us will give some means to get to Vargas, don't worry. He's an long time friend of mine." He affirmed to me with an smile.
"You really had a lot of contacts like Park said." I scoffed, making him laugh
"Oh, I know a lot of people around the world." He said with an funny tone, looking at me with wide eyes. "Can say that I'm the friendly MI6 agent know by a lot."
"Helping us by an lot." I admitted before I looked at the satellite phone on the table. "Uhm...Park told me to call her, can I ?"
"Of course, just finish to eat and then, you can call her." He smiled at me, putting the phone just next to me.
I finished to eat my breakfast and then, once I was done, I took the phone and I decided to go back into my private room, sitting in the bed before I started to compose the number of Park's satellite phone slowly because I didn't want to make an mistake in it. I breathed as I composed the very last number before I put the phone near my right ear, awaiting for her to respond to me.
"Helen Park !" I heard her voice through the phone and it relieved me in the inside, pleased to hear her voice, she was very fast to respond.
"It's me." I told her in a low voice.
"Oh, Yiri !" She exclaimed, sounding happy too. "It's so good to hear your voice."
"Can say the same by an lot, Park." I said, looking throught the window of my room. "We arrived in Cuba hours ago but I fell asleep again, I'm sorry for the late."
"It's okay, you called me right ?" She affirmed to me, making me smile. "Which time is it in Havana ?"
"It's noon and it's very sunny." I replied, sounding good, changing from the rainy weather from Berlin time to time. "And you ?"
"Almost time to eat diner and in here...it's mixed between sunny and raining." She scoffed at the end, making me laugh. "So...uhm....how do you feel ?" She asked me, worried
"Well, it's strange to be back here." I responded, taking a sad tone in me. "I...I had an memory with Lazar and it's very troubling." I added, still sad.
"Can...can you explain it to me ?" She questioned me, hearing her getting redressed somewhere.
"It was during an night in the safehouse where he found me at my desk working late at 3 AM but then....something strange happened." I started, my voice almost cracking from telling it. "I was like in a black void with Lazar....talking to me with my real name and he asked me something."
"What did Lazar asked ?" She was sounding worried and curious.
"He asked me to take care of you." I replied in a low voice, moving to face the ceilling. "It's what he asked me to do and that's I want to do : taking care of you." I added, mixed between sadness and sure of my words. "Park, I want to stay with you, to be with you."
"I know, me too." She affirmed. "I'm so sorry that I wasn't able to come with you." Her voice was also cracking about it. "I know that you're in good hands with Garrett."
"Yes, I am." I breathed, looking at the closed door of my room. "Park, I will come back very soon to you."
"Yiri, you will, don't worry !" She admitted before I could hear her sniff. "I will never let you down, be sure of it."
"Thanks Park." I whispered, feeling a tear on my face that I cleaned with my free hand. "We will maybe come back for tomorrow....back to you."
"It's good to hear." She said with an better voice. "Everything will be fine, Yirina !"
"I know, I will do my best for you."
"Listen, I have to go eat and then have some rest for my arm and if you're fast enough, you can get back to me when I woke up next morning, you will be my surprise." She informed, meaning that it was the end of the call, I wanted to last more longer but work needs to be done and I prefer to let her rest.
"I will try my best, Park." I told her, redressing myself to get back on sitting on the bed's edge. "Love you 3000." I added.
"Love you 3000 too, Yiri. Come back quick." She exclaimed before the line went shut, leaving me just alone in my room.
I was so much happy to have hear her voice but sad because she wasn't there with me, probably in our bed in the safehouse at West-Berlin. Once the call was finished, I stayed on the bed, holding the phone in my hands, feeling some tears on my face while smiling with joice.....
I will take care of you for the rest of my life, Park !

Quote
The show currently on had a bunch of stuffed shirts sitting at a round table. ["...my esteemed colleague, Professor Newell, gives too much credence to the ex-Avengers' education. I simply don't believe they all read and fully comprehended the document they were rejecting. Steve Rogers had a high school diploma and one year of art college."] Steve curled his lip. ["That doesn't mean he's illiterate," Newell, a brown-haired man with glasses, said. The other man, his tight coils of hair salt and pepper gray, raised an eyebrow. "As a lawyer, I'd be the first to say legal documents are needlessly complex, but no lay person can just sit down and read a 1000-page legal agreement and absorb the intricacies with nothing more than a high school education from the 1940s. Not without help." Newell ceded the point with a nod. "And Wanda Maximoff is a street orphan and doesn't even have that. Ditto Clint Barton, who grew up in a traveling circus. The Ant Man has an engineering degree, which makes me think he would have ample education to comprehend the Accords, but he had little time to do it inā€”only the flight to Germany, and investigators say he was likely shrunk and in Clint Barton's pocket, as there's no evidence of him on the passenger list, but he suddenly appeared at the Leipzig/Halle airport. It's questionable he bothered to shrink the Accords with him or bring the necessary resources to decipher all the legalese."] Scott got up and left the room. Wanda curled up and hugged her knees to her chest. Steve remembered the hasty conversation he'd had with Scott before the battle. Scott had no idea about the Accords back then. He thought they were there to fight over killer assassins. Steve rubbed his forehead. ["That leaves only Sergeant Sam Wilson, a man well-educated by the armed forces. I wondered what made him reject a document that his own government and one hundred and sixteen other countries supported, and then I read up on Lieutenant General Ross' record. Any man who has served in the military and heard of Ross' abuse of his own forces and how he used his own daughter as bait in pursuit of The Hulk would have zero respect for the retired general and Secretary of State. Ross was spearheading the US support of the Accords. Whether or not this influenced Sergeant Wilson's decision to reject them, I cannot say."] "This is bullshit," Clint said, obviously fuming. "I didn't need some stupid diploma to tell me the Accords are a shitty idea." ["You haven't said anything about the Black Widow," the moderator said, shifting his papers around on the big desk. "Ms. Romanov is an interesting case. Raised and educated by the top-secret Soviet training program called the Red Room, the Black Widow supported the Accords at first. She appeared to recognize their necessity, but then during the fight at the airport seemed to run into an issue of allegiance in fighting her friends. Understandable, I think. It's why the Avengers should never have been sent to contain the renegades. But who else could battle that sort of might? "In any event, it appears to be no coincidence that the Avengers who sided with the Accords all have master's degrees or higher." "Or much higher," the mediator said, abandoning neutrality. "Lieutenant Colonel Rhodes as a master's in engineering as well as officer's training, Stark has multiple doctorates, and the Vision is said to have access to the sum of all human knowledge. The King of Wakanda obviously has the finest political education as a leader of his nation, and I understand he is also an engineer." "Nothing is known about the Spider-Man," Newell said. "No, that's true. He'll have to remain an enigma." "But it's your contention that education had something to do with renegades choosing not to support the Accords," the mediator said. "I think it's obvious."] *** ["Hello, all. Thank you for time. "As Mr. Sjƶberg mentioned, I recently came into some information regarding The Winter Soldier that I felt was of international importance, especially since he had the protection of some very powerful people. The ICC is just the place to turn when the State is unable or unwilling to carry out an investigation and prosecute the perpetrators."] Steve drew in a shocked breath. ["I found this information at a Hydra bunker in Siberia, where Rogers, Barnes and I had an altercation about whether suppressing this information was cool or not." Stark gave an acid grin. "In the course of this disagreement, Rogers disabled my suit and left me in the Hydra bunker to freeze, unable to radio a rescue team."] Sam sank his head into his hands with a curse. ["However, Rogers' 'leave our teammates behind' policy turned out to be useful, because while searching for a way to communicate with my rescue team, I discovered a trove of records spanning back decades on the Hydra supersoldier program. I looked through all of it, hoping to save it and get retrieved before Hydra returned. "What I discovered was more than enough: movies, photos, and detailed plans to assassinate political heads of state, industrial leaders, diplomats, prominent artists, radical leaders and activists, all of whom were murdered by The Winter Soldier. Included in these documents were the names of the ones who ordered the kills, the criminals behind the deeds. For the last three weeks, with the assistance of the Joint Terrorism Task Force, that's what we've been up toā€”rounding up the bad guys with a vengeance." The murmurs grew into a roar of approval. "Most of the Hydra operatives still living have been arrested for their complicity in murdering countless important figures who stood against Hydra's core principles of racism and fascism. Despite the unnecessary delay introduced by Rogers, who could have put us onto Barnes and thus the location of the bunker that much sooner, the loved ones and family members of the deceased will at long last know, and hopefully find peace in knowing, just what happened to their loved ones, and why."] Tony's voice trembled on the last part, and Steve felt a pit growing in his stomach that he couldn't shake off. ["My only regret is whom I have to thank for this. The man behind the Vienna bombing was the one who revealed the truth to me by showing me the video of my parents being murdered by The Winter Soldier. The man who told me the truth is a criminal. But then, the man who kept the truth from us all is a criminal as well. "Thank you all for listening. There will be no questions."] *** Tony lifted his hand and smacked away the letter he was writing as Rhodey walked in. "Sour patch! Look at you. How're the legs feeling?" "Better now that I tweaked the timing on the left one. Feels more natural now. But, Tony..." "Awesome. You should totally patent that port thing. That was really good work." Tony pulled up the schematics of Rhodey's braces to take a look at the timing adjustment port Rhodey had added. "I don't have time forā€”that's not why I came in here, Tones. Vision got a callā€”" "Time, shmime. I'll have Friday draft up the diagrams and application for you." "It would be my pleasure, Colonel Rhodes." "Yes, fine. Thanks, Fri. Tones, listen. Something's happened with the renegades." Tony stopped fiddling and gave Rhodey his full attention. "Tell me." "It's weird as hell." Rhodey dropped onto a lab stool and rolled over to join him. "Wanda contacted Vision to tell him she delivered Rogers to the US Embassy in Nairobi. I checked, and sure enough, according to embassy officials, she made him walk in like a zombie, then directed him to 'Wait here until Tony Stark comes to arrest you.'"
Into the Weeds byĀ truet
This is literally the best Team Iron Man fic I read till now, and it includes all the things I missed from the other ones: acknowledgment of Rhodeyā€™s smarts, acknowledgment of the education Rogues had, acknowledgment that Wanda may actually get angry at Steve when she learns what he did and what it means to her, acknowledgment that Hydra agents who ordered the murders should be arrested, acknowledgment of Tony relying on other people to actually accomplish or polish the things he engages with (JCCT, braces).
The only thing it doesnā€™t have is acknowledgment that Shuri doesnā€™t need BARF to help Barnes, but itā€™s only because the fact that the story never reaches that point, but damn, so many Team Iron Man fics mistreats other charas and I know it is not malicious, that it is because the authors love Tony and want him to fix the issues himself, but Tony isnā€™t omnipotent god of science and I would like people to get that Shuri is as mart as he is and can definitely handle helping Barnes and making his arm without Tonyā€™s help, as much as Rhodey can fix his braces and doesnā€™t need Tony to constantly do it for him, because he has proper education to handle that, and also he is the user, so he knows best what is wrong and what is right and what works.
I also tend to like the stories which donā€™t demonize Wanda more than the ones which do, because I think she was radicalized, but not evil and those stories, where she is an evil Hydra agent or actually went mad long ago and nobody noticed, as much as interesting and enjoyable donā€™t really get what it means to be radicalized and then trying to de-radicalize and also heavily fall into the trap of demonizing a woman in the same way misogynist media creators usually do and the only thing I can blame is the fact that we all are raised in the society which hates women and even if we donā€™t actively believe in it some of it stays with us, in our subconscious and affects what we write and how. Everybody is capable of evil as long as they believe something very much and Wanda is more prone to that due to her background. Not to mention that those stories also usually infantilize her and I like to see her actually being treated like an adult she always was, who understands the consequences of Steveā€™s action for her and who would do something, albeit something stupid mind you, to mitigate her case, because she is an adult, and she like any other adult person would want to help her case somehow.
Oh, and author also knows how the wholeĀ ā€œwho arrests whoā€ system works, so their stories actually show that nobody in the MCU creator board of creators, including the Russos, does a goddamn research about Europe. Most people donā€™t have this knowledge, so movies donā€™t seem off to them, but to people who do have this knowledge movies are weird and illogical.

Points about U.S. Election
(As I was typing this, Biden has taken the lead in GA but itā€™s still not called yet. Trump will undoubtedly demand a recount so if itā€™s really close a recount could flip it back for Trump.)
Just a little update from my previous post on the election results, although no one cares about my opinion. Rest assured, this is purely for my own sanity.
First thoughts:
1. Arizona being wishy washy throws a real monkey wrench in the wheels of this circus train from the perspective of Bidenā€™s bid. It sounds crazy given how the Associated Press operates when it comes to elections (being very careful to call states too early) but the AP might have fucked up. Ironically, it would mean that Fox News, the only conservative leaning major network news outlet, also fucked up by calling AZ for Biden, an even more confusing fact when we consider that CNN, NBC, MSNBC, and other liberal leaning outlets have NOT called AZ for Biden. It has been amusing seeing conservatives on Twitter (particularly the trollish, nasty, insult-slinging onesā€”as opposed to normal every day conservatives) say fuck you to Fox News where Republicans have been tuning in to worship at the alter of Trump for the last four years. Politics always drives home what fickle creatures we really are. This is no offense to Republicans honestly. I have little use for broadcasters with their own shows who call themselves journalists. CNN, NBC, and MSNBC are in the tank for Democrats and Fox News is Trumpland. Fox News used to be more moderate when Bush was president but thatā€™s been a lifetime ago. Now politics are even more idealogical than they were before, and the Republican voters are almost embracing Trump now more than they are embracing conservative values. Or at least thatā€™s what I see in my corner of the deep red South, aka Tennessee. I digress. Point is, true journalists report the facts with no outward bias. These people are political commentators. I have a journalism degree. I wrote for my school paper and helped run it. I covered the 2016 election. Iā€™ve met real journalists at AP and newspapers. Those people are not it.
2. In other news, Nevada may not even matter now if Biden can flip Georgia and Pennsylvania (which is happening in GA and may soon happen in PA if Biden can keep the upward momentum). That would make my points in the previous post almost irrelevant now. It goes to show how unpredictable this election has been, more so than expected. If Biden flips GA for good, Trump will have to win every other state (Alaska, North Carolina, Nevada, and Pennsylvania) AND flip Arizona back to gain just 269 electoral votes. If he fails to flip AZ or if he flips AZ and then loses just one other state itā€™s game over. If Biden wins GA and AZ still flips for TrumpĀ  because it was called too early, then his 253 electoral votes (sans the 11 that AZ gives him) will turn into 269. He will still have to win one more state to gain 270. If Biden loses AZ and then doesnā€™t win any other state outside of GA he has 269 votes, and if Trump wins all the other states (PA, NC, NV, AL, AZ) he has 269 votes. If that scenario happens, neither men will get the needed 270 votes and we are royally fucked. If you think Trump demanding a recount in Wisconsin with a 20k gap (SAME AS HIS OWN GAP IN 2016, TALK ABOUT HYPOCRISY, NOT TO MENTION 2016 ALSO SAW A 10K GAP IN MICHIGAN) is bad, and if you think itā€™s really bad that we donā€™t have a President-elect at almost 3 days post election, imagine the horror of a nationwide recount or worse.
3. No one has any fucks to give about Alaska and North Carolina, still.Ā
4. I really didnā€™t want to spend energy talking about Trump but I just find it so tragic that he wants the votes to continue to be counted in Arizona where the mail-ins are now turning it around in his favor, meanwhile in Pennsylvania and Georgia he tossed out lawsuits to stop the counting because thereā€™s all this corruption and voter fraud because his lead is slipping due to the mail-ins and absentees. Oh, and he needed to move his people just a few feet closer to observe the ballots being counted, although if theyā€™re close enough to read the language of the ballots then that constitutes an invasion of privacy. But everything is gravy in Arizona. #allvotesmatter. No disrespect to BLM, full stop. I find irony in comparing that phrase to this voting situation because Trump certainly wants conservative votes in Arizona to matter because it means something to him. Whereas, votes incoming from Fulton County in GA (Atlanta) and from Philadelphia, PA, and Detroit, MIā€”all heavily Black-populated citiesā€”are being scrutinized and declared criminal. I find it tragically ironic, so I use that comparison here and elsewhere. Iā€™m not making light of the movement by doing so (just to be clear).
Now, a break down of this shitshow:
What did we expect to happen?
Both camps thought they could win by a landslide.
Both camps have had their egos bruised.
We expected Trump to make accusations if he didnā€™t perform well or if he lost.
Trump already set the precedent for this behavior in 2016 when he complained that a loss then would be because the vote was rigged. Turns out, it wasnā€™t. And his paper thin margins were totally fine and not the cause of voter fraud and fishiness and he didnā€™t steal the election.
We did not expect him to go quietly into that night. The exact opposite of what happened in 2016 is happening now and Trumpā€™s hypocrisy and immaturity is showing full force. Even some of his supporters are saying heā€™s whack. Thatā€™s bad, but then again, many Republicans have had concerns over his Tweets and rhetoric for the last four years and have done nothing about it. Consequently, heā€™s lost a lot of former supporters and I donā€™t even know what his cabinet looks like now. I digress.
Everyone expected Biden to carry most of the mail-in and absentee ballots and for Trump to carry most of the in-person votes.
That is exactly what has happened in pretty much all the swing states save for AZ.
Why is that?
Trump encouraged his followers to vote in-person during early voting periods and to turn out big on election day and specifically to not mail their ballots in or use absentee ballots. Meanwhile, Biden encouraged people to mail in their ballots to stay safe.
We always have some mail-ins and some absentees each election cycle but because of COVID this 2020 election means that we have had millions of these types of ballots this year, which are always more time consuming to process and count.Ā
In Michigan alone, 2/3 of the state cast mail-in or absentee ballots. Michigan was one of the states like Wisconsin where Trumpā€™s early lead was dashed once the in-person ballots were finished being tallied. Unlike in Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania, Michigan has ended up with a gap of nearly 150k votes for Biden and doesnā€™t yet appear to be subject to a recount. Meanwhile, Wisconsin went to Biden with a 20k gap but will seemingly be subjected to a recount. The former governor of Wisconsin (who is in the tank for Trump) even spoke out initially and said that unless they can uncover a severe degree of voter fraud or mishandling of ballots (transposed numbers, etc) then 20k is a lot to overcome.
What has happened? The Red Mirage and the Blue Shift.
Generally, in-person votes are the easiest and quickest to tabulate. Mail-in ballots and absentee ballots take longer because they take longer to be processed. Then there are provisional ballots, which generally take the longest because these are votes from people who might actually be ineligible to vote (possibly because of residency status or criminal history; for example, if the latter then their voting rights may have been temporarily suspended).
Key swing states like Florida, Texas, and maybe Ohio (but specifically FL and TX) were allowed to start counting their mail-in and absentee ballots early.
FL and TX saw Biden having an early lead before ultimately Trump gained the lead and won as soon as the in-person ballots started being counted. So, mail-ins and absentee ballots tallied first, in-person ballots tallied second in these states. A Blue Mirage, and then a Red Shift.
However, news commentators have long been discussing the following scenario: the Red Mirage, aka, the tallied in-person votes overwhelmingly skewing Republican being counted first and making states appear to be in Trumpā€™s favor when in actuality Biden would win them in the end once mail-ins and absentees were counted last, causing the Blue Shift (aka the current shift we are seeing now in several swing states, but also harkening back to the 2016 election when Trump caused what was dubbed a ā€œRed Waveā€ when he swept almost all of the swing states. Aka, now a Blue Shift nationwide).
Why does all this matter to the accusations of voter fraud?
Prior to election day, the GOP (conservatives/Republicans) blocked certain key swing states from being able to count mail-ins and absentees early on. That means that all the ballots that were received in certain states during early voting periods and right up to election day (November 3rd) were unable to be counted until the day of the election.
This block happened in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. I donā€™t know about Georgia, I donā€™t think this happened with GA but maybe.
So, unlike FL and TX, which leaned for Biden early on and then shifted, the opposite is happening in PA and GA, and we have seen Biden take MI and WI both.
Arizona is an anomaly because although Biden was expected to sweep a majority of the mail-in and absentee ballots, and has to a large degree nationwide, in Arizona it has been Trump who has taken a larger % of those ballots. Arizona is kind of a coin toss because Trump has a lot of supporters there, and it goes to Republicans most of the time. So Bidenā€™s lead (and possible win) is surprising, but Trump is closing the gap slowly.
What are some things that people are forgetting?
One critical thing is that the USPS (U.S. Postal Service) fucking sucks.
It was reported either on election day or the next morning that the USPS misplaced 300k ballots. They were given more time by a judge to sweep their facilities to find these ballots (how tf do you lose 300k ballots in the first place).
The USPS has been noncompliant when it comes to this and other issues, causing several setbacks and problems.
Many ballots were delivered late. Republicans said that was fraud. They wanted to stop the counting of these ballots in some places. But as long as the ballots were mailed (aka postmarked) by election day then they are still valid, legal ballots. The USPS not delivering them on time is a separate issue.
Some of those ballots are for Trump and other candidates. Not all are for Biden. So heā€™d be costing himself votes too, which is counterintuitive.
Now, Trump has changed his narrative to ā€˜we want all legal ballots to be countedā€™. So I guess that means heā€™s cool now with the ballots being counted in AZ days after the election, just as long as they give him a change to win back the state.
Why are Trumpā€™s accusations ā€œdangerous,ā€ hypocritical, and insulting?
Trump can turn a blind eye to his Hail Mary pass in Arizona and possibly Nevada this year (which he lost in 2016), and he can embrace the fact that he swept the election in 2016, won most of the swing states, many of which were expected to vote Democrat, and he can gloss over his paper-thin margins in 2016, which are eerily similar to this margins that Biden is now securing.
He can do all this because he won in 2016, and because he could win AZ and NV. But, he doesnā€™t like that heā€™s losing his lead in PA, and that he lost MI, WI, and currently the lead in GA. And of course it has to mean there was fraud and corruption if heā€™s losing right, because thereā€™s no way he could lose in a fair election right? Because heā€™s so well-liked, right?
And Iā€™m sure someone will point out that Democrats complained that the 2016 election wasnā€™t fair and that the result was influenced by the Russians and etc. etc. So Democrats are now hypocrites for calling Trump out on his bullshit statements with no evidence.
I agree that the ā€œTrump didnā€™t win a fair raceā€ argument is stupid, and that has been no more evident than it is right now obviously seeing that his popularity was no fluke. Biden is close to winning the race, but by a small margin. The country is extremely divided, and I donā€™t see that changing any time soon.
However, Trump is not really levying any specific accusations against Biden that I can see. What Iā€™m hearing is Trump making vague accusations against the states, the election commissions, the polling offices, the people counting, and everyone that is specifically responsible for handling and counting the votes.
What is something that no one talking about, something that is incredibly hypocritical of Trump and Republicans to not point out in light of their accusations?
Alaska and North Carolina.
Why is neither Trump nor any conservative not pointing out how Alaska and North Carolina havenā€™t finished counting, or how NC has stopped counting and updating their votes for a whole day now? Why is no one saying anything about Alaska only having 50% of their votes reported 3 days after the polls opened? Where is the rage and conspiracy theories about those states and their stalled counting? Why arenā€™t they complaining about possible voter fraud in those states and worried something fishy is going on? Where are the lawsuits in Anchorage and Raleigh?
Oh, is it because everyone (including Democrats) knows Trump is going to win those states? Do we need an #allstatesmatter movement or something to get them to notice that we still donā€™t have any updates from them? (No offense to BLM, full stop.)
They donā€™t care about the issues in NC and AL. They only care about slow counting and fraud accusations in the states where their standing is subject to change. Meaning AKA, if the vote ends in their favor by a narrow margin of letā€™s say 1,000 votes then theyā€™ll praise it as a win but if they lose the state by 20,000 votes like they did in.. oh, say Wisconsin this year, then theyā€™ll claim voter fraud and demand a recount. Also like they have done in, you guessed it, Wisconsin. So, itā€™s OK if they eek out a win of 20k in Wisconsin back in 2016, and itā€™s OK if they eek out wins in Arizona and Nevada after Bidenā€™s current lead, thatā€™s not evidence of potential voter fraud, but if Biden gets a 20k win in Wisconsin this year thatā€™s suspicious.
So Trump is fine with overtaking Biden with Hail Mary passes and narrow margins. Heā€™s fine with all the mysterious votes for him that people are ā€œfinding everywhereā€ in AZ now (using his words he used to describe Bidenā€™s gains). Thereā€™s no voter fraud going on in AZ where the mail-ins and absentees are still being counted like everywhere else, despite Trump and other Republicans complaining about the fact that votes are still being counted days after the election and that these ballots are bad in general. Thereā€™s no fraud in states where Biden initially had the lead after mail-ins were counted but is now seeing saw his lead shrink as in TX and FL, or in AZ where Biden (like Trump now in PA and GA) is seeing his early lead shrink now that mail-ins and absentees are being counted. Thereā€™s no fraud in AZ because Trump is the one gaining the advantage. And thereā€™s also no fraud going on in Alaska where there is still only 50% votes reported or in North Carolina where 94% votes were reported before being delayed now a full day.
Quick question: do you see any Democrats or Liberals claiming Trumpā€™s camp or the AZ counties themselves are purposefully locking that state up in his favor with mail-ins and absentees after seeing how many votes were needed for Trump to win it once the in-person ballots were talliedā€”as Trump so eloquently accused the Democrats and polls in PA, GA, MI, and WI of doing in his press conference yesterday afternoon? Because thatā€™s basically what he said in his press conference. He made the accusation that they looked at the tally after in-person votes were counted, saw what votes were needed for Biden to win the state, and then suddenly they just started finding votes everywhere. Again, where are the watchdogs barking about people in Arizona and Nevada suddenly finding Trump votes everywhere? Suddenly, absentee and mail-in ballots areā€¦good.
A summary of the hypocrisy and bullshit.
Trump wanted people to vote in person.
Trump said there was no way he could lose the election fairly. (Arrogance and also setting the stage for his legal arguments.)
Trump said that mail-ins and absentees were not trustworthy and basically they could be used to rig the election. (Also setting the stage for legal arguments. Again, we have always used these types of ballots in elections and everyone knows they skew heavily Democratic so if Trump says theyā€™re not trustworthy all of a sudden and millions of people vote this way due to COVID, then we got ourselves a huge case of fraud.)
Trump fails to mention that a fraction of the mail-ins and absentees in every state are still for him or Independent candidates and that with each update his vote count also rises along with Bidenā€™s.
He fails to acknowledge that in AZ the mail-ins and absentees are favoring him more than Biden and that they are the reason heā€™s gaining in AZ now, and heā€™s more than willing to say that counting should continue there and to take his gains as a sign heā€™ll win the state. And it totally doesnā€™t matter that this is a direct contradiction of his statement that mail-ins and absentees are tools for Dems to ā€˜stealā€™ elections.
The early Blue Mirage in states like TX and FL, where the mail-ins and absentees were counted early and the first votes leaned Biden, were followed by in-person ballots and leaned overwhelmingly Trump.
The Blue Mirage of Arizona is seeing mail-ins and absentees turn out to be not in Bidenā€™s favor but rather in Trumpā€™s favor, the opposite of what happened in TX/FL (and whatā€™s happening in GA and PA).
All these shifts in Trumpā€™s favor in states where mail-ins and absentees have either been giving the wrong overall impression initially because they were counted first (FL/TX) before shifting drastically for Trump once in-person ballots were considered. Because those states were allowed to count these ballots early and were not made to wait until election day to start counting.
The results of mail-ins and absentees in AZ are not what people expected and have ended up shifting now at the last minute for Trump after in-persons have been counted. No one is claiming that this last minute shift is suspicious.
Democrats will still most likely lose the Senate, where they only gained 1 seat, and their only hope of possibly winning the Senate is if they A. pick up more seats organically and B. if Biden wins then Vice President-elect Harris could cast a vote for the Democrats.
Democrats have not quite swept the House either. They will probably hold onto the House but they have lost 5 (count it FIVE) seats to Republicans and the one lone Independent seat was also lost to the Republicans so at this point the conservatives have gained a total of 6 (SIX) seats. Their representatives are also leading in a lot of places so they will gain bare minimum probably 10 more seats and there are only 34 left (according to AP as of this moment).
All of the Republican Congressional candidates are performing well, whereas Trump (the incumbent Republican President) is losing, and at the very best still performing poorly. Including losing the popular vote by 4 million votes. This is stunning because normally in this situation the congressional candidates would not necessarily outperform the incumbent president of their party.
Basically, if the Democrats really wanted to rig this whole election then they have done a very shit job of it. I would like to speak to a manager.
Thatā€™s it. Iā€™m done. If you read all of this, youā€™re the OG. I hope some of what I said resonates.
