A copy of this month's Seireitei Bulletin is placed atop your desk.

You peruse it, noting some of the usuals. News, awards, special events. But it's a poem in the corner that catches your eye, one that is listed as an anonymous submission.

You smile. Folding up the paper, you greet the fellow members of your division, taking note of Captain Otoribashi with guitar in hand, strumming tunes while humming to a melody.

You approach your lieutenant, who sits before a daunting pile of paperwork—no doubt one that his Captain neglected to finish in his haste to make use of this moment of inspiration. He looks deep in thought, his brow furrowed as he peruses the words on the page.

"Lieutenant Kira." He near jumps at your use of his title, whirling around towards you. You notice he shoves a few papers to the side, as if hiding them from prying eyes. "Nice poem, by the way. In the paper."

"Oh, ah... That—that wasn’t me.”

You raise a brow.

"Really? It kind of reminds me of your style. A bit bold, if you ask me, but…”

His cheeks redden. “Right. Bold. I’m not—I’m usually not that forthright.” He shrugs noncommittally, angling his body to further cut off your view of his desk. It’s then that you catch a glimpse of a few crumpled pieces of papers scattered about.

He clears his throat. “Nonetheless I’m sure whoever it was is a fine poet.”

You hum thoughtfully. “Yeah, they are…. I'm also sure that whoever they wrote it for will find it quite romantic,” you say off-handedly.

He straightens up in his seat. "What do you—”

"Waiting for one's touch," you repeat. "I wonder why wait when the flower can just seize the moment?"

I bet the topic of gender and sexuality in this universe is super interesting. Extra-canon stuff points out that the long-lived races have an effect on what’s seen as attractive by short-lived races. The beauty standards of humans leans towards feminine androgyny, because elf gender presentation is very ambiguous. While on the other hand, half-foots on average see dwarves as the beauty standard. Oh, the in-universe discourse surrounding this would be so compelling!

I attempted to translate it with my poor jp, the help of google and by going by how this first part was translated. But there's these kanji I cant understand at all! Ryoko Kui's handwriting is my worst enemy

Some gorgeous noren curtain calligraphy today, and guess what—it's a restaurant name and a first name! The male name 海舟 is read Kaishū. Historically, it belonged to the naval officer 勝 海舟 Katsu Kaishū, who played a role in the Meiji Restoration.

海 means ocean, and it’s read うみ or カ���. Its components are 氵, the water radical, and ��, meaning every.

舟 means boat or ship. It's read ふね, ふな-, -ぶね, or シュウ.

sequel to the post about Lizel

Gil is seen as insanely, inhumanly powerful and antisocial. This is mostly true. Gil is far more powerful than he should be by normal human means, and he's not particularly interested in getting along with people.

However, he's not entirely against human contact nor ignorant to social matters. Gil will punt idiots straight out of the building as neededーand adventurers are exactly the kind of rowdy group who will be annoying and only listen to violence so can we even blame himーbut he otherwise has no problem holding a conversation. It's OTHER PEOPLE who have a hard time talking to him because of their own assumptions and his scary reputation.

The key is that he genuinely doesn't care enough about being social to rectify or even be bothered by this! As long as there are a few people who can act like civilized human beings towards himーand there are some! The landlady of the inn, the bartender, even Studd as a guild employeeーhe's good. Gil does not get lonely easily.

AND THIS REMAINS TRUE AFTER MEETING LIZEL. He's not particularly seeking out new connections, but Lizel is a sort of social connection he's never had before, and that. It's nice. He doesn't need more, but now that he's had this, going back would be difficult.

300 Light-Year Red Cloak

This is easily the coolest lizard man shooting through outer space from the heart of a sun that I've ever seen. It's also the only one I've ever seen, but that fact shouldn't diminish how sweet he looks. This dude must have some insane powers if he can exist in space like this without any form of helmet or suit. Especially considering that he's, well, a lizard, and would probably be completely incapable of any movement in ultra cold space. The source of this power is most likely that slick red cloak that pairs so well with his fancy outfit, complete with brooch and cravat. And his cane!! Such a fun design that you could also probably (extra) use as a weapon because of the spiky scale features. I also just think his poorly designed for his face sunglasses are cute and funny. The space themed background is nice too, and combined with his pose, reminds me a lot of Superman. I wonder if perhaps he wouldn't offer you a choice between some sort of red and blue objects. Hm...

I don't usually care that much about grammar, in that it's important to me only if close reading it stands to say interesting things in a story or about a character, or if it's otherwise impacting meaning in some way. Getting up in arms about typos/errors that don't impact anything, meh.

BUT. I USE THIS PHRASE OFTEN ENOUGH NOW IT'S BOTHERING ME. In fact, it bothers me so much I just found out that I finally *do* have the polls feature! (I did not, for a very very very long time, long after it seemed everyone else did.)

-- "captain's meeting" -- possessive, the meeting of the captains. The meeting belongs to the captains. Potential double meaning, in that it could be a meeting for captains, or a meeting called by a captain (within their own division)?

-- captains meeting -- plural. A meeting of multiple captains.

-- captains' meeting -- both possessive and plural. A meeting of multiple captains for multiple captains.

-- Or even Captain's meeting??? Capital C? -- a meeting called by the Captain (Commander), but shortened for ease??

MIT uses "captains meeting." For the National Senior Games, though, it's "captain's meeting." And the Mock Trial Association uses "captains' meeting." All of these are used to describe a meeting for captains, attended by multiple captains.
