Summary: You celebrate your first anniversary with your fashion designer boyfriend, so you stress over what to wear. Not that it matters, he loves you either way and his present is proof enough.

Warnings: birth names are used, teeny tiny suggestiveness because i couldn’t miss out on the reference for this cover, also cheesiness??

Having an indie fashion brand owner boyfriend means quite a few things for your closet.

Number one, your clothing style starts to resemble his because he looks way too cool, gives great advice on how to match your pieces and he keeps buying you stuff.

Number two, except for a few items that never fail to make Dongmin crunch his nose in silent judgment (come on, it’s a Christmas sweater, it’s supposed to be ugly!), most of your clothes match his. Woonhak always comments on your couple look which in turn makes your boyfriend roll his eyes but you know that secretly he likes it.

Number three, you have pretty much every collection in every color of his brand’s clothes and those become your favorites (right after stealing Dongmin’s clothes).

Number four, choosing a date outfit without his input is killing you. When you don’t know what to wear usually you just ask him or send him options and let him choose but not this time though. You know he wouldn’t care even if you put on the bright yellow sundress he once compared to a children's crayon because he thinks you’re pretty no matter what but you would like to impress him, it’s your anniversary after all.

You weigh your chances as if you were on Who wants to be a millionaire?: you can ask the friend group over chat excluding Dongmin of course or give a call to his yapper best friend in case he knows something.

“No,” Jaehyun says immediately when he takes the phone call that you decided to make.

“Hello to you too. I didn’t even say what I want,” you pout, surprised at his reaction.

“Right but Dongmin has been going on and on about you guys’ anniversary for months I swear, so of course, I know what’s today and no, I’m not telling you what he’s planning,” Jaehyun rambled but you could tell it was clearly a rehearsed speech. He had expected this. Also you couldn’t help but internally coo at the thought of your indifference-looking boyfriend speaking so much about your upcoming celebration.

“Not even a little hint? How should I dress?” You voice out your dilemma and you can clearly hear Jaehyun laugh at your pain on the other side of the line.

“Ask your fashion designer boyfriend.”

“But I want to surprise him! He told me that anything’s fine and that’s not helping. I know him, I know we aren’t going to a super fancy restaurant or for a hike but still, there are so many options!” You whine and Jaehyun huffs.

“Dress comfortably and don’t wear too much jewelry but that’s all I can say,” he says before making a weak excuse that he gotta go, so he hangs up.

You sigh but manage to narrow down the options to two vastly different styles. One is a pale pink layered dress with ribbon strips which is very unlike anything in Dongmin’s wardrobe but he likes you in pink and he has a tiny bit of an obsession with you wearing ribbons or any strings tied. His mischievous ass likes to tug on them to see how much it takes for them to come undone or to get you annoyed. The other outfit is a fake leather, side slit skort with fishnet tights and one of his designs, a black crop top with colorful lettering. All three are also definitely things your boyfriend likes on you, so you’re stuck.

It’s time to ask the audience.

The black outfit wins by one vote. You thank the guys for their input and start to get ready because you are already a bit too late compared to your estimate.

You dress up, do a smokey eye shadow makeup with cherry red lips, put on boots and pull your hair up in a high ponytail. Looking into the mirror, you know this look doesn’t seem anniversary-like at all with how dark it is but you are convinced Dongmin would like it and would even wear something similar. One last look in the mirror and one whiff of perfume applied, you are out of the door to catch the metro.

Your boyfriend is easy to spot even in the crowd at your destination station. He’s leaning against the wall, scrolling on his phone, looking as disinterested as one can be. He wears custom made sneakers, ripped jeans and a My Chemical Romance tee you bought him. You indeed match. He hasn’t noticed you yet, so you decide to sneak up on him. You’re two steps away from him when you see the corner of his mouth twitch as if he’s trying to suppress a smile but his posture doesn’t change. You know that you got caught but because Dongmin tries so hard to let you have your fun, you pretend not to know. You crash into his side, rise on your tiptoes and press a quick kiss on his cheek with a giggle. It leaves a slight pink color behind on the skin, the same as the tips of the boy’s ears. It only makes you smile harder.

“Hi!”

“Hey,” he turns to you then, pushing the sunglasses up onto the crown of his head and somehow he manages to artfully mess up his black locks without looking silly while you are busy scrubbing his cheek clean. The next thing you know is his feline eyes zeroing in on your choice of clothes and he visibly swallows, you can see the bob of his Adam’s apple, which tells you that you made a right choice but he plays cool.

It reminds you of the first time you spoke, when he came up to you between university classes as you were grabbing a drink and asked if you would model for his fashion brand. Or well, he was rather offering you a part time job for a few thousand won. He was very serious about it but you were no model and your art university had a whole website for such scouting, so you were a bit suspicious.

“Why me?” You tilted your head, keeping eye contact because you literally couldn’t look away. Dongmin has always had the most beautiful eyes that sucked you in like a black hole.

“I think you would look good in my clothes,” he said and your eyebrows immediately shot up at the implications behind his words which he soon caught up on too. “I mean, my brand’s clothes,” he corrected himself and suddenly he looked shy. He wore all black and an intimidating bad boy aura and he was getting flustered by you.

“Show me?” You asked him with a sweet smile, stepping closer as he whipped out his phone to show you pictures on his brand’s Instagram (@giant_mountain_clothes). If you hadn’t been taken before by his charm, you were definitely impressed then by how cool his designs actually looked, so you followed each other on social media and agreed on a date for the photo session.

When the day came, Dongmin was all professionalism as he handed you the clothes (jeans with a pattern that looked like graffiti, black and white crop tops with pretty cool line art and typography) and he gave instructions both to you and the photographer about the poses and camera angles. By the end of it, you pretty much thought you had misunderstood his intentions last time. It would have been a bit disappointing if the modeling session turned out to be an awkward experience.

“Not gonna lie, at first I thought it’s just an excuse to ask me out but it’s very cool that you already have a brand like this during uni. And the clothes were super comfy, so I will make sure to stock up before you get famous,” you spoke up playfully after the photographer left and it was just the two of you alone. After changing back to your own clothes, you were allowed to roam around in the studio slash warehouse but you turned away from the sketches on the table when the silence became too loud, facing Dongmin who cleared his throat as soon as your eyes met.

“Well, would you have said yes?” He raised a brow, all nonchalant, but you smiled.

“Try asking,” you challenged him which made him laugh and the rest is history. One year has passed and you’re still going on strong.

Later you got to know that all of his previous models were either his friends or a friend of a friend, so him asking you was actually a big thing. Once you were added to the big friend group chat, Jaehyun couldn’t stop teasing him about it and telling you endearing details about how nervous Dongmin apparently was before that first modeling session of yours. Because of course, there were more following that.

Snapping back to reality, you tilt your head while looking at your boyfriend.

“Like it?” You ask as innocently as you can but your breath hitches when Dongmin slides a hand over your bare side protectively and leans closer to your ear.

“Very. Might ruin your lipstick later,” he promises in a low voice, his warm breath tickling your skin, then he pulls away but keeps his hand on you as he leads you out of the metro station. He walks slower deliberately, so you could keep up with his long legs.

“So… will you tell me now where we’re going?” You can’t help but inquire because curiosity has been bugging you so much. Dongmin asked you to make your day free in advance but he didn’t say anything about his plans and he gave no hints either. Unlike you who accidentally told him about the concert tickets you bought (which he first laughed about because of your overdramatic reaction but his face lit up nevertheless as if you brought him down the stars), he was too good at keeping secrets.

“You will see soon,” he grins at you with his boxy smile like a promise and doesn’t crumble even seeing your pout. He must really want to surprise you because that usually works.

And surprise he does when he takes you all over Insadong, to the second floor of a crammed, colorful building in the middle of an artsy district of the city to a jewelry studio.

“Wait… wait! Is this what I think it is?” You turn to your boyfriend with widened eyes when you see a poster about custom ring workshops beside the entrance. “Han Dongmin, you’re such a romantic!”

“Am not,” The boy denies immediately but he’s not looking into your eyes, apparently too busy searching up the confirmation email on his phone.

“Yeah, keep telling yourself that,” you mutter, smiling from ear to ear as you attach yourself to his side and crane your neck to look around in the studio. Now you understand why Jaehyun suggested wearing less jewelry for today’s activity.

You can’t stop smiling even as you are sitting down at a table after receiving protective gloves and an apron instructed to take measurements of the finger you want to make the ring for. You immediately reach out for Dongmin’s hand. There’s something intimate in the way your fingers slot together and you pay attention to every knuckle and even the needle scars on his fingertips from his hard work.

Dongmin is an artist and good at craft like that, so obviously the ring he makes for you is prettier than the one you make for him but he doesn’t seem to mind it at all. He doesn’t want perfection, he wants you with all your flaws and clumsy metalsmithing skills. It takes a few hours and a bunch of help from your instructors but you walk out of the studio with matching couple rings. Dongmin isn’t big on PDA but you can get away with holding his hand, the new rings still warm to touch grazing. You love holding his hand or just playing with his fingers; you love the casual intimacy of it, that you get to be close to him like this, connected in such a simple yet meaningful way.

At the metro, you nudge Dongmin’s side to make him look at you and there’s only fondness in his eyes which makes you feel spoiled. He always looks at you as if you were special.

“Thank you. I love it so much,” you tell him, wanting to commit this moment to your memories. Right next to the first time he told you he loves you. It was an accident, something he blurted out during play fighting while you acted pseudo sulky and you were so surprised you almost fell off the couch because he was an actions over words type of guy. You couldn’t make him say it again once realization hit both of you but you loved him in spite of it. Because of it. You just love him.

“Happy anniversary, baby,” Dongmin smiles and you melt like every time he calls you that. You close your eyes and lean your head on his shoulder, the ring bearing his initials feeling like a promise on your finger. He’s mine, mine, mine and I’m his, his, his, your heart chants all happy.

monty’s horror movie list

no one follows me for this but i’m back in my horror movie obsession era so here we go. some of them are good, some of them are bad (but I love them), and some of them are kind of unacceptable, like, morally tbh, I’m sorry

anyway, in no particular order:

mother!: I just watched this one today so it’s on my mind. get ready to be stressed out by deeply uncomfortable social situations for like, the first hour and a half and then genuinely disturbed for the last twenty minutes. i finished this and then sat in my room mouthing “what the fuck, what the fuck”. v good, 10/10

Orphan: What if you adopted a kid but they sucked?

Absentia: I was really impressed, cause this was like a low-budget, crowd funded movie but it’s so so good. This one is about a woman whose husband went missing years ago, a creepy tunnel, and family relationships. V quiet and sad

Possum: Not very much happens in this movie for a long time but the atmosphere is so good, and it’s genuinely creepy. The ending also made me so uncomfortable I almost couldn’t watch it, so there’s that

The Wolf House: Incredible unsettling stop-motion animation, and I’m a sucker for good animation. Makes more sense if you know a little Chilean history, but it’s interesting even without that context

Amityville: It’s About Time: Jumping right from that foreign arthouse film into cheesy schlock, what if a clock made people evil and fucked up?

Hell House LLC: More! Schlock! This is a fake documentary/found footage movie about people trying to make a haunted house in an old hotel... but what if it was haunted for real??

Host (the 2020 shudder original): Unfriended if it was good

Hereditary: Made me sad :( This was one of the first movies to genuinely scare me in a while, and my sister-in-law won’t even let anyone talk to her about it. The story about a family dealing with grief and complicated relationships is also just so interesting to me, this one’s in my top 10

Anything for Jackson: Reverse possession movie: they try to put a spirit IN someone! Hell yeah. So many good, weird ghosts in here, I love some good, weird ghosts

13 Ghosts: (the early 2000s remake) Speaking of good weird ghosts. What if your estranged uncle died and left you a house but there was a ghost jail in the basement? I just rewatched this movie with my little brother and remembered how much I love it. Very schlocky, Matthew Lillard’s acting is off the fucking walls and I love it, why does he act like that??

Kindred: One of the only “is it in her head, or is it real?” movies where I actually really wasn’t sure. It’s about a woman whose husband dies right before she’s about to give birth, so she ends up staying with his family and slowly starts to question their motives

Parents: What if you were just a little kid and you started to suspect your parents were eating people?

Basket Case: I’m not crying over a B movie, I’m not crying over a B movie. In this one, two conjoined twins are surgically separated against their wills, with one of them getting thrown in the trash. As adults, they start hunting down the doctors who did it to them

The Poughkeepsie Tapes: Very depressing fake documentary about a serial killer. Just fucked up and sad

The Taking of Deborah Logan: One of the few found footage movies that I think is actually good. A small documentary crew goes to film a woman and her aging mother who’s suffering from dementia, but they start to think that... huh, maybe this is something a little worse than dementia...

Ju-On: The Grudge (the original Japanese one): this movie just freaks me out, I don’t like how Kayako moves around, I don’t like the sounds she makes, and I don’t like her weird little son

The Ring (the American remake): I saw this movie when I was like 8 bc someone recorded it over the Willy Wonka VHS I’d gotten from the thrift store, and I’ve been fucked up ever since. In it, a woman sees a cursed tape that will make you die in seven days, and has to try and figure out how to save herself before then. GREAT atmosphere, very creepy

Sadako Vs Kayako: What if the girl from the Grudge and the girl from the Ring fought each other? Hell yeah. Plus, love that a ghost hunter comes to help with the situation and he’s got a random mean little girl with him. People are like “why is she here?” and he’s just like “she’s my associate” okay?? Where did she come from??? I’m obsessed with this movie

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: A classic. Rancid, nasty atmosphere, just feels gross, 10/10

Society: Rich people suck so so bad and are very fucked up

House of 1000 Corpses: I love this movie and I’m sorry, its just some disgusting, campy fun. Like, what if your car broke down the night before halloween and ended up in a house with some terrible (but very entertaining) people?

Oculus: The idea of being a little kid, stuck in the house while your parents are slowly losing it, or potentially being possessed by something evil, is really scary to me. This movie does it so well. It moves back and forth from the main characters going through that in their childhoods, to them as adults, back in the house where it happened, and it’s so so good

Hellraiser: You tell me it’s about the blurry line between pleasure and pain and I watch it. The designs for the cenobites are so good. I like this first one a lot, but I also really enjoy the second one bc the torture dimension looks like MC Escher designed it and it’s sick as hell

The Others: This is one of my favorite, like, classic haunted house kind of movie. A mother keeps her kids inside an old mansion, with all the curtains drawn, because they have an illness that means they can’t go in the sunlight. Very, very creepy

The Blair Witch Project: This one just feels so real, I’ve never seen another found footage movie that reached this level. The actors knocked it out of the park, how am I so freaked out just by a couple of people wandering around the woods? It’s the blueprint, honestly

A Nightmare on Elm Street: You guys know this one, he gets you in your dreams! Probably my favorite of the classic slashers, I love some good old practical effects. my brother actually just bought me the WHOLE box set for my birthday so I’m gonna start working though the ones I haven’t seen yet

Jennifer’s Body: What if your best friend, who you have a very homoerotic relationship with, started eating dudes? Iconic. No, but seriously, this movie has a lot more going on than you might think

House of Wax (the 2000s remake): Bad, but so good. It’s really got that uncanny valley thing going on, love that fucked up wax museum

Ichi the Killer: Pretty unacceptable, I can’t in good conscience tell you to watch this movie, but it’s definitely an experience. Very very very violent, like super violent, but in the wildest fucking ways. Basically, what if you were a masochistic Yakuza member with a weird joker mouth and you just wanted a sadistic vigilante to beat the absolute shit out of you? Anyway, I think there’s something wrong with Takashi Miike and probably also me

Black Christmas: This is one of the og og slashers. It’s about girls getting killed in a sorority house, but surprisingly it’s like, not really an exploitation film, and I really like the characters. Good, unsettling killer, too

The Baby: WEIRD. Weird and uncomfortable. I’m not trying to kink shame anyone when I say this, but it’s probably definitely a fetish thing. In it, a social worker takes on the case of a family with an adult son who they’re claiming has the mind of a baby. This one’s probably kind of unacceptable too, to be honest with you

And with that, you accidentally spit on his arm. Of course you immediately cleaned it, not being able to look at him for good 3 hours. When you finally reappeared from behind your scarf, he couldn't help, but to make another dumb joke, connected to you spitting on him.

Johnny: Would definitely bug you about, why you suddenly acted all shy and blushed everytime he told you to look at him. Started teasing you without knowing the reason, until you finally told him that you had walked in on him showering earlier. Broke out into a huge burst of laughter. "Oh, Y/N you already saw me naked before. What's the problem?" Taeyong: He would definitely try to comfort you. First he wants to know why you've been blushing so hard and acting more shy than normally. Then he would tell you it's not a big deal, generally making you feel more secure. Hugs you and maybe also pinches your cheeks. Yuta: I can see him not caring that much about you being shy. When he looked up and met your eyes, you both flushed red and quickly looked everywhere but at each other. Lucas: I really don't know how he would act. He's embarrassing himself all the time, but mostly doesn't care and continues being weird. So for you, he'll probably laugh or at least chuckle a bit, crushing you in his arms. MAYBE, JUST MAYBE he's being shy too. Deep below I can see a very sensitive person in him, so that's where his enormous hugs come from. Mark: Mark is the king of shyness. You remember how he tried explaining some lyrics, yeah? Well, he would have no idea why you were blushing and hiding in your sweater palms. Did you just fart? 'Cause you blew me away.... Renjun: I can't decide whether he would chuckle at you or try to make you feel less shy. He knows how it is to be teased about something embarrassing (geurae naegen neoppuniyAa), but he also teases the members a lot, so maybe it'll be depending on the situation. If it's about something big like cracking your voice on national TV he would comfort and reassure you, probably some cuddles. Also tries to make you forget it. If it's because of an unimportant situation he would laugh at you. The way you just walked into a closed door? Hilarious. He would bring it up weeks later, turning you into a shy mess once again. Jeno: I can totally see him being a safekeeper, inviting you into his arms and cuddling you, until you are ready to face other people again. Except for the cases where you stay where you are and mumble into his shirt what happened, making him laugh and squeeze you a bit more. Haechan: Definitely in team teasing! He is probably the most annoying one in Nct and with you? Good luck, he is even more annoying. When you spontaneously went to the store, to buy a new bottle of your favorite bodywash and your boyfriend decided to tag along, you hadn't thought it would end like this. You just picked the bottle, when he screamed "How on earth smells 'Fresh Mountain breeze. Or here, look 'Chocolate cookie cream tart'." The few people who were standing in the same row giving you weird looks, causing you to blush and embarrassingly trying to pull him away from the different bodywash's. "No, look here is one called 'hot winternight wood'. Why are there such stupid names?" His outburst making you blush more. "Haechan, come on. Let's go home." Finally he looked at you noticing the red hue covering not only your cheeks but your whole face and of course he started laughing more. "You are so embarrassed, aren't you? Actually it should be the person who chose these silly names. I mean how can you call a simple bodywash 'Sparkling Starlight Rain'?" You couldn't help the laughter that now flowed uncontrollably out of you, forgetting your prior flustered state and enjoying your happy boyfriend. Please ignore this being long af Jaemin: Would definitely tease you in a cute way. Means, he's chuckling and poking your red cheeks with his fingers, cooing something along the lines of "My Y/Nie. My little Angel is so cute when blushing." *cue you blushing more* YangYang: Most likely also part of the teasing line, but also comforts you. He and hyuck are literally best friends. You really wish you could turn back time at the moment. YangYang invited you to the WayV dorm for the first time, but you already knew the rest of the boys, so you were pretty chill, walking down the street, breathing the cold air in. Maybe a bit too chilled, considering the fact you had pressed the wrong doorbell and with that, got to know their old neighbor, who ignored your apologizing and accused you of pulling a prank on her, especially after she heard, you were the s.o of the 'loud screaming kindergarten-boy'. When you arrived at the right door, you were greeted by Hendery, Lucas and YangYang laughing loudly. "Did you really just rang the wrong doorbell?!" Making you feel the blood rise to your cheeks. "Come in, you need to tell us everything she said. We only heard the end where she called me a kindergarten boy." Shyly you sat on the couch, fiddling with your fingers, after you finished talking, waiting for the boys to stop laughing at you. Suddenly your boyfriend latched himself onto you, comforting you in a big hug. "If you want to, we can really pull a prank on her the next time, you visit." Shotaro: Similar to Jungwoo. I still need to figure this boy out. He made those tiktok's, but now he is the cutest little smiling otter. Anyway, I think it's depending on the situation. If it is because of something one of you

said or did, he'll get shy too, copying your mannerism and surely goes into 🦦mode. If someone else caused it, he probably tries to stay calm and gets you to calm down too. Sungchan: I get a comfortable and reassuring vibe from him, so he'll kinda be like TY. When he first wanted to introduce you to the rest of the members you suddenly became really shy and tried to hide behind his back. He was confused at first, but soon found out that you were 'just' nervous. "Trust me Y/N, they are going to like you. Please don't worry! I'm not going to leave your side, okay?" Chenle: This boy, honestly he would be laughing in his best dolphin at you. "Y/N you look like a tomato. What happened?" Which leads to you, trying to hide behind your hands. "Nothing." Of course he wouldn't believe you, switching his technique to tickling you. "Tell me what happened!" But you surprisingly stayed strong and instead settled for cuddling with your boyfriend to distract him and hopefully recover yourself from your heavy blushing. Jisung: I have a feeling it would be mutual. Like you two just accidentally bumped your heads together and immediately started apologizing. You are both super embarrassed and shy about the situation, but eventually you will forget what happened or just ignore it. UNTIL someone brings it up again and both of you are blushing like crazy AGAIN.

Sirius Black Must Die: Chapter One

Disclaimer: this is my first Sirius Black fanfic if so go easy on me, yeah? Also if there are any mistakes, ignore them 😊

Let’s start from the beginning, to the moment where YN finds out how much of a womanizer Sirius Black really is.

YN has known Sirius since the first year, however, he really never noticed her. To be honest, almost no one did. Just her few friends from Ravenclaw, Amara, Dean, and Charlie. Dean is two years older while Amara is a year older. Charlie and YN are the same age. However, it wasn’t until year 4 where Sirius started to build his reputation as Hogwarts’s very own womanizer.

At first, it started out with him making out with girls at the Marauders’ famous Gryffindor common room parties every time they win a quidditch game. Then it was Sirius flirting with girls in the corridors until it finally came to Sirius having infamous flings with girls from the different houses. He even hooked up with a few Ravenclaw girls. Even the “smart house” fell for Sirius’s fuckboy tricks.

Now how did YN truly find out Sirius has been two- or should we say three-timing his supposed girlfriends?

I mean sure, YN did see his little show in the Great Hall but that was nothing compared to the show he put on in the Three Broomsticks.

YN was in the Three Broomsticks with Amara, Charlie, and Dean at a booth on a January afternoon. The four of them were drinking butterbeer, eating cheeseburgers and fish and chips. They were talking about their Christmas and New Years, what they got, and thanking each other for the gifts they have received. While YN was laughing at something Dean said, Sirius walked in with Alessia. YN knew her, they were in DADA together, although she’s a year older. She observed how Sirius would call her pet names such as “love” and “darling”, usually she finds it charming, but on Sirius, it was nauseating.

“YN, what could you possibly be looking at?” Dean asked her. She was like a little sister to him so he’s protective and sweet.

“Leave her alone, Dean. She’s obviously pining for Sirius Black himself.” Amara said teasingly, making YN snap her head back her.

“I would never fall for such an arrogant and cocky guy like him. I’m just observing, like look at Alessia. Look at her body language, she radiates confidence and is extremely beautiful yet she falls for this kind of shit? Seems messed up to me.” YN said, taking a bite out of her chip.

“I mean you’re not wrong. But Sirius is an attractive guy, we have to admit, he has girls lined up.” Charlie said as he drank some of his butter beer.

They finished and went back to their common room.

The next day, YN went to the Three Broomsticks alone around 7 pm so she can have some alone reading time. She was reading the muggle book “Six of Crows” and when she was on chapter 5, Sirius came in and sat at a table with Catalina, a Slytherin. YN couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw them two together. It was like an unwritten rule where Gryffindors and Slytherins shouldn’t mingle. What she saw surprised her more, they were making out, he caressed her face and deepened the kiss. Her hands in his long fluffy hair. YN left the Three Broomsticks and thought to herself.

What kind of guy has two girlfriends? The sleazy kind, that’s who.

She went to Honeydukes for some candy for her and her friends. Especially for Amara with her period coming up next week so she bought a ton of chocolate. When she was done, she walked back to the castle and didn’t expect to find Sirius and Ximena, a Hufflepuff, making out by the Black Lake.

“You see that star? It’s the brightest one out of all of them but they don’t sparkle nearly as much as your eyes.” YN heard Sirius say to Ximena, she mimed puking and rolled her eyes at that super cheesy line.

“You are so sweet, Si, I’m glad we’re doing this.” YN heard Ximena say. YN decided that enough was enough and went straight to her common room after answering the stupid riddle. She sat down in the couch and Amara could tell she was upset.

“What happened? You look peeved.” Amara said.

“Ugh, it’s Sirius Black, I can’t believe him. Oh, and I bought you chocolate for when you get your period.” YN said, tossing her the bag. “It’s just that, Alessia, Catalina, and Ximena are literally model status! They’re fucking flawless and could get any guy they want like that but they choose to date Sirius Black? What kind of witchcraft is this? Catalina literally walks like she owns the place and I’m so happy because she’s a bad bitch, Ximena is the sweetest girl ever and has a bunch of boys asking her out, I’ve seen this. And Alessia is literally an awesome quidditch player, radiance confidence, how did they end up with such a sleaze.” YN finishes her rant by screaming into one of the pillows on the couch.

“Yeah, he’s the worse, I know. But hey, it’s not your problem so don’t get involved.” Amara told YN as she pat her head. “Goodnight, love bug, see you at breakfast.” YN stayed up contemplating life. She knew all the Marauders weren’t bad, James was like Sirius, constantly flirting, but he only did that with ONE GIRL, not three. Remus is amazing and Peter is just there, they were the most tolerable Marauders.

Then this is where YN sees that whole show in the Great Hall. She was eating lunch and saw the whole thing go down.

“I can’t wait until this whole thing blows up in his face.” YN said.

“I doubt it, he might just come out of that whole thing unscathed.” Charlie said.

“He’s still a total sleaze.” YN said rolling her eyes,

2 weeks later

YN walked into DADA and saw Sirius’s three girlfriends in their own little clique. Alessia was with the other Gryffindors, mainly the ones who were also in the quidditch team. Luckily Sirius wasn’t in this class otherwise all hell would have broke loose.

“Okay class, today we will be practicing disarming spells. First you will practice on the dummies, line up in front of the dummies, groups of 4 please. Then in those same groups, you’ll practice on each other after I show you defense spells.” The DADA teacher said. YN lined up behind Ximena since her group needed a fourth member.

“Hi, I’m YN.” YN said rather shyly.

“Oh hi, I’m Ximena.” Ximena said in a friendly matter. Two rows down, Alessia was taking to her friend, Margaret.

“Hey you weren’t at the great hall this morning, where were you?” Maggie asked as she casted the disarming spell. When Alessia did the same spell, she went to the back of the line.

“Oh, it’s like super hush hush but since you’re my best friend, I’ll tell you, Sirius invited me to the astronomy tower last night and I kinda spent the night in his dorm room. Can you believe it? Sirius Black is just so..” Alessia was interrupted when Catalina casted the flipendo jinx and Alessia landed on her ass. “Hey! What was that for?”

“Oh like you don’t know.” Catalina said

“Believe me, Slytherin, I don’t know what you’re babbling about, Montoya.” Alessia said getting off the floor,

“I’m dating Sirius Black, you Gryffin-whore, so stay away from him!” Catalina then started jinxing Alessia and Alessia fought back.

“Come on, guys, this is probably a big misunderstanding.” Ximena says trying to diffuse the tension and getting in between them.

“Puh-lease, little miss Sunshine, if I want to fight her for saying that she’s dating Sirius Black when we all know he’s my boyfriend, I’ll do it.” Catalina said and that’s when Ximena pushed both Catalina and Alessia to the ground.

“No way, I’m dating Sirius Black!” Ximena said and now the three girls are fighting each other and that’s when YN has had enough and casted the expelliarmus charm and uses the amplifying charm

“Sirius Black is cheating on the three of you and instead of taking it out on him , you’re beating the shit out of each other?!?” YN said. And that is when the DADA teacher gave the four girls detention.

Jan/Feb 2021 Picks

HELLO! It’s been a while, but I’M BACK!! Life has gotten a lot busier as I started Grad School this January. So, I feel it may be tough being on time with future Monthly Wraps like I’ve done in the past with working on my MFA, and my job. I’m going to probably do more seasonal wrap ups when I get the time. I also think I’ll be posting more individual posts as I watch an episode. Because even with a busier schedule, there is always time for TV and there’s so much I want to talk about!

You know the drill. Spoilers are coming.....

You’ve been warned :)

WANDAVISION

I want to start off by mentioning that I have not watched this week’s episode yet. So the last one I saw was EPISODE 6 with Halloween in the late 90s/early 2000s.

THIS SHOW! OMG.

I didn’t know what I was signing up for when I watched the first episode and I have been blown away. It is such a cool concept and I love the fact that everyone who watches it is confused. There have been so many interesting theories out there and I am so curious what is going to wind up being true. I love all the nods to old sitcoms and TV shows as well as all the MCU Easter Eggs. (I mean they got X-men’s Quicksilver-like WOW.) It feels really Black Mirror at times with the breaking of the fourth wall. I will never be able to shake the feeling I got in Episode 3, when Vision reversed. (And then I saw a bunch of videos with him looking at the camera as Wanda looks at the TV. Eww I don’t like it, but it’s such a good move on their point.) I love the outside plot as well and the characters who were previously side characters in other MARVEL movies. The love for Jimmy Woo is astounding and I’m here for it. I’m glad it’s Friday, so I can watch the next episode. I’m just upset that we’re so close to the show ending. The next Disney Plus Marvel shows better be just as good. Wandavision set the bar high.

NANCY DREW

If you’ve visited this page recently, you know I have a very strong love for this show. It is the only one I am still watching religiously on the CW and I am tuning in the night it airs. (That is HUGE for me.) IT IS JUST SO GOOD AND I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START....

2x05 just aired, which would have been the season 1 finale before COVID and I have it saved on my DVR to watch again. There’s just so much I want to relive and catch that I missed the first watch through. It would have been SUCH A GOOD FINALE, but I’m happy that we can continue with new episodes starting next week. And with the way it ended...there’s so much I need to know!! I’m just curious how fast they’re going to develop certain plots. I love the Drew Crew and how they are a family. Each character is so well developed and their chemistry is great. I love learning more about each of them and watching them develop. My favorite character is definitely Ace. I love all his witty lines and how he is opening up more to the group as well as to us, the audience, as we get more of a look into his personal life. I enjoy all of his scenes with his dad and specifically liked when they were celebrating Shabbat. (I am also here for the Nancy and Ace content. THE WATCH

When I watched the Christmas special (or was it New Years? and why does that feel so long ago) of Doctor Who, BBC America kept advertising a new show called the Watch. Due to the extensive amount of commercials, I decided to tape the first two episodes (which premiered back to back) to see what it was all about. I was unaware that this series is based on the book series created by Terry Pratchett. When I came to see if people were talking about it on Tumblr, I saw that a lot of people didn’t like it because of how drastically different it was. As I was unfamiliar with the original, I can’t compare. The TV show was eight episodes and I just watched the last one that aired this past Sunday. I definitely liked the first half of the season more (I noticed my mind start to drift as I watched later ones), but thought the finale was good. I really enjoyed how they incorporated the theme song. I didn’t realize the connection earlier and now can’t stop humming it. (I don’t know if there will be another season or not.) I enjoyed the characters and how it was like nothing I’ve seen on TV before. It got me thinking a lot about blending genres. I would still recommend checking it out.

ZOEY’S EXTRORDINARY PLAYLIST

I was VERY excited for this show to come back. I loved the first season so much. It’s just such a heartfelt show and it helped me survive the early parts of quarantine. So far, this season I am noticing how detailed the musical performances are. Mandy Moore is doing an AMAZING job. The choreography is *chefs kiss* I also feel like the song choices have been great and not always the ones I think that would be picked. We are getting to learn more about each character and watch Zoey and her family as they continue life after losing Mitch. I am here for Mo and Max’s restaurant. I think the concept would be so cool in real life. Who knows maybe we’ll see one now. (Max’s rendition of ‘Numb’ was amazing. I’ve never heard the song like that and I think it might be one of my favorites of the season so far.) I hope Max and Zoey get back together by the end of the season. It did feel fast, so I do understand why they had to break up, but it still makes me sad that we watched them get together and then it was taken away from us. The last episode before the break was so powerful and I think the show did an amazing job applying real world issues into their plot. It did not feel forced at all and brought so much awareness. Upset we have to wait so long for a new episode.

SECRETS OF SULPHUR SPRINGS

Are you looking for a good mystery, but don’t think Disney Channel can provide it? Think again. I have to say, when I started watching I was not expecting this show to be a part of my monthly picks. It pleasantly surprised me. The show involves the mystery of a young girl, Savannah, who went mysteriously missing at camp back in the 90s. Apparently, her ghost still haunts the hotel that was on the camp grounds to this day. Then Griffin and his family buy the hotel with intent of fixing it up and reopening it after all these years. The people in the town think they’re crazy because of its past. But there’s something more going on with Griffin’s dad as well as some of the other adults in the town. They know something about Savannah’s disappearance, but aren’t saying anything about it. While this is a kid’s show (and only half hour episodes) it has been interesting to see where the story will go. I’m sure I am imagining much more intense things for her disappearance than what actually happened. It’s also not super cheesy or have bad acting, which is refreshing. (I really feel Disney Channel has gone down.) Either way, I don’t know how many episodes are left to air, but I think we’re pretty close to the end. If you’re looking for a quick, entertaining mystery I would highly recommend.

MISS SCARLET AND THE DUKE

And here come my period pieces (ironically both from Masterpiece/PBS this time). I know last year I felt like I watched a lot of historical watches at the beginning of the year. We’ll see if that continues to happen this year too. It does serve as a nice escape. Plus, these are some really good stories.

Miss Scarlet and the Duke is a part of Masterpiece Mystery on PBS, although it aired on a different network in the UK. It is (another) mystery series (shocking I know with that title!) It follows Eliza Scarlet who has a nose for mystery, but as a woman living in the Victorian era does not have any rights except for being a wife and mother (two things she would rather not be). When her father dies (apparently from a heart attack...emphasis on apparently), she takes over his Private Investigator business. Much to the dismay of long time family friend William “The Duke” who is a Detective Inspector for Scotland Yard. Eliza is often in his office as she gets arrested for being places she shouldn’t or trying to get information out of him. This element of Eliza having to work in a very male dominated Victorian society is one that I feel I haven’t really seen on a TV show. I really like her dynamic with William. There’s always that feeling of “will they won’t they,” but I don’t feel the show just focuses on that. The mystery is the heart of it all. This last week’s episode was REALLY GOOD. As we got to find out more regarding her father’s death. I hear a lot of people want a season 2 and I am right there with them. This show deserves it.

ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL

Another PBS Masterpiece watch. I love this show, so much more than I was anticipating. It is so heartfelt and makes me so happy and in a good mood after watching it. It follows James Herriot who has recently graduated from veterinary school, but is struggling finding a job. Then he gets a call from Siegfried Farnon’s veterinary practice in Yorkshire. Siegfried is known for having a harsh demeanor and temper, so the assistants he hires don’t often last long. Spoiler alert, that should be pretty obvious, James does. The cast of characters are so lovely and I like all their relationships with one another. The show takes places in the 1930s and I realized I don’t often watch things in this era, so that has been fun to explore. The sets and locations are BEAUTIFUL. In the episodes, we often get these amazing shots that sweep over the exterior and I want to travel to Yorkshire like tomorrow. (See more escapism, it’s great.) The main plot follows everyone interact in the town and watching James become a more confident and experienced veterinarian (which I decided I could never do after watching). I heard that it has been renewed for a second season so that is so fantastic.

FATE: THE WINX SAGA

The first things I heard about this show was how disappointed everyone was in how they decided to adapt the Winx Club show from their childhood. On this I can agree, but I decided to watch the show anyway. I pretended that it was something new entirely and I have to say I enjoyed it. Of course, there were parts that bothered me and then I had to remember it was a teen show, so angst would be annoying. I think overall it was too short (and should have at least 8 or 10 episodes), but I’m happy that they were able to conclude the main plot well. (Although we did get that cliffhanger, but it is exciting that it was released the show just got renewed for a second season the other day.) I really liked Silva-mainly because it was great seeing Thomas from Downton Abbey in something else. I also enjoyed seeing Jacob Duchman in more things. It was a surprise to see him in Medici and I am just happy he is adding more to his IMDB.

Quick and addicting watch. Add it to your queue. Just forget it’s supposed to be based on something else.

BLOWN AWAY SEASON 2

Continuing with the Netflix picks, one of my FAVORITE picks from 2020 got a season 2 and it is already on Netflix! That’s right Blown Away season 2 is now available. I seriously loved the first season of this show SO MUCH! Glass blowing is such a magical process and I am mesmerized every time I watch it. It felt weird starting this show with all new contestants, but then Alex came back as a guest judge and I was so happy. It is just as addicting and I cannot wait to see who wins this season. I am just trying not to rush the episodes.

VIOLETTA SEASON 3 UPDATE

I know you were all dying to know...

After taking a hiatus from watching during the holidays, I have gotten back into watching the Disney Channel telenovela on Disney Plus. I am now on episode 68. Things are really starting to happen and I am finding myself getting sucked in again, which makes me happy. Episode 60 (pictured above) had A LOT happen and really was a turning point for the second half of the show. Can’t wait to keep watching. Some really awesome songs from these last set of episodes.

LEGACIES

This third season has really disappointed me so far. As I’ve previously discussed on this page, it feels like they are just reusing previous plots from the last two seasons when there is so much more they can do. There was so much promise for this show and I loved the Vampire Diaries and Originals so much, that it’s sad to see Legacies miss the mark. I wish they gave Hope more storylines that didn’t revolve around Landon. She is such a strong character and is SO POWERFUL. This is something we rarely see and it shouldn’t only be shown to save a guy (multiple times). Their couple plot is continually doing the same thing. I want to see a lot more development with this show over this season to keep me watching. I am actually happy that there isn’t a new episode until March 11th. (That’s saying something...)

There have been so many amazing fics published in the last couple of months. I’ve been struggling to keep up with COC and various exchange fics. Been catching up recently, so here you have it. Sorry if I included you and haven’t commented yet - I am getting there ☺️ (I also for the sake of brevity excluded fics already in @captain-aralias thirsty Thursday, but read those too.)

A Light From Miles Away, T, complete, by @stillmadaboutpetra. This fic is amazing - diverges from canon pre-Carry On, but weaves so much of what I love most from CO and WS into this really beautiful, sweet story. Baz and Simon are beautifully characterized, but Penny and Shepard are front and center as well, which was lovely to read. go read this now

Bro Under The Mistletoe, T, complete by @nick-eyre. Look, this fic is hilarious. The amount of storytelling that happens in 900 words is astounding. Plus, there’s art!

See You In Court, T, 2/4 by @nightimedreamersworld. This is an ace attorney au, which I don’t know anything about - but I don’t feel like I have to. This is a canon divergence AU. A beautiful, gritty and complex story, but also really lovely and imaginative. And it’s about vampires! And lawyers! And vampire lawyers! (Well, just one.)

angels on evergreens, T, complete by dizzy - a follow up to christmas all around me, a super sweet normal au about Simon and Baz falling in love during quarantine and christmas. This sequel is super adorable but read the initial fic first so you get the payoff!

A Man of Letters, or Five Times Baz Retreats and One Time He Doesn’t, T, complete - by @palimpsessed. Yes this fic was finished nearly a month ago; yes I read it nearly a month ago, but I’m still not over it (blame Bridgerton.) (This is much much better.) A vivid, sweet and funny regency au.

Mine To Borrow by @arca9, T, complete. A very sweet AU where Baz shelters Simon during a snowstorm. It’s so cozy and funny and you will love it.

My lovely gift fic, Every line lost, T, complete, by @ninemagicks. Truly the greatest Christmas present I could ask for. (I am going to comment on the last chapter soon!) It’s sarcastic and funny and sweet. It makes you hate cheesy Christmas films and then fall in love with them all over again. (Also Avalon, with you by @ninemagicks, T, complete. I just felt this one so deeply. I think anyone who is a little obsessive about fictional worlds will.)

There are so many more fics I loved, and tons I’m still catching up on, but I’m cutting myself off here! watermelon sugar - this one was super fun to write. jungkook in this is just so sweet and whipped soft and i love him.

just like the movies - idk i just love this one. it’s such a classic cliche idiots 2 lovers it makes my heart happy lol.

melt my heart - this is based off of a hallmark movie and i’m actually really proud of how well i was able to write this based off of the movie and like it just screams cheesy christmas romance and i love it.

stuck - there’s just something about this fic that i love so much. it’s so angsty and i love the mc in this one - she’s probably one of my favorite mcs i’ve written because she’s just such a flawed badass i love ms. peach.

(un)welcomed addition - this was my first big fic i wrote when i started writing fanfic again and it holds a special place in my heart. plus it was my first fuckboy!jungkook fic 😂

stuck part 2 - the conclusion to stuck! i really wanted to get this out last year but it was to the point where when i even looked at the doc my brain would just refuse to work so i put it on the back burner until i could get into a groove with it again and i finally have! 2k words down, who knows how many more to write lmao.

tell me you want me - my fic for the spring break-ing the rules project! it’s a jimin fic and will be an angsty smutty messy best friend’s brother fic. i’ve wanted to write this since last year but then the collab it was for was canceled, but i was able to dig it back up. it was originally a jungkook fic, but something i need to work on is writing more fics for bts evenly so i reevaluated and it’ll be a jimin fic now which i actually think fits better.

neeba zow - this is my fic for the bangtan dlc collab i’m co-hosting. it’s sims 4!streamer taehyung x sims 3!streamer reader and it’ll be part humor-ish, part smut tbh. i’m still finishing up the outline but i hope to start working on this and tell me you want me this month or next!

letting you go part 2 - part 2 of my lil angsty baby letting you go. it was originally going to just be pure angst and left how it is, but the more i thought about it and the more people asked i figured my girl needed a better ending than what she got so that’s still currently being outlined!

keep it up - a namjoon pwp that i have been working on since ariana’s positions album came out 😬 it was going to be for a collab that didn’t happen, but now i just really want to finish the damn thing!!!

3 biggest improvements

honestly just starting to write again. i went years away from fanfiction even when i wanted to start doing it again, but i finally fixed my negative thoughts around it and found inspiration once again and here i am.

my characterization is much better than in the past i’d say. i’m much better at my mcs than i was when i was younger and i hope to continue doing that.

just my writing in general i’d say. when i think about the shit i wrote and the way i wrote like 10+ years ago i want to throw up lmao. so my writing as a whole is much better than it has ever been.

2 ways i wish to improve my writing

planning. i try to outline each fic i write but sometimes i don’t, then idk what i’m doing then life gets in the way and writing becomes harder because i didn’t outline and i don’t have time and i have a meltdown and it’s a whole thing lol. so consistent planning so i can get shit done!

honestly my smut lol. i have had plenty of people tell me how good my smut is or how hot it is and believe me i am SO flattered like you don’t even know, but personally, i would like to improve it. it does get a little tricky sometimes since i’m a huge sapphic who hasn’t touched a man since i was like 20 (ew) so sometimes i forget what straight sex is like 😂

Frozen 2:The Impression of Accountability, Iduna and Agnar Characterization Analysis

Warning: LONG POST, Anti-Frozen, spoilers for Frozen 2, swearing, talking about racism and mentions child abuse. If I get anything wrong on the issue of accountability, please don’t hesitate to correct me.

Summary: Examining the inconsistencies between Frozen 2′s depiction of the behavior of Iduna and Agnarr and how this affects the overall themes of Frozen.

Introduction

I’ve let myself sit on Frozen 2 and how I feel about it for a couple of months now. I’ve mostly focused on the meta-aspects of the film, from it’s character design to the early spoilers, but nothing too in depth until recently.

And I’ve come to this conclusion that Frozen 2 is almost accountable, but backs away from any true accountability on the part of Arendelle and, most controversially from the response from my posts, Elsa and Anna’s parents.

Arendelle: The Spirits Hate Them But Not Really

Frozen 2 is often praised for it’s handling of holding Arendelle accountable for it’s crimes. The spirits are angry with Arendelle for the previous king, Agnarr’s father Runeard for killing the leader of Northuldra. It is up to Anna and Elsa to right the wrongs of the past and destroy the damn that brought only grief to the Northuldra and the spirits of the Enchanted forest.

So, I have a question. If the spirits were so angry with Arendelle, then why trap the Northuldra and allow Agnarr to leave to rule Arendelle without any real repercussions? Sure, King Runeard is killed in battle, an immediate consequence for his actions but that was ultimately a good thing because he sucked. Only a few soldiers were left behind as well. And King Runeard was later succeeded by king Agnarr, his son, who sucked slightly less than him.

Arendelle was allowed to prosper with a better king, and Iduna is rewarded for saving his life by the spirits by having her child be gifted with magic.

For saving the son of the man who murdered the Northuldra leader.

Because that is something to reward...??

I’m starting to think that the concept of accountability is kind of twisted in Frozen 2. Arendelle is explicitly in the wrong, and yet, they are rewarded constantly for no reason.

The entire Northuldra community, who have a good relationship with the spirits and were merely acting in self defense, were collectively punished and forcibly kept in a magic barrier for 34 years. That doesn’t sound very fair to me.

Arendelle is Rewarded Rather Than Truly Punished

Yeah, Arendelle is wrong, but they get more benefits than punishments in long run. In fact, you could argue they were exponentially REWARDED for their heinous actions because as a result of the battle they have:

A super powerful monarch who wields magic (which no one else has because Elsa is special)

A better king than the one who died in battle to succeed him (King Agnarr) and who is married to the woman who is the favored child of the spirits

Citizens allowed to go anywhere they want and do trade with other countries to their benefit

Any consequence of said powerful monarchs magical actions (eternal winter) maybe only lasted three days, TOPS. After that she is immediately accepted for her powers and now Arendelle is essentially bulletproof because they have a magic ice queen to defend them.

Allowed to get a warning before the flood of Arendelle, but the Northuldra didn’t get any.

Allowed Elsa to stop the flood to spare Arendelle, because for some reason the spirits are super cool with Arendelle now?

Like, how fucking crazy would it have been if the spirits woke up and immediately destroyed the dam while everyone in Arendelle was sleeping? THAT would’ve been a life or death conflict.

But the movie is determined to deal with accountability with kid gloves, or weasel out at the last minute.

Part 2: Iduna and Agnarr

Now, the aspect I want to talk about is the way that the story frames Iduna and Agnarr and how this contrasts with what we know about them up until the most recent movie.

This is an examination of the theatrical installments of Frozen because they are the most canonical. Extra stories in books or supplemental material that wasn’t widely released or accessible don’t really count. And not to mention, the consistency between the theatrically released movies and shorts are mostly made by the same team. Therefore, have most canonical elements to them.

Iduna and Agnarr’s Relationship with their Children

Up until Frozen 2, the general consensus was that Iduna and Agnarr’s parents was...misguided.

Misguided being a very soft term in my opinion because I truly feel that what they did was completely out of line and extreme, crossing the border of abuse. But that’s my personal opinion and it’s not how they are framed in the movie.

Control vs. Love Theme

Iduna and Agnarr love Elsa and Anna. That much is true. However, Frozen, like a lot white disney princess movies believes that good intentions means benevolent actions. (Please note: I’m going to refer to Elsa and Anna as white coded, because that appears to be the most appropriate given that they are canonically white passing Indigenous characters. Yet, all the white disney princess tropes definitely apply to how they are framed and their characterization in the first film).

However, this is not true whatsoever in reality, but most importantly, it’s not consistent with what is shown as a result of their desire to control Elsa.

And yes, their desire to control and contain her meant that their “love” for Elsa-- least the impression they gave her and never made her feel otherwise--was conditional love. It means that as long as she controlled her powers they approved of her and gave positive reinforcement.

Iduna and Agnarr’s Love Had Conditions, Anna’s Didn’t

Their approach love can be compared to Prince Hans, because he is another extreme: He wouldn’t be interested in Anna if she didn’t have the power he desired. Many characters in Frozen are compared in whether their love comes with conditions, or is unconditional.

Iduna and Agnarr, unwittingly, proved to Elsa that their love for her was conditional. Yes, they loved her, but they didn’t love every part of her. And that, in of itself, is placing conditions on their love.

If we go by the narrative context of Anna’s love in comparison, hers comes without condition. Elsa’s powers are at their most controlled when she is given love without strings. Which is why the solution was (admittedly very cheesy and somewhat out of place) “love.”

The more specific kind is the love Anna has for her sister. She never stops loving Elsa, even after she is hurt by her. She might be angry, frustrated, but in the end loves Elsa the right way.

Frozen Fever

Subsequent installments drive home this point even further. In Frozen Fever, more is revealed in implications about their parents without directly referring to them by name.

Iduna and Agnarr don’t celebrate Anna’s birthday after the incident. Elsa cannot recognize when she is sick and in need of medical attention. She feels like she needs to go overboard in celebrating Anna’s birthday, is highly self critical, because their parents never allowed either of them to celebrate it.

Olaf’s Frozen Adventure

Olaf’s Frozen Adventure goes even further into the theme that Anna and Elsa are moving away from their parents traditions and expectations.

Elsa laments not having a Christmas tradition, because her parents only rung the bell in front of the citizens as a superficial way to signal “everything’s just fine,” when it wasn’t. When all the mandated bell ringing was done, they went back to separating the sisters.

At the end, Elsa and Anna make their own unique traditions, and that ringing the bell doesn’t matter anymore. Their bond is what makes Christmas special for them. This is narrative cue that they are moving away from their parents and looking toward the future.

Frozen 2: Iduna and Agnarr’s Love is Depicted as Unconditional

And then we get to Frozen 2.

I have problems with the way they portray Iduna and Agnarr as parents in Frozen 2. It started when the film opened with Elsa and Anna playing with Elsa’s magic while their parents look on smiling.

That’s confusing, and a little out of character. I didn’t get the impression in the first movie or shorts that Iduna nor Agnarr particularly cared for Elsa’s powers, and I also didn’t think they would be so cool with her using them so blatantly.

Elsa’s ice powers were the bond that kept Anna and her together. That’s why they had to go and play in secret. Because Elsa’s powers were supposed to be something that couldn’t be played with out in front of their parents. That was the first cue that something was very different about this Iduna and Agnarr.

And Frozen 2 is telling it’s audience that the parents would be supportive? Then why would Elsa feel so anxious about using them and locking herself away for so long after her parents explicitly made changes to the staff, the access to the outside, and refusing to tell Anna about Elsa’s powers? Her actions didn’t come from nowhere. Their negative reaction to Elsa’s powers was a common occurrence.

In fact, that very same night where he looks on lovingly at Elsa’s ice magic, we hear Agnarr immediately placing blame on Elsa for an accident and exacerbating her trauma. This is a reprimanding that has been done before. Her ice powers were something to be hidden.

Agnarr: “Elsa, what have you done? This is getting out of hand.”

Elsa “It was an accident, (to Anna) I’m sorry Anna.”

Iduna: “She’s ice cold.”

Agnarr: “I know where we have to go.”

Does this sound like the same man and woman who, just hours earlier looked on with happiness at his child using her ice powers to play pretend with her sister? It really doesn’t.

King Agnarr and Queen Iduna specifically decide to “Lock the gates, reduce the staff, and limit her [Elsa’s] contact with people. Keep her powers hidden from everyone...including Anna.”

The filmmakers really pulled out all the stops in the sequel to make sure that all the pain and suffering Elsa went through was actually totally just her own decisions, and the not the decisions that her parents made for a young child.

I’m not going to lie, I get why they made so many changes. They wanted to expand on Iduna’s heritage and explain Agnarr’s view of magic without complicating the story too much.

But these morally gray elements to their characters and the revelations on their backstories didn’t need to be mutually exclusive. If the filmmakers held Agnarr and Iduna accountable, we could’ve had a very unique set of parents in disney canon.

Personally, I think that portraying them without the morally gray areas of their actions and having with an unambiguously supportive relationship with their children in Frozen 2 conflicts with their earlier actions. It makes the story flow a little bit better in the sequel to uncomplicate their relationship, but I think the way they set them up would’ve been interesting too.

Olaf’s Recap Removes the Parent’s Decision to Lock Elsa Away

I was also tipped off that the whole framing of the parents was being twisted when I saw Olaf’s recap in Frozen 2.

Olaf: [As Elsa] Anna, no too high! Blast! [a Anna] Ohhh! [as Elsa] Mama Papa Help! Slam, doors shutting everywhere, sisters torn apart. Well, at least they have their parents. [beat] Their parents are dead.

The way he describes the situation is bizzare to say the least. He doesn’t mention “conceal, don’t feel” even once. He mentions the parents positively, stripping their role in Elsa and Anna’s separation and only leaving it between the lines. I think this is because if they remind the audience about the things the parents did, the audience would have a harder time accepting their sudden support for Elsa’s powers.

If the parents actions weren’t controversial, then I think that they wouldn’t have this problem. But it’s like they went out of their way to make it appear that it was actually all Elsa’s decision to lock herself away instead of her parents expecting her to do so without protest.

It Was Iduna and Agnarr’s Decision to Isolate Elsa, Not Elsa Herself

When we really look into the specifics of Elsa’s isolation, we can’t ignore Iduna and Agnarr’s role. The only reason why Elsa became so secretive is because she was conditioned to do so by her parents.

How many times did Anna go to her parents and ask what was wrong with Elsa, only to be turned away to the point where she doesn’t bother anymore?

How could they look at this situation for more than a week, and just allow this to happen? Easily, because it was a solution that worked for them. It honestly looks like they got used to the situation after years of Elsa’s isolation.

Just look at the body language of Elsa’s farewell to her parents, Elsa is NOT happy. Unlike Anna, she remains a good distance away from them. She is nervous and sad without her parents to direct her.

This is reaction they are most likely expecting. Her parents smile on, almost as if to say “she’ll be ok for a couple of weeks, then we’ll be right back to normal and keep her in check.” It’s a reassuring smile, that things will go back to the way they were once they come back. And they don’t.

Elsa Hiding Things is Learned

Look man, I feel like Elsa should be held accountable for a lot of things. Abandoning her people, twice, in the middle of a storm she created. Not getting help for Anna when she was injured and kicking her out of the ice castle instead. All things she should get shit for.

However, I also think that her parents shouldn’t be let off the hook.

My other problem comes from Frozen 2′s emphasis on Elsa hiding things from Anna. The constant references to Elsa shutting Anna out, making decisions without her, would definitely lead a more casual viewer under the impression that it was all Elsa’s decision to lock herself away for years at a time when this simply wasn’t true.

On a meta note, I’ve seen people place all the blame on Elsa to lock herself away to in order to prop up her parents and give them the benefit of the doubt. That they were trying their best in a situation they didn’t have any knowledge of. However, this is an extremely inappropriate reaction to a character who is depicted as a child under the care of her parents.

I think that there is an intrinsic desire for people to believe the framing of movies, and that good intent creates good results. But the text of Frozen shows this isn’t true either. Iduna and Agnarr should be able to be morally gray characters who made decisions that aren’t always beneficial, even with the best intentions.

Elsa and Anna, like most siblings, have wildly different feelings toward them. For example, Anna insists to Elsa after finding out the truth about their death that she is not responsible for their decisions when Elsa blames herself.

On one hand, this seems to be an acceptance by the story that they were not perfect people and that Elsa needs to take into consideration that she is not responsible for their actions.

However, the way that this conversation is framed shows that this is a different conversation altogether. Anna means that they gave their lives to HELP Elsa, and that she is a gift for Iduna saving Agnarr. It martyrs their sacrifice, something that most fictional parents, who are portrayed as ultimately good, would be. They died to help her, because they were good parents who made good decisions.

They are Flawed Characters

But...they didn’t make good decisions. They were very flawed individuals. Once something is portrayed as flawed, it can’t be flawless. You can’t just dump their decisions on how they grew up, or say it’s all Elsa’s fault they treated her that way because mature writing means that you accept that your characters need to be held accountable for their decisions.

No matter how many sad looks they give to convey their sympathetic nature in Frozen, the reason Agnarr and Iduna used the gloves and kept Elsa in a constant state of fear so much was because it was working. It wasn’t a good long term plan, nor ideal for them, but it was the one they went along with because it kept Elsa’s powers in check.

I personally don’t like how the filmmakers made them the idea of parents. Iduna is the idea of a mother and Agnarr, the idea of a father. We are supposed to put fond memories of good parents into their characterization because they rely on audiences not really remembering them in the first movie. The biggest scene with them is their death in the original movie.

If they simply were just parents who died, then the characterization is Frozen 2 would be a welcome expansion of underdeveloped characters with little screen time.And within the vaccum of the sequel, their unconditional love for their daughters makes sense. If we place the generic idea of a mother into Iduna’s role, we get to know the mother who always loved her daughter finally reconnecting with her after her tragic death. With Agnarr we get a loving father who only wanted what was best for his daughters, who was misguided on the truth of the past.

But Iduna’s big duet with Elsa, “Show Yourself” only highlights the parents role in her involvement with making Elsa suppress her powers with “conceal, don’t feel” since it’s a direct response.

Agnarr’s misremembering of the past is used to highlight the truth that needed to be revealed. It’s portrayed as tragic, since we can assume he never learns the truth. And their treatment of Elsa’s powers is never brought up in detail, just glossed over.

Even Parents With the Best Intentions Can Hurt Their Children

The problem is that we could’ve really examined how Iduna, forced with suppressing her identity, made mistakes in trying to protect her daughter. Sometimes people from marginalized groups who have no choice but to assimilate force their children to hide their identity to protect them from harm.

Agnarr’s upbringing is often pointed to as the source of his extreme views on magic, and that he inherited it from his father. But ultimately he is responsible for his actions, and he hurt his daughters. Sometimes people who seek to do better than their parents end up making the same mistakes.

Maybe Iduna regrets hurting Elsa but felt it was a better alternative than being killed for who she is, or Agnarr so focused on protecting her he never realizes it was doing her more harm than good because it was controlling her and giving him the results he wanted.

This could’ve been parallel with his lack of critical thinking when recounting the enchanted forest story. He doesn’t question why the conflict started, even though he has the pieces to put it together himself. He told it in a way that benefited him the most, without considering the people around him.

Both parents could still be held accountable for the pain they caused Elsa and they would also be characters who inspire different feelings from both daughters. This could also be a turning point in Frozen 2′s theme that the sisters are on different paths.

Final Thoughts

Like I said, I understand why the filmmakers of Frozen 2 decided to tone down the harsher implications of the parents actions. And maybe in the end, people really prefer this version of Iduna and Agnarr. But I can’t really ignore what they’ve done because their actions permeate the very themes of Frozen’s views on love and control.

However, these are personal feelings toward this subject and I think it could’ve been handled a little better.

The Brother’s and movies

Lucifer

v Lucifer tells anyone who asks that he enjoys serious, dramatic movies set during the wartimes the type that get Oscar nominations but are quite intense and a little dull.

v Lucifer however holds a dirty little secret that his prideful nature will not allow him to outwardly share.

v He LOVES Christmas movies.

v The end of year holiday movie’s just alleviate all the stress in him. He is so happy while watching that he can barely keep the grin off his face.

v DO NOT watch Home Alone with him and Mammon. Lucifer every 2 minutes is mouthing off against Mammon stating that HE is the Kevin of the family.

v His favourite holiday movie is the Santa Clause.

v The holidays are so special to him and the movies just capture the atmosphere and joy he feels.

v He loves Christmas because he finally gets a break from his duties, he can have a fun little party with his beloved brothers and friends, he receives and gives meaningful gifts and even Satan is nice to him on Christmas.

v When you come to the Devildom you bet Lucifer is watching Love Actually with you and every single romantic Christmas movie so he can feel enjoy the warm fuzzy feelings assiociated with his favourite holiday with his beloved Y/n.

Mammon

v Before you came the Devildom Mammon solely watched hardcore triple X action movies. Unless on movie night with his brothers, then he’s forced to watch some boring artsy flick or some anime junk movie .*cough cough Levi*

v He was a total dudebro and loved PointBreak.He owns the full collection of the Fast and the Furious. What’s not to love with the live fast, die hard law breaker lifestyle?

v The man also lives for heist movies, Oceans 11? He has it memorised! He thinks about how HE would be a huge asset to the team and dreams about pulling off some high action super cool heist with you.

v When Y/n comes to the Devildom it is like a flip of a switch for Mammon.

v He says he can handle horror movies but you both know that’s a big fat lie so only insist on watching them if you wish to torture him.

v He will complain and insult your choices of chick flicks and romantic comedies but he is enraptured.

v HE LOVES it, he watches a couple of them in secret and daydreams about you and him as the main couple.

v This man wants to pull a Heath Ledger and serenade you to “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” in front of his brothers, Diavolo, RAD, heck even the whole Devildom.

v He is living for these romantic comedies and constantly tries to recreate his favourite cutesy moments with you. (Did he get you “special wishing sparkles” and told you to close your eyes and make a wish? Did he then give you a shy blushy kiss when you opened your eyes and say wish granted? Who knows that’s between you and him.)

v Oh and you bet he’s crying when the couple’s fight and cheering so hard when they finally get together. He can’t help it he’s a secret romantic. Don’t be so loud about it Y/n! He has a tough guy attitude to maintain.

Leviathan

v Anime movies. Need I go on?

v He has the Blu-ray special editions of Studio Ghibli movies and he loves watching them on rainy cold days snuggled under a blanket with you.

v He loves Ponyo for obvious water and fish related reasons. You guys have defiantly done cosplay photo shoots, he was Ponyo, you were Sosuke and Henry was the fishy sisters.

v Other than anime movie’s Levi is a 80’s movie aficionado. He has seen every 80’s movie. He particularly relates to the high school movies for the theme of the awkward nerdy guy getting the super cool, popular girl of their dreams.

v He does enjoy the nerdier comic book, big budget action movies, like Kick-Ass. He and Satan have faced off against each other regarding whether DC or Marvel movies are better. (He prefers the funny antics associated with Marvel plus he’s a Peter Parker fanboy)

v He also is a huge fan of any Edgar Wright movie since seeing Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. (He let out a Woaahhhh when he saw the comics)

v May Lord Diavolo have mercy upon you if the movie is a book or tv show adaption because Levi will not shut up during the movie. (He will pause the movie he’s not THAT inconsiderate.) You will not have a moment of peace after the movie has ended. He simply must share every single thought he had on what the movie did right and what the movie did wrong. Then he has to show you his fan casting list of who would better fit the roles and then just when you think it’s over he pushes you to re-watch the movie with him to listen to the director commentary.

v Levi will generally save his commentary for after the movie if you got to the movie theatre with him. Something about the change of atmosphere and the excitement that comes from the movie watching experience just puts him in a calmer less frantic mood and you can enjoy a simple quiet movie date for an hour or 2 before your ear will be talked off.

Satan

v DO NOT WATCH BOOK TO MOVIE ADAPTATIONS WITH HIM! HE IS WORSE THAN LEVI AND TWICE AS BRUTAL IN HIS CRITICS.

v Now that that fact is out of the way Satan is a mystery fan. He enjoys the cheesy who dunnit type movie’s especially if the detective solving the mystery is very cool and charismatic with a fun catch phrase.

v One that caught him of guard and quickly became his favourite was Knives Out. A clear mystery with a wacky bunch of characters all with misleading facts and motivations. Additionally he was thrown for a loop on the ending so he really enjoyed it for its unpredictability.

v Of course Satan enjoys DC movies I mean he and Levithan read the comics and he is a clear believer that the serious tone and consequence from DC makes them the far superior super hero franchise.

v Contrary to popular belief Satan does not like documentaries, he gets restless and bored watching them, but you keep putting on those boring long documentaries because it leads to a very steamy make out session with a slightly huffy Satan who had been complaining that his movie choice would have been much more enjoyable. v The double edged sword that comes from picking a documentary is that Satan will indeed make you suffer by making his pick a terrifying horror movie since he thinks you are oh so adorable when you’re frightened. He thinks it’s really cute when you ask him to walk you to the bathroom because you’re afraid of the big scary monsters and it’s even cuter to him when you throw your face into his chest and refuse to look until the scary scene is over. Haaa he cannot resist and must pat your head and give you a small peck.

Asmo

v When one watches a movie with Asmo, one does not simply see it, one lives it.

v Asmo loves 90s and early 2000s movies about the pretty popular girls because he lives to see their fabulous closets, outfits and their dewy supple skin. He’s a huge fan of Clueless, Legally Blonde and Bring It on.

v He also simply dies for those cult classic like, Mommie Dearest, Troop Beverly Hills, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Marie Antoinette, Death Becomes Her and many more. You guys put on face masks grab a couple of tasty cupcakes and start reciting the movies line for line bursting into giggles every time, that’s how many times you’ve seen them.

v Asmo gets the appeal of campy movie’s that have not been appreciated for their odd charm so when you come along you bet he’s going to be shouting out his favourite one liners and you fire the responses right back. He’s in love.

v What he loves most about the campy movies is the fabulosity and authenticity that comes from the movie’s just wanting to tell a great story and celebrate the oddities and dramatics of the characters. His favourites are the ones with drag queens particularly Priscilla Queen of the Desert, To Wong Foo and The Birdcage. How is he not meant to simply adore the beautiful wigs, costumes, the attitudes of the queens and the sharp, dry, witty humour.

v Big blockbuster wise Asmo is inclined to see any musical, and yes for 3 weeks straight he will sing the songs of the musical, much to the displeasure of his brothers but to the delight of you and Solomon who cheer him on and request encores. (Yes you all went to see Cats together, yes you dragged Satan along. Yes everyone but especially Satan was traumatised and yes Asmo did drape himself across every available surface in the House of Lamentation and belted out Memory for practically the whole Devildom to enjoy. Enough with the questions!)

v Asmo’s favourite musical is Rocky Horror Picture show, you have monthly viewings where Asmo dresses up as Frank en Furter and performs…well not for you more on top of you.

v Movies with Asmo are always fun treats, you both have a great time with each other and walk away from the movie’s feeling more emotional and closer with one another.

Beel

v Beel’s taste in movies is similar to his taste in food he is not picky and enjoys a wide variety.

v He enjoys mafia movies of any variety He likes the familial bond and the trust between members but does not enjoy the double crossing, it makes him feel sad.

v Other than that he lives for the lively mood, the Italian food, the dramatic situations and the action sequences.

v He has seen a few animated movies and his favourite is Brother Bear, it reminds him of him and Belphie and makes him soft.

v He does actually does like twin movies because the plots are always outlandish and funny to him at least.

v When it comes to movies where food is central to the plot, do not get him started. The amount of times you had to pause Ratatouille so he could get his 20th snack in the last 10 minutes was astonishing. He get’s extra hungry watching the movie but generally enjoys chatting to you about the food making process of each dish rather than paying attention to the plot. (You: Would you prepare food made by a rat? Him: Well I ate Solomon’s cooking once so even a rat’s cooking would be better than that)

v He loves to ask which dish would you eat when restaurant scenes come up because he’s curious of your taste while watching the movie and sometimes he’ll stop paying attention the movie and instead just watch your reactions.

v Generally speaking any movie suggestion he’s fine with as long as he gets to spend time with you and can binge on delicious movie snacks.

Belphie

v The total opposite of Beel, Belphie is a total film snob and will harshly berate your movie choice and say ‘You really made me stay awake for this crap fest.’

v He doesn’t mean to be mean (yes he does but he doesn’t like making you sad) he just has a very particular taste for movies and if he’s going to extend the effort to stay awake and pay attention he wants it to be worth his time.

v He is actually the one in the house who does enjoy documentaries. What can he say some habits die hard and he’s still a total Earth nut even though he human-phobic.

v Not to mention the gentle voice of David Attenbourough soothes him until he is just barely awake so when he finally drifts off he dreams of the wonderful parts of Earth and the miracles or nature.

v He is a fan of Shakespeare movies particularly the rich dark one’s that are a bit more violent. The atmosphere surrounding them just fits and the plot is a classic so why watch a cheap knock-off of what he has dubbed perfect writing.

v This man is an emo so of course he’s going to watch the slightly pretentious movies with poetry, his favourites are Dead Poets Society, The Crow and V for Vendetta.

v On movie nights he is selfish! He insists that you watch his movie first then he immediately falls asleep after it ends. He feels no shame over this.

v He hates twin themed movies, he thinks they’re cheap and over use the same gag of ‘Whoa they’re twins.’ (Sorry Mary-Kate and Ashley Belphie does not like you guys at all)

v He watches brother themed movies with Beel and gets really soft because he loves his twin so much.

v If you truly force him he will relent and watch your movie with you but he will make fun of it and bully you every second he is awake and the only way to silence him is to cuddle up close, let him lay his head on your chest or shoulder, massage his head or give him tons of kisses.

v Generally speaking a bad movie buddy but a great cuddle buddy for movie nights.

It’s been a few months and you guys miss each other, mostly fluff, one allusion to the deed (but not really)

word count: 1240

It’s hard sometimes, waking up in different cities, different countries, different continents.

I’m shooting in Massachusetts all through October. Fine, I’ll be in L.A. then, Eastern Romania in November, Brisbane for Christmas.

No one ever said that love was easy, especially not with schedules and distance in the way, so it was needless to say that you were quite proud of yourself. It had been four months since you’d last seen your boyfriend and now it was just one more week until January 3rd, the day of your big reunion. It’d be all laughs and smiles, your L.A. apartment, then his parent’s house in New York. Ten days of just the two of you, no meetings, no appointments, no work. But for now, you still had six days to get through, one hundred and forty-four hours without hearing his voice in person or smelling his cologne, one hundred and forty-four hours without his touch.

Brisbane’s your home, Christmas your favorite holiday, and yet you feel lonely because he isn’t here with you. It’s pathetic, you know that, but you can’t stop pitying youself. To be so far from the person closest to you, so excluded from his day to day life, yearning to share even the smallest parts of yours with him.

You met three years ago, introduced by Saoirse on a night out while the two were shooting Lady Bird and you were in the middle of rehearsals for Ready Player One. Just a few weeks and three dates later, you’d fallen for him, head over heels and whole-heartedly, smitten by his charm, his humor, his everything. He was your everything, but you were never in the same place for long, shooting movies all over, going on press tours, practically living on opposite sides of the world. But all of that would be temporarily forgotten in a few days, you’d be together and happy, and then it was just three more months until you finally moved to New York.

“It won’t make that much of a difference, but at least the time zones won’t be completely messed up. And we’ll be closer in distance, which is also a nice change,” Timmy had said once you announced your decision. “Exactly. And when I miss you too much I’ll just go see your parents. They’re much cooler than you anyways.” You’re not wrong about that, darling.

Lissy stepped inside the sun room, phone in hand. You perked up. “Someone called three times. Bet it’s the same someone that broke the internet last week?”

“I’d be disappointed if it wasn’t,” you laughed, taking the phone from your sister. That, the part about Timmy breaking the internet, already had your breath turning heavy. He’d posted a picture, taken the year that you had spent Christmas together at his parent’s house, your back facing the camera but head turned over your shoulder, biting down on a truffle with a mischievous glance in your eyes, Timmy on the couch behind you, holding his arms out in preparation for an embrace. Moments after, you’d dropped into his grasp, shared the treat with him, cracked a joke or two. For now, till you come home to me, that had been the caption and you had cried about it on facetime, neither joyful nor miserable, just overwhelmed with gratitude.

You spoke on the phone for a bit, talking about the Christmas celebrations and family outings. All the good food and generous gifts.

“Granny Stokes got Lissy a popcorn maker, honestly the best idea ever, but she made us watch Titanic last night, much to the dismay of my dad. Did you like the present Pauline got for you?”

“I knew you were behind that! She insisted that she came up with the idea, but you were the only one I told about that brand.”

You grinned to yourself, tracing the sequined cushion on you parent’s couch. “My bad. Judging by the amount of pictures you sent me on Instagram I thought that you couldn’t shut up about it in real life too. But it’s time for them to get recognized, their tees are the best.”

Something rustled on the line. “Are you outside?”

“No, just closing the window. It’s so cold in New York, you’d probably freeze to death,” Timmy said, his voice far from the speaker. You bit your lip. “Well, I’d have you to warm me up, wouldn’t I?”

There was more noise, then he was back on the phone. “Hey, quick question. Have you found an outfit for your mom’s theme party?”

“I could basically wear everything, but I think I’ll go for shorts and a checkered button-down. Apparently Glamping’s much more about the decoration anyways and my mom went super overboard, I’m not kidding. It’s even more serious than last year’s flamingo luau. She’s got tipis and shit.”

Timmy laughed slightly and you straightened up on the couch, delighting in the softness of him. “Can’t wait to see the pictures.”

“And what about you? Everything settled for New Year’s Eve?”

“Yeah, basically,” he said, then paused. “My mom’s making potato salad for dinner and I’m going out with Phil and the lot.”

You grimaced at his tone. He sounded less than excited, tired even. A glance at your watch and you knew it was two am in New York.

“I just really miss you, love. Wish I could spend some time with you, have you in my arms.”

“‘S not that long till the 3rd, baby.”

He whined, kind of, and even though it was endearing, you had to laugh a bit. “But I miss you too, if that helps.”

“Hmm. Makes it worse, actually.”

“Okay, one last try then,” you said quietly, murmuring almost, and hoped that Lissy was well out of earshot. “I have something just for you. It’s hidden in the back of my closet and I think it might get me in trouble. Like real trouble, if you know what I mean.”

“Babe,” he said, amused, “Did you go on another La Perla splurge?”

You frowned. “Wow, Timothée. You’re ruining all my fun.”

“Just trying to keep it all together here.”

A small smile formed on your lips, a tingle in your stomach. “What, miss me so much that we can’t even have phone sex?”

“It’s called anticipation, love. Some things are worth waiting for.”

You scoffed playfully, but your smile became wide, almost hurtful. “Well, my mom warned me. You’re way too fucking sweet.”

“Some might even say romantic.”

“Or cheesy.” Sarcasm dripped from your voice, but it was just teasing. You were always on board with romance, corny or not, and your hands were already becoming sweaty at the thought of reuniting with Tim.

“Whatever it is, I don’t remember you complaining,” he remarked, sounding half-asleep. You imagined him tucked in bed in his apartment, wearing thick pyjamas and wrapped in blanket upon blanket while you were in shorts and tank, tan lines on your torso from countless hours on the beach.

“Timmy?”

“Yeah?”

You laid on your back, closed your eyes.

“I love you.”

He paused and you listened to him breathe, yearning to be beside him, in his arms, feeling him on your skin, his breath, his warmth, his hands. Six days to go, one hundred and forty-four hours. Less than a full week and you’d finally be able to kiss him.

“I love you too.” His voice was barely above a whisper and your heart ached. “Can you stay on the phone until I fall asleep?”

It’s hard sometimes, waking up in different cities, being so far from the person you’re closest to.

“Of course, baby.”

But some things are worth the wait.

I hate doctor 11 but ive never been able to explain why in like words lmao. He feels like such a mary sue character imo and like theres something about his characterisation that was always just really ineffective (like the stuff about fishfingers and custard or whatever it was). Imo i'd love to hear you give top 5 worst things about the 11 era because i rlly just love when it gets torn apart

i hold nothing but a seething contempt and loathing for that man. every time he appeared on screen i felt ready to snap like a riled up chimpanzee in my enclosure. i am frothing at the mouth and overcome with a desire to start flinging heavy objects. this might be incoherent and inconsistent but i started this rewatch in feb 2020 and only finished this week so i got through 11′s episodes last august/september time and i refuse to revisit it to jog my memory or fact check anything i’m saying here because this man does not deserve the space in my mind for that.

the first thing is i can’t fucking STAND the quirky whimsy timey wimey bit he has going on all of the time. i can’t even say this is because this is a kids show and i was a teen and then adult when i first properly watched him but actually!! when i was eleven years old i’d sleep over at a friend’s house most weekends and it always coincided with the airing of a new season 5 episode and i remember we watched the finale with the dumb time hopping to get out of the box prison that was never explained and didn’t make sense and i thought at the time “this is really stupid”. and before that my only other doctor who exposure was watching the david tennant christmas specials with another friend and throughout childhood my only opinion on doctor who was “this is a tv show that is not for me but is one that all the boys i am friends with like so i will put up with it to maintain our friendships” but at least those episodes were both suspenseful and engaging enough to keep me watching all the way through. like who the fuck does an end of the world sci fi plot and approaches it with an “oopsy woopsy i am a funny little alien man who is going to stop you all by making you do a hecking silly” like it’s unneeded and self-parodies an already cheesy show to the point where it becomes unwatchable and makes it impossible to ever take this man seriously.

next thing that downright sucks ass so badly is the stupid fucking overwritten constantly escalating plotlines. like everything from season 5 up until his regeneration at the end of season 7 is meant to be this grand interconnected cosmic plot about how...the doctor trying to bring back his planet will end the universe or something so all the top powers across all of reality tried again and again to stop him from doing that except he doesn’t know what’s going on so he keeps thwarting these people who supposedly mean good?? i mean i sure don’t fucking know what they were trying to say!! like for some reason we never get the doctor suddenly becomes this superdemon that threatens everything so these people (whoever they are) decide to, in sequence: suck him through a time rift to erase him from existence, trap him in a prison and remake a universe without him, take his companion’s baby and turn her into a perfectly trained doctor killer, form two(!!) secret societies to hunt him throughout history that are only stopped by his companion splintering herself across his personal timeline to protect him, and repeatedly cause reality collapsing events because it’s a kinder outcome for the universe than what he will do. this grand and terrible event turns out to be...he spends a few hundred years chilling by a rift that leads to his home planet and protects a few generations of children from monsters which convinces them to give him infinite regeneration power then fuck off back to their pocket universe. and it’s like!! what is the point of anything that happens in this man’s era when everything is always “the darkest moment” or whatever the fuck!! i don’t care!! we never get a compelling reason to believe this bumbling clown of a man could ever be a universal threat!! the whole thing is so dumb i hate it!!!

thing number three i hate is how the eleventh doctor is ALSO characterised as this abrasive egotistic male supergenius to the point where he becomes genuinely indistinguishable from bbc sherlock. genuinely who enjoyed seeing this guy constantly tell people their tiny human minds can’t comprehend what he’s doing and then basically just wave his magic wand to solve whatever problem each episode is facing. 2012 is the year of human sin because this fucking shitsmear character archetype somehow became both a redditor role model AND a tumblr sexyman and it’s like!! nobody is enjoying this stop making this seem cool! him saying timey wimey thing any time he does anything is frustrating and dumb and locks the viewer out of giving a fuck about anything that is happening! smartest man in the room syndrome is a disease and the eleventh doctor is terminal with it. like remember how they established river as an accomplished scientist (when she wasn’t being a child soldier or a time paradox or whatever the fuck) and every time that came up mr doctor eleven man was like “oh this thing is obvious because i’m a genius and you didn’t realise because your brain is tiny so get out of the way and let the grownups think” or that time it turned out amy had been replaced with a slime clone for half the season and the doctor chewed rory (audience surrogate) out for somehow not realising this fact we didn’t know right from the start and like. this served no purpose other than to draw into severe question why the doctor is also this super beloved magical figure implicitly trusted by all children everywhere like. mr steven moffat is totally allergic to writing and solving mysteries in his tv show and fuck you for wanting to figure things out as you go along based on the new evidence you uncover at strategic plot intervals just let this asshole man use magical thinking to reveal he knew the answer all along and you’re a fucking idiot for not also realising this thing which had no basis or precedent anywhere else in the show.

speaking of dumb things let us not forget the absolute shitshow that was minority representation in this era. i’m not even talking about the low hanging fruit of how genuinely unironically sexist amy and clara were written where each episode moffat either seemed to loathe them or was incredibly horny over them and they had no character growth or arc or fucking anything. i’m talking about how fucking shit terrible the incidental representation was. god remember how every single fucking gay person who appeared in this era was written as one incredibly fucking stupid joke and how the women were all either sexy dominatrix, feeble girl in love, or Mother (or all three in some really terrible cases) and i’m not qualified to talk about this but also how incredibly white this era was and how on two separate occasions we had monarchs reimagined as sexy girlbosses with a gun played by black women who the doctor leched over. nothing about any of this was good ESPECIALLY coming off the back of rtd who was surprisingly forward thinking for 2005 and did a really good job of positing travel with the doctor as queer allegory. in comparison moffat gave us THE MOST heterosexual shlock i’ve ever had to endure. amy and rory could have been interesting characters were they not hemmed into this domestic bickering young straight married couple bullshit that was in no way changed or altered by traveling with the doctor except for the quasi incestuous river song reveal that was dumb and bad and stupid.

the last major mega gripe i have with the series is moffat’s fucking jingoistic boner for british military aesthetics. this carried over throughout his entire tenure as showrunner but was super terrible vomit inducing in eleven’s era. the unironic admiration for ww2 britain and winston churchill is downright wretched. are you incapable of telling a second world war story outside of churchill’s london and plucky blitz fighters. shit gives me hives so badly. and then!!! that weird church owned army that features in the future that end up being bad not for the concept of what basically amounts to an imperialistic intergalactic rendition of the fucking crusades but because they’re part of the nonsense go nowhere puzzlebox narrative that says the doctor is a not good man who will do bad things to the universe :(. remember how rtd’s doctor was a freshly traumatised man hot off the war criminal press who time and time again vehemently refuses to engage in military violence, but who tragically inadvertently turns every one of his companions into soldiers in his own personal army, and he has this moment of complete horror at the realisation and it is this which causes the downward spiral that ends in 10′s regeneration. and then how there’s this cringe line about how there’s a force of people who are “the doctor’s army, always ready to fight his battles when he’s not around” or some shit and then it turns out this is actually massive literal military operation and we’re meant to celebrate this. fuck off.

bonus round because this needs to be said but i have never hated anything like i hated that fucking human tardis episode. everything about it induced violent anger in me from the sickening overindulgence of that softgoth dark whimsy helena bonham carter tim burton aesthetic to the bafflingly terrible evil carny stereotype of those junk scavengers to the overblown sudden tragic shipbait romance of human tardis and the doctor. every word out of her mouth was trite shit and the fact that the death of her body was presented as this super emotional dramatic scene despite there being no buy in or incentive to care and the fact that every single person on tumblr in 2012 ate that shit up like it was fucking gourmet. i loathe every single thing about that episode so much.

JANAAAAAA!“ A parade of voices outscreaming themselves erupted at the new little video screen popping up on their online chat, as the familiar face of their abroad living friend appeared.

She looked hilarious, wide eyed, absolutely overwhelmed, and even leaning away from her camera, as she laughed: „Good god, guys. I thought Jens was the boy, or better man, of the day. Not me.“

„Well we were just discussing our rescue mission to get you back home from still Trump Country.“ Luca said conspiratorial, as she whispered at short distance into her mic, making her sound a little asmr-ish and that much better.

„Also we can see or talk to Jens every day, we already sang him happy birthday, so you are more special.“ Robbe added, sticking his tounge out, as Sander grinned, raising his thumb in support. Jens rolled his eyes at them, giving them his middlefinger in return.

„Fuck you guys.“ He added without meaning it in the slightest. It was his birthday party chat, but he really didn’t mind their taunting, calling him an old man, leaving Milan and Senne to stick up to him. The real friends here in the group, Jens would make sure to remember that.

„So how is my birthday boy today?“ Jana asked smiling brightly as she looked as beautiful as ever, her hair a little shorter. He liked it, it looked very good on her. He wondered if she would ever leave his heart, and if they would have found each other again, hadn’t she moved away.

Jens had Lucas now though, and the thought that he may not even had considered the boy, was unimaginable. Or worse he could have nonetheless fallen for him, while being with Jana... A much scarier thought reminding him of his end with Britt, something he definitely didn’t need to revisit. So he smiled at her and kept it short: „Pretty great actually, I thought I would hate not having a party, but I really enjoy celebrating in bed in my comfy home clothes.“

I also got kissed by the prettiest boy on earth and slept like a baby for the first time in weeks.

Jens never said it out loud, but he couldn’t help his smile from growing, as did his heart in his chest planning to escape, just thinking about the morning. Both of them awake once the alarm went off, staying in bed another couple of minutes in a lazy cudlle, pecking kisses at heach other. God it was too cheesy and he loved every moment of it. Lucas had changed clothes, just as fast as Jens, as the boy had hurried out of the house to get home, while Jens panicked to get everything done on his agenda. They had spent a little too long in bed.

Jens would welcome the stress back every morning, if Lucas would promise to show up on his doorstep every time the clock struck midnight.

„Jens?“ Aaron asked amused, waving his hand in front of the camera to get his attention back. He may have drifted off there a bit.

„Sorry, what?“

„Milan said, you have to come by tomorrow because he is not gonna have you spent a birthday without getting a cake and blowing out a candle with a party hat on.“ Senne provided as an explanation, but the only thing happning in Jens’s brain was the image of Lucas last night. Fuck this boy was taking over his mind way too fast.

„Yeah I think that’s fine. It’s not like we have to make it toddlersafe.“ Milan said already looking excited of having the little girl over too. Until now, they only ever had visited the flatshare one time back in February and only for an hour or two, usually they met at Jens’s place.

„Shit Babe, that means we have to finish his present today.“ Robbe exclaimed a bit too panicked for it to be a joke. His boyfriends eyes widned, as he looked at Robbe in shock. „Jens, is it too late to say it is for christmas?“

„Pretty much, yes, it better be amazing, or I’ll cancel this friendship.“

„Oh I forgot, fuck!“ Luca suddelnly loudly announced getting off of her chair and stumbling out of frame her voice still being picked up by the mic: „Let me just turn the speaker on.... Wait...wait... Okay! I know it is not the best time given election. Yikes! But we are all together in chat since Jana moved, soooo.“

One note was all that was needed for the group to immediatly loose it.

Milan joining in instantly as if he had waited his whole life for this moment. Sander following suit, next to Robbe fishing for his phone. He was definitely going to record his boyfriend for leverage. Or because it was Sander singing, to Robbe even Sander breathing was worthy of adoration.

By the time they reached the jay-z line leading up to the chorus, they all had giving up their resistance and begun to sing whole heartedly, between giggles, dancing and messing up on words and notes. Any music teacher listening in would let them all fail class. No questions asked.

„Yeah it's a party in the USA“

Ending in a big crecsendo before all 11 voices fell silent, as they looked at each other and proceeded to burst into laughter.

„I miss you guys sooo much.“ Jana cried, hugging her laptop. All they saw was a black screen for a long minute, before she sat back, grinning: „Though I am dating this super hot guy from Geography. Like he is an absolutely idiot, but he is very cute and super gorgeous looking.“

„So American Jens?“ Yasmina said as dry and confident, that Jens was pretty sure she meant it. At least a little. Much to their friends’s amusement.

„Ey! This is my birthday, you can’t be mean on my birthday.“ He pretended to be offended, yet smirked at her, as soon as her lips curled up into a big smile, her eyebrows risen up high.

„She’s got a point though, bro.“ Moyo laughed, lucky that he wasn’t near enough to be hit by Jens, who raised his hands.

„Alright, alright. I definitely gonna have to find new friends now, that’s for sure.“

„No! You are a cute idiot, our cute idiot.“ Zoe chimed in, absolutely delighted and Jens couldn’t really ever be mad at that girl, so he sighed, accepting his fate. It wasn’t exactly that they were very off anyway, he supposed.

„Well whatever, I actually wanted to let you know that I decided to apply to University in Antwerp, Brussel, Utrecht and Rotterdam, so hopefully I can move back next summer. I talked to my mom, and she isn’t the biggest fan of her daughter being so far away, but she knows how I hated moving here. I guess she feels guilty and I’m gonna take full adventage of that.“

An amount of variations of „seriously“ to „are you joking?“ Filled the chat to a point it all merged into a single distorted sound for a good couple of minutes. Jens joining right in. They all wanted her back, especially the girls.

It was Amber who than took the conversation over, completely leading them onto a new topic, one that Jens should have seen coming, but kinda hoped wouldn’t be turned into a big deal. But obviously it, would be, as Jana had seen their insta posts and the last vlog from wednesday.

„That means you get to meet Lucas! That would be so cool, he is also from Utrecht, maybe he could help you out with it. We should invite him for the next time.“

„Oh right, tell me all about him, I’m ready. Someone’s dating him? Because if not I’m calling dips.“

Jens had to use everything in him, to keep himself from snorting, laughing or commenting, giving away any knowledge he possesed. But having his ex lusting after the boy he kissed last night, was the funniest shit ever.

No one seemed to notice though, as they all went full in, describing everything they knew about the poor absent dutch boy. Not able to defend himself.

Jens leaned back and enjoyed every second of it.

it’s ty track!!! and he’s sitting on an office chair in some kind of conference room

“today is...january 17”

“we’re actually preparing for our comeback but today’s our day off,,,so i thought we should do something special for taehee’s birthday!!”

“it’s not her birthday today, but come to think of it, we never did something really special for her on her birthday”

“her birthday’s two days after christmas, so either we’re super busy, or at home with our families. even as trainees we didn’t get to celebrate properly with her”

taeyong’s looking down and there’s like a guilty aura around him

it makes czennies’ hearts hurt

“we brought her out to restaurants and she’s told us countless times of how she’s greatful for it,,,but i just thought we should give her something more special”

then his mouth lifts up into a smile as if he’s trying to lighten the mood up

“we were watching this movie one time and there was like a big party held for the main lead,,it was like a coming of age party- what was it called again? cotillion? is it cotillion?,” then he brings his phone out to check

“so it’s called a cotillion!! and i was sitting next to her and i heard that she kept mumbling how pretty and cute it was”

taeyong mimicked her, “she was like ‘ahh that’s so pretty”

“‘i kinda want one’ she said”

“so yesterday i thought, ‘oh? we can do a special party for taehee tomorrow!!’”

then taeyong stands up and walks out of the room, and the only thing you can see is the ceiling and the bottom of his face

then before you can even see the practice room you could already hear the chaos in it

taeyong laughs at them, “see?”

and everyone’s all over the place

haechan and doyoung are fixing the letter balloons on the wall, along with the fairy lights underneath them

jaehyun and jungwoo are in the corner writing some speech for the party

yuta’s also writing on a banner but in a different corner

johnny scattering rose petals around the room

then taeil beckons jungwoo over near the speaker to work on a dance number

and mark is standing in the middle of it all in a phase of confusion before running out of the room, “I NEED TO GET A GUITAR”

the camera points back to taeyong, “honestly, we didn’t put that much thought into the planning and just went for it,” he giggles

“AS LONG AS ITS FROM THE HEART,” johnny passes by and sprinkles petals on taeyong, making him laugh

he walks over to doyoung who has his hands on his hips, “how’s it going here?”

“hAECHAN WONT LISTEN TO ME! HE KEEPS INSISTING TO PUT ‘BIRTHDAY HAPPY’ INSTEAD OF THE NORMAL WAY. WHY DID I HAVE TO GO WITH HIM INSTEAD OF PREPARING THE SPEECH WITH JAEHYUN??”

“SHE’S GONNA LIKE THIS MORE THAN PLAIN BORING ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY’!!! WHAT ARE WE? AMATEURS??”

“BUT ITS GONNA RUIN THE MOOD”

taeyong walks away from them, smiling, and moves over to taeil and jungwoo by the speaker, “how bout you guys? what are you up to?”

“actually, we haven’t found a song...yet,” taeil points to the camera, “but it’s gonna blow your mind”

jungwoo makes an explosion noise for added effect, then realizes taeyong was filming

“oh are you filming? hello, taehee!!,” he says in aegyo, “i love you very very very much and i hope you like this surprise!! mwah ٩(^‿^)۶”

taeyong calls jungwoo cute before moving on to the next person, jung jaehyun

“how long is it now?”

“i’ve got one paragraph in but it’s just short, really. jungwoo and i put some cheesy lines in there because you know how much she loves those”

“really? give me one,” taeyong moves the camera closer to jaehyun and the latter licks his lips and runs his hand through his hair

“people say the happiest place on earth is disneyland,” he read from the paper, “but clearly, they haven’t been next to you”

“EYYYY,” taeyong cheers, “isn’t it too corny though? HAHAHA”

“the fact that it is would make her like it more,” jaehyun says confidently

“alright,” the older laughs, “okay, our last stop...yuta!!!”

he sets the camera on the floor and you see yuta’s concentrated face directed towards the banner, sharpie marker in hand

“are you almost done?,” taeyong asks, sitting beside him

“not really, i still need to make it prettier”

“what did you write?,” taeyong lets out a hearty laugh before yuta even answers, making the latter chuckle too

“ahh you guys are so cheesy with this- are you sure we’re not going too overboard?”

“when it comes to taehee, nothing is ever overboard. that girl laughs at anything, really”

then video cuts to them working and finishing on the banner

you hear a guitar being strummed here and there, mark must be back in the room

a few cuts of the video shows taeyong and yuta drawing on the banner, while jungwoo and hyuck make their appearance just to make faces on the camera

you hear the door opening and it immediately catches yuta and taeyong’s attention

“taehee’s done with her shoot, she’s on the way here right now. you have about 30 minutes,” must be their manager

there was a slight commotion behind cam while taeyong’s getting all giddy and bouncing on the floor, “aaaa we need to get this done”

video cuts to haechan in a black tuxedo, somewhere in a makeup room, “this is haechan of haechan cam with 37.5% viewer ratings ( ^ω^ )”

mark complains in the background but hyuck ignores him anyway

“as you can see, we’re all wearing suits because we’re going to hold a cotillion? cotillion for taehee”

he shows off his suit and he looks so good in it he slays every outfit haechan model wbk

mark wanders into frame and poses too

jungwoo joins in and he and hyuck do weird poses, making mark laugh loudly and hit them

the scene is cut to taeyong, now wearing his tux and walking to the middle of the room

“okay guys gather around! let’s go through the plan one last time”

they all stand around taeyong, although they have heard this plan about once or twice, they’re still attentive to listen

“taehee walks through that door and taeil hyung is the only one in the room, holding a rose- you all have your roses right?”

“yESsSS”

“okay, music is already a given so taeil hyung will dance with her first, alright?”

“let’s give a minute or two for you guys to say anything you wanna say to her while you dance,” doyoung cuts in

“great, that’s a nice idea! anyways, uhh we go by age order, meaning haechan is last. haechannie, when the music stops you blindfold her and lead her to the conference room, got it?”

the blindfold part makes mark laugh, “is that really necessary?”

“for the effect mark, it’s for the effect,” johnny tells him

“so right after we dance with her we head to the conference room, right?,” yuta asks taeyong

“yes. so when they’re in the conference room already, haechan takes the blindfold off and then mark you’re playing the guitar, right? i think it would be nice if that would be our opening”

“oh okay okay”

“then after mark plays his song, taeil and jungwoo’s dance?”

“and me, i’m doing it with them”

“jOHNNY HYUNG LEARNED THE DANCE?”

“no, we should have jaehyun’s speech first, then the dance,” that’s doyoung again

“okay, so speech first then the dance. after the dance, she blows the cake? and then closing remarks?”

they were the last ones to get in their suits since they were finishing the banner, so taeyong didn’t get to think about what they would actually be doing

yuta and taeyong look at each other before a knowing look spreads upon their faces

taeyong and yuta, simultaneously: “you wanna become backup dancers for mark?”

“HAHAHAHAHA,” they laugh as yuta goes to give taeyong a half hug

“boys! taehee and her manager are in the parking lot, they’ll be heading up soon”

taeyong whines, “AAAAAAAA OKAY, so individual couple dances, then conference room, mark’s guitar- me and yuta are the backup dancers, jaehyun’s speech, taeil, jungwoo, and johnny’s dance, blowing of the cake, and then doyoung’s closing speech”

“yOU FORGOT MARK AND HAECHAN’S SPECIAL MESSAGES!”

taeyong said it so fast almost nobody caught what he was saying

then the video fades to black

you could hear heels click against the floor and then the door of the practice room is opened

the only light comes from outside and you could see the silhouette of taehee and her manager

“i go in?”

“yeah”

“but the lights are off! (；＿；)”

“it’s okay, they’ll turn on soon. just don’t open the lights, okay?”

“aaaa you’re scaring me,” she goes inside and the manager closes the door slowly

taehee’s bundle of nerves go away when the fairy lights turn on slowly

the lights are bright just enough to reveal her smile and taeil standing on the opposite side, holding a rose

a slowed version of every breath you take by the police starts playing as taeil walks over to her

meanwhile, taehee’s openly cringing on her side and questioning what was happening

“aAAAAAndjakd wHat’S tHis?”

she laughs when taeil does a polite curtsy and hands her the rose

she thanks him for it while taeil puts his hand out for her to take

and once their hands are together, taeil guides taehee’s other hand, the one holding the rose, to his shoulder and puts his hand on her waist carefully

taehee smiles because of their height difference

almost non-existent

“taeil oppa, what’s this for?,” she chuckles

“can’t you read? it’s for your birthday,” taeil teases her

he nudges his head to the side and that’s when taehee reads ballon letters spelling out ‘birthday happy’

she giggles again

“but it’s not my birthday though...?”

“we kind of felt sad that we do nothing special for your birthday....i’m not implying something bad but we just wanted to do it for you”

“ahh,” taehee nods

taeil remembers the time limit doyoung set for them and sweats nervously

‘ahh the cringe’ he thought

“i’m gonna say something alright?”

“go on”

“uhh remember how nervous you were? before debut?”

“yeah...”

“you were the most nervous out of all of us, and i felt that. i understood you,,,so i want you to know now that you are and will be forever part of this team. the reason why you’re here is because of your talent and skills, okay? everyone knows how hard working and selfless you are, so you deserve it. don’t mind what the others say, yeah? we’re always here for you, i want you to remember that”

and taehee’s heart is swelling

she and taeil never got to do any of those deep, heart to heart talks

and this just makes her go more uwu at taeil

“yeah,” she mumbles, “i will”

taeil smiles and thinks his time is up, so he makes taehee twirl in her place before hugging her and moving out of the room

johnny was the one next to enter the room

and he was just doing some kind of waltzing from the door to taehee it really made her laugh

“this is for you, milady,” he hands her the rose

“thank you, noble sir”

johnny leads her like how taeil leaded her hands, but because of the height difference, taehee’s hand rests on johnny’s upper arm instead of his shoulder

“were you surprised?,” johnny asks

“yeah, really. i thought i could just eat or watch a movie with you guys when i get home haha”

“do you like it so far”

“of course,,,this is much much better than food or a movie”

johnny raises his brow at her, just in time for her to ask, “but is there really food though?”

he chuckles, “of course, what’s a party without food right?”

a few moments pass with them just swaying to the song, both of them enjoying the ambience of the room

“are you,,are you gonna say something like taeil oppa?”

“hmm i was thinking i would, but i think i’ve told you everything i wanted you to know”

that’s right

johnny and taehee’s relationship was like this from the beginning

whenever taehee did something johnny was proud of, he would tell her straight away

and the same goes for johnny

taehee felt like johnny could read her whenever he wanted, but that was like a silent agreement between them

“i mean, if that’s okay with you,” johnny continues

“of course,” she smiles up at him

they sway again for a few moments, she and johnny singing along to the lyrics from time to time

johnny gives taehee a spin, “im just gonna say again that i’m very thankful, and proud of you taehee. you’re the best”

that was the last thing johnny said before he exited the room, leaving a dimpled smile on taehee’s face

the next song comes on, and it makes her cringe so hard she crouches to the floor in her heels

the next person who comes in has the same reaction as her, letting out a little shout before entering the room

as christina perri’s a thousand years continue to play in the practice room, taeyong composes himself and gives taehee a rose, a wide smile on both of their faces

“do you like it so far?,” taeyong asks her once their hands are in place

taehee nods excitedly before realizing the look in taeyong’s eyes, “you planned this, didn’t you?”

“yeah,” they both laugh

“i heard you say you wanted something like this when we were watching a movie the other day, so i thought why not”

“ahh”

“im sorry we couldn’t give you the best birthdays for the past years,” taeyong frowns

“it’s okay,” she squeezes his hand, “as long as you guys are there with me, i’m already happy”

she makes taeyong laugh, “i’m serious!! it sounds cheesy but i mean it!!”

“i know, i know. i was just flustered”

taehee playfully rolls his eyes at him, “you’re always flustered”

“couldn’t you have at least given me a tiny heads up? you guys are dressed in suits and i’m just wearing a simple dress haha”

“you’re pretty in whatever you wear, taehee. we just wanted to make this really special for you”

taehee pouts at him and her eyes water a bit, “stop saying that or you guys are gonna make me cry- you know how i cry easily!”

taeyong laughs as she continues, “taeil oppa had a message for me and johnny oppa was so sweet and you’re so sweet,,all of you are”

“don’t cry,” taeyong chuckles, “you’re still a baby”

and taehee was trying to act cute to keep her tears from falling

she is babie we must protect

“i want you to live a healthy life,,i want you to be happy always. i’m so proud of you, okay taehee? i’m very thankful for you”

taehee nods, playfully she adds, “the music’s making me cry also- who’s playlist is this?”

“jungwoo and haechannie set it up”

taehee giggles

she knows the next member is gonna come in soon when taeyong removes his hands from their place and opens his arms for a hug

they share a tight warm hug until taeyong rubs her shoulder and they both let go

“thank you,” she tells him

a few moments tick by and yuta is already in the room

looking as handsome as ever

with that award winning healing smile of his

instead of doing it like the first three, yuta wraps both of taehee’s arms around his neck and pulls her closer by the waist until his head is on her shoulder

she laughs softly and yuta asks, “how’s your schedule? did you have fun?”

“it was fun! i took photos with ice cream so that’s a bonus”

they weren’t swaying like the other three, no

more like waddling

you know how dads make their toddlers stand on their feet and they waddle when they walk

that’s like yuta and taehee except she’s not standing on his feet

she’s wearing heels ouch that would’ve hurt

taehee hums and pulls away a bit later, making eye contact with yuta

“you kind of remind me of my dad”

yuta smiles amusingly, “really?”

“yeah,,,the way you both act around me. you’re like a dad”

“i am?”

“no, wait actually i’d rather have you as an older brother than my dad. but yes you are like my dad,,in some way or another”

yuta chuckles again before taehee puts her head back on yuta’s shoulder

“this is nice,” she comments

“mhmm”

yuta knows his time is almost up, he lets out a sigh

“thank you”

“hm?,” taehee hums

“for simply existing. i admire your presence and i want us to be friends for a long time, until we have our families and until we’re old. you’re a great person, taehee. thank you”

yuta pulls away and he sees a tear slip down taehee’s face making him giggle, “why are you crying?”

he’s mocking her, and she knows

“i cry easily, what else!,” she laughs

but she laughs harder when yuta pulls out a tissue from his suit pocket

“here,” they’re both laughing at this point

“you knew i would cry!!”

“you’re a baby ヽ(´ー｀),” he pats her head

yuta lets out a breath from laughing with taehee, “i’m gonna go now”

the latter pouts and she goes into his arms to give him a hug, “thank youuu”

“i love you!! mwah!,” yuta gives her a heart and he’s out the door

another slowed version of a song plays, and this time it’s one of taehee’s favorite songs

somebody else by the 1975

“your fifth rose is here!,” doyoung says when he enters the room

taehee smiles as he walks closer, handing her the rose and swaying with her like the first three did

“oppa, you look handsome in a suit,,both angles”

“i know,” he tells her jokingly

“you’re thinking about the food aren’t you?,” doyoung reads her

“is there cake?”

“of course, we got chocolate. there’s also 자장면,” doyoung smiles widely when he notices a glint in taehee’s eyes when he metioned 자장면

“when did you prepare all of this?,” taehee asks, amazed

“i think taeyong had this idea since last night, right when you left we already started preparing ( ◠‿◠ )”

“i like it. it warms my heart, really”

“i’m glad you like it then,” doyoung smiles

“you’re eating your meals, right?”

but its her ‘birthday’ so mark just laughs it off

he licks his lips before telling her not to cringe

and she's somewhat got an idea of what he's gonna do, so she nods and giggles anyway

mark: *clears his throat* are you from seoul?

taehee, giggling: why?

mark: because i think you're my seol-mate

they both laugh, “okay thats kinda good, i like it”

“kinda good?”

“yea you need to get to my level mr. mark lee”

then theres a sudden knock on the door which startles the both of them

“thats haechan, isn't it”

“sadly,” they both laugh

at this point czennies are convinced that they are twins

like the timing of when they looked at the door?? so in sync

so before mark leaves, he opens his arms for a hug, ruffling her hair when they part

and alas, a wILD DONGHYUCK APPEARS ＼(＾▽＾)／

unlike the others, hyuck immediately wraps his arms around taehee’s shoulders and pulls her into a tight hug

laughing, she wraps her arms around his waist and leans her head on his shoulder

“i love you,” hyuck starts as he sways the both of them

“...if we’re still unmarried by the time we retire, i'll marry you okay?”

“you’re still on about that?,” taehee chuckles

“we’re marrying each other,” he says when she doesn't answer

he pulls away and theres this look of disbelief in his face

like you know that face when he's teasing the members

its like that uwu he's so cute i love him

“you don't..you don't know what it smells like?”

“i was trying to test out my skills so i just judged it by the case and the name”

then he runs his tongue along the inside of his cheek like

“i guess it worked then,” he just goes along with her cause she's cute

and he loves her

so they danced until the song was done

and hyuck was like ‘blindfold time!! ^-^’

so when he pulled out a blindfold taehee went: oh shit what is that

her face kinda said everything so hyuck laughed and just told her to go along with it

she was vvv nervous,,you can tell her grip on hyuck was like really tight

“oW OW CALM DOWN!! geez HAHA”

when they entered the conference room, taehee immediately said “IS THAT CAKE??”

the other members had to keep their chuckles to themselves until taehee sat down

hyuck gave her a very wet sweet kiss on the cheek before removing her blindfold

so when taehee opened her eyes, hyuck took the seat beside her

on her other side was yuta, taeil, then jungwoo

meanwhile beside hyuck was johnny, mark, and taeyong

doyoung was standing in the front with a mic

“woah woah woah whats this”

and her eyes traveled up to the banner yuta and taeyong made

in glittery shining letters, it read “OUR PRECIOUS BABY PUMPKIN TAEHEE *heart*”

“BABY PUMPKINNNCDC,” taehee was laughing at the cringiness

then when mark, yuta, and taeyong came to the front she immediately groaned and let her head bump on the table

“this is gonna be so corny”

“wise men say,,”

“only fools rush in,”

“but i can't help,,” taehee sighs instead and gives in

at the end of the day, who could resist the mark lee

“falling in love with you,,” at this point they're all singing along and swaying their arms

meanwhile yuta and taeyong kept laughing at the back

at one point they slow danced with each other, making the members laugh

they all clapped when mark was finished yay!!

taehee stood up to give mark a bro hug and a pat on the head

“okayyy welcome to taehee’s birthday bash!!”

“first up, opening remarks to be led by jaehyun”

you notice the grins on the boys’ faces were so happy bc taehee was so responsive yet genuine with her actions

they’ve truly hit the jackpot with this one

so they've got taehee laughing a lot more

to the point she CANT SEE because her eye smile ^-^

she's so precious czennies want to give her the world

taehee kept shouting that they were cute esp taeil he looks so tiny in between these giants

when they're done taehee’s in literal tears, “aa i love u guys so much”

blowing of cake yay!!!

the members are laughing because of the look in her eyes

hyuck’s cover off happy birthday makes a powerful comeback again

mark’s just shaking his head at him

so while they're all distributing slices of cake

markhyuck takes a stand at the front and they look like they're about to make a toast

lmao they are

closing remarks time!! aka picture time

hyuck and yuta were getting playful with taehee so they swiped a but of icing from the cake then onto her nose and cheek

she just nose scrunched at them uwu they love her so much

aaaaa this is so long

i cannot express enough how much the members love taehee

she has been their friend, sister, mentor, cheerleader, etc. for so many years

they love her to death

so as they all said cheese for the photo, their love for each other shines brightly through their eyes and smiles

in this journey, it’s all or nothing <3
