This idea just came up in my head while watching a movie, what if you and Yuji are watching a scary movie. Yuji purposely put on a horror theme for the classic “girl gets scared and cuddles with boyfriend” trick. But he ends up getting instead from a jumpscare causing him to grab the your leg(or thigh 👀) outta fear but unintentionally. When he realizes he apologizes. However when the reader notices how frightened Yuji got, she decides to help comfort him with some kisses and affection to also distract him from the movie. 🥰❤️🩷❤️🩷❤️

Yuuji is a bit embarrassed by his reaction. Because, after all, isn't he the guy with superhuman strength who is supposed to be your hero who always protects you? But here he is, jumping at a horror movie. And not even a good one! Yuuji feels his cheeks burn with a blush.

Luckily, you snuggle into his arms and capture his lips in a long, sweet kiss while slipping into his lap. And Yuuji wraps his arms around you and kisses you back enthusiastically, hoping you will forget about his little moment of weakness.

But he was wrong. When you finally pull away from the kiss, you cup his face with both hands, so sweet and gentle, and look at him with a worried expression,

"Are you okay again, baby? We should watch a funny movie afterward."

Yuuji cringes, feeling his cheeks burn again. He scratches his neck and smiles sheepishly at you while his mind is trying to come up with a good explanation.

"Yeah, I'm okay. I wasn't scared… I am just… um… vigilant!"

You stare at him for a long moment. Yuuji can't help but think how cute you look, straddling his lap and watching him with that baffled expression on your pretty face. He wants to kiss you all night. And he is about to do that when you suddenly burst out laughing.

"Vigilant? Oh, I see. You thought that thing on the TV was about to attack me? That's why you grabbed my thigh like that? My hero."

Yuuji is about to complain loudly, stumbling over his words, trying to find a more believable excuse, but his attempt gets silenced by your soft lips, once again capturing his in a kiss.

He can feel your smile against his mouth and hear your little giggles between kisses, which turn into happy sighs when Yuuji takes control of the kiss and slowly flicks his tongue against yours.

This time, he makes sure you will stop thinking about the little scene earlier. You sound so cute when you gasp when Yuuji flips you onto your back and lies on top of you, pressing you down into the bed with his heavy body, attacking your lips with more sweet kisses.

And you sound even sweeter when you moan his name a few minutes later, when your clothes are strewn all over the bed, and your naked bodies writhe needily against each other while on the TV screen, the ending credits of the stupid horror movie roll.

You surely don't think about movies anymore when your eyes roll back and your legs wrap tightly around Yuuji's hips while he pushes into you with strong, deep thrusts.

An hour later, the two of you are cuddling under the warm blanket, still naked, basking in the afterglow of your lovemaking while watching another movie. This time a rom-com you picked.

Yuuji smiles happily against your neck, pressing a tender kiss to your skin and tightening his arms around your body as he snuggles against you from behind.

He blinks when you suddenly murmur,

"Hey, Yuuji?"

"Hmm, yeah, cutie?"

"You are really my hero. You know that, right? I was just teasing you. I was so scared by that movie that I was frozen in place… and I was so grateful when you grabbed my thigh and gave me an excuse to climb into your lap and kiss you."

And now Yuuji is the one who laughs. His strong arms hug you even tighter as he informs you in a happy voice,

"You never need an excuse to kiss me, baby. I am all yours, always."

Day 1:

“Your car?! Crowley, you can’t be serious.”

He’s certain he’s told you about his living situation. Well. He was certain. You’re looking at him now with such horror it’s like he kicked a puppy in front of you, and he wonders if perhaps he let it slip his mind. 

“I don’t have the flat any more, do I? Where else am I meant to go?”

You open your mouth to retort and then realise… where can he go? Aziraphale’s? God, you love the angel, he’s one of the best friends you have — but he is a bit obtuse when it comes to social things. And you’re not sure Crowley actually has any money, so he can’t rent anywhere else to live. 

Well, no matter. You shan’t let it stand for a moment more. 

“You’re moving in.”

“What?!” he looks appalled. You put your hands on your hips. 

“I’ll have no complaining, Crowley. That car is not a home. You’re coming to live with me.”

You’ve been with Crowley for a couple of months now. This is perhaps expediting the process of a relationship - the moving in stage usually takes a bit longer - but you’re pretty sure this constitutes an emergency. He is, for all intents and purposes, homeless. 

Besides, having a live-in boyfriend might be nice. He could make you tea. 

So that evening finds the two of you unloading his few possessions from the car and finding space for them in the flat. He takes a long while to work out where the best place is for his house plants, but eventually the two of you are left sitting on the couch surrounded by your joint belongings. 

“Would you like a room to yourself? The spare is my office at the moment, but I can always move my desk into my bedroom.”

“Do you want me to have a room to myself?” he asks, arching an eyebrow over his sunglasses. 

“Well, no, I want you to share the double with me—”

“Then there’s no conflict of interest, is there?”

You smile and he kisses you. 

Day 2:

It doesn’t feel strange, waking up with him next to you. He’s slept over a couple of times at this point. What does feel odd is the way he doesn’t head off as you start to make breakfast, instead he asks to borrow a towel and use the shower. 

He doesn’t even have any bloody towels, you think, but acquiesce to his request. 

He spends a lot of time in the shower. You’re not sure how hot he has it running, but by the end of the affair steam is leaking out from the gap between the bathroom door and your stone tiling. When he emerges with the towel wrapped up on his head, it is with a billow of clouds. 

“Have you turned the extractor fan on?” 

“Hmm?” he asks, looking up from drying his hair. He hasn’t manifested anything on his body, so he’s smooth as a Barbie doll - it’s a bit disconcerting just having him stand there like that. You try not to look at the featureless mound. 

“Extractor fan!”

He sighs and moseys back into the bathroom, walking into the wall a little where his glasses have fogged up. 

As you watch your flat fall foul to condensation, you consider that this might take some adjustment. 

Day 3:

“Bake-off tonight.”

“Must we?”

“We must.”

Crowley groans and flops onto the sofa. It occurs to you that you’ve never actually seen him sit. He’s always flopping, like everything is constantly far too much effort for him. 

“Please, it’s a show made with the sole purpose of torturing me. It’s so… twee.”

“Well buckle in, matey. We have ten weeks of it.”

“Ugh.”

“You can go and read in the bedroom if you prefer.”

“Fine. I will.”

But he doesn’t move an inch and complains throughout the whole program. However he does swing his legs up onto yours for comfort. 

Day 7:

You’re falling into a routine. 

You wake up, perform your ablutions in the bathroom, then start on breakfast. The sound of the kettle lures him out of bed and into the shower. He spends so long in there you don’t bother making him a drink, instead you wait until he deems it fit to emerge and he reboils the leftover water. He takes his coffee black and the two of you chat about your plans for the day. 

Unfortunately you have to work. You have a pretty well-paying job so the slightly increased energy bill and thoroughly increased water bill aren’t too much of an issue, but it does mean you can’t spend as much time with him as you’d like. 

At least the flat is always spotless, though. To be fair to him he is an efficient housekeeper. There’s always a new configuration for the plants, too, as if botanical feng shui is all he does while you’re away. 

It’s nice. It’s… domestic. And it’s utterly Crowley. 

Day 30:

His belongings are mingling with yours now. Combined bookshelves with his new purchases. His record player set up on your side table with a mix of records. He has a special blend of tea which sits right next to your earl grey, and a single black mug which stands out against the rainbow of your collection. 

At night he wraps around you and tangles his legs with yours. His hand slides onto the plain of your stomach and you thread your fingers through his while he feels you breathe. 

He no longer wears his sunglasses around the flat. 

It is wonderful. 

He still claims not to like Bake-off. 

Day 45:

“Crowley? Why can I smell burning?”

You know he’s opening his mouth to lie, deciding against it, and instead making the choice not to say anything at all. Bracing yourself, you walk into the kitchen. 

“Oh! Crowley…”

“Not a word,” he says, trying to finish the decoration on the chocolate cake. It stands three tiers tall and, though the kitchen is a mess and he is somehow covered with buttercream, you can tell he’s actually pretty proud of himself. One last squeeze of the icing bag and he’s done, triumphant and grinning at his creation. 

“Why all this?” you ask. He shrugs. 

“You said the cakes looked good on Bake-off last night. Figured they couldn’t be that hard to do.”

“And do you still stand by that assessment?” you wipe some icing off of the tip of his nose. 

“Just eat the bloody cake.”

You laugh, and you do. It’s delicious. But not as delicious as the kiss he gives you. 

Day 64:

“You’re living together?!”

You peer up at Aziraphale from over the top of your novel, then exchange a glance with Crowley.

“Well, yes.”

“For a couple of months now actually, angel.”

“You never told me!”

You’re certain you did, but don’t object. He’ll get all persnickety if you do. 

“Did you not think it was strange we always took the Bentley ‘home’ together?” is what you say instead. “And that we always arrive at the same time, too?”

Aziraphale fumbles for words and comes up empty. He settles on:

“Hmm. Well, I expect to be invited over for dinner.”

“Of course. Crowley will make dessert.”

The angel’s eyes light up, and Crowley looks at you as if you’ve cursed him.

Hehe yes! This is what that anniversary art we posted on 10.10 was referring to, in case you missed it. Realising that it’s been 14 years feels kind of weird, it honestly doesn’t feel that way, but at the same time I don’t even remember the times when we weren’t together lol

It feels a bit weird giving any kind of relationship advice, and I really can only speak for our situation (and I know (guess?) your question is half-joking, but I’m going to reply to it seriously), but… Hmm, it might sound cheesy or obvious, but I really mean it: I think the most important things are mutual respect, empathy, and ability to have fun together. Different people have different things they find important in relationship, but I feel like these three things are always important. Everyone has differences and difficult moments, fights are also inevitable, and if you’re together all the time, there are going to be moments when you annoy each other. What’s important is that you remember that you love that person and be empathetic and compassionate, but also give them space when they need it. Both people should do that, of course, the point is meeting each other in the middle and being willing to compromise if you feel disconnected. It’s all about giving each other space, but also all about actively and genuinely enjoying your time together. Being together shouldn’t feel like a chore and instead should be your comfort place, where you can both feel safe and have fun.

You don’t have to always love the same thing, but there should be something both of you are passionate about together. Both in terms of projects or just hobbies, there should be something both of you can yell about together. Katsu and I both love anime, love horror, love our ships and love creating. My art is my self-expression, and Katsu’s stories are also personal to Katsu, and all of those things tie together in such a tight knot, in a good way. It’s all connected, and we are always preoccupied with those things. But also, I am very lucky because even if Katsu isn’t into something that I am into, I can still yap about it without Katsu getting annoyed, and that’s fair for the things that Katsu likes too.

So yeah, uhhh, watch movies together and ship incest together, it makes relationship stronger lol

I don’t mind answering your question! But the problem is, I am not even sure how to answer it. Just for the record: we aren’t married, and unfortunately we can’t get married here. So I’m talking about asking each other out…

Katsu was the first one to get a crush, and it took me a while to notice lol It’s always funny remembering this story because poor Katsu confessed to me pretty directly, and somehow it still flew completely over my head. I guess I just couldn’t believe Katsu could like me (such an independent and smart person…), or maybe I was just as oblivious as I was stubborn. Only after Katsu got frustrated with me during some other conversation weeks later and said something about me not understanding someone else’s feelings, I started thinking that maaaaaybe Katsu kind of likes me? I was genuinely so surprised. I was so bad at noticing all the flirting…

And if that wasn’t enough… After we got closer and became obviously romantic with each other, after a certain point Katsu had to gather courage and to actually ask me directly if this whole thing is mutual. I didn’t even notice that I hadn’t told Katsu a single “I love you”, I just assumed that we were already dating after a certain point, and that everything else was already implied.  😱😱😱 Katsu YOU POOR THING

In my defense, both of us were very young when this whole thing happened, and I gained a lot more emotional intelligence since then lol Thanks to Katsu.

So yeah, our anniversary day isn’t actually the day we started dating (it’s kind of difficult to pinpoint when that happened LOL there are a couple of dates…), but actually a day when I got tired of my ex-friend and ex-gf mistreating me (we were still dating) and decided that I would rather spend time with Katsu instead, and we had a wonderful time together and it was the first time I felt such a strong genuine emotional connection with someone. I made a choice that day, and I even though it took some time for my head to figure it out, now I feel like my heart decided everything on 10.10.10.

fic writer meme - 5 or 11? 👀

5) What's a genre that you'd like to try writing?

Hmm, I don't feel that I have a good answer for this -- I will occasionally branch out into a new genre, but usually in response to some kind of prompt or challenge, not necessarily because I want to do it for its own sake. Also I'm not necessarily sure what falls under the category of 'genre' here? I go back and forth between comedy, drama/adventure and horror on a fairly regular rotation, and have occasionally experimented with things like Noir (The Chained City) or Cyberpunk-ish (TTL Kirkwall Station) but I can't think of any one genre that I haven't done, that I'm particularly itching to do. Like, there are either so many that doing them all would be impossible?

11) Do you have a favorite dynamic to write?

Based on how many times I've appended author's notes that boil down to "Sorry guys, the banter between these two characters just took over this chapter," I think I'd have to say that my favorite dynamic is Manzai Comedy Duo. 😂 Two characters who are either siblings or close but slightly vitriolic friends, who know each other incredibly well but still disagree enough to spark off each other, and without necessarily any kind of romantic chemistry. Most recent examples of Those Two Guys are Shang Qinghua-Shen Qingqiu and Jiang Cheng-Wei Wuxian, but I think I've also hit that note sometimes with Loki-Thor and Kurogane-Fai in the past.

When did you start writing?

I was writing awful emo-type fiction (featuring yandere tropes that I didn’t know were a thing) then got into fanfic around ?13/14? with Death Note. I think so anyway, it’s nearly impossible for me to remember what age I did what 🤷‍♀️

Are there different themes or genres you enjoy reading than what you write?

I enjoy literary horror and absurdist fiction, which I used to write more of but haven’t really felt motivated to since venturing back into romance writing. I have a few short stories though from back in the day in these genres that I was thinking about publishing somewhere, but I wouldn’t know where to begin!

Is there a writer you want to emulate or get compared to often?

I’ve always been inspired by Diana Wynn Jones and have been compared to her from before, but I’m not sure I agree with that because I am nowhere near her level — that would be the dream, though! When I used to write more creatively, I very much tried to emulate Sayaka Murata, my queen. 🙇‍♀️

Can you tell me a bit about your writing space?

I don’t have a designated space, but I do find it easier to write when I’m commuting (because there’s no wifi/signal and I have nothing better to do). So… the London Underground? 😁

What's your most effective way to muster up a muse?

Being so bored that “I might as well write”, hahahaha! I have tonnes of hobbies though so, unfortunately, I don’t get in the writing mood very often. 🤣

Are there any recurring themes in your writing? Do they surprise you?

I tend to always end up writing about depression and trauma, even when I didn’t intend to hehe. 🤭 Write what you know, right? Tbh, I’m unfortunately quite a pessimistic person who is more naturally inclined towards melancholy, so I think these things tend to slip into my characters. That said, I always want to make things feel hopeful and whimsical too — probably as a form of escapism — so I suppose that surprises me!

What is your reason for writing?

A loaded question… 👀 I wrote a long answer just now but deleted it because I couldn’t quite properly express what I meant lol, so the tldr is: escapism, self expression, and fulfillment🫡

Is there any specific comment or type of comment you find particularly motivating?

I love all comments ❤️❤️ but also, if you’re writing mini essays under my fics, you have a special place in my heart.

How do you want to be thought about by your readers?

Hmm, depends on what I’m writing. For the most part, I’d like readers to think I’m funny and enjoy my humour, and, of course, enjoy the story I create!

What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?

I personally enjoy my sense of humour in writing. My one-shot ‘Gods Damned Gale Dekarios!’ and some parts of HITMC have been some of my favourite writing I’ve ever done, and my short stories I used to write used tonnes of irony and absurdist humour. I think I’m also good at writing about characters’ inner thoughts and feelings — when it comes to anything external, however, I struggle. 💀

How do you feel about your own writing?

I think I’m pretty average tbh — enjoyable enough to read but nothing super special. I have a lot of cognitive issues that make writing really hard for me, especially when it comes to, like I said, writing about anything that’s happening externally: action, the senses, settings, etc. I think I especially have problems when it comes to the all important “show not tell” rule, because girlypop has no visualisation skills. 🤣 But overall, I think as long as people are enjoying my writing, I don’t see it as a reason to be hard on myself. I’ve kinda given up on any ambitions to write anything more than what I do now because my disabilities are too extreme and also getting worse with age, but hey-ho, it is what it is.

had an idea about a MAS horror coffee shop au. meet cute on tbe surface but secretly serial murder mystery drama under the lid. now hear me out

sabo owns and runs a coffee shop in town where both ace and marco happen to get coffee, theyre both his regulars but theyre never there at the same time--

marco comes in during the mornings when he jogs during the weekend, he always orders a plain coffee with oat milk, and he talks to sabo about anything new hes found particularly interesting. hes a family doctor with a hobby for traveling, hes silvering at the sides of his hair, usually smiling, and is a down to earth guy you can trust.

SECRETLY , marco is a private detective after spending years as a battlefield medic, he consults with forensics on murder cases sometimes for his familiarity with weapons and violence. for months now hes been quietly following the gruesome serial murders of high profile officials and wealthy people in town and thinks the culprit is the citys local vigilante, the mysterious Fire Fist

ace comes in at the oddest hours of the night when hes strangely beat up or bored and orders something different every time but he never wants it to taste like coffee. he makes jokes and teases and flirts from the dark corners of the shop and doesnt let sabo get a good look at him, but hes suprisingly sweet. tells him he better not be keeping the place open 24/7 (hes not. he keeps it open 20/7 thank u very much) and always smells a little burney, but is a nice guy you can be yourself around.

SECRETLY ace is the local vigilante Fire Fist whos been protecting the city for the last couple years (does he have powers ?? idk. maybe hes just going at that shit dirty batman style) and who has been playing cat and mouse with that private detective for a while now but hes kind of got a thing for the silver fox look soooooo 👀 but hes trying to catch whoevers committing the murders and keep people (marco) safe, without ruining his secret identity and getting arrested

sabo grew up in a strict rich family to the son of an investor, not even a businessman his father never worked at all, but he grew up seeing the way people with money treated others, terrible crimes would just get paid away. so sabo left and built a life on his own instead, started a little coffee shop in an old run down building, he lives in the tiny upstairs unit but hes happy with it. hes too skinny and pale and has a weird scar he prefers to cover with hair and loose clothes, but hes a guy you feel you can tell anything to.

SECRETLY sabo has been spending his free time hunting and slaughtering members of the upper class in increasingly violent and gruesome ways, with his favorite go-to being Lead Pipe At Your Body. but hes meticulous, he never leaves a trace behind, and neither the police nor the detective nor Fire Fist can find him. sabos a vigilante in his own sort of way, the people hes killing are associated with trafficking or violence anyway, but he only knows that because hes been torturing and murdering people for information. which does not stand up well in court. so hes decided will handle it his god damn self instead

now hes trying to keep his secret under wraps by keeping his friends close.. and his enemies........well......... you know 😏

I'd let them have access to my library. If it's a book, I'll let them figure out when they're ready to handle it.

(Works fine as long as you're a decent parent and answer questions that come up without being a weirdo about it and freaking them out so they never ask you anything again.)

For films and other things... hmm... it's tricky because all of the formative tings for me were the genre I'd call Weird Art Films About Weird Sex.

If my kid were shaping up to be that kind of weirdo at 14, maybe I'd leave some of these around, but I think it would be pretty intrusive to thrust them upon anybody outside of a film school seminar. Maybe Harold & Maude. My parents rented that when I was a tween. It made An Impression. It's rare for me to see something even two or three times, but Harold and Maude I've seen dozens.

I still think the opening to Harold and Maude is one of the best of any film:

You immediately know what kind of people both of these characters are and that this isn't going to be a simple comedy, dark or otherwise.

The first time I watched it, I knew nothing about the film and was surprised at both this and all of Harold's other antics. It's hilarious until it isn't. It's a movie about zest for life vs. wanting to die, and it walks an interesting line tonally. I remember rewatching it to show it to friends in college... and for the first time understanding that look Harold gets when he sees Maude's arm.

There was definitely media I loved pre-puberty, but the things I remember are all like Nancy Drew.

I consumed vast quantities of mystery, and it's probably why I'm a mystery novelist today, but I don't remember anything specific that feels formative in other ways. I wouldn't try to stop a kid from reading trash. I remember how infuriating it was to have adults constantly trying to make me read something "better" than Nancy Drew. But I wouldn't specifically hand my kid those or any of the other formulaic junk series (Sweet Valley High et al.). They'll find whichever ones are popular at the time just fine.

There's a very particular feeling of my brain lighting up that I remember mostly from my teen years. Those media made me quiver and have to pause the movie. I felt seen or maybe I felt too much to handle. That's the feeling I associate with formative media for me.

Here are the ones that instantly spring to mind even after all this time:

Velvet Goldmine - Music fan investigates the glam rockers of his youth, meditating on his sexual awakening and trying to solve the mystery of where one of them went. Ewan McGregor's tweet is the sequel. I will accept no other outcome.

Crash - James Spader at the peak of his beauty falls into the world of car crash fetishists who are dealing with the ennui of modern life and the alienation of the big city and technology by becoming perverts. Contains people going down on scars and tattoos, fetishy leg braces, and what teen me assumed was homoerotic subtext. (Spoiler: it was not subtext.)

Matador - A serial killer murders her victims like a bullfighter would; she stalks her favorite retired bullfighter who is also a serial killer. Antonio Banderas plays a dweeb like always in Spain. (The rest of Almodóvar's 80s and 90s movies were also favorites.)

Kissed - The fluffy necrophilia movie

The City of Lost Children - Less horny, but what is up with Miette and One's vibe? Visually a feast. Ten times the movie Amélie is. Sorry, not sorry.

Cemetery Man - Rupert Everett kills zombies in this bizarre Italian horror movie based on a comic book character drawn to look like Rupert Everett. My stepfather thought it looked like something I'd like and rented it for one of my birthday parties in high school. Around the time of the quasi necrophilia sex scene I realized 1. he'd chosen well and 2. he had clearly not read the back too carefully.

The Pillow Book - Japanese-Chinese novelist named after Sei Shonagon has a battle of literary wits with the publisher who blackmailed her father into sex with him. Involves a lot of calligraphy on naked men, including Ewan McGregor.

Sex, Lies & Videotape - Unfulfilled housewife has her world turned upside down when her shitty husband's college best friend comes to visit. This dude has become unable to be with women after a bad breakup and interviews and videotapes women discussing their masturbation habits for his own private use. Contains a famous and stupid quote about men falling in love with the people they sleep with and women becoming more and more attracted to the people they love, but the movie is far less gender normative than the character saying that.

Tesis - Uptight film student who pretends not to like violence decides to do a thesis on violence in Spanish media. Her advisor dies while watching a mysterious tape he got from somewhere. She steals it, finds out it's a snuff film, and investigates with the help of a creepy horror film nerd.

The best scene is when they're watching some violent shit she asked him for ("for her thesis") and she says "What kind of people watch this stuff?"

He answers: "You, for example."

That one I discovered when my roommate in Japan was watching it a couple of years after college. Many of these I saw in high school. That's the range where I remember things being particularly formative. Or maybe it's about what I'm open to at different points in my life: I think weird art films can still make me feel too much, but I don't always like that feeling, and I don't seek them out as much now.

Knife+Heart made me flash back to that era though. It's a neon-drenched period piece about a lesbian director of artsy gay male pornos investigating a serial killer targeting her actors. The sheer levels of meta insanity and horny murder scenes, my god!!!

Running through all of these are themes of ambiguous sexuality, often queer but also non-genitally-focused, massive quantities of voyeurism, meditations on what it means to be a fan, and a boatload of death=sex=death vibes.

That's not quite what you asked, but basically, my own formative media isn't something I'd share with just anyone. If people want to watch necrophilia-filled art films of the 90s, I think they need to choose that for themselves.

I guess all that access to Beatrix Potter and watching basically no TV other than Mystery! or Masterpiece Theater (i.e. UK costume dramas catering to a teaboo market and co-funded by the US) during my early childhood had an effect. So did going to schools where we studied Asian American history and read Dragonwings.

None of those media stand out. I'd share them with my kid, but one example is as good as another. Knives Out delivers substantially the same experience as most of them. Watching whatever anime is hot now will be as good as watching the anime I liked when I was young.

this...maybe shouldn't have been in my WIP folder because it's more of a self-indulgent character exercise than anything else? but idk maybe it will turn into something one day, who knows! anyway, it's a shirley fic that is veeeerrryyy, very loosely inspired by the 1931 movie waterloo bridge -- i was on a pre-code movie kick a while back and watched this, and of course was like, "ah, WWI, how can i relate this to anne of green gables?" it's also sort of blended with before sunrise, in a "characters just walk and talk and connect for one night and then potentially never see each other again" way.

general plot: shirley goes to london on leave, meets a girl when they're hiding out during a raid, they walk and talk and have a moment of human connection and then it's back to the horrors of WWI.

the male lead in the movie is, hmm, more naive/romantic than i picture shirley as being; the movie overall is darker and more tragic than i think i'm capable of going. but i liked the overall dynamic a lot -- two people trying to survive, and struggling between the selfishness of doing what they have to/what's expected, while still wanting to be something more for another person. (i like using shirley to touch on the darker or more realistic sides of the war and the changes in social order it brought -- i guess bc he's both wholesome and practical, so i don't see him being very judgmental.)

She either had to strike him down or accept the fatality he was aiming for. Holding her sword with a painfully tight grip, she blindly lunged forward with a cry. Chat was close enough that it would surely hit him in the chest or abdomen. With his lack of armour, it would have been a devastating wound. Except Ladybug's sword didn't meet its intended target. With a cat-like twist of his body, Chat grabbed the blade with his bare hand to stop its advance, angling away from the blade before it could carve into his stomach. If he felt any pain from the sharp edge biting into his flesh, he didn't show it. Ladybug was certain she was more shocked than him by the sight of his bloodied hand holding her sword. Blood seeped through his fingers, tainting his pale skin as it dripped from his claws and her sword alike.

hmm in terms of one-shot vs long fic i have to say i prefer one-shots for two reasons: a) i operate mainly off hyperfocus when it comes to any activity, and one-shots are possible to write in 1-2 sessions like this (for me), whereas long fics require consistent long term effort, and b) i feel like i can maintain a more consistent quality throughout the fic

and then in general i like to write angst, but i have been known to write fluff as well if the mood catches me. i'd describe my writing as more introspective. whatever im feeling at the moment is what i put into my fics.

i also like to write things that are more suspenseful like mystery or horror genre but i dont write them often bc im not confident in my ability to pull that kind of thing off. although im working on an itafushi horror one shot rn so 👀
