Eda always said she was into metallica and Ronnie James Dio, ACDC but everyone who knew her knew she loved listening to Celine Dion and elton jhon when no one was watching.

Something similar happened to raine that they swore they only lisent to classical music, but everyone knew they had a big BIG Britney Spears phase.

Lillith swore she was only into alternative music, nirvana, Bowie, the classics. But she also had a big NSYNC craze (she genuinely found the songs to be abnormally catchy, she hates to admit it but even to this date she remembers the choreography of bye bye bye to a teeth)

Darius was also really into Britney spears just like raine, also with a fair doses of Michael Jackson, but they had a secret like for green day.

Just thinking aloud about fame, celebrity, and Pluto in Aquarius...

When Britney Spears was released from the conservatorship there were posts about how it's likely Britney might not be as internet-literate or socially appropriate as we'd like her to be, considering everything she went through. The posts encouraged others to be patient and understanding, and not to cancel her if she happens to make any mistakes.

Just now I saw a similar point about Gypsy Rose Blanchard. Now that she's released she intends to make herself very public online, but her entire life (32 years) has been spent in either one prison or the other. There are concerns for how she might adjust to the internet we know today, seeing as how she likely didn't get the opportunity to grow alongside social media the way the rest of us did.

In the 2024 Year Ahead Forecast from The Astrology Podcast they brought up the Pluto in Leo generation, and how that period of time and that generation relate to the making of our concept of "celebrity". They're also the generation that are holding on to power (like the presidents of the USA). Pluto in Leo gen is also unique because it's one of the only Pluto generations that is likely to live to their Pluto opposition, which is happening now. With this Pluto opposition, the pod talked about how the idea of who gets to be in power is likely to change. As well as our concept and relationship with "celebrities".

In 1991, Pluto in Scorpio (square to Pluto in Leo, if it matters. Whether it matters is still something I'm exploring here), Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's. I'm not actually sure how public illness was allowed to be previous to that. I just remember growing up how Michael J. Fox was something of a special case, and his celebrity status helped make massive leaps in awareness and research for Parkinson's.

Hollywood became big in the 1920's, when Pluto was in Cancer. While Pluto has been in the opposite sign, Capricorn, I feel like I've heard about a million celebrities coming out with illness. Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Bruce Willis. Recently, Celine Dion. If you Google it, there are lists of dozens of celebrities with chronic illnesses. Not to mention mental illness, which has become that much more public.

My feeling at this point is that there are themes of privacy, hidden and internal illness, and representation here that we've seen getting dug up from the Pluto in Cancer era. True crime stories from old Hollywood, being open about mental illness, exposing how child talents have been exploited by the industry, and of course, hidden afflictions to celebrities are changes we've seen around fame through the trine, Pluto in Scorpio, and opposition, Pluto in Capricorn.

Most obviously, though, who gets to be famous has changed the most in the last 20 years. It used to be only special, hand-picked people who got to be famous. Now it could be anybody with a cell phone.

I think of this blog post on the Aries Point by Ace (AliceSparklyKat), where they talk about how the angular points seem to manifest. They've noticed that celebrities whose Sun is at 0 degrees Cancer seem to be regarded as chameleon-like in their nationality, form, or culture, and those with 0 degrees Capricorn seem to be known for a peak example for one nationality, form, or culture. I wonder if this can be seen in this shift to influencer culture, particularly in the rhetoric that celebrities until now have been made to represent everybody. But now, after Pluto in Capricorn, we are much more aware of the consequences of not having fair representation of more nuanced, individual experiences. At first it was all about art and talent. Now, it's about the hard tacks of who gets what job and why, and the consequences of story. Very Cancer to Capricorn opposition coded.

Anyway, I feel like I've noticed a lot of celebrities becoming ill in the past, and now I feel like I'm seeing some "taboo" issues come up in influencer culture. I'm wondering about how this could be gearing us up for Pluto in Aquarius.

7th grade, end of the school day. Boys II Men’s “End of the Road” plays on the radio, sending chills down your spine. You’re trying to keep your composure as your mom asks how your day was, battling back tears. It’s a cruel twist of fate that this song is playing right now. Not only is it the end of your friendship with Steve, but this was one of the few songs you both agreed on.

Growing up, your tastes in music diverged—you leaned toward hip-hop and R&B, thanks to your younger parents, while Steve Harrington was all about pop. Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, Britney Spears, Celine Dion—those were his favorites. Despite your differing tastes, you both shared a love for movies and cheesy drama TV series. Except during his weird Titanic phase when he made you watch it every weekend, or the fact he hated horror movies, which drove you crazy since you loved them.

Steve’s parents were strict about the media he consumed, while your mom, being younger and more lenient, wasn’t as restrictive. This meant Steve was always reporting back about your music choices or horror flicks, especially when Eddie Munson was around.

You met Eddie when you were eight—he was your mom's best friend’s kid, and since your mom often babysat Steve, the three of you were inseparable. Steve and Eddie got along well, but Steve’s jealousy over your friendship with Eddie often led to him tattling on your movie nights.

Yes, Steve Harrington, once a nerdy, goody-two-shoes tattletale, evolved into the King Steve everyone adored. But Steves's sensitive side, the one where he'd cry during The Lion King and learn Grease dance moves with you, was never truly hidden. He’d hold your hand during thunderstorms, kiss your scraped knees, and walk you to class every day, always reassuring you when you cried.

Steve was your first in many ways—the first best friend, the first boy to kiss you, but also the first to make you cry and break your heart.

The first time Steve broke your heart was when he started dating Nancy Wheeler in the second semester of sophomore year. That’s another story. But the first time he made you cry was in 7th grade when he called you ugly in front of all the 7th and 8th graders, including your crush, Tommy Hagan. Steve humiliated you on purpose.

Since last summer, after you told him Billy Hargrove asked you to be his girlfriend, Steve’s been a dick. You’re not sure why—he didn’t seem to dislike Billy back then, though he does now, thanks to their fight.

When Billy broke up with you, the first week of 6th grade, he did it in front of everyone at early morning break. He almost made you cry. And Steve sucker punched him. It was the first fistfight Steve had ever been in. Billy gave him a black eye. They both got lunch detention for a week and Steve wouldn't talk to you for a couple of weeks after that but said it was just because he was grounded.

 Since then he’s become a complete asshole to you, and you get it. He’s becoming more popular, you two have different interests, and that's okay. Friends grow apart, but you never expect this from him. For his words to hurt so bad. To embarrass you like that in front of everyone. Just like Billy did. Just like Eddie did that day in the park.

Although we’ve come to the end of the road, still I can’t go. Why does this stupid song have to be playing right now? You think to yourself as the tears stream down your face now. You couldn’t believe him.

You two had gotten into an argument in your last period and Steve commented that you are probably just obsessed with him and jealous. You blew up on him and said some pretty mean things and so does Steve. 

“oh get over yourself Steve Harrington, like I would ever want to be with someone as lame as you. Why don’t you go fix your stupid hair”

 “Yeah well, no one would ever wanna be with you, 'cause you’re crazy and.. and ..and ugly!  Everyone knows Billy Hargrove only went out with you 'cause he felt sorry for you!” No one wants to be around you! Thats why your  step dad never sticks around and...and why your real dad didn't stick around!

You didn’t respond. The tears in your eyes were evident, and the classroom fell silent as the teacher walked in. Thankfully the bell rang, and you grabbed your backpack, and left without a word when Heather and Robin called after you. It was all a blur.

Steve cried himself to sleep that night. You were once his best friend, and he had promised your mom he’d always take care of you. How could he say such things? He had always thought you were perfect—the prettiest girl he’d ever seen. The comment about your dads made him sick. He was ashamed and scared to apologize sooner, worried about how you’d react and fearing he’d get in trouble with your parents, who you hadn’t told, but he didn't know that.

You eventually forgave him, but things were never the same. You’d say hi in the hallways or chat online, but the closeness was gone.

That was the first time Steve Harrington made you cry. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be the last.

I did make a playlist, and I listen to it a lot.

So as of today, there are 52 tracks on the playlist, but it’s always growing because I’m always rediscovering songs that suit the fic as I see it. I tend not to focus on lyrics often and rather how the overall mood of the song fits the story, so if a song’s lyrics don’t seem to make sense within the context of the story, it’s because they weren’t taken into consideration. Of course, that’s not always the case, like with Jamelia’s “Something About You” which describes Lily’s awakening to her feelings pretty damn accurately.

There are a healthy number of my favourite artists from the 90s on there because CYOA Lily and James are 90s babies and Lily in particular has a deep, deep love for the 90s aesthetic, as evidenced by her 90s prom fantasy (which is why Maria McKee’s “Show Me Heaven” is on the playlist). So on there we’ve got Lighthouse Family, Simply Red, Britney Spears, Samantha Mumba (Lily’s preferred artist to listen to when Paul and Wendy are having sex in the next room), Backstreet Boys, Celine Dion, Steps, The Corrs and others. Why I haven’t put Peter Andre’s “Mysterious Girl” aka my all time favourite song from the 90s on there is beyond me, I’m going to do that now.

A couple of specifics:

Dario G’s “Sunchyme” is an absolute bop and it’s the song that I picture post-makeover Lily dancing to when she’s getting ready for work in the mornings. James’s get ready song is “I2I” from A Goofy Movie, which is also on the playlist.

Obviously I had to feature Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” because that was James’s first nickname for Lily.

“Therapy” as sung by Andrew Garfield and Vanessa Hudgens is also on the playlist, because @wearingaberetinparis suggested a lyric from that song as a chapter title for chapter 42, when Lily and James have their argument. It was a genius suggestion on her part because of course I had to have Andrew on the playlist, right??

“Good Day” by Nappy Roots is a song that always makes me laugh, and it was the song I played over and over when I was writing chapter 41 aka the chapter where Lily finds out about James and Skylar.

There are a bunch of Sohodolls songs on there because they make very horny music and Lily and James are deeply, deeply horny for one another.

Flo Rida’s “Wild Ones” is on there because you guys voted for it? Why? Find out later.

What makes her marketable is very “ordinary” image—which makes her relatable to “every girl, like me and you” 🙄 her soft voice really creates an intimate atmosphere especially with her vulnerable (but superficial) lyrics. She has to be friends with her fans for her success to work. Because there is no way you can justify her being regarded as a “god” the way people do with Beyoncé and MJ otherwise.

Peppino: Based on the track "Hip to be Italian", I have a silly headcanon that he likes old school hip hop. Missy Elliot, Tupac, etc. He also likes classic rock (think of bands like The Rolling Stones) and Italian opera.

Gustavo: Another opera fan! I feel like he would listen to anything on the radio. So probably listens to a lot of pop music, especially stuff from the early 2000's. Idk I can weirdly see him listening to Britney Spears lmao.

Mr. Stick: Hmm... I feel like he'd also be a pop fan. Probably a Swiftie. His cringe ass probably listens to nightcore.

A year ago I started a list of English language songs that Shen Yuan might have known. Then I updated the list, multiple times through reblogs. This is the compilation of those updates.

11. “dreamgirl” by dave matthews band. my parents met at a dave matthews band concert so i’ve grown up listening to a lot of their songs and they’re nostalgic to me, and this one is one of my favorites. “free fallin” by tom petty is another one that’s nostalgic for me and it moves me every time i listen to it. the lyrics “i wanna write her name in the sky/i’m gonna free fall out into nothin'/gonna leave this world for a while” just gets me in the feels for some reason idk

Bria woke up around eleven in the morning to Phoenix in bed with her. She screamed and jumped out. Fuck you! He burst into laughter, as she playfully threw a pillow at him. After calming down, he wrapped his arms around her and apologized for scaring her. How the hell did he get in? Rosita let him in. She put her award on top of her bookcase, so Woody couldn’t knock it down. He kissed her forehead before she went into her closet to get dressed.

Everyone was on their way over with food to be shared. He brought over a taco casserole. It was sitting inside her refrigerator. The first to arrive were Jon and Dorothea. He went downstairs to let them in while making sure Woody didn’t try to escape. Meow! He was curious about the humans coming into his house and he wanted to smell them.

He jumped up on the kitchen counter because he smelled human food. After being caught trying to steal some chicken, he was picked up by Chester who held him like a baby. He noticed his tail wiggling around, so he caught it with his paws. Chester rubbed his belly. He caught his hand with his paws and put it into his mouth, where he nibbled on it. You taste like a human. Jon came over with Richie looking for Bria. He didn’t know where she was. She might be upstairs.

They noticed her coming over to them. There she was. Meow. Hi, human. She took one look at him holding her cat. That’s fucking adorable! They laughed. What time did she go to bed last night? It wasn’t until around four in the morning. She just about crashed because she was so tired. What time did she wake up? She literally just woke up. That’s why she was upstairs.

After a while, Woody wanted to keep exploring the humans in his house. He was set back on the floor, while she went around saying hello to everyone. They gave her hugs and congratulations. Thank you! They let her grab some food because she was starving, while also grabbing food themselves. Rob and Brad brought a vegan salad with different vegetables. Joe brought Korean fried chicken, while Mike brought Japanese egg rolls.

The food was delicious! Chester topped it off with a chocolate cake with CONGRATULATIONS written in frosting. They all sat down with their plates, plastic silverware, and plastic cups in the living room. They were warned that a certain cat would try to steal their food. Woody made his presence known by meowing. He had his favorite toy in his mouth.

He set it down where everyone could see him. Meow. Rob asked him if he wanted to say something. They laughed. No, he just wanted to play with his toy. He chewed on it and kicked it with his hind legs. David asked her if Richie told her that Britney Spears was going to win. Yes, he did. What did she say? Fuck you. They laughed as he confirmed that was the short conversation they had. He had impeccable timing because she just heard Celine Dion would be in the audience.

Who did she get to talk to? She had to remember because the night was a blur.

“Celine Dion and her husband, Rene; the Backstreet Boys, Ricky Martin, Whitney Houston, Britney Spears, Chris Cornell and Bruce Springsteen. I told Chris about Chester being a fan. He wanted to talk to him, so I called him on my phone.”

“Thank you, Bria. You are amazing”, Chester said.

“It’s funny because he was like, ‘Is he always that enthusiastic?’”

They laughed. What did she say? Yes. Yes, he is. They laughed again. She then talked to Phoenix on the phone. They both were crying. When she came back after finishing the call with him, she ran into Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. They were both so sweet because they made sure she was okay. She told them that she had just talked to her boyfriend and that her tears were ones of happiness.

Was she going to continue with adult contemporary music? Probably. Maybe they could try to add more R&B and pop to it. Whitney Houston and Celine Dion gave her their phone numbers. She was welcome to call them whenever she needed ideas, input or just to talk. David thought she would have a great career in adult contemporary. She, Mike, and Brad would come up with something. Brad told her they could continue to experiment.

When Joe wasn’t paying attention, Woody snuck a piece of chicken from his plate. He ran off with it just as he noticed. Bria apologized to him while getting up. She went over and picked him up. I love you but you can’t steal my friend’s food. Meow! They laughed. She put him into a room and closed the door.

“At least it was chicken and not something that would hurt him”, David said.

“I was going to put him into a room earlier but I figured he would want to be out here.”

“Don’t worry about it. He’s just being a cat”, Hugh said.

“I was thinking about getting a kitten or a puppy, but I wanted to ask Rosita first.”

“Yeah. You might have to do the housework yourself. What a damn shame”, Rob joked.

They all busted out laughing. Was it Pick On Bria Day? Always. They laughed again.

“This is why we can’t have nice things.”

“We need to write down all of your sayings and turn it into a drinking game”, Joe said.

“You will be drunk in no time. Phoenix and I will watch you guys.”

“It will be Joe and I since we’re the only ones drinking. Maybe Linsey”, Mike said.

“A nonalcoholic drinking game”, Phoenix suggested.

“The whole point is to get drunk.”

They laughed. After some back and forth, they agreed to have a nonalcoholic drinking game. That way, they could all participate. Wasn’t Bria twenty-one? No, she was only nineteen. That reminded her of the bottles of wine in her basement that she needed to get rid of. Jon, Dorothea, and Mike went down to help her pack up what she had and bring them back upstairs.

Once they had, they set them down on the kitchen counter. She then offered them to anyone who wanted them. Where were they from? They were from her parents’ collection and they came with the house when she inherited it. She let Rosita and Nicole take from the collection. They went through them all. They were all expensive imported wines that cost hundreds if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. Chester and Phoenix looked through them, but they didn’t take any.

She took out brown paper bags from the kitchen cupboard and put them out for them to use. They thanked her for them. They were very welcome. Her parents would like to know they weren’t going to waste. Dorothea hugged her. She and Jon wanted to sit down with her and Phoenix before they left. Yeah, they could do that.

Dorothea had introduced herself to him earlier. Her first impressions of him were wonderful. He seemed like a guy who had been through a lot but genuinely loved Bria. That was all she wanted for her. Yes, it was weird that he was her husband’s boyfriend but that’s what she signed up for in an open marriage. She couldn’t control who he was attracted to… as long as the relationship was legal. While watching him interact with Jon, she could see true happiness in both of them.

So I mostly only know their music from dance and hit songs so this is based on those

1. Britney: I kinda started living a Britney era recently, maybe it was Danny Lawn, maybe it Nathan's Womanizer group, anyway something happened and I've been loving her

2. Janet: her music's just so fun and nice to listen to, this choice was highly influenced by p21 Miss Jackson. Also when I was a kid I used to listen to a lot of MJ and obviously there's some influence there as well

3. Paula Abdul: Okay I only know like 2 songs but they're both bops – Cold Hearted and Straight Up

4. Taylor Swift: I'm not really into her but I like a good bunch of songs – like Wonderland, Starlight and New Romantics

5. Madonna: honestly no comment at all, she just happens to be here. Hung Up is a banger although it's sampled

6. Beyonce: I don't get the hype. Okay I get the hype in that she is an amazing vocalist, but I don't find her music that interesting

7. Ariana: Piano is the only song I really like, otherwise I find her music kinda H&M background-y. I also don't particularly enjoy her voice, although she talented with high notes

8. Celine Dion: Mark ruined it. No but I'm just not into her style (like power ballads?)

this right here. this is soooo central to her whole cult-like following and image like. it’s undeniable that swifties have said time and again verbatim that she’s “the artist of her generation” because apparently she checks off all the boxes of being the 1. first female 2. popstar 3. powerhouse, so let’s talk about this specifically right here bc it makes me so mad

in terms of commercial success/ net worth rihanna has a net worth of 1.4 billion usd making her the richest female superstar (taylor’s is 1.1 bil). in terms of grammys beyoncé has 32, far surpassing taylor’s 14. the guiness book of world record has whitney houston as the most awarded female singer of all time. yet swifties continue to say “no other female artist has ever achieved success like her ever!!! that’s why she’s so hated!!!”

next in terms of vocal ability which, shocking as it might be, is kinda key to being a successful singer. off the top of my head mariah carey, whitney houston, beyoncé, ariana grande, sza, celine dion, adele, amy winehouse, hell even kelly clarkson are infinitely more agile vocally with versatile singing styles and ranges. ur artist of the generation doesn’t even compare, with her spoken word over basic synth

in terms of dancing choreo and overall being able to put on an entertaining and good show on tours doja cat, beyoncé, rihanna, britney spears have all done it before and have been doing it for a while now

in terms of impact on society culturally and mentally amy winehouse, beyoncé, lady gaga, ella fitzgerald, nina simone, even britney spears have all made music that resonated deeply with people and revolutionised the industry massively. my ethnicity isn’t black so maybe someone else could correct me if i’m wrong but beyoncé’s lion king album was impactful culturally because it featured african artists and was borrowed from the culture and brought to light african beats and sounds. hell even tyla is repping her culture rn. again, a taylor L

lastly in terms of the one thing swifties hail her to be the icon of, which is song writing mitski, laufey, stevie nicks, dolly parton, cynthia erivo, adele have written songs that would make taylor’s discography look like a middle schooler’s english project. never forget folklore was bearable bc joe alwyn co-wrote it

so she fails to be a competent artist in any of these categories and it is notable how many of the greats in all of these aspects are women of colour. so hailing her as the greatest to have ever lived and attacking anyone who disagrees is not only incredibly foolish but also erasure of these women’s successes. u could list 5 reasons to find taylor swift despicable off the top of ur head but her fans will continue to say wHy R u hAtiNg oN hEr uNnEcEsSaRiLy jUsT bEcAuSe sHe’S a WoMaN
