jt (finally) watches warrior nun - s1 e9 (pt 2)
So I finished s1e9 earlier this week but Iâve been putting this off because ⌠I didnât like it very much. The only thing that I found mildly thought-provoking was the Avatrice scene where fight or flight was mentioned, which Iâll spend the bulk of this post ruminating about.
Just to get it out of my system, Iâll note my main criticisms under the cut. Jump to the paragraph that begins âFourth and lastlyâ for when I start talking about Avatrice.
The main problems I had with this episode were four in total (trying my best to keep them concise lol):
First, the length of the scenes, or rather, how thereâs an aggravating tendency to cut to a different scene before any sort of value change has been established (Iâm thinking specifically about Robert McKeeâs âStoryâ - this post summarizes the concept) - resulting in confusion instead of a tension that builds throughout the episode (not to mention a sort of âcolor-by-numbersâ feel as we hit different plot points, rather than a cohesive, inevitable narrative).
Second, the blocking/staging and overall logic in the Ava-Bea-Lilith-Mary confrontation scene - Bea pulling a throwing star instead of a knife was strange, Mary shouldnât have been able to put Lilith in any sort of effective rear naked choke with that height difference, plus if Ava had actually shot Lilith, sheâd have hurt Mary as well - while Toya Turner killed that speech to Lilith, I couldnât help but think that gosh, it couldâve been supported better. Anyway, it wouldâve been nice if it had been filmed with less close-ups and more ensemble to really capture the chemistry and layers. (Iâm thinking about this video by Every Frame a Painting re: ensemble staging)
Third, speaking of support: There was no support for Mother Superionâs reveal as a a former halo bearer here, and I was extremely frustrated by that. Iâm not sure if they were trying to give her an air of mystery, a sort of âwill she help Ava or will she not?â tension. But there was nothing to support even that. Like, yeah, her fight with Crimson was cool, but even there was no build up; no tension, just confusion. Then in the grottos scene when Superion tells Ava that sheâs worthy, I found myself not believing her - because there were no scenes I could point to that showed me that sheâd changed her mind about Ava. From what we'd seen so far, it seemed to me less that she started believing in Ava and more that she stopped believing in Duretti. Lesser evil sort of thing, which didn't really match the content of that scene. Again, while Sylvia De Fanti absolutely killed it, I felt like it could have been more than the disconnected, âoh we have to hit this plot pointâ moment that we got.
Fourth and lastly, thereâs Beatriceâs criticism of Ava, aka the fight or flight conversation. I have a couple issues with this, centering around context and content. First, the context: This scene is following both the fight with Crimsonâs gang - where we see Ava struggling with holding herself back to not get involved (which I sympathized with hardcore - Alba sells those moments so, so well) - and Mother Superion expressing her trust in Ava.
While Beatrice may not have been present for the latter, she must have been somewhat aware of Ava during the former - after all, Ava didnât get involved, she did her job! - but instead of praising Ava for her growth, she disregards it (at best), ignores it (at worst). While the criticism itself is in character for Beatrice - after all, Bea did call Ava thoughtless and self-centered - it felt out of character for her to not have noticed the effort Ava had made during the fight.
Also, zooming out a bit further, Beatrice did do the right thing in bringing more explosives. Sheâs always been one to think of contingency plans, worst-case scenarios. That kind of planning isnât personal, itâs mitigating risk - for both Ava and the rest of the team. Here, Beatrice is fulfilling her side of the trust equation: if something goes wrong - regardless of if itâs caused Ava or not - she will have some kind of plan to rectify the situation. Thatâs her job, thatâs the value she brings to the team, to every mission. The fact that the conversation centers around Ava so personally just felt very off to me.
Second, the content of Beatriceâs criticism really rubbed me the wrong way. I hate that physiological reactions are presented not only as choices, but also as a binary - from what Iâve learned, thereâs upwards of four responses (fight, flight, freeze, fawn). Additionally, I hate that flight is considered lesser, weaker - more selfish, more cowardly.
It really depends on the situation. Whenever Iâve taught self-defense, weâve always expressed the importance of listening to your instincts and leaving a situation when you think you need to. Additionally, to take a different perspective, there are plenty of military examples where standing and fighting was the wrong thing to do. I feel like we glorify fighting for the sacrificial element of it - but man, living is just as important. Flight has its purpose - it would not have been built into our brains, into our bodies without good reason. Fight is not a superior response. It's just one of many that a person can have.
Itâs a very black or white sort of statement from Beatrice and the only leeway I could think of to give her was that maybe for Beatrice, fight is all sheâs ever known. That she was never given the chance for flight - or that it was drilled into her head that flight was selfish and cowardly. Taken from a queer and/or Asian perspective, that kind of makes sense. Especially if âfightâ encompasses things like âenduringâ - as in, enduring the shitty hand that youâve been dealt, where you learn to survive despite the pain.
After all, Beatrice did say âpain is what made me a sister warriorâ - itâs possible that she sees flight, running to be seen as an insult to all the fighting, all the pain sheâs had to endure thus far. (Which I suppose that makes it all the more meaningful that she leaves at the end of s2âŚ)
Anyway, I just wish there had been a bit more nuance in that conversation, or at the very least, less of the whole âletâs shame Ava for wanting to live without addressing all the trauma sheâs been throughâ agenda that seems to permeate so many of these episodes in this season.
Sorry this came out much more rant-y than my other posts. Alba was really the only reason why I made it through this episode, she was wonderful to watch in every scene. Just wish there had been a bit more to it, yknow?
#jt watches wn#jt ramble time#warrior nun#sister beatrice#ava silva#mother superion#this episode wasn't exactly bad i just ... wish it had been better yknow?

Summary: Dukexiety Fairy AU (specifically Tinker bell theme)
Word Count: 1376
TW: Nothing that I could think of but let me know
Prompt: Fantasy
Remus dove and dived through plants and maybe some people as he flew but he had to. He was in a rush. And if Remus wasnât always like this maybe he wouldâve knocked some people down or worse disrupted preparation for the upcoming season. But all of the fairies were used to his recklessness. Simply moving out of the way with a kind greeting or a roll of their eyes.
As Remus continued his reckless flying he reached his destination. To bother the newest Tinker fairy Virgil. So when Remus came zooming at point black range Virgil didnât move quick enough.
âEmooâ âRemus!â The two yelled as they crashed into each other. Virgil's latest attempt at an invention being destroyed in the process. Virgil groaned then shoved Remus off of him.âRemus⌠You ruined my invention! What are you even doing here? Shouldnât you be getting ready?â Remus while still on the ground just whined. âYeah but Iâm bored and Iâm sick of working. I need a break.â
âA break? You canât take a break if you havenât done anything.â Virgil teased. Remus took offense to that and gasped out âExcuse you Iâve done my work! I just finished a ton of snowflakes! Twice my daily amount!â Virgil gave Remus a look. Virgil may have been here less than a year but heâs heard from other fairies, specifically Roman, that Remus always tries to get penis shaped snowflakes through. âWere they approved Remus?â And Remus scoffed. âWere they approved? Not the pointâ
Remus then shot up like a rocket suddenly remembering why he was there in the first place. âSpider come with me!â Virgil picking his stuff up annoyedly asked âWhere to now Dukeâ Remus leaned in close to Virgilâs ear and whispered, âI found an abandoned human house nearby.â Virgil's eyes went wide. âNear here? to us?â. âYes! Well near where I stay but it's still closer than the mainland!!â Remus was basically fluttering with joy at this point.
âSo when do we go?â Virgil asked. âNow.â âWait like right now? Remus I canât leave now! Weâll get caughtâ Remus put his arm around Virgil's shoulder. âRelax emo. Tell Patty Pat youâre gonna be working at your own place for the rest of the day, drop your stuff off, fly the long way to mine, then boom we're outâ Virgil still looked hesitant. âEveryone will be too busy to even notice we're gone, plus weâll be back by dinner.â Virgil huffed, âFine let's do it. But if we get caught it's full blame on you.â Remus was practically glowing. He took Virgil's hand and shook it aggressively âDeal!â And with that Remus took off.
It took Virgil a minute but Remus' plan worked. Virgil left and Patton barely suspected a thing. He made it to Remusâ without running into any fairies so no one would even know he was there. This might just work. The thought that he would get to see his first human home had Virgil feeling like there were a thousand butterflies flying in his stomach while it also collapsed in on itself.
When Virgil made it to Remus house Remus wasted no time rushing out and dragging Virgil along. âDuke!â âNo time can be wasted, fly faster.â It only took 20 minutes of Remus dragging Virgil to their destination but they made it.
And it was worth every second.
A giant spruce wood cabin stood before them. It was clearly old with dark green vines climbing up the side of it, and fluffy moss in every nook and cranny. Some of the wood had been cracked, other parts had completely fallen off, leaving holes in the roof and the door leading inside was hanging off its hinges. But it was the prettiest thing Virgil had ever seen.
âIsnât it cool!â Remus mused. âCool? It's amazing! How did you even find this place?â â WellâŚâ Remus started, âThe other day I was hiding from double de after making auns shaped snowflakes and stringing them on his door. And I just ran into it. Literally! I ran face first into the side of it! Iâm sure if we look you could still see the blood that came from my nose! Because it was a LOT. I mean it was just gushing like-â âOkay I get it! Let's just go insideâ
Virgil and Remus rush inside and start to look around. It was a one room one bathroom cabin. Everything in site had dust on it, there was even dust in the air. The room had a twin sized bed with a torn up pillow. There was a small kitchen set up in the corner and a desk opposite of it.
âIt's beautiful here,â Virgil exclaimed. Remus, whose eyes went immediately to the stove asked âHey you think if I turned that on itâll explode?â âRemus if you destroy this place Iâll never forgive youâ Remus let out a long sigh âFineee. But only because you said so'' Remus said with a wink.
Virgil went looking at the desk while Remus went towards the bed. Virgil Flew to the top of the desk. On it was a sketchbook, some pens, and scattered pieces of paper. The wall above it had pictures of flowers, birds, other forest animals, and some were of the sky. Virgil turned his attention back to the sketch book. He made several attempts to blow off all the dust but eventually his face went rose pink due to the lack of oxygen. Eventually Virgil just took the edge of the page and flew up and down to get the dust off. And he was successful.
The page was covered in beautiful drawings of a bird, which Virgil would later learn in a blue jay thanks to Patton. On the next page there were more sketches of trees. âThis is amazing, Duke come look at this!â Virgil called out, âDuke?â ⌠âRemus?â Virgil turned back towards the bed where Remus was but the winter fairy was nowhere to be seen. Virgil's anxiety spiked. âRemus! If youâre hiding this isnât fukcing funny!â Virgil flew over to the bed and began looking around. Just as he looked in front of the pillow Remus pounced on Virgil and used the feather in his hand to tickle him. Virgil let out a scream then started laughing. âFuck! Stop! Virgil beged between gasps while Remus was giggling like the maniac he was.
Virgil somehow got loose and began flying away. âIâm gonna get youâ Remus sang then proceeded to chase him around the cabin. Remus, to Virgil's demise, was faster and eventually caught up, Remus tackled Virgil and the two fairies went plumiteding to the ground, They landed with a loud thud.
Virgil landed with a hiss while rubbing his head. Remus had of course landed right on top of him. âRemusâŚâ âSorryyyâ he replied and then they both stopped. Theyâre faces were centimeters apart. The dust the disrupted when they fell floated around them, and the sun gave off a warm golden glow. Light blush dusted both of their faces. They stayed like that for a while just staring at one another. Virgil would never admit it but Remus eyes were his favorite shade of green, he felt like he could stare at them for hours.
Remus would proudly and quite loudly admit that Virgil's eyes were the prettiest but his lips were what Remus liked the most about the emo fairy. They were peach pink and looked soft like âa plump ass cheeksâ as Remus would put it.
Virgil wouldâve stayed there all day until he realized that the golden light ment dusk. Which meant it was time for dinner and they were to be late and most likely caught. Virgil gasped âRemuswe have to go like now!â Remus looked out of one of the holes in the ceiling and his eyes went wide. âGoddammit'' He grabbed one of Virgil's hands and the two flew back home. It wasnât until they got to dinner and Roman pointed out that they were holding hands that they let go. But for the rest of the night both fairies had a smile on their faces even as they went to sleep.
A/N: This was supposed to be a part of the Dukexiety week thing but I took WAY too long so now Iâm just posting them as one shots. But Thank you for reading! Whether you liked it or not let me know!

Against All Odds- Week 1
Warning: Harrassment/assault, language, suggestive, threats
Y/N POV
Word Count: 2530
A/N: As mentioned before this is based on my personal life. Even though not everything in this story happened, some of the more serious topics actually did. So a quick warning, there is content in here than can make the reader uncomfortable, specifically se**** harassment/assault. My intention in mentioning this in the series is to make people aware that this kind of stuff does actually happen in places you might not think it happens in. Also I try write relatable content. In my opinion Y/N reaction was kind of realistic. I reacted like that as well but instead of telling a boyfriend I told my close friend who worked with me and his reaction was the same as Eunwooâs. Soooo in conclusion I hope you donât think Iâm writing this to be insensitive. Iâm just trying to be as realistic as possible since it is based off my life.
A/N 2: I am a brown (If ya wanna know my exact ethnicity you could ask and I'll gladly tell :)), curly hair girl and since this is based on my personal life/experience I'm gonna write this series with those details in mind.
*Beep beep beep beep*
Your turned to your side to turn your alarm clock off. When you turned it off you gently pried the hands that were on your waist off. Even though your boyfriend was going to school the same time and place as you, you wanted to get ready first so you could make breakfast.
You took a quick shower and put on some home clothes because you didn't want to mess up your new uniform. After dressing you woke up Eunwoo.
"Eunwoo wake up" You said while shaking his shoulder.
He lifted his head towards you and barely opened his eyes, "Mmmh 5 more minutes", he mumbled dropping his head back onto the pillow.
You understood why he was so tired. You guys had stayed up late finishing the homework assignment that was due today. Had you guys known it was going to take so long you would've done it a week before but there's no point in dwelling on the past.
You shook him again, "Eunwoo, you have to get up. Class starts in an hour." He turned onto his back and whined.
"Morning sleepy head."
"Morninââ
"You should start getting ready. We don't know how this man handles lateness."
"But I'm soooo tired." He said as he grabbed you and pulled you back onto the bed.
"I know, so am I."
"I can think of a couple ways to help us feel more energized." He said while caressing your thigh.
"So can I and it's called a shower and breakfast." You said while slapping his hand away.
He pouted, "You're no fun."
"I'll be sure to remind you of that next time you wanna have se-"
"Okay okay you win."
"I always do, now hurry up and get ready. You have about 15 minutes to shower and eat."
"Hmph, unlike you I don't take an hour just to shower."
"Wh-what?!? I don't take an hour!"
"How would you know if you've never timed yourself?"
"Well-I-you-"
"My point exactly." He said with a smirk as he closed the bathroom door.
You scoffed in disbelief but then thought about it. Maybe you did take an hour to shower but who cares. At least you were thorough when you cleaned yourself. You put your school uniform on and packed you and Eunwoo's lunch. Even though your school was close to fast food places, you guys needed to save up to pay for necessities. Plus who knows if your professor is actually going to give you a long enough break to buy food in those dreadfully long lines.
Just as you finished packing lunch Eunwoo walked out of your shared room fully dressed. You looked down at your watch and realized it was time to go if you guys wanted a seat close to the front.
As Eunwoo went to take a bite of his breakfast you snatched it out of his hand and bagged it.
"Hey! I was about to eat that."
"I don't think so, you took too long to get ready so now you have to eat it on the way."
"Sounds like too much work." He said as he tried to grab his food out of your hand. Of course since you were smaller than him you were able to escape and quickly ran to your bookbag to put his food in it.
After you zipped up your bag, you turned to look at your pouting boyfriend.
"As I said before your going to eat on the way there but since you'll be driving I'll feed you. How does that sound?"
His face beamed at your offer, "Let's get going then."
As you promised you fed him on the way there. By the time you arrived you had about 5 minutes to spare. Before you guys entered the gym you saw one of your classmates you made friends with when you took Pharmacology.
"Hey Laura!"
Laura turned around to see who was calling her name. When she saw who it was she instantly smiled. "Y/N! How are you?"
"I'm good, how have you been?"
"Pretty good, can't really complain." She said but then looked at Eunwoo who was just standing there looking like a teen whose mom just saw an old friend. You wouldn't have mind at first since this would be the first time she ever saw him. But the look she was giving him ignited a fire in you that only happens when you get jealous and that doesn't happen often. So you just stood there and tried your best to keep smiling and act like nothing was wrong.
"Who's your friend?"
"This is Eunwoo, my boyfriend." You said making sure to put emphasis on the boyfriend.
"It's nice to meet you." He said sticking his hand out for a handshake. She shook his hand. An action that is generally an innocent and friendly greeting seemed so wrong in that moment that you couldn't take it anymore.
"Ohh would you look at the time, we should probably go find a seat before all the good ones are taken." You said while pulling on Eunwoo's arm.
"Maybe we can sit together." Laura said as she tried to catch up to you guys.
"Mmmm I don't think we'll be able to." You said while you scanned the room for a row with only two seats available.
Bingo you thought when you saw row 3 only had 2 seats. You quickly pulled Eunwoo to the spot. You looked back to see what Laura was going to do and saw the look of defeat on her face. Which of course brought a smile to your face but quickly dropped it for a look of remorse.
Once you both pushed your chairs closer to each other you sat down and pulled out your syllabus, textbook and notebooks. You didn't even have a chance to talk to Eunwoo because it just turned 8 o'clock.
"Okay, Let's get started." The class immediately got quiet. "Welcome to Process 1, this is where you will learn the fundamental skills of nursing. I covered most questions in our previous zoom meeting so I will not be answering any today unless it has to do with the material. As I said before you must abide by the rules because this is Nursing and we need to shape you into future nurses. I will NOT baby you because this is college and if your looking for an easy class then you can go do Business Administration."
Oh great, another smart a**, you thought.
"Now let's get down to business. Today we're going to be watching videos of what you are going to do for your head-to-toe assessments. But before we do that I am going to let the other clinical instructors introduce themselves."
After they introduced themselves your professor started the videos. At first they seemed interesting but then after a while you started to get sleepy. And you weren't the only one. You looked over at Eunwoo and he was already sleeping. You gently pushed his shoulder and he woke confused about his surrounding until he realized he was still in school. Thankfully your professor finally gave you guys a break from watching videos.
"Okay now we are going to practice what you just saw. I want you to take a finger and find the 1st intercostal space and then the 2nd and don't stop until you get to the 5th one. You will do this on yourselves first and in a few minutes on your partner. But when you are with your partner you will only go to the 2nd one. "
That shouldn't be too hard, it's literally just the space between your ribs, you thought. But boy were you wrong. You couldn't tell if what you were touching was a space or something else and it started to hurt because you were putting a good amount of pressure. You looked over at Eunwoo and surprisingly he seemed to know what he was doing.
The few minutes were up and your professor told you to find a partner and find their intercostal spaces. Obviously you chose Eunwoo as your partner.
"Did you find it on yourself yet?"
"Yepp, it was actually pretty easy to find."
"Can you help me please?"
"Are you sure you want me to touch there?" He said with a smirk.
You narrowed your eyes at him, "Fine. I'll ask someone else. Maybe that guy by the projector... "
"No don't do that."
"Then help me and don't you dare try to do anything."
"Yes ma'am."
He took his pointing finger and started in the upper middle of your chest and dragged it side to side. In a non sexual way of course. He found it to be bit difficult to find it because of the fat in your boobs. However he finally found it.
"Ah, there it is."
"You found it?"
"I found two of them. The other 4 are a bit difficult to find since theyâre underneath your top. The only way I can find it is if I stick my hand in your top."
"Eunwoo." You warned.
"What? I was just saying. I never said I was actually going to." He said feigning innocence.
"Could of fooled me."
He just shrug his shoulders, "Give me your finger so I can help you locate it."
It took a minute before he was able to locate it again but when you finally felt it you let out a breath of relief. You knew you needed to find this for your finals and if you weren't able to you surely would fail the class.
"Do you feel it?"
"Mhmm"
"Good, now find mine"
Since Eunwoo had a flatter chest than you it was easier to find despite him laughing from being ticklish. Before you had a chance to tell him your finding, your professor interrupted you.
"Fooling around isn't going to get you to pass my class."
"But we-" You said.
"Aa! Talking back isn't going to help you pass either. Now go find another partner. You need to practice on your other classmates because your not going to know who you'll be testing with until testing day."
You felt your insides boiling. You had to deal with this crap in high school and now your dealing with this in college. When he left you let out a strained sigh and Eunwoo instantly rubbed circles in your back to calm you down. Normally you would welcome this but you didn't want the professor coming back over to scold you so you pushed his hand off. He looked at you clearly hurt by your actions but you brushed it off and went to find a new partner. Unfortunately the only person available was actually the guy by the projector but at this point you didn't care.
You walked up to him and tapped his shoulder, "Excuse me, do you uh have a partner?"
He turned around to see who tapped his shoulder. You expected him to answer but then he started to check you out with a smirk on his face. "Well hello there, what can I help you with beautiful?"
You rolled your eyes, "I asked do you have a partner?"
"Oooo sassy too, I like"
You narrowed your eyes and turned to walk away, "I don't have time for this."
"Wait! I'm sorry I was just surprised you asked me when you have your boyfriend."
"Not trying to be mean or anything but I wouldn't had asked you if I wasn't forced to choose another partner."
He looked at you slightly deflated by your confession, "Ah... I see but since you need a new partner I'll gladly take the spot for now." He said as he got up to make his chest more accessible.
"...okay... thanks I guess."
At first it started off fine., You were able to find it on him rather quickly. However when it was his turn that's when it turned into a problem. He found the first one and gradually went lower until he reached the beginning of hem of your scrub top. You expected him to stop there but when he started to put his hand lower in your top you instantly jumped back.
"Wh-what are you doing?!?!?!"
"Just doing what we were told to do."
"You were supposed to stop at 2."
"Was I? Must've misheard, my bad." If you weren't paying attention to his tone you would've thought he was being sincere just by his facial expression. Â
Not wanting to cause a scene the first ay of class you excused yourself and went  back tp your seat to think about what just happened. Was this something you would need to report or were you over exaggerating? Should you tell Eunwoo? What if the guy was right and made you get in trouble for not listening to instructions? All those questions raced through your mind until Eunwoo saw your troubled face and left his partner to comfort.
"Hey, you okay?" He asked as he placed a comforting hand on your back not caring if the professor saw.
"Yea... actually no."
"What happened?"
"I was working with that guy over and he was about to put his fingers down my shirt before I stopped him."
Eunwoo's gaze instantly hardened and if looks could kill that guy would no more. But you couldn't have your boyfriend fighting your battles for you. You gently cupped his face with your hands and made him look at you.
"Promise me your not going to do anything."
"I don't know..."
"Promise me."
"I can't promise I won't do anything but I do promise to not intervene over something you can handle."
"I guess I can take that."
"You'll have to because I am not about to just let some guy touch you like that without your permission. He's lucky I wasn't there because he surely would've been picking his teeth off the floor."
"You know, I never took you as the violent type."
"I can promise you I'm not but this is a different story."
That was the end of the conversation because your professor continued on with the rest of the lesson which was fairly easy. He dismissed the class an hour earlier since it was the first day. However when you guys went home instead of relaxing you started your clinical homework because you didn't want a repeat of what happened last night.
It was about 11 o'clock when you finished half of the assignments. Eunwoo was starting to lose focus so you decided it was time to go to bed. After you finished putting on his t-shirt and your curls in a bun, you went to join him in bed. He pulled you closer to him so that there was barely any space between the two of you. You knew this was his way of silently comforting you. He wasnât going to lie. He was looking forward to having sex with you but after todays events he knew you probably weren't going to be in the mood and just want to sleep off the days problem. You were thankful but deep down you knew you weren't going to get much sleep that night...
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the photoâs used. I got them off of Google.
A/N: Soooo sorry for the long wait. I had so much to write that Ii realized I couldnât put everything in this one post. On that note Iâm hoping I can have the next post up by next week. :)

CHAPTER TEN
Hope you enjoy! Might start this series up again so let me know what youâd like to see and if youâd like to be tagged! đ
âââââââââââââââââââââââ
Jaidaâs feet felt weighted as she plodded along the corridor. In fact her entire body did. She needed caf and, among other things, she needed peace and quiet.
But alas, as is the way of war, sheâd have to settle with yet another delinquent briefing, which would most likely result in another mission for her to loose herself in. How fun.
Peace wasnât an option as of right now, but caf certainly was. So as any ordinary Jedi going through dramatic changes to their moral code while fighting a war which had so far gone against everything they had ever been taught by their now dead master; Jaida went and got caf.
Now she stood outside the war room, significantly late, but with a half drunk cup in her hand. On any regular day, she wouldâve surely rushed in; profoundly apologising for her misconduct and directing all her attention to any matters presented to make up for her tardiness.
But instead she stood and stared at the uninspiring, off-white and dented plastoid door with almost a scowl. After a second, she took a swig and entered.
âJaida! I was wondering if you had gotten lost.â Obi-wan smiled warmly. There was a hint of a jeer in his aristocratic tone.
âOh force I really am late arenât I?â She tried to laugh, setting down her cup on a surface sheâd found (ignoring the future ring it would leave), snapping into a character that would resemble her more awake self.
âWhatâve I missed?â Jaida asked as she settled into place beside Anakin and across from Obi-wan.
The holo-projector before her displayed the usual; a barren-ish landscape with red dots across it, symbolising places sheâd most likely have to risk her and her menâs lives before moving onto the next tiny red dot.
It felt fallacious to belittle that sacrifice to so little as those red dots, especially when theyâd been planted like seeds as if theyâre cost was unimportant. To Jaida, red dots had begun to look more like casualty reports and defeated medics; so much more than a speck on a map in a heated war room in the middle of comfortable Coruscant.
But as is the way of war, she thought.
âAfter the failure to capture Grievous on Salucami, we know his ships will be in this western quadrant.â Obi-wan gestured now to the map of the galaxy, the holo map had apparently changed as Jaida was blinking, and more specifically to a highlighted section of space.
Her red dots would be minuscule by now.
âOur fear is that with Grievous now in need of a place to get fuel and rations, heâll attempt to take-over ,in effect, the next planet viable. Which in this caseâ The holomap zoomed into a reddish planet with a dark brown hue surrounding it, âWould be Yeon.â
âYeon?â Jaida asked. âWhatâs on Yeon that Grievous could want?â
Obiwan shifted his weight before speaking. Jaida sighed; sometimes she really did regret asking questions so much, especially when the answer require a deep breath.
âYeon used to be home to a powerful empire, though the dissolution of said empire left the planet vulnerable and corrupt. The wealth still remains, but without proper safeguarding. It isnât unlikely that Grievous hopes to exploit this, and use their land and people to help secure more galactic wins.â He finished with a flourish. He did always make good speeches, however short or dull.
Jaida shivered. The thought of such peaceful people once again being used as pawns in the seperatist game made her stomach turn. Is this what the galaxy had come to? Perhaps that question could be answered another day.
Anakin, who had up until this point been studying his friends demeanour and desperately trying to figure out the reason for her obvious lack of clarity, spoke next.
âOur mission is to intercept their âinvasionâ and protect the people of Yeon before Grievous can even reach them.â
âHuh, fun.â She clicked.
A few more details were flattened out, though they mostly fell on deaf ears as Jaida replayed the events of that morning.
âWeâll leave tonight, get a head start.â
Great, she thought.
The corridor felt like it would never end as Jaida carried a backpack towards her destination. It was half full of ration packs and bacta supplies: in short she had no clue what to pack for. The feeling of unpreparedness sat heavy on her chest, even as she commed Anakin to meet her in the hanger.
As she did, Echo opened the door for her, between beckoning to Hardcase that his helmet was where heâd left it. Jaida almost laughed at how mumsy Echo got the few hours before a mission; it almost matched Kixâs mother hen approach.
âWhereâre we up to?â Jaida asked, hesitantly setting down the bag beside her feet as she looked over the clones all preparing for a mission.
Echo smiled softly, giving one last side eye to his dazed brothers before giving her his full attention âAlmost ready.â
âThank you.â She could always count on Echo, and a warmth spread over her expression, secure in that fact. âWhereâs-â
âHullo!â The other jedi spoke through a cracker in his mouth. âYou good?â
âWhereâd you get that cracker?â
Anakin swallowed. Echo had to suppress his laughter at how much they resembled begrudging siblings.
âHelp me with those crates and Iâll show you.â He shrugged off, beckoning for Jaida to follow his path.
The good news was the Hardcase had managed to locate his stranded helmet, and Fives only laughed for a few minute at how he almost cried that heâd thought heâd lost it: but the bad news was that Jaida realised that she would eventually have to talk to her captain, who was standing by the edge of the hangar with Kix.
Heâd showered, and his pauldron was fixed. He looked so perfectly in control as he watchfully peered over his men. Jaida felt childish almost instantly at the anxiety balled in her stomach at just the thought of having to look at his deep and piercing eyes to talk to him. This was that feeling âcrushesâ gave you, as Anakin would explain, and Jaida didnât get âcrushesâ. Not ever, and not now.
She began to help the clones prepare what few weapons they thought they needed. There wasnât much to sort out and load up, but still among the Torrent company; it was a grand feat.
Jaida was counting reloads and ration packs when she sensed him. Rex, as you could quite obviously expect, was coming closer. She exhaled fiercely out of her nose and picked up the crate sheâd been kneeling over. âHeâs just being a captain, just be a General.â She repeated to herself like a mantra.
But when she looked up and his gaze was already on her, she froze; childish and with a crush.
âYouâre coming too?â Jaida cleared her throat and asked nonchalantly, trying desperately hard to prevent a redness forming on her cheeks.
âOf course.â Rex spoke flatly. His eyebrow twitched slightly as the words left his lips, perhaps testing her meaning.
âBut youâre still injured.â
Now he did raise an eyebrow, âIâll be fine.â
Jaida kissed her teeth, slightly annoyed at her inability to calm herself now.
She nodded as no words formed on her tongue. Nothing to express the ball of emotion in her throat. The Jedi didnât meet his eyes as she turned away.
Rex caught her arm as she went to bring her crate to the ship, but even as he stopped her pivot she was reluctant to meet his gaze.
âJaida-â He tried.
âDonât.â Jaida cut him off, finally glaring at him, then quickly skimming over the room to check if anyone was noticing their âconversationâ.
âJust promise me.â Vulnerability flashed across her face as the words left her mouth, and even those crystallised amber eyes of his couldnât make her believe he would.
Rex bit his lip and flicked back over his men across the room, before looking back at Jaidaâs ask. He nodded slowly, accepting that heâd want the exact same if it were her. Whatever it was that they shared really wasnât simple.
âI promise.â
She smiled slightly, before he let her go and she walked off to the ship.
The company left not long after, but not before Anakin and Jaida managed to bicker over who should fly the ship, then if theyâd brought the right rations, then whether or not they were ready. At least it was entertaining for the clones to watch their Generalâs be so relaxed yet so uppity.
But nonetheless, the company all fitted into their respective places and the ship left. Jaida, after bribing Anakin, was flying the ship. She thought that itâd help her concentrate ready for the next mission, although it did also mean that she wouldnât have to talk to anyone - so, plus.
The journey was rather short, but it certainly wasnât sweet; for each time Jaida didnât have to plant coordinates or watch the pressure levels in the engine, her mind slipped to the events of that morning, over and over again like torture. The guilt and worry pressed heavily against her frame; it was fair to say she was absentminded.
But they made it.
âI think weâre here boys.â Skywalker spoke over the channels.
The landing wasnât rough, but Jaidaâs vision through the ship window was too clouded to navigate properly through the thick air. The ship rocked as it hit the ground, and as the men filed our, their pilot was reluctant to follow.
The company gathered outside, Anakin knocked her shoulder; something he always used to do if she was nervous before a practice or exam. It made her finally exhale the breath sheâd been holding onto.
It was dark when they made it to the village: a small dwelling lit with vibrant lights around each hut and structure. There was a hum in the air of content, they were peaceful people, and their laughter and chatter floated through the company like a warm drink.
Jaida wanted to welcome it, she really did, but she couldnât, not when her head was this scrambled. She was still tired, and still torn between wanting to stay true to her morals and protect Rex, as well as desperately wanting to give in to her heart.
Mind over matter, her master would say. Though it seemed futile now.
Jaida followed her men into the village and tried once more to be content with the sweetness of the air. The sun was hanging low in the sky, but it still illuminated the tops of houses and slopes of hills in spite of the darkening hue encroaching. It was peace, the very kind she needed. Yet it would not breach her armoured skin.
The clones had managed to settle in rather quickly, having now taken off a few bits of armour and their helmets. They were standing and laughing with locals dotted about a wide fire pit, an area which Jaida took to be the market place.
After a cheer of babbling and exuberance calling for them, drums began playing in the background as entertainment; and the villagers seemed excited to have new guests for what looked like the first time in a while. They passed out food to the solidiers, colours of orange and green mixing on platters of fruits and perfectly cooked meat. After having a drank a few of their offered drinks, of which their alcohol quantity was unknown, Fives, Jesse and Hardcase danced to the beat as Echo and Kix tried not to laugh.
Jaida watched with an absent grin. She was resting on a crate with a cup of some sweet drink sheâd been given by a swirling child, happy to see them so relaxed. Her view shifted from the gaggle of men to her Captain, who was laughing handsomely at his brothersâ feeble attempts. She tried to ignore the pounding in her stomach growing at how his face was illuminated so perfectly by the evening sun, and how it made her tongue swell to see him aswell so at peace. But it was rather difficult to ignore, especially when she couldnât not-look.
Jaida placed her cup beside her and backed away, leaving the dancing and laughter behind her.
She found herself in the main hall of their largest structure, eyes closed in her own attempt at peace. She could still taste the wafting smell of meats and breads being cooked just a little further away. It smelt like herbs and spices she remembered only faintly from her own travels with her master. Jaida stood, staring at the painting on the closest wall to her when she wasnât instead focused on her closed eyelids. Her brain was too foggy for anything else.
It was silent. Of course the base of the drums and the echoes of her men and their hosts still made their way in and out of the open windows, but it was silent to her. So silent that when footsteps began behind her she almost jumped.
The presence made itâs way to just a step behind her and paused. It didnât take a genius to figure out who it belonged to, but still, Jaida cursed her abilities to identify the warmth and security it brought nonetheless.
âYou left?â Rexâs tone was more a question than a statement, and Jaida didnât open her eyes as he stepped and stood next to her.
âI needed to think without Fivesâ dancing distracting me.â She joked in a low tone.
âYou call that dancing?â
Jaida chuckled lightly at that, meeting his smiling eyeline.
A moment of warmth spread between the two. It was as if the complications of their feelings melted away for a few seconds, and both simply relished the presence of each other. But it was short lived.
âI cant think either.â
Her eyebrows were knitted in slight pain and sadness, something he recognised within his own head. She couldnât speak.
âDo you regret it?â Rex broke the silence between them.
âWhat?â
âThe other night.â
Jaida paused loudly, but spoke with force after a second passed. âNo. I donât. â
Silence again.
âI donât know what to do to make this⌠better.â Jaida admitted, the vulnerability in her voice making her cringe.
Jaida sighed and fixed her almost tearful expression back to that familiar neutral coldness. âI donât even understand it.â She almost whispered.
âNeither do I.â His words were barely there. âI donât think anyone ever does.â
âThen how do you know itâs real?â Jaida swallowed, blinking down her rising dejection.
Rex paused again, but spoke with purpose. He had been brave before, now was no different.
âBecause whenever you enter the room it feels like time stops. I always look for you, like seeing you will change everything. And you know what, it does; everything stops.â
Jaida was shocked to hear the confession, and it made her heart melt when she turned to face him. His face was just as creased as hers; just as pained.
He studied her eyes for a second, almost asking for permission to continue, or even to be dared to do so. But he took in a breath and carried on:
âI knew it when we were stuck in that cave, and you fell asleep against the wall. All I could think of was how perfect you looked. Force, I donât think youâve ever left my head since.â
She smiled. A wilful smile that covered all of her stern face. She knew that feeling he described and it made her stomach erupt as he spoke of it.
Her words fell as a whisper once again. âI canât ask you to risk your entire life on this. But you canât tell how much I want to.â She spoke louder now.
Rexâs eyes softened.
âWeâre at war, Jade. Some things are just worth it.â Rex paused and looked to her. Her eyes held a silent beg. âYouâre worth it.â He wanted to say, but didnât. Perhaps a part of him knew that he didnât need to.
In the dim light, he could hardly see her face at all, but the peace that had spread across it was blindingly clear. Jaida blinked.
And Rex closed the small gap between their faces and pressed his lips against hers; tender and gentle yet proud, as if it was their first. He lifted his hand to cup her face and she melted into his touch, allowing the warmth of his mouth to thaw the cold of her heart. The kiss was acceptance, it was emotion and it was thrill.
âIâm in if youâre in.â He demurred with lighthearted intention.
Jaida smiled softly, joy in her eyes that Rex only caught glimpses of, but she caught his lips in feeble ecstasy.
She broke away with a dainty smile, and Rex laughed.
âIâm in.â The jedi whispered.
He grinned again, wider now as a perfect laugh fell from Jaidaâs perfect lips.
His fingers dropped from her cheek and found hers without question, taking her hand in his as he refused to break away from her hopeful eyes.
Rex squeezed her hand, then jolted, taking her with him as he ran out of the hall and back to where the music still rumbled.
Jaida let him whisk her away, gladly.

Secrets in a Foreign Language (Part Two) - Jungkook
<<previous _ next>>
-------------------------------------------------
A week quickly passed with not much to report; no more accidental run-ins with any of Koreaâs most famous. However, you did let curiosity get the best of you and you ended up researching a little bit more about Jeon Jungkook, and specifically his relationship with fellow idol, Kim Cho-hee. Well⌠fake relationship. Though when you saw pictures of the two of them together you honestly couldnât believe it was all an act. They really were constantly photographed together; holding hands, snuggled up in booths, having dinner, coming in and out of each otherâs apartments. They actually seemed happy together in those pictures, so much so that you almost had to pinch yourself to make sure you hadnât dreamt the whole interaction at Jungkookâs home⌠you definitely hadnât though.
Soon it was Tuesday of the next week at 2 oâclock; Jungkookâs place marked on your work schedule again. You didnât think much of it though, remembering the last time you were there he made sure to confirm the time so he wouldnât be there at the same time you were.
Or⌠so you thought.
When you unlocked the door, you were immediately met with Jungkookâs broad back facing you as he sat on his leather couch. He had a pair of headphones on and a game controller in his hand, speaking Korean (loudly) into the tiny microphone attached to the headphones; the tv playing what looked like a shooting video game.
âYAHH!â he suddenly yelled, throwing his arms up in the air as the word âVICTORYâ appeared on the screen before him.
You were so confused.
It was Tuesday, right? At 2pm? But you didnât bother checking. You knew it was. Why did it seem you were always questioning yourself about the time of day in this house?
The front door slamming shut made Jungkook whip his head around, pulling one headphone from one of his ears at the sight of you.
âOh! (y/n)! Hello!â
He smiled widely at you.
You cocked your head.
âHello, Jungkook. Wh-what are youâŚâ you trailed off, figuring asking what he was doing here was a silly question. It was his own home after all. So instead you opted for,
âWhy-why are you here?â
Which honestly wasnât much better.
âAh, I have the day off and just wanted to relax at home,â he shrugged, a blush forming on his pale face, âI promise I will stay out of your way. Do you⌠do you mind? If I am here?â
You couldnât help but snort, not believing he was actually asking you if it was okay⌠this was his house.
âI think I should be the one asking you thatâŚâ you replied.
He pulled his headphones all the way down and rested them around his neck, then turned his body more to face you, his arms laying on the back of the couch.
âWhat? Of course itâs okay you are here. I wouldnât stop you from doing your job.â
You gave him a small nod and with that decided to start cleaning in the kitchen.
To your surprise, Jungkook got up from the couch and followed you there.
As you set your supplies down on the counter, he opened the refrigerator and took out a bottle of water. Then he turned to you.
âWant one?â
You shook your head in response.
âNo, thanks though.â
He leaned against the island and unscrewed the cap, letting the water fall into his open mouth. Meanwhile you peered around the kitchen, which was honestly the cleanest you had ever seen it in the few times youâve been here to do your job. You struggled to even find any surface to wipe down. Usually there was at least something.
âSo how are you?â Jungkook suddenly asked, taking a sip from his water again.
Your face started feeling hot knowing he was watching you. Why was he watching you? It made you nervous, especially since there seemed to literally be nothing for you to clean in this room. It looked even cleaner now than after you were done cleaning it! You were so confused.
âUh, Iâve been good. And, um, you? How have you been?â
You finally looked back up at him, a sheepish grin on his lips.
âFine, thank you.â
There was a pause where you two just stared at each other. You really took in his face for what felt like the first time. A small mole under his bottom lip, a rounded tip nose, he had put blue at the ends of his long black hair, the bangs of it falling over his big dark brown eyes. He smiled again, dimples becoming apparent on his round cheeks.
If your face could get any warmer, youâre pretty sure it would have caught fire by now.
You quickly looked away and cleared your throat.
âWell, Iâll be in here,â he walked back towards the couch and sat down, âLet me know if you need anything, (y/n).â
Then he gave you a thumbs up and put his headphones back on, turning back to the game.
You left the room and went down the hall to the main bedroom, figuring maybe he just hadnât used the kitchen at all this week. He did say he wasnât here that often after all.
But, to your surprise, the bedroom was in pretty immaculate shape as well. The hard wood floors were almost sparkling clean, the windows were so clear you had to shield your eyes from the afternoon sun, and you thought you noticed subtle streaks from a vacuum on the fluffy grey rug. At least you were able to dust the nightstands and desk in the corner (though if you were being honest there wasnât much dust to begin with) and straighten out the sheets and blankets on the bed. Following that you moved on to the master bathroom which was also strangely spotless; you just wiped down the double sinks and toilet with disinfectant and headed to the guest room.
No longer surprised, but still very confused, it was the same in there, too. It didnât not only not look lived in, but it also looked like it had been cleaned really recently. What on earth was going on?
You didnât want to think too much into it though, it wasnât your business and frankly you were relieved it was an easy job today considering Jungkookâs place was always the last on your schedule.
Once you felt satisfied with what you could do, you lugged your cleaning supplies back into the main area of the house. Jungkook no longer had headphones on and was playing what looked like Mario Kart. He noticed you walk in.
âHey,â he briefly looked away from the race, âare you finished?â
You gestured to the room he was in, the living room.
âJust have to do this room,â you replied.
He paused the game and looked around for a moment, then back at you. He shrugged.
âLooks pretty clean to me.â
This room, too??
You were SO perplexed and suddenly worried. Did Jungkook not want you in his house for a long time? Is that why he had had it so obviously cleaned before you arrived? Was he mad about the last time you were here? Was he worried you were going to talk about what you had heard that day? Was he going to contact your company and not have you clean his place anymore? But why wouldnât he have just done that in the first place? And again, the same question arose in your mind⌠why was he here when he had told you he wouldnât be? What on earth was his end game?
Wow your overthinking was almost making you dizzy.
âO-Okay, I guess my work here is done thenâŚâ you trailed off, strolling over to the front door.
âHey (y/n)?â Jungkook saying your name made you stop in your tracks.
You turned back to him.
âYeah?â
âWas my house your last for the day?â
You paused then nodded, even more lost as to why he was asking this.
He looked down and scratched the back of his neck.
âWould you- do you want to stay and maybe play a game⌠with me?â
He held up the Nintendo Switch controller, his pale cheeks changing into a slight shade of pink.
Wait⌠what?
You cocked your head, imaging your face was all kinds of puzzled looking right now. He immediately caught on.
âAh no no, you donât have to, sorry, if you donât want to or you have somewhere to be⌠I just thought maybe, I could use company? I think thatâs the right words?â
He seemed flustered suddenly and well, you found it rather endearing.
âUm, no I donât have anywhere to beâŚâ you set your things down by the front door, âIâll play with you.â
A few games couldnât hurt, right? He invited you after all, and you were now technically off the clock. He smiled wide and bounced up and down a couple times in excitement like a little kid. It made you smile as you took the other controller from him and sat down cautiously, making sure to keep a bit of distance between the two of you.
âHave you played before?â he asked you.
You couldnât help but scoff. You were, in fact, a master at Mario Kart.
âHave I played before? Ha! You may regret asking me to stay when I kick your butt.â Your confidence taking you by surprise and spilling out in the form of words.
Jungkook laughed and shook his head.
âAisshh, weâll see about that.â
It was a close race. But in the end, your cockiness was thrown back in your face. Jungkook got first place, his character standing on the podium accepting the gold trophy.
A pout was on your lips and Jungkook glanced at you from the side with a grin on his face.
Your competitiveness was coming out.
âRematch?â you questioned.
Jungkook smiled at you, his nose scrunching in the process.
âOkay, if you really think you can win.â
The second race was close, but again he beat you. Same with the third. And the fourth. You were almost going to give up. Almost.
But you didnât, and finally, after the fifth attempt, your kart zoomed over the checkered finish line just barely before Jungkookâs. You threw your arms in the air.
âYes!!! Finally!! God, I thought I would never beat you.â You chuckled and shook your head.
âYeah, that last banana really fucked me over,â he responded, looking down and avoiding your gaze, a small smile evident on his thin pink lips, âShould have watched where I was going.â
You then narrowed your eyes at him suspiciously.
âWaiiiit a minute⌠did you let me win that one??â you suddenly accused.
Jungkook finally met your gaze, his eye wide.
âWhat? No! No way! You beat me! I swear!â
It was at that moment when you learned Jeon Jungkook was a terrible liar.
A huge smile spread across your face and you pointed a finger at him.
âYou did let me win!â
He brought his knees up to his chest and hid his face in his hands while laughing and shaking his head.
âNo, no! I swear! You won, you won!â
He looked up again, his eyes squinting from how big his smile was, his face bright red.
You let out an exasperated sigh and threw your head back on the couch cushion.
âHow many games is it going to take for me to beat you fair and square??â
At that moment, Jungkookâs phone started vibrating on the cushion between you two. Surprised by the noise, you instinctively looked down. The name âCho-heeâ with a pink heart appeared on the screen, her face blowing a kiss as the contact picture. You quickly looked away as Jungkook silenced the vibration.
âShe, um, made me put that picture and her name like that, with the heart, in case something happened or someone, like, got ahold of my ph-phone somehowâŚâ he tried to explain, clearly nervous, his smile gone, his face going from red to white real quick.
You looked down and held up a hand.
âYouâre good, I donât need an explanation, itâs⌠not my business.â
There was an awkward silence before you decided to break it, coming to the conclusion that you had definitely overstayed your welcome.
âWell, you should probably answer that, and I should head out anyway,â you stood up; Jungkook did, too.
You smiled at him while walking to the front door.
âI had fun. Thank you⌠for asking me to play.â
He smiled back awkwardly.
âI did, too. MaybeâŚâ he hesitated, âMaybe next time you will beat me.â
Next time? Would there be a next time?
âMaybe.â
His phone vibrated loudly in his hand again.
Yep, that was your cue.
âGoodbye, Jungkook.â
He watched you open the door.
âBye (y/n). Iâll see you later, okay?â
You let the door shut behind you.

67. Lisa x Reader
*The Job of a lifetime*
2000+ words
Warnings: cursing
When you had first shared your plan to move to the capital with your mother, for some reason the first words that left her mouth were: âSpring days in Seoul are the most enjoyable period of the year, when the cherry trees blossom and the air is crisp.â Her eyes melting into small crescent moons, a kind smile illuminating her soft features, she knew it meant that from that moment on she would find herself alone in your once always loud and full childhood home, but she didnât mind, in fact she was proud, the youngest of three leaving the nest just after graduation. Ever since you were a toddler your mom had done everything possible to make sure you and your two brothers could live a life that made you happy, money and success had never meant much to any of you, it was always about doing something you loved. Thatâs why your mom had spent fifteen years of her life picking you up from dance class in her rusty old green beetle from Monday to Friday, attending every recital, sewing your clothes together, applying cream to your bruised legs. She knew thatâs how you wanted to live, always on your tiptoes, sometimes on your knees, often on your backside, and so she supported you.
Now her kind words were replaying in your head on a loop, your heartbeat ringing in your ears echoed by your feet hitting the concrete at full speed. You struggled to find a reason as to way karma was battering you so hard, on the morning of probably the most important day of your life so far, not only had you poured spoiled milk onto your cereal, you had also been left stranded by your bus because of a punctured tire. You hated running, you truly believed there was a specific ring in hell for those who enjoyed the satanic activity of jogging, yet on this day you were running like no woman had ever run before. By some divine miracle you had managed to push through to the final interview round for a position as first dance assistant to one of the most renowned choreographers in the country, hundreds of extremely talented dancers had applied for the sought after position, today only twelve were left, eleven if you didnât make it before the doors to the dance studio closed. By a stroke of luck you reached those doors as attendance was being called, bowing as you entered the room you zoomed pass the examiners, swiftly joining the eleven other girls, their gazes on you like starving vultures, you tried to control your breathing as you sat down on the last free plastic chair, in the corner where the huge dance mirror met the wall, you held your tattered dance bag to your chest, trying to regain your composure.
You dared to lift your eyes from the ground only as your name was called, a crystal clear voice cutting through the tense atmosphere, raising your hand you tried to muster up some confidence, failing as soon as your eyes met the ones of the owner of said voice. Lisa Manoban, in a simple white crop top and high wasted jeans her lean figure seemed to glow, a strict expression plastered on her stoic face, she scanned you from head to toe, you thought you heard her kiss her teeth at you as she sighed, âGive me one reason not to kick you out this second for arriving late.â
Tilting your head slightly you bit back a smile, Lisaâs eyebrows lifting in surprise,
âYou havenât seen me dance.â
A sharp gasp came from one of the girls sitting next to you, Lisaâs lips pressing in a thin line, eyes piercing through you, she gave you a quick nod, sitting down herself on the wooden floor,
âYouâre going last Y/SN.â
You couldnât hide the small smile that appeared on your face as you heard your surname coming from her mouth, and unknowingly to you, it had also caught someone elseâs attention. Being last was never fun, your nerves rising as you carefully observed every girl stand in the middle of the room, performing a freestyle dance to a song of Lisaâs choice, you could read the anxiety in their eyes as the most complicated tunes poured out of the speakers, unrecognizable beats filling the space, Lisaâs eyes wouldnât leave their body for one millisecond, her dark pupils following every single movement, as if she was looking for something very specific. Once the girl finished, she would be sent back to her place with a court nod, not a word coming from the stone-cold figure of Lisa Manoban.
It didnât seem to go any differently as you stepped up to the small white X taped onto the floor, your fingers trembling as they played with the laces hanging from your sides, your mom had helped you pick out the outfit last night via video call, her encouraging words coming back to your mind, you took a few steady breaths as the older woman in front of you pressed play on her phone, you closed your eyes as the melodic notes typical of south Asian music filled your ears, your feet seemed to move even before your mind told them to, letting your nervousness fall off your body in fluid movements you focused on the strange melody that seemed to run through your veins, your focused gaze falling on Lisa after every twirl, you felt your body as light as a feather as you made the small space around you your own, ending your moves inches away from Lisa and her team. As the music came to halt you found yourself on the ground, slightly out of breath, your fingers hanging delicately from your collarbones, you smiled widely, bowing twice before making your way back to your seat, aware of a pair of eyes glued to your figure.
A woman in her late fifties took you quite by surprise as she invited all of you to wait outside, the selected candidate would be informed straight away. You all made your way out, a few girls breaking down in tears as soon as the door was shut behind you, others calling their parents, you made your way to the water dispenser just at the end of the corridor, pouring yourself a cup, you couldnât help but chew on your lower lip, your nerves slowly coming back, the cool water alleviating your stress ever so slightly, you hadnât even finished the cup when a tall figure appeared next to you, patting you on the back, Lisa didnât even stop as she made her way out of the building, her words making you lose your grasp on the half empty cup of water that slipped through your fingers,
âSee you on Monday in my studio, 9 am sharp Y/n, youâre late, youâre fired.â
Your name was echoed by the same woman who had asked you to leave the room, her gaze falling on you as also did that of eleven girls who had just missed out on the opportunity of a lifetime.
Monday morning you opened the doors to your dream job precisely at half past eight, wanting to avoid at all costs any sort of tardiness, you knew you had a lot to make up for, you greeted the two young girls at the reception desk with a big smile, you introduced yourself briefly, which seemed to take them by surprise before making your way to the fourth floor, a welcome email had described pretty well what your job entailed, where you had to go and the hours you were required to put in, passing by your bossâs office you were quite surprised to see it empty, as you knew classes didnât start until half nine. Curiosity got the best of you as you started exploring the various studios and classes on the floor, all of them more modern than any dance studio you had ever practiced in, that was to be expected knowing how much these kids payed to enter the dance academy. As you walked along the empty corridor the faintest of sound reached your ears, following it once again driven by sheer curiosity you opened another door onto the biggest practice room you had seen yet, in the middle of it a slim figure sat on the ground, long legs sprawled out in front of her, enveloped in a pair of black cargo pants, you could tell she was out of breath by the way her back raised at a fast pace, head hanging low, a cascade of raven hair falling along her shoulders.
âDoesnât tying your hair up sound like a good idea while practicing?â
The older girl didnât even flinch at the sound of your voice, her head moving slightly to peek at her watch, not even sparing a quick glance in your direction,
âYouâre early, I wasnât expecting that.â
Shuffling in front of her you held your hand out, your eyes searching for hers, she finally looked up at you, the faintest of smiles on her face as she grabbed onto your hand, your palm almost tingling at the feeling of her warm skin against your own.
âIâm full of surprises miss Manoban.â
Struggling to keep up with her fast pace, you followed her all the way to her office, your gaze following her every movement as she sat down gracefully, wiping her slightly damp face with a small white cloth, she pulled out a lipstick from one of her drawers, reapplying it carefully, she smacked her lips twice before leaning back into her chair, her intense gaze scrutinizing your still standing figure from head to toe.
âYou know Y/N, youâre the first ever dancing assistant in the history of the academy not to actually have graduated from here, some people arenât very pleased with that, so I hope you will prove yourself.â
Taken aback by the sudden statement you smiled at the teacher, almost feeling sorry for her, you could see the hardships she had gone through just by looking into her chocolate eyes,
âYou see miss, I have nothing to prove, I am not here to prove myself, Iâm here to work hard, and earn your respect, but let me get this straight, I donât have to show to anyone that I deserve to be here, because I could tell, that those eleven girls at the interview last week had no idea what having to build yourself up from zero means. If people actually got into the academy because of talent and perseverance, then rest assured that I would have been top of the class, but since one can enter only because of money, background and privilege, I have had to find other ways to learn.â
Lisaâs eyes widened at your words, her mouth opening slightly before she shook her head, keeping her opinion to herself she got on her feet, her hands resting on her hips, her whole aura expressing pure confidence,
âThatâs why I chose you Y/n, I think you and I will get on great.â
Sauntering towards you her arms crossed in front of her chest, she stopped just mere inches away from your face, the smallest of smiles painted on her kind features, her long fingers delicately moving a strand of your hair behind your ear, your cheeks burning at the closeness,
âAnd you can call me Lisa.â
Working with Lisa proved itself harder than you had first imagined, although the job itself was physically demanding it was Lisaâs attitude that seemed to tire you out the most, the girl was the most hot and cold person you had ever met. She could go from messing around with you in her office for an entire hour to becoming an impenetrable fortress during her lessons, never allowing herself to smile in front of the younger students, her stone cold face and harsh criticism making it very easy for them to dislike her.
Itâs because of that exact reason you found yourself staying in the almost empty studio with a handful of kids after midnight, not feeling comfortable enough to ask Lisa for help they would come to you, knowing the older woman would only accept perfection, some of the kids needed an extra hand, a friendly smile and some encouraging words to achieve that. The late hours unfortunately started to take a toll, your mom had been the first to point it out, she had come to visit you one weekend and immediately noticed how your cheeks seemed more hollow than the last time she saw you and you were dragging your feet more than you used to, laughing it off you blamed it on the cityâs food, because nobody could ever cook like your mother, of course she hadnât bought it, but you had managed to send her back home before she got too inquisitive on the matter.
The second person to notice your exhaustion was none other than your boss. Lisa had come to pay a lot of attention to you in the last couple of months, more than she would ever like to admit, she had noticed how your feet suddenly didnât seem as light as they were a couple of weeks prior, your twirls werenât as precise, and your smile not as bright as the first time she saw you dance. The situation unfortunately escalated one morning in the middle of august, the city heat had rendered life quite unbearable, and the fatigue that rattled your bones felt heavier than ever before. Lisa had asked you to help her come up with a new routine for one of her advanced classes, and so you found yourself spinning around the studio at seven in the morning, Lisaâs eyes trained on your figure, she was about to tell you to slow down when she noticed your moves get sloppier, your legs shaking, your vision started going blurry and just before your legs gave out underneath you, strong arms wrapped around your waist, her sweet scent overpowering your confused senses as she slowly pulled you to the ground with her. Lisa tried her best not to go into panic mode as she held your limp body in her arms, she rested your back against her chest, one of her hands stroked your soft hair gently as her other passed you a bottle of water.
âItâs okay Y/N just drink some water, donât try to get up yet.â
As your vision got clearer, so did your mind, and soon enough you were very aware of Lisaâs heart beating against your back, her fingers shaking ever so lightly as she caressed you.
âIâm sorry⌠I didnât mean to scare you.â
Your soft voice made Lisaâs insides tingle, resting her forehead against your shoulder a sudden wave of emotions seemed to crash onto her, all she could think about, all she could hear, see and feel was you, her lips millimetres away from your bare shoulder blades. Overwhelmed, she got up on her feet, ignoring your lost gaze trailing after her,
âDamn Y/N you need to look after yourself, I canât always be on the look out for you, making sure you donât pass out during my lessons. Just imagine the shit show if you were to leave me to do these classes on my own.â
She hated herself for the venom that spewed out of her mouth sometimes, she didnât quite know why her mind seemed to find the worst way possible to deal with her emotions, it was usually bratty teens that would face the rear end of her bitterness and that didnât affect her as much, but in that moment, as you struggled to lift yourself off the floor, tears brimming in the corner of your sweet eyes, Lisa absolutely loathed herself.
âIf you werenât so busy being an ice-cold bitch and actually let your students be students I wouldnât have to spend every fucking night working extra hours to make up for your lack of professionality.â
Your words bounced off the mirrors of the practice room, Lisa froze in shock at your revelation as you stormed out of the studio, regretting your harsh words as soon as you had said them, you told the girls at reception that you would be taking a couple of days off due to personal reasons. Once at home you gathered your thoughts, realizing the only reason Lisaâs words had gotten to you was because you really, really liked her, you loved being by her side every day, spending your lunch breaks together in her office, dancing so close to her that your bodies almost became one. You had fallen, pretty hard, and by the way she had spoken to you earlier, you figured it was a one-sided kind of thing, and that hurt pretty bad.
You spent the entire day doing absolutely nothing, you wanted to rest but your thoughts were racing at a hundred miles per hour, it was late at night when you actually managed to settle down, wearing your favourite sweatpants and a sports bra you hacked away at a tub of vanilla ice cream, watching some random nature documentary on Netflix. The insistent ringing of your doorbell interrupted your much needed chill time, and unwillingly you trudged to the front door, your face turning pale as the person who had occupied your mind for the entire day stood in front of you, her usual Jansport bag hanging from her shoulder, black bangs sticking to her forehead due to the heat outside, her chocolate eyes staring apologetically out you.
You tried to shut the door immediately, trying your hardest to avoid the imminent confrontation, but Lisa jammed her foot inside, a small yelp escaping her as the door trapped her leg. Swinging it back open immediately to check if she was alright, Lisa took advantage of your moment of weakness and stormed in, trapping you between the wall and herself, her eyes staring directly into your own.
âLet me apologize please.â
The fast rise and fall of her chest gave away the fact that she was just as nervous as you were, her pearly white teeth sunk into her lower lip, your pupils following her every move, Lisa took a big breath, trying to steady her nerves,
âIâm sorry, the kids explained to me what has been going on, and Iâm truly sorry, you were right, I was being unprofessional.â
Her sincere gaze suddenly became hard for you to hold, your head lowering as her face inched closer,
âBut thereâs a reason for that Y/N.â
Her fingers shook ever so slightly as they caressed your face, reaching your chin she tilted your head, her lips so close to yours you could feel her warmth breath,
âI like you like crazy.â
You couldnât stop yourself even if you wanted to, closing the gap between your two faces, your lips enveloping Lisaâs soft ones, fingers tangling in her silky waves, you sighed into the kiss, eliciting a small hum of appreciation from the taller girl, whose arms wrapped around your waist tightly, her cold fingers grazing the small of your back. You pulled away from her just when breathing became an issue, your lips tingling. Lisaâs fingers desperately searching for yours, bringing them to her lips and placing the softest kisses on each of your knuckles, a huge smile spread on your face, your cheeks almost hurting.
âI think I might like you too.â

More than Family - pt. 3
A/N: It was such a long time since I had written a fic but I am so glad I did because wow. This was so fun to write and I hope you like it. Also I messed with the timeline a bit, so fuck it. I can write whatever I want. Woo, letâs go.
XX
Sirius was pacing in front of you, rubbing his chin and running his hands through his dense hair. He stopped, clasped his hands together and pressed his fingers on his chin. He stared at you, then zoomed out into his thoughts and then back at you.Â
âI-â he started but the racket out on the hall caused his attention to avert from you. He looked at his watch and cursed under his breath. âShit! Theyâre early.â he ran to the hall than back at you, grabbed you under his arm and poofed you away.Â
You felt sick to your stomach as you had appeared in an unfamiliar room, bending over as anxiety came over you.
âSorry, kid. They canât know youâre here.â he led you to the bed and sat you down. âItâs an ugly side affect, you get used to it.â
âUgh.â you let out a groan. âI donât like magic.â you said as he let out a laugh.Â
âIt can be a bugger sometimes, yes.â he knelt down to you and looked at you a bit sadly. âI will be right back, kid. Weâll figure this out but for now, nobody canât know about this.â
âCOUSIN!â both of you heard a shout from the hallway.Â
âDonât cause any racket and just... wait... please...â he tilted his head. âFor me.â he started to plead you with his eyes as you rolled your own.Â
âFine.â
----
Sirius did not trust you enough to leave the doors unlocked or to leave you without the silencing charm on your room but you were there, in his room, snooping.Â
For the first few days you were kept in, you tried to avoid any kind of snooping, seeing as it was respectful to not touch his private things but it has gotten more dull as the day passed slowly and you had nothing to do than see him by the end of the day.Â
He apparated in your room and found you lying on his bed, staring at the ceiling. You didnât jump, nor look at him but he knew you were furious at him.Â
âI brought you a book.â he lifted the object in his hand and started walking towards you.Â
You replied with silence.Â
âI know this is an odd situation between you and me but we will talk, I pr-â
âPromise?â you finished instead of him. âLike you had promised four days ago?â you snapped, still not bothering to look at him.Â
âItâs not easy, kid.âÂ
âI know itâs not easy.â you finally shot your head at him, glaring under your furrowed eyebrows. You jumped to your feet and started pacing. âYou think youâre confused?! Imagine me being a kid and not knowing about half the things that happened in my childhood?! Imagine finding out that my mum is not my mum and my dad is not my dad and thinking that your dad was my dad because he was so fatherly-â
âThat was not my father.â he snapped as well. He had no tolerance about his family. âMy father was cruel, evil and a pain in the arse.â
âHe was the closest thing I had to a family.â your eyebrows started to tremble, as well as your lips. Sirius closed his mouth to argue. âHe gave me the photo of you and James. He told me about my mother. He told me about you- everything about you! He said you were a good man! A fair man, honest, brave, daring and then I meet you and itâs like... like youâre nothing of that!! Iâm here! Trapped like a prisoner and all I want is to talk!â
Sirius stood up and faced you his back. âNo.â he mumbled under his breath, shutting his eyes with force and gritting his teeth. âYouâre lying. That was not my father.â he growled. âHe could never say any of those things you had just said.âÂ
âHe spoke of you plenty.â
âHow would you know? You said he only watched you from afar!â
âBut he didnât!â you shouted. âI knew there was more because I keep getting glimpses in my dreams about him and I playing chess and this boy- this boy that looks so much like you and he has such a nice smile- and...and... I have memories of him too! I just wish I could remember them because all I get is glimpses and as soon as they come they disappear! Thatâs why I need you!â
âReg...â he mumbled under his breath, finally turning back to you and watching you with sorrowful, regretful eyes. âHe-â
âWhere in the bloody hell are you cousin!â the two of you heard a shout from the hallway, both glancing at the door.
âNo.â you said as you saw him apologise with his eyes. âNo, you canât just leave-â you started to run to him but he was already gone. âUGH!â you screamed and ran to his bed, screaming into the pillow.Â
You were trying to remember the man from your dreams, the boy. You tried to focus on him, find out more about him but nothing came to light.Â
But then you remembered. You were in his room. His room.Â
You sat up and looked at his dark brown desk, which started to fall apart throughout the years. You walked to it, sitting on the creaking chairs and running your fingertips on the surface of the desk. You felt cuts, splinters that wanted to dig into your skin. At the very edge of the desk you saw initials- his initials.Â
S. O. B.Â
Except that the O and B were crossed over multiple times. You quickly averted your attention from there and looked at the wall in front of you. It was connected to the desk, with four small drawers on each side but in the middle it was an empty space, filled with polaroids, photos and writings. You saw quill and ink on the side, snorting a bit. âWho still uses a quill, old man?â you took the large feather in your hand and observed it. It was extremely light but what you did not know was what the feather hid.Â
The Marauders - was what it was carved in wood, under the polaroid of three young boys.Â
â Something pulled you away- something strong and powerful, letting you land on your 3rd grade classroom, listening about triangles. It was you and you were such a child back then.Â
â(y/n)?â you heard your teacher call you from the door and you looked up. âYour uncle is here to pick you up.â she smiled and you could see yourself radiate with joy.Â
And you couldnât remember that day. You couldnât remember anything about this specific memory that seemed to be hidden somewhere in your brain.Â
Your little self ran out of the class with her backpack larger than her body and you saw the boy beaming at you.Â
âHereâs my Princess!â he laughed as you ran into his arms and he lifted you up, spinning you around. You giggled joyfully as he placed you back down and took your backpack off your shoulders. âLetâs take this heavy thing off.âÂ
âWhere are we going!? Where are we going?â you jumped over-excitedly.Â
âItâs a surprise.â he winked at you, putting your backpack onto his shoulder and taking your small hand into his. âI asked the teacher about your progress. She said you had improved quite lovely.â he looked down on you.
âI listened to you. I did my homework every day after school and I didnât leave the desk until I had finished it.â
âAnd you did it all by yourself?âÂ
âNo. Dad had to help me with geography.â you started to get a bit upset and he seemed to notice it.
âGeography is a bugger sometimes.â he smiled. âThereâs nothing wrong with getting some help. And mathmatics?â
âIâm top of my class.â
âThatâs wonderful!â he laughed. âIâm proud of you.âÂ
âI just wish youâd come more often, Uncle.â you started to get upset again. âGranpa is fun and all but he keeps beating me at chess and-â
The man by your side let out a laugh. âGranpa was never keen on losing, kid. He did the same to me and my brother.âÂ
You stopped in your tracks and so did he. He had realised what he had said and shut his eyes regretfully. âYou mean my real dad?â you looked up at him, looking up at him with watery eyes.Â
The man knelt down to you and cupped your chin.Â
âWhy isnât he here?â
âHe- uhm.â he stopped, trying to find the right words. âHeâs busy.â
âI want to meet him. I want to know who he is.âÂ
âNo, you donât kid. Heâs extremely busy.â he started to get a bit frustrated and bitter.Â
âBusy with what?â
âWith Marauders.â he rolled his eyes and gritted his teeth in anger. âWith him and Marauders- as they call themselves- they come before family.â he continued to speak bitterly and saw how awfully that affected you, so he fixed his thin-lipped smile into a beam and cupped your cheeks. âBut we donât do this here. Me and granpa wonât do this to you. Family comes first, (y/n). Weâre not like your father. We choose family.â he kissed your forehead and pulled you into a hug. âÂ
You woke up from the memory, emotionally exhausted. You felt relieved and calm but so sad. You had no clue who the man was but how he made you feel was as close to family as you could get.Â
You pushed yourself from the chair and started to dig around the drawers.Â
Whoever this man was, he was right. Sirius didnât care about family, he showed you that perfectly clear just about now, when he kept you in this room for four days and not telling you a single thing. He didnât want to let you go but he didnât want to tell you what is going on either. The fact is, you didnât care about him anymore. You wanted to know more about your uncle. You wanted to know about his brother because he was there, you just canât remember.Â
There must be a reason he stopped visiting you- your uncle but you had to find him. You need to know but you couldnât find a single thing about him except a photo of him and Sirius, somewhere far in the drawer. No name, no information.Â
You ran to the bed and started to look for anything that could tell you something about him. You dropped on your knees and looked under the bed.
Nothing.Â
âUgh!â you let out a desperate groan and slammed your face on the rug.Â
He forgot to lock the door.- you heard something in your ear and you quickly turned around to see who it was.Â
There was nobody but you and the voice. You looked around and around with your heart thriving on adrenalin.Â
Follow me. - it said from the door.
âProbably a bad idea.â you told yourself, staring at the door with wide eyes. âBut at least itâs some idea.â you stood up and continued to stare at it.Â
Trust me. - it continued and it was as if somebody took a hold of your hand, something so familiar and safe that brought the man back into your head; his piercing eyes and his wonderful smile.
And you could. You could walk to the door without feeling afraid anymore... with feeling him by your side.Â
You put your hand on the handle and prayed to whoever was with you that the door was unlocked. With a twist you found out that Sirius left the door unlocked.Â
You peeked on the hallway, hearing voices from a room far away. You looked both ways and before you could decide, something inside of you said right and so you did.Â
You tiptoed down the hall and just stopped.Â
Here. Look to your right. - it said and so you did.Â
You put your hand on the door handle but it didnât budge. âItâs locked.â
Try again.
âWhy would I try again if itâs-â the door just opened and you felt a shiver run down your spine. âOh... yeah no. Iâm not doing this ghost thing. I watched way too many horror movies to know where this is going.â you started to back away but it was as if somebody caught you and whispered.Â
âDonât you want to know about me?â
You turned around with a snap and started back away, staring at the empty space where that voice came from and before you had realised it, you were in the room.
It was similar to Siriusâ. The bed, the desk, the cupboards, wardrobes, window... everything was placed on the same location as Siriusâ room. The only difference was that everything was covered in white sheets.Â
You looked at the empty hallway then back at the room. âFuck it.â you mumbled and closed the door in case somebody passes by. You did it as quietly as you could but even you couldnât avoid the smallest creaks the old wood had caused.Â
You pulled the sheets off everything. His bed, his desk, his wardrobe- everything. You even opened the window to get some light in the room before you decided to search through it. His name wasnât hard to find in his own room.Â
Regulus Arcturus Black.Â
â âThis is her?â he said as he walked behind your grandfather. His eyes were still, observing every inch of you.Â
âThis is her.â your grandfather smiled as he moved another piece of chess down the board. â(y/n).â he looked at you as you looked at him. âThis is your uncle, my son, Regulus Arcturus Black.â he moved another piece as you looked up at the man. âHeâs going to take care of you when Iâm gone.â â
The memory left as soon as it came and a tear had fallen down your cheek.Â
âRegulus.â you smiled to yourself and started to look through his things.Â
His room was much more neater and organised than Siriusâ. Everything was much more well kept, which you could see on his desk that had no scratch, nor carvings in it. It was smooth and tidy, much more darker than Siriusâ.Â
You started to open the drawers but there was nothing there except some letters, school papers and books. Until something in your gut feeling told you to turn around and walk to his night stand.Â
Without a doubt you did so. Running to it and opening the smallest of the drawers. There was a box, quite larger than the drawer and for a moment there it confused you because how could a drawer so small hold a box this big.Â
You opened it and found many letters, many photos of you as a child.Â
You sat down on the bed and started going through it.Â
âDear Uncle,Â
I had finally finished it. I hope you come home soon! I canât wait to see you again!
(y/n)Â â
You read with a photo of you holding your elementary school certificate. You looked at the date and saw that that was only 3 years ago.Â
âIâve known you three years ago.â you told yourself. âWhere are you?â you dug through it, trying to find any evidence of him.Â
You found another photo instead, a moving one. You were 16 years old- that was a year ago- when the two of you were filming him eating ice cream and when you appeared on the photo frame.Â
You felt shocked to the bone.Â
â âHey, Reg!â you laughed, holding camera in your hand. âSay cheese!âÂ
âCheese!â he smiled brightly. âLet me see!â he said as soon as he heard the camera click. âWhy on Earth hadnât you told me I have ice cream on my face?âÂ
âNow where would the fun be in that, Uncle?â you smiled.
âHave some respect for the elderly!â he gasped over-dramatically.
âWhat are you? 60?âÂ
âOh, dear God no.â he laughed, wrapping his arm around you and walking along side you.Â
âThough I see some grey hair making appearance.âÂ
âOi, kid. Donât make me throw you in the water.âÂ
âIâd like to see you try.â
âAre we going to have to duel?â
âYou did learn me a few tricks, havenât you?â you smiled, showing him a glimpse of your wand from the hem of your pants. âWhen pupil outteaches the master.â
âDream on, kid.â â
You opened your eyes wide. âI knew magic.â you blurted out. âHe thought me magic!âÂ

Navi: Chapter 1 â Chapter 2 â Chapter 3 â Chapter 4 â Chapter 5 â Chapter 6 â Chapter 7 (7/7)
There were things you never thought you would have to do, things that made you realise the absurdity of your position, the complete stupidity of the circumstances.
Real people donât need to handle this. Real people live banal lives, date, fall in love, break up. Or get married, have kids, grow up and grow old together.
Real people arenât awake at four am because their crushâs date is mewling from the opposite side of the apartment.
You didnât want to ask yourself questions.
You wanted to sleep and possibly wake up cold. That is, dead.
She mewled. Of course, not actually cat sounds but rather that kind of small, shy squeals that usually mean âIâm shy but I love whatever this person is doingâ.
You didnât allow yourself to dig into that.
You just turned to the other side and pressed the spare pillow against your head, trying to mute the sounds â and maybe mute your thoughts in the process.
Maybe accidentally suffocate yourself.
It was ridiculous.
This had happened about a month ago, with reversed roles â you being the squealer and Seokjin being the unfortunate listener.
You wondered whether he had felt just like you were feeling at that moment.
You thought about wearing your headphones and blasting some music. You thought about rushing out of the apartment and smashing the door on your way out.
You knew you had no one to call, no one who could rescue you at four am on a winter night, sheltering you from the shards of your heart precipitating and stabbing your guts.
Maybe you were allucinating. Maybe it was the sound of your pulse getting too loud because you didnât trust yourself breathing without emitting a sob.
No, it was the headboard. There was no other way to explain the thumping.
You turned and grabbed your phone, sending a hopeless shout in the void. Just a text to the one most likely to answer, even though the chances were pretty thin.
Are you awake? Perhaps?
The thumping subdued.
Your vision blurred as you stared and stared, occasionally tapping the screen and praying for a miracle.
You thought you had fallen asleep, trapped in a nightmare, when a small bubble appeared.
On the hunt. Weâre just back from Mulbreigh field. I guess youâre home?â
You shook yourself up and got moving, not even caring to keep quiet. The thumping had resumed, and so had the mewling.
At Gingerâs in five.
Gotcha.
You did exit the apartment in a few minutes, grabbing just the bare necessities, and closing the door quietly.
By now you were familiar with nightly runaways.
And you were also familiar with the trio headed toward you.
âButtercup, is that you?â A calm, familiar voice asked.
âJoon?â
âYeah, itâs us. We have just one field left.â He said. âWeâre hoping to get the last one in time for the meteor shower.â
You raised your eyebrows. âThereâs a meteor shower tonight?â
The other man at Namjoonâs side was a vet from a city nearby, who occasionally helped him track new wild animals that inhabited the area. âYes. At around five am. It will be barely visible, but it will be there. Nice to see you, Buttercup.â
âHello Marcus, always a pleasure.â You said kindly, still shaking your head at the nickname. Shortly after, you noticed the third man greeting you. âHi Buttercup!â
âHello Guk!â You said. âHow many did you find?â
âWe found three owls and got them chipped and registered. And we found a new fox, just out of Mulbreigh. Weâre going to track him or her soon, hopefully. No wolves, fortunately.â
You smiled. âThatâs good news!â You said enthusiastically, thinking about how the farmer would have menaced those. The four of you walked toward the last location, taking a long path stretching north.Â
âWeâre hoping to find deers, honestly. Remember when we found that doe, last year? Apparently she found a way to remove her tracker and weâre hoping we can keep her monitored, just in case she has more fawns this year.â Marcus explained, at which you nodded in interest.Â
Staying focused allowed you to remove some thoughts from your mind, but at the same time you kept yourself out of their way, letting the experts work, following them from a distance as they combed the field and placed pheromones signals around the area, hoping to attract the doe to the trees near the field, where it was easier to find her traces and where it was potentially easier to catch her.
âThereâs no point going on here,â commented Marcus. âWe can only wait. It might take weeks.â
Namjoon huffed and nodded. âOh, there!â He said, pointing up. A white sign resembling a scratch slashed the horizon in the west, Jeongguk whipping his head in the direction, his pretty eyes widening in wonder as he saw one more shooting star zoom through the sky lighting up at dawn in such delicate shades, from rose to periwinkle to deep royal blue.
For a moment you stared at the sky, feeling its immensity, peace and beauty heal you slowly and steadily. How could such tiny human matters affect its infinity? You let your eyes drown in the greatness of everything, with the snowcaps rimmed in gold in the distance, and the meteors becoming invisible as the sky finally became too bright.
âGuk, Buttercup, why donât you head home while me and Marcus drive back at the cabin and finish up the paperwork?â Namjoon suggested, by now extremely used to his routine.
Jeongguk looked intermittently at you and Namjoon, adorably confused before he nodded.
âOkay.â He agreed.
You smiled timidly before thanking him, the two of you starting your walk back to town. It was a thirty minute trek, at worst, but you were both fast walkers and in twenty-five you reached his small house. Bibby, his large, scary dog â who of course is a sweetheart, just like his owner â welcomed both of you, the oversized puppy throwing himself at you and barking just once before Jeongguk shushed him.
âHow come you joined us?â Jeongguk asked, uncapping his orange juice bottle and pouring a glass, offering you some while you shook your head and declined politely.
You crossed your arms, your stance becoming defensive. You fidgeted and tried to speak, starting a couple times before stopping and starting again, trying to build an actual sentence.
Jeongguk looked at you and waited patiently. He was familiar with the blabbering, stuttering and reformulating.
âOkay. Donât say this to Yoongi, but⌠Yeah, he took Grace home last nightâ That is, he brought her to the apartment and they⌠Slept together?â You said, your voice so squeaky by the time you said the final word.
âAnd by âsleepingâ you mean everything but, right?â Jeongguk asked tactfully.
You nodded and looked at the floor, busying yourself petting Bibby.
âIâm so sorry, Buttercup.â He said, coming close to you and caressing your back soothingly.
You didnât have the energies to cry. You probably would, in a while, after waking up.
âYou need some sleep, donât you, Buttercup?â Jeongguk asked, patting your head.
Again you replied wordlessly, moving your head in approval.
âBibby is a great nap buddy, and I can get the futon ready and let you sleep there.â He reassured you, already fluffing up the pillows and grabbing an extra blanket.
âIâd like to sleep on the sofa, please?â You said, sitting down and removing your shoes, Bibby immediately getting interested in your wiggling toes.
âOh, youâd like that?â He asked in surprise, âtry it first, I can still get the futon ready if you donât like this old guy.â He joked about the piece of furniture.
You laid on your side, wiggling a little as you found the right position. âCan do.â You said with a barely-there smile. âThank you, Guk.â
âItâs okay.â He said, throwing the blanket on top of you. âThis one is just for guests. I washed it last weekend, donât worry.â He reassured you.
Knowing Jeongguk, you didnât even mind. He is a neat freak and a tattoo artist: cleanliness means everything to him. âCan I seriously keep Bibby?â You asked, soft eyed.
He beamed and nodded. âHe only sleeps on the sofa.â He said proudly and, as if following his ownerâs praise, Bibby climbed on the cushions, curling up in the space before you and laying his head on your arm, using it as a pillow.
You giggled and scratched the spot behind his ear.
âAsk me if you need anything.â Jeongguk murmured. âIâll leave my door open, just in case you need help or something.â He commented sweetly, closing the blinds to the several windows before walking to the kitchen and coming back to you, placing a bottle of water close to you.
He noticed Bibby was already asleep and he caressed the dogâs head before whispering âsleep tightâ.
You heard him leave the room. You closed your eyes, feeling Bibbyâs lungs inflate and deflate regularly, his heartbeat strong, his short fur velvety and relaxing under your fingertips.
You fell asleep like a baby.
Waking up meant a lot of things happening altogether.
Realising Bibby was in your arms.
Realising you were on Jeonggukâs sofa.
Realising you were heartbroken and that the idea of going back home nauseated you so deeply you couldnât even remotely consider it.
Jeongguk greeted you from the kitchen. âYouâre up, Buttercup!â He cheered, while Bibby turned around and placed his big head under your chin, shading his eyes. He always marvelled you with his curious manners. âItâs midday, would you like brunch?â
You sniffed the air. Bacon and eggs.
âYes, please.â
Bibby seemed to follow your lead, sniffing the air and running to his owner, acting way faster than you.
âOkay, what do we wanna do?â Jeongguk  asked once you were both seated at the kitchen table.
You ate some food, chewing quietly as you thought. You took your time.
âHonestly, I don't feel like going home, I guess.â You said, staring at your dish. You felt a bit lost.
âWe can hang out. Watch TV, meet the guys, do anything you want.â Jeongguk said.
âI was thinking of⌠No, it's okay, I should go home.â
âBut you don't want to.â Jeongguk opposed.
âNo, but I don't want to go back later tonight and find myself dreading sleeping in my room.â You said. You couldn't explain the emptiness in your stomach as you thought of the room.
âYou know you can stay here as long as you want, right? I have a spare room. We can put the futon there.â He said touching your hand.
That small sentence felt like the water threatening to drown you was slowly lowering.
âI don't want to abuse your kindness.â You admitted shyly, softly.
âI am your friend. It is my duty to help youâ He reassured you.
You mulled over your various possibilities. âOkay. But I'd like to go home and grab some stuff. Maybe they're not around.â You considered, looking at Jeongguk doubtfully.
âIt's okay. We can go together.â
You exhaled in relief.
Standing in front of the apartment door, you took a deep breath, Jeongguk rubbing his hand between your shoulder blades, over your jacket.
You could already hear them laughing and chatting.
You slipped the keys into the lock and opened the door.
âI'll wait here, yes?â Jeongguk reassured you.
You nodded and went in, walking to your room hesitantly, only to be completely overwhelmed by the sight in the kitchen.
Jin was standing behind Grace, helping her prepare his special avocado sandwich, an elaborate mug topped with whipped cream and crushed almonds waiting beside her while the breakfast table was filled with any kind of breakfast and brunch food one could only dream of.
However, what truly unsettled you was Grace, wearing an oversized shirt â Jin's â bare-legged, with Granny's thick handmade socks covering her feet and calves.
Seokjin said something in her ear and she giggled cutely, throwing her head back and leaning into his shoulder.
They ignored you completely, caught in their happy bubble, while you hid slightly.
You refused to hold on, rushing back to the front door.
Jeongguk spoke softly. âWhere's your stuff?â
You shook your head.
âI'm coming with you.â He said, placing his hand on the small of your back and leading you inside, closing the door noisily.
âHello, we're here.â He called loudly, bringing the two of you to the kitchen.
Seokjin's eyes zeroed in to the place the man's voice had come from, spotting you instead.
So this is it, he thought.
He. Grace.
You. Jeongguk.
Jeongguk?
His jaw contracted.
âButtercup came by to grab some things. It won't take long, will it, sweets?â
You widened your eyes at him and shook your head. âYes, sure.â
You almost ran to your bedroom, picking up the most basic stuff to spend a night out and to head off to lessons the following morning.
In the bathroom, you collected your toothbrush and beauty products before returning to the kitchen, your bag ready.
âGood to go, sweets?â He questioned, looking at you with his expressive, gleeful eyes.
You nodded and gave him the tiniest of smiles. âLet's go.â
Jeongguk turned towards Jin and Grace. âHave a nice afternoon, goodbye!â He greeted, letting you wave at the two before dragging you out, not before offering Seokjin a smug grin and winking.
Wearing that mask took a toll on him. He hated what Seokjin had done to you through the years, acting like a protective older brother without being one. He hated that the man kept you emotionally busy and never let you out of his influence. Most of your past relationships had dramatically been brought to an end by Seokjin's asphyxiating presence, by the incapability of your partners to rival with your best friend.
He had ruined you for everyone else, and Jeongguk couldn't find any words to define how cruel that was.
âAre you doing okay, Buttercup?â He asked.
You smiled a bit coldly.
âI'm sorry you had to see that.â He opened the door and let you in, Bibby welcoming the both of you.
âIt's okay. They've been dating for more than a month now. He's been by himself for a long timeââ
âBut he had you!â Jeongguk objected as he took off his jacket.
Your mouth stretched sadly. âNot like that.â
Jeongguk scrunched his nose in disappointment. âOkay. You know Iâve had the biggest crush over you. And we know that by now itâs just water under the bridge. And maybe I never told you but it was so easy to get over you â no offence â since to me, actually to all of us, you and Jin have always belonged to each other. Itâs canon. Anyone else would be wrong for the two of you. Obviously.â
You completely ignored Jeonggukâs mention of those old feelings. You already knew; it was all water under the bridge â just like he said â and the two had discussed it years ago. Instead, you focused on the belonging part. âHe has Grace now. Theyâve been dating for what? Six weeks?â
âHeâs been in love with you for four years!â Jeongguk said, slightly upset.
âWell, apparently he didnât do a great job of showing that! And it doesnât matter now. He has Grace.â You repeated.
âThe two of you are so stupidly dumb, I need to call Yoongi.â Jeongguk said, absolutely frustrated.
Silence lingered heavy in the room, like a thick fog. âDonât call Yoongi, please.â You said, sitting on the sofa and curling up in a ball. âHeâll scold me and then snap at Jin and then Spice will kill all of us for stressing him and interrupting their kinky Sunday afternoon.â
Jeongguk startled and put down the phone. âKinky Sunday afternoon? Is that a thing?â
âWith Spice, anything is a thing, especially if it means alone time with Yoongi.â You explained, scratching your nose and hugging Bibby as he got on the sofa.
âOkay. Letâs think about happier, less traumatising things. Do you wanna watch some TV? I have some Disney DVDs from when Namjoon comes over. No Bambi and Dumbo because those make him cry.â Jeongguk said, exposing his friend shamelessly. âAnd I donât want to pay for Disney plus, Yoongi would disown me and I would never tattoo him anymore and I donât want that.â
You giggled, completely endeared. âDo you think you have Tangled?â
âOh, yes!â Jeongguk checked the case and placed the CD in his PlayStation. âNamjoon loves Pascal. The chameleon.â Jeongguk gushed, sitting on the sofa, switching on a small lamp. âOh, would you like some popcorn?â He asked, ever friendly and welcoming.
You smirked before nodding.
Pausing the film, he dashed to the kitchen, getting a bag into the microwave and coming back five minutes later with a large bowl, the whole room smelling of salted butter.
You hummed in approval and settled down, Bibby miraculously uninterested in the snack. He restarted the film and your mind got completely absorbed by that.
Seokjin was confused.
He had accompanied Grace home, and now he sat in an empty room â an empty house â, looking at the opposite end of the table, where you werenât sitting.
Did you sleep with Jeongguk for revenge?
Did you maybe talk to him and he made his move and you said âwhy notâ, just like you had with that dude almost a month ago?
Maybe you liked him. Maybe you had always liked him and the two of you had confessed â he had a different gleam in his eyes and he had called you âsweetieâ or some other dumb nickname like that.
He should have confessed. He should have stopped hiding his head in his ass and should have grown a pair and told you, Buttercup, Iâm so far gone that Iâd be ready to serve you for the rest of my life, hell, Iâd even donate you my sperm if your husband was infertile and you wanted kids. Iâd even give up a kidney, fuck, Iâd give up my heart too for you.
He was a dumb, stupid fucker.
He wrote you a text.
Iâm sorry about fucking Grace, please come home.
Erased
Please come home. We need to talk. Iâm in love with you.
Erased
Donât fuck Jeongguk, you can fuck me instead, please.
Erased
He realised he always wrote âpleaseâ, and the more he went on, the more he needed to add.
He tried to stop overthinking everything and focused on the actual reality of it all.
He stared at your empty seat again.
Are you coming home for dinner?
Sent
The silence felt eternal.
That must be how space rovers feel, he thought, thinking about that tiny robot that wandered over the surface of Mars all alone.
He felt like the whole apartment couldnât possibly be home anymore.
He shook his head, telling himself he was being melodramatic. After five minutes, he decided to call you. You always answered texts about food! You knew how much it meant to him eating together!
With renewed tenacity, he found your contact at the very top of the list, three Aâs added before your name to make sure it always stayed on top of the list.
And he called you.
The beeping sound of the call ringing went on for ages. He swore he could feel his hair grow and his skin wither.
He waited maybe for a bit less than a minute, his mind already knowing that you were upset with him, that you were making him wait and grovel. You were trying to get on his nerves. Most definitely.
The ringing stopped.
âWhat is it?â
It was Jeongguk.
âIs she with you?â Seokjin asked, cold as ice.
âYes. Of course.â
âWhen is she coming home?â Jin asked dryly. He felt ready for a fight.
âWhen she wants to.â Jeongguk replied equally dryly.
âGive her the phone.â
Jeongguk breathed heavily. He didnât want to pass the phone to you. Seokjin had no right claiming you like that, using that voice, acting so mean when he was the one at fault. âSheâs sleeping.â It was true. You were really sleeping; you had completely crashed at the end of the cartoon, with Bibby keeping you warm and covering you in affection, never leaving your side. After all, some dogs have a sense of smell so fine that they can sniff at their ownerâs skin and perceive the hormones making their human happy or sad.
Seokjin waited, trying to calm himself down. It didnât work. âI bet youâre gloating. You finally have her, donât you? You must be feeling so smug.â
Jeongguk stretched his neck, keeping his composure. âI donât have her, okay? She came to me and I gave her space. I gave her somewhere safeââ
âOur home is safe.â Jin growled. âHere is safe.â
âWith you breaking her heart by banging that girl you donât love?â
âShe also banged a man she didnât give a shit about.â
Jeongguk raised his eyebrows. âDid you bang Grace for revenge, then?â
âNo. God, Iâve been alone for years, canât I have one good thing?â Seokjin almost screamed, his frustration spilling over.
âMaybe she banged him to get over you. Maybe she did that because sheâs tired of being alone, too.â Jeongguk explained, his tone glacial. His anger was scary â it didnât explode or break. It froze everything it touched. âYou hurt her. The moment you chose Grace, and with every date you went on. When you went to her on Valentineâs, when you banged her the other night. And thereâs a difference. The dude she banged? That was just sex. But you and Grace? There are feelings there. Thatâs the part she canât stand. This morning, when she saw the two of you in the kitchen? You broke her heart, Jin. She was brokenââ
âBut you fixed that, didnât you, sweetie?â He teased, sarcastic and poisonous.
âStop talking about my feelings for her.â Jeongguk chastised him. âUnlike you, I told her. I told her I had had a crush for her. I told her three years ago and I also told her that my feelings died down once I realised how she looked at you and how you looked at her. And weâre friends, weâre cool. I would never be able to look at her like anything more than a sister.â
Seokjin shut his mouth. He felt horrible. Maybe because he was horrible. He needed your sparkly laugh and your soothing touch. To talk things out about last night. Make everything right again. âPlease, convince her to come home.â
Jeongguk tutted. âI wonât. Sheâll come if she wants to. At her own time.â
âJeongguk...â Seokjin begged.
âYou both need to move on from this toxic bond. And thereâs no way other than separating. Physically first, and emotionally second.â Jeongguk reasoned, repeating something he and Yoongi had discussed a thousand times.
âShe is my friend.â
âYouâre not hers, though. You are the person she loves, and the person hurting her. She deserves a real chance, away from you.â Jeongguk rubbed the crown of his head. âI have to go. Goodnight.â
He hung up.

Hero Info Pages Part 2
Something Iâve always found interesting are the hero info pages for Overwatch characters. Thereâs a lot of details in these clips that either set up a trend that follows the heroâs character, a trend about the overarching struggles in Overwatch, or seemingly have no foundation in the lore but most certainly can be entertaining to think about how it could fit in the lore.Â
Part 1 can be found here.
Soldier is very straight forward, and we can see that in his Ultimate.
Tac Visor shows Soldier attacking Reaper first, then Widowmaker, then Hanzo. What I take from this is that Soldier prioritizes Talon above other criminals, and prioritizes Reaper above other members of Talon. I actually really like the composition of Reaper in front, Widow just outside of the circle, and Hanzo way off to the side, because this composition is half of why the clip is important.
For both the primary fire and the Helix Rockets, Reaper is the target. Soldierâs entire story and motivation is hunting Reaper down.
The clip for Soldierâs Biotic Field also confirms that he still has a sense of helping others and allies as he heals Tracer, Winston, and McCree. The location for all the clips is Dorado, which refers back to his cinematic, Hero, where he helped the little girl. Both of these things reinforces that Soldier is still a hero at heart even if heâs a âman on a missionâ and that mission is Reyes.
Mercyâs hero info page is incomplete. Thatâs something to note. The clips are old clips and donât change with updates to the game. Some abilities are not visually shown how they work. You just get a description and thatâs it. For Mercy, there are no clips for her Ultimate Valkyrie, or her Resurrect ability.
With that in mind, there are still clips for her staff, blaster, and Guardian Angel which showcase other heroes.
Mercy uses Guardian Angel to fly up to Tracer, and she heals Tracer with her Caduceus Staff. When she uses left click, Tracer is attacking Reinhardt.
Now, I donât particularly think that Angela has anything against Rein. I think this can be explained away as training or testing out new equipment because they are on Gibraltar.
However, I think that showing Roadhog rather than Reinhardt would have fit better for these clips considering that Mercy uses her Caduceus Blaster to shoot down Junkrat, a criminal.
Echo is the newest character in the game, and her hero info shows some interesting things.
Firstly, her Tri-Shot primary fire shows her attacking Tracer and Reaper. I canât explain this as training since itâs in the same clip. Echo is not training with Reaper anytime soon.
So why is Echo attacking Tracer in this clip? Maybe itâs to show that Echo can lean one way or another depending on how she grows as a character. She is a constantly learning AI program. It can also be yet another metaphor for AI programs going rogue. Mina Liao, the scientist who made Echo, infused some of herself into Echoâs creation. Dr. Liao was also the one who created the omnics in the first place, and the omnics had gone rogue after years of mistreatment which started the Omnic Crisis.
Echo attacking both Tracer and Reaper could hint at more omnic uprising, or just another memory of the first Omnic Crisis and subsequent Omnic Uprising as seen in Kingâs Row.
Her Ultimate Duplicate is fascinating. From left to right, Echo is against Sigma, Doomfist, Tracer, Moira, and Roadhog.
Echo Duplicates Tracer, then shoots Roadhog for ult charge, and sticks Tracer to kill the other four. Iâm not about to say that Echo dislikes Tracer. Thatâs just not whatâs up here. Tracer is being used here because the community is very comfortable with Tracer, and Echo was new. They wanted to display this ult with someone they knew the community would understand.
That being said⌠What could this mean?
I think that we could read this clip as Echo accidentally killing or hurting a teammate. That would be awful and sad, but better than the second idea that Echo would sacrifice a teammate just to catch the criminals.
Her Sticky Bombs kill Sombra and Hanzo, and her Focusing Beam finishes Roadhog. This all takes place on Gibraltar, which I think helps accentuate that sheâs new and learning. Route 66, where we first met her in the Reunion Cinematic, would have been a nice map to showcase her abilities, too, but they choose Gibraltar, probably to reinforce the fact that she is apart of the new Overwatch team thanks to the Recall.
Hey, Tracer, why are you shooting Zenyatta?
Thereâs two reasons I can place for Zenyatta being Tracerâs opponent when showcasing Tracerâs abilities. The first is the overarching theme of omnics versus humans, and that theme really permeates when shown repeatedly on Kingâs Row where we know Mondatta was assassinated and an Omnic Uprising occurred.
Her Ultimate only calls back to the Mondatta assassination as Tracer attaches a Pulse Bomb to Zenyatta, and it kills Widowmaker and Hanzo as well.
Widowmaker and Hanzo, you say? Widowmaker, the one who killed Mondatta, and Hanzo, another known sniper and assassin?
It seems to me that these clips are not meant to show Tracerâs allegiances, but more to continue the themes we see throughout Overwatch. These clips only hammer home the stories we already knew. A sniper killed Mondatta, a prominent speaker and activist, and Kingâs Row is home to omnic and human tensions.
Lucio has a whole info page about helping Overwatch, who will become his new friends. To start, Lucio uses Sound Barrier to gives shields to Tracer and Soldier.
Thereâs not much to say about that on its own, so letâs continue on.
Lucio uses both Crossfade and Amp It Up to heal and speed up Tracer, but he uses his Sonic Amplifier and Soundwave against Winston.
I think this is Lucio showing the Overwatch team his gear and how he can be helpful on missions with them. That would explain the full Overwatch hero cast in his clips. Lucio himself is a hero of his hometown, and we know with the upcoming Overwatch 2 that Lucio and the recalled team are buddies and working together. It makes sense that Lucio would take some time to show his new friends how his gear works.
Reinhardt is, thankfully, relatively quick to talk about.
His primary target in his clips? Itâs Hanzo. Hanzo is a mercenary, an assassin, a criminal, but heâs not apart of Talon. The reason I say this is because Reinhardt is specifically attacking a criminal with no interest in Talon because Reinhardt was still working after leaving Overwatch. His work switched from fighting rogue AI and Talon to fighting regular criminals like Hanzo.
Thatâs doesnât mean that heâs not going to attack Talon.
Reinhardt uses his Earth Shatter to stun Reaper, Hanzo, and Widowmaker, so he obviously will still attack Talon even if heâs no longer an Overwatch member.
Hardest thing to explain in these clips is the setting of Kingâs Row. Really, I think the only reason Reinhardt wasnât placed on, say, Eichenwalde, was because Eichenwalde came out after the gameâs release. So there just wasnât a better map for Reinhardt at the time. Still, Kingâs Row isnât a bad place considering that there was an omnic uprising there and Reinhardt was one of the heroes who went on that mission.
Ana... I love you, Ana, but whatâs happening here? Anaâs clips are buck wild. I donât know where to begin. Iâll add a Read More, since this is so long already.
I guess we start with Biotic Rifle. Firstly, she heals Reinhardt, and then she kills Soldier. When zoomed in, she heals Tracer, and only shoots Pharah twice, not enough to kill.
What a lot to unpack.
I think this shows that sheâs good friends with Reinhardt, just as they have been for years. She is the only one of Reinhardtâs friends to apologize to him about faking her death after all. Attacking Soldier and killing him could be a sign that Ana and Soldier, though friends, do not share the same thoughts about something. My guess is that Ana thinks Soldierâs mission is too much for him, that she thinks he needs to stop before he gets himself killed. That does align with more recent releases where Ana is helping him but also checking him when Solder pushes too hard. Healing Tracer seems obvious since Ana is still a healer and Tracer is a well respected hero, but attacking Pharah is interesting. I think Ana attacking her daughter is actually a figurative way of saying that the two donât get along. Ana doesnât kill Pharah, just injures her, and I think this is there to show their strained relationship even though Ana still cherishes her daughter.
Much of everything after this is speculation. Like I said, Anaâs clips are wild.
Ana sleeps Zarya. Perhaps this is to show that Ana, an old soldier, is tired herself. I think targeting a younger soldier like Zarya implies that Ana thinks the fighting and wars are exhausting. Maybe this is Ana not so subtly telling the younger soldier that they need to take care of themselves, too, much like she gets on Soldier about him talking care of himself.
The Biotic Grenade is wild. She smashes the grenade at Lucio, Winston, and Roadhog to show the healing properties, but then uses it offensively against D.Va to show that Mercy canât heal the mech. This entire clip has thrown me for a loop. I canât particularly explain it.
Perhaps she heals Roadhog because Roadie was once a soldier in ALF, and she can not blame him or others like him who attacked omnics to defend themselves back in the day. Perhaps they might have met back then, which I think would have been interesting to explore. But then why hinder D.Vaâs healing? Maybe she thinks D.Va, a 19 year old, shouldnât be fighting on the front lines. Ana views her as a child, just like Soldier and Reaper do, and thinks that Hana shouldnât have to fight wars for adults.
I think Mercy being the one healing D.Va is a reference to Mercy disliking how Ana uses Mercyâs research in a weapon like the Biotic Rifle. This puts them at odds with one another. On the other side, Lucio is likely there to show the amplified healing from the grenade, but maybe this also shows that Ana respects Lucio as a hero. Finally, Winston was an old friend.
Lastly, her Ultimate, Nano Boost. She Boosts Reinhardt, and Reinhardt kills McCree, Zenyatta, Tracer, and Soldier.
Ana deserves her own post at this point. Why are they attacking these four people? Ana just healed Tracer with her rifle not too long ago. For this bizarre clip, I have no reasoning, so lets see what this COULD mean.
I could explain this as Overwatch tearing itself apart. In this case, four of the five people in this fight are Overwatch members, and that only leaves Zenyatta. Maybe killing Zenyatta here is the representation of harmony and diplomacy being broken.
Perhaps this is more about Ana and Rein than it is about the opponents. Maybe Anaâs faked death made Rein incredibly upset. Maybe this clip represents Rein never letting it go. Maybe Rein, for a while, blamed Overwatch (represented by Soldier and Tracer) and Blackwatch (represented by McCree) for her death. Again, Zenâs death would represent a lack of harmony.
Overall, these are my thoughts on this set of characters. There are still over half of the cast left, and I think the remaining Talon members are next.

hey elle! i saw your answers for the questions i sentâi love coffee and cookie dough ice cream too! iâve found that i like a lot of coffee-flavored stuff like ice cream, cake, and candy lol. i also really love cookies and cream! iâd say thatâd be my favorite with coffee and cookie dough being VERY CLOSE seconds
BABY DONâT STOP IS ICONIC WHEW but may i propose....haikyuu boys dancing to it.......
anyways today iâve got some headcanons for a past written on the margins question! first it was a karaoke party with the seijoh 4, and now itâs a road trip! aka you and iwaizumi are the only ones with any braincells in this godforsaken car (they make you handle the gps stuff since youâre the best with it). i can imagine each of them rotating and driving for a set number of hours or at least until they reach a rest stop, especially on long trips. whoeverâs sitting shotgun (they rotate between this seat too) has control over the radio and aux cord and oikawa jokes that itâs the best part of going on road trips (but is he really joking though...)
makki and mattsun pretend to groan when you sit shotgun, but in actuality they donât mind and will probably sing along to some of the songs you play (if thereâs a rap part in the song currently playing everyone makes mattsun rap along i feel like his voice just fits it) while oikawa would be like UGH FINALLY SOMEONE WITH SOME MUSIC TASTE just to get a rise out of the other boys (but he really does think those kpop songs you blast lowkey slap heâs been listening to some of them while he works out or goes on his morning runs). iwa generally doesnât have much of a preference but i can see him being partial to more upbeat songs to keep him or whoeverâs driving awake, but even during slow songs the rest of you guys sing loud enough and chaotic enough to prevent anyone from getting any shut-eye (oikawa, makki, and mattsun dramatically act out a whole SAGA)
when you guys reach any rest stop makki is the first one out of the car and he makes a beeline towards the bathroom because he drank a lot of water during you guysâ impromptu karaoke session (gotta keep those vocal chords taken care of!). oikawa and mattsun are usually the ones in charge of getting snacks, they always end up getting a lot but they make sure to get everyoneâs favorites! the amount of snacks they buy seems overkill but theyâre athletic boys with voracious appetites and getting this many snacks ensures that the car is never short on food. if this is during or post-timeskip iwa is probably a little more strict on the snacks everyone eats (especially with regards to oikawa, being a professional athlete and all) but eventually decides to let up a bitâitâs not everyday he gets to go on a trip with his close friends, plus all those calories are gonna get burned right away once you guys reach your destination and go from place to place.
god help anyone who actually falls asleep in the car because oikawa and makki are taking photos of whoeverâs sleeping with their phones AND with the polarioid camera you brought. despite this, though, everyone makes a conscious effort to be quieter when someoneâs napping, and the volume of the radio is turned a bit lower. one of your favorite pictures on your phone is a selfie you took of everyone while you were sitting in the passenger seat: mattsun was driving at the time and though he wasnât looking at the camera, a smile is on his face as he makes a peace sign with one hand; oikawa, iwa, and makki are sleeping in the back seats with oikawa and makki leaning on iwaâs shoulders (he lost a few rounds of rock paper scissors and had to sit in the middle). this also extends to when youâre asleep in the car as wellâoikawa jokingly made his phone background a selfie of you leaning on his shoulder while napping (featuring a blurry iwaizumi at the side) but he actually finds it quite cute and doesnât want to change it to his usually background quite yet.
itâs evening when you guys finally reach your hotel and everyoneâs a bit tired from being cooped up in the car all day but surprisingly enough no oneâs really sleepy because everyone at one point had the opportunity to nap on the way there. if youâre dating one of the boys the others DEFINITELY make you two take one room while the other three take the room adjacent to it. after everyoneâs gotten ready for bed youâre all gathered in one of the hotel rolls just vibing on your phones and you and oikawa decide itâs the perfect time to bring out The Sheet Masksâ˘ď¸ that you kept in the cooler in the car during the trip so theyâd remain cold. many more goofy photos of everyone with the masks on their faces are taken.
by this point itâs late at night and eventually you guys fall into having some nice, genuine heart-to-heart conversations. if this is during or post-timeskip everyoneâs sharing what theyâve been up to ever since graduation or ever since you guys last saw/talked to each other. itâs just such a nice and comforting environment to be in because everyoneâs a little tired from the dayâs events and so itâs not as loud and boisterous, but at the same time this tiredness and it being nighttime means everyoneâs filters are a little looser than usual and you could ask for advice on just about anything and everyone else would chime in with both lighthearted and actual suggestions. the boys are just SOFTER during this time like you could bring up how youâve been getting back into something you did during high school (like playing piano or guitar or something) and theyâd want you to show them videos or pictures of what youâve been up to! maybe one boy brings up something thatâs been worrying them for a while and you and the others are giving him words of encouragement while also cracking jokes. itâs just really chill and nice and everyone likes these late night talks because they bring you all a little closer.
everyone ends up sleeping in the same hotel room. you wake up sandwiched between oikawa and mattsun (oikawaâs got an arm thrown around you and mattsunâs long leggies are literally on top of yours and you wonder how you managed to sleep soundly last night) and iwa and makki are on the pull out sofa bed and youâre like Hey Guys. What The Heck (makki takes this opportunity to snap a photo of the three of you wrapped up in the bedcovers) and when you guys go to get breakfast at the hotel buffet itâs strangely quiet because almost everyone is still sleepy lol.
after getting some food in your system and getting ready for the day youâre all back to your usual energetic selves! you snap a mirror selfie of everyone gathered around the sink in one of the hotel rooms because oikawa was finishing getting ready (he takes the longest i just know it) and the other boys were just hanging around him talking about whatâs planned for the day. the schedule you guys have isnât super specific but thereâs a few choice locations that you guys looked into in advance and try to visit no matter what! a day out with them is definitely filled with photos. youâve got a lot of them in which theyâre trying to recreate some funny pose in a picture oikawa saw online (like the one of nct in the ask i sent you earlier!!) and they either turn out really great or really horrible (funny) because you have a knack for taking photos where everything looks normal but someoneâs face would be really blurry. but they would also try and take some really nice photos tooâtheyâll all even help you if you want to take some solo shots! oikawa and makki know the best angles for aesthetically pleasing photos, mattsun has a knack for taking panorama photos that look perfect, and iwaizumiâs really good at taking those types of photos of you guys jumping in the air without them looking weird. youâve basically got four tall hypemen itâs great!!
overall i think itâd be so fun to go on a trip with them because itâs the perfect balance!! theyâre chaotic clowns but they also wonât hesitate to give you a piggyback ride if your feet really hurt or if your shoes are giving you blisters (oikawa will try and make iwa give him a piggyback ride too, though). you guys end up getting a lot closer and having a TON of photos and inside jokes at the end of the trip, and though youâre all reluctant to go back, you also all know that this is only the beginning of a lot more outings together! if you take little clips of various events throughout the trip and compile them all together into a little vlog theyâll all probably watch it together through zoom or discord screenshare or something loool
THIS IS SO LONG take a shot (of water) every time i say one of the guysâ names or if i say âeveryoneâ or some variation of it FJDJSNS seijoh 4 brainrot things am i right.....i hope you enjoyed reading this as much as i enjoyed writing and thinking of this! i think in the future i might think of stuff for if you go on a trip with the miya twins (and maybe suna too?).....hmmm hmmm hmmm!!! âđ¸
â from elle ! i love this so so much >_< like literally what do i have to do to go on a road trip with the seijoh four??? it would be so much fun and chaotic and i want that for me,, i love them and their friendship so much it's insane ;-; anyways, thoughts + additions under the cut <33 thank you for this !!
everyone who isn't driving makes it their mission to annoy the one who is; whether it's through repeatedly poking their cheek, asking how long of the drive they have left, etc. the person who can last the longest in driver's seat would probably be iwaizumi, all his years playing volleyball with them as prepared him for this moment â but also looked up breathing exercises to avoid getting angry.
the best person to have riding shotgun would most be mattsun, especially when it's really late or super early ; keeps the conversation going and doesn't fall asleep, even when everyone in the backseat is. he shotguns energy drinks every hour or so.
i love the idea of oikawa, makki, and mattsun acting out a whole saga in the backseat omg !! in my head it's a song like taylor swift's love story wherein makki is the love interest, oikawa is taylor, and mattsun is like the dad who doesn't want them together. they really go all out on the acting â oikawa might have let out a couple of tears â and even iwa cracks a lil smile from the driver's seat.
awe timeskip!iwa watching out for everyone's diets ;-; but i do agree that he's gonna let up a bit considering that everyone doesn't see each other all the time. but i feel like he gives everyone the look⢠every now and then despite this.
aw cmon don't hit me with oikawa making his background me leaning on his shoulder as i sleep that's so adorable i might cry :<< but other photos taken during naps include : iwa leaning on oikawaâs shoulder, makki sleeping with his eyes halfway-open ??? mattsunâs face covered in stickers that you impulse-bought at a random stopover.
sheet masks with the boys ??? yes pls !! though iwa would definitely be the type to almost wash his face after and oikawa screeched just before he was able to splash water on his face.
but late in the night heart to hearts ??? ugh, peak softness from the boys â everyone cries at some point because woah all of you really grew so much since high school and it made everyone feel all warm and tender.
but at some point, without thinking, and also bec itâs late and what does he have to lose, iwa just goes âyou know, i had a crush on you when we were in high schoolâ at yn and everyone just goes ?!?!?!?!?
yn : what the hell i had a crush on you ????
and oikawaâs just cackling in the background like, âi knew it !!!! both of you kept saying i was crazy for pushing it i feel so vindicated rnâÂ
meanwhile makki hands mattsun some money because they bet on it years ago and they were finally getting answers â makki thought you would confess first and mattsun thought it would be iwa ; several years too late but at least ;//
also i would just love to fall asleep in between oikawa and mattsun,,, please how do i get that
also on mattsunâs panoramas: everyone likes moving around a lot when he takes those photos and itâs the perfect mix of weird and cool because yeah there are like five makkiâs but one of them looks like he has a third arm and a triangular head
and the vlog and we all get to watch it together over discord ???? thatâs it, thatâs what i want ;-;
tldr; I would give anything to go on a road trip with the seijoh four ;((

Let me down pt.3
Pairing(s): Peter Parker x Reader (platonically), Reader x oc
Warnings: I mean, in my eyes this is pure fluff, but who knows if it will hurt you
Summary: Peter and May have dinner with Y/Nâs family, prompting a lot of questions to get an answer.
A/N: oKAY, I know that what happened wasnât exactly what you expected and and it has taken me so long to write this but it's finally here. I want to thank you all, I never meant for this blow up like it did or to even become a series, honestly when I wrote the first part I was just in a really bad mood and I felt like writing something sad and that came out, but then people started to ask for a second part and well the rest is history. So yeah, I actually want to write even more parts to this so let me know if you would like it. Also, I tagged everyone who asked me to write more to this, but let me know if you want to be removed from the taglist

part one part two
Peter couldn't help but feel like his head was spinning as he walked back home from the metro that night. Claire had sat him down in her bed for almost an hour showing off all of her Avengers stuff. She had a replica of Thor's Mjolnir (and she knew how to pronounce it, which was even more impressing), she had the Spider-Man's Uno she had mentioned (it did make him kind of emotional to see a drawing of him on the package) and she had Iron Man's full suit.
Yeah, he did his best not to cry with the last one.
Even if she hadnât ran up to you screaming âmommyâ, he wouldâve known that she was your daughter. Claire had your hair, your eyes, your nose, even when the rest of her tiny face was more like Markâs. The corners of her eyes wrinkled the same way yours did when you smiled and she was as energetic as you, she got lost in her own thoughts just like her you used to do.
He had been counting the seconds to be out of your house and be able to break down on the guardianship of his loneliness, but when he found himself walking down the street after dinner... he just didn't.
Peter had gone to school that day being sure that as soon as he saw you, something would be okay, and even if it hadn't gone according to the plan, he hadn't been wrong. Something was okay: you were okay. You had a career, a good job, a loving husband, a perfect daughter, a beautiful family.
You had a great life and, most importantly, you were willing to welcome him in it, so yeah, maybe things were going to be okay.
So when Claire asked him to dinner with them again at the end of the week, and you said you wanted to say hi to May, he just couldn't refuse. That's how he ended up standing in front of your house again, with May by his side this time, holding a cherry pie they had placed and decorated on a plate as if to pretend they hadn't bought it from the grocery store.
As soon as the door opened, Peter handed the dessert to May, because he was prepared for the moment Claire jumped to his arms to greet him. You smiled openly at May, trying to blink away the tears in your eyes at the sight of the woman who had given you a place to call home everytime you felt like your own house was not it.
Both Peter and Mark noticed how you tried to keep your composure when her arms wrapped you in a warm embrace.
"Sorry, I'm a mess," you muttered in apology, trying to wipe your eyes without messing up your mascara.
"You look beautiful," May corrected, making your eyes wet all over again. "It smells amazing," she said suddenly, changing the subject to give you a chance to calm down, "what are you cooking?"
"Oh, I'm not cooking," you clarified rushing them inside, Peter still carrying the little girl in his arms, "Mark is. I somehow manage to burn the water."
"You could always make PB and jelly sandwiches," Peter said with an amused smile, earning a fond laugh from your lips, as if you shared an inside joke.
Only when Mark received the pie from May's hands did Peter notice that he was wearing a purple apron over his white unbuttoned shirt, and he couldn't help the sting in his heart at how perfect he was. He kindly apologized at the fact that the meat still needed a few more minutes on the oven, because he had been held back a little longer than expected at the office.
"What's that smell?" You asked, frowning.
"Daddy, the aspargaroos!" Claire exclaimed instantly, clearly unaware of how to pronounce asparagus, as she wiggled to let Peter know she wanted to be back on the ground. The tiny human ran behind her father into the kitchen, ready to do the damage control.
You decided to grab a bottle of white wine (and another Capri Sun for Peter) while her husband and daughter tried to resolve the asparagus crisis. He tried to pay attention to the conversation the two women in front of him were maintaining, but it was like they were talking in some foreign, alien, grown up language he couldn't understand.
This time, you took a little longer to finish your glass of wine than the last bottle you had opened, which had been a week ago when Peter had showed up in your doorstep. You were trying your best to hide your excitement talking to May, but you couldn't help the profound feeling of pride that took over your chest when you saw her eyes glimmer with amazement as they explored around the living room, where the pictures and prices of all of your family's accomplishments were displayed.
Peter was the first to notice Mark come out of the kitchen with a sheepish smile, "alright, so, the asparagus isn't salvageable, er, how do you feel about KFC salad?"
That's how they found themselves sitting at the round dinner table eating steak with a mushroom sauce Claired had been the one to think about, roasted potatoes and KFC salad, because apparently the always ordered some extra salad on their takeaways and stuffed them in the fridge.
"So..." May started, eyeing the young couple nervously. "There is so much to talk about. How... you... well..."
"How did I end married and with a kid at twenty three?" You finished for her, saving a sigh to yourself although you felt your husband tense a little beside you. The more you two heard that question, the more annoying it got, even when you knew May didn't mean to offend you.
Of course you knew you were young, and that many people your age couldn't handle such commitments, you didn't need people telling you that constantly. You had heard the same discourse from teachers, employers, even neighbors you had never talked to, it quickly got old and you tried not to become aggressive everytime you heard it.
Mark and you had a happy, healthy marriage, with a wonderful daughter that had brought light into a world as dark as yours was since the blip. You had good jobs that allowed you to have a stable economy and also take care of your family. You were happy, what else mattered? If you wanted opinions or needed help, you would certainly ask for it.
You never once had.
Still, you responded kindly, "well, we met in college, Princeton," you mentioned, earning two proud looks from your guests. "We were in different programs, so we met specifically through a praying group."
"That had never really been my thing," Mark picked up, "praying and all that God related talk bored me, but most of family and friends had been blipped... I was lonely. So I thought maybe I should give it a try."
"I honestly thought he had gone for the food, because when the meeting was over he looked like he hadn't understood a single word."
"Because I hadn't."
"A friend and I decided to come and talk to him, but after she left we hung out a little longer," you tried to hide the cheesy smile that took over your lips, but you looked over at Mark, who hasn't trying to hid his, and couldn't. "I don't know how to explain it, something about that moment just felt" you shrugged shyly "right."
The memories of you staying on the library, hiding behind the stacks of books so that no one would notice you trying to stay inside after it closed and talking the whole night long never failed to raise goosebumps along your skin. He would offer to read for you when your eyes got tired of working with the dim light that entered through the window, even when he was a law major and didn't understand a single word on the neuroscience and robotic books you were always studying.
It was soon after getting to know him, you just knew Mark had been made for you. There was something in the way you could see in his eyes that crowds freaked him out and that he tried not to cry after talking to his mom in the phone, something in the way he understood your whimpers in the days where anything above a mutter was just too much, that you knew this awkwardly tall curious guy was meant to cross your path.
"Things moved pretty fast after that," you continued, hoping you hadn't zoomed out for too long, "like 'we got married eight months after' fast."
May did her best to hide her surprise, while Peter choked on the salad. Was listening to your loving tone as you told the story easy? No, not at all. He wanted to throw up. Peter was still hopelessly in love with you, even when you were now five years older, even when you had a husband and a child, even when it was ridiculous and impossible, because for him it hadn't been years, it just had been months.
"Claire came soon after that," Mark concluded after pouring some more juice on Peter's glass and asking him if he was okay. "And all of this happened throughout college?"
"We had a really good support system," he nodded, smiling down at Claire, who had made a mess over her chicken sandwich. "A really good amount of friends willing to babysit whenever we had to work, understanding teachers who let us bring Claire to our lectures. My mom and Y/N's parents were also a great help."
"We were both on scholarships that gave us some allowances to support ourselves each month, too," you added. "It wasn't much, but it helped."
"And what are you working on now?" May switched to a conversation that would probably be easier on her nephew.
"Well, Mark is an associate on a buffet in Manhattan," you said grabbing your husband's hand. "What's your approach?" Peter asked, somewhat genuinely curious.
"Environmental law," he replied proudly.
"And I-"
"Mommy builds robot limbs!" Claire exclaimed excitedly, prompting a laugh on the others.
"Before I graduated, I got a job as lab assistant on a research for neuro prosthetics," you explained, "and after graduating, they hired me as researcher. Basically what we're trying to do is to create a non-invasive implant we can connect to the brain and spinal cord that controls robotic prosthetics for people who have lost limbs or return movement to paralyzed body sections."
Peter's skin prickled at the description of the research, for it was one he had known before it all went crumbling down. A memory flashed through his eyes, Tony helping his friend walk after he had been injured in Germany, on his first mission.
"That's..."
"A Stark Industries' research, yes," you nodded solemnly.
"Y/N told me you had an internship with Tony Stark before... it all happened," Mark commented carefully. Peter's head practically snapped in his direction, then, more subtly, in yours. You shook head slightly, almost imperceptibly, but clearly enough to let Peter know you hadn't told his secret.
"You met Tony Stark?" Claire asked him with a bright light in her eyes, one that Peter had seen thousands of times on other kids that, very much like himself, dreamt every night of robots and technologies that could change the world.
"Yes."
"How was he?"
Peter thought for a few seconds about his answer. What was Tony Stark? He was charming, sure, but he wasn't exactly friendly. He was a genius, yet he had never let that cloud his judgement. He had trouble expressing himself, but he always made sure the people around knew how much they meant to him. Suddenly Peter understood why Shakespeare was always making up words, there were just some things, some people, the english language wasn't extensive enough to describe, so he said the best he could come up with.
"He was the most amazing guy I ever met."
You smiled down at your nearly empty plate, it was impossible to forget how much had mr. Stark meant for Peter. Even when you guys broke up and cut off all communication, you still prayed for him to always be under the wing of his mentor. You couldnât imagen what it was like for Peter to live in a world where Tony Stark was no longer there to help him walk through life.
Hopefully, you would be able to do that in his absence.

Spare Room?
Hey everybody. Last year, I had worked on the Sonic Zine @stayhomesonic which was a fanzine that would be sold to fans each with pieces of art and writing about the pandemic, with the proceeds going towards Doctorâs Without Borders in the end. $612 was raised and it was great to take part in such a nice cause.
Now that the zine has been finished, I am able to post my piece to social medias which I am doing so now. Rather than something soft or emotional, I decided to go a little more comical with these characters while also going into the importance of staying home and social distancing.
Spare Room?
With a global pandemic going on, everybody was asked to stay inside their homes. This was a good thing, it kept people safe. But if you were a guy that didnât really have a house and just kinda camped out wherever you stopped running, then you were in for a problem. Unfortunately for Sonic the Hedgehog, that was his predicament.
He now stood in the Mystic Ruins outside of Tailsâ lab where he hoped that he could crash until this whole thing blew over.
Tails arrived at the door decked out in a hazmat suit that even covered his namesakes.
âHey, bud!â Sonic smiled and waved at him.
âSonic, itâs good to see you!â The fox grinned.
Sonic was quick to go in for a hug, but Tails was quick to duck away. âSorry, Sonic. No touching. You know how it is right now.â
The hedgehog sheepishly rubbed the back of his head. âSorry, Sorry. Forgot.â
âItâs all good. So what brings you by these parts?â
âWell, everybodyâs been told to go inside for this whole virus thing, and I donât really have a house so Iâm like âWhy not bunk with the best little bro in the whole world?â yâknow?â
âSonic thatâs great and Iâd love to have you.â
âPerfect!â He beamed as he began to make his way towards the door.
But for the first time in a long time, Tails was faster than him as he quickly produced a remote control with a single red button on it and stepped back into the house.
Suddenly, metal bars appeared in front of him as warning sirens went off all around. Sonic was quick to cover his ears as he watched his friendâs shack basically become Fort Knox in a matter of seconds.
âSorry, Sonic. Iâd love to have you but I just canât. Iâm busy trying to find a cure so itâs not safe here.â
âTheyâre trusting an 8 year old to find a cure for a worldwide pandemic?â
âYes and they pay me handsomely. Good luck trying to find a place to stay, I gotta get back to work.â
Sonic waved him off before leaving.
If Tails wasnât gonna let him stay then who would? He wondered as he ran off.
However, quickly he found himself in Station Square and thatâs when he realized that he knew someone that would have to let him in.
It wasnât long before Sonic stood outside of an apartment and rang the doorbell, giving off his best winning smile.
When the door opened, Amy Rose stood before him, wearing her usual outfit but a facemask as well.
âSonic!â She cried. âItâs good to see you!â
âHey, Ames. Good to see you too.â
Sonic reached out for a hug, but Amy was quick to back away. âNo, no mister, you know the rules. Keep a safe distance.â
âAw, come on, itâs just one hug.â
âSure first itâs one hug and then itâs one kiss and then itâs one virus.â Amy shook her head. âWeâre not in good times right now.â
Sonic chuckled. âWho are you and what have you done with Amy Rose?â
Amy swiped her hand around and laughed with him. âOh, stop. But seriously, what brings you by?â
âWell, with this whole virus thing going around Iâve been looking for a place to stay, so I thought Amy will definitely let me-â
âNo.â
âStay and so Iâm just gonna go in and- wait, did you say no?â
Amy gave a placate smile and shook her head âSame thing, Sonic. Any other day, Iâd love to have you over, but right now itâs just not a good idea.â
Sonic sighed at this but nodded in understanding.
Amy quickly closed her door and Sonic was left to find someone else to bunk with.
First Tails and now Amy. This was proving to be a lot harder than he thought. He thought he was a shoe in to get inside Amyâs apartment but the girl was far more serious than he initially thought she would be. Part of him was proud of her for sticking to her guns and staying safe, but another part of him just wanted a bed to sleep in for once.
Who else did he know that actually had some sort of roof over their head could he go to?
And then it clicked. While definitely not ideal, he supposed he could give them a try.
Sonic raced off from Station Square and shortly arrived in Westopolis where he went to a specific high rise apartment complex to find Team Dark.
Team Dark, having more government funds than they knew what to do with lived incredibly comfy in what was more or less a penthouse and they were 100% fine with that. It was a bit too stuffy and fancy for Sonicâs tastes, but desperate times called for desperate measures.
Sonicâs eyes widened in shock when he went to the top floor of the building and found steel plating surrounding the entrance to their apartment.
Sonic looked confused at this as he walked over to ring the doorbell.
But as soon as he placed a finger on it, alarms began to blare causing the hedgehog to instinctively jump into a battle pose.
But no danger came.
Instead, a massive screen flared to life and there stood the face of E123 Omega. âWho dares violate the safety of Rouge?!â
âOmega?â Sonic looked confusedly.
âSonic the Hedgehog how dare you try to infiltrate our place of dwelling during the infection?! Please vacate the premises immediately or lethal force will be taken!â
Suddenly a comically large laser gun appeared from next to the panel and pointed dangerously at the hedgehog.
âWoah, woah, woah!â A sharp voice came from offscreen. âOmega, put those away right now!â
âBut Rouge, he-â
âWe do not vaporize our friends, Omega!â Rouge shouted.
If Sonic wasnât mistaken he thought he had heard the robot groan but the laser was in fact put away.
In a few short moments the camera was turned in a new direction and he could see Rouge the bat lying lazily on the couch wearing a bathrobe and slippers, a magazine discarded at her side.
âHey, Big Blue.â She waved. âSorry about Omega, heâs gotten a little extreme when it comes to the virus.â
âA little? Dude tried to blast me!â
âAnd I would do it again.â
Rouge rolled her eyes at this. âOmega put the place on lockdown as soon as news broke out and wonât allow me to leave the house. I donât really care though so Iâve just made myself comfortable.â
âOkay⌠what about Shads?â
âShadow?â She snickered. âAs soon as he heard, he didnât even bother with me or Omega, he just used his Chaos Control and left. Who knows where he is?â
âKnowing him, he probably thinks he canât be infected or something and is off trying to figure out how he can punch the virus.â
Rouge simply shrugged.
âAnyway, you gonna let me stay?â
Rouge shrugged. âIâd love to⌠But I am 100% sure Omega will vaporize youâŚâ
âI will!â
âAnd I just canât stop him.â
Sonic sighed. âAlright, thanks.â
Sonic ran off yet again, trying to find where exactly he could go but to no avail. He had friends all over the world and yet, none of them were taking him. He tried the Chaotix, he tried Professor Pickle, he even considered Omochao but then realized nothing was worth that hell.
But soon, he ran into someone that actually wanted him.
If only he could say the same about them.
âHello, Sonic!â
Sonic stopped his running nearly tripping over his own feet with how sudden the gravelly voice had come out at him.
He looked up to the source of the voice and saw a floating screen before him and on that screen was none other than Doctor Eggman himself, giving him a big cheeky smile. The doctor wasnât looking to good, he was covered in a blanket, his face redder than usual, his usually bushy moustache drooped down low.
âSonic!â He announced. âI hear you are looking for a place to stay!â
âPass.â Sonic tried to run away but the same floating screen was quick to have two robot arms extend from it and grab the hedgehog.
âNow hold on there, Sonic. I would like to extend an olive branch to you. With these trying times, we all need to stick together and I happen to know that you need a roof over your head. So, stay with me and weâll make great company!â
Sonic let himself go from where the arms were holding him. âYouâre sick, Eggman.â
Eggman violently coughed at that. âN-n-no, of course not. I am of perfect health.â
âI meant youâre messed up but yeah, that too.â
Eggman frowned at that. âWait, I promise that no harm will come to you.â
âIs that right?â
âBut of course.â
âIn that caseâŚâ
âChaos Control!â
Sonic and Eggman both looked up in shock to see none other than Shadow the Hedgehog drop down and dropkick Eggmanâs screen, causing it to break.
âI- okay, I wasnât expecting that, Shadow.â
Shadow rose from where he was crouched down on the ground and glared at the hedgehog.
âSo⌠since youâre here, I was wondering if I could bunk it in wherever you were hiding out an-â
âAbsolutely not!â Shadow roared. âAfter Rouge called me on my communicator, she informed me of your little crusade to find a roommate. So Iâm telling you here and now, stay away from space. If I hear you so much as step one foot off the planet, then I will not hesitate to-â
âWoha, wait, space? I didnât even know thatâŚâ And then it clicked. âYouâre hiding out on the Ark arenât you?â
Shadowâs eyes widened in shock and he quickly tried to cover himself. âI- I- I- cannot confirm or deny that⌠I- I have to go. Uh⌠Chaos Control!â
Sonic sighed at this, being left all alone with flaming pile of machinery.
After trying all his friends he was left in complete isolation. What was he to do now that he had nowhere to stay, nowhere to run to⌠He was all alone.
But it was those thoughts of loneliness, isolation that made him realize that he had one friend that he had completely forgotten to ask and zoomed off.
It wasnât long before he arrived at his destination. Lush greenery surrounded him, birds were singing, nature was alive and well, standing amongst it all was a great big altar where a massive green gem of power could be seen radiating a comforting energy that rolled over him in waves.
Leaning against the same gem was none other than the Emerald Guardian himself, Knuckles the Echidna and as soon as Sonic stepped foot on the Altar, he cracked open an eye and looked over at his visitor.
âSonic.â
âHey, buddy. Itâs good to see ya!â He sheepishly waved.
âWhat are you doing on my island?â
âWell⌠ya see, thereâs this whole virus thing going on andâŚâ
âVirus? What virus?â
Sonic stood there in stunned disbelief for a moment, staring at the echidna in complete befuddlement as Knuckles looked at him expectantly.
He just shrugged. âForget about it. Anyway, you mind if I crash on Angel Island for a while?â
Knuckles put a hand to his chin in thought for a moment. âEh, sure. Just stay away from the Master Emerald and me for that matter.â
âWorks for me.â Sonic shrugged as he left to jog a few laps around the island, finally having a place to stay during this pandemic.

Without Me I
Word Count: 4.4k
Pairing: Jung Hoseok x F!Reader
Genre: Angst, fluff, smut (future chapters) I CEO au(?) idk what this should be catagorized as lol
âTell me, how's it feel sittin' up there? Feelin' so high, but too far away to hold me.â
Without Me (Halsey)
âOne day Iâll give you the world I promise.â You only allow yourself to think of him when you're drinking, only when you're drinking. In those nights where your mind is hazed with alcohol, and the guilt of everything begins to eat you alive slowly. You remember the way he used to look at you with the twinkle of the night sky or the way his eyes would crinkle whenever he laughed. You remember the nights where you whispered nothing into his ear and the days when he was your whole world. Then slowly, as those memories start to fade, you begin to recall the screaming, the way he always seemed to come home drunk with blood on his fingers, and the way you begged for him to quit. By the time the memories finished making their rounds, you couldn't stop the bitter taste from crawling back into your mouth. The morning glow outside your small apartment window has started to peek through the night sky, and you realized that you've spent yet another night lost in the man that you lost so many years ago.
"Hoseok, stop that tickles," you giggled as your boyfriend wrapped his arms around your waist. You're in the kitchen of your new home that you had just moved into, an apron on, and smiles as wide as the morning sun. It's been hard coming up with the money to finally move from your small hometown in Busan all the way to Seoul. But through all of your shifts in the convenience store to the restaurant down the street from your childhood home, the two of you had made it.
"You look like the perfect housewife," He giggles into your ear, "I promise one day when I finally make enough money to buy you that diamond ring, I'll ask you to marry me, and we'll live happily ever after," You think that this must be what heaven feels like.
Being at the fresh age of 23, you couldn't have been more naive. Everything that the world had to offer seemed too innocent, and your future with Hoseok seemed so bright. You saw a big house with a picket fence, children running in the backyard, and a loving husband in your arms.
"Yes," you think to yourself, "This is what my future is going to look like." Running your soft hands through his hair Hoseok's eyes glitter as he slowly whispers, "let's never change," mirroring his lovestruck eyes, you slowly whisper back, "ok."
Love is a strange thing. Growing up in a family where the sound of screaming and breaking glass was as expected as the sun rising, could anyone blame you for jumping at the first sign of affection you were shown? It was no surprise that the boy in a leather jacket and tattoos on his arms who promised you all of his love had you wrapped around his coarse fingers in record speed. Meeting him at seventeen, you began to think that maybe life didn't hate you so much after all. It wasn't like you had a choice. After all, his advances towards you swarmed your everyday life like cockroaches and cancer cells that infested every single part of your being. You found yourself unable to stop your doom. He became your reason for everything. You breathed into him almost as if he was the oxygen that ran through your bloodstream. You couldn't live without him.
Your friends had warned you about the boy that had magic in his eyes and sweet words on his lips telling you that you couldn't change a person like him, but you were too young and reckless to care. Maybe it was the glint of the galaxy and freedom in his eyes, or perhaps it was the lingering sense of loneliness that you felt as if the two of you shared. But at that moment, you knew you would risk it all for him.
It was an uneventful Tuesday afternoon. You stood in your local supermarket staring at the little amounts of money you had left in your hands. Your father had stopped sending his child support months ago. With your mother constantly drunk out of her mind, you and your siblings were now only surviving on the part-time job you worked at the coffee shop down the street. You slowly started adding up all the necessities you needed. Milk, eggs, toilet paperâŚ.Your brooding was cut short as the loud hooting and screaming of teenage boys filled your ears. Before you knew it, the whole store had turned into utter chaos. The group of, from what you could tell, 7 boys with guns and knives had started running around the store, looting whatever was in sight. The store manager had come out staring at the whole scenario playing out in front of him in shock. He started yelling as well, threatening to call the police as the boys simply laughed in response.
Soon, police sirens began to ring from a distance. You stood frozen solid to your spot by the tomatoes, and your shock slowly melted into fear. Were you going to die today? You didn't have much time to think when suddenly someone grabbed your hand and screamed "RUN" and started dragging you right along with him. You weren't sure if it was a pure reflex or the adventurous inner side of yourself finally showing. But you found your legs starting to move to their own accord as you began to zooming off with the random stranger.
You ran and ran like your life depended on it. The cold winter air ran through your hair, and for a moment, you finally felt like you could breathe again. As if some sort of craze has taken over you, you began to laugh maniacally like there was no tomorrow. You laughed and screamed along with the others as you continued to run. You went on without stopping until you reached the shores of a nearby beach.
The stranger finally let go of your hand, and for a moment, the world around you went still. You stood there staring at each other for what felt like forever before he finally spoke up with a grin. "Well, that was a good one, wasn't it?" He laughed as the boys that were with him also started to chuckle. You continued to stare, looking like a lost deer caught in headlights. "I'm sorry," the boy continued on. "You just looked like you needed something to spice up your life; you looked quite bored up there."
The realization that he was actually speaking to you and that you needed to form some sort of response hit you. You started fumbling for words, the shock from the previous events only now beginning to set in. "I-I yea I mean I.." you trailed off, being at a loss of words.
"It's ok, you can find the right words later. Now how about we continue on this adventure. It would be pretty pointless for you to stop now, wouldn't it be?" He replied before you had the chance to actually come up with a coherent sentence.
After a couple seconds, you came to the final conclusion that he was right. You pondered your options. You could either go home to your most likely drunk mother, who wouldn't have noticed that you had already missed your curfew, or you could take a chance for once in your life. You really didn't have much to lose, so you might as well finish what had already been started, right?
So off you went with him, getting on the back of his bike, you set off.
Riding across abandoned highways, you screamed at the top of your lungs and laughed as you've never done before. At that moment, you felt so free. The stranger promised to show you the brightest sky of stars you've ever seen in your life, and with a smile, you agreed.
You finished the night learning that the boy's name was Jung Hoseok. You memorized the stars in his eyes over the stars in the night sky. You'll never know what it was exactly that drove Jung Hoseok to grab you that day, perhaps fate? Or maybe he just needed a new play toy on that specific night. But at that moment, Jung Hoseok had become your own personal savior, a beam of light that shined down into your dying world. Whether he was an angel sent from above or the devil himself, you weren't sure, but one thing was for sure, you were in love.
But that was in the past. Now, you're stuck in a small apartment in the middle of Seoul alone, working an ok job, eating, sleeping, surviving. But Jung Hoseok, however, Jung Hoseok had become a living god. Even that in itself seemed to be an understatement. His power ran through the streets of Seoul and all the way around the world. Owning Seoul's most prominent and most influential company. No matter how you think about it, you can't seem to shake off the bubbling sense of anger. How you had abandoned your whole family, your whole life back in Busan to follow him here, to a foreign city that you didn't know. How you had stood by his side through all the questionable things he did and all the pain that he caused, only to be left on the curb when he finally decided that you were no longer good enough for him.
The truth was the fact that you had never really gotten over him. How could you? He was your world, your life, your everything. And the moment he walked out of your life, he took a part of you with him.
Sometimes you would reminisce on the old times. The days where the two of you were still trapped in that little town and had nothing else to hold but each other. Hoseok had always been the bigger dreamer out of the two of you. With his miniature gang activities within the town, he had always believed that there was something more. He wanted to see the world, to soar above the clouds, and to experience life. In fact, he was the one that had brought up the topic of Seoul first.
It was four in the morning, and the sun was about to rise as you and Hoseok lay at that beach where you had first met when he finally brought it up.
"Let's go to Seoul" the offer was so sudden, so out of the blue, that you laughed, thinking he was joking.
"I'm not joking," he starts again. "Let's go to Seoul. Let's get out of here."
"Hoseok," you say, slowly starting to sit up, "You can't be serious, can you? We're both dead broke. There's no way we can just spontaneously decide that we're going to Seoul."
You had just graduated high school a year ago and had immediately taken up several part-time shifts at places all across town to try to provide for your family. For people like you, the idea of college was merely a luxury that you couldn't afford.
âJien-ah listen to me ok? Staying here is a dead-end road. We'll never be able to amount to anything" Hoseok stood up and started to shake the sand off of him. "You KNOW that we have to leave at one point or another. Didn't you want to go to college? We have futures. There are things out there for you to see, places to visit. We can't stay here. You know that"
You sat there, not knowing what to think. You knew deep down that Hoseok was right. You couldn't stay holed up in this good-for-nothing town forever. You had to leave. But you were scared, scared of change. The future seemed so terrifying you didn't know if you wanted to jeopardize your future more than needed.
It wasn't until weeks later did Hoseok bring up the topic of Seoul again. It was after another screaming match with your mother about her drinking habits. This time the two of you were sitting on the roof of your old high school. Your eyes were poofy after having cried out probably all of the water that was in your body when he asked the same question again, "let's run away to Seoul." This time, without hesitation, you answered, "ok."
The decision to move to Seoul with him was both the hardest and easiest one in your life. You knew you had to leave the town that trapped you. Still, the watering eyes of your siblings and the familiarity of everything around you made it so hard to leave. The hurt and betrayal that your siblings had felt the second you walked out of your run down house was enough to have you on your knees. But for once, you wanted to be selfish, to finally chase what you had wanted in life. So after much pondering and hundreds of shifts at your several part-time jobs, you finally packed all of your things in one suitcase, and you left. You walked out of that door, got on Hoseok's bike, and off the two of you drove. From that moment on, you never looked back because you knew that you couldn't. There was no longer a home that you could go to, no matter how crappy, no, Hoseok was all you had now.
Hoseok had told you before you moved that he had connections from old friends in Seoul that had gotten him a job. Apparently, this job had come with an apartment which meant that housing wouldn't be a problem. You, being the naive girl you were, never really questioned this said job and its description. Instead, you busied your first couple of weeks in Seoul, settling into your new apartment. Though it was small, it was still something that you and Hoseok could call your own. You found a job as a barista at the cafe down the street, and life began to fall into a comfortable routine.
For the first two years, the two of you were happy. Hoseok was doing well in his job, so well that two of you were able to enroll you in your nearby college, and you began to study literature. Hoseok never really discussed his job with you, claiming that he didn't like to bring work home. You never really asked either, accepting that his work was the only part of him that he likes to keep to himself. You busied yourself with work and school, you were finally able to live the life you had spent years being envious of. You went to college, made friends, had nights out, and had an amazing boyfriend that loved you. There was simply nothing that could bring you down from the high you were from. Little did you know that it was only the beginning
You set your steaming mug of hot tea on your nightstand, thinking fondly back to the years where your future had seemed so bright. Everything you could've imagined and more. You were finally on the right track, a college degree, hopefully, a good job, a stable income, and maybe children in the near future with a man that you loved. You had slowly begun to lose your edge, you no longer felt sorry for yourself, and slowly, you were starting to believe in the statement that as long as you work hard, you'll be able to reach the goal you had always been so desperately longing for.
But like most good things in your life, they don't last.
It's your fourth year in Seoul and your third year in college when you start noticing the shift in Hoseok's behavior. He left for work so early in the morning and came back so late that you almost never saw him. He seemed to come home later and later each day. The two of you no longer ate dinner together, or baked cookies, or watched your favorite movies, hell, you had barely had a proper conversation in weeks. He wouldn't reply to your messages, once again using work as an excuse, and never picked up your calls. It almost seemed as if you were dating a ghost.
Even though the whole situation made you feel uneasy and as if you were put on the back burner, you never brought it up to him. You were a coward. You were petrified because a part of you deep down knew what this meant, that he had lost interest. You don't blame him though, the two of you had been together for so long there was no longer anything new or exciting. He didn't take you on motorcycle rides anymore. Being in a large city like Seoul, there were no beaches to explore and no abandoned highways to see the stars from. He no longer had the time for you, and you knew it.
Hoseok's job had gotten even more important as time had passed by. He had been promoted and had been making more money than you could have ever imagined. Your little apartment had been traded in for a penthouse that was too big for you and no longer felt like home. Your wardrobe was filled with designer that you weren't used to. Hoseok had gotten rid of his leather jacket and motorcycle and traded them in for a Mercedes and expensive suits. He no longer smiled at you like the sun, and whenever he did smile, it almost seemed forced.
But you never bought any of this up; you simply greeted him with a smile and kiss whenever he had the time. Your mind would often wander off to places it shouldn't go; perhaps he was cheating on you? It wouldn't be hard for a man like him to find women that fancy him. He probably had millions lining up wanting and wishing for some of his attention. He was no longer the scruffy boy that took you on adventures and swore to protect you from the rest of the world.
There were days where you would lie on the king-sized bed you shared with your close to nonexistent boyfriend, thinking of the better days. The days where the two of you were cramped in that small apartment, the days where he would help you with dinner and almost burned down the house, the nights where you talked about everything and nothing at the same time. You ran your hands around the ring attached to the necklace that rests perfectly on your collarbones.
You were slowly stirring the boiling stew in your kitchen while anxiously stared at the clock. Hoseok should've been back hours ago. He hadn't called saying he would be late, and in the years you had been together, Jung Hoseok had never been late without calling. You were worried. It had been close to a year since you've moved to the big city, and life was going pretty well. Granted, there were still days where you and Hoseok struggled with the bills and had arguments like any other couple. But the two of you were living your dream lives, and it couldn't have been any better.
Right as you were about to get lost in your own daydream, Hoseok came bounding in like a kid on Christmas day.
"Hey, why didn't you call? I was so worried-" before you could finish, you scolding Hoseok had already folded you in his arms with a bear hug.
"I love you," He mumbled into your hair. "You know that, right? That I love you?"
"Of course I know. Jung Hoseok, is this your way of trying to get out of trouble? I swear-" But before you could finish the cut, you off again by whipping a small red box out of his pocket, and you gasped.
"Don't worry, I'm not about to propose to you in the middle of our kitchen," He laughed "that would be kind of lame. But this is for you" He opened the box and in it was a beautiful diamond ring. "I've been saving up for months. This isn't an engagement ring. It's only a man-made diamond. But one day-" He pointed outside your window, "I'll buy us a penthouse in one of those buildings in, and I'll really get down on one knee, then I'll ask you to marry me. But for now, this is just a promise ring. I promise one day I'll marry you." He looked up at you expectantly after his long speech. You were staring back at him with tears in your eyes as you choked out a simple "ok."
The two of you held each other for what felt like forever until you smelled something burning in the air, and you realized that the stew you had on the stove was now burnt.
You can't help but smile as you think back to those bittersweet memories. It's been over 4 years since Jung Hoseok has made that decisive step out of your life. But you still wore that necklace as a reminder of the better days. The days where the naive little girl in you still believed in love. When you still believed that as long as you gave in a relationship, you would surely receive.
You're smarter now; you've grown up. You no longer believed in the sweet words of others, and you no longer fell for sparkling eyes. Jung Hoseok had ruined that for you. You were rougher around the corners, and deep down, you knew that perhaps your story with him wasn't as special as you put it out to be because, in the end, you were just another one of his chapters to his never-ending story or girls. But sometimes, you liked to try to convince yourself that you had been something more. You can't help but think that maybe, you could've been something more.
It's midnight, and you've already had an entire bottle of champagne to yourself. Hoseok wasn't home, but that was no surprise. He never was. You laughed quietly at how pathetic you had become. Since when were you one to not speak your mind? But now, here you were terrified out of your mind at the notion of bringing up fears to your boyfriend, who, keep in mind, was supposed to be the one that you were to trust the most, he was supposed to be your home, he was all you had left. But no, you were a coward that was terrified of being alone, so you never brought it up in fear that he would leave you.
The front door creaked, then opened, and in walked Jung Hoseok in all of his broken glory. An expensive Armani suit `bedazzled with gold cuffs adorned his toned figure, paired with Louis Vuitton slippers and his newly acquired stoic expression. If you hadn't known any better, you would've mistaken him to be one of the born elites that the two of you used to despise. But you knew, you hoped and prayed that deep down, somewhere where light could still reach, the boy with shaggy brown hair that looked at you instead of the night sky still existed. That perhaps he was just a little lost and needed some coaxing to come back. Those were the thoughts that kept you sane as the past couple of months had unraveled.
Slowly you stood from your stool and made your way towards the front door. Hoseok was in the process of hanging up his trench coat when he noticed your presence, almost immediately freezing after the realization. There was an unexplainable tension in the air, a silence so thick it could've drowned you both. The two of you stood in front of each other. Either of you dared to utter a word. It was almost as if you both knew that once the conversation started, you would no longer be able to go back to pretending that everything was ok again. After what seemed like hours, you were the one that made the first move, maybe it was the alcohol in your veins that prompted your next words, but at that moment, with all the pent-up anxiety and hurt, you no longer cared. Mustering up all your courage, you finally asked him the question that you had been dying to know. "Do you still love me?"
Deep down, you both knew that the end was inevitable. You both wanted different things now. While you were still envisioning white picket fences and running children, Hoseok had started to see more. He wanted power and control, he wanted to be known, to be respected, and he knew that all of that would have to come at a price. He was selfish, he didn't want to have to choose, no he wanted to have both.
It's three in the morning, and Jung Hoseok stood on the roof of his million-dollar penthouse. The wind was blowing, the skies dark, signaling the arrival of a storm. As Hoseok starred up into the seemingly endless sky, his own storm brewing inside his head. The world underneath him seemed so distant and small, almost ant-like. Compared to his inner hurricane, all the Honks and raging cars of the rush hour seemed practically serene.
As expected, he started hearing her calling out to him from a distance. She whispered his name, soft and gentle, like the waves by the beach she used to love so much. Hoseok would often hear the voice in the distant winds. It was as if she was so close, just in hand's reach. But whenever he reached out to grab her, she would disappear again.
She was the air he breathed, the drug that he couldn't cut, and if her love were the ocean, he would willingly drown in it. He would do anything just to escape this endless wondering and meaningless life of counting off the days. He would do anything to be able to breathe again. Without her, he was colorblind; his world became a black and white movie that he couldn't quite wrap his head around. Because if we were honest, what was the point of a prince charming without his princess, and what's so heroic about the knight in shining armor without his damsel in distress. Without her, he meant nothing, and his life was meaningless.
Perhaps that was what it was meant to be all along, a tragedy, another pair of star-crossed lovers that bit the dust.

The Kermadecs/RangitÄhua (Info post 1)
Introduction
Okay, apparently Iâm not settled enough to write, so instead Iâm going to start spamming you all with the research I did for Weâll Be Home for Christmas where I took the boys on a boat ride between Auckland, New Zealand and Tracy Island.
This is truly behind the scenes on this fic, but I did so much research that can be related to Tracy Island that I not only found fascinating, but totally geeked out on, that I want to share. This is also good fodder for working out what Tracy Island actually looks like.
It should be noted that the peeps who created Thunderbirds Are Go definitely did their research, because it was more a case of me finding out why the models actually looked the way they did and why certain design choices were made.
Anyways, I figure I will start at Auckland where Gordo purchased his boat (okay, Gordon, itâs a luxury yacht, yeah, whatever - though tell me how you managed to get that yellow stripe painted down its side in two days and prep for a major sea voyage on such short notice ::hides plot hole behind a âWho cares? Apparently I doâ sign::).
But first here is some very basic general info sites on the Kermadecs as an introduction. I trawled these sites trying to piece together images in my head of the place so I could write about it.
New Zealand Department of Conservation
Kermadecs on Wikipedia (yes, the Librarian says Wikipedia is a great place to start - not finish - your research) They have links at the bottom of articles that lead to interesing places.
I placed Tracy Island a little north-west of the Monowai sea mount based on this screenshot below from Breakdown.
But John also points Tracy Island out in Ring of Fire.
Kermadecs on Google Maps - you will have to zoom in alot. But I definitely poked around here alot as well. This is where, once I had thought of putting the boys on a boat back on December 7, 2019, I looked to find out exactly what lay between Aotearoa and Tracy Island. I was sooo excited to find a trail of islands perfect for my purposes. I had never heard of them and fell into the net looking for info.
On Google Maps, you can see the Kermadec Ridge and Trench (paradise for our Gordy to explore) which is the main cause for the islandsâ existence.
The Kermadecs are a chain of volcanoes up the length of that ridge created by a subduction zone in the trench. We are talking big volcanoes and big events in this area. Many of them are submerged and even some with islands above sea level have volcanoes beneath them that are rather large.
It should be noted, with respect, that the day after I discovered the existence of these islands, the furthest south island of them all, Whakaari/White Island, erupted while a group of tourists were on the volcano and twenty-one people were killed and a further twenty-six were injured.
So, in a way, the Kermadecs really came to life for me that week. It really is a beautiful, but treacherous place.
There will be more of these posts focussing on specific places and things I had to research for the fic. I hope you find them interesting as they all relate to the area around the Island our boys call home. And yes, Iâm a complete geek.
But this is truly an amazing corner of the planet and is well worth a look.

Tips on creating fun fanfic headers!
i had so much fun writing the fanfic writing tips yesterday and i got a few more questions about header-making, and so i decided to make one more of these! i hope these tips help somebody out there! hope you enjoy :)Â
p.s. these tips wonât require any hard editing skills or photoshop skills, nor any expensive tablets/apps!Â
typically i spend around ~5-10 min creating one header, and thatâs either after i think of/finish a fic. i have so much fun doing it and sharing it with you that i figured iâd share how i do it!Â
why headers?Â
as I talked about in my fic tips, one of the most eye-catching things about fics are headers. when iâm scrolling through a rec page, my home page, a tag, or even someoneâs masterlist, iâm immediately drawn to well-made headers. thatâs what captures my attention, and then iâm more drawn in by the content. so, you can say that headers is your own version of an ad for your own fic, or an extension of it (like the cover of a novel!)Â
if you were writing your own book, imagine how much time youâd spend figuring out what you wanted your cover to look like. i try to have as much fun and invest as much time making my own headers because itâs just the cherry on top to my finished product :)Â
disclaimer:Â BUT HEADERS ARE NOT NECESSARY/DO OR DIE! if you donât feel like you want to do this, then keep writing! its ok! this is just a suggestion. iâve seen plenty of well-written fics without headers at all, so donât beat yourself up over not having one/not wanting to do one. this is truly just a fun, extra kind of thing, and only keep reading if you want to learn how i do it! :)Â
tips for people who donât want to make headers: if you still want something to make your fic stand out, use gifs! i use them in my drabbles a lot! this will at least give ur fic a lil boost!Â
how to find pictures
I typically use unsplash, which is a free website in which photographers upload their HQ pics for free use. the pics are really high quality, typically stock photos, and donât have any logos on them like other ones on google. unfortunately, you wonât find any pics of the members or anything, but youâll find beautiful stock photos of typical scenes like âocean sceneâ or âdesert scene.â I found the stock photo for cut me open (shown below) on that site by just looking up âmedicalâ or âdoctorâ.Â
i used to use google a lot and just use keywords like âdesert scene HQâ and edit the search settings to deliver HQ pics, and a minimum # of pixels, but unplash is definitely better in terms of quality, more aesthetic photos, and no logos/watermarks.Â
on some occasions, i will screenshot some scenes of youtube videos, turning up the quality to 1080p or 4k and zooming in so that the pixelation is as crisp as possible, and then editing it later to look good (which iâll explain in a second!)Â
the above photo was a scene from the specific characters from the drama, â100 Days My Princeâ that I screenshotted from a youtube video that TvN uploaded, recapping the drama. I cropped it just right so that their faces were left out, which iâll also mention soon!Â
things to look for when picking pictures:Â
you want the picture to reflect a specific motif/theme from your fic! if its a moody fic, then try to find a moody scene that you can edit with filters/lighting to look even moodier; or if the charactersâ jobs are a big portion of the fic (like cut me open/doctor theme) try to look for stock photos with that shown very clearly!
make sure its high quality: tumblr really dumbs down the quality of the photo when uploading it, so try your best to find something with a lot of pixels in it so that when you start editing, you donât sacrifice too much of the quality already
try to look for something simple/clean:Â a picture with too much subject (ie. people in the background, or too much detail) may end up taking away from the main point of your header, which is your title. so find pics without too much clutter!Â
try to make sure its landscape: which will help during editing to save some of the quality better.Â
editing your pictures
now that you have a specific photo you want to use, now its time to edit! I use VSCO CAM (free app) and my own apple photos cropping tool for faster crops.Â
crop/adjust: if your picture is too large/wide, crop it to at least a 16:9 ratio. iâd say aim for skinnier if you can, so that you donât take up too much space (especially if youâre planning to add headers to your masterlist). also crop out any faces, any clutter, any unnecessary details, so you have a nice, clean slate to work on when adding text.Â
contrast/sharpen/clarity/white balance/etc.: iâm not gonna give you a lesson on photography, but iâll tell you I learned like 80% of everything that i know just by fiddling with it on VSCO! So just try it out and play with the app, see what you can make of it. iâd say a rule of thumb to follow is that you want happier fics with a brighter tone, and moodier/angsty fics with a darker tone so that it can reflect the nature of the fic further, without saying anything!Â
if you wanna be extra af like me, then go a step further and photoshop your pics. this one is a good example; when i screenshotted this scene from another youtube video for my fic One Year My Love part 2, i was specifically looking for a scene that would showcase the ornate/regal details of their clothing/environment in contrast to part 1â˛s modest clothing/scene (the first header in this post).Â
i found this scene, but actually, this scene portrays the Crown Prince and the Princess, not y/n. So, the actors werenât smiling at all! They were actually frowning at eachother in this scene, to portray the tension between the two characters and their marriage.Â
So, I took the extra step, adjusting the pic with VSCO so that their shoulders/chins were at the same level, cropped off their faces up until their lips, and then used the adobe photoshop free app to photoshop their lips to be SMILING at eachother!!!! subtle, but important!Â
call me crazy for taking that much time but iâm so proud of how it turned out and i loved every second of making this one. that way, this scene makes it portray the happy ending for Jungkook and y/n!Â
adding text to your header
you can use any app out there, but i really like Font Candy! I actually ended up buying the 2$ version of this and never regretted it, but you can actually find a lot of their basic fonts on the free version; I tend to use the fonts: OSTRICH SANS, BEBAS, TREND, and INTRO the most! these are pretty clean-looking, block letters that look good whenever i put them as my titles.Â
I love this app too cause you can easily control the spacing between letters to make them take up more space, add shadows, or even make them contrast their background using the overlay feature; like this one i made for wildest dreams (see how the text changes depending on what part of the photo its on? amazing! itâs literally with a click of a button!!)
And iâll always add âwritten by HAYJEONâ or âby HAYEJONâ, space it out, and add it somewhere underneath as my own branding.
orrrrrrÂ
if you want to be more creative, you can even go a step further and use whatever you have on hand to enhance whatever youâre trying to portray.Â
for this one, i ended up finding this amazing photo on unsplash and i thought it would do a create job of portraying the âmovie-setâ quality of what wildest dreams is going to be about. this stock photo had someone elseâs names on it, so i used my ipad, and used instagram to just erase the existing writing with the color of the background, and then wrote in my own title and url with my own handwriting/apple pen!!!Â
i thought this was pretty cool because itâs like wildest dreams is its own movie/has its own movie set, which, once itâs out, you guys will see that itâs supposed to be!Â
saving/uploading
this is pretty easy/obvious, but i figured iâd mention it. all the apps i mentioned are available on the appstore, and they will save directly to your photos. after doing that, iâll just upload them into a special folder i have on my google drive so that when iâm finished writing a fic on tumblr using my laptop, i can easily download the photos without sacrificing quality. easy!Â
and that way, i can save them forever; even if i have to delete them from my computer, i can always redownload them!Â
side note: making text separators
i just recently started doing this, but ever since tumblr took down their text separators, iâve just been cropping the bottom like 5-10 pixels of the header to use as my text separators! (with my laptop)
i saw some other writer doing it and thought that it looked better than what i had used previously (a cropped photo of a random line i found on google); i found that doing this tied my fics together a little better and just looked better aesthetically;Â
so there it is! hope you enjoyed! :) i would love to see what other tips you guys have been using, feel free to send me an ask or reply to this post; and if you end up using any of my tips, please let me know! I love to hear from you guys all the time <3Â
lots of love, especially during these times,Â
hay <3Â
