the coolest kids in forgotten valley!!â
(âŚit seems there may have been a stretch of time where rock and lumina were the only kids in forgotten valleyâŚđĽ˛)
poseref
#in the remake hugh and the playerâs kid are the same number of years apart#so i can see them having very similar conversations n friendship#surely these two kids will grow up well adjusted and they will have no lasting effects from this kind of isolation. they will be fine#i have been thinking a lot about what their childhoods were like. i want to protect both of them#everyone who has anything to say about them as kids says that both of them were not well behaved children at all#tei says rock was rambunctious and energetic and hard to handle. sebastian says lumina was less than amenable#rock says he was bored to death when he first came here and lumina asks you not to tell romana that sheâs lonely#lumina also hated wearing dresses so. she is very mad and ready to bite people maybe#sos awl#bokumono#my art#rock tumbling (sos)#harvest moon#story of seasons#story of seasons a wonderful life#bokujou monogatari#i like to imagine a au where pony and cecilia come to visit their familyâs respective farms#so these two can have more friends ;w;#i am always thinking about how they were both severed from their families and taken in by someone else at a young age to live in nowhere#and they are both not exactly enthused about following the path laid out for them#headcanon â ď¸ i wonder if rockâs moving out on his own happened when he was a teenager. he was extremely confident everything would work out#anyway he got fired from every job ever and after many years came crawling back. and he came crawling back blond#at the time of chapter 1 lumina is baffled by the state of the guy she grew up with. why is he using dated slang and wearing disco costume#she is also kind of mad at him for having been gone for so long#hc ârock probably had more freedom as a kid than lumina did which probably annoyed her#once again takakura retrieves a small rock from the goddess pond and heâs covered in poison ivy bee stings etc. no remorse#lumina from her window on the hill feels somehow jealous of these misadventures#lumina mentions in her heart event that she doesnât often visit the beach because her skin burns easily#meanwhile rock was probably playing outside always. if his kid is any indication#idk i like thinking about the history of this extremely small village

another very silly writing rule I remember from high school english class was the idea that you should not repeat yourself in essays. books and essays that restate their main argument each time they present new evidence has always been very effective for my own learning, especially when the topic is complicated. the âno repeatsâ rule makes sense when itâs used to discourage students from trying to beef up word count and encourage students to properly synthesise their own arguments, but it was never explained to me in those terms, it was all just these writing axioms you had to follow to produce a âgoodâ piece of writing
#book club#reading orientalism again and said has repeated his thesis statement dozens of times in the first chapter alone#and like itâs incredibly helpful that he does that#in fact I think one of the bookâs biggest strengths is the fact that he constantly repeats his main argument every single time he describes#a new piece of evidence. like âsee this fits my framework. and this. and this. and this. and also thisâ etc#and I see it a lot in persuasive writing#relentlessly hammering your point is a certain style that cen be extremely effective#anyway just saying this in the sense of like#a lot of the issues with the ârulesâ you learn in english#arenât that theyâre inherently bad itâs that teachers refuse to explain why#and just expect you to take their wisdom for granted at all times#I remember the no-repeats rule really hampering my ability to write early on in undergrad#and once I let go of it writing became a lot easier lol

It's like.
Sharena is Alfonse and Lif's sister (complicated on Lif's end but roll w me here) but neither Alfonse/Lif would consider each other brothers because they're one and the same. I think something similar happened with Peony and Sharena, where they started out as two people but became so intertwined and entangled that they became each other. Alfonse is Sharena's brother, unshakable, by choice now. Nothing will change the fact that, at one point, Sharena stopped swapping with Peony. Nothing changes the fact that at one point, that's the Sharena he grew up with, that he knows as his sister now. And even before then, "What's mine is yours". Alfonse was Peony's brother, so Alfonse is Sharena's brother. Unbeknownst to him, he had two sisters. Up until A Point.
So, in a similar way that Sharena is a sister to both Alfonse and Lif but Alfonse and Lif aren't brothers, Peony is Alfonse's sister but not Sharena's sister. Fused (Sharena and Peony) or Died (Alfonse and Lif). What does this make Triandra to Sharena? Another estranged sibling essentially, just like Peony and Alfonse, especially by "What's mine is yours" rules. Triandra was Sharena's sister. So Triandra is Peony's sister. What does this make Alfonse and Triandra? Technically unrelated. If the divorce game is insane you can have Sibling A be halfsies with Sibling B (eg: shared dad different moms) and Sibling B can have a Sibling C (same mom different dads) and Siblings A and C are literally unrelated (no shared parents between them). To me I like to think of Alfonse and Triandra as distant cousins. That is not how that works in this example but this is my belief based on vibes alone.
And man don't even get me started on how Triandra and Peony feel like half-siblings despite being (presumably) full siblings but Freyja fucking took her sister in the divorce (sibling. Divorce. Well. At least they're not together.)
#feh#back on this fucking bullshit LMFAOOOOOOOOO#i don't think it's going anywhere but like. look into my mind boy. as i parse all this out#the fucking. took x thing in the divorce joke is so natural to me i legitimately didn't think twice#that. literally happens. parents do take siblings in the fuckinh divorce. like that literally fucking happens.#one thing that drives me insane is how divorce coded this entire fuckinh situation is#and yet. henriette and gustav are the most fascinating study into a loving marriage until death do us part like literally.#also like. might be playing w fire here but intsys started it. reading the sweet dream/nightmare split#caused by freyr and freyja as a divorce situation is also really fascinating. not like literally#more like. figuratively. but the effects are extremely similar. the divide between family is what i'm getting at here#and esp how freyja at least very much acts as a mother figure to the nightmare fairies#like again. intsys started it. i'm just working with what you gave me.#sharena#fe peony#fe alfonse#fe triandra

Ep 4 :)
#I LIKE Dostoyevsky. I like how mysterious and unreadable he is. What is his goal!!!! Why does he do what he does!!!!!!! He's very cool#I think knowing his ability now REALLY adds to his character. Him being so smart so manipulative so disruptive in the way heâ#seemingly kills people on touch! Only added to this impression of him being âdemonâ and âinhumanâ#But now that we know his ability you realize... That's all his doing; no ability.#His ability in a way does help humanize him by reaffirming that except for the moment he diesâ he's got no superpower at all!!!#It's just him.#And yet at the same time also solves the exact opposite role of dehumanizing him because if it's not his ability that makes him like *that*#then he's even different than other ability users!!! Thenâ if not an ability userâ if not a non ability user: what is //he//?#It's all SO compelling!!! Also makes for an extremely insightful narrative parallel with Dazai#Not an ability user not a non ability user. Not good not evil. (I feel like Dostoyevsky does exceed the definitions of good and evil asâ#much as Dazai does. If he causes evilâ yet does so with the intention of bringing salvation to humansâ is he really *simply* evil?)#Both have these borderline superpowers that make them extraordinary beings (we can call it super intelligenceâ but it goes from controlling#their own heartbit to everything else) but are unrelated to their respective abilities! Once again making them neither this or that#I find Karma's words at the end to be extremely insightful.âAce was evil for sureâ but this man isn't even evil.#He's a being from the beyond. A being that exceeds human limits.â Like!!! That's all that there is to it!!!!!!#Back to this chapter / episode. There's some themes / worldvies once again I don't agree with but narrative wise I think it's extraordinary#I feel like after the Guild arc the writing really matured a lot and this is a kind of preview of what the doa arc is going to be like#(aka very very well written especially if compared to the previous arcs)#The plot twists of this episode are all so unpredictable and exciting!!! I think it's remarkably witty how it takes advantages of previousâ#clichĂŠs - villains always revealing details about their own ability in a way that is quite baffling - to actually surprise the audience.#It's so effective. How skillfully unpredictable Dostoyevsky is to the point you can never guess what he will do next!!!#Him killing Karma is... Idk so so soooooooo interesting. I could talk about this forever but I'm being very dispersive in the rable andâ#running out of tags. The whole episode you're sorta rooting for Dostoyevsky. He's very cool and comes out charming in the way he keepsâ#surprising the audience. He looks bothered by Ace's disregard of other people's lives and that makes him sympathetic too.#But then he kills Karma out of nowhere and it's an âAh! You fell for his lies tooâ remember he's nothing but evil. He cares just as little#about life as Ace doesâ. And then??? Karma in his last words is himself so generous in his words to Dostoyevsky. It's baffling.#And it almost feels like thenarrative is once again turning around and telling you you should root for Dostoyevsky.#It's endlessly fascinating.#I have more to say about the worldviews I don't share and the art style Dostoyevsky was portrayed with this episode (love it!!)#But alas ran out of tags

i personally believe that deku is more likely to have vices than katsuki
#idkidkidk it's just the gut feel#they're both extremely stubborn just in different ways#but i think deku's a lot more susceptible to trying new things especially when he's under pressure#and i think his obsessive behavior makes him cling onto things easily --- it's easy for him to form habits whether it's good or bad#i also think deku's disregard for himself translates like. it wouldn't bother him as much that smoking is bad for him#he wouldnt care if the sleeping pills are bad for him down the line --- as long as it gets the job done for him to perform properly NOW#maybe unless mama inko or all might begs him to stop sjdfhbks#i feel like katsuki doesn't really give in that easily and is a bit rigid in that regard that he sticks to doing things his own way#i also think katsuki... tho equally as insane... kind of has a future-sense to him? IDK. like. he looks very much towards the ripple effect#like he understands the concept that if he unnecessarily ruins his body for immediate relief it won't be good in the long haul#and it's an overall decrease in performance eventually.#IDKIDKIDK my mind is stewing... brewing... thinking...#FORGIVE ME IF THE TAKE IS WRONG HBFAHAHAHAAH#this concept is a bit darker than i'd write so idk if i ever will but these are just my Thoughts#i talked so much again

Outta curiosity - reblog and put in the tags the ways your brainrot has consumed you the most. Like, my little brother is on his 15th rewatch of NCB Hannibal. What about you? What's your sign of brainrot?
#as for me -#my real life legal name happens to be quite similar to ''Aleister''#so when it comes to signing things - formsâď¸ emailsâď¸ GFMsâď¸ the like -#I'll usually put Crowley's first name down instead of my own#and then I'll be like ''wait a second. something seems off about this''#and I'll go to try again and promptly write ''Aleister'' a second time đ¤Ś#(there was also the time I stopped performing all function required to sustain life and traded it for playing Hostile Kabbalah Spreadsheets)#posts I would make if I was on tumbler#also don't worry if it's nothing extreme! or if it's a *good* type of ''brain-rot!''#I just wanna see what effects stuff you're passionate about has on your brains!!!

i'm not tired, i'm exhausted
#my head is full of sooo many thoughts and i'm feeling way too many emotions right now#i struggled with my thesis today again after a few months break#yesterday a guy i'm kind of getting to know asked me a question that hit home when we were talking about the effects of past events#â'last time when cuddling and i gave you a kiss you tensed up completely for a sec. was that you being shy or being uncomfortable. '#i didn't even realise it and now i'm feeling extremely anxious about my subconscious acting out when i am in fact feeling comfortable#background: he knows my history of unpleasant events concerning intimacy/sex and he's very mindful about it yet challenges me in a good way#but now i am a mixture of extreme exhaustion experiencing high levels of fondness and yet feeling extremely agitated#and having constant minor flashbacks and i really don't know what to do or how to merely exist in this moment now#not going to bother anyone with this and my thoughts as they are having a good time and that also goes for the pretty nice guy i mentioned#so i'm on my own in my own company#maybe some music crying and ice cream straight from the tub would help haha#thank you for taking your time to read this mess love you and have a nice morning day or night#literally no one cares emma

Good morning. You wanna know why, to me, Batfleck's version is the best Bat version to be the defacto JL Leader because this Broose is so humbled by the tragedy and grief of his mistakes that what breaks him out of his madness and depression is optimism and hope. Even when he knows, that inkling feeling in the back of his mind, that he was going to die trying.
#Like time and time again#broose is such an effective medium for legacy#because even in comics#his hope and optimism lies in the hand of his children#and ensuring they will be able to build the better future he cannot#But also cos like a lot of writers don't actually know how to write batman with the league without making it extremely superbat nor#just straight out nerving broose#cos how u gonna make him go out there and fight gods with just a cape and a belt#insanity#out.

so i went to reblog some fanart earlier and started to tag it #oh this is. incredible actually, and then paused and thought, @âself why the 'actually.' what is that adverb conveying. and i contemplated it for a bit, and finally concluded: well, shit. it's reflexive deprecation.
the thing is, deprecation is my starting position pretty much always, and that's a problem in itself, but mostly my problem; but when you're talking abt somebody else's work, and you start backing defensively away from imagined negativity before anyone's even actually voiced any? you may think you're playing bodyguard, but in reality you're the vanguard of the assault, opening a wedge for enemy forces to strike.
i was talking a couple of weeks ago abt seeing ppl tag that kristin sue lucas name-multiplied-by-one post with tags like 'this is art To Me' vel sim., and honestly i think it's a similar sort of reflexâi think exposure to the tumblr vernacular often leads people (very much including me!) to produce turns of phrase like this, that ultimately serve to convey roughly
'i, a clever girlblogger,š am, yeah, engaging with this frivolous hai pollai²-coded material; but my relationship to it, unlike that of most she-ple, is Intellectual and Analytical and Examined! and to make that clear, i'll be dropping in these little verbal particles from time to time, in order to distinguish my own, elevated examination of the subject from the state of risible naiveteÂł i'm implicitly ascribing to the other, more ordinary audience members i'm conjuring up only to instantly put downâbut like, it's fine, i'm a free-and-easy girlblogger(TM), so you can't think i'd ever deliberately propagate establishmentarian prejudices! never mind the effect my rhetoric might subconsciously be having, on me or on anyone elseâŚ'
and i think this framing is worth squinting at, and worth attempting to excise from one's speech and from one's mindset, because when you get right down to it? it's just yet another insidious manifestation of respectability politics, that's gotten people to adopt it via the cuckoo-chick strategy of positioning itself as cutesy tumblr idiolect.
and like, circling back around to that fanart i mentioned at the outset: yeah, the tag did feel weirdly prosodically truncated to me without that 'actually'! but this way, if the artist ends up seeing my discussion of their work in their notes, they won't be getting slapped in the face with a wet dead fish first, so like. what's more important, you know?
⸝ š ""(gender neutral)"" ² https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoi_polloi in the feminine, if i haven't totally fumbled my declensions⌠³ phrasing nicked from a comment of @âproudheron's.
#anyway like. this for sure isn't the definitive post abt this#and really what i'm getting at is just another facet of 'self-deprecation isn't usually actually separable from disparaging others'#but i do think there's a particular subtle flavor of it here that's worth sticking under the microscope in its own right#for those of us who may have breathed it in without noticingâ and now be spreading itâ again without noticingâ in our turn#i mean. obvs also extremely possible i just *think* i've put my finger on something important bc it's late!#but like. imagine taggingâ idkâ the winged victory or sth with 'this is art. to me'#it would be SUCH a weird rhetorical move! but consider: it's *always* a weird rhetorical moveâ actually.#bc fundamentally it's a speech pattern that's seeking affirmation of yr own taste/authority/status as Critic#at the expense of the thing you've evaluatedâ#likeâ you're going 'i think this is neat!! (but that might just be me đ)'#and then other girlbloggers are supposed to be like 'yeah no i totally see what you mean!!!' and affirm you! but the thing isâ#the '(but that might just be me đ)' part doesn't just undercut yr discernmentâ it undercuts the praise *predicated* on yr discernment#so it's like. you're dissing yourself in a way that's supposed to earn you affirmationâ which. is fucked up actuallyâ lol :)#butâit's one thing when you do it to yourself; when you incorporate it into the foundations of yr compliment#you've actually totally undermined that compliment and rendered it an insult#(not to mention undermined the idea that the thing might have merit in itselfâ beyond yr authority to bestow or withholdâ#like. if you're speaking in terms of what's good/deep/Art/&c To You? you've effectively already ceded the main field of universality#and retreated to defend only yr own walled gardenâand implied you'll cede even that small ground if it's disputed)#so like. in the context of yr social relationship with yr followersâ those sorts of qualifiers are affirmation-seeking movesâ#though like. also ones that reinforce yr rhetorical passive-victim positionalityâ in a way you shd perhaps consider *not* reinforcingâ#but in the context of yr interaction with an OP? they're negging.#and i just think like. i get it and i'm @-ing myself here as much as anyone else! but it's notâ likeâ a healed-world way to behave. lol.#so like. consider: tagging things 'art' without the cutesy little qualifiers. praising things without the hedging.#i'm not at all good at that but. i'm going to try.#metatumbling#language#the psyche#'close readings no one needed for 300â alex'#(extremely tempted to just scrap this writeup tbh but like. the thinking was worth doingâ so a record of it is worth keeping)

gimme your top 5 hot takes about rwby
I'm afraid I donât have an accurate gauge of what qualifies as a âhot takeâ (or even what it actually is. Is it merely a controversial opinion?) so if any of these are ice cold I apologize
Adam and the Rose family should be connected in some way. Visual cues are important and there's so much spicy potential, especially if the dynamic originated with Summer
For Roman, the best and longest standing villain of the show, to be one of the few on-screen Grimm deaths is borderline parody. Personally, I think Ruby shouldâve had a more active role in his death, even if by accident or setting up circumstances like she did Neo
Ozmaâs situation is far more horrifying and sympathetic than Salemâs. The gods proved that they could bring Ozma back to life in his own body, but instead heâs forced to be a body snatcher? Thatâs fucked up in so many ways. She may be able to die again and again, but I think itâs way worse to die knowing youâre dooming several people at once
May Marigold isnât that great of trans rep. Sheâs so unmemorable and inconsequential to the plot that the only reason I remember her at all is because sheâs The Trans One. Like, glad they made her trans, and the reveal was respectful and clear and not even plot-relevant!, but maybe make her a good character first?
If weâre going by the showâs queer golden rule of blushing = romantic feelings, then Ruby had a crush on Emerald in V3 and it should have been explored way more for angst purposes
#rwde#thanks for asking#i will never shut up abt adam/rose family connections and theres nothing you can do abt it#blake or weiss being the one to take down roman would also be interesting but i think the most effective dynamic is ruby and roman#honestly you could make a sitcom w those two and id watch the shit out of it#'my roommate is a mob boss'#(depending on how old Roman actually is. RWBY isnt great at depicting ages unless youre on an extreme end)#(idk age them up for college lmao)#also i 100% hc ruby as a trans lesbian#qrow took her to get her first dose of E#trans solidarity babeyyyyy#this is a completely different topic but yangs existence in canon makes way more sense if both tai and raven are trans as well#canon raven does Not seem the type to allow herself to be in a long term relationship much less get pregnant#or if she did she'd take the child to raise as a protege. a true heir to the branwen name#not leave the kid behind for... reasons#why did raven run again? i think the show ended on 'she was scared' or smth. or didnt trust oz bc... bird#idk the show was dumb abt the whole thing#anyway i'll happily explain if anyone wants more elaboration ^w^

finally FINALLY finished watching the legend of korra. it only took me LITERALLY ten years
#tbh lok doesn't make me feel the same way atla does but that isn't necessarily a bad thing#i wish there was more focus on martial arts and history but i understand why there wasn't#history and tradition was EXTREMELY important to aang in ways that it was NOT to korra#i also wish we had seen more silly things about korras childhood but again they were telling a different story so i understand why not#they introduced a lot of new things w this one and i think pro bending was my favorite#cause it was one of the few things that WAS focused on martial arts it was just focused on like. boxing and mma#which is REALLLY fucking cool to see#i have critiques about mako's character but watching him fight was always so much fun because he is straight up mma fighting#for that to be depicted in a show that focused heavily on traditional martial art is so cool to me idk#bolin did it too but earthbending didn't lend itself quite so visually for the same effect#i also ALSO wish the stuff with amon had lasted longer than one season#a big part of atla is that aang is working the whole show to defeat ONE enemy#it felt like there was a new big bad each season#if they went amon -> the red lotus -> the earth empire -> unalaq in terms of season progression#i feel like the stakes would've been paced better yknow??? like the fight against vatuu should've been a Big Fucking Thing#what do i know tho lol#anyway im very excited for the upcoming movie and also the next avatar series#apparently the movie was set to release in 2025 and the series after that but. we'll see

you know i mostly really like my grad program and everything but i have very quickly learned not to ask too much about vision and hearing loss bc it turns out most of the faculty here know very little about those things. they know a little bit about hearing loss but really only in the sense of "get them fitted with hearing aids/CI as early as possible so they can develop like a hearing child". i really wanna learn more about language development in deaf, blind, and deafblind children because that's the population i specifically wanna work with (and have worked with in the past). and it's just been frustrating having my questions about those populations be met with "uh. i'm really not sure."
most of the faculty have been nice about it, but i have had the misfortune of being assigned an advisor who is borderline hostile about it. the first time i brought up this subject, (back through email when i was still deciding where to go), i was asking about an ASL elective that was offered within the program and whether there were any other electives with related topics. she responded by telling me that this was a masters program in speech language pathology, not ASL. great! you could've just said "no." the second time it came up was a few weeks ago when i talked to her about maybe doing a masters thesis (i won't be doing one, by the way). i said that if i were to do one, it would be about deafness, blindness, and/or deafblindness, and she said something like, "that's not a subject that's typically studied or taught in a CSD curriculum". as if it's just crazy that i as a CSD student would want to learn about something as esoteric as fucking vision and hearing loss! what a marvel!! not like those two senses have fucking anything to do with communication huh??? not like children who are deafblind face significant barriers in their development of language, the effects of which i have personally seen in numerous individuals??? clearly i'm really the crazy one here
#sorry this ended up turning into a rant about this specific professor lol#i did mean for it to be more general but she really pissed me off#she has in fact pissed me off two out of the two times i have spoken to her so that's cool#she apparently also sucks as a prof but my cohort has lucked out bc#she was supposed to teach neuro this semester and artic/phono next semester but isn't for unknown reasons#so we get other (better) teachers#apparently i will have to have her this summer tho :/#anyway as to why i'm getting steamed about this weeks after the fact#i'm currently reading a paper on deafblindness (that i personally chose for a class project) and it's just on my mind again#everyone in the class had to pick papers on a population of interest for them (like autism; down syndrome; selective mutism; etc)#and there's a public list of what everyone chose and i'm the only one who chose anything about vision/hearing which i guess isn't surprisin#but yeah the more i think about this stuff the more i kinda wish i had taken all my prereqs so i could have applied to go to gallaudet#if there's any program that's gonna have people who know more about these populations it's there#out of the places i was accepted i feel very confident i chose the best option#this place has a brand new asl program and so they are actively making efforts to raise deaf awareness in the dept#but even with that it's still astonishing how people in this field brush off knowing anything about these populations#like yeah it's very low incidence i can get that#but we still learned a bunch about fucking williams syndrome and that's exceedingly rare#and rare or not it has a demonstrable effect on language development which makes it extremely relevant#jesus i'm sorry for the tag essay i'm gonna stop#i am procrastinating as usual bc i can't focus on this paper even though i am very interested#here is that grad school tag
