My parents are being rude as always. I need to move and I’m forced to sit. It’s called ADHD. Please turn down the radio I don’t like how loud it is, but instead they turned it up on purpose. It’s so loud. I’m really overstimulated now.

Only thing that really gets me happy these days is my buddies. Which is nice, since j can contact most of em whenever. But I’m still so isolated and it sucks. I don’t mind it as mcuh anymore. A knock at the door at this hour was unexpected. Around this time Adri was working one of his early shifts and wasn’t due home for another 5 or so hours.

Though this didn’t mean much to Aki, he was like an excitable dog when there was even the slightest chance of being given attention and/or affection after being pouty and alone. 

He all but threw open the door as a second round of knocking began.

“BABE- Oh hey Aram.” His excitement was dashed considerably upon seeing the complex’s maintenance man and coincidental fellow ancient god. 

“What’d I tell ya about calling me that, Aki? It’s Jack,” Jack huffed in an uncharacteristic tone.

“Yeah, Jack, yeah. What’s up? Adri call you for something? The central air?” Aki leaned against the doorframe, towering even over Jack’s 6’3” of height. 

“Nah, nothin’ like that,” Jack sighed, making a tense gesture of smoothing his hair back only for the curls to bounce back into his face. “Gotta ask ya for some advice.”

“Ohoho what? The love god is asking ME for advice? This is about your boytoy, isn’t it?” Aki’s grin spread unabated at the way Jack rolled his eyes. 

“Can ya ease off me? This isn’t a RELATIONSHIP question per se.” Jack chewed his lip as he spoke. 

“Oh worm? Watcha got for me, what am I working with here?” Aki’s eyebrow arched curiously. A question about Jack’s boyfriend that wasn’t relationship advice? This should be something.

“Ya gonna let me in?” Jack pressed, making a gesture that had Aki shrugging and stepping aside to allow him into the unit. 

“Alright dude, what?” Aki made himself comfortable on the couch, an unspoken invitation to make one’s self at home if you knew how Aki operated. While Jack was the god of love and hedonism and all that good stuff, Aki still encompassed the air of the god of outcasts and desperation. It was easy to feel at ease around him, and it only made Jack more confident that he would have the answers he needed.

“Ya talked about your boyfriend havin’, uh… Problems,” Jack began as he took a seat, making Aki arch a brow again.

“You know, telling me babe has issues isn’t a good opener,” he replied before shaking his head. “But yeah. He does. Where are you going with this?”

“Shit, sorry. What I’m tryin’ to ask is, uh… Well. How do I put this,” Jack mumbled, all but nearly to himself. “Somethin’ about this time of year, holiday season. Bad for ‘im right?”

Aki let out some air through his teeth, resting his arms on the back of the couch and turning his head.

“Yeah. You bet,” he grumbled with a distant expression of annoyance, and yet Jack knew it wasn’t directed at him.

“So uh. Sunshine’s got… a real similar problem. I think an EERILY similar problem, but I don’t wanna think about that too hard, so… How do ya do it, Aki?” Jack damn near gave puppy dog eyes at the question.

Aki turned to look at him again, looking puzzled.

“Do what?”

Jack sighed, making that same damn face.

“Ya know. The being supportive over sensitive subjects thing.”

Aki’s mouth opened and then closed again before his expression became even more perplexed.

“Uh… What? Hey man, you’re the love god here, what’re you asking me for?”

It was Jack’s turn to turn his head, pulling on his shirt collar as he chewed his lip.

“Well yeah, I know THAT. I’ve had countless lovers over the eons, and I’d like to think I was good to every one of ‘em. I like fallin’ in love, I like caring for someone else, especially if they’re a mortal.” His motions transitioned into rubbing the back of his neck. “But I dunno, bud. Feels different now. Don’t like feelin’ especially helpless while honey’s… like that.”

Aki snorted, an almost weary smile on his face. 

“These millennials, man. Issues on top of issues, y’know? Love ‘em to death,” he chuckled. “But you’re especially attached to this guy Jack. I know you fall fast and hard, always have. You were the original doting husband material.” Aki punctuated by giving Jack a gentle push on his shoulder.

“And there’s an and or but in there?” Jack seemed unfazed by the little shove.

“Yeah yeah, I was getting to that.” Aki rolled his eyes. “What I’m saying is, you considered you found your home? Your one, your happy place? Your soulmate, your main squeeze, your-”

“I have, I have,” Jack sighed, running his hand back through his hair again.

“Excellent. That’s why you’re so worried, man. Not saying your past lovers didn’t mean anything to you, but I think Seth is your… what’s Adri say… Guy of all time?” Aki offered a toothy grin as Jack shot him another perplexed look.

“Alright… So can ya move on to the advice?” Jack was usually so laid back and carefree, seeing him like this, all intense and serious, was a bit humorous.

But Aki wasn’t about to say that out loud. 

“Fine, geez. Okay, so what exactly is it? Same shit as Adri and like… most other younguns? Not great association with these stupid holidays? Alright, let me takes see if I can put my methods into words.” Aki leaned over to rest his elbows on his knees, his chin resting on his knuckles. 

Jack patiently waited as Aki’s brow furrowed thoughtfully. This was either going to be really good or really stupid. 

“Well you know… I usually go by way of spite,” Aki finally answered.

A pause.

“Uh. Spite?” Jack couldn’t help but furrow his own brow.

“Yeah, spite. But like, the validating kind, ya know? Like, fuck your shit Santa Claus, we’re gonna get baked and have crazy sex and I’m gonna let babe complain as much as he wants.”

Silence.

“Uh… I like your methods, Aki, but spite ain’t exactly my style…” Jack scratched at his scruffy cheek, looking out the window thoughtfully.

“Yeah, I figured,” Aki sighed with a shake of his head and a shrug. “That’s why I’ve got an ALTERNATIVE for you.”

Jack looked at him skeptically.

“Right… An alternative…”

“Hey, hear me out for a second!” Aki practically whined. He didn’t like it when people doubted him, frequent of an occurrence that it was. 

“I’m hearin’ ya, I’m hearin’ ya,” Jack sighed, holding his hands up in a placating gesture. At this point, he WAS genuinely curious about where this was headed. Aki had always been a strange one, unorthodox in a variety of ways. But he had to admit, the guy WAS dependable in the end. Regardless of his questionable methods.

“So,” Aki clasped his hands together in front of his face dramatically. He was firm in his stance that Neon Genesis Evangelion is the only good anime, but that was neither here nor there. “Have you considered a way of distracting him? Opposite of what I do for Adri, just don’t think about it at all.”

Another sigh from Jack.

“Well yeah, Aki, ‘course I have. What do ya think I’m tryin’ to do here?”

“Okay, I was just making sure we were on the same page, lighten up,” Aki grumbled before shaking his head and continuing. “What I’m getting at is… You should get out of here. Road trip or something, go somewhere nice. Just leave, hit da bricks.”

“Are ya spoutin’ internet stuff at me again?”

“FOCUS, I’m trying to help you out here.”

Jack hit Aki with another skeptical expression and Aki countered it with a shrug.

After a moment of silence and consideration, Jack inhaled through his nose.

“Got any ideas?”

“THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT! For real, though, just ask ‘im. Hey ‘sunshine’ where do you want to go this 28th and December 25th specifically? Easy peasy.” Aki leaned back against the couch again, putting his arms behind his head.

“You got straightforward methods, bud, I’ll give ya that,” Jack rubbed the back of his neck again. “Alright. I’ll pitch the idea and we’ll see how it goes.”

“If it goes south, you came up with that idea yourself.” Aki raised his shoulders in a dismissive shrug.

“Thanks.” Jack rolled his eyes, but the gratitude was genuine.

I need to know why and how you were anti-phannie from 2014-2016

alright here we go i get to talk about THIS shit now.

i was generally anti-rpf at that point, and honestly? i think it was for fair enough reasons as some people were a bit too eager about showing (general) youtubers stories they wrote about them sucking and fucking their friends. i think i was also pretty high and mighty about being a somewhat oldhead phannie tbh, like ugh do these gaming-channel-only people even know about dan being super edgy and offensive 🙄 and lowkey it was a lot of subtly misogynistic "i'm not like other girls" type shit like i was sooo much better than yall cuz i hadn't watched that video (yet.)

i was generally not into these sorts of fandoms to begin with. i wasnt on the superwhopotterlock side, i was on the homestuck/dangan ronpa/anime of the month side of tumblr, if that gives you an idea of what i was like lol. around 2014-15 i was very much in a community that is kinda similar to what you might see on twitter now, where if you had any interests in media that portrayed anything problematic, that means you are in full support of that problematic thing. if dan howell said something racist in 2010, it doesn't matter that he wasn't being racist in 2015 he's still racist and liking him makes you a racist etc. and of course, rpf is included in problematic topics. if you ship real people, even if said people say they don't mind it, you are a sick pervert and you should be in the loony bin for being so depraved. and if you write or read any fiction that has immoral acts, it means you support those acts in real life too and you are trying to normalize abuse and SA (yknow as if whitecishetpatriarchy hasnt normalized that enough) and you're a danger to children and you deserve to rot in prison (yknow as if a queer person writing stories about queer people hasnt heard that one before)

now here's the real kicker. in 2015-2016 i ran a game grumps fan blog where i did talk about shipping the grumps. "wait how were you anti-rpf if-" well have you ever heard of this thing called Lying? or perhaps even, Cognitive Dissonance? i HAD to run a separate blog for this interest, because if my friends knew i consumed slashfic about arin and danny they would stop being friends with me and think im this evil horrible monster etc. genuinely that was where my brain was at, and is a little bit the reason i decided to this day, to make my phannie accounts completely separate from my main accounts.

nowadays, none of my non-phannie friends actually give a fuck and i do occasionally talk about dnp being silly gay white boys w them! at this point i dont post about em on main just out of respect like "hey im sure you dont actually want to hear about british yaoi constantly regardless of our level of friendship so i'll keep it over here okay?"

also, yeah i grew out of thinking consuming media with deplorable acts makes me deplorable. my favorite tv show is hannibal. i know its shocking, but i dont actually support serial killer cannibals. i will say, i dont fuck with "pro/anti" language with regards to what is considered "problematic" or having that be an identity marker. i think that people are free to write fiction as they please so long as its all properly tagged for people who dont enjoy that kind of content to avoid. but i also think there can be and often are problems in the way these stories are written, and yeah if all the romance stories you read growing up involve some sort of force or danger, that CAN normalize this sort of action as inherent to romance stories/real life romance. but i think thats an issue with like, society at large, and it's not on an individual fic writer to be educating teens who read their dead dove fic despite the explicit rating and tags.

alright i know it a bit off topic to what you are doing right now. but is angst really necessary for a character. all it does it make me feel so horrible for them. just saying

This is tumblr, the rule for this is to block me/the angst arc tags and move on. If you are who I think you are, Im going to take the step myself for both our sakes.

This is my story. Youre not obligated to read it, youre not obligated to keep up. If the content upsets you, you dont force the writer to change the story they want to write. You leave for the sake of your emotional state. I wont take offense to that as we all have our tolerance for upsetting topics/stories. (God knows I have my own.)

As for angst being necessary?

Have you seen the shit these characters go through in canon?

You can make the argument for everything being cartoon violence but DO REMEMBER that Hal Labs themself has made final bosses scream in pain while youre in the process of giving them a soul-smashing beatdown. And in the case of True Arena for Mags -- you can hear him begging for help in the bg as you fight. (Epilogue also has a lot of angst. Fucks sake one of Mags' "taunt" animations has him crying.)

Im not exactly adding angst where there isnt. It is simply an extension of canon.

Again, they are simply extensions (in my interp) of whats given in canon. I take the canon stuff seriously in my writing, thats just how I do. Those events have lasting effects on the characters. You cant say someone gets possessed and theyre all hunky dory the next time you see em. Wasnt Dedede implied -- no. Straight up SAID by Hal --- to have had trauma from Fecto Forgo? So for my way of writing things, Whos to say the others didnt as well?

In terms of the relationships for those two arcs. (+Nova Incident too what the hell.) Magolor wasnt the best person. He still isnt, sometimes. Healing from what hes done while he was lashing out, for all parties involved, is not going to be smooth sailing. Sometimes things start to look up but and then go nasty in the middle. Thats just the way things are.

BtZ's basis is touching on how puppy love/crushes tend to die the longer you know a person. You find things you dont like about the fellow you admired. And that breaks them apart. Its very fortunate in rhe end of this arc though that both parties see their mistakes/flaws and learn to accept and grow with them, and thats why they got back together.

Angst makes good payoff.

And about excessive angst? Thats subjective. And I always resolve them in the end. (Hell, even Legacy has a good ending now...mostly bc I nuked it after the rewrites). Im not really good with ending things badly, so my stuff always wraps up on a happy note. (I should probably post more of the fluff stuff tbh, but its impact is heavily reduced without the angstier context.)

Tldr, in my interp/writing style, angst is indeed necessary for the character. One, a lot of it is already canon anyway. Two, this is my way of exploring/extending the character and their themes (Mags leans heavy on trust and forgiveness). Three, all of this makes for more satisfying closure/payoff.

Fayette meanwhile is interesting, I feel like he's much older than both Tinsley and Lilia, so when he took notice of them both at the VDC at least 3 years ago before the events of twst, he realized that they both look awfully familiar

See, Fayette is old enough to have witnessed the start, the carnage, and the end of the Fae war [if that's the specific war you're talking abt KHFDJKD] SO LIEKKK, If He was involved in the war ! And Tinsley was A KNIGHT for the Draconia family !!!!!! U see where I'm going with this?

He wasn't a direct ally of the Draconia family per se, but he was a former scholar turned frontliner, being a powerful mage and all, I like to think the Bureau of Magic [sigh Ik they only mentioned this group once during the story BUT IM STICKING WITH IT] was first formed DURING this war, with Fayette being one of the first members.

I feel like the Draconia Family would have a few run ins with Fayette, so Tinsley would have seen him around talking to Malleus's parents about diplomatic things. But never quite interacting with him directly.

As for thoughts, Fayette knows Tinsley's past Knighthood, he silently commends her for it, is also rather delighted to know that he isn't the only fairy around! [Albeit he doesn't have his wings //anymore//] He still thinks it's nice to see

sad thought tho watching Tinsley and the others fly and he just watches them with a wistful look in his eyes...sobs

BUT OTHERWISE I THINKD THEY GET ALONG...Tinsley puts her puffballs everywhere and Fayette comes in clutch with his magic pouch full of sparkles, I feel like Tinsley would enjoy his classes too if she ever enrolled in RSA instead, an explorer like her would LOVEEE the wild ass field trips Fayette makes his students go on.
