Dog au. Everyone has an adorable magical dog companion, including Mirabel, when Casita falls, the dogs all help their owners escape and then help Mirabel, the dogs disappear along with the magic and everyone is devastated, screw the magic those dogs were their best friends, so everyone lashes out at Alma when they realize the family pressure is what caused the cracks, but when the magic comes back so do the dogs so everyone is emotional. I love cute animals. Especially dogs

Would be very cool. I think the dog would come out of the room once it formed, and if that's the case---do you think Mirabel might have a door, but no gift? Alma still might disregaed her cayse she isn't 'useful', and her dog is a very playful one (little does she know that Mirabel arguably has the most versatile dog--calling back to the fact on how multidimensional Mirabel is when it comes to doing tasks. She definitely feels likes she should have a gift to go with the dog, but hey, at least she has a room right?

I can see why the family would be mad as well. Dogs that they've had for pretty much their entire lives, gone, because of Alma. Who cares about the gifts, the dogs (and Casita) are gone. Like they never existed. Even Alma is like 'wait my dog where is it 😕' and then when the family goes off on her she's like 'dang you right'.

Anyway. Here's some ideas for what kind of dog each family member might have. I added the husvands as well??? Because Alma and Mirabel have dogs and they don't have gifts so...LETS GOOOO

okay so. jack! jack. what a collection of guys. the overlap between jack and the beanstalk and jack the giant killer, though. that sure is something! sometimes king arthur is there, which always takes me by surprise.

this. specifically. is an idea I've been kicking around. jack and the beanstalk is not a story I've ever enjoyed, as a kid it was probably my least favorite to read. as an adult, I was INTENSELY fascinated by reading j.g. ballard's the drowned giant. I think about it frequently, and somewhere during a re read of it, I ended up revisiting jack.

combining different versions of jack into one character is not a new concept, but it IS a fun one! the version I've been assembling together plays less with the fun elements of a jack story (and adjacent folklore stories), and focuses more on the potential for tragic elements with the addition of the usual grim and jagged narrative edges that I personally enjoy.

jack with the backstory of the devil and the three golden hairs, only jack doesn't find love, he's TIRED, all he wants to do is go home, but there isn't a home to go back to. what is the point of being born lucky if this is what it gets you? jack the giant killer, only he doesn't want to kill giants, jack who saw a body of a giant when he was a small child and cannot bring himself to do as a king commands. jack, who climbs up the beanstalk and stops halfway to look down. etc.

to go back to the drowned giant real quick, both to set the tone about jack seeing the body of a giant as a youth, and also because I've been haunted and obsessed with this excerpt of it ever since I read it:

Now orthodox Israeli -just for laughs- are making fake videos copying the viral tiktoks of the IOF kidnapping Palestinian fathers and sons and stripping then naked and torturing them. Note that the videos were shared by the soldiers themselves and were horrifying and ugly. You would think that people who survived the holocaust and historical racism and antisemitism would never want to display the same evil, dehumanization and hatred to others, yet these people are celebrating. Remember when people used to bring kids to the picnic/ lynchings?

Now before somebody comes and says how is this helpful? Ask the people who shot this video and were shameless enough to post it as a trend. After seeing the horrific original video that tiktok allowed Israelis to share and celebrate.
