BALANCE is EVERYTHING... I type that in bold as a reminder more to myself more than anyone else!! And when I cannot find the peace within, or work past something in front of me, no matter how hard I try...I go to my mat. I breathe. I connect with all that is above me, and I am at peace. I like to pretend I’m in charge, however reality reminds me time and time again, I am not!! (Big surprise) At one point in time it was my fear of failure that drove me towards accomplishment, and I have achieved some pretty remarkable things. Only now...it is only releasing perfection that enables me to transcend the person I was and genuinely become closer to the spirit I have always wanted to be. No matter what your beliefs, there is always room to grow. I may not the be captain of my FATE, which I’ll leave to my higher power, but I am the master of my STATE of mind. That enables me to push past pain to recover, release hurt to grow, and trust to experience balance. THOUGHT: Where in your life, does giving up control, give you more freedom? Just like our bodies, a ship goes in the direction that it is pointed, however it is the outside factors that can have an effect on the course we may take to get from point A to point B. It is only the direction of our internal compass that is distracted by giving up hope. Stay true to your course!! Wake up early when you want to sleep in. Comfortably push yourself in a way that makes you stronger. Find the kindness to smile, even in adversity. Do you take time, to set up your asana with calm purpose, adding each layer with refined alignment? It is the same thoughtful guidance with which you start your day that we approach each posture. Set yourself up for success with meditation and gratitude for the day ahead. Quiet down with a moment of thoughtful reflection. It is in these moments where the joy of life shines through and fills our souls with blissful purpose and savored calm. How we approach our practice is how we approach life. Everything we can do to unite our body and mind in our daily flow, we can do more for ourselves to bring the philosophies of yoga into the rest of our day. Healing through yoga comes in all stages. If and when you are having a tough day, and you will have setbacks (trust me) the yoga path tells us to honor our bodies, where we are at, and self-care enough to do what we can. When I struggle to find balance with my feet on the earth, I head to the healing element of water. Weightless, free and with less pain, I engage my muscles and find my center where I can with less distraction.
